- 0:07Speaker 1: This mediated podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Orthon. Today we're joined by special guest and photojournalists
- 0:19Speaker 1: Seth Cantoner. In addition to Seth, we also have Steve
- 0:22Speaker 1: Joannice cal Brodie Krin, and the newlywed Seth Morris. Now,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Seth Cantoner, how you feel about trivia? Ken't standard? I
- 0:30Speaker 1: never know what you people are talking about? Really? What
- 0:33Speaker 1: about like generic trivia? That would being like Jeopardy? You
- 0:36Speaker 1: dig that not at all? Okay, I bet you'll do
- 0:43Speaker 1: better than what you think any other question? Are you
- 0:46Speaker 1: sure you want to stick around? Pretty much? Okay? Now,
- 0:50Speaker 1: if you're not familiar, this is a ten round quiz
- 0:52Speaker 1: show with questions born out of meat Eaters for verticals
- 0:55Speaker 1: which you're hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. And there is
- 0:58Speaker 1: a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred dollars to
- 1:00Speaker 1: the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Now, last time
- 1:04Speaker 1: I told you we're going to reveal a new trivia
- 1:07Speaker 1: stat each time we play. Today, we're going to look
- 1:10Speaker 1: at each person's average score per game. Now, before I
- 1:14Speaker 1: reveal this data. Who do you guys think averages the
- 1:17Speaker 1: most right answers per round of trivia? Be honest, Brody?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Any other guesses? Well, I thought you kind of when
- 1:28Speaker 1: you're like percentage of right questions? Last time we like now,
- 1:32Speaker 1: last time we talked about the winning percentage. So who
- 1:36Speaker 1: wins games? All? Right? Here we go. In first place
- 1:39Speaker 1: is Brodie. Brody averages six point six three correct answers
- 1:44Speaker 1: per game, which gives him a fairly demanding lead compared
- 1:47Speaker 1: to everyone else. That's followed by Steve at five point
- 1:51Speaker 1: eight eight, Janice at five point eight zero, Hayden at
- 1:55Speaker 1: five point seven five, Sean at five point to Hunter
- 1:59Speaker 1: at five point zero, Cal at four point eight six,
- 2:02Speaker 1: Chester at four point seven nine, Seth Morris at four
- 2:06Speaker 1: point to five. Trivia guests average three point five three,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and care In at three point to three. So the
- 2:13Speaker 1: top three, The top three are Brodie, Steve, and Janice. Yeah,
- 2:20Speaker 1: but doesn't count in the win loss column. Man, you're
- 2:23Speaker 1: because you can consistently start score good, but just never
- 2:26Speaker 1: be a winner. Is a regular season team. When you
- 2:29Speaker 1: talk professional sports, you have regular season teams and playoff teams.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You're always out there, but there's always one person with
- 2:36Speaker 1: more wins than me. That's right now, we are going
- 2:39Speaker 1: to introduce a new trivia rinkles well, this guy named Steve.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Also this week, we're going to introduce a new trivia
- 2:48Speaker 1: wrinkle for listeners that starts right now. Here's what it is.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Each episode, I'm going to declare one listener question of
- 2:55Speaker 1: the week which will win them a prize. This is
- 2:58Speaker 1: to reward those folks who send great trivia questions and
- 3:01Speaker 1: help keep this show going. If you want a chance
- 3:03Speaker 1: to win our listener question of the week, send your
- 3:06Speaker 1: question to Trivia at the Meat Eater dot com. This
- 3:09Speaker 1: we'll get to it. When we get to that question,
- 3:11Speaker 1: we'll have a different prize each week, or like something good.
- 3:15Speaker 1: The winner this week is very much going to like
- 3:17Speaker 1: their prize. Is there anything today about questions? He screwed
- 3:21Speaker 1: up last time? I chunk of this whale bolber and
- 3:24Speaker 1: the chunk of this dried caraban. You think we get
- 3:26Speaker 1: that in the mail, because I when it gets there,
- 3:28Speaker 1: it'll be fermented right now. It's fresh now. On a
- 3:31Speaker 1: previous episode, we talked about the world record flathead cat
- 3:35Speaker 1: fish that was caught in Kansas, the one d and
- 3:37Speaker 1: twenty three pound cat was caught in by Ken Pauli
- 3:41Speaker 1: in Elk City Reservoir. Ken told Field and Stream that
- 3:44Speaker 1: he caught the flathead while croppy fishing with a barber
- 3:47Speaker 1: and minnow, and that he was able to land the
- 3:49Speaker 1: beheamth after it helplessly got caught in big waves that
- 3:52Speaker 1: were rolling into shore. But shortly after that episode aired,
- 3:55Speaker 1: someone wrote in to tell me that that's not actually
- 3:58Speaker 1: what happened at all, and what you're about here is
- 4:00Speaker 1: this person's account of how that catfish was caught, which,
- 4:03Speaker 1: if true, is a massive development because it would likely
- 4:06Speaker 1: disqualify this fish from counting in any record book. Now
- 4:10Speaker 1: remind you again, this fish is currently recognized by the
- 4:13Speaker 1: i g f A as the world record and by
- 4:16Speaker 1: the State of Kansas as the state record. Play the clip, Phil, Hi,
- 4:21Speaker 1: my name is Clayton Crellin, and my dad used to
- 4:24Speaker 1: work with Ken Pauli, the guy who caught the state
- 4:26Speaker 1: record flathead, and my dad got the real story about
- 4:30Speaker 1: that fish that no one else knows. Apparently, the flathead
- 4:34Speaker 1: was choking on a carp and dying on the surface
- 4:36Speaker 1: of the water when the guy snagged it with his
- 4:39Speaker 1: croppy rod, so he didn't really catch it on a
- 4:41Speaker 1: bomber in a minnow like the others reported. He also
- 4:45Speaker 1: told my dad that he wished he never caught the fish.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Here's why. After word got out about the giant flathead,
- 4:52Speaker 1: a photographer contacted him about getting some pictures of him
- 4:56Speaker 1: and the catch. Ken obliged and had a few photos taken. Eventually,
- 5:01Speaker 1: feeling stream reached out to Ken asking to use the photos,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and Ken gave them permission. But when they did, the
