- 0:22Speaker 1: go Steelers!
- 0:30Speaker 2: Everybody welcome into the Irish Shooters podcast presented by Aer
- 0:33Speaker 2: Lingus as we have reached the grand week, the week
- 0:37Speaker 2: de la France.
- 0:38Speaker 3: De la France.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Pour les Steelers. How poor is that French, Mark?
- 0:42Speaker 3: I love it. It's better than my French.
- 0:44Speaker 2: How was your GCSE? Or for people listening as well,
- 0:46Speaker 2: I don't know why GCSE are leaving sort of French.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Was it sketchy?
- 0:50Speaker 3: I scraped a passing. I got a C in my
- 0:52Speaker 3: GCSE French.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I got a B.
- 0:54Speaker 3: There you go.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Which is good. I'm not sure. We both didn't do
- 0:56Speaker 2: the leaving, sir. I'm not sure what the point situation
- 0:58Speaker 2: is in there, but we've done quite good is what
- 1:00Speaker 2: we're trying to say. If you pass, you pass. Obviously
- 1:03Speaker 2: presented by Aer Lingus and a lot of people getting
- 1:04Speaker 2: flights with Aer Lingus from Dublin or from Belfast this week,
- 1:09Speaker 2: connecting over to Paris as well. We'll talk about that
- 1:12Speaker 2: later on in this podcast. Good to see you, man.
- 1:15Speaker 2: You were very, very, very missed at the watch party
- 1:19Speaker 2: on Sunday night in Kennedy's.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Great crack.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Sorry I couldn't be there. As I said, I'm very
- 1:23Speaker 3: much one I like to be tucked away in my
- 1:25Speaker 3: wee closet watching the sport. But here, they definitely had
- 1:30Speaker 3: me biting my nails for a wee bit in the
- 1:32Speaker 3: first three quarters.
- 1:33Speaker 2: 26-19 overtime win against the Bucks. And we will go
- 1:37Speaker 2: into it in a second. Can I just very quickly
- 1:39Speaker 2: acknowledge the fact that Canady's, I'm not sure if you've
- 1:43Speaker 2: been there yet, but we'll have to get down for
- 1:44Speaker 2: a pint or two sometime. Canady's was absolutely phenomenal. For
- 1:49Speaker 2: anybody like Mark, hasn't been there yet the downstairs is
- 1:52Speaker 2: decked out in Steelers gear stuff from the Dublin game
- 1:55Speaker 2: and stuff throughout the years very very cool I'm not
- 1:57Speaker 2: going to lie as an NFL fan first and foremost
- 2:01Speaker 2: but a big big shout out to Matt Smith he
- 2:04Speaker 2: was engaging throughout and I think one of the best
- 2:08Speaker 2: things to say probably I can say it now because
- 2:09Speaker 2: he's not here but we had him on stage pre-game
- 2:14Speaker 2: and after that there he got up and he met
- 2:16Speaker 2: everybody and actually gave everyone the time of day and
- 2:18Speaker 2: for a guy who's just being the two Super Bowls,
- 2:21Speaker 2: he is one time Super Bowl champion, didn't have us
- 2:23Speaker 2: ring them. Come on now.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Safe, safer.
- 2:27Speaker 2: He was really, really sound.
- 2:30Speaker 3: That's really interesting because we sent about the Dublin game
- 2:32Speaker 3: as well and the players that came over then, they
- 2:34Speaker 3: all had time and they're all big, big deals and
- 2:37Speaker 3: everything else. But that's fantastic.
- 2:38Speaker 2: A bit like yourself, Mark. You're a very, very big deal.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah, big deal. A legend in my own brain.
- 2:44Speaker 2: We're both sipping on coffees. This podcast is going out
- 2:48Speaker 2: on Tuesday and There'll be a wee bit more extra
- 2:51Speaker 2: content on Saturday for myself in Paris. More to come
- 2:55Speaker 2: on that, just when we have the subject of Mark
- 2:58Speaker 2: behind you as a terminal tile, which I'll get you
- 3:00Speaker 2: to pick up at the end, okay? But it's from Matt,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and it's for yourself, so enjoy it.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Thank you, Matt.
- 3:08Speaker 2: You were well missed, and a massive thanks to Kennedy's
- 3:11Speaker 2: and to all the partners that made Sunday night in
- 3:14Speaker 2: Dublin just such a great experience.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Now....
- 3:18Speaker 2: We won the game. We won the game, right? That's
- 3:23Speaker 2: the good point. Hard first half. Difficult to say the least.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, we said last week, I suppose something that
- 3:31Speaker 3: I'm sure you've heard in different sporting circles, the sign
- 3:33Speaker 3: of a good team is you can play badly and
- 3:36Speaker 3: you still win.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And I think for three quarters now, whether we played
- 3:40Speaker 3: badly or they played well, they had the long week.
- 3:42Speaker 3: We spoke about this last week. And when you have
- 3:45Speaker 3: a long week, you have time to repair. We had
- 3:46Speaker 3: the advantage the week before. They had it this week.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I think they really came in with an answer. They
- 3:50Speaker 3: took away our run. They took away the big tight ends.
