- 2:31of course, is the co chair of the State Republican Party. I'm
- 2:36not exactly sure what it was, but there was something that Tony Hotts said
- 2:39that Mike Pushkin didn't take too kindly too. So Pushkin sent me at Tacks

- 3:05camdet Patrick Morrissey, Good morning, Sarah, how are you. Good morning,
- 3:08Dave. It's good to be with you today. A lot going on
- 3:12and I appreciate everything you're doing. Thank you for being here. We'll get
- 3:15to the campaign a little bit later on, but I want to talk about
- 3:19We want to talk about drugs, as your office frequently does and quite frankly
- 3:23served with good results. You've joined another multi state coalition, this time twenty
- 3:30three states I think it was, are involved in a letter urging the US
- 3:35Senate to immediately pass something called the Halt Fetnel Act. Now what exactly other
- 3:42is that, other than what the name implies breaking down for US? Yeah,
- 3:45absolutely so. I think many people are listening. They know that fetnel
- 3:49has been highly destructive here in West Virginia, in particular, because you have
- 3:53the base ingredients. They frequently come from China, they get shipped to the
- 3:58Mexican drug cartels. They package the products together, and they come in either
- 4:02through the ports of entry or sometimes between the ports of entry, and West
- 4:08Virginia pays a very heavy price for it. Number one in the nation in
- 4:12terms of fetnyl overdose depths, and obviously between the ages of eighteen and forty
- 4:16six, this has been devastating our country, the number one cause of death
- 4:21for our young people. That's got to stop. So that's part of the
- 4:26reason why I've been signing on and generating a lot of ideas to push back
- 4:30against the fetnyl menace that's killing on slaughtering our citizens. So we called for
- 4:36fetnyl to be listed as a weapon of mass destruction because we think that would
- 4:41provide additional tools to help block fentanyl. And I also called recently on the
- 4:47US Senate to pass that hall Feentnel Act. And what that does. That
- 4:53legislation is going to permanently schedule all the current and future fetnel analogs, kind
- 4:58of the derivatives Schedule one drugs, which really lets people know this is a
- 5:02serious issue. There's no real medical use for all those analogs. And the
- 5:09House of Representatives path that bill with an overwhelming bipartisan majority, and I think
- 5:15our coalition of Attorneys general is hoping the Senate's going to do the same because
- 5:19we have to give our law enforcement those additional tools to fight back against fanel.
- 5:25There needs to be more prosecutions. I think we have good US attorneys
- 5:29here in West Virginia, but they need a lot more help from the federal
- 5:32government and they need those tools. This is just going to be another one
- 5:36of them. And as you said, this is a bipartisan effort, is
- 5:40it right? Yeah? It is. I mean this has been a big
- 5:43bipartisan effort, a path in the House, in a big bipartisan vote.
- 5:46That's certainly important, and I think when it comes to the drug fight,
- 5:50they should be. You know, I want to commend all of the delegates
- 5:54and the senators and the counties and cities. They had just supported the big
- 6:00structure we created to house all the settlement funds. You know, Dave,
- 6:04what was the last time you heard something that has the potential would be so
- 6:08controversial, supported by every county, by every city, by every delegate,
- 6:13every senator, and the governor. Yeah. Well, the structure to deal
- 6:16with the settlement funds and attack that drug problem holistically was done that way,
- 6:23and I'm excited about it. We need to be aggressive in dealing with us
- 6:27to ensure another generation doesn't fall prey to senseless staff. Talking to Attorney General
- 6:32and gubernatorial candidate Patrick Morrissey here on five eighty five. It's nine to fourteen.
- 6:36I want to switch here and talk about charter schools, sir. Earlier
- 6:40this month, the State Supreme Court, and we actually talked about this a
- 6:44few weeks back on the show. The State Supreme Court decided to say no
- 6:48to a preliminary injunction that was issued by a circuit court, as I understand
- 6:55it here in Kanawha County against the law which gave the Professional Charter School Board
- 7:00the power to authorize charter schools all over the state. Now this gets a
- 7:03little in the weeds here, ag as I understand, and correct me if
- 7:08I'm wrong. You were saying that state leaders, meaning the Senate President,
- 7:13Speaker, the House, and so on and so forth, we're not the
- 7:15proper parties to be named in this preliminary injunction. Now, I'm not a
- 7:20lawyer, sir, you are, so explain what all that means. Absolutely
- 7:25So. This is actually a good example of some of the nonsense that we
- 7:29see when people file suits. I think it wastes taxpayer money. But for
- 7:33those listening and thinking about filing suits in the future, it's always important to
- 7:40think through separation of powers. We have the judicial branch, we have the
- 7:44executive branch, we have the legislative branch. Once something leaves the legislative branch,
- 7:48traditionally and it goes to the executive branch, and maybe it's the governor
- 7:54that's in charge of it in any given day, could be the attorney general,
- 7:57it could be the treasurer, or it could be the charter school board.
