- 0:00I'm Christina.
- 0:00And I'm Teeb.
- 0:01And this is the Pretty in Pink Again podcast.
- 0:03Where motherhood meets rediscovery.
- 0:16Welcome back to the Pretty and Pick Again podcast.
- 0:18We are so excited about today's guest, because if you've ever looked online or on Instagram and thought,"Are we still wearing this?
- 0:26Is this chic?
- 0:27Am I just being influenced?
- 0:28Am I too old for this?
- 0:30Is this actually cool, or does Instagram just keep showing this to me'cause they want me to buy it?" Chanelle is basically doing the Lord's work for us, doing all of the research and work behind it.
- 0:39She is the woman behind the Millennial Trend Seeker, where she filters the internet, investigates trends, and tells us what's actually worth paying attention to, and occasionally gives us the permission to skip it, which at this age might be the greatest gift of all.
- 0:53Welcome, Chanelle.
- 0:54I love going to the East Coast.
- 0:55I bet right now you have the most beautiful fall foliage.
- 0:58It just, got really cold, like, all of a sudden.
- 1:00It was, so hot a couple of weeks ago- and then all of a sudden it turned fall a couple days ago, and it's cold now.
- 1:07And I'm like,"I don't know.
- 1:08I'm not ready." It always happens so fast.
- 1:11Yeah.
- 1:11You're not, you're just not prepared.
- 1:13Growing up in Minnesota, there were never enough days of, like, the in-between weather.
- 1:16Like, it was either- Yeah super humid, hot summers or it was, like, the longest, coldest winter.
- 1:21And you just wanted, like, a little bit of the in-between.
- 1:23Well- We are so happy to have you here, and there's nothing that I can say that's gonna take nerves away, because any time I public speak or I speak at all, I get nerves.
- 1:30But just know that, like, we came across your content not once, not twice, but, 10 times, and- Oh we love what you're putting out there.
- 1:38It is, exactly what I want Instagram to send me.
- 1:42Yeah.
- 1:42Oh my gosh.
- 1:43And so honored to have you here on the podcast I feel like this is such a great platform to, talk about all these things.
- 1:50I mean, on Insta- Mm-hmm a great visual, you know?
- 1:53Mm-hmm.
- 1:53You get to, show the trends, the highs, the lows.
- 1:55What are we doing?
- 1:56But I love this platform for, actually talking about everything.
- 1:59Yes.
- 1:59Thank you guys so much for having me.
- 2:01I'm so happy to be here.
- 2:02Of course.
- 2:02I feel like we're just, we're millennial moms.
- 2:04We're all on the same page.
- 2:05We all get it.
- 2:06How many kids do you have?
- 2:08I have two kids.
- 2:09I have two daughters.
- 2:10They're, um, five and eight.
- 2:11Right in it with us.
- 2:12Yes.
- 2:12Our kids are similar ages.
- 2:14Trying to run these online businesses that there was clearly no class for in 2004- No on how to, run a business from your phone.
- 2:25No, seriously.
- 2:26It's so funny, because,, I was trying to prepare a little bit for the podcast this morning, and then my eight-year-old runs in and she's like,"Mom, what's this on my head?" And, like, she had something on her scalp, and I'm like,"Oh my gosh.
- 2:37Do I need to, like, call the pediatrician?" What do I need to do?" There's always something going on when, when you're a mom, even if it's, you're going on a podcast or you're dealing with a scalp issue on your eight-year-old.
- 2:46It's, it...
- 2:47Life is never dull.
- 2:48No.
- 2:49We get it.
- 2:50Life is never dull.
- 2:50No.
- 2:51And we talk about the mental load of everything all the time.
- 2:54I don't know if this was how you were before becoming a mom, but I used to look at, Instagram, before I became a mom.
- 3:02'Cause I started off as a fashion blogger, which I don't really relate to anymore.
- 3:07But I used to be like,"Why do people need inspiration for, the simplest outfits?" Like, why do I always see, like, school pickup outfits circulating'cause I would be like,"Is it, aren't those so basic?" But then now- Right that I'm a mom, I'm like, your brain does not work anymore.
- 3:24Like, you cannot go far back into the file cabinet and get the information- So I need to visualize it.
- 3:31Like,"Show me the outfit.
- 3:32I don't wanna think about anything else So you do the scrolling, the digging.
- 3:37Yes.
- 3:37The trend- Yes seeking.
- 3:39Thank God.
- 3:39So we wanna hear it all from you.
- 3:42I'm here for you guys.
- 3:43No, I totally agree, because I feel like a lotta times on my feed, especially like you said, pre- pre-mom life, you'd see, really cute girls being like,"Okay, this is the mood board I put together for my outfits.
- 3:55This is my PowerPoint of all the outfits I'm gonna wear on vacation," down to, like, the bracelet stack they're gonna wear.
- 4:01And I'm like,"I do not have time to put together a mood board." I do go on Pinterest, but, like, I can't be referencing my Pinterest board every time I get up in the morning.
- 4:08So how did you start becoming the millennial trend seeker?
- 4:13Yeah, so you guys are gonna laugh, because it all started with a little company called Taco Bell, which is very random.
- 4:22So my husband used to work for Taco Bell.
- 4:24And we'd go to, some, fun Taco Bell-type events, where there'd be just, like...
- 4:29I don't know.
- 4:29Taco Bell's, an interesting cultural brand, right?
- 4:31So I'd be, like, videoing these things just for fun.
- 4:35And then I was like,"Oh, this is kinda, like, fun content.
- 4:37I should just put it out there." So I started posting on TikTok, and I was posting as my account called The Taco Bell Family.
- 4:42Yeah.
- 4:43And it was really fun.
- 4:45I did post, like, some, some cute concerts and random stuff like that.
- 4:49But then I started realizing, like, I can't talk about Taco Bell every day.
- 4:53There's only so much I can say about Taco Bell.
- 4:55Like, great food, love a good burrito from time to time, but, uh, I can't talk about it every day.
- 5:00"Well, what, you know, what do I love?" And I love talking about style.
- 5:04I love talking about trends.
- 5:06And I just tried to, to, like, think about how I could incorporate it into my life, which is being a millennial, a millennial woman, a busy mom, and, what would resonate with me personally.
- 5:18And so I just started making videos around that.
- 5:20Were you always into fashion and, like, things that you share now on your page?
- 5:25Or how did that roll into it?
- 5:26So, on my page I always call myself the trend detective, and I do really feel like my whole life I've just been, such a people observer.
- 5:35I love to watch people, and I love to just observe, you know, the style and what people are wearing.
- 5:42And I grew up in, a very, very small town, 2,000 people, one stoplight, in Minnesota.
- 5:48But my mom was a flight attendant, so we got to travel a lot, which was amazing, and it really just, opened my eyes to see, there's so many different ways to dress.
- 5:58There's so many amazing kinds of people and style that you can see around the world.
- 6:02And we had this tradition where we'd go to New York City every summer to- for back to school shopping.
- 6:08And, as a tween and a teen, like, that just, like, made my life.
- 6:11We'd go to not even anywhere fancy, but we'd, like, even go to H&M in Chinatown, and I would be like,"Oh my gosh, this place is amazing." And I would just, love to see how people were dressed.
- 6:21And then as I grew up, I just really held onto that.
- 6:24And, then even being, like, postpartum, I would be watching, like, some of the OG, influencer try-ons during nap time, like Lauren McBride, who I know you guys had on the podcast.
- 6:35Uh, that just, like, really resonated with me, and I loved seeing,- what makes people feel confident and what they love to wear, and started sharing that with my friends, and never looked back.
- 6:44Did you start before or after you were a mom?
- 6:47I started after.
- 6:48I've only been on Instagram about a year and a half.
- 6:50I'm pretty new to this game.
- 6:52Like we were talking about earlier, still trying to figure out some of the technology and editing videos, but I just, I really enjoy it, and it's something I'm, I'm really passionate about.
- 6:59You're so good at spotting what's coming next.
- 7:03How can you tell when something is about to become a trend versus just having that viral moment?
- 7:08What clues do you look for, and how do you usually spot them first?
- 7:12when I see something either online or in real life and it just like immediately resonates with me or immediately gives me a pause and I could see myself wearing it or that it would make sense in my lifestyle.
- 7:25An example would be like, have you guys seen the Samba Mary Janes?
- 7:29Mm-hmm.
- 7:29Like, the Samba Janes.
- 7:30Yeah, I just- I have saw them.
- 7:31I love those, and as soon as I saw those, I was like,"Wow, I, I love my Sambas.
