- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Now here's your host, NASA Chobe.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk, the Seahawks getting
- 0:14Speaker 1: ready to travel across the country to take on the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers. Michael Bumpus, you lose Week one, sweet two,
- 0:20Speaker 1: We've come about that.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Wednesday. Move forward.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Once you get to Wednesday, you put the week Thursday.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Now we're getting ready for this game. So I'm excited, bump.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of cool things the Seahawks
- 0:29Speaker 1: have going that we talked about in the recap pod
- 0:31Speaker 1: of where this team can go, what they can get to,
- 0:33Speaker 1: get on track, get to one another, because that's what
- 0:36Speaker 1: we look for every week, and we're gonna jump right
- 0:38Speaker 1: into it. Waste no more time because those Pittsburgh Steelers
- 0:41Speaker 1: are what's on tap?
- 0:42Speaker 2: What's on tap one?
- 0:44Speaker 1: And oh type for first place in the AFC North.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Bump They had a who else want to know? Bengals
- 0:50Speaker 1: won right, Yes, in a really ugly games getting to
- 0:54Speaker 1: Cleveland rownds. Yeah, so yeah, they're they're yeah, they're tired.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So but the Steelers and the Jets had it was
- 1:01Speaker 1: a football game. It was I was not expected to
- 1:03Speaker 1: see that. It was honestly kind of a revenge game
- 1:05Speaker 1: for both quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers going back to play New
- 1:07Speaker 1: York justin Fields, obviously playing his former team in Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Rogers made his infamous return to MetLife Stadium, and he
- 1:15Speaker 1: turned back the clock.
- 1:16Speaker 3: It sure did.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I didn't think Rogers was done by any means, but
- 1:21Speaker 1: I didn't expect him to look as good as he
- 1:22Speaker 1: did through all four touchdown passes in the second half,
- 1:25Speaker 1: including two in a span of fifty seconds, helping the
- 1:27Speaker 1: Steelers pull out a thirty four to thirty two victory.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Rogers said after the game, I was happy to beat
- 1:33Speaker 1: everybody associated with the Jets, Rogers said. When asked if
- 1:36Speaker 1: he was pleased to be Glenn, he said, I gave
- 1:38Speaker 1: as much as I could do that team. I didn't
- 1:40Speaker 1: have any hard feelings about it not working out. It
- 1:43Speaker 1: didn't maybe appreciate the way it went down in the end,
- 1:45Speaker 1: but that's in the past. But man, I was happy
- 1:48Speaker 1: to beat everyone associated with it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: So shitty. He talked about your mom, who likes the Jets, your.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Grandma, anybody you like the Jets, He's done with you.
- 1:57Speaker 4: But the game started off with five shakes, scoring drives,
- 2:00Speaker 4: and scoring drives on seven of nine in the first
- 2:04Speaker 4: half possessions.
- 2:05Speaker 3: That means they were lighting up the scoreboard. That was
- 2:07Speaker 3: fun to watch.
- 2:08Speaker 4: We're doing the pregame show and I'm looking behind me,
- 2:10Speaker 4: and every time I look, Breeze Hall's going crazy or
- 2:12Speaker 4: there's a score going on.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So it was exciting.
- 2:15Speaker 4: In the third quarter of the Jet jumped out to
- 2:17Speaker 4: a twenty six to seventeen league Rogers and the Steelers
- 2:20Speaker 4: we responding with a nine plays sixty eight yard drive
- 2:22Speaker 4: ending with a touchdown to Jalen Warren. Got the run
- 2:26Speaker 4: game going there.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Jalen Warren.
- 2:28Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about him a lot because they've completely
- 2:31Speaker 1: changed the running back room and Warren he's a really
- 2:33Speaker 1: cool story. So I like what we saw from him.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But man, that game got into it afterwards, justin fields.
- 2:40Speaker 1: He came down with a twelve play sixty seven yard drive,
- 2:42Speaker 1: capping out with a one year touchdown. He made the
- 2:44Speaker 1: score thirty two thirty one back to back punts. The
- 2:46Speaker 1: Steelers would take the lead for good with a Chris
- 2:49Speaker 1: Boswell sixty yard field goal, Tang sixty yards, And I
- 2:54Speaker 1: love what Tomlin said after the game. He said, Man,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I can't say enough about the boss. Our kicker is
- 2:58Speaker 1: a serial killer in the nicest way possible. Yeah, if
- 3:01Speaker 1: you can do that, Yeah, I guess I'll take it
- 3:04Speaker 1: as but Toman calls me, SERI, I'll take it. Rogers
- 3:07Speaker 1: finish today twenty two to thirty, two hundred and forty
- 3:08Speaker 1: four yards, four touchdown, zero interceptions. Former Seahawk DK Metcalf,
- 3:12Speaker 1: who we will also talk about, lead the Steelers with
- 3:14Speaker 1: four receptions in eighty three yards justin fields sixteen to
- 3:18Speaker 1: twenty two two eighteen, one touchdown and Brees Hall ran
- 3:20Speaker 1: for over one hundred yards and Garrett had the one
- 3:23Speaker 1: touchdown on ninety five yard and seven receptions.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it was nice to see DK.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Watch the film on this guy and he's getting that
- 3:31Speaker 4: yacked that yard after the catch and throw a screen
- 3:34Speaker 4: to him. He turns it up field for twenty five,
- 3:35Speaker 4: a little hitch to him, turns it outside for another thirty.
- 3:38Speaker 3: He looks good at that offense.
- 3:39Speaker 4: And I think the way they approached the DK experiment
- 3:42Speaker 4: was good. To drop this first pass going across the middle.
