- 0:00All right, Common Sense Ohio.
- 0:02Nothing seems to make Sense on this November 4, 2026.
- 0:04At least not to we us, we.
- 0:07Not to us here at Common Sense Ohio.
- 0:09But the show must go on.
- 0:11Brought to you by Harper plus Accounting.
- 0:13So in this world of turmoil, you will need your books done, you will need your records clean and you will need your taxes paid.
- 0:19I promise you, you will need your taxes paid.
- 0:22And when you need help with that, when you realize that all the breaks you've had for the last two and a half years or so, or two years or so are gone, Harper plus is your man.
- 0:31Let's jump right into it.
- 0:33This day in history, Norm.
- 0:36The United States of America opted to elect to the Senate a Marxist Sharia law extremist from Michigan.
- 0:46El said, we have put anti gun people in Congress, we have elected to proceed with socialism in this country and all the trimmings that go with that.
- 0:59That's my joke of the day, I guess.
- 1:01Yeah.
- 1:02I will say this, there's a couple interesting things that I thought were relevant on this day in 1956.
- 1:12All right.
- 1:12To you Marxists out there who think communism, it's all that.
- 1:17A spontaneous national uprising that began 12 days before in Hungary is viciously crushed by Soviet tanks on November 4, 1956.
- 1:25Thousands were killed and wounded.
- 1:26Nearly a quarter million Hungarians fled the country.
- 1:29This is the old fashioned Soviet bloc countries and they didn't like being under the jackboot of Khrushchev and the Soviets.
- 1:38So they tried to rebel, but alas, it was too late.
- 1:41What they've, you know, what they voted for, they got hard and fast, which is death, destruction and exile.
- 1:47And eventually the leader of Hungary of course was executed two years later.
- 1:53They lamented that the freedom that the Americans enjoyed, we didn't come and help them.
- 1:58Eisenhower spoke against it, but it didn't happen.
- 2:02And that's I think a telling historical reminder of what Communism has brought upon this earth.
- 2:10Whenever tried.
- 2:12So those who think they can do it better.
- 2:14Yeah,.
- 2:15Perhaps at least, at least acknowledge the history books and understand where it's gone awry in the past and offer some explanation as to why you're not going to kill millions of people.
- 2:24Yeah.
- 2:25So as opposed to the violence that's taking place in Europe right now which is pro socialist, the Hungarians were fighting for freedom.
- 2:35They were fighting against social.
- 2:38That was after, after the violence in France.
- 2:40So put this in.
- 2:41You've got the first set of violence is we want to be communists and socialists because it's awesome and utopian and we're Going get everything free,.
- 2:47Right?
- 2:47And then five years later, you realize, oh, it's not what I bargained for.
- 2:52Now we've given you all this power to tell us everything that we have to do, everything we want to do.
- 2:56We can't.
- 2:56Y.
- 2:58Norm, you want to go to college.
- 2:59I'm sorry you didn't pass the test.
- 3:01You're not a party man.
- 3:03Guess what you're going to be.
- 3:04You're going to bang nails, or you're going to be a railroad worker, or you're going to create these big cinder block apartments,.
- 3:10Right?
- 3:11You're not of college ilk.
- 3:13So therefore, you don't go because, after all, from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs,.
- 3:20Or because you're a smarty mouth on a podcast, you can just go to the Gulag.
- 3:25Yeah, well, we wouldn't survive, not here,.
- 3:28You know,.
- 3:29So.
- 3:29So,.
- 3:30Yeah, Hillary wanted to put us in concentration camps, and maybe we're a couple steps closer to that,.
- 3:36Perhaps.
- 3:38So, yeah, it was a bloodbath yesterday, no question about it.
- 3:43For.
- 3:44For freedom, for individual rights, for property rights.
- 3:48You know, de Tocqueville gave this famous speech to the French parliament wherein he said, socialism at its base is anti property.
- 4:02It is.
- 4:04It is.
- 4:05It.
- 4:05It denies personal freedom to live the lifestyle that you want.
- 4:14It is against your.
- 4:17Your right to own property.
- 4:19And in order to enforce that, it is naturally also anti free speech, anti free thought, and wants to naturally, at the end of the day, reduce everybody to the same level of misery.
- 4:39Yeah, you're not elevating anybody.
- 4:41You're.
- 4:41Not elevating anybody and,.
- 4:43Well, except your cronies who might be in charge.
- 4:45Well, and if you look at the, you know, human beings always want it good for themselves.
- 4:55And this is, you know, part of.
- 4:56Of what drives both ambition and, on its flip side, envy.
- 5:04Human beings want specialness for themselves.
- 5:07You know, rules for thee, but not for me.
- 5:10So you have this system of the Soviet leaders living in their deluxe DAs.
- 5:17You know, you.
- 5:18You've got the Iranian mullahs, who themselves have Swiss bank accounts and yachts and all their stuff.
- 5:26And it'll be the same way if America were to turn full Commie.
- 5:33And, you know, I think.
- 5:35I think things people don't understand or haven't really thought through is we have been socialist light for almost 100.
- 5:45I was gonna say 50 to 100 years.
- 5:46Yeah.
- 5:46I.
- 5:46Mean, certainly since the Great Society.
- 5:50Well, and I would go back, you know, to, in.
- 5:521960,.
- 5:53Woodrow Wilson even, and.
- 5:55And what he wanted to do with World Government.
- 5:58He didn't get his Lee.
- 5:59He didn't get us into the League of Nations, but he certainly was looking even.
- 6:04And.
- 6:04We're talking turn of the century, 1900.
- 6:06Ish.
- 6:06Yeah.
- 6:06I forget his exact president.
- 6:08World War I.
- 6:09Ish.
- 6:09Well, before Woodrow was what's.
- 6:11He was our World War I president.
- 6:13That's right.
- 6:13Okay.
- 6:14Yeah.
- 6:15So, you know, really.
- 6:18And a little bit like Dr.
- 6:20Biden running the White House for Joe, Mrs.
- 6:24Woodrow Wilson pretty much ran the White House when Woodrow became infirm.
- 6:31And at any rate.
- 6:32Yeah.
- 6:321913 to 1921.
- 6:34Yeah.
- 6:35Yeah.
- 6:35So.
- 6:36And by the way, he said this check and balance, these checks and balances implemented by our founders were only a burden.
- 6:47We no longer need this.
- 6:49I'm far more sophisticated now.
- 6:50So we're going to create departments and agencies.
- 6:54Departments of whatever.
- 6:56Departments of whatever.
- 6:57So those of you who are chastising Trump with his pen and his administrative power can blame Woodrow Wilson for the creation of it.
- 7:04And then later, fdr, who drove a.
- 7:08Not just a semi truck, but rather like, what was the giant.
- 7:12The Big Bertha mining machine that they use.
- 7:14Yeah.
- 7:15You know, he drove.
- 7:16You know, he destroyed it.
- 7:17Yeah.
- 7:18So, you know, the thing is, Trump has been disassembling the administrative state more so than any president in the last hundred years.
- 7:28He has basically disassembled and.
- 7:32And made useless the Department of Education, for example.
- 7:39It just.
- 7:39It no longer exists.
- 7:41And, you know, Ronald Reagan promised to get rid of the Department of Education.
- 7:46Well, Trump basically has done that.
- 7:48And the decline, I think, were somewhere around 15% fewer federal workers than when he took office.
- 7:59So, you know, you can look at Doge and some of his cost cutting as ruthless or however you want to frame it, but he has done quite a bit.
- 8:11He has been a very consequential president, unfortunately, back to our socialism light.
- 8:18Some of what Trump has also, you know, offered as gimmicks,.
- 8:24You.
- 8:24Know, like this $90 in the last couple weeks that every Social Security recipient got, you know, as some kind of statement that, hey, you got ripped off during the COVID years to an average of $90.
- 8:40So right before the election in pops 90 bucks into the bank accounts of everybody who's wired into Social Security.
- 8:48How'd that work out?
- 8:49Yeah, I mean, and then he offered, if.
- 8:52If I get, you know, a good midterm, I'm going to.
- 8:56Every adult American is going to get $5,000, you know, and.
- 9:00And you're like.
- 9:01And he.
- 9:02He called it a dividend for the tariffs.
- 9:05And you're like, how about just reduce the national debt.
- 9:09And, and then the Trump accounts where we're gonna, we're gonna jack in for kids born between this date and this other specific date.
