- 0:47Speaker 1: a nursing home and just leave, walk away and leave,
- 0:50Speaker 1: leave the key, paid the key and lock it, puck
- 0:53Speaker 1: him in there, or put him in this lunch bath
- 0:55Speaker 1: and throw a toaster in there with him, you know,
- 0:58Speaker 1: whatever works. Well, let's go ahead, get to a recording,

- 1:07Speaker 2: your slot. Anyway, Welcome back to book watchers, where the
- 1:13Speaker 2: where the where, the roles are made up, and the
- 1:15Speaker 2: movies don't matter. We're reading the book anyway.
- 1:18Speaker 1: That was, of course, of the choice.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yes, it was a choice anyway. So of course I
- 1:25Speaker 2: am your hope. I am one of your hosts. Jacob
- 1:28Speaker 2: By Yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 1: No, I know you all are here for me. I
- 1:34Speaker 1: know I'm amazing. Hi, I'm dead. I am the star
- 1:38Speaker 1: I am the yill can see my little face right
- 1:44Speaker 1: now anyway, anyway, oh fucking bitch. They look at the
- 1:49Speaker 1: description below, you'll see a lane that I'll take you
- 1:52Speaker 1: to the other podcast production family of podcasts. You know
- 1:55Speaker 1: the ship. You know the deal, yeah, mm hm, the.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Long long enough, they know the deal.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, sucking on the air and your tall bitch.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You heard her, hear people, Devin is jealous of my height.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm want to be six? Why can I be six?
- 2:20Speaker 1: I'm granted, I'm taller than my dad, but my dad's
- 2:22Speaker 1: shorter than me.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm still not I can't even say my dad. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: can't even call him my dad. He's not my dad.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That man, that donor.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 2:40Speaker 1: All the height and no brain or common sense mm hmm.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Bold talk from the dude with the big head, and
- 2:50Speaker 2: it's followed.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It's it's filled with a big brain. Okay, big wonderful brain, marvelous.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I playfully knocked on your head one time and
- 2:59Speaker 2: I heard an echo.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That's not true. That's not true. It's a lie. Now
- 3:07Speaker 1: what the fuck are we talking about today? Before I
- 3:09Speaker 1: go over there and drive over there and drive your
- 3:10Speaker 1: wind down.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oh you won't you want bet I wouldn't anyway. So
- 3:20Speaker 2: it's sound of this recording. We are actually we are
- 3:22Speaker 2: actually beginning the Christmas season. It is. We're in early
- 3:27Speaker 2: December now, but that has that is not stopping us
- 3:29Speaker 2: from reviewing more horror novels. Of course, you know, honestly,
- 3:35Speaker 2: we probably should have reviewed that these books during the
- 3:37Speaker 2: Halloween specials. I'm over here. I was over here thinking
- 3:42Speaker 2: we already did them, but apparently not, No, we never did.
- 3:47Speaker 2: We never did. So it was like, oh, well, hey,
- 3:52Speaker 2: like goodest time, good time. He can't either, y'all, I
- 3:59Speaker 2: can't speak either.
- 4:00Speaker 1: He can't no brain, no brain, no brain, no wrinkles alone.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I went to college for this.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, what college?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Don't worry about it. And where's that it?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Please have got me nowhere?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. Yeah, you got no room to talk. You've
- 4:26Speaker 2: got no room to talk.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I did a wonderful degree. Okay, mm hmm. How's that
- 4:33Speaker 1: art degree going for you? Devin? Oh so well, so well.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So anyway, today we are going to be reviewing a
- 4:43Speaker 2: book that we booked, a book that that I read
- 4:46Speaker 2: like over a year ago. I actually had this book
- 4:49Speaker 2: for a year before I finally read it because I
- 4:52Speaker 2: had it because my TV. Because at the time when
- 4:54Speaker 2: I bought this book, I was still reading The Wheel
- 4:56Speaker 2: of Time. Yeah. By the time I finally was like,
- 5:00Speaker 2: oh yeah, that's right. I thought this book was given
- 5:02Speaker 2: to me as a as a Christmas gift. Let me
- 5:05Speaker 2: read it. So today we are reviewing Paradise One by
- 5:10Speaker 2: David Wellington. So this is my copy and they still
- 5:17Speaker 2: have these and stores. It's I will say, it is
- 5:20Speaker 2: a this is a good book. When I got it,
- 5:23Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was,
- 5:28Speaker 2: all right, Honestly, I didn't know what to expect. I
- 5:30Speaker 2: went into this book blind and uh, it's very It's
- 5:35Speaker 2: a decent read. I enjoyed it, and honestly, this was
- 5:38Speaker 2: this book I can say was one of the few
- 5:41Speaker 2: horror novels that actually made me feel unsettled, like actually
- 5:47Speaker 2: like there was a point where I could feel like
- 5:50Speaker 2: my chest constricting as I'm reading this book. You know
- 5:53Speaker 2: that that that sense of dread and just like unease.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Uh like I don't know, like books don't make me,
- 6:01Speaker 2: don't give don't really do jump scares very well, this
- 6:04Speaker 2: one didn't make me jump scare, but it definitely gave
- 6:06Speaker 2: me that sense of like like unease, like like oh
- 6:10Speaker 2: my god, this is this is actually terrifying. Ah. So
- 6:15Speaker 2: this book, Paradise one, was written by David Wellington. It
- 6:20Speaker 2: was released, Ah, it was released back in good the
- 6:26Speaker 2: ye old year of twenty twenty three, so it's not
- 6:28Speaker 2: thought old. It's been in a pro about two years.
- 6:30Speaker 2: It's part of what is called the Red Space Trilogy.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Currently only this is there's only two books out right now,
- 6:38Speaker 2: so this book and it's and it's sequel Revenant X,
- 6:42Speaker 2: which is actually the next book we're going to be reviewing.
- 6:45Speaker 2: But I'm not sure if the third book has come
- 6:49Speaker 2: out yet. I checked a couple of months ago and
- 6:51Speaker 2: it said it hasn't been any there hasn't been anything
- 6:54Speaker 2: on it yet. Let me like, okay yet, So it
- 7:02Speaker 2: has not been There hasn't been really any information on
- 7:05Speaker 2: the third book of the Red of the Red Space trilogy.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Revenant X was released last year in twenty like sometime
- 7:13Speaker 2: last year in twenty twenty four, and the next one
- 7:16Speaker 2: wasn't supposed to be set to release them soil either
- 7:18Speaker 2: late twenty like late twenty twenty four, early twenty twenty five,
- 7:22Speaker 2: but still nothing has come out yet, so we're still waiting.
- 7:27Speaker 2: We're still waiting for that. Most likely we're probably not
- 7:31Speaker 2: gonna see it until next year, possibly twenty twenty seven.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I'm excited for it. Yeah, there's a lot of world
- 7:40Speaker 2: There is a bit of a world. There's a bit
- 7:42Speaker 2: of world building in here, because it's very like it's
- 7:44Speaker 2: set more in a realistic futuristic timeline, you know, we
- 7:48Speaker 2: got it's not really like an alternative history or like
- 7:52Speaker 2: some fantasy setting. It's more of like this is Earth
- 7:55Speaker 2: several hundred years like this is humanity several hundred years
- 7:59Speaker 2: in the future. We've colonized multiple worlds outside of the
- 8:02Speaker 2: Solar System, and we've discovered faster than light travel. We
- 8:08Speaker 2: have AI, we even have terrorforming. So a lot of
- 8:13Speaker 2: colony worlds. Humans are are learning how to terraform and
- 8:17Speaker 2: make it more livable and more hospitable. And the world
- 8:23Speaker 2: is a lot like human society is more familiar, but
- 8:27Speaker 2: at the same time it's somewhat different. So Paradise One
- 8:32Speaker 2: itself follows like a multly crew of misfits and societal rejects.
- 8:42Speaker 2: The main character the story follows special Agent Alexandra Petrova
- 8:47Speaker 2: and also follows another character, doctor Lee Zang as they
- 8:53Speaker 2: so these guys get sent out to investigate this investigate
- 8:59Speaker 2: the apparent, not the disappearance, but the silence of Earth's
- 9:03Speaker 2: first deep space colony, Paradise One. So this is one
- 9:07Speaker 2: of Earth's oldest colonies out there. There are other colonies,
- 9:12Speaker 2: but this one is considered one of the oldest. UH.
- 9:15Speaker 2: When they when they arrived, they discovered and they discover
- 9:18Speaker 2: that things have have pretty much gone to ship all right.
