- 2:56Whoa. Like Nate said, not entirely
- 3:00sure what it's going to look like.

- 3:25very much looking forward to building up a community over
- 3:29there on Patreon. So go check it.
- 3:30Out. It cost less than a Starbucks
- 3:34cup of coffee a month. That's it.
- 3:36Just about everything. What a deal.
- 3:39What a deal, JB. That's not supportive.
- 3:41Oh. Sorry, hold on.
- 3:44Hold on. What?
- 3:45No rewind. No, it's all right.
- 3:48In this economy, you're saying everything is cheaper than a
- 3:50Starbucks? Cup of coffee point.
- 3:52That's a very. Good .0 No, you're that's a
- 3:53slight. OK, it's.
- 3:55More of a jab at Starbucks. It was just a jab at Starbucks.
- 3:58I gotcha. I was.
- 3:59Really timed. Poorly timed.
- 4:01I was like. I was like, whoa, I was with
- 4:04Nate. I was like, not supportive, but
- 4:05I taking a jab at Starbucks. Well, dessert.
- 4:07I'm a Duncan guy, so take all the jabs you want.
- 4:10Boo. Starbucks stocks Speaking of
- 4:13Speaking of Duncan, let's talk about Framer Valdez.
- 4:15News just dropped before we hopped on, so great timing.
- 4:25Three-year, $150 million contract.
- 4:28And if you're sitting there still wondering the connection
- 4:30between Duncan and Framer Valdez, there is none.
- 4:33But let's talk about Framer Valdez.
- 4:36Pass and drop. The news on Twitter gets the
- 4:40highest to AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher, as well as
- 4:45the highest for a Latin American pitcher.
- 4:47For those keeping track at home. Do we like this fit Framber in
- 4:51Framber in Detroit? Do we like the 1-2 punch of
- 4:53Tarek Scubble and Framber Valdez?
- 4:56Do we think that this automatically means, And I'm
- 4:59sure by the time you're hearing this, we'll know already, but do
- 5:01we assume that this means Tarek Scubble lost his arbitration
- 5:03case or the Tigers lost the arbitration case?
- 5:11Look, we've talked about arbitration, dude.
- 5:12Like I don't think people understand that this goes to a
- 5:16courtroom and it is literally an arbitrator sitting in the middle
- 5:21and you're you're having a team lawyer.
- 5:24Arbitrator. Is it arbiter?
- 5:28Either way. Yeah, it's like a Terminator,
- 5:30but for arbitration. Terminator.
- 5:32And there's a lawyer on the team side that is basically telling
- 5:37Josh. Can you confirm that?
- 5:39Why? That player is not worth the
- 5:42dollar amount that they're asking for and they just pull
- 5:46out everything and it ruins relationships.
- 5:49That's the whole point. So when you see these updates of
- 5:52like, you know, a couple months ago of like, you know, team and
- 5:56player agree to a number to avoid arbitration, like avoiding
- 5:59arbitration is a good thing. It's a big deal.
- 6:02This is just crazy because it's rare to see a guy that, you
- 6:08know, we're talking about off air.
- 6:09That's like a late bloomer who is kind of deep but still in
- 6:13control. And he's also like very much in
- 6:15his prime. And it's every once in a while
- 6:18these types of players kind of pop up.
- 6:19So anytime you go to arbitration court, I think it's already a
- 6:26risk that that's relationship is over, you know, whether they
- 6:32agree, whether they lose, whether they win, you know,
- 6:35whoever. But like, it's also what's said
- 6:38in that courtroom, right? Like it's what that team lawyer
- 6:41is saying to try and settle for less money.
- 6:44So I would go ahead and assume that's probably done.
- 6:52And I don't care if they lost or won.
- 6:55I like the rotation. And while he's still a Tiger, I
- 7:00mean, that's nice dude. You got Flaherty in the three
- 7:03hole and some depth with like did Casey Mize start to figure
- 7:09some stuff out last year right, like?
- 7:11I'm rooting so hard for Casey Mize man.
- 7:14I want him to be good so bad. I know, I know.
- 7:18And we've seen, we've seen brilliance from Reese Olson.
- 7:21So right, if that, if that rotation can find it
- 7:25collectively, that's going to be a dangerous rotation.
- 7:29Yeah. It is a group of arbitrators,
- 7:32not arbiters. Good call though it there's
- 7:37there are slight differences between the two.
- 7:40What? What?
- 7:41A group of arbitrators? So what's a single one then?
- 7:45An. Arbitrator.
- 7:46It's still an arbitrator. Yeah, but MLB specifically the
- 7:50I, I there is a group. Not necessarily.
- 7:52Oh, present you mean? Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 7:53There's not just one, but it's got you.
- 7:55It's just salary disputes that they settle.
- 7:58And from from my understanding of what I'm reading, an
- 8:01arbitrator is a neutral third party to resolve disputes
- 8:06through formal blah blah, and arbiters A broader term for a
- 8:10person with authority to settle disputes.
- 8:14Less formal? Not necessarily.
- 8:17Yeah, I'm going to take it as a win.
- 8:18I'm That's a win. That's a win for the kid.
- 8:20Win for the kid for sure. Absolutely.
- 8:22There's they come that's few and far between, you know?
- 8:24It's also not just a not just a word thing.
- 8:26There are actually 2 two things, right?
- 8:30So it's not like do they call that this or do they call it
- 8:32that, but they're. Yeah, it's like Mayo or
- 8:34mayonnaise, you know, it's both can be, right.
- 8:38So arbiter is also a word. It is, yes, it is a word.
- 8:42It's just a different. Not a, Not a doesn't apply here.
- 8:45I'll still take that as a win so.
- 8:46That's what I'm saying. Yeah.
- 8:47They're that's what I'm saying. They're both words.
- 8:49Win, win, win. We all win for having
- 8:53successfully resolved the conflict.
- 8:55No, the Josh, I wanted to, I wanted to bring up a point
- 9:02because I don't know if you saw, but I actually just got around
- 9:06to posting the clip of you and I's conversation when, when Nate
- 9:10was out partying or whatever he was doing in his work, work
- 9:13conference, our conference or our conversation about Framberg.
- 9:18Because at that point, rumors were starting to pick up a
- 9:20little bit, some momentum was starting to pick up a little bit
- 9:22there. So I finally got around to
- 9:25posting that yesterday, last night, maybe two nights ago,
- 9:29talking about how you just can't brush the incident from this
- 9:35past season under the rug. I seem to have gotten a decent
- 9:39amount of pushback on that being like, no, the only reason that
- 9:42he's unsigned right now is the QO and I had to push back and be
- 9:47like, can it not be both? Like can it not be a situation
- 9:51because is it just because a guy has Aqo doesn't?
- 9:54Like guys with Q OS just don't go unsigned all the time Like
- 9:58that doesn't happen. But my point is, is this plays a
- 10:03huge or I thought it played a huge factor in his market or
- 10:08call it lack thereof. I don't know.
- 10:10And I would be curious to get your all's thoughts on whether
- 10:13or not you feel like that incident was a reason as to why
- 10:17his market got delayed this long?
- 10:22I think it kind of got blown out of proportion.
- 10:24I mean, I and I get it. I get that it's ugly.
- 10:27I get that it's like that is going to leave.
- 10:31It's probably going to cross some teams off the list.
- 10:36But is it any different than like, you know, throwing your
- 10:38teammate in a chokehold in in the dugout, you know, like we've
- 10:42seen? And I brought that up.
- 10:43Between teammates before, I think this is obviously one
- 10:49could argue maybe more of a dangerous attempt at set a
- 10:55quarrel, if you will, just dropping knowledge all over the
- 10:59place. I don't know.
- 11:02I don't think it I mean, it's he's still really good and you
- 11:06know, like you, it's it's not like he's the first troublesome
- 11:09player that's out there and up for grabs.
- 11:11Like there's there's names, you know, forever, as in all of
- 11:17sports that exists where you're like, does this fit our culture?
- 11:21Are we willing to sacrifice, you know, continuity in the
- 11:27clubhouse for more skill on the field?
- 11:32You know comedy. Big words, I'm telling you.
- 11:35He's Who are you good? Who are you and what did you do
- 11:39with Nate? I think that there was more to
- 11:45this. I think that's why it ended up
- 11:46being a three-year deal and not something else.
- 11:49He could have gotten a lot more than this.
- 11:51I also think that the talent is so good that there was no way
- 11:56that somebody wasn't going to let that.
- 11:58But I said I wasn't going to bring it up.
