- 0:24Ron Meyers: I'm Ron Myers.
- 0:24Ron Meyers: I'm the host of this show.
- 0:24Ron Meyers: It is so good to be with you today.
- 0:25Ron Meyers: I'm Ron Myers.
- 0:26Ron Meyers: I'm the host of this show.
- 0:27Ron Meyers: It's called Get the Hell Out of your Life.
- 0:29Ron Meyers: And yes, yes, yes, we all need to keep the hell out of our life.
- 0:33Ron Meyers: God has a plan.
- 0:34Ron Meyers: There are places to go, people to see, things to do, but we can't do that with a lot of hell in our life, and that's why this show is all about faith, freedom and discovering who you were created to become.
- 0:50Ron Meyers: It's all about Jesus, my guests.
- 0:51Ron Meyers: They share their stories of what Jesus did in their life and they offer you encouragement, hope and faith.
- 0:57Ron Meyers: What better place to hear from real people sharing real struggles and real hope?
- 1:03Ron Meyers: My guest today helped me tremendously.
- 1:07Ron Meyers: Years ago, I was terminated from a job I absolutely loved.
- 1:12Ron Meyers: I was involved in Christian radio for almost 10 years and one day they closed the doors.
- 1:17Ron Meyers: I was devastated, but I ran into Jerry at the gym.
- 1:22Ron Meyers: I told him the situation and he said, ron, I have something you need to read.
- 1:26Ron Meyers: He gave me a book and, yes, it was in his gym bag, and the first words I read.
- 1:31Ron Meyers: God is in the business of placing us in the right place at the right time.
- 1:36Ron Meyers: Even though it may seem like the wrong place and the wrong time, those were true words.
- 1:42Ron Meyers: God's divine timing changed my destiny.
- 1:47Ron Meyers: I'll talk more about divine destiny in the monologue, but first Jerry's story.
- 1:52Ron Meyers: It's a good story, in fact.
- 1:54Ron Meyers: He created the title Don't Let the Shark Eat the Trout.
- 1:59Ron Meyers: I know you're going to be encouraged and empowered and inspired by Jerry Caffey.
- 2:04Ron Meyers: Take a listen to our conversation.
- 2:06Jerry Caffee: Well, we live on the Gulf Coast and I love the fish and a trout is a highly specialized fish that we love to fish for here on the coast.
- 2:16Jerry Caffee: So the video I showed on YouTube was my son catching a beautiful trout and a big shark came up and snagged that trout and started eating it.
- 2:26Jerry Caffee: So it was really a surprise event, you know.
- 2:29Jerry Caffee: So I was just sharing about my life, about what happened with my interview, with cancer and my situation and how that came about.
- 2:40Jerry Caffee: So that's that's the whole thesis of the shark eating your trout.
- 2:45Jerry Caffee: You know, today we have people out there that have things.
- 2:53Jerry Caffee: They're chasing hopes and dreams and then out of the blue comes a shark or fear, something that just consumes their hopes, and that's a little bit what it was about.
- 3:02Ron Meyers: We can be doing everything just right in life, and that's a little bit what it was about.
- 3:05Ron Meyers: We can be doing everything just right in life, everything can be going well, and then, all of a sudden, a shark comes in to take away our hopes, our dream, or we get a bad diagnosis.
- 3:14Ron Meyers: Isn't that right?
- 3:17Jerry Caffee: Oh, it's so true.
- 3:18Jerry Caffee: I know a little bit of history here.
- 3:20Jerry Caffee: In the 10th grade of high school, 40 years ago, I had a shoulder injury and it was pretty bad.
- 3:26Jerry Caffee: I was in traction.
- 3:28Jerry Caffee: I remember the surgeon telling me when you get to be your 50s, you're going to have to have shoulder surgery.
- 3:32Jerry Caffee: And he was wrong.
- 3:33Jerry Caffee: It was my 60s.
- 3:34Jerry Caffee: So I've been living with shoulder pain for 40 years and you know, just kind of beat through it like everybody else.
- 3:40Jerry Caffee: You don't want to complain, you want to be the bravado kind of guy who guts it out.
