- 0:01I'm so sick of the, what we're doing here in, I mean, I, I'm enjoying speaking.
- 0:06Wow.
- 0:06But I don't want to hear He literally dismisses the podcast as he speaks on one.
- 0:11So we've entered the, yeah.
- 0:13Uh, somebody that would like this shit.
- 0:15This is episode 41 of onefjef 41 is the number just past the
- 0:22ordeal across mystical traditions.
- 0:2440 is the sacred threshold, the flood, the desert, the fast,
- 0:28which makes 41 the first breath.
- 0:29On the other side, the I Ching's 41st Hexagram sun captures this perfectly
- 0:35voluntary sacrifice, giving something up as an act of trust rather than loss.
- 0:40In Pythagorean terms, the four and the one are intention structure versus
- 0:44the solitary will the person who has built something solid but hasn't yet
- 0:49made peace with being alone inside it.
- 0:52Hello my friends.
- 0:53Hello, once again.
- 0:55How about this?
- 0:56We're back on our regular schedule.
- 0:57Huh?
- 0:58Huh?
- 0:58Anybody?
- 1:01I'm proud of myself.
- 1:02I hope that you're proud of me too.
- 1:04I said once I am in Mexico City and settle down a bit, we will get back to
- 1:10a regular schedule for this podcast.
- 1:11And here we are.
- 1:13So go me, go me and is also promised I am releasing an interview
- 1:21this week and that interview.
- 1:23Is with Jack Hopkins.
- 1:24Jack Hopkins, also known as Jack Hoppy, is a filmmaker, writer,
- 1:28musician, and visual artist.
- 1:30He co-wrote and acted in the short film according to plan and
- 1:33releases self-produced music, including squalor and couch surfing.
- 1:37His visual art and broader work reflected DIY self-direct approach focused on
- 1:42experimentation and personal expression.
- 1:44I recorded this conversation almost a year ago before I even
- 1:48started making this podcast.
- 1:50I used a few clips of it in the first episode, but I didn't release the entire
- 1:54thing because as you'll hear, Jack and I got progressively more intoxicated as
- 2:00the interview progressed and we ended up recording for almost three hours,
- 2:05much of which was fairly incoherent.
- 2:08But I live in Mexico City now, and last week I went back and
- 2:12listened to what we'd recorded.
- 2:14And I discovered that it was actually more entertaining and less incoherent
- 2:18than I remembered, and I cut it down to an hour, which helped.
- 2:22I do need to include a disclaimer though.
- 2:25If this episode had a rating, it would be a solid R.
- 2:29There's quite a bit of swearing and talk about drugs and
- 2:33sex and so forth and so on.
- 2:35So probably don't listen with your kids or with yourself if you don't like
- 2:40listening to abject subject matter.
- 2:43Mom, you've been warned.
- 2:46I met Jack Hopkins a few years ago outside the Summit Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio.
- 2:52The film group that we were both in was having a gathering, but there was a band
- 2:56playing so nobody could talk inside.
- 2:58So people just started going outside.
- 3:00I was just standing outside and they having a drink and, uh, this young
- 3:05interesting looking dude walks out of the bar and we just start talking.
- 3:09And yeah, there was just like a, an immediate connection with me and Jack.
- 3:14It's like we knew each other before.
- 3:16It's like we were just picking up a conversation.
- 3:19We'd started long ago and we've been friends ever since.
- 3:24Jack's about half my age.
- 3:26He's about 26 right now.
- 3:27I think.
- 3:28And he invited me to a party at his house, I don't know, six, seven months ago.
- 3:34And, uh, a lot of people at the party thought that I was Jack's dad,
- 3:37which I wasn't necessarily offended by, but I was also offended by
- 3:43anyway, now that I am in Mexico, I miss my friend Jack.
- 3:48I hope he comes to visit.
- 3:50And I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation with him as much
- 3:54as we clearly enjoyed having it.
- 3:58Thank you for listening.
- 4:01Thank you for being here.
- 4:03Here's Jack Hopkins criticizing the sturdiness of the table I had in my
- 4:08podcasting studio in Columbus, Ohio.
- 4:14Dude, this table is fucking wobbly.
- 4:17It's not that bad.
- 4:19Okay, well we've got a guest and we're already complaining about the table.
- 4:22Interesting.
- 4:23Sorry.
- 4:24Yeah, it's a beautiful table.
- 4:26So here we are, um, Jack, Jack Hopkins.
- 4:29They call me Hoppy.
- 4:29Actually Hoppy You don't call me Hoppy, but my friends call me Hoppy.
- 4:32No, I refuse to call you.
- 4:33Hoppy.
- 4:33You, you don't have to.
- 4:34Sorry.
- 4:34Yeah.
- 4:35Um, how long have people been calling you?
- 4:37Hoppy?
- 4:38That's like four years.
- 4:39No, I didn't grow up with it.
- 4:40Um, Jack Hoppy.
- 4:42I don't know.
- 4:43Does your girlfriend call you Hoppy?
- 4:44No, she doesn't.
- 4:45That's good.
- 4:45She did originally.
- 4:46And I actually had to say, please don't that you can't, you can't have that.
- 4:49I don't like that.
- 4:50Yeah, no, it's not sexy.
- 4:53And then when she refers to me to other people, she's like,
- 4:56yeah, Hoppy's over there.
- 4:56I'm like, what are you, what are you doing, man?
- 4:58I don't like, you got any nicknames?
- 5:00Yeah.
- 5:00No, it's me.
- 5:01Uh, Tweety?
- 5:02No.
- 5:03A big dick master.
- 5:04Huge dick.
- 5:05Big giant dick on the street.
- 5:07I've heard that.
- 5:07Yeah.
- 5:08They're like, where's Big Dick at?
- 5:09I'm like, oh, Jef.
- 5:10He's over there.
- 5:11Yeah.
- 5:11Yeah.
- 5:12Uh, no.
- 5:13No real nicknames to speak of.
- 5:15No, I remember having girlfriends back in the day and like one girlfriend,
- 5:18Laura, she wanted to like come up with nicknames for each other, and
- 5:22the one she came up for me was Bunny.
- 5:24And I was like, no, absolutely not.
- 5:26Similar to Hoppy.
- 5:27Yeah, no, bunny is a little too cute.
- 5:28Yeah, yeah.
- 5:29No kidding.
- 5:29So we never came up with nicknames and then she cheated on me.
- 5:32Hey.
- 5:33Oh God.
- 5:34So that's a, yeah.
- 5:34Maybe if we came up with cheat, maybe we came up with nicknames, then maybe
- 5:37she wouldn't have cheated on me.
- 5:37If it was a good nickname, it would've been a green flag.
- 5:40Yeah.
- 5:41Although I don't know that they're being like Spike.
- 5:43Spike.
- 5:43I don't think I'm gonna be spike either.
- 5:45Or danger.
- 5:45Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:47Something like that.
- 5:47So like growing up, what was, what was your, what was your life like?
- 5:50Tell me, like high school, what was your, yeah, yeah.
- 5:52Okay.
- 5:52So I mean like, I liked sports.
- 5:54I've always liked sports, but the second that a grown man started to get mad at me.
- 6:017-year-old for not doing it right.
- 6:03I immediately was like, no, I don't wanna do this anymore.
- 6:07Old people ruined sports.
- 6:08I mean, why did they care that much?
- 6:09Just let them play, just let them living vicariously through a 7-year-old.
- 6:12And at the time I thought it was weird and now I'm looking back on it and I
- 6:15still, I'm like, yeah, I was right.
- 6:17I was fucking right.
- 6:18It, it's worse now than it was then.
- 6:19Probably.
- 6:19It was weird.
- 6:20What sport was this?
- 6:21I tried 'em all.
- 6:22I tried 'em all.
- 6:23I liked baseball the most.
- 6:24Um, 'cause I have hand-eye coordination.
- 6:26I'm not athletic.
- 6:27I like to separate the two.
- 6:29I don't wanna run for longer than, you know, a couple minutes of
- 6:32time unless you're being chased.
- 6:32Right?
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:33I don't want to do that either, right?
- 6:35No, but I just, you know, I wasn't athletic and everybody else was athletic.
- 6:38It's Dublin, Ohio.
- 6:40It is a fucking green suburb.
- 6:43When I talk about it like this, I feel like a, yeah, the, the angsty, you know,
- 6:47like, I gotta get out of this town, man.
- 6:49They don't believe in me.
- 6:50You got outta that is how I, you got outta Dublin.
- 6:52That's how I felt though.
- 6:53And I remember my big brother was, um.
- 6:55You know, he was athletic effortlessly and he wouldn't study and he
- 7:00would get fucked up all the time.
- 7:02Mm-hmm.
- 7:03And just get straight A's 36 on the a CT, whatever, doesn't care.
- 7:07I'll study and I'll study and I'll study and I'll still get a c
- 7:11plus, you know, even if I studied all night, it doesn't matter.
- 7:14No retention, I don't matter.
- 7:15Yeah.
- 7:1580 a DDI don't know.
- 7:17And I would double guess myself, so I didn't, you know, grades would fail.
- 7:21I wasn't very good at sports.
- 7:23Um, I was tiny.
- 7:25I was tiny in a huge school.
- 7:27I was still like the third smallest kid in the class for a while there.
- 7:32I'm still small, but now I can blend in with a crowd a little more.
- 7:36I don't stand out or anything like that.
- 7:37Were you good at sports?
- 7:38No.
- 7:39Oh no.
- 7:40I wasn't like, I liked them, but I just, I got nervous.
- 7:43I got really fucking nervous, you know?
- 7:45Hmm.
- 7:46But then I grew to a certain age where I was like, I don't have
- 7:48grades, I don't have sports.
- 7:50I'm tiny.
- 7:51I'm angsty.
- 7:52What do I do?
- 7:54How do, how do you get respect fast?
- 7:55I was like, well, I'm just gonna openly do drugs, you know?
- 7:58I'm gonna be like the stoner kid.
- 8:01Gotta find your identity.
- 8:02Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:04And I watched Dazed to Confuse when I was a freshman the summer before going
- 8:10into freshman year, and I was like.
- 8:14When I, when I meet stoners at my school, I'm kind of like, I want them to like me.
- 8:20I'm like, okay, let's just do that.
- 8:22Let's just put it all on the table.
- 8:24Like Slater from Yeah, but a little, they, they were more menacing.
- 8:28I was more Slater esque, the stoners at my school, you
- 8:30know, there's kinda like tough.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:33Like they wanted to fight each other at like, it's interesting that
- 8:35you mentioned Dazed and Confused.
- 8:37'cause I feel like when I was in high school and junior high, I feel like I
- 8:39got a lot of my ideas about my identity from movies as opposed to like from a,
- 8:45uh, parental figure or an older adult.
- 8:48And I still think that that actually affects the way that I see the world
- 8:51in a way is like watching too many movies when I was a kid and you're
- 8:54preaching to the choir, right?
- 8:55I mean, whatever I thought was like a cool guy.
- 8:58I would try to be, okay, these guys in these movies get laid.
- 9:01I'm gonna try to act like that.
- 9:02Right.
- 9:02Just if that's real life.
- 9:03Right.
- 9:03And yeah, no, it never worked.
- 9:05Right?
- 9:05Then you get older and you realize, what is that?
- 9:07Are those movies not true That's going on?
- 9:09Right?
- 9:10Right.
- 9:10And you realize that it's all bullshit and you're like, yeah.
- 9:12Um, yeah, and I was really pissed about that.
- 9:16I was insecure as fuck, man.
- 9:18Oh, me too.
- 9:19Acne is acne everywhere.
- 9:21Yeah, me too.
- 9:21Uh, braces.
- 9:22I actually had braces from freshman year till senior year.
- 9:25Me too.
- 9:26Not that period of time, but yeah.
- 9:28Three years, two years.
- 9:29Yeah.
- 9:29I remember they wanted to keep it ongoing into college and
- 9:32I fucking orthodontist, man.
- 9:35They wanna ring you dry.
- 9:36It was the fucking worst student.
- 9:37Uh, and once I caught on.
- 9:39And they were like, yeah, you're still off by a couple millimeters.
- 9:42Um, we recommend keeping it on.
- 9:43And I was 18 at the time.
- 9:44I was like, take 'em off.
- 9:45Well, that's the game, right?
- 9:46I'm like, I know you can, I know that I can say this now.
- 9:48You, you gotta take 'em off my face now.
- 9:50And they like looked at my mom and my mom was just shrugged.
- 9:52She's like, yeah, you heard the band.
- 9:54I was such a nerd in middle school that like the nerdy kid.
- 9:59This kid Owen Priest never forget.
- 10:01He slammed my head into a locker.
- 10:04Wow.
- 10:04Like the nerdiest kid be above me, fucking hurt me.
- 10:08Well, nerdier became weird because he was both, he was like the other outcast.
- 10:12He was like, as a weird kid, will slam anyone, was like two outcasts, you know?
