- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Right up front,
- 0:01SPEAKER_02: I want to say to all the secular humanists,
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: the atheists,
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: the leftists,
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: the godless,
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: the LGBTQ and DEI activists,
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: we Christians,
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: that is,
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: those of us who believe Jesus Christ is the way,
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: the truth,
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: and the life,
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: who believe sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is sin,
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: who believe in closed borders,
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: who believe abortion is murder,
- 0:24who believe the Bible is infallible and the ultimate authority
- 0:28on all matters of
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: morality.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Yes,
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: we Christians,
- 0:31we exist to uphold the truth and to give you an opportunity to
- 0:36confess your sins
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: and receive salvation from our righteous King.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: He is coming soon.
- 0:42You can willingly bow now and be accepted into his kingdom or
- 0:47be forced to bow
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: later and spend eternity in a lake of fire.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: It's your choice.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: I'm just the messenger.
- 0:53And if you're wondering why I chose to interview this

- 1:00SPEAKER_02: knowing what you know about her,
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: knowing what the Deer Valley community knows about her,
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: let's just say I chose to interview her on purpose,
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: if for no other reason than to get your attention.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: You're listening to the Myth of Education podcast,

- 2:15Before our guest comes on in the next segment,
- 2:17I want to play a clip and give you my reaction.
- 2:20These are the public comments of Deer Valley USD board member
- 2:23Stephanie Simacek.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Take a listen.
- 2:26I'm really glad that you shared the federal HB1 bill as well as
- 2:31what we're seeing
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: at the state legislature.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: We continue to hear bills that do nothing for public education.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: It's extremely unfortunate.
- 2:40The ESA vouchers most definitely need to have some
- 2:43accountability and transparency applied.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And now we're seeing at a federal level that
- 2:47One of the questions we repeatedly ask an ed committee when a
- 2:50bill comes through
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: is,
- 2:52what about charter schools or what about those who receive the
- 2:55ESA vouchers?
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: We heard a transparency bill today that would only affect public schools.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And I think that when taxpayer dollars are being...
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: to pay for all of these,
- 3:09that they all need to be accounted for and that we need to make
- 3:12sure that all of
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: the same rules apply to those.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I think that's at minimum what we can do to respect taxpayer dollars.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So I continue to support bills that are pro-public education,
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: making sure that we have accountability and transparency for that.
- 3:29And I will continue to oppose bills that do nothing to help
- 3:34everyday Arizonans.
- 3:35And I will continue to oppose bills that single out certain
- 3:40groups of individuals
- 3:41when I strongly believe that public education is a place for
- 3:45unity and for everyone
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: where everyone belongs.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: First of all, there's nothing that should be done for public schools.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: They are a cesspool of financial corruption,
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: predatory employees,
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: dumbed-down curriculum,
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: and increased displays of perverted celebrations and DEI activism.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Public schools are unworthy of taxpayer dollars.
- 4:09I would rather give $7,000 to a parent who's taking control of
- 4:13their children's
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: education than to pay $10,000 per student.
- 4:18And the best DVUSD can do is produce math and reading
- 4:22proficiencies at 50 to 55%.
- 4:24The last I checked,
- 4:2650 to 55%,
- 4:28is an F.
- 4:30DVUSD in its current state is a failure.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: The enrollment numbers are sketchy at best.
- 4:37So while all the leftist anti-parental rights activists are
- 4:42attacking ESAs and
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: crying out for transparency and accountability,
- 4:47Arizona government schools are wasting billions with a B on
- 4:52rainbow and liberal
- 4:53supremacy activism and producing citizens who can't even write
- 4:57their own names on a
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: job application.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: So yes, the burden of transparency is right where it belongs.
