- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, of the podcast where
- 0:08Speaker 1: we talk about netball, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And it is the first week of sunshine after the
- 0:14Speaker 1: three weeks of the storm of the sun Corps Super
- 0:16Speaker 1: Netball signings period, and my god, we have a lot
- 0:19Speaker 1: to talk about. Two of us will have a lot
- 0:21Speaker 1: to talk about. One of us is not feeling very
- 0:23Speaker 1: well at all, but has joined us anyway. I'm Carolyn Swindell,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm Catherine Cox.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And I'm Lizellis. Who's the impact player today?
- 0:32Speaker 3: That that is Lozelliszells.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Something terrible sweeping across the Northern rivers, your poor thing.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So no prize is for guessing which of the three
- 0:43Speaker 1: No Dribble hosts is not feeling one hundred percent today.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But thank you for dragging yourself out of you. I'd
- 0:49Speaker 1: say your deathbed, but you've been up for hours driving
- 0:51Speaker 1: children around.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well. And also, I actually feel better today. Just my
- 0:55Speaker 2: voice sounds bad. I felt dreadful over the weekend, but
- 0:59Speaker 2: you know when you're a pair of and you just
- 1:01Speaker 2: kind of have a sickie, right. So Friday night I
- 1:04Speaker 2: took my daughter to rugby semifinals. Saturday was soccer and netball,
- 1:10Speaker 2: and then we got on a plane and flew to
- 1:11Speaker 2: Sydney and Everylyn had had a training thing all day
- 1:15Speaker 2: for netball because she was talent ID at Junior State
- 1:18Speaker 2: champs and which was really exciting. But I sat there
- 1:21Speaker 2: and just felt like death. So I got home, so
- 1:26Speaker 2: I just want to go to bed. Oh that's right,
- 1:29Speaker 2: I've got the podcast at night.
- 1:31Speaker 3: How do the kids do that?
- 1:33Speaker 4: Like it's tough for you to follow them around, but
- 1:35Speaker 4: they're actually physically doing so. She had three sports across
- 1:38Speaker 4: the weekend, including flying to Sydney.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Catherine, you've really missed the point here. We're not we're
- 1:43Speaker 1: not focusing on the children.
- 1:47Speaker 3: All the sympathy, absolutely, but far out. How is sheep pulled?
- 1:51Speaker 2: Oh she's fine. She's off to school. She had yesterday
- 1:54Speaker 2: off because we came home yesterday, and then she's going
- 1:56Speaker 2: to school today, and then on Wednesday she's playing AFL
- 2:00Speaker 2: And on Friday, all day she's umpiring at a primary
- 2:03Speaker 2: school netball thing, and then Friday night she's got to
- 2:06Speaker 2: run the Union Gram final. I'm just laughing.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Oh, the some of these kids get their licenses, the
- 2:10Speaker 4: better far out. I mean, you'll still go totally.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But you know, like she misses so much school. But
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I was going to tell you how smart she is,
- 2:18Speaker 2: but let me tell you how dumb she is. Right,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and so she's a straight A student grade at everything,
- 2:24Speaker 2: but cannot spell. So on the way down on the
- 2:27Speaker 2: plane on Saturday afternoon, we're listening to her playlist. We're
- 2:31Speaker 2: sharing iPods and Greece. You know, the song from Grease
- 2:35Speaker 2: came on and I said, oh, why do you like
- 2:37Speaker 2: this song? She goes, oh, it's a great song. I said,
- 2:38Speaker 2: have you seen the movie? She goes no. I said,
- 2:40Speaker 2: oh my god, let's watch the movie tonight. So we
- 2:43Speaker 2: go for dinner, we come back to the hotel, all
- 2:45Speaker 2: excited to sit down watch the movie. There's bits where
- 2:48Speaker 2: you cringe, where you go, I'm watching this with my
- 2:50Speaker 2: thirteen year olds, so rude. And I sort of was
- 2:53Speaker 2: watching her out the corner of my eye, thinking, oh, good,
- 2:56Speaker 2: that went over her head. And then there are other bits,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and she looked at me and I'm like, yeah, no,
- 3:00Speaker 2: it's not good, but it's just it's funny, right, so
- 3:02Speaker 2: go with it. So we get to the end, and
- 3:04Speaker 2: you know when they fly off into the into the clouds, Yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 2: I've also did you like it? She goes well? Is
- 3:14Speaker 2: that when they go to Greece.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Land?
- 3:26Speaker 1: How confusing to watch that whole movie thinking I've not
- 3:30Speaker 1: seen a single olive, There's no uzzo in this Where
- 3:33Speaker 1: is the acropolis?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Where's the fetter? Because she's food obsessed like me, where's
- 3:37Speaker 2: the f where's the ski?
- 3:39Speaker 4: Right?
- 3:39Speaker 2: So I said, well, what do you mean she goes
- 3:41Speaker 2: well Greece? I'm like, bade Greece is g r e
- 3:44Speaker 2: e c Greece?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Oh my god? I love that she went the whole
- 3:51Speaker 4: way through the movie, though, did you say you need
- 3:55Speaker 4: to watch Greece too? Because that's when they land and
- 3:58Speaker 4: then it's a whole different adventure.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Just quietly for the record, Grease Too is a ship movie.
- 4:03Speaker 3: But it's terrible, isn't it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I said to Michelle Pfeiffer in that I think it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Was I reckon.
- 4:08Speaker 4: You could be right, Natalie Cars knew it was going
- 4:11Speaker 4: to they I mean, they all knew it was going
- 4:13Speaker 4: to be crack because none of them came back, did they?
- 4:15Speaker 2: No? None?
- 4:16Speaker 1: But they all had to have graduated from high school,
- 4:19Speaker 1: that is true.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Five is the second one at high school.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Still I can't remember I've purged it from my memory.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I can't remember anyway. On the plight of the way home, can.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You watch Greece too and give us the summer?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the dribblers will be able to give
- 4:40Speaker 2: us a summary.
- 4:42Speaker 1: But the best bridesmaid I never had.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yes. So yeah, So we're coming home, and Evelyn te
- 4:48Speaker 2: me she said, I have to watch that movie again
- 4:51Speaker 2: now that I can concentrate on them not going to Greece.
- 4:56Speaker 3: And think more about lubricating oil for cars and stuff.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah. But you know, I actually after the movie, I
- 5:03Speaker 2: went down the rabbit hole a bit because I was like, oh,
- 5:05Speaker 2: you know when you watch a movie and you start
- 5:07Speaker 2: to look at like because I was trying to explain
- 5:10Speaker 2: things to her, and I started to google things, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: I didn't realize that Greece was a music or the
- 5:15Speaker 2: stage musical before it became a movie, and it was
- 5:18Speaker 2: set in Chicago. The original stage musical was written in Chicago,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and Sandy wasn't Australian. Sandy was a Polish girl, Sandy
- 5:26Speaker 2: Debroski or something like that in the original play, and
- 5:29Speaker 2: she got kicked out of a Catholic school and ended
- 5:31Speaker 2: up at the public school. And I thought, God, she
- 5:33Speaker 2: sounds like coxy.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Oh my god, So she wasn't. So the original Sandy
- 5:37Speaker 4: was a rebel, like it wasn't the good Shoes.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well yeah, but she wasn't. She wasn't as goody two
- 5:42Speaker 2: shoes and primum and proper as living it and John
- 5:45Speaker 2: Sandy was so I was. It's really fascinating to go
- 5:48Speaker 2: and read the backstory and then how they when they
- 5:49Speaker 2: made it into a movie, they turned it, they put
- 5:51Speaker 2: it in California and made it brighter and more all
- 5:53Speaker 2: American American pie. But the original one is really gritty
- 5:57Speaker 2: and really a lot more like sex and violence and
- 6:02Speaker 2: gang violence and all that sort of stuff, which I
- 6:03Speaker 2: think is so fascinating. And then it gets Hollywood eyed
- 6:06Speaker 2: and turned into this right bright, shiny thing where they
- 6:09Speaker 2: drive off into the clouds at the end, which is
- 6:11Speaker 2: so POxy. And but the other thing we did afterwards,
- 6:13Speaker 2: we actually started googling John Travolta and just watching videos
- 6:17Speaker 2: of him dancing, and she's Everyone's like, my god, she's fired.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I thought, my god, wait till I show you pulp fiction.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, but what about Saturday Night Fever? Was that the
- 6:27Speaker 3: how is that? Watching that?
