Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It was a resounding victory. Obviously, still water to go
- 0:03Speaker 1: under the bridge, but most US networks now calling this
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Donald Trump. And it's not just the White House,
- 0:09Speaker 1: it's flipping the Senate. It's likely keeping the House as well,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and the popular vote and almighty comeback the first time
- 0:16Speaker 1: since the eighteen hundreds of presidents made a non consecutive
- 0:19Speaker 1: return to the Oval office. And Matt Terrell is Marco
- 0:22Speaker 1: Rubio's former chief of staff and managing partner at Firehouse Strategies.
- 0:26Speaker 1: He's with US Live this morning. Matt, Welcome to the show.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Hey, good to be with you, Thanks for having me.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Thank you for being here. How are you feeling. Did
- 0:34Speaker 1: you expect it? Did you expect so much from this election?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well, certainly, I, like many people, saw some of the
- 0:43Speaker 2: trend lines go in his direction for brosent Trump's direction,
- 0:46Speaker 2: whether it was the pulling the beatty markets, and furthermore,
- 0:50Speaker 2: you're seeing him pulling better on the key issues that
- 0:54Speaker 2: voters cared about, namely the economy, inflation, and Borio security.
- 0:58Speaker 2: He's pulling better than Vice President here are some of
- 1:00Speaker 2: those issues. This election was about those issues by and large,
- 1:04Speaker 2: and it's the reason why he won this.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Race, what about what is he going to do with
- 1:09Speaker 1: this power? What does the Republican potty do with this power?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well, I think he's been very clear throughout the campaign
- 1:17Speaker 2: what he intends to do, and I think you know,
- 1:21Speaker 2: with control of the Senate and likely control maintaining the
- 1:24Speaker 2: House Representatives, do you have an ability to go in
- 1:26Speaker 2: and have a mandate, a political mandate to go in
- 1:29Speaker 2: and implement the policies he campaigned on, whether that's on
- 1:32Speaker 2: taxes and tax reform, you know, whether that's on other
- 1:35Speaker 2: key policies that relate to the border and border security,
- 1:38Speaker 2: among other policies that he campaigned on. But look, the
- 1:41Speaker 2: reality is it's not just control of Congress that he
- 1:44Speaker 2: will likely get you to have with the House of
- 1:45Speaker 2: Representatives and control of the Senate, but also winning the
- 1:48Speaker 2: popular vote. And you know, it's one thing to win
- 1:50Speaker 2: the electoral college when you win the popular vote, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: likely here have both chambers of Congress. For certain he's
- 1:57Speaker 2: won the Senate, but likely we'll maintain control of the
- 1:59Speaker 2: Here it appears with Republican control there. The bottom line
- 2:03Speaker 2: is that's an ndate and that's going to allow him
- 2:04Speaker 2: to go in and implement the policies that he campaigned on,
- 2:08Speaker 2: and that appears the majority of Americans.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Behind, and the fact that he's managed to shift some
- 2:12Speaker 1: black voters, some Latino voters just shows you that the
- 2:15Speaker 1: pocket book politics rules the RoCE really doesn't. It's the economy.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, this was a big win for for President Trump. Look,
- 2:22Speaker 2: he did better across the board with respect to how
- 2:26Speaker 2: he performed in twenty twenty. You look at young voters,
- 2:29Speaker 2: black voters, Hispanic voters, non college educacated voters. He did
- 2:33Speaker 2: very well, particularly for the Republican nominee for president, among
- 2:36Speaker 2: those key voting blocks. And the reality is that helped
- 2:39Speaker 2: him in the key battleground states that he needed to
- 2:42Speaker 2: win in order to win this race. I think this
- 2:44Speaker 2: is a big win for President Trump certainly, like I said,
- 2:48Speaker 2: he's got a political mandate here to go in and
- 2:50Speaker 2: and inmplent the policies that he campaigned on. But this
- 2:53Speaker 2: was a very big victory and it was frankly big
- 2:57Speaker 2: to see just how well he did in comparison to
- 3:01Speaker 2: how he performed just four years ago, and where Vice
- 3:03Speaker 2: President Here's underperformed with respect made these key voting blocks
- 3:07Speaker 2: and in comparison with President Biden performed in twenty.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Twenty, speaking all what happens to who Now?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, look they have between now and you know, January
- 3:19Speaker 2: to go in and continue to policies. You know, they'll
- 3:22Speaker 2: be government here until President Trump is sworn in in January.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But look, the bottom line here is the big thing
- 3:29Speaker 2: here is control of Congress as well, like I said,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and as you see that come into play here, you
- 3:33Speaker 2: know you're gonna have certainly a link duck session here
- 3:35Speaker 2: with the current Congress and emotion and in place. But
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know, the reality is January will be the key month.
- 3:40Speaker 2: That's when you have a new Congress sworn in. Like
- 3:42Speaker 2: I said, control of the Senate is with Republicans. The
- 3:45Speaker 2: Republicans are now controlled the White House. The real questions
- 3:47Speaker 2: about the House representative, but that appears to be going
- 3:50Speaker 2: in the Republican's direction right now, and then from there,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I suspect what you'll see this is just my sense
- 3:55Speaker 2: is that President Trump recognizes that he has kind of
- 3:57Speaker 2: a second chance here. You know, you will second chances
- 4:00Speaker 2: in life, of course, but this is a big second
- 4:03Speaker 2: chance to be president once again. And with that, I
- 4:05Speaker 2: suspect he's not going to waste any time. And then furthermore,
- 4:08Speaker 2: the transition. You know, the presidential transition is already underway.
- 4:11Speaker 2: There are gonna be cabinet positions that he's gonna get
- 4:13Speaker 2: have to get confirmed, putting in key staff members. That's
- 4:16Speaker 2: a big transition, but that's already underway for the Trump
- 4:18Speaker 2: Vans team.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Matt can gradulations for your party, and thank you very
- 4:23Speaker 1: much for your analysis this morning. I appreciate it. That's
