1:53
Speaker 4: Today we have a we have a very very very
1:57
Speaker 4: kind of special guest here today. I actually I kind
2:03
Speaker 4: of got started with this young lady, Lisa Odie as
2:07
Speaker 4: we know her as the football Queen.
2:10
Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
2:11
Speaker 4: Lisa was is from Belle, West Virginia, and went to
2:15
Speaker 4: DuPont High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in education
2:19
Speaker 4: from West Virginia State University and her master's degree at
2:22
Speaker 4: Marshall go her. I want to get that in because
2:25
Speaker 4: I know you got a little WU in the background
2:28
Speaker 4: there too. She fell in love with football at a
2:32
Speaker 4: young age with her father taking her to a high
2:35
Speaker 4: school game, and at that point I think football just
2:38
Speaker 4: kind of took her over. She also was a cheerleader.
2:43
Speaker 2: She she was.
2:45
Speaker 4: Part of and probably the biggest part of the RSN
2:48
Speaker 4: media part of it, because she she's the fact checker,
2:52
Speaker 4: fact and the detailed kind of person.
2:55
Speaker 2: That's who she is.
2:57
Speaker 4: And she also is the reading specialist Kenall County Schools
3:01
Speaker 4: as their full time job. All right, I'm gonna I'm
3:05
Speaker 4: gonna start this somewhere off the off the chart a
3:08
Speaker 4: little bit, just because I want to make sure I
3:12
Speaker 4: make this point before we get into the discussion that
3:15
Speaker 4: we're gonna go our ce team. Youth football had won
3:21
Speaker 4: two games back to back and then fortunately and not
3:27
Speaker 4: trying to say anything on the negative side of just Charleston,
3:30
Speaker 4: but basically just focusing on South Charleston Used Football C team.
3:36
Speaker 4: They were down, oh, twenty four to nothing Hollis in
3:39
Speaker 4: the in the very early part of the game. You
3:42
Speaker 4: you've been around youth football, that's usually you know, that's
3:46
Speaker 4: usually it. They ended up winning like thirty six to thirty. Wow,
3:51
Speaker 4: and they came back, and I want to give I
3:53
Speaker 4: want to give that group of kids and coaches and parents,
3:58
Speaker 4: you know, some some props simply because if you could
4:03
Speaker 4: see the joy in them at the end of that game,
4:06
Speaker 4: I mean it was it was like you could see
4:08
Speaker 4: parents like just shocked because we had beat charleson the
4:11
Speaker 4: week before and we were like thinking their best player
4:13
Speaker 4: wasn't there, he's coming back. Maybe we're not gonna have
4:17
Speaker 4: a chance because they had beat us once before. And
4:20
Speaker 4: we we literally get out there and come and are
4:25
Speaker 4: down twenty four to nothing and then end up winning
4:29
Speaker 4: that game. I thought that was probably the greatest game
4:35
Speaker 4: in youth football that I may have ever seen in
4:37
Speaker 4: my life. It had to be, and I hope, I
4:40
Speaker 4: hope those parents and those kids will have a chance
4:45
Speaker 4: to remember that. And you know, sometimes you can be
4:48
Speaker 4: too young that you might forget and maybe not even
4:51
Speaker 4: know the importance of what you did. You know, And
4:54
Speaker 4: because I really don't know if they know what they
4:57
Speaker 4: did and against they legitimately good team that was probably
5:02
Speaker 4: expected to go pretty far into playoffs. And I think
5:07
Speaker 4: and where I'm gonna where I wanted to open up
5:09
Speaker 4: with that because I think there's something that speaks to
5:12
Speaker 4: like teamwork. Okay, it does, and when you have you know,
5:17
Speaker 4: when you have teamwork, when you have all the players playing,
5:20
Speaker 4: and if you're seeing some of these little kids were
5:22
Speaker 4: we were at the size, we were so undermanned, Like
5:26
Speaker 4: I think we had a practice yesterday. I think we
5:29
Speaker 4: had ten kids, so we might have fifteen, and they
5:33
Speaker 4: probably had five kids that two of our kids couldn't
5:38
Speaker 4: match them, right, you know, But they didn't pay any
5:41
Speaker 4: attention to it.
5:43
Speaker 2: They just went out and played and like I said,
5:46
Speaker 2: I'm just.
5:46
Speaker 4: Super super proud of them, And then it brings me
5:51
Speaker 4: to this thing.
5:53
Speaker 2: Where is teamwork? Now?
5:55
Speaker 4: Like, where is teamwork? Where do you get that kind
5:59
Speaker 4: of feeling from? Because if the three of us is
6:04
Speaker 4: on one team and we're buddies and we're close, we're
6:10
Speaker 4: we're locked in.
6:11
Speaker 2: In my era, we're locked in.
6:13
Speaker 4: I you know, you have a bad game, I'm like,
6:16
Speaker 4: you know, hey, man, you're okay, don't worry about it.
6:18
Speaker 2: At least have a bad day. Come on, we're good,
6:20
Speaker 2: let's go, let's go. Where is that?
6:24
Speaker 4: Because I think, I think I don't have to care
6:29
Speaker 4: about you. I don't have to care about Lisa. All
6:32
Speaker 4: I need to do is try to figure out what
6:33
Speaker 4: is best for me on the team. I don't it
6:39
Speaker 4: made when I when I see this young team celebrating
6:42
Speaker 4: and the coaches and the parents and they're all hugging
6:44
Speaker 4: and half of them want to want to cry. Like
6:48
Speaker 4: I can see the team in that, I can see
6:51
Speaker 4: the community in that.
6:53
Speaker 6: But but do you think that in situations where you
6:57
Speaker 6: know kids are transferring from school to school, do you
6:59
Speaker 6: think think that foster is a lack of teamwork?
7:03
Speaker 2: Do you think that you think those two things are equivalent.
7:06
Speaker 4: I know what, let me ask it this way, if
7:10
Speaker 4: you were on that, if you were on that youth
7:13
Speaker 4: football team, or I'll do better than that our other team, okay,
7:18
Speaker 4: who were lost. The week before, we had people saying
7:22
Speaker 4: they weren't you know, they weren't gonna play because they
7:24
Speaker 4: knew we were gonna lose. So where is the team
7:29
Speaker 4: in that? You know what I'm saying, like, this ain't
7:31
Speaker 4: about you know that we're gonna lose. This is about
7:34
Speaker 4: you being part of the team and you come into
7:37
Speaker 4: practice and you're practicing, and you get ready and you
7:40
Speaker 4: give it all, your all that you got in the game.
7:43
Speaker 4: I'm my concern is we don't know what teamwork is.
7:49
Speaker 4: I don't think that parents come in and parent and
7:53
Speaker 4: and we can't expect the kids to know, not at
7:56
Speaker 4: this age, but I think that the parents shouldn't know.
8:00
Speaker 2: What team is.
8:01
Speaker 6: Well, I'm just saying, like far as high school when
8:03
Speaker 6: we move up, Okay, of course, I mean I don't
8:06
Speaker 6: mean like the little kids. I'm saying like when we
8:07
Speaker 6: move to high school of college, different things of that nature.
8:10
Speaker 6: And we've seen sort of the movement of players and
8:14
Speaker 6: players aren't locked down to their community school and they're
8:16
Speaker 6: going to this a situation that best fits them. Is
8:20
Speaker 6: that does that foster a devoid of teamwork? Or can
8:24
Speaker 6: you still practice teamwork even though you may be going
8:27
Speaker 6: from this team to that team.
8:28
Speaker 2: I don't think so, But at least I know you're
8:30
Speaker 2: dying to jump in jump in.
8:32
Speaker 7: Well, no, I just wanted to say, I think I
8:33
Speaker 7: think the key word in what you're talking about with
8:35
Speaker 7: your little ones is youth. I think those those younger students,
8:38
Speaker 7: those younger kids, they haven't learned about individuality yet. They're
8:43
Speaker 7: out there learning the game. They're out there with their friends.
8:47
Speaker 7: They're out there, you know, trying to help each other.
8:49
Speaker 7: And I think as the older they get and the
8:51
Speaker 7: more they realize, Okay, you know, little Johnny over here,
8:54
Speaker 7: he can really run fast.
8:55
Speaker 5: He's good.
8:56
Speaker 7: He's a good running back, or Tommy's a better quarterback.
8:59
Speaker 7: And when they start, you know, defining their roles, I
9:02
Speaker 7: think the teamwork, especially what you're saying about transfers, Hollis,
9:06
Speaker 7: I think what happens is when they find their niche
9:09
Speaker 7: in the actual sport, because I mean, let's face it,
9:11
Speaker 7: in the in the youth leagues, they probably aren't a
9:13
Speaker 7: sign a specific position, and so to speak, they may
9:16
Speaker 7: play more than one position.
9:17
Speaker 5: Correct.