- 3:53Speaker 3: And we had three of our starting five wide receivers injured.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So it's like, they've only got two wide receivers. Let's
- 3:59Speaker 3: get out. Let's get out. They came after us. That
- 4:01Speaker 3: had to be the mindset going in there. They had
- 4:03Speaker 3: a good game plan. That hip pass that Washington didn't
- 4:07Speaker 3: quite give for the interception is just frustrating. I don't
- 4:10Speaker 3: think that's bad play. Good defensive line play.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It just....
- 4:15Speaker 3: Those turning points, 50-50 ball, Washington maybe grabs that on
- 4:18Speaker 3: a different day with the wind blowing a different direction.
- 4:21Speaker 3: But that definitely kick-started off the start of a bad
- 4:25Speaker 3: three quarters, or not a productive three quarters for the offense.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And you sort of said a word bad there. This
- 4:30Speaker 2: is the only negative sentence we're going to have. We're
- 4:32Speaker 2: going to talk into the positive stuff in 30 seconds here.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But I sort of say the half. After three quarters,
- 4:38Speaker 2: it was 16-3 to the Bucs. You mentioned the time
- 4:41Speaker 2: off that they've had after that game against the Cowboys.
- 4:44Speaker 2: probably buoyed from the fact that they actually defeated them
- 4:47Speaker 2: on the road. Baker Mayfield didn't start for them. The
- 4:49Speaker 2: key for me, and we sort of talked about it
- 4:52Speaker 2: at halftime in Dublin, Mark, was they were getting the
- 4:56Speaker 2: Rodgers too easy, I thought. And that's just something that
- 4:59Speaker 2: needs to work out. Yeah, like far, far too easy.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And we've seen that drop off a bit. We'll talk
- 5:03Speaker 2: about the second half in a second. But that's something that,
- 5:05Speaker 2: as we look to Paris this weekend that are on
- 5:07Speaker 2: the podcast, just a bit more protection, a bit more space.
- 5:11Speaker 2: 42 years of age, playing like he's 24, fair, an
- 5:14Speaker 2: absolute credit to him but he needs time as well
- 5:17Speaker 2: so just want to say we've got more protection there
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think in terms of that.
- 5:20Speaker 3: There and we had we spoke about this in the
- 5:23Speaker 3: first couple of weeks as well and he's been sacked
- 5:25Speaker 3: quite a bit in some of those games our offensive
- 5:28Speaker 3: line seem to be built to want to run the
- 5:31Speaker 3: ball and assert their dominance we don't seem to be
- 5:35Speaker 3: as connected in that pass protection and the pass pickup
- 5:38Speaker 3: it should obviously help when we can have those two
- 5:40Speaker 3: big tight ends in and they can maybe help some
- 5:42Speaker 3: things but we're against a very good defense I know
- 5:45Speaker 3: they were coming in one at four but they're very
- 5:46Speaker 3: good one at four I don't think they've lost by
- 5:48Speaker 3: less than that touchdown in any of their games no
- 5:51Speaker 3: and so credit where credit's due for them they came
- 5:54Speaker 3: in with a very good plan and they got after
- 5:55Speaker 3: you know rookie linemen where we're weakest and really took
- 5:59Speaker 3: away that run which put pressure on us having to
- 6:02Speaker 3: hold the ball in the pocket a bit more.
- 6:04Speaker 2: An explosion in the fourth quarter Darnell Washington five yard
- 6:08Speaker 2: touchdown catch from Rogers Boswell Money, money, Boz. Well, they
- 6:12Speaker 2: called him yesterday. Money, money, Boz. He's had not a
- 6:15Speaker 2: difficult start to the season, but he's done well there yesterday.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Game obviously goes to overtime. And Mark, there was a real,
- 6:22Speaker 2: it wasn't that there was a lull. That party picked
- 6:25Speaker 2: up big time in Dublin. The tiles were waving. I
- 6:27Speaker 2: was shouting, here we go, here we go. There's a
- 6:29Speaker 2: number of videos of it. But, oh man, when the
- 6:32Speaker 2: Bucks levelled it, it was like letting air out of
- 6:34Speaker 2: a balloon. But the team came back and that big,
- 6:37Speaker 2: big play in overtime. The Steelers won the toss. They
- 6:40Speaker 2: drove 12 plays. The key for me here, and if
- 6:44Speaker 2: any Commanders fans are listening, and I'm sure you'll agree
- 6:46Speaker 2: with this, the time management was very good. Six minutes
- 6:49Speaker 2: 45 used in that drive in overtime for the game winner.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Jeremy Bernard from Rodgers, and then Jalen Ramsey had the
- 6:57Speaker 2: big sack of Jalen Daniels on fourth in the end,
- 7:00Speaker 2: and they got the job.
- 7:01Speaker 3: And we're saying when I said about bad play in
- 7:03Speaker 3: the first half where we're not quite getting things going offensively,
- 7:06Speaker 3: Ramsey was, again, everywhere. We mentioned him last week, being
- 7:10Speaker 3: like a general for those young guys. He was a
- 7:13Speaker 3: bit limited, but that first half, he was around everywhere.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I don't know if you have the stats, but he
- 7:18Speaker 3: must have been in double-figure tackles, obviously a couple of sacks,
- 7:22Speaker 3: tackles for loss in the backfield. Both safeties, two sacks.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Two sacks, and then that big blitz one at the end.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yeah, which obviously closes out the game. He was phenomenal,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and not taking anything away from Brisker. Both safeties had
- 7:35Speaker 3: a really good game, I thought. And what did we say?
