Speaker 3: We talked to Sean about that. Plus your calls and
• 2:17
Speaker 3: text are welcome to I want to start through by
• 2:19
Speaker 3: talking a little high school football tonight WCCHS ninety six
• 2:23
Speaker 3: point five FM, one oh four point five FM and
• 2:25
Speaker 3: five to eighty, as well as the WCHS network we
• 2:28
Speaker 3: have got online. I should say, the dot com thing.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: Hurricane Redskins at home to take on Caboll Middle and
• 2:33
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence near Parker will have coverage of that game.
• 2:36
Speaker 3: Chris joins us. Now, Chris is good morning.
• 2:38
Speaker 5: Good morning. It's good to be back in the saddle.
• 2:39
Speaker 5: I actually was out a couple of days this week,
• 2:41
Speaker 5: and I was trying to get things done from where
• 2:44
Speaker 5: I was located, dealing with some family issues, and I
• 2:48
Speaker 5: repeatedly text the Cabole Middland Athletic director like we'd like
• 2:51
Speaker 5: to come down and do the game, and he finally
• 2:52
Speaker 5: texts me back. He goes, dude, it's at Hurricane. I went, okay,
• 2:56
Speaker 5: I knew that. So yes, we are at Redskins Stadium
• 2:59
Speaker 5: to night kick off at seven thirty. Will be on
• 3:02
Speaker 5: the air at seven o'clock. Cable Midland comes into this
• 3:04
Speaker 5: game three Hungary for their first win of the year.
• 3:07
Speaker 5: Probably not the year that that Knights fans are used
• 3:10
Speaker 5: to because you know, normally they're the bulldozer that's reckon
• 3:13
Speaker 5: everybody's season. Hurricane, probably Phils. It's very very rare that
• 3:19
Speaker 5: you score sixty three and lose, which is exactly what
• 3:22
Speaker 5: happened on the road at DeWitt Michigan. Lansing, Michigan is
• 3:25
Speaker 5: where they went for the last week's game.
• 3:27
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, that's what you call a road game.
• 3:29
Speaker 5: That is that is quite a road trip.
• 3:31
Speaker 3: But I saw that final score, I thought, well, maybe
• 3:33
Speaker 3: they got up there and decided to play basketball instead.
• 3:35
Speaker 3: I was thinking maybe.
• 3:36
Speaker 5: I was thinking maybe they went and they left the
• 3:37
Speaker 5: defense back in Hurricane or something. But evidently what was
• 3:41
Speaker 5: going on there, there was some special teams breakdowns there
• 3:43
Speaker 5: that need to be corrected, and that will I'm sure
• 3:47
Speaker 5: they've addressed that this week, so that'll be something to
• 3:49
Speaker 5: keep an eye on tonight. One of the storylines of
• 3:51
Speaker 5: the game this evening, as Hurricane takes on Cable Midland
• 3:54
Speaker 5: in a rivalry that dates back not too many years,
• 3:57
Speaker 5: but these two teams have played every year since Cable Mide.
• 4:00
  Speaker 5: It's been a school and it's been a pretty evenly
• 4:02
Speaker 5: matched series over the course of time.
• 4:05
Speaker 3: Indeed, and again we'll have covered starting.
• 4:06
Speaker 5: That's seven o'clock will be on the air and seven
• 4:09
Speaker 5: thirty is the kickoff.
• 4:10
Speaker 3: And of course after the game, stick around for Dave
• 4:12
Speaker 3: Jaqueline fred Pertz singer with all the scores from around
• 4:14
Speaker 3: the state of West Virginia. I know all the schools
• 4:17
Speaker 3: are going to be watching the weather. There's been a
• 4:19
Speaker 3: little bit of a change because initially they said they're
• 4:21
Speaker 3: going to be playing in a whole lot of rain.
• 4:23
Speaker 3: Looks like now from what I'm saying, this is probably
• 4:26
Speaker 3: it's going to wind down a little bit by these
• 4:28
Speaker 3: high school game nights. Yeah, I don't think.
• 4:29
Speaker 5: I don't think it's going to be at you know,
• 4:31
Speaker 5: at you know, the level where it's going to be miserable.
• 4:34
Speaker 5: I think there might be a little bit of rain,
• 4:36
Speaker 5: but I think wind might impact some things because the
• 4:39
Speaker 5: wind is an issue, and certainly that can impact a
• 4:42
Speaker 5: team that likes to throw it, so keep that in
• 4:43
  Speaker 5: mind as well.
• 4:44
Speaker 3: All right, what do we have on Western now Doors
• 4:46
  Speaker 3: tomorrow morning?
• 4:46
  Speaker 6: Tomorrow?
• 4:47
Speaker 5: It is the layout of the twenty twenty four Masted
• 4:49
Speaker 5: survey that E and R does this every year to
• 4:52
Speaker 5: inventory the wildlife food sources for the coming year. And
• 4:55
Speaker 5: of course archery season opens up this weekend, so a
• 4:59
Speaker 5: very big deal where you're I'm down in the one
• 5:00
Speaker 5: of the archery only counties, Logan County, so we will
• 5:03
Speaker 5: we'll lay out the information from the masted survey in
• 5:07
  Speaker 5: tomorrow's I.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: Know you'll appreciate this. I'm going to get real quick
• 5:10
Speaker 3: before I let you go. The story that happened. I
• 5:12
Speaker 3: think it was one week ago today that there was
• 5:16
Speaker 3: the school I think it was the Sharon Dawes Elementary
• 5:18
Speaker 3: School at Cabin Creek. They dismissed because all the school,
• 5:22
Speaker 3: you know, there's all this noise going on about the
• 5:24
Speaker 3: school shootings and whatever, and it just happened to be
• 5:28
Speaker 3: this particular a situation. A gentleman was squirrel hunting way
• 5:32
Speaker 3: too close to the school. And I told the listeners this,
• 5:34
Speaker 3: I said, as a kid of the nineteen seventies, boys
• 5:37
Speaker 3: in our class and some probably some girls too, brought
• 5:40
Speaker 3: their guns to school, put them in their lockers, and
• 5:43
Speaker 3: then went went out and went squirrel hunting at three
• 5:46
Speaker 3: five or three point fifteen, as did I, not today,
• 5:50
Speaker 3: as did I. We actually we used to come to school.
• 5:54
Speaker 3: I would go squirrel hunting before school. I'd be out
• 5:57
Speaker 3: there at daylight, and then I would show up at
• 5:59
Speaker 3: whenever the school started, seven thirty forty five something like that,
• 6:03
Speaker 3: generally late. But the one thing that our principal recognized
• 6:07
Speaker 3: the situation and said, look, I don't want a bunch
• 6:10
Speaker 3: of shotguns in the backs of pickup trucks.
• 6:13
Speaker 5: Bring them to my office. So we would carry uncased
• 6:16
Speaker 5: firearms through the front door, down the hall and set
• 6:19
Speaker 5: them in the principal's office, which looked like it looked
• 6:22
Speaker 5: like the back wall at spring Hill rod and gun.
• 6:25
Speaker 5: By the time lunchtime rolled around different times. Man, it
• 6:28
Speaker 5: was when I tell people that story, they simply cannot
• 6:31
Speaker 5: believe it. But it's the God's honest trip.
• 6:34
Speaker 3: I know the same thing, all right, Chris, I appreciate it, man,
• 6:36
Speaker 3: Thanks everybody. Let's move to Tom Bragg, who, along with
• 6:39
Speaker 3: Matt Murphy, will be doing the Huskies game against Cistinville tonight,
• 6:43
Speaker 3: big rivalry game tonight, Tom Bragg, good morning, Welcome to
• 6:46
  Speaker 3: the show.