9:18
Speaker 7: Okay, so they're still figuring out what they're good at
9:20
Speaker 7: and what they're not good at. And Plus, like I said,
9:23
Speaker 7: they're young, and so they have that enthusiasm, that joy
9:26
Speaker 7: that when you get older it becomes more. I don't
9:29
Speaker 7: want to say they lose the joy, they lose the
9:31
Speaker 7: happiness in playing the actual game, but I think the
9:33
Speaker 7: pressure starts to build.
9:35
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So Hollis, me and you play youth
9:39
Speaker 4: football together. Yeah, we go to middle school. We play
9:43
Speaker 4: middle school football together. Then we go to high school.
9:48
Speaker 4: We both are freshman's play we play. We play our
9:51
Speaker 4: freshman year together, we sit on the bench. Then o
9:56
Speaker 4: our next season that we go in. We I do
10:01
Speaker 4: pretty good. You know, I didn't want to give him
10:03
Speaker 4: the credit and say he was. I didn't want to
10:06
Speaker 4: give him that. So I do pretty good and I
10:11
Speaker 4: leave or the following year I leave for another team.
10:15
Speaker 2: Like I don't know, see for me, I don't know
10:19
Speaker 2: how to do that.
10:20
Speaker 4: Like I don't know how to say, like, Okay, I'm
10:24
Speaker 4: just gonna I'm gonna leave my buddies. We lived two
10:27
Speaker 4: doors down from each other. But you know we go
10:29
Speaker 4: not necessarily the question.
10:30
Speaker 6: The question is can you be a good teammate for
10:32
Speaker 6: the new school, for the new team, And I don't
10:35
Speaker 6: And I think you still can be a good teammate.
10:37
Speaker 6: And I don't think you leaving necessarily makes you a
10:39
Speaker 6: bad teammate. So I don't think the movement and all
10:43
Speaker 6: those things can be locked. Now again, the relationships are
10:47
Speaker 6: gonna be different because, like you said that we're coming
10:49
Speaker 6: all the way from little league to high school. We've
10:51
Speaker 6: known each other different things of that nature. So you're
10:53
Speaker 6: gonna have to go make new friends, make new relationships.
10:55
Speaker 6: But I don't think that automatically, that movement doesn't auto
10:59
Speaker 6: even movement money, whatever, it doesn't automatically make you a
11:03
Speaker 6: bad teammate.
11:05
Speaker 7: Lisa Well, I understand what Hollis is saying and what
11:10
Speaker 7: you're saying about. You know, growing up together, playing ball together,
11:13
Speaker 7: You've you've formed a relationship with football, your friends.
11:16
Speaker 5: I think now with with teamwork and teammates, I think
11:21
Speaker 5: old school us.
11:22
Speaker 7: You know, when we were coming through the system, you know,
11:24
Speaker 7: there wasn't social media. You know, you didn't have a
11:27
Speaker 7: way to connect with you know, your your school friends,
11:30
Speaker 7: other than if you met at the movies or a
11:31
Speaker 7: sporting event or actual football, basketball, if you played a sport.
11:35
Speaker 7: These kids all know each other through travel ball, through
11:38
Speaker 7: social media, and so the teamwork piece of it, I
11:42
Speaker 7: think is more easily fixed, so to speak, when they
11:47
Speaker 7: moved from one school to another, because basically they already
11:49
Speaker 7: know each other.
11:50
Speaker 6: A lot of them do, and they might have played
11:52
Speaker 6: with each other, like you just said, somewhere travel and
11:56
Speaker 6: I could.
11:56
Speaker 4: I definitely see that because I see travel ball coming
11:59
Speaker 4: through working at the rec center. You see travel ball
12:03
Speaker 4: coming through practicing, whether it be basketball or whatever, and
12:06
Speaker 4: you and you see.
12:07
Speaker 6: That, and I think they're more adept at, you know,
12:11
Speaker 6: having a variety of teammates coming in and out because again,
12:15
Speaker 6: like understanding the rules of transferring. But beyond that, if
12:18
Speaker 6: we're looking at travel ball, they're playing on one team,
12:21
Speaker 6: playing on that team, playing on that team age. So
12:23
Speaker 6: these kids might be playing on three and four different
12:25
Speaker 6: teams throughout their youth, so they're used to having a
12:27
Speaker 6: variety of teammates. Where we came up and generally, even
12:30
Speaker 6: if we played like a travel sports like AU basketball,
12:33
Speaker 6: generally we're staying with the same core group of guys.
12:37
Speaker 6: But now it's all fluid now again. I think what
12:40
Speaker 6: that does is that messes up cohesion. I think that
12:44
Speaker 6: you know, you start to maybe not your ability to
12:49
Speaker 6: stick it out when things aren't going tough.
12:52
Speaker 2: That's that's effecting it, you know what I'm saying.
12:54
Speaker 6: Because now it's all now you have a real option,
12:57
Speaker 6: it's not just you talking mint to stay with this team.
13:00
Speaker 2: I was like, I can really just go over here
13:02
Speaker 2: and go to school.
13:02
Speaker 4: Okay, And and and to that point, we we we've
13:07
Speaker 4: gotten some of that this ship. Just say, at the
13:09
Speaker 4: youth level, we've gotten some of that. Some folks that
13:11
Speaker 4: you know who've said, oh, we're not winning, our kids
13:15
Speaker 4: not playing here next year, they're gonna go such and
13:17
Speaker 4: such and such and such. Now for for me, okay
13:24
Speaker 4: for me. And I'm trying to trace back to my
13:28
Speaker 4: to each one of the levels in which I played youth,
13:31
Speaker 4: youth sports, old junior high sports, and high school sports.
13:36
Speaker 4: Right one, I can't even I can't even I can't
13:40
Speaker 4: even wrap my head around leaving because most of the
13:44
Speaker 4: guys that I was playing with, we all grew up
13:47
Speaker 4: on the same street, right in the same neighborhood. And
13:50
Speaker 4: and I and again I don't know you, you know,
13:53
Speaker 4: at South Hills because you know, I'm never because there
13:57
Speaker 4: wasn't different It might as well have been a different seity.
14:00
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, you might as well whole other country as
14:02
Speaker 4: far as that goes. You know, I might have seen
14:04
Speaker 4: you on the field, but that but I didn't like
14:06
Speaker 4: you on the field because you were on the other team.
14:10
Speaker 4: So I think back in as we say, back in
14:13
Speaker 4: the day, old school, we didn't have that that opportunity
14:19
Speaker 4: to to broaden your horizon on different people.
14:23
Speaker 2: You were.
14:24
Speaker 4: You were located locked in to an area of specific players.
14:30
Speaker 2: But I also think I.
14:34
Speaker 6: Think it's it's almost unfair for you to put yourself
14:38
Speaker 6: in that mindset because I think to you, winning and
14:42
Speaker 6: losing necessity, it wasn't the primary goal for you. It
14:46
Speaker 6: was always I'm trying to get to the league. I'm
14:49
Speaker 6: so sad, so winning in winning and losing wasn't your
14:53
Speaker 6: primary thing. So I don't think I think it's hard
14:55
Speaker 6: for you to understand that because your goals weren't that
14:58
Speaker 6: were this kid who's just go to play high school football,
15:01
Speaker 6: I might play junior college, might play small ball, small
15:04
Speaker 6: college football. There in him and his parents' goal is
15:07
Speaker 6: to win now because they know they're only doing this
15:10
Speaker 6: for a short time. So I think for you to
15:12
Speaker 6: jump you so, I think you have a hard time
15:14
Speaker 6: understanding understanding why a kid would leave his friends or
15:18
Speaker 6: or go to with this coach, or go to this
15:20
Speaker 6: school because the goal for them is to win now
15:22
Speaker 6: because they only have a fine amount of time to
15:24
Speaker 6: do this.
15:25
Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, So Lisa, my question is in in my
15:30
Speaker 4: flaw because I'll accept that. Accept that, and I think
15:34
Speaker 4: you've said that to me before. So Okay, you're out
15:40
Speaker 4: there on your own. You know, basically, you're you. You're
15:44
Speaker 4: you're the as the athlete or you as your as
15:46
Speaker 4: a and your child. You make you're making this decision
15:51
Speaker 4: based on what then, like you know, is the parent
15:55
Speaker 4: locked into picking a school that because this because we're
16:00
Speaker 4: losing here, we're losing at the at the original school,
16:04
Speaker 4: so we want to get you want to get your
16:06
Speaker 4: kid in a better situation. Is is winning a better situation?
16:13
Speaker 7: I think in the minds of families and parents, they
16:16
Speaker 7: feel like and even though it's kind of an oxymoron
16:19
Speaker 7: because we're we're sitting here talking about old school and
16:21
Speaker 7: compared you know, to now, well to now, when you
16:25
Speaker 7: you've got so much access to media, you know that
16:27
Speaker 7: there's just so many different ways to see a player perform.
16:31
Speaker 5: So you know, even if you're on a team that's losing.
16:34
Speaker 7: You're still you're if your if your child is able
16:37
Speaker 7: to you know, succeed in playing whatever sport it is,
16:41
Speaker 7: they're going to get the coverage. And so you know,
16:43
Speaker 7: it's it's not like it was years ago.