- 9:23Speaker 2: There are people the other colonists are going mad. Their
- 9:28Speaker 2: ships are being stranded in orbit, and basically they find
- 9:32Speaker 2: essentially what is a graveyard of ships and the people
- 9:37Speaker 2: UH and the colony itself on the surface of the
- 9:40Speaker 2: planet they have no contact with whatsoever. So the UH
- 9:46Speaker 2: and they also discover that something is causing not only
- 9:51Speaker 2: humans to go mad, but the shipboard ais that pilot
- 9:55Speaker 2: and and operate the ships. So whatever is killing people,
- 10:02Speaker 2: whatever is driving them mad, is also somehow able to
- 10:06Speaker 2: trans is also somehow able to affect AI, which is
- 10:11Speaker 2: scary all right. So Agent Agent Alexandra Petrova, she is
- 10:20Speaker 2: the daughter of the Earth's Special Forces. Like they are
- 10:25Speaker 2: like the Earth Security Forces, they basically are like the
- 10:30Speaker 2: like the police and the military combined into one organization,
- 10:35Speaker 2: all right. They provide security for all of like the
- 10:38Speaker 2: Intersolar System colonies as well as security for others, for
- 10:44Speaker 2: for the other colonies. Her mother used to be the
- 10:49Speaker 2: used to be the executive leader of these of the
- 10:54Speaker 2: security forces before in a political coup was she was out.
- 10:58Speaker 2: She was ousted and basically exiled to Paradise one. So
- 11:03Speaker 2: Petrova herself has become a bit of an outcast because
- 11:07Speaker 2: the new head of the security forces basically completely mistrusts
- 11:13Speaker 2: her and gives her all of the shit assignments and
- 11:16Speaker 2: takes any and takes up any excuse to make her
- 11:19Speaker 2: life a living hell because since she's the daughter of
- 11:22Speaker 2: her political rival and basically the person that she just
- 11:26Speaker 2: like overthrew. Essentially, because throughout the book, it's hinted that
- 11:32Speaker 2: that Asian Petrova's mother was a bit of a tyrant.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Like she was a hardcore woman. She had a like
- 11:40Speaker 2: a strong iron grip on the security forces, and she
- 11:44Speaker 2: ran it, and she ran things by not only by
- 11:47Speaker 2: the book, but harshly. So things were pretty so so
- 11:52Speaker 2: this one. So her mother was infamous. I wouldn't say
- 11:55Speaker 2: she was like a Hitler like figure. But I will
- 11:58Speaker 2: say she was like she was living up to her
- 12:01Speaker 2: Russian ancestry, like because there's like there's strong themes of Russia,
- 12:07Speaker 2: Like there's like a lot of references to Russian culture,
- 12:11Speaker 2: like Petrova herself, like her mother, Petrova and her mother
- 12:14Speaker 2: are from Russia, from like the part of Earth that
- 12:17Speaker 2: used to be Russia, all right, And it's kind of
- 12:21Speaker 2: like this is just like what I've picked up, but
- 12:24Speaker 2: it's very it seems like like there was like some
- 12:27Speaker 2: like some like undertones that her mother was like the
- 12:32Speaker 2: second coming of Joseph Stalin so good, Like she wasn't
- 12:38Speaker 2: like she never it's never like really hinted that she
- 12:42Speaker 2: abused her It's never really like outwardly like stated that
- 12:45Speaker 2: her mother abused her authority, but it was highly implied
- 12:50Speaker 2: that her leadership was was pretty much was almost tyrannical,
- 12:57Speaker 2: like she had like she was like basically hold a
- 13:00Speaker 2: choke hold. She had a chokehold on the rest of
- 13:02Speaker 2: the Solar System before she was out maneuvered and pushed
- 13:06Speaker 2: out of office and eventually exiled from the Solar System.
- 13:11Speaker 2: So Petrova in the beginning of the move in the
- 13:14Speaker 2: beginning when we were introduced to Petrova, she is she
- 13:19Speaker 2: is investigating a series of murders on on one of
- 13:25Speaker 2: the on one of the outer reaches of the Solar system.
- 13:28Speaker 2: She I believe she was on it was either Io
- 13:33Speaker 2: or Calisto actually was she's first stationed. So at the
- 13:39Speaker 2: beginning of the book, Petrova was originally stationed on one
- 13:45Speaker 2: of the outer one on one of the moon colonies
- 13:47Speaker 2: of Gannini, and she was investigating a series of murder
- 13:52Speaker 2: that that had occurred on the colony, and she tracked
- 13:55Speaker 2: the murderer to like to an outpost outside of the
- 13:59Speaker 2: main colonies, and she discovers that the killer was wasn't
- 14:04Speaker 2: really intent, wasn't really killing people just for the just
- 14:08Speaker 2: for the hell of it, but he was actually trying
- 14:10Speaker 2: to prevent the spread of some sort of unknown contagion.
- 14:14Speaker 2: So he killed some people and retreated to this outpost.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And within this outpost she finds people like normal people,
- 14:23Speaker 2: but for some reason these people are acting strange. Primarily
- 14:29Speaker 2: they couldn't speak. They tried speaking, all that would come
- 14:34Speaker 2: out is just high pitched sounds and like gibberish. And
- 14:37Speaker 2: something seems very off about them. She does end up
- 14:41Speaker 2: having a major confrontation with the with the killer himself,
- 14:44Speaker 2: but unfortunately he gets away and she's knocked out. She's
- 14:48Speaker 2: eventually saved. She is eventually saved by the other security
- 14:53Speaker 2: forces that pursued her. They and she gets into a
- 14:57Speaker 2: bit of trouble because her h her sergeant ordered her
- 15:01Speaker 2: to not pursue this guy, but not wanting to let
- 15:05Speaker 2: him get away, she pursued him anyway, and well, he
- 15:09Speaker 2: gets away, but in the process discovers that the outpost
- 15:13Speaker 2: is hiding some people that are possibly infected with some
- 15:15Speaker 2: kind of contagion. See they're not really sure about that.
- 15:19Speaker 2: But when the security forces show up, her boss, who
- 15:24Speaker 2: also happens to be the leader, the new leader of
- 15:29Speaker 2: the security forces and she's the head honcho for all
- 15:32Speaker 2: security forces across the Solar System. She's given new orders.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's sort of like a kind of like last ditch deal,
- 15:41Speaker 2: like if you fuck this up, you're out completely, so regardless,
- 15:46Speaker 2: it's like setting her up for failure. She's given her
- 15:49Speaker 2: the assignment to take to board a ship to one
- 15:55Speaker 2: of the oldest colonies, to one of the oldest Earth colonies, Paradise.
- 15:59Speaker 2: One reason being is because they need to check up
- 16:02Speaker 2: on the colony because for for about thirteen months now,
- 16:06Speaker 2: the colony has gone completely silent, no no communications coming
- 16:13Speaker 2: in or out. Every time they send, every message they
- 16:16Speaker 2: send to the colony is ignored and they don't get
- 16:20Speaker 2: they haven't gotten any kind of responses. And it's sints
- 16:24Speaker 2: it that there have been other tints it that there
- 16:26Speaker 2: were other investigation investigation parties since but it's never, but
- 16:32Speaker 2: Petrovas never isn't given like the full details of what's
- 16:35Speaker 2: going on. So she so she is forced to report
- 16:41Speaker 2: to the Artemis one or I'm sorry the Artemis, I
- 16:45Speaker 2: should say. So. It's a rescue ship, a big it's
- 16:50Speaker 2: like a like a small sized ship, big enough for
- 16:53Speaker 2: big enough for a crew. Honestly, looking at the ship,
- 16:55Speaker 2: it's more it looks almost like a luxury like yacht
- 16:59Speaker 2: rather than an action full shit like an actual like
- 17:01Speaker 2: security forces investigative, investigative like rescue, search and rescue kind
- 17:07Speaker 2: of ship. The Artemiss is piloted by an old by
- 17:13Speaker 2: an old friend of hers and former lover, Sam Parker,
- 17:18Speaker 2: and this dude is also a reject kind of like her.
- 17:22Speaker 2: So in his case, Sam was a former pilot in
- 17:26Speaker 2: training Security Forces pilot in training. But the thing is,
- 17:29Speaker 2: because of like because of butting heads within his instructors
- 17:34Speaker 2: and fellow students, he actually gets kicked out of the
- 17:38Speaker 2: Security Forces pilot program and because of that, it really
- 17:42Speaker 2: ruins his chances of becoming an interplanetary pilot. But he
- 17:46Speaker 2: still manages to secure some jobs as like like a
- 17:50Speaker 2: freight pilot, a freighter pilot, doing some odd jobs here
- 17:53Speaker 2: and there and slowly building up the experience and training
- 17:56Speaker 2: he needs before he's finally given this contract to pilot
- 18:00Speaker 2: the Artemis to Paradise one, and alongside them, the third human,
- 18:06Speaker 2: I want to just say third human member of this
- 18:10Speaker 2: of this little search and rescue group is a even
- 18:14Speaker 2: more disturbed and outcast of a man named doctor jang Lie.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Jang Lie was formerly a top a top researcher and xenobiologist.
- 18:25Speaker 2: He I want to say, just for trigger warning, this
- 18:29Speaker 2: man is deep is suffering from extreme suffers from extreme
- 18:33Speaker 2: post traumatic stress disorder depression anxiety, who has past trauma.
- 18:40Speaker 2: He also tends to be somewhat suicidal and and has
- 18:47Speaker 2: some we'll have some moments of like idelations of self harm. Now,
- 18:52Speaker 2: doctor jang I will say just to give you a
- 18:55Speaker 2: little bit more backstory about him, He was a former
- 18:57Speaker 2: Zeno biologist on a research h on a research platform.
