- 1:09Speaker 1: my dog Joey Badass.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yes, sure you are.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You are currently man. First of all, I gotta say
- 1:15Speaker 1: dog like, you know, when we have these conversations, There's
- 1:20Speaker 1: been a lot of conversations about New York Top fifty
- 1:23Speaker 1: and you know, just I feel like the conversations recently
- 1:29Speaker 1: about hip hop, I feel like have been in the
- 1:31Speaker 1: right space, people debating about who's the great. But I
- 1:34Speaker 1: gotta give your flowers off the writ man. I feel
- 1:36Speaker 1: like when we talk about like the last fifteen years,
- 1:41Speaker 1: because twenty twelve was thirteen years ago. Yeah, you are
- 1:46Speaker 1: one of the ghosts. Brother, appreciate that, Yes, sir, Man, Yes, sir.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you know people don't know man, I know you
- 1:54Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Yeah. You could go on YouTube and you can see
- 1:57Speaker 1: me on the bus when him and ABSO was on tour,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and I remember that was in Phoenix and then in
- 2:03Speaker 1: Tampa and I'll be pulling out. I remember listening to
- 2:07Speaker 1: Before the Money, like fuck a year before it came out,
- 2:09Speaker 1: some of those records, like you know.
- 2:10Speaker 2: What's the great thing about that? If you missed when
- 2:14Speaker 2: me as show was on tour, like if you missed it,
- 2:17Speaker 2: if you wasn't able to attend back in twenty thirteen,
- 2:19Speaker 2: We're going back on tour this year, so stay tuned
- 2:23Speaker 2: for that. I love that.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So, yeah, can you give me because you guys obviously
- 2:27Speaker 1: have such a long relationship, long friendship and one of
- 2:31Speaker 1: the purest, dopest moments in recent memory. I think about
- 2:38Speaker 1: Jada kissing the verses and then fast forward. I got
- 2:42Speaker 1: that same feeling as a fan when you Big Sean
- 2:45Speaker 1: and absoluted the Red Bull cipher. Yet, what was the
- 2:49Speaker 1: communication like with you in Seoul when you were like, yo,
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know, we gotta do something Like what was that?
- 2:54Speaker 1: What was that like?
- 2:55Speaker 3: First of all, man shout out to my soul brother,
- 2:58Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like me and so go
- 3:01Speaker 3: way back, and it's really deeper than rap with us,
- 3:06Speaker 3: you know what I mean. Like I met I met
- 3:09Speaker 3: so Kendrick q Jay rock Oland when I was like sixteen,
- 3:14Speaker 3: you know, because when they used to come out to
- 3:16Speaker 3: New York, they used to mess.
- 3:18Speaker 2: With my manager, Like my manager would hold them down.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Johnny Ships, who's my manager at the time, He used
- 3:24Speaker 3: to hold them down. So I remember literally like it
- 3:26Speaker 3: was one day after school. He's like, yo, pull it
- 3:29Speaker 3: to the studio and we was already tapped in with them.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And it's interesting because as so was my entry to TD.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I remember the first thing that I saw was to
- 3:40Speaker 3: turn me up song and video. It's future in ketchick Lamar.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Actually yeah. And I remember seeing av Soul and just
- 3:48Speaker 2: being like, damn, like I ain't never seen nothing like
- 3:52Speaker 2: this in this modern time, like a rapper like him.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Like the swag that he had, the wittiness, the cleverness,
- 3:58Speaker 3: and I would just I was just like really into it,
- 4:02Speaker 3: you know what I mean. I thought I thought at
- 4:03Speaker 3: this time, I thought Kendrick was cool, but I thought
- 4:05Speaker 3: Ad was like the star, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And then uh, you.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Know, one thing led to another and then you know,
- 4:12Speaker 3: me going down that wrap a hole listening to as
- 4:15Speaker 3: So he had more songs with Kendrick, and then I
- 4:17Speaker 3: got into Kendrick and Kendrick got me into Q and
- 4:19Speaker 3: I saw they had the Black Kapy joint. So the
- 4:21Speaker 3: fast forward back the I want to say this was
- 4:24Speaker 3: twenty eleven. You know, my manager at the time, Shipes
- 4:28Speaker 3: told us to come to the studio and it's funny
- 4:31Speaker 3: because you know, solely even said it on the post
- 4:35Speaker 3: battle record and he dropped and it was like, yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 3: these little niggas on skateboards.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm like, fast, that's how we met, you know what
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm saying. We came through that business. It was singing.
- 4:43Speaker 3: We all had our boards on us, and we just
- 4:46Speaker 3: sat there and just was kind of observing the process
- 4:49Speaker 3: and you know, long behold like we was definitely soaking
- 4:52Speaker 3: up game for sure, you know what I mean. And
- 4:56Speaker 3: fast forward a couple more years later, you know, we
- 4:58Speaker 3: did the tour together and the Bonds and you know,
- 5:02Speaker 3: everything strengthened the sea.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Smokers Club. But before that, we got in the studio.
- 5:06Speaker 3: We did Into the Void yep and all that, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: that was like the first time that we really hung out.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Like you know, when I met them.
- 5:12Speaker 3: At first, it was just kind of like, all right,
- 5:14Speaker 3: we flies on the wall, they doing they thing.
- 5:17Speaker 2: But then Sola and I got in the studio.
- 5:20Speaker 3: We did the End of the Void joint from twenty twelve,
- 5:23Speaker 3: and then after that, like you know, we was just
- 5:25Speaker 3: pretty much locked in and a lot of the ideologies
- 5:28Speaker 3: and the mindset was the same, you know what I mean,
- 5:31Speaker 3: so we we connected and Sole even mestige before he passed.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And then you know after that, like Sol got the
- 5:39Speaker 3: forty seven tattered. So best friend and brother Doe Burger,
- 5:45Speaker 3: who was on the tour with us too, at twenty thirteen,
- 5:47Speaker 3: they both got the full seventh tattered. So you know,
- 5:50Speaker 3: this brotherhood runs deep. It runs way deeper than people
- 5:55Speaker 3: may know or people made think. Shit, this is a
- 5:57Speaker 3: video of me and so back at twenty thirty team
- 6:00Speaker 3: on the internet of us getting arrested together at Saint Louis.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And miss on the tour.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Here Doe broke in the back like, hey, free, soul
- 6:09Speaker 2: free Joe.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Hey scary, scary random city to get arrested.
- 6:12Speaker 2: To nah for sure because this is like right after
- 6:14Speaker 2: the Michael Brown shit happen.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy because in the video it's like, yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 3: I can say this now, but I was I was
- 6:21Speaker 3: off shrooms, so it's like I'm getting they putting the
- 6:24Speaker 3: handcuffs on me, and I just think it's the funniest
- 6:27Speaker 3: shit ever. And I'm talking to the comp like, yo,
- 6:29Speaker 3: have you figured out why I'm in these handcuffs?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Why were you bro?
- 6:33Speaker 3: Because we were walking around the hotel that that we
- 6:35Speaker 3: rented out while black.
- 6:38Speaker 2: That was it.
- 6:39Speaker 3: You know, somebody tipped off the police that I guess
- 6:43Speaker 3: they throw some suspicious dudes was walking around the hotel.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And like, bro, it wasn't even like it was a
- 6:48Speaker 2: fucking four seasons. It was like a best lestern. It's like,
- 6:51Speaker 2: what the fuck we going? You know what I'm saying.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Cos pulled up and he was just mad.
- 6:55Speaker 3: He had the KNA in the back and he was like, hey,
- 6:58Speaker 3: you see that k y'all literally was to cut.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, man, like you need a hug because
- 7:04Speaker 2: you was just so mad.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I'm like, yo.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Monument and that was the shooms though.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and then you're like trying to like, but yo,
- 7:11Speaker 3: go beat that video though it's a classic. Every now
- 7:13Speaker 3: and again, I always go back and watch it. It's
- 7:16Speaker 3: just it's just such a funny moment to me, you
- 7:18Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. And so just over there like Joey,
- 7:21Speaker 3: shut up the chill.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So what's your guys' discussion with each other going into this.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Ready for.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah? So okay, so we got the so so Red
- 7:37Speaker 2: Bull reached out to.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Me and it was kind of like, you know, on
- 7:42Speaker 3: me to pick who I wanted to you know, do
- 7:44Speaker 3: the cipher with or whatever. So you know, so came
- 7:48Speaker 3: to my mind verse and then were trying to find
- 7:51Speaker 3: the third person and then somebody said big Sean like, yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 3: perfect so that you know, so hit my line like
- 7:57Speaker 3: right away, like you know, we was both He's like, yo,
- 7:59Speaker 3: you know, we gotta make a movie out of this joint.
- 8:01Speaker 3: This at a third and you know, we went back
- 8:03Speaker 3: and forth like a couple of ideas that were just
- 8:06Speaker 3: gonna do, and he was like, Yo, we should kind
- 8:09Speaker 3: of just.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Like all like battle with each other in.
- 8:12Speaker 3: A way like you know what I'm saying, like on
- 8:14Speaker 3: some own friendly, fading type of joint.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, I love that. That's genius.
- 8:19Speaker 3: So when I heard soul verse, I was like, oh, okay,
- 8:21Speaker 3: you know what, I'm glad he took that approach because
- 8:24Speaker 3: you know, he mentioned Ray, he mentioned Day, and I'm like,
- 8:28Speaker 3: I hadn't give it a direct response, had to talk.
- 8:31Speaker 3: So I'm like, you know what, this is the perfect
- 8:33Speaker 3: opportunity to kind of speak on it, like Soula's head.
- 8:36Speaker 3: And then we just kind of went in it with that,
- 8:39Speaker 3: and then you know, Sean did his thing as well,
- 8:42Speaker 3: and you know, I got I gotta I gotta give
- 8:44Speaker 3: a lot of credit to so for it because he
- 8:47Speaker 3: kind of masterminded it in a way, you know what
- 8:49Speaker 3: I mean, where.
