Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's the almost Famous podcast as we've been covering the
- 0:09Speaker 2: fallout would have been Taylor Frankie Paul's season of the Bachelorette.
- 0:13Speaker 2: We wanted to bring you some additional headline news that
- 0:16Speaker 2: recently came out. This week, Alex Cooper of Call Her
- 0:20Speaker 2: Daddy announced the cast for her new YouTube show Unwell
- 0:24Speaker 2: Winter Games, premiering April sixth. Some Bachelor Nation favorites are
- 0:30Speaker 2: also in the mix. We have a lot to cover
- 0:33Speaker 2: when it comes to this episode. Let's start with the
- 0:35Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation favorites. Joe and Serena, who recently joined Alex
- 0:40Speaker 2: Cooper's podcasting network, are at this Unwell Winter Games. Heather.
- 0:47Speaker 2: We did a Winter Games for the Bachelor years ago.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Ashley and myself were both a part of it. We
- 0:52Speaker 2: were on this show. A lot happened in both of
- 0:55Speaker 2: our lives. For me, it was very uncomfortable. Didn't want
- 0:58Speaker 2: to be there and didn't want to be there, like
- 1:00Speaker 2: I was forced to be there. I chose to be there.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Once I got there, I was like, this is not
- 1:05Speaker 2: for me. I'm not ready for this yet. Ashley did
- 1:09Speaker 2: have a little bit of a love interest on the
- 1:11Speaker 2: show and also was very out of her element when
- 1:13Speaker 2: it came to winter sports, which added a very comedic
- 1:18Speaker 2: element for me living in the house. The show I
- 1:22Speaker 2: thought was like well done. It did not get great viewership.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Nobody really watched it, but if you did watch it,
- 1:30Speaker 2: I think you would say, yeah, that was a pretty
- 1:31Speaker 2: good show. It kept me entertain It had good competitions,
- 1:34Speaker 2: it had good challenges, It was a beautiful setting. There
- 1:37Speaker 2: was some great cast members there. They brought in people
- 1:39Speaker 2: from all over the world who are part of Bachelor
- 1:42Speaker 2: Nation in different countries to be a part of this.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I loved it. It was a lot of fun to
- 1:48Speaker 2: be in the house when it wasn't pressured for dating
- 1:51Speaker 2: or hey are you going to meet anybody? And all
- 1:53Speaker 2: those things. I'm curious if Alex Coopers is going to
- 1:57Speaker 2: be similar. I'm guessing it is going to be winter
- 1:59Speaker 2: sports focused, but it's almost summer, like we're moving out
- 2:03Speaker 2: of winter.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and it feels I wonder what you think about that.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It felt like maybe your show Winter Games was probably
- 2:13Speaker 3: not taped in the winter, or what ours was? Yours
- 2:18Speaker 3: was so how long was yours held on to? Then?
- 2:21Speaker 2: It was a pretty quick turnaround, Okay, it was not long.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Okay, So that's what I thought. I thought with this show.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I was like, oh, they probably just filmed this in
- 2:31Speaker 3: the winter in Utah, and the probably the goal was
- 2:35Speaker 3: to turn it around fairly quickly. And I feel like
- 2:39Speaker 3: it's been delayed, and maybe it's been delayed because of
- 2:45Speaker 3: a lot of these contestants having some stuff that's come
- 2:49Speaker 3: out in recent weeks that is slightly problematic.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Do you know this, This might be a little bit
- 2:57Speaker 2: too much. This news just came out to us. We're
- 2:59Speaker 2: just learning about this show, just understanding the cast. I
- 3:02Speaker 2: saw him in social media that Joe and Serena were
- 3:04Speaker 2: in Utah. It looks like, so are they filming it
- 3:07Speaker 2: and putting it out within like the same week.
- 3:10Speaker 3: No, I think that this was already filmed.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Okay, this was already filmed.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So when were you seeing Joe and Serena in Utah today?
- 3:19Speaker 2: On social media? On Joe's social media, they posted, I
- 3:23Speaker 2: would love to understand if this is going to be
- 3:25Speaker 2: one of those almost live shows where they're not editing
- 3:28Speaker 2: much out. I don't know how they would do that,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I get the vibe that they these clips you're seeing
- 3:35Speaker 3: on their social media were held. I think these are
- 3:39Speaker 3: I think these are old. Okay, Yeah, because because I
- 3:45Speaker 3: can't imagine Dakota filming a show right now, because he
- 3:52Speaker 3: has full custody of his son with Taylor, So like,
- 3:56Speaker 3: how would he even be navigating that right now?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Let's die into this. Obviously, we love Joe and Serena.