- 19:04Speaker 2: So doctor Zang was originally as zenobiologist that was stationed
- 19:09Speaker 2: on a research outpost on the on one of Saturday's
- 19:13Speaker 2: moon of Titan, the largest moon Titan, and he experienced
- 19:18Speaker 2: a he experienced and was and became the sole survivor
- 19:22Speaker 2: of some sort of of some sort of outbreak. And
- 19:25Speaker 2: when this outbreak occurred, he was charged. He was charged
- 19:29Speaker 2: with determining what the cause was and how to cure it. Unfortunately,
- 19:33Speaker 2: before he could figure out what it was, everybody on
- 19:37Speaker 2: UH in that station unfortunately perished. And because of quarantine
- 19:43Speaker 2: procedures and UH and other and other bureaucratical bullshit, Zzang
- 19:50Speaker 2: was left alone in that station for about six months,
- 19:56Speaker 2: like three to six months. This and also because the
- 19:59Speaker 2: state the station's controls were like the station's like life
- 20:04Speaker 2: support and other controls were being were like operating systems
- 20:10Speaker 2: were controlled externally, the security forces shut down all the
- 20:14Speaker 2: power in the station. So this poor man was left
- 20:17Speaker 2: in isolation for months with no light, no power, like
- 20:24Speaker 2: the only gravity that he had to rely on was
- 20:26Speaker 2: the low gravity of Titan's moon, and because he was
- 20:30Speaker 2: the only person, he still had a sufficient supply of air,
- 20:33Speaker 2: but he spent I believe how long was he in
- 20:38Speaker 2: this fucking it was a month, that's right, it was
- 20:43Speaker 2: a month. Sorry, eded that part out. He was stuck
- 20:46Speaker 2: on Titan, on that station for about a month before
- 20:50Speaker 2: the security forces checked in on him again, thinking that
- 20:52Speaker 2: he would have died or starved or been he would
- 20:56Speaker 2: have died from the infection or possibly starved to death,
- 20:59Speaker 2: and we're surprised to find that he was still alive, so,
- 21:02Speaker 2: believing that he may have been somehow immune to the disease,
- 21:06Speaker 2: they went ahead and rescued him from Titan, and since then,
- 21:12Speaker 2: the security forces have refused to allow him to do
- 21:16Speaker 2: any to be unsupervised or unmonitored, and any attempts that
- 21:21Speaker 2: he has made to take his own life or hurt
- 21:23Speaker 2: or hurt himself, they've always stepped in made sure that
- 21:27Speaker 2: he was resuscitated and brought back to full health, and
- 21:31Speaker 2: eventually they slapped him with a special kind of medical
- 21:36Speaker 2: risk device. This device is like made of some sort
- 21:39Speaker 2: of nanotechnology, so like it wraps, it coils itself around
- 21:43Speaker 2: his forearm kind of it looks like a mass of
- 21:47Speaker 2: gold tendrils and wires, and they could these wires shift
- 21:51Speaker 2: and change themselves. And anytime he's experiencing like like any
- 21:57Speaker 2: kind of PTSD episodes or not terrors or anything that
- 22:01Speaker 2: causes his like blood pressure and heart rates to spike,
- 22:05Speaker 2: the device will inject him with a sedative or like
- 22:08Speaker 2: some sort of antidepressant to help calm him down. And
- 22:11Speaker 2: the thing about this device is is that it also
- 22:14Speaker 2: can detach itself and like uh kind of fly around
- 22:18Speaker 2: in like the form of a golden ball. And it
- 22:22Speaker 2: does that if let's say he like manages to somehow
- 22:25Speaker 2: hurt himself to the point where like he's unconscious and
- 22:29Speaker 2: the device will go seek help or like actually signal
- 22:31Speaker 2: for help. But the thing is is that it's also
- 22:34Speaker 2: kind of like a shock callar too, because if it
- 22:37Speaker 2: detects him trying to do anything to hurt himself, it
- 22:40Speaker 2: will like actually like shock him or do or try
- 22:44Speaker 2: to restrain him, like it'll give him it'll deliver like
- 22:47Speaker 2: shocks to kind of like like cause him to seize
- 22:50Speaker 2: up and restraint and like keep him from doing anything.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And he knows that. Like, so basically this we got
- 22:57Speaker 2: a severely traumatized man who doesn't want to keep on
- 23:03Speaker 2: keep on keeping on, and he has a Pavlovian shock
- 23:07Speaker 2: collar or I should say shock bracelet stuck onto him
- 23:12Speaker 2: that won't let him do it. So I think, like, honestly,
- 23:17Speaker 2: I think the real victim in this in this book
- 23:19Speaker 2: is doctor Jang, because this man has been through a lot.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I like, the reason why I bring up his backstory
- 23:26Speaker 2: more is because it actually is relevant to uh to
- 23:29Speaker 2: what's going on on Paradise One itself, because it's gonna
- 23:33Speaker 2: it's gonna come back, and it's his backstory. What happened
- 23:36Speaker 2: on Titan is gonna come back. So and I will
- 23:38Speaker 2: get into that in just a moment. Uh So Petrova,
- 23:42Speaker 2: Doctor Jang, and Sam Parker. They are also joined by
- 23:47Speaker 2: an AI by a self aware AI companion named rap Scallion.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Rap Scallion is kind of is the is like A
- 23:56Speaker 2: is a robot slash AI caretaker. So he was built
- 24:02Speaker 2: like century. He was built over a century ago during
- 24:05Speaker 2: a time when humanity was highly invested in making self
- 24:09Speaker 2: aware AI before they realized these AI are two problematic,
- 24:12Speaker 2: so they stopped and began focusing on making less self
- 24:16Speaker 2: aware and less intelligence AI any But the AI that
- 24:19Speaker 2: were already built, they made, they cut deals with them
- 24:22Speaker 2: saying that hey, we'll let you live your life as
- 24:24Speaker 2: long as you just do these jobs for us, right,
- 24:26Speaker 2: and the I were like, okay, we're cool with that, Like,
- 24:29Speaker 2: we don't really care what jobs were given, all right,
- 24:32Speaker 2: we just want to be able to exist. So rap
- 24:34Speaker 2: scaling is one of them. Before he joins the crew
- 24:37Speaker 2: on the Artemis, he was like, he was given an
- 24:39Speaker 2: assignment to mine tunnels on on Ganimedi itself. So he
- 24:46Speaker 2: spent months digging, like literally digging tunnels throughout the under
- 24:52Speaker 2: throughout the subsurface of the Moon, mining for materials. And
- 24:55Speaker 2: there came a point where like he pretty much completed
- 24:58Speaker 2: his job and he was left alone to his to
- 25:01Speaker 2: his own devices. And because Rapscallion had access unlimited access
- 25:06Speaker 2: to an industrial three D printer, he was he spent
- 25:09Speaker 2: his time printing out like different parts and materials. He'll
- 25:12Speaker 2: make like different kind of robot robot bodies for himself,
- 25:16Speaker 2: and he never makes them like he never really makes
- 25:18Speaker 2: them humanoid looking. He'll make them look wacky, uh. In
- 25:22Speaker 2: some cases, he'll make them look spider like or crab
- 25:25Speaker 2: like or just really weird looking and he would always
- 25:29Speaker 2: make them in like a really bright green or like
- 25:32Speaker 2: really like offensively vibrant colors, just just because Yeah, it's
- 25:38Speaker 2: his it's his way of being of giving humanity the
- 25:40Speaker 2: middle finger, like, oh you don't like you don't like
- 25:42Speaker 2: how I look good? So uh so, Uh, the point
- 25:49Speaker 2: is is that he's an asshole. My point is he's
- 25:52Speaker 2: an asshole. And uh he's given a new assignment to
- 25:55Speaker 2: join the Artemists as like, you know, help assisting the
- 25:58Speaker 2: shipboard AI and uh in keeping the ship running, to
- 26:03Speaker 2: help the help with rescue efforts, and pretty much just
- 26:07Speaker 2: be the caretaker, the ship's caretaker. Uh so these so,
- 26:13Speaker 2: these three alongside with the ship's AI, who is just
- 26:15Speaker 2: simply referred to as Artemis itself. The uh they get
- 26:21Speaker 2: the ship, they answer their their cryopods and head to
- 26:24Speaker 2: Paradise one. Now when they reach Paradise uh before they
- 26:30Speaker 2: reach Paradise one, like right, I'm sorry, I should say,
- 26:35Speaker 2: right when they uh read one. Just as they reach
- 26:38Speaker 2: Paradise one, several things happen the the Artemis itself intercepts
- 26:44Speaker 2: a strange signal coming from the planet itself. Before it
- 26:49Speaker 2: could decode it, the AI begins to glitch and UH
- 26:55Speaker 2: for anything else happens, it shuts itself down and now Rapscallion,
- 27:00Speaker 2: who is the only one who is still active throughout
- 27:04Speaker 2: the journey, is now is now the funnel the confused
- 27:07Speaker 2: why is the why did the ship AI just shut
- 27:10Speaker 2: itself down? And then the next thing you know, the
- 27:13Speaker 2: ship is struck by and by something and this something
- 27:18Speaker 2: almost tears the ship into ship in half. So now
- 27:23Speaker 2: so now the so now the the Artemis has been crippled.
