- 0:03Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls at your favorite time
- 0:06Speaker 1: of week. This is Crazy Sheet Podcast. I'm in the
- 0:09Speaker 1: off season, mixing it up a little bit. Was I'm
- 0:11Speaker 1: coming to the show, I'm market I'm here in the
- 0:13Speaker 1: podcasting studio, and Scottie is at his home away from home,
- 0:17Speaker 1: which is some hotel, probably in Ohio.
- 0:20Speaker 2: If I had to guess, I am in Ohio. I
- 0:22Speaker 2: am in police snowy Cleveland, Ohio.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Cleveland. It's a bad rap. It's a much better city
- 0:30Speaker 1: than it was twenty years ago. I get Cleveland.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree. I would. I would agree with
- 0:35Speaker 2: that for sure.
- 0:37Speaker 3: It is there.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Football season's over. The Super Bowl a couple of days ago.
- 0:43Speaker 1: How was the Super Bowl for you? You know what?
- 0:46Speaker 3: It was good?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Man? I did Uh. I just did some prop bets
- 0:50Speaker 2: and did pretty well. I not an NFL gambler, but
- 0:53Speaker 2: UH hit a couple of those. I mean the odds
- 0:56Speaker 2: were really good. So I hit Jalen also had Uh.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I was scared to death when Dotson scored. I was like, yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 2: you know, and uh, And I got lucky because I
- 1:07Speaker 2: had I had Saquan in and him scoring the first
- 1:12Speaker 2: touchdown because for what, man, they tush push or whatever
- 1:15Speaker 2: the hell they call it for.
- 1:18Speaker 3: I mean, they do it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It feels like they score from the one yard line
- 1:21Speaker 2: four times as much as any team in the NFL.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So I'm like, you gotta take hurts if you're gonna
- 1:27Speaker 2: take a prop bet. And then I took a non
- 1:29Speaker 2: defensive score, which was a winner. And then I ended
- 1:32Speaker 2: up winning a couple of quarters of my neighborhood, UH
- 1:36Speaker 2: little pool, you know, for the for the scorers. So
- 1:39Speaker 2: it's fine. I had had a nice little super Bowl
- 1:41Speaker 2: day to wait, A good way to end the season,
- 1:43Speaker 2: how about you.
- 1:44Speaker 1: It was good. I had a long I had a
- 1:47Speaker 1: future's bet on the Eagles to uh to win it,
- 1:51Speaker 1: so I let that ride. I thought it would be
- 1:52Speaker 1: a better team. And then I had my homes to
- 1:55Speaker 1: throw over half at interception and so that worked out
- 1:59Speaker 1: for It was good to see the exciting whites, the
- 2:02Speaker 1: white defensive backs for the Eagles to get in and
- 2:06Speaker 1: get a chance. Once we got rid of Dei. The
- 2:08Speaker 1: Eagles rolled out two white defensive backs and won the
- 2:10Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Man, So the world is a weird spot
- 2:13Speaker 1: right now that we live in.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We're just having to adjust to it and keep killing man.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Did you see all the videos of Cooper Degen playing
- 2:23Speaker 2: basketball that we're running around? Dude, he was hooping, dunking
- 2:27Speaker 2: on people and just I mean that old lathlete. And
- 2:30Speaker 2: then I saw in the little tagline he had five
- 2:33Speaker 2: hundred in baseball. I was like, I was, like a
- 2:37Speaker 2: bell care he's playing with a thousand kids. I mean,
- 2:40Speaker 2: his town's got like a thousand people in it, you know.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I mean, it's cool signing. I don't care. That's a
- 2:46Speaker 2: that's a beast. I don't care if you're hitting off
- 2:48Speaker 2: a te five hundred's pretty good when you start getting
- 2:51Speaker 2: too high school.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Oh man. So Scott, let's talk about couple of things,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and the off season, we're gonna try to put some
- 2:56Speaker 1: things together as lines start coming out and form some things.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Couple of weeks, we're gonna start looking at some teams,
- 3:02Speaker 1: some coaches, whether on the hot seat or not. What
- 3:04Speaker 1: we think we got coming to twenty twenty five. Just
- 3:07Speaker 1: so we're clear as we record this, it's February twelfth,
- 3:09Speaker 1: in the afternoon. Super Bowls behind us. The transfer portal
- 3:13Speaker 1: is currently closed for all schools. Coaching carousel seems to
- 3:17Speaker 1: be pretty well in place, so Ryan Grubb is leaving
- 3:21Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks and he is rejoining Kaitlin de Bores, the
- 3:25Speaker 1: offensive coordinator down in Alabama. Our high school national signing day.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Man to compare how big of an event that that
- 3:33Speaker 1: used to be, just not that long ago. That was
- 3:36Speaker 1: an afterthought. Had someone not mentioned it to me that
- 3:39Speaker 1: their kids signed, I might not have known it went on.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I was you're gonna laugh when I say this. I
- 3:47Speaker 2: had a neighbor post his son signing and I'm like, oh,
- 3:52Speaker 2: today is signing Day. I mean you just I mean,
- 3:56Speaker 2: it's up. It's really not anymore because you know, the
- 4:00Speaker 2: you know, because of the transport, citole and the winter
- 4:04Speaker 2: signing Day are all so much bigger because so many
- 4:08Speaker 2: of these kids are already on campus. I mean, State's
- 4:11Speaker 2: got like fifty first time people already on campus and
- 4:15Speaker 2: one of them's not the kid who's graduating from Stanford
- 4:19Speaker 2: because he's got to finish this last semester. Which how
- 4:21Speaker 2: big of difference do you think his class load is
- 4:23Speaker 2: going to be rolling from Stanford to Mississippi State for
- 4:26Speaker 2: his masters?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Well, I mean it be a little different. I don't
- 4:30Speaker 1: know what he's studying. Well, it's kind of like Diego
- 4:34Speaker 1: Pavia going from New Mexico to New Mexico State to
- 4:38Speaker 1: to Bandy. I mean, what do you think the courseload
- 4:41Speaker 1: looks like at Bandy to compare to what he was
- 4:43Speaker 1: taking at NEBBI in New Mexico State. I mean, it's
- 4:46Speaker 1: who knows.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I hope he was getting him.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I hope they've got a kinesiology major or something
- 4:51Speaker 2: like that, because Goodness knows they're gonna Goodness knows they're
- 4:57Speaker 2: gonna need it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So a couple of things I want to talk about
- 4:59Speaker 1: to We're gonna try to keep this to about thirty
- 5:01Speaker 1: minutes less. Get out of here. Just keep you all interested.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We'd love some feedback. Go ahead and hit that like button.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Scott and I are trying to make some changes. Subscribe
- 5:10Speaker 1: like unlike, give us some reviews. We love all that, Scott.
