- 0:58SPEAKER_00: On to today's episode.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: My guest today is Carly Webster or Coach Carly as she is affectionately known here in Broome.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: I had heard about Carly only briefly from a few people that had joined her run club, but it wasn't until recently when I saw her at the Broome Chamber Women's Leadership Forum on stage and speaking a snippet of her story that I knew in that moment that I had to get her on the podcast because I wanted to know so much more about her, dive into the world of her weight loss journey, which is an incredibly transformation that she's gone through, and this hype run club that she started that just continues to go from strength to strength.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And I really honestly think that she is an inspiration to plenty of women out there.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So, enough of me waffling.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Here is our conversation.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Hello, Coach Carly, and welcome to the podcast.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I would have just rattled off how amazing you are in the intro.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I just want to let people know that I truly only recently saw you in person at the Broom Women's Leadership Forum only a month or so ago on stage sharing your story.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And as I was sitting there in the front row, I was looking up at you like a massive fangirl, just going, Wow, your story is incredible.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And I know that you only had a short amount of time to kind of tell the audience.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: In that moment, I was like, I need to get you on the podcast so you can tell the people that listen to this podcast, but everybody else that's only new to this platform as well, that have just found me, I want them to know all about you.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I have heard about you in small circles around town, but because I've been allergic to exercise for the past, oh god, couple of years, we don't really have ever sort of bumped into each other.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And then now in this small amount of time, it's like as if I see you everywhere.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Can you introduce yourself as much as you want to share who you are and what Coach Carly is about?
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, thank you.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for having me.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I feel like Coach Carly is so cringe, but it is what I'm known as.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So I guess we'll we'll go with the Coach Carly.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Backstory.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Coach Carly on Instagram.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: That page did used to be called Carly's Weight Loss Journey.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Carly's Weight Loss Journey.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, it was.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Weight loss, weight loss by Carly, no?
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Something along the lines of Carly's Weight Loss Journey.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: I started that account, goodness would have been 2015.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: It started with coming over to Australia.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I was in Sydney, I was backpacking, and I thought, oh my goodness, I stand out like a sore thumb.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: That's that was how I felt at the time.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: I felt like I was quite overweight at the time.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I just remember looking around thinking, oh wow, everyone is so fit, active, and healthy in Australia.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: But I mean Sydney, was this at Wondo?
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Where was this?
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: This was near the harbour bridge.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: From there, it sparked a bit of an interest in health and fitness for me.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: And then traveling around Australia, I decided one day to just go for a run.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Just try and run.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I've never been fit, active, healthy my entire life.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Really.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Done a bit of dance and performing arts, but never really, never ran.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: And then I decided to go for a run, and that run just progressed.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: I would just start to monitor my runs and go a little bit further each time.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: And then it sparked the whole Instagram.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: I used to document it on Instagram.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And it was back when probably just when people were starting to do that.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: And we'd post our food.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: And I know people do it now and they do their reels, but we just used to post a picture of our meal prep, you know, back in 2015.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: It just sparked a little bit of interest at the time.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And I I think it just got me in the zone where I needed to be to keep going because I get support from strangers online.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And they'd be like, oh, well done, Carly.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And then I started losing weight.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: So that takes me to losing 50 kilos.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: Holy shit.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, so 50 kilos is a whole person.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, half my body weight.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a lot of weight to lose.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: And that was done over about two years.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So two years to release.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: The words right out of my mouth.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Because I was gonna ask, you know, did you do anything?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And I mean, this wouldn't have even been around with Ozampic and whatever those other ones are called.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: That's such a significant amount of weight to lose.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Did you have like a cap?
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Were you just gonna keep going?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: I think at the time I was just enjoying getting confident.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: I'd say that I'd never used to really be a confident woman.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: And I wasn't really a confident.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Actually, my mum would disagree.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: She said that I used to talk to anyone and be the loudest and but I think that was a facade.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I don't think that was how I felt inside.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I always felt a little bit insecure.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Actually, she would agree with that because it used to take me so long to get ready as a teenager.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: As maybe like 13, 12, 13, 14, it would take me so long to get me out of the house because I'd be really paranoid about what I was wearing, what I looked like, if my hair was out of place.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Coming over to Australia and being right near that harbour bridge, watching all of these fit, active, healthy people walk past me, that sparked the change.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Getting interested in running, joining a boot camp.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: That's um, I had a trainer.
