- 3:39Speaker 2: You guys.
- 3:40Speaker 6: So it is Thursday night, and I'm bringing you a
- 3:43Speaker 6: new author and a new book like I always did.
- 3:47Speaker 6: So we're gonna step in the world of words. Everybody
- 3:53Speaker 6: knows words are very powerful. I always remember my grandma
- 3:56Speaker 6: telling me that words are life and you give them spirits. Okay,
- 4:01Speaker 6: worst dictate your life. Little do you know that you
- 4:06Speaker 6: have to speak life into yourself, into your situation, into
- 4:10Speaker 6: anything that you do. So I have oft of the night.
- 4:13Speaker 6: It's going to talk about his book entitled Life Between
- 4:17Speaker 6: the Words. His name is off the Nolan Holloway, so
- 4:21Speaker 6: we're gonna bring him up and he's gonna introduce himself
- 4:24Speaker 6: to you guys.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So come on up here. I am how you doing it?
- 4:29Speaker 3: I am so sorry for trees. I got my days
- 4:32Speaker 3: mixed up. I had a meeting earlier today, hobum why
- 4:36Speaker 3: I was thinking Saturday, but today's just but you called
- 4:40Speaker 3: me just that time to come on.
- 4:45Speaker 6: And it is partially my fault because I looked at
- 4:48Speaker 6: the flyer and I was like, hold up, that says Saturday,
- 4:52Speaker 6: and that's what I emailed, okay, And I was like,
- 4:59Speaker 6: my producer said, hey, you knew your fire said Saturday.
- 5:02Speaker 6: I said, but he just said I'm gonna call him
- 5:04Speaker 6: on Facebook.
- 5:06Speaker 3: You did because I had I did look at I
- 5:10Speaker 3: didn't look at the day. I just looked at the day,
- 5:12Speaker 3: not the day, but that I am.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I am so honored to have you tonight.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I appreciate the invitation. I appreciate the invitation. Anytime I
- 5:24Speaker 3: got a chance to share my books, I truly truly
- 5:27Speaker 3: look forward to it because poetry is an acquired taste.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Everybody they read novels, fiction, non fiction, but poetry is
- 5:37Speaker 3: something that you know. Because most of my audience are women.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I noticed that who buys my books. It's women between
- 5:48Speaker 3: young to middle age. Not some guys do, but it's
- 5:52Speaker 3: mostly women because you know, you guys have that affinity,
- 5:56Speaker 3: the empathy for the word.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So yes, So.
- 6:03Speaker 6: That's that's crazy, because oh wow, you just I mean,
- 6:10Speaker 6: I never thought of it that way that women are
- 6:13Speaker 6: most likely to be the ones to buy books on poetry.
- 6:19Speaker 6: Do you think there's anything we can do about that
- 6:22Speaker 6: to draw a male audience.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I have a small number of males that read my
- 6:28Speaker 3: book that that have purchased my books. I just think
- 6:32Speaker 3: it's a mindset for you know, obviously there's been a
- 6:39Speaker 3: lot of African American male poets. Lacey Hughes is one
- 6:42Speaker 3: of my favorites. There are a number of others. But
- 6:46Speaker 3: I guess it's just the society the way it is now.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Women tend to read more for whatever reason, We guys
- 6:55Speaker 3: don't pick up books that often, or if we are,
- 6:58Speaker 3: we're more into the movies, or if we do read,
- 7:05Speaker 3: it's referencing to sports. It's a little short, shorter type
- 7:09Speaker 3: of media. I come put up to sports pages or
- 7:12Speaker 3: something like that. It's because I was an average reader
- 7:14Speaker 3: when I was younger, but I kind of lost that
- 7:17Speaker 3: because I just started writing poetry until I was in
- 7:20Speaker 3: my fifties.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Yes, wow, And you know what what you're saying is
- 7:26Speaker 6: absolutely true because I work at a library and I
- 7:28Speaker 6: do see that when it does come to mail readership
- 7:33Speaker 6: in the library, it's sports.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Historical fiction, right.
- 7:39Speaker 6: And I have a small segment of Caucasian men that
- 7:46Speaker 6: will read the murder mysteries.
- 7:49Speaker 2: But as for yeah, I.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Used to like reading like the Agatha Christie's and the
- 7:57Speaker 3: books and the fantasy well, like all of the rings.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I enjoy those as well.
- 8:03Speaker 6: Yes, so you're right, see now me you might have
- 8:07Speaker 6: to talk again, because I would love to know from
- 8:10Speaker 6: a male author how we can increase readership within the
- 8:16Speaker 6: African American male community.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I think that poetry is an emotional expression, and my
- 8:25Speaker 3: hope is that more men would be empathetic. A lot
- 8:29Speaker 3: of guys are raised is not just as African American men,
- 8:33Speaker 3: just men in general, to kind of not be as transparent,
- 8:38Speaker 3: not really open our feelings or share our feelings. In
- 8:41Speaker 3: poetry is very much a genre. When you write, you're
- 8:47Speaker 3: pulling from yourself and you're making us vulnerable. And I
- 8:53Speaker 3: think a lot of males tend to think that, oh,
- 8:55Speaker 3: if I write words or read words like that, I'm
- 8:58Speaker 3: going to be viewed in a certain manner, like you know,
- 9:02Speaker 3: you were a group of guys with shooting pool or
- 9:04Speaker 3: having a couple of beers at the at the hometowns
- 9:07Speaker 3: or whatever, and they said, read what's the last book
- 9:09Speaker 3: you read? Man? I read this great poetry book. And
- 9:12Speaker 3: what kind of responts do you think you're gonna You're
- 9:14Speaker 3: gonna get some sniggas and maybe yes, things like that.