- 9:17No other children.
- 9:18Right.
- 9:19No adults, but just kids.
- 9:21Between this finite date and that finite date, America is gonna it out of its treasury, going to dump a thousand bucks and then, and, and, and get them, get them thinking about the free market that way.
- 9:34Well, that the free market doesn't start out with taking money from everybody else.
- 9:39Right.
- 9:39It's, it's an anti.
- 9:41Lesson.
- 9:41He's giving these kids your money.
- 9:44Yeah,.
- 9:44Right.
- 9:45He's taking money from the.
- 9:46And, or ye.
- 9:47And giving it to the, or whatever.
- 9:48However you want to say it.
- 9:50It's,.
- 9:50It couldn't be more socialist.
- 9:52It couldn't be more.
- 9:52And you know, I, I've said this Trump.
- 9:56Well,.
- 9:57He's not a movement conservative.
- 9:58I don't think.
- 9:59He's not.
- 9:59He's never been an ideological conservative.
- 10:01He, he doesn't.
- 10:02He's a business guy that just operates with what's in front of him and does it.
- 10:05Yeah,.
- 10:05I think he's gotten a little better with it and studied some of the, some of the thoughts of the conservative thinkers.
- 10:11But that is not a conservative policy at all.
- 10:14In no way, shape or form.
- 10:15And.
- 10:15It didn't work.
- 10:16It didn't work.
- 10:17At the end of the day,.
- 10:18Not gonna work.
- 10:19They called BS on the whole thing.
- 10:21It's not going to work.
- 10:21And you know, other commentators I've heard have said this, and it's quite true.
- 10:26The Republicans have no business competing with the Democrats with a socialist agenda, which.
- 10:32Giveaways.
- 10:32We can't win that fight, guys.
- 10:34They're going to do more of it always.
- 10:35No, they're just, all they're going to do is take these Trump accounts and go.
- 10:39You know, that was for those kids in that bracket between this date born this date and born that date.
- 10:45And you know, they're the lucky winners of the American lottery.
- 10:49Right.
- 10:50They're just going to say, well, that was kind of unfair.
- 10:52Let's give it to everybody.
- 10:53Let's do that for everybody.
- 10:56Right.
- 10:57And let's not make it $1,000.
- 10:59Let's make it $10,000.
- 11:01And then down the road somebody will say, well, $10,000 adjusted.
- 11:05Inflation.
- 11:06Yeah.
- 11:07And.
- 11:08You're off and running, and pretty soon you're disgorging chunks of money from people who are working their ass off to, to acquire it, many of whom didn't get it from a parent who just, you know, kicked off and
- 11:21said, here, Junior, here's a Couple million bucks that I saved up and, and didn't spend.
- 11:27So now it's yours.
- 11:28Well, not everybody who has savings got it that way.
- 11:31A lot of people went without the bass boat and the big TV and the, in the remodeled kitchen and all the, and the second home, you know, down in Gatlinburg or whatever.
- 11:44People, some people as you know, Steve, because we know who, we know plenty of people like that and maybe somebody here at the table to take money from.
- 11:55People who have worked hard, all that sweat equity and just with the casual idea that well, they got it unfairly.
- 12:06Like Obama said, you didn't build that.
- 12:08You didn't build that.
- 12:10You know,.
- 12:11Government built.
- 12:11Government.
- 12:12Elon Musk,.
- 12:13The collective built.
- 12:14Collective gave you that money.
- 12:16So it's just.
- 12:18So we're going to take it back.
- 12:19I think, I think some of the lessons for me this is, and I talked about this last week, for me the big disappointment is how and this will piss off people.
- 12:32But, but I don't care.
- 12:33I'm in the business of pissing people off, I guess.
- 12:36But you know, it's time for a reality check with my fiscally conservative, my morally and ethically righteous and I don't mean that in a put down way, I mean that in a sincere way.
- 12:51People who believe in patriotism, people who, who believe in doing, treating others as they would want to be treated and believe that freedom of expression and freedom to practice religion or not religion is a basic right.
- 13:12I would say to them it is time to get off the fence.
- 13:17Half of our electorate is unaffiliated and I got a lot to say about that.
- 13:23It feels real good to sit around the bar or go to a wine party or go to, you know, sit down and have a cheeseburger with, with your buddies and say, well, I'm not a Democrat, of course, but
- 13:37I'm also not a Republican.
- 13:39I'm,.
- 13:40I'm.
- 13:40An xyz.
- 13:41Let me finish here, let me finish on this because what that does is several things.
- 13:47In our making it mechanically in our elections when you bail out because the Republican Party is not perfect and it is far from perfect.
- 13:59It is really messed up.
- 14:00But like any enterprise, when you pull out of it, you also pull out of, of your responsibility to try to make it better.
- 14:11And in our two party system, ask Ross Perot's supporters when you bail, okay, on a party and like a pouting child, decide you're going to cross party lines to show those some bitches Republicans a thing or two because
- 14:28gas prices are high, there's A war in Iran.
- 14:31And you don't like that data center making humming noises at night with its klieg lights on.
- 14:37And you're righteously and you are correctly upset about those things, that's fine.
- 14:44But when you bail out of being a party member, guess what you also bail out on.
- 14:50You do not affect the party platform.
- 14:54You will have no say because you're not at their convention.
- 14:58Number two, you will have no effect on who the candidates are to run in the general election because you don't vote in the primary as a Republican.
- 15:10So what happens is we get guys like Ramaswamy, 41 years old, has never held office.
- 15:18You get people like Amy Acton, 60 years old, has never held office.
- 15:23These are the two poor choices that we were shoved down our throats here in Ohio.
- 15:31Trump never, never should have anointed Ramaswamy as his guy 18 months before the election.
- 15:41What that did, Steve, it denied the Republicans of their vetting process.
- 15:46And that's called a primary.
- 15:47Y.
- 15:48And for the people who want to be, oh, I'm a purist, I'm a libertarian, or I'm some other kind of thing, or I'm unaffiliated.
- 15:57I'm not one of those dirty Republicans.
- 15:59All you did by not being a Republican is you allowed Donald Trump to select who are.
- 16:06Our candidate was for governor.
- 16:09There were no debates.
- 16:11We didn't really know what Ramaswamy wanted to do vis a vis data centers until around Labor Day when he invented a policy out of thin air.
- 16:20This is the failure to become engaged.
- 16:24And I'm sorry that we're only a two party country, but we are.
- 16:28That's the reality.
- 16:30Maybe we should have four or five parties that really can get elected, but we don't.
- 16:39So when you bail out of the party that you pretty much vote for, but they're imperfect.
- 16:45So I'm not going to call myself a Republican.
- 16:48I'm more comfortable that way.
- 16:50All you do is help perpetuate the shitty candidates that we get, like John Huston, terrible candidate.
- 16:59The Republicans in our state, Steve, hid from their own constituencies by not having transparent government for 40 years.
- 17:10You know, Rhodes, Voinovich, Kasich, Taft, DeWine, these guys orchestrated giveaways and gimmicks and things for industry and even labor.
- 17:25Right?
- 17:26You know, to try to buy votes and to try to solidify themselves in power.
- 17:31And they did that with things like Jobs Ohio.
- 17:35That good candidates who we never got to put into this election, like Dave Yost, he wanted to audit Jobs Ohio.
- 17:44He wanted to expose where the spending was.
- 17:48And, and the machine, the GOP machine in Ohio squeezed Dave Yost out of his chance to run for governor.
- 17:56And that's the tragedy of not being involved.
- 18:00So, Steve, one of the big lessons is we're a country of selfish babies who pout over temporary things like fuel prices because of the straight of Hormuz.
- 18:13And, and it's going to get resolved and prices will come down.
- 18:17And now we're stuck with a Democratic Senate in the, in the United States Senate at 54 to 44.
- 18:25I mean, they're going to get rid of the filibuster.
- 18:28We're stuck with a Democratic House with Hakeem Jeffries as the new speaker.
- 18:35And, and like you said, we've got this socialist Islamic nut job from Michigan, you know, and Susan Collins is gone.
- 18:46John Husted is gone.
- 18:50Texas is gone.
- 18:51Texas is gone.
- 18:52And, and John Thune, who could have passed because Mike Johnson sent him the Save America Voting Protection Act.
- 19:01Wouldn't do it.
- 19:02Three times.
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:03Wouldn't do it.
- 19:04Wouldn't get rid of the filibuster.