- 12:00But it is interesting. The Pirates were never going to
- 12:02sign Framer Valdez. Let's just say that, OK?
- 12:04But the Pirates have employed the former pitching coach in
- 12:08Houston and they were a team this week where they said this
- 12:12team is interested. No, don't do that.
- 12:14Don't do that. They never had a chance.
- 12:15The point is, is they were interested and they had a former
- 12:19pitching coach of his on their team, right?
- 12:21And that's the only reason I bring this up.
- 12:23Who did he end up going to? AJ Hinch and the Tigers,
- 12:26somebody who's familiar with him.
- 12:28So when you talk about the two teams that that were in the news
- 12:31this week of saying aggressively going after it, even though we
- 12:36all know he was never going to Pittsburgh, they are.
- 12:39They are teams with a former coach of his who doesn't have
- 12:45maybe the same questions that somebody who doesn't know him
- 12:49might have. Sure.
- 12:51You were building that up. You had me thinking, yeah, a
- 12:55piece of crap human being going to play for a piece of crap
- 12:58human being. That's where I thought you were
- 13:00going with that. Oh.
- 13:01That's not where else. I'm glad.
- 13:03Well, you're, you're like, Oh yeah.
- 13:05Who who's he going to play for? AJ?
- 13:07Right. No.
- 13:08I see the connection. I see the connection.
- 13:11There is a familiarity of of guys that did know him that do
- 13:14know him and they were willing to go out and get this done.
- 13:19So I think that while there were teams that were nervous about
- 13:22this and I don't think that the that the catcher cross up is the
- 13:25only thing that's what and maybe maybe just this process has
- 13:30telling us that there's more to that.
- 13:32And we heard about, I talked about it on the other show, that
- 13:35he's got a 25 minute video where only 5 of it is baseball
- 13:38highlights and the other 20 minutes is trying to convince
- 13:41people he's all right. I got to watch that.
- 13:43I still haven't gotten around to watch.
- 13:45Is it out there? I'm very what?
- 13:47Oh, is this just something that was reported?
- 13:49Is it not like, yeah, they this is just what they're passing
- 13:53around internally to others? Presenting this to teams.
- 13:56Oh, OK, This is just like a pitch.
- 13:58I don't. Know that that that it's out
- 13:59there. That would be fantastic.
- 14:01I thought this was just like a Framer Valdez YouTube account
- 14:03and he's just like, hey guys, just so you know, I'm actually
- 14:08not 1/2 bad guy. That would be fantastic.
- 14:12All right. I feel like, last note, I feel
- 14:16like the Orioles once again kind of poop down their leg when it
- 14:20came to the free agency pitching market.
- 14:24So. There's a note there.
- 14:27Moving on. Great.
- 14:29Great move for the Tigers though.
- 14:32Yeah, love the rotation, softish landing.
- 14:36I don't know, there's an opt out, right?
- 14:38There's an opt out after the second year and there is some
- 14:40deferrals. I haven't seen what they are
- 14:42yet, but there are there are some.
- 14:44There's some deferred money. Opt out after the second year.
- 14:48Second year's smart too, because there might not be a 2027 so you
- 14:52might as well get paid. What it can, Can you remind me
- 14:56what the contract structure is for Alonzo's contract?
- 15:02It's not possible he's gone after this year.
- 15:04Is it? Because I was going to say, you
- 15:07mentioned you mentioned missing out on framework for the OS and
- 15:12it had me thinking like, well, you can't after after going out
- 15:17and getting Alonso, you can't say they're entirely allergic to
- 15:20bringing in the big name. But if if it's one of these
- 15:23Corbin burns opt out situations again, then I can't give I can't
- 15:26even give them that credit. So I I need reminded on on what?
- 15:30He no opt outs. No opt outs, and that's for 535.
- 15:35Five years 155 No opt outs limited, no trade clause.
- 15:41OK. But again, maybe I'm not.
- 15:43We already made the point. I can't say that like the
- 15:48Orioles completely missed if if they feel like that's not the
- 15:52fit for them specifically based on, you know, that incident.
- 15:56And maybe it's a little bit of like a, you know, cancer to
- 16:00their culture. Like, I get that.
- 16:02But at the same time, it just kind of felt like that was the
- 16:05last name. They've already had a great
- 16:07offseason. I feel like they're making
- 16:09strides and it's just this just felt like a a miss.
- 16:12Based on their needs, but like you said, you take into account
- 16:15the other factors and might might have not been.
- 16:18But that issue, that issue was there before he was the last big
- 16:21fish, you know what I mean? Like, we knew that already.
- 16:24So like, why didn't they go get someone else?
- 16:29Eugenio Suarez Next up on our lists one year deal with the
- 16:34Cincinnati Reds. I'm Josh.
- 16:39Were you and I talking about this before we hopped on?
- 16:41I'm glad he didn't end up in Boston.
- 16:46Improving the defense was one of the team's biggest needs that
- 16:52they were claiming. So if you're going to get rid of
- 16:56Rafael Devers and ultimately, I mean, I know obviously Bregman,
- 17:04but if, if Suarez is in that pipeline, what what are we
- 17:10really, what are we really saying there?
- 17:14Not to make this about the Red Sox, but I, I just know that
- 17:16talking about, you know, going back to how certain teams are
- 17:20tied to certain guys. The Sox were one of those as
- 17:22were the Pirates actually. Let's go Pirates.
- 17:26But alas, does not end up with either of those ends up back in
- 17:29Cincinnati with a little reunion. 15,000,000 did already
- 17:34mention mutual option for the 2027 season.
- 17:38Side note a mutual option has not been picked up by any Major
- 17:42League Baseball player since the year 2014.
- 17:47Name that player. Oh, I actually don't know.
- 17:49I just heard somebody saying that.
- 17:51Do you know it? No, that's why I'm telling you
- 17:57guys to name that player. I've got some great pulls.
- 18:02I've had some good pulls over the years, but I don't have
- 18:04that. Can I throw out a name and just
- 18:07see how far? See how close or how far?
- 18:10This is kind of like a little impromptu trivia.
- 18:13The last player to pick up a mutual option back in 2014.
- 18:23Give me like a Give me like a Lorenzo Kane.
- 18:35I don't think I have it, but what I do have, as far as what
- 18:40I've searched for, one example is before the 2013 season.
- 18:47Oh, it says 20/13/2014 either way.
- 18:51Yeah, OK, Maybe this is it. It's the Colorado Rockies, and
- 18:55it's Matt Belial, the how you say it, Belial Classic.
- 19:03Yep. That's the last player.
- 19:08Close. Lorenzo Kane was close.
- 19:10Jason Giambi 1,000,000 for 2012. As a guardian Indian, what was
- 19:17he back then? How?
- 19:18Close was your guest, Nate. I didn't have one because I knew
- 19:21it was going to be stupidly off like yours.
- 19:24Well, that's kind of the fun, you know, that's, that's, that's
- 19:26the fun of it. Cleveland, yes.
- 19:29Gino Suarez I think this just goes to show you our game is
- 19:36shifting back to the to the what baseball is man like.
- 19:41Please explain. Defence put the ball in play.
- 19:46Like I, I understand your immediate threat of 40 plus
- 19:51bombs, but like, let's, let's get, you know, let's focus on
- 19:57our guys that can provide more than one dimension.
- 20:02And I think that's what the market kind of told, told us
- 20:04about Gino. Then he very well could go out
- 20:09and do the same thing. Like I wouldn't be surprised if
- 20:12he throws up another 40 and hits 240-5250.
- 20:17You know, like I wouldn't be surprised if he did that.
- 20:19He's familiar there. It's probably why I think that's
- 20:22why he chose the pirates from what I read.
- 20:25Or it chose the Reds over the Pirates was just familiarity and
- 20:28and being in that stadium and, you know, being able to, you
- 20:31know, be it a prove it deal and kind of pump up some numbers a
- 20:34little bit. But I think it just goes to show
- 20:36you that like for the value, you know, of like the number that he
- 20:40got and and the contract overall just I think goes to show you
- 20:45that like there's a shift happening in baseball.
- 20:47There's there's value in a guy that you know, strikes out less,
- 20:52puts a ball in play, runs into maybe 25 or 30 instead of that
- 20:574550 threat and can also bring at least league average defense,
- 21:01which he just doesn't do so. Averaging 3.3 or a season in his
- 21:10last Four Seasons. Above average hitter even a 126
- 21:14OPS plus despite only having a 298 on base.
- 21:21Maybe I overshot it with the 240 batting average then.
