- 0:06Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:10Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex barm.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Blazar, Blazarre and Lazarre. He everybody nailed it, joined us
- 0:15Speaker 2: always buying our star Carick. Here is Evan Lazar and
- 0:22Speaker 2: Alex bars.
- 0:23Speaker 3: This whole class I just then kind of comes down
- 0:25Speaker 3: to it's all different types of players and all different
- 0:29Speaker 3: flavors of players.
- 0:30Speaker 2: And then when is the front?
- 0:31Speaker 3: You know, we talk about this a lot with the
- 0:33Speaker 3: draft of like when is the that run on day
- 0:36Speaker 3: two where now all of a sudden you watch the
- 0:39Speaker 3: prey go by and you miss the run? You know,
- 0:41Speaker 3: and that that's happened to the Patriots. I know, maybe
- 0:44Speaker 3: not Rabel, but I would say in twenty twenty four
- 0:48Speaker 3: that kind of happened with them at tackle where they
- 0:50Speaker 3: sort of missed the run and then they end up
- 0:52Speaker 3: with Kaydon Wallace in the third round and we see
- 0:54Speaker 3: how that went.
- 0:55Speaker 2: So I think that's gonna be a big part of
- 0:58Speaker 2: the edge rusher stuff.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yeah, hello everybody, Evan Lazarre, Alex Barth with you, Catch
- 1:07Speaker 3: twenty two Back in studio, Back from the Combine.
- 1:11Speaker 2: My favorite week.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Of the NFL calendar, The NFL Combine that the Combine
- 1:17Speaker 3: is made for people like you and me, like it
- 1:20Speaker 3: is a made for football nerd event because because you
- 1:26Speaker 3: go there, it's everybody's relaxed. Every team is about to
- 1:30Speaker 3: win the Super Bowl, right nobody's out of it yet
- 1:32Speaker 3: everyone's zero and zero as they like to say, we
- 1:35Speaker 3: haven't played any games, the gms, the coaches, the people
- 1:40Speaker 3: to support staff. But you know, on the personnel side,
- 1:43Speaker 3: all these people are there, it's all relaxed. Nobody is
- 1:46Speaker 3: in any sort of stress or any discomfort whatsoever. It's
- 1:52Speaker 3: a great time. It's a great week. You were there
- 1:54Speaker 3: last year, so you got a taste of it. You
- 1:56Speaker 3: know what it's like. But one of the things that
- 1:59Speaker 3: that comes out out of the Combine as we're we're
- 2:01Speaker 3: seeing in real time right now as the Chiefs. Ten
- 2:06Speaker 3: minutes before we started to tape the show, Alex traded
- 2:09Speaker 3: Trent mcduffy, one of their best players, to the Rams.
- 2:13Speaker 3: David Montgomery's already gotten traded right now from the Lions
- 2:16Speaker 3: to the Texans. So things are happening. Moves are happening,
- 2:18Speaker 3: people are getting.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Traded, might get more during the show. So we are
- 2:23Speaker 1: going to talk free agency.
- 2:24Speaker 3: We're going to talk the veteran trademarket, all that good
- 2:27Speaker 3: stuff here today, I want to start combine, though, we're
- 2:31Speaker 3: going to do our three up, three down from the combine.
- 2:34Speaker 3: We're going to start there, and then I promise you, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 3: the second half of the show at least will be
- 2:39Speaker 3: more of a free agency preview. You have a little
- 2:42Speaker 3: game I want to play with the free agent list.
- 2:44Speaker 3: We'll talk about Alex Pierce, We'll talk about isa alec
- 2:48Speaker 3: I said, Alex.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Piers said Alex. I did not people keep trust me.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I have for Alex trust me. I heard what you said.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I love like, is there a reason that you do that?
- 2:59Speaker 3: Like just like like when I like say something that
- 3:02Speaker 3: I like might fumble a pronunciation for two sous, like
- 3:06Speaker 3: it's Alex okay, I got it that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: One on the okay, So that one specifically, I think
- 3:11Speaker 1: you can understand. I'm a little more too, because my
- 3:15Speaker 1: first name is it's a crazy side note. The number
- 3:18Speaker 1: of people who don't know my name is alex as Wild.
- 3:21Speaker 1: What do you mean people know as Baris? They just
- 3:24Speaker 1: know me as Barth. Like when I worked in baseball,
- 3:26Speaker 1: they called me Barth All summer, A bunch of the
- 3:28Speaker 1: interns didn't know who Alex was. It was kind of funny.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It even sounds weird for me to say it, but yes,
- 3:32Speaker 1: Alec versus Alex. I know the difference.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Alec Pierce. You happy.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Now.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I need to really enunciate the.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Amount of times I've heard Alex Pierce Alex, Yes, the
- 3:42Speaker 1: amount of time.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It's nice like that every times, not just you.
- 3:44Speaker 1: The amount of times I've heard Alex Pierce. The last
- 3:46Speaker 1: two weeks have driven me nuts.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure that maybe I would say last football season,
- 3:52Speaker 3: not this past one, but twenty twenty four.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeap Zoe finally.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Figured out which one of us is which that that happened.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I would say in like the twenty twenty four ish season.
- 4:05Speaker 3: He finally was able to not call me Alex.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Well, I remember when you got hired. Here people coming
- 4:10Speaker 1: up to me and congratulating me.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I mean, but it's like, I guess it.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Really, what's it? What's a name that sounds like Evan
- 4:17Speaker 1: but isn't Evan? There really isn't one. No, Yeah, you
- 4:19Speaker 1: wouldn't like have this, No, it's been my last name,
- 4:22Speaker 1: Laser that kind of thing.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, yeah, Anyways, I digress so we're gonna start combine.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Then we'll get into free agency.
- 4:30Speaker 3: We'll talk about all the different free agents like Alec Pierce.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And the whole list and go down the list there.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And but I want to start combine, and I want
- 4:40Speaker 3: to start and we're going to do like what we
- 4:42Speaker 3: do in the season with after games with three up,
- 4:45Speaker 3: three down, We're going to do it combine style, and
- 4:48Speaker 3: we're going to do three up, three down from the combine.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And I think we just get right into it.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Because it is like, well, okay, so this is what
- 4:54Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you. Is this Patriots related or
- 4:59Speaker 1: like role?
- 5:02Speaker 2: I would say I.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Did a little bit of both. Okay, I didn't really
- 5:05Speaker 1: to think of it as Patriots. I'm not counting Sonny Styles.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Soney Styles had a good combine. We all know it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He's not a name Patriots fans.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I cut out the top.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Let's call it ten to fifteen players of the joy.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I'm just kind of ignoring all that except maybe one guy.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I think you could argue is sort of like trending
- 5:23Speaker 3: in that I.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Was just going to say, off the top before you
- 5:25Speaker 1: threw up three down. Yeah, Sonny Styles was the and
- 5:28Speaker 1: RVL reees where the combine winners, they were excellent. Patriots
- 5:32Speaker 1: are gonna have no shot at him. So let's just
- 5:34Speaker 1: acknowledge that and instead of spending a ton of time.
- 5:36Speaker 2: On Okay, so I just want to get right into it.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I don't really have a great opening take today other
- 5:41Speaker 3: than the fact that I love the combine.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But you know that that I had an opening take.
- 5:46Speaker 2: What was your opening take?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Well, we were talking about off the air.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You well, yeah, I.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Don't understand how the Trent McDuffie trade has anything to
- 5:52Speaker 3: do with the Patriots. But this is what I think
- 5:54Speaker 3: you may this is what I well, this is what
- 5:56Speaker 3: I think you do. When you cover a team, you
- 5:58Speaker 3: localize it. When there's a big national story, how does
- 6:01Speaker 3: it impact your team? So twenty nine or it's pick
- 6:05Speaker 3: twenty nine, right, Broncos have thirty that's right on the
- 6:09Speaker 3: Patriots doorstep at pick thirty one.
- 6:11Speaker 1: The Rams for those picks, what the Rams are an
- 6:16Speaker 1: f M Picks team? But y when they had that pick,
- 6:18Speaker 1: like you're looking at it right? Sure so edge might
- 6:21Speaker 1: be the Patriots pick at thirty one, certainly. But another
- 6:23Speaker 1: thing that I think is a genuinely strong option that
- 6:26Speaker 1: should be considered as tackle, particularly right tackle. Rob Haversten,
- 6:31Speaker 1: the Rams right tackle just retired. The Rams worry right
- 6:36Speaker 1: that is, like Blake Miller's the guy right if we're
- 6:38Speaker 1: talking right tackle at thirty one or Rionachore that would
- 6:42Speaker 1: be the other one. But like Blake Miller, I don't
- 6:44Speaker 1: know how you have them ranked. I have Blake Miller
- 6:46Speaker 1: slightly ahead, so like that's the guy at thirty one.
- 6:48Speaker 1: If you're gonna go right tackle, realistically, that's the guy you're.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Hoping to get.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I think he's a would have made a lot of
- 6:54Speaker 1: sense for the Rams. I don't know that he makes
- 6:56Speaker 1: as much sense for the Chiefs. We were talking about this,
- 6:58Speaker 1: so they still have Jalen Moore, Yes, he gave decent
- 7:00Speaker 1: money last year probably to be their swing tackle, but
- 7:03Speaker 1: can play right tackle. And then they have Josh Simmons
- 7:06Speaker 1: on the left side. Now, he also missed time last
- 7:08Speaker 1: year and all that. But like, I think this is
- 7:11Speaker 1: a positive development for the Patriots because it takes a
- 7:16Speaker 1: right tackle team probably out of the running right before
- 7:20Speaker 1: they pick. Okay, so that's just that's that's that's a take.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Okay, So I have a I have an actual take
- 7:27Speaker 3: of autos two now because you're making me do this,
- 7:29Speaker 3: so I'm gonna do it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's localizing, localizing the.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Trent McDuffie trade, right now, that's what you do.
- 7:34Speaker 3: My take on this, YEA is looking at this from
- 7:37Speaker 3: an AFC perspective.
- 7:40Speaker 2: My guess is.
- 7:41Speaker 3: That early returns are suggesting that Patrick Mahomes is going
- 7:44Speaker 3: to sit out the twenty twenty sixth season.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Or at least part of it.
- 7:47Speaker 4: He was.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I just googled it to make sure I have the
- 7:49Speaker 3: right number. He was towards ACL on December seventeenth. December seventeenth,
- 7:56Speaker 3: So yeah, he could attack his rehab and and you know,
- 8:00Speaker 3: come back like Diggs did, and you know, make it
- 8:02Speaker 3: all the way back.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But Digs had two months on him, had two months
- 8:05Speaker 1: on him month and a half, and isn't a franchise
- 8:09Speaker 1: quarterback who is literally is the Kansas City Chiefs, right,
- 8:12Speaker 1: So I wonder by trading Trent McDuffie, Now maybe they
- 8:16Speaker 1: looked at it and they just said, you know, he's
- 8:17Speaker 1: due up for a contract as he's part of that
- 8:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty three draft, right twenty twenty two or twenty
- 8:23Speaker 1: twenty three, I forget which draft he was.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Cole Stranger's twenty three, twenty two.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Twenty two, Oh yeah, yeah, twenty two draft. He's a
- 8:33Speaker 3: contract extension eligible. They haven't paid him yet, if I'm
- 8:36Speaker 3: not mistaken, and so maybe they just felt like the
- 8:39Speaker 3: capital was better than giving him a thirty million dollars
- 8:41Speaker 3: a year contract. But in my opinion, Trent McDuffie is
- 8:46Speaker 3: probably their best player not named Patrick Mahomes. He's their
- 8:49Speaker 3: second best player on their team, and they just traded him.
- 8:53Speaker 3: And yeah, they got a nice haul for him, they
- 8:55Speaker 3: got a first round pick. But something tells me that
- 8:57Speaker 3: the Chiefs are not planning on being competitive in twenty six.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And if I'm a Patriots man, I love hearing that. Yeah, like,
- 9:04Speaker 3: give me another down year for Kansas City, another year
- 9:07Speaker 3: where maybe in the AFC there's no Patrick Mahomes and
- 9:11Speaker 3: we're doing this whole thing again where it is it
- 9:13Speaker 3: wide open?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Right? Like are we the Sea's parting?
- 9:16Speaker 3: So you know, you have Josh Allen with a new
- 9:19Speaker 3: head coach, who knows how that's gonna go. The Bills also,
- 9:23Speaker 3: I think their roster is is that it's not a
- 9:25Speaker 3: lot of work. Kansas City's probably I think that this
- 9:30Speaker 3: is just reading tea leaves on the chief situation. I
- 9:34Speaker 3: would guess that Patrick Mahomes' twenty twenty six season is
- 9:37Speaker 3: very much in flux whether he's gonna.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Play or not at all.
- 9:40Speaker 3: So if he sits out the whole twenty twenty six season,
- 9:43Speaker 3: or at least a large chunk of it, I don't
- 9:46Speaker 3: know why they would bring him back halfway through unless
- 9:47Speaker 3: they're being competitive without him, which trading Trent McDuffie's certainly.
- 9:51Speaker 1: To be like Jason Tatum of the NFL.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Are they good enough for him to be the Jason
- 9:55Speaker 3: Tatum in the NFL? It doesn't feel like it.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And then.
- 10:00Speaker 3: So you're looking at the Bills, You're like, I don't know,
- 10:04Speaker 3: could go either way with Joe Brady, You're looking at
- 10:07Speaker 3: the Chiefs.
- 10:07Speaker 1: No, Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City Ravens have a new
- 10:10Speaker 1: head coach.
- 10:13Speaker 3: It's all coming up Patriots again. So all it's maybe
- 10:16Speaker 3: it's not going to be a stuff. I will say
- 10:17Speaker 3: this because some people in the chap pointed out, and
- 10:19Speaker 3: just to.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Be fair, so is that a good making it local?
- 10:22Speaker 1: That is a great making it local. To go back
- 10:24Speaker 1: to the other one we were debating, we didn't get
- 10:25Speaker 1: to this part we were debating this off the air,
- 10:27Speaker 1: so they did. The Chiefs did release Jean Taylor, who
- 10:30Speaker 1: was their right tackle. Yes, so you got to decide
- 10:32Speaker 1: is that because they think Jalen Moore can play right
- 10:34Speaker 1: or is it because they want to draft to tackle
- 10:36Speaker 1: and maybe this trade is setting up them taking Blake Miller.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Like there's that too, so you know it's it's going
- 10:42Speaker 1: to be interesting. But I my anytime the board changes
- 10:45Speaker 1: right before where the Patriots are scheduled to pick, your
- 10:48Speaker 1: antennas go up like there's somebody's trying to figure out
- 10:50Speaker 1: something there. So if I had if they were picking
- 10:53Speaker 1: at fifteen, I wouldn't make as big a deal about it.
- 10:55Speaker 3: If I had to trade off though, Yeah, another tackle
- 10:59Speaker 3: team coming up and jumping the Patriots.
- 11:01Speaker 1: For versus the Chiefs maybe hitting a little reset. I
- 11:04Speaker 1: would definitely take it. I think that's fair. Yeah, the
- 11:07Speaker 1: Chiefs to localize it because I like when we get
- 11:10Speaker 1: news like this and we can do this. Yeah, very
- 11:13Speaker 1: different players, but like big picture, right, if we're gonna
- 11:16Speaker 1: just talk about the veteran trade market, yes, if Trent
- 11:18Speaker 1: McDuffie's going for twenty nine, yeah, can you realistically ask
- 11:23Speaker 1: for thirty one for a J. Brown if you're the Eagles.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It's a good point.
- 11:27Speaker 1: What is this due to A J. Brown's trade out?
- 11:28Speaker 3: He's obviously much younger, he does not play. I would
- 11:32Speaker 3: say wide receiver is viewed as more premium of a position.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But it's close.
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's close. Yeah, it's closer than Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I think it's probably like if I had to put
- 11:39Speaker 3: percentages on it, it's like sixty forty in favor of
- 11:41Speaker 3: wide receivers, right, because you got to get somebody to
- 11:43Speaker 3: cover the wide receiver.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So certainly corner is up there.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I mean quarterback, pass rusher, corner, receiver, Yeah, left tackle
- 11:50Speaker 3: are kind of the five premiums that we always talk about.
- 11:54Speaker 3: So I thought that the asking price for a J.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Brown is wild and I but I understand why the
- 12:02Speaker 3: Eagles are driving that barret, But why give away one
- 12:05Speaker 3: of your best players?
- 12:07Speaker 2: And I don't think that they're in any.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Sort of like I keep hearing this is the other
- 12:10Speaker 3: thing here comes our opening takes. I keep hearing that
- 12:15Speaker 3: it's the same as the Max Crosby situation, and I disagree.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I don't think it's the same as Max Crosby because
- 12:22Speaker 3: Max Crosby's going anywhere. Well, the reason why I don't
- 12:24Speaker 3: think it's the same as Max Crosby is because the
- 12:26Speaker 3: Raiders stink, and the Raiders have stunk for all of
- 12:30Speaker 3: Max Crosby's career. So Max Crosby is at the point
- 12:34Speaker 3: now with the Raiders. I think he's had like one
- 12:36Speaker 3: winning season in seven attempts, He's played one playoff game
- 12:40Speaker 3: in Vegas, and now he has yet another coaching regime
- 12:44Speaker 3: coming in a new one.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Again.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I think this is like four coaches that he's on
- 12:50Speaker 3: in Philadelphia. AJ Brown won a Super Bowl with the
- 12:53Speaker 3: Eagles and went to another Like, this is a different situation.
- 12:56Speaker 3: This is a classic disgruntled diva wide receiver versus a
- 13:00Speaker 3: player that has a real acts to grime with the
- 13:03Speaker 3: organization that keeps messing up his career in his prime
- 13:06Speaker 3: of his career. So for that reason, I just don't
- 13:09Speaker 3: think that they're that similar, because Max Crosby has all
- 13:12Speaker 3: the reason in the world to one out of Vegas,
- 13:15Speaker 3: all the reason.
- 13:16Speaker 5: A J.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Brown to me, is like more just about a receiver
- 13:19Speaker 3: one in his Like he just wants volume, he wants targets,
- 13:22Speaker 3: he wants touches, and that's all fine. Like I'm not
- 13:25Speaker 3: holding that against him, but I don't feel as though
- 13:29Speaker 3: they're that similar.