- 6:30Speaker 1: There was oliving Newton, John and John Travolta did a
- 6:33Speaker 1: Christmas song. It must be it's more than twenty years
- 6:36Speaker 1: ago now, but it was a long time after their heyday.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It is the worst piece of Christmas excrement you will
- 6:44Speaker 1: ever see, and the most embarrassing film clip. I think
- 6:47Speaker 1: it's called I'm Coming Home for Christmas, and I post
- 6:51Speaker 1: it every year on Facebook because it's like, we must
- 6:54Speaker 1: never forget that this has happened in the name of Christmas.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I feel like John would be pulling it down, was he?
- 7:01Speaker 4: What was it?
- 7:02Speaker 3: Both of them were? They both bad, both bad.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And both bad, but you can tell they were just
- 7:06Speaker 1: doing it as a as a friendship project projects. So
- 7:11Speaker 1: my kids, it's deeply ironic that both of my children
- 7:14Speaker 1: will end up at Catholic secondary schools because they have
- 7:17Speaker 1: been brought up with zero religion. And one night I
- 7:20Speaker 1: was watching what I pulled up a movie to watch
- 7:22Speaker 1: with them, and it was that Evan Almighty with prel
- 7:25Speaker 1: So if you don't know it, it's the kind of
- 7:27Speaker 1: Noah's Ark story with this guy believes he has to
- 7:29Speaker 1: build an arc and I'm watching it with the kids,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and then but almost three quarters of the way through
- 7:34Speaker 1: They're sort of like, what, what's why? Why is he
- 7:37Speaker 1: doing this? And they had no idea of the story
- 7:40Speaker 1: of Noah's Ark. It's all right, I'm failing you because
- 7:45Speaker 1: whether or not you believe it religiously, it's important culturally, right,
- 7:49Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, I can see this movie would
- 7:51Speaker 1: make no sense at all.
- 7:54Speaker 2: So that's funny because you teach ethics, don't you. Yes,
- 7:57Speaker 2: you kids primary school, So Mike kids both went to
- 8:01Speaker 2: a public primary school, and Eviden's now gone to a
- 8:03Speaker 2: Catholic high school. And Austin keeps saying to me, why
- 8:07Speaker 2: do I have to do scripture? I'm like, mate, you're
- 8:09Speaker 2: doing scripture and I think I should say to him,
- 8:11Speaker 2: so you can learn about Jesus and God because we're Catholic. Mate,
- 8:14Speaker 2: when you go to these art galleries in Europe, you've
- 8:16Speaker 2: got to know the backstory.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true, so true.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Oh that's not.
- 8:22Speaker 3: It all is funny because I was the same. I
- 8:24Speaker 3: went to a just just for a moment.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Though. When you go to these art galleries in Europe,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it's do we have privileged children? I think we might.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I know, that's a great way to start a sentence. No,
- 8:35Speaker 3: I was the same.
- 8:36Speaker 4: But my thing when I got to high school was
- 8:38Speaker 4: you know when everybody goes up and.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Gets the Holy Communion, so it's called the biscuit.
- 8:41Speaker 1: The biscuit, I think it's the body of Christ, and
- 8:44Speaker 1: I believe it's a wafer.
- 8:46Speaker 3: No, but see this.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Is my When I first saw it, I was like, oh,
- 8:50Speaker 4: bring me back some biscuit.
- 8:51Speaker 3: And they're like, you can't. You got to eat it
- 8:53Speaker 3: up there. And I just get them a good a
- 8:54Speaker 3: little bit in your pocket.
- 8:56Speaker 4: And they're like, Catherine, you don't want it while you're out.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Well, they don't do that anymore, do they post COVID.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Everybody used to drink from the same cup.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what's happened to Liz I reckon. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 1: from the skull.
- 9:11Speaker 2: In the church wine. Yeah, not the first time.
- 9:20Speaker 1: But welcome back, I thank you. Give us the update.
- 9:23Speaker 1: How did the girls go on the weekend?
- 9:24Speaker 3: Well, selfishly, I was happy because they got rained out.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Oh I didn't miss anything, which is.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Friday night, because Saturday morning was blue skies and beautiful.
- 9:33Speaker 4: It was horrendous, So they canceled it. So I sent
- 9:36Speaker 4: on our group chat. Oh I'm sorry, guys, but I'm
- 9:38Speaker 4: actually really happy. About this. Yeah, I get to be
- 9:40Speaker 4: there for next week. But they made a very controversial
- 9:44Speaker 4: decision that because we had beaten this team that we
- 9:48Speaker 4: were playing twice throughout the season, they've just let us
- 9:50Speaker 4: go through so the game won't get played, which obviously
- 9:55Speaker 4: we're pumped about. But of course you put yourself in
- 9:57Speaker 4: the shoes of the other side straight away, and I thought, oh,
- 9:59Speaker 4: I don't know how it feels about that, but that
- 10:02Speaker 4: was the call that was made. So now we're playing
- 10:03Speaker 4: the prelim final on Friday night.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Well, that's exciting. Cost we had that at Summer Netball
- 10:09Speaker 1: last year that it was a draw and because they
- 10:11Speaker 1: finished the ladder higher than we did, and it's like
- 10:13Speaker 1: Summer Netball, we go start another game, get out. It's
- 10:15Speaker 1: like they had no overtime to play, and it's like, oh, well,
- 10:19Speaker 1: I guess that's life. We should have finished higher on
- 10:21Speaker 1: the ladder. We should but it's very hollow, like because
- 10:26Speaker 1: we were.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Pumped and yeah, anyway, so yes, we're through and playing
- 10:31Speaker 4: a team that we haven't beaten yet this season, but
- 10:34Speaker 4: apparently both of our losses were.
- 10:36Speaker 3: By just two points, so we can do it. I'm excited.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So you were up in the sunshine on the weekend though.
- 10:42Speaker 3: It was absolutely magic.
- 10:43Speaker 4: We went up to flew up to Harvey Bay and
- 10:46Speaker 4: then the fam drove past and picked us up because
- 10:49Speaker 4: they came from the Gold Coast, and then we went
- 10:50Speaker 4: a little bit further north. But it was beautiful and
- 10:53Speaker 4: it was warm in the ocean, swimming magic.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And then all I kept seeing was these big potholes
- 10:59Speaker 3: that showing up in.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Sydney and all this rain and all the sport being canceled,
- 11:04Speaker 4: and it was depressing. But we had some beautiful family time.
- 11:07Speaker 4: The weather was mint and yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw
- 11:10Speaker 4: how depressing it was here week Saturday, Saturday, Sundays.
- 11:14Speaker 1: The weekend was up. But actually it was really annoying
- 11:15Speaker 1: because for this weekend I had no kids sports. So
- 11:18Speaker 1: at my son's school, they flogged them with sport. At
- 11:21Speaker 1: this school, like they have to go and watch a
- 11:24Speaker 1: full day of rugby in the rugby season. So this
- 11:27Speaker 1: is the week between winter sport and summer sport. They've
- 11:30Speaker 1: got a weekend off the borders can go home or
- 11:32Speaker 1: just get out of there or whatever. So we didn't
- 11:34Speaker 1: have sport for him. Obviously, we didn't have sport for
- 11:37Speaker 1: her because netball was we were bundled out, bundled out
- 11:40Speaker 1: in last place, and all I wanted was these weeks
- 11:44Speaker 1: and weeks of hideous rain that we've had, these dark
- 11:47Speaker 1: mornings when you have to get out of bed and
- 11:48Speaker 1: get moving. All I wanted was for it to rain
- 11:51Speaker 1: on Saturday morning, buddy blue sky.