- 5:13Speaker 1: The first thing I want to talk about is the
- 5:15Speaker 1: change in football. You and I've talked about this off
- 5:17Speaker 1: the air for a while, and I am super interested
- 5:20Speaker 1: because not only now have we seen how the game
- 5:23Speaker 1: is changing. By that, what I mean is is we've
- 5:25Speaker 1: got nil kids are getting paid TV contracts, You've got
- 5:28Speaker 1: all these different things. But the position that I thought
- 5:32Speaker 1: we would hear about and I jokingly thought this would happen.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Is now a real deal with Bill Belichick coming in.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Now more programs are starting to use the title. Before
- 5:42Speaker 1: they had that confusing assistant athletic director of personnel. No
- 5:47Speaker 1: one really knew what that meant. They didn't know if
- 5:49Speaker 1: you worked for the football coach, if you work at
- 5:50Speaker 1: the athletic director. But now we have teams that are
- 5:54Speaker 1: putting their football coaching programs together and they have a
- 5:57Speaker 1: general manager as part of that. Michael Lombardi is the
- 6:00Speaker 1: general manager for the North Carolina The general manager at
- 6:04Speaker 1: Texas Tech just turned down that same position at Notre
- 6:09Speaker 1: Dame to stay at Texas Tech, which I thought was
- 6:11Speaker 1: very interesting. And so we've got the general manager position.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And the reason I want to throw this out to
- 6:16Speaker 1: you because we have not talked about this. You were
- 6:18Speaker 1: fairly intricately involved in the Mississippi State Collective and you
- 6:23Speaker 1: may or may not can disclose them things. But how
- 6:25Speaker 1: has that been shaped as far as who's running it,
- 6:29Speaker 1: what y'all are seeing from other schools, How are people
- 6:31Speaker 1: learning how to deal with this? Is they're trying to
- 6:34Speaker 1: build a roster with they're starting to have that layer
- 6:37Speaker 1: of between the coach and the money, just like they
- 6:41Speaker 1: do in the NFL, so the coach can manage the
- 6:43Speaker 1: team and the relationship and not get involved in that.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So have you seen it firsthand? What kind of feedback
- 6:48Speaker 1: or y'all get, because I'm fascinating by it.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, the involved would be not what I was doing.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Donating would be it, but no, just knowing the people
- 6:56Speaker 2: that were doing it and having very good relationships with
- 6:59Speaker 2: some of the people that were involved, so I do
- 7:02Speaker 2: have a fairly good understanding of it. The answer to
- 7:04Speaker 2: that is yes. The coaching staffs, along with the people
- 7:07Speaker 2: doing it, are certainly more involved in salary cap type
- 7:14Speaker 2: situations for positions and things like that. So it has
- 7:18Speaker 2: come a long way. There is no doubt they cut
- 7:22Speaker 2: guys loose every year because they don't think the kids
- 7:24Speaker 2: worth what they're taking. Michael Van Buren asked for I
- 7:30Speaker 2: don't know that this is intricate information. As for a
- 7:33Speaker 2: million and a half dollars that's basically sec starter money
- 7:37Speaker 2: and the high end of starter money, that kid's not
- 7:41Speaker 2: worth that. I mean, hell, if he could state beats
- 7:44Speaker 2: old miss, if he could remotely throw the football, I
- 7:47Speaker 2: mean that's the truth. Levy I thought had a fabulous
- 7:50Speaker 2: game plan. I thought the defensive coordinator did an incredible
- 7:53Speaker 2: job with the lack of talent that guy was dealing with.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I thought he'd had a great game plan against a
- 7:59Speaker 2: loaded old Miss offense, and on the road, I thought
- 8:03Speaker 2: he did as good of a job as he could do,
- 8:04Speaker 2: giving State an opportunity to win. Van Buren's a long
- 8:07Speaker 2: way away. He just got forced into playing. And that
- 8:11Speaker 2: is that. That tells you where these kids are at.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And sometimes you're gonna let a kid go that you
- 8:18Speaker 2: know just may be talented, but look that kid adds
- 8:22Speaker 2: some off the field issues too, and you know, so
- 8:25Speaker 2: he's got a little more on factor to him too.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And you won't pay morens a million and a half dollars.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I mean, that's how you eat your collective up and
- 8:32Speaker 2: how you lose. So I think there's you know, State
- 8:35Speaker 2: had some guys that looked very talented. I think Jeff
- 8:40Speaker 2: Levy's first time head coach, I think he would probably
- 8:43Speaker 2: tell you that he learned a ton of lessons. I
- 8:46Speaker 2: think he also got a very eye opening look at
- 8:49Speaker 2: how far away the program was the day he took over.