- 27:31Speaker 2: The crew, the living crew members are forced to UH
- 27:36Speaker 2: are forced to find a way to navigate the tunnels,
- 27:39Speaker 2: navigate the ship. This ship's damage sections to reach the
- 27:42Speaker 2: safer parts of the ship, mainly the bridge, which is
- 27:45Speaker 2: the only part of the ship that had which is
- 27:48Speaker 2: pretty viously the only part of the ship that is
- 27:49Speaker 2: able to maintain its life support successfully. Rapscallion begins to
- 27:54Speaker 2: like try to repair the ship. Petrova and doctor Jang
- 27:59Speaker 2: are able to get out the cryopods and safely navigate themselves,
- 28:03Speaker 2: try to safety navigate themselves to the bridge, and strangely enough,
- 28:07Speaker 2: and I say strangely enough, Sam Parker Uh is still there.
- 28:11Speaker 2: He's there, and he's helping them get a guide through
- 28:14Speaker 2: the through the ship and here and he made it
- 28:18Speaker 2: to the bridge first. It's where he's beginning where he
- 28:20Speaker 2: tries to begin this uh the repairs and try to
- 28:24Speaker 2: help and try to help the keep the ship afloat.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I say strange because when the ship was struck, it
- 28:30Speaker 2: struck on the on the side of the ship that
- 28:32Speaker 2: his cryopod was on. We and it's and it's kind
- 28:35Speaker 2: of strange because we don't see Sam. We don't see
- 28:38Speaker 2: Sam get out of his cryopod like we see Petrov
- 28:41Speaker 2: or Zhang. So the cut so they managed to navigate
- 28:47Speaker 2: the dangerous parts of the ship gets and they get
- 28:50Speaker 2: to the bridge and Rapscallion and Parker begins to uh
- 28:55Speaker 2: try to repair the ship. At one point, before Shang
- 28:58Speaker 2: was able to join, Betrov Zhang was trapped in his
- 29:02Speaker 2: UH in his quarters and his little control his little
- 29:08Speaker 2: control collar detached itself and flew through the ship and
- 29:11Speaker 2: found Petrova. And when it found her, the thing is,
- 29:15Speaker 2: it doesn't like speak, it doesn't use like an art
- 29:17Speaker 2: like an ai voice to like tell her like it
- 29:19Speaker 2: needs help. It goes up to her, creates these little
- 29:22Speaker 2: tendrils and like zaps her and like basically like holds
- 29:25Speaker 2: a gun to her throat, to her head and tells
- 29:27Speaker 2: her like, come on coming with me, and she's like okay, damn.
- 29:33Speaker 2: So she has kill like okay, chill Jesus. And so
- 29:37Speaker 2: she leads her Susan Jane's quarters where he was trapped,
- 29:41Speaker 2: and he was he is slowly asphyxiating because do the
- 29:44Speaker 2: fires in the ship. His his quarters were quickly filling
- 29:48Speaker 2: up with carbon monoxide. But she manages to get to him.
- 29:52Speaker 2: She puts a breather on him and takes him back
- 29:54Speaker 2: to the bridge. Uh. And there that's where they learn
- 29:57Speaker 2: what like what really happened. Uh. They try to reactivate
- 30:01Speaker 2: the ship's AI, but when they do that, the thing
- 30:04Speaker 2: is that the shipboard AI tend to take the form
- 30:07Speaker 2: like tend to take different forms, like if you ever
- 30:09Speaker 2: played the game Halo, and you know how like the
- 30:14Speaker 2: unsc AI, they all like to take on different shapes
- 30:17Speaker 2: and forms like of course Krtana takes takes the form
- 30:20Speaker 2: that she takes, and then the lean like Cortana takes
- 30:24Speaker 2: the form of like a sort of like pretty much
- 30:27Speaker 2: this like a like a Venus kind of character. Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 2: And then there was another AI named Selene, and she
- 30:35Speaker 2: took the form of like a more prim and proper
- 30:38Speaker 2: like UNSC officer. And then there was Rowlands who took
- 30:44Speaker 2: the form of a World War two bombardier. All right,
- 30:47Speaker 2: so the AI and Para Paradise one they take, but
- 30:50Speaker 2: they take more than just like humanoid forms. The artemists
- 30:53Speaker 2: would take the form of would take the form of
- 30:56Speaker 2: a stag of like a deer. But when they tried
- 30:59Speaker 2: to reactivate they AI. All they all that happened like
- 31:02Speaker 2: for a short period of time was uh. The AI's
- 31:06Speaker 2: form appeared, but instead of a calm uh, a calm,
- 31:11Speaker 2: serene stag looking avatar, they get this grotesque the avatar appears.
- 31:17Speaker 2: It's this grotesque like decayed, decrepit looking stag like, like
- 31:25Speaker 2: like Bambie's mom post hunting expedition. They were when this happened.
- 31:30Speaker 2: They were forced to shut the AI off and figure
- 31:33Speaker 2: things out themselves. But as as they're getting the ship
- 31:38Speaker 2: systems downline, Sam reveals that they figured out what had
- 31:42Speaker 2: what it hit them. It was a cargo container. And
- 31:47Speaker 2: the thing is, the cargo container was moving so fast
- 31:50Speaker 2: that it wasn't was moving so fast that it wasn't
- 31:53Speaker 2: like just drifting debris. It was actually shot at the
- 31:58Speaker 2: at the Artemis just as it came out of slip
- 32:00Speaker 2: space or some excuse me, out of FTL. When they
- 32:04Speaker 2: trace his trajectory back, they realized that it wasn't the
- 32:07Speaker 2: only cargo ship cargo container that was shot at them.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Every fifteen minutes or so, another cargo container is being
- 32:14Speaker 2: shot at them. But the thing is whatever shooting at
- 32:17Speaker 2: them is not is not accurately being aimed, so it
- 32:22Speaker 2: keeps missing them. However, each time one gets fired, it's
- 32:26Speaker 2: getting closer to hitting them again, so they trace the
- 32:31Speaker 2: containers back to their origin and realize that they're being
- 32:34Speaker 2: fired from a there some from a ship. I'm sorry,
- 32:40Speaker 2: I'm like the you should haven't at that part out please, Like,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I don't know people seeing me have a stroke on this.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's funny. Yeah, No, I'm gonna let them see you
- 32:55Speaker 1: have a struggle. Well, I'm gonna let them listen to
- 32:58Speaker 1: you struggle.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Anyway, they see that the cargo that the cargo containers
- 33:03Speaker 2: are being shot from a colony ship, a massive ship. Basically,
- 33:08Speaker 2: this thing is built built to carry thousands of people
- 33:11Speaker 2: of colonists to New worlds. Right, and it's not just
- 33:14Speaker 2: colonists too. It's also like like equipment supplies, containers, like
- 33:20Speaker 2: everything they need to successfully build a new settlement on
- 33:24Speaker 2: Paradise one right, and somebody had begun rigging a magnetic
- 33:30Speaker 2: cargo loader who essentially slingshot these these containers out into
- 33:36Speaker 2: space to try to destroy the Artemis. And when they're
- 33:40Speaker 2: when they tell When they use the Artemis's uh telescopes
- 33:44Speaker 2: to look down to take a closer look at the
- 33:46Speaker 2: ship itself, Petrova notices something strange on the coming from
- 33:51Speaker 2: the bridge of the Colony ship, Like they can see
- 33:54Speaker 2: the glow of the ship's ai uh like coming out
- 33:57Speaker 2: of the windows, but they also noticed that the light
- 34:00Speaker 2: in the bridge is flashing in a certain way, like
- 34:04Speaker 2: in a pattern, and they realize it's a Morse code.
- 34:09Speaker 2: And and in this code, like in this code, Petrova
- 34:15Speaker 2: realizes that the code is done in a specific sequence
- 34:19Speaker 2: that only her mother knows. And it's not just like
- 34:25Speaker 2: it's just general more like Morse code. But the thing
- 34:29Speaker 2: is is that when it like when it's flashing, it
- 34:32Speaker 2: actually like she sees the code says her name. But
- 34:37Speaker 2: here's the thing. Her name, her name is not Alexandra Petrova,
- 34:43Speaker 2: but Alecxandra like there's a there's a Russian way of
- 34:47Speaker 2: saying her Alexandra like Alexandra like a l K A
- 34:52Speaker 2: L E K s A N d R right when
- 34:57Speaker 2: she said when she sees the code spell out her
- 34:59Speaker 2: name that way, she's like, the only person whoever calls
- 35:02Speaker 2: me Alexandra like that is my mother, like she thinks.