- 13:30Speaker 2: For that reason.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I think this is I looked this up the other day.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I think this is Max Crosby's fourth head coach in
- 13:36Speaker 3: seven seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. That's insane. Like
- 13:42Speaker 3: that isn't an insane number because remember Antonio Piers, Here's McDaniels, McDaniels, Pete.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Oh so this might be five, this might be five.
- 13:52Speaker 1: You're really drafted. I want to say nine team, so
- 13:58Speaker 1: this is your second and then if you count Bisaccio
- 14:00Speaker 1: is an interim, right, that would be six.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I mean that's crazy.
- 14:05Speaker 1: No, Gruden, Bisachia two, mcdaniels's three peers, Oh yeah, six,
- 14:11Speaker 1: Kubiak is six.
- 14:13Speaker 2: That's crazy, Yeah, absolutely crazy.
- 14:15Speaker 1: That organization needs some stability.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Anyways, let's do three up, three down from the Combine says.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm glad we did that. That was fun.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that was like reacting to raw news. Oh we
- 14:26Speaker 3: already have an email. Kay, what are you talking about?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Bart from Poland? Oh boy, what are you guys talking about?
- 14:32Speaker 3: The Chiefs traded Tyreek Kill in twenty twenty two where
- 14:34Speaker 3: they're not serious about competing. Then guess what happened after that?
- 14:37Speaker 3: They made three straight Super Bowls. All the Chiefs are
- 14:40Speaker 3: absolutely a right tackle needing team, especially Okay, uh yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 3: Bart Patrick Mahomes didn't have a torn acl in twenty
- 14:48Speaker 3: twenty two when they traded Tyreek Hill. They traded Tyreek
- 14:52Speaker 3: Hill in twenty two, and they would ended up being
- 14:55Speaker 3: right thinking that they could kind of recreate Tyreek Kill
- 14:58Speaker 3: and the aggregate because Patrick Holmes was that good. And
- 15:01Speaker 3: so they instead of having to pay Tyreek Kill thirty
- 15:03Speaker 3: million dollars a year, they just said, we're going to
- 15:06Speaker 3: spread out resources and Patrick will figure it out. Well,
- 15:10Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes is on crutches right now.
- 15:11Speaker 1: They also thought it's a little bit different. Didn't they
- 15:13Speaker 1: get multiple first round picks for that?
- 15:15Speaker 2: They did?
- 15:15Speaker 1: They got a lot like that was Yeah, it was
- 15:17Speaker 1: a little I got a question.
- 15:19Speaker 3: An absolute hall. All right, three upcrew, down from the combine.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Let's start with the ups because we're a positive show.
- 15:25Speaker 3: We're a positive show.
- 15:27Speaker 2: This is the one.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I guess both these guys maybe at the top of
- 15:29Speaker 3: my list, maybe they they performed their way out of
- 15:35Speaker 3: the thirty one conversation. I know I'm basically crossing both
- 15:38Speaker 3: these guys moving up your shit, Yeah, because they performed
- 15:40Speaker 3: so well at the combine.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I think there's no chance.
- 15:42Speaker 3: The number one up I had on my list was
- 15:44Speaker 3: Dylan Dynaman from Oregon, but I just thought was like outstanding,
- 15:48Speaker 3: like outstanding combine, outstanding athletic testing, outstanding on on field drills,
- 15:54Speaker 3: Like the drill work of that he had. His workout
- 15:57Speaker 3: was incredible. He looked like a corner, yeah, moving inside
- 16:01Speaker 3: through some of those drills. He did play some slot
- 16:04Speaker 3: corner at Purdue mostly and in a little bit at Oregon.
- 16:09Speaker 3: But he puts up a nine point sixty five relative
- 16:12Speaker 3: athletics score. Yeah, four three five forty one inch vertical,
- 16:16Speaker 3: And I think, for my money the best drill work
- 16:19Speaker 3: of anybody at the combine.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah, ex excellent.
- 16:21Speaker 3: And now I think you're putting yourself with Dynaman Thingaman
- 16:24Speaker 3: and whatever.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Uh, he's a part. I think he's a lot top
- 16:28Speaker 2: twenty pick. Now.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I don't know how high he ends up going, but
- 16:32Speaker 3: I don't think that you're in the conversation for him anymore.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean, I think you look at because you can
- 16:37Speaker 1: kind of do this earlier in the first round, right
- 16:41Speaker 1: the Vikings at eighteen, I know it's kind of a
- 16:44Speaker 1: lazy comp but like they they have nothing at safety
- 16:46Speaker 1: besides Harrison Smith, and you got to start preparing for
- 16:49Speaker 1: life after him. So that's a logical landing spot for him.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Chicago at twenty five is the basement to me for him. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: like the Bear, I don't think they have a safety
- 16:56Speaker 1: under contract right now, which obviously free. Yeah, but you
- 17:01Speaker 1: know they're a team that could use the safety. If
- 17:04Speaker 1: you're the Jets at sixteen, you're just trying to fix
- 17:06Speaker 1: that defense and cause more turnovers, like you know with
- 17:08Speaker 1: the second pick. Because the thing with him and a
- 17:10Speaker 1: lot of guys you're hearing right now, a lot of
- 17:12Speaker 1: these guys that were risers at the combine are just
- 17:14Speaker 1: being viewed as like high level players in this draft
- 17:17Speaker 1: you have. I don't know how you count Sonny Styles personally,
- 17:22Speaker 1: Like some people count him as an edge, some people
- 17:24Speaker 1: count him as a linebacker, but like you know, linebacker
- 17:27Speaker 1: not a premium position. Caleb Down safety not a premium position.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Jeremiah Loveeneman is one. Depending on what you want to
- 17:36Speaker 1: do with Fino with his arms, like he might be
- 17:38Speaker 1: a guard. The best players in this draft don't play
- 17:41Speaker 1: premium positions, and I think you're going to see a
- 17:43Speaker 1: trend of teams just bucking premium positions and saying, this
- 17:47Speaker 1: guy's good football player, we gotta put him on our team.
- 17:49Speaker 3: So you mentioned Minnesota at eighteen. Yeah, I think that's
- 17:51Speaker 3: a good shout. Yeah, I think Cincinnati at ten as
- 17:55Speaker 3: high as Cincinnati at I.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Mean May that's probably the sat his defenses. Yeah, I'll
- 18:02Speaker 1: throw in the Cowboys at twenty two. The thing about
- 18:04Speaker 1: Cincinnati at ten to me, as good as Tinman, was
- 18:09Speaker 1: what are the odds that one of Reese Bailey bain
- 18:14Speaker 1: Downs styles? Like, are all five of those guys gonna
- 18:19Speaker 1: go before ten?
- 18:19Speaker 2: Sure? The other the other teams that just stand out
- 18:22Speaker 2: to me because they're just good because.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I would sorry, because I would take all those guys over.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they're just good, well run teams that make good
- 18:27Speaker 3: draft picks. The Rams have the Falcons pick at thirteen. Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 3: Rich get richer there.
- 18:32Speaker 2: You know why.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I if bain falls because of the arms, that's where
- 18:36Speaker 1: he's going.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Baltimore at fourteen. I know they have Kyle Hamilton, but
- 18:40Speaker 3: he's a different.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Kind of player to Kyle Hamilton.
- 18:42Speaker 3: You're right, Kyle Hamilton's more of that nickel box player,
- 18:45Speaker 3: and you can letting him in do this stuff over
- 18:47Speaker 3: the top. Detroit at seventeen they have Brian Branch would
- 18:50Speaker 3: again more like a nickel pere nickel player. What about
- 18:54Speaker 3: those are the teams that I just look at just
- 18:56Speaker 3: based off of talent. He's obviously one of the best
- 18:58Speaker 3: and this draft and I I just know that those
- 19:00Speaker 3: teams are well run, good drafting organizations. And then the
- 19:04Speaker 3: last one I would throw out there that makes all
- 19:06Speaker 3: the sense if he falls is Pittsburgh at twenty one,
- 19:09Speaker 3: who again has a horrible secondary.
- 19:13Speaker 1: What about chief Horrible? The Chiefs have an opening. The
- 19:17Speaker 1: Chiefs have an opening in their secondary.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Now sure, yeah, Horrible was strong.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Actually, I think there's another guy you're going to say
- 19:23Speaker 1: that I think the Chiefs are going to take. But
- 19:25Speaker 1: you do year three before I do mine, because it
- 19:27Speaker 1: doesn't make sense to okay.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Number two Monroe Freeling, the Georgia left tackle, puts up
- 19:35Speaker 3: at six seven three fifteen with nearly thirty five inch arms,
- 19:39Speaker 3: so just literally built in a lab, the pro tackle,
- 19:42Speaker 3: that's the prototype.
- 19:44Speaker 2: It reminded me a little bit.
- 19:46Speaker 3: His skill set and his workout reminded me a lot
- 19:48Speaker 3: of Colton Miller's coming out where the tape is a
- 19:51Speaker 3: little bit raw. He came on really strong at the
- 19:55Speaker 3: end of Georgia's season one year starter at Georgia. I
- 19:58Speaker 3: can't remember how many years Mill started, but it wasn't
- 20:01Speaker 3: a lot if I remember correctly, and Monroe feeling, you
- 20:05Speaker 3: are betting on insane traits like this is.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Sixteen starts right.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he was chiseled out of clay to play left
- 20:13Speaker 3: tackle in the NFL. It's not a lot of sample
- 20:16Speaker 3: size in terms of the film. It's a little bit streaky.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Certainly better late at Georgian, which is you know he's ascending, right,
- 20:22Speaker 3: Like that's the idea. But if you had any reservations
- 20:26Speaker 3: that Monroe Feeling was going to be in that Blake
- 20:28Speaker 3: Miller yan a chore, that cluster of tackles, he just
- 20:32Speaker 3: performed himself out.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Especially with fine right if he's going to be a guard, Yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 1: well now that bumps all the tackles up, so.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Some people he was snapping at the combine Fino.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I mean he had thirty thirty two flat thirty two
- 20:46Speaker 1: and eighth right, Yeah, he's interior, interior. I could see
- 20:49Speaker 1: him as a center. That mean very smart football player
- 20:51Speaker 1: that actually makes some sense. But is it well, I
- 20:54Speaker 1: don't know if center is going to go in the
- 20:56Speaker 1: first round. This is a really good center class. It's
- 20:58Speaker 1: like one of the two possessions the big definitively do
- 21:01Speaker 1: not need. But it's an excellent center clas.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Great center class. Last one here that you can do yours.
- 21:06Speaker 3: I don't know we have overlap. So I wanted to
- 21:08Speaker 3: include this one because we've talked a lot about him
- 21:11Speaker 3: off the air, and I want to bring it on
- 21:13Speaker 3: the air about this conversation at tight end. There's no
- 21:16Speaker 3: doubt that Eli Stowers had a great workout, like he's
- 21:19Speaker 3: great athletic testing The forty five and a half inch
- 21:22Speaker 3: vertical is insane like that. That's the when you look
- 21:25Speaker 3: at tight ends, you know you want them to be
- 21:27Speaker 3: able to win above the rim. You want them to
- 21:28Speaker 3: have great you know, catch radius and red zone ability
- 21:32Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. And he certainly checked
- 21:34Speaker 3: all those boxes four or five to one. Not blazing fast,
- 21:37Speaker 3: but certainly above average for that position. He tested extremely well.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I think this is a philosophical conversation that I can
- 21:46Speaker 3: acknowledge that Eli Stoweres tested extremely well while also saying
- 21:50Speaker 3: that it's not my cup of tea the type of
- 21:52Speaker 3: tight end that he is. I think the issue that
- 21:54Speaker 3: I have with Eli Stowers is I'm trying to figure
- 21:57Speaker 3: out as if I put my offensive coordinator.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Hat on, not my draft hat, my draft hat.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Obviously, you can see the skill set, you can see
- 22:05Speaker 3: the athleticism.
- 22:06Speaker 2: You get it.
- 22:07Speaker 1: That's in a bubble, But when you look at him
- 22:08Speaker 1: in the context of the Patriots.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and just where what matchups is he creating that
- 22:16Speaker 3: are favorable to the offense with basically admitting that he
- 22:20Speaker 3: cannot block it all, Like, there's no the perimeter blocking
- 22:24Speaker 3: is fine, but I'm not drafting a guy at tight
- 22:27Speaker 3: end to block corners on the perimeter on a screen
- 22:30Speaker 3: or something like that.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Right, it's not what I'm handing the dirt rights to
- 22:33Speaker 1: the tackle.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah, or at least, like, can we at least block
- 22:36Speaker 3: a safety or a nickel corner out of a fit?
- 22:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:39Speaker 3: Like, we got to be able to do something in
- 22:41Speaker 3: the run game. And he just really doesn't have a
- 22:43Speaker 3: lot of upside in that regard. He's some smooth athlete,
- 22:47Speaker 3: He's fantastic after the catch, He's really good with the
- 22:49Speaker 3: ball in his hands. He's got that vertical ability to
- 22:52Speaker 3: go up and get the football. I see all the
- 22:54Speaker 3: receiving upside, all the guys that have are in this
- 22:57Speaker 3: archetype that I can think of recently in recent history.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I think the the number one guy in my mind
- 23:04Speaker 3: that fits this archetype that's probably the apex is Dalton Kinkaid.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And Dalton Kinkaid's a really good receiver.
- 23:10Speaker 3: But the problem that the Big the Bills found out
- 23:13Speaker 3: is that Dalton Kinkaid is a really good receiver, right,
- 23:17Speaker 3: so he doesn't really do anything that a traditional in
- 23:20Speaker 3: line tight end does. So that's why in Buffalo they
- 23:23Speaker 3: paid Dawson Knox, they drafted Jackson Hawes, and they basically
- 23:27Speaker 3: built their offense around the fact that Dalton Kinkaid is
- 23:30Speaker 3: like a souped up slot receiver and so that as
- 23:33Speaker 3: a result, Dalton Kinkaid's playing time is not that high,
- 23:37Speaker 3: like you'd be surprised like his actual snap rate versus
- 23:40Speaker 3: how much talent he has, and that it's simply just
- 23:44Speaker 3: a it's a it's an actual football application of this,
- 23:48Speaker 3: like how do you get a player like that into
- 23:51Speaker 3: a high volume role, into a high volume snap count.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Last year when he can't block. And the other example
- 24:00Speaker 3: that I would just throw out there and I didn't realize.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I looked this up this morning to be accurate. Elijah
- 24:05Speaker 3: Arroyo is a little bit bigger than Stowers. He's like
- 24:07Speaker 3: an inch taller and ten pounds heavier. Yeah, it's similar,
- 24:10Speaker 3: But when I remember thinking that they were similar, and
- 24:14Speaker 3: Elijah Royo is the fiftieth overall pick by Seattle last year,
- 24:17Speaker 3: which is I think right around where Stowers is probably
- 24:19Speaker 3: not going to go, like end of the second round.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And who played over Elijah Royo in Seattle?
- 24:26Speaker 5: A J.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Barner?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Why did a J. Barner play because he can block? Right?
- 24:30Speaker 3: So, Like, if you're the Patriots, and let's just assume
- 24:33Speaker 3: that Hunter Henry is going to stay and is going
- 24:36Speaker 3: to be part of the twenty twenty six Patriots, which
- 24:38Speaker 3: I think is a safe assumption, how do you get
- 24:41Speaker 3: a package on the field that includes a guy like
- 24:45Speaker 3: Eli Stowers and a guy like Hunter Henry that presents
- 24:49Speaker 3: any sort of personnel mismatch to the offense, right, Like,
- 24:54Speaker 3: why is the defense going bigger against that grouping?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Why are they playing bass? Why are they playing big nickel?
- 25:00Speaker 3: Where is your matchup that you're getting that you're not
- 25:02Speaker 3: gonna get out of just putting eleven personnel on the
- 25:04Speaker 3: field with three wide receivers.
- 25:05Speaker 2: So that's a long winded way of saying, I just
- 25:08Speaker 2: don't know.
- 25:10Speaker 3: In theory, a player like Eli Stowers is a really
- 25:14Speaker 3: fun player, but in practice it's I think going to
- 25:18Speaker 3: be somebody that's going to be somewhat limited at the next.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So you have him as an up but not for
- 25:23Speaker 1: the Patriots basically.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Yeah, because I'm struggling to figure out, like, how do
- 25:26Speaker 3: I get this guy into a high volume roll without
- 25:30Speaker 3: being able to block? And if you let's just say
- 25:32Speaker 3: they kind of redo their entire tight end room. And
- 25:36Speaker 3: let's just take one from free agency, one from the draft.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Let's say they signed coler right, and they go out
- 25:40Speaker 3: and they signed coler as they're blocking tight end, and
- 25:43Speaker 3: they draft Stowers. Okay, great, Like I can see that now,
- 25:46Speaker 3: but now you're kind that's how you kind of have
- 25:48Speaker 3: to build. And that's exactly how what the Buffalo did
- 25:51Speaker 3: with Knox and Kincaid is like they sort of built
- 25:53Speaker 3: it that way.
- 25:53Speaker 1: But then the thing like it's not a mismatch because
- 25:56Speaker 1: you know, Okay, this guy's the receiver, this guy's the
- 25:58Speaker 1: block right to lose that you become predictable.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah, so I had him on the ups because I
- 26:02Speaker 3: thought he was he was good in the workout, and
- 26:04Speaker 3: you had to give him as due.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I just from a more like you know.
- 26:09Speaker 1: From a Patriot State time. I was to localize it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I just don't understand what, Like, how if I'm Josh McDaniels, yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and you give me Eli Stower, as I would say, great,
- 26:18Speaker 3: really talented receiver, What.
- 26:20Speaker 2: The hell am I supposed to do with him?
- 26:22Speaker 1: Right?
- 26:22Speaker 2: Like you know, I'm basically just like it's just just.