- 3:45Speaker 4: But you know, you gotta you gotta stay with DK
- 3:47Speaker 4: because he's gonna make big plays, so good for them,
- 3:49Speaker 4: Good for DK.
- 3:50Speaker 3: But now it's time to get active.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, no, we're gonna talk about DK as well.
- 3:54Speaker 1: That matchup's gonna really fun because our guys have played
- 3:56Speaker 1: a lot of football against DK over the year, so
- 3:58Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun. Look him at the head matchup
- 4:00Speaker 1: me and you're gonna talk about this a lot. It's
- 4:02Speaker 1: really hard to glean a ton from the head to
- 4:04Speaker 1: head matchup this early on in the season, just for
- 4:06Speaker 1: one game, but will take a look anyway. Offensively, the
- 4:09Speaker 1: Seahawks came in at twenty ninth through one week at
- 4:12Speaker 1: two hundred thirty yards in the first game eighty four
- 4:14Speaker 1: yards rushing That was twentieth. Pass offense one hundred and
- 4:17Speaker 1: forty six yards is twenty fifth, and points per game
- 4:19Speaker 1: thirteen tied for twenty fourth. Obviously not the numbers you're
- 4:22Speaker 1: hoping to see. That'll happen you score thirteen points on
- 4:25Speaker 1: the flip side of the Steelers twenty first in total
- 4:27Speaker 1: offense with two hundred and seventy one yards fifty to
- 4:29Speaker 1: twenty ninth in rushing only fifty three yards against those
- 4:33Speaker 1: Jets two hundred and eighteen yards passing. That's eleventh of
- 4:36Speaker 1: the NFL, and thirty four points. That was third in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the NFL. Obviously, Steelers scored more points, had more possessions,
- 4:43Speaker 1: had more plays in that first game. This is not
- 4:45Speaker 1: indicative I mentioned it. We're just going through the numbers
- 4:47Speaker 1: as they were in that first game. But I expect
- 4:49Speaker 1: every single one of those numbers for the Seahawks to
- 4:51Speaker 1: take a little uptick.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it take a little bump, a little bump.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But let's talk about the defense of total yards giving up.
- 4:56Speaker 4: The Hawks were twenty fifth, gave up three hundred and
- 4:58Speaker 4: eighty four yards against the forty nine Ers rush defense
- 5:01Speaker 4: one hundred and nineteen yards given up. That puts him
- 5:03Speaker 4: at twenty first. Pass defense two sixty five given him up.
- 5:07Speaker 4: That gives them the spot of twenty six. On the
- 5:09Speaker 4: other side, you got the Steelers the twenty seventh when
- 5:12Speaker 4: it comes to total offense, twenty eighth against the rush
- 5:14Speaker 4: and twentieth against the pass, and twenty eighth when it
- 5:16Speaker 4: comes to give up points. Thirty two points will do
- 5:19Speaker 4: that to you. Hawks had an interception, two interceptions, Steelers
- 5:23Speaker 4: had none. Hawks had what one sack, and the Steelers
- 5:28Speaker 4: had won as well.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Julian Love got that sack off of Blitz almost.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I mean, obviously one sack is what it was. But
- 5:36Speaker 1: the Seahawks pressured brought perty more than he's ever had
- 5:39Speaker 1: in his career fifty seven percent of the time. So
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Seahawks front seven was getting home. Now, they just
- 5:43Speaker 1: got to get the sacks. They got the pressure. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: believe Trent Williams gave up the most pressure he's allowed
- 5:48Speaker 1: as a forty nine er, which is a lot, because
- 5:50Speaker 1: I say he's one of the best in the league.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So Seahwks are doing it up front.
- 5:52Speaker 1: We'll see if they can make change in those sack numbers.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But the Seahawks have played the Steelers a couple times
- 5:58Speaker 1: over the last few years.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Let's know that history. No, your history steels with the all.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Time series eleven to ten in our one to zero
- 6:06Speaker 1: in the postseason. Obviously, we we'll talk about that nonsense.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Last time these two matched up, though, it was a
- 6:11Speaker 1: rough day for the office of the Seahawks. I was
- 6:12Speaker 1: Week seventeen, if you remember, in the twenty twenty three season.
- 6:15Speaker 1: At the time, the Seahawks were control of their own destiny,
- 6:18Speaker 1: but needed to win their last two games to get
- 6:19Speaker 1: into the playoffs. But if you remember Bump, that was
- 6:22Speaker 1: the time the Seahawks were really struggling stop in the run.
- 6:25Speaker 1: They allowed two hundred and two yards on the ground,
- 6:27Speaker 1: gave up four hundred and sixty eight yards of total offense,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and that year that was the sixth straight opponent who
- 6:31Speaker 1: ran for at least one hundred and thirty five yards.
- 6:34Speaker 2: It was tough.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Naji Hears one hundred and twenty seven yards and twenty
- 6:37Speaker 1: seven carries, two touchdowns. Jalen Warren, who will see had
- 6:40Speaker 1: seventy five yards on thirteen carries and one touchdown. DK
- 6:44Speaker 1: Metcalf led the way with one hundred and six yards
- 6:46Speaker 1: on five receptions. It was a bad day, but thankfully
- 6:49Speaker 1: that feels like such a distant memory with the guys
- 6:52Speaker 1: on this football team. And I would be willing to
- 6:55Speaker 1: bet my house in my mortgage at the Seahawks will
- 6:58Speaker 1: not give up two hundred two yards on the ground
- 7:00Speaker 1: and four hundred and sixty eight yards to little offense.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I feel that confident about it. Hey, text wifey now,
- 7:05Speaker 4: let her know what you just did.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, sign for that. No, but that was history.
