- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The World's a big podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: This is a judgment call on the nflpa's part that
- 0:22Speaker 3: they believe that this could be perceived as mandatory. Give
- 0:26Speaker 3: me a break about.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Asking some players, did you think there was this mandatory?
- 0:29Speaker 3: No, Okay, I would have some choice words for the
- 0:31Speaker 3: whistle bar.
- 0:32Speaker 4: So risk guy, you can't have retaliation.
- 0:34Speaker 5: I'm feeling pressured. I'm feeling like I have to be there,
- 0:38Speaker 5: the only one that the course.
- 0:40Speaker 3: A baby what a baby thing? You have to go
- 0:43Speaker 3: to a fifteen minute meeting.
- 0:45Speaker 6: Because if you if you're talking about Ferkser or Kendrick
- 0:48Speaker 6: Bourne right right, and they're just don't name your kid
- 0:52Speaker 6: a name for like a child name, you know what
- 0:55Speaker 6: I mean, Like Cody, give me the name that he
- 0:57Speaker 6: can live with.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Jay, send Jackie James. So they kept with
- 1:02Speaker 3: the Jays, which I like, I have.
- 1:05Speaker 7: Learned so much from you guys listening to your podcast.
- 1:07Speaker 8: Now I can watch a game and go.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Let're and cover two.
- 1:11Speaker 9: Paul can't.
- 1:12Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered fueled by Duncan.
- 1:18Speaker 4: All right, welcome to Patriots Philters Unfiltered. It is Tuesday
- 1:22Speaker 4: here at Jillette Stadium, and oh my god, we had
- 1:25Speaker 4: just one of the most great pregame show of all time.
- 1:29Speaker 10: I just had to separate Evan and Paul. For those that.
- 1:33Speaker 9: Team Alex, by the way, divorce yourself from it.
- 1:36Speaker 4: It had nothing to do with the Patriots. Obviously. The
- 1:38Speaker 4: Celtics better last. Everybody's pissy. We just had an epic one.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Maybe we'll talk about Celtics a little later, but uh, yes,
- 1:47Speaker 4: it is Patriots Unfiltered. Deuce is here, Alex is here, Evan, Paul, myself,
- 1:51Speaker 4: Matt's in the booth, and we're gonna get to watch
- 1:54Speaker 4: an O t A tomorrow hopefully hopefully, yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 9: I hope.
- 1:57Speaker 5: So yeah, nice weather. We had nice Memorial Day.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I mean, the Patriots lost two of their ota, so
- 2:03Speaker 4: we lost a chance to watch one last week. They
- 2:06Speaker 4: were supposed to be out on the field today, but
- 2:09Speaker 4: they're serving the second of their two loss and we'll
- 2:12Speaker 4: be out there with them tomorrow, so looking forward to that.
- 2:15Speaker 5: We'll watch them. I think we got a little clarity
- 2:16Speaker 5: too after our show on Thursday of like more things
- 2:19Speaker 5: came out of Yeah happened with I don't know.
- 2:21Speaker 9: I don't even know.
- 2:22Speaker 5: I've kind of lost track now, like they like like
- 2:24Speaker 5: Joe Judge had them in a meeting too long, and.
- 2:26Speaker 4: It's it's still you got to blame you know, the Patriots.
- 2:29Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, it was more more blame than we
- 2:32Speaker 9: kind of thought.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just shadow log. Yeah, not paying attention. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 4: you've got four hours. You can do whatever you want
- 2:38Speaker 4: those four hours, minus pads and hitting. But they weren't
- 2:43Speaker 4: paying attention apparently, and it sounds like it wasn't the
- 2:45Speaker 4: first time. It sounds like this was something that they
- 2:47Speaker 4: had been doing this.
- 2:49Speaker 9: You know, three days in a row according to the.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Yeah, so just just not buttoned up.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Well that was what was weird, because I think it
- 2:56Speaker 5: was three days in a row, and I'd read that
- 2:58Speaker 5: they were warned and they kept doing it. But then
- 3:00Speaker 5: the initial reporting was that the NFL said all the
- 3:03Speaker 5: Patriots were you know, they they were very cooperative, and
- 3:05Speaker 5: I'm like, well, wouldn't a cooperative been like just stop
- 3:08Speaker 5: doing it initially and.
- 3:09Speaker 9: Then you won't have the thing like like you kept
- 3:11Speaker 9: pushing it. And then they then they finally came down
- 3:12Speaker 9: and Union then you were cooperative.
- 3:14Speaker 5: So I don't know, I just like to put it
- 3:16Speaker 5: behind us.
- 3:17Speaker 9: And but as I said on the on the show last.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Week, just another thing the team doesn't need. A lack
- 3:21Speaker 5: of attention to detail is something that you never thought
- 3:23Speaker 5: around here would will continue to pop its head up
- 3:26Speaker 5: on the field much less, you know, middle of OTAs
- 3:28Speaker 5: where they're you know, not subscribing to the timelinit And you.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Know, Bill, you know, puts a lot of value into
- 3:34Speaker 4: these opportunities to you know, set the groundwork, you know,
- 3:38Speaker 4: make sure that you're stacking days and guys are getting
- 3:44Speaker 4: you know, the attention and the teaching that they need
- 3:46Speaker 4: so that you go into mini camp ready to go.
- 3:48Speaker 4: You're going to training camp ready to go. So you know,
- 3:51Speaker 4: it's it's not a good thing. You know, it's not
- 3:53Speaker 4: the end of the world. It's not a huge thing.
- 3:55Speaker 4: But it's just what are we doing? A Bill? What
- 3:58Speaker 4: are we doing?
- 3:58Speaker 5: Bill got a fine too, right, five hundred fifty fifty
- 4:02Speaker 5: numbers are hard numbers.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Two words we're a little fired up.
- 4:06Speaker 9: Zero. The math is, well they should have made it
- 4:08Speaker 9: five words hard.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Yeah, so he's got fifty thousand. They lost the team
- 4:13Speaker 4: might have gotten one hundred thousand.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I think no, I don't think the team got. The
- 4:17Speaker 3: team didn't get Okay, sometimes they do, but in this case.
- 4:20Speaker 9: Yeah, I think that's right. How does that work? You
- 4:22Speaker 9: just cut a check from your own personal checking.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Or is it all right?
- 4:25Speaker 10: And they just come out of here?
- 4:27Speaker 9: Just the report he has sixteen days to pay it?
- 4:29Speaker 5: Like what when you come up with sixteen days or what?
- 4:32Speaker 4: Somebody for the NFL comes and breaks his fingers.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Collection, I need Rocky Balbo on the docks his money.
- 4:40Speaker 5: He's gonna box somebody bill since.
- 4:43Speaker 4: One way or the other, we're going to get this money. Okay.
- 4:47Speaker 9: I just thought it was weird one of the stories,
- 4:51Speaker 9: just like he has sixteen days. Well, I don't know.
- 4:53Speaker 9: It had close to home.
- 4:54Speaker 5: I was like, could I come up with fifty K
- 4:56Speaker 5: and sixteen sixteen days?
- 4:57Speaker 9: I don't think so. No, No, well, maybe spent two
- 5:00Speaker 9: years of work.
- 5:01Speaker 10: If you went to a bank and tried to take
- 5:03Speaker 10: out that amount of money, like if that's the way
- 5:05Speaker 10: you had to do it, like.
- 5:06Speaker 9: Take it up. I didn't have to do it.
- 5:08Speaker 10: The bank would have to be like, well.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Is there like Ami, is there some financing?
- 5:17Speaker 4: Like remember the time that I got a FedEx from
- 5:22Speaker 4: the league and I was fined one hundred thousand dollars.
- 5:24Speaker 9: Do remember that? What happened?
- 5:26Speaker 4: Well, I, you know, we used to have the newspaper
- 5:30Speaker 4: and it was the year that the refs were on
- 5:33Speaker 4: strike and they had the scab refs, and I think
- 5:38Speaker 4: it was the Baltimore Ravens game if they had a
- 5:41Speaker 4: bad game. So I put on the cover are you
- 5:45Speaker 4: ref and kidding me? And it was like one of
- 5:47Speaker 4: the plays, and I got this fed X from the
- 5:50Speaker 4: league because you know, you're not supposed to criticize the refs,
- 5:54Speaker 4: and they considered that the newspaper part of the team.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I got a FedEx that I was being fined a
- 5:59Speaker 4: hunt one thousand dollars. So I was like, I was pissed.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I was like, are you kidding me? And I had
- 6:06Speaker 4: a meeting to go to, but I made it clear
- 6:08Speaker 4: that as soon as that meeting was over, I was
- 6:10Speaker 4: calling the league, and you know, eman somebody out and uh,
- 6:15Speaker 4: I guess, you know, somebody believed that I was actually
- 6:17Speaker 4: going to do that, and fest up that the whole
- 6:19Speaker 4: thing was a prank. Who Brian Maury did a great job.
- 6:25Speaker 4: They had the whole FedEx envelope. They had the return address,
- 6:29Speaker 4: you know, Park Avenue, and uh.
- 6:32Speaker 9: What made it believable? What made it is he had
- 6:38Speaker 9: been similarly reprimanded in the past.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Yeah, like Brian was aware of I'm assuming and trauma.
- 6:46Speaker 9: Fred had been notified by the league office about something
- 6:49Speaker 9: else years prior to this, which I think made it
- 6:53Speaker 9: have an air of believable.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I was called a pain in the ass by Joe Brown,
- 6:57Speaker 4: who was used to be like the head PR guy
- 6:59Speaker 4: for the NFL, which I wore as a badge of honor,
- 7:01Speaker 4: so you know. But yeah, but that was that was interesting.
- 7:06Speaker 9: One hundred thousand. Yeah, so you're ready.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Did it ever?
- 7:10Speaker 11: Did at any point where you like I actually this
- 7:15Speaker 11: were you just like no way and help?
- 7:17Speaker 4: I knew I was fighting, but but like the fact
- 7:20Speaker 4: that they thought I was going to have to pissed
- 7:23Speaker 4: me off.
- 7:24Speaker 12: You know.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I was like, I'm calm and I think I had
- 7:26Speaker 4: a meeting, so I I said that as I was
- 7:28Speaker 4: going out of the office, I'm I'm you know, you can't.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Just go around finding random people though, right, like you're
- 7:33Speaker 5: not officially with the NFL, Like.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Well, how do they know?
- 7:36Speaker 7: Right?
- 7:36Speaker 4: I mean, I'm you know.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Now I'm thinking for myself, I'm like, am I going
- 7:39Speaker 5: to write something wrong?
- 7:40Speaker 2: No?
- 7:40Speaker 4: I meant they consider all of us part of the Patriots,
- 7:45Speaker 4: even though we're technically not. We're not paid by the Patriots.
- 7:49Speaker 4: You know, if I was working for the Patriots, I'd
- 7:52Speaker 4: have a nice little pension waiting for me, which I
- 7:54Speaker 4: don't you know, which kind of bothers No anyway, but no,
- 7:59Speaker 4: we no tech clear, don't we paved the way for
- 8:06Speaker 4: you guys. Let's go. We don't work for the Patriots
- 8:09Speaker 4: or the NFL, but we're an affiliate and you know
- 8:12Speaker 4: there's some things that you know kind of do apply
- 8:16Speaker 4: to us.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it was credit to Brian Moory. Now I'm thinking
- 8:20Speaker 5: of how we could get Evan with something like this.
- 8:23Speaker 10: We'd had to do a prank every season, and the.
- 8:25Speaker 9: Picture was the one that builds kind of like grabbing
- 8:28Speaker 9: the guy in the way off remember the field goal
- 8:31Speaker 9: and went right over the upright and.
- 8:34Speaker 3: It was that day kind of looked like did you.
- 8:36Speaker 10: Get upset or were you a good sport about it?
- 8:38Speaker 9: That's when Bill had a bake sale. Bill had his
- 8:40Speaker 9: first bake sale to make the uprights higher.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Well, I was a great sport. I thought it was masterful.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I thought he did a great job.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Did you think about keeping it going and like playing
- 8:49Speaker 5: continuing to play into it even though you knew he he.
- 8:53Speaker 4: He heard me say I'm calling the league and he's like,
- 8:55Speaker 4: oh god, I gotta tell him, Like he got nervous
- 8:58Speaker 4: because he knew I was going They.
- 9:00Speaker 10: Should have got ownership involved. Oura case sits you down.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Well, they told he told Jonathan he was going to
- 9:06Speaker 4: do it. John was like he was all.
- 9:07Speaker 5: For it, and then they really find you for messing around.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah great, but yeah, fun. So these fines I don't know,
- 9:16Speaker 4: like like do you just write a check? Do you
- 9:19Speaker 4: take it out of your payroll deduction? I'm sure probably
- 9:22Speaker 4: it just comes right out of your probably over like
- 9:24Speaker 4: ten years, you know.
- 9:25Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. Is there like a financing like
- 9:28Speaker 3: zero payment plan?
- 9:30Speaker 9: Yeah, thousand dollars give you one hundred grand?
- 9:32Speaker 4: What am I?
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 9:34Speaker 9: Kind of money for it?
- 9:35Speaker 10: Well, there's payment plans for everything now, Like you can
- 9:38Speaker 10: go on Amazon.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I know what.
- 9:39Speaker 11: I bought a flight last night and it was like,
- 9:41Speaker 11: you can pay for this flight over the course of the.
- 9:43Speaker 10: Next sixty six months for eighteen dollars a month, and
- 9:46Speaker 10: I'm like, really, wow, flights.
- 9:49Speaker 3: There's like third party yeah, like a firm, yeah, firm,
- 9:53Speaker 3: and like these third party financing things that you don't.
- 9:57Speaker 10: Roping these poor people and that don't understand how interest works,
- 10:00Speaker 10: just getting them trapped.
- 10:02Speaker 3: That's me anyways.
- 10:05Speaker 4: So other than the ot on tomorrow in us being
- 10:11Speaker 4: able to watch, you know what, do we any headlines?
- 10:15Speaker 4: Any news stories?
- 10:16Speaker 5: I say, just first, who's out there? I think that's
- 10:18Speaker 5: always interesting. Who's still recovering from stuff?
- 10:20Speaker 13: Who?
- 10:20Speaker 9: You know? I don't.
- 10:21Speaker 5: I don't think it's that big of a deal if
- 10:23Speaker 5: guys don't come to VOLUNTARYO two a's, But I do
- 10:25Speaker 5: think it's noteworthy if guys, particularly young players who need
- 10:28Speaker 5: this time to develop aren't there. We know on one
- 10:31Speaker 5: use is not going to be there based on was
- 10:33Speaker 5: that a report report?
- 10:35Speaker 9: Yeah? So I don't know. Those are just off the
- 10:37Speaker 9: top of my head. Normally I always look at veteran newcomers,
- 10:40Speaker 9: but they don't really have a ton of those kasiki
- 10:43Speaker 9: you know. This year, you know, they were a handful
- 10:45Speaker 9: of like Juju KASICKI, you know, Chris Board, but they
- 10:49Speaker 9: didn't They've all been around to like you the year
- 10:52Speaker 9: that they had all the you know, it was that
- 10:54Speaker 9: twenty one, Yeah, the new Some of those guys were
- 10:59Speaker 9: sporad in attendance at those OTAs. That to me is
- 11:02Speaker 9: always kind of interesting to see who feels comfortable enough
- 11:07Speaker 9: not to be at something as a first year guy.
- 11:09Speaker 9: But I don't think we have too many of those. Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 9: I think you'll see, you know, certainly Juju and KASICKI
- 11:15Speaker 9: I think you'll see those two guys based on what
- 11:17Speaker 9: we've been hearing about them working with Mac Jones and whatnot. Yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 9: yeah he even went. Ki even went with Mac Jones
- 11:23Speaker 9: to the.
- 11:24Speaker 10: Swift together with Hunter Henry and Yeah, I think it's
- 11:29Speaker 10: all about Mac and Bill O'Brien.
- 11:31Speaker 3: To me, like, just what does Mac look like? What
- 11:34Speaker 3: even not even throwing, Just what does he look like?
- 11:37Speaker 3: His demeanor? Is he happy again? You know? He smiling
- 11:40Speaker 3: because bouncing up and down.
- 11:43Speaker 9: I I'm hoping that we see what we want to
- 11:46Speaker 9: see from what Evan's talking about, and then we do
- 11:48Speaker 9: not have to watch that again. I remember last year,
- 11:51Speaker 9: like that's all we had to you know, Max not
- 11:53Speaker 9: talking to Joe Judge, not Max talking to Matt Patrician
- 11:56Speaker 9: while he's over with Bill, not like I just want
- 11:58Speaker 9: to see him and Bill over iron like the first
- 12:01Speaker 9: day tomorrow that we get out there, and then I
- 12:02Speaker 9: never have to worry about, Yeah, who's talking to Mac Jones?
- 12:06Speaker 4: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, it should be just apparent Mac
- 12:10Speaker 4: is the guy.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think so. Some of the rookies that don't
- 12:13Speaker 5: wants to get, you know, a look at them. I
- 12:15Speaker 5: don't know how much you can tell, but be excited
- 12:18Speaker 5: just to see.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I do think with Christian Gonzales, like you want to
- 12:21Speaker 3: see what we all think we saw it on the
- 12:24Speaker 3: college film with him. He's such a freak athlete that
- 12:28Speaker 3: even in shorts and a T shirt, he should look
- 12:30Speaker 3: the part, even just the field.
- 12:33Speaker 5: Guessing he's going to be not like right out there immediately.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I'd like to go back to what I said last show,
- 12:38Speaker 5: like I feel like they always want to put veterans
- 12:40Speaker 5: in those positions that know what they're doing, just to
- 12:42Speaker 5: you know, but but of course this is they were
- 12:43Speaker 5: into practice al right now, maybe he's already earned you know,
- 12:46Speaker 5: more more of a look than do you think.
- 12:48Speaker 4: There's any chance that Bill, just to prove that he
- 12:52Speaker 4: was telling the truth that the practice does look like
- 12:56Speaker 4: an outright competition at all positions, Like there's no apparent
- 13:01Speaker 4: starters at any given position except for quarterback. I think
- 13:05Speaker 4: they'd be crazy.