- 7:36I wear my Sambas all the time, and this is like a really unique take." And so it just made me want to like dig into that and, and try them.
- 7:44Like, I just immediately could see it in my lifestyle.
- 7:47And then on the other side, sometimes I see something that's so weird and out there, but yet everyone's talking about it, that I'm like,"Why?
- 7:56What makes, what makes people so interested in this?
- 7:59I need to dig further into this because it's so weird and I don't get it." An example of that would be like the Tabby shoes with To me, they look like a horse hoof, the split toe.
- 8:08I can't do it.
- 8:09I can't.
- 8:10I I cannot either.
- 8:11It looks like a hoof.
- 8:13That's what it looks like.
- 8:15Yes.
- 8:15It looks like a foot.
- 8:16It looks like a hoof.
- 8:16It's crazy, yeah.
- 8:17I don't get it, but like it's gotten really popular, and a lot of people, a lot of women do love it.
- 8:23So when it's something very off the wall that is sticky, I need, I need to dig into it.
- 8:28You need to do some digging.
- 8:29I- All right, so- Exactly Samba Mary Jane.
- 8:31How are we pa- how are we styling the Samba Mary Jane?
- 8:35Okay, so I just had somebody DM me'cause I posted about my own Samba Mary Jane, and they're like,"Okay, what socks do we wear with these?" Yes.
- 8:41And I was like- Good question.
- 8:42Gen.
- 8:42Yeah.
- 8:42Ah, right?
- 8:44It is tricky because practically- It's open it's open.
- 8:48It's a Mary Jane style- and if you do wear a sock you're probably gonna see it.
- 8:54So I prefer it without socks even though, functionally, I, I do wanna wear a sock.
- 8:59So I've also done it with, the really small the really small no-show sock where it would, like, just basically go around your toe and, the bottom of your foot.
- 9:07So I don't know if anybody else is feeling like this, but T and I both turned 40 this year, and- Mm-hmm you're just about to turn 39, so we're all kind of in that same age.
- 9:18I feel like I cared so much more about being, like, on trend, and I'm saying that in quotations, when I was in my 20s and, like, early 30s.
- 9:29And then I don't wanna, like, blame motherhood, because I feel like I blame motherhood for everything.
- 9:34But I feel like when I became a mom, and also just a as I was starting to approach my for- into my 40s, I really stopped caring, like, what was on trend.
- 9:45And I wanted to look current.
- 9:47That was, like, always the word that was going on in my mind.
- 9:49Like, I wanna look current and modern, but I don't necessarily need to feed into every single one of these, like, very silly fast fashion trends all the time, and I wanted my style to look a lot more classic.
- 10:02And I think some of that goes to the mental load and back to, like, I kinda need more of, like, a capsule wardrobe.
- 10:09I need things to be easy.
- 10:11I need to be able to mix and match and be able to make outfits without a ton of effort.
- 10:16But- I feel like when I started saying that on my platform, a lot of people were resonating with that and saying like,"Yeah, like, do we want to be trendy?" Like, I don't even know if that's a word that should be in our vocabulary.
- 10:29How do you feel about that?
- 10:31I guess, like, what's the difference between being current and then looking like you're chasing youth?
- 10:36Because there's a very big difference between that, yes, absolutely.
- 10:40I definitely am in agreement with you that we do not need to chase every trend.
- 10:46We do not need to wear every trend.
- 10:47We do not need to buy every trend.
- 10:49I think that's what I do do well on my page is, like, I will show you a lot of trends, or we will talk about and discuss many.
- 10:57But, like, you can still decide what you feel comfortable with.
- 11:01And also one of my biggest initiatives is taking th- think of a funnel, right?
- 11:06Taking all the trends we're seeing out there and the millions of pieces of content out there, and, like, just filtering it down a little bit.
- 11:12Like, we are busy moms.
- 11:14We don't need to see the billions of trends out there.
- 11:17We don't need to see 100 trends.
- 11:18We maybe need to see, like, a few, maybe three to five trends, and then decide what we feel comfortable in and what makes sense for us in our everyday lifestyle and, you know, your body type and what hobbies you have and where you live even, like the weather.
- 11:33And I think a big difference to your, to your question about being current versus chasing youth is, like, what do you ultimately feel comfortable in?
- 11:43What do you feel most confident in?
- 11:46I think one good barometer, one good way you can test out an outfit if you're like, am I feeling current or am I just, you know, trying too hard?" Is like Maybe don't wear, like, more than one trend at once.
- 12:00Put on your outfit, and put on one piece that feels a little bit outside of your comfort zone, but pair it with, like, your favorite jeans.
- 12:07Everybody has that one pair of jeans that they just know makes them feel amazing in.
- 12:12They're not too tight, they're not too loose.
- 12:14They're just, like, your flattering pair of jeans.
- 12:16And then pair that with maybe, like, a bandana scarf, because that makes it, you feel like,"Oh, okay.
- 12:21I'm trying something new, and I feel, I feel a little bit more chic today just'cause of my scarf." But yet you still feel comfortable because, you know, you're wearing your jeans.
- 12:29You're wearing something that's in your little comfort zone, and that makes you feel good.
- 12:32Our recurring theme is less is more.
- 12:35Mm-hmm.
- 12:35Literally, in every episode recently.
- 12:37Say less- Mm wear less- Say less- do less wear less, do less.
- 12:41It's, it is so true.
- 12:42I feel like it's- Pay less.
- 12:44Yes, pay, it, it- Yes same thing.
- 12:46So I really think that's such good advice.
- 12:49Going back to even being able to decipher, though.
- 12:52Again, I'm kind of going from, like, questions that I have gotten throughout the years if you're seeing all of the trends and you're getting inundated with content, and you're seeing all of the different trends.
- 13:03I liked some of your questions about, like, does this make sense for my life?
- 13:06Does this make sense for the season that I live in?
- 13:09Are there any more questions people can kind of ask themselves to determine what they gravitate towards?
- 13:15Because I feel like that is a tricky thing.
- 13:17Like, you don't even know really what works for you.
- 13:20Like, do you remember- Yeah when we were younger and we would ha- get 17 Magazine in the mail?
- 13:24Yes.
- 13:24And there was, like, a questionnaire- Yes at the, in the magazine.
- 13:27Like, do you remember that?
- 13:28Yes.
- 13:29I- I loved the quizzes if you, like, got- The quizzes a lot of As- Quizzes you know, you were like- Yeah.
- 13:35this category.
- 13:35Yes There were a lot of Bs- Yes or Cs.
- 13:36Like- Yes I just need 17 Magazine to send me, like, 40-year-old magazine- Yes and I need to take that quiz.
- 13:42Yes.
- 13:43Right?
- 13:43I am either in lounge wear, or I am in, like, a mini skirt and high heels.
- 13:47I agree with that.
- 13:48So- You know?
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:49What are some of the other questions, that somebody could ask themselves to to get to the kind of filter out.
- 13:55To filter out, yes Like- Some of the trends...How do I know which one trend to maybe add to my already polished look?
- 14:02If they even are lucky enough to have one.
- 14:04That's a really good question.
- 14:05I do think that trends can sometimes be like music in the sense that do you ever just hear a song, like a brand new song, and you're like,"Oh, this is awful." My girls love the band, the K-pop group Katseye.
- 14:18And at first I heard, like, their songs Gnarly, I think it was Gnarly, yeah, which is a huge hit, and I was like,"This is terrible," like,"I hate this.
- 14:26Turn it off." And then I'm in the car with my girls all the time, driving them around, being an Uber driver to all their activities, and after like the 25th time I was like,"You know what?
- 14:36I like Gnarly.
- 14:37I like this song." I-"I love Katseye." That's the perfect analogy.
- 14:40'Cause that happens to people.
- 14:41Right?
- 14:42Yes, and I think a lot of times that happens with trends too because you see something and you're just like,"Ooh, this," um,"this, this pair of capris," like,"I'm not into capris.
- 14:52Capris are terrible." And then you start to see some, some really cute girls and some really great content out there of girls rocking capris and looking amazing and then you're like,"Okay, I need a pair of capris.
- 15:02Let me go on da-da-da-da.com and, and buy a pair of capris." So it is tough to find those questions.
- 15:09I think one way that I personally answer the questions is if I'm not sure- Is finding an affordable version, if it's like a trend I'm really sort of invested in, finding an affordable version.
- 15:21Sometimes I'll see an expensive pair of designer sunglasses or something.
- 15:24I'm not gonna drop$500 on a sunglasses if I don't even know I like it.
- 15:27So I can find, like, an affordable Amazon version to try it out to see if it really does, like, fit my eye shape, fit my face shape.