- 7:11Speaker 1: That was That was, like I said, a tough day
- 7:12Speaker 1: against the Steelers. The last two games have been brough ones.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Back in twenty one. You remember Sunday Night Football. Last
- 7:18Speaker 1: time we were in Pittsburgh went to overtime. T J
- 7:20Speaker 1: Watt won that game on a strip sack. So obviously
- 7:23Speaker 1: hoping the Seahawks can turn back the clock to a
- 7:25Speaker 1: little better time down there in Pittsburgh. But let's check
- 7:28Speaker 1: in on the rest of the NFC West. What's the
- 7:30Speaker 1: word and.
- 7:35Speaker 3: The Seahawks or the NFC West champs?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Again, what's the word in the West? On Hawk talk?
- 7:42Speaker 3: What's the word? Hawks?
- 7:44Speaker 4: At the bottom of the division. But it's only one week,
- 7:46Speaker 4: all right? Niners one obviously, Cardinals won and the Rams won.
- 7:50Speaker 4: The season obviously just started in the standings being nothing
- 7:53Speaker 4: after week one. With that being said, it was about
- 7:55Speaker 4: as bad as a week as there can be. The
- 7:57Speaker 4: Hawks lost a game within the division to the Niners
- 8:00Speaker 4: and then the Cardinals and Rams were also winners. Let's
- 8:03Speaker 4: talk about the Texas and the Rams. Low scoring game
- 8:06Speaker 4: this one Nas. The game was a low scoring battle
- 8:08Speaker 4: that was ugly at times with the scoring happening with
- 8:12Speaker 4: Davis Allen touchdown with twelve twenty eight left in the
- 8:14Speaker 4: third quarter that made the score fourteen to nine. The
- 8:17Speaker 4: rest of the game possessions will go as follows. Interception, hunt, hunt, punt, hunt, humble, fumble.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Not an exciting game if you're looking for scores there,
- 8:27Speaker 4: nass No.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I mean when the last score in the games with
- 8:29Speaker 1: twelve twenty eight left in the third quarter, that's tough.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I mean, granted, I'm a former defensive guy. I like
- 8:34Speaker 1: defense so to a point, right, But c J Stroud
- 8:38Speaker 1: it was a close game though. With game on the line,
- 8:40Speaker 1: he went eight plays fifty seven yards, get some right
- 8:42Speaker 1: there up on the doorstep of the red zone, but
- 8:45Speaker 1: unfortunately dier ungab Walle fumble the football. Nate Ladman punched
- 8:51Speaker 1: it out, securing the victory for the Rams. Matthew Stafford,
- 8:54Speaker 1: he encouraged his Hall of Fame resume, honestly, joining the
- 8:59Speaker 1: sixth sixty thousand yards passing club finished the day twenty
- 9:02Speaker 1: one to twenty nine, two hundred and forty five yards
- 9:04Speaker 1: in one touchdown, tenth person only to reach sixty thousand yards.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. We've talked about this a lot about
- 9:11Speaker 1: Matthew Safford. Back and forth they say the Hall of
- 9:13Speaker 1: Fame or is he not? I think we both kind
- 9:15Speaker 1: of leaned towards yes, given the Super Bowl that he won.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But increasing that resume, Kyle Williams on the ground, he
- 9:21Speaker 1: had sixty six yards on eighteen carries and a touchdown.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And Pookinakuh who went crazy ten receptions, one hundred and
- 9:27Speaker 1: thirty yards. But did you see him come back to
- 9:29Speaker 1: the game after he got his helmet knocked off? He
- 9:31Speaker 1: had that big gash in his head.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I didn't see that.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. Yeah, no, he was a savage for that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Came right back.
- 9:35Speaker 1: He had blood running all down, got stitches, came back
- 9:38Speaker 1: and still got after the Houston Texans on fulp side
- 9:40Speaker 1: CD Stroud nineteen to twenty seven, one eighty eight, zero touchdowns,
- 9:44Speaker 1: one interception, the Rams taking on the Titans on Sunday.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yeah, the next matchup, you have the Cardinals at the Saints.
- 9:51Speaker 4: The Cardinals went down to New Orleans and held on
- 9:53Speaker 4: for a close twenty to thirteen win and ruined the
- 9:56Speaker 4: debut of New Saints head coach Kellen Moore. You know,
- 10:00Speaker 4: you know it's gonna be tough for the Saints. Man
- 10:02Speaker 4: Kellen Moore, God, bless your heart. Get those guys. Roster
- 10:04Speaker 4: Tosser e man, he's doing his thing down by a touchdown.
- 10:07Speaker 4: The Saints got the ball back with a minute forty
- 10:09Speaker 4: nine left in the game. Spencer Raler led them down
- 10:12Speaker 4: the field to the Cardinals twenty four yard line, but
- 10:15Speaker 4: after four incomplete passes, the Cardinals turned the ball over
- 10:17Speaker 4: on downs and that was the end of the game.
- 10:20Speaker 4: The Saints tight end Drawn Johnson had both hands on
- 10:23Speaker 4: a potential tying catch of the goal line in the
- 10:25Speaker 4: final seconds, but safeties Booda Baker and Jalen Thompson knocked
- 10:28Speaker 4: that thing out.
- 10:29Speaker 3: That was a.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Beautifully placed ball too. Yeah yeah, So you put it
- 10:32Speaker 4: right where only his guy can get it. Gave himself
- 10:34Speaker 4: an opportunity, couldn't get it done. That's a tough one.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Kyler Murray finished the day twenty one to twenty nine
- 10:39Speaker 4: for one to sixty three and two touchdowns. Marvin Harrison
- 10:41Speaker 4: Junior had five for seventy one in a touchdown.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Spencer was twenty seven for forty seven.