- 8:53Speaker 2: So now They very much are learning the depth and
- 8:57Speaker 2: the rules and how much money it takes to really
- 8:59Speaker 2: fill out a roster in a place like Mississippi State
- 9:02Speaker 2: that doesn't have twenty five And look, states not short
- 9:06Speaker 2: on funds. They've got a pretty good number. And obviously
- 9:09Speaker 2: the university is starting to kick in more money and
- 9:11Speaker 2: things like that with the way the revenue sharing and
- 9:13Speaker 2: all that's starting to go. But at the end of
- 9:16Speaker 2: the day, they're not nearly as short of money as people,
- 9:19Speaker 2: I guess thought. They didn't have what Ole miss had,
- 9:22Speaker 2: certainly not what Ohio State's been spending, but they weren't old.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I mean, you see you're seeing mac Brown four and
- 9:28Speaker 2: a half million dollars, Arizona State four and a half
- 9:31Speaker 2: five million dollars.
- 9:32Speaker 3: They would spend a hell of a lot more than that.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I mean, they spent two and a half times a
- 9:36Speaker 2: so I mean that's a you know, they were well
- 9:38Speaker 2: into double figures in the millions.
- 9:40Speaker 3: So I mean they're not broke either.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And so I think it is very much understanding that
- 9:46Speaker 2: for state to win, because they're not going to get
- 9:50Speaker 2: the marquee guy in the portal if there's a even
- 9:53Speaker 2: if they've got a relationship with them. Let's take let's
- 9:57Speaker 2: take quarterbacks. Let's look at cord To And I have
- 9:59Speaker 2: no idea if Jeff Love wanted So I don't have
- 10:02Speaker 2: zero idea. I mean, I think, I think we talked
- 10:04Speaker 2: to him, but I have zero idea how far that went.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So I don't even know if State wanted Jack Jackson Nordle.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But having said that, that number got big fast because
- 10:17Speaker 2: Auburn needed a quarterback and needed an instant quarterback, and
- 10:20Speaker 2: they learned their less than the year before to not
- 10:23Speaker 2: that that team now really is a quarterback away from
- 10:26Speaker 2: being a competitive football team, and they were going to
- 10:30Speaker 2: get a quarterback. They weren't going to spend that type
- 10:33Speaker 2: of money to get a kid, which is going to
- 10:34Speaker 2: be the two and a half million dollar number. It
- 10:36Speaker 2: doesn't matter how good he is, So they're not going
- 10:38Speaker 2: to get that kid. There's always gonna be a school
- 10:40Speaker 2: with more money and higher end finances that that is
- 10:45Speaker 2: going to get a kid. And candidly, while State's rebuilding,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you have these schools because everybody's old Bill Belichick. He's
- 10:51Speaker 2: gonna do this, Oh he's talent evaluation. How much money's
- 10:55Speaker 2: he got? Because everybody's always got this X number. Well,
- 10:58Speaker 2: based on what he did in the portal is that
- 11:00Speaker 2: I ain't got that much money, you know. So the
- 11:04Speaker 2: second flip side of that is when you're rebuilding, kids
- 11:08Speaker 2: don't want to come. I mean you're having to take
- 11:10Speaker 2: secondary players. The stud guy doesn't want to go rebuild.
- 11:15Speaker 2: He wants to win, and they will. Candidly, let's compare
- 11:19Speaker 2: State and Old Miss. A kid will go to Old
- 11:22Speaker 2: Miss for less money than he will come to Mississippi
- 11:25Speaker 2: State because he thinks he's gonna win ten games or
- 11:27Speaker 2: nine games. That's the truth. That's not a shot at State.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That's not a compliment to Old Miss. That's reality, and
- 11:35Speaker 2: it's because they're winning the exact same thing would have
- 11:37Speaker 2: been going on. If it's today's environment with Dan Mullen
- 11:41Speaker 2: and the debacle that was going on after Hugh freezing
- 11:44Speaker 2: around Huphreeze, there have been people coming to State for
- 11:47Speaker 2: less money than they would have gone to Old Miss
- 11:49Speaker 2: pool because Mullin was winning nine to gen games every year.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So there's a big difference in winning and losing, and
- 11:56Speaker 2: I think that is what people don't relate to the portal.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I am fascinated, like you to see how this bill
- 12:02Speaker 2: Belichick deal is going to work out. It better be better
- 12:05Speaker 2: than signing six guys and having the twenty ninth class
- 12:08Speaker 2: in recruiting. It better be better than the mid twenties
- 12:12Speaker 2: in portal because look, if he don't at all these
- 12:15Speaker 2: guys from Washington that his Sun brought, that Portal class
- 12:18Speaker 2: is awful. So, I mean, I understand he's a good
- 12:22Speaker 2: talent value waiter, but that team wasn't loaded with ability.
- 12:25Speaker 1: No, No, they had a lot of.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Way to go too.
