- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Amy Torber. I'm Kate Torber.
- 0:11Speaker 1: And I'm Sophie Torber. And coming up on today's show,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Molly May and Tommy Fury spark debate after their child-free getaway.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And Virgin Australia gives Sydney Airport a social media masterclass
- 0:24Speaker 1: following the Sofa Dofa debacle.
- 0:27Speaker 2: But first, Laura Henshaw has been praised.
- 0:29Speaker 1: For keeping it real after opening up about a fight
- 0:32Speaker 1: she had with her husband, Dalton. Now, Kate, what caused
- 0:35Speaker 1: the argument? Well, Laura and Dalton are new parents. They
- 0:38Speaker 1: have an eight-month-old, so I feel like I can almost
- 0:40Speaker 1: just put a full stop to the end of that.
- 0:42Speaker 2: People who have young children.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Will know that year one of parenting is meant to
- 0:46Speaker 1: be the most difficult on your relationship. Everyone says that
- 0:49Speaker 1: you're meant to really hate your husband. I remember before
- 0:51Speaker 1: having Harry, this TikTok popped up of this influencer and
- 0:55Speaker 1: she was at an event and.
- 0:56Speaker 2: People were like, how's it change your life? And she's like,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry to.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Tell you girls, but you are going to hate your
- 1:01Speaker 1: husband for quite a period of time, but you will
- 1:03Speaker 1: like him again. Yeah. There's quite a bit of resentment,
- 1:06Speaker 1: particularly if you're the one that stays home and your
- 1:08Speaker 1: partner goes into work. Well, I think it's especially difficult
- 1:11Speaker 1: for Laura and Dalton because they both run their own
- 1:13Speaker 1: businesses and you can really tell it's been a bit
- 1:15Speaker 1: of a juggling act this past eight months. I remember
- 1:18Speaker 1: listening to Laura talk about how her and Dalton had
- 1:20Speaker 1: sat down pre-baby and spoke about how they were going
- 1:23Speaker 1: to make sure everything was 50-50 and they'd come up
- 1:26Speaker 1: with this plan And I remember just thinking, oh, that's
- 1:29Speaker 1: never going to happen. Like, unfortunately, when you're the mother,
- 1:32Speaker 1: particularly if you're breastfeeding, a lot of it falls on
- 1:34Speaker 1: you naturally.
- 1:35Speaker 3: And getting back on track, what was the catalyst for
- 1:37Speaker 3: this disagreement?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Well, Dalton fell asleep on the couch on Saturday night
- 1:41Speaker 1: and Laura wasn't happy because She said in order to
- 1:45Speaker 1: get a good sleep, she has to go to bed
- 1:47Speaker 1: at the same time as Dalton. Otherwise, she ends up
- 1:49Speaker 1: waiting up for him to come to bed. I can
- 1:51Speaker 1: definitely see both sides of that because I'm someone who
- 1:54Speaker 1: loves falling asleep on the couch. And 99% of the time,
- 1:57Speaker 1: that is me in our relationship. And the 1% Reese
- 2:00Speaker 1: does it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I hate it. I cannot fall asleep at all. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: am so guilty of this.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I love nothing more than falling asleep on the couch
- 2:07Speaker 1: whilst we're watching a show together. And I am generally
- 2:10Speaker 1: irate when I'm woken up. Like I am an awful
- 2:13Speaker 1: person to be around. I have to admit, you guys
- 2:15Speaker 1: have told me that I was very difficult to rouse
- 2:18Speaker 1: off the couch when we used.
- 2:19Speaker 2: To live together. Oh, my God, you'd freak out.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Like if anyone crept to bed or just went to bed,
- 2:23Speaker 1: you'd be like, how dare you not wake me up
- 2:26Speaker 1: and how dare you go to bed without me?
- 2:28Speaker 2: And you're just like, what?