- 19:05You and I know the filibuster.
- 19:07It's gone, man.
- 19:08Yeah, it's gone.
- 19:09It's gone.
- 19:09It's gone.
- 19:10And.
- 19:10They're going to run roughshod.
- 19:12There's not.
- 19:12I mean, we have.
- 19:14What's it take to overcome the veto?
- 19:17Two thirds.
- 19:18Yeah,.
- 19:18They don't quite have that.
- 19:19They don't have that.
- 19:20So we've got two years of veto power,.
- 19:22But we have a lot of scared Republicans in the Senate.
- 19:24Yeah.
- 19:25Who didn't run this particular.
- 19:27You.
- 19:28Know,.
- 19:28Only a third were up for election.
- 19:30So now in two years, another third of those senators will be up.
- 19:35So, so,.
- 19:36And if, and if the Senate does something in the meantime, like in grain,.
- 19:39That's.
- 19:40Ballot harvesting, filibuster, gone.
- 19:43I mean, heck, why not just make Puerto Rico and let's see, as states.
- 19:47Right.
- 19:47Let's get, let's add four more to our side.
- 19:49And unlike, unlike what a lot of people think, the number of justices on the Supreme Court.
- 19:56That's not in the Constitution.
- 19:57No, it is not.
- 19:59The, the,.
- 19:59It's not.
- 20:00Also, it's also not clear that Congress has the ability to pack it.
- 20:03But it does say Congress can set up a system of the judiciary.
- 20:09Yeah,.
- 20:09Right.
- 20:10And under that basis, now Trump's got the, he's got the veto pen.
- 20:16Just like in, in, in the state of Ohio, we still have a Republican House and Senate.
- 20:25So they're probably not going to pass up to Governor Amy Acton a whole lot of the legislation that she wants.
- 20:33Yeah,.
- 20:33But she has the ability as the executive.
- 20:36She's going to start signing orders.
- 20:38Look, she's the one to shut us down.
- 20:39That's right.
- 20:41That's right.
- 20:42It was her choice.
- 20:43Right.
- 20:43Now, I don't think it was really her choice, but she was the one that said it was her choice.
- 20:46Yeah, DeWine claims that was my decision.
- 20:49Well.
- 20:50Well, you know what?
- 20:50She was right there as the puppet to do it.
- 20:52That's right.
- 20:53And then she.
- 20:53And then when things got tough in the middle of COVID she bailed.
- 20:57Yeah, well, look, it's very stressful.
- 20:59It's stressful.
- 21:00She needed a drink,.
- 21:02Dude.
- 21:03Right?
- 21:03We are.
- 21:04Yeah, it's.
- 21:05Things are really a mess and I'll be, I'll be honest.
- 21:08I was hoping, you know, I was in a dream world thinking that even in Minnesota, Michelle to Foya might win and she lost by 10 points.
- 21:17Yeah.
- 21:18So.
- 21:19We got.
- 21:19Look, it's.
- 21:20Steve Hilton lost his governor in California by.
- 21:24By like 30 points.
- 21:25Yeah.
- 21:26It's catastrophic.
- 21:27Catastrophic.
- 21:27So, look, America's going to get what it voted for, good and hard, as they say.
- 21:31Yep.
- 21:32And.
- 21:33Yep.
- 21:34I don't know there's much.
- 21:36The real question now is what happens in 2028?
- 21:39We've got a fractured party, as you've pointed out.
- 21:42And I.
- 21:44To your point, Norm, not picking a side is picking a side.
- 21:48Yes, it is.
- 21:49That's right.
- 21:50And the real question is, why not pick a side?
- 21:52And it's because of the pressure.
- 21:53There's so much.
- 21:54There's so much shade cast your way if you say this or you say that, and that probably goes both ways.
- 22:00So you, you, you, you claim a little virtue.
- 22:02You fly your little virtue flag like, I'm independent.
- 22:04I don't.
- 22:05I'm not a Trump guy.
- 22:06And then maybe you're secretly voting or whatever, but every time you don't advocate, every time you don't get involved, every time you say I don't care, you.
- 22:14You know, you.
- 22:16This is.
- 22:17We have to care.
- 22:18Right?
- 22:19Yeah.
- 22:19I struggle with this.
- 22:20Yesterday I actually called a friend of mine and I said, look, help me out here because, look, I have faith.
- 22:23I'm a man of faith.
- 22:24I texted you that.
- 22:25I'm a man of faith.
- 22:26Who are.
- 22:27And you know, what's our obligation in this world as we live it, as we occupy it?
- 22:33Because I think we are a little bit farcical to say God.
- 22:36God cares about these human affairs.
- 22:38And on the other hand, who are we not to say God care.
- 22:40Care about these human affairs?
- 22:41Right.
- 22:41So it's Easy to throw up your hands.
- 22:43And I'm saying this to maybe the, the Christian right.
- 22:46It's easy to throw up your hand, say God's got us.
- 22:48But I think God gives us an obligation to, to choose the right path and advocate that path.
- 22:56Yeah.
- 22:57And not stick your head in the sands behind the church only and say, well, God's got us.
- 23:01Yeah.
- 23:02I think that we have an obligation to go fight.
- 23:04Yeah.
- 23:05And.
- 23:05I don't mean fighting physically, but I mean, I mean, we are in a cultural war.
- 23:10The Islamists would take over our country tomorrow as soon as you open the borders.
- 23:15They will do it.
- 23:15And they will do it just like they've done it in Europe.
- 23:17They will do it.
- 23:18They will do it.
- 23:19They will do it.
- 23:19Yeah.
- 23:20And anybody around that says, ah, no big deal, you know, what do we care?
- 23:23We just hate Christians.
- 23:24Fair enough.
- 23:25But like you said, you've got to choose a site.
- 23:27I've had this conversation with several younger people.
- 23:30Yeah.
- 23:30Who are sort of like the Tucker Carlson is.
- 23:33Yeah.
- 23:33You know, what's wrong with, what's wrong with that?
- 23:36Sounds like a good plan.
- 23:37It's a good plan.
- 23:37Why not?
- 23:38You know, it's like, well, there's a lot wrong with it and just because.
- 23:42So you can, you can oppose that without saying you're a born again Christian for sure.
- 23:47But understand when you leave a vacuum, it's going to get filled.
- 23:51Right.
- 23:52And the evil people will fill it because they care.
- 23:56The other side always cares.
- 23:58And if you say you don't, they will.
- 24:00Yeah.
- 24:01So, okay, I have a pretty wide, you know, agnostic streak in me because I'm a doubting Thomas in some ways.
- 24:14You know, I like data, I like proof.
- 24:17Like, you know, I, I, I, I often said to my Jesuit, the theological teachers when I was in high school that the twelve apostles had it easy.
- 24:30And they go, what the hell are you talking about, Murdoch?
- 24:33Well, my goodness, they got to witness all of these miracles, including Jesus rising from the dead.
- 24:41Well, who in the hell wouldn't be a devout Christian if you were in the room when Jesus walked in after being crucified and you got to feel and touch the wounds in his hands, his feet, his side.
- 24:57Well, hell, yeah, I, I would believe in God.
- 25:00I would, I would follow Jesus.
- 25:02I, I, I might go to the Coliseum and be eaten by lions because I would be a soldier for Christ like, like nobody's ever seen, because I would have that proof of being there in person.
- 25:17And I've always kind of resented the fact that.
- 25:21Why did those people who got to witness Christ life.
- 25:27You know, we've sainted all them.
- 25:29It's a lot harder.
- 25:31Okay, sure.
- 25:32Nobody's, nobody's hunting me down, right in, in the fields, you know, nobody's coming after me like Henry VIII went after Catholics in Ireland.
- 25:41Nobody is coming after me for my faith in a physical, you know, going to chain you up and torture your way.
- 25:48But I'm also.
- 25:51All of us have to have faith that the stories of the New Testament are true.
- 25:57And so I would say to my Christian brothers and sisters that when they say, hey, Jesus has us, or God has us and things will, things will work, everything will be fine, they forget that God the Father didn't
- 26:12even.
- 26:13He wasn't there for his own son, who he permitted to be destroyed on a cross by a secular government of the Roman Empire at the behest of jealous, fearful Jewish elders of that particular sect that did not like
- 26:41Jesus while other Jews followed him and became the first Christians.
- 26:46So I would just say to them, if you think you're going to chill out and everything will be fine, go to a church sometime and look around at all those saints who got tortured for their faith.