- 9:19Speaker 3: It's opposed to like, you know, I just read this
- 9:21Speaker 3: this uh James Bond novel, or I just read this
- 9:27Speaker 3: adventure type book is opposed to I read a book
- 9:30Speaker 3: of poetry. Not to say that, you know, they'll be
- 9:34Speaker 3: considered soft or but it's emotional and a lot of
- 9:38Speaker 3: men haven't really tapped into that aspect of their personalities.
- 9:44Speaker 6: Yeah, they're not ready to be vulnerable. But just totally understanding.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Totally understanding. I have a twenty one year old son,
- 9:51Speaker 6: totally understanding.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Oh okay, okay.
- 9:56Speaker 2: So tell us a little bit more about yourself.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Born and raised in New York City. I grew up
- 10:04Speaker 3: in Queens, New York, did my grade school, elementary school,
- 10:12Speaker 3: came up mother and father and the household. Learned a
- 10:16Speaker 3: lot about hands on work from my dad. He worked
- 10:19Speaker 3: a regular nine to five, but he did sidework on
- 10:23Speaker 3: the weekends. And he was the type of man that
- 10:26Speaker 3: if he wanted to learn something. He was hands on.
- 10:29Speaker 3: If he wanted to learn mechanic work on a car.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Our neighbor was a GM mechanic. My father would go
- 10:35Speaker 3: over to his house and learn. So because I'm not
- 10:38Speaker 3: paying anybody if I could do it. He was one
- 10:40Speaker 3: of those type of guys. And my brother and I, yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 3: we had some free time, but most of our time
- 10:45Speaker 3: was spent building cabinets. My dad would build cabinets, he
- 10:51Speaker 3: would refurbish and remodel homes, things like us. I have
- 10:55Speaker 3: a lot of knowledge of that, but it was kind
- 10:57Speaker 3: of pushed on us. So now I have the knowledge
- 11:00Speaker 3: of it, but I do a little bit here and there.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Went to college State University of New York, graduated, met
- 11:10Speaker 3: my first wife in college, started a family, and the
- 11:14Speaker 3: transition through that phase number of jobs. I graduated with
- 11:20Speaker 3: a Bachelor of Science and business management. Kind of didn't
- 11:25Speaker 3: go on my field at first, but then finally got
- 11:27Speaker 3: into business and ended up working at MTV in the
- 11:30Speaker 3: infancy stages of that cable channel. That was a nine
- 11:34Speaker 3: year career. Enjoyed it at first again cultural things. MTV
- 11:41Speaker 3: was about totally rock and roll. I can remember the
- 11:45Speaker 3: first videos they had of people that looked like us.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Whitney Houston on VH one and Michael Jackson on MTV
- 11:55Speaker 3: were the first crossover artists because they totally, for whatever reason,
- 12:01Speaker 3: great company to work for, but they were kind of cold,
- 12:04Speaker 3: reskewed to a certain audience. But that position got me
- 12:10Speaker 3: basically the opportunity to move from New York to Atlanta, Georgia.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Okay, wow.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Once I moved up, worked here, worked at MTV for
- 12:24Speaker 3: a couple more years, went through a layoff period, decided
- 12:27Speaker 3: to stay, raised my family here, my daughter and son
- 12:32Speaker 3: raised here in Georgia, growing obviously now and end up.
- 12:38Speaker 3: You know, life does life. Went through a divorce and
- 12:42Speaker 3: transitioned through. So I've always been faith based. My mother
- 12:47Speaker 3: grew up in the Baptist church. You know, you notice
- 12:52Speaker 3: patrees you in the church, but then you kind of
- 12:54Speaker 3: drift away and do the world stuff and you gravitate
- 12:59Speaker 3: hopefully back to that you'll never forget. You know, they
- 13:03Speaker 3: sow the seeds, but then you got to come to
- 13:06Speaker 3: that remembrance and got back into that. God kind of
- 13:10Speaker 3: touched me through some difficult times in my life. I'm
- 13:14Speaker 3: kind of as exchanged from my children. But as I
- 13:17Speaker 3: began to come back to him. We made reconnections, which
- 13:22Speaker 3: was a blessing. He had to deal with me on
- 13:24Speaker 3: a number of issues, but he quieted my life so
- 13:27Speaker 3: much that I had to listen to what he had
- 13:30Speaker 3: to say because I was busy doing this, doing that.