- 8:50Speaker 2: He was just like, Yo, this is the move, Like
- 8:52Speaker 2: trust me, we should do it like this boy boy.
- 8:54Speaker 3: And I was just like, you know, I even hesitate,
- 8:57Speaker 3: like I just I just kind of followed this leader.
- 8:58Speaker 3: And I'm glad we did because you know, look at
- 9:00Speaker 3: the outcome, and I think it was beautiful to just
- 9:03Speaker 3: kind of showcase that we could we could have a
- 9:07Speaker 3: moment like that in twenty twenty five, like this is
- 9:09Speaker 3: hip hop and that's the type of shit, like even
- 9:12Speaker 3: at being decipher, you know what I'm saying that you
- 9:14Speaker 3: got these three prolific artists here and showcasing something that
- 9:19Speaker 3: is the true essence of what hip hop is. It's
- 9:23Speaker 3: like we get in there and we all trying to
- 9:25Speaker 3: whip each other's as well. We all trying to you know, compete,
- 9:28Speaker 3: We all trying to say the slickest shit.
- 9:30Speaker 2: It was just beautiful. Man.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Shout out the shoul shout out the Big Sean, shout
- 9:34Speaker 3: out the redel, shout the hip hop.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I'm assuming you didn't have any sort of heads up
- 9:38Speaker 1: on any like you heard his ship for the first time,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and when when you guys recorded it, his his his
- 9:46Speaker 1: Like did you did you.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Guys this out now? No?
- 9:49Speaker 3: I didn't hear shit for the first time recorded it,
- 9:51Speaker 3: and he didn't hit my ship for the first time
- 9:53Speaker 3: when we recorded it neither, the big shofe.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Right, So the night before, you know, there was like
- 9:59Speaker 2: this world read that you.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Know, maybe we wouldn't you know, maybe maybe maybe somebody
- 10:07Speaker 3: would have been able to memorize their line. So we
- 10:09Speaker 3: went to Sean Cribb and we recorded it as a
- 10:11Speaker 3: track first, just to kind of like go over like,
- 10:15Speaker 3: you know, just kind of saying to you when he
- 10:17Speaker 3: got there.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know that makes sense. But at that
- 10:19Speaker 2: moment we did that, I was like, the other guys
- 10:23Speaker 2: that's going here?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 10:25Speaker 2: You know, and we'll get to that. But I'm like,
- 10:27Speaker 2: you know, the other guys that's going here. Because we
- 10:29Speaker 2: recorded that in March, it ain't come out to what
- 10:32Speaker 2: was that late main early May or something like that,
- 10:35Speaker 2: So I'm.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Like, that's kind of do I mean, yeah, I mean
- 10:39Speaker 1: that it took two months to drop and it didn't
- 10:41Speaker 1: get out.
- 10:42Speaker 2: There so yeah, I mean, it adn't get out there
- 10:44Speaker 2: to the public.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But everybody kind of knew what was coming here.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yeah, they heard what was said, you know what I'm
- 10:50Speaker 3: saying and anything. So I already knew. I smelled the lineup.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I was like, all right, if I'm them and I
- 10:58Speaker 3: and I got this intel and I heard the ship.
- 11:00Speaker 3: What Joey said before to me, I'm gonna be ready
- 11:04Speaker 3: as soon as the ship dropped and so and sure enough,
- 11:06Speaker 3: that's what it was.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So it's it's funny too because I think about kind
- 11:14Speaker 1: of like the timeline because you had originally said the
- 11:17Speaker 1: line that got everybody's tannies in a bunch on the
- 11:20Speaker 1: West coast, and was it January?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yep, Genuary first to be exact. Uh so top of
- 11:26Speaker 2: the year shooting and their for New Year's right.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And so you know that's a yeah. Everybody from La
- 11:34Speaker 1: you know, kind of took that as a nice opportunity
- 11:37Speaker 1: to get, you know, to get their ship off.
- 11:39Speaker 4: You know.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Uh, it brought a lot of eyes to a lot
- 11:41Speaker 1: of dope people like my, my, my, my bros. The
- 11:44Speaker 1: Coyotes did their freestyle. I don't know if you've seen
- 11:46Speaker 1: the Mexican Brothers, Coyote from La they did their ship
- 11:49Speaker 1: towards you, but they're they're fucking incredibly they actually worked.
- 11:52Speaker 2: With shipes but seeing but it was so many people.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But anybody who's like a hip hop fan knows that
- 11:59Speaker 1: that's a og Hove line, right right. And so it did.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I mean, it made I mean, I guess when you
- 12:07Speaker 1: put that into that record and you kind of you
- 12:10Speaker 1: had any idea that, yeah, I'm paying I'm paying how
- 12:13Speaker 1: much to hope, but I also know this is gonna
- 12:16Speaker 1: this might ruffle uh.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Like, I didn't think that it was gonna ruffle feathers
- 12:24Speaker 2: to the degree of which you're roughly feathers, you know.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I was really more honed than on the fact that like, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know what, maybe some people be confused, but I
- 12:34Speaker 3: expected that if they did, they researched and they would know,
- 12:38Speaker 3: you know, what my tide to the West was and
- 12:41Speaker 3: be able to be like, okay, yeah, like you.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Give people a lot of credit pe point nah, No,
- 12:45Speaker 1: for sure.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And I said it.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I said it, you know, like, you know, maybe that
- 12:48Speaker 3: was a misstep on my part, was thinking that, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 3: people wouldn't get offended by that, because truthfully, I didn't
- 12:55Speaker 3: think it would be to that degree, So I admit
- 12:58Speaker 3: if that was a miss step, but just for me
- 13:00Speaker 3: from an attention standpoint, like it was very playful, right,
- 13:05Speaker 3: But I think the main point was that my understanding
- 13:09Speaker 3: is when it comes to the West Coast and my
- 13:14Speaker 3: ties to the West Coast, we just talked about it
- 13:18Speaker 3: like this is ten years d you know what I'm saying.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So if anybody been supporting and rocking with the West
- 13:25Speaker 3: and what we just saw from the West, it's been
- 13:28Speaker 3: Joe from day zero, you know what I mean. So
- 13:33Speaker 3: a lot of the referring to the too much West
- 13:37Speaker 3: Coast dicklicking is all the new fucking band wagoners.
- 13:40Speaker 2: What the fuck was y'all at?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Because I've been here and I'm seeing a lot of
- 13:44Speaker 3: people now jump shit and now all of a sudden
- 13:47Speaker 3: is oh, it's this, But I've been here.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Though, you know. And on top of that point, it's
- 13:53Speaker 2: like I think.
- 13:54Speaker 3: It was a lot of sensitivity because I'm a New
- 13:57Speaker 3: York nigga, Yeah, Brooklyn nigga, And that's just how we talk.
- 14:00Speaker 3: We'll say that about our own man's, like we'll walk
- 14:02Speaker 3: away from my man's having a moment because we feel
- 14:05Speaker 3: like niggas is dick riding and you can say whatever
- 14:07Speaker 3: you want to say about this. That's not saying personally
- 14:09Speaker 3: y'all do right right now. Yeah, it's just the nature
- 14:12Speaker 3: of like East Coast New York niggas. You know what
- 14:14Speaker 3: I'm saying, Like niggas dick ridding. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 14:16Speaker 3: but it's not like us hating. It's just like I'm
- 14:19Speaker 3: not going to participating to dick riding. It's just I
- 14:22Speaker 3: ain't doing that, you know what I mean. But the
- 14:24Speaker 3: main point is that though it's like, Yo, who the
- 14:27Speaker 3: fuck is y'all niggas? This ship been going down for
- 14:30Speaker 3: a long time.
- 14:32Speaker 1: It's crazy to hear. The main intent of that line
- 14:34Speaker 1: was to kind of the opposite of how people took it,
- 14:39Speaker 1: like yo, y'all dick riding the West Coast. But I've
- 14:43Speaker 1: been supporting this shit ain't new And it's like, walcome
- 14:46Speaker 1: to the party.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Almost record is there? Yeah, I just ain't just talking
- 14:50Speaker 3: on my ass. It's like you could you could go
- 14:53Speaker 3: do the research. It's only look at me, and I'm
- 14:56Speaker 3: so getting the rested. In twenty thirteen, Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You know, I feel like people there's a lot of
- 15:01Speaker 1: like surface level new fans of hip hop that don't
- 15:05Speaker 1: understand the really like the roots of you know, Schoolboy
- 15:10Speaker 1: Q and Asam Rocky and Macniller and you and ab
- 15:13Speaker 1: Soul and just that that synergy that's always been there
- 15:16Speaker 1: between TDE and New York. It's always been.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Bro you know.
- 15:22Speaker 3: And I think I can't remember who said it. I
- 15:24Speaker 3: think it was Kendrick when he had linked up with Ferg.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Shout out to Ferg, it's my brother. But there was
- 15:31Speaker 3: a video they was having a dialogue and he was
- 15:34Speaker 3: telling Ferg. He's like, yeah, like you know, back in
- 15:37Speaker 3: the day, we had to come to New York and
- 15:40Speaker 3: a lot of people thought that we was from New York.
- 15:43Speaker 3: This is what Kendrick was saying, Like they thought that
- 15:45Speaker 3: they was from New York because you know.
- 15:46Speaker 2: The sound and.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Everything, and I mean they weren't being as embraced back home.
- 15:52Speaker 1: For sure.
