- 0:06Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:13Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. We'll struggling here, uh in the early days
- 0:19Speaker 1: of camp big boss man. He's out today, So you
- 0:21Speaker 1: got fortunate because I won't get him to punch, which
- 0:23Speaker 1: was my goal of the last year. Just wrote in
- 0:25Speaker 1: asking about about Lebrian Ray. Yeah. Perfect, Yeah, we've gotten
- 0:30Speaker 1: to Lebrian Ray portion. I thought that Paul nailed it
- 0:33Speaker 1: when he said it's another one of the there's another
- 0:36Speaker 1: one that's gonna go follow. In this business, the line
- 0:38Speaker 1: of scrimmage has been dominated by the defense through two
- 0:41Speaker 1: padded practices. Really, Paul, what have you seeing? What do
- 0:46Speaker 1: the mechanics look like? Can you give us some insight.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest and say I've stopped watching regular
- 0:51Speaker 1: season game with twenty nineteen they lost to the Dolphins advantage,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and you can scoff. The whole thing goes back to
- 0:59Speaker 1: Mike was right. Football illness are not football but probably
- 1:03Speaker 1: a non football illness. I don't think it's football related flu.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I don't. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan, all right,
- 1:13Speaker 1: we are back here, Patriots, unfiltered. Welcome in, guys. It
- 1:16Speaker 1: is Thursday. I think it's Thursday. We just got off
- 1:18Speaker 1: the field practice number eight and it was a hot
- 1:22Speaker 1: one out there today, A nice breefe though, Paul, I
- 1:23Speaker 1: think that was that made it a little bit comfortable
- 1:25Speaker 1: out there. I would agree. We went up to our purse.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I was expecting the worst. Yeah, it was. It was bad.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We were kind of expecting a lot today, and I
- 1:31Speaker 1: think across the board a lot of those expectations weren't
- 1:34Speaker 1: quite met in many avenues. Yeah, I mean, at this point,
- 1:38Speaker 1: Mike get all seriousness. I I do wonder if maybe
- 1:41Speaker 1: there's just a little bit of you know what this is,
- 1:44Speaker 1: what kind of what we're expecting we need to get
- 1:46Speaker 1: these bass plays in, maybe some of the defensive looks,
- 1:49Speaker 1: or you know that that's not as scripted as maybe
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know other times, and this struggling. I just feel
- 1:56Speaker 1: like it still looks to me like Mac is having
- 1:59Speaker 1: a hard time consistently finding open guys. I thought there
- 2:02Speaker 1: were times when it appeared that there were some options,
- 2:05Speaker 1: some opportunities, and then even on those he's sort of
- 2:08Speaker 1: holding the ball a little bit longer. I've seen him
- 2:11Speaker 1: hold the ball more often in this camp than I
- 2:15Speaker 1: did the entirety of last spring and summer. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I would you agree with that? I do agree with you,
- 2:20Speaker 1: And I was thinking about it yesterday, and you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's just an unfortunate realization. And I think you're living
- 2:25Speaker 1: in a place of how much is acceptable at this point?
- 2:28Speaker 1: And at what point do you feel like you're not
- 2:30Speaker 1: getting enough done and not getting those things corrected and
- 2:34Speaker 1: in order With a game coming up, we talked about
- 2:37Speaker 1: we got an in stadium practice. Bill Belichick said this
- 2:40Speaker 1: morning that that's going to be kind of the game
- 2:42Speaker 1: day mechanics, where what tunnel you come out if there's
- 2:45Speaker 1: not going to be you know, some extensive field work
- 2:47Speaker 1: tomorrow night inside the stadium. And as of right now,
- 2:49Speaker 1: they're supposed to be off Saturday Sunday and then there's
- 2:52Speaker 1: going to be two practices next week and then a game.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So is that what you did? You hear it? No?
- 2:56Speaker 1: I haven't, but I haven't. I mean, they announced two
- 2:57Speaker 1: more practices Monday Tuesday. Haven't seen. I didn't. I didn't know.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I didn't know. I was not aware of the Sunday
- 3:04Speaker 1: there just hasn't been Tuesday updates. I mean, I think
- 3:07Speaker 1: we're all anticipating that maybe there should be a practice there.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, as much as maybe we don't want to.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I was anticipating practice on Sunday. I'm still kind of
- 3:13Speaker 1: having my radar up for it. They usually don't get
- 3:15Speaker 1: two days off. But if they announced practice is open
- 3:18Speaker 1: to the public on Monday and Tuesday, then I guess
- 3:21Speaker 1: is the practicing. But it's not open. So it's a
- 3:23Speaker 1: little bit striking that that, you know, it's just offensively,
- 3:26Speaker 1: it hasn't really been able to put place together. And
- 3:29Speaker 1: I think you laid it out well, Paul. It was
- 3:31Speaker 1: you know, I mean a lot of people I saw
- 3:33Speaker 1: it early in camp. Guys aren't getting open. I agree
- 3:35Speaker 1: with though though there were guys open, it just doesn't
- 3:37Speaker 1: seem like Max seine it right now, and they're not
- 3:38Speaker 1: executing consistently. There's a play here, a play there, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's it's just nothing. Here's what I wonder, And this
- 3:44Speaker 1: is a really really big picture kind of thing that
- 3:46Speaker 1: maybe is not conducive for the you know, the middle
- 3:50Speaker 1: of training camp, which let's face it, I know it
- 3:51Speaker 1: seems like it just started Mike. But in terms of
- 3:54Speaker 1: what we'll we'll be able to watch. There's a long
- 3:56Speaker 1: way to go for the team, but in terms of
- 3:58Speaker 1: our viewing, we're gonna get about sixteen or seventeen practices halfway,
- 4:04Speaker 1: So we're almost halfway there. So we've seen about what
- 4:08Speaker 1: we're gonna you know, half of what we're gonna see.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It just looks like a bunch of guys that aren't
- 4:14Speaker 1: really like I don't know if they have a conviction
- 4:16Speaker 1: and what they're doing. And you know, when I say
- 4:19Speaker 1: a bunch of guys, I mean I don't. This is
- 4:21Speaker 1: not on mac Jones. Please don't take this as Paul
- 4:23Speaker 1: is killing the quarterback again. I'm not. I just wonder
- 4:28Speaker 1: if some of the stuff they're doing is things that
- 4:32Speaker 1: they're not overly comfortable with, and when you don't fully
- 4:35Speaker 1: believe in it, I think it's hard to execute it. Now.
- 4:39Speaker 1: That's one part. There's another part. We had a little
- 4:42Speaker 1: bit of a conversation upstairs about the whole Shanahan offense.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And I used air quotes because who knows exactly what
- 4:50Speaker 1: they're doing for a system? Okay, but if they are
- 4:53Speaker 1: to be running this new version of these you know,
- 4:56Speaker 1: shouldn't it be more like the issue and there have
- 4:59Speaker 1: been issues in the running game, but should it be
- 5:01Speaker 1: affecting the passing in as much as it is exactly?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Isn't the passing game execution on the training camp practice
- 5:07Speaker 1: field level more about you go out, You're supposed to
- 5:11Speaker 1: run this route, Go run it and beat the guy
- 5:13Speaker 1: covering you, and you throw it to him like that's
- 5:18Speaker 1: that to me is not overly schematic. It's not like
- 5:22Speaker 1: I used to be able to run a route and
- 5:23Speaker 1: get open when it was doing it that way. Now
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm having a hard time because we're doing it this way.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I don't know, very simplistic, you know, neo fhight football observer.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You know, I'm not trying to tell you I know
- 5:36Speaker 1: what the uh you know, the whole intent outs are.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And that was the hope I, you know, going into
- 5:40Speaker 1: practice today. Bill in his pre camp sorry some banging
- 5:45Speaker 1: going on here it is pre camp press conference, said,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna get into a little bit more
- 5:49Speaker 1: situational stuff today, a little bit more in the middle
- 5:51Speaker 1: of the field. And I think that's what I had
- 5:53Speaker 1: kind of been waiting for to see. You know, the
- 5:56Speaker 1: coach is not rushing in, you know, some kind of
- 5:58Speaker 1: continuity between between the lays, especially in the passing game,
- 6:01Speaker 1: like you said, where that's what that's what's been clunky.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It hasn't you know. It's fine if you want to
- 6:06Speaker 1: talk about zone runs and all that, but it's the
- 6:09Speaker 1: passing game that just doesn't seem like they're seeing it yet.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Now that maybe that means that they will see it eventually.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Maybe mac Jones will, you know, get more comfortable and
- 6:16Speaker 1: seem to know where to go quickly with the ball.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But I think your point at the top was it
- 6:21Speaker 1: was a great one and that's the strength of mac
- 6:23Speaker 1: Jones when he came in, was identifying with the coverage
- 6:26Speaker 1: is quick decision get the ball out. That was you
- 6:29Speaker 1: know why they why they love him. We're not seeing
- 6:31Speaker 1: so much of that. I mean, I would almost say,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and you know I'm not. I'm not trying to stir
- 6:34Speaker 1: the pot, but you know, Bailey's athlete has had a
- 6:36Speaker 1: couple throws. What I felt like, it's funny because we
- 6:38Speaker 1: keep joking about it every day and now all of
- 6:40Speaker 1: a sudden it's been three or four days. And don't
- 6:42Speaker 1: discount I said, I used to say this stuff last
- 6:44Speaker 1: year when it was Cam Newton and Mac Jones. Don't
- 6:48Speaker 1: discount that one guy's getting a different look than another,
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, and who he's playing against. And I do
- 6:55Speaker 1: think that maybe for Zappy it's more about, hey, we
- 6:59Speaker 1: need to execute the place. You just need the reps
- 7:02Speaker 1: to get Because I thought it was interesting today that
- 7:04Speaker 1: Hoyer was back, you know, fully fully back in full uniform,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and Zappy got the two you know, the second reps.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Now that makes sense. Soon Howyer missed five days, give
- 7:15Speaker 1: him a little time to get reacclimated. I did think
- 7:18Speaker 1: he looked a little rusty throwing the ball in some
- 7:19Speaker 1: of the other drills, but the full eleven on eleven
- 7:23Speaker 1: it was Mac Jones and then Bailey Zappy, two different sets. Yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and I thought, you know, you're right. I mean, if
- 7:29Speaker 1: I have to, if I'm going to be honest and fair,
- 7:34Speaker 1: when the players are running Zappy, he's running them. They
- 7:36Speaker 1: look better. Now everything you said is accurate. He's doing
- 7:38Speaker 1: it against third stringers and with backups, and there's still
- 7:44Speaker 1: plenty of times that he has to pull the ball
- 7:45Speaker 1: down and run around too. It's not exactly been a
- 7:48Speaker 1: juggernaut when he's out right well as you guys can
- 7:50Speaker 1: probably tell it's just Mike and Paul right now. We
- 7:52Speaker 1: are expecting more people to be joining us. Evan will
- 7:54Speaker 1: be coming in a little bit. He's up writing right now.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But sometimes all the interviews spill over and people are
- 7:59Speaker 1: off doing various things. So we jumped right in at
- 8:02Speaker 1: the top on kind of the offense, which of course
- 8:04Speaker 1: feels like the big headline of training camp as far.