• 6:47
Speaker 6: Hi Dave, how are you guys doing this morning?
• 6:49
Speaker 3: Doing good? I got your cohort in there. He's producing
• 6:51
Speaker 3: the show today. Matt Murphy feverishly working away on game
• 6:56
Speaker 3: prep while he's doing that. All right, So we'll have
• 6:58
Speaker 3: the Hurricane and Caboll midle game on WCCHS and then
• 7:01
Speaker 3: over on our sister station ninety six to one KWS.
• 7:04
Speaker 3: You guys have got the Huskies in Systemville. This should
• 7:07
Speaker 3: be a good one.
• 7:08
Speaker 6: You know, it's an old rivalry. These are two programs
• 7:11
Speaker 6: geographically located pretty close to each other. They've they've kind
• 7:15
Speaker 6: of been grouped in that same like middle tier of
• 7:17
Speaker 6: the classifications for years. Long time Double A teams, they've
• 7:20
Speaker 6: been in the Cardinal Conference together for a long time.
• 7:22
Speaker 6: These teams, these kids, they know each other. They've been
• 7:25
Speaker 6: playing each other in things since they were three and
• 7:27
Speaker 6: four years old. And I expect a hard fought game tonight.
• 7:30
Speaker 6: Times have been tough for Sistmville football the last couple
• 7:33
Speaker 6: of years, and it hasn't been as tough for Herbert Hoover.
• 7:36
Speaker 6: The Huskies have things going pretty well right now, come
• 7:38
Speaker 6: into this game three and zero off of a bye week.
• 7:41
Speaker 6: Last time out dramatic win down at Nitro, Dane Hatfield
• 7:44
Speaker 6: bust a quarterback keeper in overtime to win it. And
• 7:47
Speaker 6: for Sissomville last time out, Clay County hung sixty eight
• 7:50
Speaker 6: points on him last week. So defense could be an
• 7:54
Speaker 6: issue for the Indians tonight with what Herbert Hoover has
• 7:57
Speaker 6: to offer. And the Huskies aren't just all one guy.
• 8:00
Speaker 6: It's not just quarterback Dane Hatfield. They've had a pretty
• 8:02
Speaker 6: good running back in Blake Fisher two. So, like I said, Dave,
• 8:06
Speaker 6: it's just it's been tough times for Assistanmville football the
• 8:08
Speaker 6: last couple of years. Hoover kind of has it rolling
• 8:10
Speaker 6: right now. Could be could be tough tasks for the
• 8:12
  Speaker 6: Indians tonight.
• 8:13
Speaker 3: Well, of course that's why they play the games, as
• 8:15
Speaker 3: they say, and this is this is a rivalry. And
• 8:17
Speaker 3: as Chris and I talked about, weather could be a
• 8:20
Speaker 3: factor maybe win more so than rain. And so when
• 8:23
Speaker 3: when it gets wendy out there, you never know what
• 8:25
  Speaker 3: will happen.
• 8:27
Speaker 6: Yeah, wind, and even if it's not like actively raining
• 8:29
Speaker 6: or pouring, it's still gonna be damp. It's going to
• 8:31
Speaker 6: be slick out there, and crazy things happen when the
• 8:34
Speaker 6: one the ball gets a little bit damp. As we've
• 8:36
Speaker 6: all seen those games where you think, oh, man, this
• 8:38
Speaker 6: team's got it in the bag, and then a couple
• 8:40
Speaker 6: of turnovers, a fumble here, maybe an interception here, and
• 8:43
Speaker 6: things go sideways for him. So whover needs to be
• 8:46
Speaker 6: on guard for that tonight. On paper, it looks like
• 8:48
Speaker 6: they should should have a pretty easy time with Systemville.
• 8:51
Speaker 6: But like you said, that's why the games are played
• 8:53
Speaker 6: on the field and not on paper. It'll be interesting
• 8:55
  Speaker 6: for sure.
• 8:56
Speaker 3: And our coverage begins at.
• 8:58
Speaker 6: We'll be onto the air at about six tonight.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: All right, that'll be in our sister station ninety six
• 9:02
Speaker 3: one KWS. You'r home for the Huskies all season long. Tom,
• 9:06
Speaker 3: you and Matt have a good broadcast tonight. I appreciate it, Man,
• 9:08
  Speaker 3: thanks a lot.
• 9:08
Speaker 6: All right, Thanks Dave, We'll talk next week.

Speaker 3: DoPT Me Please pet of the Week from the Canal
• 9:26
Speaker 3: Charleston New Main Association. Hannah, good morning, welcome to the show.
• 9:29
Speaker 7: Good morning, how are you.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. Let's get right to our pet of
• 9:34
Speaker 3: the week has always picture posted to Dave Allen Radio
• 9:37
Speaker 3: on Facebook and on the Twitter page at Dave A
• 9:40
Speaker 3: seventy as well. The Story of Jumanji tell us all
• 9:43
Speaker 3: about Jumanji all right.
• 9:46
Speaker 7: So he was actually a surrender to us due to
• 9:50
Speaker 7: no fault of his own. He is a very very
• 9:53
Speaker 7: sweet boy. He's very social, he's very friendly, love people.
• 9:59
Speaker 7: He definitely is not fixed yet, but he will be.
• 10:04
Speaker 7: And he is a male. Of course, he's about one
• 10:08
Speaker 7: year old, and we go by the guns in their teeth,
• 10:11
Speaker 7: so it could be a little bit different, could be
• 10:13
Speaker 7: a little older, a little less or a little younger.
• 10:16
Speaker 7: And then he does pull on the leash sometimes, but
• 10:20
Speaker 7: with some proper training and working with him, he could
• 10:23
Speaker 7: get a lot better at that. He does have a
• 10:25
Speaker 7: lot of energy, so that could sim from you know
• 10:28
Speaker 7: him or not sim from but that could just make
• 10:31
Speaker 7: him want to pull on that leash. So working with
• 10:35
Speaker 7: him and getting his energy out all of that would
• 10:38
Speaker 7: be a great, great idea for him. He would be
• 10:40
Speaker 7: a good family dog.
• 10:41
  Speaker 8: I would say.
• 10:43
Speaker 7: He has shown to do good with kids in our care.
• 10:47
Speaker 7: Of course, we always advise caution, no matter how friendly
• 10:50
Speaker 7: we say that we've seen them with kids, just because
• 10:53
Speaker 7: you never want to take that risk or that chance.
• 10:55
Speaker 7: You always want to be careful. But he's a very
• 10:58
Speaker 7: very sweet boy, and he is around forty one pounds.
• 11:01
Speaker 8: So he's fully grown.
• 11:03
Speaker 7: He's not really going to get any bigger unless he
• 11:05
Speaker 7: gets bigger like weight wise, not really like size.
• 11:09
Speaker 3: It happens to the best of us, Hannah, just say
• 11:11
Speaker 3: it happens to the best of us.
• 11:13
Speaker 7: Yeah, uh huh exactly. But he's he's a very very
• 11:16
Speaker 7: sweet boy, and he's looking for his forever home. And
• 11:19
Speaker 7: he definitely, I would say, would benefit from a family
• 11:23
Speaker 7: that maybe has more like outdoor time where he can
• 11:26
Speaker 7: run around and play with toys stuff like that.
• 11:29
Speaker 3: All right, we'll get back and review Jumanji here in
• 11:32
Speaker 3: a couple of moments. I saw your post yesterday. You
• 11:35
Speaker 3: guys are pretty much at critical levels now, Hannah, as
• 11:38
Speaker 3: far as your space at the shelter goes, I mean
• 11:40
Speaker 3: you've got dogs and cats just about every every available
• 11:43
Speaker 3: room in that building, is that right?
