- 0:01Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome, welcome, welcome. It's
- 0:04Speaker 1: time now for one on one with the pros, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: we've got our folks from Valor Construction in with to
- 0:11Speaker 1: introduce yourselves.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Guys, I'm Dan Selina's. This is Jeremy Barnes. All right, guys,
- 0:16Speaker 2: welcome aboard.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Now when we're talking about Valor, we just heard the
- 0:20Speaker 1: commercial and by golly, your folks are.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Veteran owned and operated. Tell us a little bit about
- 0:26Speaker 2: the veteran's side.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yep, So I served in the Army back in two
- 0:30Speaker 3: thousand and three, two thousand and eight, two deployments to
- 0:34Speaker 3: Iraq for about two and a half years total and combat.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Wow, and your your family has got along line of
- 0:44Speaker 1: folks who observe.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Too, that is correct.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yea, So my dad served, My grandfather's on my mom's
- 0:49Speaker 3: side and dad side both served. So uncle, I mean,
- 0:53Speaker 3: we just come from a deeply rooted military family.
- 0:55Speaker 2: How does that translate to work ethic?
- 0:57Speaker 3: You know, it's I think, you know, I'm a little biased,
- 1:01Speaker 3: but I think veterans tend to work real hard and
- 1:03Speaker 3: are real loyal.
- 1:04Speaker 2: And yeah, well yeah, that's that pretty much makes the
- 1:10Speaker 2: case right there. Now, you deal primarily right here in
- 1:14Speaker 2: the bartles.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Are because well, you've got a lot of properties that
- 1:17Speaker 1: you've been working on.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Yeah, my name's.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Jeremy Barnes, like Dan said, and you know, I've been
- 1:21Speaker 5: around the area for I'm actually from the Copan area.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Owned the Copane truck stop and restaurant as well.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Oh the place with the mile Pie Mile High pot.
- 1:31Speaker 5: You bet your TEGs famous pies up there. So yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 5: we've got some deep roots with our family here, mainly
- 1:37Speaker 5: up in the Copan area. But you know, we've been
- 1:39Speaker 5: buying properties, We've owned multiple companies and uh, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 5: just me and Dan came together on some projects and
- 1:48Speaker 5: hit it off. And like you said, his military background.
- 1:52Speaker 5: I had a lot of people in my family were
- 1:54Speaker 5: in the military. I personally wasn't, but you know, I
- 1:57Speaker 5: came to I saw how hard Dan worked and how
- 1:59Speaker 5: hard he wanted to build a business, and how small
- 2:03Speaker 5: town mentality wise, he really gravitated to the atmosphere in
- 2:08Speaker 5: Barnesville and we just hit it off and started working
- 2:11Speaker 5: on a lot of jobs together.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So say, hey, let's pull this together.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Let's use you know, my networking, my business influences here
- 2:19Speaker 5: in town, and let's pull it together and and bring
- 2:22Speaker 5: your expertise to the table.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well this was great, this was this was meant to be,
- 2:26Speaker 1: as they say, and with valor, we call it valor.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Construction and roofing. But today we need to talk about roofs.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You gotta take care of our rooms. You gotta have
- 2:36Speaker 2: you gotta have protection, Yes.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Sir, one hundred percent right, you gotta have it. It's
- 2:41Speaker 3: the you know, aside from your foundation, it's the second
- 2:43Speaker 3: most important thing on your house.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And when it comes to.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Taking care of it, you need an inspection every now
- 2:51Speaker 1: and then, don't you correct.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, you know, after owning so many properties and
- 2:57Speaker 5: doing so many flips in the area a lot of time,
- 3:00Speaker 5: what happens is we buy a house or we go
- 3:03Speaker 5: inspect a house. Some of the first things we look
- 3:05Speaker 5: at is the roof and has it been installed properly?
