Latest / The Uncensored Catholic / Show 26: Why Christians Do Not Follow Torah Law, part 2
Transcript
- 1:00Hey, y'all. In today's show, we're going to continue with what the
- 1:03Bible says, specifically the New Testament, about why Christians no longer follow Jewish
- 1:08laws and traditions, why we don't go to church on Saturday or the Temple
- 1:14on Saturday, but we actually go to church and have Mass on Sunday,
- 1:17why we don't keep kosher, etc. Etc. It's, you know,
- 1:22it's a very interesting topic. And yesterday we finished up Romans. Hopefully I
- 1:25can get through all the New Testament today, I'm not sure, and then
- 1:27we can. If I can, we'll start on the Early Church falls tomorrow.
- 1:30But we're going to now turn to Corinthian. So this is still Saint
- 1:34Paul. And it's really important to think about Saint Paul in this subject because
- 1:38you have to remember, Saint Paul was one of those Jewish scholars. He
- 1:45was one of the most religious followers of the law. I mean, he
- 1:49held the cloaks while they stoned Saint Peter. I meant Stephen to death because
- 1:57he violated the Jewish law, the Torah law. He persecuted Christians and was
- 2:02trying to kill destroy the church, the Christian Church because it refused to follow
- 2:08the Torah law. When he was converted and became a Christian, he completely
- 2:15abandoned the Torah law, the Mosaic traditions except for the Ten Commandments, and
- 2:24was very vocal and adamant and railed against the Judaizers who would force Christians to
- 2:30live by the Torah law. You cannot read the New Testament in any honest
- 2:38way and not understand this. I mean, it was so clear. And
- 2:42so we'll pick up with Corinthians nine twenty through twenty one. To the Jews.
- 2:46I made myself as a Jew to win the Jews to those under the
- 2:49law, as one under the law, though I am not, in order
- 2:52to win those under the law to those outside the law, as one outside
- 2:55the law, though I am not outside the law, but under ice law,
- 3:00to win those outside the law. Wow. You know. He even
- 3:05had a couple of his followers who were gentiles circumcised so he could go into
- 3:12the Jewish temple and try to tell them the truth about Jesus, that the
- 3:15old Order had passed, that there was now a new Covenant. I don't
- 3:20exactly know how they checked people going into the temple to make sure they were
- 3:23circumcised, but apparently they did, and so that was necessary. And the
- 3:27Jews didn't buy it and dragged him out and beat him almost to death,
- 3:30and then he was They wanted to put him to death, as they did
- 3:34Jesus, for violating the Sabbath and for as they saw it, blasphemy.
- 3:40And he appealed to Rome and said he would go to Rome and stayed his
- 3:46case there. But he was very well. In yesterday's show, we talked
- 3:53about what we said in Romans, about how to not make unnecessary offense,
- 3:58not to set up a boundary between us and others who follow different traditions,
- 4:03so that we can convince them of the truth of Jesus Christ. So he
- 4:09continued to follow many of the practices, some of the practices of the Torial
- 4:13law. But he says right here he's not under the law, He's under
- 4:17the new law of Jesus Christ. And he had no intention, except for
- 4:23one or two of his followers who he had to bring into the temples with
- 4:26him, of forcing anyone to follow Jewish tradition. In fact, he condemned
- 4:30it explicitly. Corinthians three six through eight. He has given us the competence
- 4:35to be ministers of a new covenant. A covenant was not written as letters,
- 4:40which is of the spirit, for the written letters kill, but the
- 4:44spirit gives life. Now if the administering of death engraved in the letters on
- 4:48stone occurred in such glory that the Israelites could not look Moses steadily in the
- 4:54face because of its glory transitory though this glory was how much were were the
- 4:59men history of the spirit occur in glory? Very clearly, Christians were no
- 5:03longer under the letter of the Mosaic Law, but they were under a new
- 5:09law, a law the spirit that gives life. The penalties of sin under
- 5:14the Mosaic law were death thou shalt not and if they do, you know
- 5:20you're gonna be put to death or you're gonna have eternal death in hell.
- 5:24Okay, And we still follow the Ten Commandments, of course, because they
- 5:29define mortal sin. You shouldn't kill. Obviously, you shouldn't commit adultry.
- 5:33We you know, we can go to this law line. But remember it
- 5:35was said that to violate even one letter of the law was to violate the
- 5:40entire law. That meant to eat a clam or a pork shop, or
- 5:46not to wash your hands in a ceremonial fashion, or to take too many
- 5:49steps on the Sabbath day was made you equally as guilty as one who worshiped
- 5:55idols or committed murder. That's why he says that the law leads to death,
- 6:01but the new law under Christ lives to life. The spirit gives life.