16:47
Speaker 5: Whenever.
16:48
Speaker 7: You know, if you were you were at a school
16:51
Speaker 7: that was you know, losing or just not you know, performing,
16:55
Speaker 7: or they weren't in the limelight, then they you know,
16:58
Speaker 7: they didn't get the coverage that those schools that were
17:01
Speaker 7: winning did because back then you just had newspaper and
17:03
Speaker 7: basically TV that was it.
17:05
Speaker 5: That was your coverage.
17:06
Speaker 7: And so now I think but I think some of
17:08
Speaker 7: those parents came from that age still, you know that
17:11
Speaker 7: they were coming through the technology age, and I think
17:14
Speaker 7: their mindset still is, hey, if I want junior to
17:17
Speaker 7: be able to play at WU or Marshall or even
17:19
Speaker 7: bigger aspirations, then they've got to be on that team
17:22
Speaker 7: that they can first of all start and first of all,
17:25
Speaker 7: you know, be successful and win.
17:27
Speaker 5: And if they're on a team.
17:28
Speaker 7: Also, another thing that they may may be looking at
17:30
Speaker 7: is if they're if they're if their child is on
17:33
Speaker 7: a team that is weak and they're playing let's say offense.
17:38
Speaker 7: You know they're they're a good offensive player, they could
17:39
Speaker 7: get hurt because you don't have the players to protect
17:42
Speaker 7: that's that player. So I think there's just so many
17:46
Speaker 7: facets into what families are looking at when they're entering
17:49
Speaker 7: the transfer portal, so to speak. I think they're also
17:52
Speaker 7: looking at the quality of education.
17:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do.
17:57
Speaker 5: I do think that to a degree. I do to
18:00
Speaker 5: a degree.
18:02
Speaker 4: I think in the beginning, when they were hesitant to
18:06
Speaker 4: just transfer because they want to be on a better team,
18:10
Speaker 4: I think that they may have looked at the school
18:12
Speaker 4: and and try to figure out.
18:14
Speaker 2: I think, now all.
18:15
Speaker 4: That matters is what that team that I'm gonna send
18:17
Speaker 4: my can to. That to my kid that I'm gonna
18:20
Speaker 4: send my kid to. That's I think that's all that
18:22
Speaker 4: matters is my kid. Is my kid gonna play at
18:26
Speaker 4: if if I come to Hollis to school he's the coach,
18:29
Speaker 4: is my kid gonna play? I think that's really all
18:31
Speaker 4: that matters. And if he's not gonna play. Okay, are
18:36
Speaker 4: you gonna win.
18:38
Speaker 2: Now?
18:39
Speaker 4: And and and and and I'll say this, and Hollis
18:42
Speaker 4: hold me to this. We gotta get a scout. We
18:45
Speaker 4: need a scout on the show. We need a scout
18:47
Speaker 4: on the show to actually make it very clear to
18:52
Speaker 4: parents what they're looking for, because I mean, you got
19:00
Speaker 4: to fit the metrics. I mean, you know, you gotta
19:02
Speaker 4: be the height, weight and all that kind of stuff,
19:04
Speaker 4: the forty times the bench like you. You've got to
19:07
Speaker 4: get all of those things, and it doesn't really matter.
19:12
Speaker 4: But I think even to that degree, for a kid
19:15
Speaker 4: who doesn't fit the metrics, to a listen's point, if
19:18
Speaker 4: I can get on this good team, if I can
19:20
Speaker 4: start and my kid who may be a little bit
19:23
Speaker 4: undersized here and there, can show and prove and they
19:26
Speaker 4: can you know, be successful, then that might propel them,
19:30
Speaker 4: where as opposed if they're on a bad team and
19:33
Speaker 4: they're not fitting the metrics and they're not having the success,
19:36
Speaker 4: the status, everything like that. So I just think it's
19:38
Speaker 4: a lot of factors that go into play when parents
19:42
Speaker 4: are trying to assess moving kids from school to school.
19:45
Speaker 4: I don't think it's I think it has a lot
19:48
Speaker 4: to do with winning. But I think they're looking at
19:50
Speaker 4: a lot of different things. If I transfer twice, am
19:57
Speaker 4: I wrong? Am I selfish? If I being selfish? Or
19:59
Speaker 4: am I just inside of the system? I can Am
20:03
Speaker 4: I just staying inside of the system? If I transfer twice?
20:07
Speaker 4: So I leave South Charleston, I go to South Hills,
20:11
Speaker 4: I leave South Hills, I go.
20:15
Speaker 2: Capital Am I what am I? What am I doing?
20:21
Speaker 5: That's my question? What are you doing?
20:24
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I mean, does that?
20:26
Speaker 5: Is that a scenario that happens a lot?
20:28
Speaker 2: Though?
20:28
Speaker 5: I mean, do we see that.
20:30
Speaker 4: We've seen that a couple of I think there's a
20:33
Speaker 4: couple couple of kids that have generally they'll start at
20:36
Speaker 4: one school, then maybe go to another school in the
20:39
Speaker 4: state and may be going somewhere out of state and
20:41
Speaker 4: come back.
20:42
Speaker 2: So we have seen yids go to three and four
20:44
Speaker 2: different high schools.
20:45
Speaker 4: I don't I don't I think there should be like
20:50
Speaker 4: a cap on that.
20:51
Speaker 7: I mean, like you should only be able to transfer once.
20:54
Speaker 7: I mean, that's it.
20:57
Speaker 4: But wouldn't it wouldn't it? Wouldn't it be great? Though,
20:58
Speaker 4: if we could get somebody to come one that would
21:01
Speaker 4: actually who's who is legitimately part of this process and
21:05
Speaker 4: actually make it make sense to us.
21:07
Speaker 6: Well, let me ask you this while we're going down
21:09
Speaker 6: the line. As far as the w V, S, S, A, C.
21:12
Speaker 6: What is I'll ask you, Lisa, what's what should be
21:15
Speaker 6: their role in when we talk about transfer, when we
21:18
Speaker 6: talk about the classifications that just seems like a total debacle,
21:23
Speaker 6: like far as high school football?
21:25
Speaker 2: What is there?
21:25
Speaker 4: What?
21:25
Speaker 2: What? What? What should their role?
21:27
Speaker 7: Well, we the role should be to regulate these things
21:31
Speaker 7: a little better than they are. The other thing is,
21:34
Speaker 7: I think we talked about this on one of the
21:35
Speaker 7: RSN shows when we asked about when they sit down
21:39
Speaker 7: the board of directors or whoever they are, who are
21:42
Speaker 7: those people and and and when they told us there
21:45
Speaker 7: were no it was mainly athletic directors, right, There were
21:49
Speaker 7: no administrators. There are no coaches, head coaches. And to
21:53
Speaker 7: me that that that's just totally it blew my mind
21:56
Speaker 7: because those are the people affects the most. In my opinion,
21:59
Speaker 7: you should have it at least half of that board.
22:02
Speaker 7: And I think, I hope I'm right. I think that's
22:03
Speaker 7: what we talked about.
22:04
Speaker 2: Carl My I think so too. That's the way I.
22:06
Speaker 7: Understood it because we had a guest on the show
22:08
Speaker 7: that he was actually a representative and he said that
22:12
Speaker 7: when we asked him that question, he said, mainly the
22:14
Speaker 7: admin and the ads And I'm like, no head coaches.
22:19
Speaker 7: So to me, one way to I don't know if
22:22
Speaker 7: you can fix it, but maybe to look at it
22:24
Speaker 7: and make it better or make it improve it all
22:27
Speaker 7: these things they are doing to the classifications and to
22:30
Speaker 7: the transfer portal is to get some people that are
22:32
Speaker 7: living it well.
22:34
Speaker 4: And let me ask this, Hollis to you, at least
22:37
Speaker 4: you can answer after him. If they were to go
22:42
Speaker 4: back and say, Okay, we're gonna we're gonna stop this,
22:47
Speaker 4: would head coaches?
22:49
Speaker 2: Would there be a head coach that you.
22:51
Speaker 4: Would think and not trying to name a coach or anything,
22:53
Speaker 4: but do you see a head coach that would complain about.
22:57
Speaker 6: Yeah, sure, I mean those coaches who have benefited from it.
23:00
Speaker 6: But to Lisa's point, I mean, I think the role
23:03
Speaker 6: the wv SSAC and I asked that almost is a
23:05
Speaker 6: rhetorical question. Your role has to be to look at
23:09
Speaker 6: what's going on and say, it's just for the benefit
23:12
Speaker 6: of our athletic competition. Is just for the benefit of
23:15
Speaker 6: the kids, and I just I can't think of a
23:18
Speaker 6: scenario that it is now. Again, far as transferring, I
23:21
Speaker 6: think you should be a lot of a transferred time,
23:23
Speaker 6: and I think they've sort of boxed in those rules.