- 3:10Speaker 5: Is there any how old is the roof? So inspection
- 3:12Speaker 5: is a big part of that process. But what we
- 3:15Speaker 5: have come across so many times is, you know, there's
- 3:19Speaker 5: more than just the shingles on a roof. You know,
- 3:22Speaker 5: you have all your decking on the roof, you have
- 3:25Speaker 5: your drip edge, all of your all the components that
- 3:28Speaker 5: pull a good roof together that's going to last. And also,
- 3:32Speaker 5: let's face it, roofing is expensive nowadays, and when we
- 3:36Speaker 5: purchase a property, we want to make sure that we've
- 3:38Speaker 5: got some value and a roof that's ensurable, a roof
- 3:42Speaker 5: that's going to last, and the roof that we feel
- 3:44Speaker 5: confident when we sell a property or put it on
- 3:48Speaker 5: for a customer that it's done correctly.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Now, with this hot weather, how hard is this on
- 3:56Speaker 1: a roof around here?
- 3:58Speaker 3: So yeah, the weather for sure is is a huge
- 4:00Speaker 3: factor in Bartlesville on these roofs.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And then the longevity of them.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I'll say, you know, you have to have the proper
- 4:07Speaker 3: ventilation on these roofs. If without without the proper ventilation,
- 4:11Speaker 3: these things will start experiencing thermal cracking and we'll have
- 4:14Speaker 3: your Your longevity of the of the roof is just
- 4:16Speaker 3: not going.
- 4:17Speaker 2: To be there.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Everyone seems to think it's going to be the storm
- 4:20Speaker 1: that and it might be the storm that takes it off,
- 4:23Speaker 1: but it's going to be the heat that.
- 4:24Speaker 5: We consider right, well, we all know insurance plays a
- 4:26Speaker 5: big part in the game. And and and uh we
- 4:30Speaker 5: Dan works really hard with all the local and all
- 4:33Speaker 5: the national brands of insurance to you know, bring together
- 4:39Speaker 5: some some value in that, but also some honesty and integrity.
- 4:43Speaker 5: We we want to take care of the customers and
- 4:46Speaker 5: we will go to battle for any kind of uh,
- 4:49Speaker 5: you know, insurance claims or anything like that, but we
- 4:51Speaker 5: want to do it with honesty and integrity, and also
- 4:54Speaker 5: make sure the customer down the road has some value
- 4:58Speaker 5: in their roof, not just you know, slap some singles
- 5:01Speaker 5: on and walk away, transfer some money back and forth,
- 5:04Speaker 5: but actually something that is an investment into your property.
- 5:08Speaker 4: And you know, a roof is a huge investment.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It is one thing, gentlemen, that I noticed when I
- 5:15Speaker 1: was looking at your social media stood out me.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It just hit me like lightning.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You put your license number out there.
- 5:23Speaker 2: How many times have folks.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Talked or interviewed with someone who may be doing some
- 5:30Speaker 1: construction or roofing for that matter, and to ask about
- 5:34Speaker 1: a license and they said, well, I left it in
- 5:36Speaker 1: the truck and next thing you know, the truck's taken
- 5:38Speaker 1: off down the road. You put that out there, correct, yep,
- 5:42Speaker 1: And you're very proud of that license because that says
- 5:46Speaker 1: we are who we are.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 5:49Speaker 3: We want people to know, you know, that we're licensed,
- 5:52Speaker 3: were ensured. You know, we have more insurance than the
- 5:56Speaker 3: state minimum required come out. You know, this is for
- 6:00Speaker 3: you know, put in our customers that are peace of mind.
- 6:03Speaker 3: You know, let them know, hey if we make if
- 6:05Speaker 3: something happens, you know, we're going to make sure it
- 6:08Speaker 3: gets taken care of. We're licensed. You know, this is
- 6:11Speaker 3: a lot of these, you know, small storm chasing companies
- 6:15Speaker 3: that you know you won't see license numbers on their
- 6:17Speaker 3: vehicles or on their signs or anything like that. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 3: we just don't operate that way. We play by the book.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And of course, you know, being from around the area
- 6:26Speaker 1: in the Copaine area to where the Barbersville area as
- 6:28Speaker 1: long as you've been, transparency is.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So important to people.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Well, you don't have anything if you don't have a
- 6:35Speaker 5: good name, especially in the Barbasville area. I mean, let's
- 6:38Speaker 5: face it, we're a small town and word gets around fast.