- 7:38Speaker 3: We kind of take away the run. That's two weeks
- 7:40Speaker 3: in a row. We had JT, you know, we had Irvin,
- 7:43Speaker 3: Bucky going there and we're like, if he gets going,
- 7:45Speaker 3: we're going to be in trouble. The defense took away
- 7:47Speaker 3: the run.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Well, it's only week six, but we can start saying
- 7:50Speaker 2: defense wins championships. Jamel Dean had to give him a
- 7:54Speaker 2: shot at that 40-yard return to the three-yard. He probably
- 7:57Speaker 2: could have had that for himself if it had got
- 7:58Speaker 2: that far. Those moments, and I think a lot of people,
- 8:02Speaker 2: whether you were sitting in Kennedy's in Dublin or whether
- 8:04Speaker 2: you were watching the game at home, like Mark, yourself,
- 8:07Speaker 2: It was hard to see that comeback, but they proved
- 8:10Speaker 2: people wrong and got over it with the guys that
- 8:12Speaker 2: were injured. You know, some of the people to mention,
- 8:14Speaker 2: you know, DK Metcalf had that crucial conversion on third
- 8:17Speaker 2: and 13 in overtime. We talked about Bernard. Jalen Warren
- 8:21Speaker 2: only had 50 yards and 14 carries. But for me,
- 8:24Speaker 2: his contribution with Rico Dowdle in a difficult set and work.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Just that mix worked. And I feel like, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: the team have to be buoyed from that in the
- 8:33Speaker 2: sense of, you know, two weeks ago, And we're not
- 8:36Speaker 2: talking for our viewpoint. Like Thursday night in Cleveland was
- 8:39Speaker 2: disappointing in terms of how it ended up. They go
- 8:42Speaker 2: in and they win on the road. That's the big thing.
- 8:46Speaker 2: That is a huge, huge factor. And so many Steelers
- 8:48Speaker 2: fans in the crowd. It was great to see.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And look, it's again, we wanted to see an away win,
- 8:53Speaker 3: like away from home win. You'd mentioned about bringing the
- 8:57Speaker 3: home field atmosphere to the away game. field and that
- 9:01Speaker 3: that seems to to pay it off but they showed
- 9:03Speaker 3: great resilience which is what we needed from them we
- 9:06Speaker 3: really needed to get in a way when we need
- 9:07Speaker 3: to start to get into a little bit of a
- 9:08Speaker 3: winning streak and when you've got you're carrying so many
- 9:12Speaker 3: injuries and you're still digging in and finding a way
- 9:14Speaker 3: to get things done that i think it's it's fantastic
- 9:17Speaker 3: and obviously bernard uh had that wee blip kept going
- 9:21Speaker 3: back to what what a what a fantastic game he
- 9:23Speaker 3: up have as a rookie you make a mistake like
- 9:25Speaker 3: that at the start you could be completely out of
- 9:27Speaker 3: that game and Credit where credit's due. Didn't he stand
- 9:31Speaker 3: up when we needed him to?
- 9:33Speaker 2: As we say, keep her lit. And he did. He
- 9:35Speaker 2: kept lit. Two points I want to talk about before
- 9:37Speaker 2: we hear from Coach McCarthy. Obviously, we're delighted to get
- 9:40Speaker 2: the win here. But Aaron Rodgers had a very interesting game.
- 9:44Speaker 2: He tied Peyton Manning for third overall all-time in career
- 9:49Speaker 2: passing touchdowns, 539. I'm old enough to remember whenever Peyton
- 9:55Speaker 2: got to 539. Well, he got the record and everyone,
- 9:59Speaker 2: I think it was a mile high. like stopped and
- 10:00Speaker 2: clapped him and now I'm talking about Rodgers getting him
- 10:02Speaker 2: deferred 27th career 4th quarter comeback for Aaron Rodgers and
- 10:09Speaker 2: we have to give a huge shout out not just
- 10:11Speaker 2: for Rodgers resilience but Coach McCarthy who was injured he
- 10:15Speaker 2: stepped on just in case anyone hasn't seen this stepped
- 10:18Speaker 2: on He had an ankle injury or an ankle issue
- 10:21Speaker 2: at the end of the first half. He spent the
- 10:22Speaker 2: entire halftime in the blue medical tent. You have to
- 10:24Speaker 2: give it to his assistants because he was joking at
- 10:27Speaker 2: the end that they obviously helped him out of the break.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And then he was joking that he toughed it out
- 10:31Speaker 2: and joked about the heat in the tent. Toughness.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I would say whoever gave that halftime speech needs to
- 10:38Speaker 3: be given every halftime speech. No credit on credits, Drew.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Whoever stepped up into that changing room needs to be
- 10:43Speaker 3: doing the same thing again.
