- 0:00Hello, everybody, and welcome back to the EyeOpener Society.
- 0:04I want to thank everybody for joining us here. This has been a fantastic week
- 0:09for me, and we've got so many episodes that's been sitting in the library that's going to be coming out.
- 0:16We've got some really good shows. We had some really good shows.
- 0:20The directions are always changing, and it's really exciting to us,
- 0:24and we're really happy to have you part of this.
- 0:26The other thing I wanted to do real quick in case nobody ever noticed just how
- 0:31great my voice sounds on here,
- 0:33they Witt microphones ever since I bought these things almost a year ago,
- 0:39everything has been so much better sounding and I can't stand how good I sound
- 0:45in my headphones and that's all thanks to LeWitt microphones so LeWitt,
- 0:49if you're listening thank you so very much so the giggling companion that I
- 0:54have is Jennifer Miller.
- 0:55She's with me and she's such fun to be around.
- 0:58I just want to put her on here because she doesn't know it yet,
- 1:01but she's going to be running this show right now because I'm going to have
- 1:04her run a show at some point.
- 1:06So Jennifer, thank you. And tell me why or what this topic is and who inspired you?
- 1:14Oh, well, obviously you. Of course. The post that you put up about just.
- 1:22I don't even know how to explain the depression the sadness like people are
- 1:26just down It really stuck with
- 1:28me today um, because I had to I read it right and then I reread it and,
- 1:34I was really like I was kind of like wow Yeah.
- 1:39A lot of people like have been so down and you've been seeing it on social media,
- 1:45I mean even people you talk to you can just It's not the same like the connections
- 1:50aren't the same the way you feel Um.
- 1:54It's just, you know, post 2020, you know, 20, things have really changed.
- 1:58I mean, I think for a lot of people's emotional health, um, or mental health, as you would say, um,
- 2:06but it really stuck with me and I was looking at that and then all of a sudden
- 2:10a friend popped up and, um, we got into talking about some heavy stuff.
- 2:15Stuff and um you know you know
- 2:18regret like one of the biggest things um
- 2:21and it was you know done with being a drug addict and
- 2:25having regrets of things that you had done and um
- 2:28it turned into such a personal conversation i
- 2:32mean because of that post like it
- 2:35just kept playing in my mind and um
- 2:38it's just been kind of an odd day for it
- 2:41it's funny here's one this is not
- 2:44i don't think this is the exact one because i put two because again on
- 2:47facebook i have um my facebook uh
- 2:50business page for eye opener society and then we have the group page
- 2:53this is one on the regular page not the group um
- 2:56it says i have seen so much pain lately not just my own but from so many people
- 3:02both close to me as well as strangers perhaps maybe with the world falling apart
- 3:08it will leave us with a blank Canvas to start again the right way this time.
- 3:16I like that one. The one with pain pushes to heal. I used that when I was talking to my friend.
- 3:25I mean, not to get too into the conversation, but they are not an active drug addict.
- 3:32They actually have some other friends that still are, and they've been really worried about that.
- 3:36And I'm just like, you know, sometimes tough love. You've got to distance yourself.
- 3:40And I'm like, you know, you have to feel pain in order to heal,
- 3:43like to know that you need to heal.
- 3:46Um, you know things around you are going to trigger you and it's going to force
- 3:50you to look at something and be like, you know I'm not over this.
- 3:54I need to work on it um And it just that conversation really hit hard Just because
- 4:02I saw that post and then they were talking about their stuff and it was just like,
- 4:06you know pain You know the pain of regret that's something for me Especially
- 4:10with a lot of stuff and I know a lot of people have that.
- 4:14And it's hard to move on from certain parts of, you know, your life,
- 4:19especially if you regret it, because it's something that just pops up.
- 4:22So, yeah, living with pain, like, you know, a lot of people do because,
- 4:26you know, regret's a pretty big thing.
- 4:29Right. And I think because of everything that I've gone through recent times
- 4:35and what everybody else is going through as well, as a society,
- 4:41we're all dealing with this stuff.