- 8:06Speaker 1: But but let's get some housekeeping stuff out of the
- 8:09Speaker 1: way too. Guys back today Jibrol Pepper's Malcolm Butler and
- 8:14Speaker 1: and Hoyer numbers three, four and five. So back in
- 8:17Speaker 1: pads today after pulling back yesterday. Unfortunately, it looked like
- 8:22Speaker 1: maybe a significant injury to to Gilani Tavai. That's gonna
- 8:25Speaker 1: be something we're gonna need to keep an eye on.
- 8:28Speaker 1: There was definitely a lot of concern, I would say,
- 8:30Speaker 1: on the field for him. Um it was. I mean,
- 8:37Speaker 1: there was a couple of different accounts. It seemed like
- 8:39Speaker 1: it was a non contact kind of an injury. It
- 8:43Speaker 1: looked like and I talked to a couple of different
- 8:44Speaker 1: people and it said it looked like he was sort
- 8:46Speaker 1: of moving in and kind of buckled. It wasn't but
- 8:48Speaker 1: it could have been. It was a running place, so
- 8:50Speaker 1: it could have been maybe Aligneman got got on him
- 8:53Speaker 1: a little bit. But it didn't look good. It didn't.
- 8:56Speaker 1: It didn't look good. And I know that like Steve
- 8:58Speaker 1: Belichick and Gerard Mayo both went with him to the
- 9:00Speaker 1: medical temp bill, you know, the linebacker coaches obviously with
- 9:03Speaker 1: a linebacker, UM, you don't ever want to lose lose
- 9:07Speaker 1: any players, especially in a practice setting. So that was unfortunate. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we've talked about They've had pretty good health so far
- 9:13Speaker 1: and been pretty lucky. Guys that have gone out of
- 9:15Speaker 1: have all been at least back or you know there
- 9:17Speaker 1: for the initial portions, maybe because they go down to
- 9:19Speaker 1: the field, but everybody's seemed has been upright so far.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So unfortunate injuries something to monitor. Also a little bit
- 9:26Speaker 1: of fun today it's a traditional day where just to
- 9:28Speaker 1: hold off on that for one point seconds. Continuing with
- 9:31Speaker 1: the uh the bookkeeping, Matthew Judahon was not spotted today
- 9:35Speaker 1: at practice. Fairly significant player obviously, UM not sure. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: didn't see him out of uniform anyway, either, did you. No? No, no,
- 9:44Speaker 1: So I don't know if there's anything physical going on
- 9:47Speaker 1: or if you know, maybe he had a personal matter
- 9:49Speaker 1: to attend to. But we didn't see him today, and
- 9:51Speaker 1: he was scheduled pre pre practice. He was one of
- 9:55Speaker 1: the players that we had listed that we were going
- 9:57Speaker 1: to get a chance to speak to. So yeah, no,
- 9:59Speaker 1: no on today. Something to watch. I mean, God bless him.
- 10:02Speaker 1: He's always out there in a sweatshirt, so I don't
- 10:04Speaker 1: know how he would have done today. Although, as we said,
- 10:06Speaker 1: not as hot, a little bit of wind, but it
- 10:08Speaker 1: was made a little bit easier. Thought it was great,
- 10:11Speaker 1: a little bit easier. Yeah, they loved that southern Southern heat.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Not quite the humidity today, but tradition every year they
- 10:18Speaker 1: early and early in the day you see the coaches
- 10:20Speaker 1: spraying down the top of the hill with water and
- 10:23Speaker 1: then they kind of have a loose ball drill. They
- 10:25Speaker 1: throw the ball down, Matthew Slayter manning the hose, dousing
- 10:29Speaker 1: all the rookies, the rookie coaches as well. So a
- 10:31Speaker 1: little bit of fun there at the start of practice.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And I heard Taekwon Thorte say, you know, it actually
- 10:36Speaker 1: was pretty nice. He got cooled up before practice, felt
- 10:39Speaker 1: it was one of his better practices. So he thinks
- 10:41Speaker 1: maybe he should do that all the time. I got
- 10:42Speaker 1: to go for a swim every practice, but planning to
- 10:45Speaker 1: get to uh we saw practice yesterday a little bit
- 10:48Speaker 1: of a dialed back version. No pads back into pads today.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But I love to hear from you guys, of course,
- 10:54Speaker 1: please write in with your questions web radio Patriots dot com.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Give us a buzz on the on the eight five
- 11:01Speaker 1: five pats five hundred. I can't seem to remember that number.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I'll get it eventually, but we've got some questions certainly
- 11:06Speaker 1: coming in now. And so I did think, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 1: the offense continues to be I think the main focus
- 11:12Speaker 1: of training camp so far. I mean, I think every
- 11:14Speaker 1: day one of us is coming away talking about the offense. Right.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I think there were some signs I did think there wasn't.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I think it was two sets of eight plays that
- 11:26Speaker 1: Mac Jones was involved with with the team. At the
- 11:29Speaker 1: end of the day, the running game is going nowhere
- 11:33Speaker 1: and there's almost no opportunities for any yardage on the ground.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The passing game, there's too many times where Mac, I think,
- 11:41Speaker 1: is forced to pull the ball down. Now when he
- 11:43Speaker 1: was able to throw the ball in rhythm, I felt
- 11:45Speaker 1: like he did a he had a decent job of
- 11:48Speaker 1: I think he hit Jono Smith on a little hook
- 11:51Speaker 1: that looked, you know, in rhythm. One of the later
- 11:55Speaker 1: plays that Mac was involved might have been his last play. Um,
- 11:58Speaker 1: a nice sort of drag out across the backland of
- 12:01Speaker 1: the end zone fire corner to Trey Nixon and you
- 12:04Speaker 1: know Matt threw his hands up in the air for
- 12:06Speaker 1: a touchdown. So it's not with Yeah, it's not without
- 12:10Speaker 1: any moments. I mean they have they've had, they've had
- 12:14Speaker 1: some periods. You know. I just want to sort of
- 12:16Speaker 1: like paint the entire picture and not just do the
- 12:19Speaker 1: sensationalistic view of all, we're not gonna be able to
- 12:22Speaker 1: move up. Last year, we couldn't force a punt. This year,
- 12:24Speaker 1: we're not gonna get a first down. You know, Like
- 12:26Speaker 1: it's not like that. It hasn't been that bad. Um,
- 12:29Speaker 1: it's just been really clunky, and I think for US
- 12:33Speaker 1: Patriots watchers that have been around for a long time
- 12:36Speaker 1: and just not used to seeing on the practice field
- 12:40Speaker 1: sort of spotty execution, it's been jarring to see and
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know you can't help but sort of try to
- 12:46Speaker 1: put two and two together and say, is it a
- 12:48Speaker 1: new system? Is it the new coordinators. Is there a
- 12:51Speaker 1: lack of communication? Uh? There certainly seems to be. There
- 12:53Speaker 1: was another play with John who Smith that certainly looked
- 12:56Speaker 1: like Mac and Smith weren't on the same page. Mac
- 13:00Speaker 1: through the ball of the outside. Joe Smith sort of
- 13:02Speaker 1: stopped and then Mac went up to him after the
- 13:04Speaker 1: play and was sort of gesturing, which told me that
- 13:06Speaker 1: it was probably on John. Um. So there's still some
- 13:10Speaker 1: of those kinds of periods. And like you said, Mike,
- 13:11Speaker 1: it's still too many runarounds and not finding anybody to
- 13:14Speaker 1: throw to it, isn't. I mean, there's just not a
- 13:16Speaker 1: lot of plays that look like Patriot plays, even the
- 13:19Speaker 1: ones that they complete. Sometimes they're exciting, maybe DeVante Parker
- 13:23Speaker 1: with some of those contested catches early on, which you
- 13:25Speaker 1: know hasn't only been there Bread and Butter. I think
- 13:27Speaker 1: they're just missing that kind of you know, bing bang boom,
- 13:30Speaker 1: it's out. You know though those kind of plays, it
- 13:32Speaker 1: just doesn't seem like there's enough of them. But you
- 13:34Speaker 1: mentioned Trey Nixon. I mean I thought of everybody. He
- 13:37Speaker 1: popped a little bit today for me, just in terms
- 13:39Speaker 1: of his quickness and kind of standing out with a
- 13:41Speaker 1: couple moves of shaking loose here and there. We're finally
- 13:43Speaker 1: going to have one. Yeah, there's a guy that you
- 13:45Speaker 1: and I really disagree on. Yeah, and it's okay. You
- 13:48Speaker 1: don't have to put that, you don't have to put
- 13:50Speaker 1: that look on your face. This is what the show
- 13:52Speaker 1: was all about, all right, conflict, let's do it. Um. Yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think he's fine. Like I think he's fine. I
- 13:58Speaker 1: think he's one of I think he's in a mold
- 14:01Speaker 1: of many receivers that are coming gone through here. I
- 14:04Speaker 1: think he is a lower half of the receiving depth
- 14:08Speaker 1: chart kind of option. I think he's a littlely consistent.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I think he had a drop today in a past
- 14:13Speaker 1: that was just a little behind him, but I thought
- 14:15Speaker 1: he should have caught it. He's made some plays here
- 14:18Speaker 1: and there. I think I think he's I think that
- 14:22Speaker 1: a lot of people think of him in the mold
- 14:25Speaker 1: of the other guy, you know, like, oh, he's, you know,
- 14:27Speaker 1: sort of small. He's not that small, and he's a
- 14:31Speaker 1: little he's a little shiftier. But I think he's got
- 14:34Speaker 1: some straight line speed too, So I don't think he's
- 14:37Speaker 1: without skill. But I don't think I'm as high on
- 14:39Speaker 1: him as you are. And I don't I don't know
- 14:41Speaker 1: how high I am I think, I mean, what might
- 14:43Speaker 1: actually be the problem? I know what, I'm pretty high.
- 14:47Speaker 1: The problem might be just that there aren't a lot
- 14:49Speaker 1: of shifty guys on the offense. I mean, they've got
- 14:51Speaker 1: a lot of long, fast guys. And I don't know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think some of his some of his moments just
- 14:56Speaker 1: show me that he can kind of shake a guy
- 14:58Speaker 1: loose and get open quick and and as I said
- 15:00Speaker 1: at the top, I felt like that's not really what's
- 15:03Speaker 1: been happening. And you know, we'll see. I mean, he
- 15:06Speaker 1: certainly has has, you know, maybe ticked up his reps
- 15:09Speaker 1: with the top guys maybe five percent. I mean, just
- 15:11Speaker 1: a little bit here and there, just a little little bit.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Nothing to say, I'm gonna, you know, blow the hype
- 15:15Speaker 1: train on him, But I think it just speaks to
- 15:17Speaker 1: the overall dynamic of the receiver group now where it
- 15:21Speaker 1: seems like they got a lot of tall guys with
- 15:22Speaker 1: some long speed, but not really those shifty, quick, open guys.