- 10:44Speaker 2: And do you know what? Again, it's something because of
- 10:48Speaker 2: the watch party. We were getting ready for the halftime.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I didn't see that at the time. I watched the
- 10:52Speaker 2: back of him hobbling. And I thought, God, this couldn't
- 10:55Speaker 2: have been any worse at this point. But the team
- 10:56Speaker 2: turned it around. Big speech. And it's that toughness. And
- 11:00Speaker 2: there's a real, I think, you get the dub and
- 11:03Speaker 2: numerically it counts. But there's a real psychological lift now
- 11:06Speaker 2: as we look towards Paris this weekend. which we will do.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Another historic game. They did very well in the last
- 11:11Speaker 3: historic game they played in last year. That was a
- 11:13Speaker 3: good day. I remember that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Anything you want to say about this Bucks game before
- 11:15Speaker 2: we go and start looking at that game?
- 11:17Speaker 3: Well, obviously, I mentioned we wanted to get a bit
- 11:19Speaker 3: more production from big number 51. And, you know, finally,
- 11:24Speaker 3: big two sack game.
- 11:25Speaker 2: We're back.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Harmon not there. The big D tackle, Burton.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, Burton had a good game.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Fantastic game. And it's like, these are the guys that
- 11:33Speaker 3: I was like, we haven't seen anything from these guys,
- 11:36Speaker 3: these rookies, these guys that have been paid recently. We
- 11:38Speaker 3: need to start seeing some production. Some of the big
- 11:41Speaker 3: names that, some people that aren't the big established names
- 11:44Speaker 3: that have been there for 10 years. And he turned up,
- 11:46Speaker 3: put him on the edge, let him go. Seems to
- 11:48Speaker 3: be a recipe that'll work really well.
- 11:50Speaker 2: This is a Steelers podcast, but I do have to
- 11:53Speaker 2: give credit to, especially in the fourth quarter and then overtime,
- 11:56Speaker 2: I have to give credit to a guy that I
- 11:57Speaker 2: thought would flounder a wee bit. And he did at
- 11:59Speaker 2: the end. He got sacked in fourth and eighth. Jalen Daniels,
- 12:03Speaker 2: his legs at the end. And he tested the Steelers team.
- 12:06Speaker 2: The Steelers got them eventually. But I really enjoyed the
- 12:09Speaker 2: game in the fourth quarter. I thought it was excellent
- 12:11Speaker 2: football on both sides, you know, just for both teams.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I do think the Bucks defensively tired a wee bit
- 12:17Speaker 2: and we took advantage of that. But that's what you
- 12:19Speaker 2: have to do. You've got to take advantage of it.
- 12:20Speaker 3: They tired on the flip side. The Steelers' defence didn't.
- 12:24Speaker 3: They kept us in it and kept us in it.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You know, how many three and outs were there as
- 12:27Speaker 3: we went through that little bad purple patch in the
- 12:29Speaker 3: start where they were on the field a lot and
- 12:32Speaker 3: obviously gave up some plays to bend on break, make
- 12:35Speaker 3: them feel goals, not touchdowns. Only let in the one
- 12:38Speaker 3: touchdown that Jeepers didn't keep us in the game. And
- 12:40Speaker 3: if you can keep it close enough, you know, I
- 12:43Speaker 3: think Roger said after the game about getting DK involved
- 12:45Speaker 3: a bit earlier. But it's great to see that they
- 12:47Speaker 3: have a chemistry that they can just take over a
- 12:49Speaker 3: game if they need to.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That's all we need. That is all we need. And
- 12:53Speaker 2: we get the double as well. As we continue on
- 12:56Speaker 2: the Irish Studios podcast presented by Aer Lingus, let's hear
- 12:58Speaker 2: from Coach McCarthy after the Bucks game looking ahead to
- 13:02Speaker 2: what's a very interesting week for the Steelers as they
- 13:05Speaker 2: travel to Europe. for the second year in a row.
- 13:07Speaker 2: This time the fronts. We'll talk about that on the
- 13:09Speaker 2: other side. Let's hear from Coach McCarthy on the Irish
- 13:11Speaker 2: Shooters podcast presented by Aer Lingus.
- 13:17Speaker 4: I'm proud of our rookie class. These guys are, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 4: they're getting some opportunities early. So, I think what Jeremy
- 13:23Speaker 4: did yesterday was outstanding. He was the game ball winner
- 13:26Speaker 4: on offense. So, that speaks volumes of how everybody feels about,
- 13:30Speaker 4: you know, where he is and his climb and his
- 13:33Speaker 4: contribution to the offense. So, Yeah, definitely. It's something that,
- 13:39Speaker 4: you know, it's been like this for two decades. Your
- 13:42Speaker 4: young players have to play, and I think when they
- 13:44Speaker 4: do have opportunities early, it's very beneficial. My personal experience
- 13:48Speaker 4: has been your younger players are probably going to be,
- 13:52Speaker 4: you know, playing a bigger role in November, December. That's all,
- 13:55Speaker 4: you know, some of these seasons I know have gone
- 13:57Speaker 4: for me personally, and you look at our IR situations,
- 14:01Speaker 4: you know, we've been up late with injuries, so It's
- 14:05Speaker 4: important for our young players to step up. I mean,
- 14:07Speaker 4: Jalen Ramsey, just a multidimensional player. You could play him
- 14:12Speaker 4: anywhere in the back. I really appreciate not only his ability,
- 14:17Speaker 4: but his football intelligence, the jumping in and out of positions. Obviously,
- 14:22Speaker 4: the sack at the end of the game was exactly
- 14:25Speaker 4: how you draw it up, you know, as far as
- 14:26Speaker 4: the technique of both TJ and Alex, you know, setting
- 14:30Speaker 4: that edge and for him to come, you know, just...