• 11:46
Speaker 8: Yes, I believe we had about two sixty nine two
• 11:51
Speaker 8: seventy dogs, and that's just in animals care in general,
• 11:57
Speaker 8: so that's foster homes and in the shelter, and I
• 12:01
Speaker 8: believe we have around one ninety under.
• 12:03
Speaker 7: The shelter housing. And then of course we have more
• 12:08
Speaker 7: and like better in stray Hold. We have more and
• 12:12
Speaker 7: foster more everywhere, pretty much off the bathrooms everywhere. Again,
• 12:17
Speaker 7: so we are doing the special where all the candle dogs,
• 12:21
Speaker 7: the adult kendle dogs are zero dollars to adopt, and
• 12:23
Speaker 7: then all other animals are twenty dollars right now, So
• 12:27
Speaker 7: definitely come take advantage of that. If you can't adopt, foster,
• 12:30
Speaker 7: if you can't foster, donate, volunteer, anything you can do
• 12:34
Speaker 7: to help out. We would appreciate it very very much.
• 12:37
Speaker 3: And of course you're always in need, as we said,
• 12:39
Speaker 3: as you just kind of mentioned there, cat litter, towels,
• 12:42
Speaker 3: paper towels, food. When you got this many animals, Hannah,
• 12:45
Speaker 3: it does not take long to delete the inventory.
• 12:49
Speaker 7: No, it's definitely goes very very very fast. I know
• 12:52
Speaker 7: that we are in need of being a dog chow, kitten, chow,
• 12:56
Speaker 7: wet fooit of any kind, puppy chow. Of course, we're
• 12:59
Speaker 7: always is in need of the used Lindens if anybody
• 13:03
Speaker 7: has any and cleaning splos longerarge it really everything right now.
• 13:06
Speaker 3: We're kind of in need of all right, all right, Well,
• 13:09
Speaker 3: hopefully our listeners have always come through in the past,
• 13:12
Speaker 3: whether it's adopting or or donations or whatever. Appreciate it.
• 13:16
Speaker 3: Thank you very much, and we'll talk again next week.
• 13:19
Speaker 7: All right, we'll see either.
• 13:21
Speaker 3: Nine to twenty again. The pets this week is Jumanji,
• 13:24
Speaker 3: one year old male, not fixed yet but will be.
• 13:27
Speaker 3: Was surrendered to the shelter, we understand due to no fault.
• 13:30
  Speaker 9: Of his own.
• 13:31
Speaker 3: Seems to be a very social dog. We'll probably do
• 13:33
Speaker 3: better with calmer dogs. Seems to do well around kids,
• 13:37
Speaker 3: but his Hannah always says, we do advise caution. Dog's
• 13:39
Speaker 3: around forty one pounds, so it's probably not going to
• 13:41
Speaker 3: get a whole lot bigger unless he gets fatter. Like
• 13:43
Speaker 3: I said, it happens to the best of us. Does
• 13:45
Speaker 3: pull slightly on a leash, so you know, it may
• 13:48
Speaker 3: take a little bit of training, but Jumanji would be
• 13:50
Speaker 3: a great, great pet. And I've got his picture posted
• 13:53

• 17:51
Speaker 3: I want to talk about this as send program that
• 17:53
Speaker 3: you have at Bridge Valley. You've had quite the success
• 17:58
Speaker 3: with it, and people are starting to notice it. Ex
• 18:00
Speaker 3: the program. To explain what I mean by people are
• 18:02
Speaker 3: starting to notice it.
• 18:03
Speaker 12: Yeah, So the ASCEND program has been our attempt to
• 18:07
Speaker 12: try and give students supports so that they can be
• 18:09
Speaker 12: more successful on campus. We saw that it happened in
• 18:12
Speaker 12: a couple other states and wanted to replicate it here
• 18:14
Speaker 12: in West Virginia, so we got some grants to be
• 18:17
Speaker 12: able to pay for it, and essentially we offer case
• 18:20
Speaker 12: management to students. We require certain things from them were
• 18:24
Speaker 12: they keep their grades up and come talk to their advisor,
• 18:26
Speaker 12: and that they go to mandatory tutoring. And in exchange
• 18:29
Speaker 12: for those required things, we give them stuff like gas cards,
• 18:33
Speaker 12: support with childcare. If they have a flat tire, we
• 18:36
Speaker 12: want to help get that fixed because we've seen that
• 18:38
Speaker 12: students could just be a flat tire away from having
• 18:41
Speaker 12: to drop out of school. So it's been really important
• 18:43
Speaker 12: to help give them the things they need so that
• 18:45
Speaker 12: they don't drop out of school and as a result,
• 18:48
Speaker 12: we've seen that our ascend students are staying at twenty
• 18:51
Speaker 12: percent better than students who aren't receiving those financial supports.
• 18:55
Speaker 3: We talked when You're on the show a lot about
• 18:58
Speaker 3: the nursing programs at Bridge Valley. I know applications are
• 19:03
Speaker 3: now available, I guess for the spring semester, or they
• 19:05
  Speaker 3: will be soon.
• 19:06
  Speaker 11: Is that right?
• 19:06
Speaker 6: They're out right now.
• 19:07
Speaker 12: Folks have already started to turn their stuff in. But
• 19:09
Speaker 12: if you've decided that you're ready to change your life
• 19:12
Speaker 12: and you want to be a nurse, turn in your
• 19:13
Speaker 12: application for the spring right now.
• 19:15
Speaker 3: And talk about the need for nurses in West Virginia.
• 19:18
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, we talk about it all the time.
• 19:20
Speaker 3: We have the oldest state as far as our average
• 19:24
Speaker 3: population goes, and unfortunately a lot of our young people
• 19:29
Speaker 3: are leaving after high school or maybe when they after
• 19:31
Speaker 3: you know, some sort of post high school education. We're
• 19:34
Speaker 3: trying to get them back. So you put those together,
• 19:36
Speaker 3: Doctor Saxson, is kind of like the perfect storm for
• 19:38
Speaker 3: a big time need for nurses and other folks in
• 19:41
Speaker 3: the medical community. In West Virginia.
• 19:43
Speaker 12: All kinds of medical professions are needed. So even if
• 19:46
Speaker 12: you decide nursing maybe isn't your thing and you'd rather
• 19:48
Speaker 12: look in a microscope. We need those people too. I
• 19:52
Speaker 12: was just talking to a friend at WVU Medicine who
• 19:54
Speaker 12: was saying that we still have nineteen percent more job
• 19:58
Speaker 12: openings than anybody else, that we really have this tremendous
• 20:01
Speaker 12: need in healthcare professionals, and that anything we can do
• 20:04
Speaker 12: to help fill those gaps is going to be necessary
• 20:07
Speaker 12: for the next twenty years in the labor market. So
• 20:09
  Speaker 12: it's a good job today and it's a good job
• 20:11
Speaker 12: for the sustainable future.
• 20:13
Speaker 3: I want to address something that we had actually have
• 20:15
Speaker 3: a text here for you as well. You're getting quite popular.
• 20:17
Speaker 3: You have your own text waiting on you when you
• 20:19
Speaker 3: get here. How cold is that. But last time we
• 20:22
Speaker 3: had you on the show, somebody texted in and you
• 20:24
Speaker 3: had already I think, hung up with us. But you
• 20:27
Speaker 3: were able to answer the program, answer the question I
• 20:29
Speaker 3: should say, and I got the answer out. But the
• 20:31
Speaker 3: question was somebody wanted to know, is there an opportunity
• 20:34
Speaker 3: at some point, with the success of Bridge Valley for
• 20:38
Speaker 3: the college to one day have athletic programs. That's not
• 20:42
Speaker 3: going to happen. And you explained to me via text,
• 20:44
Speaker 3: which I then explained to the listeners, but why is
• 20:47
Speaker 3: that not going to happen?
