- 0:12Hello friends, it is Sean here and it is Wednesday.
- 0:16We have hit the middle of the week and you have tucked on play
- 0:21and I'm delighted that you and I get to continue reading the
- 0:25Bible together. And today we will finish off
- 0:29this series of 10 chapters in which God announces His judgment
- 0:34over all the nations of the world, starting in the East of
- 0:38Babylon, all the way over to the West, entire.
- 0:42Today that we will read through and this is God announcing that
- 0:47He is in fact the God of all the nations and not just Israel, but
- 0:52the whole world is His, And well, you'll see how it ends.
- 0:57It's a little, it's a little surprising.
- 0:58Perhaps after announcing all the judgments on the sins of these
- 1:02nations, God still shows His heart that longs for these
- 1:06people to turn back to Him. So let us read together Isaiah
- 1:13Chapter 23. This message came to me
- 1:26concerning Tyre Wail. You trading ships of Tashish for
- 1:33the harbour and houses of Tyre are gone.
- 1:36The rumors you heard in Cyprus are all true.
- 1:39Mourn in silence. You people of the coast and you
- 1:43merchants have sit on your traders crossed the sea, sailing
- 1:48over deep waters. They brought you grain from
- 1:51Egypt and harvests from along the Nile.
- 1:55You were the marketplace of the world, but now you are put to
- 2:00shame. City of Sudan for Tyre, the
- 2:03fortress of the sea, says, now I am childless.
- 2:09I have no sons or daughters. When Egypt hears the news about
- 2:14Tyre, there will be great sorrow.
- 2:17Send word now to Tashish whale. You people who live in distant
- 2:22lands. Is this silent ruin all that is
- 2:26left of your once joyous city? What a long history was yours.
- 2:32Think of all the colonists you sent to distant places.
- 2:37Who has brought this disaster on tire.
- 2:40What great creator of kingdoms? Her traders were all princes.
- 2:45Her merchants were nobles. The Lord of Heaven's armies has
- 2:50done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth's
- 2:54nobility. Come people of Tashish sweep
- 2:59over the land like the flooding Nile, for Tyre is defenseless.
- 3:04The Lord held out his hand over the sea and shook the kingdoms
- 3:09of the earth. He has spoken out against
- 3:12Phoenicia, ordering that her fortresses be destroyed.
- 3:17He says. Never again will you rejoice, O
- 3:21daughter of sit on, for you have been crushed.
- 3:25Even if you flee to Cyprus, you will find no rest.
- 3:29Look at the land of Babylonia. The people of that land are
- 3:34gone. The Assyrians have handed
- 3:37Babylon over to the wild animals of the desert.
- 3:40They have built siege ramps against its walls, torn down its
- 3:44palaces and turned it to a heap of rubble.
- 3:49Whale you ships of tarshish, for your harbor is destroyed.
- 3:54For 70 years, the length of a King's life tire will be
- 3:58forgotten. But then the city will come back
- 4:03to life, as in the song about the prostitute.
- 4:08Take a harp and walk the streets.
- 4:11You've forgotten harlot, make sweet melody and sing your songs
- 4:16so you will be remembered again. Yes, after 70 years the Lord
- 4:23will revive Tyre, but she will be no different than she was
- 4:28before. She will again be a prostitute
- 4:31to all kingdoms around the world, but in the end her
- 4:35prophets will be given to the Lord.
- 4:37Her wealth will not be hoarded. That will provide good food and
- 4:43fine clothing for the Lord's priests.
- 4:57Thank you, Jesus, for your provision for us today.
- 5:03You will clothe us. You will feed us.
- 5:07You will embrace us. You will warm us.
- 5:12Thank you for the many blessings you've placed around us in our
- 5:16lives. Help us to walk humbly through
- 5:20this life, always knowing that it is you who provides these
- 5:25good things to us. Thank you for the many
- 5:28celebrations and joys that we share, and when we hit the
- 5:32valleys, help us remember that there you are with your arms
- 5:37around us, leading us through. Always close.
- 5:42Always with your heart of love. Yours is a long, overarching
- 5:50story that is good and the ending for us is good.
- 5:55And we are so grateful that our lives, our ups and our downs
- 6:00exist in that overarching narrative of forgiveness and
- 6:04love and redemption. We just pray.
- 6:07All this in your name, Jesus, with hearts filled with
- 6:10gratitude. Amen.