- 26:59God did not step in and stop that, okay?
- 27:03Man is allowed to be evil.
- 27:05Our.
- 27:06Our Father in heaven permits evil.
- 27:09I mean, what the hell?
- 27:11Hitler, Stalin, IDI Amin.
- 27:14I mean, do I really, you know, do I, do I have to go down the list?
- 27:17Mao?
- 27:18I mean, there's evil, right?
- 27:21All socialists, by the way.
- 27:24All socialists.
- 27:25I mean, do we really need to go down the list?
- 27:27And if you think America could just chill, right?
- 27:31Like the Dow futures went up 800 points this morning.
- 27:34Right.
- 27:35And, and Larry Kudlow, who's an economist, he said, well, that's because the, the Wall street understands Trump has the veto pen.
- 27:47So they don't think that all this crazy stuff is going to happen in the next two years.
- 27:53I don't think it is either.
- 27:54I'm worried about the next two years.
- 27:57Six months.
- 27:57Yes, sir.
- 27:58Right.
- 27:59Yes, sir.
- 27:59Right.
- 28:00That's so like, if you just set this one out.
- 28:04And I'm a little pissed at the gun lobby, for example, you know, where the hell was the NRA here in this cycle?
- 28:10Well, as you've got Talarico in Texas saying he's in favor of a assault weapons ban.
- 28:16Yeah, right.
- 28:17Where I heard nothing in opposition.
- 28:19So everybody, everybody sat on their hands here because they're too afraid to come out and say, we support Trump.
- 28:24But you didn't.
- 28:25But to your point,.
- 28:26You didn't have.
- 28:27To.
- 28:27Wasn't him.
- 28:28That Wasn't.
- 28:29And I've been, you've seen me railing here from, for the last two years.
- 28:33Well, I just went through.
- 28:34Midterms.
- 28:34Midterms.
- 28:35Midterms.
- 28:36Midterms.
- 28:36Trump tariffs.
- 28:37Midterms.
- 28:37I get the agenda.
- 28:38Midterms.
- 28:39Don't screw up the midterms.
- 28:41And he did.
- 28:43Yeah,.
- 28:44Did.
- 28:44Yeah, he did.
- 28:45Steve, we were here supporting the idea of.
- 28:51Yes, you got to deny Iran the nuclear option because why they said they're going to use it.
- 28:59Okay.
- 29:00Right.
- 29:01They're, they're purifying nuclear materials to a weapons grade not for nuclear power.
- 29:08So I, I get what he did.
- 29:12Right, okay.
- 29:13You know, Operation whatever the hell he wants to call it.
- 29:16Okay.
- 29:17Why did we not conclude that?
- 29:19Why all this ping pong all summer?
- 29:21We have a truce, let's talk.
- 29:23We, you know, and here we are, election day Americans being very self serving, being very shortsighted, voted on gas prices to reject all of these Republicans because Trump, he said, think of me as being on the ballot.
- 29:41Well, they sure as hell did.
- 29:43They did, right?
- 29:44They did.
- 29:45And.
- 29:45They rejected.
- 29:46Him.
- 29:46And Trump sort of dismissed those concerns.
- 29:50Yes, he did.
- 29:52In real time in a way that turned people off.
- 29:55Yes, he did.
- 29:56He didn't say what you just said.
- 29:58Guys, there's going to be this short term problem, I promise you I'm going to resolve it.
- 30:01I mean, he didn't offer an explanation, he just did it.
- 30:04And.
- 30:05Yes.
- 30:06Yeah,.
- 30:07There's a backlash.
- 30:09And kept saying, oh, we're negotiating with people, they're just about to break.
- 30:13And this has been going on for nine months.
- 30:15And it's like.
- 30:16And what did we say?
- 30:17Look, you need four weeks.
- 30:19Yeah.
- 30:20Be divisive about this.
- 30:21Yeah.
- 30:21Get in there, get it done,.
- 30:23Get it done.
- 30:23And get the hell out of there.
- 30:25The hell out.
- 30:25Before the midterms.
- 30:26Right.
- 30:27Or just wait until tomorrow until November 4th because then we wouldn't then, you know, get, you know, there's a war and Trump is fighting battles without focus on the end game.
- 30:42That's right.
- 30:43Because when you lose power, you lose your efficacy to fight the war.
- 30:47You've got nothing.
- 30:47Right.
- 30:48He's now, now the war is lost.
- 30:49They're going to defund him under the War Powers Act.
- 30:52Yeah, he's done.
- 30:54We're getting out of Iran.
- 30:56And whether it's Trump that execute, you know, like ramps this up again and gets it done here,.
- 31:01He's going to have to.
- 31:02If that's what he wants to do.
- 31:03Yeah, if.
- 31:03That's what he.
- 31:04Wants.
- 31:04He's got a couple of months to get it done and that's it.
- 31:06So.
- 31:06They're going to pass a war Powers Act.
- 31:08They're going to force him out of.
- 31:10Just like they forced Gerald Ford out of Vietnam.
- 31:16They're going to defund the war.
- 31:17Yeah, it's done.
- 31:18That's done.
- 31:19And then he's going to be fighting impeachment battles for the next two years.
- 31:21Yeah.
- 31:22And you know.
- 31:22Yep.
- 31:24Economically, if there's a bright side, probably okay.
- 31:28Because I've always said when Congress is deadlocked with the President and vice versa, the government can't do what it wants to do, which is spend your money.
- 31:38And that's usually a good thing.
- 31:40That's usually a good thing.
- 31:41But the ideological war persists, the cultural war persists and we just lost a huge battle.
- 31:48We're putting people with agendas that are directly contrary to the United States founding.
- 31:55Right.
- 31:55In power.
- 31:57And I don't mean just Islamists, I'm talking socialists.
- 32:00Like this is not the American dream, folks.
- 32:01The American dream is not to sit back on your fat ass and collect government checks.
- 32:07That's not the American dream.
- 32:08It never was the American dream.
- 32:09And.
- 32:09It.
- 32:10Was not sustainable.
- 32:11Those who founded this country came over here and worked their asses off to get their little piece of whatever they had.
- 32:17Right.
- 32:18And think of the, the solders out in, out west as they settled the west, building their houses into, into hillsides out of sod.
- 32:24Right.
- 32:25They could stay warm.
- 32:25Yeah.
- 32:26Like they weren't looking for handouts.
- 32:27They were looking for their little piece of the world to be re.
- 32:33Yeah.
- 32:33Free.
- 32:34Not comfortable, but free.
- 32:37There's.
- 32:37Freedom.
- 32:38Freedom is a two sided thing,.
- 32:40Right.
- 32:41You, you can, you can fail and, and, and not be self reliant and you know, give in to the sin of sloth and laziness and gluttony and just, you know, lay on the couch.
- 32:57I mean the thing is, why should people who are working their asses off have to support somebody who wants to succumb to that kind of deadly sin?
- 33:12It was never conceived.
- 33:14This country was never conceived under the general welfare clause of the Constitution that, that you would actually support people who don't care enough about their, their own welfare, who are able bodied, who are.
- 33:31To be clear, you're not talking about those who have legitimate needs.
- 33:35No, not at all.
- 33:36Right.
- 33:37Children, mentally damaged.
- 33:43Whatever, whatever problem you have.
- 33:44Yeah,.
- 33:44Whatever problem you have.
- 33:45Where do you draw that line?
- 33:46I don't know.
- 33:46But I know where it isn't.
- 33:48It's not for, it's not for you.
- 33:50You 19 year old college kid with Your iPhone.
- 33:53No.
- 33:53Railing against.
- 33:54Right.
- 33:55Capitalism.
- 33:56Right.
- 33:57Standing on the shoulders of guys who died at Iwo Jima to preserve it or in the trenches in the battle of the bulge to preserve it.
- 34:04It's not.
- 34:08The welfare is not for you.
- 34:09Well, no.
- 34:10And, and you're getting your degree in Star wars studies of Captain Picard and William.
- 34:17Rest.
- 34:18In peace, by the way.
- 34:18Yeah,.
- 34:19Rest in peace.
- 34:20You know, like the.
- 34:22Some of these majors that are available to people.
- 34:25I mean, listen, I know people who have philosophy and English degrees and history degrees.
- 34:34Yep.
- 34:34And.
- 34:35And at the end of the four years.
- 34:38Okay.
