- 0:18Speaker 1: Last episode of twenty twenty two. Wow.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You know, when I stop and look back at this year,
- 0:31Speaker 2: the way that I do that is typically just kind
- 0:34Speaker 2: of scrolling through my camera roll and reading through my journal,
- 0:38Speaker 2: and I feel as.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Though, maybe more than any.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Year of recent memory anyway, that this one felt like
- 0:50Speaker 2: it both crawled by and also went by in the
- 0:56Speaker 2: blank of an eye.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It has been.
- 1:00Speaker 2: A year for me filled with so much growth, and
- 1:07Speaker 2: I really did navigate so many things that were both
- 1:11Speaker 2: unanticipated and also really good for me in that they've
- 1:18Speaker 2: shaped me into this version of myself that is really
- 1:24Speaker 2: ready for whatever is going to come next. When I
- 1:27Speaker 2: think about what it is that I want in twenty
- 1:29Speaker 2: twenty three, a lot of it involves me leveling up.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It involves me putting myself out there in ways that
- 1:38Speaker 2: maybe I haven't just yet. And that's not just in business,
- 1:43Speaker 2: that's in my personal life, it's in my platonic relationships.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I am ready to take things to a place that
- 1:53Speaker 2: makes me right now feel both giddy and a little uncomfortable. Now,
- 1:59Speaker 2: before before we get to this place, before we turn
- 2:03Speaker 2: the page into the new year, I do have to
- 2:08Speaker 2: take a moment and reflect on a decision I made
- 2:12Speaker 2: this week.
- 2:13Speaker 1: That makes me really proud of me.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I am not a person that is good on uh
- 2:20Speaker 2: or at excuse me sitting still. I am a person
- 2:24Speaker 2: that likes to have a full schedule. I definitely definitely
- 2:31Speaker 2: am subpar at taking time off from work, and so
- 2:38Speaker 2: up until earlier this week, I had fully intended to
- 2:43Speaker 2: publish episodes of the show next week, and that would
- 2:47Speaker 2: be leading up to the series that has now become
- 2:52Speaker 2: a constant here on the show, the Turning the Page series,
- 2:55Speaker 2: with five back to back episodes to kick off the
- 2:59Speaker 2: new year here on Hurdle.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But then I asked myself.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Why why was I so determined to keep going and
- 3:14Speaker 2: do so knowing that so many other individuals were planning
- 3:20Speaker 2: and our planning excuse me to take off the time
- 3:22Speaker 2: to take a beat, to do a little inventory, maybe
- 3:28Speaker 2: before turning the page before January first.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And I realized that I just didn't have a good answer.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Especially because I am my own boss, I make my
- 3:40Speaker 2: own decisions, and Hurdle is due for a season break.
- 3:46Speaker 2: My answer would have been because this is what I
- 3:50Speaker 2: always do, and this is the learning that I want
- 3:54Speaker 2: to share with you. In this last episode of twenty
- 3:58Speaker 2: twenty two. Just because this is how things have always
- 4:03Speaker 2: been doesn't mean that's the way that they need to
- 4:05Speaker 2: be going forward. Just because a pattern has felt comfortable
- 4:09Speaker 2: in the past, so that does not mean that you
- 4:11Speaker 2: cannot break it and find new comfort in a new
- 4:14Speaker 2: routine moving forward. Every single moment of every single day,
- 4:20Speaker 2: we have the opportunity to have some input on what
- 4:24Speaker 2: happens next. And trust me, I know that just saying
- 4:27Speaker 2: the blanket statement, oh well, you have all of the control.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You are in charge of what happens moving forward, like
- 4:33Speaker 2: to an extent, yes, but things happen that are beyond
- 4:36Speaker 2: our control. Life happens, emotions happen. And as much as
- 4:44Speaker 2: I want to tell you and empower you that every
- 4:47Speaker 2: single second is yours for the taking, I understand, especially