- 10:46Speaker 4: It's gonna be twenty seven for forty six two fourteen
- 10:49Speaker 4: zero touchdowns, zero interceptions and Kamar had fifty seven total
- 10:52Speaker 4: yards in one touchdown. The Cardinals host the Panthers next week,
- 10:55Speaker 4: and the Saints host the forty nine ers.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So the Cardinals great road, right, we'll call it like
- 11:01Speaker 1: what it was, but the Saints said every opportunity. I
- 11:04Speaker 1: actually thought Spencer Radler played okay. You know, I think
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of people have made their feelings known about
- 11:10Speaker 1: Spencer Radler just from his Netflix show like ten years ago,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and I think he's still paying for that unfortunately.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But no, he played well. The Cardinals.
- 11:19Speaker 1: They get a road victory, and it'll be interesting to
- 11:22Speaker 1: see about the forty nine ers. Obviously we know what
- 11:23Speaker 1: happened in their game against the Seahawks, but they're banged
- 11:25Speaker 1: up both. Purty looks like he's at for a couple
- 11:28Speaker 1: of weeks. Jennings is dealing with some stuff Kittle on
- 11:30Speaker 1: the IR and again, I think when you look at
- 11:34Speaker 1: that game, obviously you're not hoping for injuries. But I
- 11:38Speaker 1: think we look at it you saying this is a physical,
- 11:40Speaker 1: physical football team, right right. The forty nine Ers came
- 11:42Speaker 1: out of there with a victory, but limping around after
- 11:45Speaker 1: the game, it's just showing that, like between both those teams.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That's a physical matchup. That's how those games are played,
- 11:50Speaker 1: and that's kind of the toll you play playing in
- 11:52Speaker 1: the NFC West.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But we will turn.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Our attention back to those Steelers. Manu hey, who you got.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Who you got?
- 11:59Speaker 2: You know what time it is?
- 12:00Speaker 3: Man up, man up, brother, man up, man up.
- 12:02Speaker 2: On Hawk Talk like we always do. We started with
- 12:05Speaker 2: the quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers.
- 12:07Speaker 1: We briefly talked about get go on the Seahawks defense
- 12:10Speaker 1: from twenty five to twenty twenty two. Aaron Rodgers put
- 12:13Speaker 1: together a Hall of Fame career with the Packers. There's
- 12:16Speaker 1: no doubt about that. He made the Pro Bowl ten times,
- 12:18Speaker 1: four time MVP, four time All Pro, Super Bowl Champ,
- 12:21Speaker 1: Super Bowl MVP. His stats, he's thrown for just as
- 12:25Speaker 1: just with the Packers five thousand and one for seven thousand,
- 12:29Speaker 1: six hundred and sixty fifty nine thousand and fifty five yards,
- 12:32Speaker 1: four hundred and seventy five touchdowns, one hundred and five interceptions,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and a record of one forty seven, seventy five and
- 12:38Speaker 1: one in the regular season. So that's a Hall of
- 12:42Speaker 1: Fame career resume right there.
- 12:43Speaker 3: See that on paper is kind of crazy. Yes, that's
- 12:46Speaker 3: kind of crazy.
- 12:47Speaker 1: However you feel about him personally, he is a Hall
- 12:49Speaker 1: of Fame quarterback, yes, sure, but obviously since he's left
- 12:53Speaker 1: Green Bay has not always been greener. On the other side,
- 12:57Speaker 1: he's definitely struggled. Four snaps in to the twenty twenty
- 13:00Speaker 1: three season, BLEU's achilles done whole year. Everything Jets leading
- 13:05Speaker 1: up to that twenty twenty three is gone came back
- 13:07Speaker 1: last season. When you look at the numbers, they're not
- 13:09Speaker 1: as bad as you would think, given the team was
- 13:10Speaker 1: five and twelve. He was three sixty eight for five
- 13:12Speaker 1: to eighty four, three eight and ninety seven yards, twenty
- 13:15Speaker 1: eight touchdowns, eleven interceptions, but was sacked forty different times.
- 13:20Speaker 1: His Steelers ab we mentioned he turned back the clock,
- 13:22Speaker 1: going twenty two to thirty two forty four four touchdowns
- 13:25Speaker 1: to one interception, shows like he's got some stuff in tank.
- 13:29Speaker 1: It's gonna be tough challenge for the Seahawks, but the
- 13:31Speaker 1: Jets were able to sack Rogers four times, so I'm
- 13:33Speaker 1: hoping the Seahawks can build off of that. I mentioned
- 13:36Speaker 1: it earlier. The Seahawks defense got after brock party prussuring
- 13:39Speaker 1: him fifty seven percent of time. That was the most
- 13:40Speaker 1: he had ever been pressured. And so I'm I'm looking forward.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I'm optimistic to what the Seahawks can do to bring
- 13:46Speaker 1: pressure against Aaron Rodgers, because you're gonna need to because
- 13:49Speaker 1: if you give him time back during the pocket, he
- 13:51Speaker 1: can dice you up and make you look bad. And honestly,
- 13:54Speaker 1: the snap counts another thing. Man, He's the best in
- 13:56Speaker 1: the game at drawing people outside. So Aaron Rodgers can
- 13:59Speaker 1: still play and he will definitely be a challenge for
- 14:01Speaker 1: these Seahawks.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Man, he can still throw that thing. He can work
- 14:05Speaker 4: from the pocket. He's got good eyes, he knows the game,
- 14:07Speaker 4: so get after him. Create some pressure. Let's talk about
- 14:09Speaker 4: an our quarterback, Sam Donald against the Steelers defense. Sam
- 14:13Speaker 4: Darnald made his much anticipated debut for the Seahawks first
- 14:17Speaker 4: the forty nine Ers. He was an efficient sixteen to
- 14:19Speaker 4: twenty three that's sixty nine percent for one fifty and
- 14:21Speaker 4: a QB rating of eighty seven point two. He did
- 14:24Speaker 4: not throw any touchdowns, but he also took care of
- 14:26Speaker 4: the football with no interceptions. Heklach might be down and
- 14:29Speaker 4: said this about Sam Donald's performance. I thought he played fast.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I thought he played decisive, took care of the ball.