- 6:09That is very much part of the symbolism of Jesus being in the tomb
- 6:14for three days. Remember he died, he was buried, he laid in
- 6:17the tomb on the Jewish Sabbath. He by taking on the penalty of the
- 6:26Mosaic law, he was a sacrificial lamb. He was the one who died
- 6:32for all of us so that we may be freed from the law. And
- 6:35he rose again on Sunday. And he rose again on Sunday as God.
- 6:45You know, before he was the Messiah, he called himself the son of
- 6:46Man. When he was risen on Sunday, he was now glorified, identified
- 6:55and identifiable as God himself. And the Christian is a new man who goes
- 7:00to church on Sunday, not on the Jewish Sabbath, which leads only to
- 7:04death. According to Saint Paul, you know that's those are his words.
- 7:09Not mine. You know, I'm not criticizing the Jews at all. I
- 7:12mean, you know, I love the Jewish people. It's not even an
- 7:15issue. I am speaking as Saint Paul was speaking at the time, who
- 7:17was a Jew himself, and Jesus brings new life, a new church,
- 7:24a new law, everything new. On the first day of the new week.
- 7:30The old week had passed away, the old order had passed away,
- 7:33the old law passed away in his burial, and rose up new on Sunday
- 7:42Galatians two three through four, chapter nine, eleven through sixteen, and chapter
- 7:47twenty one. Even then, and although Titus of Greek was with me,
- 7:53there was no demand that he should be circumcised, because some false brothers who
- 7:58would secretly insinuate themselves a spy on the freedom that we have in Christ,
- 8:01intended to reduce us to slavery. Those are the Judaizers. He kept talking
- 8:07about, those who would take away the freedom we have in Christ and put
- 8:11us back under the Torah law. And when they acknowledge the grace that had
- 8:16been given to me, then James and Cephas and John who were the ones
- 8:18recognized as pillars, Cephas being Saint Peter, it's Aramaic for Peter. It's
- 8:24Aramaic for the Rock. Actually he's he's actually giving him the most proper explicit
- 8:30title as the Rock, which is who were the ones recognized as pillars the
- 8:37pillars of the church. You know what else should say in the Bible?
- 8:41The Bible is, you know, good for instruction understanding. But the Church
- 8:46is the pillar and foundation of the of the of the truth. The pillar
- 8:52was talented on the foundation, which is the Rock, which Jesus made Saint
- 8:56Peter. They offered their right hand to Barnabass and to me as a sign
- 9:01of partnership, and we were to go to the Gentiles, and they to
- 9:03the circumcised. However, when Cephus came to Antioch, then I did not
- 9:07oppose him to his face, since he was manifestly in the wrong. Again,
- 9:11the pope can make mistakes. He's only guaranteed from error in matters of
- 9:16morals and doctrine, and even those issues he's supposed to work out with the
- 9:22bishops. And Saint Paul would have been a bishop at this time. Before
- 9:26certain people from James came. He used to eat with the Gentiles, but
- 9:28as soon as these came he backed out. And kept apart from them,
- 9:31for he was a fear of the circumcise. We have to remember of Saint
- 9:35Peter, he was not always the bravest man. He's the one that denied
- 9:43Jesus. Jesus as he picked the Jews, the most fallible race in ancient
- 9:48in the ancient world, the smallest, most weak race, to start his
- 9:52first church. He picked the most fallible, weak man among the apostles to
- 9:58found his new church. Very good parallel there as well. You know,
- 10:03Saint Peter's not one of the sons of Thunder. He was not a zealot.
- 10:07He was the one whose faith was strong, but whose will was weak.
- 10:15And the rest of the Jews put on the same act as he did,
- 10:16and so that even Barnabas was carried away by their incecerity. And later
- 10:20I'll read from Barnabas man he was really against the Judaizers. He could have
- 10:24even considered anti Semitic, even though I think he was Jewish. When I
- 10:30saw, though that their behavior was not true to the Gospel, I said,
- 10:33to see if it's in front of them, all of them, since
- 10:35you, though you are a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like
- 10:39the Jews. How can you compel the gentiles to live like Jews have nevertheless
- 10:43learned that some is someone who's reckoned as upright, not by practicing the law,
- 10:48but by faith in Jesus Christ. And we two came to believe in
- 10:52Jesus Christ so as to be reckoned as upright by the faith in Christ,
- 10:56and not by practicing the law, since no human being can be found upright
- 11:01by keeping the law. Even Saint Peter himself fell into the trap of trying
- 11:07to go back to the Torah law. And here Saint Paul, the expert
- 11:13on Tora law, says no human being can be found upright by keeping the
- 11:18law. Well, that goes back to what was said of Abraham. You
- 11:22know, he was he was judged by his faith. Abraham was not circumcised.
