- 0:26Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:31culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:34media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:38through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:40I'm your host, Lauren Meissner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:44media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini scroll,
- 0:48everyone. All right, I have no updates for
- 0:51you guys today. So before we get into it, Please
- 0:54remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 0:56Please Spotify star rate US. We're trying to get to 1000
- 0:58Spotify star ratings by the end of the year.
- 1:01OK, the first actual story that I have for you guys is that
- 1:04Brianna chicken fry has brought back plan.
- 1:07Brianna cut her podcast and in the 1st episode she is addressed
- 1:11if she thinks she'll ever be friends with Grace O'Malley
- 1:14again. So following the friendship
- 1:15breakup between Brianna Chicken Fry and Grace O'Malley, their
- 1:18joint podcast plan Bree Uncut is back with Brianna Solo at the
- 1:23helm. To be clear, the podcast was
- 1:26Brianna's podcast to begin with and then she added Grace as a
- 1:29permanent Co host, kind of like Cancelled with Tana Mojo and
- 1:33then how she added Brooke as a permanent Co host later on.
- 1:36But it is those additions to the podcast like Grace and Brooke
- 1:40that really turned Cancelled and Plan Brie into the phenomenons
- 1:44that they were anyway. So they had this massive falling
- 1:47out. I covered it tons last year.
- 1:49I can't believe it's been a year actually.
- 1:50I should say I was trying to figure out like why did they
- 1:53break up in the 1st place? Like, why did they stop being
- 1:55friends? I couldn't even remember it.
- 1:56And then when I was like, reading articles about it, I was
- 1:59like, Oh my God, that was this time last year.
- 2:01Time flies. Like, I cannot believe it's been
- 2:03a year. But yeah.
- 2:04So this time last year, they had a massive falling out.
- 2:07And their podcast ended. And Brianna has said since then
- 2:11that the main reason their friendship ended was because of
- 2:14her relationship with Zach Bryan, which obviously has also
- 2:17ended. So following their friendship
- 2:18breakup and the end of their podcast, Grace was then picked
- 2:22up for a solo podcast by the Unwell Network.
- 2:25And Bri has been influencing and doing BFFS podcast.
- 2:29As far as I can tell. And I don't know if you guys
- 2:31saw, but there was a TikTok of a girl and maybe it was on Reddit,
- 2:34I can't remember. There was something going around
- 2:36where somebody was like, I'm at the BFFS like live tour and it's
- 2:40so empty. There's like 50 people here.
- 2:43There's rows and rows and rows that are empty.
- 2:45Like it's so cringe. And I actually do believe that
- 2:47like Brianna and Grace pulled in massive crowds for their tour.
- 2:51And I believe Brianna would pull in massive crowds if she did her
- 2:54own tour for Sanbury. But like, is anybody an actual
- 2:57stand of BFFSI don't know? I don't think so.
- 3:00Like they're irrelevant podcasts for sure, and they're quite
- 3:03buzzy, but I don't know if people are like stands of them.
- 3:06So anyways, today Brianna brought back.
- 3:09Oh my God, this is a tongue twister plan.
- 3:11Bree with the first episode of the podcast since October 10th
- 3:16of last year. And in her first episode back,
- 3:18she talks about if she can see herself becoming friends with
- 3:21Grace again. Was Do you think you and Grace
- 3:22will ever be friends again? Am I honest answer to that?
- 3:28Like right now my quick answer would be no, genuinely don't
- 3:32think we'll ever be friends again.
- 3:35I just think that that bond was what kept us best friends and
- 3:40there's no way to ever get back to that level of friendship with
- 3:48what we went through online behind closed doors in real
- 3:52life. Like there's just no way to
- 3:55reach that level of friendship again.
- 3:57And we aren't the type of people that would just be like high and
- 4:03by friends, you know, like there's so much history and it's
- 4:05sad to lose someone that you're friends with for 15 years like
- 4:10this. Hard to navigate, to be honest,
- 4:15of like that person that you thought you could tell
- 4:19everything and trust and that would always have your back, you
- 4:21know, and then like to have a falling out and realize, OK,
- 4:25maybe this person, this relationship isn't what I
- 4:30thought it was. This is really sad.
- 4:32I'm not surprised that she feels like they couldn't be friends
- 4:34again. I'm sure some of you guys have
- 4:35had really major friendship break UPS like this.
- 4:38I have had some of these, not necessarily like falling out,
- 4:42but just kind of drifting away from someone who was like the
- 4:45closest person to you at one point.
- 4:47And it's so sad, but it's so true.
- 4:49Like having that, that amount of history with somebody, it feels
- 4:52honestly impossible to have a relationship with them again
- 4:54unless you got back to that place.
- 4:56And it would take so much to get back to that place.
- 4:59OK, the next story that I have for you guys is I'm going to
- 5:01break down the like food review talk drama going on between this
- 5:06Arizona bakery and this food reviewer, Glamorama.