- 35:07Speaker 2: So she has reason to believe that her mother was
- 35:09Speaker 2: sent was on was on that was on the colony
- 35:14Speaker 2: ship and was calling to her. So she and doctor
- 35:18Speaker 2: Jang make a decision to try to space walk all
- 35:21Speaker 2: the way over to the from the Artemist to that
- 35:23Speaker 2: ship to figure out what's going on, because aside from
- 35:26Speaker 2: detecting the Colony ship, the Artemist was able to detect
- 35:31Speaker 2: dozens of other ships in orbit around Paradise One, including
- 35:36Speaker 2: like one or two other big ass colony ships, so
- 35:39Speaker 2: they still don't know. Their communications have been completely destroyed
- 35:43Speaker 2: when the when the Artemist was hit and Sam is
- 35:46Speaker 2: still trying to get the to get them back online,
- 35:50Speaker 2: but the other ships are are all locked in like
- 35:52Speaker 2: a are all locked in orbit around the planet and
- 35:55Speaker 2: nothing that none of them are doing anything except the
- 36:00Speaker 2: set that one Colony ship. So first thing they really
- 36:04Speaker 2: they have to do, they have to get the ship
- 36:07Speaker 2: to stop shooting at them. And then they decide and
- 36:10Speaker 2: then Petrova decides she wants to try to spacewalk over
- 36:12Speaker 2: to that ship. So the way they get the ships
- 36:15Speaker 2: stop firing at them is they make it. They they
- 36:20Speaker 2: navigate back to the medical to the medical bay of
- 36:22Speaker 2: the Artemis and in the medical bay there is a
- 36:25Speaker 2: surgical laser, the high powered surgical laser that is used
- 36:30Speaker 2: in like in like in some form of surgery right now.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Typically it has limiters on it to keep it to
- 36:36Speaker 2: make it safe for surgery. But Petrova and Jang figure
- 36:40Speaker 2: out a way to overclock its uh overclock the laser.
- 36:45Speaker 2: They detach it from the surgical bay, take it outside.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Petrova manually aims the laser at the Colony ship and
- 36:54Speaker 2: when they and when they fire it up, the laser
- 36:56Speaker 2: cuts through the magnetic loader that was shooting at them
- 37:00Speaker 2: and causes a minor explosion in the cargo bay. So
- 37:03Speaker 2: this stops them from being fired at. So it gives
- 37:06Speaker 2: the Artimists some time to like, you know, relax and
- 37:08Speaker 2: not have to worry about getting continuously shot at but
- 37:11Speaker 2: when they're using telep the telescopic cameras to uh to
- 37:15Speaker 2: look at the ship, they notice that there's no activity
- 37:19Speaker 2: in the ship going on whatsoever. There's nothing, like they
- 37:24Speaker 2: don't really see like who was, like who was manning
- 37:28Speaker 2: the the magnetic loader. So Xang and so Jang and
- 37:35Speaker 2: Petrova suit up and they head over to the Colony ship.
- 37:39Speaker 2: They find that there are no that the ship's crew
- 37:41Speaker 2: and passengers are gone. They don't see a single person,
- 37:48Speaker 2: so they start making their way up the They start
- 37:52Speaker 2: making their way through the ship and eventually they do
- 37:57Speaker 2: reach the the bridge. But as they're making their way
- 38:03Speaker 2: through the ship, Petrovos begin to is beginning to notice
- 38:06Speaker 2: a strange feeling coming over her hunger, Like I mean,
- 38:10Speaker 2: it's normal to be hungry, but she slowly trying to
- 38:12Speaker 2: notice that she's getting more and more hungry, Like it's
- 38:15Speaker 2: starting to get it's starting to like, you know, little earworm,
- 38:21Speaker 2: little intrusive thought is coming into her, like I'm hungry,
- 38:25Speaker 2: even though like it's the stress of the situation, just
- 38:28Speaker 2: I don't want like like rationally speaking, she doesn't want
- 38:31Speaker 2: food and physically she doesn't feel really feel hungry, but
- 38:35Speaker 2: yet for some reason, she is hungry. They do make
- 38:39Speaker 2: it to the ships, to the ship's bridge, and so
- 38:42Speaker 2: they do find some of the crew, but they find
- 38:45Speaker 2: that the crew are horribly mutilated. The ones that are
- 38:49Speaker 2: still alive look like they've been it looked like they
- 38:53Speaker 2: have bite marks all over themselves and in some cases
- 38:56Speaker 2: their flesh has been completely storn out, completely torn off
- 39:01Speaker 2: of their body. And in some cases some of the
- 39:04Speaker 2: live crew member so they see they actively see them
- 39:07Speaker 2: chewing on themselves, biting their fingers, their fingernails off, chewing
- 39:13Speaker 2: on their bodies, taking huge chunks out of themselves, and
- 39:16Speaker 2: they find the AI, the ship's AI. So far, the
- 39:20Speaker 2: ship's AI is is operating fine. They try to question
- 39:25Speaker 2: it to figure out what's going on, and it reveals
- 39:28Speaker 2: to them that shortly after UH that shortly after reaching
- 39:33Speaker 2: Paradise one UH, they began UH the ship. They began
- 39:39Speaker 2: experiencing ship failure, like the engines fail, they can't go.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Something stops them from going any further, and the people
- 39:47Speaker 2: on the ship began experiencing an extreme form of psychosis
- 39:52Speaker 2: that for like in the form of rampants hunger. So
- 39:58Speaker 2: everyone in the ship is experienced seeing extreme like bodily
- 40:02Speaker 2: hunger like they can't help themselves. They start eating everything
- 40:04Speaker 2: that they can, until eventually they start going mad, start
- 40:08Speaker 2: turning on each other. They start eating each other and
- 40:11Speaker 2: before and if they can't get anything, and there's if
- 40:13Speaker 2: they don't have anything else to eat, they start eating themselves.
- 40:16Speaker 2: So the AI. So the AI, in order to protect
- 40:20Speaker 2: the remaining crew, initiated a ship wide lockdown, locking all
- 40:27Speaker 2: the crew in their individuals like rooms, any open like
- 40:32Speaker 2: like any corridor, open cells, whatever. You made sure to
- 40:36Speaker 2: try to separate them as best as possible. But still
- 40:39Speaker 2: the AI, but still the people are that are still
- 40:43Speaker 2: alive are slowly eating themselves to death, as as Petrova
- 40:49Speaker 2: and Zen could see in the crew that's on the
- 40:51Speaker 2: on the bridge. The AI also reveals that it's been
- 40:55Speaker 2: experiencing some strange symptoms itself, that it for some reason
- 41:01Speaker 2: of being that. Uh, for one thing, the AI realized
- 41:04Speaker 2: that it's self aware.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Now that's never good.
- 41:09Speaker 2: And also it's the AI is also feeling hunger.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Huh, how is that going to be?
- 41:17Speaker 2: Exactly? That's the AI that was the AI is conundrum too,
- 41:21Speaker 2: because it's like because the AI itself was like, I'm
- 41:24Speaker 2: an AI I my body is the ship. I don't
- 41:28Speaker 2: need food, but yet for some reason, I hunger. And
- 41:33Speaker 2: that's when it turns on them. Oh you can't like
- 41:38Speaker 2: It says, you can't leave now because you because you
- 41:41Speaker 2: both are are are going to be experience. Have been
- 41:44Speaker 2: infected the moment you walked in on this ship. You've
- 41:46Speaker 2: been infected by the hunger. And Petrova realizes this is
- 41:50Speaker 2: true because she's starting to feel that hunger. But Jang,
- 41:53Speaker 2: on the other hand, is like, I'm gucci, he's not.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Zang has been completely unaffected by the hunger.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 42:04Speaker 2: So Zang and Petrova are are forced to try to
- 42:08Speaker 2: escape the ship. The ship Ai, not wanting them to escape,
- 42:13Speaker 2: sends them to uh unlocks all of the corridors and
- 42:17Speaker 2: the rooms, unleashing the infected crew on the two of them.
- 42:22Speaker 2: The thing is, these people are not like infected in
- 42:26Speaker 2: the sense of like a disease, like a like a
- 42:28Speaker 2: viral disease or bacteria. They're still normal people, but they're
- 42:33Speaker 2: experiencing an extreme form of psychosis causing them to develop
- 42:38Speaker 2: UH like developed like this, like urged, like hunger. It's
- 42:43Speaker 2: like that, you know, like how our body responds to
- 42:47Speaker 2: signals from our brain responds to signals from our from
- 42:51Speaker 2: our organs, Like if our body is like dehydrated, it
- 42:54Speaker 2: sends a signal to the brain saying that it's uh,
- 42:57Speaker 2: that it's thirsty, we need water and that kind of
- 43:00Speaker 2: like yeah, triggers are responsing us that, like, hey, we
- 43:05Speaker 2: needed to take a drink water. And it's the same
- 43:07Speaker 2: with like hunger. We feel hunger, you know, we feel
- 43:09Speaker 2: the rumbling in our tummies and everything like that, and
- 43:12Speaker 2: then it tells like okay, time to eat, so we eat.