- 15:53Speaker 3: It was this side who was embracing the movement one
- 15:56Speaker 3: hundred percent, you know what I'm saying. So yeah, you
- 15:58Speaker 3: know it was it was a little refusing to me
- 16:00Speaker 3: to see people, you know, take it like that. But
- 16:03Speaker 3: like I said, man, I'm free game, I'm a public
- 16:06Speaker 3: figure and I think it was an opportunity for people,
- 16:10Speaker 3: and if I was on that side, I'd see that.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I'd see it as an opportunity as well, and I
- 16:14Speaker 3: would take it. And I think it was It was
- 16:16Speaker 3: good at the end of the day for the culture.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you know what came out of that
- 16:21Speaker 1: cipher was obviously kind of straighted all back up, and
- 16:24Speaker 1: we got like two weeks straight up, just like I mean,
- 16:28Speaker 1: you were fucking dropping dog like and the knickxer and
- 16:31Speaker 1: in playoff and you know, uh, you know, shout out
- 16:36Speaker 1: to Rayvaughn for for stepping up to the you know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: stepping up to the moment and and being on top
- 16:41Speaker 1: of them in daylight everybody. Yeah. I had to show
- 16:46Speaker 1: Rayvon when we were walking into the studio because you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: on one of his dishes he said that you ain't
- 16:49Speaker 1: got no plan. So when we walked in, I said,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I gotta devastated plaque in my hallway. I said, hey, hey,
- 16:55Speaker 1: ray you see what that is? I said, Joey badass plaque.
- 16:57Speaker 1: It says platinum, that is man.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, And it's funny too because that was
- 17:03Speaker 3: like probably one of the reoccurring lines that he was
- 17:07Speaker 3: using and I was like.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Should I readbut this?
- 17:10Speaker 3: Like I'm literally sitting in my studio recording the shit
- 17:13Speaker 3: and this blacks all on the wall, you know what
- 17:15Speaker 3: I mean. But I'm like, uh, I feel like if
- 17:18Speaker 3: I rebuttle this, it's like it's like it affected me
- 17:22Speaker 3: or something like that, you know what I mean.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So I was just like, whatever, you know, your friend?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Are you with that? You you? The funniest thing that
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think came out of this was the td East
- 17:33Speaker 1: website and you trademarking TD east.
- 17:38Speaker 2: The top though.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Obviously, yeah, what so does Top reach out to you?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Do you give it? Like like because obviously you guys
- 17:45Speaker 1: have a relationship absolutely And it was funny and you
- 17:50Speaker 1: had to go get the record on go to TDS
- 17:51Speaker 1: dot com and it's right there. What was the thought
- 17:54Speaker 1: process with that? And was there any like recon to
- 17:57Speaker 1: make sure like, hey, are we good?
- 17:59Speaker 2: Right?
- 17:59Speaker 1: We're good?
- 18:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:02Speaker 3: It definitely was, you know what I mean. Like Top
- 18:06Speaker 3: definitely hit me after the td S thing and he
- 18:08Speaker 3: was just like, Yo, that is hilarious.
- 18:10Speaker 2: That is genius.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I'm like that shit kind of got a ring to it, right,
- 18:13Speaker 3: and he like, yeah, really do I'm like we might
- 18:15Speaker 3: have to have a conversation for real, but not at
- 18:19Speaker 3: a point in the beginning. It was definitely like because
- 18:23Speaker 3: after I dropped the rulers back and I've seen the response,
- 18:26Speaker 3: Like I definitely hit a few of my people over
- 18:28Speaker 3: on that side, like I hit Soul, I hit top.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, like, how y'all feeling you know what
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'm saying. I have to just check the temperature real quick.
- 18:36Speaker 3: And everybody was like nah, like you know, we know
- 18:38Speaker 3: where you're coming from, Like we always love this that
- 18:40Speaker 3: and the I'm like, okay, cool, because that's what I assume.
- 18:43Speaker 3: But you know, there's people who don't know that, or
- 18:46Speaker 3: who don't know the synergy that exists between us, who
- 18:49Speaker 3: you know, was taking it a whole different way.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Hey, we gotta wrap up this interview another one presented
- 18:54Speaker 1: by hard Dann. Baby you already know what it is.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Shout out to Hardin for presenting another episode of the

- 19:13Speaker 1: terps mean. It's incredible. Go to Harden Underscore Las Vegas.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Shoot them a follow and when you're in Las Vegas
- 19:18Speaker 1: and make sure you shoot them a visit. Hey, don't
- 19:20Speaker 1: forget to go to bootleg keV dot com. You know,
- 19:22Speaker 1: we had to celebrate the two year anniversary of the
- 19:24Speaker 1: most viral interview of all time. Throw the shirt up
- 19:26Speaker 1: so you could see it. I turned it down. Shout
- 19:28Speaker 1: out to that boy, Big Boogie, a big college in Jacksonville,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and we just threw these on sale half off for
- 19:35Speaker 1: the five hundred episode t Bootleg keV dot com. Go
- 19:38Speaker 1: get you a shirt. Let's get back to the interview.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I know when I talked to Ray, he was saying
- 19:42Speaker 1: he was like Kendrick was hearing stuff before it was
- 19:45Speaker 1: coming out. He would like float it over to him.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I saw that, which is interesting.
- 19:51Speaker 2: You know, very interesting.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Any dialogue or anything between you and Kado during this entire.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Not direct, but so did tell me that, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 3: he salute and you know he loved what I was
- 20:04Speaker 3: doing and all that show told me that when you
- 20:06Speaker 3: ran into Kendrick at the at the show, God told
- 20:09Speaker 3: him to tell me.
- 20:10Speaker 2: That that stuff.
- 20:11Speaker 3: So yeah, you know it's it's like I said, like,
- 20:13Speaker 3: it's love and it's always been love, and yeah, you.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Know we're showing people that this is this is how
- 20:20Speaker 2: it was done.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I think that there's there's like this
- 20:24Speaker 1: gross like misunderstanding of hip hop history when people say
- 20:29Speaker 1: shit about your career and I'm like, hey, like, I
- 20:31Speaker 1: don't think you understand, Like, first of all, this is
- 20:34Speaker 1: somebody who came out of the blog era, you know
- 20:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying, somebody who really laid the foundation for
- 20:43Speaker 1: so much Like you know what I'm saying, Like, I
- 20:45Speaker 1: feel like you kind of you made it. You brought
- 20:49Speaker 1: like the shit we love to like a demographic that
- 20:52Speaker 1: didn't know that they loved it yet when you were
- 20:54Speaker 1: seventeen years old dropping nineteen ninety nine, you know what
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm saying, it was like it was it was one
- 20:58Speaker 1: of those real pivotal moments and hip hop Like. But yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 1: it's interesting because you know, I think that the one
- 21:04Speaker 1: thing with this Kendrick and Drake thing is that you know,
- 21:07Speaker 1: how do you feel about the results and and uh,
- 21:10Speaker 1: you know how it went down. It felt like there
- 21:13Speaker 1: was a bit of a page turning in the Book
- 21:16Speaker 1: of Hip Hop where people were paying attention to the
- 21:20Speaker 1: right ship again. And by that I mean like breaking
- 21:23Speaker 1: down records and like dissecting lyrics.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and uh, the lyrics have a have a
- 21:30Speaker 3: new found not a new found, but lyrics are like
- 21:34Speaker 3: important again.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I'd rather watch some random YouTuber breakdown you
- 21:41Speaker 1: and Ray Vaughn's bars or Kendrick's euphoria. Then I'd rather,
- 21:46Speaker 1: you know, watch a fucking some somebody breaking down what
- 21:50Speaker 1: happened with Julio Fulio and fucking Young and Ace. You know,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but do you like like that's my thing? Man? Is
- 21:57Speaker 1: is you know? You are very I always say this.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I say, you can't make timeless music unless you take
- 22:02Speaker 1: your time on it. And you are somebody who's always
- 22:06Speaker 1: taking your time when it comes to putting out music.
- 22:09Speaker 1: You're super intentional with it. Are like, are you inspired
- 22:14Speaker 1: right now? Because you are? You are in your bag.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I am so inspired.
- 22:19Speaker 3: I'm so inspired, And I'm glad you asked that question
- 22:22Speaker 3: because I always look at inspiration like this metaphorical bucket
- 22:28Speaker 3: that you always got, and it's not always full.
- 22:31Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Sometimes you run and lost. Sometimes it's just a drop
- 22:34Speaker 3: in there, and it's like kind of gotta wait and
- 22:36Speaker 3: let life happen and see, you know where you could
- 22:40Speaker 3: fill the bucket up at. And you know, right now
- 22:43Speaker 3: I gotta says minus minus Overflund, like I am so energized,
- 22:50Speaker 3: so inspired, so charged up.
- 22:53Speaker 2: You know, got this new album and I'm about to drop,
- 22:56Speaker 2: and I.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Got a lot of new music, a lot of new
- 22:59Speaker 3: music that I'm excited to share. And I just think that,
- 23:03Speaker 3: you know, even which is transpired, I feel like it
- 23:06Speaker 3: kind of opened up a new door for me where
- 23:09Speaker 3: I feel like my whole career I kind of had
- 23:13Speaker 3: people trying to box me and you know, tell me
- 23:18Speaker 3: what I couldn't do and set these parameters around my sound.
- 23:21Speaker 3: And I feel like now that Kate is open and
- 23:25Speaker 3: it's like, oh no, Like we actually want to see Joey.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Experiment right now. We want to see what else Joey
- 23:34Speaker 2: could do.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Because Joey has made his point of how well he
- 23:38Speaker 3: can rap. What else did joe get? Yeah, it's like,
- 23:41Speaker 3: you know, like we want to see Joey progress to
- 23:45Speaker 3: a new level. And I feel like I was kind
- 23:47Speaker 3: of it's the word I was like almost not allowed
- 23:53Speaker 3: to make certain sounds or to have certain attempts or
- 24:00Speaker 3: you know, go in certain directions because people just felt
- 24:04Speaker 3: like my sound should have been this one thing.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It's funny because I feel like I remember people not
- 24:09Speaker 1: loving Devastating. People had to Devastation, Like you're like, because
- 24:13Speaker 1: it wasn't but it's fucking and like what are we
- 24:16Speaker 1: talking about?
- 24:17Speaker 3: And you know what's funny? You know what Devastated taught me?