- 5:04Myself and voters like me will continue to oppose anti-parental
- 5:08rights policies and
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: failed leadership tactics that contribute to our state's dismal academic
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: performance.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: Now,
- 5:17I also want to address the godless secular humanists whose name
- 5:22isn't worth the
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: breath that's lobbying against LifeWise and House Bill 2266,
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: which allows students to be excused from school for religious purposes.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: If Mormons can do it, so can Christians.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And no, we're not the same.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Every secular humanist is a hypocrite, to be sure.
- 5:42It's your anti-Christ religion that has dominated public
- 5:46schools for over six decades.
- 5:48Prayer and Bible reading haven't been a staple in public
- 5:52education since 1963.
- 5:53If you bothered to read the Constitution,
- 5:58everything about House Bill 2266 is in order.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Everything about LifeWise is in order.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: In fact,
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Christian teachers right now,
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: according to the First Amendment,
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: you actually do have the right to talk about your faith at any time.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: And if you're fired for it, sue the district.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: If hell-bound people have a right to wave rainbow flags on campus,
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: then you have a right to talk about God.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: After all, he created the rainbow.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: It has seven colors,
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: not six,
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: and the black and brown and lesbian stripes are especially retarded.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: That's the sort of thing that should not be on school grounds.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: So in response to every anti-Christian,
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: anti-parental rights,
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: anti-common sense activist,
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: just know that the resistance isn't going away.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: As I said in my opener,
- 6:43we are here to uphold the truth and to advocate for the safety
- 6:47and well-being of
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: children.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Matthew 18 says that anyone who causes a child to stumble,
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: to lose heart,
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: to sin,
- 6:55it would be better for that person to have a millstone tied
- 6:59around their neck and
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: be drowned in the depths of the sea.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: God said it first.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I'm just repeating what he said.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: So if anyone who's listening in Arizona and across the nation,
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: if you're in the business of purposely seeking to pervert,
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: indoctrinate,
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: and corrupt children,
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: you're accountable for what you've heard.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And now you know where you stand.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Welcome, Kim Fisher, to the Myth of Education podcast.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: I appreciate you taking the time to sit and talk with me.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: I am Kim Fisher.
- 7:34I'm speaking for myself and not the Deer Valley USD Governing
- 7:38Board or any other
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: organization I may be affiliated with.
- 7:43This is all my opinions and my thoughts about any topic that we
- 7:47talk about.
- 7:49So I wanted to walk through your most recent board meeting and
- 7:53thinking about the
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: first 30 minutes of a DVUSD board meeting.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: If a parent or a community member only watched the first 30 minutes,
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: they would think that everything is hunky-dory.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: I mean,
- 8:05from the announcer's nasally high-pitched voice to the audience
- 8:09clapping like seals
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: the whole time.
- 8:11I mean,
- 8:12maybe it's an acoustic thing,
- 8:13you know,
- 8:14because I'm watching it online.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: But I mean, what is the point of the school letter grades?
- 8:18And why do we have a parade at the beginning of every Deer
- 8:21Valley board meeting?
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Well, that's not just for school letter grades.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: You know,
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: originally,
- 8:27we used to have awards and ceremonies for kids that had done
- 8:34great things for
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: competitions for our students.
- 8:38It used to be a very organic and very pleasant event that we
- 8:43used to have.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: And it was a part of our governing board meetings.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: It was always positive.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: It was always about the kids, always centered with the kids.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: Then around 2017,
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: 18,
- 8:56the new superintendent decided it would be best if it was no
- 9:01longer a part of the
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: board meeting,
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: but rather was before the board meeting.
- 9:05At times,
- 9:06we still do definitely celebrate the kids,
- 9:08but most of the time it is marketing.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Some of the awards are very real.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know that this A-plus is really a positive thing or not.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: I think it's somewhat misleading for parents.
- 9:23You can be an A-plus school district or an A-plus school and
- 9:28have a lot of failing students.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: In fact, have a overall failing grade.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: The criteria for the
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: the accountability isn't necessarily the performance of the kids.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: There's a whole series of things that are done to gain that.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: And it's not necessarily proficiency.
