- 0:13Speaker 1: Help us grow the show by subscribing to the podcast. Yes,
- 0:19Speaker 1: all right, so let's get into it. College football weekend,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and it wouldn't be a collegetable weekend if we didn't
- 0:24Speaker 1: talk a little recruiting. That is right, as many of
- 0:27Speaker 1: the top players in the country have started selecting their teams. Now,
- 0:32Speaker 1: what's interesting is that Julian Lewis is the number two
- 0:36Speaker 1: prospect according to ESPN dot com when it comes to
- 0:40Speaker 1: the position of quarterback. He announced his commitment yesterday on
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Pack McAfee show. This is Cut fifteen.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Julian Juju Lewis will be playing football for whom next year.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Brother I will be continuing and continuing in an academic
- 1:01Speaker 3: career as.
- 1:03Speaker 1: The University of Colorado. Huge for Dion Sanders, Huge for Colorado.
- 1:10Speaker 1: This is the biggest prospect that Dion has been able
- 1:13Speaker 1: to get since he was able to flip Travis Hunter
- 1:18Speaker 1: back in twenty twelve, he was able to get to
- 1:21Speaker 1: a craction that twenty twelve, twenty twenty two, let's get
- 1:24Speaker 1: it right, twenty twenty two, he was able to flip
- 1:26Speaker 1: Hunter from Florida State to Jackson State. Hunter was the
- 1:29Speaker 1: number two overall prospect in that class. This is the
- 1:33Speaker 1: highest ranked Buffalo edition since Darrell Scott was the number
- 1:38Speaker 1: nine overall prospect in the two thousand and eight class.
- 1:42Speaker 1: If things weren't going good enough in Colorado, this is
- 1:48Speaker 1: the icing on the cake. The quarterback from Georgia marks
- 1:51Speaker 1: and momentous recruiting victory for Dion Sanders, and it makes
- 1:57Speaker 1: a huge, to me, huge win for Colorado fans. Now,
- 2:02Speaker 1: there are a few Colorado fans who jumped on the bandwagon,
- 2:06Speaker 1: guys who are Deon Sanders fans, and they were very
- 2:09Speaker 1: loud last season as the Buffalo continued to lose games.
- 2:13Speaker 1: This year, however, eight and two, sixteen in the College
- 2:16Speaker 1: Football rankings and the last polls that came out on Tuesday,
- 2:20Speaker 1: they're knocking on the door. This is a team that,
- 2:23Speaker 1: if things shake their right way, could be a playoff
- 2:26Speaker 1: team any year two under Dion. Now, of course, myself
- 2:29Speaker 1: and many others were considering Deon Sanders a lock to
- 2:33Speaker 1: go to the NFL. However, with this edition of Lewis,
- 2:37Speaker 1: this makes me think that one of two things are true.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Either Deon Sanders lied to this kid, or Deon Sanders
- 2:43Speaker 1: is not leaving Colorado for the foreseeable future. I tend
- 2:46Speaker 1: to lean to the latter. I think that Deon Sanders
- 2:49Speaker 1: is staying in Colorado for the long term, that he's
- 2:53Speaker 1: actually building something in bolder Colorado which is ginormal. Not
- 3:00Speaker 1: only for the Big twelve, we'll get to that here
- 3:02Speaker 1: in a second, but for Deon Sanders, because for the
- 3:05Speaker 1: longest time it was bark bark, bark, no bite, and
- 3:08Speaker 1: now you potentially have a guy who can back up
- 3:11Speaker 1: what he is selling. It's easy to win football games
- 3:14Speaker 1: when your quarterback is your kid, and he might be
- 3:17Speaker 1: the best quarterback in the country. It's easier to win
- 3:19Speaker 1: games that way. But if you can bring in a
- 3:21Speaker 1: high school kid who's a five star and convince him
- 3:24Speaker 1: not only to come to your program, but convince him
- 3:27Speaker 1: not to go to USC, that's big. Lincoln Riley usually
- 3:32Speaker 1: always gets the best prospects he couldn't keep Julian Lewis.
- 3:36Speaker 1: The other reason that I say this is big for Colorado.
- 3:39Speaker 1: It's big for the Big Twelve. The Big Twelve after
- 3:42Speaker 1: losing Texas and Oklahoma is then the water that's a
- 3:46Speaker 1: revenue machine those two schools. It brought intrigue to the conference.
