Transcript
- 0:00All right, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on an
- 0:02opening day Thursday. The Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:05Trent Condon and Ken Miller for the next two hours talking
- 0:09baseball with you. Not really.
- 0:13But I just wonder if you're paying attention.
- 0:15We will talk a little bit of baseball, but it is the Sweet
- 0:1816. It's underway tonight at 6:00,
- 0:21including Iowa, Nebraska. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:24program is Trent Condon and myself, Ken Miller with you
- 0:27until 2:00. Bottom of the hour, A Bobby
- 0:29Hansen, the analyst for men's basketball at the University of
- 0:32Iowa, former NBA player, former Hawkeye, former Dowling Catholic
- 0:37maroon Bobby Hansen coming up here at 12:30 on tonight's
- 0:40matchup against Nebraska. Carrie Miller covers college
- 0:44basketball on a national basis for Bleacher Report.
- 0:48He joins us to kick off our second hour.
- 0:50So about one O 2 Carrie Miller will be here.
- 0:53We'll take a look at more just the two needle movers, Iowa
- 0:56State tomorrow, Tennessee and of course Iowa.
- 0:57Nebraska will take a look around the remaining Sweet 16 games
- 1:01with Carrie Miller. Look forward to doing that.
- 1:04And then off to Houston we'll go and Stephen M Simple will join
- 1:07us or back to Houston, I guess Stephen M Simple will join us.
- 1:10We'll get his thoughts on from a Britain Nebraska perspective
- 1:13What he expects to see. I think Nebraska will actually
- 1:17be on the floor when sip tox does Bobby Hansen will be
- 1:21watching Iowa go through their shoot when he talks to us.
- 1:25Yeah, I was got the floor from 10 till or from noon rather till
- 1:29just before 1 and then Nebraska follows.
- 1:31So we get simple get Bobby Hansen.
- 1:33We'll have you covered on Iowa Nebraska just a it just feels
- 1:37different doesn't it? Last week it was great.
- 1:40This just elevates it to another level.
- 1:43Can you imagine? Do you dare to imagine what the?
- 1:46Following week would be like a final four.
- 1:49I mean, they're two wins away. Both schools are two wins away.
- 1:53And for Iowa, it's a coin flip, this one for Iowa State, it's a
- 1:59goal, Eileen, yes, that you're a good favorite in and then when
- 2:05to get there. When to get there?
- 2:07Iowa State hasn't been to an Elite 8 in 26 years and they.
- 2:11Got screwed a where the game was played and I hated the fact that
- 2:17Eustacia did not get a good whistle.
- 2:19Of course he was up against. Well, I would push back on where
- 2:21the game was played. Was played in Michigan.
- 2:24Right, they were the number one seat.
- 2:25Well, get it. But sure, it was played in
- 2:27Michigan and it didn't hurt. This wasn't like.
- 2:28It didn't hurt Michigan State when the game was played.
- 2:31That was an advantage, but they didn't get screwed.
- 2:33They're A2 seat, the other team was A1 seat.
- 2:35All right, well, it it didn't help where the game.
- 2:38Was no, absolutely not. I'm not disagreeing on that.
- 2:40I don't that's the one part they got a bad whistle.
- 2:42They did, absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:44And I hated to see him walk off the floor if.
- 2:46Florida would had to play Houston and Houston that's
- 2:49getting screwed. Yeah, we're number one seed has
- 2:51to play in a 2. You know that would.
- 2:53I think whoever plays Houston is getting screwed because they're
- 2:55mile and 1/2 from campus for. Absolutely.
- 2:58It's actually 2.1. Get it right?
- 3:00Is that what it is? 2.1 miles from the from campus
- 3:02to the Toyota Center. You're in the front door, 22
- 3:05miles. It was a bus trip.
- 3:07It took 5 minutes. It's like Drake played a Sweet
- 3:0916 game in. Wells Fargo, Wells Fargo, KC
- 3:12Center. Yeah.
- 3:13I'm not sure that'll happen, but we will.
- 3:15Who knows? I didn't see this coming.
- 3:16I don't think very many people did.
- 3:18How do you feel about the game Coin Flip?
- 3:22It is. Both of the games earlier this
- 3:23year were coin flips. Yeah, I don't see a decided
- 3:27advantage one way or the other. And from the Iowa perspective, I
- 3:31feel very confident now, Husker fans, that I know you're, you're
- 3:34a very, very delicate bunch. You don't like what I mean to
- 3:37you. But just listen.
- 3:40Ben McCullum is a better X's and O's coach than Fred Hoiberg.
- 3:45It's not that Fred Hoiberg's not a good coach, because he is.
- 3:48He's an excellent coach. But Ben McCullum, and with the
- 3:51success that he has had in tournament games, Fred Hoiberg
- 3:54hasn't. Lane McCollum, OK, best player
- 4:02now for Iowa. That best player has not played.
- 4:05Great. Hasn't had for the last couple
- 4:07of weeks. It's been weeks.
- 4:09That is a concern. Sanford can shoot it in a big
- 4:14time way, but they also have a bunch of different weapons
- 4:19advantage. Huskers, I think roster wise by
- 4:22an inch. Yeah, I think you've more than
- 4:24an inch. I think they have a better
- 4:25roster or certainly one through weight and even starting line up
- 4:30they're better. Who's going to dictate style,
- 4:33Who's going to? It's my column.
- 4:35They have a team that's been able to speed them up this year.
- 4:39Yeah, you. Just you can't.
- 4:42You can't do it. They will.
- 4:44And if they dictate that that very easily it comes down to 3
- 4:48point shooting. Look at the first game, both
- 4:50teams didn't shoot it well from three, we had more points.
- 4:52In the second game, what happened?
- 4:53Both teams shot it better from behind the three-point arc.
- 4:56It's not wild that these regular season ended with that match up.
- 5:00The last regular season game of the year, yeah, it was, and I
- 5:02was been involved in a lot of those, which I think is awesome.
- 5:05I do too. Yes, it was Illinois for a
- 5:07couple of years. You know what?
- 5:08But keep it as those two schools, those two games, yes, I
- 5:11play Illinois or I play Nebraska.
- 5:13That would be wonderful. Call it into the Big 10 offices.
- 5:15Think they'll take our call? No, right.
- 5:17Probably not. Probably not going to happen.
- 5:19I see it as a koi flip there. There's nothing that I think you
- 5:22can point to and say, Oh yeah, this is going to be different
- 5:24this time. And when it comes to?
- 5:26Well, you know what might be different this time?
- 5:28Do you remember who had the, I mean, a career game?
- 5:31His last name's Jacobson. I don't know his first name.
- 5:33Kale. Kale.
- 5:35How did I miss that name? It's my son's name.