- 2:29Speaker 3: You're like, I've now been left to turn all the
- 2:31Speaker 3: lights off in the house.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's like, would you prefer us to fucking wake you
- 2:35Speaker 1: up and make a big song and dance?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Like we're allowed to go to bed.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Now– Despite the fact that Laura wasn't the one that
- 2:41Speaker 1: was half asleep on the couch, it was her that
- 2:43Speaker 1: was irate. So she went out into the living room
- 2:46Speaker 1: and told Dalton to wake up. And she claimed that
- 2:48Speaker 1: she was trying to be caring, but in the next
- 2:50Speaker 1: breath said that she was pissed off. So she turned
- 2:52Speaker 1: the lights on and woke him up. Now, he told
- 2:54Speaker 1: her that he was coming to bed but then fell
- 2:56Speaker 1: asleep back on the couch.
- 2:58Speaker 2: God, I know that old trick too well.
- 3:00Speaker 1: She said at this stage she was so annoyed that
- 3:02Speaker 1: she went back into the room and turned the light on,
- 3:04Speaker 1: this time full blast, and then Dalton told her that
- 3:07Speaker 1: she was rude.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Wow.
- 3:09Speaker 2: That is pretty bad.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I mean, I would be fuming. I'm all cozy on
- 3:13Speaker 1: the couch. Someone puts a fucking spotlight on me. To
- 3:15Speaker 1: be fair, she admitted that she wasn't being the best
- 3:17Speaker 1: version of herself. Now, after that, apparently Dalton came into
- 3:21Speaker 1: the bedroom and declared that he was sleeping on the
- 3:23Speaker 1: couch for good.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And she said, fine.
- 3:25Speaker 1: However, he came back in 20 minutes later and slept
- 3:27Speaker 1: in the bed and ended up waking Laura up. The
- 3:29Speaker 1: funniest thing is that they were trying to have this
- 3:31Speaker 1: full blown argument whilst their son was sleeping in the
- 3:33Speaker 1: other room. So they had to sort of be whispering
- 3:35Speaker 1: whilst arguing. Let's throw to more of what Laura said.
- 3:39Speaker 4: So I'm, like, lying sitting up in our bed, just
- 3:42Speaker 4: so angry. And Alice is asleep, so, like, you can't
- 3:45Speaker 4: be loud with your argument. So it's kind of like
- 3:48Speaker 4: you just do this, like, really angry, like, soft voice. And, like,
- 3:52Speaker 4: you can't be slamming the door or anything. So Dotson was, like,
- 3:55Speaker 4: opening the door as he, like, remembered something else he
- 3:58Speaker 4: wanted to say to me. Like, coming in like a
- 4:01Speaker 4: little venomous snake. And he'd be like.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Um that was so mean and then he'd like close
- 4:08Speaker 4: the door but like not slap but like i could
- 4:10Speaker 4: tell his hand was still on it because he wanted
- 4:12Speaker 4: to say more and then open it again and be
- 4:16Speaker 4: like you don't care about me and then you do
- 4:18Speaker 4: it again but like you don't care about me anyway
- 4:21Speaker 4: he proceeded to do it like literally 15 times the
- 4:23Speaker 4: joys the joys.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I'm sure this is another story that Dalton is just
- 4:34Speaker 1: wrapped that she's sharing online. My favourite bit was when
- 4:37Speaker 1: she called him a venomous snake. I just got this
- 4:40Speaker 1: whole image in my head of it. The ironic thing
- 4:42Speaker 1: is Laura shared this story as a part of a
- 4:44Speaker 1: reel and it was captioned, two new parents trying to
- 4:46Speaker 1: reset their relationship in the morning.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And she claimed that, you know, they were all good now.
- 4:51Speaker 1: They decided to put on some music, make some pancakes
- 4:54Speaker 1: and just get on with their Sunday in a more
- 4:56Speaker 1: positive mood.
