Transcript
- 0:00Hey, this is Gene. Welcome back to Dumbass is Talking Politics. This is a flash podcast.
- 0:08There's not going to be much music. There's not going to be much in the way
- 0:12of introduction. There's not even going to be much in the way of commentary.
- 0:18This is probably going to be very short.
- 0:21So there has been a verdict reach in the Carmelo Anthony murder trial.
- 0:30Now, if you don't know Carmelo Anthony or you haven't been paying attention
- 0:35to the world at all, Carmelo Anthony is a black kid,
- 0:40who decided at a track meet to illegally carry a knife into the track meet and then sit.
- 0:49Under another team's tent. Another youth, someone who was competing,
- 0:54went into the tent. His name is Metcalf.
- 0:59Jeff Metcalf, I guess. I can't remember what his first name is.
- 1:03But he went into the tent and basically told him he needed to leave.
- 1:07He refused to leave. There were words.
- 1:11There may have been some pushing.
- 1:14And Carmelo Anthony pulled a knife from his bag, stabbed Metcalf in the chest,
- 1:19killed him immediately.
- 1:21The kid died two minutes later. Then Carmelo Anthony threw the knife away, ran out of the stadium.
- 1:29He was caught by coaches and one of Metcalfe's friends who, of course, happened to be black.
- 1:36Now, this trial started last week. They expected, I think it started Saturday.
- 1:42They expected this trial to take two weeks long. It didn't take two weeks long.
- 1:46It took less than five days.
- 1:49It turned out that the defense called a bunch of witnesses, but that made up
- 1:56only one day of the trial.
- 1:58And those witnesses were actually devastating to the case.
- 2:04They made Carmelo Anthony look like the aggressor. They made Carmelo Anthony
- 2:08look like he went out there to do it.
- 2:11They admitted he wasn't supposed to have a knife in the track meet.
- 2:17This looked like cruel murder.
- 2:21And the Carmelo Anthony family has been miserable. They've made over $650,000
- 2:27off the murder of Bryce Metcalf. Bryce, that's a Metcalf.
- 2:33They made lots of money off of him. They showed no remorse.
- 2:38Carmelo Anthony served maybe a day in jail, two days in jail,
- 2:42was given a lowered bail and was released to his parents. He was allowed to
- 2:48graduate. This is after he murdered someone. Yeah.
- 2:53And now he finally has his jury. I think Carmelo Anthony is beginning to face reality a little bit.
- 3:00And all this time, a bunch of black activists have been out there protesting,
- 3:06that Carmelo Anthony shouldn't go to jail, should be found not guilty,
- 3:10and that Bryce Metcalf just got what he deserved.
- 3:14It is really a horrid case.
- 3:17It is a prime example of racism,
- 3:21in the opposite direction there was no reason for this kid to do this the defense,
- 3:27witnesses said this it wasn't like it wasn't like you know the prosecution put
- 3:34on a great case the defense had no case,
- 3:37they were claiming self-defense which made no sense And that was thrown out pretty quickly.
- 3:43And everyone who's being interviewed, as far as the people who support Carmelo
- 3:50Anthony, are basically saying the same thing. Well, that guy probably deserved it.
- 3:57I'm sorry, I finally got his name. It's not Bryce. It's Austin Metcalf.
- 4:01It tells you how quick I set this up.
- 4:04Jeff Metcalf is actually his father.
- 4:07So we're waiting for the actual verdict.
- 4:12I think this is going to be an extremely important verdict. There are three options the jury has.
- 4:19Not guilty, obviously. Guilty of murder. Or guilty of manslaughter.
- 4:25Now, my personal opinion is that he's going to be found guilty of manslaughter.
- 4:32I think the jury is going to split the baby. And I think the jury is going to
- 4:35split the baby only because the jury is all white.
- 4:41That's kind of a big shocker, is that the jury is completely white.
- 4:46And again, looking at how these people, how the black people are responding to this case right now,
- 4:56I don't think there should be an extreme surprise that they decide that the
- 5:02judge and the prosecution got rid of so many black sheriffs.
