- 0:15Speaker 1: Hey guys, we got another great episode of the Tailgate
- 0:18Speaker 1: this week. Die Hard Bears fan Matt Jones. You might
- 0:21Speaker 1: know him from Breaking Bad, you might know him from
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Office. You might know him from Bob Hart's Abashola,
- 0:27Speaker 1: which is on its fifth season on CBS. He is fantastic.
- 0:31Speaker 1: This was an excellent episode. I hope you guys love it.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I don't know what's Tom dare. Hey, we gotta go here,
- 0:40Speaker 2: we gotta go.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Let's go, so Tim Week twelve Viking Fans Bears Week.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I know we're coming off of disappointment, but it's time
- 0:54Speaker 1: to get right right before the bye. And joining me
- 0:58Speaker 1: to discuss whether that will be a possibility for our
- 1:02Speaker 1: beloved Vikings is Diehard Bears fan Matt Jones. Matt, thank
- 1:06Speaker 1: you for joining the show.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Man, Hey, thanks for having me.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I have to tell you, I think everyone in our
- 1:13Speaker 1: fan base is looking at this and probably everyone in
- 1:16Speaker 1: your fan base is looking at this game as a
- 1:19Speaker 1: no brainer, get right. This is a when the Vikings
- 1:23Speaker 1: can get going into the by I think there's a
- 1:25Speaker 1: lot of people that have checked the box. And I
- 1:28Speaker 1: don't know if it's my pessimistic fan brain, I don't
- 1:33Speaker 1: know what it is, but I have serious concerns going
- 1:38Speaker 1: into this week despite the product that your favorite team
- 1:42Speaker 1: has put the on the field all year with fields
- 1:45Speaker 1: coming back last week and I know that was an
- 1:47Speaker 1: epic collapse, but they did. They looked pretty good for
- 1:51Speaker 1: a vast majority of the game.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Look. I one thing that the Bears and Vikings have
- 1:57Speaker 2: really always had in common is we both really know
- 2:00Speaker 2: how to lose, Like they really know how to lose games.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We should really win. It's unbelievable. It's really funny. I'm
- 2:09Speaker 2: actually kind of a a reluctant Vikings fan as well,
- 2:14Speaker 2: because my wife, she her dad, and brothers and brother
- 2:20Speaker 2: are massive Vikings fans. Like her dad is the biggest
- 2:24Speaker 2: Vikings fan, Like he wears Vikings putties and shirts to everything,
- 2:31Speaker 2: Like at a funeral, he'll be in a Vikings sweather
- 2:35Speaker 2: maybe a black Viking sweatsher, but it'll still say Vikings
- 2:38Speaker 2: on it. So he's a massive Vikings fan. And he
- 2:41Speaker 2: and I have watched games together, like he was there.
- 2:45Speaker 2: We watched the double Doink Bear Bears game together, and
- 2:48Speaker 2: then we watched the the other Viking Kicker collapse in
- 2:53Speaker 2: the playoffs a couple of years ago, you.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, the Blairwash, the Blairwash disaster.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So we text each other, you know, it's just
- 3:00Speaker 2: I understand when the Vikings lose by a little because
- 3:04Speaker 2: we do it all the time.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was. We're both coming off the heels
- 3:09Speaker 1: of exactly what you just said, hurting because of losing
- 3:16Speaker 1: a game we should not have lost. That's what we're both.
- 3:18Speaker 1: We're both jumping off. But before I ask you anything else,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I can't. I could do an entire show on people
- 3:25Speaker 1: I know who have worn Vikings memorabilia to important moments, graduations, weddings, funerals.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I have family members that if they show up to
- 3:35Speaker 1: a wedding not in Minnesota Vikings crocs, I almost have
- 3:40Speaker 1: to ask them what's wrong.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It's like, if you're a Raiders fan, sure, I get it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Even a Patriots fan, Vikings colors could not be more loud.
- 3:49Speaker 2: You could see a Vikings fan from fifty yards away.