- 13:33Speaker 3: He took all that away homeless, but was in a
- 13:36Speaker 3: situation where just enough finances to get to work and
- 13:41Speaker 3: maintain an apartment with a little bit of furniture. So
- 13:44Speaker 3: he says, now I have your attention. But I always
- 13:48Speaker 3: knew who he was, even as a young man in
- 13:52Speaker 3: my preteen years toward Sunday school, was a walking deacon
- 13:56Speaker 3: at twelve years old, taught adult So I was on fire,
- 14:01Speaker 3: but my life kind of drew me away because I
- 14:05Speaker 3: was like, things was happening to me, and I'm like, God,
- 14:07Speaker 3: if I'm doing what you called me to do, why
- 14:10Speaker 3: is my life like this? Which caused me to drift
- 14:13Speaker 3: away from the faith. And I know all the people
- 14:15Speaker 3: probably have similar stories to that as well. But thank
- 14:19Speaker 3: Goodness that I was able to come full circle and
- 14:26Speaker 3: basically come back and start having faith and start getting
- 14:30Speaker 3: back into the Word. And at fifty one, out of nowhere,
- 14:36Speaker 3: poetry just came just flowed out of me from no
- 14:40Speaker 3: IB At work, I'm sitting at my desk, I'm at
- 14:43Speaker 3: lunch time. I'm writing poetry, I'm dreaming poetry, and I'm
- 14:47Speaker 3: just writing writing. And the first way that happened, I
- 14:51Speaker 3: had over two hundred poems. Oh wow, in word and
- 14:55Speaker 3: written and in word. Because I'm pretty computer savvage, I
- 14:59Speaker 3: was putting all in there. So the next thing is okay,
- 15:02Speaker 3: what do I do with this? You know, share with family, friends.
- 15:05Speaker 3: They said, wow, this is not bad, this is pretty good.
- 15:09Speaker 3: But I'm like, I really didn't know what direction to
- 15:12Speaker 3: go in, so prayed about it and shared one of
- 15:17Speaker 3: my pieces with a friend of mine. Well, first thing
- 15:20Speaker 3: is God on social media. Knew really nothing about Facebook
- 15:24Speaker 3: and all the other This is pre x, pre Twitter,
- 15:29Speaker 3: pre Instagram. Facebook was the one, and a friend said,
- 15:32Speaker 3: you know, you need to be on Facebook. I'm like,
- 15:34Speaker 3: what's Facebook? I thought Facebook was for young people to
- 15:38Speaker 3: connect and chat and I'm over here, I am in
- 15:41Speaker 3: my fifties. I said that's not for me. But once
- 15:45Speaker 3: I started to get into it, I noticed that there
- 15:48Speaker 3: was a poetry groups. I'm like, wow, okay, well let
- 15:53Speaker 3: me post some of my work and see what happens,
- 15:58Speaker 3: so I would post. I was a little nervous, of
- 16:01Speaker 3: course at first, because well, I found this group and
- 16:04Speaker 3: I posted two pieces I just chose. I said, Okay,
- 16:07Speaker 3: I think piece are good, let me post them. And
- 16:11Speaker 3: took a couple of days, but I got a response
- 16:14Speaker 3: I never Her name is Iris. She responded to one
- 16:17Speaker 3: of the first pieces, and she didn't just didn't like it.
- 16:21Speaker 3: She gave me a critique of the and they really
- 16:25Speaker 3: resonated with me because here's somebody that she's a phenomenal
- 16:29Speaker 3: poet sharing her wisdom, telling me, oh, I see you know, wow,
- 16:34Speaker 3: this is pretty good. You need to write outside of yourself.
- 16:38Speaker 3: So what I did was I started gathering all the
- 16:40Speaker 3: poetry that I had written and praying about it, thinking
- 16:45Speaker 3: about it, and the theme came for my first book,
- 16:50Speaker 3: and I used to shoot pool. We need to shoot
- 16:53Speaker 3: as yet used to the fellows used to always shoot
- 16:56Speaker 3: pool on Fridays, and we always always used to say, Hey,
- 17:00Speaker 3: what's the rotation for tonight? They said, oh, we're going
- 17:03Speaker 3: to get together about eight thirty issue Pool. And then
- 17:06Speaker 3: that's when the first title came into my rotation, A
- 17:10Speaker 3: Collection of Scribes and that's what he that was just
- 17:16Speaker 3: a collection of poetry written to my life experience, and
- 17:20Speaker 3: I didn't want to do chapters because everybody else chapter one,
- 17:23Speaker 3: chapter two. I did rotations, spiritualization, introspective rotation, romantic rotation,
- 17:31Speaker 3: anything that I was dealing with with by life. I
- 17:34Speaker 3: noticed from just looking at those different poems, each group
- 17:39Speaker 3: of poems slipped into one of those rotations. So that's
- 17:43Speaker 3: how I put the book together. Now here's the other
- 17:45Speaker 3: part of Trees. What do I do with it? I'm
- 17:48Speaker 3: sharing it online of getting really good feedback. And a
- 17:52Speaker 3: friend of mine I used to work with, why don't
- 17:54Speaker 3: you write a book? Oh? Never thought about right a book?
- 17:58Speaker 3: How do you do? Googled and went on things. But
- 18:02Speaker 3: some of these places wereas out of my budget exactly.
- 18:07Speaker 3: With one of the places I went to and I
- 18:09Speaker 3: think to give a book published, they wanted between eight
- 18:13Speaker 3: to ten thousand dollars, which I knew I didn't have
- 18:16Speaker 3: that kind of money, So time out.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Yeah, eight to ten thousand dollars to publish the publisher
- 18:26Speaker 6: of book.