- 5:09Speaker 1: photographer sued Ken for thousands of dollars for not getting
- 5:12Speaker 1: his permission to use the photos. Ken lost the lawsuit
- 5:16Speaker 1: to the photographer and told my dad that in the
- 5:19Speaker 1: end he felt like he lost more than what the
- 5:21Speaker 1: fish was worth. Now, Steve, you talk about stories making
- 5:25Speaker 1: their own gravy, this one makes all kinds of gravy.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Oh M, that's a good story, or if that's true. Now,
- 5:33Speaker 1: I traded a lot of emails with Clayton, who you
- 5:34Speaker 1: just heard. I believe every word of it, pretty convinced
- 5:37Speaker 1: that what he's saying has some legitimacy. I've reached out
- 5:40Speaker 1: to I G F A to see if they've heard
- 5:42Speaker 1: this claim before, but they haven't gotten back to me,
- 5:44Speaker 1: so this won't be the last time we talked about
- 5:46Speaker 1: this story. You're gonna smoke out this guy's I have
- 5:49Speaker 1: g a record man, this guy. But this guy is
- 5:52Speaker 1: like this, he's I mean, I don't know. I mean
- 5:57Speaker 1: that's like third hand information. It is third hand from
- 6:00Speaker 1: his old man who heard from Yeah. That, and then
- 6:05Speaker 1: if he did get sued by the photographer, I'd rather
- 6:07Speaker 1: have him have a world record after losing that lawsuit.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I heard it keeps a sheep in his bed, you
- 6:13Speaker 1: know what I mean. That's bad information. So I didn't
- 6:19Speaker 1: catch it. Did you try reaching out to the actual
- 6:22Speaker 1: angler to like get his side of this? So I
- 6:24Speaker 1: tried to find Ken. I wasn't able to track him down.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm sure somebody's gonna reach and be like, Oh, he's
- 6:28Speaker 1: my neighbor, here's his phone number. Few kind of feel
- 6:32Speaker 1: bad about you playing that story and not getting his satisfy.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I did some other Facebook sleothing and found people that
- 6:38Speaker 1: are related to him saying similar things. But here's what
- 6:42Speaker 1: gives me makes me a little bit hesitant. I also
- 6:44Speaker 1: found other folks claiming that there was a snapping turtle
- 6:47Speaker 1: in the stomach of this thing that helped weigh it
- 6:50Speaker 1: down and give him the record. So so there's a
- 6:53Speaker 1: lot of things floating around out there snapping. Remember you've
- 7:01Speaker 1: been new heart. There you go the turtle. I ate
- 7:04Speaker 1: a couple of de cell batteries before I got eight.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I think we're gonna hear from a lot of folks
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the cat fishing community in Kansas after this whole
- 7:13Speaker 1: and they had like a host and investigative journalists. He's like,
- 7:18Speaker 1: he's like Mori Povich, who is the father who happened
- 7:24Speaker 1: to be a talk show host in the eighties. The
- 7:26Speaker 1: last time Steve watching talk show. And with that we
- 7:30Speaker 1: are on the meeting to trivia play the drop Phil. Look,
- 7:35Speaker 1: I need to know what I stay in to win everything.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I'm saying, just tend to win everything, suckers. Question one,
- 7:53Speaker 1: this will be multiple choice in the topic is gear.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So if I can see your board, Buddy, finish this night,
- 8:00Speaker 1: teen thirty four quote from outdoor writer Nash Buckingham, Um
- 8:05Speaker 1: back up, finish this nineteen thirty four quote from outdoor
- 8:10Speaker 1: writer Nash Buckingham. A blank in the hands of the
- 8:15Speaker 1: unskilled is one of conservation's greatest assets, is it? Bow duck?
- 8:21Speaker 1: Call fly? Rod or turkey tag Again. This is a
- 8:25Speaker 1: nineteen thirty four quote from outdoor writer Nash Buckingham. A
- 8:29Speaker 1: blank in the hands of the unskilled is one of
- 8:32Speaker 1: conservation's greatest assets. Is it bow, duck call, fly rod
- 8:38Speaker 1: or turkey tag. I'll tell you Nash Buckingham was probably
- 8:44Speaker 1: also an actor's name in the seventies. Give me the
- 8:47Speaker 1: four options one more time, bow, duck call, fly rod,
- 8:51Speaker 1: or turkey tag. Now Stevie said you knew it? Did
- 8:53Speaker 1: you actually know this one? No? I was joking. Okay,
- 8:56Speaker 1: that was before you gave you the question. A blank
- 8:59Speaker 1: in the hands of the skilled is one of constant
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm quite confident in my answer, but I wouldn't know,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Nash Buckingham. If you're sitting in here right now, does
- 9:07Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 9:10Speaker 1: We have Honest saying duck call, Steve saying duck call, Whale,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Seth saying fly rod, Brody saying bo Cal saying duck call, Wallely,
- 9:20Speaker 1: Seth saying turkey tag, and Karin saying bow. The correct
- 9:24Speaker 1: answer is duck call, of course. It is. What he's saying,
- 9:27Speaker 1: is you're you're preventing ducks from getting killed, because but
- 9:32Speaker 1: I could also see that it could be turkey tag
- 9:36Speaker 1: in the in the hands of the unskilled. Listen to me,
- 9:39Speaker 1: don't already make the category the category this year. This
- 9:44Speaker 1: is where my mind was. That was slipped in there
- 9:46Speaker 1: to trick you, trick you up. Buckingham wrote that quote
- 9:50Speaker 1: in his book De Shooting This Gentleman. He was known
- 9:54Speaker 1: for his flamboyant writing style and perspective on waterfowl conservation
- 9:58Speaker 1: that was a decades ahead of this time. If you
- 10:01Speaker 1: like to hunt ducks and geese in the Mississippi Flyway,
- 10:03Speaker 1: then his books are for you. Man. If I'm at
- 10:06Speaker 1: a dude named Buckingham right now, I would completely write
- 10:08Speaker 1: him off, you know what I mean, I'd write him
- 10:12Speaker 1: off the duke of Yeah, I'd be like, oh, brother.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Question to the topic is conservation. This next Greek question
- 10:19Speaker 1: comes to us from Mike Stephen. If you have a
- 10:21Speaker 1: question you think is right for meata to Trivia. You
- 10:23Speaker 1: can send it to Trivia at the mediator dot com.