- 5:38But regardless, he, he, he had an unbelievable day, an
- 5:42unbelievable day. When they pulled away in
- 5:44overtime, it was back-to-back three said it was him.
- 5:45Yeah, it was. It was him.
- 5:48There is one guy, though, that does concern me that hasn't
- 5:51played great. And he is a guy that asked no,
- 5:57because mass finally started to heat up.
- 5:59He was shooting terribly before the last three.
- 6:01Yeah, Yeah, he was. Really.
- 6:02The guy's name, That's really hard to pronounce.
- 6:05No. OK.
- 6:06How do you pronounce it? Starts with AB.
- 6:08Buck Chanel. I guess so.
- 6:10Butt dart, that's what I'll go with.
- 6:11OK, Braden Frager, the kid who was photographed, Do you
- 6:15remember this? It was that game, I think it
- 6:18was. Hoiberg called the time out.
- 6:20The team gathered on the floor. Frager was in somewhat of a mood
- 6:25that he was not being used properly or he wanted more
- 6:28minutes. And he was pouting.
- 6:29And he sat on the bench and it was captured in a photo and
- 6:33placed on Twitter. Like, what's this guy up to?
- 6:36Frager has not played. Well, he did.
- 6:38This against against Iowa. I was gonna say he's had some
- 6:40moments in this tournament. He's played great, yeah, in both
- 6:42tournament games. And this is a guy that can go
- 6:44off. He is long.
- 6:45He is lanky. He is a Nebraska native.
- 6:47I was gonna say he's a local. Kid.
- 6:48Yes, he's a Lincoln kid. And he is a guy that hasn't
- 6:51looked great against Iowa, so you might kind of forget about
- 6:54him as a Hawkeye fan. Who who's shut him down?
- 6:57Do you know? Have they gone?
- 6:58I don't know if he was to do that.
- 6:59I don't think so. I mean, he's not a guy that is
- 7:01tough, but he can go off and that's a guy a little bit lower
- 7:05That does concern me a little bit.
- 7:07He's got length, he's got shooting ability, He's got a lot
- 7:09of things that could cause some problems.
- 7:12So if you're looking for maybe that guy a little bit further
- 7:14down the depth chart, he would be one that I would look at.
- 7:17Another concerning angle for me from the Iowa perspective is
- 7:22Isaiah Howard, who was such a tremendous defender.
- 7:25But that air ball and it, it wasn't just that.
- 7:28The free throw, you mean? Oh.
- 7:29Yeah, he offensively looked scared in that game when he was
- 7:36in there when he got the basketball, he couldn't get it
- 7:38out of his hands any quicker. And they're going to need that
- 7:42secondary scoring. I mean, is the likelihood that
- 7:44suddenly after three weeks of Bennett stirred, struggling,
- 7:46he's going to go off for 33? I I don't think so.
- 7:50I don't. Sunday to Thursday, turn around.
- 7:55Wish they'd played tomorrow, yeah?
- 7:56That that extra day definitely would help them.
- 7:58I don't think you can count on Bennett Sturt's finally going
- 8:02off because we just haven't seen it for since the Ohio State home
- 8:05game. It's been a long time.
- 8:06It it has. So you need secondary scoring.
- 8:08Is TBM Banks going to do that again?
- 8:10No, I will say this. He hasn't played well in some
- 8:14areas, scoring well, he hasn't, but he's still got to go in
- 8:16between the years. Oh, absolutely, yes.
- 8:18And so smart. He had a bucket the last minute
- 8:20of the game that was incredibly important.
- 8:22So and he said, and I loved his mindset, he said yesterday
- 8:27during media availability. You know, if I'm over 20, I'm
- 8:30still going to shoot. That's what I do.
- 8:32I have confidence of myself. My team has confidence to be.
- 8:35I loved hearing that and it didn't seem like.
- 8:36Was he on a podium or was he? So was it at the locker room?
- 8:39OK, So what was the media attendance like?
- 8:42Did you get a look at? That not sure.
- 8:43Anxious to see how many people went down.
- 8:46You need secondary scoring, though.
- 8:47Yeah, Cooper Koch went off in Lincoln.
- 8:49Yeah, he's been Red House. Cooper Koch went off in.
- 8:52Where were they, Tampa? So the blueprint here starts at
- 8:56minimum say he goes 3 and 9 from three.
- 9:00Would you sign up for that right now?
- 9:01Yeah, I mean, he's old for 9:00. OnStar overnight you get 3 more
- 9:05from Cooper. Catch Cale Combs went off in
- 9:08Lincoln. That was one of his best games
- 9:10and we've seen that at moments this year.
- 9:12And Banks is playing well right now.
- 9:14But The X Factor and we've set it now for 35.
- 9:18Games the guy that made the three.
- 9:19Alvaro Fulgaris, What he does very well determines this game.
- 9:23Could be if they get good Al. Iowa wins, they get bad out.
- 9:28I will lose this. I mean, is that maybe the most
- 9:30succinct way to look at this basketball game?
- 9:33Well, it's certainly, it's certainly a layer of a Trent.
- 9:35I don't disagree with you there. Because look, the whole, the
- 9:40whole season long, our conversation was, well, if
- 9:44Sturtz goes, so go the Hawks. And if Sturtz isn't playing well
- 9:48and if Sturtz isn't this and now they're essentially Maryland,
- 9:52well, we've we've seen them get help in other areas.
- 9:56And Phil Garris was certainly one of those.
- 9:58And Koch has been really good Combs.
- 10:01I think the way Banks has played this this post season has been
- 10:04terrific. Yes, he really has come a long
- 10:07way. Let's take Jim real quick and
- 10:09then we'll get back into it. Jim, welcome to the program.
- 10:12How are you? Hey guys, can't can't wait till
- 10:156:30. I agree with everything you guys
- 10:18said. I think I'll be shocked if
- 10:21Sanford and Sturtz don't cancel each other out.
- 10:24In my opinion it's going to come down to Koch and Fulgaris
- 10:29against those two guys you mentioned.
- 10:31They can't. Jacobson And who's the other
- 10:33kid? Frager.
- 10:34Frager, I think those those are your difference and then banks
- 10:37against mast but. Throw Sam Wyberg into the mixed
- 10:40time Wybridge. A hell of a year.
- 10:43Lloyd Berg against McCombs, that'll be another big match up.
- 10:47I think those Bulgaris and Cots against those two, that Jacobson
- 10:51and Prager, I think that'll be the difference.
- 10:53Like you guys said, hopefully. Did somebody fly Fulgaris's mom
- 10:56to the game? She is going to be there and
- 10:59Nacho is also there. His brother and he had a great
- 11:01game when Nacho was in attendance.