- 43:15Speaker 2: But then like when we're eating, our stomach has like
- 43:18Speaker 2: a limitter on itself that like kind of like a
- 43:20Speaker 2: gauge that tells us that it's full, and when it
- 43:22Speaker 2: gets to that point, it sends the signal to the
- 43:24Speaker 2: brain like hey, we're full, don't need we don't need
- 43:27Speaker 2: any more food, and that like's how we respond to it. Well,
- 43:30Speaker 2: something is causing these people to just feel hunger no
- 43:33Speaker 2: matter what, and no matter what they eat, they'll just
- 43:36Speaker 2: keep eating and eating on cell either like there's nothing
- 43:39Speaker 2: left to eat, or their own bodies explode, like their
- 43:41Speaker 2: own stomachs explode from just the extreme amounts of foods
- 43:44Speaker 2: they've consumed.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Oh dear, it's not good.
- 43:49Speaker 2: So the two of all the death mm hmm. So
- 43:53Speaker 2: the two of them managed to make it to a
- 43:56Speaker 2: auxiliary medical bay. Jang deliberately led them into the because
- 44:00Speaker 2: he surprisingly recognizes these signs of psychosis and he believes
- 44:07Speaker 2: to know what's caused, and he believes that he knows
- 44:10Speaker 2: what's causing it, and in fact, he already knows how
- 44:14Speaker 2: to cure it. But the thing is, by the time
- 44:16Speaker 2: they reach the bay, and they seal the medical bay
- 44:18Speaker 2: and seal themselves in, but Trova ends up succumbing to
- 44:21Speaker 2: her psychosis and tries to attack Zaying and eat him. Uh.
- 44:26Speaker 2: He manages to restrain her to just long enough for
- 44:29Speaker 2: him to perform a procedure on her. This procedure he
- 44:32Speaker 2: had to like h while she's restrained. While like she's restrained,
- 44:36Speaker 2: he has to use the medical three D printer to
- 44:39Speaker 2: print out a special kind of light strobe, and he
- 44:43Speaker 2: reveals to her that he's encountered something. He's encountered this
- 44:47Speaker 2: contagion before. He doesn't know what it's. He doesn't know
- 44:50Speaker 2: exactly what's causing it because it doesn't appear. The contagion
- 44:54Speaker 2: does not appear on any kind of like tests blood scan, CT, viral, bacterial,
- 45:03Speaker 2: no matter what kind of tests they've done. They've even
- 45:05Speaker 2: done things like MRI cat scans full the full works.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Whatever this thing is does not appear on traditional tests.
- 45:13Speaker 2: All right, And he revealed, and he reveals that he encountered.
- 45:16Speaker 2: He later will reveal that he encountered this before on Titan.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Except on Titan, the infection it uh the infection revealed
- 45:29Speaker 2: itself in a different manner. So the people on this
- 45:31Speaker 2: colony ship, they're therefore, their psychosis is causing them to
- 45:37Speaker 2: just experience extreme hunger, constant hunger. In his case, the
- 45:46Speaker 2: his former crew on the station of Titan began to experience.
- 45:52Speaker 2: What they begin to experience is that they forget how
- 45:55Speaker 2: to breathe. The infection causes the part of their brain
- 45:59Speaker 2: that tells them whence in hell and exhale to turn off.
- 46:05Speaker 2: So when we talk about breathing, so normally we breathe.
- 46:10Speaker 2: It's an involuntary function of our body. We just breathe.
- 46:14Speaker 2: We don't have to think about it. We're always just
- 46:17Speaker 2: doing it right, because that's that is an autonomous function
- 46:20Speaker 2: of our brain. There's a signal in ours there's a
- 46:23Speaker 2: thing in our brain that tells that tells our body
- 46:25Speaker 2: to inhale and exhale in hell and exhale. In Jang's case,
- 46:33Speaker 2: his crewmates slowly begin when as they're becoming infected, that
- 46:38Speaker 2: function in their brain gets turned off, so they're no
- 46:41Speaker 2: longer able to involuntarily breathe. They essentially forgot how to breathe,
- 46:48Speaker 2: so they have to manually breathe themselves, like they have
- 46:52Speaker 2: to constantly remind themselves in Hell. But the thing is
- 46:58Speaker 2: is that are not really meant to like manually breathe.
- 47:04Speaker 2: So over time, as these people kept trying to, like
- 47:07Speaker 2: keep keep reminding themselves to breathe, they reach a point
- 47:10Speaker 2: where like they're exerting themselves and they're exhausting themselves in
- 47:14Speaker 2: like manually breathing, forcing themselves to breathe, until eventually they
- 47:20Speaker 2: just stop. They run out of energy. They go to sleep,
- 47:24Speaker 2: they fall asleep, and because they're when you're asleep, you're
- 47:27Speaker 2: not in control of what's going on in your body. Now.
- 47:30Speaker 2: It's all completely like you're relying on your autonomous functions.
- 47:34Speaker 2: They go to sleep and they stop breathing. I gotta
- 47:38Speaker 2: tell you, guys, when I read that part when they
- 47:39Speaker 2: finally revealed that his the researchers at Titan the infection
- 47:47Speaker 2: killed them by turning off their ability to their involuntary
- 47:51Speaker 2: breathing responses. That was where I got like, like, that's
- 47:56Speaker 2: where my chest started to tighten, because like when you
- 47:58Speaker 2: think about it, like you don't really think about breathing,
- 48:01Speaker 2: You just do it. I mean, if you talk about breathing,
- 48:03Speaker 2: that that triggers a little thing in in our brains
- 48:06Speaker 2: that are like you know, you're just like, oh hey,
- 48:08Speaker 2: I need to breathe.
- 48:10Speaker 1: You become aware, you.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Become aware of you become self aware of breathing, and
- 48:15Speaker 2: you start manually breathing for a second before your brain
- 48:18Speaker 2: is just like okay stop and you just start breathing
- 48:21Speaker 2: on your own. So yeah, even like now I'm just
- 48:25Speaker 2: like that made my test my chest tightened. That made
- 48:32Speaker 2: that made me like kind of like it made it
- 48:33Speaker 2: hard for me to breathe. Them over here like oh god.
- 48:37Speaker 2: So essentially they were killed by an intrusive thought. Not
- 48:40Speaker 2: that's exactly, because that's exactly what's happening to these people,
- 48:45Speaker 2: Like an intrusive thought is killing them. Like hey, what
- 48:48Speaker 2: if you just suddenly can't breathe, or hey, you're hungry,
- 48:53Speaker 2: keep eating, still hungry, now you're not full, keep up
- 48:57Speaker 2: competing or sure they encounter they encounter people who developed
- 49:05Speaker 2: like it causes that. Their intrutive thought is like, oh,
- 49:08Speaker 2: you need to need to take things apart. You need
- 49:13Speaker 2: to see how they work. You gotta decide, you gotta dissect,
- 49:17Speaker 2: you gotta pull apart. There's something in you.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Oh God knows, Oh God.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Knows, like oc like being infected with OCD. Yeah, and
- 49:29Speaker 2: another point and another point. Some people are like, oh, no,
- 49:31Speaker 2: light's bad. The light will kill you. What if the
- 49:36Speaker 2: light touched you and you die? So these are like
- 49:39Speaker 2: some of the different ways that the basilisks infects infects you.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Doctor Jang reveals that his team began referring to the
- 49:48Speaker 2: contagion as the basilisk because they know they were able
- 49:50Speaker 2: to at least figure out that it's that it's some
- 49:54Speaker 2: sort of but like it's some form of contagious psychosis,
- 50:00Speaker 2: like a contagious mental illness. It affects the brain, but
- 50:04Speaker 2: yet it's not like it's not like caused by a
- 50:09Speaker 2: virus or a bacteria or even a parasite. Though they
- 50:11Speaker 2: suspect that it's that it is some form of alien
- 50:14Speaker 2: organism because it's not something that they've ever encountered before. Unfortunately,
- 50:19Speaker 2: Jang was only able Jang like Unfortunately doctor Jang was
- 50:23Speaker 2: able to figure out a way to cure it because
- 50:26Speaker 2: since it's affecting the brain, he figured that maybe the
- 50:29Speaker 2: best way to stop it, to like immunize yourself, or
- 50:32Speaker 2: to cure it is to basically do a hard reset
- 50:35Speaker 2: of your brain. Yeah, and well the best way to
- 50:39Speaker 2: do that, the way, the best way that he could
- 50:41Speaker 2: figure out how to do that was by triggering a seizure.
- 50:46Speaker 2: So by doing that, he he created he developed a device.