- 15:34Or I know you guys have talked about on the podcast, um, Vivrelle.
- 15:38Yeah.
- 15:38You know, you can, you can borrow a designer bag.
- 15:41Happened to me this summer.
- 15:42I always thought I wanted a really cute Chanel backpack.
- 15:46It's like, oh my gosh, it's like the perfect vibe of practical and functional, but yet it's Chanel.
- 15:51Like, how amazing.
- 15:53And so I rented it through Vivrelle, which I loved that experience, but then I realized I'm constantly taking it on and off, like,'cause, mom life, and I'd rather just have a Chanel bag that's right here that I can just dig into.
- 16:05And I would never have known that unless I borrowed it.
- 16:08So I think being able to kind of like try something out is a great way to do it.
- 16:13Oh, I think that those are, both of those- Yeah are such good examples of being able to do that.
- 16:18Just like a song- Mm-hmm you're gonna like it for about three months, and then you wanna turn the radio station.
- 16:22You don't wanna hear it anymore.
- 16:24Yes.
- 16:24But just you know,'70s music and'80s music, everything always comes back, and you might wanna revisit some things again and pull from your archives.
- 16:31Mm-hmm.
- 16:31So I guess if you view trends like music, sometimes you can be all in for a short period of time, and then you need a break.
- 16:38But when you are making expensive investments in these pieces, it's harder to, shelf it for a while.
- 16:44Mm-hmm.
- 16:44So I think that your two tips about trying a low version- Mm-hmm or like a replica or a dupe or an inspired by, and then- Mm-hmm you know, a rental service, I think that's perfect.
- 16:56Yes.
- 16:56I think that is really underutilized.
- 16:59Or even just, like, borrowing from a friend, talking to a friend, you know, or seeing what their, like, real-life experience is with something, especially if it's an investment.
- 17:06Are there any trends that you wish millennials would just try and give it a chance?
- 17:13Oh, let's see.
- 17:14I have like this, um, on my phone, like a beaded like phone strap, like a phone charm that goes around my wrist.
- 17:21And I have a couple friends that like they lovingly make fun of me every time that they see me with that,'cause I'm like dangling it around and whatever, like playing with it a little bit or holding onto it, because I think it's a really great practical thing to carry around my phone.
- 17:35And I think a lot of millennials, especially us like busy millennial moms can actually really, uh, benefit from something like that.
- 17:43You can get them on, you know, I love my Velvet Caviar one is probably one of my favorites, but they're on Amazon and places like that too.
- 17:50And it's just like a practical, fun way to hold your phone, and I think it's really cute.
- 17:56I love that.
- 17:57I'm still a back pocket kinda girl.
- 17:59Yeah.
- 17:59But so many outfits don't have pockets.
- 18:01And I have the loop- Oh, yeah but I'm finding that every, w-'cause I like to be able to carry my phone around that way.
- 18:07But then you- Mm-hmm connect it to anything like MagSafe, like- Oh, yeah, you can't charge which drives me crazy- Yes because I get like the tripods or the chargers that ha- are magnetic, or there's other like accessories that can go, that are magnetic on the back, and then I can't do that.
- 18:22I have to take my phone off to, I have to take it- Exactly out of the case.
- 18:26So I like that.
- 18:27What a good tip.
- 18:28That is very helpful.
- 18:28It's a really good one.
- 18:29And they also have ones that like go fully crossbody too.
- 18:31So like when I'm walking my kids to school, I just, I don't wanna like bring a full purse,'cause it's a short walk, and so I just put that on, we love a crossbody.
- 18:39Millennials love a crossbody.
- 18:41And I can just walk with my phone and that's all I need.
- 18:44We do.
- 18:45I love it.
- 18:45All right.
- 18:45I wanted to get into some fashion highs and lows because- Mm-hmm I would be remiss if we didn't share some highs, because we all know that we love some.
- 18:54Yes, yes, yes.
- 18:55So- Yes what are some, like h- fashion highs right now that you are genuinely excited about?
- 19:05That's a great question.
- 19:06I think one thing I'm really excited about is, and this maybe isn't a hot take or maybe it is, I still love a great matching set.
- 19:17Oh.
- 19:17And now that we're coming into fall and winter- Me- like, ugh, a really good matching set that looks good all the way from 8:00 AM at school drop-off to, bedtime, like, that is money to me.
- 19:30Like, something that I can be comfy in all day, but still look cute and put together- Mm-hmm that is, that's next level for me.
- 19:37That makes me happy to hear,'cause I feel like I have been sort of hearing that the matching set is over, and I feel like- No it's like, no, I don't want it to- No it's so easy.
- 19:47Again, back to, being practical and, not having to think about it, I love a matching set.
- 19:52I mean, all you have to do- Yes is say,"Get it in chocolate brown," and then it's over.
- 19:56Ugh, yes.
- 19:57I love chocolate brown.
- 19:58I, I do not think matching sets are dead by any means.
- 20:01I think they have a lot of staying power because, just like you said, Christina, it's, it makes getting dressed easier in the morning.
- 20:08Like, we all want to think a little bit less about something like, like that.
- 20:13If we have time to, to spend in the mornings doing something else instead of worrying about what matches with what, I think that's a win.
- 20:20What is something that you see on socials that just does not translate into, real life?
- 20:27Are there any trends that you're like,"Oh, this looks good," but, you just cannot fit it in real life, in real time?
- 20:34I think it's important to always tailor a trend to your specific body type and what flatters you.
- 20:44Don't force something.
- 20:45So I have broader shoulders and, narrower hips, so I love an off-the-shoulder look, like a beautiful dress that goes, like, cuts right here or maybe, a, like something more drapey.
- 20:56And every time I put it on, I just, like, end up looking like SpongeBob SquarePants.
- 21:01Like, it just does not work for me.
- 21:04And that's, like, that's just me.
- 21:05It, I think it looks amazing on so many women.
- 21:08It's very chic.
- 21:09It's a great trend out there right now.
- 21:11But knowing what works for you, I just, I have to steer clear of that one.
- 21:16Yeah.
- 21:16Yeah.
- 21:17It just took me almost three years to find the perfect pair of barrel-leg jeans because I tried probably 10, and I, they looked atrocious on my body type.
- 21:27And so finally I ended up with a pair from Spanx, and I'm like,"I am so late to this trend.
- 21:32It's probably gonna be over by the time I find something." But I always liked the way they look, but I just couldn't- Mm-hmm put them on my body without it not fitting correctly.
- 21:41So we're gonna do some hot takes.
- 21:44Millennial uniform-...
- 21:46keep or retire?
- 21:46And we'll, we'll preface, just so that we don't really hurt anybody's feelings- obviously you wear what you wanna wear.
- 21:53However- if the goal is to be current we'll go through keep, update, or retire some of these things.
- 22:00So the first one is skinny jeans, which again, we'll also preface and say you were saying that some of the trends recycle.
- 22:08They come back.
- 22:09They never come back the same, right?
- 22:11Like- So true it's never exactly the same.
- 22:14There's always something a little bit different.
- 22:15So- Totally agree jeans now.
- 22:19Like, we'll ta- well, hold on.
- 22:20Skinny jeans from- 15 years ago.
- 22:25I say keep, honestly.
- 22:28Keep?
- 22:29Keep because- Sure one, I think they are very close to coming back.
- 22:33I really do.
- 22:35And I also wanna preface with what kind of skinny jeans too, Are we talking, like, a jegging glued to your leg, or like a straight- We- skinny jean?
- 22:44I'll let the expert answer, but I- Okay know the answer.
- 22:48I think, like, a straighter skinny jean.
- 22:50It doesn't need to be, like, the skin tight, you know- A legging super, yes- Yeah restrictive type skinny jean, and definitely no rips.
- 22:59Nope.
- 22:59No rips on the skinny jeans.
- 23:01Okay.
- 23:01Um, and a darker denim.
- 23:03I also prefer a darker denim.
- 23:04Um, but I think, one, skinny jeans are not that far from coming back.
- 23:10You maybe saw, like, Alex Earle brought them back.
- 23:12Not that long ago, so she's always on the pulse.
- 23:15But then they also look really very nice with riding boots- yep, I totally agree.
- 23:20All right.
- 23:21okay, what about the Golden Goose sneakers?
- 23:25Oh, I say retire.
- 23:26I've, I've always been a hater of the Golden Goose sneakers.
- 23:30I think that's one of the trends, to our earlier point, about like seeing a trend a million times and then it just growing on you.
- 23:36Like, I don't think anybody inherently wants a dirty sneaker.
- 23:39Nobody wakes up thinking,"You know what?