- 21:25Well, I mean, it's he had 228, but he was 256 the year before
- 21:28that. And and to your .30 home runs,
- 21:31not 49. Yeah, you can.
- 21:33You can bet on 30 from him. But playing in Cincinnati, 35.
- 21:37I also don't blame. 8090 I don't blame.
- 21:40The fall off in Seattle, like it's just there's certain
- 21:43hitters that don't do well. It's it's well known that that
- 21:47is an extremely difficult ballpark to see the ball in.
- 21:51There's guys that just don't do well there.
- 21:53And, and he wanted to go back there.
- 21:55And that's the thing that I never got.
- 21:57That was his. That was his desirable place.
- 22:00Yeah, and that was his worst time offensively.
- 22:04Going back to your point about the shift in the game, it's not
- 22:08a fair comparison, but it goes back to the point I've made
- 22:11before where I said to me, and some people might disagree, to
- 22:17me, Bobby Witt Junior is like the quintessential.
- 22:21I think he's the model, yeah. Like that, that skill set, that
- 22:26that tool set, I mean that like he he he does everything.
- 22:32And that's such an attractive, you know, option to have as a
- 22:38franchise. And that's why I to your point,
- 22:42I think a guy like Unio Suarez, everybody wants to keep saying,
- 22:44well, he could put up potentially 50 for you.
- 22:46He could put up 50. It's like, but what like OK, and
- 22:52and I know some teams, Josh, like you, like we were talking
- 22:55about before we hopped on right team like the Pirates, they
- 22:58would love that and they wouldn't care if it's a if it's
- 23:00a single dimension player like Eugenio Suarez.
- 23:02And that's totally fine. Like some, some certain players
- 23:05like this fit the bill for certain teams like that.
- 23:08But if you're, if there are options on the table, Eugenio
- 23:12Suarez is not going to be the first name that you're calling
- 23:16because it's like, OK, 3540 and then what?
- 23:21Yeah, yeah. And like, not at all a fair
- 23:24comparison either. But like, you look at like what
- 23:27a Cody Bellinger's market looked like throughout, you know, free
- 23:31agency it you're talking multiple positions, you're
- 23:34talking, you know, put the ball in play, get on base.
- 23:37There's athleticism involved. I think, I think the game's just
- 23:41shifting. There's always going to be those
- 23:43those guys that have BOP and you're like, you know, we're
- 23:46always going to be attracted to the home run.
- 23:48And there's definitely places for that.
- 23:51But when you're talking about maybe, you know, not having a
- 23:532027 season and, you know, you kind of want to see what maybe
- 23:58someone in house can provide over a, you know, 15 to $20
- 24:03million paycheck. It's like, I think we know what
- 24:06Gino Suarez is. So like it's, I'm curious to see
- 24:09how the market, you know, looks moving forward for some of these
- 24:13other comparable names. Can I just sprinkle in though?
- 24:18I mean, when you talk Bobby Witt Junior, you're talking about the
- 24:20superstar on any team. Sure, which is also why I said
- 24:24not a fair comparison. Right.
- 24:26And so I think there I think there will still be a place for
- 24:30guys like this. It, it just goes back to, I
- 24:33guess the further push your, your point here, Nate, is
- 24:38baseball teams have to be a baseball team.
- 24:40You've got to have all different kinds of guys on it.
- 24:43I mean, this show talks about a couple different one-dimensional
- 24:46players. One of them hits home runs.
- 24:48The other one is touting that they lead everyone in singles.
- 24:53You know what I'm saying? So like there's, there are
- 24:56still, there is still room for players that do all sorts of
- 25:00like 1 dimensional things. But This is why his market
- 25:04instead of getting three years and 60, This is why he ended up
- 25:07with one year 15. Any man, dude, he's like it.
- 25:11Best case scenario is a Nelson Cruz, you know what I mean?
- 25:13And then worst case scenario, you're getting, you know, just
- 25:19someone kind of fading into. The back half of their career.
- 25:22Here's the comp for you. Backyard baseball.
- 25:25Eugenio Suarez's skill balls. All in hitting, all in power.
- 25:33Yeah, nothing else. Yeah, and he signed to be ADH in
- 25:36Cincinnati, so even for him, smart move.
- 25:44Speaking of the Mariners, Brendan Donovan picked up by the
- 25:51Mariners in a three team trade. Didn't this happen like right at
- 26:01the time of something else? Didn't something happen because
- 26:07I thought Passen was the one that dropped it?
- 26:09I thought there was something. Maybe I'm misremembering.
- 26:13Probably Josh, tell me about this, this three team trade.
- 26:21What do I what do I need to know about this three team trade?
- 26:25Brendan Donovan to the Mariners from Saint Louis.
- 26:30Brendan Williamson. Sinte sinte.
- 26:38Hold on, I'll get you that yeah. Ben Williamson from the Mariners
- 26:44to Tampa Bay, those were the, those were the ones that were
- 26:47the 1, essentially one move. And the Cardinals just get a ton
- 26:55of stuff going at the Mariners send.
- 26:58Yeah, I was going to look up a Saint Jesus, Sanja Sanju, maybe
- 27:07Sanju. His nickname is Lou.
- 27:11So they're sending Lou and Ty Pete and a competitive round
- 27:19pick #68 overall. And the Rays send Colton
- 27:24Ledbetter and a comp pick to the Cardinals.
- 27:26So like, there's a lot going to the Cardinals here.
- 27:30Yeah, this could be one of those deals where a couple of years
- 27:33goes by and you're like, what? You know, some some name pops
- 27:38out of it and it's like, how did this happen?
- 27:39You know, I like, I like the fit.
- 27:45I like Brendan Donovan. Is he going to play third for
- 27:47them? Is that what they're saying?
- 27:52I don't really know. Their their whole infielders are
- 27:54lefties, by the way. Yeah.
- 27:58Which is interesting, but I do like him.
- 28:03I mean, he's he's, I think he can kind of go in different
- 28:09roles. You know what I mean?
- 28:10You can throw him up at the top of the order.
- 28:11You can kind of put him down in the in the bottom of the order
- 28:14and have him flip out, flip it over.
- 28:15I mean, he's going to hit, you know, 280 and have a 12130 OPS
- 28:23plus and have a bunch of double S.
- 28:26I don't know how he grades defensively at 3rd if that is
- 28:29the case and they have some young names.
- 28:33I mean, I'm curious if maybe they play second and he play
- 28:37second and there's another move to be made.
- 28:39I don't, I don't really know. It seems like they still have
- 28:41like a ton of pitching depth that they could move off of a
- 28:45guy and go get a third baseman and keep Brendan on him in
- 28:49there. But I think there's who's that
- 28:51young cat that they have that. Cole Young.
- 28:53Yeah, that they're going to have to eventually let him kind of
- 28:57play and and see what they got there.
- 28:59But I like it. I mean, the look the the
- 29:02Mariners, you know, saw issues with their lineup and they
- 29:06solved it at the deadline last year.
- 29:08They're continuing to solve in the offseason.
- 29:10Like good for the Mariners, dude.
- 29:11They're, they're moving in a, in a, in a good direction and
- 29:15they're moving at like a, a middle market team pace.
- 29:20And it's realistic. And it's something that like, if
- 29:23your team fits that bill, you kind of hope that this is a
- 29:27similar blueprint to follow. Sorry, I was trying to figure.
- 29:34Out. I wasn't listening to the last
- 29:36four minutes of our conversation, JB.
- 29:38So I yeah, I will say. Guys, can I clock?
- 29:40No, sorry, I was clocked in on trying to figure out what I was
- 29:44thinking about when I was. Trying to pronounce Sonjo or
- 29:47whatever his. Name.
- 29:48No, no, I was really good. Remember when I was like, didn't
- 29:51something happen like right at the same time?
- 29:54The three team trade thing got me thinking It was it was back.
- 29:58It was when the Kyle Tucker news dropped because there is a three
- 30:04team trade between the this was the Gavin Lux trade and this
- 30:08happened I think like seconds before or after the Kyle Tucker
- 30:12news dropped and it it had me thinking of that not the same
- 30:17thing I do yeah. That was going to kill me if I
- 30:20could not figure it out. You're.
- 30:21Justified, you're good. Way better way.
- 30:23Better. So, yeah, Fan Graphs has Cole
- 30:26Young right now as their second baseman.
- 30:28Brendan Donovan is their third baseman.