- 12:28Speaker 2: So it doesn't matter how good of a coach you
- 12:30Speaker 2: are if you don't have the Jimmies and the jos.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And in the NFL, talent's pretty close. Coaching can make
- 12:36Speaker 2: a gigantic difference. Man, In the college football talent is
- 12:41Speaker 2: not the same. It is not the same. Now you
- 12:44Speaker 2: can reach up and guys can grab you because the
- 12:46Speaker 2: team's on as deep as we've talked about numerous times,
- 12:50Speaker 2: But there's a difference in that and going and being
- 12:52Speaker 2: able to win nine ten games and really competing for
- 12:56Speaker 2: a national championship.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm fascinated to see how it works. And all
- 13:00Speaker 1: these programs have different ideas. But the one thing the
- 13:03Speaker 1: Portal two that I've realized over the last couple of years,
- 13:06Speaker 1: is that there's a lot more kids in the portal.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Not because they wanted to leave, because I think they
- 13:11Speaker 1: were told either a were not re upping your deal,
- 13:14Speaker 1: or you're not getting your deal, or they may just
- 13:16Speaker 1: be told can it may be time for you to
- 13:19Speaker 1: go somewhere else. It's like Scott, that was fun, but bro,
- 13:23Speaker 1: let you just move along. You know, there's a lot.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I think there's a lot more guys doing that because
- 13:28Speaker 2: here's the thing. When you have the roster before, you
- 13:32Speaker 2: were just trying to hang on to your eighty five
- 13:35Speaker 2: and keep the talent that you had, and when a
- 13:37Speaker 2: guy got a DUI or a guy got a public drunk,
- 13:41Speaker 2: or a guy you tried to brush that under the rug,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and even if it did get brought out, you suspended him.
- 13:47Speaker 2: You didn't do I failed a drug test, I sits
- 13:50Speaker 2: out the first half for the first game, or you
- 13:52Speaker 2: know against you know the Directional School, that's one double
- 13:56Speaker 2: A no big deal. You know. Now you get these
- 14:01Speaker 2: kids repeatedly getting in trouble and they're like highway time,
- 14:04Speaker 2: I'll see you. We don't want to deal with it.
- 14:06Speaker 2: You go, you go be somebody else's circus. I think
- 14:09Speaker 2: there's a lot more of that going on than we realize.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Well, what's the receiver's name that's been at almost school
- 14:14Speaker 1: in the SEC now that can't seem to catch on anywhere?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Uh rob Ight?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Well uh uh not rob roth Thomas because he's the
- 14:22Speaker 2: one that went to Georgia. But yes, I know who,
- 14:24Speaker 2: I know who you're talking about, the A and M.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Then he's an old miss. And then you've got the
- 14:28Speaker 1: kid that's at Texas Tech, Michaeh. Hudson, who was it
- 14:32Speaker 1: supposedly came to Tech and said, you know, he was
- 14:34Speaker 1: a big time five star and he said he wanted
- 14:36Speaker 1: three quarters of the biion dollars. He wanted transportation to
- 14:39Speaker 1: all his classes. His parents, they wanted a suite, I mean,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and they were like, yeah, just we're not going to
- 14:44Speaker 1: do that. And I talked to somebody that actually was
- 14:48Speaker 1: involved with the program and they said it wasn't that
- 14:51Speaker 1: they didn't want him, they were just like it was
- 14:53Speaker 1: going to set such a bad precedent for the locker
- 14:56Speaker 1: room that they didn't want that in the locker room
- 14:59Speaker 1: because it didn't make sense. And that's where I think
- 15:03Speaker 1: the portal has evolved and We're not gonna see some
- 15:06Speaker 1: of these huge names jump into portal unless they've got
- 15:09Speaker 1: deals done before they come out, because now you've got
- 15:12Speaker 1: kids that are gonna stay in longer. I mean, no
- 15:15Speaker 1: one's coming out to go to the NFL draft now
- 15:17Speaker 1: and not getting drafted. I mean, and whereas when you
- 15:20Speaker 1: and I started doing this podcast, we would see kids
- 15:22Speaker 1: that would come out to get drafted and you're like,
- 15:25Speaker 1: who in the hell is telling that kid he's gonna
- 15:27Speaker 1: get drafted? Yeah, and you and then he doesn't get drafted.
- 15:30Speaker 1: He's got no degree, he doesn't have any eligibility left,
- 15:33Speaker 1: and he's trying to do whatever he's gonna do. And
- 15:35Speaker 1: so the one thing I will say about the kids
- 15:37Speaker 1: getting paid is it may keep the continuity the roster
- 15:41Speaker 1: together better from the corese spot. And I think the
- 15:43Speaker 1: portal is gonna be more like a free agency spot
- 15:45Speaker 1: where you're gonna say, you know, we need go find
- 15:48Speaker 1: me a tackle. You know, we need to see if
- 15:50Speaker 1: we can find, you know, a slot receiver and some
- 15:52Speaker 1: things like from the better teams.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Well, I think I agree with that one hundred percent.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I think the teams that are gonna win national championships,
- 15:59Speaker 2: that's gonna be hot the Ohio State. The look at
- 16:02Speaker 2: the teams up that arrived late. We said this before
- 16:05Speaker 2: and I'm gonna reinforce it. You look at the final
- 16:08Speaker 2: four teams that were there, that's pretty that's a lot
- 16:11Speaker 2: of roster Texas probably being the least of the bunch
- 16:15Speaker 2: that didn't develop the roster. Notre Dame was all developed
- 16:21Speaker 2: minus Riley Leonard, a kicker and a couple of guys.