- 4:57Speaker 2: However, when Laura.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Was retelling the story to her followers... You could tell
- 5:02Speaker 1: Dalton was still not over it because he kept chiming
- 5:04Speaker 1: in being like, you yelled and you were mean. Wasn't
- 5:07Speaker 1: he saying that the best way to get over the
- 5:09Speaker 1: argument was to get intimate.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Or something as well, which I think stirred her up more.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Get the stopwatch on. He reiterated that sentiment in the comments.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He wrote, intimacy is always the answer with a flame
- 5:19Speaker 1: emoji to which Laura responded, not for me, obviously.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I actually love the realness of this.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Like I think that there are a lot of couples who,
- 5:27Speaker 1: who are in the early stages of parenthood that could
- 5:29Speaker 1: relate to this. And I think the general rule is
- 5:32Speaker 1: that whatever was said overnight should be forgiven in the morning.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And when you are sleep deprived, it doesn't count. I
- 5:38Speaker 2: don't like old times with me and Tommy and like
- 5:40Speaker 2: our holiday vlogs that we used to do.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Molly May and Tommy Fury have sparked debate after jetting
- 5:46Speaker 1: off on a child-free getaway to Dubai. Some corners of
- 5:49Speaker 1: the internet lost their minds, criticising the couple for leaving
- 5:52Speaker 1: their 10-week-old son Midas at home, while others praised them
- 5:56Speaker 1: for prioritising quality time as a couple. Now, Sophie, it
- 5:59Speaker 1: was actually a fan who broke the news of this trip. Yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 1: so Molly and Tommy were spotted waiting at the gate
- 6:05Speaker 1: of their Emirates flight by a fan, and the follower
- 6:08Speaker 1: stopped them for a photo and ended up posting it
- 6:11Speaker 1: to TikTok.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And underneath the photo, one user asked.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Whether their kids Bambi and Midas were with them.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And the fan replied, no, just them two. So I'm
- 6:20Speaker 1: guessing they're off on a little holiday themselves.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Now, not long.
- 6:24Speaker 1: After that TikTok, the couple started to share about their
- 6:27Speaker 1: holiday themselves. So Molly posted a photo of the view
- 6:31Speaker 1: outside their hotel room, as well as the macaroons left
- 6:34Speaker 1: by the hotel staff. And it didn't take long for
- 6:38Speaker 1: the media to piece together where the couple was staying.
- 6:41Speaker 1: So tabloids started reporting that Tommy and Molly were spending
- 6:44Speaker 1: over £ 5, 000 a night to stay in an Ocean Deluxe
- 6:48Speaker 1: room at a very exy hotel in Dubai. This trip
- 6:52Speaker 1: was somewhat delayed because originally they were supposed to be
- 6:55Speaker 1: having a romantic getaway in Greece last month, but ended
- 6:58Speaker 1: up taking their two kids with them. So the family
- 7:01Speaker 1: stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel. And following that trip,
- 7:04Speaker 1: Molly admitted on a YouTube channel that Tommy had originally
- 7:07Speaker 1: booked the holiday as a romantic getaway for just the
- 7:09Speaker 1: two of them. She said, I don't think he thought
- 7:12Speaker 1: about the fact we were literally going to have a
- 7:14Speaker 1: seven week old. It seems like it's Tommy that's pushing
- 7:17Speaker 1: for these child free getaways. And I think that's because
- 7:19Speaker 1: he wasn't around when Bambi was born. He was off
- 7:22Speaker 1: at one of his training camps. A bit hypocritical off
- 7:25Speaker 1: the back of what we were talking about on our
- 7:27Speaker 1: other podcast, The Mums Group, about how he was essentially
- 7:30Speaker 1: shaming Kim Kardashian for having a team of nannies when
- 7:34Speaker 1: clearly their young children were with a nanny or with family.