- 11:28There was no Torah law at the time. He was, you know,
- 11:33favored by God. It was his faith in his willingness to sacrifice his
- 11:37son, which God said, of course, don't do. But here's very
- 11:39clear. We two came to believe in Jesus Christ so as to be reckoned
- 11:45his upright by faith in Christ, and not by practicing the law. Since
- 11:50no human being can be found upright by keeping the law. He goes on
- 11:54to say, I am not setting aside God's grace of no value. It
- 11:58is merely that if the saving justice come through the law, Christ died needlessly.
- 12:03Think about this now, If the Torah, if the Mosaic law moses
- 12:11to the modern version of the Torah, the most modest, certainly not modern,
- 12:16was sufficient, Jesus's sacrifice would have been unnecessary only because the law is
- 12:24insufficient. Was Jesus's sacrifice necessary if man could be saved to find salvation through
- 12:33his adherence to the law, through his actions, then Jesus's death, his
- 12:39sacrifice, his resurrection on behalf of fallen humanity who could not keep the law
- 12:46of God. As he said several times Jesus Christ himself to the Jews,
- 12:50you're doing this, but I want you to do this. You know,
- 12:54you say, follow these laws. I care about the conversion of your heart.
- 12:58No man can keep uphold the law in its entirety. Jesus's sacrifice would
- 13:03not be worthwhile. And you cannot believe that the laws too has to be
- 13:11upheld, even though Jesus came and died and was resurrected and all that,
- 13:18and believe that Jesus is the Messiah because the Messiah came to set free The
- 13:24two are incompatible positions. It's like Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen said, which I
- 13:31mentioned a couple of days ago. Many people now believe that Jesus was a
- 13:37very good man, even a prophet, a very wise man, but they
- 13:41don't believe in the divinity of Jesus. Well, Jesus who says he was
- 13:46God, who taught a completely new doctrine, who found in a new church,
- 13:52if he was not who he said he was, he was not a
- 13:54very good man at all. He was a very evil man. You have
- 13:58to act she believed the words of Jesus Christ and the authority he gave his
- 14:05apostles to be a Christian. You can't have it both ways. Jesus was
- 14:11either right and he was wrong. He could either do what he said he
- 14:13could or he couldn't. He could either give that authority or he couldn't.
- 14:18And he either gave us a new covenant and a new church or he didn't.
- 14:22Mixing up old Testament with new Testament, mixing up old law with new
- 14:28law is a better way to put it. Old traditions, Jewish traditions,
- 14:31with Christian traditions, which were founded and very vocally spoken of by the appropt
- 14:37by the Apostles and the early Church fathers as being distinctly separate from Jewish traditions.
- 14:45Is not Christian? Just remember did Jews crucify Christ because he violated the
- 14:52law? And Saint Paul here says he came to set us free from the
- 14:58law. Well, if you're free from the law, you're free from the
- 15:00law. In Galatians chapter three one through three, thirteen sixteen through nineteen,
- 15:07he says, you stupid people in Galatia, after you've had a clear Christian
- 15:11picture of Jesus Christ crucified right in front of your eyes, who has put
- 15:16a spell on you? There is only one thing I should like for you
- 15:18to tell me. How was it that you received the spirit? Was it
- 15:22by the practice of the law or by believing the message you heard? Having
- 15:26begun in the spirit? Can you be so stupid as to end in the
- 15:28flesh? That's pretty harsh, isn't it. What if I was to say
- 15:33that next time one of my neighbors came over and told me I was going
- 15:35to help for going to church on Sunday, because there's seven day Adventus or
- 15:39to observe at Christians pull out Galatians. How stupid are you for believing in
- 15:46the law? Yeah? Wow? Christ redeemed us from the curse of the
- 15:50law by being cursed for our sake, since the scripture says anyone hanged as
- 15:56a cursed because humanity could not fill the law to the letter and find salvation
- 16:02through our own merits. Jesus came and took on the curse and fulfilled it.
- 16:10You know, they say he couldn't change the law by one letter one
- 16:12I owe to no, but he could fulfill it. He could be the
- 16:15ultimate sacrifice so that no one else would ever be punished by the law.