- 4:02Speaker 2: They're great, they're fun, they're sweet, they're great. There's not
- 4:06Speaker 2: a lot to talk to talk about them other than hey,
- 4:08Speaker 2: I'm glad they are on TVs again. They're good people.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They're gonna be a lot of fun. But there are
- 4:14Speaker 2: some interesting cast members that are a part of this show. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 2: What I'm really curious to see if Dakota is going
- 4:23Speaker 2: to promote the show like Joe and Serena did, because
- 4:27Speaker 2: it does feel very weird to me, and this is
- 4:30Speaker 2: my own personal opinion. It feels weird to me to
- 4:33Speaker 2: know that you've been in the headlines because your ex
- 4:37Speaker 2: or your I guess you your ex and also the
- 4:40Speaker 2: woman that birth your child. Season of The Bachelorette was
- 4:44Speaker 2: canceled due to a situation that you're involved in, that
- 4:48Speaker 2: you're still involved in that you hold full custody of
- 4:52Speaker 2: the children the child right now because of this situation
- 4:55Speaker 2: that just happened, and that you'd be promoting your show
- 4:59Speaker 2: that you're going on. That feels to me maybe, and
- 5:02Speaker 2: tell me if I'm wrong. If just feels messy, I
- 5:05Speaker 2: could probably put more language behind that.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It feels super weird. It would feel very strange if
- 5:12Speaker 3: he's out here and I haven't checked his social media
- 5:15Speaker 3: actually in the last twenty four hours, but I can
- 5:17Speaker 3: pull it up right now. But yeah, I think that
- 5:19Speaker 3: is safe to say that that would feel very weird
- 5:23Speaker 3: to have been going through this huge media blitz in
- 5:27Speaker 3: the last two weeks and then to turn around and
- 5:30Speaker 3: be like, and hey, tune into this YouTube show that
- 5:33Speaker 3: I'm on where I'm competing and maybe flirting. Like I don't.
- 5:38Speaker 3: We don't really know the full concept of what's going
- 5:40Speaker 3: to happen on this show other than that they're competing
- 5:43Speaker 3: in challenges. But like, some of these people are single,
- 5:46Speaker 3: some of them aren't. I just looked at his Instagram.
- 5:49Speaker 3: He has not posted anything, so he's not promoting this
- 5:54Speaker 3: at all, not even on his stories. It looks like so, yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 3: and not only is Dakota on this cast, but so
- 6:01Speaker 3: is Demi from Secret Lives, who is a former or
- 6:05Speaker 3: current Mom Talk member. I mean, it kind of is
- 6:08Speaker 3: questionable what's going on with mom Talk. But she also
- 6:12Speaker 3: has a situation that's kind of playing out right now
- 6:16Speaker 3: because she's currently in a defamation lawsuit with vander Pump
- 6:19Speaker 3: Villa star Marciano, and we've been seeing that play out
- 6:22Speaker 3: in the headlines. He's suing her for defamation, and then
- 6:28Speaker 3: we've got this pending domestic violence think going on with Dakota.
- 6:32Speaker 3: We also have Huda from this past season of Love Island,
- 6:36Speaker 3: who currently has a restraining order out against her from
- 6:40Speaker 3: her current boyfriend's ex girlfriend. That's literally just happened within
- 6:46Speaker 3: the last two weeks. So that's why I kind of
- 6:48Speaker 3: feel like this show might have been on a bit
- 6:52Speaker 3: of a delay in the last couple of weeks because
- 6:55Speaker 3: I think also I noticed Alex Cooper, when she announced
- 6:59Speaker 3: the cast, only promoted it to her Instagram stories and
- 7:04Speaker 3: left her Unwell brand to do all the rest of
- 7:06Speaker 3: the posting. I think that that was a calculated thing
- 7:11Speaker 3: in a lot of ways. And we can go into
- 7:13Speaker 3: some of the comments that I've seen, but I think
- 7:17Speaker 3: we'll just say with the synopsis of the show is
- 7:19Speaker 3: It's sets premiere on YouTube next week. It's four episodes
- 7:23Speaker 3: and brings together sixteen contestants at a luxury chalet in
- 7:27Speaker 3: Park City, Utah, to compete in a series of mental
- 7:30Speaker 3: and physical challenges over four days. They're divided into two teams,
- 7:37Speaker 3: one purple and the other blue, with one team winning
- 7:40Speaker 3: the final team prize. In addition, competitors will individually compete
- 7:45Speaker 3: for cash prizes throughout the challenges that make up the competition.