- 14:34Speaker 4: The timing, the whole process of it. And that's what
- 14:38Speaker 4: these veteran guys give you. And Jalen exemplifies that.
- 14:45Speaker 2: That was Coach McCarthy on the Irish Shooters podcast presented
- 14:47Speaker 2: by Aer Lingus. Mark, we've got a big game this week,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and I cannot believe you're not going to Paris. What's
- 14:51Speaker 2: going on? The last time I checked, the flights were
- 14:54Speaker 2: a lot of money, so I'm not going to excuse you.
- 14:57Speaker 3: In the run up to Christmas with the catering and
- 14:59Speaker 3: events company that we are weekends are very very busy
- 15:02Speaker 3: so I'll definitely be watching the game and able to
- 15:04Speaker 3: pencil out that time taking off a whole day to
- 15:06Speaker 3: have a nice day trip or weekend trip to Paris
- 15:09Speaker 3: especially without the wife I don't think I get swing.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I will text you during I didn't text you on
- 15:13Speaker 2: Sunday last week because I was busy at the watch
- 15:15Speaker 2: party but like seriously I'll drop you a text There's
- 15:20Speaker 2: so many people from here going over, which is going
- 15:22Speaker 2: to be really, really good. It's amazing.
- 15:23Speaker 3: A lot of the people, a lot of the guys
- 15:24Speaker 3: in the team and a lot of people I know
- 15:26Speaker 3: have all said they're flying over and I'm sure they're
- 15:27Speaker 3: going to see a swathe of American Steelers fans as well.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It's going to be unbelievable. A couple of things on
- 15:35Speaker 2: the game. Clocks change at the weekend. Clocks go back.
- 15:39Speaker 2: So what that means is the game kicks off at 1.30pm.
- 15:43Speaker 2: uk and ireland time okay so 1 30 p.m not
- 15:46Speaker 2: not not am still that would be crazy till 2
- 15:49Speaker 2: 30 french 2 30 french time but more importantly and
- 15:52Speaker 2: this is a great thing for the steeders thing virgin
- 15:54Speaker 2: media 2 the zone sky sports uh if you're northern
- 15:58Speaker 2: ireland channel 5 as well this game is covered on
- 16:02Speaker 2: tv this weekend and obviously as well on the on
- 16:04Speaker 2: the off the ball sports radio app you can listen
- 16:06Speaker 2: to the audio if you're out and about in the
- 16:09Speaker 2: car for a little uh Little rendezvous. I'm heading over
- 16:13Speaker 2: on Thursday night and the Steelers... They're in Thursday night.
- 16:17Speaker 2: So the Steelers fly in, I think they fly in
- 16:21Speaker 2: on Thursday evening. I'm not sure at the time of
- 16:24Speaker 2: recording if they land Thursday night or if they do
- 16:26Speaker 2: what the Texans done in London last week and they
- 16:28Speaker 2: fly in.
- 16:29Speaker 3: It's a very interesting logistics conversation, off-field stuff and how
- 16:34Speaker 3: that affects... You could like what the Rams did in
- 16:36Speaker 3: the museum where people have turned up 10 hours and
- 16:39Speaker 3: tried to play a game and how this is going
- 16:40Speaker 3: to affect There's never been a game played here before.
- 16:43Speaker 3: There's no one to phone and ask, no one to
- 16:45Speaker 3: go what the facilities are going to be like. You're
- 16:47Speaker 3: setting the standard, you're breaking the ground. People are going
- 16:50Speaker 3: to be phoning them next year to find out what works,
- 16:53Speaker 3: what doesn't work. So it's quite close, Thursday night coming in.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Excusez-moi, CV Play, tell us all the crack. There's a
- 17:00Speaker 2: couple of points I want to bring up there. They
- 17:02Speaker 2: are training on Friday in Paris. I believe the players,
- 17:05Speaker 2: they'll have a walkthrough on Saturday, but hopefully they'll have
- 17:07Speaker 2: a chance to see the surroundings of the city. And
- 17:10Speaker 2: then that game obviously is a little bit earlier on Sunday.
- 17:12Speaker 2: But the great thing, Mark, is people at home get
- 17:14Speaker 2: to watch it. We're going to break down some of
- 17:16Speaker 2: the keys there. You made some interesting points there for me.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I just want to very quickly talk about this. We
- 17:22Speaker 2: have to acknowledge the fact we're recording at the start
- 17:25Speaker 2: of the week. The Saints are already in Paris. But
- 17:28Speaker 2: I would argue that the Saints are already in Paris
- 17:30Speaker 2: because of, I mean, again, this is a Cedars podcast.