- 5:10So it all starts on October 7th when food creator Aurora Griffo,
- 5:14who is known as Glamorama on TikTok, posted a review of JL
- 5:18Patisserie in Scottsdale, Arizona.
- 5:20In her video, Aurora said she didn't quote mind spending $10
- 5:24on a pastry if they were really good.
- 5:26But you cannot use fake ass ingredients.
- 5:29She pointed to the pistachio fillings color.
- 5:32She commented on the bakeries coffee and pricing, and she
- 5:35called the quiche crust disappointing quote.
- 5:39All of that being said, I think if you stay away from the
- 5:41expensive ingredients, you can definitely enjoy a delicious
- 5:44rich pastry here. She said.
- 5:47OK, so her video initially didn't really get a lot of
- 5:49engagement, but then the bakery responded.
- 5:54In a TikTok video, the bakery CEO Jenna claims that Aurora had
- 5:58previously asked to collaborate with the bakery but was quote
- 6:03respectfully declined due to budget limits.
- 6:06She further alleged that Aurora quote try to blackmail us by
- 6:09saying if we offered the food for free, she would write a good
- 6:12review about us. And she said the influencer,
- 6:15despite them saying no, showed up the next day anyway.
- 6:18So we recently had an influencer reach out to us and asked to do
- 6:22a collaboration and we respectfully declined because it
- 6:26was not in our budget right now. Then she essentially tried to
- 6:28blackmail us by saying if we offered the food for free she
- 6:31would then write a good review about us.
- 6:33I told her I would think about it but she still came in the
- 6:35next and although we hadn't agreed to collab with her, we
- 6:40recognized her when she came in and we still were very
- 6:43accommodating and offered her extra drinks.
- 6:46So we totally respect a bad review, but what we don't like
- 6:49is lying and bullying. The first thing she said was
- 6:52that our pistachio was so faked. Fun facts, we have right here
- 6:58our pistachio paste that is 100% pistachios from Italy.
- 7:02All of our flowers that we use in our product, the Farin EE
- 7:06Port Gruy Rouge all comes on the pallet from Europe.
- 7:10And this isn't just about me, this specific influencer has
- 7:13gone to many different local restaurant and bullied them.
- 7:17The problem is if the next generation is influenced by her
- 7:20to believe it's OK to bully and disrespect the food industry.
- 7:24We like working with influencers, but acting like the
- 7:27working class is beneath you and promoting this kind of message
- 7:30on social media and bribing us for free stuff is not really
- 7:34something we support. So this video, you guys, has
- 7:37gone proper viral. Like we talk about viral.
- 7:40This has over 57.1 million views and it is not slowing down.
- 7:47So as you can imagine, even though Aurora's initial review,
- 7:50it was like a little bit shady, right?
- 7:52It wasn't like super positive. It didn't get a lot of views.
- 7:56This just exploded. So everyone's going to Aurora's
- 7:59page then. So she felt like she needed to
- 8:01respond, I assume. God damn, someone finally stood
- 8:04up to me. You know I gotta say fucking
- 8:06kudos for real. I respect that.
- 8:08I do. What I don't respect are the
- 8:10lies. So here are the receipts.
- 8:13You want the truth, you can't handle the truth.
- 8:15I never said that I would leave a good review for a free meal.
- 8:19I have never done that and I will never do that.
- 8:21So I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that I was
- 8:23bullying you. You have way more followers than
- 8:25I do. You are way cooler than I am.
- 8:27I will admit that like I would love to have the online presence
- 8:30that you do so if anything, you're kind of punching down.
- 8:33My video got what like 7400, I think maybe 12,013 thousand on
- 8:39Instagram. It didn't do great.
- 8:41I also said nice things in that video.
- 8:42I actually do think if you stay away from the nuts, if you're
- 8:45like me that don't like that fake pistachio flavor, I still
- 8:48have one of your other pastries here.
- 8:49Well, this one's a pistachio, so it hasn't been eaten yet, but
- 8:52the pumpkin one that I loved and raged about, I'm not
- 8:55exaggerating. I ate it about two hours ago and
- 8:58I will say it's been frozen for days since Saturday.
- 9:00Pulled it out after about 30 minutes.
- 9:02It was still phenomenal and I'll stand by that.
- 9:04We also didn't get free drinks. We did get a free shot of
- 9:08espresso, which was so nice. Like the French man that works
- 9:10there. He was the sweetest man ever.
- 9:12I said I liked my coffee strong. He sent out a free shot of
- 9:15espresso that was so, so nice. Regardless, Jenna, I respect
- 9:19your balls. I do respect your talent.
- 9:21It may not be always my taste, but I do respect your talent.
- 9:24However, yesterday Aurora returned to TikTok with an
- 9:27apology and she deleted all of her previous posts so this is
- 9:31what she said. Hey everyone, first and foremost
- 9:33I want to address the fake ass ingredients comment.
- 9:36When I tasted the pistachio pastry, I noticed a strong
- 9:39pistachio flavor that reminded me of extract or flavoring, so I
- 9:42assumed that's what was used to enhance the taste.