- 10:27Speaker 1: What ecological word describes the state or condition of having
- 10:32Speaker 1: become locally or regionally extinct. What ecological word describes the
- 10:39Speaker 1: state or condition of having become locally or regionally extinct.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We had some quick answers from Brody and Steve, bro
- 10:48Speaker 1: Neck and Neck bro right here ahead right started out
- 10:53Speaker 1: ahead the spelling don't don't give you, don't give to
- 11:00Speaker 1: winning one question, don't What ecological word describes the state
- 11:07Speaker 1: or condition of having become locally People started talking about
- 11:10Speaker 1: spelling stuff and pronounced the stuff that's called tips. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but the spelling thing came from Seth, so it doesn't
- 11:17Speaker 1: really say how long the word is. You have to
- 11:22Speaker 1: spell every word, so I don't think it's a tip
- 11:26Speaker 1: going forward. You never have to spell correctly unless I
- 11:29Speaker 1: say you do. That is a tip. Does everybody have
- 11:32Speaker 1: an answer? Go and reveal your answers. We have Janice
- 11:35Speaker 1: saying extra pated, Steve saying extirpated, whale, Seth without an answer,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Brody saying extrapated, cal saying extirpation, while I say saying extirpated,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and Korean without an answer. The room got it. It
- 11:48Speaker 1: is extirpation or extirpated. But is it read it to
- 11:51Speaker 1: me again. I'm just worried about word word tense. What
- 11:54Speaker 1: ecological word describes the state or condition of having become locally.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I'll accept either. Some examples of excupation include wolves in Nebraska,
- 12:04Speaker 1: sage grouse in New Mexico, pronghorn in Minnesota, caribou and Maine,
- 12:08Speaker 1: paddle fish in Michigan, and Steve's favorite example in the world,
- 12:11Speaker 1: elk in Iowa. It also included muskox in northern and
- 12:15Speaker 1: in Alaska entire Alaska. I couldn't remember the word, but
- 12:18Speaker 1: I haven't written in the book I find myself and
- 12:21Speaker 1: I find myself in a situation. Now, muscots were reintroduced
- 12:25Speaker 1: from Greenland because of its hard picture. How how would
- 12:29Speaker 1: they reintroduce the muskox? Uh? They captured him um, I
- 12:34Speaker 1: think it was in Greenland and brought him by ferry
- 12:36Speaker 1: to the New York or somewhere over there. Karen would know.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And then they rode by train. They rode by train, Um,
- 12:45Speaker 1: I think to the West coast and we're brought to
- 12:47Speaker 1: Fairbanks and then shipped to Nunamak Island and then Northwest Alaska.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Tribute question for you. Let's hear what writer who happened
- 12:57Speaker 1: to write a book called The Snow Leopard wrote a
- 12:59Speaker 1: book about part of the reintroduction of muskox to Alaska.
- 13:03Speaker 1: No idea, Peter mathis do they get it? I love
- 13:12Speaker 1: throwing a tribute questions Spencer, but he never knows. We
- 13:15Speaker 1: are onto question three. The topic is cooking. According to
- 13:19Speaker 1: Anthony Bourdain, you should never order seafood from a restaurant
- 13:23Speaker 1: on what day of the week. According to Anthony Bourdain,
- 13:29Speaker 1: you should never order seafood from a restaurant on what
- 13:33Speaker 1: day of the week. Again, quick answers from Brody and Steve.
- 13:38Speaker 1: You've always know this, No, I've read it, but I
- 13:41Speaker 1: don't know it. Again, you should never order seafood from
- 13:45Speaker 1: a restaurant on what day of the include long John
- 13:48Speaker 1: Silver's any answer would work. You've got to be careful
- 13:53Speaker 1: with the day of the week questions because Cal is here,
- 13:55Speaker 1: so yeah, don't say like whatever your answer is Christmas.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Does everybody have any answer? Yanni? Yeah, Go ahead and
- 14:12Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Yanni saying Sunday, Steve saying Sunday,
- 14:16Speaker 1: Whale Seth saying Friday, Brodie saying Sunday, Cal saying Sunday,
- 14:21Speaker 1: while I Sets saying Thursday. Just In saying Sunday. Nobody
- 14:28Speaker 1: got it. The correct answer is Monday because there's nowhere.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Oh you know why, because they're getting rid of the
- 14:35Speaker 1: old ship to make room for the new ship. Boor
- 14:37Speaker 1: Dane gave this advice in his two thousand book Kitchen
- 14:40Speaker 1: Confidential Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. He said that most
- 14:44Speaker 1: restaurants get their seafood on Thursday or Friday in anticipation
- 14:48Speaker 1: for the weekend, so by Monday it's already four or
- 14:51Speaker 1: five days old. Yep, yep, Seth could while I Seth
- 14:57Speaker 1: could have stumbled into that one just writing down random days,
- 15:01Speaker 1: but down Tuesday evening question for the topic is haunting.