- 17:35Speaker 2: This is the importance of this game for us in
- 17:37Speaker 2: the sense of The Saints, a bit like the Steelers
- 17:40Speaker 2: coming to Dublin last year, the Saints want to win
- 17:42Speaker 2: this game. This is the thing that they've looked at
- 17:44Speaker 2: all year.
- 17:45Speaker 3: This is a circled game for them.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Huge for them. The family of the owners, the Benson family,
- 17:52Speaker 2: the city of New Orleans, the relationship that France and
- 17:56Speaker 2: French culture has with that city is huge.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I have an agreement with the Paris Musketeers that they
- 18:01Speaker 3: signed last year, so there's a whole lot of strong
- 18:04Speaker 3: connections between the Saints and Paris, which we're hopefully going
- 18:07Speaker 3: to break apart.
- 18:08Speaker 2: We will. We will break apart. And we'll break it down.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Some bully football. Billy the French.
- 18:12Speaker 2: We can finally give a shout out to Charlie Smith
- 18:14Speaker 2: in this podcast. I don't think he's going to be playing,
- 18:16Speaker 2: but it's just, you know, it's cool to see the
- 18:18Speaker 2: Steelers come over and actually play Charlie's team as well
- 18:21Speaker 2: this week. So just for people who are aware, Steelers
- 18:23Speaker 2: will train in France on Friday morning. Coach McCarthy and
- 18:27Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers and selected other players will speak at the
- 18:30Speaker 2: Stade de France on Friday morning. I can't wait. I've
- 18:33Speaker 2: never been to the Stade de France.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Are there any questions lined up? Some hard-hitting, difficult questions?
- 18:37Speaker 2: Oui, monsieur. Oui, oui, oui. This is where I was
- 18:40Speaker 2: going to play a game this week about practicing French sayings,
- 18:43Speaker 2: but we can't do it. We'll talk about your food
- 18:45Speaker 2: situation in a few minutes. I know you're probably dying
- 18:47Speaker 2: to talk about that there.
- 18:48Speaker 3: It's got to be escargot, snails and frog's legs, a
- 18:52Speaker 3: bit of garlic butter.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Absolutely not. Here, Saints went into that game in New York.
- 18:59Speaker 2: under serious pressure. We heard the comments, and these are
- 19:02Speaker 2: public comments from the Benson family, acknowledging that there had
- 19:05Speaker 2: to be an improvement. And Calimura's team did. They win
- 19:10Speaker 2: the game against the Giants. They fly out to Paris,
- 19:12Speaker 2: but they've been disappointing this year. This is a real opportunity,
- 19:16Speaker 2: but also you would argue, I know it's the Giants,
- 19:19Speaker 2: but you would argue this team put up 34 points.
- 19:22Speaker 2: They put up 31 points quickly. Yes.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And then almost let the Giants, or 31 points quickly.
- 19:28Speaker 3: then almost let the giants come come back into it
- 19:31Speaker 3: so not taken away it's hard to score that many
- 19:34Speaker 3: points at that level and they executed very quickly but
- 19:36Speaker 3: you can't it's very hard to not switch off if
- 19:39Speaker 3: you get ahead like that um so i would say
- 19:42Speaker 3: well yes fantastic that they came out firing and it's
- 19:45Speaker 3: definitely stuff we want to watch letting the giants have
- 19:48Speaker 3: that second swell and come back and almost make that
- 19:50Speaker 3: a game is definitely something we want to that mindset
- 19:53Speaker 3: we kind of want to.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Target defensively they're one of the worst in the league
- 19:57Speaker 2: statistically they have struggled they are near the bottom of
- 20:01Speaker 2: the league in points allowed and yardage we've seen that
- 20:05Speaker 2: we've seen that in that iconic Monday night a few
- 20:09Speaker 2: weeks ago the the anniversary of the reopening of the Superdome,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and they fell flat. And I know that was disappointing
- 20:16Speaker 2: for a lot of Siam's fans. We can put up
- 20:19Speaker 2: points against this defense.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Was it that this is it? And hopefully Friar Muth's
- 20:22Speaker 3: calf's 100% and he's back firing. But a great time
- 20:27Speaker 3: for Dowdle to be coming back in. Warren obviously has
- 20:31Speaker 3: been playing lights out, but did look a little bit slow,
- 20:34Speaker 3: made a little bit banged up coming into that game.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Good to have Dowdle taking a couple of carries. Maybe
- 20:39Speaker 3: you get back to that left-right punch. I still think
- 20:41Speaker 3: you've got to feed Warren the majority of the runs,
- 20:43Speaker 3: but this is where our offensive line that wants to
- 20:46Speaker 3: run the ball, our running backs that want to run
- 20:48Speaker 3: the ball, our big tight ends that we know can
- 20:50Speaker 3: block and like to block. I think this is going
- 20:52Speaker 3: to be really good for us.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I think outside of the football, I remember last year
- 20:58Speaker 2: when the Steelers ran out to where the streets have
- 21:02Speaker 2: no name by U2 and the amount of tiles waving.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I am so intrigued, Mark, to see just how many
- 21:09Speaker 2: Steelers fans there are in France because seeing to the
- 21:12Speaker 2: designated home team but we know there's a lot of
- 21:14Speaker 2: people from both places flying over it's going to be
- 21:17Speaker 2: very very interesting and we know we've seen the watch
- 21:20Speaker 2: party not just in Dublin last week but in Dortmund
- 21:22Speaker 2: as well there are so many Steelers fans in Europe
- 21:24Speaker 2: and Steelers fans in the US travel everywhere that could
- 21:28Speaker 2: be a huge factor in this game.