- 11:03But didn't Nacho go to Lincoln when they got beat?
- 11:05I don't believe. So, OK, well, good.
- 11:10I'd be back after the casino and put more money down on my money
- 11:12there. You go Atta boy, Jim.
- 11:14Well. Done good after Jim.
- 11:15Enjoy your enjoy the game tonight.
- 11:17Best of luck to you if you are making some wagers and best of
- 11:19luck to all the Hawkeye fans that are listening out there.
- 11:21It would be unbelievable. I I know truly this is such
- 11:25rarefied air rights. I don't have to remind anybody
- 11:28where we're at and how long this has been and where wherever this
- 11:32weekend might be taking us with both teams can be dare to dream.
- 11:38Let me get. No, I just too soon.
- 11:39Maybe we'll do that. But we're not on the air
- 11:41Saturday. Here's Andy.
- 11:44Last time we spoke with Andy, Andy was driving to Houston.
- 11:47So obviously you've made it. How long was the drive and
- 11:51whereabouts are you now? So we got in at 2:00 AM, about
- 11:5613 hour. Well, it took us 14 hours.
- 11:58We'd stopped about 15 minutes every place, only like 4 times.
- 12:01But I'm currently standing outside the Toyota Center.
- 12:05Nice. Any Hawkeye fans there?
- 12:06Hawkeye, Andy. Not yet.
- 12:09We did see a couple of couple enemy Husker fans this morning.
- 12:14They were a little cocky, they said.
- 12:16They said good luck in a tone I didn't really appreciate.
- 12:19Of course, then a couple of older fans had Nebraska football
- 12:25shirts because I don't think. From the 90s.
- 12:28Yeah, exactly. They're all great.
- 12:30They're all creating fans till last year.
- 12:34That's funny. So how do you feel?
- 12:35Give me, give me a prediction. What's going to happen tonight,
- 12:38Andy? I don't know.
- 12:40I'm, I'm with you guys in a coin flip, but you know what?
- 12:43I think Ben's been studying film all night.
- 12:46I think Bennett goes for five threes, 20 some points, 8
- 12:50assists. I think Tate Sage is my dark
- 12:53horse. He's going to step up tonight.
- 12:55I'm going to go with Tate Sage. I'm going to go Hawks 73, Bug
- 13:00Eaters 70. It'd.
- 13:02Be a hell of a game, hell of a game.
- 13:04So you'll stay for, you'll stay for Saturday, Andy, if they if
- 13:07they get through the night. Absolutely.
- 13:10Yep, we're here. We're here till Saturday.
- 13:12Good stuff man, enjoy the game, rooting for your squad, bring
- 13:14back. A couple of wins, Andy,
- 13:16absolutely. I will try.
- 13:17Thank you guys. Have fun.
- 13:18Good to hear from you. Here's Thunder Joe.
- 13:21Hello, Joe. How are you?
- 13:23Hey, good afternoon. I.
- 13:24Wanted to get tell you guys this.
- 13:26I got a hot bet for you today. Oh no, is this going to be like
- 13:28the 73 win bet you had for us last time, Joe?
- 13:31I I I don't understand your language buddy.
- 13:36Hey. Put money on Tyler.
- 13:38O'Neill to hit a home run today. Tyler O'Neill to hit a home run
- 13:41today. What kind of odds are we talking
- 13:42about here? And why?
- 13:44It's plus 350. I'm going to tell you why.
- 13:46But your Canadian but your Canadian brethren and Tyler
- 13:49O'Neill. OK.
- 13:50He passed 6 opening days. He's homework.
- 13:54Wow, really? That's wild.
- 13:55Yes Huh, I didn't know that. And he's plus 3:50 to do it
- 14:02today. Plus 3:50 to do it.
- 14:06I'm in, I mean. I know I looked at him like one
- 14:11what are two opening days in a row but no fixed.
- 14:14No kidding. And who's pitching?
- 14:16Joe Ryan? Well, Joe Ryan for the Twins.
- 14:18Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right.
- 14:21And and, well, good stuff. We'll watch that.
- 14:23Joe. Appreciate the heads up. 3 1/2
- 14:25to one on Tyler O'Neill to make it 7 opening days in a row.
- 14:29Thanks, Joe. Appreciate it.
- 14:30Yeah, it is. Absolutely.
- 14:31See you, pal. Good to hear from you.
- 14:33Oh, by the way, there's baseball on NBC.
- 14:35There is, yes. I mean, this is great.
- 14:37What a way to kick it off with ball skeens on them.
- 14:39Peralta versus Skeens live from Citi Field.
- 14:43We were speculating before we went on the air.
- 14:45How about this? So we're talking about who the
- 14:46announcer is going to, because Bonetti is going to be the voice
- 14:48of Sunday Night Baseball, who's awesome.
- 14:50They're going to have a rotating analyst, so they go do a Mets
- 14:53game. It might be Keith Hernandez.
- 14:55Yeah. What?
- 14:56How cool. That'll be, that's what.
- 14:57They could do, I do remember you saying.
- 14:59That and you know, there's very few guys I think could do that
- 15:02outside of Jason Panetti. That's just the guy.
- 15:04Talk about talent. Just he is so accommodating, so
- 15:08understanding, he can mold himself.
- 15:11What's his weakness? He doesn't have.
- 15:14One I don't think he does. He is an incredible broadcaster,
- 15:17football, Westwood one and then, well, they needed him for CBS so
- 15:21he had to call in. The season was sick.
- 15:23Yes, he was on the SI Media podcast with Jimmy Trina today
- 15:28and was listening to his like well I had to ask my new bosses
- 15:31and they were OK with it so made that happen.
- 15:34Tigers baseball full time NBC Sunday night baseball college
- 15:38football? Is he ESPN for college football?
- 15:41Where was he? Was he at Fox FS1 or one of the
- 15:44one on Fox? He's he's fantastic.
- 15:48He truly is fantastic. So last night on Netflix, it
- 15:51was. So I never saw pitch.
- 15:53My wife had the TV and I was not.
- 15:54You can talk her out of. No, I couldn't.
- 15:56Whatever tried. Yes, yes.
- 15:59You tried it, didn't I? Did, didn't and and I think and
- 16:01by the time I no, I don't want to get into her personal life.
- 16:05I didn't win, you didn't win. So Veserjian had the call.
- 16:09He was with Henner Punts and CC Sabath Hunter.
- 16:11Pence, CC Sabathian, Math Vescarjian.
- 16:14And I had it on, but I just didn't.
- 16:15I mean, I'd pick anything up here and get kids run around and
- 16:18everything else and just have the volume down.
- 16:21Vescarjian calls angels broadcast I think is that.
- 16:24Where he is now, I think he is, yeah.