- 15:05Speaker 1: This next great question comes to us from j Mill.
- 15:07Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 15:09Speaker 1: Meat Eat to trivia, you can send it to trivia
- 15:11Speaker 1: at the meat eater dot com. Is either got to
- 15:12Speaker 1: win something not yet? I will, I will will make
- 15:16Speaker 1: a whole spectacle lot of it when we get to
- 15:17Speaker 1: our listener question of the week. Or did you know
- 15:19Speaker 1: our punt gun is sitting over in the on the floor. Yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I thought I thought we talked about this. I can't
- 15:24Speaker 1: believe we haven't opened it up yet. All right, Chris
- 15:28Speaker 1: got to do an unboxing video, right, Smokey the blue
- 15:34Speaker 1: tick coon hound is the official mascot for this state's
- 15:37Speaker 1: biggest college. The blue tick coon hound is also this
- 15:41Speaker 1: state's official dog breed. What is it? Smokey? The blue
- 15:47Speaker 1: tick coon hound is the official mascot for this state's
- 15:50Speaker 1: biggest college. The blue tick coon hound is also this
- 15:54Speaker 1: state's official dog breed. What is it? Cal? The dog man?
- 16:00Speaker 1: How you feel? I'm putting a lot of weight on
- 16:04Speaker 1: one word and your question? Read it one more time.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Smokey the blue tick coonhound is the official mascot for
- 16:12Speaker 1: the state's biggest college. Call thank you. The bluetick coonhound
- 16:16Speaker 1: is also this state's official dog breed. Total total gas
- 16:20Speaker 1: is what? I thank you? Thank you? So you don't
- 16:24Speaker 1: bitch about hints? Yeah, your advantage. Does everybody have an answer?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Very good? Tip? I don't know if it's right. What's
- 16:38Speaker 1: the word? Cal? Is it? Uh? College? I just don't.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I don't tell you. I want to make clear what
- 16:44Speaker 1: I did have before Cal tipped me off, and I
- 16:47Speaker 1: want you to know this is the smallest mm hmmm.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? No? No, that's awesome, that's awesome.
- 16:56Speaker 1: All right, that's not it, Brodie? How many words does
- 17:02Speaker 1: this state have, Oh, how often is cow does watching
- 17:05Speaker 1: Brody right ship, Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 17:09Speaker 1: have Yanni saying Georgias, Steve saying Tennessee, Whale Sets saying
- 17:13Speaker 1: no Idea, Brody saying North Carolina, Cal saying Tennessee, Walleye
- 17:18Speaker 1: Sets saying Kentucky, Karin saying West Virginia. The correct answer
- 17:24Speaker 1: is Tennessee, Cal, Smokey Mountains, Dude, gave it away, gives
- 17:30Speaker 1: me in the lead. There are ten statues of Smokey
- 17:33Speaker 1: on the University of Tennessee's peoples Listen, I'm fine for that. People.
- 17:37Speaker 1: They need to shut shut more time. No, shut your mouth.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I got that because of a because of a hot
- 17:46Speaker 1: till someone gave accidentally shut your mom about getting right.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Good on you, though, Cal for picking up on that.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Smokey X str Smokey X just turned ten years old
- 17:59Speaker 1: and it set to retire this year. Smokey x I
- 18:02Speaker 1: has already been selected. He's a one year old blue
- 18:05Speaker 1: tick from the same bloodline as his predecessor. I had
- 18:08Speaker 1: North Carolina written down I until he opened his trap again. Well,
- 18:14Speaker 1: then we should just avoid that question. No no, because
- 18:18Speaker 1: that was like I can't do it on principle because
- 18:22Speaker 1: I have the same answer that you got, because people
- 18:28Speaker 1: need to show. You'll notice, I am never like is
- 18:31Speaker 1: it with the extra like? I never do that stuff.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I just so if you're quiet, Iran Iran black bears
- 18:43Speaker 1: and in Idaho with a houndsman from Smoky Mountain National Park.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And they actually had an in holding. He and his wife.
- 18:52Speaker 1: They're born and raised less than half a mile away
- 18:55Speaker 1: from each other in the holler Smoky Mountain National Park,
- 18:58Speaker 1: Tennessee named Audi Kerr. That's good. That's a good houndsman
- 19:02Speaker 1: name it is. And he was a long, lanky mountain man. Yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: but he didn't have cur dogs. He had what kind
- 19:08Speaker 1: of dogs? I have no idea. He had a lot
- 19:10Speaker 1: of them. He didn't want that kind of confusion. He
- 19:12Speaker 1: had a staple gun. You just go go down that
- 19:15Speaker 1: line of dogs, Ia, dining and staple and everybody back together.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Run the question five. The topic is public lands. Into
- 19:24Speaker 1: the Wild is based on a nineteen year old who
- 19:26Speaker 1: leaves a privileged life to live in the Alaskan wilderness,
- 19:30Speaker 1: where he dies of starvation. What was that man's name?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Into the Wild is based on a nineteen year old
- 19:38Speaker 1: who leaves a privileged life to live in the Alaskan
- 19:41Speaker 1: wilderness where he dies of starvation. What was that man's name?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Is this the bone you're throwing to a whale? Seth
- 19:49Speaker 1: it is? I thought you're gonna ask when he's eating
- 19:52Speaker 1: that killed him? But answer everything but the son of
- 19:56Speaker 1: a Bitch's name? Man again into the wild. The book
- 20:00Speaker 1: End movie is based on a nineteen year old who
- 20:03Speaker 1: leaves a privileged life to live in the Alaskan wilderness
- 20:06Speaker 1: where he dies of starvation. What was that man's name? Oh?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Can I give the name he went by? I'm gonna
- 20:15Speaker 1: do that, and I to give what he I'm gonna
- 20:19Speaker 1: give what he wanted his name to be. That is
- 20:22Speaker 1: totally acceptable. M m. There's a lot of hints. Oh yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 1: But still everybody else does I do not have an answer,
- 20:34Speaker 1: Go and reveal your answers. We have a Yanni saying,
- 20:37Speaker 1: Chris McCandless, Steve saying, Alex Vader, Super Trump Mccandice Brody's
- 20:44Speaker 1: saying Chris mccasson, Christopher will I said saying, Sean and
- 20:53Speaker 1: Karin saying, I forget Sean Penn who directed that movie.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I think the correct answer is Chris McCandless, Alexander Supertrancer.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I just want to tell me you're not accepting Alexander
- 21:07Speaker 1: super Vote. No, Um, that was his that was his
- 21:10Speaker 1: chosen name. Are you telling people what bathroom to go into? Now?