• 20:48
Speaker 12: So sadly, state code actually prohibits community and technical colleges
• 20:52
Speaker 12: from fielding sports teams.
• 20:54
Speaker 3: So that's it. It would just have to be changed, right,
• 20:57
Speaker 3: then we could see the Bridge Valley. What would the
• 20:58
Speaker 3: nickname of Bridge Valley?
• 21:00
Speaker 12: Our icon is the Pathfinders.
• 21:04
Speaker 3: The Pathfinders our students.
• 21:06
Speaker 12: Actually last year, our students talked about if they wanted
• 21:09
Speaker 12: to be to have something different or if they wanted
• 21:11
Speaker 12: the pathfinder to be a specific animal, but they hadn't
• 21:13
Speaker 12: landed on anything yet, so that would really be up
• 21:15
Speaker 12: to our student government to make a decision about if
• 21:18
Speaker 12: they wanted something different.
• 21:19
Speaker 3: Well, all right, we'll give them a project. Then how's that?
• 21:22
  Speaker 12: They're a pretty great group.
• 21:24
Speaker 3: Somebody texted the show and said about something you said earlier,
• 21:27
Speaker 3: and they said, when you say grants, are those tax
• 21:30
  Speaker 3: dollars sometimes?
• 21:32
Speaker 12: So grants come from all kinds of different sources. There's
• 21:35
Speaker 12: federal grants, which yes, are federal tax dollars at work,
• 21:39
Speaker 12: State grants that are state tax dollars at work, and
• 21:42
Speaker 12: then there are foundation grants that are private philanthropy that
• 21:45
Speaker 12: people have decided to dedicate towards the school.
• 21:48
Speaker 3: Okay, question answered, I know Bridge Valley recently picked up
• 21:52
Speaker 3: a three million dollar award for an industrial assessment center.
• 21:56
Speaker 3: How did that come about and what will it be
• 21:57
  Speaker 3: used for?
• 21:58
  Speaker 8: We did so.
• 21:59
Speaker 12: The United States Department of Energy did a a request
• 22:03
Speaker 12: for proposals where they said, we're looking for community colleges
• 22:06
Speaker 12: in particular that can help expand the manufacturing employment base
• 22:10
Speaker 12: and support manufacturing employers in their area. So we got
• 22:13
Speaker 12: together with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College that's out
• 22:17
Speaker 12: in the east and with WVU and together wrote an
• 22:20
Speaker 12: award for three million dollars that was chosen to help
• 22:24
Speaker 12: expand manufacturing right here in West Virginia.
• 22:26
Speaker 3: And that's certainly certainly needed. Talking to doctor Casey Sacksbridge

  Speaker 3: and we're so.
• 23:01
Speaker 12: Excited about it. We hope you'll come out. Pumpkin Drop
• 23:04
Speaker 12: is an opportunity for middle and high school students to
• 23:06
  Speaker 12: build a contraption that'll protect a pumpkin from a two
• 23:09
Speaker 12: or three story fall. And so it's a lot of
• 23:12
Speaker 12: fun to see different schools come out from all over
• 23:14
Speaker 12: the region and what their students have engineered and put together,
• 23:17
Speaker 12: and then they work with our engineering faculty and they
• 23:21
Speaker 12: win awards. It's just it's a good time.
• 23:23
Speaker 3: And I will mention, as I did last time you're
• 23:25
Speaker 3: on that our own Steve Animal from our sister station
• 23:27
Speaker 3: nine eight seven, a mountain, wild and wonderful classic rock,
• 23:30

• 23:33

• 23:35
Speaker 3: just likes to see stuff break.
• 23:37
Speaker 12: I'll go with whatever gets you there.
• 23:40
Speaker 3: He's gonna he always has a good time with it.
• 23:42
Speaker 3: And even before he started working with us here, I
• 23:44
Speaker 3: talked to Steve, and I of course known each other forever,
• 23:46
Speaker 3: and he always looked forward to it. He always said
• 23:49
Speaker 3: that he loves being there for the pumpkin drop.
• 23:52
Speaker 12: It's really fun to see what the kids put together
• 23:54
Speaker 12: and how excited some of them are when they're pumpkin
• 23:56
Speaker 12: braces or doesn't break and their parents come. It's really
• 23:59
Speaker 12: a good family act.
• 24:00
Speaker 3: I mean you how many different schools and different students
• 24:03
Speaker 3: do you have out there? I mean, because because don't
• 24:04
Speaker 3: you bring in other schools as well? I mean like
• 24:06
  Speaker 3: public schools.
• 24:07
  Speaker 10: That's right, that's the goal.
• 24:08
  Speaker 3: That's the goal.
• 24:09
Speaker 12: Yeah, to help kids from public stools all over the region.
• 24:13
Speaker 12: And so it just it kind of depends on the year,
• 24:15
Speaker 12: but we average fifty or sixty different groups of kids
• 24:18
Speaker 12: who come in and build pumpkins and drop them.
• 24:20
  Speaker 3: That's a lot of schools. Luckily, you've got a huge
• 24:23
Speaker 3: campus up there to get those buses up there.
• 24:25
Speaker 12: Well, and we don't do it here. We do it.
• 24:27

Speaker 3: following what I think was three different public meetings, the
• 29:42
Speaker 3: board met and came to some final decisions. Sean Hill
• 29:44
Speaker 3: as executive director of KRT, and he joins us this
• 29:47
Speaker 3: morning at the Palmar Store studio. Sewan, good morning, Welcome
• 29:49
  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 29:50
Speaker 16: Hey, good morning, Dave, thanks for having me, a thank
• 29:51
Speaker 16: you for being here.
• 29:52
Speaker 3: Before we get to the final decisions that were made
• 29:55
Speaker 3: by the board yesterday, what was it, and you've been
• 29:58
Speaker 3: on the show talking about this in the pass what
• 30:00
Speaker 3: was it that led to all this, the public meetings,
• 30:02
Speaker 3: all the tough decisions that had to be made. Why
• 30:06
Speaker 3: was Kart looking and making changes at all?
• 30:08
Speaker 16: Sure, So, the simplest way to explain this is to
• 30:11
Speaker 16: balance a budget. We have a responsibility to the taxpayers
• 30:15
Speaker 16: of Kanah County to balance our budget, and we've noticed
• 30:17
Speaker 16: over the last couple of years that as our service
• 30:19
Speaker 16: has grown, the expenses associated with that service has also grown,
• 30:24
Speaker 16: and your dollar doesn't go as far today as it
• 30:26
Speaker 16: went yesterday, and so as those costs continue to go up,
• 30:30
Speaker 16: we had to look at our system and say, Okay,
• 30:31
Speaker 16: what's working, what's not working? How can we make the
• 30:34
Speaker 16: most responsible decisions with the dollars we have to make
• 30:37
Speaker 16: sure that they can go as.
• 30:38
Speaker 3: Far as possible. And what was the ultimate decision that
• 30:40
Speaker 3: came out of the board meeting yesterday?