- 21:30Speaker 3: As you said how well do we play with the
- 21:32Speaker 3: home crowd cheering us on and watching us when we
- 21:34Speaker 3: feel like we're comfortable in the stadium and we're controlling
- 21:37Speaker 3: the noise comparative to when we go into a more
- 21:41Speaker 3: hostile environment and we're having to deal with the noise. Cheapers,
- 21:45Speaker 3: we can look like a completely different team sometimes. So
- 21:47Speaker 3: hopefully there is a big travelling contingent that will be
- 21:50Speaker 3: taking over Paris this weekend.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Again, we're not trying to spout stuff here. Roger said
- 21:56Speaker 2: this is more than likely his final year in the NFL.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I thought that the game in Dublin would have been
- 22:01Speaker 2: his last internationally and he has one more sayonara moment
- 22:06Speaker 2: in Paris. in the Stade de France, you know, you
- 22:10Speaker 2: think of all the Six Nations games, the football that's
- 22:12Speaker 2: happened there, the Champions League final, the World Cup final,
- 22:14Speaker 2: the Olympics, and now Aaron Rodgers is going to be
- 22:17Speaker 2: wearing a Steelers uniform on Sunday. What an opportunity for him,
- 22:20Speaker 2: if they can just get that offence flowing, and a
- 22:23Speaker 2: wee bit more than last week, even like how they
- 22:26Speaker 2: played against the Bengals offensively. What an opportunity to go
- 22:29Speaker 2: out and show not just Steelers fans or Saints fans,
- 22:32Speaker 2: this is the only game in that window. Let's go,
- 22:35Speaker 2: simple as.
- 22:36Speaker 3: We said that last week we wanted to get the
- 22:38Speaker 3: next four games. So we're two down with two to go.
- 22:40Speaker 3: We wanted to get on a little winning streak in
- 22:42Speaker 3: this block of the season.
- 22:43Speaker 2: As much as we can.
- 22:44Speaker 3: We can't take anything for granted. The fact that statistically
- 22:48Speaker 3: the scenes haven't been great defensively does not mean they're
- 22:51Speaker 3: not going to turn up and be great defensively this week.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Everyone is too good at this level to just expect
- 22:56Speaker 3: it's going to happen. That said, we come in, we
- 22:59Speaker 3: play bully football, the football that we've been playing really well.
- 23:02Speaker 3: And Again, you can still see that if it's a
- 23:04Speaker 3: clutch situation, the calmest man in the stadium is going
- 23:07Speaker 3: to be Aaron Rodgers and he's going to get it done.
- 23:09Speaker 4: I agree.
- 23:10Speaker 3: He's going to get it done.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Rodgers and Coach McCarthy are two calm guys in terms
- 23:14Speaker 2: of they'll be able to manage it well and we'll
- 23:16Speaker 2: see what happens. Before we make game picks, a couple
- 23:18Speaker 2: of things. The French, terrible title. I only got one
- 23:21Speaker 2: of them in it. I'm sorry, Mark. I will try
- 23:23Speaker 2: and get you more of these. I believe, yes, it's...
- 23:27Speaker 2: I believe it's meant to be... Yeah, so on the...
- 23:31Speaker 2: You can get it in French, but this is in English.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Le Tourchon Terrible. But this one says Terrible Tile.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Is that in English?
- 23:39Speaker 2: It is in English. It's in English. Nice tile. A
- 23:42Speaker 2: lot of them waving this weekend. I'm going to have
- 23:44Speaker 2: to bring it over with me and try and get
- 23:45Speaker 2: a sign by a few people.
- 23:46Speaker 3: There's going to be a good wee collection of these going.
- 23:48Speaker 3: It'll be interesting to see at the end of the
- 23:50Speaker 3: season if everyone has one from all the various different countries.
- 23:54Speaker 2: We've got the nice Paris logo here as well. Yeah,
- 23:56Speaker 2: the Paris logo.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:57Speaker 2: So somebody actually asked me, I'm not even joking. what
- 24:00Speaker 2: your game day food was for week six. So let's
- 24:02Speaker 2: go week seven. 1.30 kickoff for you. So it's a
- 24:06Speaker 2: wee bit different.
- 24:07Speaker 3: What's that kickoff time? Is that at 9.30 in the morning?
- 24:09Speaker 2: 9.30 soon. So the clocks change in Europe, but they
- 24:12Speaker 2: don't change in America. It's one of the best weeks
- 24:14Speaker 2: of the year. No, but seriously, it's one of the
- 24:16Speaker 2: best weeks of the year. Think about it. Sunday night
- 24:18Speaker 2: football's on at midnight.