- 4:42And it's affecting, like I said, it's now come from total strangers and I'm
- 4:49listening and hearing things and it's, it is, it's, it's very interesting.
- 4:54It's powerful. It's powerful to think that that many people are going through
- 4:57so much stuff right now, but I'm trying to relate it.
- 5:02Are we going through some sort of spiritual awakening where everything's going
- 5:07to change and get better? Or is this just the gloom that's going to remain? We don't know.
- 5:13However, we as people need to change and decide which way it's going to go.
- 5:20That's a really dark way. yeah so
- 5:24you put a whole other spin on it right yeah no it's fine but
- 5:26you see i could put a whole another spin on it and make you
- 5:29think completely different about i mean i'm really
- 5:32my i'm hoping for the best i hope that
- 5:35it's something that it's you know pushes us to like
- 5:38heal and pushes everyone to to
- 5:41be better um but you
- 5:44know i just i also there's a realist in me
- 5:47there that's just like is it really going to get
- 5:49better or are we going to progressively get worse
- 5:53into this funk or is it just like seasonal affect are
- 5:56we all just experiencing as a collective like
- 5:59as a group of people cabin fever to
- 6:02the extreme you know what i mean yeah you had also mentioned too you know with
- 6:092020 that was a year that was a dumpster fire and are we still feeling those
- 6:16effects Or are we going through cycles now where every few years we're going to keep reliving a 2020?
- 6:23And that's the question too that I was asking myself. Is it something in the
- 6:27air? Is it something the government's doing? Is it just us as people?
- 6:31Where is it coming from? What's causing it? What's creating the problems right now?
- 6:36Those are the questions that need to be asked. And those are the decisions we
- 6:41need to make too to decide, are we going to break out of this and change things?
- 6:46Or can we i mean i think we can but i think it is a collective of everything
- 6:52you know like social media news coming at you i mean even local news i've noticed
- 6:57has had a very big uptick in just.
- 7:02Negative terrible things i mean like around my area it just seems like you know
- 7:06the the local news is just popping out like pedophiles like like crazy i mean and i,
- 7:12it's it's kind of shocking because you know they've always
- 7:15been there but we didn't have like the
- 7:18um social media and the the network of
- 7:21news so fast now or well
- 7:24then to come out but now we do so you hear about
- 7:27it continuously and it's like is it is
- 7:31this you know just funk for everybody because
- 7:34of you know the collective stuff i was saying like social
- 7:38media the news you know friends and family um
- 7:41obsess about certain things um you know
- 7:44within the news politics money stuff like like
- 7:48you said like are we going to get through this like i'm hoping like
- 7:51i'm hoping for the best because it's intense
- 7:54it's intense to be around people that are just feeling it
- 7:58and it's not that you don't want to be there for them but you're
- 8:00also sometimes like in the hole or the rut or
- 8:03the the death spiral as you want to call it you
- 8:07know um we are and you
- 8:10know sometimes right there you could surround yourself too with positive people
- 8:17that usually helps but where do you find these positive people because there's
- 8:21a lot of positive people that suddenly turn very negative so i've seen a lot
- 8:26of positive people turn negative yeah.
- 8:29So we are falling into
- 8:32this death spiral it really is we're
- 8:36feeding off of the negative energy of one another
- 8:39there's a lot of it and there is and you know you come in contact with someone
- 8:44you know and they right away they start breaking down on you and then it triggers
- 8:50you it's like oh crap I'm going through the same shit myself and it brings out even more.
- 8:57So now you have two people and it intensifies everything twice as much now.
- 9:01And it's just a continuous broken record now. And it keeps happening and happening.
- 9:07We don't know where the door is to get out.