- 18:27Speaker 3: That was really I didn't know about Amazon, KDP where
- 18:31Speaker 3: you could sell because I still again I'm learning about
- 18:35Speaker 3: the process because I didn't know right that god Works
- 18:41Speaker 3: reached out. I don't know how. Oh, on social media,
- 18:45Speaker 3: reconnected with a friend in New York. She just so
- 18:49Speaker 3: happens to start her own small publishing company. But she did,
- 18:55Speaker 3: but it's a nonfiction. I don't know if you know
- 18:59Speaker 3: the group Full four US back in the eighties, there
- 19:01Speaker 3: were a huge group out of New.
- 19:03Speaker 6: York old legging Lou and yes.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Well she knew. They went to college together. So she
- 19:11Speaker 3: did an autographical book on Full Force. And that's the
- 19:16Speaker 3: type of books that she was Those are the type
- 19:18Speaker 3: of books that she was publishing. And I said, well, Beverly,
- 19:21Speaker 3: I write poetry. Well, she said, well, why don't you
- 19:24Speaker 3: do this? Send me three of your best pieces and
- 19:27Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. So I just went through all
- 19:30Speaker 3: the poetry I had pulled out the three ones that
- 19:34Speaker 3: hit me again holy spirit giving me. Picked this one,
- 19:39Speaker 3: this one, and I sent them to her. And a
- 19:41Speaker 3: couple of days later she contacted me. She said, did
- 19:45Speaker 3: you write this? I said, yeah, I'm the one that
- 19:48Speaker 3: wrote this. She said, these are very very good. Let
- 19:51Speaker 3: you and I go over the contract and I want
- 19:55Speaker 3: to get your book published. And that was my first book.
- 19:59Speaker 3: And then here's the the beautiful part of the story
- 20:03Speaker 3: when you know you order your author copies to my
- 20:09Speaker 3: job because I don't want to ship them to my
- 20:11Speaker 3: apartment because you know, Porsch pirates and all of that,
- 20:14Speaker 3: books come walk away. The day my first grandchild was
- 20:19Speaker 3: born was the day that I received the copies. Ah,
- 20:25Speaker 3: that was like a validation of Okay, God gave me
- 20:30Speaker 3: this gift and now getting a validation of the gift
- 20:34Speaker 3: by the books arriving or the same day she was born,
- 20:37Speaker 3: not the same hour, but the same now.
- 20:40Speaker 2: That is awesome.
- 20:43Speaker 6: So poetry words has changed your life? What kind of
- 20:49Speaker 6: effect do you want your book Life Between the Words
- 20:53Speaker 6: to have on others?
- 20:55Speaker 3: Well, Life between the Words came from. And you may
- 20:58Speaker 3: have to excuse me because I thought I had a
- 21:00Speaker 3: I would need to go get a copy if I
- 21:02Speaker 3: want to read a piece. Basically that book came from
- 21:06Speaker 3: I had some things happened in my life, and I
- 21:09Speaker 3: had an exchange daughter that lived in Pennsylvania. I hadn't
- 21:12Speaker 3: seen her since she was a small child. Really didn't
- 21:18Speaker 3: keep intil that. The mother kind of went on with
- 21:20Speaker 3: my life and et cetera. And she reached out to me.
- 21:23Speaker 3: She's like, I don't I want to understand who I am.
- 21:25Speaker 3: I just had my mother's side. I never heard your side.
- 21:28Speaker 3: So she and I begin to talk and we reconnected.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Found out that she also wrote poetry. Didn't know that,
- 21:37Speaker 3: and she was in the process of going from Pennsylvania
- 21:41Speaker 3: to NYU to start her college career. Unfortunately, about a
- 21:46Speaker 3: week before she was a goal to New York, she
- 21:49Speaker 3: was tragically killed. And to this day we helped her
- 21:52Speaker 3: mother and I really don't know how she died, and
- 21:57Speaker 3: I've about it. I prayed about it. Holy Spirit said
- 22:01Speaker 3: these are things that maybe one day, maybe not on
- 22:04Speaker 3: their side, even on the other side, it'll be revealed
- 22:07Speaker 3: to you exactly what happened. So I had to come
- 22:09Speaker 3: to grips with that. So I was dealing with that
- 22:11Speaker 3: in my own way. Then my brother, basically fun guy.
- 22:18Speaker 3: He said, boy, I used to live right across the
- 22:20Speaker 3: street from Barbecue every weekend. He was a typtoo diabetic,
- 22:24Speaker 3: but he kept it hidden and it became full blown
- 22:30Speaker 3: where I went to see him because he used to
- 22:32Speaker 3: come to play pool with us because the friend circle.
- 22:36Speaker 3: He lived right next to the hat the pool table
- 22:38Speaker 3: right and I went to see him and Patrice, I
- 22:41Speaker 3: couldn't believe how much weight he lost because he had
- 22:46Speaker 3: the symptoms but he was ignoring them. And when I
- 22:51Speaker 3: saw him, it shocked me to see how much weight
- 22:54Speaker 3: he had lost. And a week after that happened, he passed.
- 23:00Speaker 3: This is like my daughter, maybe the year before. Then
- 23:04Speaker 3: after that my brother. Then my mother was going through
- 23:08Speaker 3: her or deal with cancer, which went into dementia, which
- 23:12Speaker 3: went into Alzheimer's where I used to stalk to my
- 23:17Speaker 3: mom every day when I used to drive off from work.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I loved having my car because I had the mobile
- 23:22Speaker 3: where I could just go call Mom and they were
- 23:25Speaker 3: dials the number I can drive and talk to her.