- 9:45Maybe was added, maybe it wasn't.
- 9:47But I want to be clear, they do use real ingredients as well and
- 9:50I should have been more thoughtful in my wording.
- 9:52I also want to clarify something really important.
- 9:55My review is not revenge for being turned down for a
- 9:58collaboration. I had already planned to visit
- 10:00and review the bakery regardless, paid or not, but I
- 10:03understand how things unfolded. It may have looked like I did it
- 10:06out of spite. That's not who I am and that was
- 10:08never my intention. For those who followed me for a
- 10:11while, you know I always give honest reviews, good or bad.
- 10:13But I also understand that honesty without how compassion
- 10:16can come across the wrong way. When the collaboration didn't
- 10:18work out, I completely respected and went in as a regular paying
- 10:21customer. My goal was still to give an
- 10:23honest review, but I see how that message followed by a
- 10:27negative video made it seem like I only wanted free food or felt
- 10:31entitled, and that's not true. That was never my mindset and I
- 10:34truly regret it ever came across that way.
- 10:36To the bakery. I'm sincerely sorry for any harm
- 10:38my words may have caused. I respect the time, effort and
- 10:41heart that goes into running a small business and I genuinely
- 10:44wish you nothing but success moving forward.
- 10:46OK so then People magazine got involved.
- 10:50They wanted to write about this, so they reached out to the
- 10:52bakery for comment and this is what the CEO said to them.
- 10:56This is insane. Like what is going on?
- 10:58I mean, it went so viral. I guess that's why this is what
- 11:01the CEO said. I did not want to target hate
- 11:03toward a single individual. We did not include her name in
- 11:06our video, which is true. They didn't name her.
- 11:08My message was to stand up against this type of behavior
- 11:11and highlight the dangers of what influencing can mean on
- 11:13social media. I want to defend the product I'm
- 11:16proud of and my amazing team that works hard to craft it.
- 11:19We've seen so many instances where somebody makes a review,
- 11:22they don't even need to have followers anymore, right?
- 11:24Like with TikTok, things can just like go viral.
- 11:27People make a video and it goes so viral and then a small
- 11:30business or whatever is under fire and people are just sending
- 11:34them hate without knowing any of the story by just like blindly
- 11:37believing creators or people. And I know it's because we all
- 11:41have like corporation trauma, like we collectively hate
- 11:45corporations because of what they've done to us.
- 11:47And so we're obviously like most of us are inclined to side with
- 11:52an individual over a brand, a corporation, a company.
- 11:55This small business is obviously not like a corporation.
- 11:58And I don't know if they were getting hate.
- 12:00Like I said, Aurora's initial video did not have a lot of
- 12:03views. It did not have a lot of
- 12:04engagement in comparison. But now I feel like the reverse
- 12:07is happening where, you know, Aurora has in theory taking
- 12:12accountability. I don't know, I guess it depends
- 12:14how you see it. And I feel like at this point,
- 12:16because it went so viral, it doesn't have 1 million views, 2
- 12:20million views. It has almost 60 million views.
- 12:22And I feel like I almost 60 million views of people being
- 12:25against you. Maybe you have learned your
- 12:27lesson. And I actually think the bakery
- 12:30will probably private their video now that she's made this
- 12:33proper apology. OK, the last story that I have
- 12:36for you guys, this is such a happy one.
- 12:38But Coltie Youtubers Dan and Phil have revealed that they've
- 12:42been in a relationship secretly for the last 16 years.
- 12:45Well secretly depends on how you see it.
- 12:48So Dan and Phil are OG youtubers.
- 12:51They started posting on YouTube together in 2009.
- 12:54Their handles were Dan is not on fire and Amazing Phil.
- 12:57Those were their original channel names and they were
- 13:00adjacent to the Brit crew for much of their early career.
- 13:04Over the years they developed a very culty following the two of
- 13:08them and their friendship and people shipped them romantically
- 13:12all the way back then. Because of this, they also
- 13:14became very famous on Tumblr. They launched a joint channel in
- 13:182014 and they came out separately in 2019, but still
- 13:23had never confirmed that anything was going on between
- 13:26them until now. Today they uploaded a video
- 13:29admitting that yes, they have been in a relationship with each
- 13:32other for a whole 16 years. Stan Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr are
- 13:36losing their minds. Everyone is so excited.
- 13:40There's also tons of people that are like, oh, I thought that we
- 13:42knew this already. Like I thought that this had
- 13:44been confirmed. But I think the Internet just
- 13:47shipped them so hard for so long.
- 13:50And when they both came out separately in 2019, people were
- 13:54like, OK, obviously they must be together, but they had never
- 13:57confirmed it and now they did. And to keep their relationship
- 14:00essentially under wraps like that for 16 years is quite the
- 14:04feat. So good for them.
- 14:05Anyways guys that's it for mini scroll today.
- 14:07Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 14:10Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 14:12Annabelle will talk to you guys tomorrow and then I will talk to
- 14:15you on Thursday. Bye.