- 21:14Speaker 1: Get the funk at. That's where he identified as. That's
- 21:18Speaker 1: what he identified classic film and if two thousand twenty
- 21:21Speaker 1: two has taught you anything, what you identify with is
- 21:25Speaker 1: where you're at. Spencer jas is the only one who
- 21:27Speaker 1: got that one correct. Right, you're accepting Christopher McCandless. We
- 21:30Speaker 1: also had Whale Sean, Okay, get it. I should get it.
- 21:36Speaker 1: If you don't half of it, if you don't accept
- 21:38Speaker 1: what there's previous examples of people getting half an answer
- 21:42Speaker 1: and getting getting If you don't accept what I wrote,
- 21:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna be so pissed. That's what he identified as
- 21:47Speaker 1: is Alexander super Tramp. I would actually lean towards giving
- 21:51Speaker 1: the act to Steve Yes, what does our guests think?
- 21:54Speaker 1: What what do you think? Would would you take that answer? No? Way?
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was impressed. Um, but no, he's not in charge
- 22:03Speaker 1: of the show. I'm gonna say no. First names. First
- 22:08Speaker 1: name don't get you anything in Jeopardy yeah, but you
- 22:11Speaker 1: have established on this show history McCormick. No, not McCormick, Mccathcca,
- 22:21Speaker 1: McCaw We're gonna go with Nollam, Brody and Cal. Okay,
- 22:23Speaker 1: can you tell last name? I got the name of
- 22:29Speaker 1: what he wanted to be called. He changed his name
- 22:33Speaker 1: to that. Len't okay, because I want you to name
- 22:36Speaker 1: for me. Phil named for me, named for me. A
- 22:38Speaker 1: famous athlete who was once on the weedies box? What
- 22:42Speaker 1: is their name? Now? Please? Please tell me tell me
- 22:47Speaker 1: the individual's name. I'm talking they illegally changed it, Michael Jordan's. Oh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: so it has to be legal. You wouldn't accept it
- 22:53Speaker 1: if it wasn't legal. Are you sure? Tell me the name? Phil?
- 22:59Speaker 1: What is the individual's name? Uh? Score up? No, Philip,
- 23:03Speaker 1: please share with me the individual's name. I think I
- 23:07Speaker 1: think the former athlete who was on a weedies box. Please, muh.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You know why you can't do it? You won't do it.
- 23:13Speaker 1: That's why I'm right now here. Because you can't say
- 23:15Speaker 1: Bruce Jenner. I think, I say why you can't say
- 23:18Speaker 1: Chris mccandles. He was Alexander super true. I think this
- 23:21Speaker 1: carries a lot of what I'm about to read from
- 23:24Speaker 1: his bio, it says Christopher Johnson McCandless, also known by
- 23:29Speaker 1: his pseudonym Alexander SuperTruck. I think I would give it
- 23:33Speaker 1: to boy. I want I want a trivia super fan
- 23:40Speaker 1: here to just go through and come up for our host. Know,
- 23:46Speaker 1: just just a general guideline to what is a correct answer.
- 23:52Speaker 1: If he had said he had said was a famous
- 23:57Speaker 1: athlete that was on a weedies box, thought you were
- 24:00Speaker 1: going with Muhammad Ali and like his name is Cashi's
- 24:02Speaker 1: Clay right now? Yeah, if you said who's the boxer
- 24:05Speaker 1: that blankety blank blank, and I was like, Mohammed Ali, Like, uh,
- 24:09Speaker 1: it's Cash's Clay. Bullshit, dude, I think we'll give it
- 24:14Speaker 1: to you. Have that been given in a multiple choice, right?
- 24:19Speaker 1: I mean, That's all I'm saying is like, there's the
- 24:22Speaker 1: correct answer is in quotations, which is an interesting way
- 24:26Speaker 1: to play. It's one way to look at you know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: we were trying to keep this game tight and here
- 24:30Speaker 1: we are. Phil hit Us with the scoreboard update. Karen
- 24:36Speaker 1: has zero, Seth's and Brody have one, Kalan Janis have three,
- 24:39Speaker 1: and Steve, oh my god, he has four points. Is
- 24:41Speaker 1: in the league. Good job were benefited from not so
- 24:53Speaker 1: silent Silent teeth are coming out all right, brand the
- 25:06Speaker 1: question sixty topics conservation. Now, this is our listener question
- 25:10Speaker 1: of the Week, which was one by Joe Zimlich. For
- 25:13Speaker 1: sending this great question, Joe is going to get a
- 25:16Speaker 1: copy of the Meat Eater Fish in Game cookbook autographed
- 25:19Speaker 1: by Steve. If you want a chance to win the
- 25:21Speaker 1: Listener Question the Week, send your question to Trivia at
- 25:24Speaker 1: the meat Eater dot com. This bird, which can be
- 25:28Speaker 1: hunted in forty two states is involved in more aircraft
- 25:32Speaker 1: collisions than any other animal. And I'll give you a
- 25:35Speaker 1: hint it is not a Canada goose. Thanks, I can
- 25:45Speaker 1: be hunted in forty two states. This bird, which can
- 25:48Speaker 1: be hunted in forty two states is involved in more
- 25:51Speaker 1: aircraft collisions than any other animal. And I'll give you
- 25:55Speaker 1: a hint, it is not a Canada goose. Notice how
- 25:59Speaker 1: I'm writing very reluctantly and slowly, but I was writing
- 26:05Speaker 1: cockily a minute ago. Before I even finished questions, Steve
- 26:09Speaker 1: was writing down Canada goose, which we stop. Isn't that
- 26:13Speaker 1: the that's the bird that uh you know, the miracle
- 26:15Speaker 1: on the hust Sully. Yeah, again, this is our listener
- 26:19Speaker 1: question in the week. That's how much I like this
- 26:21Speaker 1: damn question. Yeah, that's a good one. I gotta say
- 26:25Speaker 1: that God got was going Canada goose. Well I was
- 26:29Speaker 1: doing I was doing that only because it's solely my wheel.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think that's what he said. No, my aircraft he took,
- 26:36Speaker 1: he took the control, he sees the controls from the
- 26:38Speaker 1: co pilot saying my aircraft. Does everybody have an answer?
