- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn French with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely, Lucas. I've been practicing our question words from last time, like où and quand. Lucas: Nice. Today, we're going to talk about time. You know, asking what time it is and answering. It's super useful. Luna: Oh, I need that. I always get confused when someone asks me the time in French. Lucas: Let's start with the basic question. Quelle heure est-il? Luna: Quelle heure est-il? Lucas: That means, what time is it? You can ask this to anyone, anywhere. Luna: Quelle heure est-il? I like how that rolls off the tongue. Lucas: Now, to answer, you say il est and then the hour. For one o'clock, it's il est une heure. Luna: Il est une heure. So, il est une heure means it's one o'clock. Lucas: Exactly. And for two o'clock, you say il est deux heures. But let's stick with the basics for now. Luna: So, if someone asks me quelle heure est-il, I can say il est une heure. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what about half past? For two thirty, we say il est deux heures et demie. Luna: Il est deux heures et demie. That's a bit of a mouthful, but I got it. It's two thirty, right? Lucas: Yes, et demie means and a half. So, deux heures et demie is two thirty. Luna: Okay, so I can say il est deux heures et demie when it's 2:30. Let me try: il est deux heures et demie. Lucas: You got it. Now, let's talk about noon and midnight. For noon, we say il est midi. Luna: Il est midi. So, at noon, I say il est midi. That's easy. Lucas: And for midnight, il est minuit. Luna: Il est minuit. Perfect for when I'm up too late. Lucas: You know, speaking of support, we keep this show going because of listeners like you. If Fexingo has helped you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to keep these episodes coming. And we appreciate every bit. Lucas: So, let's put it all together. Imagine you're at a café, and you want to know the time. You ask, quelle heure est-il? Luna: And the waiter says, il est midi. Time for lunch! Lucas: Or maybe it's late at night, and you ask, quelle heure est-il? Luna: And they say, il est minuit. Time to go home. Lucas: Let's review one more time. Quelle heure est-il? Luna: Il est une heure. Lucas: Il est deux heures et demie. Luna: Il est midi. Lucas: Il est minuit. Luna: I feel like I can actually ask the time now. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. Keep practicing these, and next time we'll build on them. See you then!
