10 Downing Street Sends Mixed Signals on an Epstein Inquiry (8/7/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

• 0:00
Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. Over the past twenty four hours or so,
• 0:07
Speaker 1: we've received some conflicting reports out of the UK about
• 0:11
Speaker 1: whether or not they're going to hold a public inquiry
• 0:15
Speaker 1: into Jeffrey Epstein's crimes. The Justice Minister Jake Richards said
• 0:21
Speaker 1: on Wednesday that the new government over in the UK
• 0:24
Speaker 1: was looking very seriously into holding a possible public inquiry,
• 0:29
Speaker 1: but almost directly on the heels of that comment, ten
• 0:32
Speaker 1: Downing Street came out and set the record straight, saying
• 0:36
Speaker 1: that there's no plans at least as of now, to
• 0:39
Speaker 1: hold a public inquiry. So in this episode, we're going
• 0:42
Speaker 1: to dive into an article from The Independent talking a
• 0:45
Speaker 1: little bit more about what's currently going on as far
• 0:48
Speaker 1: as the public inquiry over in the UK into the
• 0:51
Speaker 1: crimes of Jeffrey Epstein. Headline Andy Burnham insists no plans
• 0:57
Speaker 1: for Epstein inquiry, hours after two ministers to say the
• 1:00
Speaker 1: government is looking into it. This article was authored by
• 1:04
Speaker 1: Athena Stavreau and Kate Devlin. Andy Burnham is not actively
• 1:09
Speaker 1: considering public inquiry into the actions of disgrace convicted pedophile
• 1:14
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein. On UK soil. Despite two ministers saying the
• 1:17
Speaker 1: government is looking into it, Victims Minister Alex Davies Jones
• 1:23
Speaker 1: is taking the issue very seriously, as she told BBC
• 1:26
Speaker 1: Newsnight that she had agreed to meet with Epstein victims
• 1:29
Speaker 1: and is looking into a possible inquiry. Justice Minister Jake
• 1:34
Speaker 1: Richards then said on Wednesday morning that it was right
• 1:38
Speaker 1: that we look into what we can and that mister
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Burnham will look into it. But it's now understood that
• 1:45
Speaker 1: a public inquiry is not being actively considered by Number
• 1:48
Speaker 1: ten and that's basically the White House over in the UK,
• 1:53
Speaker 1: and when they say number ten, that's what they're referring to.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: Miss Davies Jones resigned as Justice Minister in May, noting
• 2:00
Speaker 1: a lack of bold radical action under a former Prime Minister,
• 2:04
Speaker 1: Sir Cua Stormer, but returned to the role when mister
• 2:07
Speaker 1: Burnham took office. She told the BBC that before joining
• 2:12
Speaker 1: mister Burnham's government, she'd received assurances that he'd put victims first.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: I was having multiple conversations with him and his team.
• 2:19
Speaker 1: Miss Davies Jones said he agreed to meet with the
• 2:22
Speaker 1: Epstein victims. He was in close contact with them throughout
• 2:25
Speaker 1: the period where he was becoming Prime minister, and he
• 2:28
Speaker 1: has assured me that he will meet them now that
• 2:31
Speaker 1: he's Prime Minister and will work with us to look
• 2:34
Speaker 1: at systemic change across the system for all victims, whether
• 2:37
Speaker 1: that be victims of Epstein Harad survivors or grooming gang's victims. Well,
• 2:43
Speaker 1: isn't that nice because that grooming gang issue needs to
• 2:46
Speaker 1: be dealt with too. And don't even get me started
• 2:50
Speaker 1: on al fay Ed. The allegations that were made against
• 2:54
Speaker 1: that dude that were swept under the rug basically for
• 2:57
Speaker 1: all those years, they all need to be looked into
• 3:01
Speaker 1: because it looks like mister Mohammed al Fayed was a
• 3:05
Speaker 1: prolific abuser. A potential inquiry into claims against Mohammed al Fayed,
• 3:12
Speaker 1: the former owner of Herod's, who died in twenty twenty three,
• 3:15
Speaker 1: is also under review. And you notice over in the
• 3:18
Speaker 1: UK they wait for these dudes to die. I mean,
• 3:21
Speaker 1: look at Jimmy Saville. Nobody wanted to talk about what
• 3:24
Speaker 1: he was doing while he was alive, but once he died, oh,
• 3:28
Speaker 1: everybody wanted to pile on. The Truth is people knew
• 3:31
Speaker 1: he was a degenerate and they didn't care. And the
• 3:34
Speaker 1: same goes for mister Mohammed al Fayed and certainly for