- 7:37Speaker 2: At the time.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Yeah. And as you can imagine, this story started to
- 7:41Speaker 1: generate a lot of headlines in the press. The Sun
- 7:44Speaker 1: led with Molly Mae and Tommy Fury fly off for
- 7:47Speaker 1: child-free Dubai holiday 10 weeks after giving birth after Greece
- 7:51Speaker 1: trip guilt. I mean, in that headline, they're really emphasizing Midas'
- 7:55Speaker 1: age there. Another read, I mean, every single article centered
- 8:05Speaker 1: around the fact that their three-year-old Bambi and newborn Midas
- 8:08Speaker 1: weren't there. And they've really honed in on the luxury
- 8:12Speaker 1: element of this trip. I mean, the press knew what
- 8:14Speaker 1: they were doing. They wanted to aggravate parents in the
- 8:17Speaker 1: trenches who could only dream of escaping for a few
- 8:21Speaker 1: nights like this and getting out of night feeds and nappies. Look,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm not even in the newborn trenches. I'm in the
- 8:26Speaker 1: toddler trenches. And when I saw these headlines, I couldn't
- 8:29Speaker 1: help but be a little bit jealous. I think there
- 8:31Speaker 1: are a lot of parents feeling jealousy over it. Entertainment
- 8:35Speaker 1: Daily UK ran with the headline, do parents need child-free holidays?
- 8:39Speaker 3: And the comment section was actually fairly mixed.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So some parents felt it was too soon. One wrote, yes,
- 8:45Speaker 1: a break is good for your relationship. However, a 10
- 8:47Speaker 1: week old baby is just a no, but that's just
- 8:50Speaker 1: my opinion. Another said 10 weeks, no way at 10 weeks,
- 8:54Speaker 1: every fiber of my physical being would scream if separated
- 8:57Speaker 1: from my baby for more than an hour. I carried
- 9:00Speaker 1: them everywhere at that age. Couldn't imagine going on holiday
- 9:03Speaker 1: without them. I can barely imagine it now a decade on.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Others jumped to the couple's defense. One user wrote, why
- 9:10Speaker 1: not if they've got a good support network around them
- 9:12Speaker 1: who can be fully trusted with their little people? Whilst
- 9:15Speaker 1: another said, it's healthy. What is toxic is the mentality
- 9:18Speaker 1: that mothers can't have a break. A lot of people
- 9:22Speaker 1: were clearly projecting their own feelings onto Molly and Tommy.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And it's hard not to when you're a parent because
- 9:28Speaker 1: you only know your experience. And Personally, I was like,
- 9:31Speaker 1: oh God, I could not imagine leaving my 10-week-old baby either.
- 9:35Speaker 1: But if Molly and Tommy feel comfortable to do that,
- 9:38Speaker 1: then isn't that their prerogative?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Look, I tend to agree, Kate.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I think it's something that a lot of parents would
- 9:43Speaker 1: feel uncomfortable doing when their child is so young. But
- 9:47Speaker 1: the media didn't have all the facts. So after they
- 9:49Speaker 1: ran wild with this story, Molly uploaded a vlog called
- 9:53Speaker 1: Life Currently and Our Quick Trip to Dubai. So you
- 9:55Speaker 1: can tell in the title already that Molly wanted to
- 9:58Speaker 1: make it really clear that they weren't away from their
- 10:00Speaker 1: kids for very long. So while this trip was being
- 10:03Speaker 1: dubbed a romantic getaway, the reality is it was a
- 10:06Speaker 1: work trip for under 48 hours. So in the video,
- 10:09Speaker 1: Molly explained that she was there for her work, but
- 10:12Speaker 1: she didn't elaborate more. She said she was initially going
- 10:16Speaker 1: to come out by herself, but then asked Tommy to
- 10:18Speaker 1: join her She added that they even considered bringing the
- 10:21Speaker 1: kids along with them and turning it into another family holiday.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But she was glad that they didn't.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Because August is the hottest month of the year in Dubai.
- 10:29Speaker 2: So whilst they.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Were there, it was 44 degrees outside.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Do you get the vibe that Molly is really trying
- 10:35Speaker 1: to keep Tommy happy during this postpartum period? She's spoken
- 10:39Speaker 1: a lot about how she lost herself during her first
- 10:41Speaker 1: time postpartum and how she's been trying to do things differently.