- 11:53Speaker 4: All the time, and then you felt like you had
- 11:55Speaker 4: to get up because you didn't want to waste it.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Oh, Eventually I battled, I battled through sunshine coming through
- 12:01Speaker 1: the window and still read the paper in bed with
- 12:02Speaker 1: a coffee. I know, thank you, very brave.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Nothing but a trooper. Hey, can I tell you what happened?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Though?
- 12:07Speaker 4: When I did get home, I picked my car up
- 12:09Speaker 4: at the airport, and I discovered something that made me
- 12:12Speaker 4: unreasonably irate, to the point that I thought.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Why is this annoying me so badly?
- 12:19Speaker 4: Like? Is that a pre perimenopausal thing? Or why would
- 12:23Speaker 4: such such a tiny thing piss me off? But I'm
- 12:25Speaker 4: going to ask you about yours, if anything like that's
- 12:27Speaker 4: happened to you. So I park my car at Park
- 12:31Speaker 4: and Fly, So you drop your car off, they park
- 12:33Speaker 4: it for you, and then you come back and they
- 12:35Speaker 4: tell you where it is and you go and get
- 12:36Speaker 4: it in the car, pap. Anyway, I got in my
- 12:38Speaker 4: car and they had adjusted all of my settings, like
- 12:41Speaker 4: my car seat was right forward, all of my mirrors
- 12:44Speaker 4: were changed.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That was me.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I went into a fit, the swearing that came out
- 12:49Speaker 4: of my mouth because I had to move my seat
- 12:52Speaker 4: back and adjust my mirrors, and I thought, what is
- 12:55Speaker 4: wrong with me?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Does that ever happen wrong with you? I don't know
- 12:59Speaker 2: you what if they didn't adjust all that and they
- 13:02Speaker 2: drove your car into a wall because I was a
- 13:04Speaker 2: short person who couldn't see.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Trying to remind myself at the time when I was
- 13:09Speaker 3: going to this fit of rage that somebody had adjusted me.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It's so funny, isn't it When you just get triggered
- 13:15Speaker 1: by something and it's like, this is entirely unreasonable all
- 13:20Speaker 1: the time. And this is funny because we rarely do
- 13:23Speaker 1: any prep for this podcast. All there's a peak behind
- 13:26Speaker 1: the curtain. But Kat said it's a note last night
- 13:29Speaker 1: saying have it think about things that make you unreasonably irate?
- 13:32Speaker 1: And I've been thinking about it, and this morning I'm
- 13:35Speaker 1: with my family over breakfast, and I said, I'm just
- 13:39Speaker 1: trying to think of things that make me unreasonably irate,
- 13:42Speaker 1: and they all loaded in on me this would have this.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So my daughter reminded me, I really dislike her very
- 13:51Speaker 1: large water bottle. It just it annoys me so much,
- 13:55Speaker 1: this giant water bottle of her. And my husband pointed
- 13:59Speaker 1: out that I have a bit of an issue with
- 14:01Speaker 1: the settings on the range hood if someone puts it
- 14:04Speaker 1: on the wrong setting. But it's like they're just all
- 14:08Speaker 1: piling in on these things. And I pointed out to
- 14:11Speaker 1: them that what I was looking for were things that
- 14:13Speaker 1: I would get unreasonably irate about. All of those things
- 14:17Speaker 1: it's perfectly legitimate for me to get irate about.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But how's that like that?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Obviously it was just the floodgates open. It was like
- 14:23Speaker 1: a therapy session. Thank god, we can tell her what what.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Because it's bigger than you do. You feel like.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Kids walking around with these like six liters of water
- 14:35Speaker 1: in it. It's like we're not, like, what what's happened
- 14:38Speaker 1: to us as a species that we can't go fifteen
- 14:41Speaker 1: minutes without without water? Now, it's hydration is important, but yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 1: it's so. And it's just I don't think she's even
- 14:49Speaker 1: drinking that much water. She's just curting this bloody thing around.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Oh remember when we were kids, you just drink out
- 14:56Speaker 2: of taps, Yes days, weren't they. Someone you bike past
- 15:01Speaker 2: someone's house, Oh there's a hose, I need to drink
- 15:03Speaker 2: or drink out of the hose. Well.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I remember doing sport in primary school in Queensland and
- 15:08Speaker 1: we had this day and it was just you know,
- 15:10Speaker 1: it was it was Queensland in summer. It was stinking
- 15:13Speaker 1: hot and the teachers just said no, you can't stop
- 15:15Speaker 1: for a drink at the moment. And it was like, okay,
- 15:17Speaker 1: this is actually really hot now. So I think about
- 15:20Speaker 1: upon that and think, if that's the day I remember,
- 15:23Speaker 1: they were probably a bit irresponsible actually, like if the
- 15:27Speaker 1: children are saying we're thirsty, because trying to get my
- 15:30Speaker 1: kids to actually drink water is very difficult, trying to
- 15:33Speaker 1: get my daughter to carry around this bloody frank green thing.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It's a frank green yeah, yeah, there it is around
- 15:41Speaker 4: the bottom of it.
- 15:42Speaker 1: But there's all of the frank green knockoffs too, And
- 15:45Speaker 1: it's like, we have more water bottles in this house now,
- 15:49Speaker 1: we will be well past the apocalypse. We'll be fine
- 15:52Speaker 1: for water bottles.
- 15:53Speaker 4: You notice the car cup holders don't cater for the
- 15:56Speaker 4: dirty big Frank.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Green drink bottles either.
- 15:58Speaker 1: No, a tragedy.
- 16:02Speaker 2: We've gone away from Frank Green's. They're not robust enough.
- 16:04Speaker 2: They bust. I don't know if my kids are overly
- 16:07Speaker 2: rough with their water bottles. But we've moved to the yetties.
- 16:11Speaker 2: They stand up a bit better.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we have in the house too.
- 16:15Speaker 4: You're for Elizabeth unreasonable mate. Please tell me because I'm
- 16:18Speaker 4: feel like a bit of a crazy.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so funny because when I wasn't. You will
- 16:22Speaker 2: appreciate this, Catherine. When I was an athlete, I was
- 16:25Speaker 2: all about perfectionism training, Like I wanted perfection in training
- 16:28Speaker 2: and the game and like dotting your eyes and crossing
- 16:30Speaker 2: your t's. But my husband, the meat tray, his quest
- 16:33Speaker 2: for perfectionism in the house kills me. Does my head
- 16:36Speaker 2: in like the dishwasher has to be done perfectly. When
- 16:38Speaker 2: he hangs out clothes. He hangs out the undies with
- 16:41Speaker 2: two pegs per pair of underpants, and it gets cross
- 16:44Speaker 2: at me when I use a single peg. I'm like, dude,
- 16:47Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. Oh he goes. I can feel it
- 16:49Speaker 2: when I wear them.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Had delicate little.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Exactly my god, mate, they're not that tender anyway. The
- 17:04Speaker 2: thing that really annoys me. I was thinking about this, Catherine,
- 17:06Speaker 2: so thank you for the heads up. I hate it
- 17:09Speaker 2: when people hold their cutlery incorrectly, and I hate seeing
- 17:12Speaker 2: people use their fork as like a scooper. Your fork
- 17:15Speaker 2: should be prongs down when you eat. And I caught
- 17:18Speaker 2: my daughter using prongs up yesterday and I was like, no, no, no, no, no,
- 17:23Speaker 2: you're not eating that chicken prongs up like its prongs down.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Do it? And when I see people, it's all I
- 17:29Speaker 2: can do to not go and say put your prongs down.
- 17:31Speaker 2: But I think that would.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Be weird question when you have your eating properly, I
- 17:35Speaker 4: agree with you, it's meant to be prongs down if
- 17:37Speaker 4: you then scoop and put it in the other hand,
- 17:39Speaker 4: put your knife down.