- 30:30But what's really good about this is if Cole Young is not
- 30:33getting it done, they have one of the top prospects in their
- 30:37minors, Colt Emerson, who is a shortstop third baseman who
- 30:42could also come up. And so they've got a little bit
- 30:44of leeway here. Those are the 2022 and 2023
- 30:48first round picks for Seattle, both of them pick #22 in those
- 30:52drafts. And so they've got two guys
- 30:54right there that they're willing to get run and, and Donovan is
- 30:58flexible to play either of those.
- 31:00He hasn't played a lot of third, but it's actually as far as
- 31:03defensive run save goes, it's his best position.
- 31:05I was also thinking of Master Bony.
- 31:10That is not how you pronounce that.
- 31:12Yeah, it is. No shot.
- 31:15Yeah, it is. Master Bony.
- 31:20Yeah. Are you?
- 31:22You live under a rock. It's it's, it's like mastrobony,
- 31:28but yeah, mastrobony. My nose is stuffed, that's all.
- 31:35That's it. Baseball Reference does not have
- 31:39a a. Master.
- 31:41Yeah, no, it's not masterbony. That sounds I.
- 31:47I could go. Sounds bad even.
- 31:48I could go any sort of direction or that.
- 31:50Is what it is, Guy? I didn't name him.
- 31:53It's definitely not master Bony, I know that much.
- 31:56That's. I got allergies.
- 31:57I got allergies going right now. That's the other name I was
- 32:01thinking of, but but it's still just a bunch of lefties.
- 32:04There's a lot of lefties. Miles.
- 32:10That's it. That's all I got on that.
- 32:13I don't really know anyone else in the trade.
- 32:14So I'm sure the Rays got some freaking stud out of it, because
- 32:18they always do. I'm glad you mentioned stud
- 32:23because you know who is 1? Jacob Wilson, and he got paid,
- 32:31You know, all things considered, given the circumstances, 7
- 32:37years, $70 million extension includes a club option for an
- 32:42eighth season. I'm I tell you what, I couldn't
- 32:49be more thrilled for my Sacramento A's of Oakland,
- 32:57pending Las Vegas. I couldn't be more thrilled.
- 33:02They've got a solid core and I'm very excited about all of it.
- 33:10Yeah, I feel like I wouldn't have taken this deal if I was
- 33:13him. It's hard to say.
- 33:18Here we go. Don't say that in front of Josh.
- 33:21Josh is going to say I would have.
- 33:23I would have taken 40,000. No.
- 33:28I would be in the big leagues for 40K all day.
- 33:31If they're paying, If they're paying.
- 33:35OK, maybe I overshot, maybe I overshot, maybe I overshot.
- 33:40Now that's an interesting question.
- 33:41What's the lowest amount of money you would take to play in
- 33:43the big leagues realistically? I mean, does it automatically
- 33:46mean I'm good enough I or do I have to go?
- 33:48Well, you're in the big. Leagues.
- 33:50No, I mean, you're there like you can hang like you're,
- 33:52you're, you're still like tributing.
- 33:54League minimum Let's. See, I would take way less.
- 33:59I would play. I would probably.
- 34:00Yeah, no, I don't even need league minimum.
- 34:02I would probably pay for free knowing that like the, they do
- 34:06the partial pension thing. And if I, if I make it like five
- 34:11years or six years or whatever and I'm end up getting paid like
- 34:14150 K for the rest of my life, I'm in.
- 34:18I'll play for free during my, during my, my window.
- 34:21You know what I mean? I'm a team guy.
- 34:23I want you to spend that money elsewhere.
- 34:24I don't think I knew that was a thing.
- 34:26The partial pension is it what? Triggers it five.
- 34:29I think there's a JB could correct me on this.
- 34:31It's 10 years for Max out. I think it I think it's 250K per
- 34:36year for life plus benefits. But they are the only league
- 34:41that I think does partial pension.
- 34:44So you can do 3-4 five years of service and you'll get like a
- 34:47percentage of that overall payout.
- 34:49So you know of a guy only four or five years, he probably ends
- 34:52up still making like 80 or 90 KA year, not playing.
- 34:57The only league that does that. I don't think any other league
- 35:00does that. It might be more confusing than
- 35:03that. This says that partial pension
- 35:07is earned with a minimum of 43 days of service time, but then
- 35:10it continues to move up. Right.
- 35:13So it's more confusing than that, but yeah.
- 35:16There's some kind of equation that gets to that point, but you
- 35:19still make. Interesting.
- 35:20I I don't think I even knew that.
- 35:22Yeah. Pretty 10 years is when you vest
- 35:24that's. What I was looking.
- 35:26For 280,000 plus annually. Sick dude, what were you talking
- 35:32about? Oh.
- 35:33So yeah, the only reason I said league minimum is because I
- 35:38would assume that you have to make league minimum so.
- 35:41I would, I would you? Know sure the Dodgers will.
- 35:44Find a way around that at some point, but yeah, we're.
- 35:48Only giving him 50 bucks but we've deferred the rest of it.
- 35:52Oh, shots fired. I just feel like he probably
- 35:58could have made more. I mean I get the you know, you
- 36:01buy out pre ARB years and don't have to deal with arbitration,
- 36:06but I just feel like by the time arbitration was going to start
- 36:08coming around he'd be worth more than 10 million a year in my
- 36:11mind. So just to give you that
- 36:13breakdown, first year of arbitration, four and a half
- 36:16million, which is pretty good. That's a little bit above like a
- 36:21normal player, but he's already good.
- 36:24Second year of arbitration, 9 million that doubled.
- 36:27That doesn't happen all the time. 3rd year in arbitration,
- 36:3012 million, which is a decent third year of arbitration.
- 36:36It's two free agent years and this is where it starts to get a
- 36:39little bit interesting. 17 and 19,000,000.
- 36:42The money's going to be different then.
- 36:44That's going to look like a big bargain at that point.
- 36:47But at this point it looks like we don't really know what kind
- 36:52of player he's going to be. You give him a little bit of a
- 36:55discount in order to sign in order to get the 33 or 70
- 36:59million. But also his club option in 33
- 37:03is a $2,000,000 buyout, but it's a $26 million contract.
- 37:07So when you look at the numbers in those times, like he's he's
- 37:12paid pretty fairly. I mean, he's not going to hit
- 37:15you 30 homers, 1719 million dollars.
- 37:19Yeah, that's a pretty fair contract, plus it's guaranteed.
- 37:26And like Josh says, his his great, great, great, great,
- 37:31great grandchildren are set for life.
- 37:36Exactly. Actually, probably, but this is
- 37:39not anywhere near some of what. No, I I hear you.
- 37:43I hear you. But apparently Paige's parents,
- 37:47one of their friends, is daughters with the Wilsons.
- 37:51Oh, I love that. Not to out anybody and then just
- 37:55goes right into the story. Well, I'm not.
- 37:57I can out my in laws, but I'm not going to out like the
- 38:00neighbors of the Wilsons. Can you give us their address?
- 38:04I probably could. I've been to that house.
- 38:06Something to work? With yeah, Social Security
- 38:08number, I've seen the I've seen the Wilsons backyard before, no
- 38:12big deal. But because his dad coaches at
- 38:15GCU, not. Anymore.
- 38:17Oh, for real? Wow.
- 38:18Yeah. Does he still?
- 38:20I didn't think he did it anymore.
- 38:22I think he still does. Hold on, what?
- 38:25We just know what Jacob Wilson's dad does.
- 38:28It's Jack Wilson. Jack.
- 38:30We know Jack. He knows.
- 38:31We know Jack Wilson. Oh, true.
- 38:32Yeah, yeah, I was going to. I was like, why is yeah, I was
- 38:35like, why is Josh chiming in here being like, yeah, does he
- 38:37still so just for. Just just for, also just to
- 38:41think about this, Jacob Wilson's dad total in his career,
- 38:45according to Baseball Reference, made $41 million.
- 38:49So he just looked at his dad and said hold my beer.
- 38:52Yeah, suck it, Dad. So he's now, he's now Jacob
- 38:55Wilson's dad from from this point forward, then, I guess.
- 38:59According to the money, absolutely.
- 39:01Yeah, I think that was out. I like that.
- 39:03I like that. Don't cheat KC, we have 578
- 39:10career at bats. Tell me the result of the 1st
- 39:14570. How many strikeouts?
- 39:19I mean, it's something stupid. It's like it's like 24.
- 39:26Or at 153 games, 49 strikeouts. 49 strikeouts.
- 39:32At 20. At 39 last year.
- 39:36Yeah. 800 OPS, the Slugs at 4:44.