- 16:25And he's good, Yeah, yeah. But very solid.
- 16:28Where did? He start.
- 16:29Was he the batteries? No.
- 16:31I mean, where did we first see him?
- 16:33Didn't he? Wasn't there a sports show that
- 16:36has a real stupid Your sports stocks or you?
- 16:39The best damn sports. Show.
- 16:40That's it. OK, he was part of.
- 16:42That I think he hosted that. Yeah, he was with the Padres.
- 16:45That's where I remember him. He was with the Brewers.
- 16:47That was in fact, his first gig. 97 to old.
- 16:50How old do you think the Surgeon is?
- 16:52Well, if you say that was his first gig, so he's probably 25
- 16:55then. And that was 30 years ago, mid
- 17:0050s. Yeah, he's 58.
- 17:02I would have guessed like 52 because it feels maybe it's
- 17:05because he's always had a younger face.
- 17:07But did he host that damn sports show?
- 17:09I'm almost positive, yeah, that he was who?
- 17:10Was on that with him. Well, it was Tom Arnold.
- 17:13Yeah, I was I. Don't remember that.
- 17:14You don't remember Tom Arnold? I mean, I don't remember him
- 17:16being part of it. No, I don't think I ever watched
- 17:19it. I did a few times.
- 17:20Did you? Yeah, it was.
- 17:21Because I don't listen to sports talk radio and I don't watch
- 17:23those shows. We need to get a game of the
- 17:26week. I'm kind of scrolling through
- 17:27here. He was with ESPN for all but
- 17:29yeah, Angels the most recently. But anyway, he's the 1:00
- 17:32calling the NBC game now. This first one here SO.
- 17:35He's in New York. He went.
- 17:38He went from. San Fran San Fran caught a red
- 17:41eye. That had to be like a private
- 17:44plane, didn't it? I mean, there's no way.
- 17:46Chris Rose, thank you to. Chris Rose, That's another
- 17:49baseball guy, right? At least I think of it as.
- 17:51He is, yes. So.
- 17:53Chris Rose, I was absolutely baffled to see he was the one
- 17:57cuz I was like he's there now. Is Benetti going to be doing
- 17:59this game or they got another game coming up and he is doing
- 18:01the game tonight with the Dodgers and the D backs.
- 18:03That'll be on. Where do you?
- 18:04Where do you? Finding these announcers.
- 18:06Five O 6 sports where I find 6 sports where I find all the
- 18:08maps. Let's see.
- 18:10And what else do we have nationally?
- 18:11Nationally, nothing on tomorrow. Got a couple of Apple TV Plus
- 18:15games already. Yuck.
- 18:17Jesus, who's on Apple tomorrow? Let's see tomorrow Apple has the
- 18:22Angels at the Astros and the Guardians at the Mariners some
- 18:27good news also Speaking of baseball on TV and then we'll
- 18:31talk little Cyclones. We can't forget about that match
- 18:33up. After breaking down to Iowa and
- 18:36Nebraska, DIRECTV has signed a deal with all the teams that
- 18:42were kind of pending like they did last year with the Twins and
- 18:46the Rangers. And there's like a dozen.
- 18:47Of those, so it's up to 14 teams total I believe now is the
- 18:50number. But yeah, there was a press
- 18:52release that went out late last night.
- 18:54I retweeted it on the Miller and content account.
- 18:55If you are a DIRECTV subscribers, kind of not myself
- 18:58are. But if you were wondering what's
- 19:00MLBTV going to look like if I get extra headings package this
- 19:03year, am I going to be missing some teams?
- 19:05Not going to be the case. What about ESPN Plus?
- 19:09I don't know how that works together.
- 19:10I mean, it's something I'm going to have to play with because
- 19:12with ESPN Plus, you're supposed to get these games with MLBTV,
- 19:16but do you have to buy MLBTV on the site?
- 19:19I I don't know. It is very even for me who I
- 19:22consider myself pretty good at this stuff.
- 19:24It's a lot. It has a lot to figure out to
- 19:27simplify it as I go back to my old man stage, I'll just be able
- 19:31to flip on my TV, flip front, DIRECTV and be able to watch the
- 19:35Twins, the Brewers, the White Sox, the Cubs, the Cardinals and
- 19:38the Royals. And that's what I need.
- 19:41All right, so Iowa State, they will be at the United Center at
- 19:44some point here. I, I, I would think they may be
- 19:46on the floor right now. OK.
- 19:48They'll either be the, they'll either get the, the first
- 19:51opportunity or you know, the Tennessee will go 1st and Iowa
- 19:55State will go second. But regardless, I would think
- 19:58that we would get some Jefferson news.
- 20:01TJ yesterday, by the way, did you hear his opening press
- 20:04conference? I did, yes.
- 20:05And the before anybody even asked him the question, he
- 20:08wanted to start by saying he's Iowa State's head coach.
- 20:10Do you believe him? Yes I do.
- 20:14I don't believe any coach though that says anything.
- 20:19Well, I didn't. I heard Tommy Lloyd and I heard
- 20:21TJ Otzelberger. And when you put the two
- 20:24together, Tommy Lloyd, if you're an Arizona fan, you're a little
- 20:28nervous. I think if you're an Iowa State
- 20:29fan, I, I think he said the man, I, I think he, he calmed the
- 20:34nerves. Oh yeah.
- 20:36Absolutely. The only thing that would
- 20:38concern me, and I don't think he's going to North Carolina.
- 20:41I don't. And you said it earlier in the
- 20:44week and I didn't realize it was what, it's only $4 million.
- 20:47The buyout went the buyout, and it's not that it's just $4
- 20:50million. It was once 18 in his previous
- 20:53contract. The new contract, it was down to
- 20:55four. That is something that just
- 20:57lingers in the back of my mind, and I don't think that I'm
- 21:01alone. We've seen coaches say the exact
- 21:03same thing before. How many times do people say
- 21:05that Matt Campbell's never going to leave Ames?
- 21:07He left Ames. It's coaches in general.
- 21:11It's not an Iowa State thing. It has nothing to do with TJ
- 21:13Otzenberger. It's none of that.
- 21:14It's. Just coaches, with one
- 21:15exception. What's that?
- 21:17Iowa football? Kirk, two different times was
- 21:20very close. I know he.
- 21:22Kicked the tires, You're right. But he stayed.
- 21:24Yes, he stayed and it doesn't mean that TJ won't stay or will
- 21:28leave. It's just coaches in general.
- 21:30This is the business. And then we got Will Wade.
- 21:33Because how about this? Back to LSU with a strong ass
- 21:37offer apparently from the Tigers to go back there.
- 21:39So he's heading back there. You talk about two more
- 21:42unlikable coaches, Lane Kiffin and Will Wade.