- 17:41Speaker 3: What that allowed?
- 17:42Speaker 2: No? No, not allowed?
- 17:44Speaker 3: Well, because it's not.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Like you're not like that, you're kind of you're doing
- 17:48Speaker 4: it properly, and then you just put one down and just.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Doing a different sound effect when you're doing it with
- 17:53Speaker 1: the different hand doesn't actually make it.
- 17:54Speaker 3: It does.
- 17:55Speaker 4: It looks much more priven. I'll give you an example
- 17:57Speaker 4: later and you can tell me.
- 17:58Speaker 2: No, but I hold my cutloring the opposite hand, so
- 18:01Speaker 2: I never I would never think to swap anyway. No,
- 18:04Speaker 2: you just can't wait.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Do you always have your cutlery in opposite hands? You
- 18:09Speaker 1: have your force in the right Yes.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And it's funny because are you kidding?
- 18:12Speaker 3: How do I not know this about you?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Do you not notice?
- 18:16Speaker 1: So I can't believe you have a fork in your
- 18:19Speaker 1: right hand and you're not in your left hand? And
- 18:23Speaker 1: funny because so differently about this podcast?
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well I know, and so I set the table wrong,
- 18:29Speaker 2: and whenever I set the table, I set it for
- 18:31Speaker 2: me and no one else.
- 18:32Speaker 3: So you're kissing everybody else totally.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Maybe that should be the question, what are the things
- 18:38Speaker 2: that I do that piss other people off?
- 18:39Speaker 1: No, I don't know that.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Apparently they love that.
- 18:43Speaker 1: That's the best day apart from Christmas days when you
- 18:45Speaker 1: get to.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Pile on to your mother. No, but I think so.
- 18:50Speaker 2: My mum's left handed, and so someone said to me,
- 18:53Speaker 2: I do think that's like, that's your left handedness coming
- 18:56Speaker 2: out because your mum's left handed. And I actually think
- 18:58Speaker 2: it was because when I was a kid, I have
- 19:00Speaker 2: this vague memory of wanting to be different. So I
- 19:02Speaker 2: watched what everyone did with their knife and fork and
- 19:04Speaker 2: swapped it and just baked myself eat the other way.
- 19:07Speaker 4: So wait, what does kath Ellis do then? Like, it's
- 19:09Speaker 4: not because it's a certain way.
- 19:12Speaker 2: No, she it's like a normal human. Mummy, Mummy, it's
- 19:14Speaker 2: like a normal human. She's left handed, but she it's
- 19:16Speaker 2: like normal human. It's mean, it's abnormal.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Gob Smacked that I did not know this about you.
- 19:21Speaker 4: How many meals would we have had together over the years.
- 19:23Speaker 2: A fancy restaurant's castine now with prongs down?
- 19:26Speaker 3: How do you not notably shocked? Wow? Wow, there you go.
- 19:32Speaker 3: I was today years old. Everybody, Yeah, as a surprise
- 19:36Speaker 3: that I have picked that up.
- 19:38Speaker 1: So what about this? This one is is actually this
- 19:41Speaker 1: is a test. The toilet roll paper over the top
- 19:46Speaker 1: or under?
- 19:47Speaker 2: What?
- 19:48Speaker 3: All day? It comes to you that way? If you
- 19:51Speaker 3: go over, it goes down to the ground. I want
- 19:54Speaker 3: to delivered.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I'm with you, Carol, and it's over, thank you.
- 19:57Speaker 1: So I will I try not to get to you
- 20:00Speaker 1: wound up about this, but if like if I go
- 20:02Speaker 1: to your house and I see that it's under, I
- 20:05Speaker 1: will assume that you want me to fix that for you,
- 20:08Speaker 1: and I will I won't tell you that I've done
- 20:13Speaker 1: this beautiful thing.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I would notice.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Funny, Mum and Dad are the same, so anytime and
- 20:20Speaker 4: my sister actually anytime I go and visit there.
- 20:22Speaker 3: But I would never change.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It, really, yeah, why not?
- 20:26Speaker 3: Because it doesn't annoy me unreasonably.
- 20:28Speaker 4: It's not one of those ones that will do my
- 20:29Speaker 4: head in there you go, what about scrunching or folding?
- 20:33Speaker 3: Then once you get your toilt paper off the wrong way?
- 20:35Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been asked that before. I think
- 20:38Speaker 1: I think I have different strokes for different strokes.
- 20:44Speaker 3: As long as there's no hole in the paper, you
- 20:46Speaker 3: don't want it.
- 20:47Speaker 2: On your finger.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Okay, oh wow, we cover all the good topics on
- 20:50Speaker 4: no Dribble. We we haven't.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But Liz, one thing I was thinking about when you
- 20:57Speaker 1: were talking about how unwell you were this morning and
- 21:00Speaker 1: joining us is there's a movie called Bad Mums. Have
- 21:02Speaker 1: you seen that one? Chris Bell is in it, and
- 21:06Speaker 1: she's got this bit and I relate so hard to this.
- 21:08Speaker 1: She's got a lot of young kids, and she said,
- 21:10Speaker 1: sometimes I just wish I could have a small accident,
- 21:14Speaker 1: not life threatening, but just enough that I have to
- 21:16Speaker 1: go to hospital, just for a couple.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Of days, for a bit of a break.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And it's like I would love that so much, like
- 21:23Speaker 1: I had. I had both my babies at the north
- 21:25Speaker 1: Shore Private Hospital and like that room was nice, but
- 21:28Speaker 1: I was in no shape to really enjoy, you know,
- 21:31Speaker 1: just you're so exhausted and whatever. And it's like I'd
- 21:34Speaker 1: love to go back there for a couple of days. Now.
- 21:37Speaker 4: The good thing is at least I mean, you get
- 21:38Speaker 4: away a lot, don't you, Lise. But when you're going away,
- 21:41Speaker 4: your flat shat doing other things. So it's not like
- 21:43Speaker 4: it's any kind of downtime, is it.
- 21:45Speaker 2: No. And I although when I first moved up here
- 21:48Speaker 2: and I was traveling, I was having a wings to
- 21:50Speaker 2: a woman who I met who had three little kids,
- 21:53Speaker 2: and I say, I've got to travel so much. It's
- 21:55Speaker 2: such a pain. She goes, hang on, when you travel,
- 21:58Speaker 2: do you get a room a motel? Just saying night yep?
- 22:02Speaker 2: Do you get a motel room yep? By yourself?
- 22:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 2: She was like oh, And I thought, you know what,
- 22:08Speaker 2: I just have to totally adjust my attitude, stop winging
- 22:11Speaker 2: and start appreciating the other.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Thing I do when I get to a hotel room
- 22:14Speaker 3: it's it's not like the sleep.
- 22:16Speaker 4: But I'll have a very long shower, just an uninterrupted
- 22:21Speaker 4: long shower, not worrying about, you know, over steaming your
- 22:24Speaker 4: own bathroom at home or anything like that. Just love
- 22:28Speaker 4: it and I'll have lots of them while I'm away.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Weird.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I don't think it's weird. I think it's nice to
- 22:35Speaker 1: be able to settle into your space.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Funny. Can I tell you on the weekend while I
- 22:55Speaker 2: was in Sydney, I did catch up with Briani Akle
- 22:57Speaker 2: for a meal and she looks like she's been through
- 22:59Speaker 2: a wheat storm, saying that, can you imagine trying to
- 23:04Speaker 2: put your team together and talk to athletes and figure
- 23:07Speaker 2: out what's happening. So I just gave a big hargan,
- 23:10Speaker 2: pulled the red.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and spare thought too for like the player managers,
- 23:14Speaker 4: because one of our girlfriends, Meghan Anderson, is doing that
- 23:17Speaker 4: now and it's been like that's hectic too, Like trying
- 23:20Speaker 4: to find teams for your athletes and you know, waiting
- 23:24Speaker 4: to see what decisions are made before you can go to.