- 5:54unknown: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I was still in contact with him, actually, Greg, from a company called Battle PT.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: He had this like military boot camp, and his slogan was something along the lines of we make simple shit hard.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: And he had it on the side of his car, and this is in New South Wales.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: He looked scary, Greg, but um, in fact, Greg is scary.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: And I remember approaching him and I was like, Do you train women?
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: He's like, Yep, Wednesdays, 5 p.m.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: See you there, make sure you've got a heart.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my God.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Um at this stage, I think I was probably like halfway through my weight loss sort of transformation, and I was getting to that point where I was getting more interested in other things, so not just running.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: And then uh, yeah, lost the rest of my weight with him.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: He became a good friend.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: He was super proud of me.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: So it wasn't just on running.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Wasn't just on running, no.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: So it was combined with a boot camp.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I used to go to a boot camp.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And then were you obviously watching what you were eating as well?
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Over time.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I didn't do it all at once.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I would literally, I did not even focus on eating habits for I would at least say six months.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: I was just running, watching the weight come off, and then it just naturally started to happen.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: I was just started to be a bit more interested in food, what the nutrition was, how I could fuel myself for the runs because I was getting super tired after runs, what I needed.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: So I'd just do a bit of research.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And this is going back before like fitness influences and things like that were out there and accessible on Instagram.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: It was more we just document what we were doing and not overthinking.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: I'm just thinking, I really should have asked at the start though, because now my curiosity is really getting the better of me.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: You've done that traditional backpacking thing, but what made you come to Australia?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I was running away from a relationship that I was in at the time that just was extremely toxic.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Told my mum I was gonna go, she was devastated.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: She still hasn't got over it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: She's still to this day, and she comes and visits and I go home, but because what is this accent?
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Liverpool.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Skousa, they say.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: It's not as strong as it used to be.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, it's proper.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Anybody that's listened to my podcast, they're like, here we go, here's Emma on her bloody accents again.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I love accents.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Like, to be honest, I thought it was Scottish.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: See, and people think I'm Irish.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Everything broom.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, but love your Irish accent.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm not Irish, I'm actually English.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: But I think being around a lot of Australians since 2013, it's changed.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: It's definitely changed.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: But to you guys have got an accent to my mum, she thinks I sound completely different.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I had to go figure out what I wanted to do.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: And then in Australia, got residency, and then from there.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: You just started your weight loss journey.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Off camera, we took we discussed that you actually did get to a point though where you took it too far.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: As in you lost a shit ton of weight.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Like to the point where the other way.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I guess I've done that first weight loss journey and then I became pregnant, which we can, yeah, might be a bit of a shock to you because I don't know how much you know, but I do have a son.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: I just don't post him on my Instagram.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: But got pregnant and put on all of the weight again.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: I pretty much put on like a 40 kilo again.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: That's how I ended up in Broom.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: And so we were traveling around Australia, fell pregnant, and yeah, found myself in Broome, F45.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: There was a challenge starting.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: I still remember it like it was yesterday.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Signed up to the gym there to try and lose the baby weight.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: And they said, Oh, there's a challenge starting today.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: And I said, Oh, what's the prize?
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: And they said it was like$500.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: And I said, Oh, I'll win that.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Because I know that if I commit to something and say I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna make it happen.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: And I did.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: I won that challenge at F45 in Broom.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yay, go you.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, and that was the start of the second weight loss journey.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and you don't muck around.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: No.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, I struggle to lose two kilos.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: So to lose 40 kilos, and now it's up to 50 kilos.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, so this is where it sort of has that little spiral.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: So when I won that challenge, it then sparked interest into becoming a coach.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And then from there I ended up managing the studio.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: And I think I got a bit obsessed.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Actually, I don't think I know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I got very obsessed with weight loss, fitness, and look, we're just building this wonderful community that I I just got obsessed with losing weight.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: And I was over-training, massively over-training.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: So not taking rest days, probably not fueling myself enough.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: And most of those photographs, and I wish I hadn't removed them, but I did remove them off my Instagram.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I did go down to quite a low weight.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: And I remember people around me at the time were like, oh, you've gone a bit too far.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And you know, and I'm like, oh, you're just jealous.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Because I'm losing all this weight.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: No, they were looking out for me.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: So came out of that, um, ended up managing the yard gym in Broome for a while as well.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Found balance around that time, I would say.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: But F-45 was so high intensity that if you're not fueling and you're doing all of those sessions as well as coaching all of those sessions, yeah.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: No wonder I was wasting away.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: But also I was obsessed.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, and that's good that you can admit to that.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about or ask you the question of how do you navigate the pressures of setting up your small business in a small town where some people can get their nose out of joint.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, when women do choose to kind of go out and do their own thing, you know, how do you navigate around that?