23:27
Speaker 6: But then you go from one thing from the frying
23:29
Speaker 6: pans to the fire, and then you talk about these classifications,
23:32
Speaker 6: which is a total debacle. So it seems like year
23:33
Speaker 6: after year you're not getting the right maybe because you're
23:36
Speaker 6: not really to Lisa's point, you don't have head coaches,
23:39
Speaker 6: you don't have formal players, you don't have people who
23:41
Speaker 6: really understand the impact that these decisions will have. Because
23:45
Speaker 6: we mentioned earlier you're gonna have sixteen four A schools
23:49
Speaker 6: and all sixteen are gonna make the playoffs, and you're
23:52
Speaker 6: gonna have one school that's two and seven, two and eight,
23:55
Speaker 6: three and seven. They don't need to be there. So
23:58
Speaker 6: I think it's just I don't I'm not calling out leadership.
24:02
Speaker 6: I'm not saying any of that, but I think they
24:03
Speaker 6: really have to go to the drawing board and assess
24:06
Speaker 6: these decisions and look long term, and I think players
24:09
Speaker 6: coaches would be the ones to do that.
24:12
Speaker 4: I think when I think about this, the other on
24:16
Speaker 4: the on the classification of going to four A one.
24:20
Speaker 4: I don't know if we're for a if we actually
24:22
Speaker 4: have a legitimate for a school.
24:24
Speaker 6: Okay, you literally we literally have the population of of
24:29
Speaker 6: a medium sized the big city. It's one point six
24:32
Speaker 6: one point seven people in West the state of West Gin,
24:34
Speaker 6: a city like Houston, like just within Houston, maybe a
24:38
Speaker 6: few blocks in Houston.
24:39
Speaker 4: Well, even if you were gonna do that, why did
24:42
Speaker 4: you like wait until like legitimately, like right at the
24:47
Speaker 4: almost the very beginning of football.
24:52
Speaker 2: So one day you're a triple A.
24:55
Speaker 4: Next day, all of a sudden there's a quada available
24:57
Speaker 4: and you and you either got bumped up to it
24:59
Speaker 4: or and then had to turn around and bump yourself
25:02
Speaker 4: back down to it.
25:03
Speaker 2: Pills. Yeah, like.
25:06
Speaker 4: To me obviously, or if I'm wrong, tell me. I
25:12
Speaker 4: don't even know if the coaches and the teams were
25:13
Speaker 4: prepared for that, Like I don't know.
25:17
Speaker 6: Again, particularly like I said, I think they knew what
25:20
Speaker 6: the classification was going in. But then when you had
25:23
Speaker 6: the administrators doing the appeals in the lawsuits, basically of
25:26
Speaker 6: those decisions because of how they were made again it
25:29
Speaker 6: was made. It's a whole formula that didn't really some
25:32
Speaker 6: parts of it didn't make sense. It wasn't strictly based
25:34
Speaker 6: on enrollment like it has been in the past. They
25:37
Speaker 6: added other factors which were arguable. So again it was
25:41
Speaker 6: a situation in which you just arbitrarily made a formula
25:46
Speaker 6: that didn't necessarily make sense to anybody outside of you
25:52
Speaker 6: of your group. It's like it almost wasn't tested. It
25:54
Speaker 6: wasn't really and I hate to say, it wasn't really.
25:57
Speaker 2: Thought through well.
25:59
Speaker 4: And that's that's clear because when you look at it,
26:03
Speaker 4: how many of those teams that were going to be
26:05
Speaker 4: in Quad A half they they got they backed out
26:09
Speaker 4: of it. You know, they were like, no, we're going
26:12
Speaker 4: we're going to We're going to go to back down
26:16
Speaker 4: to Triple A and Triple A. Guys who double AD
26:19
Speaker 4: went up the Triple A. They're like, we're going back
26:21
Speaker 4: down to double A. So they had no kind of
26:25
Speaker 4: an alert, no kind of like no, well, like, how
26:30
Speaker 4: do you throw that at sports? Like like, I mean,
26:34
Speaker 4: and I'm not asking you really as a legitimate answer, but.
26:38
Speaker 7: Come on, I think I think part of the problem,
26:41
Speaker 7: Carl was whenever they did it in basketball. Of course,
26:44
Speaker 7: before they they did it in football and when you
26:46
Speaker 7: look at basketball, that's a completely different scenario.
26:49
Speaker 5: It's a different sport.
26:50
Speaker 7: It's it's you know, the number of athletes you have
26:52
Speaker 7: on the team, the number that's required to play, you know,
26:56
Speaker 7: and at the basketball level, maybe it's working. You know,
26:59
Speaker 7: I need to pay better attention when the tournament rolls
27:01
Speaker 7: around to see that. But what happened in the fall,
27:04
Speaker 7: like you said, throwing that on those teams right at
27:06
Speaker 7: the last minute, and then the appeals just really put
27:09
Speaker 7: you know, it just threw everybody for a loop. People's
27:11
Speaker 7: schedules got you know, misconstrued, they got messed up.
27:15
Speaker 5: All of it was just a debacle out.
27:18
Speaker 6: Now you have a lot of those, for example, a
27:20
Speaker 6: lot of those and again I'll say basketball. And with basketball,
27:22
Speaker 6: you have more teams, right, you have more schools that
27:25
Speaker 6: play basketball. Some schools don't have football, right, But a
27:27
Speaker 6: lot of those, like Triple A schools, now they still
27:30
Speaker 6: had to carry those four A schedules, right, So a
27:33
Speaker 6: lot of those Triple A schools that you probably can
27:35
Speaker 6: maybe be sitting at right now at four and two
27:38
Speaker 6: or three and three, right, you may be zero to
27:40
Speaker 6: six because you had a gauntlet of four A schools
27:43
Speaker 6: that you didn't have to play, so it threw everything off.
27:47
Speaker 6: So you may be looking at a potential playoff team
27:49
Speaker 6: in a four A or double A excuse me, a
27:52
Speaker 6: three A or double A school that had to play
27:54
Speaker 6: up because the schedules were already set and they couldn't
27:56
Speaker 6: change the schedule.
27:57
Speaker 2: So it just Falster's idea.
27:58
Speaker 6: And let you know, like this was and thought through
28:00
Speaker 6: because offering every single appeal one right and it just
28:05
Speaker 6: makes it. But and because I know we talked about
28:07
Speaker 6: earlier and when you look at the scores, the scores
28:09
Speaker 6: sort of reflect that when you look at how non
28:11
Speaker 6: competitive some of these games are, and you know.
28:15
Speaker 4: And I and I we we've talked about the scores
28:19
Speaker 4: prior to we were we were going to run down
28:22
Speaker 4: a list of just making you understand how how lopsided
28:30
Speaker 4: the scores have been this season. And it's just out
28:33
Speaker 4: of out of it's just out of control. Ladies and gentlemen.
28:36
Speaker 4: We're gonna take a quick break and we will be

29:36
Speaker 3: Now back to the conversation.
29:40
Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carl Lee and
29:42
Speaker 4: we're back. And uh, a little bit of a conversation
29:48
Speaker 4: going on prior to the break about just the reality
29:53
Speaker 4: of I don't even want to call it transferre just
29:57
Speaker 4: the idea of high school sports and where it where
30:00
Speaker 4: it is and where it's gonna go, you know, and
30:03
Speaker 4: just so many different lopsided.
30:06
Speaker 2: Scores and things like that.
30:09
Speaker 4: But I think we're gonna, we're gonna, We're gonna jump
30:11
Speaker 4: off of that for just a second. I think Hollis
30:13
Speaker 4: has I think he has a topic that he wants
30:16
Speaker 4: to throw at me. So so we seen last night
30:19
Speaker 4: that Lebron James and his son Bronni actually took the
30:22
Speaker 4: floor together, right, So he's actually playing with his son.
30:26
Speaker 4: I think Lebron is in you know, he's a champion
30:28
Speaker 4: and all that. You think he's in his twenty twenty
30:30
Speaker 4: first year something like that. I think it's twenty twenty
30:33
Speaker 4: something like that. He actually played a NBA game with
30:36
Speaker 4: his son. They played together.
30:38
Speaker 2: Wow. Does this make Lebron the greatest of all time? Oh?
30:44
Speaker 7: Boy?
30:44
Speaker 6: Because he was able to do that, does that make
30:47
Speaker 6: him the greatest? And if he stays another year or two,
30:52
Speaker 6: he'll probably play with the youngest one too, or against him.
30:57
Speaker 2: I don't want to say yet. I really don't want
31:01
Speaker 2: to say. Yes.
31:02
Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna lean on the side of no.
31:05
Speaker 4: But what I will give him is I don't know
31:09
Speaker 4: anyone who could sustain that physicality at that level for
31:16
Speaker 4: that long.
31:18
Speaker 6: But no, but let's let's let's bring it back home
31:20
Speaker 6: because we've we've we've seen players play with dad. We've
31:23
Speaker 6: seen like King Griffy, he played with his dad, right,
31:25
Speaker 6: But King Griffy wasn't never I don't think King Griffy
31:28
Speaker 6: Senior was never considered like the greatest in the or
31:30
Speaker 6: the best in the league, or or the goat conversation.
