- 0:06Speaker 1: the north florida sports network.
- 0:08Speaker 1: All right, welcome back.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's the north florida sports network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You know we're going to talk about some fsu baseball today, today as they finish the regular season 39 and 12, 17 and 12 in the acc man.
- 0:30Speaker 1: They almost got to 40 in the regular season man yeah, yeah, I mean, I'm not over that.
- 0:37Speaker 2: That lost a pit.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, 17 strikeouts from jamie arnold.
- 0:42Speaker 2: That's, that's the.
- 0:42Speaker 2: That's your 40th win right there, oh yeah and you blew it.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Well, you know, it's been a great year for FSU.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it has.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I mean, if I had asked you before the season started, based on last year and what you projected going into this year, if you thought they would go 39-12, you would have said no.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Depends.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I mean probably, yeah, no, especially if you would have thrown in that you're going to be without two or three guys that they were depending on in the bullpen.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You're going to lose Leiter for half of the conference season but at the same time, if you would have told me that Jamie Arnold is going to be arguably the best pitcher in conference and James Tibbs is going to win player of the year just got announced today, I don't know man Player of the year.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I would have said postseason definitely.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I think they've definitely exceeded expectations, though Still some frustrating losses on the season.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I think they could be sitting a little bit better.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But you know, whatever, as it stands right now?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Where would you predict like they'd fall in in terms of the postseason?
- 1:58Speaker 1: You know standings.
- 2:00Speaker 2: If they just did away with conference tournaments, which I wish they would do.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that doesn't make sense.
- 2:07Speaker 2: They're the dumbest thing ever.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So they're going to play.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Charlotte and they're going to play Tuesday against number nine, georgia Tech.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Well, the ACC does something.
- 2:19Speaker 2: They do pool play, four three-team pools.
- 2:23Speaker 2: There's 12 teams that make the tournament.
- 2:25Speaker 2: They break them into four groups.
- 2:29Speaker 1: What number were we?
- 2:30Speaker 2: We were the fifth seed, so we're in a group with Georgia Tech, who we play tomorrow for the fourth consecutive Virginia was the four.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Dude, I legitimately want to see every single team go one and one and have their heads explode trying to figure out who who go.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It's the dumbest thing ever.
- 2:50Speaker 1: It's a waste of arms.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just stupid.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Uh, most of the seating is already determined before they even start this.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Uh, you know, like any, any national seeds, they're pretty much wrapped up, right?
- 3:03Speaker 2: You know, florida state could run this whole tournament, win their pool, win the tournament, and I still don't think that they would give them a national seed, right, that's what.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I'd ask you yeah, because they'd only get a chance to play what four games?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:17Speaker 1: You win your pool, so they take all the pool winners and they put them in a semifinal.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And let's say, you do that and you win at Florida State and you beat Virginia, but that's the only really ranked team or team from the ACC that's going to the postseason that you play, because everybody else is just pretty much packed it in for the tournament.
- 3:35Speaker 2: You don't really prove anything.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Now you've run through your arms, run through your bullpen and you got your regional coming up the very next weekend.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's just stupid.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Do you think this is going to be treated?
- 3:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's only a couple days rest.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I doubt you'll see any legitimate starter.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think you'll see just what amounts to a midweek pitching performance Regional starts Starts a week from this coming weekend, so in two weeks they'll be getting kicked off.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I expect Florida State to host the regional.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I don't think they'll get a national seed, so they'll be matched up with one of the national seeds, likely an SEC team for Supers.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You know, that's just.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good guess.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you know they do it regionally.
- 4:23Speaker 2: They don like to to make teams travel a whole lot if they don't have to.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I mean there was the one year they sent fsu to oregon um, for the super regional ended up winning that, so it was.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But more than likely you're going to see us play somebody like georgia or tennessee, kentucky and the supers.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Should you make it that far, I expect Clemson and UNC to get the two from the ACC.
- 4:49Speaker 2: That third one I don't know.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I don't know if there's going to be a third team from the ACC getting that national seed.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Florida State was in line for it, wake Forest was in line for it, even Virginia, and they all kind of just laid an egg the last couple weeks.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You think UNC and Clemson will both get national?
- 5:12Speaker 2: seats Right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I think they've been locked in for a couple of weeks.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Clemson got swept by Wake Forest and that didn't really even affect any kind of rankings for them.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Like I said, they have their mind made up what the seating is going to be for all intensive purposes before conference tournament starts.
- 5:32Speaker 2: This is just kind of moneymaker for Charlotte, I guess.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Well, um, college football less than a hundred days, anything that's got you fired up or worried no, I mean worried is just kind of depends on where you set your expectation for the season yeah, um, where do you set?