- 13:06Speaker 9: Like how would you know that? Well, that's the thing,
- 13:08Speaker 9: but like if someone's got to be out there first.
- 13:10Speaker 4: But like even in training camp, like you know, the
- 13:13Speaker 4: Trey Nixon's of the world are getting just as many
- 13:15Speaker 4: reps as Juju Schuster.
- 13:17Speaker 9: I mean I've never seen that, I know, But do
- 13:22Speaker 9: you think someone's got to be out there first? Is
- 13:24Speaker 9: my point?
- 13:24Speaker 4: Yeah, but on one day it's one guy and the
- 13:27Speaker 4: other day it's another guy, like over time.
- 13:29Speaker 9: Back when you only have one day.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Don't well that we see, but I'm you know, including
- 13:34Speaker 4: training camps like that, they really open it up this year,
- 13:37Speaker 4: you know, and you know, and nothing's a given.
- 13:40Speaker 5: I just don't think they have a lot of depth
- 13:42Speaker 5: to play with. Maybe on defense there's some questionable guys
- 13:45Speaker 5: that you could kind of.
- 13:45Speaker 9: But second different combinations.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Right, it's basically yeah, but there's guys that you know
- 13:52Speaker 5: are going to be there.
- 13:52Speaker 4: We should go down the roster and say other thing again,
- 13:55Speaker 4: other than the quarterback, which jobs are in Stone? Which
- 13:59Speaker 4: positions are in Stone? I would say number one running
- 14:03Speaker 4: back is in Stone for right now? Right, that's for Madre.
- 14:07Speaker 3: The three interior the three interior.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Guys are well, now, yeah, assuming when when you's hurt, well,
- 14:14Speaker 4: how what if when you doesn't come back right away?
- 14:17Speaker 3: Who's in the well he'll be back for training camp?
- 14:19Speaker 9: Yeah, you just you just had like some surgery. He's
- 14:21Speaker 9: not going to be out for the year.
- 14:23Speaker 4: He just had some surgery. Yeah. I mean, like, okay,
- 14:27Speaker 4: is he gonna know the rest of the league? Is
- 14:29Speaker 4: he going to be ready right away?
- 14:31Speaker 9: I mean, he's not going to be ready for this,
- 14:33Speaker 9: but he'll be ready for training I'm.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Talking about training camp. Yeah, talking about training camp.
- 14:37Speaker 9: According to Mike, Yeah, man, am I missing something? No, no, no,
- 14:39Speaker 9: I don't want to gloss over a guy's injury that
- 14:41Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 14:42Speaker 5: Know the game too, right, it was against Buffalo.
- 14:46Speaker 3: It was like it was like one of those eight
- 14:47Speaker 3: to twelve weeks.
- 14:48Speaker 4: So strange, strange Andrews when you in Stone.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Yeah, Hunter Henry at that as the tops.
- 14:54Speaker 9: The number one end and with those kinds of spot,
- 14:57Speaker 9: I would agree with. It's Hunter, Henry and Kasicki. It's
- 15:01Speaker 9: I think some combination of the receivers. I don't think
- 15:04Speaker 9: we're going to all of a sudden get like Mario
- 15:07Speaker 9: Douglas is going to be a starter, Like it's going
- 15:09Speaker 9: to be one of the you know, it's Jujus Smith.
- 15:11Speaker 9: Schuster is going to be one of their top receivers. Right,
- 15:15Speaker 9: I would say Parker is going to be one of them.
- 15:16Speaker 4: When they put four receivers out there, who's out there?
- 15:20Speaker 9: And I would add probably born in Thornton, Ye.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yeah, probably the four veteran guys.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Now, I mean you got Train Nixon's like the only
- 15:26Speaker 5: kind of veteran practice squad hanger on in the two rookies.
- 15:29Speaker 5: I mean, you said, who are my tackles? Probably I
- 15:32Speaker 5: would say Turnpound at left tackle?
- 15:34Speaker 3: I think, yeah, Trent Brown and Riley Reeve.
- 15:36Speaker 9: Yeah, be my guess, and Trent Brown's that left But
- 15:39Speaker 9: I think I think one of the tackle spots I
- 15:41Speaker 9: think probably has some level of competition. I think Calvin
- 15:45Speaker 9: Anderson could emerge there. Okay, and then you have to
- 15:50Speaker 9: have to look at these rookies too as training camp
- 15:52Speaker 9: goes on to see, you know, what's the one that
- 15:53Speaker 9: they cudy right, yeah, Yeah, he's the one that they
- 15:56Speaker 9: played a little freshman.
- 16:00Speaker 3: He's got the measurables.
- 16:01Speaker 9: Ye, so, but I think you're looking at probably nine
- 16:06Speaker 9: eight eight spots are probably not really overly competitive. Now
- 16:10Speaker 9: those things can change. This is where I think Fred's going.
- 16:13Speaker 9: You know, would it be completely stunning to see one
- 16:17Speaker 9: of those guys, you know, like say an offensive lineman moved.
- 16:21Speaker 5: I mean, I've said it with him.
- 16:22Speaker 9: When you know, you drafted all those guys, maybe you
- 16:25Speaker 9: like them. Maybe they come in during the course of
- 16:27Speaker 9: the spring and get into training camp and you really
- 16:29Speaker 9: like him. Do you trade it, you know, when you
- 16:33Speaker 9: or like David Andrews.
- 16:34Speaker 5: That's what I was just gonna say, like because I
- 16:36Speaker 5: just they went first on Jake Andrews as a center,
- 16:40Speaker 5: you know, and it's just as interesting to me that.
- 16:42Speaker 5: And I don't think you could trade David Andrews. He
- 16:44Speaker 5: just mean, I think he means too much to the
- 16:45Speaker 5: locker room. But they clearly are thinking something by drafting
- 16:48Speaker 5: Jake Andrews.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I wonder if David Andrews has told him that this
- 16:51Speaker 3: is it.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Well that's the thing. They could be just getting him
- 16:54Speaker 4: ready and they know Andrews.
- 16:55Speaker 9: Oh yeah, no, it's good. I mean, it's good business
- 16:57Speaker 9: to do it the way they used to do it, yeah,
- 16:59Speaker 9: you know, getting prepared before.
- 17:00Speaker 3: You I just yeah, I just don't think that David
- 17:02Speaker 3: Andrews is going anywhere this year. I don't even but
- 17:05Speaker 3: it's very possible that David Andrews might have said I'm
- 17:08Speaker 3: already was already kind of thinking about it this offseason,
- 17:11Speaker 3: so really pushing it into next offseason. We're talking about
- 17:15Speaker 3: him retiring.
- 17:16Speaker 9: Yeah, and then you have the same kinds of guys
- 17:18Speaker 9: up front. I think in those kinds of spots on defense,
- 17:21Speaker 9: Like I could sit here and tell you locks like
- 17:25Speaker 9: Lawrence Guy, gotcha, Jude On, But like, would you like
- 17:29Speaker 9: a guy like Lawrence Guy? Would you just would that
- 17:32Speaker 9: like hit you in the side of the head if
- 17:33Speaker 9: they made a training camp deal for you know, sending
- 17:37Speaker 9: Lawrence guys somewhere. No, I just I wonder.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I mean, he's just getting up there.
- 17:40Speaker 9: We've seen the same thing.
- 17:41Speaker 5: With this front for a while. I'd love to just
- 17:43Speaker 5: see some kind of tweak that would you know, maybe
- 17:45Speaker 5: who's my core front seven?
- 17:47Speaker 9: Oh boy, gotcha?
- 17:49Speaker 3: I would say those Yeah, Dietrich Wise, Whyse bar More
- 17:56Speaker 3: assuming he plays, Oh he can't.
- 17:57Speaker 9: Have sixth linemen now, I said, and.
- 18:01Speaker 3: You're going Dietrich Wise, godshaw U, Christian Barmore on the
- 18:06Speaker 3: line for now, Kean White hopefully eventually linebacker Judon Bentley
- 18:14Speaker 3: probably for now, Jean.
- 18:16Speaker 9: And then you have as the sub rusher right that he.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Was the safeties playing in the box.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, How long do you expect Keon White to
- 18:26Speaker 4: get in there, you know, and replace I.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Think I'll start off, well, God, who would I think
- 18:34Speaker 5: i'll start.
- 18:35Speaker 9: I think you would start.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Off replacing Daniel Aquallee as this combination sub pass rusher
- 18:40Speaker 5: inside with Barmore, and then if he does really well,
- 18:43Speaker 5: then maybe his role starts to grow and eat a
- 18:46Speaker 5: little bit. Into snaps of Dietrich Wise, is you know,
- 18:49Speaker 5: kind of a hand down right defensive end in the front.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah, Gonzales starts right away? He should Yeah yeah, I
- 18:57Speaker 4: think you should opposite Jonathan Jones.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, okay, Marcus in the slot. The Jack Jones
- 19:05Speaker 3: thing is interesting to me is like they did they
- 19:07Speaker 3: give him another chance or not, because it's hard to
- 19:11Speaker 3: tell if they're going to actually allow him to play
- 19:13Speaker 3: any any meaningful snaps listen, if people get hurt and
- 19:16Speaker 3: stuff like that, you have to It's.
- 19:17Speaker 9: Hard to know what Bill's thinking. In terms of whatever
- 19:20Speaker 9: was talking about last week, with a lot of times
- 19:21Speaker 9: guys cross Bill and they don't really get a chance
- 19:23Speaker 9: to do it again.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Yeah, but can Bill afford to do that anymore?
- 19:26Speaker 9: I mean, I mean, in an ideal world, wouldn't it
- 19:29Speaker 9: be Jack Jones and Christian Gonzales as you're starting corners
- 19:32Speaker 9: with Jonathan Jones and the slot and then you can
- 19:34Speaker 9: use Marcus Jones however you want.
- 19:37Speaker 5: Maybe in a perfect world, I don't know how much
- 19:39Speaker 5: I believe in Jack Jones.
- 19:40Speaker 9: O why don't they like? I think it best?
- 19:42Speaker 5: He's a rotation.
- 19:42Speaker 9: That's why I said in a perfect world. In other words,
- 19:45Speaker 9: the stuff that Evan's talking about off the field is
- 19:47Speaker 9: not an issue, and he puts it together on the
- 19:50Speaker 9: field and play as well.
- 19:52Speaker 3: That he was wildly inconsistent last year and didn't get
- 19:56Speaker 3: beat some of the time where he did get beat
- 19:58Speaker 3: just because of luck to be.
- 20:01Speaker 9: To be honest with Tyrone pool special. Yeah, but I'm
- 20:04Speaker 9: gonna let the guy go four yards behind me and
- 20:06Speaker 9: hope he underthrows.
- 20:07Speaker 3: It, yeah, or misses him, which happened.
- 20:10Speaker 9: I just think he he has ability, I mean, he
- 20:13Speaker 9: has playmaking ability, but he would scare me as a
- 20:18Speaker 9: full time player.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I think it's worth talking about the kickers too, just
- 20:21Speaker 5: the punter. I mean, you know, I mean you have
- 20:23Speaker 5: some veterans in there. I think we're assuming that. But
- 20:25Speaker 5: I don't think Nick Folk is going to go down
- 20:26Speaker 5: without a fight. I don't know if he's healthy right now.
- 20:30Speaker 5: I think he is, but I'd like to see both
- 20:32Speaker 5: those guys. He's I think he is. I don't know.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I just he's old.
- 20:35Speaker 3: I think I think I just described well he's got
- 20:37Speaker 3: the back like missing No.
- 20:40Speaker 5: You're not missing anything. This is Back's speculating an old guy,
- 20:44Speaker 5: you know, might not be here for OTAs. But you
- 20:47Speaker 5: know that's you know, someding we saw a couple of
- 20:48Speaker 5: years ago when they drafted the Worldwasser. You know, it's
- 20:50Speaker 5: just a little bit of a little bit of flavoring.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Composition kick kickers on the roster. Now, think so, like
- 20:56Speaker 9: you can't have a kickoff specialist Folk kicking field goals
- 21:01Speaker 9: and then the punter, right right, you can't do it.
- 21:03Speaker 5: No, no, And I don't think and.
- 21:05Speaker 3: This should like Chad Ryland should win the kicking job, right.
- 21:08Speaker 3: If you drafted a guy in the fourth round, that
- 21:10Speaker 3: guy should win the kicking job, it shouldn't really even
- 21:12Speaker 3: be close.
- 21:13Speaker 9: Well, see, I'm like your basketball tacks, I agree with that.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Trolling the waters.
- 21:22Speaker 9: No, I mean, he's right, it's right. I'm like, how
- 21:24Speaker 9: can you take a guy in the fourth round and
- 21:26Speaker 9: not have him win? The win the job is the
- 21:28Speaker 9: fifth round. But and that was a disaster.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Disaster, Yeah, rightfully got called out for that being a disaster.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So of all the newbies, and I'm including you know,
- 21:42Speaker 4: free agent signings, Kasiki and Shuster, the rookies, which player
- 21:47Speaker 4: do you think makes the biggest impact first? Gonzo Christian
- 21:54Speaker 4: Gonzales think so.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Maybe that's a little lofty, but I was reading a
- 21:58Speaker 5: little bit about Treik wooll In this morning, and you
- 22:00Speaker 5: know what a good job he did coming right in
- 22:02Speaker 5: as a rookie. I think Patriots will ask more of
- 22:04Speaker 5: Gonzalez than the Seahawks ask of Woolen just schematically when
- 22:07Speaker 5: they playing. Probably it's still a little bit more man
- 22:09Speaker 5: than those guys do.
- 22:10Speaker 9: But I think he could do it. I mean, I
- 22:12Speaker 9: think he's got the oo.
- 22:13Speaker 5: It's just the the age, the experience, you know that
- 22:16Speaker 5: that's the thing. And I think that they've got enough
- 22:18Speaker 5: depth right now that it isn't crazy if all is
- 22:20Speaker 5: well with Jack Jones to say we're going to start
- 22:23Speaker 5: Jack Jones, you know, and Jonathan Jones, maybe have Jalen
- 22:26Speaker 5: Mills at you know, back at safety. But to give
- 22:28Speaker 5: Gonzalez a little bit of time, I mean, you hop
- 22:30Speaker 5: right into it. I mean there's no there's no rest.
- 22:32Speaker 9: For the wicket this this year.
- 22:33Speaker 4: I mean, I mean within receivers joint practices. I think
- 22:37Speaker 4: he'll get enough reps Gonzales to prove he should start right.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Like Bill, I don't think we'll get to week one.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I haven't seen enough of him. He can't start yet.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I think he'll have enough on tape to say, okay,
- 22:51Speaker 4: yeah he should start right.
- 22:53Speaker 9: I just kind of looking at this though, but it's
- 22:54Speaker 9: kind of interesting.
- 22:54Speaker 5: None of those three teams they play in the preseason
- 22:56Speaker 5: really have one of the alpha dog receivers though, and
- 22:58Speaker 5: then they kind of get thrown into the alpha dog
- 23:00Speaker 5: receivers right as the regular season starts. So it would
- 23:03Speaker 5: have been interesting just to see them go up against
- 23:05Speaker 5: the team like last year when DeVante Adams.
- 23:08Speaker 9: Of course, he just.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Liter like maybe they have some like like B listers though,
- 23:14Speaker 3: like Christian Watson, Watson and Traylon Burks are kind of
- 23:18Speaker 3: like the B list version of what you're hoping Christian
- 23:20Speaker 3: Consales is going to go up again. So Traylon Burks
- 23:23Speaker 3: is I mean the Tennessee thing season to AJ Brown,
- 23:26Speaker 3: So like it's maybe there's a little bit something to
- 23:29Speaker 3: be said for let's not put him against DeVante Adams
- 23:32Speaker 3: training camp.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Oh, he's shut down Traylon Burks in practice. You get
- 23:36Speaker 5: to the regular season, a lot of people shut down.
- 23:38Speaker 4: So A J.
- 23:38Speaker 9: Brown is actually better.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Than Traylon Burks, you know, fast.
- 23:42Speaker 9: Traylon Burks, And I think he'll have I think it'd
- 23:46Speaker 9: be up to Bill obviously, but I don't really see
- 23:49Speaker 9: why he wouldn't have an opportunity to start. Yeah, it's
- 23:53Speaker 9: not going to be like I don't. I mean, it's
- 23:55Speaker 9: the same as any other year and you have rookie Scott.
- 23:58Speaker 4: I mean, I would think that the plan would be
- 24:00Speaker 4: to have the start, but he's he's still got to
- 24:02Speaker 4: prove himself.
- 24:02Speaker 5: And that's just I would speak say this to the
- 24:04Speaker 5: bigger philosophy of this team. That goes back to all
- 24:07Speaker 5: the calls that we got last week. Play the young guys,
- 24:09Speaker 5: like you don't you need to find stars you need
- 24:10Speaker 5: to find. Like that's I guess kind of like nothing
- 24:12Speaker 5: against Godshaw Lawrence Guy, but like we've seen it with them.
- 24:15Speaker 5: We know what Lawrence Guy, Like Lawrence Guy is gonna
- 24:17Speaker 5: come back this year and all of a sudden be
- 24:18Speaker 5: playing at another level. Like at best, we're hoping he's
- 24:21Speaker 5: you know, can hang on for a couple more years.
- 24:22Speaker 9: Then That's why I brought up Andrew's guy. Those those
- 24:26Speaker 9: kinds of players I think you can look at and say,
- 24:30Speaker 9: how close is the guy that's pushing him, How close
- 24:33Speaker 9: is the young guy to the veteran in terms of
- 24:36Speaker 9: on field, and if it's really close, that's the way
- 24:39Speaker 9: you can build some depth on your roster, you know,
- 24:42Speaker 9: in the future as well. But you know, I like
- 24:46Speaker 9: the idea of just turning it over to some of
- 24:49Speaker 9: the younger talent and figuring out and in doing that,
- 24:52Speaker 9: you can't just let them all leave either. Like if
- 24:55Speaker 9: you want to say, like oh, Michael, when you we
- 24:57Speaker 9: went down that high priced guard road before and it
- 25:00Speaker 9: didn't work well for us, and they let him go, Okay,
- 25:03Speaker 9: I can hear that, But you can't let him go
- 25:05Speaker 9: and j go and dugg or go and just say
- 25:08Speaker 9: what we're starting all over again. You got to identify
- 25:10Speaker 9: somebody that you'll like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I think
- 25:13Speaker 9: I'm not telling you which one it is. I'm just
- 25:15Speaker 9: saying something, right.