- 9:11Right well also like you have to think like there's a
- 9:14lot of people that don't even really know this about themselves like
- 9:17you know not empaths but they just absorb energy
- 9:20very easily i mean there's empaths that
- 9:24i think do feel others emotions but like like you
- 9:27said like they join into the negative conversation and then you've
- 9:30been in that for like what 15 minutes and it just keeps
- 9:33you know kind of circling and circling um
- 9:36so like you absorb that you go to somebody else
- 9:40and you're talking they're going to be getting that too so like you
- 9:43know it spreads right that negative you know
- 9:46energy and i know when i talk to
- 9:49people you know i can say hey
- 9:52yeah i've been there you know i've done that like i've you know
- 9:55i feel your pain like i know what you're going through but still
- 9:58like when you leave even if you feel like you're on a good term you
- 10:01still have a little bit of that stuff with you that they
- 10:04were talking about so you know it we are feeding
- 10:07off of everybody like we are like that's like
- 10:10the best way to say it feeding off yeah it's
- 10:14crazy and then you gotta i'm probably about to bring the worst advice out but
- 10:22again don't we're just podcasters i'm not a doctor i'm about to give you the
- 10:28worst advice i could give anybody but i just want to want you to take it philosophically.
- 10:34You remember our last episode when we were talking, like, hey,
- 10:39let's treat this life as a cruel joke.
- 10:42Laugh at it. Make yourself a joke. That's one way to do it. Now, here's my bad advice.
- 10:47I was, just before coming, you know, on the air with you, I found this thing.
- 10:52I wish I had the damn link.
- 10:55I'd give him a shout-out. But it was on Facebook, and it was just a live show
- 10:58that was previously recorded, I think, last night.
- 11:01And it was a radio show, and they were doing punk rock.
- 11:04I enjoy punk rock. I enjoy punk rock.
- 11:07Yeah. There's zero worry about all the consistency of music.
- 11:13You're just doing the music for the music.
- 11:16And the DJ that was on there was completely fucking drunk and blasted out of his mind.
- 11:22He was having the best time of his life.
- 11:25And then mixing that with the punk rock music. And then all the comments that
- 11:29were rolling in where everybody else was obviously having a great time. At some point.
- 11:34Go out there and drink go out there and you know again worst advice i could
- 11:38give you go out and live life go out and live like do something extremely powerful that's gonna like hey.
- 11:48All right take away the drinking way please don't take my
- 11:50advice at least turn up the volume you know
- 11:53listen to the music you like listen to a different type of
- 11:56music get yourself out of a rock that
- 11:59you are in by doing something different this
- 12:03was different to me because yeah i listen i listen to
- 12:06punk rock you know but i don't always listen to punk rock
- 12:08this is the first time i'm listening to like a radio station with a drunk dj on
- 12:12facebook where anything is going it was different
- 12:15and the music hit a lot harder than
- 12:18it would if i would have just turned on the radio and heard a song now i
- 12:23like that and drunk dj i remember going like
- 12:25when i was in college like that was kind of the thing
- 12:28like you know i wouldn't say drunk djs but like
- 12:31you know upbeat djs and you know
- 12:34partying and you know just getting out there
- 12:37and doing something different that you hadn't been doing the whole week
- 12:40you know studying doing all that good stuff going out you
- 12:43look you had a good time because you weren't doing it consistently and
- 12:47the drinking part yeah it could be good advice or bad advice gary i mean i think
- 12:53people do what they need to do what they gotta do i mean to feel better and
- 12:58surprisingly like lately i haven't
- 13:01been feeling really bad about stuff but i've also been kind of like,
- 13:06hibernating in the woods you know where i live um not really um i said like just not really um.
- 13:16Socializing as much right but like
- 13:19i said i've noticed a big like it's just it's crazy
- 13:22like how like it's not going anywhere like
- 13:26i've noticed it's not changing things with people
- 13:29and they're and you know things that are going on with
- 13:32them like i mean they do change obviously but
- 13:35not for the better i've noticed just
- 13:38you know what i mean it's just kind of
- 13:41crazy how just things have gone
- 13:44to this place so let
- 13:47me hit you with this one then oh okay take it take take that because here's
- 13:51another thing that i myself personally experienced okay the other day was extremely
- 13:58windy and cold like i mean the winds were freaking howling 25 to 40 mile an
- 14:02hour gusts And when I'm and where I am,
- 14:05the wind, the way it's hitting, because we're basically, it's a flat land.
- 14:09Actually, where I live used to be an airport at one time and they rebuilt it
- 14:13up to, you know, shop stores and homes.