- 23:26Speaker 3: That clob or go to that club or what's available.
- 23:28Speaker 3: That would be very very stressful. But I mean good
- 23:31Speaker 3: to see it's all done and dusted. Now.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got to say though, and I haven't. I haven't.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It's not a conversation with the chair of Netball Australia.
- 23:38Speaker 1: This is just me absolute conjecture. I reckon, they're going
- 23:42Speaker 1: to have to change the rules on the number of internationals.
- 23:44Speaker 1: What have we got eight or nine? Kiwis now it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: like that is we have a lot of internationals. So anyway, I.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Must say, though I do love there's a couple of
- 23:55Speaker 4: our Aussies that are back home. So Gabbie Sinclair was
- 23:58Speaker 4: signed the last signing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning and
- 24:01Speaker 4: she'll be a great pick up obviously losing stuff for
- 24:03Speaker 4: it well. And Danell Wallam back of course for the
- 24:06Speaker 4: Sunshine Coast Lightning as well. So it's great to see
- 24:09Speaker 4: so many of the Aussies, well not so many, but
- 24:11Speaker 4: it's good to see the Aussies back where they belong,
- 24:14Speaker 4: not having a team, not finding.
- 24:15Speaker 3: A space to fit.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Now they've just got to wait for those ebbs and
- 24:18Speaker 4: flows and spots to open. And I can't wait to
- 24:20Speaker 4: see what they do next year.
- 24:22Speaker 1: And when I say they have to change the number
- 24:24Speaker 1: of internationals, I guess the question has to be asked
- 24:27Speaker 1: is is you know do we need to change this?
- 24:29Speaker 1: Because I'm not. Yeah, I must say I'm shocked at
- 24:32Speaker 1: the number of kiwis that we have. I'm excited. I
- 24:35Speaker 1: think it's going to be a bloody great season of netball,
- 24:37Speaker 1: but I do think there are implications for it, and
- 24:39Speaker 1: I guess that that's something that the owners of the
- 24:42Speaker 1: competition will have to be considering, is that you know
- 24:44Speaker 1: how to use it for its best service to Australian network.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Are you genuinely shocked though, because obviously they aren't. That's
- 24:51Speaker 4: why they've had in place that rule for so long,
- 24:54Speaker 4: because I meanwhile, they not want to be over here
- 24:56Speaker 4: playing the best camp in the league. I feel for
- 24:58Speaker 4: them because their comp is going to really suffer. But
- 25:01Speaker 4: you're right there, like on the flip side, how lucky
- 25:03Speaker 4: are we?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah? We are? And look, as you know, I'm in
- 25:07Speaker 1: New Zealand. I'm a New Zealand born Australian and I'll
- 25:09Speaker 1: always support Australia against New Zealand, but New Zealand against
- 25:12Speaker 1: anyone else. But I was really interested to see in
- 25:14Speaker 1: a bunch of other netball groups on Facebook over the
- 25:17Speaker 1: last couple of weeks Ke was getting really cocky, going, yeah, yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 1: our girls are coming over here. It's like, I don't
- 25:22Speaker 1: think you understand this is not a great thing for
- 25:25Speaker 1: New Zealand netball, like it's a great thing for Australian netball.
- 25:28Speaker 2: But anyway, I think the flip side is, yeah, there's
- 25:31Speaker 2: a heap of the Silver fans that have come over,
- 25:33Speaker 2: but there's still sixty Australians playing in the camp now.
- 25:36Speaker 2: It would be great to have more teams and more
- 25:38Speaker 2: positions so that more young players have that and that's
- 25:41Speaker 2: something that I think the sport will look at going forward.
- 25:45Speaker 2: But the other thing is that it gives Like when
- 25:47Speaker 2: Grace Weeky came and played in that Constellation Cup last year,
- 25:51Speaker 2: she took everyone by surprise, not themost by surprise because
- 25:55Speaker 2: they would have been looking at video and they would
- 25:56Speaker 2: have seen her. But there's something different to actually doing
- 25:58Speaker 2: your analysis and then playing on Now we've had every
- 26:02Speaker 2: Australian Diamonds defender playing against her a couple of times
- 26:05Speaker 2: through the season, so you know.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And they worked out well.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, she's a brilliant player and she's
- 26:14Speaker 2: really she looks like she'd be really difficult to play against,
- 26:17Speaker 2: but now they've got a sense of what works and
- 26:19Speaker 2: what doesn't. So when you meet her, like you see
- 26:22Speaker 2: you play the Kiwi's at the end of your World
- 26:24Speaker 2: Cup in the semifinals or the finals or the come
- 26:27Speaker 2: Wealth Games, and sometimes, like I used to find, it
- 26:30Speaker 2: would take me thirty minutes to go right, Okay, this
- 26:32Speaker 2: is what I've got to do, whereas having played against
- 26:35Speaker 2: these players and the domestic we'll get the Diamonds, will
- 26:38Speaker 2: get there and go okay, this is what I know
- 26:40Speaker 2: that she does and they've had a good look at it.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I mean conversely, the Silver Ferns players will also have
- 26:45Speaker 2: had that and I just think it's great for world netball.
- 26:48Speaker 2: But let's not forget. And I think it was I
- 26:49Speaker 2: think it was Daryl, our friend Daryl who did the stats,
- 26:52Speaker 2: and there's something like there's lots of internationals, but you
- 26:56Speaker 2: know there's still seventy five percent of the competition that
- 26:59Speaker 2: are Australian.
- 27:00Speaker 4: I think this is an absolute master stroke from Noline
- 27:03Speaker 4: Tadua because she knows you get one player over here,
- 27:07Speaker 4: then the pressure is suddenly on Netbull New Zealand to
- 27:10Speaker 4: allow it because they can't play internationally. Without Grace, they can't.
- 27:14Speaker 4: It's a fact they would. I mean, they're slipping down
- 27:16Speaker 4: the rankings as it is. They're missing out on World
- 27:20Speaker 4: Cup finals, they're missing out of Comnwalth Games finals. England
- 27:23Speaker 4: so much stronger, Jamaica so much stronger, all from playing
- 27:26Speaker 4: in the best competition in the world. New Zealand had
- 27:29Speaker 4: to be in it to compete on the world stage,
- 27:31Speaker 4: I reckon otherwise they're going to go out the back door.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So this has been a master stroke I think from her.
- 27:38Speaker 4: And whilst it was Grace that made the decision, I
- 27:41Speaker 4: think she was very much behind the scenes in potentially
- 27:45Speaker 4: encouraging it for her to be a better player, but
- 27:48Speaker 4: maybe even knowing what that was going to do down
- 27:50Speaker 4: the track. But the New Zealand, as you say, is
- 27:53Speaker 4: like it's definitely going to be easier for the Australians,
- 27:55Speaker 4: but New Zealand netball I think will take massive steps
- 27:58Speaker 4: forward off the back of a one or two years
- 28:01Speaker 4: of their players here, which is.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Good for world network.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Great, great for world network.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and so you have to decide what the purpose
- 28:09Speaker 2: of super netball is. Is it to develop diamonds. In
- 28:11Speaker 2: that case, you don't have any imports or is it
- 28:13Speaker 2: to be the best league in the world with the
- 28:14Speaker 2: best players. In that case, it's unlimited, like it's almost
- 28:18Speaker 2: like you have one or the other. Anyways, it's a
- 28:20Speaker 2: I don't know what the answer is, and it's there's
- 28:22Speaker 2: no ruder wrong, and everyone's got opinions. But I think
- 28:24Speaker 2: it's great that our sport is having these really interesting
- 28:27Speaker 2: conversations out loud, because we should pull it apart and
- 28:31Speaker 2: look at it and say, well, what's the purpose and
- 28:33Speaker 2: why are we investing in this and what are we doing?