- 25:15Speaker 5: But there's I think there's a number of players on
- 25:17Speaker 5: the roster that you kind of know what you got.
- 25:20Speaker 5: And are we still on an upper trajectory with those
- 25:23Speaker 5: players anymore? And if not, is there a younger player,
- 25:26Speaker 5: Like to your point that maybe, okay, maybe Keon White
- 25:28Speaker 5: isn't as great as Dietrich Wise, but and I love
- 25:30Speaker 5: Dietrich Wise as a guy, but the second I feel
- 25:32Speaker 5: like Keon White has surpassed him or has a higher
- 25:35Speaker 5: like it has some potential that might be better than
- 25:38Speaker 5: I think he's got to be in there as much
- 25:39Speaker 5: as I like Dietrich Wise. But you know, I think
- 25:42Speaker 5: you'd say that kind of about Andrews too. David Andrews,
- 25:44Speaker 5: you know, like, certainly really solid player. The line struggles
- 25:47Speaker 5: when he's not in there. He's got leadership, But is he,
- 25:51Speaker 5: you know, an elite center right now? Is he gonna
- 25:54Speaker 5: be an elite center? I don't know, you know, So
- 25:56Speaker 5: the faster they can try to get guys in there
- 25:58Speaker 5: to find stars, that's that's what they need. That's what
- 26:00Speaker 5: everybody calls about.
- 26:01Speaker 4: To me, the guy I'm looking for to really step
- 26:03Speaker 4: it up, and I think he has upside is Christian Barmore.
- 26:08Speaker 4: You know, I think he can really make an impact
- 26:10Speaker 4: if if he can, you know, play more consistently to
- 26:14Speaker 4: the flashes that we've seen in the past, absolutely and
- 26:17Speaker 4: stay healthy.
- 26:17Speaker 5: That's hung He should be hungry. I mean, everybody was
- 26:19Speaker 5: predicting a breakout year for him last year and he
- 26:22Speaker 5: was you know, he got injured, and I mean I
- 26:23Speaker 5: think it was a couple of different things.
- 26:25Speaker 9: Was it just one?
- 26:26Speaker 3: The knee was a big one, you.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Know, But like I think if he plays to what
- 26:30Speaker 4: we think he can be, that's huge. That's huge to
- 26:34Speaker 4: have that you know, dominant force in the middle.
- 26:37Speaker 5: It's not one of those like premium positions we always
- 26:39Speaker 5: talk about like that that kind of get all the hype,
- 26:41Speaker 5: but I I think it maybe should be. I mean,
- 26:44Speaker 5: it's just nothing more impactful than an interior rusher who
- 26:47Speaker 5: can get to the quarterback without having to get around
- 26:49Speaker 5: the edge. And you know, you get one of those disruptive,
- 26:51Speaker 5: handful guys and you go against a team that maybe
- 26:54Speaker 5: he has a backup guard in one week.
- 26:56Speaker 9: Or a backup center.
- 26:57Speaker 5: And you know, the tantalizing thought is keyon White paired
- 27:01Speaker 5: with Barmore, you know, not just having Barmore do what
- 27:04Speaker 5: you said, but having another powerful guy on the other side.
- 27:07Speaker 5: That's going to be you know, a different kind of problem,
- 27:09Speaker 5: but an equal problem against.
- 27:11Speaker 9: The past, especially in early downs.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Where well, I mean, you look at the greatest player
- 27:14Speaker 4: whoever played, Tom Brady, and if he had a kryptonite,
- 27:18Speaker 4: it was when there was consistent pressure up the middle
- 27:21Speaker 4: that didn't allow him to step up. Now, of course
- 27:23Speaker 4: he didn't have the mobility that other guys do to
- 27:26Speaker 4: like just go off. But even with a guy like Mahomes,
- 27:30Speaker 4: if he can disrupt timing, that's part of the job.
- 27:33Speaker 4: That's you're halfway there, you know, And there's no better
- 27:38Speaker 4: way to do that than to show him that there's
- 27:40Speaker 4: no way to go. There's nowhere to go straight ahead.
- 27:43Speaker 9: You know.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think it's I mean, I think it's
- 27:45Speaker 5: a good point. I mean, obviously with some guys now
- 27:47Speaker 5: they're gonna get out of the pocket and that's where
- 27:49Speaker 5: they want to be. Like, you know, what is it
- 27:50Speaker 5: going to look like with Jalen hurts, you know week
- 27:52Speaker 5: one when they they broke the pocket under two seconds,
- 27:55Speaker 5: But now he just ran for forty yards because he's
- 27:58Speaker 5: got that gear.
- 27:59Speaker 9: It's a balance.
- 28:00Speaker 5: But I just I don't think you're ever gonna say
- 28:01Speaker 5: we don't want interior pressure, like as much as some
- 28:04Speaker 5: of the other guys are too gapping and holding and
- 28:06Speaker 5: you know, build the wall and you know, keep him
- 28:08Speaker 5: in the pocket and that kind of thing. Like I
- 28:09Speaker 5: just if you're in the middle, I don't think there's
- 28:11Speaker 5: any time you're like whoa, whoa, whoa. Don't don't push
- 28:13Speaker 5: the guard back into the quarterbacks lab. We don't want that,
- 28:15Speaker 5: Like right, you want that every time. I mean I
- 28:17Speaker 5: get it with the edge russers. You don't want him
- 28:18Speaker 5: running behind the quarterback and getting out of the play
- 28:20Speaker 5: and all that.
- 28:21Speaker 3: But I just wonder with Barmore, how much to can
- 28:24Speaker 3: they help him by by changing his role a little bit,
- 28:27Speaker 3: because the last two years he's been pretty frequently the
- 28:30Speaker 3: most double team amongst the most double team interior guys
- 28:34Speaker 3: in the league, like up there with with pretty much
- 28:36Speaker 3: everybody besides Aaron Donald who just gets doubled on every play.
- 28:39Speaker 3: But they're that role. It's not it's not because Barmore,
- 28:44Speaker 3: not to take anything away from him, but Adam Butler
- 28:46Speaker 3: was also among some of the most double team guys
- 28:49Speaker 3: in the league because that's the role that they play,
- 28:51Speaker 3: where they're just trying to get him to just occupy
- 28:54Speaker 3: guys in the middle of the line. I personally, I
- 28:57Speaker 3: don't think that Dad's using bar Moore to the best
- 29:00Speaker 3: of his ability now. But you get guys like Dietrich
- 29:03Speaker 3: Wise or Daniel a Quality who didn't get hot because
- 29:05Speaker 3: they get all these one on ones, right because bar
- 29:07Speaker 3: Moore is getting attention, Judon's getting attention. At what point
- 29:10Speaker 3: do you try to line up bar More in spots
- 29:12Speaker 3: to get him the one on one, not to have
- 29:14Speaker 3: him draw attention, not to have him be a decoy,
- 29:17Speaker 3: but have him to be the guy that can actually
- 29:19Speaker 3: go one on one on one and get the quarterback.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Because to me, he's still your best interior pass rusher
- 29:25Speaker 3: by a long shot. And if he's just out there
- 29:28Speaker 3: getting double teamed every single time, because that's the role
- 29:30Speaker 3: that he's playing within the scheme, it kind of takes
- 29:33Speaker 3: away from from his impact.
- 29:34Speaker 5: Let me, would you move him out to the edge,
- 29:36Speaker 5: like I.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Mean, you know what the what the Rams tend to
- 29:39Speaker 3: do with what Donald is they put him at the
- 29:41Speaker 3: three technique, And when you put him at the three,
- 29:43Speaker 3: it makes it harder to double him, and if you
- 29:45Speaker 3: do double them, then you're really exposing yourself someplace else
- 29:49Speaker 3: on the line. So maybe that's it. But like those
- 29:52Speaker 3: you know, the five technique, the playing him at the
- 29:55Speaker 3: nose or the shade, like those spots are either easy
- 29:59Speaker 3: to double team, or you're not really in a true
- 30:01Speaker 3: pass rushing set in the five technique, as you're straight
- 30:04Speaker 3: up over the tackle, So you put him in a
- 30:06Speaker 3: gap and let him then pin his ears back is
- 30:08Speaker 3: probably the best way to get away from it. But
- 30:11Speaker 3: it's not something that they do a ton of. They
- 30:13Speaker 3: don't do a ton of three technique and pass rushing packages.
- 30:18Speaker 3: They tend to have those linebackers that stand up all
- 30:21Speaker 3: around the ball, and then they have that one guy
- 30:23Speaker 3: in the middle.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Well, like Bill's philosophy in the defensive front has always
- 30:28Speaker 4: been more conservative. Like you can take a guy like
- 30:31Speaker 4: Richard Seymour on another team with a different defensive philosophy.
- 30:35Speaker 4: He might have been, you know, up there with the
- 30:37Speaker 4: sack leaders every year, but that Bill doesn't want that
- 30:41Speaker 4: he's never wanted that.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I've had some good conversations with Barmore about it
- 30:45Speaker 3: because he's played a lot of two gap and in
- 30:49Speaker 3: the system, and he's played a lot of five technique
- 30:51Speaker 3: in the system, and it's not what he did at Alabama.
- 30:54Speaker 3: It's not what he's totally used to. He was somebody
- 30:58Speaker 3: that they would put him in there and tell him
- 31:00Speaker 3: to shoot gaps, like just get in the backfield and
- 31:02Speaker 3: make plays, right, And now they've kind of put him
- 31:04Speaker 3: in a in this system and it's worked. It's not
- 31:07Speaker 3: like it's he's a bad player, But is he really
- 31:10Speaker 3: hitting his ceiling?
- 31:13Speaker 4: Like if Warren Sapp was on the Patriots, he never
- 31:15Speaker 4: would have had all that those sacks that he you know, yeah,
- 31:18Speaker 4: like because they wouldn't, they'd have him doing other things.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Which is that right or wrong? I don't know.
- 31:23Speaker 12: I like it.
- 31:24Speaker 5: I mean, it's a great It's one of the age
- 31:26Speaker 5: old questions. I feel like both Belichick skiatically and I
- 31:28Speaker 5: mean I I mean I thought Dominic Easley was kind
- 31:31Speaker 5: of that guy, like just a pure get off guy.
- 31:33Speaker 9: That's what he wanted, That's what Bill wanted him to be.
- 31:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so he did, you know, he does see value
- 31:38Speaker 5: in that, but I just don't know if it's.
- 31:39Speaker 9: Ever more than to you know, obviously like question the
- 31:46Speaker 9: way Bill does it. But I would argue that you're right, Fred.
- 31:49Speaker 9: What you're touching on is, Yeah, if you had Warren
- 31:52Speaker 9: Sapp and you chose to play it the same way
- 31:55Speaker 9: you play it with everybody, If you know Warren Warren Sapp,
- 31:58Speaker 9: Daniel Lqualley, same thing, that's not good coaching. Like I
- 32:02Speaker 9: think Christian Barmore is different than Adam Butler, to use
- 32:05Speaker 9: Evan's example from a few minutes ago, right, and you
- 32:08Speaker 9: should adjust accordingly, Yeah, because I think he's the kind
- 32:11Speaker 9: of guy that could be disruptive if given more opportunities
- 32:14Speaker 9: to just sort of be aggressive and shoot gaps like
- 32:17Speaker 9: Evan said. But I don't think Bill does it that way.
- 32:20Speaker 9: I'm not telling you that he's wrong before anybody's.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not either, because there's so many, so
- 32:26Speaker 3: much data that suggests that what they do works. Like
- 32:28Speaker 3: I mean, they were what first in the league and
- 32:30Speaker 3: second in the league in sacks last year. They're up
- 32:33Speaker 3: there in pressure eight every year, but they just get
- 32:35Speaker 3: pressure from their edge guys and then from second level guys.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Blitzing like they don't get their pressure schemes right.
- 32:41Speaker 9: They do a great job of that absolutely.
- 32:44Speaker 5: I would say two though, Fred, just to maybe disagree
- 32:46Speaker 5: with a little bit like I In some ways, I
- 32:47Speaker 5: feel like Seymour was an ideal fit for what they did,
- 32:50Speaker 5: because I don't know exactly what his fit is, you know,
- 32:53Speaker 5: in a more traditional kind of four to three defense,
- 32:56Speaker 5: where you know, the way Bill played him, where you
- 32:58Speaker 5: could just use his size in his power and you weren't.
- 33:01Speaker 5: You weren't asking him to run as much, you weren't
- 33:03Speaker 5: asking him to be you know, to be quick. You
- 33:05Speaker 5: were just asking him to absolutely dominate offensive tackles every day,
- 33:09Speaker 5: and that was you know. I think in some ways
- 33:10Speaker 5: I think that did play into his into what he
- 33:13Speaker 5: did best. I wonder now how he would fit because
- 33:16Speaker 5: I think now he's almost even more of an ideal
- 33:18Speaker 5: player doing that kind of thing inside on early downs,
- 33:21Speaker 5: like what they do with Guy and Godshaw, where they
- 33:23Speaker 5: have you know, two big interior space eater guys and
- 33:25Speaker 5: then they kind of play with everybody else.
- 33:28Speaker 9: So I don't know.
- 33:28Speaker 5: I mean, I'd just be curious to see what another
- 33:30Speaker 5: coach would say about how Seymour would have fit. I
- 33:33Speaker 5: just in a more traditional defense.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Correct me if I'm wrong. Paul would probably remember. But
- 33:36Speaker 4: when he got traded to the Raiders, didn't like he
- 33:39Speaker 4: shoot up in sacks immediately.
- 33:42Speaker 9: Yeah, I can look it up for you. I don't.
- 33:44Speaker 9: I don't think that he was ever a like a
- 33:47Speaker 9: double digit sack guy or anything like that. He wasn't
- 33:50Speaker 9: really a big sack guy in college. That's why a
- 33:52Speaker 9: lot of people didn't like to pick.
- 33:53Speaker 4: That's true, that's true, But he was. He was so dumbant,
- 33:56Speaker 4: like I just know, like the numbers weren't ever there,
- 34:00Speaker 4: like game to game, But you listen to the opposing
- 34:03Speaker 4: coaches and players, and that's where you know that Seymour
- 34:06Speaker 4: he must be doing something right because everyone thinks he's
- 34:09Speaker 4: a problem. Yeah, everyone thinks he's a problem.
- 34:11Speaker 9: And he made the Hall of Fame, so he everybody
- 34:13Speaker 9: did something.
- 34:14Speaker 3: He was a problem. There's no none about that.
- 34:16Speaker 9: I mean, the scheme didn't shoot it didn't shoot up.
- 34:19Speaker 9: His two highest sack years were with the Patriots in
- 34:23Speaker 9: three and eight he had eight sacks, and then he
- 34:26Speaker 9: went when the Raiders he had four, five and a half,
- 34:29Speaker 9: six and three.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Okay, which is just.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Interesting to me because that decade they were just a
- 34:33Speaker 5: pure three four defense pretty much like that was what they.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Played, you know, Patriots.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they'd pull alignment, they pulled the nose tackle,
- 34:41Speaker 5: they'd put a nickel on and that was their two
- 34:42Speaker 5: packages pretty much.
- 34:44Speaker 9: Yeah, they would put John Yeah right, he.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Was the rush and the three four your linebackers are
- 34:51Speaker 4: the ones that are gonna or you're outside guys are
- 34:53Speaker 4: the ones that are gonna get the sacks.
- 34:55Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean, great player. It's hard to say
- 34:58Speaker 5: like Richard Seymour could have then.
- 35:00Speaker 9: Just so much like really like a freak of an
- 35:04Speaker 9: athlete too, Like you know, you say, like he'd be
- 35:06Speaker 9: like Lawrence guy, and he's so much better than those,
- 35:09Speaker 9: so much more athletic.
- 35:10Speaker 5: That in just the position he played they do.
- 35:12Speaker 9: But to Fred's point, if you asked him to be
- 35:15Speaker 9: more than that, I think he could have. Now do
- 35:18Speaker 9: I think he would have been like a fifteen sack guy,
- 35:19Speaker 9: No speed rusher. Yeah, No, he was a power guy. Yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 9: that's what he That's what he won with.
- 35:25Speaker 4: And you know, as great as he was, I don't
- 35:27Speaker 4: think he always played a hundred to one hundred percent
- 35:30Speaker 4: like I think sometimes he took time off.
- 35:32Speaker 9: Remember that in the field. Remember that game that he
- 35:33Speaker 9: got he got benched in the first I'll never forget it.
- 35:36Speaker 9: He came into this dad died. Where did that guy
- 35:39Speaker 9: come from?
- 35:40Speaker 4: His father died. He didn't keep in touch with the
- 35:42Speaker 4: team in terms of when he was coming back or
- 35:44Speaker 4: when he said he was going to come back. He
- 35:45Speaker 4: didn't do it. He was late a couple of days.
- 35:47Speaker 4: So Bill basically benched him for a quarter against Jacksonville,
- 35:51Speaker 4: and when he came in, he was like a man possessed.
- 35:55Speaker 9: He killed.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Oh my god, I never seen it. Like he was
- 35:59Speaker 4: just ferocious and I'm like got.
- 36:00Speaker 9: A six seven. If you played that, I would remember that.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Jacksonville, No, it's here, he is here. Yeah, Like he
- 36:07Speaker 4: just was just destroying people. He's so pissed off.
- 36:11Speaker 9: You know. But it was like a Seymour destroyer. Like
- 36:14Speaker 9: you could go back and look at the thing. He
- 36:15Speaker 9: probably had like three tackles.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you know, like.