- 7:50Speaker 3: The series was shot this past winner and was approved
- 7:53Speaker 3: for film incentive money by the Utah Board of Tourism Development.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Interesting, Okay, so it was shot already, they've decided to
- 8:03Speaker 2: come out with it. Yeah, And I think that's an
- 8:05Speaker 2: element here that we should discuss. You didn't mention Anna Delvy.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Anna Delvy being in the cast obviously is
- 8:14Speaker 3: a very controversial move. You did you know what her
- 8:18Speaker 3: situation was about that she was a artist?
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I've watched the whole Netflix show and then also
- 8:24Speaker 2: she was on Dance with the Stars. Yeah, I guess,
- 8:29Speaker 2: And just help me make sense of it. I look
- 8:33Speaker 2: at this cast, I'm like, Okay, there's some stuff here, right,
- 8:35Speaker 2: Like some stuff that we should be I would assume
- 8:38Speaker 2: that society still takes very seriously some stuff that like
- 8:42Speaker 2: is harmful or has hurt themselves or others in the process.
- 8:48Speaker 2: And yet it feels like those are the people right
- 8:50Speaker 2: now that we are promoting to the biggest platforms, in
- 8:53Speaker 2: the biggest stages. I think the only thing I have
- 8:57Speaker 2: to say is is it I don't want to say
- 9:00Speaker 2: it like a question. I think my initial reaction is this,
- 9:03Speaker 2: and I'll say it feels to me almost hypocritical for
- 9:10Speaker 2: Taylor Frankie Paul. And again I don't agree with what
- 9:13Speaker 2: happened there. I think it should have ended. I don't
- 9:15Speaker 2: think the show should have aired. Yeah, for that season
- 9:17Speaker 2: not to air, But yet Dakota is out here two
- 9:21Speaker 2: weeks later on a news show that is not getting
- 9:26Speaker 2: the same type of recourse or questions. And from my understanding,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and Heather, you've been tracking this and following this, like, yes, well,
- 9:36Speaker 2: the video in twenty twenty three is really bad. It
- 9:39Speaker 2: makes sense again on YABC did what they did, But
- 9:44Speaker 2: he's not clean in all of this yet either.
- 9:46Speaker 3: No, there's a huge question mark on what happened in February.
- 9:51Speaker 3: We still don't know he has said one thing, she
- 9:54Speaker 3: has said another. He brought a last week. We now
- 9:58Speaker 3: know that he is filing charge for a situation that
- 10:01Speaker 3: happened in twenty twenty four with her, which we don't
- 10:04Speaker 3: know the details on. We don't know what's going on
- 10:06Speaker 3: with that. So who's to say this show starts, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 3: on April sixth, but something happens with him tomorrow where
- 10:17Speaker 3: he gets charges brought against him. What are you going
- 10:21Speaker 3: to do in that situation? Are you going to air
- 10:24Speaker 3: this show? Are you going to scrap it? Same thing
- 10:29Speaker 3: with the Hoodah thing. She has a active restraining order
- 10:33Speaker 3: out against her from a woman and I won't go
- 10:38Speaker 3: into all the details. You can read them online about
- 10:40Speaker 3: what she's been accused of, violent threats, things like that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: And I just think that there's no way that these
- 10:48Speaker 3: conversations that you and I are having right now didn't
- 10:52Speaker 3: happen on the production side of this show, especially yesterday
- 10:56Speaker 3: when they were in the process of making the announcement
- 10:58Speaker 3: of their cast. I think the Internet is more of
- 11:03Speaker 3: a wild West compared to television, which that's what I
- 11:07Speaker 3: was going to ask.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Is it a different standard when it comes to network
- 11:10Speaker 2: television or YouTube?
- 11:11Speaker 3: One hundred percent. They're not having to cater to the
- 11:16Speaker 3: same kinds of ad buyers. I feel like on YouTube, right,
- 11:21Speaker 3: it's like a huge part of the money that they're
- 11:24Speaker 3: going to be making on this show is based on clicks,
- 11:27Speaker 3: not on necessarily ads. So that's your free will right
- 11:32Speaker 3: to go and watch the show, click on it, and
- 11:34Speaker 3: that is going to attribute to them making money. Are
- 11:37Speaker 3: there probably some sort of ad integrations in this show?