- 3:52Speaker 2: It's insane how loud. The colors are I mean, we
- 3:55Speaker 2: got the Lakers here in LA. I'm actually a Lakers fan,
- 3:59Speaker 2: and you know, it's just is equally ugly. They're just
- 4:01Speaker 2: you know, they're just not beautiful colors.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It's really obnoxious. They are really, really, really obnoxious colors
- 4:08Speaker 1: that people wear incredibly proudly.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 1: The other thing we have in common is a long
- 4:16Speaker 1: and you guys more so than us and I never
- 4:18Speaker 1: get to say that to somebody, but a long, comical
- 4:22Speaker 1: rotation of quarterbacks.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It's it's insane.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's crazy, this thing where Justin Fields was gonna be
- 4:32Speaker 1: the answer and now he might not be the answer.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And now I told you before the show, I think
- 4:38Speaker 1: you might be one of the most interesting teams in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the league. I know that might not make sense to
- 4:42Speaker 1: some people, but to have the Panthers pick and your
- 4:46Speaker 1: pick to potentially have the top two picks in a
- 4:49Speaker 1: draft that has two really really good quarterbacks, well you
- 4:53Speaker 1: also have a maybe guy on your roster. What a
- 4:56Speaker 1: weird What a weird scenario. The Bears are in.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Also, we have a ton of cap space. It's just
- 5:03Speaker 2: a really I don't know, it looks like the coach
- 5:07Speaker 2: might get fired I don't know, he might not like
- 5:11Speaker 2: I like what Ryan Poles our gam is doing in
- 5:13Speaker 2: a lot of ways, but he had to really start
- 5:17Speaker 2: from nothing, like they really cleaned house, and I just
- 5:22Speaker 2: feel that I don't know. This is a longer discussion
- 5:26Speaker 2: of how often does a number one pick quarterback work out? Like,
- 5:32Speaker 2: how often does that really work out? Pretty rarely?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Not a ton? Yeah, it's shockingly not a ton.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah, like it just I mean c J. Stroud number two,
- 5:43Speaker 2: he looks pretty amazing. That That is as close as
- 5:47Speaker 2: I can think of in quite a while where a
- 5:49Speaker 2: number one really worked out. But then I think a
- 5:51Speaker 2: number one like Miles Garrett, that's who I want as
- 5:54Speaker 2: a Bears fan. I love Bears defenses, I love Bears
- 5:59Speaker 2: d We just don't have any like monsters in the
- 6:03Speaker 2: midway anymore. We just don't. It just doesn't feel like.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It is that like a psychology thing? Is that? Because
- 6:09Speaker 1: I know I have a lot of friends who are
- 6:11Speaker 1: Bears fan and I have most of my Bears fan
- 6:15Speaker 1: friends are more proud of the linebackers you guys have
- 6:18Speaker 1: had than their own children.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I don't know. It's something about
- 6:27Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how old you are. But
- 6:29Speaker 2: like the Bill Romanowski days, like when linebackers were scary people,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, when they really hurt each other. And the
- 6:38Speaker 2: Bears just always had players like that for so long.
- 6:42Speaker 2: And I think we do have some really great young
- 6:44Speaker 2: defensive players. It's just we don't have like that superstar
- 6:48Speaker 2: like we always have had like that, just you know,
- 6:52Speaker 2: like when we had Khalil Mack was really fun, or
- 6:56Speaker 2: Julius Peppers.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Well, to go from Brian Urlacker to Khalil Mack and
- 7:01Speaker 1: it's almost this different position, but so rare in the NFL,
- 7:06Speaker 1: like going from Brett farv Darreon Rodgers. You don't just
- 7:09Speaker 1: see hall of fame player hand a position off to
- 7:12Speaker 1: another hall of fame player within an organization very often.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Well like the Vikings when you guys, when I knows
- 7:18Speaker 2: Randall Cunningham and Chris Carter and Randy mosson that, like
- 7:23Speaker 2: it was the coolest offense at that time, We've never
- 7:27Speaker 2: had that ever. No, we've met like in a hundred years.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just gonna say, you haven't, you haven't,
- 7:34Speaker 1: probably haven't had And it's funny. Jim McMahon is the
- 7:38Speaker 1: guy that everybody talks about but if you know true
- 7:41Speaker 1: Bears fans and people really follow football, No, you know
- 7:45Speaker 1: this is not a slight on Jim McMahon, but it was.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I think you and I could have quarterbacked and tight
- 7:53Speaker 1: end did that off like you almost could have punted
- 7:56Speaker 1: every time. That's how comical that defense was. So it's
- 8:00Speaker 1: it does have to be weird to be living in
- 8:03Speaker 1: the era of modern NFL offense when defense has been
- 8:08Speaker 1: a century long calling card for you guys.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Jim mcmannon is he was like a
- 8:13Speaker 2: quarterback who was like a linebacker. You know what I mean,
- 8:16Speaker 2: You're like, oh, is that a linebacker. I'm not thrilled
- 8:21Speaker 2: about being a Bears fan. I have kids, and my
- 8:25Speaker 2: son turned to me the other day, he's like, why
- 8:27Speaker 2: are we Bears fans? You're so upset. It's like, I
- 8:32Speaker 2: don't know, man, you could be whoever you want to be.