- 36:18Speaker 9: You wouldn't know by the stats, but he just made
- 36:21Speaker 9: every plate for like like two series and we were
- 36:24Speaker 9: just like looking and you know what he used to
- 36:26Speaker 9: He used to do this thing with his shoulder when
- 36:28Speaker 9: he was feeling good. About himself. He would kind of
- 36:30Speaker 9: like that that he would like hit it, and you
- 36:33Speaker 9: could tell he was like themore shot, yeah, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 9: and you could tell that he was like, you want
- 36:38Speaker 9: you want to bench me some more. Probably in retrospect
- 36:41Speaker 9: was the beginning of the end.
- 36:43Speaker 4: But oh god, he came out like a man on fire.
- 36:47Speaker 4: All right. Eight five five Pats five hundred is the
- 36:49Speaker 4: ACE ticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot com. It's
- 36:52Speaker 4: the email address. It's all on the table. I guess
- 36:56Speaker 4: even the Celtics. We got into it ferocious argument.
- 37:00Speaker 5: You might throw some gas on the fire that com
- 37:02Speaker 5: I'm out, I'm coming. Evan says, he's out, But I
- 37:05Speaker 5: bet anyone could call in and get him back in if.
- 37:07Speaker 9: You really, I'll bet anything that too, because I thought
- 37:09Speaker 9: to myself, does it matter to me as much as
- 37:12Speaker 9: everybody else? So I'm going to be out five minutes later.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Evan was playing the role of Fred many times when
- 37:18Speaker 4: I was just like in a corner defending the Patriots
- 37:21Speaker 4: or a certain player on the Patriots.
- 37:23Speaker 9: Oh, I thought you meant trolling, No, not trolley, but
- 37:26Speaker 9: like you know, that's playing the role of Fred in
- 37:29Speaker 9: the corner, just being pummeled and just like you know, it.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Was fighting my way out of the corners.
- 37:33Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 37:34Speaker 9: I feel great.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Some of us have loyalty.
- 37:37Speaker 10: I didn't want a man's playing basketball to this kid.
- 37:39Speaker 4: He's not a matter of loyalty.
- 37:40Speaker 9: It's one of my time favorite watching what's going on?
- 37:44Speaker 5: You know, is this?
- 37:45Speaker 9: This is what it looks like when he was this
- 37:46Speaker 9: to me. Look because he kind of gave me the
- 37:49Speaker 9: side eye that it usually gives you when he's about
- 37:51Speaker 9: to do this to me.
- 37:53Speaker 4: All right, let's get to the calls in emails. We'll
- 37:58Speaker 4: start with Anthony in Seattle. What's up, Anthony?
- 38:01Speaker 9: Anthony?
- 38:02Speaker 2: Hey?
- 38:02Speaker 8: What some of my people?
- 38:04Speaker 9: Hey?
- 38:05Speaker 8: Hey, long time no talk. Hey, I'm gonna be quick today.
- 38:08Speaker 8: All right, listen, I got a bold prediction here. I
- 38:11Speaker 8: am bullish on the Patriot, and I'm so bullish on him.
- 38:15Speaker 8: I got us winning the whole thing.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Okay, alright, all right, all right, tell us why go
- 38:21Speaker 5: get a tattoo?
- 38:23Speaker 8: I saw I saw the Christian dollars video. I get it.
- 38:27Speaker 8: I know a lot of overreactions and everything. Listen, I
- 38:30Speaker 8: usually don't react to stuff like that, but mark me
- 38:33Speaker 8: down as an overreactor because it goes back to one
- 38:36Speaker 8: of those pfwisms. Do you guys use it all the time?
- 38:38Speaker 8: You know it when you see it?
- 38:40Speaker 14: Listen this kid Listen.
- 38:42Speaker 8: For example, I love Jack Jones. I absolutely love that
- 38:45Speaker 8: kid as much as I love him. He don't look
- 38:48Speaker 8: like that. This this kid is different.
- 38:51Speaker 13: Is that?
- 38:51Speaker 8: I think Christian Dollars is going to give us that Listen.
- 38:54Speaker 4: I love it.
- 38:54Speaker 10: But are we talking about the twenty second clip of
- 38:57Speaker 10: him catching.
- 38:59Speaker 9: Five second?
- 39:00Speaker 4: Five second? Is that the clip you're talking about, Anthony?
- 39:04Speaker 4: That's it, that's all the time.
- 39:05Speaker 9: I just play along for a second.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 9: Yeah, Like, let's just say Christian Gonzales turns out to
- 39:10Speaker 9: be Dion Sanders. That's putting you in the super Bowl,
- 39:12Speaker 9: that that you're winning the super Bowl because you've got
- 39:14Speaker 9: the best fall all right.
- 39:17Speaker 8: I think he gives us that alpha, alpha dog corner
- 39:19Speaker 8: that we've been needing. He bumps everyone else down a peg. Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 8: we got Judah, Judah on what have you? I think
- 39:27Speaker 8: we suddenly see this defense look good against everyone, not
- 39:30Speaker 8: just the bad team.
- 39:31Speaker 9: Okay, I'm still on board. Okay, I'm still trying to
- 39:34Speaker 9: get to the Super Bowl to the offense, all right.
- 39:36Speaker 14: Okay, yeah, on the other side of the ball.
- 39:38Speaker 8: Listen, Now, this is all hope.
- 39:39Speaker 9: But I'm gonna okay.
- 39:41Speaker 8: I got I got, I got Billy, oh and and
- 39:44Speaker 8: and Matt, I got him catching a little magic. Every
- 39:47Speaker 8: year a team catches magic and and and exceeds expectations.
- 39:51Speaker 8: You know, Philly last year, nobody expects them to be
- 39:53Speaker 8: that good, So why not us this year? Let's I
- 39:56Speaker 8: want to see the offense be be good, not great,
- 39:59Speaker 8: the defense beat right not good, and let's go ahead
- 40:01Speaker 8: and put a season together, get in the playoffs, and
- 40:03Speaker 8: then once you get in the playoffs, let's go for
- 40:05Speaker 8: the whole thing. Baby. I know there's gonna be some
- 40:07Speaker 8: teams better, but doesn't mean we can't beat them in
- 40:09Speaker 8: a one game series where Bill Belichick as a coach.
- 40:12Speaker 8: I got Patriots this year's Super Bowl years too early,
- 40:17Speaker 8: but I got us winning it.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Maybe I just.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Can't get on this level of optimism today.
- 40:24Speaker 10: We were really hyped up about this one video in particular.
- 40:27Speaker 9: I mean, we know it did, we know it was.
- 40:29Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie, but like, let's calm down.
- 40:32Speaker 10: It did better than the schedule release videos.
- 40:35Speaker 3: But literally, clearly five seconds it was five seconds of.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Anthony didn't even Anthony didn't even come out and say, listen,
- 40:44Speaker 4: I've watched every game in Oregon. You know it's just
- 40:47Speaker 4: like I just saw five seconds and I know he's
- 40:49Speaker 4: the guy.
- 40:51Speaker 9: I can. I could make the arguments for his take
- 40:54Speaker 9: of the defense. I could, but like, you know, like
- 40:57Speaker 9: to just throw at his example, Philadelphia will what you
- 41:00Speaker 9: know what changed from a playoff team two years ago
- 41:03Speaker 9: to Philadelphia to being a super Bowl team the next year?
- 41:06Speaker 9: A Brown? I mean you made significant improvements on offense? Yeah,
- 41:10Speaker 9: like you didn't just like hope everything worked out the
- 41:13Speaker 9: next year.
- 41:14Speaker 4: So did we?
- 41:15Speaker 9: What is the significant improvement they've made on offense?
- 41:17Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien, Micah Sicki, he's those guys are.
- 41:21Speaker 11: Uploaded a video of the Patriots on a TV that
- 41:25Speaker 11: people are reading into his os.
- 41:28Speaker 4: Yeah, but Micah Sicki replacing John new Smith is a
- 41:32Speaker 4: big should be a big improvement.
- 41:34Speaker 9: We should probably talk about Deandrew Hopkins.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Now. I was gonna bring him up because there was
- 41:39Speaker 4: some emails that mentioned so I was gonna like, okay,
- 41:41Speaker 4: you can organically we can talk about it now as
- 41:44Speaker 4: well you brought it up.
- 41:47Speaker 9: Him getting released is not good for the potential in
- 41:50Speaker 9: my opinion of the Patriots getting.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Him, I agree, yeah, probably not because he's just gonna go. Well,
- 41:57Speaker 4: first of all, he doesn't want to come here, according
- 41:59Speaker 4: to him.
- 42:00Speaker 9: Yeah, now he can pick his team a and more importantly,
- 42:02Speaker 9: he can name his price he's gonna made.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, So I'm not looking at him coming here.
- 42:11Speaker 4: But reports do say that the Patriots are interested. I
- 42:15Speaker 4: don't know if that's accurate. I mean, it's easy to
- 42:18Speaker 4: speculate that we would be.
- 42:20Speaker 9: I saw a report that Kansas City and Buffalo were
- 42:22Speaker 9: the only two teams that made significant trade offers. Oh,
- 42:26Speaker 9: serious trade offers. I don't know if that's true.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that was freer.
- 42:30Speaker 9: I don't know if if the report is true.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I mean, the Patriots should be cutting him a blank check.
- 42:35Speaker 3: You're gonna get him for You don't have to give
- 42:37Speaker 3: up anything in a trade for him, now right, you know.
- 42:40Speaker 3: And the one thing the Patriots can do is outbid
- 42:43Speaker 3: Kansas City and Buffalo like they have. They have the
- 42:46Speaker 3: cap space to outbid both teams. If you structure the
- 42:49Speaker 3: contract correctly, you could give DeAndre Hopkins a pretty significant
- 42:54Speaker 3: contract that Kansas City and Buffalo just can't match, you know,
- 42:59Speaker 3: it's it's to impossible, yeah from a salary cap perspective,
- 43:03Speaker 3: And if you're the Patriots, this is the exact kind
- 43:05Speaker 3: of move that you should be absolutely all in on.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Like I would pay him whatever he wants to get
- 43:10Speaker 3: him to come here. And I think eventually money does
- 43:13Speaker 3: talk for everybody.
- 43:14Speaker 9: Absolutely, you outbid everybody and you can get them.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And.
- 43:18Speaker 4: That's what sudden. Yeah, I'll go there.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the exact type of move that they that
- 43:22Speaker 3: they need and they should be thinking of making it.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Maybe it doesn't work out because of his age and
- 43:26Speaker 3: and because of the recent injuries and things like that,
- 43:29Speaker 3: but it's worth the risk at the.
- 43:30Speaker 11: Very least too, I think it gives you going into
- 43:33Speaker 11: Max contract your next off or when you need to
- 43:36Speaker 11: make a decision on Mac Like, it's just such a
- 43:39Speaker 11: truer test of him he has DeAndre Hopkins Like, there's
- 43:41Speaker 11: no excuse there.
- 43:42Speaker 10: You're gonna know what you're getting out of your course.
- 43:44Speaker 5: It's a nice message to Max, so of like here's
- 43:48Speaker 5: and Alex.
- 43:48Speaker 4: When you frame it that way, is it worth what
- 43:51Speaker 4: you pay DeAndre Hopkins to get that true vision?
- 43:55Speaker 10: I think it is.
- 43:56Speaker 11: I mean, would you rather maybe still not be sold
- 43:59Speaker 11: on Mac this time next year, it's up the differences.
- 44:02Speaker 11: You got to pay him, and I don't know if
- 44:04Speaker 11: you want to, and maybe there's nothing else better out there,
- 44:07Speaker 11: so you kind of get stuck into signing a guy
- 44:10Speaker 11: you're not sold on.
- 44:11Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's sort of where I'm at, Like there's probably
- 44:14Speaker 3: nothing better out there at Like Jerry Judy is not
- 44:17Speaker 3: getting traded. There's no Tyreek Hill trade falling out of
- 44:21Speaker 3: the sky that we didn't know was coming. It doesn't
- 44:23Speaker 3: seem like this offseason. So Hopkins is the best guy
- 44:26Speaker 3: out on the market, and you can pay him, and
- 44:29Speaker 3: you're one a whole load of money that these contenders
- 44:32Speaker 3: can't fid with you on, right, and then get out
- 44:35Speaker 3: of you know, make sure that you haven't out in
- 44:36Speaker 3: the contract after a year or two, Like don't don't
- 44:39Speaker 3: give him a five year deal, but right if you
- 44:42Speaker 3: give him a three year, you know, fifty sixty million
- 44:45Speaker 3: dollars deal, he's not going to get that from anybody else.
- 44:47Speaker 5: I just I do wonder, like just what it really
- 44:49Speaker 5: is the relationship with Bill O'Brien, What is that all
- 44:51Speaker 5: right now currently? And how much of it impacts there is.
- 44:54Speaker 5: I love the move for Buffalo, though, I mean, I
- 44:56Speaker 5: think if you're Buffalo at this point, what can you know?
- 44:58Speaker 9: Absolutely here's the city.
- 45:00Speaker 5: I guess I'm a little bit too enamored with Patrick
- 45:01Speaker 5: Mahomes and I'm like, I don't know, he'll probably do
- 45:03Speaker 5: it without without having to take that risk. But I
- 45:06Speaker 5: get but you don't want to.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Do to him. And I hate to say it what
- 45:09Speaker 4: we did the Brady and just assume he's always going
- 45:12Speaker 4: to do it.
- 45:13Speaker 9: I think exact spot. They both have number one guys.
- 45:18Speaker 9: I mean it's Kelsey instead of a wide receiver for
- 45:21Speaker 9: Kansas City, but they both have the guy. Now, how
- 45:24Speaker 9: do you want to do you want to just keep
- 45:26Speaker 9: making the quarterback do it all? Or do you want
- 45:27Speaker 9: to give him a little bit of help?
- 45:28Speaker 4: Yeah? I just like and you know, like, say what
- 45:30Speaker 4: you want about Schuster, But didn't he have seventy catches
- 45:33Speaker 4: last year?
- 45:34Speaker 3: More?
- 45:34Speaker 4: More?
- 45:34Speaker 9: Yeah? So I mean it's not like he was almost
- 45:36Speaker 9: like a Jacoby Myers tie, right.
- 45:37Speaker 4: So it's not like they lost nothing by him leaving.
- 45:40Speaker 4: They still have to make up that up, you know.
- 45:42Speaker 3: I just feel like the the Patriots are far more
- 45:46Speaker 3: desperate to make a DeAndre Hopkins moves than these other teams,
- 45:50Speaker 3: and so that's my point is they should be more desperate,
- 45:52Speaker 3: and honestly, there's no excuse for them to not make
- 45:55Speaker 3: a serious runt at him. Like he's he's a free agent.
- 45:58Speaker 3: You're not giving up a second round pick to get
- 46:00Speaker 3: him anymore, So you can't use that as an excuse.
- 46:03Speaker 3: He's a free agent on the market, a wide receiver
- 46:06Speaker 3: for a wide receiver needy team that has cap space
- 46:09Speaker 3: to spend on it. Like, there's just really no all.
- 46:11Speaker 10: The competition in the division now needs an answer.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Speaking of NFL stories, what do you make of this
- 46:19Speaker 4: Jimmy Garoppolo waiver Brady owner?
- 46:24Speaker 9: Are we a Brady owner? Thing have to do with it?
- 46:26Speaker 4: Well, he's there and if this guy can't play, maybe
- 46:31Speaker 4: I want to come back for a year.
- 46:33Speaker 9: You can't do that and do both.
- 46:35Speaker 4: What do you mean they have to Brady owner?
- 46:37Speaker 9: Things can't have anything to do with it.
- 46:40Speaker 4: No, I'm not saying it has anything to do with it,
- 46:42Speaker 4: but it could just be a you know, quizze.
- 46:44Speaker 9: Like his Garoppolo. Like again, forgive me for enjoying my
- 46:48Speaker 9: Memorial Day weekend. I pulled an error. How can I'm
- 46:51Speaker 9: not gonna lie I pulled. They can get out. If
- 46:53Speaker 9: his foot isn't, is he not gonna be able to play? No,
- 46:55Speaker 9: But didn't he have surgery like in March?
- 46:57Speaker 4: No, but he signed a waiver that if it's foot
- 47:00Speaker 4: isn't you know, he didn't have a physical and yeah,
- 47:03Speaker 4: and so.
- 47:04Speaker 9: He signed an injury which was news in March, which
- 47:06Speaker 9: I don't know why all of a sudden, because somehow
- 47:10Speaker 9: they can get out of that contract. You know, This
- 47:12Speaker 9: is what happens when I take take Pro Football Talk.
- 47:14Speaker 9: This is the whole Big Jay battle right now, because
- 47:18Speaker 9: because Pro Football Talk thinks that he was first to
- 47:20Speaker 9: report this, even though it was pretty clear that something
- 47:24Speaker 9: went wrong with the physical back in March when he
- 47:27Speaker 9: delayed out, Yes, and everybody started writing about him.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but nope, Mike Floria broke this news. Don't
- 47:34Speaker 3: tell him otherwise.
- 47:35Speaker 9: But I mean, has anything changed in terms of his health?
- 47:38Speaker 9: I guess is my question? Not so much the contract status.
- 47:41Speaker 3: I don't know, but the contract changed because he failed
- 47:44Speaker 3: his physical.
- 47:45Speaker 9: Right, But by my point, is no new news, like
- 47:48Speaker 9: he still expected to be able to play like in
- 47:50Speaker 9: training kid? Yeah, right, all that they knew he had.
- 47:52Speaker 4: But if he comes out and that foot gets injured again,
- 47:56Speaker 4: it's the same injury. I think they can get out
- 47:58Speaker 4: of the contract.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all that I know.
- 48:00Speaker 9: And I know that that's great for the team and
- 48:02Speaker 9: I and I get that that's money they don't have
- 48:04Speaker 9: to pay. I get it, that's important to the team.
- 48:07Speaker 9: But they expect him to be able to play like normal, right,
- 48:10Speaker 9: they're not getting rid of him, right.
- 48:12Speaker 3: No, Yeah, they expect him to be able to play.
- 48:14Speaker 3: But that's really all it is, is that the guaranteed
- 48:17Speaker 3: before injury is less than it was in March. That's it.
- 48:21Speaker 9: Yeah, So that's the only quote unquote news okay.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Which everybody told you in March.