- 6:42Speaker 5: We have social media. The last thing I want to
- 6:46Speaker 5: do is tarnish my personal name or our company's name,
- 6:51Speaker 5: and in a manner that would be fraudulent or any
- 6:55Speaker 5: anything indicative of a you know, some kind of a
- 6:59Speaker 5: lot or a misconception or somebody that didn't didn't get
- 7:03Speaker 5: what they what they thought they were going to get.
- 7:06Speaker 5: As far as from a ripping and construction standpoint, in
- 7:10Speaker 5: my opinion, we're building customers for life. I want you
- 7:14Speaker 5: to when you think of your roof, I want you
- 7:16Speaker 5: to think of valor when you think of any kind
- 7:19Speaker 5: of construction, whether that be guttering or a bathroom remodel
- 7:23Speaker 5: or laying some flooring in your at your house. I
- 7:26Speaker 5: want to be the first person that comes to mind
- 7:28Speaker 5: in the area. And I want to do that based
- 7:30Speaker 5: off of our integrity and our honesty and our hard
- 7:33Speaker 5: work and our craftsmanship.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Your hard work shows that's for that's for darn short.
- 7:39Speaker 1: You were just telling me that your guys, even in
- 7:41Speaker 1: this heat, they don't like to be sidelined.
- 7:44Speaker 2: They're like going, it's okay, boss, We're ready to roll.
- 7:47Speaker 4: That's correct.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it gets brutally hot up on these roofs,
- 7:51Speaker 3: one hundred and forty plus degrees when you're out there
- 7:53Speaker 3: working in the sun. You know, when it's hot like this,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you know, one of the things that we do for
- 7:57Speaker 3: you know, make sure our crews always have ice and
- 7:59Speaker 3: the ice chest with the water and taking a lot
- 8:02Speaker 3: more breaks. So what you know, in this heat.
- 8:05Speaker 2: What a one day job normally would.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Be, it's gonna be most likely a two day job
- 8:09Speaker 3: nowadays for safety reasons, you know, we don't want to
- 8:13Speaker 3: rush rush through things. But also the pliability of these
- 8:16Speaker 3: the shingles when they get so hot, if they're not
- 8:20Speaker 3: careful handling them, you can damage them on the install
- 8:23Speaker 3: So you know, one of those things is you just
- 8:26Speaker 3: take care of the shingle, you know, if it's starting
- 8:28Speaker 3: to get too soft and pliable, then let's start again
- 8:33Speaker 3: in the morning.
- 8:34Speaker 2: There you go.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to shoot your workday around. But this
- 8:38Speaker 1: is great and how and it just seems like you
- 8:41Speaker 1: guys were made to team up.
- 8:42Speaker 2: It really does.
- 8:44Speaker 4: We are me and Dan.
- 8:46Speaker 5: I mean, it's all about honesty, having a partnership together.
- 8:53Speaker 5: I've never lied to Dan, never as Dan lied to me.
- 8:57Speaker 5: We don't argue about jobs. We come together collectively. We
- 9:01Speaker 5: work together, use his strengths, use my strengths, and you know,
- 9:06Speaker 5: you know, and if we if we which we never
- 9:09Speaker 5: really have, we never really disagree on a project, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 5: because the foundation of what we're trying to do is,
- 9:16Speaker 5: you know, provide our customer with what they need, not
- 9:21Speaker 5: cut any corners per bride craftsmanship and build a brand
- 9:24Speaker 5: in the area.
- 9:25Speaker 2: You know, how do we find Valor Construction in grouping?
- 9:29Speaker 1: I mean I found you on the internet, but folks
- 9:32Speaker 1: might not know how.
- 9:35Speaker 5: So we do have an office here in town Chelsea.