- 16:21The consequences of violating the law, Remember it said in was It Acts yesterday
- 16:27Romans probably Romans Gentiles weren't under the law, but they were reconciled upright if
- 16:34they followed the maintenance of the law, essentially the ten commandments thou should not
- 16:40kill, thou should not steal. Gentiles were not judged for eating pork,
- 16:45for instance, Only the Jews were. Jesus said to the Jews when they
- 16:48asked him about divorce, he said that was because of the hardness of your
- 16:52hearts. It wasn't God's will that this you could have divorce. Moses gave
- 16:56you that law because of the hardness of your hearts. We got a lot
- 17:02more into that with the early Church fathers, and we just apologize up front
- 17:06to some of my Jewish listeners. Remember most of these guys that are really
- 17:12hard on the Jews, of the ancient Jews, not modern Jews, were
- 17:18Jewish themselves, and some of their words were really strong. But you have
- 17:22to remember they were being hunted to death by the Jewish officials who were trying
- 17:26to destroy the Church. But they make absolutely clear Christianity and Judaism was totally
- 17:34separate and different. After Christ was resurrected, new church, new rules,
- 17:40new laws, new practices, new traditions, the old put away, don't
- 17:45put your hand to plan and look backward, let the dead bury their dead,
- 17:48take up your cross and follow me and man, I mean, they
- 17:51did not mince words, and they absolutely condemned anyone that said a Christian was
- 17:56still to follow toward a law. Not only is it condemned in the Bible
- 18:00repeatedly, which anyone who reads the Bible ought to know. If you have
- 18:04a decent translation, to the Bible, but the early Church fathers went after
- 18:10him with hammers and tongs. I mean, seriously, wait till you hear
- 18:15what Barnabas had to say. Now, the promises were addressed to Abraham and
- 18:21his progeny, the words were not. The words were not and to his
- 18:25progeny's implural, but to the singular and to your progeny, which means Christ.
- 18:30What I am saying is this, once a will had been long ago
- 18:33ratified by God, the law, coming four hundred and thirty years later,
- 18:37did not abolish it, and so nullified its promise. You see, if
- 18:41the inherance comes by the law, it no longer comes to a promise.
- 18:45But it was a promise that God made to his gift to Abraham. But
- 18:49it was by a promise that God made his gift to Abraham. Then what
- 18:53is the purpose of the law. It was added to deal with the crimes
- 18:56until the progeny to whom that promise had been made should come, And it
- 19:02was promulgated through angels by the agency of an intermediary. The law was made
- 19:07for the crimes committed by the descendants of Abraham the Jews, until Jesus would
- 19:14come once Jesus came fulfilled, the law took on him all our penalties and
- 19:21punishments. The law had run its course, fulfilled its purpose, it was
- 19:26abrogated and was no more Galatians four one through eleven. What I am saying
- 19:33is this an error during their time while he's still under age, is no
- 19:37different from a slave, even though he is the owner of the properties under
- 19:41control of guardians and administrators until the time fixed by the fathers. So two
- 19:45with us, as long as we were still under age, we were enslaved
- 19:48the elemental principles of this world. But when the completion of time came,
- 19:52God said his son, born of a woman, born a subject of the
- 19:56law, to redeem the subjects of the law, so that we could receive
- 20:00of adoptions as sons. As you were sons. God has sent into our
- 20:03heart the spirit of his son, crying abba Father, so that you were
- 20:07no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then
- 20:10an heir by God's own act. But formerly you did not know God.
- 20:14You were kept in slavery to things which are not really God's at all.
- 20:18Whereas now that you have come to recognize God, or rather to be recognized
- 20:21by God, how can you turn your back to those powerless and bankrupt elements
- 20:25whose slaves you now want to be all over again? You were keeping special
- 20:30days and months and seasons and years. I am beginning to be afraid that
- 20:34I may, after all, have wasted my efforts on you. Strong words
- 20:38by Saint Paul. When they were under the law, they were slaves to
- 20:42the law. Now as Christians, they are heirs and freed from the law.
- 20:48He says, Jesus came to redeem the subjects of the law so that
- 20:52we could receive adoption of sons as sons. And he points out, now
- 20:59you are keeping special days and months and seasons and years, like, for
- 21:03instance, the Jewish Sabbath and all the Jewish holidays. There were many days.
- 21:10I mean, we just think of Hanaka and such, and that's actually
- 21:12not one of the most ancient You can read the book of Max Backupees and
- 21:17see where Hanaka came from. But you know there are certain days set aside
- 21:22in the Jewish calendar that these new Christians were saying they still had to celebrate.
- 21:26And Saint Paul is saying, because you're doing this, I have wasted
- 21:30my efforts on you. You were rejecting the gift given you by Jesus by
- 21:36continuing to follow the law and make yourself a slave and not an heir Galatians
- 21:41five one through four. Christ set us free so that we should remain free.
- 21:45Stand firmed them, and do not let yourself be fastened again to the
- 21:49yoke of slavery. I, Paul, give you my word that if you
- 21:53accept circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all. Think
- 21:57about that. Circumcision is actually in pretty common practice today. It shouldn't be
- 22:03certainly no religious significence to it for a Christian, and at some point doctors
- 22:10were saying it was more hygienic. That has not been proven true. If
- 22:14I ever have kids, my sons will not be circumcised. Really, because
- 22:18I can confuse people if they read the Bible, and here it says if
- 22:23you receive, if you accept circumcision, Christ will be able to benefit to
- 22:27you at all. How that would scare a kid pretty bad if they didn't
- 22:30have the maturity and the guidance of the Catholic Church telling what it means.
- 22:34But circumcision is is the keeping of the law. And like I said,
- 22:38to violate one tenant of the law was to violate all and circumcision was the
- 22:42outward sign. As I said, I'm not exactly sure how they checked this.