- 16:24Speaker 3: That's their dudes.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Ohio State a lot of the same way. A lot
- 16:28Speaker 2: of guys have played a lot of downs for Ohio State,
- 16:32Speaker 2: and it's very much true for Penn State. So I
- 16:35Speaker 2: think you're I think you're gonna see that matter because
- 16:38Speaker 2: I do. It is extremely hard to win, bringing guys
- 16:41Speaker 2: in and out, egos, getting to know one another. There's
- 16:44Speaker 2: very little sacked. A selfish player does very little sacrificing.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Guys who stick things out and overcome adversity are are
- 16:52Speaker 2: tougher mentally, but they're better players, you know, because they've
- 16:56Speaker 2: overcome that coach digging into them and has work through
- 17:00Speaker 2: whatever reason they weren't on the field. And I think
- 17:04Speaker 2: you are going to see some of those teams. That's
- 17:06Speaker 2: one reason I think what Hugh Freeese is doing at
- 17:09Speaker 2: Auburn may turn out to be great because he knew
- 17:13Speaker 2: it didn't matter who they signed at quarterback two years ago.
- 17:15Speaker 2: That roster sucked and he knew and he didn't go
- 17:19Speaker 2: waste his money on that. And he's been signing and
- 17:22Speaker 2: developing kids. But you look at what they just signed.
- 17:25Speaker 2: They're gonna be a lot of talent on that roster
- 17:27Speaker 2: and in a year or two they may be hell
- 17:30Speaker 2: on wheels. And if Arnold's as good as everyone says
- 17:33Speaker 2: he is, then because that's now, he's now. Jeffley was
- 17:38Speaker 2: really high on him when he was the offensive coordinator.
- 17:41Speaker 2: That says to me a lot just because the coach
- 17:43Speaker 2: leaves and the other guy that know how to use
- 17:45Speaker 2: you doesn't make you a bad football coach. We're gonna
- 17:47Speaker 2: find out because Hugh Freeze has never had a quarterback
- 17:50Speaker 2: this talent, So it's gonna be interesting to see what
- 17:53Speaker 2: he can do with him and what and what that
- 17:56Speaker 2: does with all the talent that he's got around him
- 17:59Speaker 2: all and may bump way up. I'm also interested to
- 18:03Speaker 2: see what you said about Grubb coming back to Alabama
- 18:06Speaker 2: because the leash will be short on him remember they
- 18:10Speaker 2: fired Bill Curry for going ten and two.
- 18:12Speaker 1: This is something I know.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And and missing nine to three and missing playoffs ain't
- 18:19Speaker 2: good enough. At Alabama, you will get your ass fired
- 18:21Speaker 2: and you won't get but two or three years to do.
- 18:24Speaker 1: No I I we could talk about this because I've
- 18:27Speaker 1: already started going through schedules and everything for next year
- 18:30Speaker 1: and coaches on the hot seat, and and I'm here
- 18:33Speaker 1: to tell you, like, if you go through the SEC
- 18:35Speaker 1: and you look at coaches on the hot seat, I
- 18:37Speaker 1: have killing the boor if a ten means you're on fire,
- 18:41Speaker 1: I've got to boring about a six and a half.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I mean, I really do.
- 18:44Speaker 2: And I'm go hiring that couple months if they if
- 18:47Speaker 2: they get somebody hurt at quarterback or whatever, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 2: Like I think Simpson may be great, you know, but
- 18:55Speaker 2: if they get somebody hurt and they go eating four,
- 19:01Speaker 2: they don't care. Well, if why don't you have two
- 19:04Speaker 2: on the bench behind him, Well, because this is the
- 19:07Speaker 2: portal era and that guy doesn't stick around, they don't care.
- 19:10Speaker 2: They're gonna be like you're fired day.
- 19:12Speaker 1: If Kayln de Bor has a season like Mike Norvel
- 19:15Speaker 1: had at Florida State, he's gone.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm gone. I don't care if he does exactly what
- 19:23Speaker 2: Norbel did. He never gets this year, he's done. He's
- 19:27Speaker 2: gonna hang that up. That Bama fans would lose their mind.
- 19:32Speaker 2: They would lose their mind.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And if Auburn has a good season this year and
- 19:36Speaker 1: those two teams, I mean, it's it'll get so ugly
- 19:40Speaker 1: when you get down there. Because I think Georgia is
- 19:42Speaker 1: gonna be really good again next year. I think Texas
- 19:44Speaker 1: is gonna be really good again next year. I think
- 19:47Speaker 1: LSU is gonna be good next year. And if you
- 19:49Speaker 1: know so, there's a lot in the SEC already that
- 19:52Speaker 1: I and I haven't even looked at schedules yet that
- 19:55Speaker 1: I think are teams that are sitting in a good spot.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And I think, if you're the Alabama fans, is as
- 20:01Speaker 1: much as those people have gotten where, they love winning
- 20:04Speaker 1: because they had Nick Saban for so long and they
- 20:07Speaker 1: created a model that worked, you know, time and time again.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It worked. And the fact that and that's what they're
- 20:13Speaker 1: the short sightedness of it is. First off, the Saving
- 20:15Speaker 1: model wouldn't work anymore because Saved didn't have to coach
- 20:18Speaker 1: through the portal the way that it was and people
- 20:20Speaker 1: can say, oh, yeah, everybody's paying now. Difference is Savan
- 20:23Speaker 1: built something that worked, and he was able to do
- 20:25Speaker 1: it with different coaches, different coordinators, different players a year
- 20:28Speaker 1: after year, different styles of offense, different styles of defense.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Everything he's gone and there's not another one in the building.