- 23:41I want a dirty sneaker." Like, I think it just kind of like grew on us'cause we started seeing them so much.
- 23:46So I, I say retire.
- 23:48Yeah.
- 23:48Okay, so what's a replacement for that?
- 23:50Mm-hmm.
- 23:51Ooh, good one.
- 23:52Um, I just got these Adidas Samba fawn print, like a, a deer print shoe, and I am obsessed with them.
- 24:02They have like a little like baby pink lace, they're so cute, and the fawn print is like a beige, so it's like a neutral.
- 24:09Um, I, I love them.
- 24:11So- Yeah Sambas kind of still ke- a keep for sure?
- 24:15Sambas are a keep for me, yeah.
- 24:17I think they're, they're comfy.
- 24:18They're very classic.
- 24:19It's a, like a streamlined shape.
- 24:21I just got a pair of dark red Sambas the other day.
- 24:24I was at Dick's Sporting- Ooh Goods buying them, like, cleats, and I was like,"Ooh, I want a pair of these," but I like, I wanna get the Mary Janes now and these fawn ones.
- 24:33Yes.
- 24:33They're also doing some metallic Sambas, which I think are super cool.
- 24:38What about the Gucci belt?
- 24:40Retire.
- 24:41Retire.
- 24:42Yeah.
- 24:42With, with the double G's?
- 24:43Yep.
- 24:44I am also really loving the, like, larger, almost like the Western style, kind of like a medallion-type belt, like a chunkier belt like that.
- 24:52Mm-hmm.
- 24:52Okay, so that's a good one to kind of do it a little update with.
- 24:56Yes.
- 24:56So then I guess I'll ask this next question to, like, piggyback on that, huge designer logos.
- 25:03Yeah, that one, ooh, I wanna say that's like a case-by-case basis.
- 25:08It's just they're, they are very popular right now.
- 25:12It makes me think of, like, the Parke sweatshirts, right?
- 25:14Like, the- Right where just p- like P-A-R-K-E- Right, right um, huge across the chest.
- 25:19That's not a designer, but it's still, you know, same, same methodology.
- 25:23And there's nothing inherently special about a sweatshirt, right?
- 25:28But something about that big design, big logo on there makes people go crazy for them.
- 25:32They sell out in, like, five seconds.
- 25:34Mm.
- 25:35So I think it's a case-by-case basis on what resonates with you.
- 25:41I really do.
- 25:41What about a crossbody bag?
- 25:44I...
- 25:45That one is also a little bit tricky.
- 25:47I do I love a crossbody bag if it's done correctly, I have, a little, like, Chanel wallet on chain that I used to wear all the time, like, fully, fully crossbody, and then when people started shaming millennials a lot on the Internet, I was like,"Oh, I'll just put it on my shoulder, and then it won't look like a crossbody." And but it's not as comfortable.
- 26:10I don't know.
- 26:10It feels like it's, like- But it's comfortable sliding off your shoulder all the time, right?
- 26:13So I do think crossbody bags are okay, but if it's something like the Lululemon, like, crossbody belt bag, I, I think you can update that.
- 26:20Yep, agreed.
- 26:21Mm-hmm.
- 26:22What about the Goyard tote?
- 26:25Ooh.
- 26:26That one I say retire.
- 26:28Oh.
- 26:29I That is painful for me to hear.
- 26:32I love my Goyard tote.
- 26:34I don't know if I- And- I don't know if I can.
- 26:36Then, and then keep it, right?
- 26:38Yeah.
- 26:38Because to our, to our point, if you love it, then absolutely keep it.
- 26:41I just love mine- I was using it as a diaper bag, which it was a great- Mm-hmm diaper bag'cause you really can shove a bunch of anything in there.
- 26:48But I love that it folds up, and I can bring it with me when I travel.
- 26:52So if I need a bigger bag when I'm out somewhere, it's so, like, small.
- 26:56Yeah, you can roll the bag up in your suitcase.
- 26:57You can roll it.
- 26:58It travels really well, but I get it.
- 27:01Mm-hmm.
- 27:01All right.
- 27:01So then what's a replacement for that?
- 27:04That's a good question.
- 27:06We need to find a replacement.
- 27:07What are those, like, tie-dye handkerchief- or not, they're not tie-dye.
- 27:10They're like- Yes.
- 27:11Call It By Your Name those Call It By Your Name.
- 27:14Yes.
- 27:14Yes.
- 27:15That's like that- That's a great replacement.
- 27:17That's a cute Those are very cute.
- 27:18Okay.
- 27:19Yes.
- 27:19Yes.
- 27:20Something a little bit more eclectic, I think, is fun, and I do think people are going to be moving more from a lot of those really big traditional brands.
- 27:28I'm starting to see a lot more niche brands and just, like, brands that kind of like more up and coming.
- 27:34I think people like to be more on the, like, discovery side.
- 27:38It kinda means something more to them.
- 27:40Oh, I love that.
- 27:41All right.
- 27:41What about the Van Cleef Alhambra and the Cartier Love Bracelets?
- 27:46Those are things that- Mm are forever.
- 27:48Are those still in, or are those out?
- 27:49Yes.
- 27:50I think you can hold onto them.
- 27:53There's definitely nothing wrong with them.
- 27:56They have reached a very high point of saturation.
- 27:59Mm-hmm.
- 27:59Um, I'll never forget, uh, I think it was the World Series with the Dodgers last season, and th- one of the, the guy I don't know any baseball players, so who knows what his name was.
- 28:09But he was wearing the Van, the Van Cleef Alhambra necklace, and I was like, oh, my gosh, this trend has already infiltrated into men.
- 28:16So I think it's, it's definitely reached a, a very high saturation point, and, and definitely hold onto them.
- 28:22They're, they're, you know, beautiful pieces, but I don't think they're necessarily super the most fresh, I should say.
- 28:28Okay.
- 28:28And you know what happens is I feel like when s- when we were talking about dupes before, and sometimes they can be a great thing, right?
- 28:35To, like, sample- Mm-hmm try it out.
- 28:37But then sometimes when it becomes duped where it's just absolutely everywhere and you can get a Cartier Love-looking bracelet on Amazon for$15- Yes it really loses how special it is, which is very unfortunate, as I still can't have had mine on for 15 years and can't get it off.
- 28:55But it's, it is, it's frustrating, you know?
- 28:58Yeah, totally agree with that, the, especially the Alhambra, like the clover shape.
- 29:02I mean, you can go into any TJ Maxx and see something that shape, and if you're paying a lot for the, the original one, it's probably frustrating to see a lot of people rock the, the TJ Maxx version.
- 29:13Yeah, it's just something that needs a, an update, so what about- Mm-hmm oversized blazers?
- 29:20Oversized blazers.
- 29:21I think- In general,'cause I feel like blazers is something that it's like one of the things that we were saying it, it comes in and out of style a lot, but it's- Yeah different.
- 29:31They're always different.
- 29:33It's true.
- 29:34I, I like an oversized blazer.
- 29:36I say keep.
- 29:37Mm-hmm.
- 29:37I think they're really chic when they're styled with, like, an elevated pair of shorts, like a trouser style short or a silk satin short, and then maybe a cute pair of boots or, uh, ballet flats.
- 29:49I think that looks really chic Okay, let's move into the socks that we were talking about.
- 29:54So the old school millennial no-show socks.
- 29:57It was like such a big deal when no-show socks were invented Right because we struggled with that before that, and then now we get shamed for wearing no-show socks.
- 30:06But what do you think about them?
- 30:08Right.
- 30:09I don't wear no-show socks anymore.
- 30:10Yeah.
- 30:11Again, I'm sure they will come back.
- 30:13I'm sure millennials will get shamed again for wearing like the longer socks now.
- 30:17That's just the, the cycle.
- 30:19I don't wear them.
- 30:20I think when you have a more visible sock, like a, a longer ankle or like a crew-type sock- Mm it just adds another texture to your outfit, when you can see them.
- 30:29I think that is a great way to add a little accessory.
- 30:32Sometimes I'll do a colored sock, even with a sneaker, and it just adds a little interest and flair, so I prefer a non no-show sock.
- 30:39I'm lo- I'm loving it because- I like a little ruffle sock.
- 30:42Yes, I love the ruffle sock.
- 30:42Yes, me too.
- 30:43Like, anything like ribbed texture, like anything like that is so great, and then it's so nice because we're in the cold, and so it's like, oh, we can actually wear pants, and if your ankle shows, then you have a sock to cover that portion.
- 30:56So I'm all about how practical that is.
- 30:58I just wish that- Absolutely a sock would be acceptable with like a pump seriously.