- 15:25Speaker 1: And I will say this in terms of something I
- 15:27Speaker 1: mentioned a couple of weeks ago, toward the bottom of
- 15:31Speaker 1: the depth chart at that spot, at that position, you know,
- 15:34Speaker 1: look what they do right, and they went out in
- 15:36Speaker 1: the last you know, six six weeks. They they got
- 15:39Speaker 1: little Jordan Humphrey and Josh Hammond. Well, I would say
- 15:44Speaker 1: without question, during the week plus that we've seen of
- 15:48Speaker 1: training camp, Christian Wilkerson and more more so Trey Nixon
- 15:52Speaker 1: have been well ahead of those newcomers in terms of
- 15:56Speaker 1: reps production just overall all fint and what they're doing right.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Those other guys sort of get in there, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: as scraps, whereas Nixon, as you pointed out, has gotten
- 16:08Speaker 1: some learningful rests like that last one was that was
- 16:11Speaker 1: Mac Jones and the quote unquote Ones on that last
- 16:14Speaker 1: play for a touchdown. So I thought that maybe they
- 16:18Speaker 1: were looking to add some quality to the depth. Well
- 16:22Speaker 1: if if these guys were brought in to push guys
- 16:24Speaker 1: like Wilkerson and Nixon, I think Nick Nixon in particular
- 16:28Speaker 1: has responded to that challenge. He's clearly ahead of those guys. Yeah,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and I did see a ton out of Thornton today,
- 16:34Speaker 1: But I mean, I think overall, when you're talking about
- 16:36Speaker 1: trying to pull some positive elements from what you've seen
- 16:40Speaker 1: through the first week of camp, just as a rookie receiver.
- 16:43Speaker 1: We know the history. Certainly some of his highlights have
- 16:46Speaker 1: popped up, you know, various reports, see some videos here
- 16:49Speaker 1: and there. But you know, I think I think there's
- 16:51Speaker 1: some promise with Nixon, and I'm sorry with with Thornton.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's something we've been talking about. The speed it's there.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It seems like he's making progress us. I think we're
- 17:01Speaker 1: all getting to the point now where let that kid
- 17:04Speaker 1: play get him in there. As much as he said,
- 17:06Speaker 1: oh he's going to be a ret shirt ear, it
- 17:07Speaker 1: seems like what he's doing out there, he just looks
- 17:11Speaker 1: a little comfortable, more comfortable to me every day, and
- 17:13Speaker 1: every day isn't splashy plays or you know, certainly he's
- 17:16Speaker 1: part of this offense that has been up and I
- 17:18Speaker 1: don't even want to call it up and down. It's sporadic,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I guess would be the word. But I think my
- 17:24Speaker 1: word is, yeah, clunky, clunky. It's true. And even the
- 17:28Speaker 1: plays that they make, it's it's it doesn't even leave
- 17:30Speaker 1: you feeling like, well, there it was. It's gotten to
- 17:32Speaker 1: the point where like a pretty routine play like the
- 17:34Speaker 1: one I described to John H. Smith, the play where
- 17:38Speaker 1: the snap happens backfoot timing bang on the cut, catches it,
- 17:44Speaker 1: turns and makes makes a play and you're like, oh,
- 17:48Speaker 1: that's a Patriots play. Yeah, me and Andy used to
- 17:50Speaker 1: call them Patriots plays. That's a Patriots. But that's the
- 17:52Speaker 1: way it looks, you know, when the pots, that's the
- 17:56Speaker 1: way it looks. Yeah. They've had him so infrequently in
- 18:00Speaker 1: eight days that I can sort of remember him, and
- 18:03Speaker 1: that was one of them. Yeah, And that's the hard
- 18:05Speaker 1: part with with Mac and you know, hoping that he
- 18:08Speaker 1: makes a jump this year, and he just he doesn't
- 18:09Speaker 1: seem to be seeing it right now. And I guess
- 18:12Speaker 1: my my concern is just you've only got a I mean,
- 18:15Speaker 1: as you said, a handful of practices left. I mean,
- 18:17Speaker 1: of course they're going to continue to work on things
- 18:20Speaker 1: after we're kicked out and no longer able to view it,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but you just I don't want to see they're wasting. Sure,
- 18:25Speaker 1: it looks bad, so he can surprise every right, everyone's
- 18:28Speaker 1: expected a terrible, terrible offense. But I mean, unfortunately, you
- 18:32Speaker 1: look at we're gonna get you know, I don't know
- 18:33Speaker 1: what's gonna happen on Sunday, but we're gonna get two
- 18:35Speaker 1: next week, we'll get a couple of joint practices, and
- 18:37Speaker 1: I think certainly those will be telling against another defense
- 18:40Speaker 1: who you know, maybe isn't quite sure what they're gonna do,
- 18:43Speaker 1: isn't really expecting it. I mean, you know, but we
- 18:45Speaker 1: got into a conversation about about the preseason, and you know,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I said the question of is it possible that we
- 18:51Speaker 1: get into the preseason? Of course the preseason, but you
- 18:53Speaker 1: know that the offense looks okay, I definitely defense is
- 18:56Speaker 1: you know, but I know that that I definitely think
- 18:58Speaker 1: that seen happen a lot. Yeah, I mean, I know
- 19:01Speaker 1: it's fools gold in preseason. There's no scheming. You're just
- 19:04Speaker 1: kind of playing. You're trying to get a look at guys.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Sometimes you're not even playing the starters. So well, get yeah,
- 19:08Speaker 1: you get a matchup. You know, You're like, but at
- 19:11Speaker 1: this point, I'll take it, Paul, I'll take it just
- 19:13Speaker 1: because they haven't seen you're asking me what I'd rather
- 19:15Speaker 1: have them go out and score thirty points in the
- 19:17Speaker 1: first half of a preseason game. Will continue to do this.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I'll take the thirty points and a half, and I'll
- 19:22Speaker 1: temper everyone's enthusiasm while I'm doing it. But I'd rather
- 19:25Speaker 1: do that than say, my god, they can't even move
- 19:27Speaker 1: the ball when the third string guy from Sony's car
- 19:29Speaker 1: watches covering them exactly. And that's and that's where it's.
- 19:32Speaker 1: You get into seven on seven and you're like, all right,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it's not bad out there. Like about seven on seven,
- 19:36Speaker 1: they look competent, as in any NFL offense should look,
- 19:39Speaker 1: regardless of changing schemes or coaches or anything. You're in
- 19:41Speaker 1: seven on seven, you know you should be able to
- 19:43Speaker 1: complete passes and move the ball. But at this point,
- 19:46Speaker 1: that's what I'll take, even if it's fools gold of
- 19:48Speaker 1: a preseason performance against nobody's with back just to at
- 19:52Speaker 1: least show that they can execute. And I think that's
- 19:54Speaker 1: what's you know, you said clunky, it's just not executing.
- 19:58Speaker 1: And so one thing I'll say, like, you know, for
- 20:00Speaker 1: the most part, when you're practicing in training camp, you
- 20:04Speaker 1: know it's DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholod, Jakobe Myers, Kendrick Boorne
- 20:08Speaker 1: going against you know, Jalen Mills, and you know Terrence
- 20:12Speaker 1: Mitchell and Malcolm Butler and Jonathan Jones, and you know
- 20:15Speaker 1: with the you know, a good group of safeties on
- 20:17Speaker 1: the back end, And I'm not saying that it's Dion
- 20:20Speaker 1: Sanders against Jerry Rice, but you're starting caliber NFL player
- 20:25Speaker 1: against starting caliber NFL player, and right now, the defense
- 20:29Speaker 1: is winning most of those battles. If you get to
- 20:31Speaker 1: to preseason games and maybe you know the Terrence Mitchell's,
- 20:35Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler's and Jalen mills Is aren't playing for the
- 20:38Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers, and you're facing you know, Brad Hawkins, who's
- 20:45Speaker 1: the guy they just signed right right in? Jalen Elliot?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Is that it does? I get those rights enough, not
- 20:50Speaker 1: Jalen Elliott. Oh this Jelen Elliot, you got it even
- 20:53Speaker 1: I forgot it. Disrespected me? I did? I did. That's socially,
- 20:56Speaker 1: how much I know who's that? Hey, Matt disrespected me
- 20:59Speaker 1: a little bit? It just a little bit. No, that
- 21:02Speaker 1: doesn't sound right. So like, if you're going again, let's
- 21:05Speaker 1: just say for and I have no idea what Caroline
- 21:07Speaker 1: is gonna do. I don't know what Matt rule plans
- 21:09Speaker 1: on doing in the in the preseason, let's just say
- 21:11Speaker 1: he's not going to play his front line cornerbacks and
- 21:15Speaker 1: he's gonna play backups. You know, they had their first
- 21:18Speaker 1: round pick last year. The kid from South Carolina that
- 21:21Speaker 1: went down with the torn ACL I don't know if
- 21:23Speaker 1: he's going to play in the preseason, right, what's his name? Horn? Yes,
- 21:27Speaker 1: jac Horn? Yes, See he liked him. See we like
- 21:30Speaker 1: we liked him. So maybe maybe he doesn't get any time.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And you're playing against some guy that's not even gonna
- 21:35Speaker 1: be in the league in two weeks and you still
- 21:37Speaker 1: can't get any separation, Well, then it's then it's then
- 21:40Speaker 1: it's the fans will get to see what all the
- 21:42Speaker 1: reports coming out of training camp actually look like. And
- 21:44Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure that there are fans out there
- 21:46Speaker 1: who think that, you know, the media, that we're you know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: blowing getting all hyped up about this and you know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but it's it's pretty consistent. And you know, we all
- 21:54Speaker 1: we usually are our own little pod. Other reporters are
- 21:56Speaker 1: kind of spread out. I mean, you're getting the same information. So,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I mean, this is this is what it's been here
- 22:01Speaker 1: through the first week and however many two days. So
- 22:04Speaker 1: let's go to the phone's real quick though. Eldred, North Carolina. Eldred,
- 22:07Speaker 1: You're on what's up, hey, felloks, how y'all doing today?
- 22:12Speaker 1: All right? So it's kind of like it's been frustrating.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It's been a frustrating few days of watching offensive football,
- 22:18Speaker 1: And I'm not gonna lie told. Yeah, definitely wonder but
- 22:21Speaker 1: I don't pick out a question. You say it's sporadic, now, okay,
- 22:25Speaker 1: don't you think that might be previews of coming to factions?
- 22:28Speaker 1: And she ain't got a real old sea. Yeah, I
- 22:31Speaker 1: don't know what. I wish I knew, I wish I
- 22:34Speaker 1: knew for sure what the problem is. Like, is it
- 22:37Speaker 1: because they don't have an offensive coordinator or a a play color?