- 34:38English here, History there, Journalism minor here.
- 34:42At the end of four years, you get slapped in the face pretty hard and you realize, oh, well, I guess I'm.
- 34:50I guess I'm going to have to go downtown to Lazarus and, and ask if I can run the men's tie department or something.
- 34:59Or I'm going to.
- 35:00I'm to going.
- 35:00Going to have to be a short order cook at Bob Evans because you did not get a practical career making degree.
- 35:09And that's something Steve and I and everybody else who ever graduated with a liberal arts degree has had to face.
- 35:17But it was different.
- 35:18It was.
- 35:18See, but here's the difference.
- 35:20And here's what, here's what.
- 35:21If I'm going to throw a bone to this generation, it would be this.
- 35:27When I did it, graduating college from the College of Worcester.
- 35:31Yeah.
- 35:31Liberal arts school here in Ohio.
- 35:33Right.
- 35:33In 1992.
- 35:35I studied all sorts of liberal arts.
- 35:37I studied some science, I studied some.
- 35:39I didn't.
- 35:40I was supposed to study math, but you get the point.
- 35:43I.
- 35:43Get the point.
- 35:44I learned some history, I learned some philosophy.
- 35:46Foreign language requirements,.
- 35:47French, which I again tried to study but didn't sign up with Latin.
- 35:52Somewhat useful.
- 35:53I was exposed to all sorts of things.
- 35:54Right.
- 35:55And I graduated with a history degree with no job offer.
- 35:59But you know what I didn't have is a mountain of student debt that only came in the next four years when Bill Clinton said everybody ought to have an education.
- 36:09And now we have federally subsidized student loans.
- 36:12And guess what happened?
- 36:14The schools started charging full freight,.
- 36:16Crazy money.
- 36:17And more because guys like me would come in, get my history degree and it would.
- 36:22Instead of paying 10,000 a year, which is what I paid.
- 36:25Right.
- 36:26And actually less because I got tuition, remission and other stuff.
- 36:29Sure.
- 36:29You know, I worked.
- 36:30I did work study, I worked at home.
- 36:31So you make a couple grand during summer, so net like eight.
- 36:35Very affordable.
- 36:36Right.
- 36:38They're paying 50.
- 36:39Yeah.
- 36:40Or 60 or even 100.
- 36:41At certain things and you come out.
- 36:43And not only that, they're paying full freight because the government is saying I'm going to guarantee that you school get that money back.
- 36:50That is socialism.
- 36:51That's a social program.
- 36:53It is.
- 36:53An abject failure.
- 36:54So all you people that are voting for more of it understand where it came from,.
- 36:58Right?
- 36:58Yeah.
- 37:00So we're 40 trillion in debt as a country and the confiscatory rates that it's going to take for the very generation that wants, you know, the gen zers that want all this free stuff, Gen Z, I'm speaking, you're
- 37:16going to have to pay for your free stuff.
- 37:18So therefore it's not free.
- 37:20Right?
- 37:21It's not free.
- 37:22It will collapse.
- 37:24We will be like France, who is even in greater debt than we are.
- 37:29And the French government has figured out, oh well, we can't pay these retirements.
- 37:36We can't pay for enough police to prevent the riots.
- 37:40We can't.
- 37:41So they activate the army, they bring in the French army to put down the riots because they don't have cops and, and they have whole neighborhoods practicing Sharia law that the police will not even go into those neighborhoods
- 37:54to enforce civil law.
- 37:56Yeah, look, do.
- 37:57You have beheadings going on?
- 37:59You have crazy taking place in some of the suburbs of Paris.
- 38:04It is insanity and it's, and look, you open up the, you open up the borders, you open up the country and that's what's happening here.
- 38:10And don't think it won't because that' again it.
- 38:13All you have to do is listen to what they're telling you.
- 38:15You can lose this in one generation.
- 38:17You could easily, right?
- 38:18Easily.
- 38:19That's right.
- 38:20And it as you said, and it's always the kids I think because I'll tell you a story.
- 38:25My dad, I, I'm a terrible golfer.
- 38:27But when I was 12, 13, I remember golfing one time my dad let my buddy and I go golf.
- 38:32Right?
- 38:33And how'd you do?
- 38:34I lost six balls.
- 38:35My dad's like, six balls?
- 38:37Yes, I don't care.
- 38:38And he always said to me, because you don't pay for them.
- 38:41And he was right.
- 38:42He is right.
- 38:43I didn't understand that at the time.
- 38:44I mean, as soon as he said it, I was like, I better shut up,.
- 38:47I better go shag those walls.
- 38:49So what I did, we start walking the hedgerows of Raymond Memorial golf course and trying to pick up golf balls.
- 38:55So.
- 38:56If I played golf the next time, I spent half the time searching for lost balls and the other half playing Golf.
- 39:01But that was the point.
- 39:02Like, he made a good point and it hit.
- 39:04Right.
- 39:04So you're not paying for your freaking iPhone, folks.
- 39:07You're not paying for your college.
- 39:08We are.
- 39:09Yeah.
- 39:10And do you think if student loans are so horrific that they should be forgiven, why are we still doing it?
- 39:18Yeah, you.
- 39:19Why is the government still in the student loan if they're so bad, why is the government still in the student loan business?
- 39:22Yeah.
- 39:23Because as soon as you shut it off, the college rates drop.
- 39:25Yeah.
- 39:26Immediately.
- 39:27Right.
- 39:27And, you know, paying off people's loans, you know, when they signed for it as an adult.
- 39:35Yes.
- 39:35They were young adults, but, you know, some people sign enlistment papers to go into the army where they're exposed to life and death risk is.
- 39:46So I would say to the college kids, hey, you went in at the same age as other people going into the military.
- 39:53You could get married, you could go the military, you can vote.
- 39:57You have all of these, you know, rights to, for, for.
- 40:01To how you want your life to work out.
- 40:03You went of your own free will and asked for a loan backed by the US government.
- 40:10And then when you're 400 grand in debt with your pottery degree or, or whatever.
- 40:16Silly degree, gender studies or.
- 40:18Whatever your college based on.
- 40:21Yeah,.
- 40:21The.
- 40:21In the climate where you want to go or where your girlfriend's going or where your boyfriend.
- 40:25Yeah, but I really want to go to blank school.
- 40:28They have a nice lounge and.
- 40:30It's.
- 40:30Got a pool and a sauna.
- 40:32Look at, look at the student center.
- 40:33Look how nice it is.
- 40:34And,.
- 40:34And their meal plan, you know, and you're like, well, I was eating green beans out of the can and ramen noodles during law school because even though I worked at my dad's law firm, he was paying me like
- 40:4910 bucks an hour.
- 40:50I heated up my green beans.
- 40:51I'll tell you, I did eat a lot of ramen noodles and a lot of pasta.
- 40:55Well, you know, beans have a lot of protein.
- 40:58Beans and rice.
- 40:58Roughage.
- 40:59Yeah.
- 41:00But, you know, there are, there are reasons to be of good cheer.
- 41:08I do think that the Democrats will inevitably overplay their hand.
- 41:13They always do.
- 41:14They, they, they're, you know, the, the, the incoming head of the Oversight Committee on Government, the Democrat future chairman, you know, who would be akin to Jim Jordan, you know, that kind of investigatory or Oversight committee.
- 41:32He's already said.
- 41:33He.
- 41:34Last night, he said, lawyer up.
- 41:36Lawyer up.
- 41:36Because they're coming after Elon Musk.
- 41:38They're, they're going to dig into Doge.
- 41:40They're going to they're going to dig into the Trump kids because, you know, they have, they've started all this, you know, crypto,.
- 41:50Trump money and all and.
- 41:51All this stuff.
- 41:52So, you know, here we go.
- 41:53They're going to overplay that.
- 41:55And I think if we've learned anything from yesterday, people are very emo about how they're voting.
- 42:04I mean, they are clearly not being logical.
- 42:07No.
- 42:07And I think when they overplay their hand and it becomes, it starts to look like, you know, some tin horn dictatorship country where people all have their knives out, the voters will swing the other way.
- 42:24They'll elect a Rubio or, or, or a Vance because they're going to want sanity back.
- 42:31Maybe.
- 42:32I think that's what, I think that is part of why I don't feel so bad.
- 42:38It is because this is going to set up 2028, I believe.
- 42:42This is what I said to my buddy.
- 42:44We used to call him the Exchequer around here, my fact checker buddy.