- 39:40I don't know how much that, you know, Sacramento Ballpark plays
- 39:43into that, but. But he'll grow into a little bit
- 39:48more of that. Double S.
- 39:52By the way, that's that's a 7.5 strikeout rate.
- 39:58Legit dude, it's all about the shift.
- 40:00It's all about the shift in baseball.
- 40:03Here for it here. For it shoot man, I had a
- 40:10perfect transition set up, but we got to talk about Luis Arise,
- 40:14which is. Fine banjos.
- 40:18Speaking of banjos. We know that term, right?
- 40:24Banjo hitter. Oh, I thought you were just
- 40:28trying to pull a fast one on us, Josh.
- 40:30I, I, I thought maybe I could get you on the banjo hitter
- 40:33term. You don't know that.
- 40:36Nate, you were with us last week.
- 40:38Two weeks like a base hitter. No, I got you.
- 40:40I got you, Luis Rios. One year?
- 40:47Do we know the money on this? 12 million. 12 with the Giants.
- 40:55I'm all done with Lisa Rice. I kind of am too.
- 40:58Yeah, if I'm bad defense, bad base runner, what do we I mean?
- 41:04The novelty of the. You're just plugging up the
- 41:06bases. Yeah, you get knocks, but it's
- 41:09like you're not, you're not able to help in any other way.
- 41:11You're just in the way. Yeah, the novelty, no
- 41:15disrespect, but the novelty of just like how many hits to
- 41:19strikeouts kind of deal like it's just I'm over it.
- 41:23It's it's it was cool at first. It's like wow man, this guy just
- 41:27freaking and. He's going to play second for
- 41:29them. He's turned, he turned down some
- 41:33other offers in order to go there because it was an
- 41:37opportunity at second base. Which second because?
- 41:411st, I'm pretty sure I saw something of like -35 defensive
- 41:48runs saved in his career at that, at that position.
- 41:51So he's what, like half? What is he like halfway to
- 41:53Jeter, 1/5 of the way to Jeter? Sorry, it's just synonymous with
- 41:59negative DRS. I'm sorry, it's.
- 42:02Way uncalled for comparing him to a first ballot Hall of Famer.
- 42:07So yeah. What's happening here?
- 42:13I told you it's going to be off the rails, so that's been off
- 42:15the rails. I should have left after I
- 42:19dropped my word of the day continuity.
- 42:22What's the word by the? Way in 2024 he had 200 hits, he
- 42:27hit over 340 and he was 28th in the league and on base
- 42:33percentage. So what happened last year you
- 42:38can hit but well, I did that because he had a better year in
- 42:4124, yeah, but yeah, last year it was 292.
- 42:48So is is on basis 3327 there? Yeah, and now you're just kind
- 42:54of chubby and slow and in the way.
- 42:56Yeah, but the but the you look at Eugenio Suarez, the
- 43:00comparisons like OK, they're both 1 dimensional players.
- 43:02I'll take. That dimension over this, yeah.
- 43:05Like no brainer and you know, is we're not saying anything ground
- 43:08breaking here, but it's just, it's worth clarifying because
- 43:12people here like, well, there's a bunch of 1 dimensional players
- 43:15around the league. It's like, well, different, you
- 43:18know, each, each dimension has different value and what the the
- 43:22dimension that Luis Haraiz brings to the table, it's not
- 43:26worth that much. I don't mind good base hitters,
- 43:31but ultimately how did you, I don't care how you got on base,
- 43:35just get on base. Yeah.
- 43:38But when I think if I can hit a hit for average guy, I like, I
- 43:41like a gap to gap guy. I like a guy that's going to get
- 43:44on second base. But if you're just slapping
- 43:46singles through the like through the opposite field like.
- 43:49Gold Glove defense if you're, if you're going to, you know what I
- 43:52mean, like. Or just league average?
- 43:54Or yeah, or good, good defense, yeah.
- 43:56Like, like Jacob Wilson isn't isn't a Gold Glover, I don't
- 43:59think. But his defense is at least
- 44:02fine. But yeah, but he what did you
- 44:04say? 30 something double S, 20 high
- 44:0720s something. For well arise has 30 double SA
- 44:10year for the last four years 31303230 so.
- 44:14I know, but compare, I'm talking about the comparison to Jacob.
- 44:17Like he's going to be doing a lot more than.
- 44:20So there's. A. 100% margin there.
- 44:23But yeah, I'm All in all, I'm over the Louis rise.
- 44:27Let me throw you this. Let me just let's see if there's
- 44:30any weight to this and I don't know that I believe this.
- 44:31I'm just asking you get you guys going on this San Francisco's a
- 44:36bigger park might fit him a little bit better.
- 44:39Last time he was hitting 350 was back in Miami with a little bit
- 44:42of more of an outfield out there.
- 44:45If he's if he's confident he can get better at 2nd a one year
- 44:50deal like this go out there and prove it.
- 44:53I don't know is there anything like kudos to him like best case
- 44:56he plays better at 2nd and gets more.
- 44:59Yeah, but what is? He's just ADH moving.
- 45:01Forward, But wouldn't this be his best case?
- 45:04Is playing in a massive ballpark where you can get away with that
- 45:08you like? I don't know.
- 45:09You could see like a three-year deal in Colorado and he could go
- 45:12out there and lead the league in hitting every year.
- 45:16If he can play second base at league average.
- 45:19If he can prove he can do that, I don't know.
- 45:24I just don't know. How old is he?
- 45:25I think he's. 20 He'll be 29 in May.
- 45:29I think I'm just more confused with what Buster is doing.
- 45:34I think there was more talent at, you know, you had Tyler
- 45:37Fitzgerald in the conversation, you had Casey Schmidt in the
- 45:40conversation. And it's like, why are we?
- 45:42Were they linked to Donovan at all?
- 45:44I. Don't know.
- 45:45I don't know. I'm just, I'm kind of confused
- 45:48as to why you wouldn't want to get like Tyler Fitzgerald.
- 45:50I thought, you know, before Willie Adamus was there was kind
- 45:54of like their main option. Sure.
- 45:55And I know these aren't Buster's guys and that's probably why
- 45:58he's moving on. But it's just like, I don't
- 46:01know, I'm all done with Luis Rice.
- 46:05Speaking of being all done, see, I, I picked it.
- 46:08I, I I I missed out on my transition prior to segue to
- 46:15Luis Rice, but I. Maestro segue or?
- 46:18I've I was granted a gift. I was given a gift of another
- 46:24segue. Speaking of being all done,
- 46:27Speaking of moving on, hit the road.
- 46:31Jordan Hicks, no disrespect, although some because you were
- 46:34kind of cheeks for us and I, I didn't appreciate your services.
- 46:37But the White Sox acquire Jordan Hicks via trade with the other
- 46:43Sox for David Sandlin. Josh, don't ask me how I feel
- 46:50about losing David Sandlin because friendly don't really
- 46:54care and I'm just being completely honest.
- 46:58The the bonus here is get a rid of Jordan Hicks.
- 47:08Was he that bad? He was terrible and it's just an
- 47:14it's an added layer to the Raphael Dever saga because he
- 47:17was part of the return and it just makes it look that much
- 47:19worse. One of.
- 47:20The 21 games pitched for the Red Sox 820 ERA.
- 47:25Whoa. Is that good, Nate?
- 47:26Is that? Good 1.98 whip.
- 47:31Whoa, yeah, not good. Good dad, good move.
- 47:34Good move getting Devers out of there.
- 47:36Well, I mean that that's what I'm saying.
- 47:38Like it's that was the that was the immediate response is like
- 47:42really the one of the is it kind of goes back to the Mookie thing
- 47:46with by the time it was all said and done, we pretty much didn't
- 47:48have anybody left of the Mookie trade.
- 47:51But with this, it's like you're going to ship them out.
- 47:54It's like, well, I'm not going to buy into the whole sunk cost
- 47:58thing. Like he's he's bad.
- 47:59So let's get him off the team. I don't care that he was part of
- 48:02the return for Rafael debris. He's not good.
- 48:05So let's cut our losses and ship them to Chicago.
- 48:10Going back to Chicago. And there's more pieces in
- 48:17Boston from that trade, right? Yeah, Kyle.
- 48:21Kyle Harrison. Kyle Harrison, is TIB still
- 48:24there? I want to say yes.
- 48:31Jose Baio, any relation? No.
- 48:35Yeah. I'm excited to see what Harrison
- 48:39can do. I liked him for a a spot
- 48:44starting fantasy here and there. Goes a long way.
- 48:49Goes a long way in my book. Yeah.