- 21:47Try to find a better combination.
- 21:49Well, how about LSU and what they're selling with throwing
- 21:51the throwing women's hoops? Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 21:54Monkey. Yeah, How about that treasure
- 21:56trio early? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:00So I just texted Bill Seals to see what time they take the
- 22:02floor. Doctor Fuller texted me and said
- 22:04the home team goes second. So that would make sense.
- 22:06So Nebraska would be the lower seed.
- 22:09Higher. How do we is it a lower, higher?
- 22:12They're the four. I was the 9:00.
- 22:13So Nebraska goes second on the floor, which is why simple when
- 22:17we're talking to him, Nebraska will be doing going through
- 22:19their motions. We talked about this a lot this
- 22:21week, Tennessee. I think there's two big
- 22:23concerns. The first is the offensive
- 22:25rebounding, and certainly if Jefferson can't go or if he is
- 22:29limited, Jefferson is not a tremendous athlete.
- 22:34That's not the way that you would describe his game.
- 22:36He's incredibly skilled basketball player, but he's not
- 22:38a leaper. He's not a guy that jumps out of
- 22:40the gym. He's a solid rebounder.
- 22:42But Tennessee has size and athleticism up front and they
- 22:46rebound 44.8% of their misses. I mean, just think of that.
- 22:52You put a shot up on the rim and almost half the time they're
- 22:54getting the rebound. When this year did they play a
- 22:57team that exhibits the defensive prowess that Iowa State was
- 23:01there? Did they play Houston in Vegas?
- 23:03They did, and they beat them. And they beat Houston.
- 23:05They beat Houston. All right, well, that one that
- 23:07gets your attention. Absolutely the team.
- 23:10That was Vegas, very similar. The players are a tournament
- 23:13now, remember. Houston got off to a slow start.
- 23:14It wasn't just that lost, they had a couple other close calls
- 23:17that wasn't the same. They also lost to Kansas, lost
- 23:22to Syracuse, lost to Illinois in conference play.
- 23:26Looking at other teams. Kentucky beat him twice, right?
- 23:28Yes, they played Florida now it was in the O Dome close game
- 23:36Tennessee got throttled 9167. That is one that kind of makes
- 23:41you say and in that game they only had six offensive rebounds.
- 23:46Now, a bigger frontline, obviously Florida than what Iowa
- 23:48State has, but that's the component you look at.
- 23:51If Tennessee is making a couple of shots and getting offensive
- 23:54rebounds, all right, there's the path to victory for the balls.
- 23:57I don't think it's going to happen.
- 23:58I think the pressure that they're going to put on
- 24:01Gillespie, on Boswell, on A meant when he's got the ball a.
- 24:04Meant you can blow on him and he's going to fall over.
- 24:07He's 610 or six. 11205 lbs. That's skin and bones.
- 24:12He's talented though. No, he's a talented.
- 24:14He's a good player. I agree with you.
- 24:16He's a, he's a freshman. He's getting all these accolades
- 24:19for a reason, but he's kind of built like Wim Benon, just a
- 24:21little shorter, maybe a little skinnier.
- 24:24That's tough to do. It is.
- 24:25Yeah. And he's at 74.
- 24:27Right, as opposed to 6. Ten.
- 24:29Yeah, 6:10 That's six thatches a big, big difference.
- 24:32I think it's kind of simple. Like if Gillespie's really good
- 24:35and I want to see the same team of Lipsy we saw against
- 24:38Kentucky, well, that's be aggressive, right?
- 24:39Be aggressive. Don't.
- 24:43Don't settle. This is it.
- 24:45Oh Matt's fancy. It's going to be a long year 2.
- 24:48Nothing, nobody out first ending.
- 24:50The Pirates jumped on Peralta. Did you get your Pirates over
- 24:53bed on before the season? No, no.
- 24:56I did not, although I think they're going to finish third in
- 24:58a division. They're going to be better in
- 25:00Cincinnati. Yeah, I think they.
- 25:01Are did they finish second? Perhaps, but the Brewers always
- 25:05overachieve. We'll head to Houston next.
- 25:07Bobby Hansen standing by. I look forward to catching up
- 25:11with Bobby Hansen. That's next.
- 25:13In the second hour of the program, Carrie Miller from the
- 25:15Bleacher Report. We'll take a look at all the
- 25:17Sweet 16 games and then Stephen M Simple on Nebraska.
- 25:22Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 25:25I'm Millery Condon. Welcome back, Iowa Sports Radio
- 25:28Network, off to Houston momentarily just to answer the
- 25:31question that we were unsure of earlier.
- 25:33Iowa State hits the United Center floor for practice at
- 25:363:45 today, 3:45 to 4:00. So maybe some Jefferson news or
- 25:41some sightings at that time. Let's head to Houston.
- 25:44Bobby Hanson, analyst, men's basketball radio here on
- 25:48Learfield. Of course, flagship down the
- 25:49hall from us on News Radio 1040. WHO?
- 25:52What a run this has been. Bobby Hanson, good to talk to
- 25:55you. How are you?
- 25:57Yeah, everything's good. Ken on Trent.
- 25:59Yeah, just taking a break from shoot around.
- 26:02Started at 12 noon and everybody looks good.
- 26:06Ready to go? Excited for tonight?
- 26:07And you've seen shoot around all season long.
- 26:09Is there a difference with the Sweet 16?
- 26:11I mean, attitude wise or nerves wise?
- 26:15Have you noticed that at all? Is everybody Kibbitson?
- 26:18But yet at the same time focused on what lies ahead.
- 26:22Yeah, no, you have to be. And I think Coach McCallum does
- 26:25a great job with that. Obviously been been down this
- 26:28road before when you're a four time national champion.
- 26:30So he's not going to let the guys celebrate and, you know,
- 26:33think that the season is over. You've made it here.
- 26:36So they they're of the belief that they can advance, keep
- 26:40moving here. And yeah, I think they got a
- 26:43great shot tonight against a really, really good Nebraska
- 26:46team. So having the having the season
- 26:48of their of their history, I guess if you will.
- 26:51So be great to end it tonight for them.
- 26:54It's indeed. Bobby, you played for a lot of
- 26:57great coaches. Jerry Sloan, Lute Olson, you've
- 27:00been around a lot, certainly at the University of Iowa during
- 27:03your days now calling games. You know a lot of great coaches.
- 27:06What's different about Ben McCullum?
- 27:08I mean, everybody knows hoops. If you're not the head coach, if
- 27:10you don't know the game, but what makes Ben McCullum
- 27:12different in your mind than some of the great coaches that you've
- 27:15been around? Well, that's a good question.