- 9:37Speaker 5: She's our office assistant in there. So we do have
- 9:40Speaker 5: an office present presence here in town. It's located at
- 9:44Speaker 5: four twenty three Southeast Washington Boulevard.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And then we have we also have our you know,
- 9:50Speaker 4: let's face it, social.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Media dominates right now as far as marketing and uh
- 9:56Speaker 5: so we have Valor Ripping and Construction dot com. We
- 9:58Speaker 5: have a website, but we take we we take pride
- 10:03Speaker 5: in our work. So we do have some videos on
- 10:05Speaker 5: our Facebook page. I would well good, I thank you,
- 10:09Speaker 5: thank you, and we we we know people want to
- 10:11Speaker 5: see our work. They want to see our safety practices
- 10:14Speaker 5: on the job sites. They want to they want to be,
- 10:17Speaker 5: you know, and we want to be. We want to
- 10:19Speaker 5: show people what we can do and the best way
- 10:21Speaker 5: to do that currently, you know, is through Facebook and
- 10:24Speaker 5: some social media outlets.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's great.
- 10:27Speaker 1: So once again, folks who don't don't let it be
- 10:30Speaker 1: a surprise that right under their name you're probably going
- 10:34Speaker 1: to be seeing their license, which means the world to
- 10:37Speaker 1: a lot of people.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Just go, oh, thank you.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Now let's go for the rest of what's on the
- 10:43Speaker 1: social media or what's on the website and see what
- 10:46Speaker 1: they can do. And you're going to find nice folks
- 10:49Speaker 1: like these two gentlemen here to help you. Of course
- 10:52Speaker 1: Chelsea at the office, and of course the crews out
- 10:55Speaker 1: there making it all happen. Boy, I tell you what,
- 10:57Speaker 1: that's a special breed. That is special kind of folks
- 11:01Speaker 1: that are out there working hard like that.
- 11:03Speaker 2: You know. So I got to be proud of them.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Absolutely. We couldn't be more happier with our teams.
- 11:08Speaker 5: And uh, you know them guys work so hard and
- 11:12Speaker 5: we do everything to provide them, you know, timely pay.
- 11:15Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of companies out there that
- 11:18Speaker 5: you know that we hear stories, you know, Okay, we
- 11:20Speaker 5: haven't been paid yet, and this and that. So we've
- 11:22Speaker 5: got multiple crews all over town. We've got Cruise in Tulsa,
- 11:26Speaker 5: broken Arrow a Waso. I mean, we have guys out
- 11:29Speaker 5: working all over for us. You know, our core area
- 11:33Speaker 5: we want it to be Barsville though.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Okay, but it's nice to know that do you do
- 11:36Speaker 1: a little windshield time to go out and take care
- 11:38Speaker 1: of people, won't you?
- 11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, that's correct.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I mean, you know, at the end of the day,
- 11:42Speaker 3: we insurance agents call or that they'll send somebody our way,
- 11:46Speaker 3: or you know, a referral from somebody or friend, and
- 11:49Speaker 3: you know, whether it's in Sand Springs or Muskogee, you know, well,
- 11:53Speaker 3: well we don't mind putting, you know, burning a little
- 11:54Speaker 3: bit of fuel.
- 11:55Speaker 4: You know, I know it's getting expensive nowadays.
- 11:57Speaker 2: But still it's part of the deal. It's part of
- 11:59Speaker 2: the call. That is that's correct.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Ye, all right, guys, I want to thank you for
- 12:04Speaker 1: coming in and telling us about Valor construction and roofing.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Folks.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Go to their website, check them out on social media,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and we'll probably be having you guys back in again
- 12:13Speaker 1: talking a little bit more about roofs and construction, because
- 12:17Speaker 1: they do both, and they do we already heard just
- 12:20Speaker 1: a little bit. It's more than just slap a roof
- 12:22Speaker 1: on the top of your building. There are all kinds
- 12:24Speaker 1: of intricate little things the details that go into it
- 12:27Speaker 1: as well. You mentioned a couple of things and I
- 12:29Speaker 1: wasn't even aware of a little bit agoing I made
- 12:32Speaker 1: a mental note of that, I'm going.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Well, this is pretty good. Learn something new, all right.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Thanks for being with us today on one on one
- 12:39Speaker 1: with the pro right here on K one, the one
- 12:42Speaker 1: you trust.