- 26:26Speaker 1: A big slot, yeah, exactly, real quick along those lines,
- 26:29Speaker 1: my nuts. I know, the like hot pick right now,
- 26:32Speaker 1: And I did this in my last mock. I couldn't
- 26:34Speaker 1: bring myself to be different enough. The hot pick is
- 26:36Speaker 1: Jeremiah Love and nine of the Chiefs. Yeah, Kenyan Citik
- 26:39Speaker 1: and nine of the Chiefs.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Is that ridiculous at this point?
- 26:41Speaker 3: No, Because Kansas City is the type of team that
- 26:43Speaker 3: bets on athletic traits all the time. They're an ana
- 26:46Speaker 3: analytically driven organization like that. Yeah, kind of like the Rams.
- 26:50Speaker 2: All right, who who did you have that I didn't have?
- 26:52Speaker 1: So all all pivot right off that. It's perfect lead.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Let's talk about another tight end, Evan, this is this
- 26:58Speaker 1: might be my guy. Now, I'm not out on Oscar
- 27:01Speaker 1: Delt by any means. I still really like Oscar Delt,
- 27:04Speaker 1: but he's suffering from a little out of sight, out
- 27:06Speaker 1: of mind after the combine. I get why he didn't
- 27:08Speaker 1: work out. He had a broken foot that he didn't
- 27:10Speaker 1: know about, which credit to him. And you know Vrabel's
- 27:13Speaker 1: gonna love that. But and I gave that whole We
- 27:16Speaker 1: gave that whole speech last week about why den't make
- 27:18Speaker 1: sense because he can block and all the things you
- 27:19Speaker 1: just said.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Hey, there's not a lot of blocking tight ends in
- 27:21Speaker 2: this draft.
- 27:22Speaker 1: No, there is one more who's also when he get
- 27:25Speaker 1: nine to nine to nine rass right, Sam Rousch, Yes,
- 27:29Speaker 1: four to seven forty thirty eight and a half inch vertical,
- 27:32Speaker 1: four to three seven shuttle at six six, two hundred
- 27:35Speaker 1: and sixty seven pounds. Now he does have thirty inch
- 27:37Speaker 1: arms thirty and a half.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And like a seventy six inch wings man.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That's short, right, Yes, okay, but like Arry, he is
- 27:46Speaker 1: an explosive athlete. Yeah, he blocks his ass off, He's
- 27:49Speaker 1: got great size, he is somebody that can truly do
- 27:52Speaker 1: a little bit of everything. Funny enough, you just gave
- 27:55Speaker 1: the whole thing about Kincaid. Have you seen who lander
- 27:58Speaker 1: Alians comp is for Sam? No, it was Adulton Knocks.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think it's.
- 28:03Speaker 1: An underrated player. So I thought he had a great combine.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I did not expect him to test nearly that well athletically,
- 28:09Speaker 1: but you know, going back and watching, it's like, Okay,
- 28:11Speaker 1: I missed this, that's on me. He to me, is
- 28:14Speaker 1: exactly the kind of tight end the Patriot should be targeting.
- 28:17Speaker 3: So I agree with everything that you said. I think
- 28:20Speaker 3: that he's the exact kind of tight end that gets
- 28:23Speaker 3: better in the pros than he was in college. There's
- 28:26Speaker 3: a lot of refinement needed in his game, and I
- 28:30Speaker 3: think some of his blocking issues in terms of techniques
- 28:34Speaker 3: them from the length. You know, he just doesn't have
- 28:36Speaker 3: very long arms and doesn't have a very wide torso,
- 28:39Speaker 3: so that does limit him somewhat blocking wise, and I'd
- 28:42Speaker 3: say a little bit catch radius wise too. In the
- 28:45Speaker 3: passing game, his routes, anything that involves like a cut
- 28:50Speaker 3: or a break in his routes are rough. You know,
- 28:52Speaker 3: his his spacing, his depth of the route, he kind
- 28:56Speaker 3: of has to like settle and like.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Sink and move in. That's seventy pounds.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Yeah, there's just a lot of the deceleration in the
- 29:04Speaker 3: ability to start and stop is not fully there, not
- 29:07Speaker 3: fully developed yet. That being said, there are times where
- 29:11Speaker 3: he gets going on a runway on like a crossing
- 29:14Speaker 3: route or a seam where he's really tough to cover,
- 29:17Speaker 3: you know, like he's a guy that There was a
- 29:19Speaker 3: couple of clips that I pulled watching him the other
- 29:22Speaker 3: day where he's like opening space for others because they're like,
- 29:25Speaker 3: holy crap, there's two hundred and sixty five pound tight
- 29:27Speaker 3: ends coming downhill at me.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I got to carry this vertical and then all of
- 29:30Speaker 2: a sudden, there's this big void, right.
- 29:32Speaker 3: You know, he's got that ability and he certainly has
- 29:35Speaker 3: this size to be a really good blocker.
- 29:37Speaker 2: He's your classic fourth fifth round pick.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that in two years is like one of the better,
- 29:43Speaker 3: you know, top twenty tight ends in the league because
- 29:45Speaker 3: somebody gets his hands on him and coaches him and
- 29:48Speaker 3: gets it and he's.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Look, I've said this a lot when people are talking
- 29:50Speaker 1: about some of the athletic traits for the tight ends, Like, yes,
- 29:54Speaker 1: the Patriots need to add explosive downfield playmakers this offseason.
- 29:57Speaker 1: That is true. Not every person they add needs to
- 30:01Speaker 1: be that. And there's still is value in being a
- 30:03Speaker 1: chain mover, and I'm perfectly fine, Like if they go
- 30:05Speaker 1: out and add by the way, I'll just throw this
- 30:07Speaker 1: out there, Alec Pierce to Kay Adams, I love Indy,
- 30:12Speaker 1: but at this point I've kind of earned the right
- 30:14Speaker 1: to explore free agency. See what's out there. So that's
- 30:16Speaker 1: what Alec. I know, get more to him later, But like, right,
- 30:19Speaker 1: if you add in Alec Pierce, that's your explosive threat.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I'm fine with the tight end being the chain mover.
- 30:23Speaker 1: He's this, isn't it. Sam rous is not the chain mover. No,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Sam Roush is the explosive guy. So if that's what
- 30:28Speaker 1: you want. But he can also block eye opening combine
- 30:32Speaker 1: for me. For him, I thought he was really.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Under He's a play action running the crossing route right
- 30:38Speaker 3: behind the linebackers. Hit him, hit him on in stride,
- 30:41Speaker 3: let him rumble after the catch. He's got that ability
- 30:43Speaker 3: at his size too. He's just really hard to bring down.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yeah he's not elusive, but he's just really hard to
- 30:48Speaker 3: bring down because he's so big and he can run
- 30:51Speaker 3: so fast. So yeah, he was impressive on film. He
- 30:54Speaker 3: definitely moves really really well. He's just a raw ball
- 30:57Speaker 3: of clay right now.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll go, I'll stay on offense. The Manual Pregnant,
- 31:02Speaker 1: the guard from Oregon really smooth field workout. I liked
- 31:06Speaker 1: his game for a long time, but I always kind
- 31:08Speaker 1: of thought of him as a maler yeap and those
- 31:10Speaker 1: guys don't usually test as well for him to be
- 31:12Speaker 1: as nimble as he is and knowing the power that
- 31:15Speaker 1: he plays with, Okay, Yeah, Like I don't know, and
- 31:20Speaker 1: I was telling you, you're famously you you famously a
- 31:24Speaker 1: pretty strong takes about guards in the first round, but like,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you know, if they can add an edge rusher, adding
- 31:29Speaker 1: Alec Pierce something like that, even if they don't, because
- 31:31Speaker 1: we'll get to edge more like if they adding Alec
- 31:33Speaker 1: Pearson wide receiver and that box is checked and the
- 31:35Speaker 1: tackles are gone, Like is a Manual Pregnant a fit
- 31:38Speaker 1: at thirty one or if they trade back a little bit.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I don't know why I feel a little bit different
- 31:44Speaker 3: about it this time. I think probably because they just
- 31:46Speaker 3: made the Super Bowl and like I feel like their
- 31:48Speaker 3: roster is a little bit closer.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Than it was in twenty twenty two.
- 31:51Speaker 3: My biggest thing in twenty twenty two is that they
- 31:55Speaker 3: made the playoffs as a wildcard team and then got
- 31:57Speaker 3: smoked by the Bills. Yeah, and so they really weren't close.
- 32:00Speaker 3: They really had a long way to go. This team
- 32:02Speaker 3: also has a ways to go, but not nearly as
- 32:05Speaker 3: long of a road. So if you're telling me that
- 32:07Speaker 3: they come out of free agency with an edge rusher
- 32:11Speaker 3: Alec Pierce, and basically they set up their.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Boards, say it's just Alec Pierce, I.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Would still probably go edge there.
- 32:18Speaker 1: See, I think there's some really good Day two edge options.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I still might there's a case for it, certainly, but like, yeah,
- 32:23Speaker 1: let's say it's pregnant, and then I'm trying to think
- 32:26Speaker 1: of the guys that you like on Day two.
- 32:28Speaker 3: I think the issue with the Day two guys is,
- 32:30Speaker 3: as I kind of worked my way through them, is
- 32:31Speaker 3: that a lot of them are you know, once you
- 32:33Speaker 3: get to that point in the draft, you're kind of
- 32:35Speaker 3: talking projection wise. Situational players like Malki Lawrence I think
- 32:41Speaker 3: is really really talented guy. Yeah, early on in his career,
- 32:44Speaker 3: he's going to be a designated pass rusher, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 3: third down specialist. Romelo Heights another guy that you know
- 32:50Speaker 3: I really like. He's like two hundred and forty pounds,
- 32:53Speaker 3: so early on in his career, he's probably going to
- 32:55Speaker 3: just be a third down specialist. I know a lot
- 32:58Speaker 3: of people like the kid from Penn State, Sutton right, a.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Big, big dude, the dentist.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I think that he's probably an early down edge setter
- 33:06Speaker 3: to start his career, and then maybe the pass rush
- 33:09Speaker 3: stuff gets developed and he hits his stride with the
- 33:12Speaker 3: pass russ stuff. So like all those guys like at
- 33:14Speaker 3: thirty one, I think that you could get a Mesador,
- 33:18Speaker 3: you could get a cash as how who could probably
- 33:20Speaker 3: play every single down early as you know, maybe even
- 33:23Speaker 3: their rookie seasons. I just think that that's pretty valuable.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I would also just rather go the other way with
- 33:28Speaker 3: the guard position in general and sign somebody in free agency.
- 33:32Speaker 2: But yeah, it pregnanized.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I guess pregnant as a whole. I was trying.
- 33:35Speaker 2: To I'm not as upset about it this year as
- 33:40Speaker 2: I was.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Well, could some of it be the player too?
- 33:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a good player, and I think that he
- 33:44Speaker 3: fits a lot of what I want them to do
- 33:46Speaker 3: next to Campbell.
- 33:47Speaker 1: And not just what you want them to do. I
- 33:48Speaker 1: go back to and we talked about this was it
- 33:50Speaker 1: last week. Rabel told you guys about need to get
- 33:52Speaker 1: stronger up front, like plays with a ton of power.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, plays with a ton.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Of power, wide body, really good anchor, you know, a
- 34:00Speaker 3: really good ability to just put his feet in the
- 34:03Speaker 3: ground and stop movement when they rush him. Obviously people
- 34:07Speaker 3: move into run game. He kind of reminds me a
- 34:09Speaker 3: little bit of not as big, but kind of a
- 34:11Speaker 3: little bit of unwinnu in the sense that, like, I
- 34:13Speaker 3: don't think that he's like a nasty finisher. Yeah, he's
- 34:17Speaker 3: just strong, you know, and I think that maybe you
- 34:19Speaker 3: could you wish that there was a little bit more
- 34:22Speaker 3: of that, you know, Logan.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Mankins, you know, kind of snarl in him.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Oh see, I see, I see more of that.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Okay, So if he has more of that than I'm
- 34:30Speaker 3: giving him the Mankins.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But I wouldn't call it a want.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I want somebody that's gonna, you know, set a tone.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Let me watch your musical. Did you watch him right
- 34:40Speaker 1: after Vega?
- 34:42Speaker 2: I I think I watched him before Vega and then
- 34:44Speaker 2: I watched Vegas.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Okay, so that's well, Vega is gonna because it's an unfair.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Well because at first I didn't want to.
- 34:51Speaker 3: I didn't know if I was gonna spend too much
- 34:52Speaker 3: time on Vega, but I was like, all right, whatever,
- 34:54Speaker 3: I'll pop it.
- 34:56Speaker 1: That guy's nastiness is another life that you can't you
- 34:59Speaker 1: compare anybody to him. They're gonna come up.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I think that for the reasons I just outlined.
- 35:06Speaker 3: If they set themselves up where left guard is a
- 35:09Speaker 3: spot where they can kind of go aggressively pursuing the draft.
- 35:13Speaker 2: He fits a lot of the the mold of the player.
- 35:16Speaker 3: You know why body physical, good anchor stout player, heavy.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Handed in the run game.
- 35:21Speaker 3: You know, that's the type of player that you would
- 35:23Speaker 3: ideally like to put next to in between Wilson and
- 35:26Speaker 3: Campbell on your line of the future.
- 35:28Speaker 2: You don't want to.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Put a you know, I see a couple of emails
- 35:32Speaker 3: about the Texas A and M guard, but I think
- 35:34Speaker 3: is really talented, Yeah, really talented, But he's more to
- 35:38Speaker 3: me like a pass blocking guard, Like he's kind of
- 35:41Speaker 3: another one of these like athletes at the position pregnant
- 35:45Speaker 3: is a he's.
- 35:45Speaker 1: A bullsah, and it's mostly those athlete types, so there
- 35:48Speaker 1: are aren't a ton of those. Yeah, all right, my
- 35:50Speaker 1: last one, I guess I should go defense. Whould you
- 35:52Speaker 1: rather talk about Darryl Jackson or Jacob Rodriguez Jacob brodrig Okay,
- 35:58Speaker 1: let's go Jacobs.
- 35:59Speaker 2: I think Jacob Brodrig as a darn good.
- 36:01Speaker 1: So here's the thing to me with Jacob Rodriguez, and
- 36:03Speaker 1: I I liked him before I Texas Tech was like
- 36:05Speaker 1: one of my favorite teams to watch this season, just
- 36:08Speaker 1: as much as you can. We revisit this conversation.
- 36:11Speaker 2: And they got they got dudes on defense. I'll give
- 36:13Speaker 2: you that.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You you Evan, We we were at Good Food Store
- 36:16Speaker 1: win Friday and I'm telling him the heye his text
- 36:18Speaker 1: good this year and he was furious with the concert.
- 36:20Speaker 2: The Texas Tech was good good good food store reference.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Well, they're there. Their tackle is going to be a
- 36:26Speaker 1: top one hundred pick and he's just not eligible yet.
- 36:28Speaker 1: He's gonna be I was, but he can play.
- 36:30Speaker 3: You would you would like this quick aside at the combine? Yeah,
- 36:34Speaker 3: Normally when you go to the combine, it's Indianapolis.
- 36:37Speaker 2: There's a lot of colts. Yeah, college basketball.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, Caitlin Clark big there this year.
- 36:47Speaker 2: It's all Indiana, we had them.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Uh, But Fernando Mendoza was the most popular person in
- 36:54Speaker 3: Indianapolis over the week. Sure he was a rock star.
- 36:58Speaker 3: It was cool star. I got it was Indiana football.
- 37:02Speaker 1: No, it's crazy, not so crazy to me. Yeah, I
- 37:05Speaker 1: Signette might be pound for pound, the best coaches for
- 37:07Speaker 1: right now.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and what he did with it was a complete
- 37:10Speaker 2: makeover of what it normally is. That's all Indiana.
- 37:13Speaker 1: But Rodriguez so like, yeah, you know, I have a
- 37:16Speaker 1: soft spot for the former quarterbacks. Whatever position you're playing,
- 37:18Speaker 1: if it's former quarterback, my eyes open up.
- 37:20Speaker 3: A little bit of off ball linebackers that were former quarterbacks.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Off ball linebackers and receivers are the two. Yeah, this
- 37:26Speaker 1: is like who's in a horner a couple of years
- 37:28Speaker 1: ago anyway, But like watching Jacob Rodriguez, really smart football player,
- 37:33Speaker 1: great instincts, plays very physically, forces turnovers, excellent communicator. Like
- 37:39Speaker 1: the only thing with him to me coming into this
- 37:42Speaker 1: was he might not test very well.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know he's.
- 37:45Speaker 1: A little bit old school, big lumbering. I think he
- 37:48Speaker 1: cut some weight, so that probably helped him measure it
- 37:51Speaker 1: in a six one two thirty one. I think he
- 37:52Speaker 1: probably played closer to two forty. But he was like
- 37:55Speaker 1: one of the best athletic testers among the linebackers. Runs
- 37:58Speaker 1: a four or five seven thirty eight and a half
- 38:00Speaker 1: inch vertical sub seven three cone. So you're telling me
- 38:04Speaker 1: all that stuff I saw in the fall. Oh, and
- 38:07Speaker 1: he's a better athlete than I thought. Sign me the
- 38:09Speaker 1: hell up. Put that guy next to Roberts. Plain You've
- 38:11Speaker 1: got a great linebacker duo that is going to be
- 38:14Speaker 1: an advantage every time they're on the field together.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, Like he kind of got type casted
- 38:18Speaker 3: as this try hard, you know, lunch pale.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Kind of guy, which he is.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but it turns out he's also a stellar athlete.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Like he's a top fifty player in this draft.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, they're gonna have to, Like you can't
- 38:30Speaker 1: get I've seen people mocking him at sixty three. You
- 38:32Speaker 1: gotta move up. Yeah, and thirty one still probably too early,
- 38:35Speaker 1: maybe if you.
- 38:36Speaker 3: The reason why he follows to sixty three is because
- 38:38Speaker 3: he's an inside linebacker. In the league is valuing inside
- 38:41Speaker 3: linebackers less and less.
- 38:42Speaker 1: And I think he's a little bit older, right, he's
- 38:44Speaker 1: a twenty three turns twenty four September.
- 38:47Speaker 3: You have that kind of production combined with this now
- 38:52Speaker 3: athletic profile. That's a that's check check right.