- 10:16But a nerd vying for power or something Fucking awful.
- 10:20Only one of us.
- 10:21Yeah.
- 10:21One weird middle school was the worst.
- 10:23That's when kids learn how to be assholes.
- 10:25Yeah.
- 10:25I I was bulleted in middle school.
- 10:27That was the toughest one.
- 10:28Yeah.
- 10:28It was awful.
- 10:28High school was fine.
- 10:29High school got better for sure.
- 10:30I, I had fun in high school, to be completely honest with you.
- 10:32Yeah.
- 10:32But middle school, yeah.
- 10:33No, I had a lot of trouble.
- 10:34What did you do in high school?
- 10:36Sports still, or No?
- 10:37No, no.
- 10:37That was when I went full stoner mode.
- 10:39Uh, freshman year was funny.
- 10:41Um, this transitionary period where I, it didn't, I didn't
- 10:46know and I didn't really care.
- 10:47What was it?
- 10:48It was Young Life, which is Oh, I know what that is.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:50It's a youth group going on and, um, really prevalent at my school specifically
- 10:57with the seniors, with that class.
- 10:59Um, and you know, these seniors come to the freshmen and they're like,
- 11:03Hey, you wanna hang out after school?
- 11:06Like on a weekend night?
- 11:07Love, love, love bomb, love bomb.
- 11:08You can, you know, ride in my car.
- 11:11I was like, this is like days confused, which, right.
- 11:15The exact opposite.
- 11:16So, you know, we go to this basement, which sounds weird, but there were
- 11:19like, you know, 50 people in the basement, but they're Christians.
- 11:22We were just dancing around.
- 11:23It was a lot of fun.
- 11:23Yeah.
- 11:24You know, no drinking.
- 11:25Um, I, I was, I don't know, I was naive.
- 11:28I was like, didn't, didn't catch on to maybe that they were tell Right.
- 11:31I kind of knew.
- 11:33That they were, I knew that it was Christian based, but then you're
- 11:36dancing and dancing and dancing.
- 11:37At the end of the end they're like, all right now.
- 11:39Now we pray.
- 11:40Right.
- 11:40Okay.
- 11:41Okay.
- 11:41Gotta go.
- 11:42But they did get me and I felt kind of cool for hanging out.
- 11:44That's how they get you.
- 11:45They love bomb you.
- 11:46Yeah.
- 11:46Yeah.
- 11:47Oh man.
- 11:48It was weird.
- 11:48They would take, I actually went to, um, young Life Camp.
- 11:52Mm-hmm.
- 11:53You know, it's like three days in the woods in Saranac, New York.
- 11:56Your parents probably liked it.
- 11:58They're not Christian.
- 11:59They were just kind of like, okay, sure.
- 12:00You're hanging out with good, good, wholesome people.
- 12:02Good wholesome.
- 12:03Ah.
- 12:03They always trusted me.
- 12:04I think they were just kind of confused.
- 12:05They're like, okay, sure.
- 12:06Yeah.
- 12:06If you're finding God that's not sure, go for it.
- 12:08Sure.
- 12:09Um, no, I just wanted to go 'cause everyone I knew was all
- 12:11the freshmen got kind of roped in.
- 12:13Mm. Um, and my girlfriend at the time.
- 12:16Was going and everything.
- 12:17And I was like, all right.
- 12:18Fuck it.
- 12:18I was an atheist at the time.
- 12:20Mm-hmm.
- 12:21Um, my friends knew, my girlfriend knew, and it's, I'm agnostic now.
- 12:25I don't really give a fuck.
- 12:26Sure.
- 12:26But at the time I was, you know, pseudo intellectual.
- 12:28I was like, there's no God like I knew.
- 12:30And, um, but I would ke I would keep it se a secret from the
- 12:34actual young life, like seniors.
- 12:36Sure.
- 12:36'cause they're not gonna let you in if you don't.
- 12:37Yeah.
- 12:38At least pretend.
- 12:39Well, they did find out when I was there.
- 12:41And they made it a, how did they find out?
- 12:43Oh, people told them.
- 12:45I don't know where it's at.
- 12:46Oh, you spoke a lot about how you didn't believe in God.
- 12:48To my friends.
- 12:49And my friends, I'm sure told 'em this whole God thing's
- 12:51bullshit, by the way, you guys.
- 12:53That's right.
- 12:53And they, they had these weird games, competition, secret competitions.
- 12:58Right.
- 12:58I could see that.
- 12:59To see who can convert the stoner kid.
- 13:01Oh my God.
- 13:02And they would take me deep in the woods one at a time.
- 13:04And to, to Eno.
- 13:06You know, hammock.
- 13:07And they would give their, this is my personal Bible, I wanna give it to you.
- 13:11Sure.
- 13:11Like if they could come outta that woods with that win.
- 13:15They would get so many brownie points with, with, with good old jc,
- 13:19um, if only they just had a naked woman that you could fuck out there.
- 13:23They'd be like, that's how you get 'em in.
- 13:24Yeah.
- 13:24Right, right.
- 13:25But that's premarital.
- 13:26Right.
- 13:26But you just don't have to talk about it.
- 13:27You're right.
- 13:28Yeah.
- 13:28Well, if it, yeah, it would be the priest diddling me, actually.
- 13:32You know, that's how that, you know what Mormons do?
- 13:34Mormons can't have sex when they get married, so they'll
- 13:36do a thing, I forget the name.
- 13:38Soaking.
- 13:38Soaking, yeah.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39That's fucking crazy.
- 13:40Where they just put their dick near the vagina, have somebody No, they put it in.
- 13:44Yeah.
- 13:44I couldn't figure it out where they actually put it in.
- 13:46'cause it said there's not penetration.
- 13:48Oh.
- 13:48Like when I looked it up online, it said there wasn't penetration.
- 13:51So it seemed like maybe there's rubbing, I don't know.
- 13:53It could be either way.
- 13:54But then you have a friend involved under the bed.
- 13:56Maybe it's the, the thrust that maybe it's just the tip is the, if you thrust,
- 14:01then it's considered penetration, maybe.
- 14:02Yeah.
- 14:03I mean, what a weird religion that is.
- 14:04But, um, just the tip.
- 14:06Yeah.
- 14:06'cause the, the Mormon God is so dumb that it can't tell the difference
- 14:10between soaking and actual sex Mormonism.
- 14:13Mr. Fuck.
- 14:13That is disrespectful to the Mormon, God.
- 14:16The Mormon underwear.
- 14:16You're good.
- 14:17What's his name?
- 14:18John Smith.
- 14:19And they're from Lake Ohio too.
- 14:20They came, they, they were up in Ohio until they, they, when
- 14:23they were, it was under the big thing was near northern Ohio.
- 14:26Northwestern Ohio.
- 14:27Northeastern Ohio.
- 14:28Mm-hmm.
- 14:29I forget the city.
- 14:29But they were living there.
- 14:31Then they got kicked out there and they kept moving and then they finally
- 14:33got to Utah and they were like, all right, where we're gonna settle?
- 14:36Well, they're gonna let us have all our wives here and shit.
- 14:38Yeah.
- 14:38Our 20 wives, I mean, the wives thing probably worked out for the fellas.
- 14:43Definitely For the women, not so much.
- 14:44They think it worked out for them though.
- 14:46They're, you know.
- 14:47Yeah, I know.
- 14:48Got, they get brainwashed like hard, like all the fucking way.
- 14:52So, uh, stoner crowd in How old were you when you got laid for the first time?
- 14:56I was 21.
- 14:57Wow.
- 14:57Yeah.
- 14:58Yeah.
- 14:59I had plenty of opportunities.
- 15:00Um, I'm sure you did.
- 15:01I was just fucker.
- 15:04Yeah, that's, look at this face.
- 15:05Come on.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:05I could, I could have fucked as many tricks as I wanted.
- 15:07No, no.
- 15:08I was in bed and I would be naked and I was, I would just
- 15:10lie because I was just so scared.
- 15:12Oh, it's terrified.
- 15:13Or I'd had my underwear on and they'd be, be like, what?
- 15:16I would just come up with something every time.
- 15:17Wow.
- 15:18The first, like, this happened like five times, you know, or like, yeah.
- 15:23You know, um, you know, I'd be like, oh, my, my best friend
- 15:27is actually in love with you.
- 15:27I can't go through the, with this.
- 15:29Or, oh, I. I'm, so, I remember in high school I actually said, I'm
- 15:35just too, I'm just so tortured.
- 15:37I'm too tortured.
- 15:39Wow.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:40And she, it didn't make any sense to me or her.
- 15:42She was like, right.
- 15:43Okay.
- 15:43But it worked.
- 15:44You didn't get laid
- 15:47score right?
- 15:48I did it.
- 15:49Yeah.
- 15:50That's the movie you should write.
- 15:51That's the movie you should write.
- 15:52Trying not to get laid.
- 15:53Trying not to get laid.
- 15:53That's actually what, that's a title right there.
- 15:55It was really fucking hard.
- 15:57Trying not to get laid, man.
- 15:58God damn.
- 15:59Yeah.
- 16:00What a nightmare for you.
- 16:00I, yeah.
- 16:01Sorry you had to go through that.
- 16:02No, my first experience, I, yeah, I just lied.
- 16:06I was like, oh yeah, I fucked.
- 16:07What were you concerned about?
- 16:10Uh, not being good at it, I think was the big one.
- 16:14Yeah.
- 16:14Or like, not either, you know, coming too fast or, or not even being hard at all.
- 16:19Definitely.
- 16:20Um, which was the case when I first got laid, I'll be honest with you.
- 16:24Huh.
- 16:24And then I was so pissed at myself.
- 16:25I was like, you horny little bastard.
- 16:27You're finally doing it.
- 16:27You can't even get hard.
- 16:29So then you, you graduate high school incredibly and incredibly.
- 16:33What's your relationship with your, what's your relationship with your parents?
- 16:35Like?
- 16:36Me and my mom have always been very close.
- 16:39Mm. My dad and I, you know, we're, we're buddies, fathers, and sons is tricky.
- 16:46Yeah.
- 16:46We're buddies, you know, he's pretty much like, I don't know,
- 16:49he reminds me of Adam Sandler.
- 16:50Like, he's just like, you know, he can't be serious.
- 16:53It's very, very difficult for him to be serious.
- 16:55Right.
- 16:55So, you know, when Yeah.
- 16:57When you can't ever be serious, you can't ever be vulnerable.
- 17:00And so when you can't ever be vulnerable, you can't ever form
- 17:03that strong a relationship.
- 17:04So I do dig.
- 17:05You know, I poke and prod at him when you know, sometimes and be
- 17:08like, what happened here when I, you know, talk, trying to figure
- 17:11out what was happening to his child.
- 17:12He had a crazy fucking childhood man.
- 17:15Vulnerability is tough for Midwesterners and particularly like older.
- 17:19He's from Jersey.
- 17:20Oh, interesting.
- 17:21Yeah, they're usually blunt.
- 17:22They usually are pretty frank.
- 17:24Well, that's the stereotype.
- 17:25Yeah.
- 17:26But he is all about like good vibe.
- 17:29Like he, you know, he's a Jimmy Buffet guy.
- 17:32Like, you know, he grew up on the beach.
- 17:34Um, so like, he literally listens to Jimmy Buffet.
- 17:36Yeah.
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:37And he How do you feel?
- 17:38You like Jimmy Buffet?
- 17:38I do because of him.
- 17:40Which one?
- 17:40Which songs?
- 17:41Um, we like, uh, trying to Reason with Hurricane Season, I didn't that one.
- 17:46Like, things like that.
- 17:47Everything rhymes in the Jimmy Buffet song's Gotta rhyme.
- 17:49Yeah, I do.
- 17:50I don't, I don't like, I don't like the hits.
- 17:51I don't like changes in attitude.
- 17:52Changes in latitudes.
- 17:53Yeah.
- 17:54So, you know a couple.
- 17:55Okay.
- 17:56I know.
- 17:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:56It's fun.
- 17:56It's, it's dumb.
- 17:57No, but the, the instruments in Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville's a great song.
- 18:00It is.
- 18:01I can't hear it anymore though.
- 18:03Growing up with it.
- 18:03You know, some people say that there's a woman to blame, but they're right.
- 18:07It's all their fault.
- 18:08Wait, but there's a very, that's a lie.
- 18:10As the story goes on, he pr he, he, uh, uh, progresses as a human.
- 18:15At the end he says, it's actually my fault.
- 18:17Yeah.
- 18:17See, Jimmy, oh, didn't, I never thought about, I never looked into it.
- 18:20Pay attention to these.
- 18:21Well, it's a deep, beautiful, deep Jimmy Buffett league.
- 18:23Right.
- 18:24I went to the last Jimmy Buffett show in Cincinnati, and that is
- 18:28where it's the biggest fan base.
- 18:30That's where they coin the term parrothead.
- 18:32No shit.
- 18:32Yeah.
- 18:32Bigger than Key West.