31:33
Speaker 6: We're talking about somebody who's arguably a top two, top
31:36
Speaker 6: three player of all time in NBA history. And traditionally,
31:40
Speaker 6: their sons don't make don't do good well in sports,
31:44
Speaker 6: they don't do well, they don't they don't make it
31:45
Speaker 6: to the league a lot of times, let alone, you know,
31:48
Speaker 6: be drafted. So I'm saying, for the greatest on somebody
31:52
Speaker 6: skinned the greatest, and his son played with him and
31:56
Speaker 6: maybe to lead.
31:57
Speaker 2: Okay, I would have, I would have. I won't pigot.
32:02
Speaker 5: Okay, Okay.
32:04
Speaker 7: I feel like maybe he's the greatest at longevity, you know,
32:08
Speaker 7: and he's he's able to, like like Carl said, sustain
32:11
Speaker 7: you know, the physicality of being in the.
32:12
Speaker 5: NBA all these years.
32:14
Speaker 7: But what you really need to look at is is
32:16
Speaker 7: his resume of wins and performance? I mean, to me,
32:20
Speaker 7: I still look back at Michael Jordan's and I'm thinking,
32:24
Speaker 7: you know, the comparison between Michael Jordan and Lebron It's
32:29
Speaker 7: different style of play for sure, and so that that
32:32
Speaker 7: makes it even more difficult to determine who is the
32:34
Speaker 7: greatest of all time.
32:35
Speaker 5: Maybe they both are.
32:37
Speaker 7: But to me, I think it's awesome that his son
32:39
Speaker 7: is able, is talented enough to be able to get
32:42
Speaker 7: to that level and play with his dad. But yet
32:44
Speaker 7: I don't know if that qualifies him as the but does.
32:47
Speaker 2: But but does that go on the resume? Guess what?
32:50
Speaker 5: I'm there?
32:51
Speaker 2: But does is that part of when we look at
32:53
Speaker 2: the big all of it? For sure?
32:55
Speaker 6: But so when we look in at resumes, the resumes
32:58
Speaker 6: that's on the resume? Is that not on the resume?
33:01
Speaker 2: Okay?
33:01
Speaker 4: Are you making it on the resume because it's the sun,
33:04
Speaker 4: or you making it on the resume based off of
33:06
Speaker 4: just the number of years that he played.
33:08
Speaker 2: No, if you say, you say, okay, so twenty years.
33:11
Speaker 4: Okay, if he played twenty years, brouh, my hat's off
33:14
Speaker 4: to him. Yeah, Okay, he plays twenty years and he
33:18
Speaker 4: played a game with his son.
33:20
Speaker 2: For three men.
33:21
Speaker 6: Well, let me say this about it. I don't think
33:23
Speaker 6: that say this about the twenty years to me is great,
33:28
Speaker 6: But I don't think with modern technology and I think
33:31
Speaker 6: you can do it, I don't think it's I think
33:33
Speaker 6: we're going to see a lot more of that in
33:35
Speaker 6: the basketball. It's way less physical than the nineties. So
33:38
Speaker 6: to me, I'm not even that's not even like whoopy?
33:41
Speaker 2: Do you know? It's okay, it's big.
33:42
Speaker 6: But what I'm saying to you, you are the considered
33:46
Speaker 6: a go to the game, you considered that one of
33:48
Speaker 6: the greatest ever, and you brought your son up with
33:51
Speaker 6: you and we I don't think we've ever seen that.
33:55
Speaker 2: No, I don't think. No, I don't think we have.
33:58
Speaker 6: Not only playing a guy me because we can say
33:59
Speaker 6: DM to what he's doing with his son should door.
34:02
Speaker 2: But I'm saying playing together, I think it's.
34:05
Speaker 4: I think it's amazing of the just the fact that
34:08
Speaker 4: they're able to do that.
34:10
Speaker 2: I might have to put him over Jordan, but no,
34:13
Speaker 2: I'm not. I'm not putting because.
34:15
Speaker 4: He got your son, your son got your son, got
34:18
Speaker 4: to give me something.
34:19
Speaker 2: He he.
34:24
Speaker 5: This Okay, But let's let's get back to this point. Okay,
34:29
Speaker 5: I'll make this point. So how old was.
34:31
Speaker 7: He though when he entered the NBA Lebron yes, eighteen, Okay, okay, okay.
34:35
Speaker 7: So during during Jordan's tenure, he had to, you know,
34:38
Speaker 7: go through the college before he got there, so you know,
34:42
Speaker 7: he may have played. I don't know how long Jordan
34:44
Speaker 7: played in the league, but maybe close to that.
34:47
Speaker 2: He's fifteen sixteen someone, so you.
34:49
Speaker 7: Got to consider he was younger when he entered the league,
34:52
Speaker 7: which gave him more time to play. And like I said,
34:56
Speaker 7: I think you have to look at the resume of
34:58
Speaker 7: championships he's won compaired to other players.
35:01
Speaker 5: I'm not saying he's not one of the greatest of
35:03
Speaker 5: all time. I think he's awesome.
35:04
Speaker 2: Okay, let me ask you to let me ask you though, Okay,
35:14
Speaker 2: So I'm strong.
35:16
Speaker 6: Okay, So all those points we made in all that
35:18
Speaker 6: valid that you had to go through the college system.
35:20
Speaker 6: But let's assume that even Jordan's out the league and
35:23
Speaker 6: then his son makes the league. So I'm not saying
35:26
Speaker 6: necessarily that even that like Lebron is playing with his son,
35:30
Speaker 6: which I think that's a separate thing. But the fact
35:32
Speaker 6: that his son even made the league when Jordan's kids
35:35
Speaker 6: ain't make the league.
35:36
Speaker 7: Yeah, but who's mommy. Mommy might have to sum through
35:38
Speaker 7: some jeans that played the party college ball.
35:42
Speaker 2: Both Jordan says, both played college ball. Yeah, anyone.
35:46
Speaker 4: And the power in which Lebron has ended the game
35:51
Speaker 4: now what he has with his team, the power, because
35:57
Speaker 4: let's be honest, is that was that the Lakers' best
36:01
Speaker 4: pit was that gonna be was that gonna be their
36:04
Speaker 4: best Okay, so this was this was an orchestrated to me,
36:09
Speaker 4: this was an orchestrated thing. All Right, we're gonna go ahead,
36:12
Speaker 4: we're gonna draft. The fact that you did it. I
36:14
Speaker 4: don't care if it's even orchestrated. The fact that you
36:17
Speaker 4: did it, the fact that you're gonnad that you like,
36:22
Speaker 4: hats off to that's on the rest. Lebron could make
36:26
Speaker 4: professional basketball shut down on a holiday.
36:29
Speaker 2: He can created a.
36:29
Speaker 4: Holiday for me, like, like I don't want to work today,
36:32
Speaker 4: Let's just call this a holiday. This just call this
36:34
Speaker 4: Lebron and everybody go shut down. But I'm not gonna
36:38
Speaker 4: give him like his son's got to do something. His
36:41
Speaker 4: son's gotta The fact that you made it, but the
36:46
Speaker 4: fact that you just.
36:46
Speaker 6: Made it to me, to me even like an around
36:50
Speaker 6: the second, which is like going to the last round
36:52
Speaker 6: of the NFL draft. But what I'm saying, even like
36:54
Speaker 6: Shador Sanders Shador again they don't play together, obviously, but
36:58
Speaker 6: I'm saying the fact that should your Sanders. Deon said
37:01
Speaker 6: that we can argue the greatest, uh one of the
37:04
Speaker 6: greatest football players ever and his son is a first
37:07
Speaker 6: round draft pick at a quarterback and has the potential
37:10
Speaker 6: to do whatever. To me, that's like that elevates you.
37:16
Speaker 2: I am all for that.
37:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just not on for the other side because
37:22
Speaker 4: when you start talking about your door, that ain't the same.
37:26
Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, okay, I mean I got you. I mean,
37:31
Speaker 2: I'll give you that. But I'm just saying, as a
37:33
Speaker 2: superstar got we know the pressure that's on those kids,
37:36
Speaker 2: Like we talk about transferring and all that sort of thing,
37:38
Speaker 2: and the pressure because I think now it's a different
37:41
Speaker 2: set of pressure on the kids because, as you mentioned, Lisa,
37:44
Speaker 2: with all the trans excuse me, with all the social
37:46
Speaker 2: media and access to media, and particularly a kid like that,
37:50
Speaker 2: with all that pressure and everything, and you still figure
37:53
Speaker 2: out a way to get him to that level the media.
37:56
Speaker 2: But here's the thing, go over that spot. He got
37:59
Speaker 2: the crown. The benefit of being Lebron's son is.
38:07
Speaker 4: Your only like all the all the noise that Lebron's
38:10
Speaker 4: gonna get, he's shutting that out and so his kid
38:14
Speaker 4: ain't getting all that heat.
38:16
Speaker 2: Oh no, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that.