- 14:17So it's flat land. A lot of it's open. So the wind sounds 10 times worse.
- 14:22Under meditation, I'm sitting there, I'm listening to this wind.
- 14:25And then I'm putting myself into like some deserted Antarctic kind of place
- 14:30where the, everything is so extreme and so cold and so bitter and so brutal.
- 14:37There's a silence in that. And there's peace in that.
- 14:41Even though it's wicked, it's cold, it's depressive.
- 14:47It becomes, depending on how you look, once you find the peace in it,
- 14:53you look at things differently.
- 14:55That no matter how bad things really are, it's actually peaceful.
- 14:58So there's a whole nother aspect.
- 15:01Hey, do you thrive in like real like dramatic situations?
- 15:06Cause that just kind of sounds like someone that would thrive in like such dramatic
- 15:11situations. Like that's where you shine kind of.
- 15:14I mean, in life. Yeah. I mean, most of my work and all, I was in a lot of high
- 15:20and intense situations and I do it.
- 15:22I used to thrive. I'm just trying to get away from it because I'm trying to retire.
- 15:26Here so but yeah it's but you
- 15:29take that and if you use that as advice which
- 15:32is probably better than going out and drinking and getting drunk which
- 15:35sometimes it's not that bad no it's good to go out and get drunk and do fun
- 15:41things there and there just as long as it doesn't you know affect your life
- 15:45in a negative way people don't like and i'll be honest with you i've stopped
- 15:49drinking um i was never like an alcoholic i like i enjoy alcohol i could get.
- 15:56Really drunk but i never had like that craving
- 15:59addiction to it like i put it away for years and i'll
- 16:02go back to it when i've only stayed away from it like it's been a year now since
- 16:07i really did any real drinking drinking and i'm just doing it more for health
- 16:13and it's just because i'm just trying to cleanse out my body but and i'm sitting
- 16:17here thinking maybe that's what i need is a good drink, you know,
- 16:21and not in an alcoholic kind of sense, but just as a way to intensify my life again.
- 16:26And, you know, obviously again, damn, I just think this is such bad advice,
- 16:31but I don't think it needs to be alcohol.
- 16:34It could be anything. Like I said, listen to a different type of music,
- 16:37go out to the Antarctic deal, you know.
- 16:41Experience things that you would not experience or what you think
- 16:44would be horrendous and enjoy them and
- 16:47i think that's the message i'm trying to convey probably the
- 16:50worst way possible no it's not it's not i don't
- 16:53think it's bad i mean i i don't think it's
- 16:56bad like i've had like a big change in
- 16:59how i see things and how i feel and i
- 17:02honestly don't know how that happened but i'd
- 17:05like to think that i started doing some things different And
- 17:09it changed everything for me And um
- 17:12Like if I knew how my like how I
- 17:14Figured it out or how I like worked it out So where I'm not Feeling like I was
- 17:21a while ago I would give I would be giving you guys the recipe But I don't have
- 17:27Any good advice I mean the drinking Is not bad advice though I mean trying something different Um,
- 17:34Heck I mean Um.
- 17:37Go skiing, try chest, you know. You can even do it with a beer.
- 17:42I mean, maybe not the skiing part.
- 17:44Maybe not. That might be a little wild.
- 17:49Skiing with a beer. Yeah. Might make me feel better.
- 17:53But, yeah, like, I've just... But it's just, like, isn't it crazy how fast...
- 17:59I mean, because, like, I remember, like, December.
- 18:01I wasn't feeling or seeing as much negativity as I'm seeing now.
- 18:06Right? just how fast that's kind of all just like snowballed like that's what's
- 18:11crazy that's where i'm just kind of like wow like you know even from just you know november december.
- 18:19Till a little bit of january and then all of a sudden it just
- 18:22snowballed like into a ball
- 18:26of negative fuckery basically it really
- 18:30quickly and i was i think
- 18:33on our last show too i was trying to explain some of the intensity
- 18:36that i wanted on the show and there's
- 18:39um it's a bruce springsteen song i think
- 18:42it is uh you were yeah um
- 18:45i want to change here's the list i want to change my hair my clothes my face
- 18:49but i ain't getting nowhere i'm just playing tired bored with myself and i think
- 18:54that's under these circumstances that really sums everything up you do something
- 19:01more than just, you know,
- 19:04changing the way you think you want to change everything. You want to make everything better.