- 24:19Speaker 3: Because Devastated taught me the power of polarity. M Because
- 24:24Speaker 3: as much as people hated it, like you know, my Nichse,
- 24:27Speaker 3: my fan base, my core, there was a whole other
- 24:31Speaker 3: side that loved it, which was you know, more of
- 24:33Speaker 3: the casual listener, more the people who wasn't familiar familiar.
- 24:37Speaker 1: With me, and you gained new fans off that record.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:39Speaker 3: So, now when I'm faced with those type of records
- 24:43Speaker 3: that are polarizing, because you know, I have this really
- 24:46Speaker 3: clear process of how I share my music with, like
- 24:51Speaker 3: my trusted friends and individuals who airs our trust.
- 24:55Speaker 2: And now once I see that polarity on certain records,
- 24:58Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 24:59Speaker 5: That's the one. M hm, that's the one, you know.
- 25:02Speaker 5: So I'm excited. We are shooting outside in New Jersey.
- 25:06Speaker 5: So the bugs are bugging, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:07Speaker 5: But it's it's beautiful.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not just glitching.
- 25:10Speaker 1: No, no, no, there's some there are. Let's be clear,
- 25:12Speaker 1: We're going to have a couple of I mean, yeah, there's.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah, let's not wash it upon ourselves. For sure. The
- 25:18Speaker 2: bugs is bugging, for sure.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yo. I do want to touch on a record that
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think encapsulates a time period of hip hop that
- 25:31Speaker 1: you know, I have two eras that I was like
- 25:33Speaker 1: alive and like you know, I'm thirty eight, so I
- 25:36Speaker 1: was born in eighty seven, right, so you know I
- 25:40Speaker 1: remember I was a type of kid who would get
- 25:43Speaker 1: the source magazines and then go back and buy all
- 25:45Speaker 1: the five mic albums, you know what I mean, because
- 25:48Speaker 1: you know a lot of that ship I was five
- 25:49Speaker 1: six for you know, style was the first rap I
- 25:52Speaker 1: really fell in love with as like little ass kid,
- 25:54Speaker 1: but you know, as like a like a dude. It
- 25:58Speaker 1: was the fifty cent gu in the era and then
- 26:01Speaker 1: this this blog era that was so special and one
- 26:05Speaker 1: Train is a record then I listened to so much
- 26:09Speaker 1: for as old as it is, and it's it's you know,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I think for my money is the best posse felt
- 26:17Speaker 1: in the last you know, fifteen years or so. A
- 26:18Speaker 1: lot of people saying it's like the Black Hippy Shittle.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I think that record is just different.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Man.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Can you just kind of tell me, like, did you
- 26:26Speaker 6: ever go back and listen and and and just from
- 26:29Speaker 6: your memory, just how that record came about? Did you
- 26:33Speaker 6: hear anyone's versus? And you know, I do feel like
- 26:37Speaker 6: it's one of those time stamps in hip hop or if.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You want to know what it was like for an
- 26:42Speaker 1: era of dudes and everybody was on there.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Yeah, man, shout out to that, shout out to flock on.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I remember how it happened, and I was, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 3: me and Rockey we used to work out of the
- 26:58Speaker 3: same studio and Quad studios. Well, he will work on
- 27:03Speaker 3: QUI like like that building had a punch of different
- 27:05Speaker 3: right hands on the ask, you know. So he will
- 27:06Speaker 3: work for Quad on what was at the tenth Ward
- 27:09Speaker 3: and I will be in the mail with Sixth for
- 27:11Speaker 3: a while.
- 27:12Speaker 2: So I remember one day, you know, I was there
- 27:15Speaker 2: and he came down.
- 27:17Speaker 3: And I even know he was upstairs, but he came
- 27:19Speaker 3: down because he heard I was down there, and he
- 27:21Speaker 3: was like yo, I got this record.
- 27:23Speaker 2: You know. Obviously at the time he's on fire. I'm
- 27:25Speaker 2: on fire.
- 27:26Speaker 3: So he's like, yeah, I got this record for you,
- 27:28Speaker 3: and I play for you. I'm like, I bet you know,
- 27:32Speaker 3: say less. So you know, I went upstairs.
- 27:35Speaker 2: And I can't remember if Kendrick was on it at
- 27:41Speaker 2: that time or not. That I can't remember, but.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I do feel like it was it was definitely his verse,
- 27:48Speaker 3: and I want to say it maybe somebody else verse.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I can't remember that somebody.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Else was Kendrick than that, but either way, once he
- 27:54Speaker 3: played that for me and he told me what the
- 27:56Speaker 3: objective was, I was like, say Less, what did he say?
- 28:00Speaker 3: Attracted was that he was gonna get it all all
- 28:02Speaker 3: these differently, you know what I'm saying. And I was like, oh, Like,
- 28:04Speaker 3: first of all, I thought it was dope. I thought
- 28:06Speaker 3: that was a super dope. But I did, you know,
- 28:08Speaker 3: because I was doing postive cuts at the time, but
- 28:11Speaker 3: with my crew, right, you know, so I thought it
- 28:13Speaker 3: was it was tight that he was putting together this
- 28:15Speaker 3: posse cut with everybody from that generation, all of the
- 28:19Speaker 3: like we was all the newcomers at the times.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Me it was it was flock old.
- 28:23Speaker 3: It's Dot, there was Yellow Yellow, Woe bron that Bronson,
- 28:27Speaker 3: Danny Brown like it was. It was a crazy, crazy lineup.
- 28:32Speaker 3: But I just remember being like, man, say, let's like,
- 28:35Speaker 3: I'm gonna go hard on this.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Ship, yo'. It's crazy too, because you know, I feel
- 28:41Speaker 1: like you're one of the few artists that you know,
- 28:43Speaker 1: we've actually watched you grow up in real time coming
- 28:47Speaker 1: to the game, you know, as a kid, and and
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, you never you never came off like a
- 28:55Speaker 1: kid though musically interview wise, if you meet you know,
- 28:57Speaker 1: anytime anybody would ever talk to When I first met you,
- 29:02Speaker 1: we always hear like, there's the gift in the curse
- 29:06Speaker 1: of being that young and getting a certain amount of fame,
- 29:10Speaker 1: a certain amount of money, a certain amount of notoriety.
- 29:12Speaker 1: But you seem to have, you know, really navigated that spectacularly.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Was it tough though? Was it ever tough like going
- 29:22Speaker 1: through being who you were, being a kid while also being.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Joey Bad. Yeah? Absolutely, you know, there was a few
- 29:35Speaker 2: things that was tough for me, right.
- 29:38Speaker 3: I think one what I was dealing with heavily at
- 29:41Speaker 3: the time, and I didn't I didn't even know I
- 29:43Speaker 3: was dealing with it with Survivor's Guild.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Mmmm.
- 29:46Speaker 3: That was making me overcompensate so much, like trying to
- 29:50Speaker 3: do the most for the people to around me who
- 29:53Speaker 3: were seeing the same successesly, you know, because like I
- 29:56Speaker 3: could feel the energy, but then I'd feel a little
- 29:58Speaker 3: bit insecure about own success because I'm like, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 3: it's so many opportunities back in that time that I
- 30:06Speaker 3: passed up on, well not that I passed up on,
- 30:09Speaker 3: but that I had I had to pass up on
- 30:11Speaker 3: because my mentality was like, yo, if we can't all go,
- 30:16Speaker 3: we don't go, you know.
- 30:18Speaker 2: So it was a lot of rooms.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And stuff, like a lot of hotel rooms, a lot
- 30:22Speaker 1: of travel, a lot of.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Now hotel rooms like rooms, I mean like literal like
- 30:26Speaker 3: you know, the rooms that you could be in, rooms
- 30:27Speaker 3: that I could be in, tables that I could sit at,
- 30:29Speaker 3: right that I didn't go into because the invite was
- 30:35Speaker 3: for me, and I didn't really understand that at the time.
- 30:38Speaker 3: And you know, in hindsight, I realized, you know, how
- 30:40Speaker 3: much of a misstep that was for me, you know,
- 30:44Speaker 3: because it's like the the incline could have been way
- 30:46Speaker 3: much faster for me.
- 30:48Speaker 2: But there was a lot of times where I deliberately
- 30:52Speaker 2: got in the way or I slowed down the process
- 30:55Speaker 2: because one I was trying to bring anybody with.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Me, and then two I just wasn't sure that I
- 31:01Speaker 3: actually wanted that life, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 31:04Speaker 3: I think I was a little bit afraid of it,
- 31:06Speaker 3: where it's just like, yo, what is it gonna do
- 31:08Speaker 3: to me? You know, because I was so young, and
- 31:10Speaker 3: it's like in a lot of ways, I was very
- 31:12Speaker 3: impressionable still, Yeah, and I was a little bit fearful
- 31:17Speaker 3: of what it would turn me into if I moved
- 31:20Speaker 3: too fast into it.
- 31:21Speaker 2: And it's like, you know, we're just growing up here,
- 31:24Speaker 2: and all types of shit about the industry, like you
- 31:26Speaker 2: know what I mean, people selling these souls, this, that
- 31:29Speaker 2: and the third.
- 31:29Speaker 1: So hey, real quick, we want to tell you about
- 31:31Speaker 1: our sponsors at odds Socks. That's our day one family.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Make sure you follow them at odd Socks Official. I
- 31:36Speaker 1: just got to run in a five k with them

- 31:50Speaker 1: go to odd socksofficial dot com. Use that promo code
- 31:53Speaker 1: bootleg right now or bootleg keV. I forget which one
- 31:57Speaker 1: it is. I think it's both. I think both work. Anyway,
- 31:58Speaker 1: let's get back to the interview of that.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Kind of manifested into my trajectory, because there was a
- 32:04Speaker 3: lot of hesitation in the beginning that I purposely made
- 32:08Speaker 3: just out of really like, like I remember it was
- 32:12Speaker 3: one day and I was just sitting in a car,
- 32:13Speaker 3: and I'm like, yo, like for some reason.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I couldn't let go the idea of.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Walking, of having to leave behind the idea of walking
- 32:26Speaker 3: down to New.