- 9:50SPEAKER_03: It's not even necessarily based on children.
- 9:53I will tell you that some of our schools try very,
- 9:55very,
- 9:56very hard to obtain that.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: I think the marketing of it is more the district,
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: but the schools themselves do work hard to earn recognition as well.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: Why do you think the school letter grade,
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: the system that basically the ADE came up with,
- 10:17why are we not basing this on proficiency and the success rate
- 10:23of the students
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: being able to master basic subjects?
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Why can't we have a school letter grade based on education?
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: You know, that's a great question.
- 10:33I would love to talk to the Department of Education and ask
- 10:35them why they have it
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: set the way it is.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Because a lot of times,
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: I mean,
- 10:41we've dropped grades for nothing more than opening a new school
- 10:46and it not being
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: around long enough.
- 10:49to count,
- 10:51and we've gone up just because the paperwork was filled out a
- 10:54certain way.
- 10:55So if the A to F accountability that the Department of Ed came
- 10:59up with is not
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: significant to telling us that there's proficiency,
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: that there's good results at this school,
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: then I would question what the purpose of it is.
- 11:10And I think that's a wonderful conversation,
- 11:13especially now that this is an election year.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: We should be asking that of the candidates.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: You know, Kimberly Yee, what does she think about it?
- 11:21I think that would be a great thing to know because it needs to
- 11:24be meaningful.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: If it's not meaningful, I don't know why we're bothering to do it.
- 11:28I think people have gotten better at filling out the answers
- 11:31and the paperwork.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but I don't personally care about the paperwork.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: I care about the kids and their proficiency.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Well,
- 11:39perhaps when there are opportunities for Kimberly Yee to speak
- 11:45to her constituents
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: specifically about the school letter grades,
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: we will get something coherent.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know if Tom would be able to give us something coherent.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: He seems to think that the success of any school district in Arizona,
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: it lives or dies by him being in office.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: And so perhaps the school letter grades are...
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: based on whether or not he's in office.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: Well, it started before him, and I assume it would continue after him.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: But,
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: I will happily send him an email and ask that question,
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: because if it's not based on proficiency,
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: what's the point?
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 12:26So someone filled out an open meeting law complaint against
- 12:32DVUSD governing board,
- 12:33and it stuck.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know that that was a real thing.
- 12:37I know I have filled out many complaints and the good for
- 12:41nothing AG's office only
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: responded to me once Trump was reelected.
- 12:45Some of those complaints were like two or three years old and I
- 12:48forgot that I had
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: even filed them.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: So for the audience,
- 12:51can you explain what is open meeting law and why did DVUSD
- 12:55sustain that reprimand
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: from the AG?
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: This one's hilarious.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: You're going to love this one.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Their finding wasn't on DVUSD or the board.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: It was on me specifically, which I find hilarious.
- 13:08I myself have filed open meeting law complaints on DVUSD
- 13:11because they regularly violate.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: And you're right.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: The AG's office does nothing.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Absolutely nothing.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Our meetings are to be open to the public.
- 13:21An open meeting law violation is when we either we do something
- 13:25that shuts out the
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: public,
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: because if we were to have a meeting and we did not allow the public in,
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: we did not allow the public to hear,
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: that was not an executive session.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: But executive sessions are special.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: Because there are times when we're allowed to talk confidential.
- 13:43There's very few subjects that we're allowed to talk about
- 13:46confidential in executive sessions.
- 13:49But the thing with an executive session is you are not allowed
- 13:53to share it with anyone.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: I don't come home and tell my husband about it.
- 13:57I don't come home and tell my family about it because it is a
- 14:00confidential meeting.
- 14:02And there is absolutely no reason the superintendent should go
- 14:06home and tell his
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: wife about it either.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: So that's part of that.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: The other side of the open meeting law...