- 22:40Speaker 1: Is it because Max's not seeing the field right? Is
- 22:42Speaker 1: it because the receivers aren't getting open? Is it because
- 22:45Speaker 1: the offensive line's not giving them any time? Which I
- 22:47Speaker 1: think has been a problem when they've been the three
- 22:49Speaker 1: days they've been in pads, I think the defensive line
- 22:51Speaker 1: has spent a lot of time in the backfield. Like,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I don't know what the specific problem is, but when
- 22:56Speaker 1: it looks like this, most likely what the answer is
- 22:59Speaker 1: is bill answer from yesterday? Everything, Yeah, yeah, everything. Well,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I'm just wondering because, uh, power, I finally got that.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Mean what you said a couple of weeks ago when
- 23:11Speaker 1: I called you said we canna be at the Carolina
- 23:13Speaker 1: statement by yourself. For some reason, I thought New England
- 23:15Speaker 1: was coming here. I remember you're saying you were going
- 23:20Speaker 1: to the practice and where You're like, are you coming?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Are you coming here? I wished I could, but I
- 23:25Speaker 1: was hoping he was coming here, and I was gonna
- 23:27Speaker 1: do that. But like I said, my concern is that.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And I saw this little thing on about Thordon from
- 23:34Speaker 1: Mac the Thorton a couple of times, and I liked that,
- 23:37Speaker 1: But that listening to y'all man, I'm just wondering. I'm
- 23:40Speaker 1: just got my hopes up and I'm just wondering. I mean, Aldred,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I think you're gonna like Thorton. I mean, I hope
- 23:45Speaker 1: he gets action and gets to play, and you know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: they they were able to get him his feet wet.
- 23:49Speaker 1: But you know, I think there's really some promise there
- 23:52Speaker 1: based on what I've been, you know, pleasantly surprised with
- 23:55Speaker 1: his ability. And I thought today he you know, wasn't
- 23:59Speaker 1: anything special, but he made a catch in eleven on
- 24:01Speaker 1: eleven today. I don't chart this stuff. I don't I
- 24:04Speaker 1: don't like I apologize ahead of time. I don't chart
- 24:07Speaker 1: every single play of every single practice. I don't think
- 24:10Speaker 1: that's really worth the time it's spent to do that.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But that's the first time I can recall him making
- 24:15Speaker 1: a catching in competitive eleven on eleven and it's just progressing, right, Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 1: I agree. Okay, one question this day, resign Harris, which
- 24:23Speaker 1: you think that means for the risk of the backfield
- 24:26Speaker 1: veteran move? Damien Harris, Oh, I know, I mean, I
- 24:32Speaker 1: gotta be honest, I'd be really surprised. I feel like
- 24:34Speaker 1: they just kind of see those guys as temp employees
- 24:37Speaker 1: and they roll them and you know, like they've got
- 24:39Speaker 1: a good depth. The move we saw up here strong
- 24:41Speaker 1: actually starts to get involved a little bit. Today. We've
- 24:43Speaker 1: seen Harris, Kevin Harris involved a bunch time. Montgomery Is
- 24:46Speaker 1: has been involved a bunch. Stevenson's been a little bit,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think because I haven't seen him do much the
- 24:51Speaker 1: last couple of days of practice, but it's hard been
- 24:53Speaker 1: out there in full uniform, taking part in the drills
- 24:55Speaker 1: before practice, but I don't remember the last carry he got,
- 24:59Speaker 1: so I can. I mean, if they resigned Harris, it
- 25:02Speaker 1: would I mean, Damian Harrison would say to me that
- 25:03Speaker 1: maybe they're not as as high on these other guys
- 25:06Speaker 1: that they've gotten. But it's hard to say that already
- 25:08Speaker 1: because you haven't. You just sa up here strong today
- 25:10Speaker 1: for the first time. So based on the fact that
- 25:12Speaker 1: they drafted to what two running backs, uh, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 1: this year, my guess is that they'll they'll probably allow
- 25:19Speaker 1: Harris to you know, explore the market. Thanks Elder. Let's
- 25:23Speaker 1: let's go over to Matt in Ohio. Matt, you're on
- 25:26Speaker 1: what's going on? Hey, guys, how are you doing pretty
- 25:31Speaker 1: good other than having to watch good Uh? Paul, I
- 25:34Speaker 1: read your I read your article last week about Johnny Smith,
- 25:38Speaker 1: which is actually nice to nice to hear that he's
- 25:41Speaker 1: getting more involved in the offense. Um, but I haven't heard.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't hearn anything about Hunter Henry. What
- 25:48Speaker 1: is he doing if he if he heard or no,
- 25:53Speaker 1: He's fine, he's been he's been out there every day.
- 25:55Speaker 1: He's fun. Yep, he's okay, Okay, he looks like Hunter Henry. Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 1: he's he's been fine. Uh. You know, there's there's sort
- 26:02Speaker 1: of a you know, just some of the scuttle butt
- 26:04Speaker 1: in the in the media areas good one scuttle good
- 26:06Speaker 1: one that that doesn't throw me back to like nineteen
- 26:09Speaker 1: sixty two. I mean, you could probably get back to
- 26:10Speaker 1: the seventeen hundreds with the scuttle butt. UM. A lot
- 26:14Speaker 1: of people sort of think that it's been a little
- 26:16Speaker 1: bit better when the two tight ends have been on
- 26:18Speaker 1: the field together, when it's been Henry and Smith, and
- 26:20Speaker 1: I know that there was some questions asked today. I
- 26:23Speaker 1: haven't really seen that. I haven't really noticed any significant
- 26:26Speaker 1: spike in production when one lineup is in over another.
- 26:29Speaker 1: But it's not really my thing. I don't, I don't.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I don't keep track of that a lot. But I
- 26:33Speaker 1: think Henry's been fine. He talked after practice today and
- 26:36Speaker 1: just talked about continue know that all the camp cliches,
- 26:40Speaker 1: stacking days, working to get better. You know, we have
- 26:43Speaker 1: a you know, you know it's a progression. Blah blah
- 26:45Speaker 1: blah blah blah. But yeah, nothing to worry about. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: wouldn't say Matt with with Hunter Henry. I think I
- 26:50Speaker 1: think he's looked just like he did last year. Yeah, thanks,
- 26:52Speaker 1: Matt appreciated. Uh let's let's get one more before uh
- 26:56Speaker 1: we move on speed and Fresno. He spee, what's going on?
- 27:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, thanks again for like as usual, the excellent
- 27:02Speaker 1: coverage last week. It was really good. And also thanks
- 27:07Speaker 1: for not, you know, playing the role of chicken little
- 27:09Speaker 1: and the tempering. Your expressions are concern about the offense,
- 27:13Speaker 1: but the fact that they're not that far along in
- 27:15Speaker 1: the process. I mean, there's still more time. At the
- 27:18Speaker 1: same time, I have a sneaking concern, like we've been
- 27:22Speaker 1: talking about how bad the defense looked towards the end
- 27:24Speaker 1: of last year, and it's gotta be more or less
- 27:26Speaker 1: the same defense, maybe even younger, less experience. Um So
- 27:31Speaker 1: the fact that the offense is struggling against that defense,
- 27:35Speaker 1: isn't that even worse? Well, I mean I gotta give
- 27:39Speaker 1: credit to bar More, to Jude On even a little
- 27:42Speaker 1: bit to godshall believe it or not. I mean, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: think those guys have been winning their matchups, and I
- 27:46Speaker 1: think that's the that's the thing about this defense is
- 27:49Speaker 1: when guys are winning their one on one matchups that
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know, it's tough. And especially if the defense or
- 27:53Speaker 1: the offensive line is trying to learn a new blocking
- 27:56Speaker 1: scheme and you know, move more on the move and
- 27:59Speaker 1: you know so, and also how much does the defense
- 28:02Speaker 1: know what they're trying to do? So, I mean, I
- 28:04Speaker 1: I think your point is taken. But I've been kind
- 28:07Speaker 1: of impressed with the defense. And it's hard to say
- 28:09Speaker 1: because the offense hasn't really done anything, and it's hard
- 28:11Speaker 1: to say, I really want to see the defense against
- 28:14Speaker 1: Carolina against the Giants and really see what they look like. Um,
- 28:18Speaker 1: because it's training camp and it's like all the disclaimers
- 28:20Speaker 1: we've been talking about. It's like as much you don't
- 28:22Speaker 1: want to kill the offense and you don't want to
- 28:24Speaker 1: like make the defense out to be the eighty five Bears,
- 28:26Speaker 1: But you know, that's that's just kind of how it's
- 28:28Speaker 1: looked in this particular start to training camp. I guess
- 28:32Speaker 1: is that your thought, Paul, that maybe, um, the defense
- 28:35Speaker 1: is looking decent relative to expectations compared to the end
- 28:40Speaker 1: the last year. Um, yeah, I don't. I don't really
- 28:47Speaker 1: have much feel for how the defense has looked. I haven't,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I think, and I think I may made this comment
- 28:52Speaker 1: on Tuesday. I would say consistently the defensive front has
- 28:56Speaker 1: controlled the offensive front. Um, So that's that's looked better.
- 28:59Speaker 1: If if you want to say, like, well, they Patriots
- 29:01Speaker 1: having a hard time stop in the run, maybe the
- 29:03Speaker 1: run defense is improved. Maybe that's something that can can
- 29:06Speaker 1: carry over based on what we've seen. Um, but yeah,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I don't have much faith in the personnel now. I
- 29:12Speaker 1: need to see them play against Josh Allen and you
- 29:15Speaker 1: know Tah and Tyree Hill and I mean all the
- 29:17Speaker 1: challenges that are coming up. It's just it's hard to
- 29:19Speaker 1: get overly pumped when it's it's just kind of been
- 29:22Speaker 1: the new offense that that's just been so clunky. Yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 1: put it. Maybe Fred that's the game. I mean, he
- 29:31Speaker 1: made a play today and like eleven on eleven when
- 29:33Speaker 1: he blew up the guard. Um, I think, yeah, I
- 29:37Speaker 1: think he blew right by Cole Strange and he uh
- 29:39Speaker 1: he ended up making a tackle on a running play
- 29:41Speaker 1: which you really see tackles um in training camp. And
- 29:44Speaker 1: he he ended up dumping Damien Harris after a probably
- 29:48Speaker 1: for like a two yard loss. All right, all right, Gonch,
- 29:53Speaker 1: thanks a good one. Thanks all right, Well, let's welcome
- 29:56Speaker 1: in Alex. Alex now Patrian move Oh yeah, absolutely. She
- 30:00Speaker 1: walks in with a Chick fil a sandwich bag? Was
- 30:02Speaker 1: that the media meal? We're back to chick fil A? Yeah,
- 30:05Speaker 1: it's just Chick fil a sandwiches, no fries or anything, cookies,
- 30:09Speaker 1: I think, but I heard Stacy whisper to one of
- 30:12Speaker 1: the pr oh In turns, Hey the chick fil as here.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I was finishing up an interview with Christian right up. So,
- 30:23Speaker 1: so what's going on for you today, Alex? You were?
- 30:25Speaker 1: I mean, I seemed like there was a lot going
- 30:26Speaker 1: on down there on the field, Like too much going
- 30:28Speaker 1: out on the field. We had a fourteen year old
- 30:30Speaker 1: little kid asking Bill questions and like really really rolled
- 30:34Speaker 1: out the red carpet for this kid. I don't know
- 30:37Speaker 1: quite who he is. Tamara's on that story, but um,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I guess he got a nice tour of the stadium.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I guess mister Kraft was parading him around. He got
- 30:47Speaker 1: a helicopter ride. It seemed like the helicopter took off
- 30:50Speaker 1: right after No, I think he missed that that ride.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But um, he got to do stuff with Kendrick. I
- 30:54Speaker 1: think he was interviewing everyone today. We had a birthday.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I had to personally wait for an interview with David
- 31:00Speaker 1: Andrews that was scheduled ahead of time so this kid
- 31:03Speaker 1: could talk to him. Well, I mean, God, bless him.