- 32:26Speaker 4: York City street. That was that was so hard for
- 32:31Speaker 4: me to like face.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Like almost like if I lean into fame, if I
- 32:36Speaker 1: lean into this too much, I don't want.
- 32:38Speaker 3: To lose that, right, Like that's a free you know,
- 32:42Speaker 3: being a New York City kid. That's that's just a
- 32:46Speaker 3: part of my identity is navigating the streets.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Like yeah, you know, how not how I've always been
- 32:53Speaker 1: like if you want to what walk down and get
- 32:55Speaker 1: a bacon egg and cheese. I want to go get
- 32:56Speaker 1: a bacon egg and Jus, I don't want to have
- 32:58Speaker 1: to get a I gotta get scary to get insistent exactly.
- 33:02Speaker 1: You said that that was a mistake maybe in highsight,
- 33:06Speaker 1: but you're still like fully intact energy. Why like, could
- 33:12Speaker 1: the trade off have been a faster incline but at
- 33:16Speaker 1: the expensive of yourself maybe, right, you know what I'm saying.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Yeah, No, you know, listen, man, One thing I've come
- 33:24Speaker 3: to learn is that things happen the way that.
- 33:28Speaker 4: They're supposed to do. They're supposed to.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Happen, you know, like God has a plan, and I
- 33:33Speaker 3: think that this is all part of what his plan
- 33:37Speaker 3: was for me, you know. And I think that whatever
- 33:41Speaker 3: I was feeling at the time when I was younger,
- 33:43Speaker 3: I was telling me, whoa slow down or be cautious,
- 33:46Speaker 3: I think that was intuition and that that that intuition
- 33:50Speaker 3: was was was a godly element that was warning me
- 33:56Speaker 3: of something, and you know, which ultimately led me to
- 33:59Speaker 3: take the power that I took, whether it be to
- 34:02Speaker 3: you know, not into rooms so soon or whatever. You know,
- 34:06Speaker 3: I think that it all played a part on in
- 34:10Speaker 3: the man that you see today. And it's like, you know,
- 34:12Speaker 3: at the end of the day, I'm grateful, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 3: I'm grateful. I feel like throughout every point in my
- 34:19Speaker 3: career is always felt like I'm at a new beginning,
- 34:23Speaker 3: and I think that's not something that everyone always experiences, So,
- 34:28Speaker 3: you know, for that alone, I'm like, even right now,
- 34:30Speaker 3: it's like, man, I'm so excited to.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Share this new body of work and.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You know, tour again and collaborate and yeah, like I'm
- 34:43Speaker 3: just pumped this new album.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Talk to me about it because right now, you know,
- 34:50Speaker 1: like you said, the inspiration is overflowing. Yeah, the appetite
- 34:54Speaker 1: I feel like for Joey's for lyrics, for Joey Badass,
- 34:58Speaker 1: for this ship is is. I also feel like the
- 35:01Speaker 1: fan base wants it, you know, for you like what
- 35:07Speaker 1: like give me you say you're taking Are you taking
- 35:09Speaker 1: some risks on this album sonically? Are you? Because you say,
- 35:12Speaker 1: are you trying new ship?
- 35:13Speaker 3: Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely definitely taking some calculated risks,
- 35:19Speaker 3: you know, trying new ship.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I heard her boy Static's got some beats on there,
- 35:22Speaker 1: which is very because I think he's my favorite producer
- 35:25Speaker 1: you work with. When you guys work together, it's like butter.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Static always gonna have some beats on my ship. Man,
- 35:30Speaker 3: you know that's shout out the static. It's my big bro.
- 35:34Speaker 3: But yeah, man, listen, I'm excited about this joint.
- 35:37Speaker 4: The joint. The album is called Lonely at the Top.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I love it.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it got you know, we got some good features
- 35:43Speaker 3: on there.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Uh we got.
- 35:46Speaker 3: It's just it's just a great body of work. And
- 35:49Speaker 3: you know, I feel like it doesn't overstay. Its welcome.
- 35:51Speaker 3: It's a good like thirty five minutes, you know, and
- 35:54Speaker 3: it does everything that it needs to do. And then
- 35:57Speaker 3: by the time you're fucking fully emerging and joining it,
- 36:01Speaker 3: this is over running back.
- 36:02Speaker 1: We always have to we do have to wait some
- 36:04Speaker 1: years between projects with you it. Uh are you battery
- 36:11Speaker 1: in your back? Because you have so much that you do.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Obviously you're an actor, You're very successful actor, You're a model,
- 36:17Speaker 1: you know. I remember I was going to the mall
- 36:19Speaker 1: one day and I saw it. I don't even I
- 36:20Speaker 1: don't remember. It was a Colonne or something. I was like,
- 36:23Speaker 1: whatever it was, I was like, this is fucking crazy.
- 36:26Speaker 1: But but you have so much happening, so much going on.
- 36:30Speaker 1: But like you know, you got I feel like right
- 36:33Speaker 1: now is you know, like you said, you gotta do
- 36:36Speaker 1: something with that inspiration that's overflowing. It is it is
- 36:39Speaker 1: this like a taste or and then we got to
- 36:41Speaker 1: wait a while? Or are you fully d you know,
- 36:46Speaker 1: are you already planning out the next thing? Are you
- 36:48Speaker 1: living in the moment? Like, Yeah, we got some some serious.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Serious outdoor like it's a lot.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we're outside, it's a bugs.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Like.
- 37:04Speaker 3: I'm being very careful with what I'm saying because what
- 37:07Speaker 3: I don't want to do, what I've done in the.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Past is rile the vans up, create false expectations, create
- 37:13Speaker 1: false expect expectations.
- 37:15Speaker 4: But I can't confidently say that.
- 37:20Speaker 3: There will not be another year's long gap from this
- 37:25Speaker 3: joint in the next joint.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Like, what I can say is that I have a
- 37:29Speaker 4: lot of music, and.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I'll even go as far as say that, you know,
- 37:35Speaker 3: before everything that transpired this year, there was another project
- 37:39Speaker 3: that was being worked on. So what you're about to
- 37:42Speaker 3: hear with Lonely at the top is what I've made
- 37:45Speaker 3: in like the last month. Oh so while you're in
- 37:48Speaker 3: this pocket, yeah, and when I'm in this pocket using
- 37:51Speaker 3: this energy, this inspiration, I've been just locked in, you
- 37:54Speaker 3: know what I mean. So I felt like, because the
- 37:58Speaker 3: direction that I'm going after this is much needed and
- 38:02Speaker 3: that's more of a conceptual piece of work. But this
- 38:10Speaker 3: is more like I understand my signment right now.
- 38:13Speaker 1: You understand your signment right now. You understand what the
- 38:15Speaker 1: people are looking for you to do at this moment, at.
- 38:17Speaker 3: This moment, and that's what Lonely at the Top is
- 38:20Speaker 3: so but follow.
- 38:22Speaker 1: The conceptual album is there, it's been worked on.
- 38:27Speaker 4: But it's all I'm gonna say is a lot of music.
- 38:31Speaker 3: A lot already said too much, But there's a lot
- 38:34Speaker 3: of music, and I'm excited, you know, like, without a
- 38:38Speaker 3: doubt there won't be another year.
- 38:39Speaker 1: As long as I like to hear that, I always wonder, man.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You know, I recently dealt with my boy art the
- 38:48Speaker 1: Beasts passing away. It was a really good friend of
- 38:50Speaker 1: mine and and and fucked me up for a while,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you know, all this time after Capital Steeze is passing, like,
- 38:57Speaker 1: you know, I feel like he was one of them
- 38:58Speaker 1: guys in pro era who you know, he had the
- 39:02Speaker 1: biggest footprint on nineteen ninety nine and he was such
- 39:06Speaker 1: a talented guy.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Man.
- 39:08Speaker 1: You know, is there is there anything about Steves that
- 39:12Speaker 1: you know, maybe people didn't know about you know that, Yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 1: I feel like we didn't really get to like really
- 39:18Speaker 1: enjoy him as fans as long as as as you know,
- 39:21Speaker 1: he wasn't here that long.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Listen man, Steez.
- 39:24Speaker 3: To this day, I haven't met a person like Steve.
- 39:28Speaker 3: He was really a one of a kind individual. And
- 39:33Speaker 3: it's just crazy when I think about it, because I'm like, man,
- 39:37Speaker 3: you know they say that that that that that's saying
- 39:39Speaker 3: the good die young, and it's just like it's a
- 39:43Speaker 3: it's a trippy thing to acknowledge because I'm like, yo,
- 39:49Speaker 3: my man was really exceptional as just a human being,
- 39:53Speaker 3: and I don't even think that words can do justice
- 39:57Speaker 3: up to like just who he was and the man
- 40:00Speaker 3: he was and the influence that he had in his
- 40:04Speaker 3: short time here, And like I still look up to him,
- 40:08Speaker 3: and I realized that that was a nineteen version, nineteen
- 40:10Speaker 3: year old version of him. So I'm still looking up
- 40:13Speaker 3: to a nineteen year old Like I'm thirty.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Now right, you know what I mean?
- 40:17Speaker 1: You just made me feel so old.
- 40:20Speaker 4: It's wow as wow, you know that that idea I
- 40:26Speaker 4: hear that.
- 40:26Speaker 3: I hear that in my mind a lot, like I
- 40:28Speaker 3: faced that a lot where it's it's like, dang, like
- 40:30Speaker 3: Steevez was nineteen and I'm thirty and I'm still like
- 40:38Speaker 3: being like, man, how could I be more like Steve's
- 40:41Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, And that's a nineteen year
- 40:43Speaker 3: old kid.
- 40:43Speaker 1: It's so crazy.