- 42:46And I used to say this and it was during COVID and it was when all this crap was going on.
- 42:52I just said, you know what, though?
- 42:54They're exposing their ideology to the world and with all its flaws and they don't even know it.
- 43:01They don't realize how ugly it is to people.
- 43:04I hope you're right.
- 43:04The problem is though, last time they did not do what you're talking about.
- 43:09It was discussed, packed the court, filibuster gone.
- 43:13D.C.
- 43:14and Puerto Rico states.
- 43:15They didn't do that last time.
- 43:18And are they going to do it this time?
- 43:19Yeah, well,.
- 43:21Because that's a fait accompli, I think.
- 43:23Well, we have several DSA candidates that are now office holders or will be in January.
- 43:29So in the House and in the Senate.
- 43:32Uh, so Talarico, for example, has said the filibuster is absolutely should be eliminated.
- 43:38And I'm sure, El Saeed, these people all feel that way that are coming.
- 43:43Yeah.
- 43:43And for those who say that's a good thing because then they can get stuff done.
- 43:47Understand what that means.
- 43:50Yeah.
- 43:51What that stuff is.
- 43:52Understand what that means.
- 43:54It, it is a power grab.
- 43:56Yeah.
- 43:56It is power.
- 43:57Yeah.
- 43:58And if you think that the power will be wielded reasonably by your people, but nobody else.
- 44:04Right.
- 44:04It's time to look in the mirror.
- 44:06So some interesting statistics.
- 44:10In Ohio, issue three passed.
- 44:14So on the federal level, we saw the failure to pass the Save America Act.
- 44:21We did pass that here though,.
- 44:22Which was voter id, which was.
- 44:24Right.
- 44:25And you know, verifying that people are, that are voting, are actually citizens and Therefore entitled to have a vote.
- 44:34Ohio voters and in around the country, similar ballot issues in Arkansas, Alaska, West Virginia, Arizona and a few other states.
- 44:47They all pass very similar, analogous,.
- 44:52Frankly, which is what I want.
- 44:54I mean, I don't want, I don't say I don't want the federal.
- 44:56I would prefer all of that come from the states.
- 44:59Well,.
- 44:59Constitutionally.
- 45:00At least as far as state elections go.
- 45:02Yeah, certainly.
- 45:03And I think how the states run their federal elections, all that should be,.
- 45:06I agree,.
- 45:07Should be state law stuff.
- 45:08I agree.
- 45:09That's just my constitutional ideology.
- 45:11The, the other thing that gives me a glimmer of hope here is in several states, including solidly blue states like Colorado, several states passed referendums against biological males playing sports in female leagues.
- 45:33So in Colorado, for example, that referendum passed even though.
- 45:38Right.
- 45:39They elected, you know, a Democrat governor, Democrat senators, Democrat congressman.
- 45:47That gives me hope because what that says is on voting ID and on trans men playing in female sports, that the voters who were angry over, quote, affordability and gas prices, they could, they still hung on to their
- 46:10common sense values when it came to things that they could understand and digest.
- 46:17Well,.
- 46:17Maybe they're not sophisticated enough to understand that gas prices are temporary and that this isn't a new normal, that it is because of the war.
- 46:26Well, you know, but.
- 46:28They certainly got the, the thing on voting and they got the thing on trans men playing in female sports.
- 46:34So.
- 46:35People have a tendency, me included, to say, all right, I just.
- 46:43These people are saying all this stuff, but they're not going to really do all those things.
- 46:47I'm just sick of what we got.
- 46:48So let's just do something different and it'll work out.
- 46:50It'll swing back this way and it'll swing back that way.
- 46:53But for the first time in maybe for a long, long time, we are talking about a power grab.
- 46:59Not just controlling the reins of the power structures that already exist, but creating more power structures to keep the reins forever.
- 47:07Yeah,.
- 47:08That's the difference.
- 47:08That is the difference.
- 47:11Another little glimmer in bright blue California voters shot down this billionaire forfeiture tax.
- 47:22Oh, I did see that.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:23And you know, of any state that you could think of that might have passed some kind of crazy tax like that, the voters must have calculated that if we pass this thing, even more of these CEOs are going
- 47:42to relocate their companies there or, or wealthy individuals that just, you know, sure, they love the natural resources of California, but they don't have to stay there.
- 47:54Their money is portable, they can get up and go.
- 47:57And many Have.
- 47:57I mean, Texas is kind of California light right now.
- 48:03And I think that's the demographic shifts of voters from places like New York down south to places like Florida made that governor's race down there very tight.
- 48:14Yeah, they go down and ruin what the next thing they touch,.
- 48:16Like locusts.
- 48:18Let's go to this big, green, leafy state.
- 48:21Let's chew up all those fields and, and reduce Texas and Florida to what California is like now.
- 48:28And then they'll go find Ohio or go find somewhere else or Tennessee.
- 48:31But, yeah, it's.
- 48:32It's a problem, and that's just what it is.
- 48:33The other dismissive thing about Trump that really lit my fuse and, and it's the same thing that DeWine Husted Ramaswamy did is this whole data center and AI phenomenon that really got ramped up and shoved in people's faces
- 48:56in the last couple of years.
- 48:58The amount of social media whiplash against.
- 49:04I mean, went from being, hey, can you just cite these things away from homes to now there were referendums, like in Granville, Ohio, to just outright ban.
- 49:18And this is happening all around Ohio, where townships and villages are passing these bans, absolute bans against data centers.
- 49:28And so it's becoming like a talisman.
- 49:32You know, are you pro or anti data center?
- 49:36Which is like being pro or anti electricity or.
- 49:41Or any other industry.
- 49:43And it's like the idea of Trump telling rural voters in the 24 election, he had 69% of rural voters.
- 49:56Pretty good, right?
- 49:57Almost 70%.
- 49:59Trump telling those people, you're a sucker if you're against data centers.
- 50:05He's just making a blanket statement.
- 50:08Data centers are your opportunity to cash in.
- 50:11You should embrace data centers.
- 50:13You're going to make so much.
- 50:14Meanwhile, they're humming in people's backyards and they don't like them.
- 50:17Exactly.
- 50:18Don't piss down my neck and tell me.
- 50:19Training the old outlaw, Josie Wales.
- 50:21Right.
- 50:21Exactly, Steve.
- 50:22Instead of saying, guys, we're.
- 50:24I hear you.
- 50:25We need these things.
- 50:26We're going to be more careful about where we put them.
- 50:28Thank you.
- 50:29Yes.
- 50:30And maybe we can go underground, maybe.
- 50:31I'm listening.
- 50:32I hear you.
- 50:33Yes.
- 50:33Where was the reassurance to calm these suburban and rural, mainly female voters that no, in 24, they voted for Trump, more African Americans voted for Trump.
- 50:47Latinos down in Texas, they voted for Trump.
- 50:51And then for Ken Paxton, they bandoned him.
- 50:54They did the Latino vote for Paxton.
- 50:57What was.
- 50:58Right back to what a typical Republican would get in Texas.
- 51:02Very small, like 25%.
- 51:05Something like that.
- 51:06Yeah.
- 51:06And you know, Trump had 50% of the Latino vote.
- 51:10So.
- 51:10So you ignore these people at your peril.
- 51:13You can't.
- 51:14This is the thing that I just, I'm so angry about is this lack of transparency in our state government and writ large nationally.
- 51:25And I think this was like a red, A MAGA scream back at the, the GOP power structure was like, okay, listen, we'll, we'll march to hell with Donald Trump, but we're going to sit on our hands and we
- 51:42are not going to vote for a straight ticket.
- 51:46We, you know, if Trump was on the ballot, he probably would have done pretty well.
- 51:52But you.
- 51:52If it's a pretend Trump on the ballot, the voters rejected that.
- 51:56Yeah.
- 51:57No.
- 51:57So, you know, the, the future holds the answers to the following questions.
- 52:01Yeah.
- 52:02Who's going to carry the torch for the Republican Party?
- 52:04I don't think it's going to be.
- 52:05I think the MAGA movement as such is not going to be.
- 52:09Is dead.
- 52:10So whatever.
- 52:11Whoever is going to pick up that torch.
- 52:12Well,.
- 52:12He's a lame duck.
- 52:13Needs to come up with their own vision.
- 52:16That's right.
- 52:17And I would suggest a practical vision.
- 52:21That's.
- 52:22Right.