- 26:45Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying
- 26:50Speaker 1: crow whale, Seth saying pintail, Brody's saying snow goose, cal
- 26:55Speaker 1: saying dove, while I said saying snow goose, and Krian
- 26:59Speaker 1: saying what is that? What is that? It was mad,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but I crossed that whatever snow goose, Mallard. The correct answer,
- 27:07Speaker 1: which somebody got is mourning dove. Really canest this counts? Yes,
- 27:17Speaker 1: that count that kid count We are going to give
- 27:19Speaker 1: you dove. Hundred kinds of doves. We're going to give
- 27:23Speaker 1: you dove. And you know what I was writing, dove,
- 27:27Speaker 1: but from Brody on previous games. According to the Federal
- 27:34Speaker 1: Aviation Administration, eleven percent of birds struck by aircrafts are
- 27:39Speaker 1: mourning doves, and although of aircraft collisions are with birds,
- 27:44Speaker 1: strikes with other animals do occur. The most commonly struck
- 27:47Speaker 1: non bird species are white tailed deer and coyotes. Was
- 27:51Speaker 1: crow anywhere on that list? I just put ducks? Is
- 27:54Speaker 1: like not, you know, it doesn't know one cares why
- 27:57Speaker 1: I put it down. The f f a uh doesn't
- 27:59Speaker 1: give watch detail. They say morning dove is the most
- 28:01Speaker 1: struck bird. Um and then it's it's something weird that
- 28:04Speaker 1: although only like five percent of collisions happen with waterfowl,
- 28:07Speaker 1: they make up like fi of damage to aircraft. Have
- 28:11Speaker 1: you see that that youver see that video clip of
- 28:13Speaker 1: that picture that famous Mandy Johnson that morning of the
- 28:18Speaker 1: baseball played for the Diamondbacks, like Mariners first had hair
- 28:25Speaker 1: like Seth used to. That's right, ran A question seven.
- 28:29Speaker 1: The topic is gear name one of the top five
- 28:33Speaker 1: states with the highest rate of gun ownership. Now this
- 28:38Speaker 1: number is calculated, but how many people own guns tracked
- 28:41Speaker 1: against the total population? So name one of the top
- 28:44Speaker 1: five states with the highest rate of gun ownership. It's
- 28:51Speaker 1: some quick answers in the room. How are you feeling? Korean?
- 28:55Speaker 1: She's not given any hints we got five shoes from
- 28:58Speaker 1: does everybody have any go ahead? And we have Jhanna
- 29:04Speaker 1: saying Idaho, See saying Alaska, Whale, Seth saying Alaska, Brody's
- 29:08Speaker 1: saying Texas, Kyl saying South Dakota, Walley Seth saying Texas,
- 29:12Speaker 1: and Karin saying that was such a weird choice on
- 29:17Speaker 1: your part, and Brody, that's a weird choice. I don't know.
- 29:20Speaker 1: We'll find out, won't. We have nothing to lose. I
- 29:22Speaker 1: can't win this game those because it's got so many
- 29:25Speaker 1: like you got like Dallas, you got Houston. You know
- 29:27Speaker 1: what I mean. It's like you gotta go with places
- 29:29Speaker 1: where not a lot of people. The five states are Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Idaho,
- 29:37Speaker 1: and West Virginia. Very weird choices around there, Man be
- 29:42Speaker 1: a whale Seth. Though this data was compiled by I
- 29:47Speaker 1: didn't get no. I mean, I knew a lot of
- 29:49Speaker 1: it was on the last. I knew my yomening was
- 29:51Speaker 1: on the last. So you just put one that you
- 29:52Speaker 1: didn't know it was on. I was pretty confident listening game.
- 29:56Speaker 1: You people want tom, I'm here for that actual information. Oh,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I didn't realize that's what you're the repetitiveness of the conversation.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You came here to argue gender politics and to talk
- 30:15Speaker 1: about how things are scored every week. God, who's going
- 30:22Speaker 1: to get an answer that's not really the right. At
- 30:25Speaker 1: some point you might need to bring in you might
- 30:28Speaker 1: need to find and bring in like the most impartial
- 30:31Speaker 1: person on the planet, and it would be that everyone
- 30:33Speaker 1: agrees that that person calls it and you can't argue it.