- 10:45Speaker 1: She's been doing a lot of self-care and In her
- 10:47Speaker 1: last vlog, she spoke about how she went and got
- 10:49Speaker 1: a bunch of new bras and matching sets and she
- 10:52Speaker 1: was going to surprise Tommy with them. And then they've
- 10:55Speaker 1: had these holidays, which historically in their relationship, the holidays
- 10:58Speaker 1: have been used as a bit of a band-aid when
- 11:00Speaker 1: things have been rough. So I wonder if this is
- 11:03Speaker 1: her way of keeping Tommy happy? Well, Molly recently spoke
- 11:07Speaker 1: about how difficult the jump from one to two has been.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And how she's had to go off and look after
- 11:13Speaker 1: Midas while Tommy's been looking after Bambi. And the fact
- 11:16Speaker 1: that they really haven't seen much of each other. I
- 11:18Speaker 1: suppose you would be pretty mindful of it considering they
- 11:21Speaker 1: broke up this time two years ago. It would be
- 11:23Speaker 1: playing on your mind. And we saw their reunion somewhat
- 11:27Speaker 1: play out on Molly's doco. And Molly was very open
- 11:30Speaker 1: with the fact that she didn't feel like their relationship
- 11:33Speaker 1: was perfect or that they had fixed.
- 11:34Speaker 2: All of the problems.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you could really tell in the doco that there
- 11:37Speaker 1: are still some teething issues there, particularly around Tommy's drinking.
- 11:41Speaker 2: And that things aren't.
- 11:42Speaker 1: As picture perfect as she portrays them to be on
- 11:44Speaker 1: Instagram and also on her YouTube. Even in the Dubai vlog,
- 11:49Speaker 1: Molly was talking about how women kept coming up to
- 11:52Speaker 1: Tommy and telling him how handsome he is. I mean,
- 11:54Speaker 1: that would really play on your mind, particularly because Tommy
- 11:57Speaker 1: does a lot of traveling on his own. Yeah. Also
- 11:59Speaker 1: at the end of the vlog, they were talking about
- 12:01Speaker 1: their peak and trough of the trip, which is what
- 12:03Speaker 1: they normally do after every holiday. And she even dropped
- 12:07Speaker 1: that they had an argument day one. apparently Tommy was
- 12:10Speaker 1: rushing her to get ready and they had a little
- 12:12Speaker 1: bit of a dispute because he was hangry.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And he was like, oh, are you going to include
- 12:15Speaker 2: that in?
- 12:16Speaker 1: And then there was this on-running joke that there was
- 12:19Speaker 1: a rumor going around that someone says that Tommy and
- 12:22Speaker 1: Molly argue a lot when they're in public. Yeah, it
- 12:25Speaker 1: was quite funny because they were trying to water down
- 12:27Speaker 1: that rumor. But then later in the vlog, they started
- 12:29Speaker 1: opening up about all these instances when the paparazzi had
- 12:32Speaker 1: caught them out arguing. In saying all of that, it
- 12:35Speaker 1: seems like they've got great chemistry in this vlog. It
- 12:37Speaker 1: felt like old times watching them on a couple's getaway.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was actually getting sort of pangs in my heart
- 12:44Speaker 1: thinking about the previous trips I've been on before I've
- 12:47Speaker 1: had children and how fun they were and how you
- 12:49Speaker 1: just felt so carefree. And it seemed like Tommy and
- 12:52Speaker 1: Molly felt like that. But then there was this undertone
- 12:55Speaker 1: that they kept pushing that they really miss their children.
- 12:58Speaker 1: But I think that was just to combat any negative
- 13:01Speaker 1: media headlines that were about to come out. I mean,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I think that they genuinely did miss them. Oh, I know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but I think they played it up a bit.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Because you have to, you have to play the game.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I mean, I think this would be a fantasy of
- 13:12Speaker 1: a lot of new parents to escape the sleep deprivation
- 13:15Speaker 1: and have a couple of nights to yourself on a
- 13:17Speaker 1: luxury trip with you and your partner. But at the
- 13:19Speaker 1: same time, you'd be wracked with absolute guilt over it.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I mean, Molly spoke about feeling really homesick and glad
- 13:25Speaker 1: that they were only there.
