Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And it's got to Gavin Gray, a UK europe correspondent,
- 0:02Speaker 1: Given Stam has just spoken sending some more fangits to Kata.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yes for typhoon jets, but I'm afraid he's still being
- 0:10Speaker 2: accused widely of having completely misjudged this whole requirement to
- 0:17Speaker 2: put defenses into Cypress. Cypress is where Britain has an
- 0:21Speaker 2: raf based arif at Creteri, which had a drone attack
- 0:26Speaker 2: which damaged the runway earlier in the week. Now the
- 0:29Speaker 2: UK is sending a frigate a ship, but it won't
- 0:33Speaker 2: be ready until next week, and that means that it
- 0:35Speaker 2: won't get there for probably a week from now. Other
- 0:38Speaker 2: European nations, though, are very quickly jumping into this void Italy, France, Spain,
- 0:43Speaker 2: the Netherlands or sending naval assets Greece as well joining
- 0:47Speaker 2: in with anti drone materials, and frankly, many people think
- 0:51Speaker 2: Kirstarmer has been caught rather napping on this, plus the fact,
- 0:54Speaker 2: rather embarrassingly for him, the first flight, that was the
- 0:59Speaker 2: government chart flight out of the Middle East for people
- 1:01Speaker 2: who were stuck there, had been delayed for some engineering problems.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It has now taken off, but I think Sir kir
- 1:09Speaker 2: starm has got an uphill battle to convince people he's
- 1:11Speaker 2: doing the right thing.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Kevin Spain Caroline Live at yesterday.
- 1:15Speaker 3: With respect to Spain, I think they heard the President's
- 1:18Speaker 3: message yesterday loud and clear, and it's my understanding over
- 1:22Speaker 3: the past several hours they've agreed to cooperate with the
- 1:25Speaker 3: US military, and so I know that the US military
- 1:28Speaker 3: is coordinating with their counterparts in Spain.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Now the Spanish maids something to say about that, haven't they?
- 1:34Speaker 2: They sure have. They've categorically rejected that. They said that
- 1:38Speaker 2: our opinion opposition has not changed at all. So is
- 1:42Speaker 2: this another misspeak from the Trump administration and it's spokespeople, Well,
- 1:48Speaker 2: Spain says it absolutely is. They're completely dismissing Caroline Levitt's
- 1:53Speaker 2: words there. Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, has
- 1:57Speaker 2: been very quick to say no to war. This is
- 1:59Speaker 2: a disaster in the Middle East, it'll be a disaster
- 2:02Speaker 2: for the wider world. President Trump has had a real
- 2:05Speaker 2: go at him saying they're going to sever tize with Spain.
- 2:08Speaker 2: But incidentally, it's very interesting that Aransha ganzale is, the
- 2:12Speaker 2: former Foreign Minister of Spain saying, you know what is
- 2:15Speaker 2: interesting that Trump has attacked the British Prime Minister, the
- 2:17Speaker 2: Ukrainian president, Denmark's Metafredicson and now the Spanish Prime minister.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Why well, they've all got in common the fact they've
- 2:24Speaker 2: said no to him, and I think a great deal
- 2:27Speaker 2: of European sentiment now going the way that we need
- 2:29Speaker 2: to look after ourselves and not worry too much about
- 2:32Speaker 2: what Donald Trump is saying about our leaders.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah, an insult from Trump no longer carries the same weight,
- 2:37Speaker 1: does it. Appreciate your time? Gavin Grande, our UK europe correspondent.
