- 0:13How you going, Jay Fallon here, slippery slopes.
- 0:15We've got to get into a bit of bit of things going on in
- 0:19Victoria, Victorian Police. It's been a bit of a bit of
- 0:23flux, a state of flux for the last couple of days.
- 0:26Finally the police commissioner down there has fallen on his
- 0:29sword handed in his resignation. I love these.
- 0:33It's always the same thing. You get these resignations come
- 0:36out from these high profile people and they always with a
- 0:41heavy heart. I'd love one day for someone to
- 0:44come out there and go crackers be.
- 0:46Cracking so I'm a cracker. Lacking instead.
- 0:49Of something stupid boy with a heavy heart.
- 0:51Everyone's got a heavy heart. They've been going through all
- 0:54this rubbish for how long now? How long has the the union been
- 0:58picking at him? You could see things were
- 1:00falling apart in Victoria. But anyway, he finally, like I
- 1:07said, fallen on his sword. A couple of things just want to
- 1:10go through I'm. Going to bring up these.
- 1:12Articles. But is is more so what's the
- 1:15Premier? How the Premier raised
- 1:18everything we'll go through, go through two articles just very
- 1:22quickly because there's not much else to say.
- 1:24We, we've seen this going on. You can see the writing on the
- 1:27wall. Really.
- 1:28Like I said, with a heavy heart, this is Sydney Morning here with
- 1:31a heavy heart. Police chief resigns effective
- 1:34immediately. So Commissioner Shane Payton
- 1:37stepped away from the role effective immediately.
- 1:41He's released a resignation statement on Sunday evening, as
- 1:45did the state government, after weeks of speculation about
- 1:49whether he would see out the remaining months of his contract
- 1:52that ends in June. Remind you of what happened here
- 1:56in Queensland last year. Victoria Police was plunged into
- 2:00a leadership process on Friday after a bruising no confidence
- 2:03vote by 87% of rank and file officers.
- 2:07That is huge. 87 Oh wow, that's massive, he says.
- 2:13I have been. I have this evening advised
- 2:15governments that given the current circumstances
- 2:18surrounding my position, I have decided to step away from the
- 2:20role effective immediately. Jacinta Allen said Rick Nugent
- 2:25would take the role of acting chief commissioner in the other
- 2:29article from ABC So Jacinta, Jacinta Allen Jacinta Jacinta
- 2:36Allen she's blamed the overwhelming no confidence vote.
- 2:40So she says an overwhelming no confidence motion moved against
- 2:44the state's police chief on Friday was the trigger.
- 2:47It was an outcome that simply could not be ignored.
- 2:50Miss Allen Miss Allen said that the police union vote in which
- 2:54the vast majority of members declared they didn't have
- 2:57confidence. Ellen said following the vote,
- 3:02conversations were held over the weekend with senior officials,
- 3:06leading to Mr Payton's resignation on Sunday night.
- 3:09Under sustained questioning by reporters on Monday, the premier
- 3:13refused to confirm whether she or Police Minister Anthony
- 3:17Carbons had personally spoken with Mr Payton over the weekend.
- 3:22Out of respectful to Mr Payton, out of respect to the office of
- 3:25chief commissioner, I'm not going to go into the details of
- 3:29those conversations. How ridiculous is the Victorian
- 3:34premier? I mean, seriously, she works for
- 3:37the she works for the Victorian people.
- 3:39She's the premier of Victoria. She's a public servant and she
- 3:43she doesn't want it to even tell the public whether she had a an
- 3:48actual conversation with former police commissioner Shane
- 3:52Payton. Why can't she just come in and
- 3:53say this is exactly what what happened?
- 3:56You know, I've either spoken to him or the the police minister
- 4:00has spoken to him. Be honest, be transparent.
- 4:03This has been a long problem with Victorian governments.
- 4:06They are not, they have not been honest or transparent for many,
- 4:10many years. She was obviously just handed
- 4:13the role after, after the other fellow Dan Andrews got out and
- 4:19he was why I can't say much about him.
- 4:21He'd probably anyway, we all know what Dan Andrews was like,
- 4:24what he put the Victorian people through.
- 4:27So, you know, she can't even come out and say, hey, we
- 4:31actually had a conversation, but she goes and gives all these
- 4:34excuses. I think this is very reminiscent
- 4:38to me, reminiscent of what happened in Queensland.
- 4:41You see a government that's starting to fail, that's
- 4:43flailing and wanting to, to spread the the blame.
- 4:48So what happened in Queensland, you know, we had a lot of things
- 4:50going wrong, wrong. Part of the issues were we could
- 4:54see crime escalating, a lot of issues with teen crime in
- 4:58Queensland. Obviously our former police
- 5:03commissioner just had one failure after another because
- 5:06she wasn't much of A leader. Katarina Carol, just in case
- 5:09you've forgotten her name, her. Unfortunately they didn't get
- 5:13rid of Mark Ryan because as we've seen, he's a fairly
- 5:16popular person within their government anyway, but they were
- 5:20having problems. So part of the, you know, part
- 5:24of their solution was, hey, we'll, we'll push the police
- 5:28commissioner out hoping that that helps give their, give them
- 5:32better numbers. That's what I think happened
- 5:34here in Queensland. And this is to me, it seems
- 5:38what's happened in Victoria. Shane Payton.
- 5:41Obviously there's been a lot of, a lot of fallout from the things
- 5:44happening in Victoria over the last couple of years.
- 5:47Victorian government, as I said have been flailing and just one
- 5:52bad news story after a next. We can see they are in dire
- 5:56straits financially. They have made so many terrible
- 6:00decisions when it comes to more financial decisions that put
- 6:04themselves in extreme dire straits.
- 6:07They've got a just a terrible problem with crime, crime rates
- 6:13and youth crime down in in Victoria.
- 6:16So how can they look as if they're doing something
- 6:20positive, go through back channels and push the police
- 6:24commissioner out? This is what I believe has
- 6:27happened. It's just a political move.
- 6:29All these high ranking officers are just political appointments
- 6:31anyway and it's just a part of the government strategy to help
- 6:37give them better poll numbers. That's all it is.
- 6:40Because it's very, very likely that Miss Allen is not going to
- 6:43win the election, the next Victorian election and be handed
- 6:47the premiership again anyway. So they're just going down the
- 6:51same path as what I think Queensland did.
- 6:55And it didn't work for Queensland.
- 6:56I don't think it's going to work for Jacinta Allen.
- 7:00And that's the way it should be too, because they're pathetic
- 7:04government, pathetic and corrupt government in my opinion anyway.
- 7:10That's just what I think. You let me know what you think.
- 7:13This is all just my opinion. My name is still Jay Fallon.
- 7:16This is still a slippery slope and thanks for listening.
- 7:20Crackers be. Cracking so I'm a cracker.
- 7:22Lacking, they just feel.