- 38:56Speaker 1: And by the way, my thing about the turnovers seven
- 38:58Speaker 1: force fumbles, Foregner said last year. Yeah, so I'm a
- 39:02Speaker 1: big this is a Jacob Rodriguez podcast. We were big
- 39:05Speaker 1: Jacob Rodriguez fans over here again. Might end up being
- 39:08Speaker 1: a tweeter pick for the Patriots would be unfortunate, but
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna be very, very very happy if they come
- 39:13Speaker 1: away with Jacob Rodriguez. He was a standout for.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Me, Okay, anymore?
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean I got a couple more, Like I said Derek,
- 39:20Speaker 1: so Dds.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Was one our best rapid fire all right.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So I'll give you. I'll give you a couple more,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and you stop me when you hear a namy like
- 39:27Speaker 1: Kyle lewis sort of similar tested athletically than I thought Dds,
- 39:31Speaker 1: I thought had a good one, was kind of getting
- 39:33Speaker 1: type cast. Is more plotting. Malachi Lawrence, great athlete, Darryl Jackson,
- 39:38Speaker 1: the defensive tackle from Florida State. That guy's all limbs,
- 39:42Speaker 1: but he carries through into twenty pounds excellently, so you know,
- 39:45Speaker 1: if they want another athletic inside guy, obviously Jennings Dunker
- 39:50Speaker 1: as a football player, not just the hair.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, let's can we can we give Jennings
- 39:54Speaker 3: Dunker the football player some love football play.
- 39:57Speaker 2: It's a hell of a man, all right. It's a
- 39:58Speaker 2: great tweet us.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And you say, like, it's hard to like Jennings Dunker
- 40:02Speaker 1: in this environment because I don't just like him for
- 40:03Speaker 1: there we just.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Talk about like how Jennings Dunker is going to be
- 40:06Speaker 3: a really really good guard.
- 40:07Speaker 1: And you want to talk about the nasty mall er thing.
- 40:10Speaker 3: And I and when I watched him, uh you know,
- 40:12Speaker 3: watch this film, I was like, Okay, well, yeah, like
- 40:16Speaker 3: he has all these deficiencies, but it's because he's playing outside,
- 40:19Speaker 3: like he's a little bit slower, plotting kind of kind
- 40:22Speaker 3: of tackle. But once you move him back inside, once
- 40:25Speaker 3: you move him inside, like all this stuff is going
- 40:26Speaker 3: to get.
- 40:27Speaker 1: So let me gonna get less. And the answer is
- 40:30Speaker 1: probably no. But I just want to ask the question
- 40:32Speaker 1: because I know people are going to have the question
- 40:34Speaker 1: because he was the right tackle at Iowa State. Yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: and he played it well at Iowa State. Again, he's
- 40:38Speaker 1: probably gonna move into the next level if they can't
- 40:41Speaker 1: get Morgan Moses' replacement this year, like the long term, right,
- 40:46Speaker 1: Let's say you draft Jennings Dunker in the second round. Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 1: if Moses takes a step back or gets hurt or whatever,
- 40:51Speaker 1: would you be comfortable with him as an emergency right
- 40:54Speaker 1: tackle if they don't see the next guy.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Is he a guy that could play tackle in a
- 40:59Speaker 2: pitch pinch?
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 41:01Speaker 3: I think probably with a lot of help. His foot
- 41:05Speaker 3: speed is rough at so like.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Let's say they don't get like why do I keep
- 41:11Speaker 1: Hochin or yeah, you don't know, I can't get this
- 41:14Speaker 1: Hochin or or Blake Miller, Blake Miller one of those guys. Right, Yeah,
- 41:18Speaker 1: but they have Jennings Dunker and that's just like the
- 41:21Speaker 1: backup plan for the year.
- 41:22Speaker 2: But it's not a long term thing. He's got some flexibility. Okay,
- 41:26Speaker 2: he could do it.
- 41:26Speaker 3: I think that you would need to give him a
- 41:28Speaker 3: lot of help, especially against really good high.
- 41:30Speaker 1: And acknowledging that it's not he's not going to be
- 41:32Speaker 1: the ultimate replacement. But you have that option, yeah, because there's.
- 41:35Speaker 3: If you're facing a guy you know that rushes over there,
- 41:38Speaker 3: right tackle that's got some real pier speed off the edge.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gonna need some help.
- 41:42Speaker 1: So that's just you know, it adds a little bit
- 41:44Speaker 1: of value if he can do that a couple other guys.
- 41:46Speaker 1: You know, I love my oversized offensive lineman. Sure, you
- 41:49Speaker 1: know that's a thing for me. How it help seven
- 41:53Speaker 1: inch arms? The obvious Trent Brown comp here's one for you.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I don't know if you've watched him yet. What was
- 42:01Speaker 1: that just a little Okay, if they can't get or
- 42:05Speaker 1: they don't get the right tackle on the top one hundred,
- 42:07Speaker 1: but they still want to get the project guy. I
- 42:08Speaker 1: do have one guy on day three that maybe.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Helps them fill the needy.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Emil Wagner from Notre Dame.
- 42:15Speaker 2: So I thought he had a good workout.
- 42:16Speaker 1: He did. Now he got his butt kicked by Ruben
- 42:19Speaker 1: Bain early in the season. No, it was I think
- 42:22Speaker 1: eight pressures allowed, like undraftable level. It was pretty bad.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But after that, from that point on he was excellent.
- 42:30Speaker 1: And after he only started for two years, there's something
- 42:33Speaker 1: to be said. I think we talked about this with
- 42:35Speaker 1: some guys last year, players that are on the upswing, Like, okay,
- 42:39Speaker 1: this guy looks raw, but he's getting better and you
- 42:41Speaker 1: can see the progress in real time. Like him as
- 42:44Speaker 1: the day three right tackle option. I'd rather they addressed
- 42:47Speaker 1: it earlier. But I don't hate a couple other names
- 42:50Speaker 1: unless you have a strong thought on Wagner, No Dalen Everett.
- 42:54Speaker 1: You know. I like Corner for them as they need
- 42:56Speaker 1: more than some people early on day three with the
- 42:58Speaker 1: idea that in a year he's going to step in
- 43:00Speaker 1: for Carlton Davis. Charles Dennings is like the small school
- 43:03Speaker 1: darling this year I think had himself a good workout.
- 43:08Speaker 1: We talked about them and A. J. Halsey my guy.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Do you watch VJ. Payne, the safety from Kenny State.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I was not aware of this guy six three two
- 43:17Speaker 1: o six four four forty smooth move around the field.
- 43:20Speaker 1: That's he does a little bit of everything. Little slock corner,
- 43:22Speaker 1: little box, little free, Elliott Wolf's like the days of
- 43:25Speaker 1: the Patrick Chung and Devin mccordy dynamic I think are gone. Yeah,
- 43:29Speaker 1: they want the guys in the case everything, Kyle Duggart box,
- 43:32Speaker 1: true box, That's what I'm saying, Like did the free
- 43:35Speaker 1: and the strong? Like they want everything? So VJ. Payne
- 43:38Speaker 1: put him on your list to watch.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Okay, let's do dance. He does enough names, Hang on,
- 43:42Speaker 2: wait at a couple more?
- 43:44Speaker 1: I had a couple more, No, John Michael Gillenborg like that,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and oh I got because we we've gotten calls. I
- 43:50Speaker 1: got two more. We've gotten calls on Skyler Bell. Yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 1: actually diving in on Skyler Bell. I was impressed. And
- 43:56Speaker 1: I don't know how he makes sense for the Patriots.
- 43:57Speaker 1: I think they more want the X.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:59Speaker 1: If they hutt Digs or move on from Diggs, it's
- 44:01Speaker 1: another story. I was really impressed. And then I have
- 44:04Speaker 1: to ask you about Jeff Caldwell. What do we do
- 44:07Speaker 1: about Jeff Caldwell?
- 44:08Speaker 2: Nothing like so an athlete.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Jeff call is six five two sixteen. Yeah, he's a
- 44:15Speaker 1: great as ran a four to three to one with
- 44:17Speaker 1: a forty two inch vertical. I mean it's just insane.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but he has no routree.
- 44:21Speaker 1: He played three years of FCS, went to Cincinnati last year,
- 44:24Speaker 1: caught like thirty passes. He did practically nothing. Yeah, he's
- 44:27Speaker 1: there at one oh eight. It's like their last of
- 44:30Speaker 1: the four six round pick two O eight. Sorry, it's
- 44:32Speaker 1: the last of their four six round picks.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Fine.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I think he's gonna get Taekwon Thornton and end up
- 44:37Speaker 1: going like top one hundred because somebody loves the workout
- 44:39Speaker 1: and probably won't work out. But I think that made
- 44:42Speaker 1: me address it. He had a very impressive play.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Do you bring him? Man? And you know, is he
- 44:48Speaker 2: is he a ross roll player? I don't know. I
- 44:50Speaker 2: guess maybe in special team.
- 44:51Speaker 1: So that's the thing for me, is like, if you
- 44:52Speaker 1: draft him, he could probably play special teams at that profile.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe with a gunner or something like that.
- 44:58Speaker 6: Uh.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Is he a great scout team receiver because he's like
- 45:02Speaker 3: a freak athlete with all the measure right, Like sure,
- 45:06Speaker 3: Like there's a role for him in an NFL.
- 45:07Speaker 1: The one other organization.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I just I don't think it's anything.
- 45:11Speaker 1: His agility testing was okay too. They've talked about wanting
- 45:14Speaker 1: size and kick return return kicks.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Oh my god, a six foot five guy who returning
- 45:19Speaker 3: kicks with that speed? Okay, like Corderill Patterson style. Okay,
- 45:23Speaker 3: all right, he's on my radar. Are you done? Yeah, Okay,
- 45:26Speaker 3: let's go to the downs. So I didn't have a
- 45:29Speaker 3: ton honestly, because I.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's hard to downce from the combine.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah it is, but I have a big picture when
- 45:34Speaker 3: I wanted to bring up my number one down is
- 45:37Speaker 3: the NFL combine. Yes, thank you, this is this is
- 45:41Speaker 3: a youd. This is a very very so I didn't
- 45:46Speaker 3: even think to do this. My number one down is
- 45:48Speaker 3: the NFL Combine. And the reason why I bring this
- 45:50Speaker 3: up is I'll give you the stats here in a second,
- 45:53Speaker 3: but I just opened the show. I love the combine.
- 45:56Speaker 3: This is one of my favorite events. And it's not
- 45:58Speaker 3: just because it's the underwear Olympics. I just love the event.
- 46:01Speaker 3: I think it's great time. I think it's NFL spring
- 46:03Speaker 3: Break with like a little bit of work sprinkled in.
- 46:05Speaker 3: It's perfect, right, So I don't want it to go away.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Like I have a great time every year, I don't
- 46:10Speaker 3: want it to go away. But that being said, thirty
- 46:13Speaker 3: seven percent participation rate among the prospects in the actual
- 46:17Speaker 3: athletic test is why it was the fastest combine of
- 46:19Speaker 3: all time survivor bias one hundred percent. Absolutely thirty seven percent,
- 46:23Speaker 3: and even Jeremiah was bringing up by the end of
- 46:25Speaker 3: the week. Yeah, and to the point at the thirty
- 46:27Speaker 3: seven percent too. I would also add nobody does the
- 46:29Speaker 3: agilities anymore.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Nope, because it's it's at the very very end.
- 46:36Speaker 3: And if you look at the historical data, there are
- 46:38Speaker 3: positions where three code and short shuttle are like the
- 46:41Speaker 3: most important thing at that position. Uh, and nobody does
- 46:45Speaker 3: it anymore. Yeah, so that that's a big issue. I
- 46:49Speaker 3: know you're going to love this. The Shanahan tree doesn't
- 46:52Speaker 3: go McVeigh, Kyle Shanahan, Liam Cohne. I heard that Laflord,
- 46:58Speaker 3: Matt Laford, the Packers like popped in for a minute
- 47:02Speaker 3: and then left like he was there for like twenty
- 47:04Speaker 3: four hours or something like that. So the shannanentry, which
- 47:07Speaker 3: is like a third of the league practically, because they.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Think they're smarter than everybody, say enough to go.
- 47:12Speaker 3: The coaches and gms for those teams don't go period.
- 47:16Speaker 3: So is that just a unique thing to them. Maybe
- 47:20Speaker 3: the thirty seven percent participation rates not great Obviously. I
- 47:24Speaker 3: don't hold it against any of the top prospects in
- 47:27Speaker 3: this draft.
- 47:28Speaker 2: To not work out.
- 47:30Speaker 3: They don't need any draft on the tape, they don't
- 47:32Speaker 3: need to have anything else to prove. There's no reason
- 47:35Speaker 3: for Fernanda mendoz A to throw at the combat.
- 47:37Speaker 2: You have like Day two guys not doing it.
- 47:38Speaker 3: You have Day two guys not doing it, and they're
- 47:40Speaker 3: not doing it, and I get it, but they're not
- 47:43Speaker 3: doing it because their agents are advising them. You're not
- 47:45Speaker 3: going to test well, right, so why would we hurt
- 47:47Speaker 3: your stock?
- 47:48Speaker 2: Well, you're not gonna if you're gonna run a.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Four to sixty five as a wide receiver, We're just
- 47:52Speaker 3: not gonna have you run.
- 47:53Speaker 2: That would be stupid on our part.
- 47:55Speaker 3: It's a problem they the event as itself is, are
- 48:00Speaker 3: we getting to the point where it's kind of getting
- 48:02Speaker 3: outdated and like archaic and we need to rethink it?
- 48:05Speaker 1: And he mentioned the worst one. Yeah they got the
- 48:08Speaker 1: arm lines wrong again. Okay, well yeah, but that's now
- 48:11Speaker 1: like an inch and a half off for some guys.
- 48:13Speaker 2: I get that.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Forget not running. At what point are to me? To
- 48:16Speaker 1: me the big pointman's agent's gonna say, we're not gonna
- 48:18Speaker 1: have you measure in.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Yeah, we're at the point now where I just think
- 48:21Speaker 3: the number one thing and maybe this kind of is
- 48:23Speaker 3: a supplemental arguments along with its participation. Right, the big
- 48:29Speaker 3: coaches and gms, A lot of those guys are sitting
- 48:31Speaker 3: it out all the prospects are starting to sit it out,
- 48:34Speaker 3: and we're just at the point now where I think
- 48:37Speaker 3: it's just kind of losing a lot of it's luster.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I think a lot of the value in the interviews
- 48:44Speaker 3: and the medicals is still there. But do you need
- 48:47Speaker 3: this week long, you know, parade of an event for
- 48:51Speaker 3: somebody to have a doctor go in and picking proud
- 48:53Speaker 3: of me, you know what I mean?
- 48:55Speaker 2: Like, it's just every sport has some form of this.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Yeah, like Baseball has the Winter Meetings, Basketball has a Combine,
- 49:03Speaker 1: Basketball has a combin. NHL I don't know if they do.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I think the NHL's is like the draft itself. Yeah,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I think that's the it's and it's not about what
- 49:09Speaker 1: the event is. Like Baseball, there's so much more that
- 49:12Speaker 1: goes on at the Winter Meetings than what people think,
- 49:15Speaker 1: Just like the Combine, there's so much more in terms
- 49:17Speaker 1: of the industry element, the networking it. Like that's if
- 49:19Speaker 1: you work in the NFL, whether you work for a
- 49:22Speaker 1: team where you if you work in medical, if you
- 49:23Speaker 1: work in the front office, if you work in media, obviously,
- 49:25Speaker 1: like that is the big industry, like any whatever industry
- 49:29Speaker 1: you're working out there listening, I'm sure, there's the big
- 49:32Speaker 1: industry conference event whatever you want to call.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It, like analytics conference.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Yeah, favorite, that's what this is for football, so you
- 49:40Speaker 1: have to have some version of that. But maybe sure,
- 49:42Speaker 1: what the prospect's working out?
- 49:43Speaker 7: A right?
- 49:44Speaker 1: Who else you have for downs?
- 49:45Speaker 3: Malchi Fields number one down player wise four six one
- 49:51Speaker 3: in the forty yard dash. I also thought what was
- 49:54Speaker 3: maybe even more problematic was his agilities were bad too. Yeah,
- 49:58Speaker 3: I had concerns about his top end speed watching him
- 50:01Speaker 3: on tape, like his ability to stack corners on the
- 50:04Speaker 3: outside and pull away from press coverage and all that
- 50:07Speaker 3: good stuff. He basically typecasted himself with this workout. And
- 50:11Speaker 3: this kind of goes back to my number one thing.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Whoever was advising mal Chai Fields, why did you have
- 50:15Speaker 3: him test? Like right, this was his number one red FLA.
- 50:18Speaker 1: So at a certain point to it's kind of like
- 50:21Speaker 1: it started to cut you off.
- 50:22Speaker 2: But that's okay.
- 50:23Speaker 1: It's kind of like this for bowl games where players
- 50:25Speaker 1: opted out, and it used to be players got knocked
- 50:28Speaker 1: for opting out, but then it became so normalized that
- 50:31Speaker 1: the inverse started happening and we gave players credit. We
- 50:34Speaker 1: give players credit for participating. They were talking about the
- 50:37Speaker 1: COMBA this year. A lot of guys participated this year
- 50:38Speaker 1: in Bowl games. Yeah, are we going to hit a
- 50:40Speaker 1: tipping point where it's well, you know, but he tested,
- 50:43Speaker 1: and good for him. That shows like a competitive spirit
- 50:45Speaker 1: even in test win.
- 50:46Speaker 3: I will allow for that, and I will say that
- 50:48Speaker 3: I'm on that side, like if he wants to just
- 50:51Speaker 3: go out there as a competitor and compete. Like, the
- 50:54Speaker 3: two guys that I was really looking at for forty
- 50:57Speaker 3: times were him and Sarat the receiver from Indiana, Boston.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Boston.