• 30:41
Speaker 16: Yes So, yesterday our full board embraced the recommendation of
• 30:44
Speaker 16: a smaller subcommittee that looked at this system plan, and
• 30:47
Speaker 16: the recommendations will essentially it. If you look back six
• 30:50
Speaker 16: months ago, we said, hey, we're going to look at
• 30:53
Speaker 16: eliminating these eleven routes across Kanawac County that are underperforming
• 30:56
Speaker 16: or over subsidized. The plan that was approved yesterday says,
• 30:59
Speaker 16: instead of liminitating those, we're going to cut their frequency
• 31:01
Speaker 16: in half. So maybe they used to come eight times today,
• 31:04
Speaker 16: now they'll come four. Still get people to and from work,
• 31:07
Speaker 16: make sure that individuals can still ride the bus during
• 31:09
Speaker 16: the weekdays. This the plan yesterday also eliminates Sunday service,
• 31:13
Speaker 16: which is a huge point of contention whether or not
• 31:16
Speaker 16: we could or couldn't eliminate Sunday service. By eliminating Sunday service,
• 31:21
Speaker 16: that costs about six hundred thousand dollars between five and
• 31:23
Speaker 16: six hundred thousand dollars a year, which is a huge
• 31:25
Speaker 16: hurdle for us. We're one of only in Morgantown they
• 31:29
Speaker 16: offer service on Sundays to help with the university, but
• 31:32
Speaker 16: only about twenty four of the one hundred and seventy
• 31:35
Speaker 16: five public transit agencies and surrounding states offers service on Sundays.
• 31:39
Speaker 16: So our board made that tough decision to eliminate Sunday service,
• 31:42
Speaker 16: and then our Saturday service schedule is going to be
• 31:45
Speaker 16: reminiscent of what our Sunday service was before. So there's
• 31:48
Speaker 16: a lot of changes. But the reality is, Look, everyone
• 31:51
Speaker 16: who had service who was nervous or had anxiety about
• 31:56
Speaker 16: the fact that Kart was going to eliminate their route,
• 31:58
Speaker 16: that's not happening. Zero that's being eliminated.
• 32:01
Speaker 3: But I mean it is going to obviously, and I
• 32:03
Speaker 3: know there's no way around this that it is going
• 32:05
Speaker 3: to inconvenience some people. I know our stations where they
• 32:07
Speaker 3: are covering the meetings, and I know the local TV
• 32:09
Speaker 3: stations and newspaper were there as well, and what they
• 32:11
Speaker 3: heard from people. There was one quote from one particular
• 32:14
Speaker 3: gentleman that I know we interviewed and we also saw
• 32:17
Speaker 3: him on television when he said, oh, well, I guess
• 32:19
Speaker 3: I just won't work on Sundays now, because you know,
• 32:22
  Speaker 3: and that's a sad reality.
• 32:24
Speaker 16: Though, Sean exactly. And that's something we don't take lightly.
• 32:27
Speaker 16: And that's why this process took us over two years
• 32:29
Speaker 16: to go through. It's why we had three public hearings,
• 32:32
Speaker 16: we had over six hundred comments. I think we have
• 32:35
Speaker 16: two major responsibilities a KRT. One is the responsibility to
• 32:38
Speaker 16: our passengers to provide where we say, safe, convenient, accessible, affordable,
• 32:42
Speaker 16: reliable transportation, and we take that extremely seriously. But again,
• 32:46
Speaker 16: we also have a responsibility to the taxpayers of Kanawha
• 32:49
Speaker 16: County to say, hey, the funding you give to us,
• 32:51
Speaker 16: we're going to make sure that we use that responsibly
• 32:54
Speaker 16: and push the dollars as far as we possibly can,
• 32:56
Speaker 16: but we're not going to make our own decisions that
• 32:58
Speaker 16: are you know, not responsible with that funding.
• 33:02
Speaker 3: But obviously KRT is still a very viable thing because
• 33:06
Speaker 3: based on solely the numbers of people that showed up
• 33:09
Speaker 3: at these public meetings or way in online or whatever.
• 33:11
Speaker 3: I mean. The public was very obviously very concerned about.
• 33:13
  Speaker 2: This, exactly.
• 33:14
Speaker 16: They were very concerned and it showed the system work.
• 33:16
Speaker 16: They came out and they said, hey, can you please
• 33:17
Speaker 16: cut back instead of cutting out? And our board heard
• 33:20
Speaker 16: that and the response and what we saw passed yesterday
• 33:22
Speaker 16: was exactly that was. It said, hey, and instead of
• 33:25
Speaker 16: taking those eleven routes and getting rid of them, we're
• 33:27
Speaker 16: going to minimize the frequency but still keep them so
• 33:30
Speaker 16: those individuals can still ride to and from every single.
• 33:32
Speaker 3: So when you talk about explain how that's going to work.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: And give me an example if you can shunt of
• 33:37
Speaker 3: a particular area when you say you're going to you're
• 33:39
Speaker 3: going to lessen some of the routes. Just take any
• 33:41
Speaker 3: one of your routes off the top of your head
• 33:42
Speaker 3: that you think is a good example of what it's
• 33:44
Speaker 3: going to look like. So the people will be able
• 33:46
Speaker 3: to understand a little bit better.
• 33:48
  Speaker 6: Exactly.
• 33:48
Speaker 16: So let's say you the South Hills route runs eight
• 33:51
Speaker 16: times a day. What we would do is we'll go
• 33:54
Speaker 16: in into we have data that shows, hey, people get
• 33:57
Speaker 16: on the bus at this time, they get off the
• 33:58
Speaker 16: bus at this time. And what we will do is
• 34:00
Speaker 16: try to if we take those eight routes and tournament
• 34:03
Speaker 16: of four, what we'll do is be smart about it
• 34:05
Speaker 16: and look at hey, okay, well, usually people get on
• 34:07
Speaker 16: the bus at seven am because they're going to work,
• 34:09
Speaker 16: or they come home at three forty five, four or five,
• 34:11
Speaker 16: whatever time. We will keep those four routes and then
• 34:14
Speaker 16: the midday routes you know, will go away. But at
• 34:18
Speaker 16: the same time, and one thing I want to lean
• 34:20
Speaker 16: on too, we didn't just take those routes away and
• 34:21
Speaker 16: then say hey, good luck. During the middle of the day.
• 34:24
Speaker 16: We're creating this new system, this KRT plus on demand
• 34:27
Speaker 16: ride share service where during the middle of the day,
• 34:29
Speaker 16: if you're in those zones that are active, you can
• 34:31
Speaker 16: get on your phone or you can call into the
• 34:32
Speaker 16: krt's office and we'll come pick you up in a
• 34:34
Speaker 16: vehicle and take you to the main line. So the
• 34:37
Speaker 16: service will still exist for you in time. It's just
• 34:41
Speaker 16: going to be a different It's a change.
• 34:42
Speaker 3: Change is hard, it is and you talked about that,
• 34:45
Speaker 3: I think the last time that you were on the show.
• 34:47
Speaker 3: So how's the development of that coming along.
• 34:49
Speaker 16: Yeah, so we're rolling out the pilot right now. And
• 34:52
Speaker 16: anytime you introduce you mix software and public transit and anything,
• 34:55
Speaker 16: and then you've got some headaches and we're ironing those out.
• 34:59
Speaker 16: We anticipate the this fall we'll be able to make
• 35:02
Speaker 16: a big public push to say, hey, download a KRT
• 35:04
Speaker 16: plus app. It's in the stores now. You can download
• 35:07
Speaker 16: and use the system. But it's we're still ironing out
• 35:11
Speaker 16: some of those issues, but it's gonna work well, and
• 35:14
Speaker 16: we're really excited about it because we think it's going
• 35:16
Speaker 16: to open up Kart to individuals who historically have never
• 35:19
Speaker 16: used KRT system. They're not going to ride the bus maybe,
• 35:22
Speaker 16: but they will take it to the airport. They will
• 35:23
Speaker 16: take a shuttle to home from a restaurant or a
• 35:26
Speaker 16: sporting event, et cetera. And that's where we're going to
• 35:28
Speaker 16: capture some new revenue also to help get this.