- 23:28Speaker 3: She got to the point she didn't even know who
- 23:30Speaker 3: I was, and my sister was a primary caregiver. This
- 23:34Speaker 3: is when she was in New York. So I fire
- 23:38Speaker 3: up when I could to spend time, but my sister
- 23:41Speaker 3: was her primary caregiver. My sister ended up moving to Georgia,
- 23:45Speaker 3: but about an hour away from me, so she took
- 23:48Speaker 3: care of my mom. I did what I could, and
- 23:51Speaker 3: she just got to the point, like the end stages
- 23:53Speaker 3: of Alzheimer's, they forget how to swallow. My sister, we
- 23:58Speaker 3: took her off the meds. We didn't want to put
- 24:00Speaker 3: her in a home because we knew that she wouldn't last.
- 24:04Speaker 3: In all, we had home hospice and it'll be It
- 24:08Speaker 3: was four years this August that she passed. Now, during
- 24:11Speaker 3: the course of this time, I'm dealing with all of this,
- 24:14Speaker 3: So how did I deal with it?
- 24:16Speaker 2: Yes, I was just about to ask that, how did
- 24:19Speaker 2: you writing?
- 24:20Speaker 3: The greef came out through my poetry. The greeed came
- 24:23Speaker 3: out through my poet and my faith as well, but
- 24:26Speaker 3: it came out. It came out through the poetry I
- 24:29Speaker 3: was doing, writing, writing, writing, and the book is dedicated
- 24:34Speaker 3: to my mother, my daughter, and my brother and life
- 24:38Speaker 3: between the words. I like jazz music and I like Incognito,
- 24:44Speaker 3: and he had a song life between the music. But
- 24:46Speaker 3: I noticed that the words that I was writing basically
- 24:50Speaker 3: spoke life. There was life between the words where when
- 24:54Speaker 3: I was going through the grief and I was going
- 24:56Speaker 3: through the laws the redemption, where my faith fitted. All
- 25:02Speaker 3: of those things came out in the book. He's the
- 25:07Speaker 3: title of the book. That's my third book. There's a
- 25:09Speaker 3: middle book called Journey to Poetic Light, where that poetry
- 25:13Speaker 3: deals with light.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Woof Okay, so I'm just.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Going over time. But those are the influences, things that
- 25:25Speaker 3: touched me, that manifested itself in words, which manifested itself
- 25:31Speaker 3: in books being published.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Wow, wooh, okay, that's a lot.
- 25:39Speaker 6: I'm I'm I'm dealing with the third anniversary yesterday of
- 25:44Speaker 6: my mom's death.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And you have three like.
- 25:53Speaker 6: I'm sorry you are strong because I would have been
- 25:56Speaker 6: sitting in somebody's corner sucking.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I'm trying to figure out my life.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Well, you know, oh, you know, I've dealt with a
- 26:02Speaker 3: lot of different things. I had an addiction issue when
- 26:05Speaker 3: I was in New York, part of one of the
- 26:07Speaker 3: reasons why God delived me and brought me here from that.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Got into that a little bit, done it. But the
- 26:11Speaker 3: thing is through everything, when I look back on those
- 26:15Speaker 3: particular aspects of my life, yeah, they were dog times.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I was a streamed for my children, went through a divorce.
- 26:22Speaker 3: My children kind of blamed me, didn't blame their mom,
- 26:25Speaker 3: and dealing with that. God has a way of rebuilding
- 26:31Speaker 3: things that may be broken in your life. I went
- 26:34Speaker 3: through all that and at fifty one started writing poetry
- 26:37Speaker 3: to heal from that. Got back together with my kids.
- 26:40Speaker 3: We have great relationships. I got six grand children that
- 26:45Speaker 3: I want to see more because they're about a hourway.
- 26:47Speaker 3: But through graduations, holidays, I see them and I'm popa
- 26:52Speaker 3: so they called me and I call them or FaceTime
- 26:56Speaker 3: and things like that. But all the broken things because
- 26:58Speaker 3: a lot of us are broken, a lot of us
- 27:01Speaker 3: have felt with with with things in our lives, and
- 27:05Speaker 3: a lot of people don't recover, they are addicted to something.
- 27:08Speaker 3: They may, you know, take the easy way, I'll commit suicide.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And they say, hurt people, hurt people. They don't know
- 27:15Speaker 3: how to deal with relationships because they're broken and hurt,
- 27:18Speaker 3: so they translate that to the people in their lives.
- 27:22Speaker 3: So my way of dealing with and the relationship with
- 27:25Speaker 3: my father, all of those type of things kind of
- 27:29Speaker 3: work themself out over time. And God has blessed me
- 27:34Speaker 3: to be here enough time to work through because a
- 27:37Speaker 3: lot of times you're going through stuff you're not you're
- 27:39Speaker 3: not blessed to live long enough to deal with those issues.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yes, yes, now that is true. The other part of
- 27:46Speaker 2: it that that's true.