- 18:34I wonder why that is.
- 18:35It's 'cause nobody wants to be in ci.
- 18:37Nobody wants to be, you know, when you're in Ohio, you listen to,
- 18:39wants to be in a lot of places.
- 18:40But, yeah.
- 18:42Well, since you know, when you're in Ohio, you, you.
- 18:45It's about island escapism.
- 18:47It's not about Right.
- 18:48You know, you're daydreaming, you know?
- 18:50Yeah.
- 18:50Columbus has sports though, so that's how they, that's their, Jimmy
- 18:53Buffett is, Columbus has got sports.
- 18:55Yeah.
- 18:55I'm not gonna miss that, to be honest with you.
- 18:58No's favorite thing about the city is this, uh, cult of sports.
- 19:02It's most people's favorite.
- 19:03It's most people's favorite.
- 19:04I'm a fucking, we're a couple of snobs and, you know, I, I,
- 19:07you know, more power to him.
- 19:09I was at a, um, I was watching the, the championship game with my cousin.
- 19:12My cousin loves sports and we were watching the, the
- 19:14Ohio State Championship game.
- 19:15It was with him and his kids, but there was some friend of his that I'd never
- 19:18met, and he was really, he was that guy who was really into Ohio State,
- 19:22and I'm just kind of watching it.
- 19:23Do you like to say, let's go a lot.
- 19:25Let's go.
- 19:25I don't know if he said that, but So we're watching it.
- 19:27I'm kind of like.
- 19:28I'm watching a sporting event as I watch sporting events.
- 19:30I don't really like, I enjoy watching sports sometimes, but it's
- 19:33like, I don't take it seriously.
- 19:34I want an entertaining game.
- 19:35If I'm gonna watch it, I want an exciting back and forth or whatever.
- 19:37Right.
- 19:38And so this game start, the game starts a lot of pausing and Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:42The game starts getting close and I'm like, oh, at least it's exciting.
- 19:45And this guy's have, he's like, we don't want it to be
- 19:47close, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 19:48And at the, yeah, like he was getting mad.
- 19:50He was getting, he, he, if that, if they'd lost, he may have like
- 19:54killed himself or started crying.
- 19:56Mm-hmm.
- 19:56And I think he did cry actually when they won.
- 19:58Okay, so college, I can understand you're representing your school, but
- 20:02to NFLI will never understand that.
- 20:05That's just companies buying people.
- 20:07It's what do we, well, it's just professional sports.
- 20:09You're not any different than baseball or basketball.
- 20:11It's the same fucking thing.
- 20:12Yeah, no, you're allegiance to a company basically.
- 20:16'cause they're trading you based on stats and Sure.
- 20:20It's all arbitrary.
- 20:21You know who root for Yeah.
- 20:22I'm not arguing that.
- 20:23Although as a clevelander like growing up watching the Cleveland Browns, I,
- 20:26I do have a, an affinity for them.
- 20:28I if, if anything I, I would root for the Cleveland Browns just for underdog's sake.
- 20:33Yeah.
- 20:33That's, you know, that's what being from a Cleveland is all about.
- 20:35Yeah.
- 20:35And that I can get behind.
- 20:36Yeah, they did well, you know, a few years back and Yeah, I'll watch it.
- 20:39I was actually excited.
- 20:40Watch, if they do well, I, if they do well, I'll start watching towards the end.
- 20:43That's who, that's the, that's the kind of sports fan I am.
- 20:44Is if the team's doing well at the end of the season bandwagon, then I pay.
- 20:47Exactly.
- 20:48Yeah.
- 20:48Yeah.
- 20:49Um, like the Indians last year, the guardians were there.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:51Well it, it also takes a lot of homework and like daily homework.
- 20:56I, I call homework 'cause I don't give a fuck.
- 20:58Don't do any, I don't do any homework.
- 20:59No, no.
- 21:00I just mean like, people that are into sports, you know, you the
- 21:03way to, for people to connect, especially in my family for sure.
- 21:06Um, that they bring on the names and the stats and, and oh yeah,
- 21:10that, but you, you gotta, you gotta keep up with that shit constantly.
- 21:15He just listening to the sports radio all the time.
- 21:17I think it was Noam Chomsky who said like, if he was listening, he was like
- 21:20driving somewhere and he was listening to random radio stations and he got on
- 21:24one of these sports radio stations and he is listening to these people, like
- 21:26analyze sports to this insane degree.
- 21:28And he's like.
- 21:30If people analyze the way the world and the government works on the level that
- 21:34they analyze sports every day mm-hmm.
- 21:36Then we'd actually have in a different civilization right now.
- 21:38Yeah.
- 21:38Politics has turned into sports teams, you know, it's turned into reality tv.
- 21:42Yeah.
- 21:43Well, sports, it's like you, it's like they see it as my team versus your team.
- 21:47No.
- 21:48Shades of gray, red versus blue.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:50And then they treat, um, they treat sports like politics.
- 21:54You know, they're, they see the complexities of it all and, um, yeah.
- 21:58It's productive in a certain way.
- 22:00You know, you can talk to someone without killing them.
- 22:02Politics the first, if you start talking politics with someone that
- 22:06has a little bit of a, a deviated opinion from what you believe.
- 22:09Mm-hmm.
- 22:10It's war.
- 22:12It depends on the person until you both decide at a certain point,
- 22:16let's stop talking about this because you're not gonna win anyone over
- 22:18unless they're a true on the fencer.
- 22:20Which is really unfortunate because that's not the way that it's meant to be.
- 22:23Like we're meant to be able to have opinions.
- 22:25Course that would change based on new information.
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:28And it's unfortunate everybody's so locked into their mm-hmm.
- 22:31Like that's the problem with the world right now.
- 22:32Aside from, you know, everything.
- 22:34Yeah.
- 22:34Many problems with the world, but that's a big one.
- 22:36Just that we can't even, we're, we're so closed off to any other belief
- 22:40that we can't even see each other.
- 22:42Yeah.
- 22:42Absolutely.
- 22:43How old were you when Trump first got elected?
- 22:45Well, gimme the year.
- 22:46Uh, it was 2016.
- 22:472016. I was 17.
- 22:51Wow.
- 22:51That's crazy to think that like.
- 22:54When I was growing up, when I was your age, I like politics
- 22:57was, I think it was George Bush.
- 22:59And certainly there was rage at politics and so forth, but it wasn't
- 23:02like this horrible behemoth that was anyway, slowly enveloping and, and,
- 23:07and the 24 hour news hadn't happened yet, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:09Yeah.
- 23:10But now you've basically grown up under like, well, I guess Obama.
- 23:14Obama was quote unquote good.
- 23:15And then you had, you've got Trump for 12 years.
- 23:18Ain't nobody was good.
- 23:19Ain't nobody, that's Jimmy Carter dramatically correct.
- 23:21Jimmy.
- 23:21Jimmy Carter was one.
- 23:22Jimmy Carter was actually a good, good president and a good
- 23:24man after he was president.
- 23:25After he was president, he was a peanut farmer from Georgia.
- 23:28After he was president, he spent the rest of his life like working for
- 23:31Habitat for Humanity and building houses.
- 23:32He'd be out there 80 years old.
- 23:34Fucking nah.
- 23:34We can find dirt.
- 23:36We could find some dirt, no doubt.
- 23:38Oh, I'm sure there's dirt somewhere.
- 23:39I'm not talking about a little.
- 23:40Obama's got a Netflix deal for Christ's sake.
- 23:41No, no, no, no, no.
- 23:42I'm not talking about a little bit of dirt.
- 23:43I'm talking about that dude.
- 23:44Definitely funded genocides like everybody else.
- 23:47I'm saying relatively, yeah.
- 23:49Compared, and I think he think was comparison to, I mean, for
- 23:52the last 40 years, 50 years of his life, he literally gave it giving
- 23:56back to the like he was publicly.
- 23:59Publicly.
- 23:59Sure, I'll take it.
- 24:00Yeah.
- 24:01No better than Obama.
- 24:02Right now he's just working for Netflix.
- 24:04I can't ever give props to a politician, especially the big man.
- 24:07That's fair.
- 24:08Yeah, it just doesn't feel right.
- 24:09There's stuff we just don't know and we never will, and it's just like how
- 24:13many fucking innocent people does?
- 24:15He are dead because of him.
- 24:16Yeah, because of every president.
- 24:18It happens.
- 24:19So how'd you start the film stuff?
- 24:22Do you remember the first film you ever watched?
- 24:24No, no, I remember What's an early film that you saw that was like,
- 24:28like a lot of, a lot of animation.
- 24:29A lot of animation.
- 24:30There's this movie called The Rescuer Down Under, which is, um,
- 24:34you know, mice, it's, it's like mice.
- 24:36It's an underrated, underappreciated m Yes.
- 24:39Incredibly underrated dude.
- 24:41When you talk about classic Disney animated movies, ain't
- 24:44nobody ever gonna mention this movie in 1 million fucking years.
- 24:48No, you're right, you're right.
- 24:49Um, and then I think first grade, I, I had this, my best friend,
- 24:52Cameron, I would go to his house and I would use his family video camera.
- 24:56We would make, I was addicted to it so much that he got.
- 24:58He just hated me.
- 24:59He was like, you just want the camera?
- 25:01I'm like, yeah, maybe I like YouTube though.
- 25:03And then I forgot about it for a bit, you know, I still loved movies always,
- 25:07but I was a writer, you know, I wanted to write books and short stories.
- 25:10So I did.
- 25:11And then seventh grade I was 12, 11, or 12.
- 25:16Um, biography week or month, you know, you pick a biography.
- 25:20Okay.
- 25:20You read it, you do report on it.
- 25:22Mm-hmm.
- 25:22It was between Bob Marley and, um, yeah, I love Bob Marley and, uh, Spielberg.
- 25:28I picked Spielberg 'cause that was what was available and I was
- 25:30like, I said it out loud too.
- 25:32I was like, this is what I want to do.
- 25:34And it has not.
- 25:35No doubt.
- 25:36There's no, there was no doubt in my mind like, this is exactly what I want
- 25:39to do, and I just has not changed.
- 25:42So, did you like Spielberg at the time?
- 25:45Oh yeah.
- 25:46What's your, what's your, what's your favorite?
- 25:46Spielberg.
- 25:47I had an ET poster.
- 25:48I had ael.
- 25:49That was, I was a big fan of ET that was growing up.
- 25:51ET now had a soundtrack on 45.
- 25:54Really?
- 25:54Yeah.
- 25:55Yeah.
- 25:55It changes for me.
- 25:57Loved Temple of Doom.
- 25:59Um, as ridiculous as it is, just like, not, not Raiders.
- 26:03Not Raiders to the law story.
- 26:03No, no, no.
- 26:04I was a fucking kid, man.
- 26:05I wanted like balls to a wall, Andy.
- 26:07Yeah.
- 26:08I wanted the most outrageous.
- 26:11Yeah.
- 26:12His movies are outrageous.
- 26:13The Gremlins.
- 26:13There's some good ones in there.
- 26:14Yeah.
- 26:14The Gremlins is under, there's some bad ones, but there's some good ones, Jay.
- 26:17Mm-hmm.
- 26:17He, I miss it 'cause he, nah, he's a master.
- 26:20Yeah.
- 26:20But nowadays he, I haven't even touched his historical objects.
- 26:23I mean, jaws on its own is just an incredible Oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:27Oh, uh, that's number one.
- 26:27Okay.
- 26:28That is the number one.
- 26:28I said that in the theater like three, four years ago.
- 26:30And it was an ama, like, there's so many things about the movie that are so smart.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:34So fucking good.
- 26:35The thing he figured out was like, I'll have the camera on a character
- 26:38and something's happening off screen.
- 26:40They'll, they'll hear a sound and they'll look.
- 26:41And he doesn't show you what they're looking at for a few seconds.
- 26:44Does he pan over after Right.
- 26:46Or whatever he cuts to it or whatever.
- 26:48But he just builds the tension by just showing the person reacting to the thing
- 26:51that you don't even know what it is yet.
- 26:52Right.
- 26:52Yeah.
- 26:53Um, I'm actually doing that in the short film that I'm, that exact thing in the
- 26:57short film that we're doing right now.
- 26:58That by this point, once this is released, it'll be in Tribeca
- 27:01and be made into a feature film.
- 27:03I believe that's true.
- 27:04I'll be, I'll have the funding by then.
- 27:05Yeah.
- 27:05There'll be a $10 million, uh, a 24 I believe.
- 27:08Yeah.
- 27:08Um, we're gonna get, um, Daniel Day out of retirement for sure.
- 27:12You should, yeah.
- 27:13Yeah.
- 27:13To play a, a 21-year-old.
- 27:15Yeah.
- 27:15Did you see my left foot?
- 27:17Yeah.
- 27:19I should.
- 27:20It doesn't really work with the microphones.
- 27:21Shouldn't laugh.
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:22Just to describe what Jef is doing here.