- 14:12is the confidentiality for executive sessions and the
- 14:17transparency in our open
- 14:19meetings which means that we have to make sure that the public
- 14:24can have as much
- 14:26information as possible about our meetings about the content
- 14:31and be able to view
- 14:32our conversations in our discussions so if you notice my
- 14:36questions were very
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: pointed and they were very purposeful
- 14:39because one of the times that they violated executive session
- 14:44was administration
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: told a candidate what the contents of an executive session was.
- 14:49And the AG's office found no problem because they claimed that
- 14:53because she was the
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: topic of conversation,
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: she could.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: The law doesn't read that way.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: Our attorney claims that it's that way.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: I can't find anything that says it's okay except for a typo in the
- 15:06county attorney's handbook but the law itself does not read
- 15:10that way so this
- 15:11finding i honestly feel like a conspiracy theorist even talking
- 15:15about it because
- 15:17all i can think of is either a lawyer is best friends with
- 15:20someone in that office
- 15:22or someone in the ag's office is somehow connected to deer
- 15:25valley because we
- 15:29violate open meeting law all the time and everyone that reports
- 15:34it it never sticks
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: but this one
- 15:38This was that recording where I was talking with the wife of
- 15:41the superintendent,
- 15:43and she kept saying over and over something that I had said in
- 15:47an executive
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: session.
- 15:49And finally,
- 15:50I said,
- 15:51in the recording,
- 15:52I said,
- 15:53you shouldn't even know that.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: It's from executive session.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: I said,
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: I can't say exactly what I said,
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: but I told her something along the lines of,
- 16:02SPEAKER_03: but since you know it already,
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you why I said it.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: Now, I did not tell her anything that happened in the executive session.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Did not tell her anything that was in there.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: I told her how I felt, how I feel in my heart, how I feel in my being.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: And that is why I said what I said.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Why did she know?
- 16:24She knew because the superintendent went home and told her what
- 16:27was said in the meeting.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: He tells her and shares confidential information.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: And she has access to records that she absolutely should not have.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: And has for a long time.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: But we're on a board that has no accountability for him.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: So he gets away with it, she gets away with it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so a complaint was filed.
- 16:48But instead of the AG admonishing the superintendent for going
- 16:52home and telling his
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: wife,
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: they found that my explaining my feelings of why I said what I said was a
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: violation.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: Honestly, Deer Valley doesn't inform the board about a lot.
- 17:06So we have not even really been kept in the loop on any of the
- 17:10potential changes of schools.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: Now,
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: we're not closing any schools,
- 17:16SPEAKER_03: but even moving the boundaries,
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: we're not really being informed about those either.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: The superintendent keeps a lot of that to himself,
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: or he keeps it in hidden committees,
- 17:26or he shares it with the board members one by one so that he
- 17:29has a guaranteed three
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: votes.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: As far as discussions,
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: if you watch our meetings,
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: there's really no discussion on really any topic.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: It's mostly just rubber stamping.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Minimal information.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I gathered that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: So let's talk about that one public comment at the last board meeting.
- 17:48And obviously this was in the context of the ICE raids that we
- 17:52are seeing around the country.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: And despite DVUSD being predominantly a white neighborhood district,
- 18:01the high school student activists made a comment about black
- 18:04and brown and
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: immigrant students feeling safe on school grounds.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: So first off,
- 18:08there's not a lot of black people in Deer Valley or Arizona or
- 18:12the United States at
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: large.
- 18:13My community makes up less than 14 percent of the total
- 18:16population after hundreds
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: of years of occupying this country.
- 18:20And,
- 18:20you know,
- 18:20black on black crime and abortion has definitely held us back.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: But that's a topic for another podcast.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: The students comment, again, was in context of the ICE raids.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: From what I have seen,
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: These raids have net zero percent to do with school districts.
- 18:36I have not seen the video yet of any ICE agent that's been
- 18:41spotted on public school
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: grounds dragging an illegal alien minor from a classroom.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: But what say you?
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Are black,
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: brown and illegal immigrant students in danger of law enforcement,
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: violence and deportation while they're attending a Deer Valley school?