- 27:48Speaker 6: And I was just telling my producer that you know
- 27:51Speaker 6: where I live at, somebody actually committed suicide and you
- 27:58Speaker 6: want to is that two Rold, It's like why and
- 28:05Speaker 6: then you think of the family. But my heart goes
- 28:08Speaker 6: out to anyone and everyone that's affected by it in words,
- 28:19Speaker 6: and that's why.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's why my prayer and hope for life
- 28:24Speaker 3: between the words is that somebody will pick up the
- 28:27Speaker 3: book that's dealing with any type of issue, whether it
- 28:32Speaker 3: be relational, mental issue or those type of things or
- 28:37Speaker 3: grieving and just read one of the pieces and just
- 28:40Speaker 3: have that piece touch them. Maybe they were thinking about
- 28:43Speaker 3: doing something and they read a piece that kind of
- 28:46Speaker 3: gave them a different mindset, or they were losing faith
- 28:49Speaker 3: and one of the pieces that I wrote had them
- 28:52Speaker 3: rebuild their faith. Or they're a non believer and they're saying, wow,
- 28:56Speaker 3: here's a guy who is really immersed in the word.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Maybe this is something I should try. Because I challenge
- 29:04Speaker 3: people because I'm the co hosts. We call it a
- 29:08Speaker 3: virtual talk show call the Real Level Up. And I
- 29:11Speaker 3: would challenge pe because it's faith based, and I would say,
- 29:14Speaker 3: you know what, we get people that talk about their
- 29:17Speaker 3: how their passion turned to purpose. And I challenge people.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I said, whoever's listening and looking at us right now,
- 29:23Speaker 3: I challenge any of you who who are on the
- 29:26Speaker 3: fence or really don't believe, reach out to them and
- 29:29Speaker 3: try and see what happens, and then contact me back
- 29:33Speaker 3: to let me know. I've heard it back from anybody yet,
- 29:36Speaker 3: but I'm looking forward to having somebody try reaching out
- 29:40Speaker 3: to our Almighty and let me know what has happened
- 29:45Speaker 3: in your life. And I'm just waiting for that, either
- 29:48Speaker 3: that social media, post, phone call or email is what's
- 29:53Speaker 3: gonna happen, because I'm waiting.
- 29:55Speaker 2: And you're gonna get it. It's gonna get it.
- 29:57Speaker 3: If it's going to happen, it's gonna happen.
- 30:01Speaker 2: So let me tell you a little bit about my show.
- 30:04Speaker 6: So we talked about you, we talked you the book,
- 30:06Speaker 6: we talk about.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Your vision for the book. Now the second half of
- 30:10Speaker 2: my show, we like to have fun. Okay, So life
- 30:16Speaker 2: between the words.
- 30:18Speaker 4: If you can have any minister, okay, do the vocals
- 30:26Speaker 4: of an audio book, who would it be?
- 30:30Speaker 3: And why a minister? The person I could think is
- 30:38Speaker 3: not a minister, but his voice would bring so much
- 30:42Speaker 3: life to my other and that would be James Earl Jones.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Oh man, Oh why him? His voice?
- 30:52Speaker 3: His voice, it's so powerful to be a very powerful
- 30:57Speaker 3: and commanding voice. So I know that my words have
- 31:01Speaker 3: black but he would really give up his life.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Okay, change up. Oh my god, Yo, that would be
- 31:09Speaker 2: crazy great.
- 31:11Speaker 3: That would be something. And I'm thinking about doing an
- 31:13Speaker 3: audio book as well. I have friends that do music
- 31:17Speaker 3: and I was thinking about maybe taking some pieces. I've
- 31:20Speaker 3: written some new works that's not published yet. And I'm
- 31:23Speaker 3: thinking about basically creating a CD with me because I
- 31:27Speaker 3: do voiceovers as well.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Ooh, that'd be great.
- 31:31Speaker 3: What you see behind me, that's my home studio.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Oh my god, your poetry, some music?
- 31:39Speaker 3: Ooh, behave Basically I can sit down. As a matter
- 31:46Speaker 3: of fact, I got a friend that has a studio
- 31:48Speaker 3: in Augusta, Tony d. He is a phenomenon musician, singer.
- 31:54Speaker 3: He has his own show that's part of our Level
- 31:57Speaker 3: of Nation. We started with one show, the Real Level Up,
- 32:02Speaker 3: Real Talk that takes you higher. We now are have
- 32:05Speaker 3: Level of Nation and we had a meeting today. That's
- 32:08Speaker 3: why I was running around this T shirt Cha Christian
- 32:13Speaker 3: hip Hop. One of our new shows. We have a
- 32:16Speaker 3: doctor Kyrie Cookies. She was on our show. She had
- 32:21Speaker 3: a phenomenal story. She used to bake cookies out of
- 32:24Speaker 3: her house. Now she has mortar where she does cookies
- 32:29Speaker 3: with love. She packages them and a really regal and
- 32:34Speaker 3: nice packaging. She's a cancer survivor. Her son works with
- 32:38Speaker 3: her and Oprah picked her cookies as one of her
- 32:42Speaker 3: favorite things.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was huge.
- 32:48Speaker 3: That was huge. We have another show called pat Nash
- 32:52Speaker 3: and she does relationships and we're having all of these
- 32:57Speaker 3: shows come. So God has really taken and what Angie
- 33:01Speaker 3: the host, what her vision is and just expanded it
- 33:05Speaker 3: out what I would like to happen. I'm glad you're
- 33:08Speaker 3: having me on. When I said, hey, South Carolina her coals,
- 33:12Speaker 3: I said, nald Patrice says, she is running and angel
- 33:17Speaker 3: I love her. She has. I've been on her platform
- 33:20Speaker 3: as well, and she we haven't met yet, but when
- 33:23Speaker 3: she comes to Joy, I said, we gotta get we
- 33:25Speaker 3: gotta link up now. And my thing is your women group,
- 33:31Speaker 3: because you do you guys get together and discuss different books.