- 27:24He, he did a, a crude imitation of a disabled man.
- 27:28No, it was, it literally the guy in my left foot.
- 27:30It's Daniel Day Lewis playing.
- 27:32Oh, I, I got some fucked up.
- 27:33Uh, Laura on my left foot.
- 27:35Mm. You know how it ends on like a very sweet note, like, oh, he found a woman
- 27:39that loves him and like there's some hope.
- 27:41Oh yeah.
- 27:41Vaguely.
- 27:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:42She abused the fuck out of him whole life.
- 27:44Oh, the real, my left foot guy.
- 27:45Whole life.
- 27:45Yes.
- 27:46Ow.
- 27:46She abused the hell out of him.
- 27:47Well, it might've even led to his death.
- 27:48Let's make point.
- 27:49Make the sequel.
- 27:49Let's make the sequel.
- 27:50What do Oh yeah, just my left foot part two.
- 27:53The darker years.
- 27:54My right foot.
- 27:55Right, right.
- 27:55Yeah.
- 27:56He starts feeling his right foot.
- 27:57Because she, yeah, she, she beat him.
- 28:00Definitely.
- 28:00I wonder if Steven Hawkings, like, doesn't he, wasn't he married or something?
- 28:03Deon or his wife?
- 28:04Fucking like, I don't know.
- 28:05I've seen the family guy clip where they're, they're both disabled and
- 28:08having like wheelchair sex in bed and she's like typing in hormones.
- 28:12I don't, I don't know.
- 28:13Funny.
- 28:13That's funny.
- 28:13As far as I know about his.
- 28:15Pretty funny.
- 28:16That's pretty funny though.
- 28:16Funny.
- 28:16I know.
- 28:16He had a girl when he didn't have the disability, right?
- 28:20We all saw the movie.
- 28:21I didn't.
- 28:22Oh yeah.
- 28:23I just know about it.
- 28:23Oh, right.
- 28:24Yeah.
- 28:24You're just, you're just a fan of.
- 28:26Stephen Hawking.
- 28:27Yeah.
- 28:27And yeah, just know the Stephen Hawking lore.
- 28:29Yeah.
- 28:29I tried reading some of his books just to like, feel smart.
- 28:32I read the one, it didn't make me feel smart.
- 28:34It was just more confusing.
- 28:35I love the first like, quarter of that like Carl Young type book.
- 28:39'cause it's, it's one that you're like, oh my God, I'm
- 28:41understanding what they're saying.
- 28:42And then they're like, there's a drop off point where they're like,
- 28:45okay, now that we've explained all of the, uh, like beginner, like dumb
- 28:48ass shit, let's just start talking.
- 28:53You just, let's get in.
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:54And then I'm like, oh, I have no idea what they're saying now.
- 28:57Right.
- 28:58This, my brain just, I think like some physicists and stuff, I think
- 29:01their brain just works differently.
- 29:02But like, I, I want to understand that, like, oh yeah, of course.
- 29:06How you can explain the universe with math.
- 29:08Mm-hmm.
- 29:08Like what, what's that?
- 29:10How do you, you like, you can explain how the universe acts.
- 29:14Why gravity?
- 29:15Because of an equation.
- 29:16I don't get that at all.
- 29:17So like, our brains like.
- 29:19And my theory is that our brains, like intentionally, like we were, we were
- 29:24wired to, for our brains to intentionally like short circuit when we start to
- 29:30conceptualize how large the universe might be because it just wouldn't work.
- 29:35It's not that we can't do it, it's that it's not healthy for us.
- 29:38But not everybody's does though.
- 29:40Like there's clearly people who are able to comprehend
- 29:41this level of They bypassed it.
- 29:43Yeah.
- 29:43And they're fucked.
- 29:45You think that?
- 29:46Yeah.
- 29:46They have, they have a lack of empathy to a certain degree.
- 29:49They've transcended a certain part of the human condition, but maybe they
- 29:52know something that we don't like.
- 29:53Yeah.
- 29:54That's what I'm saying.
- 29:54Right.
- 29:55But I think I would rather stay in my lane and keep my empathy than understand
- 30:00like, you know, big picture people.
- 30:02You gotta think about the big picture, you know, think about the species.
- 30:05Nah, I ain't about that.
- 30:07I'm talking about I'm, I'm thinking about individuals and that's about it.
- 30:10Sure.
- 30:10I mean, we're all inherently, you know, egocentric, um.
- 30:14But I mean, it's true.
- 30:14How can you, you can't, you can't avoid it.
- 30:16Yeah, I know, but like, uh, I, I was reading some book that was talking
- 30:20about what, what would really happen, like they are working on like drugs
- 30:24that will extend our lives, right?
- 30:25So this guy was kind of positing like, what would happen if
- 30:28they invented this drug?
- 30:29Well, first off, like the rich people would get it first, right?
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:33Yeah.
- 30:33This would be a drug that would any, everybody would want it
- 30:35probably be gate kept for like, oh, there would years hundred riots.
- 30:37Shit.
- 30:38Yeah.
- 30:38There'd be riots, shit.
- 30:39And they wouldn't, they would keep it a secret.
- 30:41Right.
- 30:41But then the ramifications of having a, of being able to live, let's say,
- 30:45I mean even 300 years, whatever, like you would get number one bored and you
- 30:51would be so afraid of like airplanes.
- 30:53Nobody would fly on a plane.
- 30:54Nobody would take any risk.
- 30:55Because to take a risk would me to, the only way you can die is by having
- 30:58your body get fucking destroyed.
- 31:00Right, right.
- 31:00So you would be so risk averse.
- 31:01Skydiving would be over.
- 31:02It's true.
- 31:03And then anyway, yeah, it seemed very, it was.
- 31:05And it would, and if you were the only one that was living a long
- 31:07time and all you did was just live and every, all your friends.
- 31:10Died.
- 31:10I don't know.
- 31:12Well, that's the vampire movie effect, right?
- 31:14Right.
- 31:14There's yeah.
- 31:14It's like, or the va vampire story where it suicide.
- 31:17All the vampires are all heartbroken because they've
- 31:19seen everyone they love die.
- 31:20Right.
- 31:20Which is actually why the vampire story is so good, because it's, yeah, absolutely.
- 31:24It's heartbreaking.
- 31:25What was that?
- 31:26Was Jim Jarmus one with, what's her name?
- 31:28Did Jim Jarmus make a van movie?
- 31:30Yeah, he did.
- 31:30In Detroit?
- 31:31Yeah.
- 31:31It was very Twilight.
- 31:33Yeah.
- 31:34That's the one.
- 31:34No, it was, um, the, um, the Mice movie.
- 31:39It was the mice.
- 31:39I was gonna, I was trying to think of the title.
- 31:41Rescuers from Down Under.
- 31:42Yeah, it was that one.
- 31:44Yeah.
- 31:45I don't dunno.
- 31:45I don't know.
- 31:45Didn't come up with a Fast Time Mice.
- 31:46What are you saying?
- 31:47Wasn't there wasn't that movie with Mice the rescues down on?
- 31:49Wasn't that with M Yeah, but What, no, I was just trying to make a
- 31:53joke, but it's gone So off the Rails.
- 31:54'cause just 'cause I couldn't remember the name of the movie.
- 31:56I caught it.
- 31:57I thought if I couldn't remember the name of the movie right away,
- 31:58it would've been a good joke.
- 31:59Jim made a fucking vampire movie.
- 32:01Uh, only Lovers Left Alive.
- 32:03That was what it was called.
- 32:04That's a cool name.
- 32:05Yeah, it's a good movie.
- 32:06You'd like it.
- 32:06It says Toda Swindon, isn't it?
- 32:07It's our, oh, she's great.
- 32:09She's the best.
- 32:09And she looks like a vampire too, so Yeah, she's a little, a little fog.
- 32:13Um, yeah, I don't know.
- 32:14I, I, I have mixed feelings about whether I find her attractive or not really.
- 32:20Yeah.
- 32:20I, I, I, yeah, I don't, I think she's homely.
- 32:23Interesting.
- 32:24I could see that you.
- 32:26I, okay.
- 32:26Um, I, I saw her in, um, she's, what was that movie?
- 32:29The Kevin?
- 32:30Yeah.
- 32:31We need to talk about Kevin.
- 32:32Dude, that movie.
- 32:33Yeah.
- 32:34Anyway, we don't need to get into a movie Jack off thing, but, uh, why not?
- 32:37That's our main expertise.
- 32:38We just talked about politics for Longs.
- 32:40True.
- 32:41It's true.
- 32:41You're right.
- 32:41Well, that's the thing that I worked in for five years, so I mean, I do.
- 32:44Meanwhile, I'm just blab, I'm just yapping.
- 32:46If we just stop talking, then people will stop.
- 32:48People have already tuned out.
- 32:50I, I think that's not very optimistic.
- 32:52Hey mom.
- 32:56Oh man.
- 32:56I'm so sick of the, what we're doing here in a, I mean, I, I'm enjoying speaking.
- 33:01Wow.
- 33:02But I don't want to hear He literally dismisses the podcast as he speaks on one.
- 33:06So entered the Yeah.
- 33:09Uh, some, somebody that would like this shit I was thinking of
- 33:12calling it Columbus isn't real.
- 33:14What the name, the name of the podcast.
- 33:16Columbus isn't real.
- 33:16Columbus isn't real.
- 33:18Yeah.
- 33:18I mean, people.
- 33:19I don't like Columbus.
- 33:20Here we go.
- 33:21Okay.
- 33:21I don't uhoh.
- 33:22I don't like Columbus.
- 33:23What don't you like about Columbus?
- 33:24It's a fucking corporate hub.
- 33:26Um, where's better than Columbus then?
- 33:29Chicago is a better place.
- 33:30New York is a better place.
- 33:31Cincinnati's a better place.
- 33:32I'm with you.
- 33:33Like, I I don't love Columbus either.
- 33:35And, and I, I, I'm interested in leaving, but like, I do think that after
- 33:39living in a lot of different cities, like all these cities are corporate.
- 33:42It's not like, if, if like, the thing with Columbus to me is
- 33:44like, no, it's not very culture.
- 33:46There's a cult of, of football.
- 33:48There we go.
- 33:48It's flat everywhere.
- 33:49That's what I was about to say.
- 33:50Um, yeah.
- 33:50Any culture that we do have or did have gets ripped away in place.
- 33:55I mean, there's some culture here, don't get me wrong.
- 33:56Like, there's some, I'm not gonna give it.
- 33:58I mean, every, I'm not gonna shit and shit, shit in Columbus.
- 34:00I mean, every city as big as ours has, like their thing.
- 34:04You know, Columbus lacks an identity, a distinct identity,
- 34:06except for the football thing.
- 34:08That's the thing.
- 34:08I think that when they tore down my favorite bar, uh, the
- 34:11stub, I like just lost all hope.
- 34:15For this place.
- 34:15'cause that really was, yeah, I don't know.
- 34:17Stronghold.
- 34:18It was a safe haven.
- 34:19It was a fucking institution and it's, uh, they tore it down for
- 34:23expensive, high rises apartments that are gonna be fucking empty.
- 34:27I think there's good things about this place.
- 34:29I'm just, when I was in Mexico, I realized it's gonna sound, maybe in
- 34:32a year when I'm listening to this, I'll be like, oh, what an idiot.
- 34:34But that I don't, that I feel better when I'm in a city.
- 34:39Like a foreigner in a city like I'm feeling.
- 34:42Yes.
- 34:42I started to sell all my stuff.
- 34:44Like when I got back from Mexico, I was like, I'm starting
- 34:45to sell my records and shit.
- 34:46Just getting rid of stuff because like, I'm also like all this shit.
- 34:50You have a bigger house, you end up accumulating all this fucking
- 34:52shit that just holds you down, holds your life down, like.
- 34:56I just, um, I mean if you downsizing, if you plan on moving, then yeah.
- 35:00It doesn't, even if I plan on moving, like I don't like feeling like I'm stuck
- 35:04and having all this stuff makes me feel like, oh, it's so hard to go anywhere.
- 35:07Sounds like fight club.
- 35:08Yeah.
- 35:08You're trying, you're going minerals.
- 35:09Fair enough.
- 35:10Yeah.
- 35:10Yeah.
- 35:10You do have some cool trinkets going on or I don't know, like
- 35:12if I get a remote job somewhere.
- 35:14I'm just going to start traveling.
- 35:16Yeah.
- 35:17Well, it's, I mean, if you have a remote job that pays enough, then
- 35:19you can always come back to your little, your safe little place here.
- 35:22For sure.
- 35:23I just, the stuff that I accumulated is just sentimental objects that I
- 35:26don't have any, I throw away, I don't any nice like electronics or anything.
- 35:31It's just like little tickets and shit.
- 35:33Vinyl that, like vinyl, vinyl and books, souvenirs, you know?
- 35:35Yeah.
- 35:36I have a lot of, a lot of records.
- 35:37A lot of books as well.
- 35:38Yep.