- 31:04What about ballet flats?
- 31:05Mm.
- 31:06I feel like that's one thing for me that like I was obsessed with in like the early 2000s, like when I was like in college- Oh, for sure with like a skinny jean.
- 31:13Then I feel like I, then I went into like the Tory Burch ones.
- 31:15Then we took a break.
- 31:15Mm-hmm.
- 31:15Remember the Tory Burch flats?
- 31:17Oh, yeah.
- 31:18Remember those?
- 31:18Oh, yes.
- 31:18The Revas.
- 31:19Love those.
- 31:19Into those for a while.
- 31:20Yep.
- 31:21Then I took a little break.
- 31:22Mm.
- 31:22Then I got my first pair of Chanel flats.
- 31:24Like, are ballerina flats still in?
- 31:27Ballet flats are so big.
- 31:29Yes, definitely get a pair of ballet flats for fall.
- 31:32I think that they look so good styled in so many ways.
- 31:34They look great with jeans.
- 31:36They look good with a skirt.
- 31:37I also think, to your point about Tory Burch, Tory Burch is gonna be coming back in a big way.
- 31:41I just, I can foresee it.
- 31:43She has some, uh, like Tory, like I'm on a first name basis.
- 31:47Love it.
- 31:48She has these really cool flats, and it's got like almost like a, think of like a pierced earring, like a, a loop, like a hoop through the shoe, and it's like a gold architectural look.
- 31:59Ooh.
- 31:59It's so cool, there's no logo.
- 32:01There's no Tory Burch, um, stamp on it or anything.
- 32:05It just looks really expensive, but I think it's somewhat affordable considering, you know, Tory Burch and excellent leather quality That's a great tip Good to know.
- 32:12What about barrel jeans?
- 32:14We talked about them a little bit.
- 32:15They're kind of like a silhouette that you see all over the place now.
- 32:19Definitely.
- 32:19Definitely hold onto the barrel jean.
- 32:21Keep wearing the barrel jean.
- 32:22I think it's, it's nice to have another style jean, right?
- 32:27Like, for so long we were just the skinny, and then we were just the flare, and then we were just the wide leg, and I think barrel is, like, a fun way to still wear your jeans, and it looks great, especially with, like, a l- I like to do a little bit more of a fitted top and then, like, a Samba or, like, a more streamlined shoe.
- 32:42Also looks really good with a pointed toe boot.
- 32:44And it just kind of- balances your look because I feel like barrel jeans, you know, they're wider, right?
- 32:49That's, that's the style of the jean.
- 32:51And then pair that with a more narrow shoe and it really balances itself out.
- 32:54It's great.
- 32:55Yeah.
- 32:55I like that you mentioned, balancing the way you dress for your body, you know?
- 33:00Mm-hmm.
- 33:00Mm-hmm.
- 33:00I think that's really sometimes underutilized.
- 33:04What about bodysuits?
- 33:05I always struggled with bodysuits because I love the streamlined look of them, but if you have a long torso like me, it always was so uncomfortable.
- 33:14I don't know if either of you guys have a long torso, but, like- Yeah things were pulling in places that they shouldn't.
- 33:20I prefer just, like, a more full-length top instead of a bodysuit.
- 33:24Let's end this with a French tuck, in or out?
- 33:26The millennial tuck.
- 33:29I say keep.
- 33:29Keep the French tuck.
- 33:31All right.
- 33:31Keep the French tuck.
- 33:33It looks elevated, it looks polished, and it's flattering.
- 33:37Like, it instantly just kind of brings your eye to your waist- Mm-hmm which is probably, you know, the most narrow part of your body.
- 33:43Again, with the balancing, I think the French tuck is still so in.
- 33:47I actually think it looks very classic.
- 33:50Like you used the word polished, it's a nice look.
- 33:53Yes.
- 33:53And a flattering look.
- 33:55Exactly.
- 33:56At the end of the day, we want, we still want something flattering.
- 33:58We shouldn't sacrifice trends for something that's not flattering.
- 34:02Mm-hmm.
- 34:03You talked about this a little bit earlier, Things that used to signal status maybe don't necessarily anymore.
- 34:09Some of these new brands that are maybe up and coming, and the specialness of those pieces are maybe what's trending now.
- 34:16So what do you think has changed?
- 34:19I think th- what's changed is the amount of oversaturation of information for all of us, right?
- 34:26Like, we are inundated with content, and shoes, clothes, jewelry, brands all the time.
- 34:38And so something that used to signal status, like a Birkin- Mm-hmm now a lot of people are saying, like,"The Birkin's dead." I, I personally don't think the Birkin is dead, but I understand why people are saying that because it just feels like, you know, there used to be an era of mystery around a Birkin in a way.
- 34:58People didn't understand that, like, oh, you had to have a, an Hermès sales associate, and a huge relationship, and spend all this money.
- 35:04There was kind of this gatekept sort of information about that, for better or for worse.
- 35:10And now all you have to do is type into any social media, and you can watch a billion videos on it.
- 35:16So I do think that that is why a lot of, things have changed about, about status symbols and brands being oversaturated.
- 35:28It's almost like social media to a certain extent almost is, like, the demise of some of these luxury goods.
- 35:34Yeah, because if you think about how fashion used to work, Before information could be spread as fast as it can now, it's like wildfire now, it used to have to take so much time for it to trickle down to the Marshalls and the TJ Maxx of the world.
- 35:48Like, the famous Miranda Priestly quote from Devil Wears Prada, right, where she's like,"Oh, it's You know, it starts here, and then it cycles down, and then it ends up in the clearance bin." But that used to- Yes take so long, and now the information spreads so fast.
- 36:03So I bet that shelf life of that happening is so much quicker.
- 36:07Like, now you're just seeing something over and over again, but it's not that old.
- 36:12It's, it's fairly new.
- 36:14We are just probably moving much, at a much quicker pace now, and it's oversaturation.
- 36:20things come and go quicker than they ever have before, so it's kinda like, eh, you know?
- 36:26It's almost like it loses- I think that's- the cool factor.
- 36:27It loses the cool fa- that's exactly what I mean.
- 36:29It loses the cool factor faster than it did before.
- 36:33I totally agree.
- 36:34I think, like the purchase cycle, it used to be more a, of like a slow climb on a mountain, right?
- 36:40Like, at the bottom of the mountain you would see...
- 36:42Let's see.
- 36:43I posted about this Birkenstock Repetto collab where it's like a Birkenstock that looks like a ballet- Mm-hmm shoe almost.
- 36:50And if you would've heard about that, let's say 10 years ago, you maybe would've, like, seen it in a store, or saw it on one person, and then maybe a few weeks later you would, you know, do some research, or you would see it somewhere else, like, right?
- 37:03It would be a very, very slow mountain until finally you got to the top, and you're like,"Okay, I think I wanna buy these." Whereas now, it's like a rollercoaster, right?
- 37:12Like, you, you see it.
- 37:14You see it on the internet.
- 37:15"Oh my gosh, I need to buy it.
- 37:16I need to buy it.
- 37:16I see everybody else." And boom, like, it's like these ups and downs that are really extreme.
- 37:21And I think that just makes things like luxury items, that doesn't quite work well for them because it's an investment.
- 37:28So if you're on the rollercoaster, nobody wants to be on, on a rollercoaster for an investment piece.
- 37:33So I think that that goes- Mm to what we were talking about before where do we know if we even genuinely like things anymore?
- 37:40It's like, how do we even know if we like things, or are we just being trained to like them'cause we see them all over the place?
- 37:46Like, I'm guilty of this because I'm an influencer, and I've been in this space for 15 years, and I have been a part of campaigns where everybody starts talking about something at the exact same time, and our job is to influence people to buy those things.
- 38:02So it's kind of fascinating kind of being on both ends of it because I'm also a consumer.
- 38:08Mm-hmm.
- 38:08But what do you think about that?
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:11I, I totally resonate with that.
- 38:13Do you guys remember seeing the J.Crew roll neck sweater?
- 38:16Like, I think it was only, like, a couple months ago, but now, like, we talked about it so, or I saw so many things on the internet, it feels like it was a year ago.
- 38:22Yep.
- 38:22And a lot of influencers, or a lot of models, a lot of people on the internet started posting about it at the same time, and it was a really cute sweater.
- 38:30But then it got pretty quick backlash because everyone was like,"Oh, well, it's just a sweater," and yet everybody's talking about it right now, and so that means I don't want it because it's, it's just gonna be a flash in the pan kind of thing.
- 38:42So it was just a really interesting way to look at something that, again, is that rollercoaster, and you're like,"Did I even want this roll neck sweater, or am I just seeing a, a billion images about it?" Mm-hmm.