- 33:34Speaker 3: That's what you guys do.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Well, that is just my platform. Is I discussed.
- 33:43Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is I would love for you
- 33:46Speaker 3: to go, you know, and knowing I think the next
- 33:48Speaker 3: topic or next book we're gonna have, we don't know.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Order your books, and I'm gonna share them with the
- 33:52Speaker 3: group and we're gonna discuss it. I'll be more than
- 33:55Speaker 3: happy to either come listen or do a stream yard call.
- 34:04Speaker 6: Yeah, we're gonna stop you right there because see on
- 34:07Speaker 6: October nineteenth, the details of the of the airways, they're
- 34:11Speaker 6: gonna be right here in Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina. Wow,
- 34:17Speaker 6: how about you come on down here and hang out
- 34:19Speaker 6: with us on October nineteenth and you can be on
- 34:23Speaker 6: one of our panel discussions. You can have a book
- 34:26Speaker 6: where you can sell your books, and you can reach
- 34:30Speaker 6: out to those readers that are readers also that are
- 34:34Speaker 6: in the Charleston North Chelston.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Can't don't get me the wrong day and time, so
- 34:43Speaker 3: I miss it.
- 34:43Speaker 6: Don't don't do me like that.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Don't do me like that.
- 34:49Speaker 6: But it is October nineteenth, you guys. You know I've
- 34:53Speaker 6: been posting on my stage, So it is October nineteenth
- 34:57Speaker 6: from ten to four.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Make sure I email you that tonight.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Okay, So one more question before we let everybody go.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Another fun question. So you said you were gonna put
- 35:17Speaker 6: your poetry to music. What gospel artists would you like
- 35:23Speaker 6: to to create a song for your book?
- 35:30Speaker 2: Now?
- 35:30Speaker 6: For me, I'm gonna say cec wants because all of
- 35:34Speaker 6: her songs, the word that she used, the words that
- 35:38Speaker 6: she is this powerful.
- 35:41Speaker 2: But who would you choose?
- 35:43Speaker 6: Oh yeah, and I hit Albertina walk in my head.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Probably most likely I was gonna say Kirk, but I
- 35:52Speaker 3: got a little bit issue with mister Frank. I would say,
- 36:00Speaker 3: I can't we call the name. But I remember my
- 36:03Speaker 3: dad taking us to these old school gospel concerts where
- 36:07Speaker 3: his friends is part of a gospel group, and these
- 36:09Speaker 3: would be one of those groups that you probably have
- 36:12Speaker 3: not heard of, but it's like it's always four guys.
- 36:15Speaker 7: That they're instrumental, they can play the guitar, keyboards and
- 36:21Speaker 7: things like that, and they get them folks where you
- 36:24Speaker 7: up and stopping and dancing and stuff.
- 36:26Speaker 3: One of those type one of those songs for me
- 36:29Speaker 3: narrating over the top of it. Oh, I see Bishop Morton,
- 36:32Speaker 3: that might be one as well. But one of those
- 36:36Speaker 3: old school gospel groups. And the way that music resident
- 36:39Speaker 3: because that music is infused with the Holy Spirit like
- 36:43Speaker 3: a lot of where I hear like some of the gospel,
- 36:47Speaker 3: and it's becoming very secular, even though not all the artists,
- 36:51Speaker 3: but it's we're living in the trying time patas as
- 36:54Speaker 3: you know, where wrong is right and people who try
- 36:59Speaker 3: to be righting tell the truth of persecuting. Oh and
- 37:03Speaker 3: that's even in ministry, you know exactly. This is my
- 37:10Speaker 3: thing is I want to deal with real folk because
- 37:13Speaker 3: anybody Marve Sap will be one of the wins. Uh.
- 37:21Speaker 2: That old school choir on some that Georgia mass choir,
- 37:30Speaker 2: you know that.
- 37:32Speaker 3: The Blind Boys.
- 37:36Speaker 6: Yes, I still listen to that.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my god, I still listen to that today.
- 37:42Speaker 6: And that's that's my morning when I get to work.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Okay, the time I know our time is coming to
- 37:53Speaker 3: a close. Can I do just one poem from my book? Yes,
- 37:58Speaker 3: I have the copy of Light between the words, but
- 38:01Speaker 3: I do have Journey to the Poetic Light Illuminations, which
- 38:05Speaker 3: is my second book. And I always when I'm on on,
- 38:08Speaker 3: I just randomly flipped through. I just raandomly flipped through
- 38:13Speaker 3: and just get one. Now, this one is each poetry
- 38:16Speaker 3: deals with light. This one, the porch I'm gonna read,
- 38:20Speaker 3: is the section dim. We all go through light where
- 38:24Speaker 3: the light is kind of dim and we just need
- 38:27Speaker 3: a little kind of motivation to see that little glimmer
- 38:31Speaker 3: of light that God let us know that you're not
- 38:34Speaker 3: in total darkness. Just keep moving, keep going, It's going
- 38:40Speaker 3: to open up. This like being in a storm, Like
- 38:43Speaker 3: when the sun shower passes by and the clouds spans by,
- 38:45Speaker 3: the sun rays come through the clouds, and it just
- 38:48Speaker 3: gives you that real good feeling like that.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, this.