- 20:35Speaker 1: There's not another one in the country that we've seen
- 20:36Speaker 1: so far, and so the whole game is evolving and
- 20:40Speaker 1: Bor's gonna It'll be really interesting because if he comes
- 20:43Speaker 1: out next year and goes eight and four and loses
- 20:45Speaker 1: to Auburn, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he's
- 20:49Speaker 1: fired that The kicker to me is is who wants
- 20:51Speaker 1: to walk into that job next? Because I mean it's
- 20:56Speaker 1: kind of like, whooa man, you know we should go
- 20:59Speaker 1: out sometime. And then it's like, co Lee, you are
- 21:01Speaker 1: not as hot as I thought you were going to
- 21:03Speaker 1: dress sobered up the next morning, because that's kind of
- 21:05Speaker 1: how I feel what they are right now. It's like,
- 21:07Speaker 1: who that chick was hot as shit? And then I
- 21:10Speaker 1: came home from Waterborg with breakfast and I was like, man,
- 21:12Speaker 1: she looks nasty when she still worn yesterday's clothes, Because
- 21:15Speaker 1: that's what I kind of like they're thinking about right now,
- 21:18Speaker 1: because that's that's just my two cents worth on that.
- 21:20Speaker 2: But late night tiketos but not over breakfast tacos.
- 21:24Speaker 1: No, no, man, it's like and I mean not that
- 21:27Speaker 1: I've ever been down that road to know how that works,
- 21:31Speaker 1: but bitch is greasy, gotta take that shit to the house.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you that. I'll tell you this that.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Looking at moving on to a little bit of gambling
- 21:41Speaker 2: and the team's coming back, I think Penn State has
- 21:45Speaker 2: got to be on everybody's right arm.
- 21:47Speaker 3: I think they absolutely absolutely have to be.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I think Ohio State's got to be. I'm gonna give
- 21:52Speaker 2: you a long shot team that I think has got
- 21:56Speaker 2: a chance to based on that schedule to surprise some people,
- 22:03Speaker 2: the Florida Gators. I mean, if continues to improve, I
- 22:09Speaker 2: think they've got a chance to really jump forward of
- 22:12Speaker 2: that team that's that next level in the league. I
- 22:16Speaker 2: think they got a chance to bump up South Carolina's
- 22:18Speaker 2: gonna be fascinating what a sellers do. Teams team's gonna
- 22:21Speaker 2: have all year to scan for him, game plan for him,
- 22:23Speaker 2: because remember SEC plays the exact same schedule they played
- 22:26Speaker 2: last year, so everybody is boom right back. So you're
- 22:30Speaker 2: gonna have all those teams game planning for him that
- 22:34Speaker 2: didn't last year. So I'll be fascinated with that. LSU
- 22:37Speaker 2: talk about hot seat. You got talking about ten on
- 22:40Speaker 2: the Hoto meter. Kelly's he better make the playoff or
- 22:44Speaker 2: he's fired.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I would agree with that. And Kelly better win this
- 22:48Speaker 1: first game of the year. They opened the season at
- 22:50Speaker 1: Clemson this year, and if he doesn't win it, it'll
- 22:53Speaker 1: be he will have not wanted to.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Got a billion people back to.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean it's so you and I and I.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I mean, I'm telling you right now, I am gonna
- 23:03Speaker 1: throw some pizza money at and that's myra to win
- 23:05Speaker 1: the Heisman because I think he's gonna throw for four
- 23:08Speaker 1: thousand yards. I mean, he just they're gonna let it rip.
- 23:11Speaker 1: The old line is gonna be pretty good. But yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 1: I agree with you at the Hottow meter. I mean,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you lose Underwood to Michigan. Uh, there's obviously some folks
- 23:19Speaker 1: at LSU that don't like him. You got the kid
- 23:21Speaker 1: coming out now and his dad saying he abandoned him
- 23:23Speaker 1: and all this other stuff. I don't know what the
- 23:25Speaker 1: purpose that is but then he has to open and
- 23:27Speaker 1: this this is this game is not one of those
- 23:29Speaker 1: made for TV games either. They're playing at Clemson to
- 23:32Speaker 1: open the season, so they will be on the road
- 23:34Speaker 1: in the other Death Valley. Uh, and it will be
- 23:38Speaker 1: a loud environment for those And I think that Clemson
- 23:40Speaker 1: team is gonna be good, really good. And so it's yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 1: there's a lot to look forward.
- 23:44Speaker 3: To for next season already.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I will I will give you one other interesting on
- 23:49Speaker 2: the on the coaching hot seat level from the SEC.
- 23:54Speaker 2: The next guy I would tell you he's on the
- 23:56Speaker 2: hot seat is Mark Stoops. Believe it for Texas A
- 24:01Speaker 2: and m and not leaving. That's kind of a forced marriage.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Now It's like, oh, I didn't have golden parachute. I
- 24:10Speaker 2: thought I had. Whoh hang on, let me go back.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Only Mama don't want you back now, you know. And
- 24:16Speaker 2: it's and and then and in a really really bad season,
- 24:20Speaker 2: he's got to bounce back and he's got to win
- 24:22Speaker 2: seven eight games, and that schedules.