- 8:34Speaker 2: You go be a any kind of fan you want.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I don't care. I'm done dragging dragging people.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Down, bringing your children into your misery.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah, because I get so deep into it and I
- 8:46Speaker 2: just get so upset.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I will tell you though, I think there's a
- 8:52Speaker 1: chance hear me out. Let me pitch you. Let me
- 8:54Speaker 1: a Vikings fan pitch you on the Bears because of
- 8:58Speaker 1: what you said, Because they have a ton of cap room,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and there's a lot of people who think the cap
- 9:02Speaker 1: is going to go up right, and you have these
- 9:06Speaker 1: top two picks, you have other picks throughout other rounds.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Like I think the NFL isn't like the NBA. In
- 9:14Speaker 1: the NBA, there are only a few cities players want
- 9:16Speaker 1: to go to. There aren't guaranteed contracts. The salary cap
- 9:20Speaker 1: has the luxury tax. They don't even have a salary
- 9:23Speaker 1: cap in baseball. So the salary cap is the true.
- 9:26Speaker 1: It is the true like just even or outer that's equalize.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you. You want the look if I
- 9:37Speaker 1: knowing this show is not a video show, if you
- 9:39Speaker 1: would have seen the look on my eyes as I
- 9:42Speaker 1: was searching for the word equalizer, I have never felt
- 9:46Speaker 1: more like one of my cousins and Viking crocs at
- 9:49Speaker 1: a wedding. Well, you know, cause it's even outer her.
- 9:54Speaker 1: So the true even or outer her is the salary cap.
- 9:59Speaker 1: And I think NFL teams, if done correctly, can not
- 10:07Speaker 1: just turn themselves around in a couple of years, but
- 10:10Speaker 1: can contend in a couple of years. So if you
- 10:13Speaker 1: to your point, I'm also a big believer that the
- 10:17Speaker 1: biggest differentiator now I'm rolling with words. The biggest differentiator
- 10:22Speaker 1: in the league is getting a superstar on a rookie contract.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Like had the Cowboys not drafted Micah Parsons, we wouldn't
- 10:32Speaker 1: even be They would be a disaster over there. They
- 10:35Speaker 1: have one of the best defensive players in the league
- 10:37Speaker 1: for multiple years on a rookie deal. If you guys
- 10:39Speaker 1: go and you get a Miles Garrett with one of
- 10:41Speaker 1: the top couple picks, a guy of that level, and
- 10:44Speaker 1: you get an offensive stud even a quarterback, and then
- 10:47Speaker 1: you have a good quarterback on a rookie deal and
- 10:50Speaker 1: a stud defender and all this cap room. That's the
- 10:53Speaker 1: cool thing about the NFL. You might be two years away.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And I also am a fan of Ryan Poles, and
- 10:58Speaker 1: I think, I don't know, I'm just not out on
- 11:01Speaker 1: the future of the Bears like everybody else seems to be.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think that when I think of the
- 11:09Speaker 2: happiest times as a Bears fan, for me, it's when
- 11:12Speaker 2: we had a culture and we had you know, you're
- 11:17Speaker 2: just like love you as our coach. I love, lovey
- 11:20Speaker 2: love you as our coach and then we've just been
- 11:23Speaker 2: searching for a coach since then. It just every two
- 11:26Speaker 2: to three years we get a new coach. And I
- 11:29Speaker 2: just want a coach to stick more than the players,
- 11:33Speaker 2: because you know, look at Belichick, look at Mike Tomlin,
- 11:36Speaker 2: you look at all these guys. You know, if we
- 11:38Speaker 2: had a coach, even like a Jim Harbaugh for fifteen
- 11:41Speaker 2: twenty years, that it just takes care of so much
- 11:45Speaker 2: other things because that's what your team is. Your team
- 11:48Speaker 2: is that thing now, and now we need players to
- 11:52Speaker 2: be a part of that thing. And it feels like
- 11:54Speaker 2: we've been drafting players to figure out what the team is.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And you're like, no, these are twenty two year olds.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Let's you know what I mean? These are also do
- 12:03Speaker 2: you ever think about how much we're churing on children.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I'm just so obsessed with this one year old.
- 12:11Speaker 1: There's nothing it's been because you and I think are
- 12:14Speaker 1: about the same age, and it is a hard transition. Yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 1: to move into NFL retirement age. Yeah, Like I'm right
- 12:22Speaker 1: in that, have my press conference age. Yeah, And that's
- 12:25Speaker 1: that's hard because now you're like, come on, twenty four
- 12:28Speaker 1: year old don't ruin my day.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. My son's like, oh, how long ago to
- 12:34Speaker 2: Gronk retire? I was like a couple of years ago.
- 12:36Speaker 2: He's like, is he older than you? I was like, no, no,
- 12:39Speaker 2: he's much younger than me. Gronk is younger than me.
- 12:45Speaker 1: No.