- 40:45Speaker 4: That's like me and a nineteen year old kid today
- 40:47Speaker 4: and being like.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Dang, Like you know, it's a wild concept to think.
- 40:52Speaker 1: It's like, like you said, the good guy. It's like,
- 40:54Speaker 1: I don't think people understand like how young Tupac was
- 40:56Speaker 1: when he passed away in Look and you know Xxxi,
- 41:00Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, a perfect exact another kid who I met.
- 41:03Speaker 1: You worked with him?
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and he had a he had a great
- 41:07Speaker 2: He left a great impression on me as well, because
- 41:10Speaker 2: he kind of reminded me of my brother Steves in
- 41:13Speaker 2: a way, but more in the competitive nature, Like you
- 41:15Speaker 2: see everything that just happened that was x ye.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Like when we was in that studio, me and him
- 41:20Speaker 3: is having a conversation like like like he's he's looking
- 41:23Speaker 3: at me and he's like, yeah, I'm about to body
- 41:25Speaker 3: you on this. I'm like, okay, okay, little bro, you
- 41:28Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. Like, but it's like that at
- 41:32Speaker 3: that time, I haven't felt that feeling in so long,
- 41:36Speaker 3: like since things was here, right, and I love that
- 41:39Speaker 3: X had that in him, you know. And then when
- 41:41Speaker 3: we made the Infinity Record, and yeah, you know he
- 41:45Speaker 3: came with the energy man. So you know, just when
- 41:47Speaker 3: it comes to that competition, I think it's always been
- 41:51Speaker 3: an important thing for me as an artist.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Because that's how I came up.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Like with pro Era, we would have ciphers in the
- 41:59Speaker 3: whole way and school, or we meet up in the studio,
- 42:02Speaker 3: and it was always about trying to show up with
- 42:04Speaker 3: the best verse.
- 42:06Speaker 4: And we love each other, were brothers, right, but we.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Want to have the best.
- 42:11Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, We want we want the
- 42:12Speaker 3: best lyrics. You know what I'm saying That Steve's was
- 42:16Speaker 3: big bro in that regard, Like.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Hey, gotta stop the interview. You want to give a
- 42:20Speaker 1: shout out?
- 42:20Speaker 4: Man?
- 42:20Speaker 1: The only thing we smoke, ladies and gentlemen is slap woods.
- 42:23Speaker 1: That's right. Make sure you follow them at slap woods.
- 42:27Speaker 1: And you know the reason why we smoked flat woods.
- 42:30Speaker 1: It's literally because they slap You can't smoke a slapoos.
- 42:34Speaker 1: What the fuck are you doing?
- 42:35Speaker 4: Hey?
- 42:35Speaker 1: Want to give a shout out to our newest sponsor.
- 42:37Speaker 1: You know, I don't like to vape unless it is
- 42:39Speaker 1: pure solventless. Rosin want to give a shout out to
- 42:43Speaker 1: Brokencannabis dot Com. Go give them a follow. It's nothing
- 42:47Speaker 1: but that good guess. Check them out at your local dispensary.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Brokencannabis dot Com tolute to them. Let's get back to
- 42:53Speaker 1: the interview. I always wonder, you know, like I've he
- 42:57Speaker 1: wouldn't mind be saying this. We've talked about it on video,
- 42:59Speaker 1: but like you know, the homie Conway, it really bothers
- 43:04Speaker 1: him that people don't put him in certain discussions because
- 43:10Speaker 1: he is He's fucking Conway. But it really pisces him off.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Like the ship that we see, like the beat out
- 43:18Speaker 1: lists and and just the conversations it it really fucks
- 43:22Speaker 1: like it pisces him off because he puts so much
- 43:25Speaker 1: into his pen. You have like like I feel like
- 43:29Speaker 1: at certain times I'm like, does Joe give a fuck
- 43:32Speaker 1: about music anymore? I don't know, you know what I'm saying,
- 43:34Speaker 1: And then and then this run happens and I'm like, oh,
- 43:36Speaker 1: this is this is what this is amazing? But like,
- 43:38Speaker 1: does does that ship even like does it like the
- 43:42Speaker 1: competition ship, there's the public sentiment ship there's these conversations
- 43:45Speaker 1: that we all always have about who's the greatest, who's this,
- 43:50Speaker 1: who's that? Does that? Does that get to you? Do
- 43:52Speaker 1: you care about that?
- 43:53Speaker 4: Ship?
- 43:55Speaker 3: I mean, I'm an artist who wants to compete and
- 44:00Speaker 3: who is competing? So I think a part of it,
- 44:02Speaker 3: Like it'd be a lie if I said I didn't
- 44:05Speaker 3: care about that to a degree, Like of course, you know,
- 44:10Speaker 3: I don't want to be left out the conversation. That
- 44:12Speaker 3: was the whole sentiment of rulers back every time they
- 44:15Speaker 3: left me out the conversation, like because how dare you?
- 44:20Speaker 4: You know?
- 44:20Speaker 3: So I feel Conway in his sentiment too, and his
- 44:23Speaker 3: pen is incredible.
- 44:25Speaker 4: And he deserves.
- 44:28Speaker 3: That acknowledgement, just like I feel like I deserve that acknowledgement,
- 44:32Speaker 3: you know.
- 44:33Speaker 4: Because we care about this shit.
- 44:35Speaker 3: There's a lot of people who don't care about it,
- 44:39Speaker 3: who you know, be put in conversation but you know.
- 44:43Speaker 1: For sure, but you're right, but you're right. It's like
- 44:47Speaker 1: the passion, you know, this thing has become with social media,
- 44:53Speaker 1: which is like the current like hip hop media landscape.
- 44:55Speaker 1: But just what labels were signing for a good amount
- 44:59Speaker 1: of years, label just signing just the cloud chasing antics
- 45:03Speaker 1: on Instagram.
- 45:04Speaker 4: But you know what too, it's lanes Man's it.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Was all yeah. But I even feel like back like
- 45:08Speaker 1: when I was coming up, you know, even when you
- 45:12Speaker 1: were active, like we would look at Waka Flocka and
- 45:16Speaker 1: be like, yo, flock of shit is ignorant, turn up shit,
- 45:19Speaker 1: but Flocker gave a fuck. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 45:21Speaker 1: I feel like some of the shit nowadays, it's like, yeah,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I got something.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Now, they're not trying that at all. They're not trying.
- 45:28Speaker 4: We live in like the punching.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Like like Floka was writing his lyrics, the punching era
- 45:32Speaker 3: is fucked. Yeah, the punching rors little fucked because you know,
- 45:36Speaker 3: it encourages way too many people. The punching error is
- 45:40Speaker 3: fucked because it makes rap look like it's this thing
- 45:43Speaker 3: that's just so easy that anybody could do.
- 45:45Speaker 4: And you know what part of that is true in
- 45:48Speaker 4: twenty twenty.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Five, it's like Serrato when Serado came for DJs, right,
- 45:52Speaker 1: it's like, now anybody could do it. Yeah, for people
- 45:55Speaker 1: to I mean, there's don't.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Know exactly what you mean because you know, stack select
- 45:58Speaker 3: is my big bro, so I get that Sentimce.
- 46:01Speaker 1: So, like, you know, for people who don't know a
- 46:04Speaker 1: lot of artists these days, most of the new artists,
- 46:07Speaker 1: they don't write anything. They'll punch in line by line,
- 46:11Speaker 1: And I've been in a lot of these sessions and
- 46:13Speaker 1: you're like, there's not a lot of thought going into
- 46:15Speaker 1: these line.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Then it's like the beat is carrying. Yeah, it's like
- 46:18Speaker 4: the beat is the vibe.
- 46:20Speaker 1: It's all about the vibe, and maybe it's a harmony,
- 46:23Speaker 1: maybe it's it's a melody.
- 46:25Speaker 3: But it's like, don't get me wrong, I'm not shooting
- 46:28Speaker 3: that lane down at all, because there's a lot of
- 46:30Speaker 3: shit from those type of artists that I like sometimes
- 46:33Speaker 3: when I come across it, you know what I mean.
- 46:35Speaker 3: So I think it's a lane for everybody. But I
- 46:37Speaker 3: just think that for whatever reason, this mega genre of
- 46:41Speaker 3: hip hop has not been properly managed in a way
- 46:47Speaker 3: where you know, like I said it before, it's like
- 46:53Speaker 3: when you think of rock and roll, it breaks down
- 46:56Speaker 3: a heavy metal, crash, soft rock alternative, and it's like
- 47:02Speaker 3: all of these different genres get their respective subgenres rock, right,
- 47:07Speaker 3: you go to the Grammys, and it's like soft rock
- 47:10Speaker 3: and heavy metal. It's like all these different categories for
- 47:13Speaker 3: rock and roll, but when it comes to hip hop,
- 47:15Speaker 3: they try to put everything under one umbrella.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's almost like and it's like we're twenty
- 47:22Speaker 1: well could you imagine like you know, like when you
- 47:24Speaker 1: turn on the radio, there's a soft rock station, there's
- 47:26Speaker 1: an alternative rock station, there's an active rock station. Imagine
- 47:30Speaker 1: if there if you turn on the radio and it's
- 47:31Speaker 1: the biggest genre in the world, right, and there was
- 47:34Speaker 1: a trap station trap hip hop only yo, the best
- 47:38Speaker 1: you know there's they're doing it with the old school ship.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Like there's a lot of old school stations popping up.
- 47:41Speaker 3: But now I wouldn't even call it the trap no
- 47:43Speaker 3: more because even the traps, Yeah, for sure. It's like
- 47:47Speaker 3: now there's subgenres that came from the traps. Drill, you know,
- 47:52Speaker 3: a drill fucking you got the Emos ship, they got
- 47:57Speaker 3: fucking it's so many things, and it's like it's really beautiful.
