- 0:33what it means to live in harmony with your soul's
- 0:36truth through real conversations, intuitive guidance,
- 0:40and powerful moments of reflection. And so today
- 0:44we are here to talk about the understanding the
- 0:48quiet internal shifts after survival. So there's
- 0:56a season that doesn't get talked about enough.
- 1:00It's the season where nothing is falling apart,
- 1:05nothing dramatic is happening, there's no crisis
- 1:08to solve, and yet something inside of you feels
- 1:13very different. You look around and you think,
- 1:17everything's fine, so why do I feel so unsettled?
- 1:21If that's where you are right now, are something
- 1:24that you have been recently experienced and even
- 1:27if you found yourself in a whirlwind of change
- 1:30this episode is definitely for you. Today we
- 1:35are going to talk about what happens after survival
- 1:38mode. The quiet internal shift that comes when
- 1:43the urgency fades but the identity you built
- 1:47during that urgency still hasn't quite caught
- 1:50up with you. Survival mode is sneaky. Sorry.
- 1:59Sometimes it looks like chaos. Sometimes it looks
- 2:03like high performance. Sometimes it looks like
- 2:07being the strong one. The capable one. The one
- 2:10who handles everything. You know, when you're
- 2:15in survival mode, that's what you do. You do
- 2:17all of those things, right? You deal with the
- 2:20chaos, the high performance, being the strong
- 2:22one, the cable one, the one that makes everything
- 2:24happen. And in survival mode, you move because
- 2:29you have to. Your nervous system is activated.
- 2:35Your focus is sharp. You are solving, you are
- 2:38fixing, managing, holding. And often, You don't
- 2:44even realize it until you're in the middle of
- 2:47it you know or until you're done with it like
- 2:52like the Survival mode is done and over with
- 2:55and that is when you realize how Tight and wound
- 2:59up you've been right and because survival mode
- 3:02can last for months years Sometimes decades and
- 3:07then one day it softens Here's the part no one
- 3:15is prepared for, is when that crisis ends. When
- 3:20the financial stress stabilizes, when the relationship
- 3:24tension shifts, when the job transition settles,
- 3:30your body doesn't immediately relax. It doesn't
- 3:34trust calm right away because calm feels very
- 3:39unfamiliar. You've been running on purpose,
- 3:43on responsibility on urgency and now now there's
- 3:52a space and space can feel disorienting you might
- 3:57notice your motivation dips the feel of emotional
- 4:05for no clear reason right you may question yourself
- 4:10even more You may question your decisions or
- 4:12you may even question your emotions or how you're
- 4:14feeling about something. You may feel restless
- 4:17even when nothing is wrong. And your mind might
- 4:24say, why am I like this? I should be better by
- 4:28now. The stress is over. We got that maintained.
- 4:35You know, that is done and over with.
- 4:40What you're going through isn't regression, it's
- 4:43an integration. Integration is what happens when
- 4:47your body finally feels safe enough to stop performing
- 4:52strength. It's the exhale you've postponed for
- 4:57years. It's the tears that didn't have time to
- 5:01fall. And it's the nervous system asking, can
- 5:06we rest now? sometimes rest feels terrifying
- 5:14when you're when you've known it all along when
- 5:17the only thing that you can remember for the
- 5:21past months and decades and years is is motion
- 5:25stress overwhelminess and overdoing that rest
- 5:33can feel very terrifying so Integration is what
- 5:40happens when your body and your nervous system
- 5:43finally has a space to process what your mind
- 5:47pushed through. When you were surviving, you
- 5:53didn't have the luxury of feeling everything.
- 5:56You had to move, you had to make decisions, you
- 6:00had to handle it, you had to stay upright, keeping
- 6:04things going and keeping you in motion. And now
- 6:07that that urgency is softened, like that urgency
- 6:11is no longer there, your body is saying, okay,
- 6:15now can we process? And processing doesn't always
- 6:22look productive. It can look like sudden waves
- 6:29of emotion, fatigue that you can't explain. questioning
- 6:35decisions that you've already made and craving
- 6:40stillness but also feeling uncomfortable in it
- 6:45many of us have had moments where we had stillness
- 6:51or downtime and felt out of sorts in strange
- 6:56territory and unable to appreciate the moments
- 6:59of stillness to relax to truly allow the body
- 7:05to release the tension that it's been holding
- 7:07onto. Integration in your system reorganizes
- 7:12itself through safety instead of pressure. Imagine
- 7:18that. Is your identity loosening the grip of
- 7:24who you had to be so you can discover who you
- 7:30are without bracing? And that can feel messy
- 7:36and unstable. Because the old drive, the one
- 7:41that fueled by adrenaline, are proving, is starting
- 7:46to dissolve. And the new drive, the one rooted
- 7:50in alignment and calm, hasn't fully formed yet.