- 31:06Speaker 1: You got you got he got the like inaugurable ceremonial
- 31:10Speaker 1: first question of the Belichick press conference. Everyone's like, oh,
- 31:12Speaker 1: this is this is great. Then he asked another question
- 31:15Speaker 1: like Okay, well we're running late here, buddy, we got
- 31:20Speaker 1: to keep You can tell Bill's face like he was
- 31:22Speaker 1: smiling for way too long. It's like might be his muscles,
- 31:25Speaker 1: they're they're they're out of shape for the amount of
- 31:27Speaker 1: time he had to hold it for. Uh. Kendrick Bourne
- 31:30Speaker 1: as well. Jack Bourne had a birthday. His wife brought
- 31:32Speaker 1: some balloons that all the kids just instantly let them
- 31:36Speaker 1: go the second they were holding them out of the field,
- 31:38Speaker 1: so and then they got sucked up by the helicopter.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Imagine tragedy today Kendrick Bourne's balloon's final destination. That would
- 31:46Speaker 1: be very but it was. It was quite funny to
- 31:48Speaker 1: just see the KB eighty four just floating away. I
- 31:51Speaker 1: hope someone got a picture of that. That's a video
- 31:54Speaker 1: that seems pretty good. Anything on the football field and
- 31:57Speaker 1: the practice today that that jumped out to you as
- 32:00Speaker 1: you were kind of watching things down there. Yeah, you
- 32:02Speaker 1: guys are kind of touching a little on I think
- 32:04Speaker 1: the d line has definitely pleasantly surprised me. God Chaw
- 32:07Speaker 1: included for sure, Barmore looks fantastic in terms of like
- 32:11Speaker 1: the secondary and stuff, though, I mean Jalen Mills I
- 32:14Speaker 1: think said it himself at the end of practice. At
- 32:16Speaker 1: this point, they kind of know what's getting thrown at them,
- 32:19Speaker 1: so it's easier for them to go out and light
- 32:21Speaker 1: it up. So I don't know, I'm just ready for
- 32:24Speaker 1: Caroline to come in and see how they actually look
- 32:26Speaker 1: against other people that aren't Patriots. Yeah. Yeah, me too.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I mean that was some of the most fun practices
- 32:31Speaker 1: last year with the Giants. I think that breaks up
- 32:34Speaker 1: the monotony a little bit. And Philly, it's just it's
- 32:36Speaker 1: it's a new challenge for you. I mean, we know
- 32:38Speaker 1: the Giants, well, they're not practicing its Giants, but I
- 32:40Speaker 1: mean a quarterback competition between you know, between Darnold and
- 32:43Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield that you know that they're going to be
- 32:46Speaker 1: coming out trying to execute and to give these guys
- 32:49Speaker 1: an opportunity to compete. So, I mean, I think it's
- 32:52Speaker 1: it's just a good thing for the defense to face
- 32:54Speaker 1: guys that, you know, quarterbacks who are coming in here
- 32:56Speaker 1: really trying to put the effort in and you know
- 32:59Speaker 1: we'll have those two practice is that next week, I
- 33:01Speaker 1: move we can get in a little bit later about
- 33:02Speaker 1: you know what we might be looking because it seems
- 33:05Speaker 1: like you're going to have a two day break potentially
- 33:08Speaker 1: with Saturday and Sunday off, Maybe maybe they think about
- 33:10Speaker 1: reevaluating some things. M I don't want to say, oh
- 33:13Speaker 1: the whole we got to blow up these changes we're doing,
- 33:16Speaker 1: but also just some some other players that have been,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, having having good practices that maybe deserve a
- 33:21Speaker 1: little bit more of a shot. You know, anybody Paul
- 33:25Speaker 1: to you of those guys that you think you'd like
- 33:27Speaker 1: to see a little bit more of involved with those
- 33:30Speaker 1: top high end reps, Well, I mean Taekwon Thornton would
- 33:34Speaker 1: definitely be a guy that I want to see continuing
- 33:36Speaker 1: to work with frontline players U in the secondary. I
- 33:40Speaker 1: think there's a lot of options there. I think you
- 33:42Speaker 1: talk about like Bledsoe, we talked about him early in camp.
- 33:45Speaker 1: You know, can he sort of you know, I think
- 33:47Speaker 1: as the veterans have come back, you know, he hasn't
- 33:51Speaker 1: gotten as many reps as you know he was prior
- 33:54Speaker 1: to that. Jonathan Jones has come back and sort of
- 33:58Speaker 1: sort of moved guys around a little. You haven't seen
- 34:00Speaker 1: as much Sean Wade as you had been with you know,
- 34:03Speaker 1: the slots. So you know, there's some of those young
- 34:06Speaker 1: guys that I'm I'm a little bit you know, curious about.
- 34:09Speaker 1: But really, when when you start practicing against another team,
- 34:14Speaker 1: I want to see the you know, the front line
- 34:17Speaker 1: guys going against front line guys for the other team.
- 34:19Speaker 1: So you make a great point about Darnold and Mayfield.
- 34:23Speaker 1: That should give the Patriots secondary a chance to see
- 34:25Speaker 1: two NFL guys. Now, you could say they both stink,
- 34:28Speaker 1: and you probably wouldn't be wrong, but there are two
- 34:31Speaker 1: NFL guys who have started several games. It's better to
- 34:34Speaker 1: go against those guys than some rookie sixth round pick
- 34:37Speaker 1: who's trying to learn how to play and he's just
- 34:39Speaker 1: trying to get the playoff, whereas Mayfield. You know, it's
- 34:43Speaker 1: kind of like when you when you played the Jets
- 34:46Speaker 1: a couple of years ago and you ended up getting
- 34:47Speaker 1: stuck in that game, and when Joe Flacco just ends
- 34:49Speaker 1: up playing and he'll light you up because he's an
- 34:51Speaker 1: NFL player, he knows how to play. And you know,
- 34:54Speaker 1: if you if you if you you know you miss
- 34:56Speaker 1: your coverage or whatever he's gonna You know, Flacco had
- 34:58Speaker 1: some moments last year in Philly. You remember at practice,
- 35:01Speaker 1: want to go into the bathroom, you know, in front
- 35:04Speaker 1: of us, not well to the bathroom, that was situation,
- 35:08Speaker 1: situated us directly next to the port. That didn't come
- 35:11Speaker 1: out properly. Hey, Joe, let's going on. It's going quite
- 35:15Speaker 1: the time. You saw him after the AFC Championship game,
- 35:17Speaker 1: we talked about a Delaware's Delaware visit against Hey, congratulations,
- 35:23Speaker 1: my son's first every game, Joe Flacco. Let's uh, let's
- 35:26Speaker 1: jump over to the phones and uh say hello to
- 35:28Speaker 1: William from Philadelphia? What's up Williams? Will him and Phillim
- 35:31Speaker 1: Willham and Philam? Sorry, get your name right? What's going on?
- 35:35Speaker 1: And ladies, that's how y'all doing good? Are you okay?
- 35:40Speaker 1: I'm good. Just listening to Mike talk about how it's
- 35:43Speaker 1: squash street and just watching hat offense trying to put
- 35:46Speaker 1: it together whennot and that's my reason for Cam and
- 35:50Speaker 1: so what is um? At one point when do you
- 35:57Speaker 1: just say that ain't Brooke watching you? Might I just
- 35:59Speaker 1: go back to the old offense. Mac macus frustrated he's
- 36:04Speaker 1: having a hard time. I guess whatever, and or if
- 36:06Speaker 1: his receivers not being what they need to be at
- 36:08Speaker 1: or or just run and trying to run this couchan
- 36:11Speaker 1: in hand play and whatnot. So why not just go
- 36:14Speaker 1: back to the old just go ben to it old way.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I mean, well, I don't understand, you know what I mean?
- 36:18Speaker 1: Who then implements the old offense? Though? What if it's
- 36:21Speaker 1: a thing where like Josh McDaniels took all the keys
- 36:23Speaker 1: to the castle with him and no one really knows
- 36:25Speaker 1: what's going on. That's part of it, And what message
- 36:27Speaker 1: does this send to the team too, Like, hey, guys,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I know we all came into training, can't think of
- 36:31Speaker 1: this is what we're gonna do. But it's not working,
- 36:33Speaker 1: so we're gonna I also wanted our position. I also
- 36:35Speaker 1: wonder how much of the struggles are because of the
- 36:37Speaker 1: system or just because you know, they're just not executing.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, that's what Mac was saying, was like,
- 36:44Speaker 1: you know, it's our job to execute and we're not executing.
- 36:47Speaker 1: So he was putting it it sounded like from his
- 36:49Speaker 1: press conference on them not executing it, Yeah, and less
- 36:53Speaker 1: one as he should. He put it on the coaches. Yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 1: we got a problem, right, So just two more questions
- 37:02Speaker 1: and that's so, so what so when is the next
- 37:06Speaker 1: practice for him? Tomorrow night? But it's going to be
- 37:09Speaker 1: in the stadium, and it seems like it's going to
- 37:11Speaker 1: be more about the game day operations, so like this
- 37:15Speaker 1: is what tunnel we come out, this is where we
- 37:17Speaker 1: stand there in the national anthem during halftime, we go here,
- 37:19Speaker 1: like all those kind of things. So it's it's not
- 37:21Speaker 1: even really a practice as much as it is like
- 37:23Speaker 1: kind of a dry run of a game day. I think,
- 37:26Speaker 1: I mean, there might be some you know, drills. I'm
- 37:28Speaker 1: sure they'll do a little bit of stuff, but um,
- 37:30Speaker 1: I think last year it was it was extremely uneventful.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So I mean, I'm not really expecting to learn anything
- 37:35Speaker 1: tomorrow night. And that's what you're kind of looking at
- 37:37Speaker 1: is like you're gonna have to sit on this practice
- 37:39Speaker 1: for the next three days before they get back out
- 37:41Speaker 1: there on Monday and see what changes they make. Right, okay, um,
- 37:46Speaker 1: and I had another one. I had two more, keep
- 37:50Speaker 1: them coming, but you can't just always have two more
- 37:53Speaker 1: at one point. You gotta be at the last one.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Let's go okay um um, So when when would they
- 38:02Speaker 1: I guess after preseason done, you'll know what his jersey
- 38:05Speaker 1: number will be, because I just want to support him
- 38:07Speaker 1: and get his jersey. I think when the preseason games come, yeah,
- 38:11Speaker 1: that they yeah, they won't be on the preseason field
- 38:14Speaker 1: wearing number fifty one for a wide receiver. So next
- 38:17Speaker 1: week I would say they we'll start to see the
- 38:19Speaker 1: new numbers. Keep an eye out for Patriots Twitter. I'm
- 38:22Speaker 1: sure we'll have an announcement or some type of graphics,
- 38:24Speaker 1: absolute graphics, a hype video that one they left in
- 38:31Speaker 1: the budget. If you guys want me to take care
- 38:33Speaker 1: of that one. I'm a good hype man for this.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Flora's gonna be number good, good number talk, Thanks Willie,
- 38:39Speaker 1: appreciate it right now? Uh? That is that is good?