- 48:28Speaker 9: That's what I mean, that's kind of what I remembered.
- 48:30Speaker 3: He's going to come for me.
- 48:31Speaker 9: But Brady, and.
- 48:35Speaker 4: You know the Brady Aura you know, yeah.
- 48:39Speaker 3: I don't really like understand why it's not. I know,
- 48:43Speaker 3: you're just doing the bid over there right now, But
- 48:46Speaker 3: everybody else, everybody else is just really trying to get
- 48:50Speaker 3: Brady to unretire. Like every single time you see like
- 48:54Speaker 3: something like it's always like, well, like Brady could play,
- 48:57Speaker 3: Like it's like why why do we have to make
- 48:59Speaker 3: it unretired, Like why is this such a thing. I
- 49:02Speaker 3: just I really hope he just doesn't go down like
- 49:04Speaker 3: the Brent Farv like path where he's retiring and unretiring
- 49:10Speaker 3: and unretired, Like come on, well, I.
- 49:13Speaker 9: Know what I'm saying. He's already doing it right, and
- 49:16Speaker 9: then what's gonna happen on opening day against Philadelphia. He's
- 49:19Speaker 9: not even gonna be there now.
- 49:21Speaker 3: Like when the Raiders, when this all started to come
- 49:24Speaker 3: out about him taking ownership of the Raiders, Benvolin immediately
- 49:27Speaker 3: is like, well, this is gonna make it more difficult
- 49:29Speaker 3: for him to play. It's like playing, like why do
- 49:33Speaker 3: we have to make a play. I'm just in a
- 49:36Speaker 3: bad mood.
- 49:38Speaker 4: All right, all right? Uh emails at web radio at
- 49:42Speaker 4: Patriots dot com. Uh, mister fly balls, that's what he
- 49:46Speaker 4: calls himself. We need an X receiver, Parker just ain't
- 49:49Speaker 4: cutting it. Hopkins actually makes a lot of sense since
- 49:52Speaker 4: he already knows the system and we're one of four
- 49:55Speaker 4: teams that has an opening at X receiver. I would
- 49:58Speaker 4: definitely only sign him to a one year deal, with
- 50:00Speaker 4: half of that being a boy year in twenty twenty
- 50:03Speaker 4: four and with a ped stipulation. Of course, the kid,
- 50:08Speaker 4: the kid.
- 50:08Speaker 3: You think you're gonna sign him with all of these stipulations,
- 50:11Speaker 3: Not a chance.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Also, we have a bleeping rat find him and bleeping
- 50:16Speaker 4: cut him. Set a tone for the sleeping season. He's
- 50:19Speaker 4: talking about these.
- 50:20Speaker 3: The only way the Patriots are getting DeAndre Hopkins is
- 50:22Speaker 3: they offer him a bag. He's not coming here for
- 50:25Speaker 3: a one year half guarantee incentive. You know this clause,
- 50:29Speaker 3: that clase like, that's not happening.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Okay, let's see Andre from New Jersey. Just want to
- 50:38Speaker 4: start by saying apologies to Deuce because I'm about to
- 50:42Speaker 4: begin some Celtics talk.
- 50:44Speaker 3: Nope, not doing it. Taking the headphones off.
- 50:47Speaker 4: All right now. I am no fan of the team,
- 50:49Speaker 4: just like watching good fundamental basketball, and Celtics are not
- 50:52Speaker 4: that at all. Oh, he just goes on.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Not entertaining this conversation.
- 50:57Speaker 4: No, I mean we had it's it's just a bad
- 51:00Speaker 4: day here in Boston.
- 51:00Speaker 5: Evan was there last night, thank you, thanks It was
- 51:04Speaker 5: him that he spilled some water on the floor there
- 51:06Speaker 5: in the first place.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Actually, do you know what what did happen? And all
- 51:12Speaker 3: day long I knew the vibes I were off, like
- 51:15Speaker 3: I knew that. I was like, this is it doesn't
- 51:17Speaker 3: feel good. I don't like, I'm really feeling bad about
- 51:20Speaker 3: this game. We get there and the guy that sits
- 51:23Speaker 3: next to us. My dad has season tickets of Celtics.
- 51:26Speaker 3: The guy that sits next to us sold his seats.
- 51:28Speaker 3: He must have been gone for Moor all day weekend.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Two Heat fans sit down next to us in the
- 51:33Speaker 3: seats and I'm just sitting there all day long. I
- 51:36Speaker 3: had a bad feeling. I was like, this is totally
- 51:39Speaker 3: them to blow this after coming back and you know,
- 51:42Speaker 3: ruined my life and that as soon as the Heat
- 51:45Speaker 3: fans sat down next to us.
- 51:46Speaker 4: I was like bad sign.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I was like we should just leave, like this is
- 51:50Speaker 3: this is already over. They were actually pretty good because
- 51:55Speaker 3: it went so poorly that I think that they were
- 51:58Speaker 3: afraid for their lives if they got to rowdy about it.
- 52:02Speaker 3: So they they were. They were.
- 52:03Speaker 4: The place was loud, though, huh oh, it was deafening.
- 52:06Speaker 5: The pregame they couldn't even hear themselves talking.
- 52:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it was. It was well, we came ready to play,
- 52:13Speaker 3: the team did not.
- 52:14Speaker 5: What was the energy like though, with each ensuing miss
- 52:16Speaker 5: three pointer because that was to meet well, so that the.
- 52:21Speaker 3: So to everybody else's point, My my dad's a big
- 52:25Speaker 3: time Celtics fans obviously, and you know, he's a fundamental
- 52:28Speaker 3: basketball guy through and through. So every single game I
- 52:31Speaker 3: go to him, he yells at me about why they're
- 52:33Speaker 3: taking so many threes, like why do they keep like
- 52:35Speaker 3: why are they doing this? You know, and he's like,
- 52:38Speaker 3: you know, he's like when I back in my day, right,
- 52:40Speaker 3: like you know they have it was, you know, you
- 52:43Speaker 3: wanted to make layups, you didn't want to make threes,
- 52:45Speaker 3: you wanted to get easy shots, you didn't want to
- 52:47Speaker 3: take twenty six footers. And I don't even try to
- 52:51Speaker 3: explain like the analytics of it all anymore of why
- 52:54Speaker 3: this is the league now, because he's not wrong. Like
- 52:57Speaker 3: when you're zero from twelve from three and you just
- 53:00Speaker 3: chucking it, like that's probably not the best strategy. And
- 53:03Speaker 3: I think that that's the one.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Thirty five percent from three and you're forty eight percent
- 53:08Speaker 4: from two, Right, it comes out or something.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Like that, right, But this is a lot of math
- 53:12Speaker 3: for him in the moment when he's screaming at the
- 53:15Speaker 3: stop shooting threes.
- 53:15Speaker 9: And that's how the Heat almost won game. Six. He
- 53:19Speaker 9: couldn't make a shot in game six. But they made
- 53:21Speaker 9: some threes. Yeah, like they shot thirty four percent or
- 53:24Speaker 9: something like that in game six and had the lead
- 53:27Speaker 9: wither point one seconds left. Yep, only because they made
- 53:29Speaker 9: a handful of threes. If I was Celtics couldn't make it.
- 53:31Speaker 11: And because the Celtics didn't take advantage of being in
- 53:34Speaker 11: the bonus for what felt like being hired second half,
- 53:38Speaker 11: God forbid.
- 53:39Speaker 3: They go to throw down the stretch at ten point
- 53:43Speaker 3: three minutes.
- 53:43Speaker 9: Three minutes left, Marcus playing drop kid.
- 53:46Speaker 5: No, you're the one I thought of, Paul, You're the
- 53:47Speaker 5: one I thought of when I watched Sports Center for
- 53:50Speaker 5: Game six and I saw they gave the last big
- 53:52Speaker 5: shot to your boy.
- 53:53Speaker 9: Oh they didn't give it to him.
- 53:55Speaker 5: He just did he just take it.
- 53:57Speaker 9: I mean I wanted, I want to be I love,
- 53:59Speaker 9: I love the was game with Missoula. He says, you
- 54:01Speaker 9: know that they asked him what the thought process wasn't
- 54:03Speaker 9: you know, obviously we're looking to get the ball to
- 54:05Speaker 9: to to Jason, but we felt like we had an
- 54:08Speaker 9: opportunity to get the ball in. Take a couple of dribbles.
- 54:11Speaker 9: No no, no, no, no, no, take a couple of dribbles. No,
- 54:13Speaker 9: we're just gonna take the ball facing the other basket
- 54:15Speaker 9: and just turn around and throw it up and then
- 54:17Speaker 9: somehow would hit the rim and everybody's like, he almost
- 54:20Speaker 9: made it. He's the only guy in NBA history that
- 54:23Speaker 9: can be credited for almost making the shot.
- 54:25Speaker 5: This is what I knew I was gonna get Friday
- 54:27Speaker 5: when I got Derek.
- 54:29Speaker 9: What I mean like, that was an unbelievable play by
- 54:31Speaker 9: Derek White. Was he was in Last Night, he was
- 54:33Speaker 9: the actually in.
- 54:35Speaker 4: The past if a Celtic made that play, oh, you know,
- 54:39Speaker 4: from there, we're gonna win it all.
- 54:42Speaker 5: And that was and that was that was the whole
- 54:44Speaker 5: feeling in the pregame show, the whole pregame show, they
- 54:47Speaker 5: were acting like it was just like they just had
- 54:49Speaker 5: to go out there and finish this monumental task, and like.
- 54:51Speaker 9: I'm gonna kind of did have to just go out there?
- 54:56Speaker 9: You guys think that in all seriousness, I'm just curious
- 54:58Speaker 9: how you guys were thinking going into the game. No, Mike,
- 55:00Speaker 9: I'll leave you up because I know you probably I
- 55:02Speaker 9: knew they had.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I knew the heat were gonna come. I was nervous.
- 55:05Speaker 10: I had an odd confidence.
- 55:06Speaker 4: But if I was a Heat fan, I would have
- 55:08Speaker 4: been pissed. You know how Patriots fans, oh, the announcers,
- 55:10Speaker 4: I would be pissed because it was all Celtics.
- 55:13Speaker 9: That's when when Evan was getting mad at me before
- 55:16Speaker 9: the show. I think that was Evan's point, was that
- 55:17Speaker 9: no one's given Miami right anyway.
- 55:19Speaker 4: I think at one point, who was the play by
- 55:23Speaker 4: play guy, Kevin Harlan. Kevin Harlan said, you know about
- 55:26Speaker 4: the Celtics, He said, hopefully they'll start hitting those threes. Like,
- 55:29Speaker 4: who's hoping for that? Like I've never heard an announcer
- 55:33Speaker 4: actually say that.
- 55:34Speaker 9: That's how pitiful it was to watch, Like I just
- 55:40Speaker 9: can't get over the felt like the whole game unfolds. Whatever.
- 55:44Speaker 9: I knew they were literally when they weren't up by
- 55:47Speaker 9: ten five minutes into the game, I knew they were
- 55:48Speaker 9: going to be in for a struggle. But to score
- 55:51Speaker 9: fifteen points in the first quarter of a game seven, right,
- 55:55Speaker 9: was just beyond anything any nightmare.
- 55:59Speaker 10: And they started off good too, and they just climb back.
- 56:02Speaker 10: It was they had it was, you.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Know, I give Miami c I I will fully admit
- 56:10Speaker 3: that I thought that the heats an eight seed. You
- 56:13Speaker 3: know that they they are roster talents nowhere near the Celtics.
- 56:16Speaker 3: I'm not like gonna do one, Paul, don't worry. But
- 56:19Speaker 3: that Miami team is an absolute cockroach, Like they just
- 56:22Speaker 3: do not.
- 56:24Speaker 9: Like it's because they have dogs do not and I do.
- 56:27Speaker 9: But that's where I agree more without like you know,
- 56:32Speaker 9: in terms of that. But we can leave our argument
- 56:34Speaker 9: off air. No, no, but to that point, like I
- 56:38Speaker 9: and I get annoyed sometimes with some of the cliches
- 56:40Speaker 9: that everybody leans on, but that heat culture thing is legit.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:45Speaker 10: J Butler wasn't even the best player.
- 56:47Speaker 15: They we got the three people.
- 56:49Speaker 9: Who were convinced those guys, Like I can imagine, like
- 56:53Speaker 9: I can almost hear the despair in ninety nine percent
- 56:58Speaker 9: of professional coaches after to a lost like that in
- 57:01Speaker 9: Game six, Yeah, like almost like written all over a
- 57:04Speaker 9: guy's face. We blew our chance, like and he immediately said,
- 57:12Speaker 9: what an unbelievable opportunity we have to play in the
- 57:15Speaker 9: game seven with a chance to go to the finals.
- 57:17Speaker 9: I don't think that was fake.
- 57:19Speaker 3: Yeah, as a set, that Miami team drives me up
- 57:25Speaker 3: a wall. I hate every single player on that Miami
- 57:27Speaker 3: team because they are the anti Celtics. Like they they
- 57:31Speaker 3: have nowhere near as much talent from top to bottom,
- 57:34Speaker 3: but their attitude and their their will and their want
- 57:38Speaker 3: to If the Celtics played as hard as Miami did,
- 57:41Speaker 3: they would win.
- 57:42Speaker 11: The arguing that they don't have the heart, they're not dogs,
- 57:47Speaker 11: they're not scrappy enough. We were running the ball through
- 57:50Speaker 11: our seventh man last night. You want was on one leg.
- 57:56Speaker 11: I'm not doing this because soft, Like just so I
- 58:00Speaker 11: saw him. They became within me.
- 58:03Speaker 3: That's what going to be, Evan.
- 58:05Speaker 10: They came.

- 58:09Speaker 11: He was in the game down the stretch and it
- 58:12Speaker 11: came close again. I think someone got it in to
- 58:14Speaker 11: like five, within five or seven points. Tatum drives to

- 1:09:03Speaker 5: Maybe a week for money that there's no official practice scheduled,

- 1:09:10Speaker 9: We will be live during the two panthers Tuesday and
- 1:09:13Speaker 9: wednes Tuesday and Wednesday, right like we always I mean

- 1:09:21Speaker 4: Yep, right, yep.
- 1:09:24Speaker 9: I don't know. It might be a me thing.
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: Any any camp that we practice we go to, we'll
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: have a camp cast rap at very at the very least.
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: Paul gets very defensive when anyone asked him, are you
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: going to be doing any work? It's very defensive, Well,
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: we do lots.
- 1:09:38Speaker 9: Of work, Like are you going to continue the camp cast?

- 1:09:58Speaker 4: Ace ticket hut line, web radio at Patriots dot com is.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: The email address is Duce, Alex, Evan, Paul Me, Matt Nabooth,
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: Paul still leading. What you got the Buffalo Buffalo tenders.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Don't call them wings if they don't have bones, No
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: barbecue wings. Let's see Alex and Raleigh rights. And in
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: the last show, Fred made a great point about the
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: team's ownership and it got me fired up for this year.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: I think the Patriots could surprise us this year and
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: have a great season. Right now, I have the optimism
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: of Fred and Paul's it always works out for the Patriots,
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: feeling the team at least gets to the playoffs and
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: wins a game. As of right now, I feel the
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: moves we made this offseason improved our team and both
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: playmaking and coaching. If it all works out for the Patriots,
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: they could get off to a hot start in the
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: first month and a half of the season. I also
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: agree with Evan the second things go wrong with Aaron
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: Rodgers and the Jets. He will mentally check out.
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: So there you go, I hope.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: So, yeah, Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: You can see him at the Taylor Swift concert. It
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: looked like he was getting his dance on.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: Yeah, he was rocking out. I think he made I
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: saw he made a lot of fans on Twitter because
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: of that. Like, oh, I like Aaron Rodgers. Now the
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: Jets made.
- 1:11:11Speaker 11: The Jets made a video like we did, and he
- 1:11:14Speaker 11: came prepared as Mac did too.
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: And but I think Aaron might even be a bigger fan.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: I can't lie WHOA don't tell Sophie, did you see
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: Josh Allen? I think is dating Hailey Steinfeld?
- 1:11:25Speaker 9: Happy about so he's going Hollywood Now.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: I feel like I'm extremely I'm not even being good
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: for sarcastic. I am be I am really happy about this. Yeah,
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: this is and this is a an exact way to
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: to just take his mind off of football and start
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: dating a hot actress, like, go for it, Josh, do it.
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: Sophie.
- 1:11:44Speaker 9: Hailey Steinfeld?
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: She who was she was in? She was in Pitch
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: Pitch Perfect, Yeah, she was in that. She was also
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: in a remake of True Grit, which that's a rebate.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: I think, yeah, that was John Wayne had the first one.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: Yeah, and she played the little girl. I hope I'm
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: not mess that up because I computed pretending.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: She's I just didn't know his a remake.
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: But she's yeah, yeah, so you knows she's a good
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: She was in Bumblebee too.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, No, she's she's she's a child actress, just like
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: she's like, she's a very wholesome girl despite being a
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: famous actress.
- 1:12:16Speaker 10: She's kind of low key to for an actress.
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: So she's like fits Buffalo. You think Buffalo.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: It's perfect. Just spend all your off season with her.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Josh speaking of a movie, and I.
- 1:12:25Speaker 9: Think that's usually the beginning of the downfall.
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: I was gonna call listen if I promised to see
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: the flash Will you stop showing the commercial?
- 1:12:34Speaker 9: I know, So what do we think of that? Matt Man?
- 1:12:37Speaker 9: You're not you know really, I think.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: It looks good.
- 1:12:41Speaker 9: You turn your mic on that first time doing this.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: It doesn't work.
- 1:12:45Speaker 15: I think it's gonna suck, but I'm entuced for it.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: Why why? Why? Too much going on?
- 1:12:49Speaker 15: What's going on? I think they screw up the flash points.
- 1:12:51Speaker 15: I'm not gonna judge, like I don't know.
- 1:12:52Speaker 10: They're like trying to do the Avengers thing.
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: And Matt Morrell will the Fire and Nezra Miller as
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: the Flash.