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: You know, you're correct.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: I have not seen,
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: neither at Deer Valley or Phoenix Union when I worked there,
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: I never saw a threat from ICE whatsoever against students.
- 19:08I just have never seen,
- 19:10I've never even heard of ICE threatening to come to schools.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: I give the young lady that came kudos just because...
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: At least she's coming forward to a board meeting and talking.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: But there are no, I've seen no threats of raids.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: And, you know, I did make sure I prefaced that I do understand.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: I know everybody looks at me and sees a white girl, but I am Hispanic.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: I did have an uncle who was from Mexico who faced immigration concerns,
- 19:41who did at one point have to go back to Mexico to fix something
- 19:45in the paperwork
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: before he could come back.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: And he was married to my aunt.
- 19:50So just because you're married does not necessarily mean that
- 19:53everything is hunky dory.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: I think our immigration system has problems.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: But those are not going to be fixed by breaking the law.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: They're not going to be fixed by students protesting.
- 20:07I was highly disappointed in the students and the
- 20:13administrations that allowed them
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: to just blatantly disregard the law,
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: all of our policies,
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: and just walk out of our campuses.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: To your knowledge, who organized the walkouts?
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm not really sure.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: I started getting stuff sent to me the day that they were doing it,
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: that a flyer that had been going around.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: So it could have been student, directly student organized.
- 20:43But the fact that our administrators called the police to let
- 20:49them know that this
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: was going on,
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: according to a letter from the principal,
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: It said that they escorted them, you know, off the campus or whatever.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: So they kept them safe up to the point of off the campus.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: I can't believe that they didn't at least know that it was occurring.
- 21:07But one of the things that he said in his letter was teaching
- 21:11students is not just
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: math and science and reading.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: It's also being responsible citizens.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: Well, this is a prime example of what's not responsible.
- 21:21You know,
- 21:22responsible would be to come in early and do your protest
- 21:27before school.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: Stay late.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: Do your protest after school.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: Do it at your lunchtime.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Do a protest at lunch.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: But to walk out at 930 in the morning,
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: disrupt classes,
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: and then be allowed to come back and further disrupt classes,
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: that makes no sense.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: None of the laws or policies were followed.
- 21:51And as far as I know,
- 21:54there's going to be no consequence to anybody beyond being
- 21:57marked absent.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: this whole display has just been a demonstration of lawlessness.
- 22:03So what Arizona statutes and district policies specifically
- 22:08were broken during these protests?
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: Title 15 has it all in there.
- 22:13There is students' responsibilities that they are going to
- 22:16follow the direction
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: of the district or of the learning environment,
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: that they will attend school,
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: that they will be there to learn and whatnot.
- 22:28Even if you just look at our student rights and
- 22:30responsibilities handbook,
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: they are not to be walking off campus.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: They're not to just walk out of a class the way they did.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: They also, from what I understand, we have a dress code.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: And that dress code says that you are not allowed to have profanities.
- 22:46you're if you were to say have the f word and any anything f f
- 22:52you know biden f
- 22:54trump any of them it it's not even political one side or the
- 22:57other it's not allowed
- 22:59the f word on your shirt is not allowed they don't allow
- 23:02profanities and these
- 23:04students had f ice on their shirts why weren't they dress coded
- 23:09if nothing else
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: I never said that they don't have the right to have their free speech,
- 23:15but what they do not have a right to do is to disrupt the
- 23:19learning environment.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: They don't have the right to be abusive to teachers or abusive to the
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: administration or to the other students or to just walk out.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: We have rules for a reason.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: And I do think they should be suspended.
- 23:33They should have an in-school suspension where they don't miss
- 23:37any of their work.
- 23:38And in their extra time when they're on that in-school
- 23:41suspension,
- 23:42give them a civic class.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: Teach them how to make...