- 8:01Once that happens, you can't just name the legislators who might have voted
- 8:05for a bill, because in most circumstances they're irrelevant to the process. That's
- 8:11the legislative branch, that's not the executive branch. And so here we had
- 8:15a situation where people were naming the wrong parties, and we thought it was
- 8:20a really basic case because it really was about separation of powers. And the
- 8:24Supreme Court, of course, agreed that you don't sue these legislative leaders when
- 8:31you're dealing with issues involving the executive branch, and just because people think that
- 8:35it's unconstitutional, you actually have to get your pleadings right. And so we're
- 8:41hopeful that this is another example and when people start thinking about their frivolous cases,
- 8:48that they could say, oh, we have to do it right because
- 8:50we waste so much time defending stuff that, quite frankly, is so basic.
- 8:56And I know our record is really good on this, but you know,
- 9:00there seems to be a mountain of money on the other side that,
- 9:01regardless of the merits of it, these becauys just want to file suits and
- 9:07slow everything down. Just take the time, do it the right way.
- 9:11If it's a meritorious claim, then of course the court's going to hear it,
- 9:15they're going to make a decision. But the legislative branch is different to
- 9:18the executive branch, indeed, and it becomes a big waste of taxpayer of
- 9:24money, you know, along the way as well, Speaking of the courts,
- 9:26Um, you've been busy in the courts since the last time you're on
- 9:31so or another case I was reading about and you had your office joining with
- 9:35other attorneys general in several other states in a case and it had to do
- 9:41with meetings being held about gender identity, he said with a question mark.
- 9:50So, so, basically, as I understand this, what happened in another
- 9:54state and you signed on to this. There were some meetings, there were
- 9:58some educational effici that had meetings with a student, a public school student,
- 10:03as I understand it, talking about options that this student could undergo as it
- 10:09comes to gender identity, and their parents were shut out of these. Is
- 10:15that correct? Yeah, that is correct. And by the way, let
- 10:16me go back one just on the other case for just a moment. The
- 10:20other point, and I didn't mention earlier, but it's really important is that
- 10:24the governor, because these guys focused and went after the governor in that case,
- 10:28and he doesn't control the actions of that board, that charter school board,
- 10:33and so that was a big part of the question as well about the
- 10:35governor's authority to call an election and what the governor's power was. So I
- 10:41wanted to picture I mention that. But going back to this case, Look,
- 10:46we look all the time when parents' rights are being trampled, and we
- 10:52have learned that there was allegedly secret meetings that these schools were being that were
- 10:58being held about the gender identity of the kids. Now, I'm a big
- 11:03believer that if you're a child, that your parents need to be able to
- 11:09know what's going on, and the schools shouldn't just be able to have meetings
- 11:13in secret and talk about things without informing the parents. I mean, after
- 11:18all, we live in America, and individual students are eligible to become I
- 11:24mean, they become Americans and they start to begin to gain their their rights
- 11:30as they get older and older. But when they're so young that, you
- 11:35know, the parents need to play a prominent role of that, and I
- 11:37think that's critical. And when I hear of situations like that, and this
- 11:41is something we obviously join related to Florida, I want to step up and
- 11:48make sure that parents' rights are really emphasized. And that's certainly what we're doing.
- 11:54To me, it's clear that the parents possess what a child lacks,
- 12:00since some of the maturity and experience and the capacity for judgment. And I
- 12:05think that it's important that across the country parents' rights continue to be asserted.
- 12:11It's nine to nineteen. I want to switch gears, sir, and now
- 12:15let's talking. Let's wrap it up, but talking about the campaign. Of
- 12:18course, you are a candidate for governor, and I'm sure what the fourth
- 12:20of July holiday coming up you and the other candidates we outed about. What
- 12:26are your plans are going into the summer, and what are you telling perspective
- 12:30voters who may be on the fence about which Republican to support come next spring.
- 12:35And because let's face it, there there are a lot of you out
- 12:37there. So what's what's the campaign look like ahead, you know, going
- 12:41into the summer. Now that the summer is here and fourth of July,
- 12:43and what are you saying to people? Absolutely well, first of all,
- 12:46Dave, we're going to be out in force, and I think that's beginning
- 12:50July. First, we're going to be down in Logan County and we have
- 12:56some events, and then we'll be out heading out to the eastern Panhand on
- 13:00the second of July, and then we have some events I think in Mason.