- 12:45Speaker 2: But I just want us to get a coach and
- 12:48Speaker 2: a GM that works together well, and then we build
- 12:51Speaker 2: players from there. I think that is if you're really
- 12:55Speaker 2: rebuilding over the long haul. You know, like any quarterback,
- 12:59Speaker 2: you can get the greatest quarterback in the world, and
- 13:00Speaker 2: you know, you can tear a his acl and then
- 13:03Speaker 2: that's the end, and then you have nothing. So then
- 13:07Speaker 2: you need a coach and a culture.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's the Tomlin effect. It's the patriot It's like, I
- 13:13Speaker 1: know the Patriots are struggling right now, but it's the
- 13:15Speaker 1: old niners. Put the put the big machine in place, yes,
- 13:20Speaker 1: and then let the big machine take care of all
- 13:23Speaker 1: the tasks.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I was I was dating this woman when I was younger,
- 13:28Speaker 1: and I was talking about she's great, great person, but
- 13:33Speaker 1: it just I was talking to my mom and I said,
- 13:35Speaker 1: you know, I think I just don't think it's working out.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I go, there's a lot of comfort there. It's really nice,
- 13:40Speaker 1: it's really easy, but I go, but I don't feel
- 13:42Speaker 1: the spark. And I remember my mom basically going, oh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you're a really stupid person. Comfort. Comfort is everything. And
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think about that when you said the Lovey Smith thing,
- 13:54Speaker 1: that's a sports thing that happens all the time where
- 13:56Speaker 1: you're always looking for like that big flash and spark
- 13:59Speaker 1: and and like with Lovey Smith, Lovey Smith provided something
- 14:04Speaker 1: like you said that you guys haven't had since and
- 14:07Speaker 1: you've kind of been on that. I don't know how
- 14:10Speaker 1: many it's been, but it feels like every couple of years,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you guys are like, what if we got a new
- 14:14Speaker 1: GM and coach? Yeah, every couple of years.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It's so silly. And also, like you guys, I really
- 14:21Speaker 2: like your coach, you know, I think she's I think
- 14:23Speaker 2: she is the young thing of what I'm talking about.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Like some people, you're like, oh, man, you're such a
- 14:31Speaker 2: great offensive coordinator, and then you make him a head
- 14:33Speaker 2: coach and the team inplodes. You're like, just keep him
- 14:36Speaker 2: an offensive coordinator. That's what he's good at.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Here's the thing that I'm pitching right now, cause I
- 14:41Speaker 1: love I love where your brain's going, Matt, and let
- 14:43Speaker 1: me pitch you an even dumber idea. I this Brian
- 14:49Speaker 1: Flores thing in Minnesota right now.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I know, I know, it's interesting, it's it's.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Bananas, yea, to have him having blitzweights that are historic
- 14:58Speaker 1: and doing it with guy no one has ever heard of.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I mean, they gave up that late touchdown against the Broncos,
- 15:05Speaker 1: but that was outrageous. That they're doing that without their
- 15:08Speaker 1: leading tackler, you know, without their biggest free agency and
- 15:11Speaker 1: it's bananas. I think, give him whatever he wants money
- 15:16Speaker 1: and let's be the first NFL team to have co
- 15:19Speaker 1: head coaches. Oh, let's very very dumb. No one's gonna
- 15:24Speaker 1: get on board with it.
- 15:25Speaker 2: And this is a pretty stupid idea, to be honest.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's such a stupid idea. But all I can think
- 15:31Speaker 1: about is, I'm like, so, Brian Flores is doing this
- 15:35Speaker 1: with this group of dudes, right, So if he can
- 15:40Speaker 1: do that with that, what happens with some investment, what
- 15:44Speaker 1: happens with some time being allowed to really develop some
- 15:48Speaker 1: of the young talent. I mean, he's gonna be a
- 15:50Speaker 1: head coach.
- 15:52Speaker 2: He interviewed for the Bears when Eberflus is hired, and
- 15:55Speaker 2: I don't know why I would have rather. I think
- 15:58Speaker 2: all of us would have rather.
- 15:59Speaker 1: An I say, give him whatever money he wants, let
- 16:04Speaker 1: him work together as some weird duo coach like dual
- 16:08Speaker 1: coach system, and I don't want to lose him. That's
- 16:11Speaker 1: there's something about when you cause you're it's we have
- 16:13Speaker 1: the opposite. You've had defenses forever. We did have one
- 16:16Speaker 1: with with Mike Zimmer, but we our defenses come around
- 16:20Speaker 1: like solar eclipse right right, So it feels pretty nice
- 16:24Speaker 1: and I'm I'm willing to do something really stupid to
- 16:27Speaker 1: keep him around.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah. Also we have so much like
- 16:33Speaker 2: Tyson Pagent m hmm. I think has not gotten his
- 16:36Speaker 2: fair shake of like going too and two and I
- 16:40Speaker 2: don't want to hear anything about him being a Division
- 16:42Speaker 2: two quarterback for any rookie quarterback, Going too and two
- 16:46Speaker 2: in the middle of the season is really good. And
- 16:50Speaker 2: he almost won another one of those games, and if
- 16:53Speaker 2: he would have, I don't know, had time with the
- 16:55Speaker 2: ones in the offseason everything. I think he could be
- 16:59Speaker 2: a serviceable quarterback for another team. He probably will at
- 17:03Speaker 2: some point, but we have a great backup for the
- 17:06Speaker 2: next three years on a rookie deal. Who's going or
- 17:10Speaker 2: maybe he only I know he's undrafted. I don't know
- 17:12Speaker 2: what his deal is. But yeah, but regardless, we found
- 17:16Speaker 2: a really good backup quarterback. But yes, there's no reason
- 17:20Speaker 2: he couldn't be a Kirk Cousins at some point. Kirk
- 17:23Speaker 2: Cousins was not great his first couple of years in Washington.