- 28:34Speaker 2: And then that allows you to get to a competition
- 28:36Speaker 2: that serves a purpose that you want.
- 28:38Speaker 1: But also you know, it's not one or the other,
- 28:41Speaker 1: is that this is not a binary thing. It's not
- 28:42Speaker 1: like the world's best comp or developed diamonds. Well, you
- 28:45Speaker 1: develop diamonds in the world's best comp so so absolutely
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's probably the next tier of players who, you know,
- 28:53Speaker 1: the ones who are diamonds aspirants who may not ever
- 28:56Speaker 1: get there. They're the ones who might suffer from this.
- 28:59Speaker 1: But this is not a this is not at the
- 29:02Speaker 1: expense of the diamonds, no.
- 29:04Speaker 4: But the good thing about that is there are other
- 29:06Speaker 4: leagues that they can go and play in for that
- 29:07Speaker 4: experience which we've just spoken about, like Gabby Sinclair leaving
- 29:10Speaker 4: the Magpies going to the UK, haven't a great season there.
- 29:12Speaker 4: She's now got a spot back here, so I think
- 29:14Speaker 4: that's that is great.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Few vacancies in New Zealand, fair few vacancies.
- 29:19Speaker 2: In Yeah, Sophie Fawns has gone to England, right, so
- 29:23Speaker 2: she'll get a heap more court time there and that'll
- 29:25Speaker 2: only improve her game. So yeah, I just think we're
- 29:27Speaker 2: seeing the evolution of the sport and there's probably there's
- 29:30Speaker 2: always going to be difficult conversations and difficult decisions. You know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: that's you know, that's the life of the sports administrator.
- 29:36Speaker 2: You know. The example is Catherine that you gave at
- 29:38Speaker 2: the start of the podcast about that you're taking the
- 29:41Speaker 2: decision that you know your little team goes through to
- 29:43Speaker 2: the final because you beat the semi finalists twice. Right,
- 29:46Speaker 2: at every level you've got to make tough decisions and
- 29:49Speaker 2: you know, the decisions around this are the same. But
- 29:52Speaker 2: the end of the day, that's like, it's good to
- 29:54Speaker 2: talk about it.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Can we go back to the little team decision then
- 29:57Speaker 4: and the tough decisions to be made around that.
- 29:59Speaker 3: So what do you do? This is this thing.
- 30:01Speaker 4: It's been really I've been battling with decision wise, what
- 30:04Speaker 4: do you do now, because we're at the level that
- 30:06Speaker 4: you are playing finals? Do you do equal court time
- 30:10Speaker 4: or do you go for the win? As I would
- 30:13Speaker 4: always think equal court time still because we don't want
- 30:16Speaker 4: to put pressure on them yet I still want them
- 30:18Speaker 4: to enjoy it as long as possible.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I don't want people sit on the sideline.
- 30:21Speaker 4: But then I mentioned this to one of the people
- 30:23Speaker 4: at netball, like the administrators, and oh.
- 30:26Speaker 3: No, no, you got it. They've got to learn it's
- 30:28Speaker 3: about going for the win. At this point, I'm torn.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I would argue, at what have you got under.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Because I don't care if they lose. I want them
- 30:36Speaker 3: to enjoy it.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I would be going for equal court time. The
- 30:40Speaker 1: whole team got them to this point, so I think
- 30:41Speaker 1: the whole team wins or lilies is the final. I
- 30:44Speaker 1: think about the age group I've been under twelves, under thirteen's,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I think that's about the time you start to look
- 30:51Speaker 1: at well, for me anyway, that's about the time that
- 30:53Speaker 1: I would be starting to go, well, best team takes court,
- 30:57Speaker 1: but there's also well, the best team of the one
- 31:00Speaker 1: who will show up all the time for training, who
- 31:02Speaker 1: are dedicated, who understand how to play together. Like sometimes
- 31:05Speaker 1: you might get a gun player who's just you know,
- 31:07Speaker 1: swining in and it's like, well, I'm not going to
- 31:09Speaker 1: put them in on finals ahead of someone who has
- 31:12Speaker 1: been dedicated and working out. So I think it's a
- 31:14Speaker 1: fine balance, but certainly if I were you, I would
- 31:17Speaker 1: be leaning more towards Hey, girls, we all got here together.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Let's see what we can do, yea, Liz.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I agree. So I've got fourteens and we've played finals
- 31:26Speaker 2: now for a couple of years, and in the first,
- 31:28Speaker 2: our first grand final, I guarantee that everyone will get
- 31:31Speaker 2: at least a half, and we lost that Grand final,
- 31:33Speaker 2: but I think we learned more from losing that Grand
- 31:35Speaker 2: final than if we had of won. And then last
- 31:38Speaker 2: year in the semi I actually wasn't that fair with
- 31:41Speaker 2: one player, and I have regretted it all seasons. So
- 31:43Speaker 2: I've decided this year week finals week after next got
- 31:47Speaker 2: one more game. I've just decided that in finals everyone
- 31:50Speaker 2: gets a minimum of a half. So did they got
- 31:54Speaker 2: a set?
- 31:55Speaker 4: Or parents say anything when they know they didn't know,
- 31:57Speaker 4: they're incredibly fair and they were fine.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It was just me going actually, on reflection, that wasn't
- 32:02Speaker 2: fair to her because we didn't win that semi and
- 32:06Speaker 2: what has it achieved? Yeah, whereas, and I want, like
- 32:10Speaker 2: the players in our team who are really good to
- 32:12Speaker 2: understand that actually it's not just Sem that gets it there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: So they've got to sit off for a quarter and
- 32:16Speaker 2: they think that's unfair, get on and play your hard
- 32:18Speaker 2: out for the other three quarters. So there'll be players
- 32:21Speaker 2: who'll get three quarters and there'll be players who'll get
- 32:24Speaker 2: only a half, but they've all contributed to getting as there,
- 32:27Speaker 2: so they all deserve a spot. And I think at
- 32:29Speaker 2: under fourteen's you're at that age where you know, that's
- 32:32Speaker 2: where girls can start to drop off. So I don't
- 32:34Speaker 2: want to turn it into a cutthroat. This is all
- 32:37Speaker 2: about winning. Actually, this is all about being a team
- 32:40Speaker 2: and working together. And they all went to primary school
- 32:43Speaker 2: together and they've all gone to different high schools and
- 32:44Speaker 2: we've had a few other girls join. And I love
- 32:47Speaker 2: that netball is a different place for them to school
- 32:51Speaker 2: and it's so important, So I want them to feel valued.
- 32:54Speaker 2: So you know, even though we've got some rep players
- 32:57Speaker 2: in our team who are really good. They're not the
- 32:59Speaker 2: only ones who I've got a serence, you know. And
- 33:01Speaker 2: I've always maintained, whether you're playing for your local team
- 33:04Speaker 2: or whether you're playing for the Diamonds or in a
- 33:06Speaker 2: super Netbak Grand final, you know what you're going to
- 33:08Speaker 2: get out of your best players, right, They're they're given
- 33:11Speaker 2: the players that actually winning your finals are the players
- 33:14Speaker 2: and aren't the best players? And how close they get
- 33:15Speaker 2: to your best players? And you ain't going to get
- 33:17Speaker 2: them there if you give them the confidence to get there.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
- 33:22Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, But I appreciate I do appreciate
- 33:24Speaker 4: this a lot because it's been going back and forth
- 33:26Speaker 4: in my head about what.
- 33:28Speaker 3: To do because they all want to win.
- 33:29Speaker 4: We want to win, we want to win. I'm like, yeah,
- 33:31Speaker 4: but do you want to be sitting on the sideline
- 33:33Speaker 4: well the team wins, And I don't like that idea
- 33:36Speaker 4: at all, and much rather than get the fair run like.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Age group, Yes, I think we do.