- 14:34Speaker 4: He put us in a lot of great positions, but unfortunately,
- 14:36Speaker 4: let's go close it out. He's talking about that fumble
- 14:39Speaker 4: at the end of the game where he got some pressure,
- 14:41Speaker 4: was looking for K nine in the flat.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Just not able to do it.
- 14:44Speaker 4: The Seahawks only ran fifty plays against the forty nine
- 14:47Speaker 4: ers and we're three of ten on third downs. That's
- 14:51Speaker 4: not gonna get her done. Three or ten on third downs.
- 14:52Speaker 4: He got to be able to keep these drives going.
- 14:55Speaker 4: They were not able to do it. So it'll be
- 14:57Speaker 4: interesting to see what Sam Donald does against these guys
- 14:59Speaker 4: when he gets more opportunity, more plays, and this be
- 15:03Speaker 4: this decisive guy that we saw last week, and he
- 15:05Speaker 4: should be okay.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if you don't come up in third
- 15:07Speaker 1: and long situations, staying on the field, it's a lot.
- 15:10Speaker 1: You know, how do you improve third down? You're better
- 15:12Speaker 1: in first and second. Now, I think that's that's the
- 15:14Speaker 1: main thing. Last year, the Steelers were twelfth in total defense,
- 15:17Speaker 1: twenty fifth against the pass. Last week against the Jets
- 15:20Speaker 1: out three hundred niney four yards two hundred and twelve
- 15:23Speaker 1: through the air. Now, I mentioned Jalen Warren who the
- 15:27Speaker 1: Steelers have a complete remake of their running back room.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Warren has been on the team. This is going to
- 15:32Speaker 1: his fourth season, but the Steelers did say goodbye to
- 15:34Speaker 1: Najie Harris, who was a former first round pick at Alabama.
- 15:37Speaker 1: They're starting running back. He had four straight seasons with
- 15:40Speaker 1: a thousand yards for them, so he was incredibly productive.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But the Steelers decided they were going to commit to
- 15:45Speaker 1: Warren and who signed a two year extension with a
- 15:47Speaker 1: team coming out of training camp. Really cool thing. I
- 15:50Speaker 1: played small college football, so I always love different stories
- 15:53Speaker 1: and where Warren has come from. To go from junior
- 15:55Speaker 1: college in Utah where he was the NJCA National Offensive
- 15:59Speaker 1: Player of the Year. Then he transfers to Utah State
- 16:01Speaker 1: where he played for two seasons before transciting to Oklahoma State.
- 16:05Speaker 1: We're he had twelve one hundred yards eleven touchdowns as
- 16:07Speaker 1: a fifty year senior, signs with the Steers as undrafted
- 16:10Speaker 1: free agent, and then now obviously here is getting an
- 16:12Speaker 1: extension and is the guy in Pittsburgh. So definitely a
- 16:15Speaker 1: cool story. You root for him there, but he's a
- 16:18Speaker 1: good football player, bump. He is someone that the Seahawks
- 16:20Speaker 1: are definitely gonna need to contain. I think defensively, the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Seahawks did a good job against probably one of the
- 16:25Speaker 1: best running backs in the league last week with Christian McCaffrey.
- 16:28Speaker 1: McCaffrey didn't he had some plays obviously with McCaffrey's tough
- 16:31Speaker 1: because he's receiving and running the football, so he's kind
- 16:33Speaker 1: of a total package in terms of trying to stop him.
- 16:36Speaker 1: But Warren is a guy that you know, given what
- 16:39Speaker 1: the Seahaws did against McCaffrey and the Niners, holding him
- 16:42Speaker 1: a three point six yards per carry, I'm hoping that
- 16:44Speaker 1: they that can continue this week because he's a good
- 16:46Speaker 1: football player.
- 16:47Speaker 4: He's a big boy man at Warren Warrener is a
- 16:49Speaker 4: big running back, So wrap him up, get him down
- 16:51Speaker 4: to the ground.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Let's talk about our running backs.
- 16:53Speaker 4: You know, the running game was gonna be an emphasis
- 16:55Speaker 4: for the squad this year, but the Hawks rush for
- 16:58Speaker 4: eighty four yards on twenty six carres. You I wanted
- 17:00Speaker 4: to see more out of that, but it's all good.
- 17:02Speaker 4: They can improve, but there was some balance to the
- 17:04Speaker 4: game as well. Sharbonnet had twelve carries for forty seven
- 17:07Speaker 4: yards and the touchdown Walker had ten carries for twenty yards.
- 17:10Speaker 3: You expect these guys to perform a bit better.
- 17:12Speaker 4: I think once they get the flow of this offense,
- 17:15Speaker 4: offensive lineman play a little better. Combined with the vision,
- 17:17Speaker 4: they should be okay. In twenty twenty four, Walker rush
- 17:20Speaker 4: for one hundred and fifty three carries, five hundred and
- 17:23Speaker 4: seventy three yards and seven touchdowns.