- 13:05Then we'll be in Alderson, and then we'll be up I believe in
- 13:11Ripley and some of the other places on the fourth. So it's going to
- 13:13be an incredibly hectic time and that's good and I'm excited to get out and
- 13:18have a chance to have good conversations with people. And what I tell folks
- 13:22is that this race is very straightforward. There may be some good people,
- 13:26there may be some good positions they're serving, but there's no other candidate who
- 13:31is the proven conservative with elector of results. You can look at everyone and
- 13:35they're going to articulate conservative positions. But there's no other candidate who's worked on
- 13:41every big issue and one and move the needles substantially protecting our jobs, not
- 13:46just the fights against the EPA where they're trying to shut down all of our
- 13:50energy jobs, but the big waters of the United States rule where they're trying
- 13:54to label your backyard ditch and you're a femeral stream, I'll regulate it like
- 14:00the Potomac, the Ohio, the Mississippi, kind of nonsensical things. We
- 14:05stood up, we fight, We protected jobs, educational attainment, we stood
- 14:09up, and we've been able to prevail and win defending charter schools, defending
- 14:13the Hope scholarship and school choice. When it comes to our values, conservative,
- 14:18the proven conservative for our Second Amendment rights. So all of these issues
- 14:22and the ones that really will matter to move the state forward, to address
- 14:28the workforce participation issues, drive educational attainment, build up the infrastructure we need.
- 14:33We've worked on. We've been wildly successful at Not one other candidate can
- 14:39say that they just don't have the same kind of experience and they're not a
- 14:43proven conservative. They may be nice folks, and I'm not going to make
- 14:48this personal because I don't think that's what this campaign's all about. But experience
- 14:52and being a proven conservative with a track record matters. That's what our state
- 14:58needs right now. That's why I say that we're getting so much support and
- 15:03we're going to just keep going and asking everyone. If you have questions,
- 15:05you can go to our website at Patrick Morrissey dot com. Learn a little
- 15:09bit more about our campaign and you'll have a chance to see people. Probably
- 15:15next year there'll be some debates. You're gonna see people live and in person,
- 15:18and I think the differences are going to be clear for folks that have
- 15:22worked in the arena and one big for our state versus other people that you
- 15:28know may be fine, but this is just not a position that they're ready
- 15:31to fill right now. Toorney General Patrick Morrissey, is always a pleasure to
- 15:35have you on the show, Sir. We'll talk again soon. Best to
- 15:37luck to you, and I said we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot,

- 19:48texts tonight. He's a popular man. He does, he does. He
- 19:52elicits response as we say, so, all right, so you're an old
- 19:56guy, as m I a little. I'm a little older than you.
- 19:59What is about what is it about our age? I'll let the last statement
- 20:03go. What is it about our age that makes you wake up as I
- 20:06did this morning for no good reason, not being able to move my neck.
- 20:10I don't do anything physical and I wake up this morning and I cannot
- 20:14move my neck. Well that might be I think you have the key rate
- 20:17there because you don't do anything physical. Yeah, maybe if you moved your
- 20:19neck more often, it wouldn't stepping up on you. Ah, maybe you
- 20:25need a better pillow. Maybe you should call Mike Lindell. But my pillow
- 20:29deck, I'm good. I don't need to call Mike Lindell. Seriously,
- 20:33before we get into politics, I want to get your feelings on the whole
- 20:34bob hugging situation, and I want to get your take on it for a
- 20:37couple of reasons. Mike. Number one, you're a w VU guy.
- 20:41Number Two, I know you're a huge sports guy, and although you do
- 20:45have a tendency to share for sometimes the wrong professional teams. And Third and
- 20:49I hope and I feel confident I'm not getting too personal here, but but
- 20:53you've been very upfront about some of your battles with addictions and problems in the
- 20:57past, something that I respect you for more than you will ever know.
- 21:02Um. All that having been said, coach Huggins arrested in Pittsburgh for duy
- 21:04a Friday night. We talked about it all week, copies, talked about
- 21:07it. He resigned over the weekend. Your thoughts on the whole situation.
- 21:11Oh, well, that's not what I expected to talk about. Well,
- 21:14we're going on a sports show. But I can handle that. I am
- 21:17a huge sports lifelong I mean, I was a WFEW fan for birth.
- 21:23I was born into you know, the two WFU uh alums as my parents
- 21:29and um uh so yeah, and I'm I'm a big and I'm a fan
- 21:33of Huggins. I mean he's been He's brought a lot of a lot of
- 21:36winning to the program, and he's really put our program on the map.
- 21:40And and like you said, yeah, I don't, I don't, you
- 21:41know, shout it from the rooftops. I don't talk about it publicly too
- 21:45much. But yeah, I'm awesome, but I'm not ashamed of it.
- 21:48I'm actually proud of it. I am a person in long term recovery.
- 21:51Um so, and this is and and that is what this issue is about.
- 21:56And I can just say that, you know, left untreated, Uh,
- 22:00the disease doesn't just get better and it's progressed. It doesn't stay the
- 22:03same either. It progresses, it gets worse. And so when I see
- 22:07you know, the comments of like, well what was he thinking? You
- 22:10know, that was poor judgment, It's like, well, if you're exercising
- 22:12poor judgment, you probably don't have a problem. I mean it's people who
- 22:17suffered from addiction and alcoholism. Uh, well, we exercise poor judgment when
- 22:22when we're in when we're in it, when we're in active addiction, and
- 22:26um, we don't wait around for the most opportune times to really screw up.