- 11:40Speaker 3: I would expect so. And it goes back though to
- 11:44Speaker 3: what we were kind of talking about with the network
- 11:46Speaker 3: choosing to make the pull. It's a morality decision at
- 11:50Speaker 3: some point, do you morally want to continue to give
- 11:54Speaker 3: a platform to people that have a checkered past or
- 11:59Speaker 3: have questionable things going on currently in their lives that
- 12:02Speaker 3: we don't know all the details on. Do you want
- 12:05Speaker 3: to take that risk and give them a platform or
- 12:08Speaker 3: And does this fit with the Alex Cooper brand that
- 12:13Speaker 3: she has been promoting in the last couple of years,
- 12:15Speaker 3: which is very female forward, very female independent, very women's
- 12:21Speaker 3: rights focused. And remember she was the one who made
- 12:24Speaker 3: the initial announcement and did the full interview with Taylor
- 12:28Speaker 3: Frankie Paul helping her to set the record straight as
- 12:31Speaker 3: to why she deserved this opportunity about her background taking
- 12:35Speaker 3: accountability to then talk about her toxic relationship with Dakota
- 12:41Speaker 3: and then turn around and give said toxic man a platform.
- 12:46Speaker 3: It feels a little, like you said, hypocritical in some ways.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's I'm sure these conversations have existed, like you said,
- 12:54Speaker 2: in the production room already, and as you know, they
- 12:57Speaker 2: decided to still announce that this show was happening. I don't.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I mean, I think they could have paused it and
- 13:02Speaker 2: nobody really would have known.
- 13:04Speaker 3: But then we're further away from winter. The longer you pause,
- 13:07Speaker 3: we're further from winter. And when does it then make
- 13:10Speaker 3: sense to air it? You know? So it's I understand
- 13:13Speaker 3: they're they're on a timetable as well. It's either they
- 13:16Speaker 3: air it or they don't. I don't think that they
- 13:18Speaker 3: actually had the opportunity to pause it much longer. I
- 13:21Speaker 3: assumed that they did for a second. But I think
- 13:24Speaker 3: we should read some of the feedback.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't seen any of this. You have all
- 13:28Speaker 2: of this, Yeah, I just I hope the listener's tracking
- 13:33Speaker 2: with the like thought process here of this just feels
- 13:38Speaker 2: and I mean, goodness, Unfortunately for the Unwell network. This
- 13:41Speaker 2: is ill timed no matter what at this point, Like
- 13:43Speaker 2: it is, stuff happened outside of you know, this show,
- 13:48Speaker 2: specifically with a large cast that made them have these
- 13:54Speaker 2: conversations in the background, and they probably have a lot
- 13:56Speaker 2: of money into the show and it's one of their
- 13:59Speaker 2: first shows that they're or you know, launching.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I agree, but I will say that Anna Delby is
- 14:04Speaker 3: a choice, right. All of her stuff happened long before filming.
- 14:08Speaker 2: But Disney had her on exactly the stars so if one,
- 14:12Speaker 2: you know, they fell on the sword for it, and
- 14:15Speaker 2: they did have a lot of negative feedback. I do
- 14:17Speaker 2: remember that, you know, coming out of the show. But
- 14:20Speaker 2: she made it, you know, didn't she make it reasonably far?
- 14:23Speaker 3: No, she got kicked off really early on.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Okay, But.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a choice. It's a choice though. The other things,
- 14:32Speaker 3: the Dakota stuff, the hood of stuff, the Demi stuff,
- 14:37Speaker 3: that all has really come out in the last like
- 14:40Speaker 3: month or so. Yeah. I mean, some of these comments
- 14:44Speaker 3: that were left on the Unwell page bream z News
- 14:47Speaker 3: Underscore said, Alex do not piss me off. Why would
- 14:51Speaker 3: you have Dakota on this show? He is involved in
- 14:54Speaker 3: a serious investigation, do better and don't do everything for views.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Shaking my head. Another Olivia peg ram X says, why
- 15:05Speaker 3: does Taylor's show get canceled? And then Dakota gets an opportunity?
- 15:09Speaker 3: Has nobody watched? Tell me lies he is not worthy
- 15:12Speaker 3: of this opportunity. People went on to say, Dakota and Hoodah,
- 15:16Speaker 3: what are you doing? I spied this person, put I
- 15:20Speaker 3: spy domestic abuse and filed restraining orders all over this
- 15:24Speaker 3: lineup with a mix of actual cool people. What is happening?
- 15:28Speaker 3: Are there no standards anymore? And I think that just
- 15:30Speaker 3: kind of goes back to what you and I were
- 15:32Speaker 3: just discussing. It feels like the wild cards are just
- 15:40Speaker 3: being given opportunity time and time again, when other people
- 15:45Speaker 3: have to jump through hoops and have to pass background
- 15:49Speaker 3: checks and things like that. It just seems like celebrities,
- 15:52Speaker 3: and I use the term celebrity very loosely when talking
- 15:55Speaker 3: about this lineup is given things and cut corners. And
- 16:01Speaker 3: we just saw how cutting corners for somebody ended up.