- 27:18Tough question. Just being around him for the
- 27:21year. I think it's just been his his
- 27:25detail, his attention to detail on everything that that they do
- 27:30and mostly on the defensive end. And a lot of teaching goes into
- 27:34the practices. You know, they do their warm ups
- 27:37and then they go right into the defensive mode of of where
- 27:40you're positioning your feet, where your shoulders should be.
- 27:43What are you looking for? Here's how we're going to handle
- 27:46this certain action. So you better be paying
- 27:48attention. You better know the scouting
- 27:50report. So that's more so than any coach
- 27:52I think I've ever been around at Iowa and how, you know
- 27:55everybody, he has great scouts. But the attention to detail that
- 27:58Ben McCollum and his staff have put into these games, I think
- 28:01it's the reason why you're seeing, you know, a nine seed
- 28:04knockoff #1 Florida, because they thoroughly outplayed
- 28:08Florida. And you know, you got the win
- 28:09there at the end with a great shot by Alaro.
- 28:11But how about the Hawks dominated that, controlled that
- 28:15and earned it. No, no question about it.
- 28:18When you watch Bennett Sturtz play and, and as we do, you
- 28:21know, on TV, you know, I've granted your courtside the last
- 28:25couple of weeks seemingly hasn't gone his way offensively.
- 28:28It's one thing to play every single minute in the Valley.
- 28:30It's another thing to do so in the Big 10.
- 28:32I'm not knocking the Valley by any means, it's just a fact.
- 28:35Do you think that the big the rigors of the Big 10 May be
- 28:37catching up with Bennett a little bit, Bobby?
- 28:42No, no, no, I'm going to, I'm going to disagree with that.
- 28:44Kenny, respectfully. I, I, the kids in incredible
- 28:47shape. I mean, he never seems to get
- 28:48tired. I just think that the defenses
- 28:51are so geared up for him coming down the stretch at the end.
- 28:55Obviously here in the NCAA tournament, he's going to be at
- 28:58the top of the scouting reports and you know, teams have seen
- 29:01him now second-half of the season.
- 29:04It's like a pitcher when you get through those first 3 innings,
- 29:06now you see the guy come through again that you're more used to
- 29:09that that fastball. So I'm going to chalk it up to
- 29:11the that that there's a lot more tape on Bennett, see what he
- 29:15does. But you know, he's so unselfish.
- 29:18He maybe to a point that he needs to be a little more
- 29:22selfish. I tell him all the time, turn
- 29:24that corner, get to the basket, look for your shot there.
- 29:28And I talked to his dad. He agrees.
- 29:31So but Ben is not that way. He is the Ultimate Team player.
- 29:35Let's get everybody involved. And he he sees the court like an
- 29:39old teammate of mine, John Stockton.
- 29:42It seems like they're always a play or two plays ahead.
- 29:45They know exactly what they want to do and what's going to
- 29:47happen. And that's why he's so good.
- 29:50And of course, delivered the pass that led to Alvero fool
- 29:52Garris knocking the corner 3 down.
- 29:54Bobby, we're talking about it earlier.
- 29:56This is going to be likely a tight game.
- 29:58It's going to be one in the margins.
- 30:00It's going to be a one guy and you know it.
- 30:03I listen to the broadcast now. You can hear it in Dolph's voice
- 30:05a little bit more than yours would.
- 30:07You know, if you're going to get good Al or bad Al, is it as
- 30:10simple as that? If Alvaro, Alvaro, fool Garris
- 30:12goes out there and plays well here tonight, I was going to win
- 30:15it. And if he doesn't, it's going to
- 30:16be tough to pull out a victory. I mean, can we simplify it just
- 30:19that succinctly? I love you, Trent, but no on on
- 30:24one kid. Yeah, the, you know, he stepped
- 30:26up and made a huge shot, but in my notes here he is The X
- 30:30Factor. There's no doubt about it.
- 30:32I mean, yeah, I don't yeah, I don't think he's, you know, he
- 30:35he gets 0 points when he win the game.
- 30:37Yeah, or lose the game. You know, I don't think you're
- 30:40hanging on anybody, but I think the bench is huge and and that
- 30:44that is my third key to the to the game tonight.
- 30:47I I like Alvaro, obviously, and Isaiah Tate, Sage, I think it's
- 30:51come into his own. But they got a couple of guys on
- 30:53that other bench there, Frager and and Kale Jacobson, who hurt
- 30:56the Hawkeyes. They've hurt him in the past.
- 30:58Frager playing with tremendous confidence, 6th man of the year
- 31:00in the Big 10. And and Jacobson really beat
- 31:03Iowa in overtime over at Lincoln NE, the final game of the year.
- 31:06He hit two threes. Yeah.
- 31:08So you got to pay attention to those guys.
- 31:10So game like this, you're right though, Trent is in the margins.
- 31:14It's in the turnovers. You can't turn the ball over. 19
- 31:16turnovers over in Lincoln really cost the Hawks.
- 31:20You know, the overtime lost in that one.
- 31:21Just 12 when we were in Iowa City.
- 31:24You got the victory. Sam Hoiberg is another huge X
- 31:27Factor, I think. Yeah, 4 Nebraska.
- 31:30Yeah, the almost 5 to 1A sister turnover ratio.
- 31:33And, you know, just listen and watch.
- 31:36And, you know, if he gets in the paint, he causes a lot of
- 31:39problems. But you got to kind of hover
- 31:42over the top of Sam and he gets by you.
- 31:45He's he's 2 Sam Hoiberg, if you will.
- 31:47He can do a lot of things in there.
- 31:48But if you can contain him, you can you can cut his production
- 31:52in half. Speaking of Hoiberg, how is he
- 31:55such a good defender? I mean, yeah, he's built his
- 31:57body up as much as possible, but I mean, is it that?
- 32:00Is it something innate about him?
- 32:02Because he's tremendous, So many steals game in a game out.
- 32:05How is Hoiberg such a good defender?
- 32:07I think he's smart. He's a coach's son.
- 32:09You know, he's been around basketball, you know the angles,
- 32:11you know the plan, what you want to do.
- 32:14His strength certainly has helped him over the years.
- 32:16The last couple, three years we've seen Sam, you know, bulk
- 32:19up and he's a leader. You know, I think the kids
- 32:22respect him and they, he's the heart and soul of that team, to
- 32:25be honest with you. You know, he's always get some
- 32:27fired up. He doesn't really come off the
- 32:29floor very much. He uses his, you know, 6 foot
- 32:33height, you know, as a slight I guess.
- 32:36So he's always going to play with the chip on his shoulder,
- 32:38but he is certainly is a drive shaft to that team.
