Latest / Mental Per4mance Daily with Adam Rutz / One Pitch At A Time
Transcript
- Adam Rutz: You gotta live life one pitch at a time. In baseball, we talk about this constantly. The great Ken Ravizza one of the godfathers of mental performance, taught athletes to compete one pitch at a time. And even though my background is baseball, that principle has almost nothing to do with baseball. It's about being where your feet are. For a baseball player, yes, it's one pitch at a time. For a hockey player, one shift at a time. For a basketball player, one possession at a time, a football player, one snap at a time, a salesperson, one call at a time, and everybody listening to this, it's one moment at a time. Because the past is irrelevant right now. Learn from it. Take the lesson, then move on. And the future is irrelevant right now, too, because it hasn't happened yet. You can prepare for the future, you can have goals for the future. But you cannot execute in the future. The only place you can execute is right now. Think about how much energy we waste replaying something that already happened or worrying about something that might happen. Meanwhile, the opportunity directly in front of us gets ignored. So today, simplify everything. What's your next pitch? What's your next call? What's your next conversation? What's the one thing directly in front of you that deserves your complete attention? Be where your feet are. Win this moment. Then do it again. One pitch at a time, one moment at a time, one day at a time. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's mental performance daily.