- 38:56I think it gets tricky, too, as we were talking about those purchases where you maybe wanna try something, and some of those purchases I think are more dangerous when you're constantly buying the, quote-unquote,"cheaper version" of something because it's a little bit more mindless.
- 39:14You're like,"Sure, I'll give that a try.
- 39:15Sure, sure, sure." Like, you're saying yes to all these things.
- 39:18"I need it, I need it, I need it." Mm-hmm.
- 39:20And then really don't know what you're gonna do with that, how much use you're gonna get out of that, as opposed to really longing for something and knowing that you'll get a lot of use out of something, but you might hold back on that purchase because of how expensive it is or So it is such a tricky place, I I totally, I agree with that, and I think to our earlier conversations about we're all, we're all busy moms that want to get dressed quickly some days, a lot of days.
- 39:47So if we're still thinking about a J.Crew roll neck sweater maybe a month or so after we first saw it, hey, that could be a good sign that maybe it would fit into your lifestyle and maybe it would be a great purchase.
- 39:58But if you're a mom and you see that J.Crew roll neck sweater and a week later you're like,"Oh, whatever," you keep swiping past it, or you look in your closet and you see 10 other sweaters that maybe do about the same thing, then hey, maybe it's not the piece for you.
- 40:14I know.
- 40:14Mm-hmm.
- 40:14You really do have to kind of talk yourself down from quite a lot, you know?
- 40:19I know.
- 40:20Mm-hmm.
- 40:20What do you think is the 2026 version of the Tiffany Heart Necklace and the Coach Wristlet?
- 40:28Oh.
- 40:29Because that was the- Oh my gosh that was like the- Status symbols status symbol- Yep back in our day.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:35You know?
- 40:36Yes, absolutely.
- 40:38Oh, I wanted that Tiffany necklace so badly.
- 40:41I think for the bag- A croc embossed bag.
- 40:47A croc printed, croc textured bag is the bag for fall 2026.
- 40:53Chanel came out with a bunch of iterations on it, but you can get some great, mid-range or affordable range bags too, and it looks very expensive.
- 41:02My whole theme lately is, like, an everyday expensive look.
- 41:05Like, we don't have to spend a lot to look like we spent a lot.
- 41:09We don't have to spend a lot to look expensive.
- 41:12Mm-hmm.
- 41:13And I think the croc texture just really gives a little extra oomph, even if it's in black, which a lot of us like to wear black bags, right?
- 41:20Because it matches with everything.
- 41:22And if you have a little bit of a different texture like that, it really can change up your look.
- 41:26So I would say a croc embossed bag, and then I also really like a great necklace stack.
- 41:30Like, a more colorful, eclectic necklace stack I think adds a lot of interest to a simple outfit, because a lot of us like to wear simple outfits.
- 41:40A lot of us like to wear jeans and a top.
- 41:42A lot of us like to get dressed very quickly in the mornings.
- 41:44So if you can add a few pieces of flair, add a little bit of color to your outfit- Mm-hmm why not?
- 41:50So not the big statement chunkli- chunky necklace from like- 2009.
- 41:54The bubble necklaces.
- 41:56We're talking- Love that more like stacks of, like, some beaded, some gold, some, like, mixed metal.
- 42:02Exactly.
- 42:03Exactly.
- 42:03Like, some, some colorful beads.
- 42:05I think some paracords, maybe, like, a colorful pendant or even, like, a gold pendant.
- 42:10Mixing metals, mixing sizes.
- 42:12That can really add a lot.
- 42:14Do you have brand sites or anything that, like, you like to go to?
- 42:17I know,'cause there's, like, an art in stacking.
- 42:19I will definitely send you guys all the links.
- 42:21I think BaubleBar is doing a really great job.
- 42:23Yes.
- 42:24They make it so easy for bracelets, you're like,"Yes, I like how they styled that," and then you can envision it, cause it's hard with, like, different lengths and the different widths there, it really is, like, an art to it.
- 42:34Yeah, they can, they'll sell them or they'll show them on their website a lot with the stacking.
- 42:41They'll show you exactly how to pair, which is really helpful.
- 42:44And they also sell them together too, I think.
- 42:47But they have a great selection, colors, textures, and very affordable prices, and it's good quality.
- 42:53So let's get into- We're gonna- we're not gonna, we're not gonna, like, shit on any other generation because that's not- what we do here.
- 43:02But- Yes also, the Gen Zs of the world like to shit on us quite a lot.
- 43:07I actually just saw this, like, reel, and they- the girl- they were like, um, they were talking to, like, a group of d- of Gen Z girls, and they're like,"Who do you think has the worst style?" And she's like,"Millennials," as- she's in a spaghetti strap crop top, sweatpants, and UGG boots.
- 43:23And it was like,"Honey.""What?" Like, let me tell you something.
- 43:27Let me sit you down and show you pictures.
- 43:29But- I feel like with Gen Z, I tr- and I'm a v- very, very millennial woman.
- 43:35I, like, look at the Gen Zs, and I'm like,"You do your thing, and we do ours." You know?
- 43:40Like, we don't have to infringe, but you don't have to infringe.
- 43:43But I do think I like to look at it, like when we were talking about, like, people-watching.
- 43:48Like, I love- Mm-hmm to see.
- 43:50But what do you think that Gen Z gets right about fashion and beauty that maybe we didn't?
- 43:55Go easy on us.
- 43:58I do think one thing that Gen Z does right is they're very fearless.
- 44:04Yeah.
- 44:04They are not afraid to record a TikTok dance in front of a crowd.
- 44:11You know?
- 44:11They're- they're not afraid to try a trend.
- 44:14They're not afraid to get online in no makeup and post a full makeup tutorial.
- 44:20They're so fearless in the way they- they put things together.
- 44:23I think millennials, we like to be more polished.
- 44:27We like to be more perfect.
- 44:28We didn't grow up posting ourselves on the internet.
- 44:31We- a lot of us didn't do that until college or later.
- 44:34So it's a little bit, when, when we do post on the internet, we want it to be just right.
- 44:39We're like- And- perfectionists, right?
- 44:41Like- Exactly.
- 44:43Perfectionists.
- 44:44If we're called out in class, we had to stand up and read aloud.
- 44:47I don't think any Gen- I don't think they do that anymore.
- 44:50I know.
- 44:51I was actually surprised.
- 44:52My, my third grader just told me that she's learning cursive, and I was like,"What?
- 44:55They still teach that?" Wow.
- 44:57Oh my God.
- 44:58Yeah.
- 44:58I just watched a funny video, and it was this guy making fun of his kids learning cursive at school.
- 45:04And it was like,"You only learn cursive.
- 45:06When are you gonna learn that in life?" Yeah.
- 45:07"When you have to decorate a cake?" Yeah, I know.
- 45:12Yeah, I, I would love to know why they, why they teach that, but hey.
- 45:17That's, that's, that's above my pay grade.
- 45:20That's for the te- that's for the teacher.
- 45:20Yeah, yeah.
- 45:21What do you think that- Exactly millennials still do better?
- 45:25Ooh, better than Gen Z?
- 45:27Just better.
- 45:28What do we do better?
- 45:29Or what do we still have, like, a really good handle on?
- 45:32Beer pong.
- 45:33Yeah.
- 45:34Flip cup.
- 45:35Flip cup.
- 45:36Right?
- 45:37I do think that millennials, to our point about wanting to be polished and show up perfect, like, I live pretty close to a middle school and a high school, so I do see a lot of Gen Z kids.
- 45:47They wear pajamas all the time.
- 45:49Wow.
- 45:50They wear pajama pants everywhere.
- 45:53And, like, when's the last time you saw a millennial truly wearing a pair of pajama pants out and about?
- 45:58Right.
- 45:59Couldn't even tell you.
- 45:59Couldn't even tell you.
- 46:00Like, we're, we know to, when to put ourselves together and when to show up, and when it's okay to, you know, look homeless inside of our homes.
- 46:07Right.
- 46:08So we can all give ourselves a pat on the back for that.
- 46:10Yeah.
- 46:11Yeah.
- 46:14What is something that, and then we'll, and then we'll, like, lighten up.
- 46:18But- Mm-hmm what is something that Gen Z can pry from our cold, dead hands?
- 46:22Like, what are we not giving up as millennials?
- 46:26Hmm.
- 46:27Let's see.
- 46:29Oh, I, I know something that they can pry from my cold, dead hands.
- 46:33What is that?
- 46:33High-waisted leggings- Yeah and high-waisted jeans.
- 46:37High-waisted anything.