- 30:39Speaker 1: This data was compiled by the Q Research Center. Montana
- 30:43Speaker 1: is number one with a sixty six point three percent
- 30:46Speaker 1: gun ownership rate. The bottom five in gun ownership rate
- 30:50Speaker 1: or Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, and New York.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I feel like we have Phil as the impartial party
- 31:00Speaker 1: that I had to overrule him on the Phil's got
- 31:06Speaker 1: little access to grind man. I'm censored to that. I
- 31:09Speaker 1: sit across from them, so I've seen his face. He's
- 31:13Speaker 1: got little ax and he's got little hatchets. He's got
- 31:16Speaker 1: little hatchets to grind. Over there, Steele, sell those little
- 31:20Speaker 1: video axes. We're onto question eight. We'll get a scoreboard
- 31:24Speaker 1: update from impartial fill after this. That's what they call me.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Topic is silent killer and impartial film what animal lays
- 31:35Speaker 1: the biggest egg in the world? Oh? What animal? What
- 31:42Speaker 1: animal lays the biggest egg in the world? Not many
- 31:50Speaker 1: quick answers. Well, I got a couple of questions. We
- 31:53Speaker 1: go outside because I thought you were saying earlier how
- 31:56Speaker 1: you never talked before a question? Just write your answer
- 31:59Speaker 1: down that what is an animal? I wish I could
- 32:12Speaker 1: call like a little conference, like when they have like
- 32:14Speaker 1: a thing and you know, like in baseball the manager
- 32:17Speaker 1: goes out and talks to the picture, the cult or whatever,
- 32:20Speaker 1: just a sports reference. Go ahead, Seth out of an
- 32:23Speaker 1: actual question. Oh no, I don't. I'm too nervous. Too nervous.
- 32:30Speaker 1: He's within arms reach of Steve right now, gunced out.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? I know it's gonna be
- 32:39Speaker 1: one of them. Oh I didn't know that questions what
- 32:42Speaker 1: animal is the biggest things in the world? Yanni? Good?
- 32:49Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni saying emu,
- 32:52Speaker 1: Steve saying emu. Whale Seth without an answer. Bro, he's
- 32:55Speaker 1: saying whale shar because it's over Ostrich, while I Seth
- 32:59Speaker 1: saying Ostrich and Karin saying Ostrich, Well, there's sharks that
- 33:03Speaker 1: do eggs, and then they're sharks that have live beyond
- 33:06Speaker 1: a viporous and oviviparous The correct answer is ostrich Oh
- 33:14Speaker 1: that's what I had. I raised it because I thought
- 33:15Speaker 1: you'd call it a bird. Although it's the biggest egg
- 33:20Speaker 1: in the world, it's actually the smallest egg in relation
- 33:23Speaker 1: to the size of the bird. The average ostrich age
- 33:26Speaker 1: egg is about three point five pounds, which is the
- 33:29Speaker 1: equivalent in volume to two dozen of Yanni's chicken eggs.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And I see Brod he picked up his phone. I
- 33:34Speaker 1: think he's googling whale shark egg size. That's how you're doing.
- 33:40Speaker 1: What are you doing? Oh? You know, what I saw
- 33:42Speaker 1: just can't unbelievably cute, And it's only the second time
- 33:45Speaker 1: I've ever seen it. Is ah a little humming bird
- 33:49Speaker 1: nest where we were camping, and he'd coming sitting there
- 33:52Speaker 1: and just kind of relaxing there, the acutest thing on
- 33:55Speaker 1: the planet. Whoever he she don't know how they I
- 33:58Speaker 1: don't know. I don't even looked up like you. They
- 34:00Speaker 1: share responsibil I mean this little spencer, this little nest
- 34:06Speaker 1: so small that the hummingbird's head and tailor hang out
- 34:09Speaker 1: of the nest. Did you see the eggs? No. I
- 34:13Speaker 1: try to get my kid to climb up there and
- 34:14Speaker 1: have a look, but they didn't want to disturb it.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You had to get right up in its business to
- 34:18Speaker 1: kind of look. You know, it would have been eat
- 34:20Speaker 1: if you could have seen him Lang one. Oh, I'm
- 34:30Speaker 1: looking at the scoreboard right now and I feel like
- 34:32Speaker 1: I've made a mistake. But I'm gonna read this out
- 34:34Speaker 1: loud just to hear Steve's response. In last place with
- 34:37Speaker 1: the one point is Broody Henderson and the guy with
- 34:42Speaker 1: the most average right Steve catch up a little bit,
- 34:48Speaker 1: then coming up tied for second place with two points apiece.
- 34:52Speaker 1: We have the Seth's Whale and Walleye and Karin and
- 34:56Speaker 1: then tied for first place each with five points. Are
- 34:58Speaker 1: cal Janison's going into the last two questions his little
- 35:05Speaker 1: face off and he's sitting there in a number one slot.
- 35:09Speaker 1: And we have not had overtime in a while, so
- 35:12Speaker 1: today maybe Christopher, I'm gonna call him Christopher. Got this.