- 33:42Speaker 1: So I found that really good because I had ten
- 33:44Speaker 1: this year, which really is it's not great because you know,
- 33:48Speaker 1: it's you've always then got people playing, you know, it's
- 33:52Speaker 1: it's just difficult to manage ten. I think nine, eight
- 33:54Speaker 1: or nine is perfect. But I started using rolling subs
- 33:58Speaker 1: and that it's less visible to the girls then who's
- 34:00Speaker 1: getting how much time and things, because they're all it's like,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you have to be ready at any time. You don't
- 34:04Speaker 1: have a quarter off. Now you're off, Now take a breather.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And actually it was I was using that in the
- 34:09Speaker 1: last couple of games and it was really good. It
- 34:11Speaker 1: sort of distracted them. It enabled me to change things
- 34:14Speaker 1: up a little bit if someone was getting tired or whatever.
- 34:18Speaker 1: But at the beginning of the season, I was like,
- 34:19Speaker 1: I'm not using rolling subs. It's not it's too hard
- 34:22Speaker 1: to yank them off without them anticipating and they don't know.
- 34:25Speaker 1: But actually what it did was create a little bit
- 34:27Speaker 1: of just a little bit of chaos for them that
- 34:30Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, you're off, and I lost track of
- 34:33Speaker 1: who got equal time, but it was about equal, but
- 34:35Speaker 1: no one could go, yeah you got this, and I
- 34:37Speaker 1: got that. Everyone got a little bit a little bit different.
- 34:41Speaker 2: You know, it's interesting. I heard Vicky Wilson interview, and
- 34:44Speaker 2: you know when she talks, you listen, right, you respect
- 34:46Speaker 2: I respect her enormously, and she doesn't like. Yeah, she
- 34:49Speaker 2: doesn't like the rolling subs because she feels like it
- 34:51Speaker 2: Sometimes a coach, you'll pull a kid off when they've
- 34:53Speaker 2: made a mistake rather than leave them out there and
- 34:55Speaker 2: let them rectifiding and get bat I absolutely agree with that,
- 34:59Speaker 2: but I will I've started to use the rolling stubs
- 35:02Speaker 2: like U caron in the last few weeks because I've
- 35:04Speaker 2: found where it's useful is rather than try and give
- 35:08Speaker 2: a player to say something to a player while she's
- 35:10Speaker 2: out on court watching where the ball's coming and I'm
- 35:12Speaker 2: listening to the coach. A few times I've said to
- 35:14Speaker 2: a kid who's on the sideline, run on, and I'll
- 35:17Speaker 2: get a player off and I'll say, right the next
- 35:19Speaker 2: two center passes, i want you to concentrate just on this,
- 35:22Speaker 2: and then I'll sud them off. And it actually allows
- 35:24Speaker 2: you to give a bit of feedback. But I think
- 35:27Speaker 2: and I did that with one plan and she goes,
- 35:29Speaker 2: I'm She came off and said, I'm so sorry I
- 35:32Speaker 2: didn't understand. I said, no, don't you be sorry. That's
- 35:34Speaker 2: on me because i didn't explain it to you properly.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Now I'm going to explain it to you properly. And
- 35:37Speaker 2: then I'm going to get you to go and execute.
- 35:39Speaker 2: And I did that and she did, and the look
- 35:41Speaker 2: on her face she was so pumped. She was like,
- 35:43Speaker 2: oh yeah, I get it. So you've got to be
- 35:44Speaker 2: careful that you're not pulling a kid off when they
- 35:46Speaker 2: make mistakes to leave them out there to rectify. But
- 35:49Speaker 2: you can pull them off to say, okay, my coaching
- 35:52Speaker 2: strategy wasn't quite right when I was trying to tell
- 35:54Speaker 2: your stuff in the middle of play, it's come. I'll
- 35:57Speaker 2: tell you this, now, go back out and do it.
- 35:58Speaker 2: And then I just left her on tex secured and
- 36:00Speaker 2: she did.
- 36:01Speaker 3: The confidence thing is so key, isn't it. At that age.
- 36:03Speaker 4: You don't want them ever to think I can't do
- 36:05Speaker 4: it or it's too hard. Had a little shooter last night.
- 36:08Speaker 4: We had match player, just at the end of the
- 36:10Speaker 4: game and these keep in mind this is under tens.
- 36:12Speaker 4: But she wasn't getting her shots in and she was
- 36:15Speaker 4: walking off and a mum said, I'll make it. Do
- 36:17Speaker 4: some practice this week, and I said to her, I
- 36:19Speaker 4: don't care if.
- 36:19Speaker 3: You miss like.
- 36:21Speaker 4: You have to practice so you come into the game
- 36:23Speaker 4: as prepared as you can be. But if you miss
- 36:26Speaker 4: your miss like there's no pressure. Don't let it get
- 36:29Speaker 4: to your head now before the game's even started. But
- 36:31Speaker 4: you've got a practice to put yourself in the best
- 36:33Speaker 4: possible position to play the game, and so you feel better,
- 36:36Speaker 4: you'll enjoy it more. Yeah exactly. But if missus happened,
- 36:39Speaker 4: it's fine, Like don't I just the thought of them
- 36:42Speaker 4: being under pressure at ten and not enjoying it really cool,
- 36:47Speaker 4: don't lie.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I also think if you pull, if you if you
- 36:51Speaker 1: rotate them off after they've made a mistake, it tells
- 36:53Speaker 1: the other girls that they should turn on that player.
- 36:56Speaker 1: And that's just one thing. It's like, I won't have
- 36:58Speaker 1: them criticizing one another, like that's that's not your job.
- 37:01Speaker 3: They out about making mistakes because they don't want to
- 37:03Speaker 3: be ready.
- 37:04Speaker 2: That's right.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, thank you guys. I appreciate that.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Good luck, And I'm sad for the other team. I
- 37:09Speaker 1: feel I feel for them. They've probably forgotten already, this
- 37:12Speaker 1: is think. So I had my crew here on Monday
- 37:14Speaker 1: night and when we would usually have netball training, and
- 37:17Speaker 1: it was of course bucketing down, so I had them
- 37:19Speaker 1: over for their their mcflurries. Yeah, it was the loudest
- 37:23Speaker 1: hour and a half of my life and I just
- 37:25Speaker 1: I just kind of let them go with it, and
- 37:27Speaker 1: so we've got wooden floors. It was it was very loud,
- 37:30Speaker 1: but you know, they there was no hint of regret
- 37:35Speaker 1: or sadness or animosity. It was just a celebration. It was.
- 37:38Speaker 1: It was really nice. I had I only had nine
- 37:40Speaker 1: out of the ten in which was shame. We had
- 37:41Speaker 1: one of the girls who couldn't make it. But it
- 37:43Speaker 1: was really nice to have them all together and to
- 37:45Speaker 1: see that, you know, if we don't make a big
- 37:47Speaker 1: deal about it, they will deal with it and move on.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So and they've they've enjoyed one another, enjoyed the season.
- 37:54Speaker 4: That's the beauty of a team sport, though, isn't it
- 37:56Speaker 4: like the things they will remember? And listen, I say
- 37:58Speaker 4: this all the time. We don't remember games. We remember
- 38:01Speaker 4: moments and experiences we did when we were traveling and
- 38:05Speaker 4: the after parties and you know that sort of stuff.
- 38:07Speaker 4: That's all it's all about. So good on you. I
- 38:09Speaker 4: love that we're doing that on Friday as well. After
- 38:12Speaker 4: the game, everyone's going back to one of the team's houses,
- 38:15Speaker 4: which will be great fun. And they're more excited about
- 38:17Speaker 4: that than the game.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that'll be fun exactly. So I did find my
- 38:20Speaker 1: Foolish Words book last week and I said I would
- 38:23Speaker 1: have a quote for an inspirational quote from Foolish Words,
- 38:26Speaker 1: the most stupid words ever spoken, and I don't another
- 38:29Speaker 1: chapter in this here is that when they go to Greece.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Oh god, that's so funny. This one's from Harry S.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Treman Us President, Always be sincere, even if you don't
- 38:44Speaker 1: mean it. Thank you, Harry. Beautiful words.