- 38:43Speaker 1: That we'll see, we'll see I mean I think you know.
- 38:44Speaker 1: I mean, Paul, you have been you have to admit
- 38:46Speaker 1: you've been bumped by number fifty three returning punts. Uh right, No,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I think he I said he is it just the
- 38:53Speaker 1: number with Jones? What does he look like? Stouter like?
- 38:57Speaker 1: He's a small like Marcus Jones is a little square.
- 38:59Speaker 1: He's like a little tangle and he looks like a
- 39:01Speaker 1: rectangle and I think it's because he's wearing favorite right,
- 39:03Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he's gonna spike like something in
- 39:05Speaker 1: the thirties and like, yeah, looks ten times better. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 1: a nice little player. So we as you probably heard
- 39:11Speaker 1: Tamara checked in now, Tamara looks like you saw Alex
- 39:13Speaker 1: had grabbed Chick fil A and then you were like,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I gotta go get that. You weren't quite did you
- 39:18Speaker 1: do that? Did you see that sandwich and go? That's
- 39:21Speaker 1: an even more veteran move. We're both walking. I was
- 39:23Speaker 1: co from ridiculously proud. She was coming from the field
- 39:27Speaker 1: and we were both walking to radio at the same time.
- 39:29Speaker 1: She saw my sandwich, and it's like my niece, my wing,
- 39:33Speaker 1: Like when you can get it free, you get it,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you go now, and like the feet writers will take
- 39:37Speaker 1: like two sandwiches a piece, and then by the time
- 39:39Speaker 1: we get up there, it's nothing guilty. That was me
- 39:41Speaker 1: and Paul wine a Chick fil at last week and
- 39:43Speaker 1: we both kind of have won't grab one, trying to
- 39:45Speaker 1: be responsible, was sitting eating it. You brought me a
- 39:49Speaker 1: second one. I saw Mike grab another, and I had
- 39:52Speaker 1: already finished my first one, so I was like, all
- 39:53Speaker 1: right on my sandwich for the walk home. I hate,
- 39:56Speaker 1: I hate to waste food. I can't. I can't love
- 39:58Speaker 1: that to handle so U but to marry I grilled,
- 40:01Speaker 1: Alex didn't really griller. But what did you see today?
- 40:04Speaker 1: What were you up to? Well, you know, we talked
- 40:05Speaker 1: a little bit about our our junior reporter who was
- 40:07Speaker 1: here getting getting the red carpet rolled out for him.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Was that your primary primary? Yeah? Yeah, I felt like
- 40:13Speaker 1: my assignment today was our junior reporter, not our NBC's
- 40:17Speaker 1: junior reporter. Um. Just following him around, and it was
- 40:21Speaker 1: kind of like looking at younger me, but obviously way
- 40:24Speaker 1: younger me, because he's like thirteen or fourteen, um, and
- 40:27Speaker 1: just you know, picking his brain you've been seeing you
- 40:30Speaker 1: know what he saw I practice? So that was pretty interesting.
- 40:33Speaker 1: And then also do you think the offense was good today? Umballs? Yeah, softballs, softballs.
- 40:39Speaker 1: But I was honestly impressed by him leading off in
- 40:42Speaker 1: Bill Balichick's press conference today. I mean I find it,
- 40:44Speaker 1: I mean who I find it? Intimidate and ask that
- 40:46Speaker 1: guy question exactly and to get a smile, Yeah, a
- 40:49Speaker 1: few smiles. It was great. What anything stick out to
- 40:52Speaker 1: you today on the field? Catch your eye guys plays,
- 40:55Speaker 1: what what do you think impression coming off here? I'm
- 40:59Speaker 1: just I don't I don't know how to Like I
- 41:04Speaker 1: feel like when we were when I heard you talking
- 41:06Speaker 1: as I walked in, and you were like, you know,
- 41:09Speaker 1: we have to be patient with the offense, and I'm
- 41:12Speaker 1: installing it. I'm thinking about when you take a puzzle
- 41:15Speaker 1: out of a box, especially like a big puzzle, like
- 41:18Speaker 1: three hundred piece puzzle, and it's like you obviously see
- 41:22Speaker 1: what the end goal is going to be or should be,
- 41:25Speaker 1: but the process of getting all those pieces put together
- 41:28Speaker 1: it takes time. I think that's a great analogy, and
- 41:31Speaker 1: that's like, I guess where my hope is residing is
- 41:34Speaker 1: that maybe they're putting together this little section and this
- 41:37Speaker 1: little section and this little section, and that it's something
- 41:40Speaker 1: right and then at some point it's all going to
- 41:42Speaker 1: kind of come together and make sense. Yeah, where it's
- 41:45Speaker 1: like you know, you might have you might do a section.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Then you know, maybe your sibling might come and do
- 41:49Speaker 1: a section. Joe Judge comes over as a secon map,
- 41:52Speaker 1: patricis just doing a section. Yeah, oh god, or or
- 41:55Speaker 1: or as Bill Belichick said, I think it was yesterday,
- 41:58Speaker 1: you know, we're installing this piece of the offense today,
- 42:01Speaker 1: than this piece of the offense tomorrow, this piece the
- 42:03Speaker 1: next day, and then in the preseason game we'll see
- 42:07Speaker 1: what works and what doesn't, or what needs to be
- 42:08Speaker 1: tweaked and what doesn't. So I guess just the growing
- 42:13Speaker 1: and the putting, the installation processes, it's not that great.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Let's jump over. We got a bunch of emails, people
- 42:18Speaker 1: writing in. Of course, I hope we're not making anyone,
- 42:21Speaker 1: you know, jump off the bridge about this situation, because
- 42:24Speaker 1: I mean we are just a week and a day
- 42:26Speaker 1: in so far, very early. No jumping off bridges. People
- 42:29Speaker 1: love you, Yeah, Joey. Joey writes, and he just said,
- 42:31Speaker 1: for the past week, I've been hearing. How all I've
- 42:33Speaker 1: been hearing is how bad the offense is. Do you
- 42:35Speaker 1: guys feel they're trying too hard to find their identity
- 42:38Speaker 1: and the coaches are forcing the Patriots to do something
- 42:40Speaker 1: that's not the Patriot way. I think the problem is
- 42:42Speaker 1: that you have a great head coach with a defensive mind,
- 42:44Speaker 1: Matt Patricia with a defensive mind, and Joe Judge with
- 42:46Speaker 1: really no experiences QB coach offensive coach. It's like the
- 42:49Speaker 1: blind leading the blind. In my opinion, why not get
- 42:52Speaker 1: an OC outside of Foxborough if any they want to
- 42:57Speaker 1: jump on that one. I don't think that's I mean,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I've been very critical of the plan, Like, I don't
- 43:02Speaker 1: think the plan makes a lot of sense. I just
- 43:04Speaker 1: don't think that based on what I've watched, the plan
- 43:07Speaker 1: is the problem right now. I think it could be.
- 43:09Speaker 1: But when you're scripting plays and you know you're I mean,
- 43:12Speaker 1: you go into every practice knowing what you're gonna do,
- 43:14Speaker 1: Like it's not a secret as to what they're gonna do.
- 43:16Speaker 1: And I do think that Tamari's point that I think
- 43:18Speaker 1: Jalen Mills said about, you know, like the defense is
- 43:22Speaker 1: kind of squatting on some routes at this point too.
- 43:23Speaker 1: They kind of know what's coming to when it's it's hard.
- 43:27Speaker 1: It's human nature. You're supposed to play it straight, but
- 43:30Speaker 1: you know what's coming at some point too. So I
- 43:32Speaker 1: think that's part of the trouble getting open. But when
- 43:36Speaker 1: you go into a practice knowing what you're gonna do,
- 43:40Speaker 1: it's not a bad plan. It's not like, oh, we
- 43:42Speaker 1: shouldn't have done that at practice today, We should have
- 43:44Speaker 1: done this at practice day. You go into a game
- 43:46Speaker 1: and you have a bad game plan. That's on you know,
- 43:48Speaker 1: that's on the coaching, But in practice, you're trying to
- 43:50Speaker 1: run your base plays. They're having a hard time running
- 43:52Speaker 1: plays right now. I don't think it's because of a
- 43:55Speaker 1: new system, And I don't think it's because you know,
- 43:58Speaker 1: Joe Judge and Mapatrish, you know, gifted offensive minds. Yeah,
- 44:02Speaker 1: and the stuff with like at the line of scrimmage,
- 44:04Speaker 1: that's that's very simple stuff. And the old line is
- 44:07Speaker 1: seems like they're really having a hard time and that's
- 44:09Speaker 1: just one on one. Yeah, yeah, just losing losing the
- 44:14Speaker 1: physical the blue shirted lineman to beating the white shirted linement.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I think this is like a prime example of when
- 44:20Speaker 1: you know, you hear Bill Belichick and the players say
- 44:22Speaker 1: we're focusing on the fundamentals, It's like, yeah, they have
- 44:25Speaker 1: to get these fundamentals together in order for these plays
- 44:28Speaker 1: to be able to be executed correctly. And I think
- 44:30Speaker 1: like that's the major issue right now, is the musical
- 44:33Speaker 1: chairs and the trenches. Yeah, it's it's a struggle right now.