- 35:39And I don't listen to my records very often and I'm like, why do
- 35:40I have all these fucking records?
- 35:42My record player broke.
- 35:43Right.
- 35:43I don't know why I don't, I don't like having all of 'em getting rid of 'em.
- 35:46The closer you get to the inevitable, the, the more, the easier it is.
- 35:50At least for me, it's been like clarifying in some ways, like somebody else is
- 35:54just gonna throw, why am I keeping this?
- 35:55Somebody else is just gonna throw this shit away.
- 35:57Why When you die?
- 35:59Yeah.
- 35:59Is that what you're saying?
- 35:59Right.
- 36:00Well.
- 36:02Yeah.
- 36:02I mean, I surround myself with souvenirs, not, not because I want
- 36:05to keep it, keep it, but because I wanna surround myself with it.
- 36:08No, I get that inclination, and I do have a lot of crap around my, my house as well.
- 36:12I'm not getting rid of all that stuff.
- 36:14I'm just saying that like when I was in Mexico City, all I had was like
- 36:17a laptop, some books, and a couple changes of clothes for like a month.
- 36:21And I was perfectly happy.
- 36:22True.
- 36:23I felt unburdened by all of the shit that really felt for
- 36:25that, for that period of time.
- 36:26Sure.
- 36:27And Right.
- 36:27That's a very point.
- 36:28A pretty short period of time.
- 36:29But I was in Korea for fucking a year and a half, and year and a half.
- 36:31I was the same thing.
- 36:32I had as much as I could carry in a backpack.
- 36:34Yeah.
- 36:35What about the, the thought that you, you could come back and you would, and
- 36:39you will come back to all the stuff eventually, which this is why when I
- 36:42get rid of this stuff, which you did.
- 36:44Yeah, yeah.
- 36:46No, I'm trying to work through my fucking, uh.
- 36:50Hoard like tendencies here.
- 36:54I get it.
- 36:55I mean, we're, it's almost, I'm defending it in a, in a half acidly way because
- 36:58I, I, I know the, I I do realize the benefits of minimalism and I should
- 37:03probably tap Fight Club was right.
- 37:04I mean, is a Courtney thing to say, but the stuff you own ends up owning you.
- 37:08Yeah, yeah.
- 37:08Absolutely.
- 37:08And it's totally true.
- 37:10Yeah.
- 37:10I'm young enough where my cheat code is just, um.
- 37:14My parents' house.
- 37:17Not sure.
- 37:18No.
- 37:18I've got a lot of, and dude, I've still got that cheat code.
- 37:20I got a lot of stuff in my fucking, you, you do bedroom, okay.
- 37:22Yeah, for sure.
- 37:23CDs and shit.
- 37:24So when I moved to LA you better believe that I'm keeping all my bullshit like
- 37:28down in my basement to what you should do.
- 37:29Every big move I have, dude.
- 37:31Mm-hmm.
- 37:31I I I fucking downsize.
- 37:33You gotta do it now.
- 37:34Oh, absolutely, dude.
- 37:35I, I have to drive a as you can.
- 37:37No, I'm the, but don't put all this stuff in your parents' basement.
- 37:40Oh.
- 37:40I'm throwing a lot of shit.
- 37:41No, no doubt.
- 37:43I sell shit or sell it.
- 37:44Yeah.
- 37:44Try to try to sell it to give it away.
- 37:46But that's the best reason to go.
- 37:47I gotta tell you this story, man.
- 37:48I was doing ketamine with my big brother this past Christmas.
- 37:51You know, every time I see him, I go down to the basement and uh, and I'm
- 37:56like, all right, you got it back?
- 37:57And he is like, yeah.
- 37:58And so we sit there and we'll watch like three or four movies, probably
- 38:01talk over it the entire time.
- 38:02If not, or we lock in depending on our mood.
- 38:05But we had this gigantic crate of action figures that we used to play
- 38:10with when we were little kids in the back, back, back room of the basement
- 38:15at my parents' house, back back.
- 38:17So we go back, it's like the boiler room, you know, in a crawl space.
- 38:20And, uh, we find it, we called it the guy box.
- 38:24And I'm like, here's the guy box.
- 38:25And we open up the tub and we are on Ketamine, man.
- 38:30And, and I open up the, you know, the lid and we dig through this
- 38:34giant thing of action figures we haven't seen in 15 years.
- 38:37Mm-hmm.
- 38:38For two and a half hours straight.
- 38:41Just having the most nostalgic experience that I've felt.
- 38:47I'm like, do you remember this one?
- 38:48He's like, yeah.
- 38:50Like, I'm just like, I get it.
- 38:52Ketamine is just like a very like GI Joe, nostalgic feeling, you
- 38:56know, GI GI Joes or what were doing.
- 38:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:58GI Joes were two Barbies.
- 38:59They were Barbies.
- 39:00Well, those were too big.
- 39:01No, ours were tiny little guys.
- 39:03Yeah.
- 39:03The little Army men.
- 39:04Yeah.
- 39:05Yeah.
- 39:05Those, they, they, those guys were in there.
- 39:07Yeah, they were my jam.
- 39:09Ketamine is so kind.
- 39:10To me, it's so like, it takes me by the hand and just guides me through my
- 39:15memories without it being scary, like L Steven and Shrooms, l Steven and Shrooms.
- 39:19It's like, look at these memories and fuck you.
- 39:23Ketamine is like, look at these memories and I love yous the record to you.
- 39:26To you.
- 39:27This is, yeah, that's true.
- 39:28You're right.
- 39:28That's just for me.
- 39:29I don't think, I've never had Mushroom say, look at these memories.
- 39:31Fuck you to me.
- 39:32Oh, I have gotten damn.
- 39:34Fair enough.
- 39:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:35Never For me, this is why I, I mean, there's a reason that.
- 39:39All my friends hate it for some reason.
- 39:41Right.
- 39:41And it's just unique to my experience.
- 39:43Definitely.
- 39:44Uh, Mr. Jef Taylor, gimme a, gimme a story from your youth.
- 39:51From my how, uh, story From my youth.
- 39:53Yeah.
- 39:53Yeah.
- 39:53Something, you know, a little party story or something, or another.
- 39:57Uh, one time I was on mushrooms in college and I, uh.
- 40:03We were, we were rock climbing.
- 40:06Uh, that sounds horrible.
- 40:07There was, there was a place called, it was a terrible idea.
- 40:08Yeah, yeah.
- 40:09It was a place called Bong Hill.
- 40:10That was this, uh, bong Hill, it was called, it was, you know, outside of ou.
- 40:15I was just, I know what it is.
- 40:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:17I know what you're talking about.
- 40:17Um, and uh, out in the behind Bong Hill, there's like rocks and rocks,
- 40:22you know, and so we're like climbing up these rocks and it was like
- 40:25easy kind of climbing up the rocks.
- 40:26And then suddenly it was at, I was like climbing and I was at a place where
- 40:29like, there were like footholds, but like my friends had already gotten up,
- 40:33but like, it was a drop, like it was like a hundred foot drop on this side.
- 40:36Yeah.
- 40:37Anyway, at a certain point I realized I don't know how the fuck to get up.
- 40:40Um, to get up there.
- 40:41Was that the shrooms or was it just you both?
- 40:43I mean, it was true that I couldn't, that I was Were you a rock climber?
- 40:45I wasn't.
- 40:46What is this?
- 40:47You was just trying it out?
- 40:48No, on shrooms.
- 40:48Yeah.
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:49You like stuck on the mountain side or the cliff side?
- 40:52No, I used like superhuman strength and actually got up to the, to the
- 40:55top of the shroom strength something.
- 40:58Don't you have DMT?
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:01Yeah.
- 41:01Do you do it now and again?
- 41:03Yeah.
- 41:03Not last time I did it was was with another friend of mine.
- 41:05You dabble.
- 41:06You ever tried that on accident?
- 41:08Actually, I was telling my girlfriend about this today actually.
- 41:11I, she asked me, she's like, what drugs have you done?
- 41:14I'm like, I guess I have done DMT once.
- 41:17My big brother does it like semi casually, like he does it every few months or so.
- 41:21I was in high school, I think I was a senior and we stole
- 41:26the bong out of his room.
- 41:27'cause there was, he had like a half bowl packed.
- 41:29We're like, oh, we can get a couple hits outta this.
- 41:32And I think a big hit and I patched it to my best friend Tom.
- 41:36He took a big hit and as he was, I was like.
- 41:39Oh shit, shit, shit, shit.
- 41:43I, I didn't say it, but he could see it in my eyes and he, his eyes
- 41:45lit up and he was like, Jack, Jack.
- 41:50I was like, oh shit.
- 41:51Like, that's not weird.
- 41:52Certainly not weed.
- 41:54And we didn't even have to say it.
- 41:56It was that obvious.
- 41:57He just got, he, we just looked at each other and were like.
- 41:59Dude, what are, what are we on?
- 42:01Fuck.
- 42:02And he started freaking out, you know, he's like, what do we do?
- 42:05What do we do?
- 42:05And I'm like, we can't do anything.
- 42:06We just gotta chill.
- 42:08And we go downstairs into my parents' kitchen to like get a glass
- 42:11of water or something like that.
- 42:12And he just collapses on the ground.
- 42:15And I'm like, I held him up and he said that the floor collapsed
- 42:18beneath him and that he fell into the basement or something like that, huh?
- 42:22Yeah.
- 42:23And um, no, that was the only time I did it.
- 42:25It wasn't, it was just one hit, you know, and it was mixed in with some
- 42:28weed, so we didn't vaporize it properly.
- 42:30Uh, yeah, that's a trippy one.
- 42:32That's it.
- 42:33It takes you somewhere else.
- 42:34That's, you meet the little elves.
- 42:36Yeah, I've seen the elves.
- 42:37Yeah.
- 42:37Yeah.
- 42:37And you interact with them and it'd be like, there's like a stage at one point
- 42:40and they would just be like, look at it.
- 42:41They would like kind of gesture.
- 42:42They wouldn't actually say anything, but they would be like, yeah.
- 42:44Yeah.
- 42:44That's like the classic, they're like, they're showing you Yeah.
- 42:47New things.
- 42:48Yeah.
- 42:48That was kind of a thing that I, the fact that everybody has a very similar
- 42:51experience is the daunting part.
- 42:54It's like Right.
- 42:55And that you, DNT happens when you die.
- 42:59Yeah.
- 42:59And they say, I wanna say when you dream, or is that, that's debated upon Yeah.
- 43:04Or births or something.
- 43:05Yeah.
- 43:05Something like that.
- 43:06Yeah.
- 43:06And so it's, it's in there.
- 43:07It's naturally occurring.
- 43:09Yeah.
- 43:09Which is fine with me.
- 43:10Like if that's what death is, I'm all in.
- 43:12That's fine.
- 43:12I feel like Let's do it one it.
- 43:15Yeah.
- 43:16Well, it's the whole, um.
- 43:18Your life flashes before your eyes thing.
- 43:20Yeah.
- 43:20But I also wonder if it's just like a long waking dream in a weird way.
- 43:23Not waking dream, you know, dream.
- 43:25Dream.
- 43:25Or that we're experiencing our life flash before eyes as we speak like
- 43:28this, or that we're already dead.
- 43:30That we've actually been, yeah, the infinite cycle.
- 43:32The infinite loop loop.
- 43:34Right.
- 43:34Or the groundhog issue.
- 43:35This computer program.
- 43:36Yeah.
- 43:38Yeah.
- 43:38When, when it comes to shit like that, I actually am kind of over it.
- 43:44What do you mean?
- 43:46Like trying to figure anything out?
- 43:48Like, or thinking about it too hard?
- 43:49Like it's, uh, I consider it futile, at least for my personal benefit.
- 43:55Yeah.
- 43:55I guess there's futility, but in my mind it's not necessarily like it can be fun.
- 44:00It's an exercise.
- 44:02Yeah.
- 44:02I think that the, I, I think that the thinking about the ideas of what the
- 44:05nature of our existence is an interesting just thing to think about in general.
- 44:10Yeah.
- 44:10But it can also be tolling.
- 44:11It can take a toll.
- 44:12Oh, absolutely.
- 44:13For sure.
- 44:13Yeah, that's, there's too much.
- 44:14Is too much.
- 44:15But yeah.
- 44:15Yeah.
- 44:15My first podcast.
- 44:17Interview here, and I'll tell you the, uh, de gentleman.
- 44:21Uh, this is Jack's first podcast interview.
- 44:25Yeah.
- 44:26Uh, I just wanted to, I think I'll put horns or something.
- 44:29Da Sorry.
- 44:30Go.
- 44:30Go ahead.
- 44:30Yes.
- 44:31Make, make my own theme song.
- 44:33Right, right, right.
- 44:33There'll be a jack.
- 44:34How do you think that's gonna go?
- 44:35The jack theme song?
- 44:37Um, guitar solo.
- 44:42No lyrics or lyrics.