38:20
Speaker 4: They're not talking about him on social media and saying
38:23
Speaker 4: he's not this, he's not that.
38:25
Speaker 2: I'm not saying that.
38:26
Speaker 4: But it's Lebron's son, and Lebron is like got him
38:29
Speaker 4: under his arm, and like, bro, come on, don't don't
38:32
Speaker 4: don't read that.
38:34
Speaker 2: Just look, come on listen, get out here to start
38:36
Speaker 2: and fight.
38:37
Speaker 5: And here's the other side to that.
38:39
Speaker 7: I know what you're saying about the pressure Haulius and
38:42
Speaker 7: and all that, but you know what they say, what
38:44
Speaker 7: what's one of the sayings. My my dad used to
38:46
Speaker 7: tell me talk good about me, talk bad about me,
38:49
Speaker 7: but talk about me.
38:50
Speaker 5: And you know that's the thing.
38:51
Speaker 7: I mean, he had those opportunities right out of the
38:53
Speaker 7: gate because of his dad was so you know, you
38:56
Speaker 7: compare that to some kid that you know just plays it,
39:00
Speaker 7: you know, Capitol High School, I mean, right out of
39:02
Speaker 7: the gate, he had eyes on him.
39:04
Speaker 2: If he don't have if he doesn't have a dad
39:06
Speaker 2: playing in the NBA, he's a UC.
39:09
Speaker 4: There you go, that's not that's not that's not. That's
39:16
Speaker 4: not Dion Sun's situation. He's going he can ball, he
39:21
Speaker 4: can ball, he can ball. But I'm just saying, and
39:24
Speaker 4: d I don't need to do anything true.
39:28
Speaker 6: I mean, I give you that, I give you that,
39:29
Speaker 6: But I'm just saying, man, I just think it's phenomenal
39:32
Speaker 6: because generally great players, they they're they're offspring, sons, daughters
39:37
Speaker 6: aren't necessarily comparable great, particularly in the same sport. Now
39:41
Speaker 6: and he may be great in a different sport, but
39:44
Speaker 6: generally you're not great in the same sport. It's the
39:47
Speaker 6: same thing. But no, I'm saying it's the same thing
39:49
Speaker 6: with the Mannis. It's like why the man's that legacy
39:52
Speaker 6: is so phenomenal. Dad was a great quarterback, brother is
39:55
Speaker 6: a great quarterback. The nephew is gonna be a great quarterback.
39:58
Speaker 6: That's the greatest. That's probably the SA his family. Yeah,
40:01
Speaker 6: the Matthews with family. Yeah, really funny, that's crazy. It's
40:07
Speaker 6: so funny.
40:08
Speaker 4: I mean, I played with Archie. Yeah, you know, I
40:11
Speaker 4: got a year with him. But I just think that
40:16
Speaker 4: Lebron has made this happen for.
40:18
Speaker 6: His So you're saying, so the son didn't do it
40:20
Speaker 6: on his own marriage. I mean, I think we all
40:22
Speaker 6: can agree with that. But I'm saying even to have
40:25
Speaker 6: the pool because we remember, like even with the end
40:27
Speaker 6: of Michael Jordan there he even Michael Jordan that during
40:30
Speaker 6: that time didn't have the pool with Jay Krous and
40:32
Speaker 6: those guys, to actually keep that thing together because they
40:34
Speaker 6: probably would have won a couple more championships.
40:37
Speaker 4: Well, Lebron is is managing coaching, you know, like he's
40:42
Speaker 4: managing the coaching situation.
40:45
Speaker 2: That might make Lebron the greatest because because he's doing
40:49
Speaker 2: it allinwashed I'm telling you that might like the.
40:57
Speaker 5: Lebron the coach.
40:59
Speaker 2: He gets to pick the players. Hell he the GM.
41:02
Speaker 4: Oh Okay, so championships, Okay, in that in that vein
41:07
Speaker 4: when you when you stay when you say it like that,
41:10
Speaker 4: what you're saying is he's like the Godfather.
41:12
Speaker 2: He got I give you, and I don't think we've
41:17
Speaker 2: ever seen a player in.
41:18
Speaker 4: Sport that's a difference beside of Floyd Mayweather. Outside of
41:22
Speaker 4: a boxer, where that's kind of an individual promotion if
41:25
Speaker 4: you're looking at a team sport. And we can sort
41:27
Speaker 4: of relate this back to like what the conversation we
41:30
Speaker 4: had last segment about the parents and sort of what
41:33
Speaker 4: they're seeing and how they're moving now because they're seeing
41:36
Speaker 4: somebody like Lebron who has total control of everything going on.
41:40
Speaker 4: So I think of what a lot of parents are saying, Hell,
41:43
Speaker 4: my kid is the best kid, my kids all State,
41:45
Speaker 4: my kids Division one player. I in my kid, but
41:48
Speaker 4: mostly I want that same level control too, And I'm
41:51
Speaker 4: saying Lebron is I think changed the way sports parents
41:56
Speaker 4: have thought about how to maneuver their kids, whether it's
42:00
Speaker 4: and then we look at the same thing with them,
42:01
Speaker 4: how to move their kids, whether it's youth league all
42:03
Speaker 4: the way to maybe a collegiate.
42:05
Speaker 2: Or now professional sports.
42:07
Speaker 6: So I'm saying Lebron has been able to take all
42:10
Speaker 6: that and say, look, this is what I want, even
42:13
Speaker 6: at twenty years in, even on the down side of
42:16
Speaker 6: his career. So I'm saying, you gotta look, that's got
42:19
Speaker 6: to count on the resume and say, man, and again,
42:22
Speaker 6: I'm a Jordan fan. I grew up WGN. I watched
42:24
Speaker 6: every Michael Jordan graingo growing up. We had that here Loco. Yeah,
42:28
Speaker 6: so yes, but I'm saying.
42:31
Speaker 2: So, what I'm saying is like we got to count
42:32
Speaker 2: that on the resume, and I don't know, we can
42:35
Speaker 2: never look past it. I don't know where ever going
42:36
Speaker 2: to see something like this again.
42:41
Speaker 7: I mean, I think when we talk about and we
42:44
Speaker 7: talk about the goat in different sports. We talk about
42:46
Speaker 7: it in football, we talk about it in basketball. I
42:49
Speaker 7: think in my mind when I think about hearing the
42:51
Speaker 7: greatest of all time, I think it all is generational.
42:55
Speaker 7: I think you have to look at the time that
42:57
Speaker 7: the player's played, and I don't think you could compare one,
43:02
Speaker 7: you know, facet of time to another, Like you can't
43:04
Speaker 7: compare the nineties and what Michael Jordan did during that
43:07
Speaker 7: time period to what's going on in the NBA now.
43:10
Speaker 7: Same with football, Like what you're saying with Archie Manning,
43:13
Speaker 7: his style of play compared to what we we're doing
43:15
Speaker 7: today as a quarterback is completely different styles of play.
43:18
Speaker 5: So to me, I can't just pick one.
43:21
Speaker 7: You can say that there's several, I guess, yeah, But
43:24
Speaker 7: to say there's one goat of a sport, I don't
43:28
Speaker 7: feel like is a fair thing to even try to do.
43:32
Speaker 6: And also when you talk about generational differences, I also
43:36
Speaker 6: think when you're like, if you're like the nineties kind
43:40
Speaker 6: of back, I think it's all about the play on
43:42
Speaker 6: the court. And I think when we're looking at two
43:45
Speaker 6: thousands and those arguing that these new players are the greatest,
43:48
Speaker 6: we're looking holistically. So we're saying we're looking at the
43:51
Speaker 6: play on the court, but we're also looking at, well,
43:53
Speaker 6: what's your shoe deal, like, what's your business? Like in
43:56
Speaker 6: Lebron's case, he has control of everything. So I think
44:00
Speaker 6: we're adding different factors maybe that you guys don't add
44:03
Speaker 6: because you're strictly looking at play on the field, on
44:06
Speaker 6: the court, or what have you, and we're looking at
44:08
Speaker 6: the totality of everything.
44:09
Speaker 4: Okay, so if if my if my dad joined every
44:15
Speaker 4: coaching staff that I played on coming through, that ain't
44:20
Speaker 4: gonna make me to go even if even if I
44:22
Speaker 4: still play in the league, and blah blah blah blah,
44:24
Speaker 4: that ain't gonna make him the Minnesota And you played
44:28
Speaker 4: for Minnesota and your dad was the best in his
44:31
Speaker 4: era and you playing now, man, you let's get an
44:35
Speaker 4: argument that's that's bragging rights like a mug, right, that's
44:38
Speaker 4: that's I think that's bragging rights for sure.
44:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I'm kind of over here with
44:44
Speaker 2: Lisa because I'm.
44:45
Speaker 4: The way that I see this is this is the
44:48
Speaker 4: epitome of daddy ball.
44:50
Speaker 2: Okay, see, okay, you're looking at it in the negative. No,
44:53
Speaker 2: I'm not.
44:54
Speaker 3: But what.