- 50:50Speaker 2: It's basically it looks like a medical flashlight, that kind
- 50:53Speaker 2: of complex medical flashlight, but it's programmed to strobe create
- 50:58Speaker 2: light strobes that when you push the that you place
- 51:02Speaker 2: the light the strobe against your eye and it uh
- 51:06Speaker 2: and it begins flashing at a specific pattern. And these
- 51:09Speaker 2: light these bright light flashes are supposed to trigger a
- 51:12Speaker 2: sort of like a almost like something like a seizure. Right,
- 51:15Speaker 2: it basically causes your brain to like temporarily shut down
- 51:19Speaker 2: and like like reset itself. Right when it does that,
- 51:23Speaker 2: the Basilisk, the Basilisk infection is gone. It clear. It
- 51:29Speaker 2: clears your brain of the infection, so he manages to
- 51:32Speaker 2: restrain Petrova. He builds a new strobe light, sticks her
- 51:37Speaker 2: with it, triggers a mild seizure in her, and saves
- 51:44Speaker 2: her life. After Once she's cleared of the infection, they
- 51:48Speaker 2: the two of them try to make it back to
- 51:49Speaker 2: the cargo bay where they uh say space walk back
- 51:52Speaker 2: to the Artemis, but Petrova ends up getting captured by
- 51:55Speaker 2: the AI and she's taken to a deeper part of
- 51:57Speaker 2: the cargo bay and it's there. This is part of
- 52:00Speaker 2: the cargo bay where all the three D printers are,
- 52:04Speaker 2: and there she sees that the AI had begun constructing
- 52:06Speaker 2: itself a large like mechanical body. The body itself doesn't
- 52:15Speaker 2: really have any moving parts. It looks like it's just
- 52:18Speaker 2: a series of like it just looks like a mouth
- 52:21Speaker 2: with tubes and what looks like a stomach. The AI
- 52:25Speaker 2: literally built itself a artificial body so it can have
- 52:29Speaker 2: something to eat, and it begins to try to eat Petrova. Fortunately,
- 52:35Speaker 2: Jang was able. Jang with the help of Rapscallion, who
- 52:39Speaker 2: who uploaded itself into the Colony ship's servers and was
- 52:44Speaker 2: able to print himself out a new body. The two
- 52:47Speaker 2: of them managed to get fine Petrova and save her.
- 52:50Speaker 2: The mechanic, the mechanical mouth that the that the ship's
- 52:57Speaker 2: ai man had built for itself, had only managed to
- 53:00Speaker 2: like chomp on Petrova's arm. The thing is, her arm
- 53:05Speaker 2: gets almost completely pulverized, so they escape. They get on
- 53:10Speaker 2: They managed to get a They managed to take an
- 53:13Speaker 2: escape vessel and fly back to the Artemis, and doctor
- 53:19Speaker 2: Jang is able to save her arm, though it's put
- 53:22Speaker 2: into a cast and he's not really sure if her
- 53:25Speaker 2: arm is going to heal properly because that thing took
- 53:29Speaker 2: her like. That thing was like straight up gnawing on
- 53:31Speaker 2: her arm. It was fucked up. Not gonna lie. So
- 53:37Speaker 2: they make it back to the Artemis and Parker was
- 53:40Speaker 2: able to Parker was able to restore some communications and
- 53:45Speaker 2: even figured out that the Artemis itself had managed to
- 53:50Speaker 2: protect itself in a way to keep it from being
- 53:53Speaker 2: fully taken over by whatever infection the Basilists had inflicted
- 53:57Speaker 2: on it, and they he and Rapscallion figured out a
- 54:01Speaker 2: way to restore the Artemis back to its like basically
- 54:05Speaker 2: restore it to factory settings to before the before the
- 54:10Speaker 2: AI was infected. When they do this, they realized they
- 54:13Speaker 2: had to basically do a hard restart on the ship
- 54:16Speaker 2: and in a similar way that Jang had to do
- 54:19Speaker 2: a hard restart on Petrova's brain and his own UH.
- 54:22Speaker 2: So they do that, but Parker tries to warn them
- 54:25Speaker 2: that what's what's about to happen, and that something weird
- 54:30Speaker 2: is going to happen. And when they restart the when
- 54:32Speaker 2: they restart the the AI and the power and the
- 54:37Speaker 2: ship flickers, the hollow panel, the hollow projectors all turn
- 54:42Speaker 2: off for a few seconds. And when that happens, Parker disappears. Nope,
- 54:48Speaker 2: As it turns out, Parker was killed in the in
- 54:54Speaker 2: the initial attack of the Artemis. When that when that
- 54:57Speaker 2: container hit the Artemis, it hit the side of the
- 55:01Speaker 2: ship where his quarters were, and it killed him instantly.
- 55:05Speaker 2: The thing is that when a somehow when he UH,
- 55:10Speaker 2: when he was killed, he was still in cryostasis. And
- 55:12Speaker 2: when you're when you're in Stasi's there you're the Stasi's
- 55:15Speaker 2: pod like monitors your brain waves and basically like connects
- 55:19Speaker 2: UH is connected to your brain UH. And somehow the
- 55:25Speaker 2: ship managed to copy his his mind, and when he died,
- 55:30Speaker 2: his consciousness was somehow uploaded into the ship, so Rapscallion
- 55:35Speaker 2: detected his death almost immediately. But then when rap Scalion
- 55:38Speaker 2: was was trying to like start repairing the ship and
- 55:42Speaker 2: secure like makes stabilize the ship, Parker appears, and even
- 55:46Speaker 2: rap Scaling was like, what the fuck, how are you alive?
- 55:50Speaker 2: And he immediately knew that Parker was not alive. But
- 55:54Speaker 2: somehow his consciousness is now a part of the ship,
- 55:58Speaker 2: part of the ship, part of the crew worship, and
- 56:02Speaker 2: he's now a basically a new kind of AI. So
- 56:07Speaker 2: Parker and so Parker has been helping Repscallion stabilize the ship,
- 56:11Speaker 2: but from a more like internal like within the ship's
- 56:15Speaker 2: operating system. And when the ship gets restarted, like gets restarted,
- 56:20Speaker 2: like his holographic form temporarily gets stut off because the
- 56:25Speaker 2: thing is the holograph. The holograms are also hard lights,
- 56:29Speaker 2: so he's able to actually like interact with stuff. That's
- 56:32Speaker 2: why no one really, no one really knew that he
- 56:36Speaker 2: was dead because he was still able to like, you know,
- 56:39Speaker 2: interact with the ship physically. But they restart the ship
- 56:43Speaker 2: and the artemist comes back online free from the infection,
- 56:46Speaker 2: and it reveals to them what it had detected. So
- 56:50Speaker 2: it not only detected the Colony ship attacking them, but
- 56:53Speaker 2: it also detected the signal that infected it, and it
- 56:58Speaker 2: was able to help them get the UH communications back
- 57:02Speaker 2: online and they detect and they detect that there was
- 57:05Speaker 2: another ship of a similar model to the Artemis, and
- 57:09Speaker 2: they make contact with it. UH. Then they actually UH
- 57:14Speaker 2: they were actually able to speak to the that ship's
- 57:18Speaker 2: AI and convince it to come to them for the rescue.
- 57:22Speaker 2: And the thing is, they didn't want to give up
- 57:25Speaker 2: the Artemis just yet, because the thing is, the Artimist
- 57:29Speaker 2: is R is currently the only ship AI that's in
- 57:31Speaker 2: the system that's not infected. So they come up with
- 57:34Speaker 2: a plan that if they can get if they can
- 57:37Speaker 2: get over to that other Artemis class ship, they can
- 57:41Speaker 2: transfer the Artemis AI from this ship to that one
- 57:43Speaker 2: because it's server, because it's AI core is compatible with
- 57:47Speaker 2: is compatible with Artemis. So they managed to take out
- 57:51Speaker 2: they managed to extract the Artemis's corps and get over
- 57:54Speaker 2: to the new ship. They discovered that there's only one person,
- 57:57Speaker 2: one crew member left alive on that ship. Well one
- 58:02Speaker 2: crew member and the robotic assistant as well, basically another
- 58:07Speaker 2: Rapscallion style AI. Uh. They get to that ship and
- 58:14Speaker 2: rap Scallion ends up having to fight that other that
- 58:17Speaker 2: other robot because it also had somehow been infected and
- 58:22Speaker 2: the last living crew member on the ship, as it
- 58:25Speaker 2: turns out, was infected that this was the one that
- 58:28Speaker 2: was infected with that OCD. Like they were aware that
- 58:32Speaker 2: they were infected with some something and they need to
- 58:35Speaker 2: try to get it out, and the only way he
- 58:36Speaker 2: could figure out how to get to it was by
- 58:39Speaker 2: vivisecting every crew member on the ship. Even the AI
- 58:43Speaker 2: itself was trying to dissect everything itself, like pull itself
- 58:47Speaker 2: apart and the wrap and the other and the other
- 58:50Speaker 2: robot was like slowly taking apart the ship as well,
- 58:55Speaker 2: So they unfortunately had to put the put that guy down,
- 58:59Speaker 2: and rap Scaleon is able to kill the other robot,
- 59:03Speaker 2: and they they disabled the ship's AI and they put
- 59:08Speaker 2: the Artemis in it. So cool, The Artemis is now
- 59:10Speaker 2: in a new still functioning ship. But when they try
- 59:14Speaker 2: to move the Artemists closer to the but when the
- 59:16Speaker 2: Artmists and Sam try to pile pilot the Artemist two,
- 59:20Speaker 2: we're gonna just call it the Artemist two. Closer to
- 59:24Speaker 2: the planet, they immediately see a reaction from all of
- 59:27Speaker 2: the other ships in orbit. They thought the other ships
- 59:30Speaker 2: were dead or disabled, kind of like how they had been.