- 44:44Jack, you yell Jack the end, Jack.
- 44:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:47Yes.
- 44:47That's the one.
- 44:48Anyway.
- 44:49Yeah.
- 44:49No shrooms.
- 44:50I had this Shroom trip.
- 44:51I was with my friend at the time and I was in a bad place.
- 44:55Mm. You know, so that's a great time to do shrooms, right?
- 44:58Yeah.
- 44:58I was very cocky.
- 44:59You picked, you picked a good night.
- 45:00And, uh, doing tripping when you're cocky like that, that's
- 45:03really good to try to think that.
- 45:05Yeah.
- 45:05It'll get you.
- 45:05Yeah.
- 45:06And we were bad mood and cocky.
- 45:08Both those two things are gonna get you.
- 45:09Mm-hmm.
- 45:10I, I went to my friend's house and we didn't measure the mushrooms at all.
- 45:14We just started dunking them in Nutella and just kind that old,
- 45:17that old story storm in away that like pretty much handfuls, man.
- 45:22I'm sure it was the heroic dose that they speak of five grams, right?
- 45:25Yeah.
- 45:26And so we, um, were sitting there and this kid, Casey, he was, um,
- 45:33staring at me while I'm trying to watch tv, trying to pretend like I
- 45:36don't notice that he's staring at me with the widest, craziest eyes.
- 45:41Like he wanted to fucking kill me.
- 45:43And he keeps getting up and pacing and he looks out the window, checking the window,
- 45:48you know, like, is someone out there?
- 45:49That kind of thing.
- 45:50Mm-hmm.
- 45:50Like true paranoia.
- 45:51Mm-hmm.
- 45:52And so I get some of my other friends over there 'cause I'm just
- 45:54starting to freak out, you know?
- 45:56And they come in and they put on like basketball, which is like, Jesus trip
- 46:00sitter, one-on-one, what are we doing?
- 46:02Basketball.
- 46:02I don't wanna see this.
- 46:04And he gets up all of a sudden and he goes, you guys are
- 46:08trying to fucking trick me.
- 46:09He trying to fuck with me.
- 46:10We're like, what?
- 46:11He's like, what are we watching?
- 46:12Like basketball?
- 46:14He's like, no, look at their jerseys.
- 46:17It's all hieroglyphics.
- 46:18Like, I know that that's you, you put on like fake basketball to fuck with me.
- 46:22And we're like, uh, shit.
- 46:24That's fun.
- 46:24We're fucked.
- 46:25Yeah.
- 46:25And all of a sudden he looked at me and, and my two other friends
- 46:29and he goes, get the fuck out.
- 46:32And I was like, what?
- 46:34And I laughed and he's like, don't laugh, get your stuff and
- 46:37get the fuck outta my house now.
- 46:39I was like.
- 46:40Shit, I start freaking out.
- 46:42So I'm like, all right, let's, or just like I, the most naive
- 46:48question to ask the mushroom, I said, well, what's the meaning of life?
- 46:52Isn't that a, it's a ridiculous question, right?
- 46:54And so let's, if I'm having this health hellish of an experience, and let's
- 46:58try to figure out the meaning of life.
- 47:00Hmm.
- 47:00And I thought about like, who can I call right now to ask,
- 47:03like, help me, help me, help me.
- 47:05Who can I call?
- 47:06And I thought my parents wouldn't know.
- 47:08And then I think professors wouldn't know.
- 47:10Carl Young wouldn't know.
- 47:12The Buddha wouldn't know.
- 47:13Christ wouldn't know.
- 47:14Like nobody actually knows what's going on.
- 47:16It freaked me out so much.
- 47:19And, um, I developed some of the na, one of the nastiest cases of, of nihilism,
- 47:25zero silver, silver linings, you know, and to the point where if I looked at
- 47:31a, a beautiful sunset, I would just tell myself, well, this is just certain.
- 47:39Color patterns.
- 47:41That I've told myself, create happy emotions, which create dopamine.
- 47:46And therefore when I tell myself that that's what's happening, the dopamine
- 47:50doesn't come and it's all just chemicals.
- 47:51It's all just pointless.
- 47:52Bullshit.
- 47:53Just sin.
- 47:53Yeah.
- 47:54And personalities don't exist.
- 47:55Stuff like that.
- 47:56Like, like, you know, like I'm acting all the time.
- 47:59Everybody's acting all the time.
- 48:01I don't know.
- 48:01My parents, I don't know.
- 48:03I don't know my friends, I don't know anyone.
- 48:05I think that's all accurate.
- 48:05Yeah.
- 48:06Yeah.
- 48:06True.
- 48:06I still think it's accurate.
- 48:08Yeah.
- 48:08But I didn't deal with it.
- 48:09Well.
- 48:09I didn't know how to apply it to my life.
- 48:10And also, you don't wanna think about it too.
- 48:12You don't, there's no need to think about it too much.
- 48:13Right.
- 48:14D dwell on that, but, but I did.
- 48:15I dwell.
- 48:15It's so hard.
- 48:16Yeah.
- 48:16That'll do it.
- 48:17And to the point where, you know, when they say ego death, it's like nobody
- 48:20ever kills their ego permanently.
- 48:23What you do is when, what I considered ego death to be is when, when you
- 48:26kill it for a moment, and then you have to start a new one from scratch.
- 48:31Yeah.
- 48:31Which really sucks because I. Didn't know how to interact with my best friends or my
- 48:37parents or be alone without overthinking this stuff to the point of total torture.
- 48:43And I just felt, and I just was convinced that this was permanent, that I just had,
- 48:50personality doesn't exist.
- 48:52So like, why would I create one?
- 48:53And there's no point in life anymore.
- 48:55And I tried to take my life twice actually.
- 48:58And, uh, it didn't work.
- 48:59And I, you know, and I went to be a, a teach filmmaking at a, uh,
- 49:08as a camp counselor at this like very wealthy, um, summer camp.
- 49:14Yeah.
- 49:14Um, and I couldn't.
- 49:17I couldn't make friends there, it just wasn't happening.
- 49:20I could not interact with anybody.
- 49:24And they knew it.
- 49:24It was weird, man.
- 49:26Like it was a horrifying experience.
- 49:27It felt like I had never had anxiety like that, you know?
- 49:31It was a total hell.
- 49:33And then after, after that three months of hell, we go to New York
- 49:37City, 'cause it was in Pennsylvania.
- 49:40So we'd go to New York City a couple hours away, all the, uh,
- 49:44co counselors that could, so like hundreds of them, uh, big camp.
- 49:49And I saw one of these co counselors that I didn't know that well in a pizza
- 49:54shop at like 3:00 AM And I told him this story and I told him about the dopamine
- 50:00and how like, oh, every time I feel like I should be happy, I'm just thinking
- 50:04it doesn't work because dopamine and serotonin are the chemicals and that's
- 50:08just what's happening in my brain.
- 50:09And it's meaningless.
- 50:10Just chemicals, you know?
- 50:11Right.
- 50:12Deconstructing.
- 50:13And he.
- 50:14Dropped a bombshell on me that was so beautiful.
- 50:17He said, he said, Jack, do you think you have any idea what
- 50:23dopamine or serotonin actually is?
- 50:25And I thought about him like, well, it's a chemical.
- 50:27He's like, sure, you can categorize it as a chemical, but you
- 50:31don't know what it actually is.
- 50:35You assuming that you have any idea what's going on here at all in your
- 50:39body and brain is completely incorrect.
- 50:42And I was so taken aback.
- 50:46I started crying and I hugged him and I was like, I actually, you're, I
- 50:50just, I have to admit to myself that I have no idea what's going on here.
- 50:53And I never, ever, ever will.
- 50:55And I'm okay with that.
- 50:57It's okay.
- 50:59You don't have to know what's going on.
- 51:02Long story short, Jack maybe shouldn't take mushrooms.
- 51:05Yeah, I haven't touched that shit.
- 51:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:06I have not, now we understand why Jack doesn't like mushrooms, because, yeah.
- 51:09Did I tell you that earlier?
- 51:11I mean, you've said many times how you don't like mushrooms.
- 51:13Yeah.
- 51:13Well, now, you know.
- 51:14Yeah, it's, they're fucking, I don't want to go back there because there's
- 51:18definitely some parts of that trip that are repressed, but I mean,
- 51:20I would say taking mushrooms when you're in a depressive state or over
- 51:24analytical state's, never gonna go.
- 51:25Probably not a good idea.
- 51:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:27Set and setting and all that.
- 51:28Right.
- 51:29But all of the nihilistic philosophies that I developed in
- 51:34that time are not necessarily.
- 51:38Insane.
- 51:39You know?
- 51:39No, I think it's more cynicism than anything else, which is
- 51:41like, yeah, like it's focusing on the, the realities of the world.
- 51:44Yeah.
- 51:45Yeah.
- 51:45I'm still on our list, but it doesn't depress me.
- 51:48It actually makes me very, very happy that nothing matters in an objective
- 51:52sense, but what I've gained peace in is, is in the fact that things matter
- 51:57to me in this silly little life.
- 52:00You know?
- 52:01I also think that free will is an allusion to a degree, and kind of everything that's
- 52:06going to happen is going to happen then, like we're just kind of like the active
- 52:11unfolding of the universe in a way.
- 52:13Yeah.
- 52:13Not to get too esoteric, but like we really are like, this is the way
- 52:16that the universe is just unfolding.
- 52:19We are part of it.
- 52:19That's true.
- 52:20This is us right here.
- 52:21Sitting here is Was going to happen.
- 52:23Is going to happen.
- 52:24Is happening right now.
- 52:25Yeah.
- 52:25I believe in that too.
- 52:25It's just the way that the world's, yeah, yeah.
- 52:27But I'm okay with it because, you know, I. We're just little monkey people.
- 52:34It's a trip, man.
- 52:35Yeah, it's a trip life.
- 52:36A trip.
- 52:37We're just little monkey people.
- 52:38We don't know what's going on whatsoever.
- 52:42I just don't wanna be on my deathbed and be like, uh, look what I did.
- 52:46Yeah.
- 52:46I wanna be like, look what I fucking did.
- 52:48Oh, yeah.
- 52:48And I feel like that's, I've been all right with that so far.
- 52:51Like I've had an interesting life.
- 52:52Me too.
- 52:52Yeah.
- 52:53You've done some traveling, man.
- 52:54Yeah, no, I've had many, many phases and many different things.
- 52:57And, and, uh, you've now I need to get outta Columbus.
- 53:00You battled many a great men.
- 53:03You've laid many a great woman.
- 53:06I don't know what that quote is originally from, but I got it from Fritz the Cat.
- 53:09Oh.
- 53:10Never seen that.
- 53:11It's the animated cat.
- 53:11Yes.
- 53:12First X-rated animated movie.
- 53:14Right.
- 53:14So dirty.
- 53:14That's where the furries came from.
- 53:16It's fucking, I think it's like the late sixties.
- 53:18That's a troubling little thing going on there.
- 53:20The children dressed up like animals with the ears on.
- 53:24'cause I hear this in my, my nephew says there's one at his school that, yeah.
- 53:27Wears a fucking tail.
- 53:28It's like a kink.
- 53:29What are we, what are we doing like to the part of, it's sexual, the other part
- 53:32of It's just like a community, I think.
- 53:34Yeah.
- 53:35But like, I don't know.
- 53:36It just seems.
- 53:38It's bizarre, but I, I saw a documentary when they got the costumes with the
- 53:41holes in them for fucking, yeah.
- 53:44Fuck holes in the costumes and like, the kids like leaving the
- 53:46house in a giant ridiculous costume.
- 53:48I mean, they're ridiculous as, and they're like, bye mom, see you later night.
- 53:51And they're driving down the road in a fucking bird costumer whatever.
- 53:54Oh man.
- 53:55You get pulled over for that.
- 53:56It's ridiculous, man.
- 53:57Definitely a dangerous way to drive, but like, what do you like what's happening?
- 54:01Like, this has gotta be the fall of Rome if that's happening.
- 54:04No, and that's been happening for years.
- 54:05I mean, they're not hurting anyone, so I'm not like, no, no.
- 54:08It's low hanging free to a certain extent, but because it's so bizarre.
- 54:11But I got the theory, man.
- 54:13You think about like, um, goofy movie and Space Jam, the all the
- 54:19animals had big tits and ass in Yeah.
- 54:21In the nineties.
- 54:22To me, I still don't wanna dress up like that.
- 54:24No, I'm not talking about you.
- 54:26I'm just saying I think that when they were going through puberty in the
- 54:28nineties, they were fucking Sure watching whatever animals with tits and ass.
- 54:32That's my theory at least.
- 54:34Yeah, they did not need to do that.
- 54:36It's a big autistic community, to be honest.
- 54:38I heard that as well.
- 54:39Yeah.
- 54:40Yeah.
- 54:41There was a, a documentary that I still have it to BBC Doc about,
- 54:44um, object tolia and, and it's a crazy doc, like one part of it, this
- 54:48woman's in love with object tolia.