• 35:31
Speaker 3: Issue so instead of you riding the bus with however
• 35:34
Speaker 3: many people are on air how many people are on
• 35:36
  Speaker 3: an average bus.
• 35:37
Speaker 16: Route, It just depends on the route. Yeah, when we
• 35:39
Speaker 16: talk about those four routes that are really well ridden,
• 35:42
Speaker 16: you're talking about an average of twenty to thirty people
• 35:44
  Speaker 16: on a bus.
• 35:45
Speaker 3: Okay, so instead of having twenty to thirty people with
• 35:47
Speaker 3: this new with a new ride share system, you'd be
• 35:50
Speaker 3: the only person possibly argue that, yeah, or that could
• 35:52
Speaker 3: possibly be another we just like with Uber or something.
• 35:54
  Speaker 3: I guess right.
• 35:54
Speaker 16: Exactly, there could be others because the system tries to
• 35:57
Speaker 16: maximize the efficiencies. So there's a chance you could be
• 35:59
Speaker 16: in there with someone else, but you're in a smaller vehicle.
• 36:01
Speaker 3: We're looking for are these are these traditional cars or
• 36:05
Speaker 3: vans or what we're looking at.
• 36:06
Speaker 16: So what we have right now is we have a
• 36:08
Speaker 16: fleet of we call them pair of transit vans because
• 36:09
Speaker 16: they are eighty accessible. They have lifts in them, but
• 36:11
Speaker 16: we're purchasing thirteen. They're sprinter style vans, so they hold
• 36:15
Speaker 16: about twelve individuals in them. But they're they're almost like
• 36:18
Speaker 16: a church van exactly. Yeah, church vans cart church vans
• 36:21
Speaker 16: will come pick you up and take you to where
• 36:23
Speaker 16: you need to go. Take you to the airport, We'll
• 36:25
Speaker 16: take you to inside of the zones that are turned on.
• 36:28
  Speaker 16: And that's it's a big deal, and it's it's a
• 36:30
Speaker 16: way again we're making our dollar go further with a
• 36:32
Speaker 16: news service. It's different but it's a new service that
• 36:35
Speaker 16: will actually help more citizens.
• 36:36
  Speaker 8: In the county.
• 36:37
Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Sean Hill from KRT to Dave
• 36:39
Speaker 3: Allen showing five eighty live is presented about General Hardware
• 36:42
Speaker 3: of Windfield and Milton and General Lumber of wind Field.
• 36:44
Speaker 3: All projects big and small, they can handle it shop locally.
• 36:47
Speaker 3: Who is a General Hardware WV dot com. You talk
• 36:49
Speaker 3: about funding, CHOHn explained to the folks that may not
• 36:52
Speaker 3: know how exactly is KRT funded.
• 36:54
Speaker 16: Sure, So we have several different revenue streams. Our primary
• 36:57
Speaker 16: the largest majority of our funding comes from the Knaw
• 36:59
Speaker 16: County Public Safety Levee. So about fifty five percent of
• 37:02
Speaker 16: our funding comes from the safety levee, and that's the
• 37:05
Speaker 16: levee that is collected that's shared between the Kanaw County
• 37:08
Speaker 16: Emergency Ambulance Authority, the kanawh County Commission, and KRT, So
• 37:12
Speaker 16: that's a huge chunk of our funding. We receive a
• 37:15
Speaker 16: funding from FTA, so a federal funding also comes in there.
• 37:19
Speaker 16: About seven percent of our funding comes from actual ticket sales.
• 37:21
Speaker 16: So when the question came up to hey, can you
• 37:23
Speaker 16: just increase the prices of tickets and will that help
• 37:25
Speaker 16: you solve this problem. No, and again we're sensitive to
• 37:28
Speaker 16: our ridership and we don't want to increase the burden
• 37:31
Speaker 16: on them by raising this ticketing prices.
• 37:33
  Speaker 10: So it's a.
• 37:34
Speaker 16: Combination of the levee, the federal funding, any kind of
• 37:38
Speaker 16: ticketing we receive from our passengers, et cetera that kind
• 37:42
Speaker 16: of fill the gaps.
• 37:43
  Speaker 6: There.
• 37:43
Speaker 16: A little bit of state funding also that comes in,
• 37:45
Speaker 16: but primarily it's that safety levee. That's why we got
• 37:47
  Speaker 16: to focus.
• 37:47
Speaker 3: And anytime you make a decision like this, you know
• 37:50
Speaker 3: not everybody's going to be happy with it. Obviously, I
• 37:53
Speaker 3: have a text here and I'll let you address it.
• 37:55
Speaker 3: This is Dave regarding KRT. I'm not a current writer.
• 37:58
Speaker 3: I was considering starting to use it, but if it
• 38:00
Speaker 3: is unreliable, I probably will not. It's a basic public service.
• 38:04
Speaker 3: If we don't use as much water on Sunday, do
• 38:07
Speaker 3: you churn it off? I hope that Kart will reconsider
• 38:10
Speaker 3: the decision. How would you answer that?
• 38:11
  Speaker 6: Sure?
• 38:12
Speaker 16: I think a thing we need to look at too
• 38:13
Speaker 16: when it comes to, you know, saying it needs to
• 38:16
Speaker 16: be reliable. So we've had an issue since COVID. We've
• 38:20
Speaker 16: had a tough time hiring CDL drivers. We've had routes
• 38:23
Speaker 16: that you know, they're supposed to come at eight pm
• 38:24
Speaker 16: and they don't show up because we have to cancel
• 38:26
Speaker 16: them because we don't have a driver. There's no value
• 38:30
Speaker 16: in a reliable transit system and putting out a schedule
• 38:33
Speaker 16: that looks fantastic on paper if we can't actually accomplish
• 38:37
Speaker 16: those routes. People need to know that when a kart
• 38:40
Speaker 16: bus says it's going to show up, it's going to
• 38:41
Speaker 16: show up. So that issue, as far as staffing, has
• 38:44
Speaker 16: been tough for us, and again the funding. If we
• 38:46
Speaker 16: can't afford to actually run those routes, why put out
• 38:50
Speaker 16: a schedule that looks amazing if we can't fulfill it.
• 38:52
Speaker 16: I would rather us show up to one hundred percent
• 38:54
Speaker 16: of the routes that we have on our schedule, even
• 38:56
Speaker 16: if they are smaller than what it exists today, then
• 38:58
Speaker 16: show up for seventy percent of the routes. It's not
• 39:00
Speaker 16: fair to people who are standing out there in the
• 39:02
Speaker 16: morning hoping that the bus is going to come. If
• 39:04
Speaker 16: it doesn't, how do.
• 39:05
Speaker 3: You go about if as someone who has not used KRT,
• 39:09
Speaker 3: how do you go about if I'm going to catch
• 39:11
Speaker 3: the bus? At seven am every morning from fill in
• 39:14
Speaker 3: name here to come to my office downtown. How do
• 39:16
Speaker 3: the people know if the bus is not going to running?
• 39:18
Speaker 3: I mean, how do people know that?
• 39:20
  Speaker 6: Sure?
• 39:21
Speaker 16: So we've done a couple of things in the last
• 39:22
Speaker 16: couple of years that I'm proud of of of racing technology.