- 46:39I agree.
- 46:39I'm never, I'm never going back.
- 46:40I, I mean, never say never, but I'm not.
- 46:43I'm really not.
- 46:44Because you know what?
- 46:45Again, with the cyclical, right?
- 46:46Like, the low-rise came back, and it was like- Mm you didn't have low-rise the same way.
- 46:51Like, your low-rise are baggy.
- 46:53They are not tight.
- 46:55They're not uncomfortable.
- 46:56No.
- 46:57You didn't have to suffer the same way we did.
- 46:59Oh my gosh.
- 47:00I remember wearing, like, my, in college or ar- around there, the super low-waist.
- 47:05Like, your zipper would be, like, half an inch.
- 47:08Yeah.
- 47:08Like, True Religion jeans, and I would, like, have to work to get those babies on, and then you couldn't, you only could stand in them.
- 47:14Like, you couldn't sit.
- 47:16You couldn't bend down.
- 47:17You couldn't s- like, squat.
- 47:18You were just, you were standing.
- 47:20It was a standing day.
- 47:21Yeah.
- 47:21I think for me, my answer would be kitten heels right now, and it's because we did our service being in the six-inch platform heels.
- 47:32We're done.
- 47:33And if a kitten heel's ever out of style, I don't care.
- 47:36I- Like, that's how I- I need to get footage of me and my sister-in-law dancing at a club.
- 47:40Yeah.
- 47:40And I was wearing True Religion studded jeans with the, you know, one-inch zipper in a very- embarrassing, dancing to the song, Apple Bottom Jeans- Yeah.
- 47:51Yes with the fur.
- 47:52Yes.
- 47:53Oh my God.
- 47:54Yes.
- 47:54And trying to, like, get down with her- yeah and, like, not being able to move because of my jeans and shoes.
- 48:00And that's another thing that we did better.
- 48:02We were actually, like, dancing and living life at the club- Oh my gosh blissfully unaware that anybody would be recording us or, like, that this is gonna- Yes come back to haunt us.
- 48:12So we actually did that pretty well.
- 48:14I, I'm so, grateful that we didn't have social media back then, or it wasn't, as prevalent.
- 48:20We, I think we really, uh, got lucky on that one.
- 48:23Let's talk about the future now.
- 48:25What are trends that we're starting to see that you think will be everywhere in six months?
- 48:31I think, do you guys know those headbands that have, like, the teeth in them, like the plastic?
- 48:37Mm-hmm.
- 48:37They're almost like a zigzag look.
- 48:38Oh.
- 48:38Do you remember those where it went like this?
- 48:40Yes.
- 48:40Yes.
- 48:41I've started to see those more, and I think that those will be a really big trend- That's fun for this upcoming season.
- 48:47Wow.
- 48:47I used to be obsessed with those.
- 48:47Yeah.
- 48:48Yeah, those were nice.
- 48:49And, and they're practical.
- 48:50I love a trend that is back, and I'm like,"Oh, you know what?
- 48:53That makes sense.
- 48:54Another one I'm starting to see a lot of, I go to this gym, it's like a small gym, and there's a lot of very cool Gen Z girls, so I'm always like,"Oh, well, you know, what's going on over there?" And they have started to wear capris a lot to work out, like capri leggings for working out.
- 49:11Shorter leggings instead of the full-length leggings like we've all been wearing.
- 49:15Exactly.
- 49:16The shorter leggings, and then they also wear a lot of wide-leg pants to work out in.
- 49:22Which I, that makes me a little nervous because I'm like, what if I'm...
- 49:25I feel like I would trip or something, and it feels like I would get caught on a machine or on the treadmill or something, and then I would highly embarrass myself.
- 49:33I just bought the Vuori wide-leg pants in the halo print, and they are so comfortable, but they're like pajamas.
- 49:41I could never imagine wearing them to, like, barre or Pilates.
- 49:44When I'm, moving my leg back and forth, the pant just goes like this.
- 49:48I know.
- 49:48I see it more, they're wearing the, it's like a legging material.
- 49:52Not the, I love the Vuori halo.
- 49:54It's so soft, but this is more like, think a legging material but in a wide-leg form.
- 49:58A brand that I really love and see a lot of is Oner Active, O-N-E-R.
- 50:04And they have this really flattering wide-leg activewear pant that they're starting to get a lot of traction for, and it, um, they're good.
- 50:12What, what socks are we wearing with capri workout leggings then?
- 50:17Great question.
- 50:17I see it with a shorter, like, just, some people call ankle socks where it goes below your ankle bone, and then some people call ankle socks where it goes above.
- 50:26I say the one where it goes up, right above your ankle bone, so like a crew.
- 50:30A crew, okay.
- 50:31Mm-hmm.
- 50:32Okay.
- 50:32So I'm hearing a lot that shorter socks can be in with some of these trends this year.
- 50:37Yes, I think so.
- 50:38I, I like that crew length.
- 50:41I think that's a more everyday, goes with everything I want you to de-influence us.
- 50:46Mm.
- 50:46Yes.
- 50:47So what is a viral product that you think gets more hype than it deserves?
- 50:53I am gonna de-influence you from the, Celine did it first, sunglasses, where it's the gold, like, wire gold rim, and then it's got the big gold side.
- 51:05I don't think those are...
- 51:07I would retire those, or I would not invest in them.
- 51:10Uh, you see Amazon versions all the time that are, I don't wanna say just as good, but you see Amazon versions all the time, and I don't think that is a product worthy of spending several hundred dollars on.
- 51:22Another thing I would de-influence you from, as somebody that lives in Newport Beach, and this used to be so huge, is the really big lip filler trend.
- 51:32I think that's on its way out, and I'm, I have to say I'm kind of happy about.
- 51:35Because some people, not, not most, but some people would take that way too far.
- 51:39I'm sure you guys have seen that in your real life.
- 51:42And I started to see a lot of, a lot of information out there where it was like,"Oh, a lot of that filler will, can migrate, or it can go to other places." And when it gets to be, like, that super voluminous fake lip feeling, I just, I don't think that that's worth, um, spending thousands on.
- 52:01I think that the filler in general is just on its decline.
- 52:05Mm-hmm.
- 52:06Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
- 52:07So we did some de-influencing.
- 52:09Mm-hmm.
- 52:09Let's give us re-influencing.
- 52:12Mm-hmm.
- 52:12What is a fall trend you think we all need to try?
- 52:17Okay.
- 52:17So to my point about de-influencing you from the Celine sunglasses, I have a little, little Amazon hack that I swear by.
- 52:26If you go to Amazon, and you go to their new releases page, you can filter by sunglasses, and they always have the best designer-inspired items on there.
- 52:38It's key that it's the new releases page because a lot of times with dupe-type items, they'll kind of, like, get kicked off or unlisted or relisted.
- 52:46So if you go on the new releases page, they're just coming onto Amazon, and they have the best lookalike versions, the best designer-inspired, and, like, unique, trendy sunglasses on there.
- 52:57Have you done it for anything else other than sunglasses, or is it just for sunglasses?
- 53:02I have.
- 53:03I've done it for clothes, but I do feel like Amazon is very hit-and-miss for clothes.
- 53:08You can absolutely score some amazing pieces on there.
- 53:11I have found...
- 53:12This summer, I found this amazing Dolan lookalike dress, and it was 100% cotton, so it was great quality.
- 53:18But I also found in that search, like, five dresses that were absolutely terrible.
- 53:24One looked like a hospital dress on me.
- 53:26One was, like, weirdly sticky.
- 53:28It's very hit-and-miss, so I think you have to be careful on there, and I try to always post my, my Amazon successes and fails.
- 53:35But that one is a little bit trickier for clothes.
- 53:38I have another one I could reinfluence you on.
- 53:40Tell us.
- 53:41I will reinfluence you on a press-on nail.
- 53:46Yes.
- 53:47Yes.
- 53:47Do you guys press on nail?
- 53:48I gave myself a big break, Mm-hmm starting in June.
- 53:52I just took them off, like rage took them off, had to take them off.
- 53:55Yeah.
- 53:55And then I was in a wedding for my brother and my sister-in-law, and I was like,"I do need something on my nails." And I did press-on nails, and they lasted for a couple days, then they came off.
- 54:05It was like the best- Oh, my gosh in the world.
- 54:07So tell us, which one?
- 54:08I, okay, I love them.
- 54:10I have really good success with them.
- 54:12I'll tell you a few favorite brands too, but I get them to last multiple weeks, like two to three weeks usually.
- 54:18And it's such a game changer for me because I go to the salon still for pedicures'cause I, I just don't wanna deal with all that for my feet.