- 51:02Speaker 3: I guess a little bit too, but those two guys
- 51:04Speaker 3: specifically were the two guys that I was really the
- 51:06Speaker 3: most concerned about in terms of top end straight line speed.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Olijaa rat sat out athletic testing. Malchi Fields tested. Malachi
- 51:15Speaker 3: Fields tested poorly. And when you're in a combine where
- 51:18Speaker 3: everybody's running the fastest time ever and you put up
- 51:21Speaker 3: a seven point five relative athletics score, like that's going
- 51:24Speaker 3: to raise a red flag to me. Of Like, the
- 51:25Speaker 3: one guy that didn't get a nine plus on his
- 51:27Speaker 3: RAZ card was Malchai Fields. So I had concerns going
- 51:31Speaker 3: in about his top end speed and his play speed
- 51:34Speaker 3: in general, and now I feel like we're in that
- 51:36Speaker 3: Keon Coleman territory of like this is just a jump
- 51:39Speaker 3: ball receiver, and you know how I feel about those
- 51:41Speaker 3: kind of guys. It's just not for me, dog Like,
- 51:43Speaker 3: it's just not my type of receiver. Maybe it's yours,
- 51:46Speaker 3: but it's just not what I would draft, especially when
- 51:50Speaker 3: there's other guys like a Chris Brazil or whoever that
- 51:52Speaker 3: has speed and size, Like I just have no reason
- 51:55Speaker 3: whatsoever to prioritize a guy like Fields.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Sure that was nine number one, all right, Oh you
- 52:00Speaker 2: want to keep going?
- 52:01Speaker 1: All right?
- 52:02Speaker 3: I had one more just because the combine was my
- 52:04Speaker 3: first one. Yeah, I had Cash's howl on here.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Yeah, for the arms, the arms. So I think that
- 52:10Speaker 2: in a lot of ways.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Sometimes what happens is is like ruben Bain's going to
- 52:14Speaker 3: get all the attention for his short arms.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Ruben Bain's going to be just fine.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Like his tape is too good, so he's going to
- 52:20Speaker 3: be a top ten, top five pick.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Anyways.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Yeah, the guy that might slide because of his arms
- 52:24Speaker 3: is Cash short of the band. Yeah, so his arms
- 52:27Speaker 3: measured in just over thirty inches thirty point thirty.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Shortest buy in edge rusher at the Combines's ninety nine right, Yeah,
- 52:33Speaker 1: so six two two fifty three thirty in a quarter
- 52:36Speaker 1: inch arms, so he's a little bit undersized and all
- 52:39Speaker 1: sorts of ways, two fifty plus is five six two
- 52:43Speaker 1: is a little bit on the shorter side.
- 52:45Speaker 3: When he just started talking about like stride length and
- 52:47Speaker 3: stuff like that, and then three thirty and a quarter
- 52:49Speaker 3: is really short. Now I went on a you know
- 52:53Speaker 3: a bleacher Report has like some really good draft profiles,
- 52:56Speaker 3: like scouting profiles.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, NFL dot com Lands their line does a job.
- 53:00Speaker 2: He does them as well.
- 53:02Speaker 3: Their comp for Cash's Howell on Bleacher Report is Harold Landry,
- 53:06Speaker 3: and Harold Landry also has a similar build, similar measuables.
- 53:10Speaker 1: To I keep seeing or Harold Landry and see only
- 53:13Speaker 1: he was on the Chargers.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Charger.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I was about to say this and I lost the name. Yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 1: the other comp I keep saying seeing for Howl.
- 53:20Speaker 3: So hy so with cashus Howell, he's on my downs
- 53:24Speaker 3: because of how he measured. But if I'm a Patriots fan,
- 53:26Speaker 3: I actually like that he's on the downs because I
- 53:29Speaker 3: actually think that there's a chance now that he follows
- 53:31Speaker 3: to thirty one and if he's there at thirty one.
- 53:34Speaker 3: I would I think that's a home run pick. I
- 53:37Speaker 3: think that's a slam dunk, like almost like run the
- 53:39Speaker 3: card up there kind of pick. Because his film is
- 53:41Speaker 3: top twenty in the class, and you're getting a guy
- 53:43Speaker 3: just because his arms are a little bit shorter later on,
- 53:47Speaker 3: and we've seen Mike Rabil work with guys like that
- 53:50Speaker 3: in terms of Harold Landry, yeah, and take a guy
- 53:52Speaker 3: has a little bit shorter arms but has great first
- 53:54Speaker 3: step explosiveness, has great bend off the edge inside outside ability.
- 53:59Speaker 3: In terms of counter there's really good instincts against the run,
- 54:02Speaker 3: like has this like full profile but just has some
- 54:05Speaker 3: weird dimensions. And Harold Andrews had a great career for
- 54:08Speaker 3: Mike Rable. So I think that Cash is howl. If
- 54:11Speaker 3: you're a Patriots fan, you're happy that he's on this list.
- 54:14Speaker 3: But as a general combine takeaway, he probably hurt his
- 54:18Speaker 3: stock a little bit with.
- 54:19Speaker 1: The and we know that that's not like the biggest
- 54:22Speaker 1: concern for them too. It was Melvin Ingram, Okay, Yeah,
- 54:26Speaker 1: I think Melvin Ingram is a little bit more like
- 54:28Speaker 1: barrel chested and physical, you know what I mean.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Like he's a little bit more power.
- 54:32Speaker 1: The build I think is very similarly the Yeah Ingram
- 54:36Speaker 1: six two two fifty had thirty one a half in charms.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Howel's got some of the best bend in this class.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Like if you want a guy that's just gonna win
- 54:43Speaker 3: with puer speed and bend off the edge and yeah,
- 54:45Speaker 3: you know, dip rip or ghost or whatever and you're
- 54:48Speaker 3: just gonna come around the corner that that's cash is howl.
- 54:51Speaker 2: He can do that. All right, We got all right?
- 54:54Speaker 1: So my first one, I'm gonna do kind of an
- 54:56Speaker 1: outside the boxy one. Yeah, Ty Simpson, but not Ty
- 55:00Speaker 1: Simpson himself. Everybody talking about Ty Simpson.
- 55:03Speaker 2: He's qbdo, don't you know.
- 55:05Speaker 1: So I had flashbacks. Tell me if this sounds familiar.
- 55:10Speaker 1: I watched Ty Simpson throw the ball through pretty well.
- 55:12Speaker 2: He was he was fine, pretty well.
- 55:15Speaker 1: The way they were talking about his throwing session, Evan,
- 55:18Speaker 1: did you hear the commentary?
- 55:19Speaker 2: It was pants off, Oh my god.
- 55:22Speaker 1: But you also have to quarterback man weep And you
- 55:26Speaker 1: know what, it brought me right back to JJ McCarthy,
- 55:31Speaker 1: Remember the J McCarthy throwing session.
- 55:33Speaker 2: He's way more accurate than jaj.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Okay, So not comparing the players. But it was that
- 55:38Speaker 1: same thing with like, why are we doing this again?
- 55:40Speaker 1: Ty Simpson is six one, two hundred and ten pounds. Yeah,
- 55:44Speaker 1: he's accurate, but he doesn't have a big arm. Yeah
- 55:46Speaker 1: he is a like and he doesn't have the athleticism
- 55:49Speaker 1: in that profile, right, the apex of that profiles Drew
- 55:53Speaker 1: Brees obviously. Yeah, but for every Drew Brees, just how
- 55:57Speaker 1: many I don't know, pick a guy under six to two.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Like I was gonna say, Bailey's happy, but yeah, you know, so, like.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Look, I think Mac is like right at six two, Ty.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Simpson might be the second best quarterback on this draft.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I'm really curious see what happens with saying with Taylor Green. Yeah,
- 56:14Speaker 1: you know that athletics is unbelievable, but like, can we
- 56:18Speaker 1: not set Ty Simpson up to fail? It's not fair
- 56:21Speaker 1: to him. Let's call it for what it is. Maybe
- 56:24Speaker 1: he I don't think he should go in the first round. Yeah,
- 56:26Speaker 1: maybe he does. Maybe the Jets have a second pick
- 56:28Speaker 1: and say, all right, whatever, well, you know we have
- 56:30Speaker 1: this sexual pick. We'll take the shot. Let's just not
- 56:33Speaker 1: make Ty Simpson into something he's not. He's not fair
- 56:35Speaker 1: to him.
- 56:35Speaker 3: He's fine and I understand, like this might be me
- 56:39Speaker 3: being stereotyped, but like what I watched, I didn't watch
- 56:43Speaker 3: him specifically.
- 56:44Speaker 2: I was watching Jeremy Bernard.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yesterday another up, and I.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Thought that Ty Simpson threw the ball out like Mac
- 56:51Speaker 3: Jones at Alabama where he has these like pillowyed you know,
- 56:55Speaker 3: when he can put some air under it so he
- 56:57Speaker 3: doesn't really have to drive the ball. He throws his
- 57:00Speaker 3: really good accuracy, like he's hitting guys in stride, throwing
- 57:03Speaker 3: the deep ball pretty well. There was like three or
- 57:06Speaker 3: four times where Jeremy Bernard was opening in the far
- 57:09Speaker 3: hash flat, like he's not there quarterbacks throwing from the
- 57:12Speaker 3: far hash. Bernard's in the flat and he just can't
- 57:15Speaker 3: get it there, Like he just short arms it and
- 57:18Speaker 3: just bounce it throws a ground ball to Bernard. Those
- 57:22Speaker 3: are the times where you're like, okay, like this is
- 57:24Speaker 3: where these limitations are. But if you're I'm telling you, like,
- 57:28Speaker 3: if you're one of these coaches in the Shanahan tree
- 57:32Speaker 3: that is likes that kind of guy, you know, we're
- 57:35Speaker 3: talking about again a Brock party, you know that that
- 57:39Speaker 3: Kirk Cousins. Like all you're gonna do is We're just
- 57:42Speaker 3: gonna put you in a system. It's gonna operate on
- 57:45Speaker 3: its own. It's gonna have a lot of play action,
- 57:47Speaker 3: a lot of window dressing. And you know, Jimmy Garoppolo, right, like,
- 57:50Speaker 3: you're just gonna make these throws.
- 57:52Speaker 2: And I think Ty Simpson could do.
- 57:53Speaker 1: I think he can. I see the picture. It's again,
- 57:55Speaker 1: Mike Down is not Ty Simpson.
- 57:57Speaker 2: It's just it's a commentary about time.
- 58:00Speaker 1: Let's we we just did this.
- 58:02Speaker 2: He just did this with J. J. McCarthy. He's a
- 58:04Speaker 2: classic system quarter. It's not fair to him. Let's not
- 58:06Speaker 2: make him into something.
- 58:07Speaker 1: And by the way, did you see what it is
- 58:08Speaker 1: a little bit of a higher floor than JAJ Really
- 58:11Speaker 1: I do. Did you see one of the teams that
- 58:13Speaker 1: they they said might be Ty Simpson the Vikings? Yeah,
- 58:17Speaker 1: I mean that makes total sense. It makes total sense.
- 58:19Speaker 1: But it's also very funny to me. But like so
- 58:20Speaker 1: like KOs.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Would turn Time Simpson into a decent NFL starter.
- 58:25Speaker 1: But like the efficiency the NFL career, the efficiency would
- 58:28Speaker 1: be driven up by all everything else, but like he
- 58:30Speaker 1: would like be functional. And again, I want to be clear,
- 58:32Speaker 1: because this happened last time. I didn't hate I didn't
- 58:34Speaker 1: have anything against J. Mcarthy. Didn't hate J. McCarthy. I
- 58:37Speaker 1: hated the way he was talked about. It's going to
- 58:40Speaker 1: happen again and it's gonna be annoying.
- 58:42Speaker 2: Okay, who's next.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Next is Miles Kitchelman, the tight end from Tennessee. Yeah,
- 58:48Speaker 1: ran like a four nine forty. It just yelled what
- 58:51Speaker 1: the afterwards like he knew it was it was. It's
- 58:55Speaker 1: less a down, it's more of.
- 58:57Speaker 2: A it was. It was a moment.
- 58:58Speaker 1: It's a moment. It's a for him having a down.
- 59:01Speaker 1: So I just I don't again, it's tough to do
- 59:03Speaker 1: downs for the combine. Yeah, you know he go watch,
- 59:07Speaker 1: go watch his forty went kind of it's unfortunate for
- 59:09Speaker 1: him in that port viral he did not have a great,
- 59:12Speaker 1: great combine.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:15Speaker 1: And then my third one, my third one was going
- 59:17Speaker 1: to be hel with the short arms, so that might
- 59:19Speaker 1: that might cover it for me or you know, I'll
- 59:21Speaker 1: kind of similar, uh, because is a tremendously tremendously down.
- 59:26Speaker 1: The football player would have made a ton of money
- 59:28Speaker 1: as a tackle. He's probably just too undersized. And I
- 59:31Speaker 1: know you didn't say about Campbell Letcher, it's like a
- 59:34Speaker 1: full inch difference.
- 59:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so I wonder I think his best position in
- 59:40Speaker 3: the NFL might be center. I could see it, and
- 59:42Speaker 3: that might actually maximize like the value in terms of
- 59:46Speaker 3: you know, he's making the calls and he's doing all
- 59:48Speaker 3: this other stuff.
- 59:49Speaker 2: This smart players is.
- 59:50Speaker 1: The center and go in the first round.
- 59:51Speaker 8: In this.
- 59:53Speaker 1: It's so tough because he's six on the consensus board.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Un Yeah, he's super talented, and there's.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Some people say no, he's still going to go top ten,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: some people saying he won't go in the first round. Yeah,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: so he he's a wild The whole tackle offensive line
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: board was hard enough to project as it is because
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: let me ask you this. So, okay, let's say he
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: is an interior player, right, is he a better interior
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: player than Ione? Probably better pass blocker, But like, who
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: would you take first? So my point is.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: If he probably take Fano?
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Okay, I think that his ceiling as a guard is
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: going to be extremely high because of his pass blocking
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: ability inside, and I think that he's got enough power
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: to probably survive in terms of run game stuff.
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: Ye, Like.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: He's a Vegas a great player. He's he's just a
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: great finisher. Like he's just a great one blocker. I
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: think the pass blocking is average.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: The point being is, if you put I think it's
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Fano I've been saying for Fano. If you put Fano
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: in the interior conversation instead of the tackle conversation, he's
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: he's he's number one, Okay, So all right, so then
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: that maybe he doesn't knock him down quite as much. Yeah,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: then the arm measurements from how basically.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: So this worked out perfectly.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: I want to do the first hour on the draft

- 1:04:12Speaker 3: let's get to the calls. I know you guys have
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: been waiting. Patty, you are in Agawam.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: What's up? Patty?
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: Hey? What's going on?
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Joe?
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: So I wanted to always talk about a couple of things.
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: The first thing I've I've watched Gardi and he had
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: on his uh oh a Will Parkinson who we used
- 1:04:35Speaker 7: to do his podcast with Funkinson was saying something about
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: cutting Hunter Henry and saving money. And I was like,
- 1:04:42Speaker 7: where the hell is this guy getting this from? And
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: why would it ever make sense to cut the only
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: like real viable tight end that you have on your
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: team this year? But just go just looking forward towards
- 1:04:54Speaker 7: the draft, regardless of what happens in free agency. Last year,
- 1:04:58Speaker 7: you remember one day we ask ask you know, Elliott
- 1:05:02Speaker 7: and Mike Rabel and Cowden. They were asked about what
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: their kind of their plan was and they said, you know,
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: we have this paraphrase and we have a young quarterback.
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: We want to you know, protect them and give them
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: some good options, you know. And what did they do
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: their first four picks. They took two offensive linemen, a
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: running back and a wide receiver. You heard Elliott and
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: Mike both stay that edge is a position a need. Now,
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: this isn't the Bill Park, I'm sorry, the Bill Belichick
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: regime where Bill might talk out of both sides of
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: his mouth or just not even say a damn thing
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: at all. Right, I think generally, regardless of what they
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: do in free agency, like even if I think if
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: they even double up on like maybe like a splash
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: guy and then like a veteran guy on the edge,
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: I think, regardless they're taking an edge with the first pick,
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: even if they I don't see them moving up. But
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: if they stay at thirty one, or if they're they
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: trade down like early in the day two. And I
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: just wanted to get your guys' thoughts on that, and Alex, well,
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: it's for both of you. I know, Alex, you watch
- 1:06:01Speaker 7: a lot of a lot of these guys. How come
- 1:06:03Speaker 7: nobody's talking about Kaden Curry. And the only reason why
- 1:06:07Speaker 7: I'm asking is, look at the raw numbers, they look good.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: I haven't looked at any of the advanced stuff beyond CFF,
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: but I'm guessing like he had a ninety plus PFF grade.
- 1:06:18Speaker 7: So I'm guessing that the NERD numbers, but the advanced
- 1:06:21Speaker 7: metric numbers look good on them too. And those are
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: my two questions. I'll take them off there, and you
- 1:06:27Speaker 7: guys are the best.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Thanks Pat, thanks for the call.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt that Rabel and Elliott Wolf were
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Lockstep and edg Rusher being Yeah, probably they're top need.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: The only thing I wonder, because of how deep this
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: class is, if they get it, Like if they don't
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: get a guy in freeency, that's gonna be the first
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: round pick. Yeah, right, But if they can sign one
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: of those guys the top of the market they've been
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: linked to, I think everybody at this point Hendrickson O right,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Mafe Right. You know, do they look at it and say,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: all right, like that can be our second round pick,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: our third round pick?
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: I think that, you know, this is more of a
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: we're talking about this yesterday. Check out these things where
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: you know, when they needed edge rushers, he double dip
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: in the draft and he'd take josh U j And
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: and Ferny Jennings right or when they needed tight ends
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: it didn't work out, but he would take Austin Ossi
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: and Keene right like he would double dip at these positions.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: I could see the Patriots doing that at edge. I
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: could also see them doing it at tight end, where
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: they draft more of like a bigger blocking style tight
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: end and a receiving tight end and they try to,
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: you know, see which one kind of wins out. I'm
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: with I don't see any real path to Hunter Henry
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: being cut not on the team in twenty six.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: It's it's just this time of year you're here in
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: questions about.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: I would also just like mention with Hunter Henry really quickly.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: I would say, besides maybe Will Campbell, who was a
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: little bit closer in age, Hunter Henry might be Drake
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: May's best friend on the entire team. So I would
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: be really really surprised if they moved on from Hunter
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: Henry this offseason. I think that a they don't really
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: have anything behind him, so that would make no sense
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: from a rock construction standpoint. But also you have to
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: be careful, you know with your superstar quarterback right and
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: trading away all his friends as well, Hunter Henry and him.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: You know, Hunter Henry has been kind of like a
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: big brother mentor to Drake May. They're they're really tight.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: So I'd be pretty surprised if if Hunter Henry's on
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: the move. Do you have anything about the King Curry?