- 13:26Speaker 2: For basically a day.
- 13:28Speaker 1: She said that when they arrived in Dubai, they literally
- 13:31Speaker 1: didn't know what to do with themselves. She said they
- 13:32Speaker 1: sat there twiddling their thumbs by the pool and that
- 13:35Speaker 1: traveling with kids is so much more fun. It was
- 13:38Speaker 1: also funny when they did a stint by the adults
- 13:40Speaker 1: only pool and they were like, oh, we've got to
- 13:42Speaker 1: take ourself over to the family pool.
- 13:44Speaker 2: This is just so boring and too quiet for us.
- 13:47Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Sometimes you yearn for this child free time, but then
- 13:50Speaker 1: you realize how boring it can be. And that you
- 13:53Speaker 1: really don't have anything to do.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like a lovely predicament when you're
- 13:57Speaker 2: in the thick of it.
- 13:58Speaker 1: It was interesting to see how they spent their trip
- 14:00Speaker 1: because I was waiting to see some behind the scenes
- 14:03Speaker 1: vision of the work commitment that Molly was there for.
- 14:06Speaker 1: We didn't actually see any of that. I think that
- 14:09Speaker 1: maybe it would have bode well for her if she
- 14:11Speaker 1: included it in there. But again, it might be something
- 14:13Speaker 1: that's top secret and she can't speak about because What
- 14:16Speaker 1: they ended up doing was a lot of shopping, a
- 14:18Speaker 1: lot of time by the pool. I mean, Molly treated
- 14:20Speaker 1: herself to a blow wave. She also bought a diamond necklace.
- 14:23Speaker 1: It looked like a great trip. I couldn't quite get
- 14:25Speaker 1: my head around her decision to get a blow wave
- 14:27Speaker 1: because it seemed like two hours later, it was up
- 14:30Speaker 1: in a ponytail and she was by the pool.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I was like, what a waste of money. Yeah, that
- 14:35Speaker 3: was very odd.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I mean, I thought maybe it was for the work commitment,
- 14:39Speaker 1: but it didn't appear to be. I mean, I think
- 14:41Speaker 1: we've also got to remember about Molly Mae is that
- 14:43Speaker 1: she has been really honest about her struggles the first
- 14:47Speaker 1: time around with Bambi and how she suffered postnatal depression.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And I think it is really clear that this time
- 14:52Speaker 1: around she's taking the steps to help protect her mental health.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I just feel like there's so much judgment over anything
- 14:59Speaker 1: Molly Mae does when it comes to parenting. And yes,
- 15:01Speaker 1: while you personally may not feel comfortable leaving your 10
- 15:05Speaker 1: week old child, you've got to remember that she was
- 15:07Speaker 1: actually there for a work commitment. And She is running
- 15:11Speaker 1: a multi-million dollar business. She has a huge empire that
- 15:15Speaker 1: she's got to keep running whilst her children are young.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And I think that the judgment wouldn't be there if
- 15:20Speaker 1: this was a man who chose to leave for a
- 15:23Speaker 1: handful of hours to go and do something for work.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I get all of.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That and I agree, but why not leave Tommy at
- 15:29Speaker 1: home to look after the children? That's what I don't
- 15:32Speaker 1: quite understand because if it was a work trip, then
- 15:35Speaker 1: leave the other parent at home. That's what happened when
- 15:37Speaker 1: Tommy was in training camp. You know, Molly was stuck
- 15:41Speaker 1: with the kids by herself. Why not flip the situation
- 15:44Speaker 1: and give Tommy a taste of his own medicine? I mean,
- 15:46Speaker 1: even that in itself speaks volumes because I really think
- 15:49Speaker 1: that this trip was about prioritizing couple time. And I
- 15:53Speaker 1: think the whole thing is people don't have an issue
- 15:55Speaker 1: necessarily with parents going away without their children.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I think it is more around minuses.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Age is so young and Babies are just so reliant
- 16:04Speaker 1: on their parents, but in particular their mum and the
- 16:06Speaker 1: feeding routine and sleeping routine, even just regulating themselves with
- 16:10Speaker 1: skin to skin.