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, the fitness industry in Broome, I'm gonna say it, it's extremely competitive.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: It is extremely competitive.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And I didn't like that.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: I don't like that.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: And I'm changing that.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: I navigate that by staying in my own lane, staying confident in what I have to offer the community and hoping that I can change it in Broome, that we don't need to be against each other.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: We can actually support each other, we can collaborate with each other, and that would spark, I guess, the interest in when I decided to do my own run club and bring people from any gym in Broome, if or even if people didn't train, I just wanted to have a place where we could all come together.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: So it didn't matter where you trained, you're welcome to come to my run club.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: There needs to be more community-minded, sort of, you know, that exact thing that you're talking about.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Now tell me more about this run club because run club, I want to know what actually motivated you to set it up in the first place.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Can you talk to me more about this run club?
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: I want to know more.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: It's wild, isn't it?
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: It is wild.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm still on this high from it all.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, so became de-affiliated with anyone and just just coach Carly, I suppose, in the world, in Broom by itself.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Started online coaching that was going really, really well, still is.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And then from there, it was May last year.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: So we're coming up to nearly a year ago.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: I felt like I didn't really have a community anymore as well, because I was no longer affiliated with any gym.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: So I felt a little bit lost, a little bit lonely.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: And I put on the notice board.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: I'm running on Saturday, hype run club.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: The reason I called it hype is because I was often told I'm somebody's biggest hype girl.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Like I'm a big supporter, big fan.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: So I called it hype and I put it on the notice board, and then 20 people rocked up.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: And I was 20 people's no joke.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: First go.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I know, and I was disappointed.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: I was disappointed with that.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: And looking back, oh my goodness, how wonderful is that.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: But at the time, I'm like, oh my goodness, I thought there'd be more.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: But also, I am my own worst enemy when it comes to putting pressure on myself and to feel like I have to like have this point to prove.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And I don't.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: But I felt the pressure, you know.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: So put on the notice border and give everyone five days, you know.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: That's not much notice.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: And 20 people rocked up.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Quite a few of them were there, and they went to a gym that I used to be at.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: So they they were there for to support me.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: But there were six people that I'd never met.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And I thought, wow, six people didn't even know you lived in Broome and some one of them was traveling through.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: The idea behind it was I'm feeling a little bit lost and lonely.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: I don't really feel like I have a community at the moment.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: So I'm starting something of my own where I can bring people together.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: I wanted to stop that pressure of feeling like we all have to be against each other in the fitness industry.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: From someone who's been incredibly overweight to underweight to find imbalance.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: We don't need any extra shit.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Am I allowed to swear?
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course you can.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: We don't need any extra shit that's gonna contribute to we we really just need support.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Run club in Broome has become something else.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Going forward now, you've actually branched out into Port Headland.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: This thing is taking over.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: It's insane.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I want to know though.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I saw all the posts leading up to this only recently, and I'm like, what the hell is Run Club?
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: I thought this was something that I see a bunch of people opposite to Spinny parking up and starting to run.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Of like, what are those guys doing?
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And then to then hear that it's gone into Port Headland, did you approach somebody that is currently based there and lives there?
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Or did somebody from Port Headland go, hey, we see what you're doing in Broome, can you come and help us set it up?
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: How did that even eventuate?
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I think with the run club growing and seeing how, you know, sometimes we'll get 60, 70, 80 people.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: It's usually now more than 60, just seeing the connections that we're building.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: It just sparked interest.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I've got a friend, Coach Cody, in Port Headland who had met at F45 broom.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: She is based in Port Headland and she reached out to me and we had a video call, and she was like, Carlos, I reckon this will go off here.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, really?
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: I don't need the hassle though, Cody.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm working on all these other things.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: And she's like, I will help facilitate this.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: And at the time, I'm being guided into changing the club into not-for-profit organization.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: And I'm thinking, okay, well, yeah, I guess we need to make sure that businesses in Headland are gonna get behind this because I've been overwhelmed with support in Broome.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Are we gonna get in Headland?