- 3:47Jerry Caffee: And uh, and November 3rd I was scheduled to get a shoulder replacement.
- 3:53Jerry Caffee: And uh, I had to get my blood labs drawn in my creatinine.
- 3:57Jerry Caffee: Creatinine levels were high.
- 3:59Jerry Caffee: I didn't think too much about it.
- 4:00Jerry Caffee: I thought, well, maybe I'm just working out too hard or, um, eating too much protein.
- 4:05Jerry Caffee: Come to find out I have a malignant tumor, or I had a malignant tumor, three pounds attached to my kidney.
- 4:12Jerry Caffee: So my nephrologist, right before he, was going to clear me for shoulder surgery, which was, you know, I really wanted to get that shoulder surgery because it hurt so bad.
- 4:21Jerry Caffee: I couldn't sleep at night.
- 4:22Jerry Caffee: The shark in my life was cancer.
- 4:25Jerry Caffee: And to sit there and hear a doctor tell you you've got cancer and it's malignant, and it's three pounds or you're going to lose your kidney, is pretty daunting.
- 4:35Jerry Caffee: And you know, I just had to struggle.
- 4:36Jerry Caffee: I had to lay in bed at night.
- 4:38Jerry Caffee: Do I have three weeks left to live?
- 4:40Jerry Caffee: Do I have three months?
- 4:41Jerry Caffee: Do I have three years?
- 4:42Jerry Caffee: Do I have 30 years?
- 4:43Jerry Caffee: I didn't know.
- 4:44Jerry Caffee: And your fear comes upon us like a wave.
- 4:46Jerry Caffee: It's like a massive shark taking something you prized possession away.
- 4:50Jerry Caffee: And I was in a battle and I like to say I was full of faith.
- 4:55Jerry Caffee: But the reality was I struggled, you know, in the middle of the night, in the wee hours of the morning.
- 5:01Jerry Caffee: That's when fear would come and I had to learn to push it back.
- 5:04Jerry Caffee: And although the story has a good ending, I think many of you viewers out there are facing struggles and difficulty and trials and they don't know what to do.
- 5:17Jerry Caffee: Well, the end of the story is I had a PET-CT scan done last week and they found no cancer, none at all.
- 5:27Jerry Caffee: It was totally encased in the this, you know kidney comes wrapped in like a shrink wrap.
- 5:33Jerry Caffee: And uh, the doctor, the nephrologist, told me, you know it was two millimeters away from my chest, the size of my whole body, and he said have you not been found out with?
- 5:42Jerry Caffee: You know, it was pretty daunting, and now I see that, the thing that I hope for, the fear and the word cancer.
- 6:01Jerry Caffee: It's just like a consuming shark and it was scaring the hell out of me to be honest with you, but I'd like to tell you on your show's something we want to face up straight up.
- 6:16Jerry Caffee: You know that God is able to deliver us.
- 6:19Jerry Caffee: He is able to be a provider.
- 6:20Jerry Caffee: Many of our friends and coworkers go through things and now I have the ability to be a little more compassionate, have empathy, have understanding and just to walk with people.
- 6:32Jerry Caffee: And, you know, have a tool in my pocket like a book for you.
- 6:36Jerry Caffee: We always need to be looking for those God type moments, don't we?
- 6:40Ron Meyers: Yeah, we sure do, jerry, and I'm so glad to hear that the cancer isn't there and now you're going to have some shoulder surgery.
- 6:52Ron Meyers: But you know, jerry, I think this year I've lost more friends and people this year than I think I have in a long time, whether it be cancer, it be COVID, it be surprise heart attacks, and a lot of these people are, you know, 40s and 50s and you know you think you're going to live to be 70 and 80, 90 years old, but the truth is that I think the Bible even tells us that we're not even promised a tomorrow.
- 7:22Ron Meyers: So, and when you are kind of aware that life is so fragile, you begin to intentionally live and look for opportunities of purpose.
- 7:32Jerry Caffee: Well, so true, Ron.
- 7:33Jerry Caffee: You know what you're talking about is living a life with purpose.