- 44:38Speaker 1: It is. Well, let's let's flop over to the defensive
- 44:40Speaker 1: side of the ball. Matt and Devin right, Devin uk,
- 44:43Speaker 1: I should say rights in uh, asking about the safeties,
- 44:46Speaker 1: do you think they'll be game game plan dependent? I mean,
- 44:48Speaker 1: of course they always are, but as in, if they're
- 44:50Speaker 1: playing a run team like Tennessee, it might be more
- 44:52Speaker 1: Dugger and full Phillips. If more past heavy like Kansas City,
- 44:55Speaker 1: maybe sorry, I said Dugger and Peppers. If more past
- 44:58Speaker 1: heavy like Kansas City, more mccordy and Phillips. I wonder
- 45:01Speaker 1: if they're trying to offset the lack of defensive talent
- 45:04Speaker 1: by being more game plan oriented. I don't really think
- 45:06Speaker 1: they can get more game plan oriented, but I kind
- 45:09Speaker 1: of like how you're thinking. And it was something I
- 45:10Speaker 1: wrote about a couple days ago and asked Bill Belichick
- 45:12Speaker 1: about you know, Patrick Chung was here at practice early on,
- 45:15Speaker 1: and you know, back in the day you had one
- 45:17Speaker 1: kind of in the box safety like that, and now
- 45:19Speaker 1: you've got kind of four, I mean four of these
- 45:21Speaker 1: guys if you want to include bledsoe of guys, and
- 45:24Speaker 1: even Bill said, we'll try to figure out a way
- 45:26Speaker 1: to get them all. I mean, I kind of I
- 45:27Speaker 1: kind of like you know what Matt is saying here
- 45:29Speaker 1: of maybe that could be a potential way of you know,
- 45:32Speaker 1: some weeks it's a little bit more of this guy game,
- 45:35Speaker 1: and I think we've seen that kind of across the
- 45:37Speaker 1: board with you know, other certain game plan elements of
- 45:39Speaker 1: the team. So I don't know we'll see I mean,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I haven't really seen the safeties pop as much. You know,
- 45:44Speaker 1: Peppers has been out there, wasn't out there yesterday. I
- 45:46Speaker 1: got back out there today. They haven't really been super involved,
- 45:49Speaker 1: and it's it's I wouldn't say I've seen like seeing
- 45:52Speaker 1: Dugger get picked on a little bit, but otherwise I
- 45:56Speaker 1: don't know that it's hard to tell with those guys.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I think the defensive front has been the one that
- 45:59Speaker 1: have kind of carried things. Any of the safeties that
- 46:02Speaker 1: have stood out to you guys with like Bledsoe or
- 46:06Speaker 1: so those first few days. Even Sean Wade was decent
- 46:10Speaker 1: when he was getting reps, but now that he's not,
- 46:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I haven't I wasn't able to really
- 46:15Speaker 1: watch too much of today though with everything going on
- 46:17Speaker 1: off the field. Yeah, it was busy. Dexter and Stana
- 46:21Speaker 1: Rosa writing in and let's let's all get on the
- 46:23Speaker 1: Christian Barmore hype train because I think we need some
- 46:25Speaker 1: some more positive energy here. My never running positive outlook
- 46:27Speaker 1: on the Patriots has me drooling over Christian Barmore. It
- 46:30Speaker 1: got me thinking if he ends up being in the
- 46:32Speaker 1: running for defensive MVP, it will not only be the
- 46:35Speaker 1: great thing for the Patriots, it will also be an
- 46:37Speaker 1: incredible gift for radio as a whole. His interviews are
- 46:39Speaker 1: so endearing and funny in a great way. I love
- 46:41Speaker 1: how fast he talks, how he loved how it seems
- 46:43Speaker 1: to be just a young rock kid who realized he
- 46:46Speaker 1: can dominate the game. It's refreshing, and I cannot get
- 46:48Speaker 1: enough of Barmore rooting for an MVP type season for
- 46:52Speaker 1: the kid. Thank you all. I second that the press
- 46:55Speaker 1: conference yesterday. I literally went to Mike's desk and I
- 46:58Speaker 1: was like, did you hear what he said when he asked, like,
- 47:01Speaker 1: you know, how does it feel picking on your teammates,
- 47:03Speaker 1: you know, when you're doing one on once? And he
- 47:05Speaker 1: was like, well, he laughed first, and then he said
- 47:09Speaker 1: everyone's feeling pain. And I was like, that was a
- 47:12Speaker 1: nice way to put it. Like he's not trying to
- 47:14Speaker 1: make it like his teammates feel his wrath or pain,
- 47:18Speaker 1: but you know what they're all feeling it. I just
- 47:20Speaker 1: got to chat with him and his mom. I interviewed
- 47:22Speaker 1: him for the twenty Questions today and I was cracking up.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Every day when I do those, I'm like, oh, this
- 47:27Speaker 1: one's my favorite one. This one's my favorite one. But
- 47:29Speaker 1: I thought Nelson Aguilar yesterday was gonna be hard to beat.
- 47:31Speaker 1: But Barmore today and his mother, like interjecting after all
- 47:35Speaker 1: of his answers was just hilarious, like I feel like
- 47:38Speaker 1: a comedy troupe, was like, and I'm just envisioning my
- 47:41Speaker 1: mother doing that to me. But I asked him, I
- 47:44Speaker 1: haven't written this yet, but sneak preview for our listeners.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I asked him, what's something that people are like really
- 47:49Speaker 1: surprised to learn about you? And he was talking about
- 47:51Speaker 1: his dance moves and how well he can dance, and
- 47:53Speaker 1: his mom is in the background cracking up like this child, like,
- 47:57Speaker 1: oh my god. She I asked him about like Philly
- 48:00Speaker 1: cheese steaks because he's a Philly guy, and she answers
- 48:03Speaker 1: for him, like you better not say this place, you
- 48:05Speaker 1: better say that. She was coming up to me after.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Don't let anyone tell you anything different. This is the
- 48:09Speaker 1: place you're going or what I was like, I love
- 48:10Speaker 1: you too. You need a show. Wait we needed that
- 48:14Speaker 1: super commercials those Oh right, that's I mean, if he
- 48:18Speaker 1: gets a defensive MVP, maybe I'll be well in the running.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I need you, I need you to love phill Us
- 48:22Speaker 1: in on what that place is because we could have
- 48:24Speaker 1: used that last year when we were in Philly, Hilly.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I know we kind of had a bad was that
- 48:28Speaker 1: we had an average average, We kind of were, we
- 48:30Speaker 1: were weaving and through all the Philadelphia we saw a spot.
- 48:33Speaker 1: I think we just like it was okay, but I
- 48:34Speaker 1: think Christian Barma Boogie Cheese Steaks. We didn't know it
- 48:37Speaker 1: was bougie and it was so big. We need authentic,
- 48:40Speaker 1: we need we need next time. It was big, it
- 48:43Speaker 1: was very filling. It will say that I was. I
- 48:45Speaker 1: didn't I couldn't finish it. That's a god my story
- 48:47Speaker 1: this evening to see what else and Barma recommends. I think, um,
- 48:51Speaker 1: when I was listening to you guys, maybe like four
- 48:55Speaker 1: days ago, someone said like, what's your way too early?
- 48:57Speaker 1: Like Pro Bowl pick? Yeah? I think he be it.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I think so, I mean, and it's just every every day.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I mean, I thought today wasn't. He wasn't quite as
- 49:04Speaker 1: crazy dominant some of the I was wondering if maybe
- 49:06Speaker 1: some of the offensive lineman hurd him. Yes, I thought
- 49:09Speaker 1: I thought he was neutral. I thought it when you
- 49:11Speaker 1: m stone walled him a couple of times, and I
- 49:13Speaker 1: thought James Vern's had a good rep against him, kind
- 49:15Speaker 1: of pushed him wide. Yeah, around the back of the quarterback,
- 49:18Speaker 1: which is the last place you want to be. But
- 49:20Speaker 1: that's the other thing too with him is um Sometimes,
- 49:24Speaker 1: especially the interior guys and those one on one drills,
- 49:26Speaker 1: that's not always great. Um. You know, for tough interior guys,
- 49:30Speaker 1: the one on one it's it's not quite the same.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Sometimes those guys just want to collapse the pocket. You know,
- 49:35Speaker 1: they're not necessarily looking to beat you know, beaten with
- 49:38Speaker 1: a quick you know, swim mover. And but what I mean,
- 49:40Speaker 1: I will say he's been he's just he's he's a
- 49:43Speaker 1: ball of energy and he's almost always a handful for
- 49:46Speaker 1: everybody who's got to block him. And as as the
- 49:49Speaker 1: email laid out, I mean, it's just a lot of
- 49:51Speaker 1: fun to listen to. Uh, let's jump, We're gonna go
- 49:53Speaker 1: back to back. North Carolina calls let's let's start a
- 49:56Speaker 1: break here guy. Oh you know, let's let's spang. He's
- 49:57Speaker 1: two out? All right, all right, I know your your pizzas,
- 49:59Speaker 1: look at you right in the face, but let's go
- 50:01Speaker 1: to talk. I'm the one who has pizza. Pizza. Hey, Todd,
- 50:05Speaker 1: what's going on? Just driving getting a little frustrated with
- 50:09Speaker 1: traffic and you know senior moments. So so did you
- 50:14Speaker 1: say senior moments? How old are you? Todd? Yeah, well,
- 50:17Speaker 1: I'm a senior in high school. After watching the practice
- 50:22Speaker 1: so far, is there anybody that you think might be
- 50:24Speaker 1: a surprise cut? I know that early on, before we
- 50:27Speaker 1: really got into this, we actually kind of said that,
- 50:30Speaker 1: you know, maybe Myers, because there's a lot of depth
- 50:33Speaker 1: in the in the receiving corps and stuff like that.
- 50:36Speaker 1: But who would be your surprise cut right now? After
- 50:39Speaker 1: watching a bit of it? Maybe when or when you
- 50:42Speaker 1: or her on, like, who do you think could be
- 50:45Speaker 1: a surprise cut going into the season? I would say
- 50:48Speaker 1: it's tough to tell. I mean you don't really see
- 50:51Speaker 1: like a guy that you're really hyped about that hasn't
- 50:53Speaker 1: begun a ton of action. But I think you mentioned
- 50:55Speaker 1: on when you I think it's just you know, based
- 50:57Speaker 1: on what they're doing and if they continue to try
- 50:59Speaker 1: to run this team where you need athletic offensive linemen.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to see him getting cut. He
- 51:03Speaker 1: ain't getting cut, but you know, I could see him
- 51:05Speaker 1: getting pushed by by Hambone a little bit. I mean
- 51:08Speaker 1: he could, um, but I don't see him getting cut.
- 51:12Speaker 1: It's hard like that. The whole surprise cut thing is
- 51:14Speaker 1: so hard. Jacoby Myers is not getting cut. I mean,
- 51:17Speaker 1: if he's not part of the team this year, he's
- 51:18Speaker 1: gonna get traded. They're not just gonna cut a guy
- 51:21Speaker 1: um with that ability. Um, like a surprise cut. I
- 51:27Speaker 1: mean maybe Cameron mcron Not that that's a surprise really,
- 51:30Speaker 1: but it's everybody's been kind of hyping him up, and
- 51:31Speaker 1: I says, the guy who's not guys those guys don't
- 51:34Speaker 1: make any money either, So like, what's the point. I
- 51:37Speaker 1: don't know. It's it's hard to really pinpoint one. I'm
- 51:40Speaker 1: gonna go with Jonathan Jones, but I don't think he's
- 51:42Speaker 1: getting cut either. I'm just saying, you know, it's a
- 51:45Speaker 1: guy they have, they have well, they have a little
- 51:48Speaker 1: they have a little depth, like sort of those smallish
- 51:52Speaker 1: corners slash safety's like Miles Bryant, you know, Miles Bryant, Like,
- 51:56Speaker 1: I don't know, do they think anything of Josh Bledsoe,
- 51:59Speaker 1: Sean Wade Like these guys, they're gonna have these other
- 52:01Speaker 1: Marcus Jones in the mix too, kind of similar like
- 52:04Speaker 1: Jack Jones too. You know, if you have these smaller
- 52:06Speaker 1: corners that can play inside and maybe play some safety,
- 52:10Speaker 1: maybe you don't need a guy that's making the money
- 52:13Speaker 1: that Jonathan Jones. I don't think he's gonna get cut.