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: a law or change a law, because then they might be able to do something.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Just walking out didn't do anything for anybody.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Well,
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think that it's in the activist teachers,
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: the activist counselors,
- 24:01the activist employees' favor for kids to know how to civically
- 24:07engage their First
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: Amendment rights.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: That would just be too much common sense to have
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: gone through this the right way and done it before school, after school.
- 24:17But I do just want to say,
- 24:19for the record,
- 24:20that an anti-ICE protest is lawless.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: The morality behind why these protests took place, it's no good.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: It is an anti-American, anti-law enforcement walkout protest.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: That's how I feel about it.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: We cannot have open borders.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: We
- 24:41just coming into our country terrorists from other countries
- 24:45just coming across the
- 24:45border and being released the reality is if you go to any other
- 24:50country and think
- 24:51you're just going to walk across their border they're not going
- 24:54to allow it no
- 24:56other country would allow you just to cross their border and do
- 25:00what you want
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: without following any of their rules so why should america
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it doesn't make any sense.
- 25:08If the concern of that young student that made the public
- 25:13comment or any student,
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: if the concern is a matter of safety,
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: whether they're on school grounds or not,
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: then they should want the borders to be closed.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: We have people coming into this country where rape,
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: torture and murder is just a part of their culture.
- 25:29We now have those illegal aliens from those cultures that will
- 25:33come here and rape
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: and kill Americans.
- 25:37I wonder if that student activist that made that comment has
- 25:40ever heard of the name Lakin Riley.
- 25:43That was a young girl who lost her life in a fight against an
- 25:47illegal immigrant who
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: was trying to rape her.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: And he ended up crushing her skull.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: She was on a college campus.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: So we want to talk about student safety.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: And if we want to talk about feeling safe in this country,
- 25:59the students really need to get a grip and get a grasp and an
- 26:04understanding that
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: of what ICE is actually doing.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: They're trying to secure our country.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: But we know, Kim, there is an ideology at work behind these.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: There is.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: And right off the bat, student safety means that they're on campus.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: They are not just allowed to run free.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: So right off the bat, the whole walkout is is against student safety.
- 26:27Because not a single one of those students was safe in what
- 26:30they were doing.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Agreed.
- 26:32There are illegal aliens from countries all over the world
- 26:37finding their way in.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: And you're correct.
- 26:40They are not all from cultures that are safe,
- 26:45that they don't even see females as people.
- 26:49The most dangerous illegal immigrants that have come to this
- 26:52country are from
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: Middle Eastern countries,
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: not Mexico.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: They might come through Mexico, but they're not from there.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: So I mean, this is not a racist.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: It's not a racist thing.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: It's a security and America keeping America safe.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: You know, that that is what it is.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: If they want to follow our rules,
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: they can follow our rules and come to this country the right way.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: And they would be welcomed.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Agreed.
- 27:19So you said a moment ago that you felt that all of the students
- 27:25should should have
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: to go through an in school suspension for the walkouts.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: I think that the students should be punished.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: by out-of-school suspension.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Now, I realize for a lot of them that would just be a free vacation.
- 27:37But what an out-of-school suspension would do is it would force
- 27:41the parents to have
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: to take off work to sit at home with their kids.
- 27:46That's whose attention that I would want to get by suspending
- 27:50them all outside of the school.
- 27:52Because there is no way that these children organized a protest
- 27:57like that.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: And it's not just Deer Valley.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: You know, this happened in Peoria.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: This happened down in Tucson.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: This happened in school districts across the whole United States.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: There is no way that these kids sat and organized all of this,
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: whether it was on social media or whatever,
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: and the parents just knew nothing.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 28:17I'm just as surprised as the administration was that my child
- 28:20came to school just
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: to walk out the door.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: I don't believe that, not for a second or a minute.
- 28:25And I think that the employees,
- 28:26the government workers who allowed it,
- 28:29who permitted it,
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: I think that they should be fired.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: Well,
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: I think if there was somebody that you could pinpoint,
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: say,
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: this teacher is activist out of their classroom,
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: I definitely think there should be consequences.