- 48:02Speaker 3: But what gets in the way and what causes so
- 48:05Speaker 3: much discourse is that it hasn't been properly like organized.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the duality too. You know, I wanted to I
- 48:12Speaker 1: want to reverse a sect because I do think that
- 48:16Speaker 1: you know, there was you know, X. The duality of
- 48:19Speaker 1: X was crazy because I was super surprised when yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 1: at the time, I'm just listening to to look at
- 48:27Speaker 1: Me and it's overmodulated and unmixed and mastered and it's
- 48:31Speaker 1: but then he's why I see Joey Badass on the
- 48:34Speaker 1: track list, I'm like, oh what, oh shit, Oh this
- 48:37Speaker 1: dude's nice for real? Did he reach out to you?
- 48:41Speaker 4: Like what? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he reached out
- 48:43Speaker 4: to me.
- 48:43Speaker 3: And you know, X was a huge, huge fan of
- 48:46Speaker 3: mine and Steve's and pro Era. You know, X was
- 48:49Speaker 3: one of those kids who you know, was listening to
- 48:51Speaker 3: pro Era come up. Like we inspired a lot of people,
- 48:55Speaker 3: a lot of people that you see today. Like I
- 48:57Speaker 3: remember the first time I met lil Uzi Vert and
- 48:59Speaker 3: I was CJ, and he came up to both of us, like, yo,
- 49:02Speaker 3: when I saw hard Knock come on Sucker Free Countdown,
- 49:06Speaker 3: Like it was y'all who showed me.
- 49:08Speaker 4: That I could do this shit. Yeah, that's what Ouzie
- 49:10Speaker 4: said to me, verbatim. I'll never forget it, you know
- 49:12Speaker 4: what I mean?
- 49:12Speaker 3: Shit, CARDI same thing, you know what I mean, Like
- 49:15Speaker 3: all of these guys, they because we were kids at
- 49:19Speaker 3: the time, so you know, almost like what our future
- 49:22Speaker 3: did for me is what like I did for what
- 49:25Speaker 3: we what we did for you know, a lot of
- 49:27Speaker 3: these new generation guys.
- 49:28Speaker 7: I think, just that whole Beast Coast, even if their
- 49:31Speaker 7: sound is not what our sound is, they were still
- 49:34Speaker 7: inspired by the fact that they saw somebody who was
- 49:37Speaker 7: more closer.
- 49:38Speaker 4: To them making the dream happen. Right, That was the
- 49:42Speaker 4: inspiration for them. It's like we were seventeen.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, there was. There was the Beast Coast movement
- 49:48Speaker 1: that was so like so fire, you know what I'm saying.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It was pro era, you know what I'm saying. It
- 49:53Speaker 1: was shout to Flatbush Zombie still going crazy.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Zombies under the Chief Underachievers man.
- 49:58Speaker 1: It was, it was, it was. It was such a
- 49:59Speaker 1: just a amazing moment in uh in hip hop and
- 50:02Speaker 1: obviously East Coast hip hop, New York hip hop and
- 50:04Speaker 1: all that shit. So on this new album, is there,
- 50:08Speaker 1: uh An? I mean, I have an idea. I think
- 50:12Speaker 1: I know a couple of features that we won't say
- 50:14Speaker 1: out loud, but I know You've got some features on
- 50:16Speaker 1: this project. Is there is there still a record with
- 50:23Speaker 1: somebody who you have yet to do to work with,
- 50:27Speaker 1: to meet you. I feel like you keep your ear
- 50:28Speaker 1: to the street. What is the feature that is just
- 50:33Speaker 1: for whatever reason, not happened or something. It could even
- 50:35Speaker 1: be somebody knew that you just you're just a fan
- 50:37Speaker 1: of that you wouldn't mind working with.
- 50:42Speaker 3: There's a new kid from Harlem coming out right now.
- 50:47Speaker 3: His name is Lem Okay, I just got put on him,
- 50:49Speaker 3: so he's like at the top of my mind right
- 50:51Speaker 3: now when you ask me that question.
- 50:52Speaker 4: But I think he's dope. I think he's incredibly talented.
- 50:55Speaker 4: I would love to work with him. But I think
- 50:58Speaker 4: for me right now, like like I'm always I love
- 51:01Speaker 4: samarasan Shout Tomorrow.
- 51:03Speaker 1: She's amazing.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Oh that's what you say. I love Samarasin. I think
- 51:07Speaker 4: her whole vibe is dope. I like Overcast.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Overcast is dope too.
- 51:12Speaker 4: I like Marco Plus from Atlanta. He's a he's a
- 51:16Speaker 4: crazy spinner. It's a it's it's a few cats, man,
- 51:21Speaker 4: It's a few cats.
- 51:21Speaker 3: And then start walking around with the list because I
- 51:25Speaker 3: really be wanting to give motherfuckers some light, you know
- 51:27Speaker 3: what I mean. I like Wrong Streets. Wrong Streets is
- 51:31Speaker 3: on the album I Love Uh. I heard him for
- 51:34Speaker 3: the first time in the whole back and forth with
- 51:36Speaker 3: the West Coast Cat Cash.
- 51:39Speaker 4: He's on the album Dope. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah,
- 51:44Speaker 4: I really I really want.
- 51:46Speaker 3: To be an example, especially as the Liverpool MC of
- 51:52Speaker 3: like being able to shine light or not only of
- 51:55Speaker 3: course lyrical MC's, but just also those.
- 52:01Speaker 4: New generation artists on the come up. You know what
- 52:04Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I want to be somebody who's recognized for collaborating with artists.
- 52:09Speaker 4: On the ros.
- 52:10Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, Like my uh, I'm not
- 52:13Speaker 3: all about just doing the big shit, you know what
- 52:16Speaker 3: I mean?
- 52:16Speaker 4: Like I like like when I come across artists who.
- 52:19Speaker 3: I really love and who really resonate with me and
- 52:22Speaker 3: who are smaller, is like I just kind of have
- 52:25Speaker 3: like a instinct nature to like shit, I I'd love
- 52:28Speaker 3: to help them in any way, but also collaborate too,
- 52:31Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. So yeah, I told the
- 52:33Speaker 3: new artists on to come up man, and shit I
- 52:37Speaker 3: got I got, I got so many stories Like you know,
- 52:39Speaker 3: I'm I'm I'm very cool like that when you wanted
- 52:41Speaker 3: to meet in real life.
- 52:43Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 52:44Speaker 3: I'm a very like just easy cat, like you know,
- 52:46Speaker 3: we have a conversation. I I I like listening to
- 52:49Speaker 3: people music, right, you know, Like I was at a
- 52:51Speaker 3: dinner when I got put onto the Lean Kid and
- 52:54Speaker 3: some kid was just talking about it, some dude who
- 52:56Speaker 3: work with him, and he was kind of doing a terrible.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Job at explaining.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I'm like, bro, you selling your man terribly, and he
- 53:02Speaker 3: was like, yo, I mean honestly, the musical talk for itself.
- 53:05Speaker 3: And then I happened to have my headphones and I
- 53:06Speaker 3: put him on. I was like, okay, yeah, I get it. Yeah, yeah, okay, man,
- 53:10Speaker 3: I see why. Okay, yeah, you know. So it's dope.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Man.
- 53:15Speaker 3: You know, I just want to be a beacon for
- 53:17Speaker 3: artists one to come up, because I feel like I'm
- 53:20Speaker 3: kind of like a young og at this point. I
- 53:22Speaker 3: mean like I'm like big bro and this shit, like
- 53:24Speaker 3: I donet been through.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I didn't been down all of these different roads.
- 53:27Speaker 3: And I could tell motherfuckers, yo, that rod got a
- 53:30Speaker 3: big ass pothole right there. Go around that shit, or
- 53:33Speaker 3: take it two miles five when you hit this corner,
- 53:35Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. So, and I love giving
- 53:37Speaker 3: game like that because I didn't have.
- 53:40Speaker 4: Nobody doing that for me.
- 53:42Speaker 3: And you know it would have been nice to have,
- 53:45Speaker 3: but I think that it's also a beautiful thing that
- 53:49Speaker 3: I could be that person for somebody else.
- 53:51Speaker 1: You said, you know, I watched the interview just with
- 53:54Speaker 1: the gillion wallow, and you know, I think you made
- 53:58Speaker 1: an important point that like labels these days aren't fucking
- 54:01Speaker 1: with anybody who already don't got shit going right, like
- 54:04Speaker 1: you gotta have they you gotta they gotta be able
- 54:07Speaker 1: to jump onto the train while it's already that that's
- 54:09Speaker 1: just what they're looking for, right you, Like you said,
- 54:13Speaker 1: we're thirteen years into you being a thing where people
- 54:17Speaker 1: know you in this music industry. You've been through different management,
- 54:21Speaker 1: different situations. If a young independent artist is watching this
- 54:26Speaker 1: and they're getting the major label interest, would what what
- 54:33Speaker 1: would be your advice to them? Let's say they let's
- 54:36Speaker 1: say they got one hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Let's say they you know, they're they're able to pay
- 54:43Speaker 1: their bills barely, but they're able to pay their bills
- 54:45Speaker 1: on this rap shit. Everybody's starting to call you know
- 54:47Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like you do you go to major
- 54:50Speaker 1: route and I know that that's not a one, one
- 54:52Speaker 1: size fits all question. But like based on just your perspectives.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Well.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Important that you with the most important thing you just
- 55:01Speaker 3: said just now. It's not a one size office question
- 55:04Speaker 3: for sure, right, So it's not always going to apply
- 55:07Speaker 3: to everybody the same way. Correct, No one person like
- 55:12Speaker 3: like everybody's not going to have the same path. So
- 55:14Speaker 3: just because it worked out for Chuck this way, don't
- 55:16Speaker 3: mean it's gonna work out for Phiel the same way.
- 55:19Speaker 4: But what I will say is if it's not.