- 5:06Now watching this right now I'm watching Fox News Watching this right now You
- 5:12could imagine no matter which direction This whole thing goes There's going to be problems tonight,
- 5:18I can almost guarantee there's going to be problems tonight Not as many problems
- 5:23If Carmelo Anthony is found not guilty,
- 5:26But there will be protests There will be protests tonight If he's found not
- 5:31guilty And if he's found guilty,
- 5:33Yep, you can imagine there's going to be huge problems now this is in Cullen
- 5:37County McKinney Texas I don't know much about that portion of Texas looks like
- 5:43just a bunch of cowboys and,
- 5:45So we'll have to see. But this is an amazing case. I can't believe they came
- 5:51out with a verdict so quick.
- 5:53They actually got together today. So right now it is 12.14 on Pacific Coast
- 6:00time, which means it's about 2.14 over there.
- 6:03That means they've been in deliberation for four hours.
- 6:07So there wasn't a lot of question about what they all thought.
- 6:12I think he's going to be found guilty. I don't think there's going to be a shock here.
- 6:16I do not know when they're going to give the verdict.
- 6:21But we'll hang out until they say something.
- 6:28I really am surprised that this came out so fast. Really, really surprised.
- 6:35Now, as the Fox News is talking, they have defense attorneys on.
- 6:41What they're basically saying is it would be very unsurprising if they actually
- 6:50found him guilty of manslaughter.
- 6:54But one of the things this gal said, and it makes a lot of sense,
- 6:58to come back with a verdict so quickly, it's hard to believe that every one
- 7:03of those jurors thought this was manslaughter.
- 7:06So what she's saying is she's thinking it's going to be one or the other.
- 7:12It's going to be not guilty or it's going to be guilty of murder.
- 7:15Now, I haven't heard if this is capital murder, if this is first-degree murder,
- 7:20or second-degree murder.
- 7:23Again, we don't know how murder – I don't know how murder works in Texas, how they rate it.
- 7:28I mean, if it's capital murder or first-degree, which is, I think,
- 7:31first-degree murder, that would qualify him for the death penalty.
- 7:36Even though he did this when he was under 18 years old, that would make it that
- 7:42he cannot actually face a death penalty.
- 7:45Some of the things that she said is that he was crying, he was very upset,
- 7:51he didn't think that he had actually killed him. As a matter of fact,
- 7:54to calm him down, they told Carmelo Anthony that he was not dead, which he was.
- 8:00I'm having kind of a difficult time putting this thing all together.
- 8:04Now, here's the thing, too. There was video footage of this.
- 8:09Not only were there witnesses, which is never really good.
- 8:13It's almost circumstantial. Witness testimony is almost circumstantial.
- 8:19There was video footage. Nobody has seen the video footage.
- 8:23This is one of the problems with transparency is that if we see the video footage,
- 8:29maybe we'll get a better understanding of what's going on.
- 8:32Chances are in the next few days, we will see some of that video footage.
- 8:37But my understanding is, and this is just my understanding, that video footage
- 8:41basically showed that there was not a lot of back and forth or fighting or pushing,
- 8:49shoving, punching, anything like that.
- 8:52According to the video footage, it was that they were just sitting there.
- 8:58So we know that's not true.
- 9:00We know that Austin Metcalf did push him, but he didn't hurt him. He did push him.
- 9:07We do know there was some talk, and basically all that talk is witness testimony.
- 9:14And none of that witness testimony was on Carmelo Anthony's side.
- 9:18So we'll have to see what the jury is thinking.
- 9:22And again, we're not going to hear. We're just going to hear guilty or innocent.
- 9:26So we'll have to see. I think in the coming months when people start talking,
- 9:31if they want to start talking, it also depends on the reaction tonight.
- 9:35I think the reaction tonight is going to be funky.
- 9:38We're going to see it tonight. But we'll see. So we're just waiting for the verdict.
- 9:44They don't have a timeline as to when the verdict's going to be read.
- 9:48But supposedly it is going to be read today. So we're just waiting.
- 9:53And I'm just, I'm glad they're covering this live.
- 9:57Because the reaction is going to be something.
- 10:02Well, as we're sitting here, there's other pretty big news.
- 10:06Apparently, Iran has shot down a U.S. Apache helicopter.
- 10:11That Iran is not the country that you can trust.
- 10:17That Iran is not this country that is peaceful. They're not.
- 10:23That the only way anything will happen as far as that regime goes,
- 10:30it's going to be to take them out and basically destroy their economy.