- 52:22That is not.
- 52:25That has a direction.
- 52:26That has a direction that can be explained, that is sympathetic to the American people, which is why you're there and Trump act.
- 52:37I think there was a place and a time for Trump and I think he was on that hill when he was needed the most, did his job.
- 52:46But you know, sort of like he's done, it's over.
- 52:51Yeah, we, he should have understood.
- 52:55And clearly, I think in one or two broadcasts you even said he didn't care.
- 53:02And I know there's a lot like you can break that down, why he didn't care.
- 53:07And I think a lot of it was probably he thought the force of his personality would overcome.
- 53:14His arrogance.
- 53:15That's right.
- 53:15His.
- 53:16Arrogance.
- 53:16That's right.
- 53:17His hubris that, that he could overcome people's very real and very practical fears and emotions.
- 53:26And I think he didn't understand how short term Americans memories are and their, and their perceptions of, of, of what's important is.
- 53:41And when you.
- 53:44So I looked at the returns for probably the most Republican county in Ohio, Licking county.
- 53:51Trump in 24 had like 70%.
- 53:56And even though the Licking county commissioners and The Licking County GOP won last night, they won with 10%, 10 points less than what similar office holders got when Trump was on the ballot.
- 54:11I got you.
- 54:12And so what that tells me is you take 10% off the table and you go down these races and you look at Susan Collins or you look at EL Sayed against Rogers up in Michigan, or you look at
- 54:25Houston against Sherrod Brown,.
- 54:27That's about the margin.
- 54:28You feed back that 10% that this would have been a red wave.
- 54:33So I keep, I keep saying this sounds very petty, but I keep going back to gas prices.
- 54:40And you and I discussed this and we knew this, we know Ohio, we knew this, that if gas prices are high on election day, we're in trouble.
- 54:53We're in trouble as conservatives.
- 54:55And we were.
- 54:56And they were.
- 54:57And we were.
- 54:57And we were.
- 54:58So going forward, pick somebody who's got a cohesive planned agenda.
- 55:07Yeah,.
- 55:07I hate to use that word,.
- 55:08But.
- 55:09A plan for how the government should operate.
- 55:12Because laughably, Steve, this revulsion, this red scream result that happened, it's not logical.
- 55:24And you know, because,.
- 55:27Well, nothing Trump did was logical.
- 55:28No.
- 55:28What,.
- 55:29From their perspective,.
- 55:29What I mean, the revulsion by the, by the MAGA people, the gun owners, the, the blue collar guys, the lunch pail guys, the UAW guys, the people who sat on their hands and said, you know, I'm pissed about
- 55:43diesel, pissed about gas.
- 55:46The, the illogical thing about that, the affordability election as it's being bannered.
- 55:52Yeah.
- 55:52Is.
- 55:53Is that the people that, by sitting on their hands and allowing Gen Z and the women and, and the, the various, the, you know, the Somali vote, the Haitian by, by allowing that vote to run over the top
- 56:10or even themselves voting crossing party and voting for Democrats to send a message.
- 56:16What they did, of course, course is they, they elected a party that is not interested in lowering gas prices.
- 56:24No.
- 56:24And they're going to go up.
- 56:26They're going to go up.
- 56:26They love it right now because this is the baseline.
- 56:29Yes, exactly.
- 56:30Right.
- 56:30So they have no intent of bringing it down.
- 56:32So what did they do when they had power?
- 56:34Right.
- 56:36They, they, they shut down construction of the pipeline.
- 56:40They ended.
- 56:41They, they, they made illegal drilling in Alaska.
- 56:45They made it harder to explore.
- 56:48They ended leases on public land, they ended offshore drilling.
- 56:54They force fed EVs onto the car manufacturers who have had to can do a complete turnaround because people weren't ready for expensive EVs.
- 57:05They wanted inexpensive diesel Ford pickups and, and GMC gas pickups and whatever.
- 57:13So the people that this vote yesterday empowered are not the people who are going to address the affordability.
- 57:21Not at all.
- 57:22Not that way.
- 57:22So look again plan going forward.
- 57:25Find somebody who's normal, at least reasonably normal.
- 57:29Yeah.
- 57:30Have an agenda.
- 57:31End the freaking war in Iran favorably.
- 57:35Yeah.
- 57:37Focus on.
- 57:37And some people would say we've won that war.
- 57:40Yeah.
- 57:40Because the capability of making a nuclear weapon right now is zero.
- 57:45Is zero.
- 57:45Right.
- 57:46So end it one way or another and save face.
- 57:49That will automatically adjust the fuel prices that you're talking about.
- 57:53Yeah.
- 57:54And address people's concerns with two other topics that I will call.
- 57:56I'm not going to call them ancillary because that downplays them.
- 57:59The importance data centers.
- 58:01Epstein.
- 58:04I think Trump.
- 58:04We haven't talked about that, but he totally flubbed the Epstein thing.
- 58:07Just let it happen.
- 58:08Like it went by.
- 58:09And I understand why he did it.
- 58:10I think.
- 58:11I think he was trying to protect others.
- 58:12That would have been names in those files.
- 58:14And even maybe victims.
- 58:16Did nothing.
- 58:17They did nothing either.
- 58:17But it fell on Trump.
- 58:19And Mr.
- 58:20Transparency didn't do it.
- 58:22He didn't just say, here it is.
- 58:23Take it for what it is.
- 58:25Well, they did.
- 58:25They did put out the files, but they're just raw investigatory files.
- 58:30And.
- 58:31It took a long.
- 58:32I mean, it was a fight.
- 58:34It was a fight to do it.
- 58:35Like, it was this and that and the other.
- 58:36It's just little things like that.
- 58:38Things that people.
- 58:39Well, you're, you're a criminal defense lawyer.
- 58:41And how unfair is it to our legal system really, to, To Justice Steve, to put out raw investigative files?
- 58:52Look, I'm not saying that's.
- 58:54Terrible.
- 58:54I'm not saying I agree that they should have even started to do that.
- 58:57Because I could say something,.
- 58:58But they.
- 58:58Didn't.
- 58:59Awful about a person.
- 59:00But how he handled the messaging.
- 59:03How he handled the messaging.
- 59:04Fair.
- 59:05Came back at him and it hurt him.
- 59:07I think a, a, a deep.
- 59:11So, so if you had Dershowitz or you.
- 59:13You had Jonathan.
- 59:15I always forget his name.
- 59:17But if you had one of these law professors carefully explain that it is important to preserve the unbiased atmosphere for an eventual jury that you just can't put out.
- 59:31Investigatory.
- 59:33Said that he was going to do it and then he didn't.
- 59:35And then it came out.
- 59:36And then he did.
- 59:37And then it came out trickled.
- 59:38And then he fired the agent.
- 59:40I got it.
- 59:40But.
- 59:41He fired Bondi over it.
- 59:42Things started to fall apart with the tariffs and with the Epstein thing.
- 59:48And then later on, like, I think locally here anyway, the data centers and that kind of.
- 59:52And you know, Trump looked at those things as like flies.
- 59:56Yeah.
- 59:56But they weren't.
- 59:57Yeah.
- 59:58Yeah.
- 59:58Even.
- 59:59And, and one.
- 1:00:00Some.
- 1:00:01So I have quotes from the talking heads, but like Carl Rove, who was famously George Bush II's brain.
- 1:00:09Right.
- 1:00:10Karl Rove said that in his Opinion, the big thing that really turned people against Trump was the ICE enforcement, the mass deportations, the chasing down of people in vehicles.
- 1:00:25And so the visuals of the state apparatus against poor brown people, if you will, upset a lot of people.
- 1:00:38And he said, well, we all know of, you know, of course, he's the Texan.
- 1:00:43We all know of good people standing outside of Home Depot, you know, with a pair of work gloves, waiting to get picked up and.
- 1:00:52And to go to work for the day for cash money.
- 1:00:55And I'm like, you know, if Americans are that averse, I mean, Steve, what arrest again?
- 1:01:04You're a criminal defense attorney.
- 1:01:06Have you ever seen a contested arrest where somebody's resisting?
- 1:01:12And it.
- 1:01:12Does any video that ever really look good for the police, it just doesn't look good because they're throwing the guy to the ground, they're wrapping his arms around his back.
- 1:01:22It does, though, and here's why it's not.
- 1:01:25It looks the same, but the messaging is different.