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Because if we don't have it, then we're not gonna be able to hydrate everybody and buy the things we need, like the flags and the SKIs and just little things and fuel for me to get down and do workshops, you know?
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: I can't keep paying for all these things myself.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: With us becoming a not-for-profit club, those types of things can be covered.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: I said, to do you think we'll get the interest?
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: So we sent a few emails and it was, yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: They were like, yes, bring it here.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: And then we had over 80 people on the first hawk.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: It was Unreal at Spoil Bank Marina and Headland.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: And the night before I stood there, and I genuinely thought we'd get about 20 people.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: But we'd get about 20.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there ended up being 80.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: So it was sparked by a conversation with Cody who lives in Headland and said, we need this here.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Because really, yes, it's about the runs, but now it's also about the connections and friendships and sense of belonging and the community that's it's just happened naturally.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: It's not been forced, it's not been pushed, it just has happened.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I love everything about that.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: And for everything that you just said then, because there's not enough of this.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: I look, I go off on tangents about AI and all the rest of it, and everyone's doing everything on AI, and everything is well, the world itself has become so tech focused.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: But in-person events, in-person communities, anything that involves actually human interaction with people that have similar interests and there's no competitiveness behind it, that is rare to build on it and to let it grow naturally and organically is something that really should be celebrated.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: So I want to say straight away, thank you for doing this for the community, but also thank you for branching out into Port Headland.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Because look, I went to the Women of the Pilbur event last year.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I didn't know a single person besides the CEO of the chamber, and there are women there that was so incredibly forthcoming and welcoming.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: And I've and when I saw that you branched out there, I thought, I can't see this not being a thing.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: I can't see it not being successful.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: At the end of the day, we're all there for a different reason.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: You might have the mums that are wanting to lose a bit of baby weight, the men that are there that just want to have it for their mental health or to get out and feel like they're being, you know, this close-knit community.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: It seems like I myself could go and be gassed out and be completely unfit.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: But then you've got the likes of, you know, Matt.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Matt, yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Cohen, that's this freaking guy that just seems to have boundless amounts of energy.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: But you wouldn't be judged.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: No, that's that's so that's the thing.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what I wanted to create.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And I think that stems from being that woman who has been insecure, who has been on the other side of this journey and hasn't always been fit.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: So I know what it's like when a run a woman rocks up to my run club.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: I know straight away by looking at her if she's nervous, and I'm gonna make her feel comfortable and confident, and make sure that I'm telling everybody go as far as you want to go.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: You don't need to do 5k, you don't need to do 3k, do whatever feels comfortable.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Nobody is gonna judge you today.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: And I always say that, and it's genuine.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: And I think because I am so strong with that and firm that the group have followed that.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Your vibe is then attracting the vibe of everybody else around you.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna come and you're gonna show off, you're gonna be the the odd one out.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, I guess.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: So I think from there, and then we had a pram come.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: So then more prams and mums felt like they could come, and then dogs, and then we've got 20-year-olds, and then we've got 40-year-olds.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: It's just and then people who use it as part of their weekly schedule for their training, and people who use it for their mental health.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: We are just it's for everyone, and that's that's wild.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: When I say it's so crazy, like I didn't ever plan any of that, it has just happened organically, which is pretty cool.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: It is very cool.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Off camera, we have discussed smidge about dating.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, here we go.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: I know, and how you yourself have found it a slight well, slightly unnerving and unexpected, with you know, you losing obviously a shit ton of weight.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: There is this natural thing that happens with men where you start to get more male attention.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Um, and I hate to say it, but it's just the way that we all are wired up.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: How do you go about the fact that we do live in a small town and everybody knows everybody?
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I've never been on broom tinder, but I'm sure there's people that have fucking hooked up with such and such that's hooked up with such and such.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: How do you go about dating in broom, but still wanting to keep, you know, your personal life fairly private still?
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Where do we start?
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I think so I've been single coming up to two years.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I mentioned earlier about my son.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: I've been split up with his father coming up to two years.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: That first year, I went off the rails.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Run club wasn't involved then.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: This last year, I've really just set myself some boundaries and rules that just helped me navigate it.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I guess don't shit where you eat, so don't go near Run Club men.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Or women.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: When you say you went off the rails, are you saying you just went around running a damn muck in town?