- 7:36Jerry Caffee: And having a diagnosis like cancer actually has a benefit.
- 7:39Jerry Caffee: There's something very startling and very striking when you realize you may only have three weeks left to live, but three months the reality is nobody gets out alive.
- 7:51Jerry Caffee: Yeah, and I was at Starbucks today and I was going through the line and I guess I was on my phone and just to show you how God works in my life, sometimes I was on my phone, I wasn't paying attention and the person behind me was a little irate and they were blowing the horn and I realized it was my fault.
- 8:13Ron Meyers: It was probably me blowing the horn.
- 8:14Ron Meyers: No, no, it probably was.
- 8:17Jerry Caffee: It could be anybody, it could be me on a bad day, but you know that happens to us and I wanted to get aggravated and get mad.
- 8:23Jerry Caffee: And I heard that quiet voice, because I was in front of them Go ahead and pay for their Starbucks, wow.
- 8:30Jerry Caffee: And so I thought you know, know, I'm going to do that.
- 8:38Jerry Caffee: So that was for me, that was a choice I made, uh, because you know life is short and, uh, we just have these everyday moments with God.
- 8:43Jerry Caffee: We have to, we have to choose.
- 8:45Jerry Caffee: You know, I've done a lot in my life.
- 8:46Jerry Caffee: I make a lot of money, I've lost a lot of money, I've had a successful business, um, I've done mission trips all over the world, but I really think it comes down to living with purpose in the quiet moments, in the detailed moments, in the slow moments, in the fearful moments Sometimes a lot.
- 9:05Jerry Caffee: When you walk into fear, you know and you trust God in the dark wee hours of the morning.
- 9:10Jerry Caffee: That's maybe your greatest, the greatest moment of faith we have.
- 9:15Ron Meyers: Yeah, yeah, so well put, I agree.
- 9:18Ron Meyers: And somebody out there right now, jerry, they're so glad they tuned in because that shark of fear has entered their life and it could be with a spouse with a job, with money, with finances, and you're the master fisherman.
- 9:35Ron Meyers: Now what do they do?
- 9:36Ron Meyers: How do they get rid of that shark in their life that wants to take away their dreams and hope?
- 9:41Jerry Caffee: Yeah, scripture tells us, do not be afraid of sudden fear, nor be on the side of the wicked.
- 9:45Jerry Caffee: And I have to catch myself, because when you get a sudden fear, your child is lost, your job is gone, your cancer is on you, it comes on and it robs us, it steals our joy.
- 9:59Jerry Caffee: We're real people, we really deal with these things and we have to gather our wits and say, lord, I bring it to you.
- 10:06Jerry Caffee: And you have to push back fear and choose faith.
- 10:12Jerry Caffee: Sometimes what I have to do is just bathe myself in his promises.
- 10:16Jerry Caffee: God is faithful, he's true, he's loving on his son, he cares for me, he loves me no matter what.
- 10:22Jerry Caffee: He's my great resource, he has all the resources I need, he's my provider, nothing's impossible with him.
- 10:31Jerry Caffee: And just on and on, and on and on, till my spirit catches up with my spirit.
- 10:36Jerry Caffee: That's dealing with fear.
- 10:38Ron Meyers: And then we do have to put on the faith of christ yeah, even though sometimes it may be a little dark in front of us, to hold on, have faith.
- 10:50Ron Meyers: There is light at the end of the tunnel and, yes, with god, it is going to be okay you know, I have one thing to that it's going to be okay.
- 11:00Ron Meyers: It's what I've learned is it's going to be okay, and if it's not okay, it's still okay and it's important in this time, in this time in this world, that people really have that relationship with God.
- 11:17Ron Meyers: Jerry, I don't know how people that have no faith and no belief in God, I don't know how they get through each day.
- 11:30Jerry Caffee: Well, we weren't made to be lone wolves.
- 11:34Jerry Caffee: God designed the body of Christ.
- 11:36Jerry Caffee: When I first posted about cancer, I had so many people reach out to me, people I hadn't heard from 40 and 50 years, and they ministered to me and I began to recognize the face of God through people.