- 22:32So yeah, coming out on you know what a month after he was
- 22:36almost lost his job for doing an interview that he was definitely not prepared for.
- 22:41Who knows what he was doing, you know, prior to the interview,
- 22:45and if you listen to the interview, it was just ridiculous at a
- 22:48really poor attempt at at you know, locker room humor, and he and
- 22:52he and he ticked off a lot of people. He offended a lot of
- 22:55people, and he was given another chance, and then he screwed up again.
- 23:00And uh, I think he his blood alcohol level was like nearly three
- 23:04times the legal limit. Yeah, uh so, yeah, he needs to
- 23:08Uh. I hope that he finds the help that he needs. But I
- 23:12also think that you know, it's not a The disease doesn't just affect one
- 23:17aspect of your life, so it would have to. I mean, it
- 23:21affect It affects everything, and not just your judgment, not just but um,
- 23:26but put this up. I think that you know, the program is
- 23:30going to be okay. I hope that he's okay. I hope he finds
- 23:33the help that he needs, and I hope we find it a great coach
- 23:36who can devote their entire attention, uh to building a building on what he's
- 23:41already built on and and on a willing winning basketball program. But you know
- 23:45what, they're more important things in life than basketball. Yeah, I would,
- 23:48I would agree, And when I had Jim workmanon will move on.
- 23:51But from while he Whippy's earlier this week, you know, he talked about
- 23:55the people that immediately said, Okay, who's the next basketball And that's what
- 23:56sports fans do, that's what we do. You know, we're all about
- 24:00the next game. But this is this is not a sports story. This
- 24:03there's there's a whole lot more to it than that one other thing. And
- 24:06I mean I can definitely, I definitely have empathy for him, Uh definitely
- 24:08do. But I hope and I think a lot of people do because he's
- 24:11beloved in this state. You know, I hope we can show that same
- 24:15empathy to other folks who suffer from the disease of alcoholism, disease of addiction,
- 24:21who don't happen to you know, make four million dollars. Yeah,
- 24:25I agree that don't happen to just win basketball games, but a lot you
- 24:29know, we need to show that that type of empathy to you know,
- 24:30all of our neighbors. I brought to you a part by Generations Physical Therapy
- 24:34seven convenient locations along I sixty four and they're hiring from with Lights into technically
- 24:38green staff from Information to visit generations pt dot com. All right, so
- 24:44I have Tony hod John, vice chair of the State Republican Party, on
- 24:48Tuesday's show. It was Tuesday, Tuesday, yesterday. I get a text
- 24:52from you. I think it was early yesterday when you said I'd like to
- 24:53be able, or maybe it was TUESDAYSPIDS when it was going on. Okay,
- 24:56well it was later in the day, so but but but you text
- 24:59me it regard listen. You said, can I go on? And I
- 25:02can? Can I respond to to Tony Hodge What exactly is the problem here,
- 25:06Michael, what's the problem. Yeah, I don't mean I don't have
- 25:08a problem. I just like coming on the show. First of all,
- 25:11I think what it was. I think on that day I was listening live
- 25:14and actually I was out running on the boulevard. For some reason, I
- 25:18decided to listen to your show. Maybe it's because of the feelings that it
- 25:22gives me when I hear such misinformation and and uh, you know, just
- 25:26mischaracteration, mischaracterization said, it's it's easy. I mean, it's it's it's
- 25:33a nice way of saying lies. But maybe when I hear that, you
- 25:37know, it brings something out in me that makes me want to train harder.
- 25:40Maybe that's why I listened to you when I was when I was running.
- 25:42Now he brought up, like, you know, something on on Twitter
- 25:45that, uh, you know, I responded to him just I don't know
- 25:49what. He kind of attributed some sort of motive to it. Now I'll
- 25:52tell you what the motive was. Tony seems to be very obsessed lately with
- 25:57tweeting um about people who have a different sexual orientation or gender identity than he
- 26:06does. Seems to be really fixated on it, like an unhealthy fixation.
- 26:11I'm not sure you know what's what that's about. That's and that's fine,
- 26:15that's for him to to figure out on his own. But there was one
- 26:18tweet in particular that I responded to because I felt it was really dangerous rhetoric.
- 26:23And it's not a new tactic, but what he was doing, he
- 26:26was attributing this like false power to a group that doesn't have that kind of
- 26:30power, a group that has historically been marginalized, and he attributed them with
- 26:37this power. And then in the second part of the tweet say they're trying
- 26:40to take your rights from you, they're trying to silence you, and that's
- 26:44Um. We've seen that type of rhetoric before in history, and it's dangerous
- 26:48when you falsely attribute power to a group that has never had it and then
- 26:55make them the scapegoat. It's dangerous. And I feel that if you have
- 26:59a position of power, you're the you know, the second in charge over
- 27:03at the West Virginia GOP. Um, be more responsible with your words.