- 7:56So you sit in this strange in -between space,
- 8:00less reactive, less urgent, but not fully clear
- 8:05and that space that space is sacred it's where
- 8:11the nervous system learns to pace and that peace
- 8:16is not a threat it's where your energy has the
- 8:23time to recalibrate and it's where your next
- 8:29vision of yourself begins to take shape quietly
- 8:33without forcing it. And it's okay to take time
- 8:38here to breathe in with that calm. So here's
- 8:46what's really happening. The version of you that
- 8:49knew how to survive is gently stepping back and
- 8:54that identity can be hard to release. Maybe you
- 8:58were the fixer, the provider, the strong one,
- 9:02the overachiever, the one who never falls apart.
- 9:11Who are you when you are not needed in the same
- 9:14way? Who are you when you are not proving your
- 9:24resiliency? And who are you when strength isn't
- 9:32required, only presence? These questions can
- 9:40feel very destabilizing. And it's also where
- 9:45freedom lives. That version of you that was so
- 9:51powerful, but she was built for a specific season,
- 9:57right and now something softer is emerging something
- 10:03that doesn't operate from urgency something that
- 10:08doesn't need to be proven something that doesn't
- 10:12thrive on pressure and that can feel like losing
- 10:16yourself but it isn't it's a becoming becoming
- 10:22who you are meant to be calm collective, mindful
- 10:30and relaxed in life. You were never created to
- 10:36be in survival mode and on high alert. So I completely
- 10:43understand being in that survival mode. I lived
- 10:47it for decades and way, way too long. I am actually
- 10:53still in the process of regulating to this new
- 10:57version of who I am. And even though this process
- 11:02can be emotional at times, and believe me, it
- 11:05is, I am enjoying the new version of me that
- 11:09is arising. And I am enjoying observing this
- 11:13process. So some of you may know. I worked for
- 11:20the federal government for 22 years until I was
- 11:23laid off last April. And when I left my 22 -year
- 11:28career, I was actually relieved. I felt the best
- 11:33I had felt in a long time. I walked out of there
- 11:37in an amazing mood. I was happy. I was... Felt
- 11:43uplifted. I had co -workers calling me crying
- 11:47and I was like on top of the world and they just
- 11:49couldn't talk to me Because I wasn't in that
- 11:52sad I Wasn't in that space Right. I actually
- 12:00felt relieved I know that That layoff was the
- 12:07was a blessing and something in my soul had been
- 12:12yearning for. But the aftermath of that, the
- 12:17allowing myself to pause, to slow down, and the
- 12:21recalibration, that part has been the challenge.
- 12:27I was used to being on all the time. I was a
- 12:30leader, I was a supervisor, I was a decision
- 12:33-maker in my career. I oversaw staff, contracts,
- 12:38grants, organizational budgets. It was a tremendous
- 12:42amount of responsibility and it was an atmosphere
- 12:47in which I thrived in. I was a go -getter and
- 12:51I loved being in the know and the go -to person
- 12:54that everyone could depend on. I loved that and
- 12:58I thrived in that space. I was trained to think
- 13:04quickly, to respond immediately, to anticipate
- 13:08problems before they even surfaced. My body was
- 13:12conditioned to stay alert. And then... And then
- 13:18it was all gone. No staff meetings. No crisis
- 13:24emails. No decisions waiting for me to take care
- 13:28of. And my nervous system did not know what to
- 13:33do with that. And still... And still doesn't
- 13:39sometimes. You know and there is no time frame
- 13:44of how quickly we should regulate from being
- 13:47in that survival mode Being in that state of
- 13:51relaxation and being There's no timeline There
- 13:57are moments when I catch myself expecting to
- 14:01be on you know scanning for the urgencies waiting
- 14:05for something to require me to be in that on
- 14:09mood the same way but there is no on not anymore
- 14:16now you may be saying summer come on look look
- 14:24at everything you're doing you have a business
- 14:27you have a podcast you do blogs you do classes
- 14:29you're constantly creating and you're absolutely
- 14:34right but there's a difference. Before I was
- 14:41operating on responsibility, on the having to,
- 14:45the requirement to, the expectation of, but now
- 14:49I operate from resonance. I operate from what
- 14:55feels right. Before I was operating on responsibility,
- 15:00pure responsibility, before my energy was outward
- 15:04and driven, Now it's aligned and flowing. I don't
- 15:10feel overwhelmed. I don't feel pressured. This
- 15:13all feels very easy and very welcoming. What
- 15:23I'm building now often feels different in my
- 15:29body. It doesn't feel like bracing. It doesn't
- 15:33feel like proving. Doesn't feel like I'm carrying
- 15:37any weight Today what I'm doing feels like expression
- 15:45Very fulfillment and stepping out and doing things
- 15:52new It feels like I'm moving because I want to
- 15:59not because I have to and that shift from pressure
- 16:03to purpose Takes recalibration and it takes time
- 16:08So when my system flares up and believe me it
- 16:11does when anxiety shows up without a reason I
- 16:15don't shame it I pause I Breathe through it deep
- 16:23breaths deep belly breaths slow integrated breathing
- 16:28And I remind myself I am safe in this new space.