- 1:12:58Speaker 15: So this will start everything over again.
- 1:13:00Speaker 9: You're gonna love it. You will love it. I know
- 1:13:02Speaker 9: you'll love it.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: You're gonna be like, it was amazing.
- 1:13:05Speaker 9: I don't know what I was thinking.
- 1:13:06Speaker 15: I've got tickets for three shows.
- 1:13:09Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: I don't know if I'm gonna go see it. Tickets
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: for three shows.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: And who was going to see the Barbie movie? I
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: kind of want to.
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: I mean, it's getting good reviews, seriousness.
- 1:13:18Speaker 10: Margot Robbie signed me up.
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: I like what they're doing, and they're like, if you love.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: But if you hate Barbie guys, you'll love it.
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: So I thought the trailer looked funny.
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: They just released like the longer trailer, which kind of
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: gives it away you know what it is. But I thought, uh,
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: Ryan Gosling looked pretty funny, just dumb look on his face.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: He seemed like he probably doesn't pretty can yeah ken,
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: I'll see that.
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: I probably won't see it, but I won't go to yeah.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: Wait for cable. We watched Air.
- 1:13:42Speaker 9: Though I haven't watched Air, I did Oh my god.
- 1:13:45Speaker 11: My stepdad was so funny. Yesterday my mom had a
- 1:13:47Speaker 11: little barbecue and he.
- 1:13:48Speaker 10: Was like, oh, you guys, I watched this movie. It's
- 1:13:50Speaker 10: really old, but I think you'll like it. It's about
- 1:13:53Speaker 10: Nike and Michael Jordan. I'm like, that's not an old movie.
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: I've just finished.
- 1:13:56Speaker 10: He's like, what do you mean all the cars were
- 1:13:58Speaker 10: from the eighties.
- 1:13:58Speaker 15: I thought it was from the off.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: Who was the period piece?
- 1:14:04Speaker 9: It a period I mean they could just get old
- 1:14:06Speaker 9: cars and put them in make it look. Mike turned
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: to Jackie Mason.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: Shock to you know, I'm a sucker for anything Michael
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Jordan like that. Just I'll watch anything that has to
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: do with him.
- 1:14:22Speaker 10: Last Dance Davis is an amazing playing. So I haven't
- 1:14:27Speaker 10: seen it yet, but I really want to. I've heard
- 1:14:29Speaker 10: great things.
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: I said to Evan that movie was example to me
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: of how easy it is to make movies now, Like
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: if you just get a couple couple actors, you know,
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: you have a handful of good actors, and then you
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: have like a green screen and three locations and then
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: you just shoot a whole movie. Like I don't know
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: that it's not like it used to be.
- 1:14:43Speaker 10: We need to tell these people because.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Isn't this like so it's that's an Amazon movie. We
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: watched it on Prime right, and it was just in
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: theaters like a month ago, and now it's already in Prime.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: And you could tell that Amazon and Netflix like they're
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: very capable of making award winning movies because that's all
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: it takes nowadays, is just like give me Matt Damon,
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman and let's make a movie
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: and by Old Davis and or just the Rock.
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: That's all the rock and a green screen.
- 1:15:11Speaker 9: We got.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: Those movies have higher budgets, I think, but you know
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: these like that movie, you're right like like how much
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: could that really have cost? Amazon?
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: There it's just Mad and Ben in a room. I'm like,
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: you could have shot seven like seven.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Did?
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: They didn't the lead, but they could, I know.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: But it was great.
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: Like it's entertaining a thing on Twitter about you know,
- 1:15:32Speaker 9: facts and fiction for air and oh yeah, you know
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: there was some things that they took liberties with, but
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: they always do that, you know, based on a true
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: story or whatever.
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: Yeah, we talked to Session too. I'm sure there's some
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: people out there.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't want to wrap too early.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: You already spoiled too early.
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: But but it's a good.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: Show, all right, h eight five five, pass five hundred.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: Let's go to the phones. Uh, Todd's in North Carolina?
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: What's up? Todd?
- 1:15:57Speaker 7: Wow? You guys go from poo too to move you know, Patriots,
- 1:16:01Speaker 7: unfiltered basketball and filtered season?
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: Baby? Yep?
- 1:16:06Speaker 10: The best is pregame show or pre show?
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: Wait, don't we get to uh after mini camp?
- 1:16:12Speaker 10: I'm going blackmail evident Paul with that video. I took
- 1:16:14Speaker 10: over the fight.
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: It's funny that it worked, that it boiled over on that.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: Like of all the things that we've disagreed upon since
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: I got here, it was the Celtics broke us Celtics.
- 1:16:27Speaker 11: Yeah, is you guys screaming at each other and me
- 1:16:29Speaker 11: just saying random things like to just stir the pot more.
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: I loved it even the whole time.
- 1:16:39Speaker 9: It's fun and I was like, what happened last night?
- 1:16:41Speaker 9: Who won?
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: What do you get taught?
- 1:16:44Speaker 7: I don't know. I keep listening to this pretty good conversation.
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: I feel bad about interrupting on those other stations. I
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: think even one of the ones that Paul very much
- 1:16:52Speaker 7: frequence Once in a while, they're all up in arms
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: about the Joe Judge still being on the team and
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: how the chemistry could be shot this and that. How
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: much of a difference you guys really think it can make.
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: I think he can be managed. I don't think it's
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: going to.
- 1:17:05Speaker 17: Be his.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: I'm not that upset. Yeah, I'm not that upset that
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: he's still on the team. And you know, I like,
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: just like Patricia, he was put in a really bad position,
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: and like I think Bill to his credit and maybe
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: it's you know, it's his credit, you know, to a fault,
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: but like he's loyal to people, like you did you
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: did your best for me. I'm not going to just
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: throw you out on the street. And I got to
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: imagine if Patricia hadn't hooked up with another team, he
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: still might be getting paid by this team.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: You know, I just how many chances is he going
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: to get chances? Okay, well, last year it wasn't just
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: that he was at a position, like there was real
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: issues with him and the players.
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Last year there was. But maybe maybe Judge was like
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: this is really bad, like the off they shouldn't be
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: doing this. Maybe it was really between him and Patricia
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: that was the issue to the players. Maybe off like
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: he was butting in.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Maybe, but that's not that's not what the reporting is, right.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: The reporting is is that he would come in and
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: tell them the wrong things and then they would have
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: to go and make it correct.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: And now and tell me what those corrections were.
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: Well, no, I'm not saying that they right, they made
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: any good correction?
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: Who was right?
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: No, you could be right. All I'm saying is is
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: that I tend to try, you know, steer on the
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: side of the players right and listen to what they're
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: telling us and listen to how they feel about it.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: They clearly had issues with the setup last year, and
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: this oversight with the OTAs thing is not the biggest
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: deal in the world. But it's just it's the wrong
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: guy again, Like you know, it's a battle look and
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: so to me, that's two strikes, like it's too like
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: whether it's all fair.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: So Judge, Joe, Judge says, Joe. Judge says, hold on,
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: hold on, Todd, Todd, hold on, hold on. Joe just
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: says to Bill Belichick, Hey, I want to add this
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: fifteen minute Specialtyam's Workshop, because we really don't have anything, okay?
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: Is that Joe Judge's fault that like somebody it didn't
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: fit into the four hours, Like shouldn't somebody be like
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: the vice president of the O t A.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: So So here's my should that be, Joe Judge? I
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: hear you. My fear is is that? Because so if
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: you listen, if you actually read the what uh some
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: people have put out but Dart has put out a
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: version of it. Breer has put out a version of it.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: It was it wasn't on like the main schedule. It
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: was like the door. It was on like a tack board,
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: like on the door, like or the white board on
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: the door. Did he write it there himself?
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: Did did did he? Did he go up the ladder
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: and and tell every all the people that need to
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: know about scheduling that in.
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: The reporting that you you know, are citing. I think
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: there was also a part of it that said there
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: was a memo that went out like beginning of OTAs
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: to everybody that everything has to be within.
- 1:19:56Speaker 9: From Bill from Bill from Bill, Bill wrote, right, who
- 1:20:00Speaker 9: ignored it?
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: Judge?
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: Based on somebody ignored it? I That's all I'm saying.
- 1:20:05Speaker 9: I mean, Judge is being again we don't know what
- 1:20:08Speaker 9: actually happened, but that's what people are writing.
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: Well, that's yeah, because he's he's the easy target.
- 1:20:13Speaker 9: Okay, but Fred, he's an easy target because he's done
- 1:20:16Speaker 9: a lot of things wrong. Yeah, that's why he's an
- 1:20:18Speaker 9: easy target. I'm with Evan. I can't believe he's still
- 1:20:20Speaker 9: on the staff. I can't based on the amount of
- 1:20:24Speaker 9: friction that evidently existed between Joe Judge and players on
- 1:20:28Speaker 9: the team last year. I can't imagine Bill wouldn't just
- 1:20:30Speaker 9: look at it and say we got to remove that. Yeah.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: I just don't know how you take him seriously. I
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: think that's the biggest thing to me is if you're
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: trying to get him to coach up players and I
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: know now he's just going to be doing it on
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: special teams, which is where he belongs at the end
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: of the day. But if you're a player on special
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: teams and there's any seat of doubt in your mind
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: about what he's teaching you or telling you, like, how
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: do how do you trust in him that he's putting
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: you in the best positions and doing what's best for
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: the whole team and everything, Like, I'm not I don't like,
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: you know, firing people. It's not my call, but I
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: think eventually you have to ask do the pros outweigh
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: the cons of this guy being in the building?
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: Sorry about that go ahead problem.
- 1:21:15Speaker 7: Do you think there'll be a problem with him dealing
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: with some of the rookies then, because like, is he
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: gonna you know, not be able to take the guys
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: and mold them?
- 1:21:22Speaker 18: Like what?
- 1:21:22Speaker 7: And put it in that line, what is your third
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: strike with him? What do you think would you know,
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: finally steam out the door.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: Well, let's see what's like on the field. You know,
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: I think on Special Teams he's gonna more or less
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: be co running the show with with cam Accord, And
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: if it's a disaster again on the field, then I
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: wouldn't be surprised if both of them are out of here.
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: That that was just one thing I wanted to bring up.
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: Not a big piece of this, but a piece of
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: it that I think isn't talked about is how does
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: camic Court.
- 1:21:46Speaker 9: Fit into all this?
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: Like, is Joe Judge now scheduling Special Teams meetings on
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: his own? Is he kind of running a certain aspect
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: of Special Teams by himself? Was you know Cam a
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: Court aware of these meetings, like that's one little part
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: of it.
- 1:21:57Speaker 9: That I'm interested in.
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: And this is another thing that happens every year where
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: the coaching dynamics shift and we don't even have any
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: idea of what the setup.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: It certainly feels like Joe Judge is taking over special teams.
- 1:22:08Speaker 9: And I'm going to give another element of this that
- 1:22:11Speaker 9: sort of rubs me the wrong way. And again reports,
- 1:22:14Speaker 9: so we don't know exactly what the structure is. But
- 1:22:18Speaker 9: Greg Bernard reported that he is the assistant head coach,
- 1:22:23Speaker 9: so that puts him above all those guys. So not
- 1:22:27Speaker 9: only this guy, based on reports, rubbed everybody the wrong way,
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: he ended up with a promotion out of it, at
- 1:22:33Speaker 9: least a name.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: Well that's the thing, Paul.
- 1:22:36Speaker 9: You know, Yeah, that's ridiculous.
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: Fred, Is he really doing you know, is he really.
- 1:22:41Speaker 9: He's costing the team OT's bill.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: All of a sudden got sick. Joe Judge be the coach?
- 1:22:49Speaker 9: I would say, if that report is accurate, yes, yeah,
- 1:22:52Speaker 9: but I.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: Do I go back to your point, Fred about loyalty,
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: and I just I wonder if if that has been
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: you know, a hindrance here at the end with some
- 1:23:01Speaker 5: of these guys and instead of being willing to take
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: a chance on somebody young.
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: Position it's one of Bill's like you can say it's
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: it's a it's it's a good thing. But it's also
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: a good thing to you know, whether it's coaches in college,
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: coaches that he's doing a solid by drafting their guy,
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: or you know, paying you know a little bit more
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: to a player who's one of his circle the wagon guys.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: It's it's it's obviously a thing. It's been a thing
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: since Bill's been here, and so you can't say, oh no,
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: it's a thing. It's a thing.
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: Especially I mean, I mean not to players, but but
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: to coaches. I mean, that's the thing. And I think
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: he always I mean, I just remember that line from
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: the O nine doc when they were talking about the
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: Giants and he's like, yeah, you know, all the administrative
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: staff is all the same, like they'll run the coaches
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: out of the town, but you know, nobody else changes.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: So I get that point of it. I just I
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: just wonder what point, you know is it is it really?
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: I mean I would say to Alex what Alex said
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: that last year it cost him, and you know, it
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: seems like we're continuing down that road with I just think, like.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: Last year with Joe Judge and whether the reporting is
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: accurate about who was telling people what and if it
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: was right or wrong or whatever, the general consensus was
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: that Judge was overstepping, that he was overstepping. He was
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: the quarterbacks coach last year, Matt Patricia was really your
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: de facto offensive coordinator without the title, and everybody in
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: the building that the Harold spoke to in that big
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: piece and other people I have spoken to, it felt
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: like he was overstepping. And to me, him going and
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: setting up a special teams meeting that doesn't fit into
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: the four hours of the schedule feels like overstepping again,
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Like I don't know how else you can really categorize.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: It also feels very on brand for him.
- 1:24:42Speaker 9: Right Yeah, And I think that as part of that story,
- 1:24:46Speaker 9: that Harold story, there was specific, specific stories told about
- 1:24:51Speaker 9: Mac and Joe Judge not getting along, Mac not liking it,
- 1:24:58Speaker 9: And again to me, it's like, yeah, okay, you know, yeah, okay,
- 1:25:03Speaker 9: whatever duly noted, nothing's gonna change. He's still gonna be here. Like,
- 1:25:09Speaker 9: I just don't think it sends a great message, But
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: that might be part of Bill's plan, Like Bill just
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: might not really wonder about how Mac Jones is gonna
- 1:25:18Speaker 9: deal with it. He's just saying, well, I think Joe
- 1:25:21Speaker 9: Judge is a good coach, and I think he's the
- 1:25:22Speaker 9: best guy, you know whatever, and he's gonna be steadfast
- 1:25:25Speaker 9: in his belief that Joe Judge is a net positive.
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: I find it hard to believe that that's the case.
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: Not because I don't think Joe Judge knows anything about football.
- 1:25:33Speaker 9: I think all of these guys, yeah, I mean, you
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: don't assent to this level without knowing anything about football.
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: But I think sometimes is it a net zero because
- 1:25:43Speaker 9: whatever he's given you in terms of game plan ideas
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: or x's and o's is outweighed by the fact that
- 1:25:49Speaker 9: half the team doesn't like him. That certainly seemed like
- 1:25:52Speaker 9: it was the case with the Giants at the end,
- 1:25:54Speaker 9: the way that the Giants players were talking about him
- 1:25:57Speaker 9: as as that ended. I just I think Mike's point
- 1:26:00Speaker 9: about the loyalty is a good one. I think sometimes
- 1:26:03Speaker 9: you can you can get yourself in trouble with that again.
- 1:26:06Speaker 9: Will I mean, I'm not going to pretend to know
- 1:26:09Speaker 9: more about the situation than they do, but I just
- 1:26:12Speaker 9: don't really know why he's still here.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with that. I'm coming from the same place
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: as Paul. Joe Judge, I think is a good, good
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: football coach, especially in special teams x's and knows things
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: like that. I'm sure he knows all of it. But
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: when when it comes to personalities and it comes to
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: relationships in the building, you have to start wondering whether
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: it's worth it.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: So and then you you know the question that Deuce
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: asked earliest. So if Joe Judge is the one posting
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: this post it on the wall, where is camc Court?
- 1:26:41Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:26:41Speaker 9: Was he in that meeting? Was aware of the meeting?
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: He's the special teams coordination. Shouldn't he be the one
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: posting for right or wrong? Shouldn't he be the one saying,
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: let's have a workshop.
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: I don't mean maybe, but maybe maybe that's not his
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: role anymore. Maybe he's relegated to he's only doing kickoffs now,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: like you know.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: I don't know, Like, yeah, there's a little little bit
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: of DeAndre Hopkins news. He has hired an agent he
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: was previously for him that's previously not represented. Yeah, and
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: he's with Clutch Sports now. And there was one of
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: those guys, I forget his name, but one of those
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: non certified agents was previously trying to the same thing
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: happened with Lamar Jackson, or one of those kind of
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: you know, managers if you want to call him, that
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: was sort of making calls on his behalf. It seemed like,
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: and because of what happened with Lamar Jackson, teams are
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: really hanging up on this person. But he's hired a
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: real agent now.
- 1:27:36Speaker 9: So that's good. Yeah, because I saw Jeremy Follower yesterday
- 1:27:39Speaker 9: was talking about him not being represented, right, and I agree.
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: Yeah, not good for the player at the end of
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: the day. You know, I don't know what the percentages
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: you pay these guys four percent, but it's it's a lot.
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: It's a lot of just to have somebody at for you.
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: It's like trying to sell your own house, Like you
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: can do it, but like if you screw up, you.
- 1:28:00Speaker 11: Need somebody, especially a guy of this profile and Lamar's profile.
- 1:28:03Speaker 11: It's like you're not just getting some scrub that's like, yeah,
- 1:28:07Speaker 11: he's going to negotiate your salary, like you're probably getting
- 1:28:10Speaker 11: the best of the best.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, let's go to North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:28:18Speaker 13: Hey, ladies, gentlemen, how y'all doing all right?
- 1:28:20Speaker 18: All right?
- 1:28:21Speaker 13: Hey, I'm a big Celtic fan too, and I'm like
- 1:28:26Speaker 13: everybody else. Taylor and Brown, you gotta get some dogs in.
- 1:28:29Speaker 13: They don't have it. They're they're too nice to whatever.
- 1:28:32Speaker 13: They ain't they just think about just put just put
- 1:28:36Speaker 13: in their throat, just keep mashing it. They don't. They
- 1:28:39Speaker 13: don't have that, you know. So and Brown, I'm with Alex.