- 27:07I mean, that's really dangerous rhetoric. But I mean, as the as
- 27:14the co head of the of the particular party, would you not isn't that
- 27:18his job is to do? That is to is to state the other side
- 27:22or what the party or what the party belief is. Isn't that what his
- 27:26job is? Well, I don't know if it's really I mean he's bringing
- 27:30up conservative policy or talking about legislation. It was. It was, um,
- 27:36what I would consider dangerous rhetoric. Like I said, when you say
- 27:40this group over here who has been kicked around for years, Okay, yeah,
- 27:45I mean back when we were growing up, growing up and still now
- 27:48people were getting beat up for that. Okay, they have been marginalized,
- 27:52there is no question about that. And then to say, hey, they're
- 27:56actually the ones in charge and they're taking your rights from you, that's as
- 28:00rhetoric. So I felt that I would exercise my free speech and respond to
- 28:03them. Okay, I did, and you did and I did. So
- 28:07are you done? Now? Can you leave? Now? I'm kidding,
- 28:08I'm kidding, all right. So that having been said, the governor got
- 28:12an extension for his Senate campaign financial documentation. Brad's got a story posted on
- 28:18the online the campaign. Now Mike has until August twenty fourth to file a
- 28:22report that's following this ninety day extension. And we've reported on this and it's
- 28:26on the front page of the paper for this morning. An order came down
- 28:29tuesday from US District Court for the Western District of Virginia that coal companies run
- 28:33by the Justice family have to pay more than four hundred thousand dollars off.
- 28:37Now, when you hear these type stories, and they've dominated the news,
- 28:41really Mike ever since Governor Justice became Governor Justice, and even before that,
- 28:45about his issues with finances be at his personal or family business. Now possibly
- 28:51campaign as someone who sits on the other side of the aisle. Your thoughts
- 28:56when you hear all these things, Well, I think that we need to
- 29:00be transparent. There's a reason why we fill out uh these um uh financial
- 29:04disclosure forms to the Ethics Commission, and then everybody puts your name on the
- 29:11ballot, and anybody in public office, it needs to be very public about
- 29:15first of all, where their income comes from, and who they owe money
- 29:18to, who they haven't paid, uh and things of that nature, because
- 29:25just to show that there isn't even a uh you know, uh a conflict
- 29:33of interest. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, Well, there was
- 29:36a big fundraiser last night for the governor in DC. I understand, I'm
- 29:38taking it you weren't invited. Um well, no, I wasn't. In
- 29:44they had one in my district. I wasn't invited to that. Well imagine
- 29:47that. Yeah, well I wasn't either. If that means anything to you,
- 29:51uh, well, they know you work in radio. Is that that?
- 29:52Well, I'm I'm a member of the media now. But which,
- 29:56by the way, I hate that. I mean they're probably going after some
- 30:00people that can you know, poor to pay the ten thousand dollars match and
- 30:03I haven't have no money, but I wasn't. I was a part of
- 30:07the situation. So there was an editorial I think it was this morning in
- 30:11the gazette about Alex Mooney, you know, is I guess making some noise
- 30:15about the governor and all of his problems. And they kind of talked about
- 30:18this kind of the pot calling the kettle black hair with Mooney and his ethics
- 30:22problems, calling out the governor with his problems. I agree. I think
- 30:26both of the candidates, well there's more than two, but the two top
- 30:30candidates that are running for Senate on the Republican side are very flawed candidates,
- 30:36and both of them have shown that they have. They both had their issues.