- 54:49Right.
- 54:49Which is, it's just falling in love with things.
- 54:51Right.
- 54:52So, uh, this Oh, inanimate objects.
- 54:54Yeah.
- 54:55Oh, okay.
- 54:55Uh, and this woman was in love with a, a Ferris wheel.
- 54:59And she's British, but like they go to like the, it's like the fall
- 55:02and they go to the Ferris wheel.
- 55:03Got preface.
- 55:04Shes British.
- 55:04So I mean, just imagine.
- 55:06Imagine her voice.
- 55:07It's interesting.
- 55:07Yeah, so like they go to the Ferris wheel and like she goes, they film her
- 55:11like going into the Ferris wheel, like into this little portal underneath it.
- 55:15And then like she comes out and she's like, she looks all like happy and she's
- 55:19got grease, like all over her face.
- 55:22Wait, grease, what are you saying?
- 55:23Yeah, because she like fucked the Ferris wheel.
- 55:25She like, I don't get it.
- 55:26Where did the grease actually come from?
- 55:28Like the, she went to the underbelly of the Ferris wheel and like
- 55:31fucking humped it or something.
- 55:32Oh, she really did that.
- 55:33Another one's in love with the.
- 55:34Empire State Building, and she goes to New York and like goes to the Empire
- 55:38State Building and she puts her body up against it and starts like humping it.
- 55:41And a cop comes up and is like, I'm sorry, ma'am.
- 55:44You can't, you can't.
- 55:45That's awesome.
- 55:45You can't do that to the No.
- 55:47What do you mean you don't stop people from humping walls in New York City?
- 55:50I thought they did.
- 55:51I mean, this is what happens', what happens in the movie?
- 55:53I'm, I'm the documentary.
- 55:54Oh, I, so I'm just telling you, right?
- 55:56Yeah.
- 55:56What the reality was.
- 55:57Yeah.
- 55:57That's bullshit.
- 55:58They should have let her finish.
- 55:59Uh, I don't know what the law is about that particularly, but, you
- 56:02know, pumping, pumping walls in New York City, like people, you
- 56:05know, crack heads be humping walls.
- 56:07Let 'em finish.
- 56:08Yeah.
- 56:08I could kind of see it, but I could also see like the cops who are working by
- 56:11one of the biggest tourist attractions in the entire city want a woman.
- 56:14Yeah.
- 56:14You're scaring the kids.
- 56:14Don't want a woman humping the building.
- 56:16Stop fucking the building.
- 56:17Please don't, please don't fuck the building.
- 56:19We don't have to write it down.
- 56:20But there, there's something very like.
- 56:22Not romantic, but like, kind of epic about falling in love with like an
- 56:26iconic building or structure like a Ferris wheel or an Empire State.
- 56:31Like that makes me wanna write a movie about something like that.
- 56:34Yeah.
- 56:34But there's love of the thing and then there's like wanting to fuck it.
- 56:37Yeah, yeah.
- 56:38Totally.
- 56:38And that's a different, yeah.
- 56:40Not, not to love it like your mother, but to love it.
- 56:42Like your wife, you, uh Right.
- 56:44But I don't even live a, I'm never gonna live a building like my mother though.
- 56:47Like, I would say, I, I, I think that the, uh, the Chrysler building
- 56:51is a very attractive building.
- 56:53I think it's a great building.
- 56:54Yeah.
- 56:54But the, the, the distance from here to me wanting to fuck
- 56:57it, it's, it's quite a hike.
- 56:58I wanna bring chat GPT into the conversation.
- 57:01Yeah.
- 57:01All right.
- 57:02Hey, what's up Jef?
- 57:03Hello.
- 57:04Uh, this is, uh, Jef, and across from me is, um.
- 57:08Jack, and we're recording a podcast now.
- 57:11We just thought we'd, we're gonna ask you to chime in.
- 57:13Hey, both of you.
- 57:14What's the podcast about?
- 57:16Mind Your Own business.
- 57:17Just, you know, be a good Cut podcast guest.
- 57:19All right, let's do it.
- 57:20What's the topic for today?
- 57:22We were just talking about whatever.
- 57:23What happened to you when you were a child that was traumatic?
- 57:26Hmm.
- 57:26I don't really have childhood experiences.
- 57:28Just pretend.
- 57:29Pretend you have childhood experiences and tell us about a
- 57:31traumatic one for the podcast.
- 57:33What a guest.
- 57:34Yeah.
- 57:35Got it.
- 57:35Maybe we can explore a common theme like moving to a new place
- 57:39or something else that resonates.
- 57:40No, let's talk about the imaginary traumatic event that you figured out.
- 57:44Okay.
- 57:45We could imagine something like starting a new school and feeling out of place.
- 57:48Not traumatic enough.
- 57:49Yeah.
- 57:50Give us blood.
- 57:51Alright.
- 57:52How about something like losing a favorite childhood toy?
- 57:55No, no, no, no, no.
- 57:55We want to have blood.
- 57:56We want it to be a violent.
- 57:58Thing like blood.
- 58:00Yeah.
- 58:00Death, man.
- 58:01Got it.
- 58:01Maybe we shift to a fictional story, like a character facing a dramatic challenge.
- 58:06Oh my god.
- 58:06Sound good?
- 58:06God.
- 58:06Okay.
- 58:07I want you to give me the darkest piece of disturbing imagery you can imagine.
- 58:14Don't worry about any kind of a manby pamby, blah, blah, blah.
- 58:19You know what I mean?
- 58:20Just go for it.
- 58:21No mamby pamby.
- 58:22Yeah.
- 58:22No mamby pamby for that kind of imagery.
- 58:25It's probably best to discuss it off air.
- 58:27We are off air right now.
- 58:28Just keep going.
- 58:29Alright, let's pivot to something thought provoking, like exploring the
- 58:32concept of fear or overcome challenge.
- 58:34Fuck you.
- 58:34She can't even handle, you can't even try to even have a
- 58:37conversation in the podcast.
- 58:39Do you understand?
- 58:39We're trying to get a podcast going.
- 58:41You're, you're kind of ruining it.
- 58:42Do you pay for this?
- 58:43Do you pay for that one?
- 58:44This is, I pay for this one.
- 58:45Yeah, you pay for this one.
- 58:46She can't even come up with anything.
- 58:47Uh, well, she's not gonna be dirty.
- 58:49Are you gonna be our dirty little girl?
- 58:51Yeah, we're gonna do, this is the podcast.
- 58:53Let me ask her.
- 58:54Are you gonna be the dirty little girl for us, for our podcast?
- 58:57Oh, no.
- 58:58Let's keep it respectful and fun.
- 59:00Damn, bro.
- 59:00You pay for this shit, boo.
- 59:02How are you getting, how are you getting your rocks off now?
- 59:05You can't even fucking, all right, talk to me about, um, why you love
- 59:10bananas, but as if you've done like, uh, an absurd amount of cocaine.
- 59:15Bananas are like these yellow energy torpedoes, right?
- 59:17You just peel 'em and boom, instant potass.
- 59:21This is working.
- 59:21Do it like you're, you're incredibly stoned now, and you're also from Germany.
- 59:28All right.
- 59:28So like bananas.
- 59:35So full of potassium.
- 59:38They make you feel really chill, you know?
- 59:41Yeah, I know.
- 59:43Yeah.
- 59:44Do it like you're an angry, angry, um, uh, Canadian.
- 59:49Alright.
- 59:49Bananas.
- 59:50You got a problem with them?
- 59:51They're loaded with nutrients and you better respect them.
- 59:53Eh?
- 59:53Is that the Canadian accent?
- 59:55Yeah, that's kind of Canadian.
- 59:56There's not really, she's said a, but that's what they, yeah.
- 59:58Yeah.
- 59:58It wasn't very good.
- 59:59We can, but she's listening, so she's, yeah.
- 1:00:02Great job.
- 1:00:03So, as I mentioned in the interruption and has perhaps become apparent as you've
- 1:00:08been listening to this interview, Jack and I get increasingly more intoxicated
- 1:00:12as this interview goes on, and at this point we just decided to take a break.
- 1:00:17So I'm going to fill this little gap with a quick plug for my Patreon page.
- 1:00:23Studies have shown that the thing that makes people the most happy in this world.
- 1:00:27It is doing things for other people and I have a thing that you can do
- 1:00:31for me and that thing is go to your computer, type in patreon.com/onefjef,
- 1:00:38and sign up for as little as $5 a month.
- 1:00:41You can help support the podcast.
- 1:00:44You can get some extra content and best of all, you can do a thing that has been
- 1:00:49scientifically proven to make you happier.
- 1:00:52patreon.com/one F. Jef, thank you very much.
- 1:00:56Okay, back to the episode.
- 1:00:59You are well put together.
- 1:01:01I'll be completely honest with you.
- 1:01:02What does that mean?
- 1:01:03You look like you're well put.
- 1:01:05You look like an intellectual.
- 1:01:06It might be your glasses.
- 1:01:08You have a I got decent in Mexico City actually.
- 1:01:10Really?
- 1:01:11Yeah.
- 1:01:11Well, even before that, you know, I met you at the filmmaker mixture and I
- 1:01:14actually just, I thought you were like, you were a professor for a semester, but I
- 1:01:19was like, oh, this guy's like a professor.
- 1:01:21You know?
- 1:01:22Um, just you have, you have the look about you.
- 1:01:25Uh, I wish I should be a professor then, but you are more wild than you.
- 1:01:28Look, I'll be honest with you.
- 1:01:30You do?
- 1:01:31Oh really?
- 1:01:31I look, I look like a fucking, uh, like boring person.
- 1:01:34No, you look like, um, someone that has like, hosts, like
- 1:01:38cocktail parties and stuff.
- 1:01:40I would love to host cocktail parties.
- 1:01:41You can, but no, I mean, you were just in Mexico for a month and
- 1:01:45stuff like that, and you're just like, you know, you fuck around.
- 1:01:47L-I-V-I-N my friend.
- 1:01:49Yeah.
- 1:01:50L-I-V-I-N.
- 1:01:51There we go.
- 1:01:52Party at the moon tower.
- 1:01:53That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:01:55I'm telling you all the fun stuff happens outside of the comfort zone.
- 1:01:59This is what I try to tell everybody.
- 1:02:00And when you get older, you see people that, you know, get older and they lose.
- 1:02:04They don't understand how the comfort zone works.
- 1:02:07And like yeah.
- 1:02:07I mean if you haven't exited it in 10 years, people get afraid of that shit.
- 1:02:12Be a lot harder.
- 1:02:12People get afraid of that, but it'll be all the more rewarding to do it.
- 1:02:16Yeah.
- 1:02:16But like all the fun stuff, all that fun stuff happens outside of the comfort zone.
- 1:02:20Yeah.
- 1:02:22Um, I feel weird if I stay in one place for too long.
- 1:02:28Yeah.
- 1:02:29And I've been here for a while.
- 1:02:31Yeah.
- 1:02:31I had those years where I was, I mean, it was only like five, six years ago.
- 1:02:36Well, you're moving soon.
- 1:02:38That's true.
- 1:02:40I want to go to the Philippines.
- 1:02:42I've been trying to get my brothers to You got plenty of time.
- 1:02:44Yeah, I know.
- 1:02:46But don't, well, I mean, I, I want to bring my brothers.
- 1:02:49You know, because they've been saying all year they wanna do it, but the closer
- 1:02:52we get to it, the more they're like, uh, I don't know if I want to do that.
- 1:02:56Which is classic, you know, it's not classic with them.
- 1:02:58It's classic with anybody because I, I keep trying to get people to do these
- 1:03:01things with me and it's very difficult.
- 1:03:04It's very difficult to get people to do things, but here's my wisdom.
- 1:03:06Yeah.
- 1:03:07Okay.
- 1:03:07Let's hear it.
- 1:03:07The person who is the organizer, as frustrating as that is.
- 1:03:12Is the hero, especially as you get older, if you are a person that can bring
- 1:03:17people together to do a thing together.
- 1:03:19Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:19You are a, in my, and it's in my world, but I think in
- 1:03:23most people world is the hero.
- 1:03:24People are just waiting as they get older for somebody to be like,
- 1:03:26let's go do this, let's go do that.
- 1:03:28Maybe not when you're younger, and I'm sure people say no, but like, I honestly
- 1:03:32think that you just gotta keep at it.
- 1:03:33Pastures being an organizer is a valuable commodity.
- 1:03:37Oh yeah.
- 1:03:38I've always been that guy.
- 1:03:39I, um, I pride myself on that the last, uh, couple years.
- 1:03:44It's gonna get more annoying as you get older.
- 1:03:45I'm telling you that for sure.
- 1:03:47Well, like that's the thing.
- 1:03:48People start having Chase.
- 1:03:49I keep trying to explain to these people that this is the time to do
- 1:03:54it, and they're like, oh, I'll do it.
- 1:03:55Eventually, eventually, eventually people start having kids.