- 17:26Speaker 2: He was, you know, a rookie quarterback. I just there's
- 17:30Speaker 2: so much pressure on rookie quarterbacks. It's just it's.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Ridiculous, especially in today's NFL, where it's get him in,
- 17:38Speaker 1: get him playing right away. I couldn't agree more. My
- 17:40Speaker 1: dad and I were watching him, and situation has so
- 17:46Speaker 1: much influence.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Over, I mean, there are some guys like you look
- 17:49Speaker 1: at CJ. Stroud, you mentioned him, and you're like, well,
- 17:52Speaker 1: this dude's a game breaker now, now I he that's
- 17:56Speaker 1: one of my favorite coaches in the league down there.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah he was. He's a great linebacker two man.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He was, and such a good defensive coordinator. Yeah he was.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'm very happy with Kevin O'Connell. When we first started looking,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Demico Ryans was top of my list. Yeah, but I
- 18:13Speaker 1: think CJ. Stroud is special, and I think he's special
- 18:16Speaker 1: in almost any environment he's put into. But so many
- 18:19Speaker 1: of these guys, You're a product of your situation, your opportunity,
- 18:25Speaker 1: your surroundings, and for you guys to be you know,
- 18:27Speaker 1: going into the season, I think there are a lot
- 18:29Speaker 1: of people that thought, well, the Bears are going to
- 18:31Speaker 1: be the worst team in the NFL. That was a possibility.
- 18:34Speaker 1: So you take this guy who walked into that like
- 18:38Speaker 1: in the middle of the season with no time in
- 18:41Speaker 1: the office. I was flabbergasted that you guys went to Yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I'll sound like a rambling idiot, but I feel the
- 18:49Speaker 1: exact same way. Give that dude all the credit in
- 18:52Speaker 1: the world for what he did.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I will say, as a prognosticator of you know, Bear's lower, uh,
- 19:01Speaker 2: we will do the most bearst thing ever. I guarantee
- 19:04Speaker 2: in the next six games, will probably win four of them.
- 19:08Speaker 2: When it doesn't matter it's just you know, lower our
- 19:12Speaker 2: draft pick. We're gonna win probably four games. We might
- 19:15Speaker 2: beat you guys next week, Like it's that kind of
- 19:17Speaker 2: trap game. You should you should win, Vikings should win.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But if you go to any Vikings or Bears history,
- 19:25Speaker 2: that it's it's a coin toss. He really is. Our
- 19:28Speaker 2: defense is starting to look really good because they're healthy,
- 19:31Speaker 2: and our offense is you know, it's a it's a
- 19:35Speaker 2: coin toss. You never know, you really never know.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, It's it's just I've we've played the Bears enough
- 19:41Speaker 1: in my life for me to not have any hopes
- 19:44Speaker 1: about any and unfortunately we've already handled the soldier soldier
- 19:48Speaker 1: field situation where we walk in there and with a
- 19:51Speaker 1: good team and go, oh, I guess we're gonna lose
- 19:53Speaker 1: to this three win squad. But I yeah, I it
- 19:58Speaker 1: wouldn't surprise me at all if you guys went on
- 20:00Speaker 1: a run, but it would devastate me as a Bears fan.