- 35:17Speaker 1: This room feels like an alternative reality, like I don't
- 35:20Speaker 1: know what's happening. It might be the whale blower. Question nine,
- 35:29Speaker 1: the topic is mountain Man. This next great question comes
- 35:31Speaker 1: to was being Robert Davis. If you have a question
- 35:34Speaker 1: you think is right for Meat Eat Trivia, you can
- 35:36Speaker 1: send it to trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Does he win the stuff? No? We we had that
- 35:41Speaker 1: back in question six, where do you win? You want
- 35:44Speaker 1: to sign a book by you? What was I talking
- 35:47Speaker 1: about you? We declared it. Did You're kidding me? The
- 35:55Speaker 1: book that I need you to sign? After this? For him,
- 35:58Speaker 1: here's the question. Pemmican was a popular food for mountain
- 36:03Speaker 1: men because it's lightweight, stable, and nutritious. Named two of
- 36:07Speaker 1: the three primary ingredients used to make pemmican. Pemmican was
- 36:14Speaker 1: a popular food for mountain men because it's lightweight, stable,
- 36:18Speaker 1: and nutritious. I need you to name two of the
- 36:21Speaker 1: three primary ingredients used to make pemmican. Done Brody? Why
- 36:29Speaker 1: don't I care about Brody? I should be like, are
- 36:32Speaker 1: you done? Cow? But I do feel like this mountain
- 36:34Speaker 1: man category is like totally skewed towards your your you
- 36:38Speaker 1: know your jam being an American and all, you should
- 36:43Speaker 1: build every question as if they're going to be about
- 36:46Speaker 1: Daniel Boone. Now something he may have carried would have
- 36:51Speaker 1: been pemmican. Is everybody of an answer looking for two
- 36:56Speaker 1: of the three ingredients, Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 36:59Speaker 1: We have Yon saying berries and meat, Steve saying dry
- 37:03Speaker 1: meat and fat, Whale, Seth saying dried meat and fat.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Brod he's saying two out of the three. Everybody knows
- 37:12Speaker 1: all three kale and fat. Cal only says fat all
- 37:19Speaker 1: I said, saying salt and meat, and Karin saying meat
- 37:22Speaker 1: and berries. The room did well for the people who
- 37:25Speaker 1: wrote down two answers. This is such a he's made meat.
- 37:33Speaker 1: The three ingredients are meat, fat, and fruit or nuts.
- 37:38Speaker 1: So the room did very mean. Growing up in Montana,
- 37:40Speaker 1: we learned pemmican every single year by every single teacher.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Pemmican was invented by Native Americans, but was widely adopted
- 37:53Speaker 1: by the fur trappers and explorers across the continent. You know,
- 37:57Speaker 1: I mean, but right now he's out right now, No,
- 38:01Speaker 1: he's not. If you want this is if you want
- 38:08Speaker 1: a great recipe for this super food, check out. Brody
- 38:12Speaker 1: Henderson on the media dot Com called pemmican the original
- 38:17Speaker 1: Hunter's Trail food, and Brody was just salty that this
- 38:21Speaker 1: question was written for Steve, despite him having an article
- 38:24Speaker 1: about you, and Steve had a lot to say about
- 38:31Speaker 1: question ten, the game is still up for grabs. The
- 38:35Speaker 1: topic is fishing. Mhm. This state has world records for
- 38:40Speaker 1: kobea Rowanoke bass, northern snakehead, white bass, and blue catfish.
- 38:47Speaker 1: What is it? This state has world records for kobe
- 38:53Speaker 1: a Rowanoke bass, northern snakehead, white bass, and blue catfish.
- 38:59Speaker 1: What is it? We are down to Cal, Steve and Janice.
- 39:04Speaker 1: M hmmm. Steve may have had the quickest answer in
- 39:07Speaker 1: the room. How you feeling? Put a percent on it
- 39:12Speaker 1: for you, Cal, I'm playing with house money right now.
- 39:18Speaker 1: A thousands and Yanni. Where's your confidence at? Very low?
- 39:25Speaker 1: Very low? Very okay? I wish I had a map
- 39:28Speaker 1: of the United States again, kobe a Roanoke bass, northern snakehead,
- 39:33Speaker 1: white bass, and blue catfish. Now my confidence is get
- 39:39Speaker 1: shaken reaction. Then I switched it. Did you say you
- 39:43Speaker 1: just said records right? World records, World records, world records.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Those are the real big ones. Yes, all that had
- 39:52Speaker 1: cat fish in Kansas world record or are you so
- 39:58Speaker 1: um competing? Brodie? Oh? I want to get the answer right.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer. No, man, I might change
- 40:06Speaker 1: my answer. It's painful. Well, yeah, I guess I'm just
- 40:10Speaker 1: focused on the overlap of species, not the world records,
- 40:14Speaker 1: which I know absolutely nothing about. That's more of a
- 40:18Speaker 1: Seth thing. We have a shaky standing, a shaken three
- 40:22Speaker 1: leaders in the room. Here, does your homunculus have anything
- 40:28Speaker 1: to say? Aulus has a lot? Say? Can you here's
- 40:31Speaker 1: the fish one more time? We have kobea Roanoke bass,
- 40:35Speaker 1: northern snakehead, white bass, and blue catfish. Everybody ready, go
- 40:41Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Jana saying Maryland,
- 40:44Speaker 1: Steve saying North Carolina, Whale, Seth saying Minnesota, Brody saying Virginia,
- 40:49Speaker 1: cal saying Virginia, while I Seth saying North Carolina, and
- 40:52Speaker 1: Karin saying Maryland. We do have a correct answer in
- 40:56Speaker 1: the room. It is Virginia, which makes this go to
- 41:01Speaker 1: a three way tie breaker? Is that right? What do
- 41:04Speaker 1: you know what? Roanoke is in Virginia? And I thought
- 41:06Speaker 1: those two obvious, Well, row He's in Virginia, and I
- 41:11Speaker 1: think Rowanoke colony where the famous thing happened, I think
- 41:14Speaker 1: is in North Carolina. So two states shouldn't narrated the
- 41:19Speaker 1: North Carolina is like so well known for KOBEA. What
- 41:23Speaker 1: do you put Virginia down because of the Rowano deal.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I was laying in Virginia and rollanoke, Virginia is just
- 41:31Speaker 1: a state or a world record fishy place. Just this
- 41:34Speaker 1: morning I wrote this question last night. Just this morning,
- 41:37Speaker 1: the new world record fall fish was caught, which also
- 41:39Speaker 1: came from Virginia. This is almost this was my question
- 41:44Speaker 1: in regards to so you can go in fish, you know,
- 41:51Speaker 1: six miles north of Virginia in Maryland waters and be
- 41:57Speaker 1: a hundred miles off shore, and if you return to
- 42:00Speaker 1: your Virginia harbor, it is a Virginia world record. Yeah,