- 30:38Whether it's you know, Mooney that is under investigation for misuse of his
- 30:44campaign funds, is find you know, campaign funds money that's meant to be
- 30:48used for his campaign and being used for Chick fil A or family vacations,
- 30:55uh and their you know, ongoing investigation of that, or the fact that,
- 30:59um, you know, Governor Justice doesn't like to pay his debts,
- 31:00whether it's vendors that his companies working with, whether it's uh, you know,
- 31:04paying off fines that they have accrued over the years, or whether it's
- 31:08paying his taxes and also doesn't really like showing up for work. And every
- 31:15single aspect of state government is a reflection of that, whether it's our our
- 31:21jails and our prisons that have been at crisis level for now for a year
- 31:26and nothing's being done about it, nothing at all where a dangerous but it's
- 31:30dangerous for the people who work there, it's dangerous for the people who are
- 31:33who are incarcerated there, and it's dangerous for everybody because it's when when you
- 31:38have that sort of situation, it sometimes influences the sentencing of sometimes dangerous criminals
- 31:44who maybe aren't getting incarcerated because there's no place to put them. It's a
- 31:48dangerous situation. Or you know, or the DHHR that the legislature has had
- 31:52to split up into three departments because it was such a mess, which which
- 31:56affects everything. When you have over seven thousand children in the foster care system,
- 32:01Uh, we had we don't have enough teachers in our classrooms. Um,
- 32:06you know, we've heard I've been getting uh you know, letters from
- 32:09engineers who are leaving the Department of Highways in droves because of the of the
- 32:15toxic environment over there, it's like, not a single aspect of our state
- 32:19government is working the way it should be right now. It's because the boss
- 32:22doesn't show up for work. So yeah, I'd say we have two very
- 32:24flawed candidates on the Republican side for that US Senate race. Go back to
- 32:29twenty sixteen for a moment when Jim Justice was a Democrat. You were not
- 32:34in the Justice camp? Is that right? In twenty sixteen. I mean,
- 32:37I know you supported him because he was the nominee, but initially were
- 32:39you in the gym Justice camp? I did. I did not vote for
- 32:43him in the primary. And that's okay, Okay, well that's fine,
- 32:45and that's and that's kind of I mean, you know, I will support
- 32:47our party's nominee, but he was not my choice in the prim But I
- 32:52mean, here's the thing I don't I don't get about Governor Justice. Okay,
- 32:55A lot of people and I don't mean this to be I'm just gonna
- 32:59state what it is. Is. I mean, despite all these things that
- 33:01you said, he had a he had a history or at least a perceived
- 33:05history of not paying bills. And before well before twenty sixteen, he gets
- 33:09elected, he you know, is still one of the most popular top five
- 33:15whatever poll you look at, top five, top eight governors in the entire
- 33:19country to this point. Why do you think that people look at this Mike,
- 33:22he's the He's definitely the front runner. Uh. He's blowing Alex Mooney
- 33:27away in the polls right now in the primary. Why do you think that
- 33:30is why you just don't care? The poll that you're referring to, I
- 33:34think was had an issue. It was they were polling general election vote.
- 33:38It was a poll among likely general election voters. From what I understand,
- 33:42it wasn't a poll of just Republican primary voters. Okay, I think the
- 33:45very race is much place closer than people realize, and I would not count
- 33:50Alex Mooney out. Is that an endorsement for Alex Mooney by you? It
- 33:52is far from it. Far from it. Endorishment of reality. I think
- 33:58it's going to be a much tougher I don't think people really, I don't
- 34:01think so. I don't think it will see. I mean I think and
- 34:05with the type of money that's going to be maybe there's hasn't been enough of
- 34:07a light Uh shine up, Oh, there's going to be on some of
- 34:10the front I don't know that people I don't think, I mean, they
- 34:14knew all this in twenty sixteen, they knew that moving forward through his term
- 34:19as governor. I don't think people care. I really don't. I mean,
- 34:22and then this week we see the thing with the baby Doll Baby dog
- 34:27sweepstakes. CBS News comes out through the report. Now that's kind of been
- 34:30settled. It was kind of blown out of proportion. How is it blown
- 34:32out of how is it settled? Well, what happened was was and the
- 34:36governor talked about this. What happened was was CBS News put together this story.
- 34:39Their story apparently was more based on the inflated prices of the vehicles that
- 34:45were given out as opposed to what the governor did. There's no wrongdoing,
- 34:49they're not. I mean, well I think that. I mean, that's
- 34:51what the investigations about. They're paying too much for these vehicles. Well,
- 34:54who are they paying and how do they choose which dealerships are getting more than
- 35:00and the market value of these vehicles. So people, and that's public funds
- 35:04and it wasn't meant for a sweepstake. So that was COVID relief money that
- 35:07was from the first batch of money the Cares Act that came down uh to
- 35:12you know, help businesses that were struggling due to COVID, not just car
- 35:15dealers, but all businesses that were struggling due to COVID. It was about
- 35:19helping people. It was about helping our state. And the governor didn't do
- 35:23anything with it for way too long, and they decide he's going to spend
- 35:27it by having this baby dog sweepstake. Oh look, we all love the
- 35:30dog. I love dogs. Okay, every Friday I tune in listened about
- 35:35the dogs that are the adopt me please pay. Yeah, I think it's
- 35:37great, and I'm all for dogs. You know what, adopt, don't
- 35:40shop. However, however, the baby dogs, how did they choose the
- 35:46car dealers who were getting overpaid for these vehicles? And then you know,
- 35:52when when somebody wins one of the vehicles, they're gonna have to pay the
- 35:57inflated taxes on it because of what it put them in a bad situation.