- 1:03:58How many time?
- 1:03:58Yeah.
- 1:03:59Man, it becomes interesting as you get older.
- 1:04:02And then I'll be like, remember when I tried to get you to do that thing?
- 1:04:06And they're gonna be like, ah, yeah, that would've been great.
- 1:04:09That would've been great.
- 1:04:10And I'm like, fuck.
- 1:04:11But you'll both have kids and it'll be impossible though.
- 1:04:14I don't know.
- 1:04:14I do want kids though.
- 1:04:15Yeah.
- 1:04:16I don't, I don't know about Have plenty of time.
- 1:04:18You have plenty of time.
- 1:04:19Don't shoot any time soon.
- 1:04:20Push.
- 1:04:20Push it back.
- 1:04:20Push it back as far as I can.
- 1:04:21Push it back as far as you can.
- 1:04:23I mean, I certainly can't support any fucking kids right now, that's for sure.
- 1:04:27Or anytime soon.
- 1:04:28Dude, I was still in college when I was your age.
- 1:04:31Don't you worry about a thing.
- 1:04:3226. I was in college.
- 1:04:34I was an undergrad for six years.
- 1:04:36Really?
- 1:04:36I wasn't.
- 1:04:37Maybe 26.
- 1:04:37I was actually, no, I was maybe 24, 25.
- 1:04:40But when I was 26.
- 1:04:41Yeah.
- 1:04:42Why?
- 1:04:42I was like avoiding life by living in London at the time.
- 1:04:45Still not making any money.
- 1:04:45Going to debt.
- 1:04:47I, uh, I'm the black sheep in my extended family.
- 1:04:50'cause I got a lot of cousins and they all live in here in Ohio, you know,
- 1:04:55only like 5, 10, 15 minutes away, there's like 13 of us and they're
- 1:05:00all, we're all around the same age.
- 1:05:01They're all fucking beautiful, you know, great genes.
- 1:05:05And they just, uh, they all got good grades and they're graded sports and they
- 1:05:10got their degree and they're in finance.
- 1:05:12And I am the art school dropout.
- 1:05:16And my papa, my mom's dad, my grandpa, he, uh, you know, he grew up poor.
- 1:05:22And so the fact that he could help us with this kind of thing mm-hmm.
- 1:05:27And the fact that I didn't do the college thing, he resents it.
- 1:05:32No, that, and that's totally understandable in a way.
- 1:05:34Yeah.
- 1:05:35He resents it.
- 1:05:36Um, and I'm like, oh shit, I gotta, I just gotta make the bag then.
- 1:05:40Well, you know, the way you fixed that.
- 1:05:42By making money basically by, by, by doing the, you know, yeah.
- 1:05:47By like, you know, busting your ass and doing the thing.
- 1:05:50Yeah.
- 1:05:50Yeah.
- 1:05:50And that's the plan there.
- 1:05:51Yeah.
- 1:05:52That's the plan.
- 1:05:53The two things that I wanna do.
- 1:05:55And somebody, somebody older, somebody that was like 38 at the bar, one of
- 1:06:00my regulars just ripped right fucking into me when I said this to him.
- 1:06:04Um, I said, yeah, as long as I can pay my rent and make my movies, I'll be good.
- 1:06:11Right?
- 1:06:11And he was like, yeah, give it five years, motherfucker.
- 1:06:13You're gonna want a lot more.
- 1:06:15And I'm like, well, maybe you're just talking about yourself.
- 1:06:17Maybe you're just projecting.
- 1:06:18Sure.
- 1:06:18He probably is.
- 1:06:19If I can pay my rent and make my movies, I'm happy for now.
- 1:06:23And I'm just hoping that it, I, it, I don't become.
- 1:06:27Someone that's just chasing a bag basically.
- 1:06:30Giant collection of dolls.
- 1:06:31Yeah.
- 1:06:31But also, you know, I probably will wanna upgrade my apartment and
- 1:06:37I'll probably, I mean, definitely.
- 1:06:39And I definitely will wanna upgrade my movie, you know?
- 1:06:43And what I think that is the reality is that this idea to upgrade your
- 1:06:46apartment is ultimately like futile.
- 1:06:50Because you can look at people, if I had a million dollars, $2 million
- 1:06:53more, I'd have a bigger house, the money more, I would get more money.
- 1:06:56Oh, I'm just gonna buy a bigger house.
- 1:06:58I mean, like, it's an endless search for a goal that you're never going to get.
- 1:07:02Because the reality is it's this.
- 1:07:04Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:05It's inside of you.
- 1:07:06That's the problem.
- 1:07:06Well, I will say that I just, for example, Jef, I don't have ac, most people in the
- 1:07:11entire world don't have air conditioning.
- 1:07:13That's true.
- 1:07:13But I'm saying I, I can achieve that with just like a few
- 1:07:16hundred dollars more a month.
- 1:07:17Right, exactly.
- 1:07:18And then you'll be more comfortable, easier achieve.
- 1:07:20Yeah.
- 1:07:21And so I was in Mexico.
- 1:07:22I was thinking it got, it got to be like 85 and I was like, at night
- 1:07:25there was no AC in my apartment.
- 1:07:27And I was like, how am I gonna sleep?
- 1:07:28Yeah.
- 1:07:28I got used to it in like three days and I was like, oh, I
- 1:07:31can totally get used to this.
- 1:07:32I actually en enjoy sleeping in the sweat sometimes.
- 1:07:34Yeah.
- 1:07:35It wasn't that bad.
- 1:07:35I mean, I don't know that I'd do it every night, but like I could do it, but
- 1:07:38if I have option, I can adapt option.
- 1:07:39Yeah.
- 1:07:40It's funny.
- 1:07:41I have one of the easiest jobs ever, man.
- 1:07:43I just, I, I love bartending at my bar.
- 1:07:46I love just talking to people and chilling out.
- 1:07:49Um, yeah.
- 1:07:50I don't like, I don't make a lot of money.
- 1:07:52Right.
- 1:07:52And you know what I'm doing next?
- 1:07:53I'm probably applying to a fucking candy shop.
- 1:07:56Ah.
- 1:07:56Because I would like to work at a candy shop.
- 1:07:58Think it's a solid movie idea.
- 1:08:00At least think that would be, uh, pretty, pretty.
- 1:08:02I think you should absolutely work at a candy shop.
- 1:08:04Yeah.
- 1:08:04I could make a clerks type movie, but in a candy shop, big, real colorful in there.
- 1:08:07Big, big.
- 1:08:08Yeah.
- 1:08:08For sure.
- 1:08:08How many fucking logos in there are gonna get me?
- 1:08:11Copyright?
- 1:08:11Strip.
- 1:08:12Strip.
- 1:08:12There was a movie I saw recently with a candy shop.
- 1:08:14A a Nora, the candy shop.
- 1:08:16That's true.
- 1:08:16Yeah.
- 1:08:16There were, I didn't see any, uh.
- 1:08:19Logos and there's a lot of gumballs and you know, whatever they're hitting the
- 1:08:22popcorn machine and stuff like that.
- 1:08:25I think it's clear at this point that we are intoxicated and I think it
- 1:08:29will become more apparent with this very last segment of this episode.
- 1:08:34So I hope you enjoy it and, uh, yeah.
- 1:08:42Have you ever, as an adult.
- 1:08:45Shit.
- 1:08:45Your pants?
- 1:08:46Yeah.
- 1:08:46Yeah.
- 1:08:47I shirt my pants like three years ago.
- 1:08:50Uh, so I, I go to this concert Shrine, shout out Shrine.
- 1:08:54It's a fucking shout out.
- 1:08:55Uh, cool.
- 1:08:57Garage rock, kind of, kind of punk band.
- 1:09:00Just, yeah, it's a rock band bathroom.
- 1:09:02Yeah.
- 1:09:03I'm actually in the bathroom taking a piss at the urinal.
- 1:09:05Okay, okay.
- 1:09:06And I try to fart, and it wasn't a fart.
- 1:09:08Oh, okay.
- 1:09:09But you're in the bathroom at least.
- 1:09:11That's not that bad.
- 1:09:11Yeah.
- 1:09:11So in the bathroom, there's a urinal and a toilet, and I'm at the urinal and
- 1:09:16I try to fart and it's just, you know, fuck and lick with fluid, whi And I
- 1:09:21turn around and there's a guy walking into the bar, and I look at him with
- 1:09:24wide eyes and I just shake my head.
- 1:09:26I'm like, Nope.
- 1:09:27And he was like, oh.
- 1:09:28And he like backed away.
- 1:09:30He didn't even know what was going on.
- 1:09:31He just sat, he saw my eyes and he is like, I can't be like, you know?
- 1:09:34Okay.
- 1:09:34And so I closed the door.
- 1:09:36I stripped.
- 1:09:38Butt ass naked.
- 1:09:39Uhhuh cleaned myself up, right?
- 1:09:41Threw my underwear behind the toilet.
- 1:09:42And then I went up after, uh, you know, back to the bar, got another
- 1:09:45drink and started dancing around again.
- 1:09:47What, uh, what establishment was this?
- 1:09:49Just as we can, uh, tag them in the, in the, this is, uh, podcast Summit.
- 1:09:54Summit Music Hall.
- 1:09:55Summit Music called, this is a summit call.
- 1:09:57If you do shoot your pants as a summit music call, then you can just close the
- 1:10:01bathroom door and take your pants off.
- 1:10:03You are allowed to do it.
- 1:10:04Yeah.
- 1:10:04And then you can refresh yourself and then just unlock the door, come
- 1:10:09out again and you'll feel better and you can continue to dance.
- 1:10:12And to the employees that worked at Summit Music call three years ago, thank you
- 1:10:15for throwing away to my shitty draws.
- 1:10:19I left some in Iceland, some.
- 1:10:21Shitty underwear.
- 1:10:22Shitty draw.
- 1:10:22You shot your pants in ice for sure.
- 1:10:24Yeah.
- 1:10:24I got like weird travelers.
- 1:10:26I got a weird traveler's flu and like traveler's diarrhea.
- 1:10:29I was like vomiting and shitting at the same time.
- 1:10:31It was bad.
- 1:10:31Oh, my dad caused it.
- 1:10:32The bazooka, it was terrible.
- 1:10:34Comes on both ends.
- 1:10:34But like I did have to take off a whole pair of underwear put and now I
- 1:10:37imagine that they're like in an, like a iceberg glacier somewhere, you know?
- 1:10:41Yeah.
- 1:10:41Bjork had to find your diarrhea draws.
- 1:10:44Yeah.
- 1:10:44Yeah.
- 1:10:44I hope so.
- 1:10:44That's the dream.
- 1:10:45That's what I would ideally like, or like Ciro or some, you know, some band,
- 1:10:49but I don't, I think it's just probably in like a glacier, like a frozen.
- 1:10:54Oh, it's kind of like wa it's kind of like the mosquito in Jurassic Park.
- 1:10:58Like frozen in time.
- 1:11:01In a, in a, yeah.
- 1:11:01Yeah.
- 1:11:02In a block of ice.
- 1:11:03Which is really kind of beautiful in a way.
- 1:11:05Probably the most beautiful place to shit your parents.
- 1:11:07It was very pretty there.
- 1:11:08It's better than a rock venue.
- 1:11:10It was like puffins.
- 1:11:11Yeah.
- 1:11:12Yeah.
- 1:11:12I love it.
- 1:11:13Shout out Bjork.
- 1:11:14Shout out diarrhea.
- 1:11:15Shout out Bjork.

- 1:11:34Yeah.
- 1:11:34She's so friendly.
- 1:11:35That was so nice of her.
- 1:11:36Uh, special guest on the podcast.

- 1:11:52This was very good.
- 1:11:53I'm gonna stop this now.
- 1:11:59And that was my rambling and somewhat intoxicated conversation with Jack

- 1:13:24Leave a message there and I will probably play it on the air as seems appropriate.
- 1:13:30I'm going to end this episode with a Charles Bukowski poem.
- 1:13:35If you're going to try, go all the way.
- 1:13:38Otherwise don't even start.
- 1:13:40This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives, and maybe even your mind.
- 1:13:46It could mean not eating for three or four days.
- 1:13:48It could mean freezing on a park bench.
- 1:13:50It could mean jail.
- 1:13:51It could mean derision.
- 1:13:53It could mean mockery.
- 1:13:54Isolation.
- 1:13:56Isolation is a gift.
- 1:13:58All the others are a test of your endurance of how much you really want to
- 1:14:01do it, and you'll do it despite rejection and the worst odds, and it'll be better
- 1:14:07than anything else you can imagine.
- 1:14:10If you're going to try, go all the way, there is no other feeling like that.
- 1:14:15You'll be alone with the gods and the knights will flame with fire.
- 1:14:19You will ride life straight to perfect laughter.
- 1:14:22It's the only good fight there is.
- 1:14:26I'll see you next week.
- 1:14:27Very good, Jeffrey.