- 32:41But they've got a lot. I mean, it's been a special year
- 32:44for Nebraska rink mast. We like, you know, he's the
- 32:48outlet guy. He's a pressure relief valve for
- 32:50this offense. I mean, he's always at the top
- 32:52of the key and he can knock down that three pointer.
- 32:54You got to pay attention to him. DeMarcus Lawrence can go off for
- 32:58big numbers as well. And then the kid from Turkey
- 33:01Burke, but you've been child. He's tough.
- 33:04He's a tough out inside. So he's always going to be
- 33:06scrapping for balls. So it's going to be a great
- 33:09game. I don't think it's going to be a
- 33:10high scoring game. I think you'd probably get low
- 33:1470s at the high point of this. You're probably going to be in
- 33:17the 60s for the game. But it it's going to be who can
- 33:20take care of the ball the most. And probably again, like
- 33:23everything rebounds, you got to rebound the ball.
- 33:25You can't give them extra possession.
- 33:26So and make your make your 3 pointers.
- 33:28You watch all these games and NCAA, the teams making three
- 33:31pointers, they're hard to beat in the tournament.
- 33:33Indeed, Bryce Sanford makes a bunch of them.
- 33:35You watch them as a freshman, as and as sophomore.
- 33:38Did you think he had this level of this next step in his game as
- 33:42he's obviously taken this year, Bobby?
- 33:44Yeah, you don't know, you know, love Peyton and everything he
- 33:48brought to the Hawkeyes. To me, Price was just the guy
- 33:51Next up. He was the one that's going to,
- 33:53you know, be the get that ball like Peyton was getting it, but
- 33:56you know, made the decision to move on and, and, and, and
- 34:00that's what it is. But great kid, great family,
- 34:02happy for his success every time he Tees it up other than against
- 34:06Iowa. So he's key #2 on my, on my list
- 34:10of key. You can't let him get going
- 34:12early because I, I think he's, he's kind of the, the confidence
- 34:16booster for that team. If he starts making a couple
- 34:18threes early, then they get rolling, the fans get rolling
- 34:21and everybody feels good. So you're in the Sweet 16 for
- 34:25the first time since you made a trip down to Phoenix to take on
- 34:28the team that won the national championship that here, UConn.
- 34:31This has been a long 27 years and you've been there on the
- 34:34sideline for all of it. What did it mean for you, for
- 34:38the basketball alumni, for Hawkeye fans as we look back at
- 34:41this 27 year drought now to be back there playing in the second
- 34:44weekend? Yeah, it it means a ton for all
- 34:48the all the guys that have been a part of this.
- 34:50And you know, that recent team there from 99, I remember that
- 34:55team with Dean Oliver, Jeff Settles and McCausland and Jr.
- 34:59and they were in a tough situation there with Doctor Tom
- 35:03not being renewed. They kind of knew that this was
- 35:05going to be the last go round and they had a tough Rd.
- 35:09I mean, when they played in Denver in the altitude and you
- 35:11had to go against Arkansas in that round of 32 game and Dean
- 35:16Oliver comes up with the flu. I don't know if people realize
- 35:20that, but he was, he suffered through that and chatted with
- 35:23him a little bit of host Michael Jordan flu game.
- 35:26So just, you know, in his ear the whole day, tell him, hey,
- 35:30Jordan did it, you can do it, come out here, we need you.
- 35:33He was he was phenomenal going against the full court pressure
- 35:36from Arkansas that game. And then for them to to do that
- 35:40for each other and do that for doctor Tom was incredible.
- 35:42And you get the Phoenix and and you know, next week 16 against
- 35:45Khalid Alameen. They were a good team.
- 35:48Connecticut was at that time, but the Hawks made a great run.
- 35:50So this is kind of what you want Iowa basketball to be moving
- 35:55forward. You're always got that
- 35:56opportunity in the Sweet 16 and beyond.
- 35:59Then you got to get further than this.
- 36:01Indeed you do, and there's certainly an opportunity and if
- 36:04they do, they'll play the winner of Illinois and Houston.
- 36:06What's the building going to be like tonight, Bobby?
- 36:08Obviously it's a home game for Houston.
- 36:10They're 2.1 mile from the Toyota Center to campus.
- 36:13Apparently. Illinois fans, I think are going
- 36:16to travel. We know what Nebraska fans do.
- 36:18They've been saving up for basketball for a long time for
- 36:21this and Iowa fans are engaged. What's the building going to be
- 36:24like tonight, do you think? Yeah, it's going to be crazy.
- 36:26I think there's going to be a lot of red.
- 36:27You don't know it's going to be Houston or off colored orange
- 36:30for Illinois, but there'll be plenty of Hawkeyes in here.
- 36:33They sold their allotment those 600 tickets kind of everybody
- 36:36else is off on their own. And looking at the ticket app
- 36:40that I have here, some of the prices are outrageous for this
- 36:44game. So, you know, travel is
- 36:45difficult now in the airport, you know, I don't know, I guess
- 36:48people hop in their cars and get down here and have a good time.
- 36:51Weather's terrific, obviously. So we'll wait to see, but I
- 36:55guarantee you, you'll hear some. Let's go Hawk chance in the
- 36:58building here tonight. Good stuff, Bobby.
- 36:59Thanks for jumping on giving us a few minutes.
- 37:01Appreciate the relationship. Bobby Hanson, thank you.
- 37:04OK, man. Yeah.
- 37:05Thank you. Good to talk to you.
- 37:06Bobby Hanson, we check in with from Houston and I'm glad you
- 37:11asked that question. Obviously it means a lot to
- 37:12everybody that wore the uniform and and clearly long older
- 37:16hockey fans, right? It's been 27 years.
- 37:20If you were a kid, if you were 40, you're getting up there.
- 37:23Absolutely. I mean, I tell you, the memories
- 37:26of 87, but those are faint memories.
- 37:27That's the age Jack is right now, and they are etched into my
- 37:33memory. And the UNLV lost and spring
- 37:37down to my room and just bawling and couldn't stop crying because
- 37:41Iowa was that close to a Final Four.
- 37:44My mom rubbing my back. It'll be OK.
- 37:47Roy, Ed, BJ, they're just sophomores.
- 37:49They'll make a Final Four. My mom's a liar.
- 37:52Maybe it changes this? Year it certainly could.
- 37:55Trent there. Two games.
- 37:57There's a couple of twos, but mostly one and a halfs on the
- 38:00betting market everywhere. This is a coin flip game.
- 38:02It's been a coin flip game both times they played this year.
- 38:05It looked like Nebraska was going to open up on them when
- 38:07over in Lincoln and here come the Hawkeyes and off the
- 38:10overtime we go. And what'd they outscore him
- 38:12like 14 to 6 or something in overtime, something like that.
- 38:17It was, it was Cale Jacobson of all people, right?