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, push down for a couple of reasons.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: It's a really good edge class, so you know, everybody's
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: kind of knocked down the board a little bit. Only
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: one real year of production, didn't really play before this year.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: When you look at the defense he was playing with,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: like there's you know, yeah, he put up big numbers.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Did he earn the big numbers? Or was he the
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: guy nobody was paying attention to because you have to
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: worry about r VL Reese and Sunny Styles and Caleb
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: downs and like all these different Was he kind of
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: the one that got lost in the wash? So, you know,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: not a bad player, but I don't didn't he's expected
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: to go like middle of day three. I think that's
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: probably about right. I don't think he's being slept on.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: I don't think he's being underrated. I don't think he's overrated.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: I think he's about where he should be.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Okay, let's take one more call here.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: Then I want to get to our or two more calls,
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: and I want to get to our exercise.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: Here. Zach is in New Hampshire. What's up, Zach?
- 1:09:15Speaker 10: Hey, guys, thanks taking my call. Just wanted to share
- 1:09:17Speaker 10: a couple of things. First, one of my favorite draft
- 1:09:20Speaker 10: traditions is watching Evan's reaction to the cold strange pick.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: It forever second. And I was right about it too,
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: so it just kind of it makes me feel good too.
- 1:09:34Speaker 10: Yeah, that's a good point. I just I was just
- 1:09:36Speaker 10: wondering what you guys saw in in Denzel Boston.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: Evan.
- 1:09:40Speaker 10: I know you said you like the speedier, better separators,
- 1:09:43Speaker 10: and even though Drake may like's thrown to the to
- 1:09:45Speaker 10: the big guys like Matt Collins. I was just wondering,
- 1:09:48Speaker 10: you know, if he's kind of a key on Coleman
- 1:09:50Speaker 10: two point zero, or if you'd want somebody else over
- 1:09:53Speaker 10: him in the draft or just trade stuff like that. Thanks, guys,
- 1:09:56Speaker 10: I appreciate it.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Thanks Zach.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: I actually I've surprisingly was okay with Denzel Boston, like
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: he if they drafted Denzel Boston, I could see the vision.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I think he's a little bit different than Keon Coleman
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: because I do think that he separates enough. You know,
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: especially when you're talking about guys that play on the outside,
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: you want to see guys that separate early in the route,
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: even though they might end up in a contested situation,
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: if they can win the leverage battle at the line
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: of scrimmage and then get guys like kind of on
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: their hip in the right direction that way there, like
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: you present like a clear target to the quarterback of like, okay,
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: I'm leading him on this one, I'm back shouldering him,
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: I'm throwing him inside, like whatever the case may be.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: And I thought Denzel Boston did enough in terms of that,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Like he's not a pure separator. He's not like Casey
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: conceptsi own er Omar Cooper is like breaking away from people.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: But he's got that sort of big body X separation ability,
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: and then he's just fantastic at the catch point, like
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: super strong hands you know, ten of thirteen in contested situations.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: You know, just really really good in that regard. But
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: everybody hears that it is like, oh, it's a contested catch.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Guy. He only had thirteen contested targets. That's not very many.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: Most of the time the guy's near the top of
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: CFB and contested targets are thirty plus contested targets. So
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: he was really good on his contested targets. But he
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: actually separated a decent amount to not have a ton
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: of those, right, So I thought that he impressed me,
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: And another thing just quickly with him, like he.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: He kind of has that modern X where like he
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: can line up condensed and he can line up in
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: the slot a little bit and block and like hold
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: his own in there, sort of like what Matt Collins
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: did for the Patriots last year. And that's been more
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: and more popular now, especially with all the condensed or
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: tight formations that all these offenses are using. That's like
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: the new thing, right, Like if you line up in
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: tight to the formation and a condensed bunch and block somebody,
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: And I think Denzel Boston can do those types of things.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, did you say something else or did I does that?
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: The thing about thee.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was you know a classic Randy is
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: in Providence. Is that brandy he to go on guys.
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: Hey, So just a couple of things on guys that
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: kind of from the combine moved or guys that you mentioned.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Number one, you guys talked about Akeenator. We gotta stop
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: talking about him as a first round pick. That kid
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: is twenty five years old. He's gonna be thirty years
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: old at the end of his rookie contract. I don't
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: think he's someone that you can draft in the first
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: round at that age, especially he just started playing football
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: like five minutes ago. He's a developmental raw prospect that's old.
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: It's a bad combination for a first round pick. But
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: Blake Miller, on the other hand, I think they draft him.
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: I think he could start right away at right tackle,
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: and Moses kind of played like a swing tackle backup mentor.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: He seemed to take a lot of veteran days last year.
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys think he would embrace
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: that kind of role. And then when you guys are
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: talking about downs from the combine, our Mason Thomas has
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: got to be on that list for me. He came
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: in light, short armed, small hands, which small hands to
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: me is kind of a singing the red flag anyway,
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: but he was really average get off too. Like pre
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: this he was kind of build as like, well, he'll
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: be sure, but he's got great get off, and then
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: he didn't. It was subpart of anything. And then Patty
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: had mentioned kayten Curry the shortest arms at the combine
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: of Vannie Dgris. That's that's another down on him. I
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: wonder what you guys think about Jacob Rodriguez. Do you
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: think he could be in play for us? Maybe not
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: in the first round, but in the second round if
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: he's still on the clock. I think he'd be an upgrade.
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: And then one last thing is Malaka Fields. I've been
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: really high on him, but I feel like there's too
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: many red flags. He's got very small hands less than
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: nine inches, and the bad forty and ten yards split
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: like Steed was never his thing, but I was hoping
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: for a higher base line. I like Lane more for
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: this uh, this team, the kid out of USC What
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: do you guys think?
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, a good call, lady, Yeah, I didn't realize that
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: old yeah, yeah, older prospect, that that is an older
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: raw prospect is a little bit concerning. I would agree
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: with Dad, because then you're thinking, what twenty six, twenty
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: seven years old before he really hits his stride. It's
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: a it's a valid point.
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: Who was the other guy that he mentioned that I No.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: I don't or Mason Thomas.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I I consider that he only he only ran
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: the forty, so it wasn't a lot of his athletic testing.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: I he was on my list of guys that.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: I was like not down on, but also was like
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: kind of that middle of like I was kind of
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: expecting to see a little bit more. You know, he's
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: somebody that is really highly touted for his first step explosiveness,
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: his speed off the edge, his hustle, his motor to
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: chase the ball down. Like there's one play that he
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: had against Auburn where he runs like forty yards down
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: the field to tackle a guy. Like those are the
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: types of things that you see that you hear and
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: see about him. And he was just okay, you know,
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: like he moved fine, so I could hear what he's.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Saying on that.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: I'm not out out, but thirty one is probably a
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: little bit rich, Like he's probably a second round pick. Yeah,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: all right, let's do this little exercise and we'll wrap
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: it up. With the people that just are calling in.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: I wanted to kind of do this as like an
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: inner out thing, but then I realized after the first couple,
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: it's kind of more of like, here's a cluster of edgereshers,
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: which one would you take?
- 1:15:23Speaker 8: You know?
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: So let's just start with the obvious one. And I
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: want to ask a favor somebody in the YouTube comments.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: When the show is posted, people are going to want
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: to know when we talked about Alec Pierce, right.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: So this is when we're going to talk about Alec Pierce.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: I'll tell you where we're at an hour.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: So just put like a timestamp. Yeah, so put a
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: little timestamp in the YouTube chat. We'd really appreciate that.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: Alec Pierce right now, he just went on what was it?
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Which ESPN property? Did he just call it?
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: No?
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: K Adams?
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: He went on Katams, not ESPN. He went on k
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Adams and and said that he's going to test the market.
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: That is, owes it to himself, owes it to earn
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: the right to you know perfectly well said right at
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: this point, you're not going to tag me? Why wouldn't
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: I just at least on Monday, take some calls and
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: see what what kind of market is out there, because
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: he's going to have a hell of a market. So
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: right now, this is based off of projections from over
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: the cap. Uh, they're looking at a twenty four million
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: dollars per year AAV over four years. I'm going to
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: round up and say twenty five million. So one hundred
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: million dollar contract for Alan Pierce on Alec Pierce, are
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: you iner you out?
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Yeah? I think I'm in a right. I think I'll
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: still believe it when I see it, even though he
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: said that he's always going to say that the middle
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: of negotiating contract. I don't think he's the level of
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: player some people are making out to be, but I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: think his fit with Drake may makes it worth it.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: You know, probably something I don't know. They go about
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: like twenty seven million yere, which is not that much
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: money for wide receiver at this point, but like, I
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: just think he's such a good fit with what Drake
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: mat does. You put him over the top, digs underneath
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: and it's you know, it's not about collecting talent, it's
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: about building a team. Alec Pierce fits in and builds
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: a team. Pulled the reverse card on you and ask
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: you something yes, let's say the Colts resign Alec Peers. Yes,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: maybe even before Maybe you just kind of get the
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: idea through back channels that they're going to get a
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: deal done before March ninth. Alec Pearce and Michael pittman
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: are very redundant, and Michael Pittman's not making insignificant money.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: I think it's eighteen million. Do you call the Colts
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: with a low ball offer for Michael Pittman basically saying,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: all right, we know you're going to resign Alec Pierce,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: but you're trying to make the money work to do it.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: We'll take Michael Pittman off your hands for pennies on
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: the dollar, so you free up the money to resign
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Alec Peers. So it's not me saying I'd rather have
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Pittman than Pierce, to be saying, if you know, Peerce
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: isn't attainable, like as a logical pivot.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: I've always liked Pittman. Yeah, right, Crojan, I'd always liked
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: that Pitton. He's more of an intermediate guy than he
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: is a deep thread though, like his specialty. Pittman's is
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: like I'm gonna run like the deep dig better than
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: anybody right like that. That's I think really his calling card.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Pittman or Piers excuse me, is a true take the
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: top off the defense kind of guy. I'm with you
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: in terms of would I do that, Would I like
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: kick the tires on Pittman?
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: If this is how it goes and they end up
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: having to make Pittman expendable.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Sure yeah I would.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: I this again, I think Pittman is more of like
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: a high volume like didn't have like one hundred catches
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: like last year or two years ago quarterback. Yeah, Like
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: so he's more of like that kind of guy. You know,
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: he's a little bit more of a chain mover versus
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: a deep threat like Alec Pierce. You mentioned what I
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: think is just the nail on the head with al Pierce.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: It's not that Alc Pierce is in the upper eenchalt
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: of NFL receivers where he's probably gonna be contract wise
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: if he hits the open market, he's going to be
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: in a tier receivers that I don't think from a
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: pay structure standpoint, he's quite at like probably looking at
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: something like around where t Higgins got.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: You know, if he gets twenty seven, let's see he
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: gets twenty seven a year, right, Yeah, so I have that.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: This is just over the cap I sorted by AVA one, two, three, four, five,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: six seven. There's seven wide receivers getting thirty million a
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: year plus right now.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: But keep in mind like JSN is not paid yet.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: JSS not paid yet. Yeah, and then some guys have
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: paid this offseason.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he's Pooka paid yet new right, so like there's
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: some guys that just aren't.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Quite So here's here's in theory, who's getting around. We're
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna go from twenty nine to twenty five
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: because that's probably Pierce's range. Yes, Terry McLaurin, T. Higgins,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Jalen Waddle, DJ Moore, George Pickens. That's gonna change, uh,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Jamison Williams that my uh, DeVonta Smith, Nico Collins, Nico
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Collins at twenty four. Yeah, so and then Michael Pittman
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: is next.
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: So the contract, you know you mentioned him in that group. Yeah,
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: to me, the contract, just the guys above.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: The guys in the thirty plus range are Ayuk mom
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: and Raw, AJ Brown, Garrett Wilson, DK Metcalf, Seeding Lamb,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson and then Chase is obviously getting forty per.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Okay, So if I'm Al Pierce's agent playing the player's
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: side for a second, T Higgins is four years, one
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: hundred and fifteen million at twenty eight point seventy five
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: is what I'm shooting for. I think that that's the
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: contract that I'm shooting for.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: See forty million guaranteed.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: Is he as good as T Higgins? No, he's not
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: as good as T Higgins deals last year. This deal
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: was last year, and it wasn't on the open market.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: It was a it was a resigned extension with a
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: rookie extension with it.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Was a stronger wide receiver market to that offseason.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: So that's what I would say, Alec Peerce is probably
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: ceiling is on the open market is twenty eight point
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: seventy five.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: It's a little rich for the type of player. If
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: you want to.
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: Make the case that that's what happens in free agency,
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: you overpay a little bit. I can understand where you're
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: coming from. To an extent. The thing that you mentioned, though,
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: that I think is what really makes the difference here.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: It's not just is he as good as aman Ross
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: Saint Brown? Is he as good as Jalen Waddle, it's
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: what is the vision for him in this offense?
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: And when you put a.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Guy that led the league and yards per catch, that
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: had twelve plays of twenty plus yards last year with
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: bad quarterback player Daniel Jones, and you put him with
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: maybe the best deep ball thrower in the NFL and
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Drake May, you are marrying perfectly quarterback and skill set
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: of receiver. Like, you can't really get it much better
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: than that. So this is a guy that had a
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: thousand yards playing with Daniel Jones and the corpse of
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: Philip Rivers. Now imagine him playing with the MVP runner
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: up who just so happens to throw the best deep
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: ball in the league.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: But you're just talking about a guy that I think
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: could really marry son to.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Make each other better. They're going to make each other better.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: You have digs underneath and in the middle of the
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: field you have Alec Pierce over the top. It's not
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: just looking at the contract in the vacuum of is
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: he worked this relative to the rest to the league.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: It's first of all, like it's an open market, so
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: like you have to be the highest bidder and you
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: have to win that negotiation. Second of all, it's what's
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: the best stylistic fit with Drake May. And this is
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: why in the draft when we start talking about draft receivers,
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: this is why I keep talking about up Chris Brazl
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: and all these other guys, because I want a six
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: foot four four four speed kind of receiver to give
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: to Drake May. And this isn't that just Daalak Pierce,
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: but just approven known commodity in the league.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Already, he's only what twenty five years old on top
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: of this as well six so like he's young, he's
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: a sending.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: He's hitting the prime of his career.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Turns twenty six in May. It just to me, this
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: is a no brainer. It's a It's a no brainer.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: And I don't really see a whole lot of flaws
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: in his profile in terms of the type of receiver
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: that he is. If you want to ask, like he
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: is he in the you know, obviously he's not in
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: the Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson JSA.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: So let me give you another and I've heard this
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: one Matt Dollf who I work with A ninety eight
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: five through this out, he actually had two contract comps.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: One was Devonte Smith. I think the better one is
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Jamison Williams. Yeah, also twenty five years old. Also more
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: of a deep threat guy than a volume guy.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: He's a little bit more physical than Jamison Williams is.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I'm not a contract comps, Okay, So in terms of
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: like how you're gonna put the player profile of how
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: you're gonna pay him three years eighty three million dollars
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: with sixty six guaranteed, So it's like twenty six to
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: six a year.
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: Right, So I would think his agent would want that
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: fourth year, right either way.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: So that's right. But I'll say this too about the
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: thing about the contract. And I know nobody wants to
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: hear this because they want to nitpick and it sounds
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: like I'm making excuses for teams or whatever. No, it's
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: just reality of it. Can you think of one instant
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: seven Yeah, outside of age, because people are gonna come
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: right at me with digs outside of age. One instance
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: where somebody signed a contract in free agency played well,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: but people were still like, yeah, I don't know, I
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: still think they paid him too much. No, Like the
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: whole thing about well, what's the value of the contract
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to me? You have to be able to fit all
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: the math in the salary cap obviously, but like gonna
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: go to cap can be maneuvered.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Richard Millton objectively.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Objectively, Yeah, they overpaid for Milton Williams last year, they
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: paid They Milton Williams contract at the time it was
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: signed was for more money than he probably should have
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: been worth. If you break it down, is anybody gonna
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: is anybody brought that up in the last year.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: No, and they shouldn't.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: They shouldn't because he's playing his ass off.
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: It reminds me a little bit of the Milton Williams
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: situation too, where like Withindy you mentioned Pittman. Obviously, Jonathan
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Taylor is the engine. Jonathan Josh Downs is there. Yeah,
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: Tyler Warren was there now last year. So there's a
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: lot of MOUs defeat in that offense, Like he's gonna
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: come here and I've heard the volume held against him,
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: the fact that he was only has only forty seven catches, which,
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: by the way, if you have a thousand yards on
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: forty seven catches, imagine if instead of eighty eight targets,
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: he has like one hundred and twenty targets. Next, y ye, right,
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: Like now that production is just going to go up
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: and up and up. That's the difference between him being
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: in New England and him potentially being in Indianapolis. Indianapolis
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: has been built around Jonathan Taylor in the run game,
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: Like they're a run first offense. They don't have a
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: ton of volume to spread around to their receivers. So
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: out here, Yeah, I think we're both on the same page.
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: I don't think it would be a gross overpay, and
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: I think that the fit with Drake May would just
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: be outstanding, And I really couldn't think of another. I
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: don't think that this type of receiver. This is my
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: last point, then you can finish up. I don't think
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: that this type of receiver hits unrestricted free agency too
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: often ascending.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: Still, I still think we're gonna get rug pulled like
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Ronnie Stanley last year.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: Well if maybe he's doing that as a negotiation ploint,
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: but he's right, like why would he not test the
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: market at this point he's like four or five days
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: away from it, Like, why would you decide to sign now?
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: The the fit, the stylistic fit of what they need.