- 20:05Speaker 1: There has it ever? Has it ever happened where a
- 20:07Speaker 1: team has had the first and second pick, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 1: without trading and creating. I mean, that can't have been
- 20:13Speaker 1: a thing before, and that that would be so to
- 20:16Speaker 1: deal with a shit season.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I feel like the Texan it was like the Texans
- 20:21Speaker 2: or the Cardinals did it a couple of years ago
- 20:24Speaker 2: where they had.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The Texans had the Texans last season grabbed Yep, they
- 20:29Speaker 1: went up and got a couple of them. But I
- 20:31Speaker 1: don't know that anybody's ever had one too. I mean,
- 20:34Speaker 1: that would be you go, oh, my football team, at
- 20:39Speaker 1: least in their opinion, gets the two best football players
- 20:44Speaker 1: in the entire draft. That would be something to get
- 20:47Speaker 1: really excited about.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I don't know if I think if we got if
- 20:51Speaker 2: we had let's say number one and number five, which
- 20:54Speaker 2: probably is what it's going to be, I would I
- 20:57Speaker 2: would trade the first pick. We got so much out
- 21:01Speaker 2: of our first pick this year we got we got
- 21:04Speaker 2: DJ Moore out of it. It was, you know, yep, superstar.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I would trade the first pick. I would take Drake
- 21:12Speaker 2: May at five, and then uh, you know, and then
- 21:15Speaker 2: whatever pick we got, we'd probably get somewhere around it
- 21:19Speaker 2: between a ten and fifteen pick and get a great
- 21:22Speaker 2: someone great for defense. This Marvin Harrison, this Marvin Harrison
- 21:26Speaker 2: talk is we've not It's just I don't think. I
- 21:30Speaker 2: don't we don't need a wide receiver. We don't. We
- 21:33Speaker 2: don't need it as bad as we need everything else.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and with the way the with the way the
- 21:39Speaker 1: NFL seems to be evolving wide receiver, what a I'm
- 21:45Speaker 1: such an idiot. I don't know anything about anything, but
- 21:47Speaker 1: it seems that the guys that you really struggle to
- 21:51Speaker 1: find the offensive and defensive lineman if you have a
- 21:54Speaker 1: chance at the best one of those dudes. For me,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I'm always taking the best one of those and I'm
- 22:00Speaker 1: hoping that I can snag an aman Ro Saint Brown
- 22:04Speaker 1: in the fourth round. Yeah, that's always my hope.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you can get you. There's always great wide receivers
- 22:10Speaker 2: in the second and third round.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I just can we take one moment and just as
- 22:15Speaker 1: a duo, just even though they won on Sunday, can
- 22:19Speaker 1: we both just revel in the destruction that is the
- 22:25Speaker 1: Packer fan base's emotions right now? Isn't it sweet?
- 22:29Speaker 2: It's that's that's my point. I have a a friend
- 22:33Speaker 2: of mine, I'm Sam Richardson. He's an actor, ye Tim Robinson.
- 22:36Speaker 2: They're huge Detroit Lions fans, and I have Vikings fans.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Detroit Lions fans all of us kill. All we can
- 22:43Speaker 2: agree is just we all root for each other at
- 22:46Speaker 2: this point. I don't know if we're all just been
- 22:48Speaker 2: so hurt over the last twenty years, but we generally
- 22:53Speaker 2: root for each other's teams. I won't last night, it
- 22:56Speaker 2: wasn't that mad. We lost to the Lions. I mean
- 22:58Speaker 2: in spectacular fashion, of course, but you know I'm rooting
- 23:02Speaker 2: for the Lions. I like Dan Campbell. It's literally anyone
- 23:06Speaker 2: but the Packers, like anyone. I just hate the Packers
- 23:10Speaker 2: so much. I was at the game when it was
- 23:14Speaker 2: negative ten below. It was negative ten. We all we
- 23:20Speaker 2: have to do is win the game and we're in
- 23:22Speaker 2: the playoffs and it's us versus the Packers, and Aaron
- 23:27Speaker 2: Rodgers went the length of the field I think, converted
- 23:34Speaker 2: three fourth down three fourth down conversions in a row,
- 23:41Speaker 2: and then over the top to Ranal Cobb to win
- 23:43Speaker 2: the game, and we and it was snowing and to
- 23:49Speaker 2: walk out of Soldier Field in silence. Everyone was No
- 23:52Speaker 2: one was mad or angry. It was just quiet, quiet
- 23:56Speaker 2: hatred for the Packers. Everybody was just like I hate
- 24:00Speaker 2: them so much. How why do they get to do
- 24:04Speaker 2: that over and over again? Why do they get to
- 24:06Speaker 2: do that? And it's not just Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre too, like,
- 24:11Speaker 2: it's just it was so long, it was so long.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I hate them, like no, Now, Jordan Love might end
- 24:18Speaker 1: up being a perennial Pro Bowl player, Like we never
- 24:23Speaker 1: know how guys are gonna turn out. But right now,
- 24:27Speaker 1: I think the expectations that a lot of Packers fans had, like, well,
- 24:30Speaker 1: we'll just send Aaron off and then we'll plug Jordan
- 24:33Speaker 1: in and then we're just gonna keep this. We're gonna
- 24:35Speaker 1: keep this Green and Gold train cruising.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And the arrogance, the arrogance of Packers fans that they
- 24:44Speaker 2: that they didn't even realize they had. How do you
- 24:47Speaker 2: not know Aaron Rodgers however you want to feel about it, whatever,
- 24:51Speaker 2: He's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He
- 24:53Speaker 2: just yes, And they had they just they just threw
- 24:57Speaker 2: them away like they weren't even upsetting was leaving what
- 25:01Speaker 2: It is wild to.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Me the ego, the ego that existed there to be like,
- 25:07Speaker 1: we're done with you. Where in our fan basis, if
- 25:10Speaker 1: somebody was that good would be like, do you want
- 25:12Speaker 1: to come to my house and slap my dad in
- 25:15Speaker 1: the face, Because I'm fine with that. You can do
- 25:18Speaker 1: whatever you want.