- 17:25Speaker 3: He did miss a few games.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Sharbonne had one hundred and thirty five carries for five
- 17:29Speaker 4: sixty nine and eight touchdowns. So I'm hoping the Seahogs
- 17:33Speaker 4: will really find their run game against the Steelers. They
- 17:35Speaker 4: struggled a bunch against the Jets last week. They allowed
- 17:38Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty two rushing yards on thirty nine
- 17:40Speaker 4: Carris given a four point seven per carry. Breise Hall
- 17:44Speaker 4: had one hundred and seven yards on nineteen carries. We're
- 17:46Speaker 4: hoping Walker and Sharvion name have similar success.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I mean that's a lot of yards, and you wouldn't
- 17:52Speaker 1: think that because I think we were talking about this.
- 17:54Speaker 1: I think this was on the Insiders podcast earlier. But
- 17:56Speaker 1: when you think Steelers, you associate them with defense. Mike Tomlin,
- 17:59Speaker 1: you think defense when you think Steelers, you don't think
- 18:01Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty two yards on the ground, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: that's I think this could be a perfect storm for
- 18:06Speaker 1: the Seahawks get their run game on track because we
- 18:08Speaker 1: know that's what Glinn Kubiak wants to do. We know
- 18:10Speaker 1: what this team wants to do, and they're built for it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: This is just they're close, right. I think this might
- 18:15Speaker 1: be a good opportunity for the Seahawks to get that
- 18:17Speaker 1: done this week. And we got to talk about an
- 18:20Speaker 1: old friend, old friend, an old friend, Dk Metcalf for
- 18:25Speaker 1: the past six seasons. When we're talking about Dk Metcalf,
- 18:29Speaker 1: if his name was on one of our sheets, it's
- 18:30Speaker 1: because it was notes about where he ranked in the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Seahawks history, usually the fastest to whatever you want to
- 18:36Speaker 1: call it. He's essentially, you know, up there in the
- 18:38Speaker 1: record books only behind see large and Tyle Lockett is
- 18:41Speaker 1: the fastest to do anything in this in a Seahawks uniform.
- 18:44Speaker 1: He still holds a single season record for receiving yards
- 18:47Speaker 1: at one three hundred three yards, which he set back
- 18:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. I think Jay Sen is gonna break
- 18:52Speaker 1: that this year.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Bump. So that's a hot take. We can check the
- 18:55Speaker 2: tape later in the year. If I'm right on that.
- 18:57Speaker 2: If I'm not, we'll just ignore it.
- 18:59Speaker 1: You never said it, but Metcalf, you can't deny his
- 19:02Speaker 1: success in Seattle four one hundred and thirty eight receptions,
- 19:05Speaker 1: six three and twenty four yards, forty eight touchdowns, also
- 19:08Speaker 1: a two time Pro bowler I think one year is
- 19:10Speaker 1: also second team All Pro. And now Metcalf's got another
- 19:14Speaker 1: dude throwing the ball, Aaron Rodgers in his debut four
- 19:16Speaker 1: receptions for eighty three yards and just hearing stuff coming
- 19:19Speaker 1: out of Pittsburgh. He's going to try to treat this
- 19:22Speaker 1: like any other game. Of course, what you what else
- 19:24Speaker 1: is he gonna say?
- 19:24Speaker 2: What you gotta say?
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's hard, of course it's gonna be hard. There's emotions
- 19:27Speaker 1: in the game. This organization took a chance on DK Metcalf,
- 19:31Speaker 1: everyone thought some people thought that was were reaching the
- 19:33Speaker 1: second round, and obviously DK proved how good of a
- 19:35Speaker 1: football player he was and how much he meant to
- 19:37Speaker 1: this organization over the years. So it'll be interesting to
- 19:39Speaker 1: see how that matchup goes. And then lining up alongside
- 19:42Speaker 1: DK is Calvin Austin the third thirty season out of Memphis,
- 19:46Speaker 1: former fourth round pick. He's coming off his best season
- 19:49Speaker 1: last year. We had thirty six receptions five hundred and
- 19:51Speaker 1: forty eight yards in four touchdowns five to nine hundred
- 19:54Speaker 1: and sixty two pounds. But he's explosive and he's a
- 19:57Speaker 1: home run threat every time he touches the football. He's
- 19:59Speaker 1: dangerous the slot. They'll move him around, and he's a
- 20:01Speaker 1: really good football player as well.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Yeah, man, they got some options over there, and what
- 20:05Speaker 4: they do is they hit these guys underneath. They're not
- 20:08Speaker 4: throwing the football down the field very far. They're getting
- 20:10Speaker 4: DK the ball quickly. Talk about Colin Austin, They're getting
- 20:12Speaker 4: him the ball quickly. So they got some options over there.
- 20:15Speaker 4: And Arthur Smith is doing a good job designing this
- 20:17Speaker 4: offense to fit Aaron Rodgers or honestly, Aaron Rodgers just
- 20:21Speaker 4: fitting into the design of Arthur Smith offense. So yeah, man,
- 20:25Speaker 4: they got some options. And guys like Reek Spoon love Kobe.
- 20:30Speaker 4: They practice against DK, so they know some of his habits.
- 20:32Speaker 4: They can pick up all some tailtale signs and hopefully
- 20:35Speaker 4: help these guys out.
- 20:36Speaker 3: So we'll see how that matchup goes.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Let's talk about JSN Cooper Cup against Ramsey, Darius Slay
- 20:41Speaker 4: and Joey Porter Junior, the second Porter to.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 20:46Speaker 4: JSN has continued to establish himself as the number one
- 20:49Speaker 4: guy in Seattle when it comes to that receiver room.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And he had a good game against the forty nine ers.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Nine receptions fo one hundred and twenty four yards on
- 20:57Speaker 4: thirteen targets.
- 20:58Speaker 3: That was his fourth one hundred yard game.
- 20:59Speaker 4: If it feels like he's had more than just four
- 21:01Speaker 4: of them things, But you know what, you're the stat guy.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Stats don't live. It was his fourth one.