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, like just going out a lot more, you know, being flirty.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying I slept with heaps of people, but I definitely was open to like, hey, enjoying the attention.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Single now, single, ready to mingle.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: And then I'm like, I don't want to mingle with any of you, actually.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: And I think, look, my my expectations of a man are probably unrealistic.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: And also who I'm imagining is gonna be in my future is probably unrealistic.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I'm asked a lot by girls.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: They say to me, like, oh, you know, you're dating or you're seeing anyone.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: How do you navigate it with, yeah, men in Broome?
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I go for people out of town.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: So I I tend to only sort of get myself involved with somebody who is passing through.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, being honest, passing through, great.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Happy days.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Happy days.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Especially with the accounts now getting bigger and my name getting out there more.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I don't want to be fucking around with broom men.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: It's just What happens though if you get like Channing Tatum look alike like dreamboat that rocks up to run club, but you've just preached that you don't want to I know.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I don't shit where I eat.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: What happens with that?
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Do you think?
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Are you gonna be open to it or look?
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: I think at the moment I'm so career focused.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: So you're just gonna continue practicing what you preach?
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have time.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I I don't you know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: A guy that comes into my life, oh my goodness, they're gonna have to be open to the way I am.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not easy, you know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: I'm so career-driven, I guess.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Very much I like to control everything around me.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, can't believe I'm admitting this.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I'm a controlling person, not so much in a relationship, just in all aspects of my life.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I'm quite controlling.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I struggle to give the reins to other people and you know, things like that.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: So I guess is a man gonna come into my world?
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: I really don't know.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: If it's the right person, the shit where you eat might go out the window, hey?
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe it will.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Watch this space.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Watch this space.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And dating in Broome is so hard.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: The amount of girls that reach out to me just in general, and it's just I don't know what it is.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: I'm still yet to figure it out, but I honestly think it could also be dating in general, in regards to life, yeah, pressures, but the way that society currently is.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, look, obviously, people that are listening to this know that my alter ego is Emma the celebrant, and I marry a shit ton of couples every year, and so there's hope.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: There is, and look, this is my eighth year.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: In the first two years, anybody that had met on Tinder, it was like a can you please not mention that we met on Tinder or Bumble or Plenty of Fish or whatever the fuck these apps are.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: And I'd be like, Yeah, yeah, cool, that's totally fine.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Now it's not even mentioned because it's so incredibly common.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Like last year I worked out 18 couples that I married all met on either Tinder or Bumble.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: And so I'm like, I don't care, I don't judge.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like no one gives a fine fuck anymore.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry to sound so crass, but it's just that it's just not.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: But if I marry a couple and I say, How did you guys meet?
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, we met like at the um, there was a couple recently, they met at the Mullawall rodeo.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: Man, I love those guys, they're country as.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, oh my god, the the rodeo?
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Like, who even does that?
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: Who meets in person at a friend's barbecue?
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Run club could I I don't we don't want to make it this thing where you know that's where you go to go date.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: However, I'm sure that there's only that's it's gotta be natural.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Yes, there are a few natural things that have progressed, not for me personally, but for some of the girls and the guys, and it's been beautiful to watch.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: And that's okay.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: Uh at the start of this, you mentioned, which I had absolutely no idea about.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I know you get a shock.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yep, I did.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Um, Deer in the hairlights kind of face.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: That yeah, you're a mum.
- 24:21unknown: Yes.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: You've got you've got this little boy.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: I have Judd, so we call him Juddy.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: That's cute.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Judd is five, and he is just my absolute world.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: And just because I don't post him doesn't mean anything.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: And I have to address that because last year, when I decided to take him off the Instagram, just because Run Club was growing and I've got that my account in the bio, and I was trying to keep the coaching side to coaching.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: And I do post the odd thing that isn't coaching related, but anyone that's on my private stories can see him.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: My family, they get their updates.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: We're in the group chats.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So I felt like I wanted to take him off there and just put him on my on my personal stories.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: And somebody said to me, Oh, you won't believe I saw such and such in Coles, and they said they can't believe that you've lost custody of Judd.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And I was mortified.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what?