- 6:02Speaker 2: yours right now is is I think if they get to the end of the year and there's still a shot at making charlotte, then that you know that's.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I don't want it to be any worse than that, um, but I don't know that it can be any better either.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think people are going to be Like I said, the closer it gets I'm going to get more pessimistic about DJ being the quarterback, just to people's expectation of what he's going to make the offense look like.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think they'll be able to take downfield shots, but honestly I'm not sure I want to see an offense where he's throwing it.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You know, 30 to 40 times a game.
- 6:43Speaker 2: No.
- 6:44Speaker 1: No, you want to run the ball.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I just you know the running game and how legitimate the defense is this year is going to really determine whether or not they get a shot at winning the conference.
- 6:56Speaker 2: You know the receivers.
- 6:59Speaker 2: If somebody steps up and proves that they're a game breaker and, and you know, like a big time player, then great.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But until that happens you might as well just go in expecting that they're just going to be kind of like a workman.
- 7:11Speaker 1: That's my biggest question.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's the biggest question mark for for me is the wide receiver position in general.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, who's gonna?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Who's gonna step up?
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean you're, you're losing so much well, you lost your.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You lost your walking mismatch.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You know your six foot six guy with ridiculous wingspan and ability to go up and get the ball.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You lost your first first round draft pick receiver.
- 7:34Speaker 2: And keon coleman, let's be honest.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Um.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So yeah, you're gonna have to really replace a lot there, and if they could just be solid as a group, that would be something um like any.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Nobody needs to step up and put up like 1500 yard.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean, it'd be great if they but just be able to be relied on.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, let's see what else we got.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean, it's really not.
- 8:02Speaker 1: We got some high school baseball yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I saw Lincoln.
- 8:06Speaker 2: They dropped the regional final, two wins away from being state champs.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, almost did it.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Childs made a run.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Yep Lounds won their state title game up in Georgia.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Then you get to I mean right now, I guess it's the NBA playoffs, yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Well, I mean, once regionals and college baseball start, pretty soon it will be college World.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Series.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But the playoffs man I mean the Nuggets going down has got to be the.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a big shocker for me.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You know I picked the Celtics Nuggets, although I didn't really watch much of the regular season.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I kind of Right when the Nuggets got the 3-2 lead, you thought, all right, well, they got it yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Damn sure didn't think that Minnesota wasnesota was gonna win they came back and really put it to them in game six, I mean with a 45 point win, but then to go on the road in denver come back from 20 down 20 down in the third quarter, in a night where your poster, your your star, anthony richardson, only scored 16 yeah, man shows a lot they had like seven or eight guys in double figures and carl anthony town showed up it's gonna be a really good series and they're playing dallas, yeah both teams uh put off the upset.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You know, dallas knocked out okc.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't really mean based on seeding, yeah, but that that's going to be a good one.
- 9:41Speaker 1: The Eastern Conference, I mean, come on, nobody expects the Pacers to do anything.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'd be surprised if they won a game, although the Celtics will probably give them one.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they're going to have to shoot like they did last night Every game, right?
- 9:54Speaker 1: I just don't know how they're going to have to shoot like they did last night, every game Right.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I just don't know how they're going to stop Boston offensively.
- 9:59Speaker 1: They can't stop anybody yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So I mean that should be easy.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And then the West has been the funnest side, the most fun, sorry.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Right, boston is just kind of getting boring.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You know, like I get it, they do it without.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to call Jason Tatum a superstar, I guess Ain't a guess.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Well, that's the question mark for me.
- 10:26Speaker 1: He's not the closer that's going to be.
- 10:29Speaker 1: We'll find out in the finals.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I would pick Minnesota or Dallas.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I'm really hoping that Minnesota can beat Dallas Right.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I would like to see Anthony Edwards in the finals against Boston.
- 10:44Speaker 1: The moves they got that Levert kid from Duke.
- 10:48Speaker 1: He's been showing up.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 1: He made a difference in that series off Chet Holmgren.
- 10:53Speaker 1: He was able to put some physicality to Holmgren.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Series off the chet holmgren.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He was able to put some physicality to holmgren.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Um, but they, they a lot of the moves.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Is the role players that dallas got really made the difference this year yeah, um, you know, jason kidd man, I mean dude's a good coach.
- 11:09Speaker 2: yeah, I, I don't know man.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Man Luka is dude, he's one of the best in the game, but I just I don't know Till he does it, till he comes through in the clutch.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Well, that game the other night if they threw down game six against the Thunder was a great game.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, oklahoma City came out ready, they had the lead almost the whole game and Dallas was just hanging around and kairi decided to show up that's the uh, that's the difference maker.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Right, there is what, uh, what he does because lucas I mean luca gave you a triple double 29, 10 and 10 you expect him to do that pretty much every night and you got guys like derrick jones and pj was.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Washington had really been big pickups, but Derek Lively, the young draft pick, he came up with 12 points off the bench.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And then you had Kyrie with 22,.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You know, and that's something that it's got to be a good series man.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like you said, indiana will be lucky to win one, so Boston will likely just sit there for about a week.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Waiting to play Goddamn Celtics man, danny Aiden's still their GM, or did he?