- 11:47Jerry Caffee: And you know, people often say because I love to fish and I love to be on the water and I love to wave fish, catch trout and redfish, A lot of my fishing buddies who are non-believers say, well, I don't need church, I don't need that, I don't have to be in church to be alone with God.
- 12:03Jerry Caffee: I said but you need the body.
- 12:05Jerry Caffee: We're not made to walk this world alone.
- 12:08Jerry Caffee: What are you going to do when you get cancer?
- 12:10Jerry Caffee: What are you going to do?
- 12:11Jerry Caffee: when your baby's in a car wreck.
- 12:12Jerry Caffee: What are you going to do when you hear horrible news?
- 12:15Jerry Caffee: You need real hands, real people, real lives, real soothing words, and that's how God operates on us.
- 12:21Jerry Caffee: He brings the body of Christ and I'm so thankful for it.
- 12:24Jerry Caffee: Sometimes I've gone in the church with the hope of Lord.
- 12:27Jerry Caffee: I just need to be encouraged Just someone to encourage me and often that happens More often than not it happens.
- 12:32Jerry Caffee: But what I realize, what God often speaks to me, is look, I've got some people here who you need to encourage, and the encourager becomes encouraged when he encourages.
- 12:42Jerry Caffee: And that's what you're doing, ron, on your radio show.
- 12:45Jerry Caffee: That's why people are coming, that's why they're listening.
- 12:47Jerry Caffee: They want hope.
- 12:48Jerry Caffee: Hope is a powerful thing.
- 12:50Jerry Caffee: A lot of people it's easy to have, not easy, but faith is something that some.
- 12:54Jerry Caffee: It's possible to have faith and not have hope.
- 12:57Jerry Caffee: Uh, just hope is a powerful, powerful, uh, emotion and feeling and the reality in our lives.
- 13:06Ron Meyers: You know, Jerry, somebody asked me Ron, are you always so optimistic and you have hope?
- 13:13Ron Meyers: I mean, is it real or is it just a show for people?
- 13:18Ron Meyers: And I tell them, no, it's real, because I've been on the other end.
- 13:22Ron Meyers: I know what the alternative is when you don't have hope and when you don't have any optimism in life.
- 13:28Ron Meyers: But, Jerry, there was something that happened to me about probably about six years ago.
- 13:33Ron Meyers: It was the word grace and where I've always heard about grace.
- 13:38Ron Meyers: But something hit me one day that grace is nothing I can do for myself, but what God can do for me.
- 13:49Ron Meyers: I made a decision, whether it be a show that I'm doing or a project, that I turn it all over to God.
- 14:00Jerry Caffee: God tells us not to labor, but there's one area he tells us to labor and he tells us to work hard at it, and it's to labor to enter into his rest.
- 14:09Jerry Caffee: And I also thought that was odd, because why do we have to labor to enter into his rest?
- 14:13Jerry Caffee: It's because we're not made that way.
- 14:15Jerry Caffee: We're made to fix it ourselves.
- 14:17Jerry Caffee: We want to take care of the problem, we want to fix the problem.
- 14:21Jerry Caffee: And now, with the shoulder surgery and being laid up with cancer, I've got a multimillion-dollar business I'm running and I can't run it.
- 14:29Jerry Caffee: I can't micromanage, I can't be a.
- 14:31Jerry Caffee: On top of that, I got some cervical myopathy on my neck, which makes my hand from the surgery, makes my hand hard to write, so a lot of the things that I'm used to doing in my own flesh have been taken away from me.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 14:45Jerry Caffee: And you know it's a but it's a wonderful place of grace because what I can't do he can do.
- 14:51Jerry Caffee: And even today, as we're talking, I agree with you, ron.
- 14:54Jerry Caffee: There's some people listening today.
- 14:56Jerry Caffee: They don't know what to do.
- 14:58Jerry Caffee: They haven't experienced God's grace and his hope, and I believe today that's the purpose of this podcast is that God would issue forth hope.
- 15:08Jerry Caffee: You know, ron, as you're talking, let me just speak this to you you know you're a wellspring of hope and encouragement, whether you hear it back or not.