- 4:50Speaker 2: after the last year, especially gosh, after navigating what it
- 4:55Speaker 2: felt like to be so stuck at one point last February,
- 5:02Speaker 2: I know that's not always the case. So what I
- 5:05Speaker 2: tell you today, I promise you is true, is that
- 5:10Speaker 2: every single second is an opportunity to start fresh. And
- 5:14Speaker 2: if you are listening to this before January first of
- 5:17Speaker 2: twenty three, or after it, whatever, whenever, know that you
- 5:22Speaker 2: don't have to wait until some arbitrary date that someone
- 5:25Speaker 2: else tells you is the time to start anew And
- 5:30Speaker 2: so I'm breaking my own pattern. This is the last
- 5:34Speaker 2: episode of twenty twenty two. Am I the only one
- 5:38Speaker 2: that has to keep like giving herself a moment of
- 5:40Speaker 2: pause to make sure she's saying the right date line.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Anyway, It's the last episode, and when I come back
- 5:48Speaker 2: to you on January second of twenty twenty three, I
- 5:55Speaker 2: promise that we will celebrate all that is the turning
- 5:59Speaker 2: of the page, five years of hurdle and all of
- 6:06Speaker 2: the winds small and big that have led us to
- 6:10Speaker 2: where we are in this moment, knowing that just as
- 6:14Speaker 2: you are, you you're worthy.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That's it. That's it for this week.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Of course, A prompt for you, what is one thing
- 6:27Speaker 2: you are looking forward to mixing up when we turn
- 6:32Speaker 2: the page? What is one thing that you are looking
- 6:36Speaker 2: forward to mixing up? Maybe a pattern, a behavior that
- 6:40Speaker 2: you're willing to walk away.
- 6:42Speaker 1: From in the new year. And now a listener question.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Hey, I'm big fan of the show.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Quick question, what is an underra to join your life?
- 6:53Speaker 2: I know exactly who submitted this question. I can tell
- 6:56Speaker 2: by his beautiful voice.
- 7:01Speaker 1: In the New Year.
- 7:01Speaker 2: If you've never left me a voicemail and asked me
- 7:03Speaker 2: a question, please do it. I would love that. There's
- 7:07Speaker 2: only in the show notes for you to get on
- 7:09Speaker 2: that rate. In this moment, Willie, I'm calling you out
- 7:14Speaker 2: underrated joy. What an interesting term. I off the bad
- 7:18Speaker 2: thought of two, so I'm going to roll with it.
- 7:20Speaker 2: The first one is when I get into my bed
- 7:24Speaker 2: and it's chillier in my apartment. I don't use a
- 7:27Speaker 2: ton of heat in here because I love to dress
- 7:30Speaker 2: in sweatshirts and sweatpants, but I have the eight sleep
- 7:33Speaker 2: mattress topper the pod cover, and you can turn up
- 7:38Speaker 2: the heat on the pod cover, and so getting into
- 7:41Speaker 2: a warm bed at the end of a long day,
- 7:44Speaker 2: oh my god, that is a pure underrated joy for me.
- 7:49Speaker 2: And I would say the second massive joy that I
- 7:53Speaker 2: do not I think maybe stop to appreciate enough. And
- 7:58Speaker 2: this is like a very New York thing I would say,
- 8:01Speaker 2: is smiling at strangers, like there is nothing better than
- 8:06Speaker 2: getting on a subway or being on the street, maybe
- 8:09Speaker 2: more so now with just masks and life gestures loosely
- 8:14Speaker 2: and smiling at someone and seeing like their kind of
- 8:18Speaker 2: shock and beautiful response, knowing that that smile was just
- 8:23Speaker 2: like such an awesome gift to give to someone else.
- 8:27Speaker 2: And I always walk away from that interaction hoping that
- 8:30Speaker 2: that encourages them to maybe smile at somebody else or
- 8:35Speaker 2: do something nice, or pause and find a little bit
- 8:41Speaker 2: happy and whatever they have going on, so underrated joy
- 8:45Speaker 2: smiling at strangers.
- 8:47Speaker 1: That's it for this week.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Happy holidays, and thank you, truly from the bottom of
- 8:53Speaker 2: my heart for listening, just listening. You know, I'm better
- 9:00Speaker 2: because of every single person that is doing that right
- 9:03Speaker 2: now At Emily a Body at Hurdle podcast, another hurdle conquered.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Catch you guys next year.