- 3:53Speaker 1: They leave. Colorado steps in.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Now.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Granted it's not the money making machine that Texas, No,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you are, nobody is, but they are are there. Colorado
- 4:02Speaker 1: could be the national brand that makes people tune in
- 4:06Speaker 1: the Big Twelve games. Hey, I'm watching a Colorado game.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I happen to see a good Texas tech player Haim
- 4:11Speaker 1: watching Colorado game. I happen to see a really good
- 4:14Speaker 1: game between Arizona and them. This is big. Colorado has
- 4:18Speaker 1: their work cutout for him as well. They play a
- 4:20Speaker 1: tough game this weekend against Arizona State winner, probably knocking
- 4:26Speaker 1: on the door for a College FOOTBA playoff. Birst. We'll
- 4:28Speaker 1: see how Colorado does this weekend. Another big commitment. This
- 4:32Speaker 1: is let's get it. This is cut number sixteen. This
- 4:36Speaker 1: is breaking news Yesterday by Adam Schefner.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Bryce Underwood, ESPN's number one recruit in the class of
- 4:45Speaker 3: twenty twenty five, is flipping his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines.
- 4:51Speaker 3: He told school officials today a huge day for Michigan
- 4:55Speaker 3: head football coach Sharon Moore as they land the highest
- 5:00Speaker 3: recruiting school.
- 5:02Speaker 1: History giant Now Underwood six foot four two ten from Michigan.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He originally had committed to LSU and Brian Kelly. If
- 5:12Speaker 1: things could get worse for Kelly right as his LSU
- 5:16Speaker 1: Tigers continue to struggle, Underwood signs on. If he decides
- 5:21Speaker 1: the side with the Wolverines on December fourth, he'll be
- 5:23Speaker 1: the first number one recruit to join Michigan since the
- 5:27Speaker 1: program in defensive tackle o Vershawn Gray back in twenty sixteen.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Underwood would also join defensive back to Real Peppers and
- 5:35Speaker 1: Dax Hill as the only five star prospects to land
- 5:38Speaker 1: in ann Arbor since two thousand and six. So more,
- 5:42Speaker 1: after taking over the program from Jim Harbaugh, it was like, Okay,
- 5:48Speaker 1: how do we fill these shoes? How do we move
- 5:50Speaker 1: forward from here? He has done a pretty good job
- 5:53Speaker 1: of landing a big recruit in his first recruiting class.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But this goes back to what Steve star kingstre was
- 5:57Speaker 1: talking about earlier this week when it comes to recruiting
- 6:01Speaker 1: positively recruiting. This is Sark six. Starks six talking about
- 6:05Speaker 1: how you have to build relationships with different players to
- 6:10Speaker 1: make sure that they don't don't go in the transfer port,
- 6:12Speaker 1: let's Stark six. Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I think it's just that, you know, we're a big
- 6:16Speaker 2: relationship based organization and that's top down. You know, my
- 6:20Speaker 2: relationships with our coaches, our staff, our recruiting department, our
- 6:25Speaker 2: our training staff. Mean, everybody is really well connected in
- 6:29Speaker 2: our building and that permeates all the way through our players,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and that starts in recruiting and so you know, I
- 6:36Speaker 2: know there's a lot of different ways to recruit in
- 6:38Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of ways where it's you know,
- 6:40Speaker 2: you just try to, you know, have twenty four to
- 6:44Speaker 2: forty eight hours at the greatest time of somebody's life
- 6:46Speaker 2: and hope they commit to you. We're kind of about
- 6:49Speaker 2: the long haul and as much as some things get
- 6:52Speaker 2: made and how we recruit and some of the flash
- 6:54Speaker 2: and things that we do with cars or whatnot, but
- 6:57Speaker 2: the reality of it is the substance and the foundation
- 7:00Speaker 2: to what we do is about the relationships that we
- 7:02Speaker 2: forge and it's what the It's with the prospective student athlete,
- 7:05Speaker 2: it's with their parents, it's with their coaches, and I
- 7:09Speaker 2: think over time, you know that that is what people
- 7:12Speaker 2: are looking for, and not everyone is a perfect fit
- 7:16Speaker 2: for us, and guys choose to go to other schools,
- 7:18Speaker 2: and I respect that and that's fine. But as long
- 7:20Speaker 2: as we have the opportunity to really kind of put
- 7:23Speaker 2: our best foot forward and to start some of that
- 7:25Speaker 2: relationship building, I always feel like we got a pretty
- 7:28Speaker 2: good chance to land the right types of kids around here.
- 7:31Speaker 1: You know, we we.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Definitely want to recruit really talented players, but we never
- 7:35Speaker 2: we never want to sacrifice character for talent. And the
- 7:38Speaker 2: only way you can find out about the character if
- 7:41Speaker 2: somebody is over time. And so I think that that's
- 7:44Speaker 2: something that we've we've really tried to work on doing.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And that, to me is the bottom line. The great
- 7:50Speaker 1: coaches in college football are building relationships with players, not
- 7:55Speaker 1: only as those players come to their school and suit
- 7:58Speaker 1: up for them now, but in the future as well.
- 8:01Speaker 1: When we come back, we wrap up our two of
- 8:04Speaker 1: the Craig Ways show, Keep the Ball Moving down the
- 8:07Speaker 1: Field Xandrew zim Will filling in for Craig Way on