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Just because I don't post him means that I've lost custody of my son, which is obviously not the truth.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Um I have a great co-parent relationship with his dad, and we do alternate weekends.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Um, during the week, he'll have him for run club days, I'll have him if he's going somewhere.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: We are super flexible.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: It's worked well.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: That's how we co-parent.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Some people might go, oh my gosh, that's a lot of back and forward.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: When we split up, it was a bit of back and forward, and it was an adjustment for Judd, but he is loved and we've done our best.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: And he's used to it now, you know.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: But not only that, I think also you need to, you know, give yourself props that the fact that you've worked hard at keeping it amicable, because that's the key word.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: Some people, I get it.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: I've got an amicable relationship with my ex-husband, and it's but it's taken time and it's taken energy and it does take work.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: There are times where you might go, God, he's annoying the shit out of me.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Or bloody hell, but in saying that, you guys are the adults.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: You've got Juddy.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: He knows that he's loved, but he also gets to be a part of both his mum's life and his dad's life.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: And I know that not everybody is very, you know, is blessed with having that situation, but it's not talked about enough.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: It's not, and I am super grateful for that co-parent relationship.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: As you just said, it is hard work at times, and you have gotta be patient.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: But look, it's for the best interests of Judge.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: I think for me, that comment has always stuck with me.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: So that people don't know I have a son.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: But he's he comes to run clubs sometimes, he's on his bike now, so yeah, he'll do 5k with us, and he is just the most beautiful little soul.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Um, super kind, super caring, and just he is he is a bit of a mummy's boy.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: So not only are you like the run club queen, extraordinaire, like community connector of all the universe, you have you're a mum and you've got son, wow.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, so what's next for you?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: In 2026, we've mentioned a few things I'm working on.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: So you don't have to give away all your secrets.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Watch this space, or even a snippet.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Snippet.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: Merchandise, merchandise, which is People love merch.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: People love merch, but oh my goodness, designing it, finding the fabric and the quality and the that will work within your quantity, that has been extremely hard.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: But I'm onto something.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: So merch, that's a big priority for me.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: I guess keeping the run clubs at a level that's manageable.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm expecting big turnouts in the dry season.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna get, you know, if it gets to up to that hundred mark, we need a plan.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Matt and I have started making a bit of a plan, um, maybe heading off in different directions.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: And, you know, we'll work on all of that.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: So I guess making sure safety, safety is I'm so degreal.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: So does he run at the front?
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: He does.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: So Matt is a lead runner.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: And I remember when he came to the first run club and it just this pace was incredible.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, hey, how long are you guys in Broome for?
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And he's like, oh, you know, probably not that long, but we might come back.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I think you need to lead these runs.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Because at that time I was still getting back into my running.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: I've been doing a lot of strength training.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, hmm, I need someone to lead this group.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Plus, it brought a different dynamic.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: A lot of guys would then come to run with Ma.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Not everyone comes to run with Carly.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Plus, he's a great guy.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's super friendly.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: And I feel like and he's not, he's not Macho.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: I feel like if you had a macho dude, I'm gonna be intimidated by it.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: But maybe other guys might be intimidated by that too.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: True.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: And bring out that natural competitiveness.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: And I think they run with their shirts off, and I get a few comments about that.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's intimidating.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: But you've just got to come and see it's just it's not, they're not running with their shirts off to, you know, flounce about and be like, look at me.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: They're actually running with their shirts off because it's so hot.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, it's probably because it's so bloody humid.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: It's humid, it's hot, and it's just, yeah, they whip it off and off they go.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: So what's next for me?
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: The merchandise, making sure safety is priority for the run club's potential expansion to another location and just doing more events that are community-based and workshops and things like that.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: And then And still Port Headland.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: Still Port Headland, yeah.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Maybe another new location we're looking at at the moment.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: And then I guess keep my coaching side of things, my my girls happy there and make sure they're enjoying everything I'm doing with them and working with them.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Look, I don't ask for much or want much.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: I'm I think I'm easily pleased.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: And I guess all these little businesses and things that I'm branching off to and like I'm doing retreats now.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: It is what it is.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Just let it happen.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Man, you're busy.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: But I love I'm I'm naturally attracted to people that are busy, that are ambitious, yeah, but that are kind and that are community-driven, and you tick all those boxes, and I love everything about what you just said, Dan.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I do rapid fire questions as we come towards the end of the episode.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to think too long and hard about these, okay?