- 22:45When you walked into the temple, that would be a little freaky,
- 22:48But the outward appearance of the law said that you were under the law and
- 22:53had to obey all the letters of the law. He goes on to say,
- 22:59I give you my durrance once again to every man who accepts circumcision,
- 23:03that he is under obligation to keep the whole law. Once you seek to
- 23:07be reckoned as upright through the law, then you have separated yourself from Christ,
- 23:12and you have fallen away from grace. My Torah observant friends, and
- 23:18seven day Adventis, etc. And seven day Adventist, Messianic Jews, etc.
- 23:23Please read Galatians five one through four. Once you seek to be reckoned
- 23:30as upright through the law, then you have separated yourself from Christ, and
- 23:33you have fallen away from grace. Galatians six, seven through nine fifteen.
- 23:41Don't delude yourself. God is not to be fooled. Whatever someone sows,
- 23:45that is what he will reap. If this sowing is in the field of
- 23:48self indulgence. When it's the harvest comes from it, it will be corruption.
- 23:51If this sowing is in the spirit, then when the harvest from the
- 23:53spirit will be eternal life and lever, let us slacken in doing good.
- 23:57For if we do not about, we shall have our harvest in due time.
- 24:02It is not being circumcised or uncircumcised that matters, but what matters is
- 24:07a new creation. The new creation is the Christian baptized, who receives new
- 24:14life, especially through confirmation in the Catholic Church Ephesians two eight, two eight
- 24:21through ten, and thirteen through twenty one. For it is by grace that
- 24:25you have been saved through faith, not by anything of your own, but
- 24:27by a gift from God, not that anything you have done, so that
- 24:32nobody can claim the credit. We are God's work of art, created in
- 24:36Christ Jesus for the good works which God has already designated to make up our
- 24:38way of life. But now in Christ you used to be so far off
- 24:42and have been brought close by the blood of Christ. For He is the
- 24:47peace between us, and that has made the two and one entity and broken
- 24:51down the barrier which used to keep them apart by destroying his own person in
- 24:56by destroying in his own person the hostility that is the Law of Commandments with
- 25:00its decrees. His purpose in this was by restoring peace, to create a
- 25:07single new man out of the two of them, and through the cross,
- 25:14to reconcile them both to God and one body. In his own person,
- 25:17he killed the hostility. He came to bring the good news of peace to
- 25:21you who were far off, and peace to those who are near. Through
- 25:25him, Then we both the one Spirit, have free access to the Father.
- 25:30So you are no longer aliens or foreigners or foreign visitors. You are
- 25:33fellow citizens with the Holy people of God and part of God's household. You
- 25:37are built up hound the foundations of the apostles and prophets, again the foundation
- 25:41and piller of the Church, and Christ himself as the cornerstone. Every structure
- 25:47knit together, and him grows into a holy temple in the Lord. Before
- 25:52the coming of Jesus, the gentiles were cut off from the Holy people of
- 25:56God because he did not follow the law. God came. He brought the
- 26:00law to its conclusion, and he rises us up as new men under a
- 26:06new law, destroying in his own person the hostility that is the Law of
- 26:12Commandments with its decrees, The Law of Commandments with its decrees Colossians two thirteen
- 26:21through seventeen and twenty through twenty three. You were dead because you were sinners
- 26:25and uncircumcised in the body. He has brought you to life with him.
- 26:29He has forgiven every one of our sins. He has wiped out the record
- 26:32of our debt to the law which stood against us. He has destroyed it
- 26:36by nailing it to the cross. He has stripped the sovereignties and the ruled
- 26:38forces. He has paraded them in the public behind him in his triumphal procession.
- 26:45Then never let anyone criticize you for what you eat or drink, or
- 26:48about an observance of annual feasts, new Moons or Sabbath. They are a
- 26:52shadow of what is coming, the reality of the body of Jesus. Christ
- 26:59says, how clear can you be? Christ took the law, nailed it
- 27:02to the cross, and destroyed it. Do not let anyone criticize you about
- 27:07annual festivals, new moons and Sabbath. No, when your tour observant Christian
- 27:14friend says you have to go to church on Saturday, because that's what it
- 27:18says in the Old Testament. Just turn to Colossians and say, no,
- 27:23I go to church on Sunday, because the Bible says in the New Testament,
- 27:27we don't follow the old law anymore. If you have really died with
- 27:33Christ to the principles of this world, why do you still let rules dictate
- 27:37you as though you were still living in the world. Do not pick up
- 27:40this, do not eat that, do not touch the other, and all
- 27:42about things that perish, even why they are being used according to merely human
- 27:45commands and doctrines. In these rules you can indeed find what seems to be
- 27:51good sense, the cultivation of the will, and a humility which takes no
- 27:55account of the body, but in fact they have no value against self in
- 27:59dutchment in dulg okay, stop applying the tonal law to us, folks.