- 24:19Speaker 3: As it's a 9.30 a.m. start in the States, I
- 24:22Speaker 3: think I'll do like a nice big Ulster fry as
- 24:26Speaker 3: my food of choice. Because it's the middle of the day.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Big feed at midday. I like brunch, fried eggs, soda bread,
- 24:34Speaker 3: potato bread, mushrooms.
- 24:37Speaker 2: For any Steelers fan that's sitting in court going, how
- 24:39Speaker 2: long there, boy? What's the difference? I mean, there's no
- 24:42Speaker 2: real massive difference with an Ulster fry. They're like, what,
- 24:45Speaker 2: potato bread?
- 24:45Speaker 3: Just potato bread.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Soda bread?
- 24:46Speaker 3: Potato bread. We added more bread.
- 24:48Speaker 2: There's more bread.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Which is why we look like this instead of.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm a decent mid-season forward. I think I'm all right.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I think you're all right as well. I have to
- 24:58Speaker 2: be honest, look, I love a fry, right? I'm very
- 25:00Speaker 2: surprised at this answer. I thought it would have been
- 25:03Speaker 2: pain au chocolat, croissant.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I tried to float the escargot snails and frog legs
- 25:09Speaker 3: at you.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I will try frogs legs. If somebody finds me in
- 25:14Speaker 2: Paris this weekend and gets me, I will try and
- 25:16Speaker 2: find them, I promise.
- 25:17Speaker 3: You've heard it here?
- 25:18Speaker 2: I will do it. We'll do it for social media.
- 25:20Speaker 2: We'll see the crack. It's going to be a really,
- 25:23Speaker 2: really fun weekend. I'm looking forward, obviously, to breaking it
- 25:26Speaker 2: down with you. I pray, I pray a match. I
- 25:30Speaker 2: pray a match.
- 25:31Speaker 3: On the match, I've got like a 27-20 kind of
- 25:34Speaker 3: thing in my head. I'd be curious what you think
- 25:36Speaker 3: we need to take away.
- 25:37Speaker 2: It's a big threat. Kamara is, but for me, there's
- 25:41Speaker 2: two different scenarios. And the first one is the obvious
- 25:44Speaker 2: one in the sense of, we talked a second ago
- 25:46Speaker 2: about how big this game is for the Benson family.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And like this, people can roll their eyes at that.
- 25:52Speaker 2: But if you think back to last year, what it
- 25:54Speaker 2: meant for, and what it continues to mean for the
- 25:56Speaker 2: Rooney family, for the island of Ireland, it is a
- 25:58Speaker 2: big deal for them. I think the connection that the
- 26:01Speaker 2: Cedars has is the greatest in the NFL with an island.
- 26:05Speaker 2: But I do think that the Saints have put a
- 26:07Speaker 2: lot into this. This has been a long, long time coming.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And I would, for me, it's this. If it starts
- 26:14Speaker 2: off a bit like week six in Tampa Bay, it's
- 26:16Speaker 2: keeping that resiliency, keeping that consistency, because you know at
- 26:19Speaker 2: some point that Tyler Shuck is going to mess up.
- 26:22Speaker 2: That's just my opinion. It will happen eventually. They cannot
- 26:24Speaker 2: rely and lean on that run game too much throughout. However,
- 26:31Speaker 2: I just feel like the Steelers have been here. They've
- 26:34Speaker 2: done it last year in Dublin. I feel like they're
- 26:36Speaker 2: going to put up 27 to 34 points in this game.
- 26:38Speaker 2: They'll win the game. You're buying on what you said
- 26:40Speaker 2: a second ago about bringing Pat Friarroof back, finding ways,
- 26:44Speaker 2: and keeping that momentum going. Give me a 34-21 win
- 26:47Speaker 2: for the Steelers.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I love that.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Trento Cuatro.
- 26:52Speaker 3: That's Spanish.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Well, that's not good. And we're just going to keep
- 26:58Speaker 2: adding the podcast so everyone can laugh at me. That's perfect.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Say excellent. Really, really looking forward to it. And you'll
- 27:05Speaker 2: be missed this weekend, my friend. You'll be missed.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I'm sure you'll have a very good time.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I will have a croissant for you, my friend, on
- 27:12Speaker 2: Sunday morning. You've been good cracking this podcast as always.
- 27:15Speaker 2: But also, you brought in coffees for the lads. No,
- 27:18Speaker 2: you're a lifesaver. I cannot believe it's week seven. Just
- 27:21Speaker 2: a reminder for everybody. You'll be able to see the audio.
- 27:25Speaker 2: and the video coverage from Coach McCarthy, and Aaron Rodgers
- 27:28Speaker 2: press conferences, at the start of the front on Friday,
- 27:30Speaker 2: across the weekend, on Steelers Socials, this is a massive,
- 27:34Speaker 2: massive weekend, you can check out Steelers Ireland, across social
- 27:36Speaker 2: for more, there's going to be so, so much stuff
- 27:39Speaker 2: going on, you heard Mark's prediction, you heard mine, if
- 27:42Speaker 2: you're in France, hit us up, say hello, we'd love
- 27:44Speaker 2: to see you, and I'm flying back in Aer Lingus,

- 27:48Speaker 2: a big thanks to them, who sponsored the podcast, we
- 27:50Speaker 2: will see you, après Paris, take care, chat soon.