- 36:00But I think that's what they're looking at, is why, you know,
- 36:04how are these how are these car dealers chosen? And why was the state
- 36:08using public funds, taxpayer money to give money to car dealers that were way
- 36:14higher than the value of the At the end of the day, it had
- 36:15very little impact on the vaccine rates anyway, if you remember, that's what
- 36:20it was supposed to be about. And there's no there's no way to quantify
- 36:23whether it actually helped or not. Hey, we're only I mean if if
- 36:25you're just barely you know, if you just look at he's maybe it was
- 36:29just a way to give some money to some of the governor's friends. Nine

- 39:52texture, and I appreciate your lifetime of being a Democrat. And I'm saying
- 39:58just to say to stick with the party for the same reason you've always been
- 40:02a Democrat. We still stand for the same things. I mean, it's
- 40:05about, uh, if you get sick, you should be able to see
- 40:07a doctor. You know, you put in your hours of works, should
- 40:10be able to make enough money to feed your family, and you should have
- 40:14a reasonable expectation of being safe on the work site. We should have good
- 40:19schools, great schools for that are free for all of our children. That's
- 40:22the education is the great equalizer. You know. We've always been the party
- 40:25that's cared about these things. We're the party that brought Medicaid, Medicare,
- 40:30social Security, take care of people when they're when they're done working. We've
- 40:35always been the party that's looked out you know, for the for the for
- 40:38the for the working people. And I mean to sum it up, I
- 40:43think it was I spent the last week, up part of last week up
- 40:45in Minnesota for stuff with the Democratic Party, and that's the home of the
- 40:50late Paul Wellstone. I think he said it best. You know, we
- 40:52all do better when we all do better, and that really sums up with
- 40:57with the core values of the Democratic Party. Well, basically, we're the
- 41:01party that gives a crap, So stick with us, man. I appreciate
- 41:05you, and I know it's been rough lately, but we're going to keep
- 41:08fighting and things have a way of turning around and the truth always comes out.
- 41:13Text says Dave, You're absolutely right. Republicans and the majority of voters
- 41:16in West Virginia, as you said, just don't care and that ladies and
- 41:20gentlemen is the problem in the states. Tex says, the trans community is
- 41:24the most politically and socially protected class there is. And no, that's not
- 41:29just dangerous rhetoric. What is dangerous? How about this? Virginia parents can
- 41:32face a felony or misdemeanor charge if they do not affirm their child's sexual orientation
- 41:37and general identity or An Ohio judge removed a biological girl from her parents custody
- 41:42after they decline to help her transition to mail with testosterone supplements as an adult,
- 41:46do you, as an adult, do what you want but leave kids
- 41:50alone? For decades, scientists have said the brain is not fully developed until
- 41:52the age twenty five, so using their science, no child under eighteen can
- 41:57mentally, emotionally, or psychologically grasp the consequences of choosing their gender. It
- 42:02sounds like somebody uh is watching a lot of a different news for you know,
- 42:08last night, I decided to flip around from different news channels and just
- 42:12to see what different different news channels we're talking about. And it's like night
- 42:15and day. It's like we live in two completely different realities and and you
- 42:19know what, I know, neither of them are really the reality. But
- 42:22the beginning of that statement saying that the trans community is the most protected uh
- 42:27class, well that's just uh, that's just not true. They're they're not
- 42:30a protected class in West Virginia by law. They're uh, you know,
- 42:35the LGBTQ are not a protected class legally in West Virginia. Uh. Yet
- 42:39they've often been the victims of violence and the victims of hate crimes, and
- 42:45we don't have hate crime legislation that protects them West Virginia. So no,
- 42:49they're the least protected class. You could be protected. You're protected, you
- 42:53know, race, religion, political parties, um, those are all protected
- 42:58classes LGBTQ. He is not a protected class in West Virginia, Texas.
- 43:01The voters of West Virginia should care more about who they elect, but you're
- 43:05correct, they don't seem to care. What a shame, Texas. The
- 43:08only reason Jim Justice is deadbeat is because he's running for Senate. It is
- 43:12a political witch hunt of biblical proportions. I think he was a deadbeat long
- 43:16before he ever even desided to run for governor. This is not new Texas.
- 43:22Justice is not liked around the states. He's corrupt. He needs everything
- 43:24he owns taken away an auction to pay off creditors. Texas says, sorry,
- 43:30Mikey, the Democratic Party has been hijacked my radicals. Well, I'm
- 43:35the chair in West Virginia. Far from a radical, I think. I
- 43:37mean, I'll tell you when I see some of the legislation, some of
- 43:42the rhetoric that comes from the right right now of people who are actually intellected
- 43:45office, sounds pretty radical to me. When they're up there fighting against an
- 43:52investment. I mean, there were a bunch of them who are fighting against
- 43:54investment that was coming, you know, because of the Inflation Reduction Act.
- 43:59Let's not let's nothing, you know, make any bones about it, because
- 44:01of the Inflation Reduction Act that has put historic investment in West Virginia in new
- 44:08types of energy jobs. And they were fighting at tooth and nail, you
- 44:13know, calling like the form energy. I think they referred to it as
- 44:15woke batteries. A battery can't be woke or unwoke. Batteries aren't political.
- 44:21A battery is that way to store energy. And you know what it was,
- 44:23it was going into a facility that has been empty for years and to
- 44:28provide jobs for people all over that part of the state. To me,
- 44:31that's radical sitting there and fighting economic development because really because you're afraid it might
- 44:37bring new people to the state who will realize you have no business being in
- 44:40office in the first place. That's what they're really against it. It's it's
- 44:45clear to see which side is radical. Texas people are profusely bleeding away for
- 44:50the Democratic Party, especially since Pushkin became the party head. I don't think
- 44:53that's that's a fair statement in my opinion. I think they may have been
- 44:57leaving well before you ever got here. They're upset with the vice of wedge
- 45:00issues as the Democratic Party coccority to a text. We're not the ones that
- 45:05are bringing them up all the time. We're not going to bring it up.