- 16:38I connect with that anxiety, that overwhelming
- 16:41feeling, and I ask, where is it coming from?
- 16:45And I listen. Realizing that this is not collapse,
- 16:52but understanding that this is expansion without
- 16:56force. And I am still learning how to live in
- 17:01this space. You know and I don't strive for perfection
- 17:06accolades or awards I strive for fulfillment
- 17:11and doing what I am called to do and Doing what
- 17:15feels right for my soul You know and I give you
- 17:25permission to do the exact same thing So, you
- 17:33know, there can also be grief in this space.
- 17:38Grief from the adrenaline, grief from the version
- 17:41of you who held everything together, grief from
- 17:45the identity that gave you structure. And even
- 17:51if you don't want that life back, even if you're
- 17:55very grateful that it's over and you can't even
- 17:58imagine going back, There's still a letting go
- 18:02that has to take place and that letting go can
- 18:05feel like Floating in between those two worlds
- 18:10You know not who you were Not who you're fully
- 18:15becoming you're just kind of in the middle and
- 18:18that middle space again is very sacred Even if
- 18:24it feels uncomfortable it's very sacred and it's
- 18:27where you're adjusting and learning in becoming
- 18:31the new version of you. And allowing that grief
- 18:36to flow is so important. Don't ignore it. Don't
- 18:42shame it. Be with it and allow it. When we live
- 18:48in survival mode long enough, our nervous system
- 18:52begins to equate safety with alertness. Your
- 18:57system learned that being kept alert kept you
- 19:00safe Being needed kept you valued Being productive
- 19:07kept you secure So when things get quiet Your
- 19:13body can begin to whisper are we missing something?
- 19:18Is something about to go wrong? Like we're waiting
- 19:21for that next shoe to drop So when things come
- 19:27down and the body can interpret that as Unfamiliarity
- 19:32and that unfamiliar can feel very unsafe This
- 19:39is why you might create problems in your mind
- 19:42you might feel anxious when things are quiet
- 19:45you might Want to look for something to fix?
- 19:49Your body is recalibrating. This is not work.
- 19:53This is not weakness. This is not failure. This
- 19:56is rewriting and This phase requires gentleness
- 20:00So please give yourself grace as you're moving
- 20:05through this change So instead of forcing clarity
- 20:13instead of demanding motivation instead of trying
- 20:18to Figure out what's next. What if you allowed
- 20:23this to be a transition, a re-patterning, a resting?
- 20:30What if nothing's wrong? Imagine that. What if
- 20:35your system is simply learning how to exist without
- 20:39bracing? Oh, that feels like a breath of fresh
- 20:43air. There is strength in the softness. there
- 20:49is power in not pushing and there is wisdom in
- 20:54letting your next self arrive slowly no need
- 21:00to rush be in that flow of allowance and acceptance
- 21:07and get comfortable with the stillness and with
- 21:12the quiet This is often the space where people
- 21:20come to me not because something's broken But
- 21:24because something is shifting the urgency is
- 21:27gone But the identity hasn't quite caught up
- 21:31and an energy work and sound baths and nervous
- 21:34system support through counseling and through
- 21:38Reiki and through you know my spiritual Life
- 21:43coaching What we're really doing is helping the
- 21:48body feel safe enough to soften We're not fixing
- 21:52or stabilizing we're allowing that integration
- 21:57and Sometimes that's the most important work
- 22:00here So I say find you someone that you can work
- 22:04with someone that you trust someone that resonates
- 22:07with you And allow your body your nervous system
- 22:15to go through this transition of healing and
- 22:20stabilizing so if you're listening right now
- 22:30notice your shoulders notice your jaw notice
- 22:38if you're subtly bracing are you holding tension
- 22:44in these areas? now take a slow deep breath in
- 22:53long exhale out let your body practice being
- 23:08safe for 10 seconds that's it 10 seconds and
- 23:23if you're in a season where nothing is falling
- 23:25apart but you feel different uncertain quieter
- 23:31more emotional or even less driven than before
- 23:35it's okay allow yourself to pause place one hand
- 23:44on your heart two if you need to and remind yourself
- 23:51this is not a breakdown this is recalibration
- 24:02you survived and now you're learning to live
- 24:11without bracing and that may be the bravest work
- 24:16you've ever done. It takes time and it is perfectly
- 24:23okay and you are allowed. So if this episode
- 24:35resonated with you I invite you to sit with it
- 24:38gently this week and if you need support during
- 24:42your integration season You can find my sessions
- 24:46and offering on my website just-be-true .com.
- 24:56I encourage you to find someone to work with,
- 24:59someone that you feel safe with, someone that
- 25:02you're comfortable with. It doesn't have to be
- 25:04me, but it needs to be someone. Even if it's
- 25:07a friend just to help you work through it. It's
- 25:10perfectly fine. so we're still in season one
- 25:15next episode is episode three grief when love