- 28:08If you've really died with Christ to the principles of this world, why do
- 28:12you still let rules dictate you as though you were still living in the world.
- 28:15And he just talked about the Jewish dietary restrictions, where I was talking
- 28:19about the Sabbath in the Last Passage and circumcision before that. First Timothy one
- 28:27through ten when I was setting out from Macedonia, or urge you stayoid ephesis
- 28:33to instruct certain people not to spread wrong teaching, or to give attention to
- 28:37myths and unending genealogies. Remember, the entire Jewish tradition is based on genealogies
- 28:45relation to Abraham being what gives you salvation. These things only foster doubts instead
- 28:48of further in God's plan, which is found an unfaith. The final goal
- 28:52at which this instruction aims is to love, issuing from a pure heart,
- 28:56a clear conscience, and sincere faith. Some people have missed the way to
- 29:00these things and turned the empty speculation, trying to be teachers of the law.
- 29:06But they understand neither the words they use nor the matters about which they
- 29:08make such strong assertions. We are well aware that the law is good,
- 29:12but only provided is used legitimately, on the understanding that laws are not framed
- 29:18for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are for criminals and
- 29:21insubordinate, for irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless.
- 29:26There for people who'll kill their fathers and mothers, and for murderers, for
- 29:30the promiscuous homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and perjurers for everything else that is
- 29:36contrary to the sound teachings according to the Gospel of the Glory of the Blessed
- 29:40God, the gospel that was entrusted to me. In other words, yeah,
- 29:42still keep the ten commandments. And you know he also is pretty strong
- 29:48against homosexuals. There. You know, we have a church now that's trying
- 29:51to normalize homosexuality. Yeah, that's it says several times of the Bible that
- 29:56homosexual sex will lead to hell, so we shouldn't do that. But that
- 30:03ignore don't listen to cut yourself off from people who are trying to apply the
- 30:11law of the Torah to the Christian The two are incompatible. Timothy four one
- 30:18through four. The Spirit has explicitly said during the Last Times that some will
- 30:22deserve the faith and pay attention to deceitful doctrines, spirits and doctrines that come
- 30:26from the devil, seduced by hypocrisy of liars, whose consciousness are branded with
- 30:32red hot irons. They forbid marriage and prohibit foods which God has created and
- 30:37to be accepted with thanksgiving by all who believe and who know the truth everything
- 30:41God has created is good, and no food is to be rejected, provided
- 30:45is received with thanksgiving, the word of God and prayer to make it holy.
- 30:49Many of the tour observant Christians say we're to keep the Jewish kosher dietary
- 30:55laws. Here the New Testament says plainly absolutely not. And many vegans and
- 31:00vegetarians say that Jesus want us to be vegetarians, even though he said specifically
- 31:07the opposite. And here it says no food is to be rejected providers received
- 31:11with thanksgiving, the Word of God and prayer to make it holy. Titus
- 31:17one five through fourteen. The reason I left you behind in Crete was for
- 31:19you to organize everything that still had to be done and appoint elders in every
- 31:25town. And the way that I told you that is, each of them
- 31:26must be a man of irreproachable character. A husband and one wife and his
- 31:30children's must be believers and not liable to be charged with a disorly conductor and
- 31:34subordination. Presiding elder has to be irreproachable, since he has God's representative.
- 31:40Never arrogant or hot tempered, nor a heavy drinker or violent or avaricious,
- 31:44but hospitable, and a lover of goodness, sensible, upright, devout,
- 31:48self controlled, and he must have a firm grasp on the unchanging message of
- 31:53the tradition, hold faster tradition. Yeah, so that he could be counted
- 32:00on for both giving encouragement to sound doctrine and for refuting those who argue against
- 32:07it. And in fact, there are many people who are insubordinate, who
- 32:10talk nonsense and try to make others believe it, particularly among those of the
- 32:15circumcision, those insisting that Christians must follow toward a law. What does he
- 32:21say about them? They must be silenced. People of this kind upset whole
- 32:24families by teaching them things they ought not to do, and doing it for
- 32:29the sake of sordid gain. It was one of themselves, one of their
- 32:31own prophets, who said Cretans were never anything but liars, dangerous animals,
- 32:37all greet and laziness. And that is a true statement. Okay, sorry,
- 32:40people have crete, but that's what Saint Paul thought. So be severe
- 32:45in correcting them and make them sound in their faith, so that they stop
- 32:50taking notice of Jewish myths and the orders of people who turn away from the
- 32:54truth. How clear is that he talks with the people sistem on circumcision,
- 33:00which means the Torial law. As I said, circumcision is symbolic of the
- 33:04entire law, and they stop taking notice of Jewish myths. I'm exasperated.