- 1:28:45Speaker 13: You can't do it between five people. You learned that
- 1:28:47Speaker 13: in high school. So I don't know why you keep
- 1:28:51Speaker 13: doing that.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: And we're not We're not getting Celtics calls, and there
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: might be somebody behind you. You kind of have to
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: worry about that too, you know. It's ah slow low basketball,
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: like you.
- 1:29:05Speaker 9: Fred's really upset with Jalen Brown texted me last night.
- 1:29:08Speaker 13: But back to the Patriot. You start Gunzalars day one.
- 1:29:13Speaker 13: You know, you take your lumps and pains, you like
- 1:29:15Speaker 13: they did with Gilmore when Gilmo Starry Buffalo. You see
- 1:29:18Speaker 13: how he turned down, So you start him day one.
- 1:29:21Speaker 13: Jack Jones, Jones, Jonathan Jones, you don't play behind him.
- 1:29:25Speaker 13: They played beside him. You know.
- 1:29:27Speaker 9: I would think so. I mean, Russille Dowling started Week
- 1:29:30Speaker 9: one right out of the gate as a as a rookie.
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: I can't see why this kid can't start with that athleticism.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: He's got to be an idiot, like you know, like
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: you gotta be like he's good.
- 1:29:38Speaker 9: I know the situations are different because they didn't have
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: I mean, they didn't have the same personnel. Was it
- 1:29:45Speaker 9: twenty eleven? I think the worst they didn't have. Yeah,
- 1:29:47Speaker 9: they didn't have the same personnel then and probably better chance.
- 1:29:50Speaker 9: But this guy should have every just start right out
- 1:29:54Speaker 9: of the game.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: It's just so funny, like questions go ahead.
- 1:29:58Speaker 13: Okay, those tall corners that I see we got on
- 1:30:01Speaker 13: the roster. I know we drafted speed, y'all. Don't think
- 1:30:04Speaker 13: by chance any one of those I know they're rookies.
- 1:30:06Speaker 13: I know they are undrafted free agency. You don't think
- 1:30:09Speaker 13: they might be good enough to you know, Okay, he
- 1:30:12Speaker 13: played better than Males, he played better than Brian. Just
- 1:30:16Speaker 13: put them out there with the speed because you got
- 1:30:19Speaker 13: a team of speeds all over you know, I know,
- 1:30:21Speaker 13: I understand, you know, Veteran's been there, but I'm just
- 1:30:25Speaker 13: tired of seeing Brian and Jones getting beat left and right,
- 1:30:27Speaker 13: like like they told you know what I mean, So
- 1:30:30Speaker 13: I'll take my chance with somebody like that. And uh, Alex,
- 1:30:35Speaker 13: I mean I have Evan, You're right, get rid of Judge,
- 1:30:39Speaker 13: get rid of before you start the locker room. I
- 1:30:41Speaker 13: wouldn't have the first one. Well, thank you, I have
- 1:30:44Speaker 13: a good one together.
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: I just say, you know, Gonzales starts out slow and
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: Bill's pissy at a prescottens Like, you know, Bill, you
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: know what is it about Gonzales that you know made
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: him a starting night? You've seen that five second That's
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: what everyone's hanging ahead, the five second video.
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: That'd be awesome. He did a stop on a start.
- 1:31:08Speaker 9: I was just caution about the two late round guys
- 1:31:12Speaker 9: like especially speed, a mere speed. He really didn't even
- 1:31:16Speaker 9: play cornerback in college like he played really one year
- 1:31:22Speaker 9: at Michigan State. Couldn't really get on the field as
- 1:31:24Speaker 9: a defensive back at Georgia. He's probably a special teams type.
- 1:31:29Speaker 9: That's they're looking at the athleticism and seeing if there's
- 1:31:31Speaker 9: something there.
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: I mean, I love the size and the speed of them,
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: but like you said, like the roster was already kind
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: of full, so I mean, I look at those guys
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: as undrafted free agent adjacent you know, these are like
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: when you're rounding out the roster at the bottom and
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: taking fires on guys.
- 1:31:44Speaker 3: But yeah, not to go down a whole rabbit hole
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: with the with the contracts and things like that. But
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: it's actually cheaper to draft guys in the sixth and
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: seventh round now than it is to pay the top beautyfas.
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: So it's only so many Molion Cunningham set.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: When I read that at some point this offseason. And
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: then the Patriots made all these picks at the end
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: of the draft and didn't trade any of those picks,
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: and I was like, what is going on here? And
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: then I realized they're saving money. They're not actually paying
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: you know, you top UDFA money now for a mere
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: speed because he was drafted in the sixth round, so
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: the rokie wage skill puts him into a certain spot.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: So those guys, I think that the team views them
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: as essentially the same thing as a UDFA.
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: Mowen, Rhode Island has an interesting email. He says, could
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Evan do a video series called Coverages and Routes for Dummies?
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: I listened to last week's catch twenty two and felt
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: like an idiot during their talk about Z this and
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: Z that. I thought it was just slotting outside. It's
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: not a bad idea. But Evan, I ask you a question.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Do you think that you could explain this stuff so
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: that someone who doesn't understand the jargon would be able
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: to get it?
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: Uh?
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think so. I mean we he did something.
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: I think it was more about the analytics that I
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: like to use, like e p A and DVOA and
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: things like that. We did that that primer at some point.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: That's that's on the website. But I think with coverages
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: that it's doable, especially if we just talk about like
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: simple cover two, simple cover one. Obviously, the Patriots are
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: an NFL football team coached by Bill Belichick, so their
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: cover one is not equal to the cover one that
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: you're seeing at uh AT you know, Sharon high like,
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: but you know, I so it's a little different. But yeah,
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: I think we could we could do something like that.
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: I would say to go to uh with football smart
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: football dot com.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: Yeah, they're good.
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: He's a great writer and he's got a couple of
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: books that he's written. Chris I forget his name, but
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: He's got a lot of just like basic explanation stuff
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: if you're looking.
- 1:33:46Speaker 9: For just you know, round level.
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: Matthew Bowen also has some really great articles. I think
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: they're actually technically on Bleacher Report if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: but if you just like google like Bowen B O
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: W E N cover three, Like he has the basics
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: of cover three? What what exactly? It means a couple
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: of different examples of different ways it plays out. His
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: articles are really good with that too.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: What's his name from? Sirius used to be the GM
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: for the Jets, wrote the book Take Your Eye Off
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: the Book.
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: It's a good Yeah, it's a good starter.
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:34:20Speaker 10: Is that how you since we're on the topic, is
- 1:34:22Speaker 10: that why you are the way you are?
- 1:34:23Speaker 17: Like?
- 1:34:23Speaker 10: What made you want to like coverage?
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: Well, to be honest with you, I was a horrible
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: athlete growing up, and but I had the mind, you know,
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: and like I knew I was really smart and I
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: knew the game really well, but I just wasn't athletic
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: enough to actually make it matter on the field. And
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: so I was like, you know, pseudo like doing coaching,
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: thinking like that back all the way like in middle school,
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: in high school, and you know a lot of my
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: friends were much more athletic than me, and I used
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: to like coach them like, you know and be like,
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: you know this is you, do this, do that whatever,
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: and uh, you know, they just had the athletic ability
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: to go out there and actually execute what what you
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: wanted to do. But yeah, I started in terms of
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: like the football exits and knows that. It definitely was
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: a lot of reading other people that are much smarter
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: than me and know much more.
- 1:35:16Speaker 10: I'm envisioning like a varsity coach at your high school
- 1:35:18Speaker 10: telling his players.
- 1:35:20Speaker 9: Shut the hell up.
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: No, actually, uh, it was actually kind of It's actually
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: kind of the opposite for a while, not not because
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: of like my amazing knowledge or anything like that, but
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: like one of my friends was one of our better
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: athletes at school, but he was a head case and
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: like there was only certain people that he was going
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: to listen to, and and because he was one of
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: my best friends, I happened to be be one of them.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: So like when he would go off on a tirade
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: like they would like, you know, I would just be
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: the one that would kind of walk over there and
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: be like, you know, you gotta gotta calm down, you know, yeah,
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: you know, because the coaches had they had had no
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: patience for it.
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: Back on board.
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: Let's see Ian in the UK rites in change the
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: pace here. And I've asked this before, but when when?
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: When are we going to change the Patriot's uniforms? They
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: are horrible? Although I do own an Edelman home jersey
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: in the Max Jones away, please can we get them
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: change or at least get rid of the silver helmets
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: and make them white. Actually someone did, do you know
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: one of those photoshops of a blue helmet that matches
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: the blue jersey, and it looked pretty good.
- 1:36:28Speaker 9: I have to say, didn't we just change the uniforms
- 1:36:30Speaker 9: like three years ago?
- 1:36:30Speaker 13: We did?
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: Yeah, slightly, Yeah, the arm you know, the stripes down
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: the shoulders.
- 1:36:37Speaker 10: It made it look like the throwback jersey, but just
- 1:36:40Speaker 10: the traditional Yeah.
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: Yeah, But I think there is something to having the
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: helmet match the jerseys. I mean, you get the silver
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: helmet now and there's nothing silver. They used to wear
- 1:36:52Speaker 4: quote unquote silver pants. They weren't silver anyway, they were gray,
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: you know, So like I'm all for a helmet or change.
- 1:37:00Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know that.
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: He must never really bother me that much.
- 1:37:03Speaker 9: I kind of like them.
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: I don't know if the blue one blue works for
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: me though, what about like the.
- 1:37:08Speaker 10: Blood so blues with like a bright blue helmet?
- 1:37:10Speaker 13: No fun?
- 1:37:12Speaker 9: The blueberry uniform, it was it would bring a smile
- 1:37:15Speaker 9: to my face.
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: At the time, people hated him, And now all of
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: a sudden that I have to be with that pat
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: Patriot logo. No one liked it back then, And don't
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: tell me that you did that one.
- 1:37:26Speaker 9: That one's not true. The other word, friend's right. Everybody
- 1:37:29Speaker 9: hated the uniforms, and I don't really know a lot
- 1:37:31Speaker 9: of people talking about the blood Yeah. I hated those
- 1:37:33Speaker 9: uniforms and I still do. But I don't know a
- 1:37:35Speaker 9: lot of people that want those back. But the pat
- 1:37:39Speaker 9: Patriot a lot of people want bad now they do.
- 1:37:41Speaker 9: I don't remember people hating the Patrick.
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: Oh god, that it was nothing.
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: It was it was.
- 1:37:46Speaker 9: I always thought it was, Yeah, that's what I.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:37:52Speaker 10: Who takes a dump like that?
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: Back then, when you talked about no one brought up
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: patriot logo is cool. No one said that it was
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: never one.
- 1:38:01Speaker 9: No, I don't think it was ever, but it certainly not.
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: I mean, this is certainly not cool.
- 1:38:07Speaker 15: What the elvis?
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: No, it's I that's my but like when I that's
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: my love it now because I associated with so much success.
- 1:38:17Speaker 9: That's how I feel that. I don't know why you
- 1:38:18Speaker 9: would want to change when you won six titles wearing.
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: The blue the blueberry uniforms are tough.
- 1:38:22Speaker 9: Yeah they were.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: They were terrible and when they first came out, the first.
- 1:38:27Speaker 9: Version tough good like the kids.
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: No, the first version had the blue.
- 1:38:33Speaker 9: He could be there.
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: The first version had red numbers on the blue. You
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: could not see them from the press box.
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: Couldn't the red numbers In ninety three, Yeah, it was
- 1:38:42Speaker 9: impossible to tell who was who.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: But Pat Patriot that we do it perfectly now where
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: it's like one game a year, everything gets turned over
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: to Pat Patriot and that just it's it needs to
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: be a novelty.
- 1:38:54Speaker 9: It's not.
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: It's not a regular every every week Jersey.
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: I just think that the uniforms they wore twenty to
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: twenty nineteen, like those need to be back in the mix.
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: Like I just I think you want six super Bowls
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: in those uniforms like they they like the red uniforms,
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: they're a part. I don't think the nineties uniforms are
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: part of the culture, like they did go to a
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: Super Bowl, But those are the two uniforms, and I
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: think that they should.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Have a person.
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: I think the blue with the with the gray pants
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: that that to me, like the Brady blue with their
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: gray like that, that's like Patriots, Yeah Jersey to me
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: like that? That that I think was the best.
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: Well, and I do think having an alternate uniform with red,
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: but the current logo with a white helmet should be
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: would be sharp.
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you know, I mean this sounds stupid too,
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: but I just I love the font of the name
- 1:39:41Speaker 5: plates on the old on the on the Brady uniforms,
- 1:39:45Speaker 5: like the font and the numbers, the way they I
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: just thought it was outstanding. Like I just think those
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: uniforms were perfect. That's kind of disappointed we got rid
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: of them.
- 1:39:52Speaker 9: Mike's not an easy guy to please, even he didn't
- 1:39:55Speaker 9: even enjoy the Brady But do we like them so
- 1:39:57Speaker 9: much because of how successful they were in them?
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's honest question.
- 1:40:02Speaker 9: I know I do, but I agree with everything Fred
- 1:40:05Speaker 9: said that's associate with.
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: Here's another one his Tampa Bay's original uniform, the orange
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: with the absolutely love with the guy with the feather
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: in his Uh. Yeah, I hated and no one liked
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: them back then either. They thought they were just made
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: fun of Tampa Bay. Yeah.
- 1:40:25Speaker 9: I lost every game, but I loved those uniforms. I
- 1:40:29Speaker 9: think they I think they're bringing them back this year too.
- 1:40:30Speaker 5: I think they're gonna wear them le.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: Roy Selman.
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: Let's go to Paul and Vancouver. What's up, Paul?
- 1:40:39Speaker 14: Hey, Fred, have a good weekend?
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Yeah I did. How about you?
- 1:40:44Speaker 14: Oh well, I tell you after last week's show there
- 1:40:48Speaker 14: when you collected my whether I was a fan or
- 1:40:53Speaker 14: not after fifty years of uh carrying for the team
- 1:40:56Speaker 14: in twenty two years, to listen to this show, I
- 1:40:58Speaker 14: had to be reflected of it.
- 1:41:01Speaker 21: About what did you do?
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: I don't know what.
- 1:41:04Speaker 7: What?
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: Why did I question your fan hood?
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:41:08Speaker 14: Because I was not, I guess doing enough hope in
- 1:41:12Speaker 14: my team?
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: Okay, right right?
- 1:41:16Speaker 13: Oh?
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you you were definitely and you're probably still really
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: down on the team. Yeah.
- 1:41:21Speaker 14: No, Fred, I tell you, I thought about what I
- 1:41:25Speaker 14: was saying, and then I listened to the rest of
- 1:41:27Speaker 14: the show, and there's a whole bunch of stuff. What
- 1:41:30Speaker 14: was pointed out by you guys at the end there
- 1:41:32Speaker 14: that I just didn't realize. And Preacher Fred, I have
- 1:41:36Speaker 14: seen the lights, all.
- 1:41:37Speaker 9: Right, you converted one callelujah one ahead of time.
- 1:41:43Speaker 10: Fred the missionary.
- 1:41:45Speaker 14: Now you know, Now, Fred, I'm wondering if Christin gunzalas
- 1:41:50Speaker 14: just winning defensive Rookie of the Year or just feeding
- 1:41:54Speaker 14: out Christian Barmore for players such a player of the year,
- 1:41:57Speaker 14: and whether you know it's a fourth round guard or
- 1:42:01Speaker 14: every winning off like the Rookie of the year, you know,
- 1:42:04Speaker 14: because you know, at the end of the show there's
- 1:42:08Speaker 14: things I did learn I learned, you know, Mike, and
- 1:42:11Speaker 14: hasn't pointed out that they were like three plays away
- 1:42:14Speaker 14: from you know, eleven win team last year because I
- 1:42:16Speaker 14: had eight convincing wins and all the misfortunes and bad
- 1:42:23Speaker 14: plays all went against the Patriots.
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: You know, I'm sensing a little sarcasm here, Yeah, you know, like.
- 1:42:31Speaker 14: I was thinking, maybe the jet counting the Marcus don't.
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: At the end of the spend this. Okay, all right, okay,
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: all right, So you're so you're still down on the
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: team in other words, is what you're saying.
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: Fred.
- 1:42:47Speaker 14: The pole point but always trying to make last week
- 1:42:50Speaker 14: right was what I said about the post Brady era
- 1:42:55Speaker 14: being bought was because I don't feel that they have
- 1:42:59Speaker 14: They didn't turn over the roster that I remember. I
- 1:43:01Speaker 14: thought about Paul Brillo saying, and he wasn't there to
- 1:43:04Speaker 14: agree with me about them being such an old roster
- 1:43:09Speaker 14: at that point when Brady left. It wasn't just Brady leaving.
- 1:43:12Speaker 8: It was just an old roster.
- 1:43:13Speaker 14: At that time, right, and they had to turn it over.
- 1:43:16Speaker 14: And that when we and Evan also on question saying,
- 1:43:22Speaker 14: why am I thinking as a super Bowl team. I'm
- 1:43:24Speaker 14: not starting on super Bowl team. I saying a playoff
- 1:43:27Speaker 14: team because I do point out Robert Kraft wants to win,
- 1:43:31Speaker 14: and he said he expects to make the playoffs, and
- 1:43:35Speaker 14: I was pointing out, I don't see them making those
- 1:43:37Speaker 14: steps to get back there right now. I thought four
- 1:43:42Speaker 14: years ago they had an opportunity to really reset right,
- 1:43:47Speaker 14: and they didn't take it. They they did things like
- 1:43:49Speaker 14: we were used to laugh at the Bills and the
- 1:43:51Speaker 14: Jets and the Dolphins doing, you know, spending all this
- 1:43:55Speaker 14: money in free agency, you know, winning winning the free
- 1:43:57Speaker 14: agency thing right, like we tried to do for years.
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: I remember at the time everybody being thrilled that they
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: did that.
- 1:44:05Speaker 14: I I wasn't thrilled about that because it never really works.