- 38:48Speaker 4: One of the good ones I heard recently was the
- 38:50Speaker 4: last thing I ever want to do is upset you.
- 38:53Speaker 3: I mean, it's not not on the list. It's just
- 38:55Speaker 3: the last thing.
- 39:07Speaker 1: So exciting news in the notriable world, obviously. So we
- 39:11Speaker 1: have talked to everybody's good friend, Simone McKennis, who has
- 39:14Speaker 1: a great inspirational quote from the season, didn't she? So
- 39:18Speaker 1: Round six Vixen's were two wins from six games, and
- 39:25Speaker 1: they asked her at the press conference, what are you
- 39:27Speaker 1: going to do? What's your coaching wisdom? And what did
- 39:29Speaker 1: she say?
- 39:30Speaker 4: She said, it feels a bit lifeless, doesn't it. Maybe
- 39:33Speaker 4: we just need to go to the pub.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Maybe we just need to go to the pub, which
- 39:37Speaker 1: I think is wonderful wisdom. So what we have done
- 39:39Speaker 1: with Simone's consent, thank you very much, is we have
- 39:42Speaker 1: commissioned a Notrible T shirt that says maybe we just
- 39:45Speaker 1: need to go to the pub, no dribble, And we
- 39:48Speaker 1: will be selling these for a very limited period between
- 39:51Speaker 1: the first and the fifteenth of September via the noodrible
- 39:55Speaker 1: dot com dot au website, the Nodrible merchlink, very limited time,
- 39:59Speaker 1: and five dollars from the sale of every single one
- 40:01Speaker 1: of these items of me our pub crawl No, we'll
- 40:05Speaker 1: go to the Confident Girls Foundation. And we don't have
- 40:08Speaker 1: the pub t shirt in children's sizes because we are responsible, right,
- 40:13Speaker 1: So yeah, but there's.
- 40:14Speaker 3: A what are you wear?
- 40:18Speaker 1: This is small, It is small women's and this is
- 40:21Speaker 1: the boxy T shirt and I would say it runs
- 40:23Speaker 1: a little bit small, so size up a little bit.
- 40:25Speaker 1: But we'll have a whole range of them. We'll also
- 40:27Speaker 1: have some training tank tops and so you might want
- 40:30Speaker 1: to get those for you a summer netball team to
- 40:32Speaker 1: train in or But yeah, thanks Simone for letting us
- 40:36Speaker 1: use your incredible words of wisdom and inspiration there.
- 40:41Speaker 2: And so the money is going to the Excuse me,
- 40:43Speaker 2: I'm getting right to the end of my voice. What
- 40:46Speaker 2: a shame I have to speak for a living. But anyway,
- 40:50Speaker 2: the Confident Girls Foundation is the foundation that's owned by
- 40:53Speaker 2: Netball Australia and it basically allows funding to be put
- 40:57Speaker 2: towards girls to help them get on the court. So
- 41:00Speaker 2: it's funded communities have been hit by flooding, bushfires and
- 41:03Speaker 2: all that sort of stuff. So it's a really great
- 41:05Speaker 2: foundation that goes back into netball.
- 41:07Speaker 1: So get on board with that one. So first to
- 41:09Speaker 1: the fifteenth of September, absolutely limited season. These will be
- 41:13Speaker 1: available and they're nice Somentha Capital Yeah, three color, three
- 41:18Speaker 1: color print there. So yeah, our general line of merch
- 41:21Speaker 1: is still available obviously through the website there. Thanks to
- 41:24Speaker 1: everyone who's inviting their friends to join the Facebook group,
- 41:26Speaker 1: make sure they know how to listen to the podcast
- 41:28Speaker 1: because obviously, you know, it's not just the foolish words
- 41:31Speaker 1: wisdom that we drop here every week. There is incredible
- 41:34Speaker 1: wisdom to share. Tune in each week to find out
- 41:37Speaker 1: what job Darryl has to do. Darryl Milton a great
- 41:41Speaker 1: friend of the podcast and best bridesmaid I never had.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And my question for the week, dribblets, please give us
- 41:47Speaker 1: answers on this on the Facebook group.
- 41:50Speaker 4: So.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I work with a comedian by the name of Becky Umbas.
- 41:52Speaker 1: She's a KeyWe She's very funny and she's got a funny,
- 41:54Speaker 1: little squeaky voice. And she was talking about her spirit
- 41:57Speaker 1: animal the other day and she said her spirit animal
- 41:59Speaker 1: is the seagull. And yeah, if you hear her voice,
- 42:03Speaker 1: that makes perfect sense.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Oh okay.
- 42:05Speaker 1: So I was thinking that we should consider what would
- 42:08Speaker 1: be the spirit animal for each of us.
- 42:11Speaker 3: So I know one of mine already, giraffe.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Oh no, that makes sense.
- 42:19Speaker 1: What would one of yours be?
- 42:20Speaker 2: Well?
- 42:21Speaker 3: Last week it was a sloth?
- 42:23Speaker 1: Was it nice?
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:24Speaker 1: Very good. Do you have three toes?
- 42:27Speaker 3: I do, but there's another two.
- 42:28Speaker 1: There's another two as well. Okay, so you relaxed on
- 42:32Speaker 1: the beach.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 42:34Speaker 1: So I thought it would be like interesting for us
- 42:37Speaker 1: to reflect on it. But I would actually love to
- 42:38Speaker 1: hear from the dribblers what they think our spirit animal
- 42:41Speaker 1: would be. And I predict that Lizes will be flattering,
- 42:44Speaker 1: that they'll suggest quite flattering spirit animals for her. But
- 42:48Speaker 1: you and I can get absolutely hammered on this. I'm
- 42:52Speaker 1: here for it all.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Bring it.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go Dribblers.
- 42:55Speaker 2: So I do feel though that the people who know
- 42:57Speaker 2: me well will not be flattering, like I'd be like
- 43:01Speaker 2: a spirit animal who's really annoying, just a pest.
- 43:07Speaker 3: So many people are going to say whal after hearing
- 43:09Speaker 3: you the last couple.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Of well, that's what made me think about this, and
- 43:13Speaker 1: then listening to Becky's bit there. So yeah, so please
- 43:17Speaker 1: get around that. Let us know, and we will obviously
- 43:19Speaker 1: be reading out the nominations and this could be as
- 43:23Speaker 1: much of an election as our No Drible Hottest one hundred,
- 43:26Speaker 1: which there is Hottest Australian one hundred songs from No
- 43:29Speaker 1: Dribble If there is a Spotify playlist on that, if
- 43:32Speaker 1: you want to get around that one sounds great. Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 3: Are we going to rap because I'm busting to other tools?
- 43:37Speaker 1: Yeah? We should rap. I just I can't believe I
- 43:40Speaker 1: haven't talked about this though. I'm concerned about the Swifts
- 43:44Speaker 1: and the super Shot, but anyway, I'm sure Briany has
- 43:47Speaker 1: everything under control. I'm less concerned about Page going on
- 43:50Speaker 1: maternity leave than I am about Sophie Fawn's leaving. Okay,
- 43:53Speaker 1: time to we all right, and no correspondence will be
- 43:57Speaker 1: entered into at this time. All right, drib let's have
- 43:59Speaker 1: a Liz is going to go and have a little
- 44:02Speaker 1: hot toddy or something something to soothe the throat. Are
- 44:07Speaker 1: you able to spend the day in bed today or
- 44:10Speaker 1: or even just not talking. I'm going to hold drinks word.
- 44:13Speaker 3: On this out as I'm doing the weed Ben card.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Sit still and I love that this is the longest
- 44:21Speaker 4: outro you've ever done.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Anyway, just I'm cass.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Have a great week everyone. I'll let these two wrap up.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Have a great week, and I never get to do this.
- 44:36Speaker 1: I'm last time, Caroline Swindle, Thanks dribblers, have a great week. Bye.