- 33:15Some of the debates I get into, especially online, are utterly exasperating.
- 33:22When you have to say, I'm sorry, Have you ever read the New
- 33:25Testament? Do you just discount everything Saint Paul ever said? What about Saint
- 33:30Peter, Saint James? Is there anything in the New Testament you actually believe?
- 33:35Then? How can you be a Christian? Tied Us three eight through
- 33:38nine. This doctrine that you can rely on. I want you to quit.
- 33:42I want you to be quite uncompromising in teaching all of this, so
- 33:46that those who now believe in God may keep their minds constantly occupied in doing
- 33:51good works. All this is good and useful to everybody. But avoid all
- 33:55fool of speculations and those genealogies, and the quibbles and disputes about the law.
- 34:00They are useless and futile Hebrews seven eleven through nineteen. Now, if
- 34:05perfection had been reached through the levitical priesthood, the a lot of these tour
- 34:10obsorted Christians again keep calling themselves modern levites, and that's actually a genealogical thing.
- 34:15I'm not really getting that. But let's go back to the original meeting.
- 34:20Now. If perfection had been reached through the levitical priesthood, and this
- 34:23was the basis of the law given to the people, why was it not
- 34:28necessary for a different for a different kind of priest to arise, spoken of
- 34:31as being of the order of Malchisedek rather than the order of Erin. Any
- 34:37change in the priesthood must mean a change in the law as well. So
- 34:40our Lord, of whom these things were said, belonged to a different tribe,
- 34:45the members of which had never done service at the altar. Everyone knows
- 34:49he came from Judah, a tribe which Moses did not mention it all.
- 34:51When dealing with priests, this becomes even more clearly evident if another priest of
- 34:55the type of Melchisedek arises, who was a priest not the virtue of the
- 35:00law of physical descent, but in virtue of power of an indestructible life.
- 35:05For he is attested to by the prophecy your priests forever after the order of
- 35:08Malkizadek. The earlier commandment of the is thus abolished. The earlier commandment is
- 35:15thus abolished because of its weakness and its ineffectiveness, since the law which could
- 35:20not make anything perfect. But now this commandment is replaced by something better,
- 35:25the hope that brings us closer to God. Now, Kizadek is an interesting
- 35:30figure in the Old Testament. He's the one who Abraham went to and who
- 35:34blessed Abraham. So there was a true religion before Abraham. Abraham was deemed
- 35:42righteous by his faith and not by the law, because the law had not
- 35:45been given yet. And here Moses appoints the Levites and sets up the entire
- 35:52levitical toural law, and very clearly in Hebrew seven eleven through nineteen were told
- 35:59that was insufficient, inferior, inferior, and replaced by Jesus, a priestaff
- 36:06of the order of Melchisedek with a new law Hebrews eight six or seven and
- 36:10thirteen. As it is, he has been given a ministry as far superior
- 36:15as is the Covenant, which is of which he is the mediator, which
- 36:20is founded on better promises. If that first covenant had been faultless, it
- 36:23would have been no room for a second one to replace it. If the
- 36:28law of Moses had been sufficient, there'd be no need for Jesus. If
- 36:31the law of Jesus is not sufficient and there's still room for Moses's law,
- 36:37then Jesus, Jesus Christ's sacrifice was insufficient, and Jesus can't be God if
- 36:45that's the case, And you can't call yourself a Christian and believe both ideas
- 36:50at the same time. By speaking of a new Covenant, he implies that
- 36:54the first one is old, and anything old and aging is ready to disappear.
- 37:00How was Hebrews eight thirteen Hebrews nine eighth through fifteen. By this,
- 37:06the Holy Spirit means means us to see that as long as the old tent
- 37:10stands, the way into the Holy Place is not opened up. It is
- 37:15a symbol for this present time. None of the gifts and sacrifice is offered
- 37:19under these regulations can possibly bring any worshiper to perfection in his conscience. They
- 37:25are rules about outward life, connected with food and drink and washing at various
- 37:30times, which are enforced only until the time comes to set things right.
- 37:36But now Christ has come as the high priest of all blessings which were to
- 37:39come. He has passed through the greater, the more perfect tint not made
- 37:44by human hands, that is not of this created order. But he is
- 37:47in the sanctuary once and for all, taking with him not the blood of
- 37:51goats and bulls and calves, but his own blood, having won an eternal
- 37:55redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a half or
- 38:00sprinkling of those who have incurred defile it. Defilement may restore their body their
- 38:05bodily purit may restore their bodily purity. How much more, with the blood
- 38:10of Christ, who offered himself blameless as he was to God, through the
- 38:15eternal Spirit, purify our conscience from dead actions, so that we can worship
- 38:20the living God. This makes him the mediator of a new covenant, so
- 38:23that now a death has occurred to redeem the sins committed under an earlier covenant.