- 16:10Speaker 2: So I think that that is where people have the
- 16:12Speaker 2: biggest issue.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I saw Indy Clinton and Big Ed are also on
- 16:16Speaker 1: a couple free holiday at the moment in Bali. And
- 16:18Speaker 1: of course it's ruffled feathers in the comment section, but
- 16:21Speaker 1: it seems like they're also doing.
- 16:23Speaker 2: It to prioritise their relationship.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So obviously there are major benefits for couples going on
- 16:28Speaker 1: kid-free holidays and And, you know, children want their parents
- 16:32Speaker 1: to be happy and to have a healthy relationship. I
- 16:35Speaker 1: do think this made headlines because of the fact that
- 16:37Speaker 1: Midas was only 10 weeks old.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I thought they'd just made one for the novelty.
- 16:41Speaker 1: It's not the day to order it.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I'm so embarrassed.
- 16:46Speaker 1: This week, Virgin Australia gave Sydney Airport a social media masterclass.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Off the back of the airport's feud with Sofa Dofa
- 16:54Speaker 1: over gluten-free options, The airline ensured the popular influencer was
- 16:58Speaker 1: well fed during her latest travels. Kate, can you tell
- 17:01Speaker 1: us more? Well, this time around, Sophia was traveling virgin,
- 17:04Speaker 1: not Jetstar. So she didn't have to slum it in
- 17:06Speaker 1: the Sydney airport's food court like the rest of us.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Instead, she was.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Given the royal treatment in the virgin lounge, which Sophia,
- 17:13Speaker 1: of course, documented on her TikTok. So upon arriving, she
- 17:17Speaker 1: spotted a sign on tables and the buffet that said,
- 17:20Speaker 1: order the sofa dofa gluten-free toasty. She was also personally
- 17:24Speaker 1: served the name steak toastie via a cloche presented by
- 17:28Speaker 1: a Virgin staff member.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think you're partial to a good pre-toasting with Virgin
- 17:35Speaker 1: Australia allowance.
- 17:36Speaker 4: So, how are you?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Oh my god, thank you so much. She looked so embarrassed.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You could tell she was quite grateful, but also completely mortified.
- 17:49Speaker 2: You literally wouldn't know what to do.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And you'd feel like everyone was staring at you, particularly
- 17:54Speaker 1: because of all of the marketing collateral around the lounge too. Well,
- 17:58Speaker 1: it was quite iconic because she was wearing the perfect
- 18:01Speaker 1: t-shirt for the moment.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Her shirt said cult fashion.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Favor.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I wonder if she was regretting wearing that when she
- 18:06Speaker 2: entered the lounge. Like you'd be thinking, God, I look.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Like a dick.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I reckon you would be worried that everyone would be
- 18:10Speaker 1: thinking that you're like, look at me, look at me
- 18:13Speaker 1: and my toasty and my special branded this and that.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I mean, they really did put the VIP treatment on
- 18:18Speaker 1: for her because they gave her three toasties. There were
- 18:21Speaker 1: gluten-free sausages, a massive serve of eggs and yogurt and fruit.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I mean, they kept her well-fed in there. It was
- 18:27Speaker 1: quite ironic because Sophia's friend Bailey was with her and.
- 18:30Speaker 2: He was like, are you actually hungry? And she's like, No.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Maybe she ate breakfast that time around just in case. Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 1: she stocked up. Let's give credit where credit is due.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This was a genius marketing move by Virgin. At the
- 18:43Speaker 1: time of recording, the video Sophia posted to her TikTok
- 18:47Speaker 1: has over.
- 18:48Speaker 2: A million views.