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Whatever comes out of your mouth, as long as it's not the C word, because as much as I'm a fan of the C word, not everybody is a fan of it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: What is one thing that you wish for women in 2026?
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: To support each other as often and as I'm gonna give you an example.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Can I give you an example?
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Yesterday I was in the gym here and I saw a girl lifting, I think her name was Liv.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: I saw her lifting and she just looked incredible.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: I put down my dumbbells, I walked over to Liv, who I found out her name was.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: I think it was Liv.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: And I said, You look incredible.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: And she looked shocked.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: She took her headphones off and she looked shocked.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And I said, sorry, I was that was probably really random.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: I said, Your body is keep doing you, you look amazing.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: And she was like, Oh, I've seen you around.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Actually, you the rung club.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: But I'm like, yes.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: I'm from Run Club.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: And then she introduced herself.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: More of that, please.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: In Broom, we can make a difference.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: Small town, we can make a difference in supporting each other, telling each other when we look good, but also telling each other when we're a shit person as well.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: Just well, everyone knows me about that.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: But yes.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: Each other up, not tearing each other down.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Love that.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Everything about that.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: That's big ticks and a gold star.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: Now, if you weren't doing fitness though, what would you be doing?
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: I really do not know.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: This has become part of your brand and your identity and your personality.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: I remember um KS Media photographer in Broom and he said to me, Carly, Cream.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Cream, yes.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: He said, This is a this is a brand, you know, you've created.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, is it?
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: He's like, this is a brand.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: With without you've intent you've unintentionally built a brand by being yourself.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, wow, how cool is that?
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: And that that was one of the things he said, you know, eight months ago.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: That's put me on the right path.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: But um, what would I be doing?
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: I really don't know.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Because all of my interests and hobbies are now surrounding that.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: What did I want to do growing up?
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: I think I had no idea.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: That's why I ended up in Australia.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: Very confused, very lost.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, that just goes to show that you can make such a life change and a day at the Sydney Harbour watching other people around you has now made you who you are today.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: I love stories like that.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: This is gonna be interesting because I know that you're not a teacher, but I thought that this is a question that I could ask you.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: If you could add anything to the teaching curriculum in regards to students, you know, high school curriculum, I should really put it, but you could even do it for the primary one.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: For women's health and, you know, identity, anything along those lines.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Is there something that you would add?
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Confidence, confidence workshops, I think.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Because I guess as a as a coach now in the fitness industry, sometimes I feel like I, you know, I'm a bit more of a life coach.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: And that's because a lot of the women I work with are lacking confidence in themselves.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: I was that person.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I've become more confident over time.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And if we could try and get this happening at a younger age, because I think to myself sometimes, oh my gosh, if I would have only known what I was capable of a few years, like I literally feel unstoppable lately.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: And it's from believing in myself, being confident, knowing my abilities, surrounding myself with good people, very important.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: No negativity, stay, stay away.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Any negativity comes into my life, you are gone.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Gone, snip, cut off, removed.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And I encourage anyone to do that.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: The moment you start letting that negativity sleep into your life, everything's a downward spiral.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: So keep them out.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: And I think if we can get confidence sorted early and try and build girls confidence in themselves and body image, and if we can do that, we'd be on to something, I think.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: You can just nail that.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: And I wish you could see your face.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: You're so passionate.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: I feel like my eyes are really squinty then I'm like, no, but I love it.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: You're like, let's fucking do this.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Let's do it.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, last one.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Something that you are truly grateful for.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: My son, definitely my son.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: He grounds me.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: I'm doing this for him.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: I want a good life with him.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I want to give him anything that I can and just, yeah, be happy.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: I'm grateful for him.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Grateful for Juddy.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: Grateful for Juddy.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Grateful for my health.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Grateful that I'm now a confident woman and not this depressing little soul that I've been in the past, you know?