- 24:25Speaker 3: It can be done.
- 24:26Speaker 2: But they gotta be markedly better, I mean markedly better
- 24:29Speaker 2: to do it. So that's gonna be uh, that's gonna
- 24:32Speaker 2: be a fascinating Uh, A fascinating watch.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Well, so I got one more than the Big Twelve.
- 24:38Speaker 1: For me, it's gonna be Texas Tech. You know, they've
- 24:41Speaker 1: got the number two portal class in the country. Uh,
- 24:44Speaker 1: They're gonna stick with the Morton, the quarterback who's had
- 24:47Speaker 1: some up and down games. They've got a backup kid
- 24:49Speaker 1: that'll be a sophomore this next year. But most of
- 24:51Speaker 1: the I mean they brought in a lot of trench,
- 24:54Speaker 1: I mean a lot of defensive and offensive trench in
- 24:56Speaker 1: there now to see how this thing's gonna turn. And
- 24:59Speaker 1: Joy mcguah a coach. I like him a lot. I
- 25:01Speaker 1: mean he's a high school coach that came up through Baylor,
- 25:04Speaker 1: and I was here. The guys at text seemed to
- 25:06Speaker 1: love him. Uh. But I think there's gonna be a
- 25:10Speaker 1: lot of pressure for him to win. And I think
- 25:12Speaker 1: the Big Twelve is going to be a lot like
- 25:13Speaker 1: the Big Twelve was last year. I mean, if you
- 25:16Speaker 1: just said, oh, Arizona State's gonna win, you're nobody had
- 25:19Speaker 1: that ticket. I bet there wasn't. I bet there wasn't
- 25:22Speaker 1: fifty of those tickets written in Vegas for them to
- 25:24Speaker 1: even win the conference before the season.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Third Mark I knew they had a chance to go
- 25:28Speaker 2: over Bowl total. I think the five something like that. Yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 2: season win total. I mean, come on, man, no, hell no,
- 25:37Speaker 2: nobody had him going to the playoffs except maybe his
- 25:39Speaker 2: wife was Scattaboy's dad or somebody. I mean, that's that's
- 25:43Speaker 2: about it. I mean, seriously, nobody coming and nobody saw me.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Why you coming? I mean, hell, I told you preseason
- 25:50Speaker 2: how high I was on that football team, and man,
- 25:55Speaker 2: we hell I even had people texting me telling me
- 25:57Speaker 2: I was crazy that were listening through Duras kick.
- 26:00Speaker 3: They were good.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Now, clip side of that is I missed on SNU.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I thought they they wouldn't be as good in the
- 26:06Speaker 2: A c C as they were. So you know, nobody
- 26:09Speaker 2: gets it right. There's gonna be teams that bounce up.
- 26:11Speaker 2: There's gonna be teams that that bounce down. But there
- 26:14Speaker 2: are there are some teams out there. Clemson I think
- 26:17Speaker 2: is gonna be is gonna be good again. I think
- 26:19Speaker 2: they're gonna be, you know, kind of like they were.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Dobbo now coming off that portal a little bit, starting
- 26:24Speaker 2: to get a player or two.
- 26:25Speaker 3: But don't forget he had some really good young wide receivers.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Uh, the West is it West Leico or West co
- 26:30Speaker 2: or whatever the kid's name is from Texas. He was
- 26:33Speaker 2: a good player. They had another good, big, long, lanky,
- 26:36Speaker 2: young wide receiver. That's what you need. You got club
- 26:39Speaker 2: Nick coming back. So that's some you know, that's an opportunity.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Uh as I see it for for for them, I
- 26:47Speaker 2: think they're gonna be good. Thank Florida State is fascinating.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Obviously he's on the he's on the high seat.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Uh.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I mean, I think I think the West Coast is
- 26:55Speaker 2: full of of people, uh to find out what happens.
- 26:59Speaker 2: There's no out. We got a coaching change at USC
- 27:03Speaker 2: if they don't make the finals, and talk about a
- 27:07Speaker 2: turn of events. You're talking about probably the young hottest
- 27:10Speaker 2: coach in the country when he's at Oklahoma Baiales to
- 27:15Speaker 2: take the USC job, and now he is literally on
- 27:17Speaker 2: the verge of getting fired. The question then becomes, much
- 27:21Speaker 2: like we talked about Texas. Is it a culture problem?
- 27:24Speaker 2: What's going on at USC that nobody can win? You've
- 27:28Speaker 2: had Lane Kiffin couldn't win now. I think they cut
- 27:30Speaker 2: the cord on Kiffing too fast. But you've had some
- 27:33Speaker 2: really good football Nave had, you know, drunk sart.
- 27:39Speaker 3: You've had drunk sart.
- 27:40Speaker 2: You've had some pretty good some guys that are having
- 27:42Speaker 2: success other places that couldn't win at U S. See
- 27:45Speaker 2: what is going on out there and does that become
- 27:48Speaker 2: a culture issue, much like we talked about with Texas,
- 27:52Speaker 2: is there's something they've got to fix that. It's too
- 27:54Speaker 2: much big city, bright lights, big money and things. There's
- 27:58Speaker 2: so much everybody always talks about. Nobody comes all the
- 28:00Speaker 2: football games in LA because there's so much more to do. Well,
- 28:03Speaker 2: maybe that's the case with them boys working hard to
- 28:06Speaker 2: you know, there's a lot of other stuff to do.