- 15:17Jerry Caffee: You'll never know, and that's how God operates.
- 15:20Jerry Caffee: You know you'll never know the encouragement you give someone on the radio.
- 15:24Jerry Caffee: You may never know it until you're in heaven.
- 15:26Jerry Caffee: Matter of fact, I can forget good things I've done or good things you've done, but he says God is not unjust as to begin your work for the saints and that's so encouraging.
- 15:37Jerry Caffee: You know you never know who's driving today, who's in there, a mother who's got screaming little kids around and just needs some hope, needs some rest.
- 15:47Jerry Caffee: You know God's not a respecter of persons.
- 15:48Jerry Caffee: He doesn't do something good for me and not do it for you.
- 15:51Jerry Caffee: He doesn't take a prejudice over one person over the next.
- 15:55Jerry Caffee: He is a God of the impossible.
- 15:57Jerry Caffee: So if God healed me from cancer, he can heal you.
- 16:01Jerry Caffee: If God can take me out of financial dilemma in a supernatural way, he can do it for you, and that's happened in my life.
- 16:08Jerry Caffee: So you know, in scriptures Psalms says that he is the God of many deliverances, and I often thought it has an S on it.
- 16:17Jerry Caffee: It's not like deliverance.
- 16:18Jerry Caffee: He's the God of deliverances.
- 16:19Jerry Caffee: Many of the afflictions are the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all.
- 16:24Jerry Caffee: We have a great God, don't we?
- 16:26Jerry Caffee: Ron?
- 16:27Ron Meyers: We have a great God.
- 16:28Ron Meyers: We have a great God and I want to thank you for taking time and visiting with me today and our listeners, hey.
- 16:37Jerry Caffee: Ron.
- 16:37Jerry Caffee: Yes sir, Can I do something?
- 16:39Jerry Caffee: Can I pray for your viewers or your listeners today?
- 16:41Ron Meyers: Yes, absolutely.
- 16:43Jerry Caffee: Heavenly Father.
- 16:44Jerry Caffee: I know that this message goes out to a lot of people, and right now as we pray.
- 16:51Jerry Caffee: I know there's a mother who doesn't know what to do, there's a husband who doesn't know what to do, there's a child who's lost, there's finances that are beyond recompense, there's taxes due, there's cancer.
- 17:06Jerry Caffee: There's a bad report, and we want to believe your report.
- 17:11Jerry Caffee: I pray, father, that you would minister your great power, that you would bring hope, like a blanket of hope, around the hurting today, that you would wrap your loving arms so tenderly and tightly that there couldn't be any other explanation but the hand of God.
- 17:27Jerry Caffee: Thank you that you've delivered me.
- 17:28Jerry Caffee: You don't treat me special.
- 17:30Jerry Caffee: You treat me special because I'm your son, but you're willing to give your gifts to anyone who's willing to seek you out.
- 17:37Jerry Caffee: Father, we're so thankful.
- 17:39Jerry Caffee: We're just like beggars who found bread and we want to share.
- 17:42Jerry Caffee: I pray you'll minister to these people, father, and you'll love them and show them your love in a tangible way, whether it's fishing or promotion or whatever the vernacular they need to hear it in that you would speak to them today, father.
- 17:56Jerry Caffee: Bless you, jesus, amen.
- 18:01Ron Meyers: When I return my monologue God's divine timing.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You're listening to Get the Hell Out of your Life with your host, ron Myers.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Real stories, real struggles and real hope.
- 18:17Speaker 5: What's your story?
- 18:18Speaker 5: We're looking for stories of hope and overcoming life's struggles with God's grace.
- 18:24Speaker 5: Your story validates God's love, mercy, restoration and forgiveness.
- 18:29Speaker 5: We want to help you share your story with the world.
- 18:33Speaker 5: Visit our website, thepromoterorg, and click on the Share your Story link and submit your story.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Your testimony of God's amazing grace will change a person's destiny for eternity.
- 18:47The Journey: Have you ever experienced a quote-unquote coincidence that seemed just too perfect to be random?
- 18:53The Journey: My name is Mark and this is the Journey.