• 3:39
Speaker 1: the scumbag Jeffrey Epstein. More than four hundred allegations of
• 3:45
Speaker 1: sexual misconduct have been made against al Fayed, dating back
• 3:48
Speaker 1: from nineteen seventy seven and twenty fourteen. Now, does anybody
• 3:52
Speaker 1: on the planet believe that nobody ever reported him, nobody
• 3:56
Speaker 1: ever punched it up the chain of command at work
• 3:59
Speaker 1: at Herod's that mister Mohammed al Fayed was an absolute
• 4:03
Speaker 1: piece of shit. Of course they did. It was ignored.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: And why was it ignored, Well, because Mohammed al Fayed
• 4:10
Speaker 1: was paying the bills. You see. They include sexual assault, rape,
• 4:15
Speaker 1: sexual exploitation and human trafficking. The met Police are speaking
• 4:19
Speaker 1: to at least one hundred and fifty six victims who
• 4:21
Speaker 1: contacted them directly, including twenty one who came forward before
• 4:26
Speaker 1: al Fayed's death at the age of ninety four. Asked
• 4:29
Speaker 1: if a public inquiry was on the table, Miss Davies
• 4:32
Speaker 1: Jones said, we're looking into this, we're reviewing what's possible.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: Same with Harad survivors. Well, if they want to just
• 4:40
Speaker 1: do a gigantic inquiry and cover all these bases. That's cool,
• 4:44
Speaker 1: that'll work, in my opinion. What's unacceptable is doing nothing.
• 4:49
Speaker 1: At least have this committee and bring witnesses up and
• 4:51
Speaker 1: see what they have to say. We already have a
• 4:54
Speaker 1: now statutory inquiry under way for the grooming gang's victims.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: I've been assured that the Prime Minister is taking this
• 5:01
Speaker 1: very seriously. Well, where have we heard that before? Not
• 5:05
Speaker 1: exactly the first time somebody has told us that they're
• 5:07
Speaker 1: going to take this seriously and then get into a
• 5:09
Speaker 1: position of power and do nothing. Now we haven't reached
• 5:13
Speaker 1: that point here yet, but I have my suspicions about
• 5:17
Speaker 1: how serious they're going to be when it comes to
• 5:19
Speaker 1: justice for people that were abused by people like Epstein
• 5:23
Speaker 1: or Muhammed al Fayed. And look, that's because we live
• 5:29
Speaker 1: in a world that is largely unjust, and I'm sure
• 5:33
Speaker 1: that's not breaking news to most people out there. He
• 5:35
Speaker 1: will meet with the victims and he's looking at what
• 5:38
Speaker 1: is possible now that he has access to all the
• 5:40
Speaker 1: information as Prime minister, to see what action he can take.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: She continued, What more can we do to truly make
• 5:48
Speaker 1: sure that our criminal justice system is taking victims seriously,
• 5:52
Speaker 1: that they can rebuild that faith and trust in the
• 5:55
Speaker 1: system again. Good luck. And I won't pretend to be
• 6:00
Speaker 1: some kind of expert on what's going on over in
• 6:02
Speaker 1: the UK, because I'm certainly not. But I know that
• 6:05
Speaker 1: the trust here in America when it comes to the
• 6:07
Speaker 1: institutions has been completely eroded away. And some of that
• 6:14
Speaker 1: is the cause of a demoralization campaign being run against
• 6:17
Speaker 1: Americans that means you, but a lot of it is
• 6:20
Speaker 1: the responsibility of the institutions themselves from lying, being deceitful,
• 6:26
Speaker 1: and not doing what they say they're going to do.
• 6:29
Speaker 1: So can you blame people for not trusting them or
• 6:32
Speaker 1: trusting the outcome? And once that happens in society, it
• 6:36
Speaker 1: leads to bad things. And if we don't get our
• 6:38
Speaker 1: shit together soon, we're all going to have a front
• 6:40
Speaker 1: row seat to just how bad things can get. Justice
• 6:43
Speaker 1: Minister Jake Richards confirmed that potential inquiry on Wednesday, telling
• 6:47
Speaker 1: Sky News, well, I know that Alex and the victim
• 6:50
Speaker 1: Minister had discussions with the Prime Minister about it. It's
• 6:53
Speaker 1: right that we look into what we can do. No
• 6:56
Speaker 1: stone should be left unturned when we consider these horrific
• 6:59
Speaker 1: crimes that it seem to have happened at huge scale.
• 7:02
Speaker 1: The Prime Minister will look into it. Well that's nice,
• 7:07
Speaker 1: but what's he going to do after he looks into it.