- 25:20Speaker 2: If we had an Aaron, If we had an Aaron,
- 25:22Speaker 2: if Aaron Rodgers right now came to the Bears, he
- 25:26Speaker 2: could start his own religion in Chicago. People would worship unbelievable,
- 25:31Speaker 2: Oh my god, they would love him even now now
- 25:35Speaker 2: after all the Packers stuff, they don't care. We want
- 25:38Speaker 2: a quarterback so bad.
- 25:41Speaker 1: A Hall of Fame quarterback towards the end of their
- 25:43Speaker 1: run is a lot like that uncle that you have
- 25:46Speaker 1: that comes with It's Thanksgiving week. So it's a lot
- 25:50Speaker 1: like that uncle you have that comes to Thanksgiving and
- 25:52Speaker 1: you really don't like anything he has to say. But
- 25:57Speaker 1: but you know, you're, like, man, he did build that
- 26:00Speaker 1: whole business, and he's already retired, and I'm just gonna
- 26:04Speaker 1: have to I'm just gonna have to shut up and
- 26:06Speaker 1: respect it.
- 26:06Speaker 2: That far Vikings run was really fun. That was fun.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I know everybody talked about it a lot. But the sweet,
- 26:16Speaker 1: amazing feeling that would have existed had we pulled off
- 26:19Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, Yeah, I don't even know how to
- 26:21Speaker 1: I don't even know how to put it into words,
- 26:23Speaker 1: because you'd have won it with their guy the same
- 26:26Speaker 1: amount with their guy, and that would have been because
- 26:31Speaker 1: what all Packers fans do is they like to lean
- 26:34Speaker 1: on their history, you know, as though they've been touched
- 26:39Speaker 1: by the football heavens uh. And it would have been
- 26:42Speaker 1: really nice to take a piece of their history and
- 26:44Speaker 1: be like us two. And it only in one year
- 26:47Speaker 1: US two. So that was but it was fun all
- 26:50Speaker 1: the way through. It was. It was really really fun too.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And I'm not I'm not generally a big trash talker,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but the amount I ran my mouth at Packer fans
- 27:00Speaker 1: that season is nearly criminal.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I was watching this Sports Center the other day and
- 27:06Speaker 2: like they showed some Jordan Love clip and it like
- 27:10Speaker 2: he threw some you know, across the middle twenty yard
- 27:13Speaker 2: pass and guy caught it, and the announcer goes, land
- 27:16Speaker 2: Love will find a Way, and I was like, oh, man,
- 27:20Speaker 2: I hate the Packers. I hate them.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Also, I love a guy who put something in his
- 27:27Speaker 1: notebook three months ago he finally got to use it.
- 27:30Speaker 1: He's just in front of his mirror.
- 27:32Speaker 2: He's so so happy when they got rid of Rogers,
- 27:35Speaker 2: just so he could say that.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I've been sitting on this level find a Way for
- 27:40Speaker 1: two and a half years. You just find out how
- 27:43Speaker 1: uncreative all these play by play guys are. Well, I uh,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I just don't like playing against a
- 27:51Speaker 1: guy like Justin Fields because he's throughout the entirety of
- 27:55Speaker 1: his existence, He's a guy who one week he'd be like, well,
- 27:58Speaker 1: obviously we're gonna beat that quarterback, and the next week
- 28:01Speaker 1: he just does enough to terrify you, like if you
- 28:05Speaker 1: watched I actually watched three quarters of that Lions Bears
- 28:10Speaker 1: game and then turned it off and thought, oh man,
- 28:13Speaker 1: we just got some serious help wrong. But throughout it
- 28:17Speaker 1: Fields was doing just enough to like break your spirit
- 28:22Speaker 1: if you were the other team fan. And so that's
- 28:25Speaker 1: what worries me is if you let Justin Fields hang
- 28:28Speaker 1: around with his legs and his scrappiness, he can do much,
- 28:32Speaker 1: just enough to break your soul, and the vikings are
- 28:36Speaker 1: I don't know that Justin Jefferson will be back and
- 28:39Speaker 1: they're you know, they're banged up and they're trying to
- 28:41Speaker 1: put it together. You know, I would like us. I'd
- 28:44Speaker 1: like a nice pick six to start, or some sort
- 28:46Speaker 1: of disaster. If you could ship us some early I
- 28:50Speaker 1: think it would make both of us happy. You're trying
- 28:51Speaker 1: to get picks, I'm trying to get a win. If
- 28:54Speaker 1: we could get an early game disaster, that would be
- 28:57Speaker 1: That would lower my blood pressure a little bit.