- 54:26But- That's a nice experience.
- 54:28That's self-care.
- 54:28You know?
- 54:29Right.
- 54:29Yes.
- 54:30Yes, exactly.
- 54:31But I don't really wanna spend the time every, you know, couple weeks to do the manicure a lot of times.
- 54:36Again, we're busy moms.
- 54:38We have a lot going on.
- 54:39So if I'm able to just sit down at night after my kids have gone to bed, 8:00 PM, I'm watching a show with my husband, and I just whip out my little press-on nail kit and just bup bup bup bup bup, and it's, like, such a game changer for me.
- 54:51I really like the Chillhouse brand at Target, also online, the Olive June brand, and the Celebritips brand.
- 55:01Not that I wanna, like, put nail salons out of business or anything, but I feel like that's just one thing that I hope takes off, is just the, to release the pressure of feeling like you have to get your nails done.
- 55:13That's how I was feeling, and I was like- Mm-hmm It really benefiting anyone except for me?" Like, and it's really not.
- 55:19And I was like,"Do I even care?" Because it's- You're right it's so expensive.
- 55:23It's so time-consuming.
- 55:25You cannot multitask when you're there.
- 55:27And so I felt so free when I just gave it up, and I've had people- Well, and now that they look healthy, you don't wanna put- Mm-hmm them back on- No cause then you'd have to start over again.
- 55:37Right.
- 55:37But the press-on nail is the perfect remedy.
- 55:39Do you glue them on?
- 55:40Yeah.
- 55:41Or how do you put them on?
- 55:41Yes, so I, I glue them on, and then I got this amazing tip from one of my followers.
- 55:46She DM'd me.
- 55:47And, you know, like, your, like, a chip clip, like a, like a little clip that you'd put on a bag of chips.
- 55:52Mm-hmm.
- 55:52So you glue on your nail, right?
- 55:54You press it on, hold it for, like, a minute.
- 55:56Like, use your own finger to squeeze the, the nail on really tightly, but then take the chip clip and put it on the nail you just did because it holds the tension for, you know, a few more minutes as you do your next nail.
- 56:09Oh.
- 56:09And so then as many chip clips as you have, you can keep going, and it will hold the nail on while you're still moving on to your other nails.
- 56:16I thought that was genius.
- 56:17I love that.
- 56:18Any particular glue?
- 56:20I usually just, I use the glue that I like in those, uh, brands, that come in the package.
- 56:25Perfect.
- 56:25Because I feel like it works best with the nail that they have designed.
- 56:29Interesting.
- 56:29Don't have to get fa- fancy.
- 56:31Okay.
- 56:31Chip clips- Mm-hmm.
- 56:33comes in the package.
- 56:34I love it.
- 56:35Right?
- 56:35I think it's genius.
- 56:36And any time that we can get, like, a few minutes back on our own schedule,'cause then we're not on, making an appointment at the salon, da, da, da, da, da.
- 56:43We're, we're doing it on our own time, and I think that helps us a ton.
- 56:48Yes.
- 56:48I love that.
- 56:48This has been so helpful.
- 56:50We appreciate all of your wisdom and helping all of us busy moms and just women as we're getting a little bit older, just help us feel our best.
- 57:01Sometimes you just need a little refresher on what's going on.
- 57:05But we close out our s- all of our episodes with our pink spotlight, which is our person, place, thing, tip, mantra, anything making life a little bit better for this week.
- 57:16T, do you have one for us this week?
- 57:18I do.
- 57:19I shared this on my socials the other day.
- 57:21So- My mom, so I'm Italian, I don't even know if that matters, but my mom and my grandmother are great cooks, and I have memories of, being at my grandmother's house and her with, like, a little TV on in the kitchen watching soap operas all day, cooking.
- 57:36And, like, when I say all day, she would start at, like, 9:00 AM and cook until 3:00 PM.
- 57:41Like, there would just be, like, revolving cooking going on all day.
- 57:44And my mom would do the same, so she was here last week, and she was doing that.
- 57:49She was in my kitchen watching TV and cooking.
- 57:51I'm like,"Why don't I do that anymore?
- 57:53Watch a show while I, like, cook something?" Right.
- 57:56So I started doing that again, just, standing in my kitchen, watching a show, and cooking, you know, meals for later, cooking for a day or two, and it is so calming to do something that you used to love to do that you stopped doing probably because you started doing something else that you don't even really like doing.
- 58:12And it just kinda makes feeding my family a little bit more enjoyable.
- 58:17And I don't know, it's also, a nice pause in the middle of the day.
- 58:20Yeah.
- 58:20Like, while I'm cooking lunch for myself or cleaning up from breakfast, I just quickly put on a show and I cook dinner for later.
- 58:26I love that.
- 58:27I love that.
- 58:27I was hoping that was gonna be your pink spot light.
- 58:29Yeah.
- 58:29When you told me that you did that the other day- Yeah I was like,"What a nice thing." I mean, my mom actually even replied to my story, and she goes,"I learned that from my mom." And I'm like,"I know, and I learned it from you." So- But then you don't feel like you're in a rush, right?
- 58:41Yeah.
- 58:41'Cause it's like you hate feeling...
- 58:43it's nice to feel like you ha- you're, like, spending a little time.
- 58:46It's a little self-care.
- 58:47Yeah.
- 58:47Well,'cause I'd be scrolling on my phone and throwing something in, and I'm like,"No, I'm gonna put on a show- Trying to multitask.
- 58:52Right.
- 58:53Oh, I love that and cook our dinner." I love that.
- 58:55So- Just enjoying the, those little moments that you have to do, but just making them a little bit more enjoyable for you.
- 59:00Love that.
- 59:01Yeah.
- 59:01Yeah.
- 59:02So mine this week is gonna be a little duo product.
- 59:05So I started using my favorite lash serum, which is by Rodan Fields.
- 59:09I used that before I was pregnant.
- 59:11Mm-hmm.
- 59:11And then there's been some products that I'm like,"I'm no longer pregnant.
- 59:15I can use these products that, really do what they're supposed to do," and I'm, like, going in the archive of, what did I used to do before getting pregnant?
- 59:22'Cause then I was always using, pregnancy safe things.
- 59:25And Rodan Fields is by far the best lash serum ever.
- 59:29Mm-hmm.
- 59:29And then I did a color analysis on myself about a year ago, and everything for me was, like, chocolate brown everything, and I switched my mascara to brown, and now I wear strictly brown mascara.
- 59:42And so that combo, I have a new one that's a tubing one by Merit, and it is so good.
- 59:46It's, like, the perfect shade of brown, and it's, almost like a black-y brown.
- 59:51So I- Your lashes look so long.
- 59:53This is the f- this is what I've been using for about a month.
- 59:55Oh, it looks really pretty.
- 59:56And I'm like, wow, all of a sudden I looked at- Very natural look yeah, but I looked at my lashes and I was like,"Oh, it's working.
- 1:00:00Oh, it's back to working." So they're popping.
- 1:00:03Don't you love that- Ooh when it finally starts working and you're like,"Yes, results." Yes.
- 1:00:09Yes.
- 1:00:10I wanna try that mascara now.
- 1:00:12What about you?
- 1:00:14Okay, so mine is a hair thing.
- 1:00:17I, I have pretty long and thick hair, and I've spent, I don't know, a million hours, like, watching tutorials, trying to do, like, the, um, the hot rollers.
- 1:00:29Like, have you seen people where they're doing the, the hot roller method and they have hot rollers all over their head?
- 1:00:33And because I have a lot of hair, that takes me, like, an hour.
- 1:00:37And I've watched so many tutorials, and I'm like,"Oh, this is so, like, s- just frustrating and annoying, and I don't wanna do this on a regular basis." And I just got the, the SharkNinja Ion FlexStyle.
- 1:00:50It's one of those, like, kind of like Dyson-type, uh, curlers.
- 1:00:53It's like the Airwrap.
- 1:00:55And I am forever changed because it's literally, it's the only thing you need.
- 1:00:59I don't need hot rollers.
- 1:01:01I don't need a curling iron.
- 1:01:02I just start with my wet hair, and I use that thing to blow-dry it, and then I just bup, bup, bup.
- 1:01:07It grabs the hair on its own, and it's done in probably, like, 15 minutes, and it lasts for days.
- 1:01:12The new version is dries faster, and it uses this, ion technology.
- 1:01:17It's, it really is a game-changer for my hair.
- 1:01:19Oh, my gosh.
- 1:01:19I love the FlexStyle too, so now that's- Yeah you're gonna influence me to upgrade mine.
- 1:01:24Yes, yes.