- 48:53So we'll see full. Trade included three players to
- 48:56be named later. Did you notice?
- 48:57I saw that, Yeah, yeah. Two of them going from Boston to
- 49:00Chicago, another one coming back.
- 49:03Yeah. Odds on one of those guys being
- 49:06the same guy? I've seen that happen before.
- 49:10The same guy. Player to be named later gets
- 49:13sent to one team and then they never really fulfilled it but
- 49:16they sent the guy back. I think I've seen that before.
- 49:21This is news to me. I didn't know that.
- 49:22We don't have to go down that path.
- 49:24I just cool you can go wherever you want.
- 49:26Good for the White Sox, man. Making moves, doing something?
- 49:30No. Not good for the you're just
- 49:33you're adding slop to your staff.
- 49:36Speaking of slop, no disrespect. Speaking of slop, tell you who's
- 49:40not slop, Clayton Kershaw, Joey Votto and Anthony Rizzo being
- 49:46added. I don't know.
- 49:49I mean, it's official right at this point.
- 49:51I saw it was reported but I don't know if they've signed if
- 49:53they put pen to paper yet. But set to join the NBC crew for
- 49:582026 TV coverage. That's a monster right there.
- 50:04Do you? Think I feel like of the three I
- 50:10feel like I'm a lean envato. Sound bite machine.
- 50:13Yeah, yeah. And I love.
- 50:17Rizzo. Yeah, Rizzo's great.
- 50:19I feel like. Yeah, that'll be interesting.
- 50:23Honestly, I'm surprised that he's even I know agreeing to do
- 50:26that. Little kids just go home for a
- 50:28bit man. Just just hang out for a SEC.
- 50:33That's kind of what well, he did.
- 50:35We even talk about the fact that he's joining.
- 50:38He's he's with Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.
- 50:42Did you see that? Yeah.
- 50:43What is this role? I'm confused.
- 50:45Is he going to? You think he's going to get on
- 50:47the bump? I would love to see it.
- 50:50I mean, we're going to. I need him to close it out.
- 50:52Actually, that's what I want. Yeah, that'd be sick, but I
- 50:56mean, we're going to dog walk Brazil.
- 51:02I mean and even be able to field A-Team like.
- 51:04And I mean Great Britain. Oh, sick jazz Chisholm.
- 51:09Nice, great addition. Bunch of not a role as Chapman
- 51:14though. Not a role as Chapman.
- 51:16Not eligible for Great Britain. Turns out not British.
- 51:19Turns out not British. Try another country.
- 51:22I don't know what to tell you. And then who?
- 51:26Who's the other one? Italy, I mean, can we get Kirsch
- 51:31on the bump for one of those three, please, because you're
- 51:34not putting in there against Mexico and you're not putting
- 51:37him in there when he's when they're in Miami.
- 51:40I what is happening? Is he going to get a full
- 51:44inning? I don't how is this working?
- 51:47How it is he still throwing bull pins?
- 51:52I don't. That's a great question.
- 51:54That's a great question. Yeah, yeah, you.
- 51:56Can't just roll into that cold. You can't.
- 51:58You can't just. Adam Otavino is also pitching in
- 52:03the World Baseball Classic. And not for.
- 52:06It's not for. No, no.
- 52:08No, but he's, he's retired. So he's he's got his channel and
- 52:12he's been going in there talking about how he's ramping up just
- 52:15for WBC. Did we talk?
- 52:17About that, I didn't know he was retired.
- 52:19I don't remember if we talked about that at all.
- 52:21I don't. I don't know why we would have
- 52:22but. Who's he pitching for?
- 52:26The Mets last right. Oh, the what country?
- 52:29Oh, he's pitched for him before, is it?
- 52:31I don't want to say it because then I think I'm going to be
- 52:35wrong. It's not.
- 52:39Canada is it? While you're, while you're
- 52:46looking that up, did you see all the stuff with Puerto Rico, by
- 52:48the way? Yeah.
- 52:50That was that was scary for a SEC.
- 52:52OK. Well, well, that was like that
- 52:54was with the insurance, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 52:57Well, they were about to like withdraw.
- 53:00Yeah, which brings me back to Team USA, our sweet young Prince
- 53:06still not on the roster. And that's that's concerning me
- 53:10a little bit because we are a month out.
- 53:12Got to clear medicals. Josh, just type in plenty of.
- 53:21Yeah, so there is those rosters are set to do out do come to
- 53:26come out this week. The final roster submission
- 53:30February 3rd. So they are in now the
- 53:33announcement date is tomorrow, February 5th.
- 53:36Whenever you're listening to this, it's February 5th, 7:00 PM
- 53:40MLB Network. So we'll know.
- 53:43Stupid. I'm going to.
- 53:44I'm going to lose my mind. If.
- 53:48He's on it. If he's not on the roster, we
- 53:50already missed him. We are.
- 53:51We missed out last time he committed and we missed out.
- 53:57We'll be fine. So Otto Vino pitch Italy, yes,
- 54:02Italy, who he has pitched for before as well as pitching for
- 54:08United States before. But he's been talking about his
- 54:17on his YouTube. He's been talking about his ramp
- 54:20up and his workouts and and throwing and everything, but I
- 54:23don't believe he's pitching anymore.
- 54:28Yeah, that's interesting. I want.
- 54:30Yeah, that's a good question. I wonder what Kirsch is doing.
- 54:32He's got to be. You can't, Yeah, you can't just
- 54:34roll right into that. So he's.
- 54:35Definitely pitched 3 games last year.
- 54:38For the Mets, right? For the Yankees, 1.2 innings.
- 54:41What? Mets in 2024.
- 54:46One and two. Thirds 1 and 2.
- 54:47Thirds innings with with the Yankees.
- 54:50Well he's probably he only pitched in three games and only
- 54:52got 5 outs, no runs during. That was probably my during my
- 54:57small hiatus. When you went dark.
- 55:00Yeah, four walks, 3 strikeouts. That checks out.
- 55:04No runs. Yeah, there's typically a window
- 55:10in June or July where I I stopped watching for a couple
- 55:15days. That could have been that time.
- 55:19Speaking of time, it's time. For Murray's Question of the
- 55:23Week. Murray wants to know if your kid
- 55:27or sibling was drafted to your favorite team's rival.
- 55:32But the only way for them to have a full career, I'm going to
- 55:36can I add to that, Murray? I'm going to go ahead and add to
- 55:38that. The only way for them to have a
- 55:40full, successful, healthy career is for you to switch your
- 55:45loyalty to that team. Could you?
- 55:48So again, the question is, if your kid or sibling was drafted
- 55:51to your favorite team's rival, but the only way for them to
- 55:55have a full, successful, healthy career is for you to switch your
- 55:59loyalty to that team, could you? Are we, are we saying that
- 56:07they're absolutely condemned to having a failure of a career if
- 56:12I don't? It says the only way for them to
- 56:16have a full successful healthy, so you have to assume that.
- 56:20Like a, you know, like a like. A really good short.
- 56:23Window with like just maybe 1 torn ACL mixed in like.
- 56:31Full career, right, I think, I mean according to the
- 56:33conversation we had earlier is that 10 years get vested for
- 56:36that pension. Is that what a full career is
- 56:39considered? I would.
- 56:43We set the rules here, Murray's not here, so we have to set
- 56:46those. Sibling.
- 56:49No child. I'm going to say.
- 57:01I'm more likely to do it for the child.
- 57:03I'm trying to put my, I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of
- 57:06Mr. Schlittler, who known, right?
- 57:11That's a Boston family, or at least a Massachusetts family,
- 57:14big Red Sox family. I.
- 57:16Don't know you're so obsessed with him.
- 57:17I don't know. I know.
- 57:20I'm simply just making a point, that guy.
- 57:22Lives in some strange reserved spot in.
- 57:26Your head. I don't think I've mentioned Kim
- 57:28Schlittler once since October, but but sure, let's, let's yeah,
- 57:33let's ride with that point, I guess.
- 57:35Anyway, big, big Red Sox family. So I'm trying to think of what
- 57:41it would, what it would look like to be actually that that's
- 57:46the exact scenario right there. And they said they're like, oh,
- 57:51yeah, we're big Yankee fan. No, you're not.
- 57:52You're not big Yankee fans. You just you just don't make
- 57:58that switch. I have one more question and.
- 58:01I don't know if I could to be honest with you.
- 58:02I don't know if I could. But it says it, it does say
- 58:06switch. So you have to actually say I'm
- 58:10no longer a fan of my favorite. It's not like I root for them
- 58:14and I still root for my team. You have to actually switch.