- 19:09But again, there's something there. There's something in the air, whatever it is.
- 19:13It's just holding real deep oppressive thought on us or, you know,
- 19:18it's raining down on us and it's keeping us from being that person wants to go out there and.
- 19:24Change themselves, not because they're depressed, but because they
- 19:27just want to be different they want to experience something different
- 19:30yeah do something different be better i
- 19:34can understand that yeah like yeah yes i
- 19:37agree with that i do i don't know if i have anything really else to say on that
- 19:42but yeah terrible advice though with the drinking oh god yeah i know and yeah
- 19:48i'm looking at the clock yeah 20 minutes i think we should bail out of this
- 19:51one before people start getting angry but or they go out drinking whichever
- 19:55and but again it's you see.
- 19:58Sometimes the worst advice can be the best advice
- 20:01because you could replace the alcohol with anything it is you want right
- 20:05you know like i said the the
- 20:08real vision on that was just the fact that i was
- 20:11watching somebody who was obviously drunk and i'm watching this dude and like
- 20:15he's a freaking like an 80s punk rocker and it was just so cool to sit and watch
- 20:21somebody with zero fucks given in the moment and it makes me think like I'm
- 20:27trying to put myself in here this guy's probably penniless and he doesn't give a fuck,
- 20:31And that's what hit me so hard. I said, why am I caring about anything anymore?
- 20:36Why should we be so serious and so dramatic about certain events?
- 20:41I'm looking at this dude who's obviously drinking and having the best time of his life, and I'm not.
- 20:47And that's what makes me think. Not worrying.
- 20:51Yeah, I like that. You know, don't worry about the things that you can't control.
- 20:56Yeah, okay. Yeah, that's true.
- 21:00And I have not been doing that lately and I feel like it's been weird.
- 21:05Like remember I messaged you and i'm like I should be upset about something
- 21:09And you know about the the five unfollowers,
- 21:12but i'm just not and i'm feeling like I felt weird because I was so used to
- 21:17being worried and upset about Maybe just the smallest little things especially
- 21:21like that like I would get upset like that would You know hurt me It would make
- 21:27me just feel like you know,
- 21:28there's something wrong with me I know that might sound crazy because it's just
- 21:31five followers, but it's just like What was it about me?
- 21:36But now i'm just like before like that's why I messaged because I didn't have
- 21:41those thoughts I was just not worrying about it.
- 21:43I wasn't upset and I was just like I feel like something's weird.
- 21:48Like what is wrong with me? There's nothing wrong with me I'm just doing something different.
- 21:54Like I'm not feeling the same way about it.
- 21:57But I had felt that for so long, it was so weird to experience.
- 22:02So I'm pretty sure you were thinking when you saw that text message,
- 22:06this is crazy, this is weird, what?
- 22:09No, because at that time I was feeling just like you were. And it wasn't until
- 22:13just before coming on the show when I seen that punk rocker dude,
- 22:16and it gave me that newer perspective.
- 22:20And I think that's what driven me into thinking a different way again.
- 22:26So hopefully everybody else can, because I know everybody else is feeling on
- 22:30a certain level that we need to start thinking extreme and we need to start
- 22:35building, you know, digging our way out instead of digging our way in.
- 22:38So on that note, I want everybody to do me a favor.
- 22:42Since Jennifer here lost five followers, let's give her 500 followers.
- 22:47I want you to go on Facebook and go to Tea Leaf Readings in the Valley and give her a follow.
- 22:53See all the beautiful things that she makes because she's a very talented artist
- 22:56and it all comes right from the heart.
- 22:58And I really like the stuff that she makes. So go on there, see what she has,
- 23:02see what she has to offer, or at least just follow her just to follow her so
- 23:06she's not worried about the five followers she lost.
- 23:09And don't forget... But I'm not. That's the funny part. I know.