- 21:07Speaker 4: His one hundred and twenty four yards were third most
- 21:09Speaker 4: in the NFL through Week one. In fact, according to
- 21:12Speaker 4: NFL next Gen Stats, Smith and Jabu coounted for ninety
- 21:15Speaker 4: one percent of the Seahawks air yards in a game,
- 21:17Speaker 4: the sixth highest air yard chair by a receiver in
- 21:20Speaker 4: a game since at least twenty sixteen. So what you're
- 21:23Speaker 4: saying is, whenever the ball was thrown and there was
- 21:25Speaker 4: a completion and there was some yards, it was probably
- 21:27Speaker 4: from Json.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 1: No, I mean, coach McDonald said it can't be the
- 21:31Speaker 1: Jack show. We want to spread that along. But that
- 21:34Speaker 1: being said, he's performing for a reason. And coach also
- 21:38Speaker 1: said those were the right place to make Sam. It's
- 21:40Speaker 1: not like Sam was forcing it in there. JSN was
- 21:42Speaker 1: open and he got in the football.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:44Speaker 4: And now we need Cooper Cup right, he didn't have
- 21:46Speaker 4: a real productive day. He was on the field forty
- 21:48Speaker 4: six snaps as eighty eight percent of the stats, but
- 21:51Speaker 4: was only targeted three times. He drove a pass in aparence,
- 21:54Speaker 4: but only had two receptions for fifteen yards.
- 21:57Speaker 3: So there's a reason why that happens sometimes.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Then, like you mentioned, you got your quarterback who's just
- 22:02Speaker 4: going through his reeds and if you're open, you're open,
- 22:05Speaker 4: and receivers we depend on a lot to get.
- 22:08Speaker 3: The football right.
- 22:09Speaker 4: The quarterback first snap the football, all line for tags,
- 22:12Speaker 4: quarterback drops, the right covers for your route, you go
- 22:15Speaker 4: through your progression, then you get the football.
- 22:18Speaker 3: So I feel it's pain because I've been a receiver.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I was gonna say he's ran fifty sixty routes and
- 22:23Speaker 4: then touch that ball one time. So Cooper Cup, you
- 22:26Speaker 4: hang in there, man, you hang in there. But they're
- 22:28Speaker 4: going up against one of the best dbs of the
- 22:31Speaker 4: last generation in Jalen Ramsey.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Yeah Ramsey, I mean I don't think he's a player.
- 22:36Speaker 1: He wasn't necessarily in Jacksonville or in the Rams won
- 22:38Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, but he can still play. I think
- 22:40Speaker 1: that was evident on the last play against the Jets
- 22:42Speaker 1: where he kind of broke up that play with Garret
- 22:44Speaker 1: Wilson there to kind of seal the deal with the
- 22:47Speaker 1: essentially a game winning pass breakup. But Ramsey's a dog.
- 22:50Speaker 1: His resume speaks for herself. Seven time Pro Bowler, three
- 22:53Speaker 1: time first seam All Pro. His last Pro Bowl season
- 22:55Speaker 1: was in twenty twenty three. Last year, he had sixty tackles,
- 22:58Speaker 1: eleven pass defend and two in or seven fins, two sacks,
- 23:01Speaker 1: six TFLs and four QB hits. So he's still productive. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 1: no question about it. Then you got Darius Slay. I mean,
- 23:07Speaker 1: this is a veteran secondary. Got to be the most
- 23:10Speaker 1: veteran secondary in National Football League. Darius Slay adds thirteen
- 23:13Speaker 1: NFL seasons and he's a six nine Pro Bowler, one
- 23:15Speaker 1: time first team All Pro, Super Bowl champion in Philly.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Spent his first seven years in Detroit. In the last
- 23:21Speaker 1: five years in Philly before coming to Pittsburgh twenty twenty four,
- 23:24Speaker 1: he had forty nine tackles thirteen passes defended, one fourth fumble,
- 23:27Speaker 1: one fumble recovery in three TFLs.
- 23:30Speaker 4: And then you got the youngster Joey Porter Junior, the
- 23:33Speaker 4: son of longtime still a linebacker, Joey Porter.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Porter was a starter from day one.
- 23:38Speaker 4: He was the first pick of the second round in
- 23:40Speaker 4: twenty twenty three and he's day to day with a
- 23:43Speaker 4: hamstring injury, so we'll see how that works out for him.
- 23:46Speaker 4: But his career stats one hundred and fourteen tackles, two interceptions,
- 23:49Speaker 4: seventeen passes defendant and three TFLs. If Porter plays, this
- 23:53Speaker 4: is a really talented group.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a matchup still that I would I would
- 24:00Speaker 1: lean on our guys is from where Jasnza and Cooper Cup.
- 24:03Speaker 1: We want to talk about veteran experience against some done,
- 24:05Speaker 1: but this is one of those matchups. I feel like
- 24:07Speaker 1: for years, it's funny that they're on the same team.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I would love to see what Steelers practice has been
- 24:11Speaker 1: like because for years when we would talk about Seahawks
- 24:13Speaker 1: and Rams, who are we talking about?
- 24:14Speaker 2: We were talking about DK and Jyalen.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Ramsey and say, hey, get your popular ready because you
- 24:18Speaker 1: know those two are john and having a conversation so
- 24:21Speaker 1: that that should be fun how those go. And then
- 24:23Speaker 1: our last matchup, Bump, we want to flip it over
- 24:25Speaker 1: to TJ.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Watt. I think people are pretty familiar with that name.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 24:29Speaker 1: He's been one of the best players in the NFL
- 24:31Speaker 1: for a long time. Broke out of his brother's shadow
- 24:34Speaker 1: a long time ago. Because he's gonna be a Hall
- 24:36Speaker 1: of Famer as well. Yeah, I mean seven consecutive Pro Bowls,
- 24:39Speaker 1: four time first Team All Pro, Defensive Player of the
- 24:42Speaker 1: Year twenty twenty one, the second team All Pro in
- 24:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, leads the NFL Saxson's twenty seventeen.