- 58:18I mean, either way, I'm going to say it, it's it, it's 100% yes.
- 58:22I think it's even easy. I think that's easy.
- 58:25You're a better man than we are, Josh.
- 58:27I, I, I just think that if you're in that situation, like
- 58:30we see it, we see it a lot. I think if you're in that
- 58:33situation. Josh, no disrespect, who are we
- 58:36switching to? Yeah.
- 58:38Well, that's a good question. You guys have a bigger, I would
- 58:41have a bigger rival than I do. Well, that's a valid.
- 58:44Point What are you? Who are you switching?
- 58:46To I would say the for me is my most hated team would probably
- 58:49be would probably be the Cubs. I could see that.
- 58:58See, that'd be a. That'd be an OK switch for me.
- 59:02Well, yeah. So, well, that's why I'm asking.
- 59:04Is this for you? Like is this contextualized
- 59:07based on the team? Man, it's a cool franchise.
- 59:10I, I, yeah, I would struggle. I really, really, really would.
- 59:16I don't think I could do it. Sorry, kid.
- 59:19Go to trade school. I asked Chad GBT for anybody
- 59:23that cares who is the Pittsburgh Pirates most hated rival and it
- 59:25says for the Pittsburgh Pirates the answer is pretty clear, the
- 59:28Chicago Cubs. Jake Arrieta, soul to soul to
- 59:33the devil to be good for a year and a half.
- 59:35Said that said, Pirates fans will also mention the Reds,
- 59:39especially due to this 1970s and the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 59:44That's weird, I would have they've.
- 59:45Always been paired with the Cardinals.
- 59:48The Cardinals are seem to be like the not right now, but seem
- 59:52to be like the class of like you have to beat the Cardinals to
- 59:55win the division. So that's normal.
- 59:58The Brewers actually for a for a large run of the 20 teens, we
- 1:00:03couldn't win against the Brewers.
- 1:00:06So there's a lot of that. Ryan Braun, Carlos Gomez, that
- 1:00:09kind of team was was hated. I would have picked them over
- 1:00:12the Cubs. Then Gomez later it was the
- 1:00:15Cubs. But like, the Reds are
- 1:00:17interesting to me 'cause I live close.
- 1:00:20ER, like, I live in between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh and my
- 1:00:24favorite player ever is Kangaroo Junior.
- 1:00:25He spent a lot of time with the Reds, so I don't have quite the
- 1:00:29hate for the Reds that a lot of my of my fellow Pirates fans do.
- 1:00:36That makes sense. Yeah, I guess.
- 1:00:37I don't know why. I mean because of the state, but
- 1:00:40I don't know why my mind immediately went to Philly, but
- 1:00:42I. Guess when the Pirates were in
- 1:00:43the East, Yeah, that absolutely was a big rival.
- 1:00:46But that's that's so dated. Let's add a little caveat to
- 1:00:49this. Let's take the Red Sox and
- 1:00:56Yankees off the table, and let's go to like a secondary rival.
- 1:00:59Like. The best for me.
- 1:01:03Oh yeah. And what would you say for the
- 1:01:06Red Sox? This makes me think of the.
- 1:01:10Rivals. No, this makes me think of like
- 1:01:14the rivals that it listed on the MVP 2005 game where it was like
- 1:01:18the obvious one and then you're and they would always list 3 for
- 1:01:21every team and it may you're sitting there going now how did
- 1:01:25they arrive at this team? Like one of the teams for the
- 1:01:28Red Sox was the Braves. And it's like, OK, are we really
- 1:01:32just Boston Braves? Yeah, we just talking like a
- 1:01:35trillion years ago. Is that how we arrived at this
- 1:01:37conclusion? But anyway, I would probably
- 1:01:41say. The JS, The OS.
- 1:01:49Yeah, I'm just thinking. I feel like it would happen.
- 1:01:51I guess the inner city thing is a difference, but other than
- 1:01:54that I feel like it would have to be division.
- 1:01:58Yeah, I don't even like the Mets as as an answer for the Yankees
- 1:02:01like. That but it is it like in the
- 1:02:02same city? So I do.
- 1:02:04Get sure. But that just seems secondary
- 1:02:06arrival. But it just seems so obviously
- 1:02:08Big Brother, little brother situation like it.
- 1:02:11It just doesn't even seem. And hey, I'm giving credit to
- 1:02:14the Yankees there. I don't, I don't know.
- 1:02:17I think the Mets are being harder.
- 1:02:18I just switched to than the Red Sox.
- 1:02:20For the Yankees, I feel like a team around the division would
- 1:02:24be a much better fit for the Yankees rivalry than the Red Sox
- 1:02:27rivalry, right? I mean, 'cause you guys, you
- 1:02:30guys don't get all that, all that along with like the Ray or
- 1:02:34who is it? Is it the?
- 1:02:35Jays. The Rays had a little bit of a
- 1:02:37window. I hate the Blue Jays.
- 1:02:40I don't know. So what's?
- 1:02:44Your answer you doing it or not. No, sorry kid, invest that
- 1:02:53signing bonus because your career is going in the toilet.
- 1:02:57Yeah, I don't. Frankly, I don't know that I
- 1:02:59could. That would just be so weird.
- 1:03:01You're. Going to have to risk it, you
- 1:03:04know? Yeah, let's just roll the dice.
- 1:03:06Hopefully it's just like a minor.
- 1:03:08Yeah, right. We're getting this removed like
- 1:03:13what do? What do you do?
- 1:03:14No, 10 years, 10 years, you you show it off again once that
- 1:03:19career is over. Long sleeves, that's all.
- 1:03:22Once that career is over, you show it off again.
- 1:03:24You go right back. I look, look, I can support the
- 1:03:29kid, the the sibling, whatever, but I don't, I don't have to
- 1:03:34like switch allegiances and I get the, the, the, the crux of
- 1:03:39the question is, it's the only way that they basically have a
- 1:03:43full career. I think it would be harder for a
- 1:03:45sibling, but I mean, you guys, you guys know that that Jake and
- 1:03:49I are pretty close. I think if he made it for any
- 1:03:51team, yeah, I'd be all in. My thing is, though, is I would
- 1:03:55just root for both teams. So that's where I would get
- 1:03:57caught up is like, no, you have to turn your back on your team
- 1:03:59like. Yeah, I.
- 1:04:01Don't know if I can do it man. That would be the harder part.
- 1:04:04Makes me feel slimy just thinking about it.
- 1:04:07Listen, if it was easy to turn my back on my team, I'd have
- 1:04:10done it. That's true.
- 1:04:12I have every reason to. Yeah, I.
- 1:04:13Was going to say Josh is just looking for the out.
- 1:04:16Let's just say no so we can pass this podcast down to the next
- 1:04:20generation, you know, I mean. There you go.
- 1:04:23Pass it on to the kids. Pass it on.
- 1:04:27Yeah. Is it time?
- 1:04:29For if they're if they're busy playing.
- 1:04:31Yeah. You guys ready?
- 1:04:33Yeah, let's do. Let's do some trivia.
- 1:04:36All right, you're only going to be required to pick two players
- 1:04:40in this trivia, and if you want to go further if you kill it, we
- 1:04:44can. But let's start with two.
- 1:04:46It's one thing we didn't talk about is Carlos Santana signed a
- 1:04:50one year deal with the Diamondbacks yesterday.
- 1:04:55He's going to be 40 this April and he's going to play first
- 1:04:59base for the Snakes. That is his ninth team in 17
- 1:05:04seasons. Name the other 40 plus year olds
- 1:05:08to play first base. No, he's 11 years with
- 1:05:12Cleveland, three different stints.
- 1:05:13He's never played with anyone long, anyone else longer than a
- 1:05:16year and a half. I thought that was interesting.
- 1:05:20Since 1995, there's 38 players who've played for 10 or more
- 1:05:26franchises. Two of them.
- 1:05:30Two of them have. Two of them have played for the
- 1:05:39most teams and Kyle has already gotten 1.
- 1:05:44Edwin Jackson, 14 teams. There's one other guy who's
- 1:05:48played for 14 franchises. Can you name him?
- 1:05:51I thought it was going to be two Kyle's on it.
- 1:05:53He just did this like within the last few years, didn't he?
- 1:05:57Yes. And I remember seeing like the
- 1:06:01graphic pop up on the screen with all the logos and all that.
- 1:06:04I cannot remember who it was though.
- 1:06:07Yeah. Do we have an era?