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: The problem is,
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: and this is what I tell teachers all the time,
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: especially because I know there are some really good teachers.
- 28:49SPEAKER_03: I know there are some problematic ones.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: But what I tell all the really good ones is, look, you know what?
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: You need to speak up.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: I'd never understood this.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Why they stay silent is
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: when the bad ones are acting out.
- 29:03And I can't explain that,
- 29:05you know,
- 29:06but there's a lot of issues that we have to address.
- 29:10I guess the first start would be is acknowledging that the
- 29:13parents are the primary educators.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: Parents have the say and parents need to be involved.
- 29:20Every child I have seen who is highly successful,
- 29:23their parents are highly involved.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: I agree with that.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: And I want to say that your boardroom is empty.
- 29:32I have been to more board meetings in the last year than those
- 29:37who are actually
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: your constituents.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: Why is your boardroom so empty?
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Well...
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: I think it's fear on one level.
- 29:46If you notice,
- 29:46we don't even have the podium up front where the people can
- 29:49speak and be seen.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: That's why I had started recording our meetings.
- 29:55You know,
- 29:55I got a lot of flack for that from,
- 29:57of course,
- 29:57one side of the aisle.
- 29:59But on the other side,
- 30:00they were like,
- 30:01you know,
- 30:02no,
- 30:02we want you to record them.
- 30:03SPEAKER_03: So they asked me to go back to recording them.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Parents are afraid.
- 30:07You know,
- 30:07during the whole COVID thing,
- 30:09there are multiple constituents,
- 30:11whether they're
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: Whether they're parents or not,
- 30:14they have a right to be in our boardroom and in our board
- 30:19meetings because they are
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: our constituents.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: They are the taxpayers.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: They were excluded.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Some of them were legally trespassed.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: And I think that's a problem.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: You know,
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: superintendents,
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: especially ours,
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: have gotten to where they have power and it's just pure power.
- 30:40All the public school administrations have pure power that they
- 30:43should not have.
- 30:44These are unelected bureaucratic boneheads who are very
- 30:49overpaid and they don't
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: know the law like our board members do.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: They don't take an oath to a constitution.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: They just apply for a job.
- 30:59And if they can manipulate the board of the way it has happened
- 31:03in Deer Valley,
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: then they have zero oversight.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: There is no oversight in Deer Valley whatsoever.
- 31:09Unless we can get a board that is willing to do the job and
- 31:15hold accountable,
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: nothing's going to change.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: But our parents, we have some that are afraid.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: A lot of them, we're very active with coming.
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: They no longer come because they've pulled their kids.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: They've given up.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: I've had parents tell me,
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry,
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: but I'm leaving because nothing I say can make things better.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: And you're up there alone.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: So there's really not much you can do either.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: And they're right.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: I can't argue with them.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Well,
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: here's another thing that I think is not working,
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: and you can correct me on this,
- 31:47because I've seen your comments and then I've seen comments
- 31:51from other parents in
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: different parent groups,
- 31:53and I think that there's definitely an outcry that's happening
- 31:57in Deer Valley USD
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: where the parents' constituents,
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: they feel unheard.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: However,
- 32:03I don't believe that just complaining on social media in the
- 32:06parent groups,
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's accomplishing anything.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: In my mind,
- 32:10I imagine district leaders laughing and mocking disgruntled
- 32:15parents and taxpayers
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: who won't face them and hold them accountable.
- 32:20I do think that this is a situation that needs to change
- 32:23because if you've got a
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: parent group that's on a social media platform and you're running 100,
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: 200,
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: and some of these groups,
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: 600,
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: 1,000 strong,
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: my strategy to them,
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: if any of them are listening,
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: my strategy would be
- 32:38Find six or seven,
- 32:39eight or nine extroverted,
- 32:42bold people and rotate them.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Have a few of them show up every board meeting and make a public comment.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Make a comment on issues that are on the agenda.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Make a comment on issues that are not on the agenda.