44:57
Speaker 4: They have drafted him and and Lebron, and Lebron has
45:01
Speaker 4: that power. So the question is why didn't Okay, so
45:06
Speaker 4: if he's a second round pick, and if that's if
45:08
Speaker 4: you and by your words, that's a last round pencil.
45:12
Speaker 4: So if he was so good, why didn't somebody get him?
45:19
Speaker 4: Why wouldn't somebody else get him?
45:21
Speaker 6: I think the word was out by Lebron's people. Hey,
45:25
Speaker 6: he's off limits.
45:26
Speaker 4: From the moment he started playing basketball and there was
45:29
Speaker 4: the reality that they could possibly play on the same team.
45:32
Speaker 4: I don't care what team Lebron was going to play on.
45:35
Speaker 4: His son was going to be on that team, right,
45:37
Speaker 4: So that does epitome of daddy Okay, but let's go
45:41
Speaker 4: get back.
45:41
Speaker 6: So to my point, when parents are looking at it,
45:45
Speaker 6: that's a negative thing. So so I don't think you're
45:47
Speaker 6: looking at this based on Bronni's merit to what he
45:52
Speaker 6: should be because so you're saying this is a negative,
45:54
Speaker 6: it's not good for anybody.
45:55
Speaker 4: No, it's not because somebody's parent is looking and trying
45:59
Speaker 4: to you know. I had somebody come up to me
46:03
Speaker 4: when I was at the high school and talked to
46:05
Speaker 4: me and said, all my son's this, this, this and
46:07
Speaker 4: this and that. You know, I want him to do this,
46:09
Speaker 4: I want him to do that. I was like, well,
46:11
Speaker 4: you know, I you know, I don't know. I gotta
46:14
Speaker 4: see him never showed up, because what did he want? Okay,
46:21
Speaker 4: I'm good, I'll take him. I can't. I'm gonna take him.
46:24
Speaker 4: If you're gonna give him, I'm gonna take him. But
46:27
Speaker 4: I can't guarantee you nothing. Lebron is walking around with
46:31
Speaker 4: that power and he's nobody else is touching it.
46:37
Speaker 2: It's the epitome of power in the league.
46:40
Speaker 4: But that's a good thing, right. No, No, it's not
46:44
Speaker 4: because anybody else that comes up and in that situation,
46:48
Speaker 4: now teams are stuck getting everybody else's kid.
46:53
Speaker 5: I was just gonna say that he played for how
46:55
Speaker 5: long with his dad?
46:56
Speaker 2: You said the other couple of minutes three.
47:00
Speaker 7: Okay, So, so do you feel like he's a potential starter?
47:05
Speaker 2: I would say no, so do you.
47:07
Speaker 7: Like okay, so do you feel like he's taking a
47:10
Speaker 7: space on the team that someone else that would be?
47:15
Speaker 5: So that is kind of what take his side. But
47:20
Speaker 5: I can see that.
47:21
Speaker 4: I'm not arguing that that's far okay, But I'm saying
47:24
Speaker 4: the fact that you just got him there, regardless of
47:26
Speaker 4: how you got him there, you like the power you
47:29
Speaker 4: gotta you gotta like the power because number one players
47:32
Speaker 4: in those sports were talking about NFL, NBA, NHL, major
47:37
Speaker 4: League Baseball, they never had that sort of power.
47:39
Speaker 2: That ain't the power you want though that.
47:42
Speaker 4: No, that's not the power we need that we can
47:44
Speaker 4: get our son all the way through the system.
47:46
Speaker 2: No, we don't need that. You need that power, We don't.
47:49
Speaker 4: Your kid needs to be able to fit the metrics
47:52
Speaker 4: to get in period that they.
47:54
Speaker 7: Should deserve exactly they should earn it.
47:58
Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I.
48:04
Speaker 5: See his point.
48:05
Speaker 2: I'm saying, you got that sort of power.
48:07
Speaker 5: He's got his own resident.
48:08
Speaker 7: I mean, to me, he's the he's the greatest, he's
48:10
Speaker 7: one of the greatest of all time.
48:11
Speaker 5: Without the fact that his son unrit.
48:17
Speaker 6: I'm saying the fact that you got him, the fact
48:20
Speaker 6: that you got your son. And again it's been an
48:22
Speaker 6: other places, Gary Payton's son place, Tim hardaway Son's place,
48:26
Speaker 6: Scottie Pippen's son is on his way.
48:28
Speaker 4: So there's been other guys. But the fact that you
48:30
Speaker 4: got him and you playing with it, You got him.
48:32
Speaker 2: To the NBA and you playing with him, and you
48:35
Speaker 2: had the power to do maybe somebody who wasn't necessarily ready,
48:39
Speaker 2: I'll say like that, my dad. My dad would never
48:43
Speaker 2: want to say.
48:45
Speaker 4: Though, I get it, generation to the same point, to
48:49
Speaker 4: the same point, my dad, because because you're you're you're
48:53
Speaker 4: touting the idea of this man has got his kid
48:59
Speaker 4: all the way to the lake.
49:00
Speaker 2: You're touting me. So I'm saying my dad.
49:05
Speaker 4: Would be the would be the one saying, mm hmmm,
49:08
Speaker 4: he ain't even ready. He needs but he needs. But
49:11
Speaker 4: here's the fact, though, what I'm saying is this.
49:14
Speaker 6: Bronny is going into the family business and and he's
49:18
Speaker 6: starting at the ground level of the family business.
49:21
Speaker 2: So this is the thing that.
49:25
Speaker 5: Opportunity.
49:26
Speaker 6: I think lebron is gonna own multiple sports franchise and
49:28
Speaker 6: he gonna own then NFL team. I think he's going
49:30
Speaker 6: that direction. So I'm saying, this is ground floor where
49:33
Speaker 6: we're starting at. You're gonna get your taste.
49:35
Speaker 4: Now how long you stays on you because let's face it,
49:37
Speaker 4: once Lebron leaves, then we're gonna see he probably ain't
49:40
Speaker 4: gonna be around for that long or he's gonna have
49:42
Speaker 4: to fight his way through. So it's gonna be a
49:45
Speaker 4: it's gonna be an opportunity to fight his way through.
49:47
Speaker 4: But what I'm saying is that you enter the family business,
49:50
Speaker 4: maybe before you're reading family business, maybe before you ready.
49:54
Speaker 5: Saying godfather, you know what I'm saying.
49:59
Speaker 6: You want to give Lebron so for that, And I'm
50:02
Speaker 6: saying to me at this point, he doesn't jump everybody.
50:05
Speaker 2: Lebron is it? He is it? He number won ever
50:09
Speaker 2: in all sports.
50:10
Speaker 4: Please to help me, Please help me Lebron.
50:16
Speaker 2: And beyond the fact that they can't even put.
50:19
Speaker 4: Them in the same in the same basket, be honest,
50:23
Speaker 4: way above him.
50:26
Speaker 2: No, no, not come on, no, I would say that
50:28
Speaker 2: you're right about that, and his.
50:30
Speaker 7: Kids are way His son would not be a starting
50:36
Speaker 7: quarterback at a at a college unless he is the best.
50:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, he's able to do it. And the NBA is different.
50:42
Speaker 7: You know, they can bring that, bring you know, Brouny
50:44
Speaker 7: out for a few minutes and put on a show
50:47
Speaker 7: and then put him back on the bench where he
50:48
Speaker 7: probably belongs.
50:51
Speaker 2: I don't know. A couple of shots.
50:55
Speaker 5: Paraded him out, you.
50:56
Speaker 2: Know, But the fact that it happened to get something
50:59
Speaker 2: that you got, you got.
51:01
Speaker 5: To a player did that, it's all good.
51:06
Speaker 4: No, you can't give it him like you can't give him.
51:14
Speaker 2: The thing.
51:14
Speaker 4: Though, I'm submitting that it's a problem. I submit that.
51:17
Speaker 4: I will submit to you that it's a problem. I
51:19
Speaker 4: submit to you that it's one of those problems that's
51:21
Speaker 4: going to not have repercussions at the top, were gonna
51:23
Speaker 4: have recussions that the you level them down right at
51:26
Speaker 4: high school and all that. But the fact that he
51:29
Speaker 4: was able to do it, man, you gotta give him
51:31
Speaker 4: something for that.
51:32
Speaker 2: And to me, he jumps over everybody.
51:35
Speaker 4: Again, nobody had that type of power and team sports
51:38
Speaker 4: power is not the goat though. It's what we were
51:43
Speaker 4: saying the dude in the ration, That's what we're saying,
51:47
Speaker 4: y'all only looking stuff on the field.
51:49
Speaker 2: You only you only look at performance. That's the only
51:53
Speaker 2: thing you saw that matter. It doesn't Jordan's. As much
51:57
Speaker 2: as Jordan was a performer on the field, he changed
52:00
Speaker 2: the whole dynamic of merchandising ye which is going to
52:03
Speaker 2: his legacy. Nobody ever gonna have batter shoes in apparel
52:06
Speaker 2: than Jordan.