- 59:34Speaker 2: But as soon as they start moving closer to the
- 59:36Speaker 2: ship closer to the planet, dozens of ship begins. Dozens
- 59:41Speaker 2: of ships immediately like turn towards them and just make
- 59:46Speaker 2: a b line towards the Artemist two.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Oh god, yep.
- 59:52Speaker 2: So unfortunately they can't go any further, but they do
- 59:56Speaker 2: notice they do get a transmission from another one of
- 59:59Speaker 2: the column ships and as it turns out, uh, these
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: people are still more or less alive, and they figured
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: they there has to be a way to get down
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: to the ship. It's get down to the planet. And
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: they get a signal from the other from another colony
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: ship that there might be a way for them to
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: do that, and they might be able to do it
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: by using by using like some of their like uh
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: like colony transports. Because unfortunately the are the arguments too
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: gets uh gets destroyed almost immediately because along with all
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: the other ships in the in orbit there's also a
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: security forces warship fully armed, so Rapscallion has to take Sam,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: has to upload Sam's consciousness into his own servers, and
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: the crew Rapscallion, alongside uh, Petrova and Xiang, make their
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: way back. Managed to escape over to the new colony ship.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: The Artemist two gets destroyed along with Artemis itself, and
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: now they're basically left without a way to get down
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: this ship, and they're stranded on another colony ship that's
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: infected with people who are who are afraid of the light.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: So they find these these colonists complete have been completely
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: living for the past year in total darkness, right they
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: shut down every light in the in the ship and
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: believe that if they allow light to touch them, they're
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: going to die. And one they when they get onto
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: the ship, before they even they were using their own
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: lights to navigate, and then they're almost immediately assaulted by
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: the ship's AI. The ship's AI had turned its holographic
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: it's hard light projectors into basically a U a avatar
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: of like just anger and rage, so like it would
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: it would appear it's avatar was like wandering would be
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: like was like patrolling the ship's corridor, and if it
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: detects any light sources turned on it immediately goes in
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: and attacks it and whoever is using the light. So
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: they learned this and they managed to narrowly avoid the
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: AI and they find the colonists, and they also find
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: that the colonists are being led by none other than
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Petrova's mother. Yeah, it's something. Petrova's mother is a controlling bitch,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: sounds like it. Betrova's mother takes him to the bridge
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: and explains something that she figured out what exactly has
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: been going on and had also figured out what is
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: infecting people. So, as it turns out, the Basilisk it
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: is an alien organism, but it's an alien construct. It
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: doesn't really have a physical form. It's built using like
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: some advanced metascience that basically allows it to exist in
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: a non corporal form. Now, the thing about the Basilist
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: is is that it's not a weapon, but rather a
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: guard it was built to h Basically, the the Basilist
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: itself exists as like a kind of like a net
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: or like a web that encircles all of Paradise One,
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: and its purpose is to keep anyone from from going
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: down onto the surface of the planet. Now, the original
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: colony when it was set up that when it when
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: the original colonists showed up to Paradise one and built
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: their and built their colony down on the planet at
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: that time, the Basilist had been asleep for so long
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: it didn't initially detect them until things started to go
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: weird down on the planet, and so the Basilist woke up,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: realized that there were people down on the surface and
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: immediately began to uh perform its function and keep any
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: more people from coming to the planet. So any time
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: more ships appeared, it would immediately attack them and infect
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: them with this you know, little earworm that would tell
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: them that, you know, like little intrusive thoughts, and it
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: would also control them as well, so it would give
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: them this order, this command to not allow anybody anywhere
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: near the planet, all right, which is why when why
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: when Petrova and the crew made it to the second
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Artemis ship and tried to go closer to the planet,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: all the other ships on the in orbit immediately attacked them.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: And it's also revealed that that the Basilist has an
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: intelligence of its own, so it is also like it's
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: like an AI but way more advanced. And the thing
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: is is that while it has performed its duty for
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: untold millions of years, possibly even billions of years, itself
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: had begun to wonder what what is down there on
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: the planet that it is that it's programming has driven
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: it to keep it from escaping, right, It's because it's
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: the basilist believes that its creators are extinct, Like they're
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: either extinct or they've completely left this region of space entirely.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: M so like, now that it's creators are no longer
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: around and it hasn't heard anything from them, it's decided
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: it wants to like, it wants to understand it was
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: created for a purpose, but it doesn't know what's down
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: there on the planet, and it itself can't go down
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: to the planet. It can it can only remain in
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: orbit or like around the planet, encircling the planet and
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: keeping anything from coming through. And the thing is is
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: that the BASc list began searching for somebody that was
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: capable of connecting with it without you know, dying, because
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: it wanted to use somebody as a host to go
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: down to the planet so that way it could see
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: for itself what was there, what it's been, what it's been, Uh,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: what it's been containing, and the Vasilisk tried to do
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: that with Petrova's mother. The thing is, Petrova's mother is uh,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: she's a straight up sociopath and she tricked she. Like
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: the thing is that the Vassilist is very intelligent, but
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: somehow Betrova's mother managed to trick it, and she like
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: basically possessing her. But now she's like, okay, cool, Like
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: I said, I I said I would take you down there,
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: but I didn't say exactly when. No, So it's so
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: basically she's got a chokehold on the Basilisk not and
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: she's like, listen, I'll help you keep people from going
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: down there, but like I want to be in control
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: of things. So she's basically like taken control of the
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: colony ship and this calling ship, and she's you know,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: been she's been telling like indulging in the people in
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: her peep in her colonists little earworm to keep up
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: to heap the lights off. But she herself isn't infected
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: because she's she's now hosting the Basilisk, and so like
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: when she's not around them, she'll go she'll hide up
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: on the bridge and like and have the lights turned
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: on and everything. Her daughter daughter Petrova really like realizes, Mom,
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: you are a psychotic bitch. And the thing is is
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: that petrov her mother tries to force Petrova and Jang
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: to be infected to take on the infection again. And
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: when the Bassilist begins to and she does this by
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: pulling up the ship's AI and has the ship Ai
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: try to like infect them directly again kind of like
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: how the other ship AI did, because the way that
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Petrova got directly infected was the ship's ai uh began
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: like basically grabbed her and started like using like a
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: light pattern to allow the infection to go to allow
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: to like get Petrova's mind infected. So Petrova's mother tried
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: to do the same thing with this ship's AI to
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: like infect her again. And when this happens, she actually
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: makes contact with the Basilisk itself and she speaks. She
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: breaks through to the Basilist and connects with it, and
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: she tells and that's where she learns that the bat
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: what the bascist wants, and it wants to like it's
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: still going to perform its function. Uh it's purpose to
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: keep anybody from leaving the plant from entering the planet.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: But she but it wants somebody to go down there,
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: uh with it, kind of like as a back like
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: as a passenger, and it wants her to. It wants
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: somebody to see, like to show it what's down there,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: what it's been protecting. So she makes an agreement with it.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: She's like, listen, my mom's a bitch. She's never going
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: to honor your agreement because she wants to stay in control.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: But if you come, if you if you leave her
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: for me, then I'll go down there. And it's like, okay, agreed.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: So it immediately possesses her body and it and it
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: leaves its and it leaves her mother, and her mother
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: doesn't immediately realize what happened, but when she does, she's like,
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: oh shit, because at that same point, the colonists on
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: her ship realize that, hey, you haven't been like following
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: the rules, so they attack her as I should mhm,
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: and uh. It's not immediately seen what had happened, but
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: it is implied that Petrova's mother is killed by the colonists. Petrova, Yeah,
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: Petrova jang and Rapscallion with Parker, and so they managed
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: to make it to one of the they managed to
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: reach one of the landers on the colony ship and
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: they and they're able to break through the blockade. Uh,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: they're able to break through the blockade because the Basilist
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: is still going to cope. It's still compelling people to
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: keep compelling the other ships to keep people off the planet.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: So they have to like basically do a blockade run
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: and the ship, their landing ship gets somewhat damaged, but
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: they managed to break the atmosphere and but and then
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: they make it down to the planet. They lands, they
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: find the planet's only settlement and it's completely empty, of.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: Course of it.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: And that's where the book ends.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: Of course it is because of course cliphanger, because of course.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Of course, because it's a cliffhanger. All right, it's a trilogy,
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: after all. What's a good trilogy without a clipbanger? Yeah,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: all right, just look at and Parry strikes back. Am
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I wrong? Though?
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: You're not wrong? Though?
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Mm hmmm mmmm.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: That is Paradise one. Catch us next week as we
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: talk about the sequel to Paradise one.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: X. That was right, is lit and.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Of course so that will be Revenant X. And then
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: what so eleventh? Oh so this year, Christmas lands on
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: a Thursday, y'all. So will there be an episode? Yes,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: there will be, and what will it be? On something
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: I'm doing, I'm trying to decide do I want something
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: fantasy or do I want something horror? Both of them
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: are Christmas theme. I'm trying to stade which one one
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: want to do, so I'll figure that out before recording.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Until then, Bye Bye eight