- 32:56In Deer Valley specifically,
- 32:58there should be someone from the community every board meeting
- 33:01that
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: who is making it known what they expect that 15% override to accomplish.
- 33:09There was a lot of money that was spent on campaigning to get
- 33:12that override,
- 33:13and they got it.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: The leaders in Deer Valley, they got what they wanted.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: They have all this money, even though your enrollment is declining.
- 33:21If I were a Deer Valley resident,
- 33:23I would be in the board meeting as often as possible.
- 33:26And I would also be putting meetings on calendars of the
- 33:30leadership to let them
- 33:31know what my expectations are now that I have to pay additional
- 33:35taxes for this
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: override.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: I agree with you.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: I am one board member.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: I will speak up for you.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: I will bring light to it if I can, but I can't change anything.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: You need three votes.
- 33:51and and the superintendent knows that he says it in board
- 33:54meetings all of a sudden
- 33:55well if you can get three votes you know so it's it's blatant
- 33:59just disregard for
- 34:01the community but it's up to the community and that's what i
- 34:04tell them get your
- 34:06community together if this really bothers you and y'all need to
- 34:10come and speak at a
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: meeting if the board members that are rubber stamping everything
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: are held accountable by you coming in and speaking.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: So at this point, it is in the hands of the public.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: We used to have the public come all the time.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: And they filled our room.
- 34:31And that's why they moved the comments and stuff all the way to
- 34:33the end of the meeting.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: That's all a strategy.
- 34:36If you look at when I was board president,
- 34:38the comments were at the front of the meeting.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: Anytime there's been a pro-parent board president,
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: the comments are moved to the front of the meeting.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: Anytime there's a pro-admin board,
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Board president, the comments are moved to the very end of the meeting.
- 34:55It's because they count on you getting tired of not sitting
- 34:59through that meeting
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: and coming to talk.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: That is a strategy that I think constituents need to be aware of.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: Your board is supposed to be a conservative majority,
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: but right now,
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: to me,
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: it looks like a mess.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: I see two conservatives.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: I see two assertive Democrats.
- 35:16And then I see a soft Democrat that identifies as a Republican
- 35:19that the LDs continue to back.
- 35:22And that's unfortunate because DVUSD is not as far gone as some
- 35:26districts.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: You're not Scottsdale.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: You're not Mesa.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: You're not Tucson Unified.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: Deer Valley, in my opinion, is not that far gone.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: You have an election that's coming up this November.
- 35:38What candidates should Deer Valley residents be looking at to
- 35:41regain a common sense
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: majority on your board?
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Well, the only one I know of for sure is David Alvarado.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: And I think he is a strong individual who will hold to his values.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: So I do believe he's a good one.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping we find another.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: We need one more good, strong candidate.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: We need Carver to be gone.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: He is the most damaging I've ever seen.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: He's supposed to be a Republican.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: And Simicek needs to be gone.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: I don't think she's running.
- 36:13I think she's just running for legislature,
- 36:15which she needs to not be there either.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: She is anti-Christian above all else.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Anybody who's listening,
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: if you're in Deer Valley and you're willing to run,
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: just have a belief and stand by your belief.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: And don't lie about it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: Win on what you believe.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: Stand for the parents.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: Well, I appreciate all of your insights.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: And thank you for coming on the podcast.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: Do you have any final thoughts for your constituents?
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Well,
- 36:45the only thing I can say is one that I keep telling everybody
- 36:49is complaining online
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: or discussing online or in text is not going to do any good.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: We need you to show up at our board meetings.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Deer Valley should have a full room of people online.
- 37:04who are setting the expectations so please take the invitation
- 37:09of coming to the
- 37:10meetings and standing up for your kids you can stand up for
- 37:14them now in school or

- 37:22direction of kids that are
- 37:23not taught they run amok and they don't have bright futures so