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: It was also, you know, very very good last year
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: against press coverage eighty first percentile sex rate, that's rate
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: against press coverage. So you have all these different things
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: that add up to this is a really good fit
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: in your offense and a really good fit with your quarterback.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: So you maybe have to pay him. You know, maybe
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: he's a twenty four million dollar receiver and you end
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: up paying him twenty eight.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: Yeah. And again to go back to the what I
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: was saying before about the money, the way the cap
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: goes up every year, like none of these, the contract
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: only ages poorly if the player doesn't play well.
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, And I don't anticipate that.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: And if you so like if you say, if you
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: have a football reason, if you want to say Alec
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Pierce is not gonna play well in New England for this,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: that or the other thing. You know, like you said,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: he has all his talent around him in Indy when
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: he's the guy, maybe he struggles more. We can absolutely
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: have that conversation. Yeah, if you're gonna say, yeah, I mean,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I think he'll play well, but I don't think the
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: contract relates. With no contract outside of guys getting old,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: which Pierce is going his age twenty six season, no
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: contract has ever aged poorly with the player playing well.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I just I really can't think of an instance where
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: that's happened. Yeah, especially in the NFL with how much
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: the cap goes up year to year. So I'm you know,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: if you think he's worth twenty four and I him
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: twenty eight to get it done, fine, I wouldn't give
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: him forty because now you're just throwing a whole thing
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: at a whack. Right, you still got to have you
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: don't want to look to be a pushover to agents, Right,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: you got to negotiate with other players, But like I
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: don't know, would they are. They probably gonna have to
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: pay more than I think he's worth to get him here. Yeah,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: but I don't really have a problem with that. Yeah,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: because it just if you play again, just imagine like
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: nobody nobody cares that Milton Williams contract was worth more
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: than he probably was worth on the open market. May
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: he was going to go to the Panthers and they
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: up the offer is worth more than they thought he
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: was worth.
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and it worked out when you just again, like
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: from a fit perspective, it's nothing. It's no disrespect to
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Kishan Boody and Matt Collins, who both are really good
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: for the Patriots.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: Last year. But you saw the.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: Volume that that kind of role is going to get
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: in this offense because of the type of player May
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: is and the type of quarterback Drake May is. Just imagine,
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: let's say Kaishon Boody is like a B B minus,
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: you know, outside deep threat. Now you're gonna put like
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: a B plus a minus guy maybe even higher than
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: that in that exact same role, like all those targets
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: in all the volume that went to Mac Collins and
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: Kishon Boody is now going to go to a better player.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: And it is the ceiling of the offense just goes
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: up a lot. And teams are already playing a lot
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: of too high safety against the Patriots by the end
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: of the season because the Drake May's ability to throw
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: the deep ball, now they really are going to have
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: to do that, and that just opens up the entire
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: middle of the field for guys like Henry and Diggs
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: and stuff like that.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: I love the fit. I love the fit.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: I don't think that he's the best receiver in the
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: league or anything like that, but I just think stylistically
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: it's a slam dunk fit for the Patriots. So I
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: think we're both all in on Alec Pierce that hopefully
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: he hits market because I think that they're going to
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: be one of the teams that makes a pretty good
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: aggressive pitch to him. And frankly, you know, just to
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: wrap it up, they have a pretty darn good pitch,
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: like if they come with the money, which is obviously
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: the big question for any team.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Every other box to check.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: You can play with with Drake may who is gonna
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: get you the ball the way that you need to
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: get the ball, and you're gonna play for Mike Rabel,
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: the rating coach of the like, it doesn't get much
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: better than that, right, Like, I mean, that's that's a
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: great landing spot for Alt Pierce, probably better than the
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: setup he has in Indianapolis at this point with who
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: knows what's gonna happen with Daniel Jones and his achilles
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: and all that. Next player here on my list, Isaiah
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: likely this is the other guy that I feel like
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: is kind of on his own here and how that
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: Kyle Pitts gott franchise tag is kind of like the
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: top top guy at that position looking at you know,
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: nine to ten million dollars a year according to over
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: the Cap. Maybe he gets a little bit more than
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: that because it's the open market and things get crazy.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: But on it, like you're projecting with Isaiah likely like
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: his production in Baltimore obviously is behind Mark Andrews in
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: the bar. That's a big part of it. But you
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: are basically saying, you know, we see the traits and
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: with the higher volume, this guy's gonna, you know, explode,
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: like he's gonna it's gonna blossom in our offense. But
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: you're not paying him based off of like proven concept,
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: really right, So that's why the number is.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: A little bit lower in or out on Isaiah like it.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: I wouldn't be mad if they signed him, Like I
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: don't think he'd be a bad signing, but I'd just
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: rather they signed the tight end that can block, like
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: we talked about earlier, like a guy that can play
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: more traditionally. Let me ask this, it's probably gonna get
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: about the same money likely or in Joku. You think
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: they're gonna get the same money about I think likely
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: to get paid more, maybe a little bit more. I
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: think gonna be the same fallpark.
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: If I had to pick between those two, I'd probably
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: go in Joku.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: I think it's a little bit of a blocker, a
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: little bit more uh, bigger size, like better, you know,
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: just thicker, you know.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: That kind of stuff. I'm not big on Isaiah Likely.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I'm not either. I mean again, like he's a good player,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: he's just not collecting talent. It's building a team.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: It's that thing.
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't really know what he does that
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: is going to warrant paying him ten plus million dollars
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: a year. Based on what we've seen. He's explosive, he's
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: a good athlete. I can see all those types of things.
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: The blocking is a big concern for me. Like I
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: look at Isaiah Likely as a receiver, Masquerrating as a
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: tight end, like he's a wide, he's a slot receiver,
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: and I'm just I'm kind of out on that right now.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: I just see the way the league is going. I
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: see the way that these offenses are being built, the
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: offenses around the league that are using all these multiple
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: tight ends, like the rams and things like that. They're
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: not building that around past catching tight ends. They're building
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: that around well rounded tight ends. You know, Like I
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: think that that's really where we're at as a schematically
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: as a league. I just don't really know if Isaiah
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: likely changes the equation at all for them. You know,
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: does he stretch the team? Is he a little bit
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: more explosive than Hunter Henry? Yes, but he doesn't have
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: anywhere new or the consistency or the you know, the
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: resume that Hunter Henry has. So I'm just at a
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: loss as to what he How do you put him
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: in Hunter Henry together? Like, how do they compliment each other?
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: All the above? Like, I'd rather just go in the
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: draft and.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: Draft somebody in the same a similar profile, of which
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: there's like ten of those in a draft like this.
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I I go back to like, we're past the point.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: If this was two years ago, I'd be pounding the table. Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: because he's talented and they just need to add talent.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: We're kind of we've kind of moved beyond the point
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: of just get talented players in the building because they
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: have some, and now it's about more finding eyes that
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: fit the pieces to the puzzle. He's a good player,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: So again, I'm not against bringing good players in, but
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I think that there's players who are comparable that fit
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: the puzzle, that fit the puzzle a little bit better.
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I think that you know, likely is definitely younger,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: maybe a little bit more explosive, but I'd probably rather
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: kad At and at that price, you know, at that
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: price point, because I don't think create Aughton is going
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: to break the bank, and I think a little bit
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: better of a blocker than Likely is. So yeah, I'm
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: kind of I'm kind of out on Isaiah Likely. I know,
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: he's a sexy name, like, he's a fun name and
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: if they signed and people would probably think it's a
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: little splashy, but not for me.
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: Let's go to the edge rushers.
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: So these ones I kind of grouped together, but I
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: feel like the in or out is kind of picking
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: which one out of these tiers.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: So Trey Hendrickson, stop, that's its own tier. You think
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: he's in his own tier. He's in his own category.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Maybe not his own tier in terms of talent, But
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: everybody else are going to name is under the age
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: of thirty. I'm guessing in this group.
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: So let me give you the four names and then
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: I want to talk about Trey Hendrickson more because I
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: we we we workshopped this take last night, and I
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: feel is his own thing to me, But continue Hendrickson, Yeah,
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: oh way, yeah, Jalen Phillips, boy Maffey. So Hendrickson right
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: now projected about twenty twenty one million a year, YEP,
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: always around nineteen. Jalen Phillips is around fifteen.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: The reporting out of the comment was that he might
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: get twenty.
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: Boy Mafe is around sixteen.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: Yeah, so they're all kind of in a similar five
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: million dollar rand.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: But here's the big difference, ag is why I cut
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: you off? Ye, Trey Hendrickson's gonna get a one maybe
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: two year deal, right, the rest of those guys getting
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: four year deals and so, and Hendrickson's probably gonna cost
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: more in the one year and so he's a breach.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: He's essentially what Diggs was at the wide receiver position
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: at edge. We're gonna be come back next year. We
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: might still be doing it in the draft, right. They
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: gotta get an edge. They gotta get an edge. You know,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: they need a double dip. So that's different. But like
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: you have a guy, if it's Oway or Phillips or Mafe,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: like that's somebody you're kind of putting in and starting
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: to build this thing around. You're gonna build it around
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: Hendrickson temporarily. But he's not a long term answer. Those
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: other guys that consider more long term answer. So Hendrickson
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: to me's in a different category.
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: Okay, so let's separate them because you gave the take
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: that just then a little bit. I think Hendrickson's going
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: to be a guy that they're going to go after.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: The reason why I think it's Hendrickson is one other
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: reporting out of the combine. Put Hendrickson really Henderson and
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: Jalen Phillips for the two guys that were coming out
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: of the combine link to the Patriots. Yeah, I look
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: at Hendrickson exactly like you just said to me. This
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: is Stefon Diggs two point zero. This is a guy
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: that has a great resume, four time Pro bowler, two
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: years removed or one year removed really from the seventeen
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: and a half SAX season in Cincinnati. He's thirty one,
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: he only played seven games last year. He's coming off
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: some weird like hip hip thing muscle course.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: I think it was one of those things where like
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: he had a bunch of little injuries too, and I
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: wonder if they just shut him down because they were out.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: So this is a perfect Bilo kind of candidate for them,
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: where if it works out like it did with Diggs
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: last year. You probably have a double digit sack guy
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: for his age thirty one season.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: You're probably only contractually.
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: Tied to him for a year, maybe two in terms
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: of guaranteed money. This is exactly. This is Stefan Diggs
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: at the edge rusher position. Now it's not a torn
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: acl so maybe it's a little bit less injury. But
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: those weird hip things like those always text aunt. Those
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: things freaked me out as well. Trey Hendrickson, to me,
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: is is exactly the type of thing they did with
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: Diggs last year, and that's why I think he's going
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: to be their guy.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: I don't mind it.
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: I think it's it could work, especially if you draft
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: an edge rusher. Maybe it's not the first round now,
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: a day two or maybe two may maybe double dip
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: there to train behind Trey Hendrickson, you know, throw them
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: in a in a group. I could see that, and
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: I could see why they would think, well, we just
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: did this with Digs and look it out, it worked beautifully.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: He was exactly what we thought we were getting. I
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: could certainly see that with Trey Hendrickson, who, let's face it,
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: like Cincinnati did the Cincinnati thing with him, He probably
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: wasn't too thrilled about the situation there. They kept on,
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: you know, franchise tagging him and stringing him along and
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: stuff like that. So maybe he has like one more
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: peak Trey Hendrickson season with him and within him. Why
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: why not with the Patriots.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: But he wasn't in camp last year, so that probably
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: impacted his performance.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: The other thing, Yeah, he played fine when he was healthy.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: He just wasn't healthy.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: The thing you hear a lot about the Patriots and
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: spending is, yeah, okay, they don't have that many guys
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: to resign this year, but they have the Christian Zalz
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: extension looming, and they have the Drake May extension looming.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Those are obviously going to be very significant money. Yes,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: they Gonzalez can sign his extension this year. This is
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: gonna be year four. He's going in a year four, right, Yeah,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: it doesn't the extension doesn't kick in. They don't have
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: to actually start paying that money outside of the signing
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: bonus right until twenty seven. Yeah, So if Hendrickson's a
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: one year deal, he's off the books before those kick in.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: That's not going to be the case with the other guys.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Now it's probably more money in that one year, like
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: per year than what those other guys are going to get. Right,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: there's a boost there. So Tracks just texted me back
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: he had a core muscle injury that he tried to
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: play through.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: Yeah, those are all weird. I like I said, I
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: think we both kind of mentioned it. It. This just
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: feels a lot like Stefan Diggs last year, name.
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: Brand, high high ceiling, you know, very like if it
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: hits it, it's gonna hit big guy with something to prove,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: coming off an injury, coming off a weird situation in Cincinnati.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: I just think that that's the type of guy that
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: they're going to gravitate towards because you look at Oway, Phillips,
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: Mafey and I'm a big fan of Boe mafe Is
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: going back to his draft and I think that he's
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: just a physical, you know, downhill great athlete. Yeah, I
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: really would like them to consider him as well.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: The other thing about Mafey for me, yeah, is between
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Phillips Away and him, Yeah, like he has the worst
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: production out of the three.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: He needs more playing time.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: But right I don't think he was in a good situation.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: So there's like an old baseball idiom. I don't know
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: what you want to call it. Like, if you two
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: guys run to for I forget the times, like five seconds, right,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: two guys take exactly five seconds to run to his base. Yeah,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: but one guy does with perfect form, one guy does
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: with bad form. Who do you want.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Perfect for him?
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: No? I don't want bad for him, because if the guy,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: if one guy's running five seconds in perfect form, one
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: guy's running five seconds in bad form.
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: If you fix what guy, fix that guy's form?
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Right? So to me, Mafey's that and like it's not
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: a technical thing. I'm just like, I don't he's right
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: in their class right now. Yeah, but I think he's
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: been in the worst situation of the three of them. Yeah,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: So what happens when you put him in a good situation,
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: it's it's basically ceiling.
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, But like, I just think that he's their kind
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: of guy.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: I think, and I think there's more untapped potential there
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: than with Phillips in Oway, And I don't know that
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the floor is so high with either of those two
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: that it's like you don't really want to look at
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: the potential. Just get the guy. You know he's gonna play.
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you might be able to get Jalen phillips on
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: a on a kind of a proven deal. He's dealt
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: with injuries throughout his entire career. I don't think he's
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: ever truly hit his ceiling and Philly or with Miami.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: I know it was with Philly fir.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Which hits some injury stuff too, yeah, very yeah, injury
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: like Mafi. I mean, not hitting his ceiling is more
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: just he wasn't given the chance.
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I would if I wasn't in on Hendrickson, if
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: they if that's not where the route that they go
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: and they want to sign somebody that's younger to more term,
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: because Henderson's a short term proposition. It's a Britak It's.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: It's two years max. Yeah, and maybe it's a three
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: year contract on paper. He's not here for more than
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: two years.
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: But Mafi is the type of guy that I would
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: I would extend to maybe three years, four years.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: To try to keep him only twenty seven.
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: Yeah, last one here on this kind of tier, calevon
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: Chase on fifteen million right now per years around where
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: you know over the cap has a three year that
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: three year, forty five million dollar total contract. Fifteen million aav.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: How much do you.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Value you know it works? Familiarity, yep, you know. And
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: do they want a guy? I think we all like
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: he's a one B and maybe Mafe becomes the one
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: A or somebody you draft or Hendrickson. I don't think
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: you get it's not going to be Chased On in
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: one of those guys. It's tough. Yeah, I wouldn't be
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: upset if they brought back Chase On. But my bigger
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: ta I guess this is for further in the tiers.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: There's a couple guys. I look at Lazar's tears. There's
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: a couple guys I look at that could be like
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: this year's Calebon Chase On.
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: Yeah, me too, right, I would say with Chase On,
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: the biggest thing to me with Chase On is like,
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: you know it works? Is not he's not a double
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: digit Pro Bowl caliber player with you, but you know
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: it works. And if I'm him, like there's some piece
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: of me right with all the bumps in the road
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: that he had with the seventeen coaching regimes in Jacksonville,
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: the year with Vegas, like he finally came here and
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: seemed like he like felt at home and was like
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: happy and was performing and was in a culture that
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: he liked, in a place that he liked, playing for
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: a coach that he liked. Like, I'm not saying hometown
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: discount because I think if I'm him, you got to
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: try to cash.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: In twenty nine. This is but like, is he really
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: fall to him?
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: Is he going to is just in a better situation here,
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: it might help you, you know, at fifteen million per
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: if you want to do chase On and then sign
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: one of these like tier two guys that we're probably
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: both thinking about.
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: I could live with that as well. If Hendrickson doesn't pan.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: Out, So I I'd rank them Hendrickson, Mafe, chase On,
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: Chase On the rest Yeah, oh way, And Phillips.
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: Always like I get why people really like oh way,
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: He's I gotta look this up because I want to
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: be accurate.
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: But I feel like he's a little big for them.
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: No, Like you know, just in terms of like playstyle
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: like II five, Yeah, Like.
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: It's a little heavy for them.
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: I feel like they're more in that two fifty two
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: to fifty five range, like they think chase On played
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: between two fifty five and two sixty last year. Harold
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: Landry's like closer to two fifty. You know, it's just
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: a little bit more of like a true hand of
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: the dirt end versus somebody that's going to kind of
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: like dance outside the tackle. Yeah, that's just how I
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: feel a little bit about. Oh yeah, who are the
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: guys from your your next tier here?
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Well, so now you get into groups more than tears.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: There's the Clusta's old guy you're trying to get the
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: last drop out of versus the young guys.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Who are you're gonna give Joey Bosa take is.
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: I've actually pivoted on that. I did not realize how
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: much returnover machine Khalil Mack has been lately. So like
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: literally there's three old guys in there, uh four if
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: you count Cameron Jordan. Cameron Jordan to me, is going
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: back to the Saints are retiring, right, He's not going
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: anywhere else. Look, if he opened to it, I would
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: take him. I've always loved Cameron Jordan. I just he's
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: a saint for life. Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Javian Clowney. Yeah,
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: have any interest in any of those things? You could
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: sell me on? Khalil Mack is the secondary edition. If
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: it's like Hendrickson or Chase On or Mafe and then Mac,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: I'm in. But if he's like the guy, even if
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: you're say, all right, we're gonna take one in the
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: first round, if he's your big veteran edition, I think
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: you should do a little more.