- 1:06:11Well, I can tell since 1995 is all.
- 1:06:14That's all the further I'm going back.
- 1:06:15Yeah, 95. Gotcha.
- 1:06:17Since 1995 and he played. Boy, and that's when the career
- 1:06:20started. So I did look at this list.
- 1:06:24There are some guys whose careers did start a little bit
- 1:06:27before 95, but they played with the same team prior to 95 that
- 1:06:32they played with in 95. So it's it's the same, it's
- 1:06:35since 1995. You're looking for the the
- 1:06:38other. Guy.
- 1:06:40Nine teams, you said at least. Kansas City Royals was the last
- 1:06:43team this guy played for. But you're But this is the guy
- 1:06:47that's tied with Edwin. Tied with Edwin Jackson, 14
- 1:06:50teams. 14 teams. 14 teams and he has spent at least a year with
- 1:06:58both of your teams as well as my team.
- 1:07:13Royals being the last team. Royals were the last team.
- 1:07:17Oh, oh, oh. The Billy Butler.
- 1:07:20Is no, it's not rich. Hill, Kyle's got this is it?
- 1:07:25You got to give me an answer. It's Rich Hill.
- 1:07:28It's Rich Hill there. There is one guy that pitched,
- 1:07:34probably can give you pitched, pitched for 13 teams.
- 1:07:37Since you're on a roll, do you want to give it a shot?
- 1:07:40This one's going to be tougher. Jamie Moyer.
- 1:07:43Oh, Jamie Moyer is well see, that's going to, that's going to
- 1:07:49hit the 95 threshold. But let me look him up and see
- 1:07:53where he's at, because that's a he started in 86.
- 1:07:57No, just eight teams. Eleven years in Seattle.
- 1:08:07So not Jamie Moyer. It is a pitcher, and I'll tell
- 1:08:10you, he's a relief pitcher. Started in 99, finished in 2013.
- 1:08:19He did pitch for the Yankees at 1.0.
- 1:08:25Yeah, he did. I remember that.
- 1:08:26Finish and when. 2013 I remember him pitching for the Pirates
- 1:08:30too. And he you said he finished with
- 1:08:33the Yankees. No, he finished with Detroit,
- 1:08:37but he pitched for the Yankees for for well, actually 14 games.
- 1:08:44Was he there like the? Benoit.
- 1:08:46No, you're like obviously in the right era, but.
- 1:08:51What are we guessing again? How many?
- 1:08:52He played for a bunch of teams. 13 teams reliever.
- 1:08:57This is third on the list. Yeah, this is third on the list.
- 1:09:03Bonus if you can get the only, the only position player to to
- 1:09:06get up there. 12 teams for this. Steven Drew.
- 1:09:11No, not on the. List seemed like he bounced
- 1:09:13around a bunch. Relief pitcher finish this.
- 1:09:22Is your Immaculate grid guys right.
- 1:09:24You need to learn. I, you guys do, man, I do.
- 1:09:27These are your guys. There's there's a, there's a old
- 1:09:30pirates player guy who came up with the Pirates, Jose Guillen.
- 1:09:33He played for 10 teams and man, I can almost know what national
- 1:09:38he's played for Nationals. Yep, Royal Tigers.
- 1:09:41I mean, there's a bunch of them. Yep, Yep.
- 1:09:44He's he's a good Immaculate grid guy.
- 1:09:48So when you're a sicko and you try to make sure that every
- 1:09:51square is filled with a former pirate, that's you got to you
- 1:09:54got to throw Jose Guillen and almost.
- 1:09:56I need to start doing the Immaculate grid man I got to up
- 1:09:58my my. Retail game.
- 1:10:00Me too. All right, he So you're
- 1:10:03basically asking us for a, a, a Tigers reliever from the 2013
- 1:10:09season who then retired. Yeah.
- 1:10:14Benoit's the only reliever I know, and that's because of the
- 1:10:17poppy Homer. Well, but you're thinking too
- 1:10:19like you're, you're thinking of like Tiger's reliever, but he
- 1:10:25finished his career there, so maybe you.
- 1:10:28Said he finished in 2013, though.
- 1:10:30He finished in 2013 with the Tigers, but I'm saying like
- 1:10:34that, that those might not have been his the team you remember
- 1:10:37him, he spent five years with, one team that you'll
- 1:10:41specifically remember him at. We should know this name.
- 1:10:44Jason Izrinhausen No, I was kidding.
- 1:10:47He he won a World Series in 2011.
- 1:10:53I don't think. I don't think that helps.
- 1:10:54Yeah, it was Cardinals, but I don't think that helps.
- 1:10:57I don't remember that. He did pitch 29 games for them,
- 1:11:03but I didn't. I don't, I don't go off of that
- 1:11:05because I don't really remember that.
- 1:11:06I will tell you that the team you probably remember him from
- 1:11:10is Houston. And then he bounced around a
- 1:11:15good bit after that. Seemed like a really good like
- 1:11:18one or two year deal guy to get in and bolster the bullpen like
- 1:11:22he was good. Career 378 ERA.
- 1:11:26Brad A. 109 saves so not a ton but he spent some time closing
- 1:11:33games out. Seems like a Brad.
- 1:11:36Not a Brad, he's from the Dominican Republic.
- 1:11:39Devon out of Brad. I don't think Brad checks out.
- 1:11:44His initials are OD Octavio. Do do whatever.
- 1:11:50Nailed it. Nailed it dude.
- 1:11:53What a pole. On the on the offensive side,
- 1:11:55since that took a little bit of time, Matt stares 12 teams.
- 1:11:59Oh, I could have gotten there. Yeah, I like Matt stares.
- 1:12:02You could have said. Extraordinaire.
- 1:12:04You could have said first baseman that appeared for both
- 1:12:07the Did he play for the Cardinals?
- 1:12:11I know he played for the Nats. Not the Cardinals.
- 1:12:14He's a Philly. He was.
- 1:12:16A Philly. And he was a Nat too, right?
- 1:12:20He was a Nat. Yep.
- 1:12:21Yeah. Blue Jay.
- 1:12:22Blue Jay. Oh, I think I'm also thinking of
- 1:12:24Matt Adams, that I think that's why I said Cardinals.
- 1:12:28All right, good stuff. Well done.
- 1:12:31He was one of the Oakland white shoe, I I think era that we were
- 1:12:36talking about. Yeah, big fan of that.
- 1:12:39I was not anticipating hearing Octavio Dotel's name on today's
- 1:12:43podcast, but well. You nailed the two.
- 1:12:46You had it right there. Well, I knew when you started
- 1:12:49chuckling, you threw Edwin Jackson out.
- 1:12:51There was over. I knew Edwin, you get I you kind
- 1:12:54of had to hold my hand a little bit for who's the other one?
- 1:12:59Rich Hill No, I don't really think so.
- 1:13:00I think you. I could have got.
- 1:13:02There you had that. You had that.
- 1:13:04He spent the most of his career in Boston.
- 1:13:07Yeah. Oh yeah, that's a Massachusetts
- 1:13:09guy right there, I believe. Right.
- 1:13:12Man, I couldn't stand him when he.
- 1:13:14Played for the Pirates. Sound kid.
- 1:13:16He would just yell at the players if they do anything
- 1:13:18wrong on the field. Right.
- 1:13:20Didn't like didn't he literally pitch for them like last year?
- 1:13:23It was like one of his last years, but he.
- 1:13:26Came up with them for an appearance of last year.
- 1:13:29Rich Hill. Yeah.
- 1:13:31No, he pitched like he got some, Yeah.
- 1:13:33He pitched for the Royals last year.
- 1:13:35Or the Royals. That's what it was, yeah.
- 1:13:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a couple years ago, but.
- 1:13:39It must have been two years ago because they literally brought
- 1:13:41him up for I think like an outing and then let him.
- 1:13:44Go No 22 starts. No, then that's not what I'm
- 1:13:48thinking of. Can you check?
- 1:13:50Can you check? Because he literally came up for
- 1:13:53like I'm telling you it was like 1 game.
- 1:13:54Oh, you mean Boston? Yeah.
- 1:13:56Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry.
- 1:13:56I thought you meant yes. Yeah.
- 1:13:58Four games. Four games.
- 1:14:00And then two with the Royals. So, yeah, so it was last year.
- 1:14:04Crazy. Yeah, I'm sorry, I no 2024 was
- 1:14:07the Boston one. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 1:14:11All right, Well, that's trivia with Josh.
- 1:14:15Clap it up. Great job.