- 16:05Speaker 3: It ended up with a show being put on the
- 16:07Speaker 3: cutting room floor. So I guess it'll be interesting to
- 16:10Speaker 3: see if people click on this and watch it, or
- 16:13Speaker 3: if anything else comes out before the show premieres. But
- 16:17Speaker 3: I think it's kind of a weird move for a
- 16:22Speaker 3: female founder who has built this gigantic platform on women
- 16:27Speaker 3: and women's stories and women kind of going against the green.
- 16:31Speaker 3: It just it feels a little off.
- 16:44Speaker 2: What happens, Heather, You've been in this world for a
- 16:47Speaker 2: long time. What happens if this show is a massive
- 16:49Speaker 2: success and this is the cast that was brought out
- 16:53Speaker 2: to the public and now it works. Do we just
- 16:56Speaker 2: continue down this lane of bringing on people who have
- 17:01Speaker 2: a questionable past because they are in the headlines, because
- 17:07Speaker 2: they are making the news. Do we just keep bringing
- 17:10Speaker 2: them on these shows because we, you know, production companies
- 17:13Speaker 2: believe that that's who the you know, what the viewers want.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I think it's a little hard for me to determine
- 17:20Speaker 3: what would be a success for this show and what
- 17:23Speaker 3: would be a fail. I think obviously a fail would
- 17:28Speaker 3: be very low view count or something. But like, does
- 17:32Speaker 3: high view count mean that it actually retained people? Does
- 17:36Speaker 3: it actually mean that people are watching it and then
- 17:39Speaker 3: going and talking about it with their friends and their
- 17:41Speaker 3: family and telling other people to go watch it. That
- 17:44Speaker 3: is what I determined to be more successful, So it's
- 17:47Speaker 3: hard for me to understand what a success would be
- 17:51Speaker 3: for a YouTube show. Also, the fact that there's only
- 17:54Speaker 3: four episodes means that to me that the bar is
- 17:57Speaker 3: pretty low in terms of success. Shooting four episodes is
- 18:01Speaker 3: a heck of a lot cheaper than shooting ten. So
- 18:07Speaker 3: is it like we get a million views for four
- 18:11Speaker 3: videos that sounds successful then, you know, because we didn't
- 18:16Speaker 3: put a lot into it. So it's going to be
- 18:18Speaker 3: hard to determine. I think what makes this show quote
- 18:21Speaker 3: unquote successful or if they're just looking at it as
- 18:23Speaker 3: successful because it's in the headlines and it's already getting
- 18:26Speaker 3: a lot of buzz.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's promoting the shows that are in her network,
- 18:31Speaker 2: like the Jod and Serena show and her talent, and
- 18:34Speaker 2: so if it's if this is a promotion or marketing play,
- 18:38Speaker 2: then yeah, it would be hard to know what's a
- 18:40Speaker 2: success or not. It's going to be interesting. It was
- 18:44Speaker 2: just announced. We wanted to break it down for you
- 18:46Speaker 2: here at the Almost Famous podcast because there are Bachelor
- 18:49Speaker 2: Nation contestants that are involved in this show, and then
- 18:51Speaker 2: obviously we have kind of the buzz around the show
- 18:55Speaker 2: with the cast that was announced as well. Heather, we'll
- 18:58Speaker 2: watch and see. You know, I'm getting older, but I
- 19:05Speaker 2: want to watch like really like fun people do fun things.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I don't necessarily love to come on this show and
- 19:13Speaker 2: break down headlines that feel very serious every week and
- 19:19Speaker 2: talk about them to the point where you almost get
- 19:21Speaker 2: calloused to the whatever is happening in somebody else's world,
- 19:25Speaker 2: Like I don't want to get there. That's kind of
- 19:27Speaker 2: my hope is as a society, as a as a viewership,
- 19:31Speaker 2: as a listener base, we don't get calloused to these
- 19:34Speaker 2: things that are really affecting human lives and affecting people
- 19:37Speaker 2: and are hurting people in the process, just because then
- 19:41Speaker 2: you know, obviously those are the people that are finding
- 19:43Speaker 2: the most success by getting on every reality television show
- 19:46Speaker 2: that's out there. But that's like probably my old man
- 19:51Speaker 2: like stance that most people would disagree with, and they're like, no,
- 19:54Speaker 2: we love watching the messiness.

- 21:04Speaker 2: It was my birthday week last week, so I was