- 28:07Speaker 3: There's a lot of movie.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Stars running around. There's you know, all of that matters
- 28:11Speaker 2: for these kids, and they can get hooped up in that.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And you've got kids living in penthouses, you know, in LA.
- 28:18Speaker 2: That's a different scene than living in a nice apartment
- 28:22Speaker 2: in Columbus, Ohio. You know, and you're running, you're running
- 28:26Speaker 2: on a different level in LA. When you're out there
- 28:29Speaker 2: making a mill or two, that's a different ball game.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So again I get into that, where does that go
- 28:35Speaker 2: from a from a culture standpoint? And then I'm really
- 28:38Speaker 2: excited to see Mike Elkos second year Texas A and him.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Are they just going to remain an eight and five
- 28:43Speaker 2: football team, which candidly they've been since Jackie Sheryl. Let's
- 28:47Speaker 2: let's go yeah, let's be honest about it. That's what
- 28:50Speaker 2: that's who they are. And and do they take a
- 28:54Speaker 2: bump up? Because I believe he's as good of a
- 28:56Speaker 2: fit as A and M's had since an RC Slocum
- 28:59Speaker 2: and and a Jackie Sheryl. So I'm interested to see
- 29:02Speaker 2: how that goes. So there's a lot of good storylines,
- 29:05Speaker 2: some teams that have got a chance to be really good.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I think there's some teams that aren't going to be
- 29:09Speaker 2: very good. I will tell you I always like Kelly.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I thought he's a great coach at Notre Dame. He
- 29:15Speaker 2: doesn't win at LSU, And I am absolutely one hundred
- 29:17Speaker 2: percent coming off of that, because at the end of
- 29:20Speaker 2: the day, that's a great job. It's the only school
- 29:22Speaker 2: in the state Louisiana. They put out the fifth or
- 29:25Speaker 2: sixth most NFL guys of anybody. Between that and the
- 29:28Speaker 2: money behind that program, they ought to be able to
- 29:30Speaker 2: go select out of the portal and be successful. That
- 29:33Speaker 2: team is perfectly right. And then you mixed in the Mississippi
- 29:36Speaker 2: Gulf Coast in East Texas, and there in a prime
- 29:38Speaker 2: recruiting rang.
- 29:41Speaker 3: And hell, they're close to pan HeLa, Florida too.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I mean, people, friend mobile man, that is not that
- 29:46Speaker 2: far from Baton Rouge. So people for I mean, you're
- 29:49Speaker 2: easy eight hour drives to that. So I mean it
- 29:52Speaker 2: is that is a prime recruiting area. If he can't
- 29:56Speaker 2: get it done there, he just can't get it done.
- 29:58Speaker 2: And that's that is the bottom line. It wasn't that
- 30:00Speaker 2: Notre Dame couldn't get it done. It's that he couldn't
- 30:03Speaker 2: get it done. And I think that is going to
- 30:05Speaker 2: be extremely evident if if LUSU, because I don't think
- 30:08Speaker 2: he's getting another year if he doesn't make the playoffs.
- 30:10Speaker 2: That's a bottom line.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I agree with that. I think you're exactly on that one.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Folks.
- 30:14Speaker 1: That being said, give us some shares, give us some lags.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Hit us up on Twitter. It's got dis in one.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I'm at it. Mark, love to hear from you. Scott
- 30:21Speaker 1: and I are gonna try to cut out shows at
- 30:22Speaker 1: least every two weeks, maybe more. He'll start breaking down
- 30:25Speaker 1: some conferences. We've got wind totals. You can go to
- 30:27Speaker 1: Vagas Insider. There's wind totals that are posted by just
- 30:30Speaker 1: about all the online books that are out there now.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I haven't seen a brick and mortar that have put
- 30:34Speaker 1: one up yet, but I'm sure they're coming.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Uh.
- 30:36Speaker 1: So we'll start kind of digging into those looking to
- 30:38Speaker 1: where we can find some odds, some even placement odds,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and we might even talk about a little March madness gambling.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I'm starting to put some hedges in Scottie.
- 30:47Speaker 2: You were trying to give me to take one all
- 30:48Speaker 2: the bulldogs. I'm like, man, they sucks so bad. I
- 30:50Speaker 2: don't even know if they can win. Actually, what you
- 30:52Speaker 2: want them to do is not win again or two.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Uh is what you want. But uh, I don't think
- 30:59Speaker 2: you have to worry abot that they are, especially against
- 31:01Speaker 2: the better teams. They are not not very good at
- 31:04Speaker 2: not playing well right now, although every loss is to
- 31:06Speaker 2: a quad one team, and I think they've lost to
- 31:09Speaker 2: four teams in the top ten, so you know that's
- 31:13Speaker 2: still still But they are they are disjointed, would be
- 31:16Speaker 2: the right way to say it.
- 31:17Speaker 3: But I agree with you, March Madness. I will dive into.
- 31:20Speaker 2: A little bit as it gets a little closer and
- 31:22Speaker 2: uh and that is the two best days of the year.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I mean it is that. May be Endom may need
- 31:29Speaker 2: to organize a crazy sheet trip for next year. Uh
- 31:34Speaker 2: to March madness.
- 31:36Speaker 1: We could do that. We could do that, so they've
- 31:38Speaker 1: been said. Folks, everybody, have a great week, be safe
- 31:40Speaker 1: out there. I love you, enjoy everything, Thank you for
- 31:43Speaker 1: all the feedback and will talk to you soon.