- 24:47Speaker 2: So he's been doing it for a long time.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Could you imagine what their conversations are like at home,
- 24:52Speaker 4: this at the dinner table, just talking about the greatness
- 24:55Speaker 4: that the Watt family has over there.
- 24:58Speaker 3: It is dumb man.
- 24:59Speaker 4: And last year he had sixty one tackles, eleven and
- 25:01Speaker 4: a half sacks, twenty seven quarterback hits, four passes defended,
- 25:04Speaker 4: six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries in nineteen TFLs. Like
- 25:09Speaker 4: Nick Bosam, TJ. Watt will be problem number one for
- 25:11Speaker 4: the Seahawks offensive line. On Sunday, you know, I felt
- 25:14Speaker 4: like there was gonna get a break after Nick Bosa
- 25:16Speaker 4: just tore everything up. And then I remember that mister
- 25:19Speaker 4: Watt plays on this team as well. It's another challenge,
- 25:23Speaker 4: but it's almost a gift that you get Nick Bosa
- 25:26Speaker 4: the first week to get you ready, right, like, remind
- 25:29Speaker 4: you this is the NFL.
- 25:31Speaker 3: And then you go up against wat week two.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and again I mean Nick Bosa, he did make
- 25:36Speaker 1: the play at the end of the game.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Yeah, But I'll.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Say this, I would if you would have told me
- 25:40Speaker 1: going to that game that the Niners only have one sack,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I would sign up for that any day of the week.
- 25:45Speaker 2: For sure, and I would sign up for it again
- 25:47Speaker 2: on Sunday.
- 25:47Speaker 1: If the Steelers have one sacks throughout the game, the
- 25:49Speaker 1: Meins offensive line is playing well.
- 25:50Speaker 2: They did their job last week.
- 25:52Speaker 1: TJ had five tackles, two TFLs in one past defended.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So we'll see how the Seahawks offend him. But to
- 25:59Speaker 1: get a victor, get the first victory of the twenty
- 26:01Speaker 1: twenty five season, we'll let you know path the victory.
- 26:05Speaker 2: After forty five waits for.
- 26:07Speaker 3: The staff, Michael Vickton puts it down.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That kick is away.
- 26:10Speaker 3: If that kick is gone, good day off win bit's gun,
- 26:15Speaker 3: It's a path to victory.
- 26:16Speaker 2: On Hawk Talk, first East coach trip of the season.
- 26:19Speaker 1: The Seahawks have been great in that time slot over
- 26:22Speaker 1: the years twenty seven and eleven in their last thirty
- 26:25Speaker 1: eight and have been great on the road under coach McDonald.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Last year, the Seahawks went seven to one, tying a
- 26:30Speaker 1: franchise record. So with the win on Sunday, it will be
- 26:34Speaker 1: their seventh consecutive road win, which would also set a
- 26:36Speaker 1: franchise record. So the recipes there, the Seahawks know how
- 26:39Speaker 1: to deal with the travel and in these games that
- 26:43Speaker 1: are early, you know, ten am start on Pacific time.
- 26:45Speaker 2: So I'm looking forward to it.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to this, this team going across the country,
- 26:49Speaker 1: getting their first win and really showing again another opportunity
- 26:52Speaker 1: Mike McDonald could show this team can play a style
- 26:54Speaker 1: of football that no one wants to play.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Yep.
- 26:56Speaker 4: But on offense, you gotta find a way to run
- 26:59Speaker 4: the football. Deals gave up a buck eighty two on
- 27:01Speaker 4: the ground last week. Come on, make them continue to
- 27:05Speaker 4: be who they've been or who they were last week,
- 27:07Speaker 4: and be better on third downs three for ten the
- 27:09Speaker 4: third downs fifty percent. That's not going to be enough.
- 27:11Speaker 4: You got to sustain these drives, so run the football.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Be better on third.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Down, yeah, no, absolutely, And to be better on third down,
- 27:17Speaker 1: you got to be better on first and second down,
- 27:19Speaker 1: which I think these guys are up for the challenge.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And Cooper Cup needs to be more involved. He is
- 27:22Speaker 1: one of the best receivers of this generation. Three targets
- 27:26Speaker 1: probably not enough, and we know all thinks, so we
- 27:28Speaker 1: talked about it all the different factors of why things happen.
- 27:30Speaker 1: But I really love to see him get involved early
- 27:33Speaker 1: and often and defensively, keep getting after the quarterback. Front
- 27:36Speaker 1: seven looked great last week. Let's just make sure we
- 27:38Speaker 1: get home a little.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Bit more, get after the quarterback, and get off the
- 27:41Speaker 4: field on third downs. The nine ers were seven or
- 27:43Speaker 4: fourteen last week when it comes to third down conversions,
- 27:46Speaker 4: and keep taking the ball away. You have two interceptions,
- 27:48Speaker 4: you blocked a field goal, you had a gift with
- 27:51Speaker 4: a miss field goal. Just keep causing chaos and keep
- 27:54Speaker 4: these guys a bit nervous.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. And shout out to the Seahawk special
- 27:58Speaker 1: team unit. I think if any unit came out looking
- 28:01Speaker 1: real clean after last week. It was a special team
- 28:03Speaker 1: for coach Harbor in that unit, and the Seahawks showed
- 28:07Speaker 1: a lot of good things against Fort NAIs. This is
- 28:09Speaker 1: their opportunity to put it all together. Go Wan to O,