- 18:49Speaker 1: The airline didn't even post about it. They didn't need
- 18:52Speaker 1: to because this completely spread like wildfire. They did, however,
- 18:56Speaker 1: comment underneath Sophia's video writing, we ride for our gluten-free queen,
- 19:00Speaker 1: which got 39,000 likes. The airline's velocity frequent flyer also
- 19:05Speaker 1: added the comment, the gluten-free redemption arc that we all needed.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I wonder if the airport scolded Virgin for doing it
- 19:13Speaker 1: because it made them look stupid. I think they should
- 19:15Speaker 1: be taking notes rather than scolding them because Virgin really
- 19:18Speaker 1: showed how you can use social media in a positive
- 19:22Speaker 1: way to your advantage rather than trying to drum up
- 19:25Speaker 1: engagement by fighting back. You can actually get eyeballs on
- 19:29Speaker 1: your page by responding in a positive way, which is exactly.
- 19:32Speaker 2: What they did.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I reckon there would have been a couple of oldies
- 19:35Speaker 1: and businessmen in the lounge scratching their heads at who
- 19:38Speaker 1: Sofa Dofa is and why she has her own gluten-free toasty.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Well, it was pretty funny in Sophia's vlog.
- 19:43Speaker 1: They're like, oh my God, there's a man going up
- 19:44Speaker 1: to the sign.
- 19:44Speaker 2: This is so awkward. While overall, this was a really
- 19:48Speaker 2: positive PR move from V.
- 19:51Speaker 1: There was a comment that pointed out that Virgin isn't
- 19:54Speaker 1: as supportive to the gluten-free community as they make out.
- 19:58Speaker 2: So I did some digging.
- 19:59Speaker 1: And while the Virgin lounge caters for celiacs, once on
- 20:02Speaker 1: board a Virgin aircraft, they are not guaranteed a gluten-free meal.
- 20:06Speaker 1: So passengers traveling- on domestic or short-haul international flights actually
- 20:12Speaker 1: don't have access to a dedicated gluten-free meal service. The
- 20:15Speaker 1: only flight where you can actually pre-order a gluten-free meal
- 20:18Speaker 1: is a long-haul international flight. However, the meal is not
- 20:22Speaker 1: always guaranteed. In saying that, they do offer gluten-free snacks
- 20:26Speaker 1: on their onboard menu, but availability varies by flight. Look,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I love that they jumped at the PR opportunity, but
- 20:32Speaker 1: maybe you've got to make sure that the rest of
- 20:34Speaker 1: your gluten-free options for the rest of your customers are
- 20:36Speaker 1: in line. I mean, I wonder if Sydney Airport's going
- 20:39Speaker 1: to come back and say, hold on a second.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Hold on.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Maybe it was Sam Brooks who's like, hold on. Let's
- 20:44Speaker 1: point out that the gluten-free selection on the plane is
- 20:46Speaker 1: actually shit. Look, the messaging from Virgin is a little
- 20:49Speaker 1: bit inconsistent, but most people who saw this video would
- 20:53Speaker 1: have taken it as a positive and kept scrolling.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I do feel frustrated for celiacs.
- 20:58Speaker 1: In the gluten-free community who might be like, hang on,
- 21:01Speaker 1: you actually don't do the best for us. Yeah, I mean...
- 21:04Speaker 1: The rest of the people who don't actually get access
- 21:06Speaker 1: to the lounge aren't getting to enjoy it, are they?
- 21:09Speaker 4: No.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Well, that is where we are going to leave things today.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Thank you so much for listening to another episode of Outspoken.
- 21:15Speaker 1: If you want to hear more from us, we drop
- 21:17Speaker 1: a subscriber-only episode every Thursday for Outspoken Plus subscribers. And
- 21:21Speaker 1: this week, we discussed how Martha Kalafatidis Was mum shamed
- 21:26Speaker 1: over that viral yelling video? This episode was recorded on
- 21:30Speaker 1: the traditional land of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains.
- 21:33Speaker 3: We pay respect to elders past and present.