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: But it's the second guy.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: I thought we were doing year tiers. Where are we
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: on my tiers?
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: Because you had the list?
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: Well, so then it's like it's more like, can they
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: find this year's caleb On chase On? Caleb On Chason
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: was the first round pick, failed to produce, still a
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: young guy. They brought him and they maxed him out.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: So to me, a couple guys that are here that
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: you know potentially fit that Mold Arnold Abi Ketty who
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: they were linked to at the trade deadline. So that's
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: the one for me, all right, I'm gonna be a
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: couple more Arnold Ebakeetty, Yeah, Quinny Payah, Quinny Pey, Malcolm Koontz.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: And this one's kind of tongue in cheek, josh U Jay.
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: Look, that one's very tongue in cheek, but like he
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: is kind of a fit for what they're looking for
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: so they didn't trade him. Ebikite is the guy to
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: me when I say they didn't trade him, that was
- 1:44:39Speaker 3: the drought Maailer.
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so Ebic key Day is a classic, is it?
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Eb I thought it was Ebic Ketty.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: I think it's epic.
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: He I'll look it up. This isn't me calling you out.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: This is ONBB I don't know. I think it's on
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: his profile reference page. I'll find it.
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: Six two fifty.
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: Good, good athlete, like very nimble, fluid pass rusher, first
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: step explosiveness, bend a good, really good player at Penn State.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: It just hasn't really worked out for him in the NFL.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: For for me like that, that's the guy that if
- 1:45:14Speaker 3: I'm like trying to take like a flyer on you know,
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: I think he was like an early second round pick.
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: I don't think he was a pure first rounder.
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: I think he was like I remembered.
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: I think he was like the thirty eighth pick in
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: the in the draft or something like that to Atlanta
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: right in twenty two.
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: He was.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: Thirtieth pick.
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: Nailed it.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: That that to me is the type of guy that
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: I would actually not mind at all if they end
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: up not going with Hendrickson, who's gonna make probably twenty
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: plus million.
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Let's say they go in that, you know they bring
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: Chase on back.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Yeah, if they signed Arnold Ebikiti, Ebikati Ebicadi.
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: Has like, we're just gonna take a We're gonna take
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: a flyer on this guy. Is this on the k
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna We're gonna give him like a
- 1:45:58Speaker 3: one year prove it deal and let's see what happens.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: I would be in on that. I think that he's
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: got untapped potential. I think he's someone that uh at
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Penn State fit their mold, like true outside linebacker, defensive
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: end in a four or three. I think that he's
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: kind of their kind of kind of they're kind of
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: dupe just the way that he plays. So I would
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: take him as like the second guy.
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: Like I wouldn't give him.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: As the second yea, these are all the second guy
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: at this point yep. So And could he I know
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: some of these guys are more like defensive ends, but
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: could he pay Malcolm Koons any interest in those guys?
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: No, not really, Joseph Osai, Yeah, because like I feel like,
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: once you start getting into this tier, I think Ebikida
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: has a little bit more ceiling, Like I think that
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: he could actually go to another level. But once you
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: get into this tier, like, aren't you ebkat, aren't you
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: talking about like taking snaps away from whatever rookie that
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: you're playing. You're drafted Elijah Ponder. I think maybe they
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: still are pretty high on and like think that he
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: could be something like you probably just want to go
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: into let your guys develop mode, let your young dudes develop.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: I got one more tier you, okay? Former Titans Draymond Jones,
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: arden Key, we heard these names at the trade deadline.
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: Draymond Jones, I would have just the list. Did Dante
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: Fowler ever play for the Titans? I don't think so.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: Draymond Jones, I think is the guy that, uh is
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: this second tier guy, second cluster guy that if they
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: miss out one on the top guys, then Draymond Jones
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: for a year as you develop a rookie is not
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: a bad a bad proposition.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: He's a good pass rusher.
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: You know, he's a guy that can can win in
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: the pass rush, win with multiple moves, uh, you know,
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: really good speed.
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: I did like you. They're kind of guy.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: How about Dante Fallo as well where they're ten and
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: a half sacks two years ago in Washington, three last
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: year in Dallas.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: No, I'm all set on like the the over the
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: Hill guys.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: Oh he's thirty two. Yeah, I didn't resu that all.
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: Let's let's let's have a little bit of upward trajectory,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: just even a tiny bit.
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: I would take arden Key is the second guy. Rabel
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: has just proven he can get something out of him. Okay,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: as this is so as what I very able really
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: thinks of barden team. But what do you mean just
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: you know, attitude all that kind of fair enough?
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: Do we do the guards? Because we have twelve minutes
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: left and I want to get.
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: To the guard, we definitely should do the guard.
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: So there's three guards that I look at, and there's
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: a fourth guard that I really like the idea but
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: probably isn't quite in this terms.
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: Of contract value.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: So Suemalu Isaac Suemalu from Pittsburgh.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: They have him met one year, eight million. I think
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: he's gonna get a lot more.
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: No.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport said during the draft, these guys are going
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: to get like fifteen million dollars.
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's a good player.
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: David Edwards from Buffalo, which is probably in that tier
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: of fifteen plus he.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: Was So the two specifically that Rappaport noted were.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: Zion Johnson.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: Zion Johnson and David Edwards at fifteen million.
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: That one, I I it's again, it's I'm not that
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: Zion Johnson to get what fifteen plus million?
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: Who's Zion Johnson? What favoredon Ian Rappaport.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Oh, to Zion john p has had four years fifty
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: one million, twenty seven guaranteed.
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: Banana land, banana land for Zion Johnson, Like he's probably that.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Was a cool, strange draft. And Dylan Park No, who's
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: the other fri It was Zion Johnson. And who's the
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: kid out of Texas A and M that year?
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: Oh we went to Houston. Yeah, drafted by Cassario.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's gonna bum me. He I think has actually
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: been a decent player.
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: Uh so.
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: Edwards, Suemlow, Kenyan Green, Kenyan Green, I don't think.
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think I think he flamed out.
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: Oh no, yeah they did.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: They cut him.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Yeah, uh right, draft David Edwards and then does based
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: off the projections you have to.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: Put VERA Tucker on this list.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: Now, Vera Tucker has been injured a lot, a lot.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Yeah, but when he.
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: Plays, Vera Tucker is a really good player when he plays.
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: Uh So, those three guys are like the top of
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: the guard market. Let's just call it fifteen. Even in
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: that sort of range. Who are you taken out of
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: that group? I like David Edwards me too. I mean,
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: Himmalo's close the tiebreaker for me, as you're taking them
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: from the bills, we can't resign them anyways.
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: A little bit better run box.
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: Grabbing those Indivision guys. They've obviously had a ton of
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: success from that, and they're there, don't you know. I
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: know some people roll their eyes at that. There is
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: something to that signing the guys that's.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: That's a strength of Buffalo's team.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: Other than that, that's a classic Belichick move too. So yeah,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: I think he's a little younger too, right, and and
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: he's a little bigger, so a little bit wider, you know. Yeah,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: I really liked the idea of David Edwards. If Edwards
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: Samalo is here, I'd be a static either one of them.
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: Verit Tucker.
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: The injuries, I think Vera Tucker to me is like
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: similar to Hendrickson, where it's like, if that's the move
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: because they're just banking on a healthy season from him,
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: and they're gonna draft the mid round guard and develop
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: the mid round guard.
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: But they don't.
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: They have Vertit Tucker, so they don't have to start
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: the guard right away, like that whole thing right, Like
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: it's a it's a good like kind of backstop to
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: a rookie, so you don't have to put the rookie
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: in right away if you.
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: Don't want to. But that's an expensive backstop.
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: Like you're going to be talking about a guy that
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: is at least probably going to get a two year
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: contract at around you know, somewhere between twelve and fifteen million.
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: There's a lot of money.
- 1:51:17Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: The other guy that I've sort of started to gravitate
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: towards a little bit is Joel Patonio.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: I just feel like, yeah, I had to bridge but
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: for one year.
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: Though, Like again, if you're if you're assuming that they're
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: going to keep drafting lineman, which I think is a
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: safe assumption. Uh, if you signed Joel Buttonia, remember when
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: they brought in Brian Waters.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: For a season. Brian Waters. But I get what you're
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: saying Joel Potonio is a pretty fine Hall of Famer.
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: Okay, maybe I'm maybe I'm under selling Brian.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Brian Water like a yeah, I know it's a multi
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: time All Pro, so two time All Pro? Okay, so maybe,
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: but Buttonio is a really good player. But Tonio is
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: a good player, good player. I'm just thinking very high
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Brian Waters. So apparently, so I think Joel Batonio is
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: a classic. Like, we're going to play this guy. Oh,
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: Joe Buttonio is a five time All Pro'll put my
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: foot in my mouth fair enough.
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: I told you pay that Cleveland offensive line was nails
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: for like a half a decade. Yeahright, So he's a classic,
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: Like this is just a professional.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: It's kind of like Morgan Moses at right tackle.
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: Right, this is just a pros pro played the position
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: at a high level for like a decade.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: You're gonna set it and forget it with Joel Batonio.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: Is it a long term answer?
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: No?
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: But you're also not giving him a four year, fifty
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: million dollar contract either, right, Like you're talking about giving
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: him one year of starter money. I just really liked
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: the idea of doing that and then putting him next
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: to Campbell for a year, having him help Campbell out
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: for a season, drafting and developing guards still and continuing
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: to draft lineman every single year, and then hopefully one
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: of these guys from the draft, whether it's Jared Wilson
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: or it's somebody else that's more of a pure guard prospect,
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: kind of comes out of the ashes and is your
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: car the future, your long term answer to that position.
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: But I think by signing a guy like Potonio, you're
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: at least not forcing yourself to draft a guard at
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: thirty one, right, Like you can kind of get out
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: of that.
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: Sort of thing.
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: I like the idea that David Edwards would be fun
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: just because he's a good player and he's and he's
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: from Buffalo. You're stealing a taking away from a strength
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: of the Bills. But I think the the smarter move
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: might be to just give Betonio like a one year
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: starter kind of contract and keep drafting and at least
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: you have somebody that's a veteran that's played the position
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: before and is good at it. So that was those
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: are the guys that I had. We can take a
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: few of these calls. I really hope they're in that
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: guard market.
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: You know, I say it unfiltered yesterday is like this
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: is a layup. There's like five or six guys that
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: can all play if you want to throw Zion Johnson
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: in there. But that's you know, Sumalu Edwards, Vera, Tucker
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: Johnson Potonio like that.
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: That's that's a good guard market. It's a good group.
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: Go go, go sign one, Go get one of those
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: guys and help out Will Campbell. Like I think the
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: Will Campbell thing quickly. It's a little bit like when
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: you draft a quarterback, like you need to. Will Campbell
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: is somebody that you were heavily invested in as an organization.
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: He was the fourth overall pick in the draft. You
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: are heavily invested. Like, don't make life harder on him
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: by putting him with somebody that no offense to Jared
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: Wilson really is in the guard or putting him against
- 1:54:27Speaker 3: such another rookie that's a third round pick that you're
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: trying to develop, Like, go out and help him, like,
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: go out and give him a serious wingman. Yeah, you
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: know that, it's a lot like a quarterback. All right,
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: let's get to the phones, and you guys got to
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: be a little bit quick because we're up against it.
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: But Paul is in California? What's up Paul?
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: Paul? Okay? No, Paul, Andrew is in Kingston. What's up Andrew?
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: No Andrew? Okay? I think they thought knew the show
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: was coming to an end.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: All right, let me ask you a couple more positions
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: real quick? Yeah, because these are just good classes? Ht
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: these positions?
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: Okay? Linebacker that was one of them.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Devin Lloyd's is a really good player. I mean,
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: I don't really think that probably a pipe dream, but
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: it's kind of silly, Like I don't think you need
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: to spend on Devin Lloyd.
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: What about a guy that that we both really like.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: PFF has him at twelve million a year. Oh no, wow,
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: they have him at twelve million totally they met sixty year.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: I don't know about that. We both really liked this
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: guy in the draft, Leoshan.
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: I do like leoshanal but he didn't really live up
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: to the hype, right, Like, No, he's.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: A good player, he's fine.
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: That's like a long term replacement for uh splain kind
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: of thing. Yeah, you're gonna play together.
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: I mean I wouldn't pay him a ton but fine safety.
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: They if Jalen Hawkins walks, it's a starter position that
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: they need to fill. I like Kobe Bryant.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: I like Kobe Bryant, I like Brian Cook. That's probably
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: a little high in the market for them. Yeah, I
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: like Brisker. I'm gonna keep pounding the table for this
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: even if Hawkins comes back. I want them to add
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: a legit safety. I want them to have more depth.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: I want them to be able to play three safety sets.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: I will asterisk like smaller, fast coverage linebacker. Kyle Lewis
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: would check this box for me. Not adding a second linebacker,
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: not like Jacob Driguez, but like specifically a coverage linebacker,
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: a pure coverage linebacker.
- 1:56:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: But I want them to add somebody that allows them
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: to play those packages. So it's getting Hawkins back and
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: then somebody.
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: I would say, I agree with you one hundred percent
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: at safety because with Dime like, I think they played
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: too much nickel last year.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: I think they were two three corner nickel heavy. I
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: just it wasn't that they had bad players out there.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: It wasn't anything like that. It just like really limited
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: their flexibility on the back end to play games like
- 1:56:43Speaker 2: they When you have three safeties out there, you can
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: keep too deep. You can play one as like a
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: free player, whether he's blitzing or he's a robber, or
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: he's handling higher stress coverage situations. You know, you can
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: do a lot of different things with three safeties that
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: I think a lot of the especially like the the Ravens,
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: mintor Tree coaches, whether that's McDonald or Minter themselves, those
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: guys like Seattle played a ton of dime that obviously
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: m and worry is a big part of that, But
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: like having that kind of flexibility back there to get
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: into six dbs and sort of just do different coverages
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: and do some different things with those three safeties is valuable.
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: And I think that they were. They were one of
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: the heavier nickel teams in the league last year, and
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: it was a lot of three corner nickels, specifically with
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: Marcus Jones playing the nickel.
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: I think they could be a little.
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: Bit more versatile back there by having like a playable
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: third safety. No offense to del Pettis, but like.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: That, it's just the way the league's trending. And is
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: it a little bit of a luxury edition? Oh why
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: are they need third safety. They're trying to at other positions.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: I think they're good enough to make a couple of
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: luxury editions and this would be one of them. So yeah,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: And that it doesn't have to be free agency like
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: that again, Kyle Lewis the draft.
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be an expensive free agentcy J. Pain.
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: I just free agent.
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: And that guy's going to expect to play. And if
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: he comes in and now all of a sudden he's
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: a dimebacker.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: That's so that's why again, like Brian Cook, top of
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: the markets, probably a little much.
- 1:58:09Speaker 3: Because that guy's ultimately only going to play fifteen to
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: twenty percent of this now.
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: Right, Kobe Bryant is a guy you can probably sign
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: for that role. I'm just looking at it.
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: Well, sooey, Brian, I feel like as someone that's gonna
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: expect the start. He just started Super Bowl camps, So
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: that's true.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: What about like, I'm just looking at the list of names,
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: the cross it crosses in ba Oh, he was hurt,
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: that's right?
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Well I do like the linebackers, just
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: a thought.
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: It's a good linebacker, it's a good yeah market And
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: then it's funny the strengths in free agency in the
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: strengths in the draft are the same. Are this and
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: the weakness is too. It's very weird. Yeah, I've never
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: seen it like mo definitely line up.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: I think the draft wide receiver group is better than
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: the free agency.
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: Crews a little. Well.
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: Al Pierce helps it out a lot, but I don't
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: really like.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: I mean maybe in terms of like long term impact,
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: but Mike Evans for a year, that's pretty good.
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: Mike Evans for a year. Uh, you know, Pickens is
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: now franchise. I think people are sleeping on Shiheed a
- 1:59:05Speaker 3: little bit.
- 1:59:06Speaker 2: I'm not sleeping on Jahei, but he's a type, right,
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: He's He's not going to be a volume receipt.
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: It's not as good as it is in the draft.
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: But like maybe that's the one spot where kind of
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: The draft is just a little bit deeper.
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: And like in terms of the Patriots like Shaheed, Romeo, Dobbs,
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: Wandale Robinson, you have you have that at home, like
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: you have all those guys, uh, you know, Kaishaan Boodie, Romeo, Dobbs, Shaheed,
- 1:59:29Speaker 3: Kyle Williams is like his apex is probably Rashid Shaheed
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: like what you hope Kyle Williams becomes Wandelle Robinson and
- 1:59:36Speaker 3: Pop Douglas are clones of each other, you know, the
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: same player. So I just think a lot of that
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: is that. And then like then you have like your
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: veteran Mike Evans, who you're you know, maybe Mike Evans.
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: I think DeAndre Hopkins is a free agent again, Brandon
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: Cooks is a free agent. Like you're doing that whole
- 1:59:52Speaker 3: thing all right. Next week we'll be back, same time,
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: same place. On Wednesday, the tampering period will be up
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: and running the league year officially for some reason. I
- 2:00:03Speaker 3: don't know why they do this, but I think the
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: league year is at four because everybody was.
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: Doing it behind closed doors anyway.
- 2:00:08Speaker 2: So they so just move up the start of the
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: league year to start the league.
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: Year, and money Buddy's gonna start spring earlier.
- 2:00:14Speaker 2: Okay, this is what happened with Okay, it's a good point.
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: I didn't get baseball like the free agency just kept
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: moving up, yeacause yeah, they basically like, look, if you
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: actually respect some of this, we'll give you a window
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: where you can do it.
- 2:00:27Speaker 3: Okay, so we'll definitely have some signing some moves by
- 2:00:31Speaker 3: the time we do the show next Wednesday, so I'm
- 2:00:33Speaker 3: really looking forward to that until then, signing off for
- 2:00:35Speaker 3: Alex and Alex DALs find the Glass, Salx, Bartham, Evan Lazar,
- 2:00:38Speaker 3: thanks for watching.
- 2:00:39Speaker 2: We'll see you for Free Agency next week. Guys. It
- 2:00:41Speaker 2: should be fun.