• 39:25
Speaker 16: We have what we call the Transit App, which is
• 39:26
Speaker 16: an app you download on your phone or you can
• 39:28
Speaker 16: call into our office and ask, but you can pick
• 39:31
Speaker 16: on It shows the entire system for KRT. It shows
• 39:33
Speaker 16: you the timetables. Hey, this is where you're and you
• 39:35
Speaker 16: can put in hey I want to get picked up here,
• 39:37
Speaker 16: I want to be dropped off there. It's going to
• 39:39
Speaker 16: tell you exactly when that route's going to come. It's
• 39:41
Speaker 16: also going to give you a notification, so it's going
• 39:42
Speaker 16: to ping you just like a text message and say, hey,
• 39:45
Speaker 16: the bus is running later, it's not running today. That's
• 39:47
Speaker 16: something we didn't have historically, but we now have that tool,
• 39:50
Speaker 16: which has been really helpful for our passengers to say, hey, okay,
• 39:53
Speaker 16: we're aware now that I'm not going to stand out
• 39:55
Speaker 16: here in the rain and wait for this bus to
• 39:56
Speaker 16: show up if it's not coming.
• 39:59
Speaker 3: Tech says service to the the airport is huge. Once
• 40:01
Speaker 3: they get that set up, they'll need to advertise that
• 40:03
Speaker 3: the travelers coming to the airport.
• 40:04
Speaker 16: Yeah, that's a big thing for us. So that's that
• 40:07
Speaker 16: third component of the on demand, the KRT plus system,
• 40:10
Speaker 16: which is what we call POI. So we're starting with
• 40:12
Speaker 16: the airport because we recognize that's a huge deal. So
• 40:15
Speaker 16: if it's twelve to fifteen dollars for an entire vehicle, submit,
• 40:18
Speaker 16: maybe there's a family of four and they're going to
• 40:19
Speaker 16: the airport for twelve dollars. You get up to the
• 40:21
Speaker 16: airport and then when you get home from your trip,
• 40:24
Speaker 16: you don't have to worry about you know, go and
• 40:25
Speaker 16: find your car in the parking lot, paying the parking
• 40:27
Speaker 16: you just you call a KRT and you get on
• 40:29
Speaker 16: your phone and get a KRT and we take you home.
• 40:31
Speaker 16: That's again, that's where our service is going to be
• 40:34
Speaker 16: opened up to people who historically they've paid the safety levee,
• 40:37
Speaker 16: but they've never used our service.
• 40:39
Speaker 3: Befoy, let you go. What is the final message Sean
• 40:43
Speaker 3: that you would like to leave listeners with or the
• 40:45
Speaker 3: writers of Kart Because this has been a long process.
• 40:48
Speaker 3: I've had you on a couple times talking about it.
• 40:49
Speaker 3: You've had three public meetings, plus you let people weigh
• 40:52
Speaker 3: in online. The meetings were all packed from what I understand,
• 40:55
Speaker 3: so the public is weighed in. This has been the
• 40:57
Speaker 3: final decision. And as a texture asked, did they hope
• 41:02
Speaker 3: that you would reconsider? I think this is pretty much
• 41:04
Speaker 3: this is the final decision. That's your final answer. I
• 41:05
Speaker 3: guess as they would say, what would be your your
• 41:09
Speaker 3: message that you'd like to leave listeners or writers of
• 41:11
Speaker 3: Kart with this morning?
• 41:12
Speaker 16: Sure, I think our message is we appreciate how the
• 41:16
Speaker 16: amount of feedback we've received, the patients, we've received from
• 41:18
Speaker 16: our passengers, want them to know that this is a
• 41:22
Speaker 16: It is a final answer, but it's also a liquid
• 41:24
Speaker 16: system that needs to be addressed. These changes need to
• 41:27
Speaker 16: be addressed more often. If every fifteen years we come
• 41:29
Speaker 16: to the table and say, hey, we're going to make
• 41:30
Speaker 16: these huge changes, that's really hard to embrace. But if
• 41:32
Speaker 16: every year, every six months, we say, hey, here's a
• 41:35
Speaker 16: minor change or minor tweak, that's on KRT. That's krt's responsibility.
• 41:39
Speaker 16: We should have done that before. But what I can
• 41:41
Speaker 16: say is we don't take lightly the decisions we've made.
• 41:43
Speaker 16: We recognize that it is having a major impact on
• 41:46
Speaker 16: people's lives, and we appreciate that they are parts of
• 41:48
Speaker 16: our community that use our service, and we're going to
• 41:50
Speaker 16: continue to try to make our service sustainable for years
• 41:52
Speaker 16: to come, and sometimes it takes tough decisions to do that.
• 41:56
Speaker 3: What's our timetable for these changes.
• 41:58
Speaker 16: Sure, so these changes won't go into effect until February
• 42:01
Speaker 16: of twenty twenty five, so that gives us plenty of
• 42:03
Speaker 16: time to create those schedules to make sure we push
• 42:05
Speaker 16: those out to the Publics of individuals have an idea
• 42:08
Speaker 16: and can figure out how their day is going to
• 42:10
Speaker 16: work with the new schedules from kr T.
• 42:12
Speaker 3: And where do they get that app? Could they just
• 42:14
Speaker 3: get that from their app store.
• 42:15
Speaker 16: Or online, or they can get it from the app store,
• 42:17
Speaker 16: from the Apple App Store, Google App Store, they can
• 42:20
Speaker 16: download it's the transit app, and then the kr T
• 42:22
Speaker 16: Plus app is what's going to help with the on
• 42:24
  Speaker 16: demand right shair.
• 42:25
Speaker 3: We had a text of the show here that said,
• 42:27
Speaker 3: Dave I frequently travel for work, and that sort of
• 42:29
Speaker 3: service from the airport in Chicago at o'haa is one
• 42:32
Speaker 3: hundred and twenty dollars YEP. Hopefully it won't be one
• 42:35
Speaker 3: hundred and twenty dollars in Charleston.
• 42:37
Speaker 16: No, I told you twelve we left, we left the
• 42:39
Speaker 16: zero out. But no, we recognize, Hey, we're subsidized by
• 42:42
Speaker 16: the safety Levey. Let's give that service.
• 42:44
Speaker 3: I think the texture we're saying in Chicago, this is
• 42:46
Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty dollars.
• 42:47
Speaker 16: Yeah, exactly, Hey, come get a deal. Little yeah, a
• 42:50
Speaker 16: little chiever, a little ch.
• 42:52
Speaker 3: Sean Hillick taking a director of krit I appreciate you
• 42:54
Speaker 3: being here again, as I said, anytime that you make changes,
• 42:57
Speaker 3: and we spend a lot of time on the show
• 42:58
Speaker 3: with school officials talking about consolidating schools. People don't like change, obviously,
• 43:03
Speaker 3: and there's always a lot of questions, a lot of
• 43:06
Speaker 3: you know, and it's completely understandable. And now I think
• 43:08
Speaker 3: you folks have done a good job of trying to
• 43:10
Speaker 3: roll this out. And again we're looking at these changes
• 43:11
Speaker 3: coming into February of the new year, and there's going
• 43:15
Speaker 3: to be some positive things come out of this as well. Sean,
• 43:17

Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
• 46:36
Speaker 11: Good morning, thanks Dave.
• 46:37
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here all week long. I think
• 46:39
Speaker 3: this is like your what tenth or eleventh day in
• 46:41
Speaker 3: a row of being on this show.
• 46:44
  Speaker 11: Sounds about right.
• 46:45
Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, if you want to host it anytime when
• 46:47
Speaker 3: I'm on vacation, I'll save the world from Dale Cooper
• 46:50
Speaker 3: and you can come host the show. How's that? I know,
• 46:55
Speaker 3: I have no doubt that you'd be there. All right,
• 46:56
Speaker 3: So this is it, Jill. The Birds have got to
• 46:59
Speaker 3: win three straight on the road to bring home what
• 47:01
Speaker 3: would be the first championship for a baseball team in
• 47:04
Speaker 3: Charleston since nineteen ninety.