52:07
Speaker 4: But that's not number one. That's not that's not that
52:09
Speaker 4: that's power. That was power into the sneaker business. That's
52:12
Speaker 4: power into this.
52:13
Speaker 2: But that counsel on the resume, that count on the resume.
52:17
Speaker 2: But it's not power. It is power.
52:20
Speaker 4: It's not the kind of power that he can get
52:22
Speaker 4: his son in to play and his son is five
52:25
Speaker 4: foot five and he's gonna he gonna get three minutes
52:27
Speaker 4: on the court.
52:28
Speaker 6: No, because and I say this, it wasn't that he
52:31
Speaker 6: I think Jordan probably had the power. It's just that
52:33
Speaker 6: he had your mentality. He wasn't gonna boost his son
52:36
Speaker 6: of who he didn't feel like was was ready to
52:39
Speaker 6: do that.
52:39
Speaker 2: But Lebron is thinking different.
52:41
Speaker 6: I'm gonna get my son, bring him in on the
52:42
Speaker 6: family business, give him a taste, see what he can do.
52:44
Speaker 6: Because if it don't work out on this side, maybe
52:46
Speaker 6: he can go to the office, he can work out
52:47
Speaker 6: on the or coaching to go on that side and
52:49
Speaker 6: work it out. So it's phenomenal to me, like I
52:52
Speaker 6: changed my mind on it.
52:53
Speaker 4: Listen, I'm not putting you know my grandson is not
52:59
Speaker 4: gonna be a ball player right now.
53:02
Speaker 2: He ain't interested in it. He don't, he ain't gonna.
53:04
Speaker 2: He ain't gonna be to watch some old clips and
53:08
Speaker 2: put on that thirty nine. I want him to be.
53:11
Speaker 4: I want, I want him. I wanted to football. What
53:16
Speaker 4: I want for him is whatever it is that he
53:19
Speaker 4: wants now. If I can help him in that process,
53:23
Speaker 4: right I'm all out right, Like I'd be all out
53:27
Speaker 4: in any situation that he couldn't eat.
53:30
Speaker 2: If he said he wanted to be a cornerback today,
53:32
Speaker 2: I would be working with him right now.
53:34
Speaker 6: You're going to do everything possible that give him to
53:37
Speaker 6: where he should be success.
53:39
Speaker 7: I think what Carls his point that he's trying to
53:41
Speaker 7: make here is is did did lebron kind of put
53:45
Speaker 7: it in Bronnie's head for what you want to do?
53:48
Speaker 7: Not so much really what Bronni wanted or was drawn
53:51
Speaker 7: to or what he was for.
53:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, them playing together in the first NBA game, blah
53:55
Speaker 4: blah blah blah. Who put that it's an old clip
53:59
Speaker 4: of Lebron years ago, and he said, they asked me, well, like,
54:01
Speaker 4: what's your dream for your son?
54:02
Speaker 6: Blah blah blah. He said, I want, I want to
54:04
Speaker 6: play with my son in the NBA.
54:05
Speaker 2: So a hundred. But the fact matter the fact that okay,
54:11
Speaker 2: but I said, like, it's again, how many parents do
54:14
Speaker 2: we know that dreams in parents kids head that didn't
54:17
Speaker 2: manifest to squad And the fact that he put the
54:19
Speaker 2: dream in his head and I and it manifested and
54:23
Speaker 2: it fulfilled this that I have.
54:25
Speaker 5: The resources to make that dream happen, right.
54:29
Speaker 4: And then I think most parents, I'll go back to
54:33
Speaker 4: my parents. Okay, I'm I'm saying I want to play
54:37
Speaker 4: pro football when when playing pro football was not even
54:40
Speaker 4: something that you could actually legitimately talk about. My mom
54:44
Speaker 4: supported me, my dad supported me.
54:47
Speaker 2: Okay.
54:48
Speaker 4: That support made it very easy for me to feel
54:52
Speaker 4: comfortable in my dream to spend the time and know
54:56
Speaker 4: when I'm not spending enough time to do it, my
54:58
Speaker 4: dad wouldn't make sure, Like if I'm not running, he
55:00
Speaker 4: didn't he didn't wake up and get and pushed me
55:03
Speaker 4: out the door.
55:04
Speaker 2: But if I didn't do it, what were you doing
55:07
Speaker 2: why you ain't running? Day? You know that was for me?
55:11
Speaker 2: Did he live my dream? Did my mom live my dream? Yes?
55:16
Speaker 4: But my dad was like, I'm I'm gonna be I'm
55:20
Speaker 4: gonna be there with you. I want to I want
55:23
Speaker 4: to get there with you.
55:24
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. And wait, but they all
55:26
Speaker 2: live in a dream.
55:27
Speaker 6: For Bronni, everybody got the dream now everybody, and Lebron
55:31
Speaker 6: made it happen.
55:32
Speaker 2: So however he made it happen.
55:35
Speaker 7: He say one more thing, because what what what Carl
55:40
Speaker 7: said about his dad? When Carl went to his parents
55:43
Speaker 7: and said this is what I want to do, they
55:44
Speaker 7: supported him. They didn't put the idea in his head.
55:47
Speaker 7: If Carl would have went to his parents and said
55:49
Speaker 7: I want to be a doctor someday, then you know
55:50
Speaker 7: they that.
55:52
Speaker 2: You know, But what's putting dreams inside your keys? I don't.
55:56
Speaker 2: I mean, it don't always work out well in this
55:58
Speaker 2: case he did.
55:59
Speaker 4: If I put a dream in my grandson or my
56:02
Speaker 4: son's head, that's my dream.
56:04
Speaker 2: Right, and it worked out in this case. I'm saying
56:07
Speaker 2: a lot of times.
56:08
Speaker 4: So what we're saying is Lebron got his dream come true.
56:14
Speaker 2: Doesn't agree with that? Who does that?
56:16
Speaker 6: Who get to like you the greatest one, the greatest
56:18
Speaker 6: of all time, and you got your son?
56:20
Speaker 2: Can he who should?
56:21
Speaker 4: Probably would BRONI say, Lisa, if I can mute you,
56:25
Speaker 4: I'd mute you with the new equipment, I can't, Lisa.
56:31
Speaker 4: I'm in my mind, I'm thinking there's no way Bronnie
56:37
Speaker 4: can turn the dance to dad. You know what, it's basketball?
56:41
Speaker 2: Really, I don't really think that I'm I'm I'm at
56:44
Speaker 2: the level of everybody else.
56:46
Speaker 5: Right, or that I maybe he doesn't need I.
56:49
Speaker 2: Got your mic blocked so.
56:52
Speaker 7: Or maybe even saying something like I really don't think
56:55
Speaker 7: basketball's for me.
56:56
Speaker 5: Like you know, like I mean, I don't. You don't
56:58
Speaker 5: know what conversations have been.
57:00
Speaker 7: That's true, But you know, I think it is amazing
57:04
Speaker 7: that what happened with Brownie being able to join his dad,
57:06
Speaker 7: and you know that that's a dream come true for
57:08
Speaker 7: lebron But is it a dream come true for Brownie.
57:10
Speaker 5: I'm sure it is now that he's.
57:12
Speaker 7: Experienced it, But I don't think at a young age
57:14
Speaker 7: he maybe he did.
57:16
Speaker 5: I don't know, nobody knows what happened.
57:18
Speaker 4: What if I'm what if I'm the sixth man? And
57:21
Speaker 4: Bronnie came in before me. Hey bro, this Lebron's team.
57:24
Speaker 4: You got to do what what coach say over there?
57:27
Speaker 4: Coach shots he just a uniform. But I legitimately think that.
57:34
Speaker 6: Is But to me again, to me, it's secondary where
57:38
Speaker 6: the dream came from. I'm not even looking at deep.
57:40
Speaker 6: I'm just saying the fact that he made it. Man,
57:43
Speaker 6: it's it's it's crazy. That's crazy that a player would
57:47
Speaker 6: have that much power, that much authority, that much over
57:51
Speaker 6: a French. I'm a Laker for over a French. I
57:53
Speaker 6: was like the Lakers.
57:54
Speaker 4: We ain't talking about the Clippers. We're not talking about
57:57
Speaker 4: the Cavaliers. We're not talking about But it's only the same.
58:00
Speaker 4: Team ownership is still the same now, like it's not
58:03
Speaker 4: old school either.
58:04
Speaker 6: It's not old school. It's not like it was not
58:05
Speaker 6: for some franchises. But I think for something like this again,
58:09
Speaker 6: everybody's talking about it today. They getting all the pub
58:12
Speaker 6: in the world that may not manifest into a both
58:14
Speaker 6: bunch of wins, but the fact that he was able
58:16
Speaker 6: to do this, to me, he jumps everybody.
58:18
Speaker 2: He's the greatest in sports history.
58:20
Speaker 4: We will have to get back together as as this
58:23
Speaker 4: goes down through the season and.
58:26
Speaker 2: Kind of discussed this halfway through. So Lisa, we'll have
58:28