• 7:09
Speaker 1: That's what really matters. Plenty of people have told us, yeah,
• 7:13
Speaker 1: we're going to take a look at this, we're going
• 7:14
Speaker 1: to make sure that people that were responsible, people that
• 7:17
Speaker 1: were involved are held accountable, only to end up getting
• 7:21
Speaker 1: shit on every single time. And if you think you're frustrated,
• 7:25
Speaker 1: if you think you're upset, can you imagine how the
• 7:28
Speaker 1: survivors feel Time and time again. People tell them, oh,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: we hear you, we care about you, only to ignore
• 7:36
Speaker 1: them when the chips are down and there's nothing else
• 7:38
Speaker 1: you can call that but cowardice, right, because that's what
• 7:42
Speaker 1: it is, straight up cowardice. He'll take his time, no doubt,
• 7:46
Speaker 1: to think about the best route for victims, but also
• 7:49
Speaker 1: to crucially ensure lessons are learned, to make sure that
• 7:52
Speaker 1: these sorts of things never happen again. Jess Phillips, the
• 7:55
Speaker 1: former Minister for Safeguarding and Violence against Women and Girls
• 7:59
Speaker 1: who resign from cure ter Starmer's government, accusing him of
• 8:01
Speaker 1: failing to take bold action, told The Independent she wanted
• 8:05
Speaker 1: to see an inquiry saying there's a level of impunity
• 8:08
Speaker 1: that appears to have been afforded to some men with
• 8:11
Speaker 1: power and money, where parts of the British state were
• 8:14
Speaker 1: used to enable mass trafficking and abuse of young women
• 8:17
Speaker 1: and girls. The victims deserve answers, They most certainly do. Unfortunately,
• 8:23
Speaker 1: I don't think we're going to get them, at least
• 8:25
Speaker 1: not to the level that provides the clarity that we need. Look,
• 8:30
Speaker 1: the Justice Department, the UK, all these governing bodies have
• 8:35
Speaker 1: one option here if they want to regain the trust
• 8:37
Speaker 1: of the people, and that is full transparency, and we
• 8:41
Speaker 1: all know that's not going to happen. Epstein's survivor, Lisa Phillips,
• 8:47
Speaker 1: told the BBC she hoped for a meeting with mister
• 8:49
Speaker 1: Burnham would mark the beginning of a new chapter, one
• 8:52
Speaker 1: where survivors are heard, lessons are learned, institutions are held accountable,
• 8:57
Speaker 1: where appropriate and lasting reforms help protect future generations, not
• 9:02
Speaker 1: asking for too much, God forbid, somebody that was abused
• 9:07
Speaker 1: asked for some reform. The BBC reports, Leading labor campaigners
• 9:12
Speaker 1: on violence against women and girls sent mister Burnham a
• 9:15
Speaker 1: document calling for an impunity inquiry investigating the UK activities
• 9:20
Speaker 1: of Epstein, the alleged behavior of Al Fayed, and allegations
• 9:24
Speaker 1: of sexual misconduct against west Ham co owner David Sullivan.
• 9:28
Speaker 1: Mister Sullivan was accused of sexually exploitative and predatory behavior
• 9:33
Speaker 1: by seven women during a joint investigation by BBC's Panorama
• 9:37
Speaker 1: The Times into the seventy seven year old businessman. Now,
• 9:41
Speaker 1: to be honest, I don't know enough about that man's
• 9:43
Speaker 1: allegations to give you an opinion one wire or the other,
• 9:47
Speaker 1: but this is what's being alleged. Mister Sullivan, west Ham's
• 9:51
Speaker 1: largest shareholder, stood down as joint chair of the club
• 9:54
Speaker 1: shortly before the investigation was broadcast in June, saying he
• 9:58
Speaker 1: wanted to focus on fighting what he he called factually
• 10:00
Speaker 1: incorrect and entirely false decades old allegations concerning my personal life.
• 10:07
Speaker 1: The document reportedly calls for the scope of any Epstein
• 10:10
Speaker 1: inquiry to focus on UK borders and question how he
• 10:13
Speaker 1: was able to fly in and out of UK military
• 10:16
Speaker 1: bases on his private jet, often with women who had
• 10:19
Speaker 1: allegedly been trafficked. Well, I'd love to see that. I
• 10:24
Speaker 1: would love to see the UK kick that off. Do
• 10:26
Speaker 1: I have confidence that it's gonna happen. No, I do not,
• 10:30
Speaker 1: But as usual we'll continue to follow along and when
• 10:34
Speaker 1: we have some information one way or the other will
• 10:37
Speaker 1: get it added to the catalog. All the information that
• 10:40
Speaker 1: goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