- 45:08If you look, if you if you want to, you know,
- 45:10flip around on the news channels and you'll see who's always talking about these these
- 45:15perceived threats and issues that are just meant to divide people and get people anger
- 45:20at each other and feel fearful of each other. And you know what,
- 45:23Fear is a great motivator, and it's been used for years to get people,
- 45:28in my opinion, to vote against their best interest. You know,
- 45:30it doesn't work for Democrats. We can't do that. Fear doesn't drive people
- 45:35to vote for a party that cares about working people. It doesn't drive you
- 45:39to vote for a party that wants to protect your medicade, your Medicare,
- 45:43social Security. It doesn't drive you to vote for a party that wants to
- 45:47give teachers a decent salary so we can retain and attract new teachers and have
- 45:52great public schools in the state. Fear doesn't do that, just common sense
- 45:54and logic. Unfortunately, there's not enough of that going around now. In

- 49:10agree with mister Pushkin, the state GEOP has an unnatural fixation on the LGBTQ
- 49:16plus and women's productive issues. Yeah, you know, I you know,
- 49:22over the years, as I've campaigned, I try to get out too many
- 49:24as events as possible, make myself available to do not just voters, but
- 49:30to anybody in the district or outside the district even and you knocked on doors,
- 49:35and it's not an issue that really people are bringing up a lot.
- 49:37You know. They want jobs, they want good roads, they want they
- 49:42want to feel safe, they want good schools for their kids. That's the
- 49:45number one I don't hear about a lot of wedge issues when I'm out talking
- 49:49to people. I think that it's something that is gend up by the right
- 49:52because I said, fear is a great motivator. When you get people afraid
- 49:54of each other, angry at each other, sometimes it gets them to go
- 49:59against you know, just logic and reason and vote for things that don't really
- 50:02benefit them. Tex says they're not bringing them up. Question Mark, l
- 50:06ol. June is pride month, Mike is tone deaf. I mean it's
- 50:12there's all sorts of different months that honor different heritages and different groups. And
- 50:15I think that there's you know, that's fine. We should all be okay
- 50:20with that. It's just fine. Texas. Just remember every infrastructure and economic
- 50:23development property project rather currently occurring in West Virginia and for the next eight years
- 50:29is because of Democrats. Dark Brandon rises and lifts all into prosperity Texas.
- 50:35And you wonder why so many people, including myself, have left the Democratic
- 50:37Party and are leaving in droves. Look at how nasty, snide and rudely
- 50:42you talk about people you don't agree with and have the gall to lecture the
- 50:44rest of us, and how tolerant you are, how accepting you are,
- 50:47Mike. I think of myself a fairly accepted I like Tony and we went
- 50:52out and had tacos together. I just disagree with them, and I think
- 50:54he's got paid. You know, I think we went Dutch. Okay,
- 51:00all right, pretty sure. I think that we all Texas day. The
- 51:02reason we still have a Democratic party here. Going to say this is because
- 51:06of people like Mike Pushkin's one of only a handful of people and politics who
- 51:09actually speaks to truth to power, regardless of the consequences. Very refreshing and
- 51:14an overly conservative states text says Dems are bringing jobs to the state, not
- 51:20false promises like China's eighty billion dollars investment, two cracker plants, Ammo plants,
- 51:24etc. Etc. Well, used to be a democratic state, Mikes's
- 51:29texture Obviously, the people in our states see right through. What has happened
- 51:31to the party. As an ex Democrat, I'm disgusted. And what has
- 51:35happened to the party nationwide, well nationwide with the two years that you hadn't
- 51:39has been brought up several times just in the past couple of Texters. Actually,
- 51:43when the first two years of Biden's presidency, when the Democrats had control
- 51:46of the House and the Senate, look what happened? Look what they were
- 51:49able to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Bill that Trump tried to
- 51:53pass every other week, all sorts of historic legislation that has put tons of
- 51:59investment in West Virginia. And while Republicans are quick to go grab a golden
- 52:02shovel or a big pair of scissors to show up at a ribbon cutting,
- 52:06they had absolutely nothing to do with that. Not a single one unvoted for
- 52:08it. Final text says I love Mike Pushkin and support him and the things
- 52:12he works for for West Virginia people. He's a kind, fair, amanded
- 52:15man. I hope to shake his hands someday. Thank you for what you
- 52:16do. Ten seconds, well, thank you. I'll be leaving the studio
- 52:20in a second. You can shake hands, all right. We gotta go.
- 52:22Thank you so much, Mike, and also Patrick Morrisey as well.