- 12:29Speaker 1: uh, no, it's Brad Stevens.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That's right that's right.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Oh, and we also had golf.
- 12:36Speaker 1: It was Valhalla, it was Kentucky, kentucky what are you getting?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Scotty Scheffler was arrested.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That's right, you go to jail.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I mean, he tried to go around the median and they put him in handcuffs.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Who the hell knows he did something that made a cop mad.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That was highlighting the end of the first round going into the second.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and he was able to put up a good second round and then third round.
- 13:09Speaker 1: That's where it got him 73.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But he came back and shot a 7-under in the last round, ended up finishing 14th.
- 13:15Speaker 1: But it wasn't to be.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It was Xander Schaefeli's week Started out Thursday with a 9-under and I was like there's no way he'll finish.
- 13:25Speaker 1: This is what he does.
- 13:26Speaker 1: He sets major scoring records but and he fizzles Right but he led the tournament every round.
- 13:35Speaker 1: He held off a lot of competitors.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Bryson DeChambeau finished second.
- 13:41Speaker 1: He was hitting the ball.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You had Victor Hovland just crushing it.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Xander answered the bell every time.
- 13:54Speaker 1: He had a little bogey on 10, but came right back with a birdie.
- 13:59Speaker 1: He was not to be denied.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And congratulations to the gold medalist who now is a major championship winner, well overdue.
- 14:11Speaker 1: He's been on that list of guys that to watch for had won a major, almost like when Phil was back on it back in the day.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if it broke through for Mora now that he's won.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He's been in contention a lot.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It was really an entertaining game back nine.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It came down to the final putt and you made it.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And that's always good.
- 14:38Speaker 1: When you see a major on Sunday, it gives you that drama, that intrigue that leads up to one putt.
- 14:46Speaker 1: So that's halfway done with the majors on this season, as we have the US US Open now to look forward to.
- 14:54Speaker 1: It happens on Father's Day.
- 14:56Speaker 1: That's always a good one.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But Valhalla was a 21 under was the score, and Xander Schauffele is your PGA champion.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And there's your golf talk Alright, alright.
- 15:14Speaker 1: And there's your golf time alright, yeah, we had to go and that's it.
- 15:22Speaker 1: We got to get on out of here.
- 15:23Speaker 1: All right, tier, oh man, I forgot about that damn golf man.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, sneak up on me.
- 15:31Speaker 1: You had to sneak up on you.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I mean yesterday, man, you had two game sevens.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You had the PGA Championship on.
- 15:38Speaker 1: This was one of those park your ass on the couch days.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Had to do some end of the year banquet stuff for the kiddies.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So I was checking my phone, to say the least, especially on that final putt.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I was definitely cheering.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 1: How'd that go?
- 16:00Speaker 2: over at the gymnastics banquet.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Well, you know you just clap.
- 16:05Speaker 1: You have to do the like, you know make it seem like you're clapping for one of the players.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Great, great job.
- 16:11Speaker 1: What if you missed it?
- 16:13Speaker 1: Oh, I wanted the other kid to win.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that would have been awkward.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want that.
- 16:22Speaker 1: You're a kid at Complex or something, Right?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Oh, I think we're going to talk to Jeff Cohane later in the week, One o'clock.
- 16:31Speaker 1: The voice of the Seminoles.
- 16:34Speaker 2: All right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Let's see what he thinks about calling games for the Noles.
- 16:39Speaker 2: How's it been?
- 16:40Speaker 2: He said I want to get his record prediction.
- 16:43Speaker 1: What's that?
- 16:44Speaker 2: He said I want to get his record prediction.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Oh, undefeated man, he's the voice of the Noles.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I didn't say.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I wanted to get it on record.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I just wanted to see what he thinks yeah, we will, we'll ask him.
- 16:55Speaker 2: He's got to say undefeated.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yeah we're going to.
- 17:02Speaker 1: We'll do that a bunch of times.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Go through all the schedules.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Miami's going to be a hot pick this preseason.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I know they are.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Anybody would with that schedule, man that schedule with the type of transfers they have brought in now.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I don't know A lot.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if Mario can't get it done, I see, I mean you have to win Double digits, have to.
- 17:33Speaker 2: You gotta win the ACC Right.
- 17:34Speaker 2: You just spent Two million dollars On a quarterback For a year.
- 17:37Speaker 2: You didn't do that To just Make a bowl game or, you know, win nine games.
- 17:43Speaker 2: You gotta win the.
- 17:43Speaker 1: ACC.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Well, we got a bunch of Predicting to do.
- 17:47Speaker 1: We'll go over the schedules, we'll pick them for a lot of the teams, but we'll watch these playoff games and we'll see how this college baseball thing plays out.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