- 55:22Speaker 3: A matter of you needing money to literally get by
- 55:29Speaker 3: in your life or to survive, if you can at
- 55:32Speaker 3: least sustain where you are, then I would say to
- 55:38Speaker 3: hold off on taking the big bag, taking the advance
- 55:41Speaker 3: taking because you know that advance is just buying into.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Your stock as a as what is essentially a company,
- 55:50Speaker 4: as an artist, you know what I mean, Building.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Your IP, keep building your If you don't need the money,
- 55:55Speaker 1: just keep building it.
- 55:55Speaker 3: If you don't need the money, keep building it, you
- 55:58Speaker 3: know what I mean, Because the pay off when when
- 56:01Speaker 3: those checks are showing straight up to where you live,
- 56:05Speaker 3: it's a different ball game for sure, where they don't
- 56:07Speaker 3: got to go through somebody, and you know you gotta
- 56:10Speaker 3: get it every quarter of the year or every half
- 56:14Speaker 3: of the year.
- 56:14Speaker 4: It's a different ball game when they coming straight.
- 56:16Speaker 3: To you, and that is going to have a bigger
- 56:20Speaker 3: payoff in the long run than the.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Check up front that quick bag, because then you'll hear.
- 56:26Speaker 3: Because you get that quick bag. But then now there's
- 56:29Speaker 3: no bags until you recoop. Whereas you just begin in
- 56:33Speaker 3: this steady flow of income with what you got and
- 56:36Speaker 3: just keep building it. And it's like in the long
- 56:38Speaker 3: term you make more money that it makes sense, like
- 56:42Speaker 3: you might have more money now off the events.
- 56:44Speaker 4: And that's how they get us. That's how they get us.
- 56:46Speaker 4: It's a trickery game.
- 56:47Speaker 1: No, you take the upfront bag even though you know, hey,
- 56:49Speaker 1: if you just this music over two or three years
- 56:53Speaker 1: is going to make you more money than that.
- 56:54Speaker 3: And you know what, it's fucked up because you gotta
- 56:56Speaker 3: really think about it, right, Why they offering me this money.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Because they think it's it's a good business move exactly.
- 57:04Speaker 1: They would have been offering you a million dollar advance
- 57:06Speaker 1: for an album.
- 57:07Speaker 4: And you always I think about it, they offering you
- 57:10Speaker 4: a million.
- 57:11Speaker 3: Then remember they're always trying to make a deal, right,
- 57:15Speaker 3: They always trying to like you know, if you study stocks,
- 57:19Speaker 3: you don't buy stocks.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Unless you're getting for twenty percent off.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, it's okay, it's a good day to day
- 57:25Speaker 1: went down.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Everybody these labels is approaching you. They like they're trying
- 57:30Speaker 4: to get you for the low.
- 57:31Speaker 3: So but they know that you ain't never seen no
- 57:34Speaker 3: money like this before. So while they know what's the
- 57:37Speaker 3: low for you was a high and you know we
- 57:40Speaker 3: fall into it. It's like, oh shit, a million dollars
- 57:42Speaker 3: I ain't never seen. A lot of us is coming
- 57:46Speaker 3: from a scarcity. Be mindset. So we think that because
- 57:48Speaker 3: the million dollars is here today, we need to take
- 57:50Speaker 3: it or else we ain't never gonna see it again.
- 57:52Speaker 4: This would be our only chance to be a millionaire.
- 57:55Speaker 7: And it's really like they use that, they take advantage
- 57:59Speaker 7: of you because they know that if somebody's given you
- 58:03Speaker 7: a million dollars, it's because they think they can make
- 58:05Speaker 7: five for you.
- 58:07Speaker 4: Don't forget that. Don't look that go over your head.
- 58:10Speaker 1: You know you mentioned stocks. I wonder this is just
- 58:14Speaker 1: a random You know, nas has been in the news
- 58:16Speaker 1: a lot lately, but I just saw something so crazy.
- 58:19Speaker 1: He's a part owner of a casino in Queens.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Yeah, shout to Nas man. That's that's really my big bro.
- 58:25Speaker 3: You know what I mean, a lot of shout to
- 58:27Speaker 3: Nas man.
- 58:28Speaker 1: I just wonder, like, what is what is your entrepreneur
- 58:30Speaker 1: like when you see ship like that, because Nas is
- 58:33Speaker 1: to me, he's my favorite MC ever the Goat but
- 58:36Speaker 1: mass appeals crazy, battle shouts, Master Peel slick rickuds crazy.
- 58:40Speaker 1: But when you see like like somebody like Nas doing
- 58:44Speaker 1: all this entrepreneurial ship, does that does that inspire you?
- 58:47Speaker 1: Are you? Are you doing anything? Like are you I
- 58:50Speaker 1: know you talked about wanting to do a production company obviously.
- 58:52Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I started off production coming for sure.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Man, you know, Nas is very is very inspiring to
- 58:59Speaker 3: see where he come and it gives me a lot
- 59:01Speaker 3: of hope because I feel very aligned to Nas yes
- 59:04Speaker 3: as far as an artists and like my career trajectory
- 59:06Speaker 3: and all of that. So it gives me hope. Like okay, yeah,
- 59:10Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Like, don't make a lot of noise behind the scenes,
- 59:12Speaker 1: like you just hear about it, Like, wait, Nad's bought
- 59:14Speaker 1: in the ring camera right what I mean?
- 59:16Speaker 4: Right?
- 59:17Speaker 3: You know, just making you know, smart plays behind the scenes.
- 59:20Speaker 3: But It's funny because you know, yesterday I was driving.
- 59:22Speaker 4: The car my wife and.
- 59:25Speaker 3: Whole book of OJ came on MM and in the
- 59:29Speaker 3: verse he was like, you know, I could have bought
- 59:31Speaker 3: that house in Dumbo for two million, twenty uh whatever
- 59:36Speaker 3: X amount of years later now is going for twenty
- 59:37Speaker 3: five million.
- 59:38Speaker 4: How I'm feeling Dumbo? Yeah, And I was.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Having a conversation with my wife, like, Yo, isn't it
- 59:42Speaker 3: crazy that as successful as Jay is, he's still having
- 59:45Speaker 3: the same type of sentiments that I'm having.
- 59:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what I mean, because.
- 59:49Speaker 3: For me, just the other day, I was like, damn,
- 59:50Speaker 3: I could have bought bitcoin at eight thousand. Yeah, And
- 59:54Speaker 3: back then I'm like, that's an expensive stock.
- 59:57Speaker 4: Yeah, but this shit is worth one hundred fucking thousand now.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: It's funny because when COVID happened, it dipped down to
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: like fifty five hundred. And I remember sitting in a
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: car in East la waiting to meet my boy bidas One,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: looking at it and being like, man, I don't know
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: where the world's finna go.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Right, Fuck that scarcity month, oh man, god.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: Scarious city Mond.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Well, Really, how we're supposed to be looking at it
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: is how much of a percentage?
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: Am I getting this stock off?
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: It's on sale? Hey, it's on sell, Like yo, if
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the video goes on sale, buy it, buy that shit?
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Yeah, no, shit, even if it don't go on sell
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: by one at least, because it's looking like it's going up.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: So if you get in now, I think it's at
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: like one forty right now. Shit, who knows where it's going?
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Like we think that shit going up.
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: Are you able to be in your actor bag and
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: your music bag at the same time or do you
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: have to kind of mentally put one or the other
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: aside so you can like focus if you're playing a
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: part or you're working on an Now, are you able
- 1:01:00Speaker 8: to kind of.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I think that to do it at a high level,
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: I have to give each the respective focus it deserves, right,
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: Like there's no way I could be on set and.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Have a studio session later that night.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Yes, probably not wise?
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: You know what day?
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. And sleep is a
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: very big important part of things as long. I mean,
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: you know, maybe I can make it work, like depending
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: on who's the studio session with, you know what I mean,
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: Like we're gonna work with for real, you make exceptions. Yeah,
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: we can make exceptions, you know, smart ones. But I
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: think just the short answer to your question is each
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: deserves its own respective focus. Like right now, I've been
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: super focused on music, and there's there's a few, oh,
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: there's a few conversations that I've been putting off as
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: far as you know, things going on TV film side.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: But I'm like, yo, yo, let me look, I'm just
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: I need two more days. I'm about to hand in
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: my master's boom boom, and then.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: We could talk that top of next week, you know
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: what I'm saying.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: So yeah, I think that I think I do a
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: good job banishing it overall, but for the most part,
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: each thing has to get separate.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: Time for folk.
- 1:02:13Speaker 9: Like I wonder, like, do you ever go back because
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: you know, they always say that Tupac was capable of
- 1:02:17Speaker 9: being like the greatest actor on the planet if he
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: had stayed alive, because if you go back and watch
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: like him acts, he was incredible.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Do you ever go back and watch pac and like
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: some of it? Because if you watch some of his movies,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: even the ones that weren't great, like obviously that he's
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: got some classics. Grid Iron, there's the one you're you're
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: telling Gridlocked, Goodlock, Gridlocked. You know, it's like it wasn't
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: the greatest movie, but you saw like, oh, this mother
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: saw his potential. This guy is amazing.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Yeah, he was a natural. He was a natural.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: You know, Pac is one of the people who definitely
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: showed me that I could do this thing, you know
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: what I mean. And he's He's definitely somewhat of like
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: the north Star for me when.
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: It comes to just the balancing of both things.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: You know this quote, you chase two rabbits, you wanna
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: catch either one or jack of all trades, mess that none.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: And I keep those things in mind because I'm like,
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: I want.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: To disprove those, to disprove those.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: You know, I think that I have already showcase doing
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: both things at a high level, and I will continue
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: to showcase that. Like you know, people ask me all
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: the time, like what was what did you rather this
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: or that? And I'm like, why do I have to rather?
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Why do I have to choose? I'm in love with both,
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: you know what I mean. And I think what people

- 1:03:51Speaker 3: screen or you hear me on records, it's.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: All art at the end of the day.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: So I'm already choosing one thing. But I don't have
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: to choose one way in which I showcase my artistry.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: So I love that. Man. Well album is coming really sooner,