- 1:01:30So go look at videos of a Karen who is behind the wheel of her car and she's pulled over and she refuses to get out.
- 1:01:39Oh, yeah.
- 1:01:39And then eventually the police break the window and she's screaming and she gets slammed to the ground.
- 1:01:44And now there's this.
- 1:01:45Her arms are contorted.
- 1:01:46That looks the same.
- 1:01:47But it wasn't about brown people in ice, you know, so the messaging that.
- 1:01:52And Trump didn't spin that message well either, particularly not in Minnesota.
- 1:01:55The better.
- 1:01:55Like there was a better way to do it, but it became this is not.
- 1:02:00Not.
- 1:02:01I mean, so as Andrew Clavin, I think, said this, and he's not the first person to say it, but the worst traits of people are often their best traits, too.
- 1:02:08Do and vice versa.
- 1:02:10So Trump's trade is, I'm not getting bullied around, I'm not getting pushed around.
- 1:02:14I'm not going to get shouted down as this or shouted down as that or whatever.
- 1:02:17And then he'll turn around when he's got this problem in Minnesota, he becomes a little bit callous to it and says, screw it, I'm sending more and I'm going to do more of it,.
- 1:02:25And.
- 1:02:25I'm going to stick it up your ass even harder.
- 1:02:27And it was an opportunity there to be a little diplomatic and say, all right, look, Minnesota, I want to work with you, but you got to work with me.
- 1:02:36Don't just send the army in.
- 1:02:37Say, I want to work with you, but you got to work with me.
- 1:02:40You can't keep me out of the places where these Dangerous criminals are.
- 1:02:43Yeah.
- 1:02:43And if you agree to do that, I'll stay off the street.
- 1:02:45I mean, there was a chance there that something could happen.
- 1:02:47But he doubles down on it.
- 1:02:48Well, he finally got to what you're saying when he sent Tom Homan in,.
- 1:02:52But it was too late.
- 1:02:53It was after all these.
- 1:02:56Violence and the riots.
- 1:02:57But.
- 1:02:57Now you don't have that in Minnesota because Homan went in and said, okay, we're not going to do the high visibility arrest.
- 1:03:04Right.
- 1:03:04We're going to go to their home.
- 1:03:06Never had to happen in the first place.
- 1:03:07It.
- 1:03:07Never had to happen in the.
- 1:03:08And it could have been a phone call to the leader.
- 1:03:10I think a phone call to say, look, guys, you're not letting me in the jails, you're not letting me here, you're not letting our guys in there.
- 1:03:17What can we do to work this out?
- 1:03:18And instead, I think he, Trump.
- 1:03:21Trump's the kind of guy that wants to make that show.
- 1:03:23He.
- 1:03:23Wanted the conference.
- 1:03:24He's like, you know what?
- 1:03:25This.
- 1:03:25So then that.
- 1:03:26Right.
- 1:03:26And there's.
- 1:03:28And that hurt him.
- 1:03:29Yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:03:30That hurt him.
- 1:03:31I think you're right.
- 1:03:32I think Karl Rove has a point.
- 1:03:33I don't think that's what turned.
- 1:03:35I don't think it is at all.
- 1:03:36The people that are going to vote for Trump that got most of the people that weren't voting for him already.
- 1:03:41So some of the lessons also are, as we discussed this early voting, Ohio's early vote was even bigger than what we talked about last week.
- 1:03:51It was almost 2 million early votes.
- 1:03:55It was 17, like 1.75 million early votes in Ohio.
- 1:04:03And 2/3 of those were Democrat.
- 1:04:07They ended up voting for Amy Acton.
- 1:04:11They ended up voting for Sherrod Brown.
- 1:04:13The early vote, that 1.75 was 2/3, 2/3 Democrat.
- 1:04:20And so what do I say about that?
- 1:04:23There's this guy on a podcast named John Ashbrook.
- 1:04:27I don't know if he's related probably as to the former Congressman Ashbrook, but it's a conservative podcast.
- 1:04:35They're on Fox News now.
- 1:04:37And he said the Repub.
- 1:04:39And you know, I said this last week and I think you agreed.
- 1:04:43The Republicans always seem to want to spend their money.
- 1:04:46Like Elon Musk gave what, a quarter of a billion dollars?
- 1:04:52Vivek and his allies spent a hundred million on his losing governor gubernatorial effort.
- 1:04:59But the Republicans started spending money after Labor Day.
- 1:05:04Yeah, it's too late.
- 1:05:04It's too late.
- 1:05:05The narrative had already been set.
- 1:05:08It was done.
- 1:05:09It was done.
- 1:05:09It.
- 1:05:10Was done.
- 1:05:10And yeah, lessons learned.
- 1:05:12Lessons learned.
- 1:05:13You know, if you think you're going to at the last minute, like Trump yesterday, he cut off funding for Israel yesterday.
- 1:05:22Yeah.
- 1:05:23On election day.
- 1:05:24And it's like, if you think that, that if like.
- 1:05:28You'd already lost.
- 1:05:29Is he thinking people were standing in line, Right.
- 1:05:32And they're going, you know, I don't like what Netanyahu did in Gaza, killing 20,000 Gazans.
- 1:05:40And so I'm going to cut Israel off on election day.
- 1:05:43As I just said, one third of the Ohio vote, maybe even more than that, maybe almost.
- 1:05:51We'll have to see what the total vote is.
- 1:05:53But 1.75 million Ohioans had already voted.
- 1:05:59So who are you appealing?
- 1:06:00It's, it's water.
- 1:06:02Don't change your mind on the last day.
- 1:06:04It doesn't happen.
- 1:06:05If it does happen, it's not going to happen on a way in a, on a scale that's going to out change the outcome.
- 1:06:09So.
- 1:06:09Well, look, let's wrap it up good and bad again.
- 1:06:11We've already talked about all the good and bad there is.
- 1:06:13Well, so in my little corner of the world there was this fellow, his particular road in Licking county because a data center construction has been torn up for a couple of years and you know,.
- 1:06:33This is our friend.
- 1:06:34Oh no, no, no.
- 1:06:35Different.
- 1:06:36Lives on the same road.
- 1:06:37Yeah, same, same problem.
- 1:06:39But there's this fellow that encouraged people to write him in.
- 1:06:44Okay.
- 1:06:45So he didn't want to participate as a Republican for whatever reason and he said I'm going to be an independent.
- 1:06:52I didn't, you know, I'm not on the ballot as a member of either party.
- 1:06:57Write me in.
- 1:06:57And he had signs all over the damn place.
- 1:06:59Write me in.
- 1:07:01Here's the, here's the problem about not being involved in one of the two parties.
- 1:07:09He.
- 1:07:10Out of 42,000 votes that went to the Republican county commissioner.
- 1:07:17Okay.
- 1:07:17Who did win.
- 1:07:19The endorsed regular Republican who won office got 42,000.
- 1:07:26The write in candidate who, if you just were on Facebook you would think this guy is a shoo in because it's a bubble.
- 1:07:34You've got all these people talking to each other and saying all the same stuff because he's upset about the roads.
- 1:07:41He got a thousand votes.
- 1:07:44So it just literally.
- 1:07:46And eye contact.
- 1:07:47Dude, this is a complete waste of your genius and your time.
- 1:07:52Yeah,.
- 1:07:52You need.
- 1:07:54Use that, use that energy elsewhere.
- 1:07:56You need to get into the primary.
- 1:07:58You need to be the endorsed candidate.
- 1:08:01And this is where it's a ground game.
- 1:08:04This is.
- 1:08:05So I'm encouraged that people seem to be wanting some kind of solution from outside the box.
- 1:08:12But what they don't realize because of their lack of understanding that politics is a business.
- 1:08:19They need to dive into the process.
- 1:08:25They need to take it over.
- 1:08:27Just like the DSA has taken over the Democrat Party.
- 1:08:31Common Sense Republicans need to take over the elitist.
- 1:08:37Yeah.
- 1:08:38Instead.
- 1:08:38Yeah.
- 1:08:38Instead of playing the sidelines, that's playing the game.
- 1:08:40So, look, with that, we got to wrap it up.
- 1:08:42Okay.
- 1:08:43Common Sense Ohio election results.
- 1:08:46It'll be okay, people.
- 1:08:47We're going to survive.
- 1:08:48We always do.
- 1:08:49We're going to be.
- 1:08:50We will live to fight.
- 1:08:51Enough.
- 1:08:51Yes, sir.