- 38:52Speaker 3: One is called through weary eyes because a lot of
- 38:55Speaker 3: times and a lot of times these pieces mirror when
- 38:58Speaker 3: I go through at that particular time. This one is
- 39:01Speaker 3: called through weary eyes. Life, clouds, preparing to rain, sadness,
- 39:08Speaker 3: sky shifting from blue to gray, contemplate a myriad of experiences,
- 39:13Speaker 3: holding back to tears, I fail freely. They flow, uncontrollable,
- 39:20Speaker 3: flooding washing over me. Sobbing won't stop. Don't want to cry,
- 39:26Speaker 3: but it releases something deep and buried, guilt, hurt, disappointment,
- 39:32Speaker 3: pulled from my soul, even with the existence of God.
- 39:36Speaker 3: I cried, stay with me, happiness, I need your soothing touch.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Struggling with myself at this moment, losing want to live,
- 39:48Speaker 3: but the pain is deafening. Can't hear my thinking. Knowledge
- 39:53Speaker 3: is known, but feelings can dominate and effect. Is that
- 39:58Speaker 3: something I can and take to ease this or is
- 40:02Speaker 3: it a chronic affliction to be lived with from time
- 40:06Speaker 3: to time Through the blurriness of clearing, mind opens to
- 40:12Speaker 3: a sunshine in a place where the tears of pain
- 40:17Speaker 3: are evaporated into his love.
- 40:21Speaker 6: See that right there, you guys, y'all know y'all need
- 40:24Speaker 6: to just go ahead and grab this book so playing around,
- 40:27Speaker 6: go ahead and add it to you to be read
- 40:29Speaker 6: bless or you know what, we just have all the
- 40:32Speaker 6: linked at the bottom where you can actually go on
- 40:35Speaker 6: mister Nolan's website, or you can go on Amazon and
- 40:39Speaker 6: just go ahead and purchase a copy. If it's not
- 40:42Speaker 6: for you, somebody else will be so blessed with this book.
- 40:46Speaker 3: And that's why that's my desire that the book will
- 40:51Speaker 3: bring life inspiration and kind of showing you what a
- 40:56Speaker 3: walk of faith is like. That's not always roses and
- 41:00Speaker 3: and and pretty and you know, try to dress up
- 41:03Speaker 3: because a lot of times you go to certain places
- 41:06Speaker 3: and they try to dress it up and on happeness.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Know what if Paul said, Paul said, through his suffering
- 41:13Speaker 3: broad him perseverance. Now he's being in prison, he's writing,
- 41:18Speaker 3: he's doing something. Even in those dog times. Where did
- 41:22Speaker 3: he look to for his life. He looked towards the
- 41:25Speaker 3: old mind. So he said, even through my suffering, I'm
- 41:29Speaker 3: gonna find joy, which people can't understand. How can you
- 41:32Speaker 3: suffer and find joy? Once you do it, then you'll
- 41:36Speaker 3: understand what we're talking about.
- 41:38Speaker 6: There you go, So tell us how we can follow you,
- 41:43Speaker 6: purchase your books, tell us give us your information.
- 41:47Speaker 3: You can. She's got my website. You can follow me
- 41:49Speaker 3: through my website tells me and tells you a little
- 41:51Speaker 3: bit about me. Some reviews in my books. You can

- 41:58Speaker 3: I'm on LinkedIn as well. I used to have my
- 42:01Speaker 3: regular nine to five on, but I changed that to
- 42:04Speaker 3: voiceover because I'm presently working on getting gigs to do that.
- 42:08Speaker 3: If you have anybody that's listening to me tonight and
- 42:10Speaker 3: seeing me tonight. If you have promos, if you have
- 42:14Speaker 3: e learning or your employer does little training videos and
- 42:18Speaker 3: you want a voice to bring those to life, reach
- 42:22Speaker 3: out to me. I can quote you a rate and
- 42:26Speaker 3: give you real good audio with emotion and feeling. I've
- 42:31Speaker 3: been I've been doing some practicing, so I'm getting some
- 42:34Speaker 3: coaching and get my demo released, so the books you
- 42:38Speaker 3: can just simply go to Amazon, just type my name
- 42:41Speaker 3: Noah P. Holloway Junior, and it'll bring up all three books.
- 42:46Speaker 6: All right, Well, I thank you for joining us and
- 42:48Speaker 6: giving us that that quest to keep going and knowing
- 42:55Speaker 6: that words can save us.
- 42:57Speaker 3: And life can come at any time. You don't necessarily
- 43:00Speaker 3: have to be young. You can age and things can
- 43:04Speaker 3: be brought to you even in the latter mature stages.
- 43:07Speaker 3: So you know, if you have a dream, sometimes people
- 43:12Speaker 3: could be a hindrance. So if you give your dreams
- 43:15Speaker 3: to him, he's going to put people in your life
- 43:19Speaker 3: to help move them forward. And a lot of times
- 43:21Speaker 3: he'll listen to him. He may say be quiet. You
- 43:25Speaker 3: can't share everything all the time. Sometimes you have to.