- 29:00Speaker 2: You guys are pretty banged up on defense, but we
- 29:02Speaker 2: are also a pretty inept football team most of the time,
- 29:06Speaker 2: So I don't know, man, I'm gonna probably drink through
- 29:10Speaker 2: the game like I do most At this point, every
- 29:14Speaker 2: game feels like we're watching tape for scouting, like that's it,
- 29:18Speaker 2: Just like, oh, yeah, who do we want to keep?
- 29:21Speaker 2: Like that's It's the whole reason for football games is
- 29:24Speaker 2: who do we want to keep for next year?
- 29:26Speaker 1: Ten weeks of evaluation?
- 29:28Speaker 2: So hard to watch. But I think Josh Dobbs is
- 29:32Speaker 2: a really fun story.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yes.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I mean sometimes when someone goes to so many teams
- 29:37Speaker 2: in so short a time, you're like, there is a
- 29:38Speaker 2: reason for that, But also, you lost your quarterback, so
- 29:43Speaker 2: what else are you supposed to do?
- 29:45Speaker 1: It's crazy fun and it's I'm really curious.
- 29:50Speaker 2: You know.
- 29:50Speaker 1: People were really high on him, and then a couple
- 29:52Speaker 1: turnovers last night and some people were down on him.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I am just waiting to get to the by, to
- 30:00Speaker 1: get Justin Jefferson back, and then let's really see it.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Because dumb fans like us going like, oh, you're like
- 30:08Speaker 1: this dude, I realize that he's really really bright and
- 30:10Speaker 1: he can learn at a fast rate. There's no way
- 30:14Speaker 1: he understands all the complexities of this offense. There's no
- 30:17Speaker 1: way the playbook is fully opened. Up to take all
- 30:20Speaker 1: the shots they want to take. So I'm looking forward
- 30:22Speaker 1: to seeing who Josh Dobbs really is us starting after
- 30:27Speaker 1: the buye. Right now, I just think it's the most
- 30:30Speaker 1: fun thing in the world, and we'll see where it
- 30:32Speaker 1: goes from there.
- 30:33Speaker 2: So there's a thing last night of or yesterday, Justin
- 30:37Speaker 2: Fields threw a bomb to DJ Moore in the end
- 30:40Speaker 2: zone and it was beautiful throw, great play. The only
- 30:43Speaker 2: reason they can do that is because they've worked together
- 30:46Speaker 2: a ton. He knows exactly how fast djmore runs. They've
- 30:50Speaker 2: timed this route out over and over again. He did
- 30:53Speaker 2: a similar route in that game. We would have won
- 30:54Speaker 2: the game had Tyler Scott caught the ball. But also
- 31:00Speaker 2: the same thing, and Tyler Scott after the game was like,
- 31:02Speaker 2: you know, I didn't run through the whole route. It's
- 31:07Speaker 2: my fault. The ball was in the perfect place. I
- 31:11Speaker 2: hesitated just a second and then I couldn't get there
- 31:13Speaker 2: in time. So they work on this timing, you know,
- 31:17Speaker 2: And to have a quarterback just come in, you can't
- 31:19Speaker 2: just make that stuff up. It takes away the deep ball,
- 31:22Speaker 2: does all these things like the insanely hard job of
- 31:27Speaker 2: a quarterback, which I think is the hardest position in
- 31:30Speaker 2: all of sports. Someone like Josh Obbs or Tyson Pagent.
- 31:35Speaker 2: It just the fact that they don't just sit down
- 31:39Speaker 2: and cry is amazing, you know what I mean, Like
- 31:42Speaker 2: they don't like it's not Christian Ponder, you know what
- 31:46Speaker 2: I mean, Like, you know, it's it's not Rex Grossman.
- 31:50Speaker 2: It's not people that had time in the offseason and
- 31:54Speaker 2: then still still came in and you know, bummed it up.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I just think Josh Josh Dobbs is super super fun
- 32:04Speaker 2: to watch.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I dude, I couldn't agree more. I'm gonna make
- 32:08Speaker 1: you We're gonna close it on this. Everybody hates it,
- 32:10Speaker 1: you're not gonna love it, but I we've got to
- 32:13Speaker 1: do a score prediction. So I'm gonna make you give
- 32:17Speaker 1: a score prediction for the game for this Sunday, and
- 32:20Speaker 1: then we'll let you get out of here. Man.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna say it's gonna be one. That's twelve,
- 32:28Speaker 2: Vikings twenty seven, Bears twenty.
- 32:35Speaker 1: I think I think the defenses are gonna come to play.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Bears thirteen, Vikings one hundred and thirty eight.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with one hundred and thirty. It seems
- 32:45Speaker 1: like a reasonable prediction.
- 32:47Speaker 2: If that makes sense.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I appreciate you doing.
- 32:49Speaker 2: It man, Hey, no problem.