• 47:06
Speaker 11: This is it, absolutely, I mean, he said tonight's games
• 47:10
Speaker 11: at six thirty in York. They need to win the
• 47:12
Speaker 11: next three games, and you know, backs against the wall.
• 47:16
Speaker 6: But a lot of the guys are excited.
• 47:18
Speaker 11: If you follow some of the guys personally on social media,
• 47:20
Speaker 11: they're all posting about backs against the wall. But we
• 47:22
Speaker 11: still got this. Dave Lebron is on the mound today
• 47:25
Speaker 11: and he has been lights out his last three starts,
• 47:28
Speaker 11: so we to steal for my my Boston Red Sox
• 47:32
Speaker 11: in two thousand and four. Don't let us win tonight
• 47:35
Speaker 11: because if we win tonight, you're in trouble.
• 47:38
Speaker 3: Is the team already in York?
• 47:41
Speaker 11: Yeah, they traveled there yesterday. The front office is going
• 47:44
Speaker 11: up right now. I'm somewhere in Clay County. I think
• 47:46
Speaker 11: calling in three of those.
• 47:48
Speaker 3: Okay, Well, I was gonna say about.
• 47:51
Speaker 11: Fifty people going up. So we got about fifty people
• 47:53
Speaker 11: fans and front office staff going up to the game.
• 47:55
Speaker 11: So we're gonna have a good representation today.
• 47:57
Speaker 3: Well that's great. Now, how's the weather looking up there?
• 47:59
Speaker 3: Because I know the entire East Coast is keeping an
• 48:01
Speaker 3: eye on the hurricane, on the hurricane in Florida and
• 48:04
Speaker 3: how it's going to impact us. Have you looked ahead?
• 48:06
  Speaker 3: I know, I know, I know you have. But what's
• 48:07
Speaker 3: the weather looking like in York tonight?
• 48:09
  Speaker 11: Yeah, it's looking a little wet. I have a rain
• 48:12
Speaker 11: jacket and a half packed. But here's the good news.
• 48:15
Speaker 7: This is what I think is good.
• 48:17
Speaker 11: If it's raining, the York fans probably aren't going to
• 48:20
Speaker 11: come to the ballpark, So we're going to have a
• 48:21
Speaker 11: very loud cheering section because unless you're a diehard fan,
• 48:24
Speaker 11: you're probably not going to be sitting in the rain.
• 48:26
Speaker 3: Well, and what uh what about their field? Can their
• 48:29
Speaker 3: field at at York? I mean, because it's not really
• 48:31
Speaker 3: unless unless we have lightning here at Gomark Ballpark, games
• 48:34
Speaker 3: don't get canceled here, you know, because we can withstand
• 48:37
Speaker 3: the rain. What's the field like in York?
• 48:38
  Speaker 4: Do you know?
• 48:40
  Speaker 11: I haven't been there. I know that they're talking about
• 48:43
Speaker 11: potentially changing the game time for Saturday because they're supposed
• 48:46
Speaker 11: to be a lot more rain than so they might
• 48:48
Speaker 11: be impacted tomorrow night.
• 48:50
Speaker 3: All right, So but they again they have to win tonight,
• 48:53
Speaker 3: Tomorrow night and Saturday. Give us the times for the
• 48:56
Speaker 3: games again, I know it's it's kind of asterisk and
• 48:58
Speaker 3: whether weather pending? What are the set game times for now?
• 49:03
  Speaker 13: Right?
• 49:03
Speaker 11: So tonight and tomorrow are set for six thirty. Sunday
• 49:06
Speaker 11: is two o'clock. Follow us on social media and we
• 49:10
Speaker 11: will update you if at the game times change. And again,
• 49:13
Speaker 11: you can watch everything on Flow Baseball. So if you
• 49:15
Speaker 11: don't want to come up to Pennsylvania, you don't want
• 49:17
Speaker 11: to drive in the ring, that's okay. You can stay
• 49:20
Speaker 11: dry and watch on Flow baseball.
• 49:22
Speaker 3: Well again, the backs against the wall. There are sports,
• 49:25
Speaker 3: as you mentioned your beloved Boston Red Sox, there are
• 49:28
Speaker 3: sports teams that live for that back against the wall mentality.
• 49:31
Speaker 3: Count us down, go ahead, and count us out, and
• 49:34
Speaker 3: we're going to rise to the occasion. And we certainly
• 49:36
Speaker 3: hope that that is the case here because then this
• 49:38
Speaker 3: has been a remarkable I mean, either way the series,
• 49:40
Speaker 3: either a championship or not, the series is going to
• 49:42
Speaker 3: come to an end or the season is going to
• 49:44
Speaker 3: come to an end this weekend in York, Pennsylvania. This
• 49:46
Speaker 3: has been a remarkable season for the Dirty Birds and
• 49:50
Speaker 3: a remarkable team. Talk about that, because this will be,
• 49:52
Speaker 3: as I said, one way or the other, this will
• 49:54
Speaker 3: probably be the last time until we start planning a
• 49:56
Speaker 3: parade or something like that if they win the championship.
• 49:59
Speaker 3: Talk about this season.
• 50:00
Speaker 11: Overall, Jill, Yeah, I mean, this team has dealt with
• 50:04
Speaker 11: so much adversity. Where we were a fantastic team at
• 50:07
Speaker 11: the beginning, almost never lost at home, and then we
• 50:11
Speaker 11: had eight players contracts be purchased by MLB teams, which
• 50:14
Speaker 11: is great, but it really we didn't have a next
• 50:18
Speaker 11: man up ready to take those eight spots. So PJ. Phillips,
• 50:22
Speaker 11: our manager and his coaching staff, did a great job
• 50:24
Speaker 11: of finding guys to replace those eight and to come
• 50:28
Speaker 11: back after frankly being in almost last place in the
• 50:32
Speaker 11: first half, to then win the second half and then
• 50:35
Speaker 11: beat Gastonia for the Southern Division Series and now be
• 50:39
Speaker 11: here in the Championship Series. I'm very proud of this team,
• 50:41
Speaker 11: and again not just on the field, but off the field.
• 50:44
Speaker 11: There's been a great group of guys to work with.
• 50:46
Speaker 3: And we're going to be talking a lot about the
• 50:48
Speaker 3: Dirty Birds even during the off season because, as you know,
• 50:51
Speaker 3: you're in addition to being the broadcast or you're also
• 50:53
Speaker 3: in the marketing aspect of it as well. There really
• 50:55
Speaker 3: is no off season.
• 50:57
Speaker 11: So they were setting up lights for late the night.
• 51:01
Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say in the Selangled
• 51:04
Speaker 3: all light the night. We'll be spending some time talking
• 51:06
Speaker 3: about that. Plus, the online store is available. People can
• 51:09
Speaker 3: go any time throughout the season get their Christmas gifts
• 51:12
Speaker 3: and whatever by buying Dirty Birds gear, and then that
• 51:15
Speaker 3: goes on no matter what.
• 51:16
Speaker 11: Right, great exactly. You can always get your merchandise online
• 51:22
Speaker 11: and if you don't want it to be shipped, you
• 51:23
Speaker 11: can come pick it up at the ballpark. We do
• 51:25
Speaker 11: have an office at the ballpark, and we do have
• 51:28
Speaker 11: championship gear, not championship gear playoffs the year that is available.
• 51:31
Speaker 11: So we will have championship gear available Monday when we win, right,
• 51:36
Speaker 11: but we have playoff gear that is available as well
• 51:38
Speaker 11: for kause, Christmas gifts and anything else you want.
• 51:40
Speaker 3: You said that, not me. Let's go. Let's go team,
• 51:45
Speaker 3: Let's go dirty Birds.
• 51:47
Speaker 11: Go dirty birds. Thinkstage all right.