- 18:56The Journey: I believe that God puts people and opportunities in our life on purpose, according to His plan for each of us.
- 19:03The Journey: It's happened to me numerous times.
- 19:05The Journey: I would be praying for an outcome that I desperately needed and then, interestingly, the right person or opportunity just appeared.
- 19:13The Journey: The Bible suggests that these moments are not accidents but divine appointments.
- 19:18The Journey: Throughout the Bible, we see one example after another where God orchestrated the events in the lives of His people.
- 19:25The Journey: Think about young David's journey in the Bible.
- 19:27The Journey: As a young shepherd, he was sent by his father, jesse, to bring food to his brothers at the battlefield 1 Samuel, chapter 17.
- 19:40The Journey: It seemed like a simple errand, but in reality, god was positioning David for his greatest moment defeating the Philistine giant Goliath.
- 19:44The Journey: What appeared to be chance was in fact, part of God's perfect plan to elevate David to his destiny.
- 19:52The Journey: Then, later, god orchestrated the events of David's life to place him in the king's court, preparing him for future leadership.
- 19:59The Journey: When we walk with God, nothing in our lives is random.
- 20:03The Journey: He is always at work behind the scenes, weaving together circumstances for his purpose.
- 20:09The Journey: What may seem like a coincidence to us is often God's way of guiding, teaching or blessing us.
- 20:16The Journey: Remember that Psalm 37 reminds us the Lord directs the steps of the godly.
- 20:22The Journey: He delights in every detail of their lives.
- 20:26Speaker 1: You're tired of how you're living.
- 20:32Speaker 1: We'll change it.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You don't like where you're headed?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Rearrange it.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You're sick of being let down and you want to turn your life around.
- 20:44Speaker 1: If you want to start living right, Get the hell out of your life, Get the hell out of your life.
- 20:54Ron Meyers: Get the hell out of your life.
- 20:55Ron Meyers: Welcome back listeners.
- 20:57Ron Meyers: You know there's a saying that God places us in the right place at the right time.
- 21:03Ron Meyers: But how often do we find ourselves questioning that?
- 21:06Ron Meyers: How often do we feel lost, trapped in what seems like the wrong place at the wrong time?
- 21:13Ron Meyers: I'm sure we've all been there, sitting in traffic when we're late for a meeting, or stuck in a job that feels like a dead end, watching life pass us by.
- 21:24Ron Meyers: At those moments it's easy to doubt, to think that we're on some path that leads nowhere.
- 21:32Ron Meyers: But what if?
- 21:33Ron Meyers: Just what if?
- 21:35Ron Meyers: This is exactly where we need to be?
- 21:38Ron Meyers: I've come to believe that every experience, every setback, every delay is part of a greater plan, one that we may not understand at the moment.
- 21:51Ron Meyers: Think about it Every person we meet, every challenge we face, shapes us in ways we can't always see.
- 21:59Ron Meyers: It's in those uncomfortable situations that we learn resilience, empathy and strength.
- 22:06Ron Meyers: Perhaps God has placed us here to teach us something we didn't know we needed to learn, because it's all part of the grand scheme of things, and that is discovering your destiny.
- 22:22Ron Meyers: Imagine the times when you felt like giving up, yet somehow you found the strength to carry on.
- 22:30Ron Meyers: Those moments of perseverance often lead to the most profound growth.
- 22:35Ron Meyers: It's in the struggle that we discover who we truly are.
- 22:40Ron Meyers: So the next time you find yourself questioning your circumstances, remember this.
- 22:47Ron Meyers: Sometimes the right place may feel wrong and the timing might seem off, but it's in those very moments that we are being prepared for something greater Trust that each twist and turn is a stepping stone leading you toward a purpose, a destiny that is uniquely yours.
- 23:13Ron Meyers: A purpose, a destiny that is uniquely yours.
- 23:18Ron Meyers: So today, I conclude with this Embrace the uncertainty of life, embrace the journey.
- 23:20Ron Meyers: Rest in the finished works of Jesus, because in the grand tapestry of life, every thread counts, even the ones that seem out of place.