- 10:36Right now, I think Karg Island is probably on the table.
- 10:41I think hitting all their major energy resources is probably on the table.
- 10:46Believe it or not, I thought that anyway. I really, I thought that wasn't going
- 10:50to be on the table. I think Trump was just keeping that close to the vest and
- 10:56keeping that as an option.
- 10:59I understand why he doesn't want to go out there and start destroying them.
- 11:03Because if we're going to have regime change, you don't want the new regime,
- 11:09to have to struggle through this.
- 11:11Rebuild their entire energy, rebuild their economy.
- 11:16You want them just to change the regime and then continue business,
- 11:21but with a better relationship to the United States than before.
- 11:25So again, it's going to be interesting to see what's happening.
- 11:30The world is just going crazy right now.
- 11:33Now, as we're waiting for this verdict, there's one thing I do want to make clear.
- 11:37If Carmelo Anthony is found guilty, Let's just say he's found guilty of murder or even manslaughter.
- 11:44There's not to be joy or celebration. It's we're not, I'm not going to celebrate this either way.
- 11:50Austin Metcalf had a life. He lost his life.
- 11:54If Anthony is, and he is, Anthony has been convicted of murder.
- 12:01So he's not convicted of, he's not been convicted of manslaughter.
- 12:06He's not been found not guilty. He's been convicted of murder. which.
- 12:14Which makes me content. Here's the thing. This kid's life is now gone. It's over.
- 12:21He's going to be spending 25 to life in prison.
- 12:25That's something to celebrate.
- 12:27And Austin Metcalf is still dead. There's nothing to celebrate.
- 12:33What makes me content on this verdict is it was a just verdict.
- 12:39And it shows we don't have a two-tier justice system yet.
- 12:44That's all it is. We don't have a two-tier justice system.
- 12:48You can be black and be convicted of murder. Just like if the races were reversed,
- 12:55this wouldn't have made news, by the way. Yeah, it might have made news.
- 12:59It might have been white kid stabs black kid. And then we can talk about that
- 13:03like we did with George Floyd for the next 10 years.
- 13:07But the fact of the matter is, this is not a two-tier justice system based on race.
- 13:13And that's what's important. These lives are ruined. These lives are ruined.
- 13:18His parents should be convicted too.
- 13:20Carmelo Anthony's parents should be convicted too.
- 13:23They should be sued out of the ocean by the Metcalf family to take back the
- 13:30$650,000 that they made all this time.
- 13:34But none of this stuff is good. This is really bad.
- 13:37And the fact that this case here is, quote, complicated, end quote, or, quote.
- 13:45Putting the justice system on trial, end quote, or that race was even a thing here.
- 13:53I don't even think race was really a thing here. I don't think I think Carmelo
- 13:57Anthony would have killed a black kid just as well as he would have killed a white kid.
- 14:01But the fact that this was controversial bothers me.
- 14:06This kid was as guilty as the day is long. There was no question. The defense knew it.
- 14:13So now we're going to hear the reactions. There's going to be a ton of reactions.
- 14:18We'll have to watch what's going to happen in Texas tonight because he's looking
- 14:24at life now. He's looking at life in prison.
- 14:27Now, I don't know how the laws work in Texas with a juvenile committing murder.
- 14:32He's not a juvenile anymore, but he was a juvenile when he committed the murder.
- 14:37It's going to be interesting to see what the reaction of these activists,
- 14:42these black activists are going to be and what kind of riots or what's going to happen tonight.
- 14:49Because you know something's going to, it's going to happen in Chicago,
- 14:52it's going to happen in New York, it's going to happen in Los Angeles,
- 14:56probably going to happen in Dallas and Austin, Texas.
- 15:00There's going to be some major, major, major controversy tonight.
- 15:04Well, we'll talk about that tomorrow.
- 15:06I hope you guys have a great day. Unfortunately, very sobering day.
- 15:12Sad day, whether you, no matter what, you know, I wanted this guy convicted
- 15:18because I thought that this kid was a bad kid, but nothing is good.
- 15:23Nothing good happens here.
- 15:24So you guys have a nice day. Talk to you tomorrow. God bless.
- 15:27This is Gene. And you've listened to dumbasses talking politics.