- 38:20Do you remember him this year? Yeah, a few, few times, but not,
- 38:23not not like that though, right. Yeah.
- 38:26I gotta watch Jacobson when Bobby's got him in his notes and
- 38:29I don't blame him after he saw what first hand.
- 38:31I'm saying watch Frager. Man, and you and you, you're
- 38:34Frager. Frager's your fear who won
- 38:38Pirates Mets based our bits are no, not bases of runners on 1st
- 38:41and 2nd. Luis Robert at the plate for all
- 38:44Kind of love baseball. For all the pirate fans that
- 38:46enlisted right now. I just love it.
- 38:49But you got a long summer. 184 days of baseball Trent ahead of
- 38:53us. A lot of bad baseball for me.
- 38:57I I wonder in the end, will I end up watching more Cubs
- 39:01baseball than the Twins? Yes, probably.
- 39:03So you'll give, I will. I think you'll give up.
- 39:05What's what was their win total to Twins?
- 39:07Do you know? Was it it couldn't have been in
- 39:09the 70s, Was it? Oh yeah, it was in the 70s.
- 39:12How many games you think? It was like 78 1/2.
- 39:14It was. Yeah, it was.
- 39:16Asinine. That's a free square.
- 39:18Yeah, they're going to sell off the ownership group is broke.
- 39:22They had to bring in new investors, the pole ads.
- 39:24Then they they get one rid of one of the idiots and they bring
- 39:27in another idiot and you we're going to do things differently.
- 39:29And then they fake that they're going to go out after Framber
- 39:32Valdez and that that was blatant lie.
- 39:33It just on the heels of one of your first playoff series in 19
- 39:39years. And your race, by the way, is
- 39:40out for the year. And you're tearing it down and
- 39:42you're tearing it down but it's slow tear down.
- 39:45Just RIP off the Band-Aid and sell the DMT.
- 39:48Speaking of that, Speaking of ripping off the Band-Aid is is
- 39:50Iowa State women's basketball program.
- 39:52Are they? I mean.
- 39:54I can't get a read I I really can't.
- 39:58I talked to. A friend of mine who's got who's
- 40:02a part of a group of, I would say women's season ticket
- 40:05holders and they've been doing, they've been season ticket
- 40:07holders for forever and they're the same way.
- 40:10They can't get read 1 minute they think Oddie's gone, the
- 40:14next minute they think maybe she stays.
- 40:18Does it matter for Fenley? Is this he's on a one year deal?
- 40:23Right. How do you get players?
- 40:27Do you get a whole bunch of 1 and done that's.
- 40:29That's what it's got to be, right?
- 40:30I mean, that's the direction to be.
- 40:31Seniors, that's what you get and maybe compliment it with some,
- 40:35but he's gone and there's no way power is going to extend.
- 40:38No. Absolutely not.
- 40:39There's no chance in hell. That's going to happen and the
- 40:42succession plan. What is it right?
- 40:44If it's Billy, well, that's kind of tough to swallow.
- 40:47Was. Power being tone deaf yesterday
- 40:49when he you know, very quickly after T JS announcement, he came
- 40:53out and said, see, our coach isn't going No boy, they're
- 40:55again they're hammering skeens. That's a three run double.
- 40:58But was it tone deaf? Just, you know, sing strolling
- 41:01the virtues of TJS and men basketball.
- 41:04Meanwhile, there's a fire A5 alarm fire in the women's
- 41:07program. At minimum, it felt weird,
- 41:09right? It did.
- 41:10Yeah, it felt raised the room. Yes, right.
- 41:14Perfect. Yes, absolutely.
- 41:16Skeens getting clobbered, Miller and Condon back.
- 41:18To wrap up our number one, it's the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 41:201252 as we wrap up our number one, it's Miller and Condon on
- 41:24the Iowa Sports Radio Network flagship one O 6.3 KX Sedona.
- 41:28Shout out to Cedar Rapids, IA city, the Quad Cities in Sioux
- 41:31City along the way. Mr. Miller.
- 41:34Yes, all of the affiliates were. I'm glad you're part of the Iowa
- 41:37Sports Radio Network. Paul Skeens is out of the game.
- 41:41Paul Skeens is out of the game. Didn't Vinick get through the
- 41:441st inning? And he was grooving some, those
- 41:47were. His strikeout total prop was 4
- 41:521/2. Pretty safe under not.
- 41:56Going to get there. Not going to get there.
- 41:58In fact, that's that's wild. That's wild.
- 42:01All right, What are the other games tonight?
- 42:03Have you even looked? I mean, I get why we're so
- 42:05focused on this one. Do you have you even looked at
- 42:07the other game? Yeah, yeah.
- 42:08Is there one that. Well, sure.
- 42:10The Illinois Houston, I mean, assuming it goes well for the
- 42:13Hawks, we get the winner, We get the winner that.
- 42:16Look at you. You're also wrapped into these
- 42:18these two Iowa teams. You're off your Husker love
- 42:21look. I never was a Husker fan.
- 42:23I'm a fan of what moves the needles and when I when I was
- 42:25stater playing. Well, it's good for our
- 42:27business, man. I want to see Arkansas, Arizona.
- 42:30Do you like Arkansas? I'm wrapped up in Arkansas.
- 42:34Jacob. That and I'm invested in them
- 42:38also, but I just think this is a terrible.
- 42:40I don't think they can beat Arizona.
- 42:41I think they can keep it close. And if it's close, then you feel
- 42:45good. I just have a concert.
- 42:47It's going to go the other way. They're just, they're just so
- 42:50big inside. Brazil's hurt.
- 42:53Just it feels like a lot. They're going to throw Bradley
- 42:55and they're going to turn the length and Bury's is going to be
- 42:58on him and his length. I I think the match up sucks for
- 43:02Arkansas and again go back to a Florida game just two weeks ago
- 43:06they gave up with 111 to the Gators and Arizona is built very
- 43:11similar. Like 111 to 70.
- 43:13Something like that. It's.
- 43:15Not. Going to be that, but I think
- 43:19it's more likely that they get blown out by 20, that they win
- 43:23the game. Texas Purdue.
- 43:26Part of Texas love, but I like Purdue as well.
- 43:28Yeah, Purdue roles. I think they do.
- 43:30I think. They're figuring it out, putting
- 43:32it all together. Veteran guards absolutely And
- 43:36Texas look, that path was not exactly arduous no I.
- 43:40I'm with you. That's but that's not 11 seed.
- 43:43BYU without their third best player.
- 43:46Yeah, oh boy. Alright, that's going to do for
- 43:49our #1 Kerry Miller on the Sweet 16.
- 43:52Steven Simple, Nebraska point of view on the Big One tonight.
- 43:55Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