- 38:30Those who have been called to an eternal inheritance may receive the promise Hebrews
- 38:38ten thick six or ten. You receive no pleasure in burnt offerings or sacrifice
- 38:43for sin, then I said here I am coming. In the scroll of
- 38:46the book is written of me to do your will God. He says,
- 38:51first, you did not want what the law lays down as the things to
- 38:54be offered, that is the sacrifices, the serial offers offerings, the offerings
- 39:00and the sacrifices for sin, and you took no pleasure in them. And
- 39:05he says, here I am, I am coming to do your will.
- 39:07He is abolishing the first sort to establish the second. And this was all
- 39:13for us to be made holy by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ,
- 39:17made once and for all. As I said, I don't understand how
- 39:22you can read the New Testament and still think Christians are supposed to follow tour
- 39:24a law. It is specifically said, done over new law. New Testament
- 39:34died nailed to the Christ with Jesus. New Man rose up. No more
- 39:38the regulations that were just he said, regulations on behavior or regulations for the
- 39:46body. Don't eat this, do eat this, be here on this day,
- 39:50do this on this day, wash your hands, don't walk more than
- 39:53you know so many feet on this day, etc. Etc. Just pick
- 39:59up the book at Viticus. I mean, look, if you have a
- 40:00minor translation of the Torah and the Talament, and all that, and you
- 40:05really want to go through and see really how complex all this stuff. Seriously
- 40:09is, go for it. But most Protestants say the Bible a loan,
- 40:14so they're really just going by the Old Testament in this case. And you
- 40:21know the books of Moses, especially Leviticus for the complicated stuff. Okay,
- 40:27look at that, and now look at what the New Testament says. The
- 40:30New Testament says, Jesus abolished it. It was no longer worth while it
- 40:35was not doing what he wanted. He won a conversion of heart, and
- 40:39for humanity that could not uphold the law, he came and died, killed
- 40:45the law fulfilled the law, gave us a new law and new covenant.
- 40:50And tomorrow, as Hank Williams Senior used to say, the good Lord William,
- 40:54the creek don't rise. I love Hank Williams. I'm a huge Henk
- 40:58Williams fan. By the way, Hank Williams left you for ze Roy Acuff
- 41:01Ray Price. I love that stuff that's neither here or there. Just how
- 41:07I always remember that. He's say, friends, I'll talk to you Marth.
- 41:09The good Lord William the creek don't rise. Well, anyway, if
- 41:13that be the case, we'll try to begin getting into what the early church
- 41:17fathers said about Jewish traditions in the law. This will probably be another two
- 41:22parter, and I mean, we're gonna hit with Pope Saint Clement, We're
- 41:27gonna hit with Saint Barnabas, Polycarp, Saint Polycarp, Saint Justin Martyr.
- 41:35The earliest Church, those who actually learned from the apostles, were ordained by
- 41:38the apostles who learned directly from Jesus Christ. They made it clear. I
- 41:45mean, they literally said, we are Christians, we are not Jews,
- 41:50and we do not follow Jewish traditions. And the Jewish people who do follow
- 41:53Jewish traditions have no part of us until they're ready to abandon the Jewish traditions
- 42:00and in the temple, abandon the Jewish Sabbath, all Jewish Kosher traditions,
- 42:04dietary traditions, holidays, circumcision even and become Christians. And it's some of
- 42:12it's going to be a little tough to hear, because, like I said,
- 42:14they were literally at war at this time. They were at war.
- 42:16The Jewish religious cultural leaders were trying to kill them, and they were meanwhile
- 42:23going into the synagogues and preaching the Gospel to the Jews, and through their
- 42:30uncompromising, even jelical efforts, they converted about half of the Jews to Christianity
- 42:39in the first couple of centuries, and then would go on to convert Rome
- 42:44and Greece and the entire you know, the entirety of Europe, most of
- 42:49Asia, eventually the New World, most of Africa and North Africa at least.
- 42:57I mean, they literally did take every risk and every controversy as boldly
- 43:07as they possibly could, put their own lives in danger every single day to
- 43:13give us this tradition, and it's up to us now to uphold it and
- 43:17not to be led astray, like Saint Paul was saying, others by those
- 43:22who have seductive arguments, saying you still have to follow toward a law,
- 43:27because he said, plainly, you don't, and you really shouldn't, and
- 43:30if you believe in it, you're not even Christian. So that's what the
- 43:35Bible says. It's not what I'm saying. It's not like my interpretation of
- 43:38the Bible. It's not one of like the Book of Daniel, where I'm
- 43:40looking at like you know, these symbolic passengers. You know, this is
- 43:45like when Jesus said, truly, truly, I say to you, you
- 43:49know, truly, truly, this is what was being said. And anyway,
- 43:52y'all, in the words of Saint Padripia, pray, hope and don't
- 43:58worry, and I will talk to you tomorrow