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Grateful.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: At the very end of every episode, I always get my guest to do a shout-out.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: And it can be anybody.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be a famous person.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be anybody that I know or whoever's listening knows.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: But I'm just trying to create this movement of something similar to what you're doing, but minus the exercise part.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Is giving a shout-out to a woman could be two people, three people, whatever, but somebody that's made a significant change in your life or somebody that is one of your biggest supporters that you just want to give this moment to as a shout-out.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, okay.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Lizzie is in Broome.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: She's my best friend and her partner, Emile.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: It's got to be them to begin with, because they've heard all my crazy ideas and they've supported me and they've backed me and they've pushed me.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Honestly, they they always say to me, no, stop giving us credit.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: No, they deserve credit because I know without their support, I don't think I would have achieved what I've achieved.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: I remember I came up with the Run Club idea.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, Carly, do it.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: If there's anyone who can do it, it's you.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: That's what she says to me.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: And she has definitely built me up as a woman.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: And all the stories, you know, when I went off the rails, I'd be like, oh yeah, I fucked up.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: And she's just, she's hated all.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: She's never judged me.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: She loves me regardless.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: So Lizzie and Emile.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Emile is a jujitsu coach.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: And it's funny, I said to someone the other day about how close I am with Emile as well, and that I messaged him separately to Lizzie.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: And like, but that's Lizzie's boyfriend.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: You message him.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: I'm like, yeah.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: How was their third wheel for like two years?
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Like, so I'll message Emile on his like separately to Lizzie.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: I'm like, hey, what do you reckon about this?
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: And he's like, yes or no.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: But I love that though.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I don't know Emil that well, and I know that he's very well received, obviously, in the jiu-jitsu community.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And he's just this great guy.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: But I love the fact that obviously Lizzie is secure in your friendship and their relationship alone.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: Where I think it's important to get a male's perspective on things.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Men see things completely different to women.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: And the more times that women can see that obviously Carly's not in there sniffing around my man, Emile's got stuff that's wisdom, nuggets of wisdom that only a man can give you.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: Where they're gonna look at things completely different and go, hey, look, fucking hell, Carly, pull your head in.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: Or no, you can do this.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I'm saying that you could do this and you need to go do it.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Stop mucking about, pull your finger out and let's do this.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: I'm just assuming it's that.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: Absolutely that.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: You've just nailed Emile in a nutshell.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: He is like, pull your finger out, you need to be doing this, this, and this.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: And then he'll check in with me and be like, Why didn't you do that?
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: You said you would do it.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh yeah, okay, right.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: So that belief, and then Lizzie, just that loving, oh, she's so funny as well.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: She's just real.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, so shout out to Lizzie and Emile.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: And another one, another broom-based woman would be, you guys would know her in the tattoo industry.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: So Noelle.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: She has Noelle Eve Art and We love her.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: We love her.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: Everybody loves her.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: If anybody doesn't love her, then they can come see me.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: And I'm not normally an aggressive person, but she is just sweet.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: This little pocket.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: I still actually, every time I see her, I'm like, I forget how small you are.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: She's so tidy.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: But she done this tattoo here, the butterfly on me, and we spent seven and a half hours together, and the rest is history.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: And since that date, she's just been someone I can I can just rely on.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: And she knows I'm the same for her.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: I hope she does.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: She's just a wonderful person.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: And it's really great because these two women have came into my life much later.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm 36 and I've only met them in the last you know few years.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: But I also think I've pushed many people away for a long time and didn't have friendships and thought, nope, don't need anyone else.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: And that I've let those two in, and I'm so glad that I have.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's so sweet.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, shout out to Noelle.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: She knows who she is.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Everyone that's listening is probably nodding, going, yes, yes, we know what she's like.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: She's like this tiny little dynamo, amazing woman.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: With a needle.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: With uh yes.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I still need to come and get her to do my other swifty tattoos.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: But yes, she is fabulous.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Listen, I've had the best time with you today.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: We could be here till Christmas, literally till Christmas, I reckon.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: Just yarning and chatting about all things.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: I think, you know, I do need to practice what I preach.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: There will be one time where you will see me randomly.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: I will rock up to run club.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Yay! I will come there one time at least.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: I'll promise you that.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Everyone that knows me knows, A, I hate running because my boobs hurt and I paid a lot of money for these.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: And I probably need to get a better, better supportive graph.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: But not only that, uh exercise and me we're not friends, but I need to do it because I'm getting old and the knees are starting to creak.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: When I was watching your face and your passion for just even describing Run Club and how um inclusive it is, there was a light bulb moment where I thought, you know what, I can come at least one time.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: So you guys will see me there at least one time.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: You can hold me to that.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for being here with me today.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you, and I'm sure there's going to be people out there that have listened today's episode, and even if they take away one snippet, then you've made a difference.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, I hope so.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate you.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Carly.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening to She Said It Out Loud.