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: So what did you want to but you don't want
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: to bring in new players?
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: What?
- 1:44:13Speaker 9: How did you how?
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: What would you want them to do? Like I just
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: I mean it sounds great like they could have done.
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: What could they have done? Like they they missed on
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: the draft.
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: So everyone was exciting.
- 1:44:21Speaker 14: Everyone was like finally, well, no, what they could have
- 1:44:25Speaker 14: done four years ago? It was I would have I
- 1:44:28Speaker 14: loved like bringing a Cam Newton. I just didn't like
- 1:44:30Speaker 14: that at all. We tread quarterback. I thought, you know,
- 1:44:34Speaker 14: I look at this team. I said, I've been cheering
- 1:44:36Speaker 14: this for this team forever. Right. I think there are
- 1:44:38Speaker 14: three key points in this branchise put a name to
- 1:44:40Speaker 14: the client dynasty. Was that Robert Kraft took it with
- 1:44:44Speaker 14: the start of the dynasty, right. The accelerating point was
- 1:44:48Speaker 14: when they bought him, don't Jeff Felow checks. And the
- 1:44:50Speaker 14: crowning point was Brady King. I could after cheering for
- 1:44:54Speaker 14: this team for so long, I cannot believe that they
- 1:44:57Speaker 14: were relevant that every year the national guy who because
- 1:45:01Speaker 14: you know, you've always put them in reverence talking about
- 1:45:05Speaker 14: the Patriots be super Bowl contenders for twenty years.
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: Let me ask you a question, okay, right, when when
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: they brought in Bill Belichick, did you say, wow, this
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: is it, they got the guy. Did you say that,
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: oh at that time?
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: No?
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: Okay, when they drafted Tom Brady. When they drafted Tom Brady,
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: did you say, they just got the greatest football player ever?
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: I no, So you don't know.
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: You don't know, right, No, I know, Fred, But.
- 1:45:34Speaker 14: I like, I think that Bill Belichick right, like, I
- 1:45:38Speaker 14: don't want to see him fired. I want him to
- 1:45:40Speaker 14: get the same because I don't think this is my
- 1:45:42Speaker 14: question to Paul, right is about what Bill is doing.
- 1:45:46Speaker 14: But I think this changed, right, and it was, And
- 1:45:49Speaker 14: what I don't want to be right is like a
- 1:45:52Speaker 14: Dolphins fan and a Cowboys fan, nobody was thirty years
- 1:45:57Speaker 14: thirty years ago, my d was six super bowls. You know,
- 1:46:01Speaker 14: I don't want that. Nobody wants that, right, And I
- 1:46:04Speaker 14: think at that time we had the perfect opportunity that
- 1:46:07Speaker 14: we had such good but wait.
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: A minute, Hey, what was the opportunity? Who were the
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: people that they who were the people that they didn't
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: bring in that you were like, they should have brought
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: this person in and they should have done this, And
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: what were the moves that they didn't make that you
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: were clamoring for at that time?
- 1:46:23Speaker 14: What I okay, at that time, what I wanted them
- 1:46:26Speaker 14: to do was to go like safe the older players
- 1:46:29Speaker 14: like High Tower, mccordy, Slater, these guys saying, hey, look,
- 1:46:33Speaker 14: we've got to reset this. Do you want to stay
- 1:46:35Speaker 14: ground and mentor these guys or we're gonna find we
- 1:46:39Speaker 14: got to move on. We've got to bring in these guys.
- 1:46:41Speaker 14: We've got to see who we have. That's the problem.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: We did.
- 1:46:45Speaker 9: That's what they did.
- 1:46:46Speaker 14: Some players.
- 1:46:50Speaker 9: What that's what they did. They took mccordy and Slater
- 1:46:53Speaker 9: side and they said, you know, we want you to
- 1:46:55Speaker 9: be part of the new regime and we want you
- 1:46:57Speaker 9: to mentor these guys that we're going to be bringing.
- 1:47:00Speaker 9: I think that's exactly what they did.
- 1:47:04Speaker 14: And there were too many of them, though, he pointed out, Paul,
- 1:47:08Speaker 14: you said there was too many of the old guys
- 1:47:10Speaker 14: on that seat.
- 1:47:11Speaker 9: Right. No, no, no, I'm not telling you I agreed
- 1:47:13Speaker 9: with it. That's not how I would have done it.
- 1:47:15Speaker 9: But you just said that's what you would have done,
- 1:47:17Speaker 9: and you criticized them for not doing something that I
- 1:47:19Speaker 9: think they did.
- 1:47:21Speaker 14: I would What I said was, I would have gone
- 1:47:24Speaker 14: to these guys and asked that they wanted to be there,
- 1:47:26Speaker 14: right find out some of the guys probably wouldn't have
- 1:47:28Speaker 14: wanted to stick. Simple as that, right, But that's again, okay,
- 1:47:31Speaker 14: we could only take a couple of you guys, not
- 1:47:34Speaker 14: like five of you guys.
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: The hindsight is perfect, but many Yeah, I mean, listen,
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: but I have the moves they've made, all the moves
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: they've made work. No, No, they haven't. And do we
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: want to be stuck in purgatory? Like you know a
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: lot of these teams are when they don't have the quarterback. No,
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: but you know, like I'm not giving up. Hope you.
- 1:47:58Speaker 9: Got you gotta keep thinking you're going to find the
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: quarterback like I mean that. That's I mean that the secret.
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: It's not it's not like a complex formula. You have
- 1:48:07Speaker 9: to have at least a certain level of competence at
- 1:48:11Speaker 9: that at that position. Now that's I don't I don't
- 1:48:13Speaker 9: know if you don't have that, And that's that's when
- 1:48:15Speaker 9: and then we.
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: Get back to you know, signing d hops. So you
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: get a true idea of like who Matt Jones really is.
- 1:48:22Speaker 9: But I mean I could make an argument that I
- 1:48:23Speaker 9: would have held on. I mean, once you've made the
- 1:48:25Speaker 9: decision to have Brady outlast Garoppolo, which I would have done,
- 1:48:29Speaker 9: I would have done it. Then I would have still
- 1:48:31Speaker 9: done it. I would have squeezed every last bounce of
- 1:48:36Speaker 9: juice out of that Brady machine that I could possibly do.
- 1:48:39Speaker 9: I would not have done anything to make that end
- 1:48:41Speaker 9: before it had to, and I would have been desperately
- 1:48:44Speaker 9: trying to figure out a way to get that next guy.
- 1:48:46Speaker 9: I don't think they were doing that. I think A
- 1:48:49Speaker 9: they pulled the plug on the Brady error before they
- 1:48:51Speaker 9: needed to, and B didn't really have that desperation to
- 1:48:55Speaker 9: find a successor, as we saw with Cam Newton coming
- 1:48:59Speaker 9: in in Joe you know to.
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: I think in eighteen. So everybody's gonna go back to
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: the eighteen draft and look at Lamar Jackson, right, because
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: they picked two guys that I think Isaiah Win you know,
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: his rookie year didn't exactly help the team, but Tony Michelle,
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: you can make a real case they helped the team
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: win a super Bowl. So they were clearly preoccupied in
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: eighteen to nineteen with getting every last championship out of Brady,
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: and maybe that kind of jumped the shark a little
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: bit on the quarterback pursuit, so it became we're gonna
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: use a fourth round pick on Jared Stidham instead of
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: using a top fifty pick on a quarterback because we're
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: gonna draft players that we need now to help Brady.
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: It's the opposite of what the Packers did right the back.
- 1:49:45Speaker 9: But then we're never gonna let him play. Oh yeah,
- 1:49:48Speaker 9: that's like that to me is where it disconnects, because
- 1:49:50Speaker 9: I agree with you, they had an eye on we
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: can we can keep winning titles here. I totally agree
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: with that. So we're not gonna be able to use
- 1:49:57Speaker 9: the fifteenth overall pick on Mac Jones. We're gonna have
- 1:50:00Speaker 9: to get somebody in the fourth round, but then we're
- 1:50:01Speaker 9: never gonna let him play.
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like Cam Newton's gonna.
- 1:50:04Speaker 9: Play sixteen games in a lost season while we'll never
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: find out if this guy could play now. I don't
- 1:50:10Speaker 9: know if Jared Sindham's any good. I personally didn't think
- 1:50:12Speaker 9: he was all that impressive when he was here. Played
- 1:50:15Speaker 9: a couple of pretty good games for the Raiders last year.
- 1:50:17Speaker 9: Maybe he's better than I thought. I don't know, he's not.
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: What draft pick do you have right when you had
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: fifteen to take mad?
- 1:50:25Speaker 9: But I think that this is where like you sort
- 1:50:28Speaker 9: of help bent on, like you hell bent on trying
- 1:50:32Speaker 9: to figure out a way to go seven and nine.
- 1:50:35Speaker 9: Like I don't think that.
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: Really like people think it's it's like just easy. It's
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: not easy to turn over your roster.
- 1:50:41Speaker 9: No, it's not easy.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: It's not like basketball. It's it's like there's a lot
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: of players involved in turning over the roster.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: It's such a complex question he was asking, and my
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: brain was really struggling and to come up with, like
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: what what would I have done differently? All things kind
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: of like I can't. You can't go back and draft
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: different players. But I think Paul's really the only kind
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: of reasonable solution would have just been let's just ride
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: it out with Stidham, maybe a couple other guys, you know,
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: let's just move on from them, and then if it works,
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: all right, we're probably picking you know, mid to late
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: first round. And if it didn't work, then they probably
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: were looking at Justin Fields or somebody up in.
- 1:51:16Speaker 9: Like Stidham could have played the twenty twenty season, and
- 1:51:19Speaker 9: I don't think your record would have been much different.
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: I agree with that, And right, Nika could be and.
- 1:51:24Speaker 9: You could have been in a position now, if anything,
- 1:51:27Speaker 9: you could make an argument you probably would have been
- 1:51:29Speaker 9: in better draft position than you were, right because at
- 1:51:33Speaker 9: least Cam Newton won a couple of games with his legs,
- 1:51:35Speaker 9: So maybe Stidham, with his lack of experience, maybe he
- 1:51:39Speaker 9: wouldn't have won seven games. That would be better for you.
- 1:51:42Speaker 9: And if he was better than I think he was,
- 1:51:44Speaker 9: then that's better for you too, because now you might
- 1:51:47Speaker 9: have a guy that you can build around and you
- 1:51:48Speaker 9: don't have to take a quarterback in the draft.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: Because as much as twenty twenty was like a reset year,
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: it wasn't as hard of reset year as it could
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: have been. And in hindsight, especially when you watch watch
- 1:51:57Speaker 5: the footage of the stupid games that we play, like
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: you should have just done it then, but you.
- 1:52:02Speaker 9: Should have been around the man. You never saw anybody
- 1:52:04Speaker 9: pelt the way you saw Mike pelt.
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: That Yet I just think that this to the callers point,
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: and I look, that was a long call, and I
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: gotta admit I'm not in the mood for the negativity
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: right now. But the one thing that I took away
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: from that call is certainly that there is a little
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: bit of a feeling with this team that they are
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: stuck in this purgatory because they have one foot in
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: with the veterans and still kind of having these guys
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: around that that are going to propel the team to eight, nine, ten,
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: maybe if you get some bounces like they did in
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: twenty one wins, but you're not a championship contender. But
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: you're also not hard resetting either. And I look at
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: a team like, the only example I can come off
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: the top of my head, right the second is the Bengals,
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: and the Bengals stunk for two years in a row
- 1:52:50Speaker 3: and it netted them Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase right like,
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: but you don't get Jamar Chase drafting fifteenth overall like
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: those that player doesn't make it that far down your board. Now,
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: they got lucky this year that maybe a guy that
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: we all viewed as a top five, top ten guy
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: did make it to that spot. But that that's like
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: the one thing that I think is has people it's
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: there in such a stuck position because first of all,
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: their head coach is too good, so he's coaching you
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: to six or seven games probably on you know, wins
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: on his own. And then you add in there that
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: you do have the Judons and you do have you know,
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: these veteran players that are in a win now time
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: of their career and you're you're stuck at eight and
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: nine like that, and that just feels like we're just
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: replaying that that tape over and over again.
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: David writes in who is the best player on the
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: Patriots right now? Romandre Stevenson or Matthew Judon And what
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: is more likely Remandre getting another one thousand yard rushing
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: season or Matthew Judon being top five and sacks next year. Paul,
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: if you don't say Vermandre, I will be sure to
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: tweet out that you called him irrelevant.
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: That's as close as I'm gonna get toldst better player.
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: What's I mean?
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: It's hard because I don't view running back as like
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: a you know, as a position that.
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: They don't matter, because it don't really matter.
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: And I kind of feel I feel like I do too,
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: because I feel like Judon is.
- 1:54:14Speaker 15: Very good, but any of the age things.
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: Yeah, and he's kind of tapered off a little bit.
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: They won't give her remonderate another contract.
- 1:54:20Speaker 9: Oh no, no, I don't think so. But that whole
- 1:54:23Speaker 9: purgatory thing I think is accurate. I think they I
- 1:54:25Speaker 9: think they've had one foot in, one foot out. And
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: I think you know Evan's point about Bill's ability to
- 1:54:31Speaker 9: not lose all the games to like last year with
- 1:54:34Speaker 9: Colt McCoy Arizona Cardinals, that was a losable game on
- 1:54:37Speaker 9: a Monday night, even with Kyler Murray getting hurt. He's
- 1:54:40Speaker 9: not going to let you lose that game. And that
- 1:54:42Speaker 9: there's a lot of examples of those in the last
- 1:54:44Speaker 9: three years of games that they are. The game against
- 1:54:47Speaker 9: the Jets, they're just more prepared than the other team,
- 1:54:50Speaker 9: and they're gonna win.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: Spiking Fresno says that Fred and Todd considered Joe Judge's
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: continued presence innocuous, so probably costing the team two days
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: of OTAs doesn't matter. Of course it does. It's symptomatic
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: of the incompetence Judge brings to the table. It's absurd
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: that Bill kept him. It shows me that Belichick really
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: hasn't accepted that last season's offensive coaching choices were a
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: failed experiment.
- 1:55:14Speaker 9: Okay, Yeah, I mean I think that's a little black
- 1:55:17Speaker 9: and white. But to me, it's more about what it says,
- 1:55:20Speaker 9: like emotionally and mentally to the player.
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: But let's say, Bill, does you know realize that it
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: was a failed experiment. He's not gonna blame Joe. He
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: should blame himself. So you're not gonna take it out
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: on Joe Judge and fire him, right, if you truly
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: believe that that was an experiment that didn't work, who
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: you have no one else to blame but yourself. So
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: why take it out on the guy? Fire?
- 1:55:44Speaker 9: Why do you think it didn't work?
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: Because they weren't suited for the jobs?
- 1:55:48Speaker 9: But why, Like, do you think they didn't have the
- 1:55:50Speaker 9: aptitude the experience, right? Yeah? I think it was more
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: how they dealt with the players. Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:55:57Speaker 9: That's why I think it's a whole different thing.
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: I mean with Joe, especially with Judge. I mean, when
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: Joe Judge was the Special Team's coordinator. Here, did we
- 1:56:03Speaker 4: hear stories like you know, players didn't like him.
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: No, do we hear stories of him calling plays?
- 1:56:08Speaker 18: No?
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: But he was the coordinator.
- 1:56:10Speaker 9: No, he wasn't of the special teams no, no, no,
- 1:56:12Speaker 9: But do we hear him calling plays on offense?
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: No?
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: Not last year? What are you talking about.
- 1:56:20Speaker 9: When he was the special teams coordinator. Do we hear
- 1:56:22Speaker 9: about stories calling him calling plays on offense?
- 1:56:24Speaker 14: No?
- 1:56:25Speaker 9: No, last year he was not the offensive coordinator. But
- 1:56:28Speaker 9: we heard him injecting himself into the office. And last
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: year was a mess, right, So I'm sure partly partly
- 1:56:34Speaker 9: because of him. I'm sure there were a lot of
- 1:56:36Speaker 9: competing voices last year that made it him. You know,
- 1:56:38Speaker 9: as they say, you can't fire all the players.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: I know, but like who was right last year? I
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: don't know. We know one thing that it was a
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: failed experiment.
- 1:56:46Speaker 9: Mac deserves Yeah, I think Mac deserves to share a
- 1:56:48Speaker 9: blame for not even allowing you to possibly work. Yeah,
- 1:56:52Speaker 9: and Bill, but you can't fire everybody.
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: No, I understand that, And but I just think that
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: like if if, if Bill realizes that it was a
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: failed experiment, especially if he realizes it's a failed experiment,
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: you don't just fire Joe Judge for doing what you
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: asked him to do.
- 1:57:09Speaker 9: I would, but that's just me because of the way
- 1:57:12Speaker 9: it didn't work.
- 1:57:13Speaker 11: Well, if you don't and you move him into a
- 1:57:15Speaker 11: position where he's better suited to succeed, and he's stuff
- 1:57:19Speaker 11: like this, that's a bad look.
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: That's my point too.
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: If he's if he's calling plays and there in the
- 1:57:25Speaker 9: plays that he's calling aren't working. And Mac Jones every
- 1:57:29Speaker 9: week is saying, you know, we have a great relationship,
- 1:57:32Speaker 9: we're getting along, which were just so frustrating because we
- 1:57:35Speaker 9: can't figure out a way to make this work. But
- 1:57:37Speaker 9: you know we're doing everything. We work great together. We're
- 1:57:40Speaker 9: just not coming up with the best game plan. That's
- 1:57:42Speaker 9: a guy put in a position where he can't do it,
- 1:57:44Speaker 9: and that's not his fault. This isn't that. This is
- 1:57:49Speaker 9: I can't get along with the guys that I'm coaching.
- 1:57:51Speaker 9: By all accounts, I'm rubbing everybody the wrong way. I
- 1:57:54Speaker 9: don't really think that has anything to do with a
- 1:57:55Speaker 9: failed experiment.
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: By some accounts, we don't know all the information.
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: We know what has been report not by Bill's account
- 1:58:03Speaker 9: but by Max account and the other offensive players account.
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, describe Joe Missoula.