- 52:15Speaker 1: That's why it would be a surprise. Thanks appreciated. H
- 52:18Speaker 1: Let's go to Sam. Sam. We're getting angry here, so
- 52:20Speaker 1: so make it a good one. I certainly am. You
- 52:25Speaker 1: see you guys there. Yeah, okay, Um, first off, I
- 52:29Speaker 1: want to say I agree with alec one. Christian Balbmore
- 52:32Speaker 1: is doing a hurly Pro Bowl to legs. Oh wait,
- 52:35Speaker 1: that was I said that? Oh Tamara, I'm sorry I
- 52:39Speaker 1: started to show late because I'm at work. It's okay,
- 52:41Speaker 1: I just heard a big I'm sorry, but anyway, Um,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I just wanted to ask the offense is struggling, it's
- 52:47Speaker 1: so bad in the preseason. Could he see that the
- 52:49Speaker 1: defense is better than we throw or or are they
- 52:53Speaker 1: just bad? I mean, I'll jump on this one and
- 52:57Speaker 1: thanks Sam, appreciate it. Uh. You know, I have to
- 53:00Speaker 1: the defense some credit, but I'm not sure I can
- 53:02Speaker 1: give them like overwhelming credit to you know, at this point,
- 53:04Speaker 1: until I see them go out against other offenses, especially
- 53:08Speaker 1: you know, how do they do against like we mentioned
- 53:10Speaker 1: the Panthers in a couple of weeks. I think that'll
- 53:12Speaker 1: be a little bit more telling. But I have to
- 53:14Speaker 1: say I'm impressed, and I think you have to be
- 53:16Speaker 1: excited anytime there are players on the defensive front that
- 53:19Speaker 1: are dominating. And for me, that's you know, I think
- 53:21Speaker 1: a big key of the defense and what was missing
- 53:23Speaker 1: last year. So hopefully they can keep it rolling. But
- 53:26Speaker 1: we're gonna take a quick break right now, Pay some bills,
- 53:28Speaker 1: eat some food, and I will be back in just

- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I guess I should tell I went so back. This
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: a little side story, but back when Brady got hurt
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: in two thousand and eight, I made a video and
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I should probably share it with Matt. It is on YouTube.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I made a music video of sets to the tune
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: of poisons. I won't Forget You, Baby, But I made
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: an I won't Forget You Brady music video that was
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: very Yeah, you still hired them, but I was saying,

- 1:04:32Speaker 1: that's hot pink, and I've been tempted to bring it
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: in because I'd be fun for content with the players,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: but I think that you need to break it out first. Well,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: did Angelie tell you that me and her we got
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: up and we did a little Miley cyrus at the
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Christmas party prior to her departure. I was a duet.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: It was pretty bad. I don't I don't think I
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: can reach those those upper notes. But we're back after lunch.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: It was delicious and trying to make sense to the offense.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: We got Paul's here, Alex's here, Tamaris here. We're waiting
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: on Evan, who was finishing up a peace and he'll
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: be down to share his observations. Today. We were up
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: on the side of the building to get a little
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: bit higher view of things, and unfortunately it's still kind
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: of looked the same even from that height. But we've
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: been going through that. Let's let's jump into some questions
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: though plenty here and encourage you guys. Please give us
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: a call eight five to five pats five hundred. I'd
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: love to hear from you guys. But Austin writes in
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: from North Carolina with a viewing of several practice, where
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: would yall expect for this team to end up in
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: the grand scheme of thing? Not a prediction of the
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: win loss column, but are we looking about and an average,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: middling or below average team? Thanks for the coverage. Anybody
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: want to jump on that one? I mean, you don't
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: want to jump to conclusions right now, but I mean, well,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: it's hard to be excited about what you've seen on offense.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: It just hasn't been anything there yet. And maybe you
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: can talk to yourself into the defense being better right now,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: but I'd say we I'm not feeling great right now.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I'm sure things can change around and things can you
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: improve the next few weeks and we'll be hey, they're
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: really starting to put it together. But I can't lie
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: right now. It's just it's you go out there every
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: day expecting to see something new, something getting strung together,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: a few plays like bang bang bang, they go down
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the field and it's just there hasn't been any of that.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: They've made some plays here and there, but nothing together,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: nothing consistent. Yeah, average, I would say, but you're right, Mike,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: it's not based on practice as much as for me
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: on the roster, I think the personnel they have some
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: they have some quality players, but I don't know if
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: they have enough of the frontline guys, the standouts, the
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: difference makers to be anything above that. You know, and
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: the one guy that's the wild card and all that
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: is your quarterback. Because if you have above average quarterback play,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: that can lift a lot of other guys up along
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: with it. So if he makes an enormous leap in
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: year two, then that gives you potential to be better
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: than average. Well, I think, Paul, that feeds into something
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: we've kind of talked about a little bit, and that
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: is over the last few years, going back to you know,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Cam Newton ight even go back to the twenty nineteen offense,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that Josh McDaniels had an ability to draw things up
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: to scheme up big plays, scoring like you know, significant
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: plays when they were most desperately needed. Um, you know,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers has thrown a few touchdowns doing just that.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I think that's a That's a big question that I
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: have is that, you know, if the offense continues to
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: be sporadic like it is, are they gonna be able
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: to have the if the foresight to draw those kind
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: of plays up and to get those you know, to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: catch teams sleeping and know the right. We've certainly seen
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: some trip plays. We can't share them where you're here,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: but they have been in UM. But you know, it's
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: also timing. We should haved that. We had two of
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: them and they were both unsuccessful. Right there you go.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: That's as detail as we can get and all you
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: need to know. But you know, it's like if they
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: can't even rely on those things this year, that relays
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: the question of like, well then we might really you know,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: be in trouble. Uh. Well, Michael brings up the Dolphins tampering.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Can we can we chat a little bit about that
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: if you feel pretty good? He's a long time listener
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: UM and he calls Patriots on Filter one of his
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: can't miss favorites. Uh. Paul is usually my favorite. He
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: is generally fair and objective and not afraid to criticize
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: the Patriots one appropriate. Paul said that when appropriate, he said,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: he's uh that said. I was very disappointed with Paul's
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: reaction to a caller on Tuesday, just after the late
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: afternoon break a caller brought up the Dolphins tampering and
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: suggested compensation for the Patriots. Paul quickly shot down the
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: idea without offering any explanation or letting the caller explain
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: his line of thought. I think in the future it
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: might be better if Paul said he disagreed and asked
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: the caller to justify their position. Well, Paul, you've been
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: talking about it. I mean, why don't you. I mean,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: you can explain expand your you know, your reasoning of
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: of what where is there a precedent for a team
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: like the Patriots to receive compensation in the all And
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: they're like, tampering has gone on in sports forever, and
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: there have been periodic times where teams have been gotten
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: in trouble for it and been fined and disciplined for it.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: And I think there was one um goes back a
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: few years now, but Kansas City in Philadelphia. I think
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: we're involved in one in Kansas and he got in trouble.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I think I might might have that Backwich. But Jeremy
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: Macklin was a receiver who was involved in it. And
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: the team that gets in trouble for doing the tampering
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: gets sanctioned, and I think Kansas City lost like a
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: third and a sixth round pick or something like that,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: or a fourth and sixth round pick, and they get
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: fined and all that. Nothing happens to the player, and
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: nothing happens to the team that the player was on. It.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: It's generally you're telling me it would be unprecedented, like
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: for a player, let me let me jump in, just
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: because he offers a couple of examples, Okay that he says.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: In two thousand and seven, the San Francisco forty nine
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Ers made inappropriate contact with Drew Rosenhouse, the agent for
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Bears landbacker Lance Briggs. In two thousand and eight, they
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: were penalized by Roger Goodell. Forty nine Ers lost the
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: two thousand and eight fifth round pick. In addition, the
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Bears and forty nine ers swap third round picks. The
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Bears benefited by moving up five spots in the third round.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Then his second ex ample is in twenty and ten,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: the Lions defensive coordinator informer Kansas City Chiefs coach Gunther
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Cunningham made general comments about the future Chiefs free agents
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: being welcome in Detroit. Roger Goodell initially penalized the Lions
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: in the twenty eleven draft with the loss of a
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: seventh round pick plus the swap of fifth round picks
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: with the Chiefs. The seventh round pick was later rescinded
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: upon appeal by the Lions. The Chiefs ended up benefiting
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: from the Tampa ring by moving up fourteen spots in
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: the fifth round. Okay, So if that's what you want
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: to do, that's fun. Like to me, that's nothing. If
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: like the lock, the Dolphins lost first and third round picks,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: and the suggestion that was made on Tuesday was the
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Patriot should get those. That's not the same as moving
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: up fourteen spots in the seventh round or the fifth round,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: or whatever the round happens to be. I don't really
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I'll take that research at face value. I don't recall
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: that part of it, but I'll take that face value.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I don't really think that that's getting anything. So what
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: does Tampa Bay get? Because what happened to Tampa Bay
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: was far worse than what happened to the Patriots. The
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Patriots didn't have any interest in retaining Tom Brady. Tom
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Brady didn't have any interest in staying in New England,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: and he was contacted by Miami, which is wrong. It's tampering.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: He was on the Patriots, so that's why Miami got
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: in trouble. Tampa Bay wants to keep Tom Brady, and
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: Tom Brady doesn't want to stay there and obviously was
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: looking to get rid of Bruce Arians and he's talking
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: to Miami. So what does Tampa Bay get. That's the thing.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: It's hard to justify giving the Patriots any compensation when
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: he didn't even choose to go straight to Miami from here.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: He went to the box so and he was a
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: free agent anyway, so it's like, what do you do?
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: And I'm not I'm not blowing it. I'm not like
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: brushing it under the rug. He was the Patriots quarterback
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: in August of twenty nineteen. When the report said that
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Miami first made contact with Brady. That's against the rules.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Miami should be punished for that, and I think they
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: were harshly party. I think a first third and like
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: one whatever million plus the other guy that got in trouble.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: I don't care about, you know, a suspension for the
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: owner who cares yea um, but I think that's a
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: pretty significant punishment. Losing a first in the third round pick.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: But I just don't, you know, like when the coaches
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: changed and it was tampering with coaches, Like when when
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Parcels went to the Jets, the Jets were obviously contacting,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: the Jets got in you know that it was ruled
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: because the Parcels was the Patriots coach. They had to
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: work out compensation. Same thing when the Patriots were contacting
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: Belichick when he was with the Jets, we had to
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: give them compensation. It was a trade, John Gruden going
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: from the Raiders to Tampa Bay. Like those are trades
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: and that and that's the compensation. But it's not like
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: it's not the same thing as the team losing a
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: draft pick and then having to give it to another team.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Like I just don't think that that's the same thing.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: I just think it's funny they did all this and
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: they didn't even get Brady, Like they went through all
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: this trouble and all or either of them, Like Sean
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Payton retires, he's about to move to Miami. Hang out
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: on you can't even cheat, right Dolphin, Oh man, let's
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: jump let's jump over to the phones against sameir from
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: New Hampshire. Hey, sameir, what's going on? Hey guys, UM
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: really big fan of the show. UM love every guys doing.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: My number one favorite Teacrets player ever is Jimmy White.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: Just love him. I love that he does everything right.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Um and if he does something wrong, he picks it
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and never does the wrong get there is a chance,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it's hard to say, you know just
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: exactly where he is physically. I did see him on
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the lower practice field today working with Dietrich Wise a
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: little bit, and uh someone else, oh, Dalton Keene. But
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know exactly where he is physically.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: But I think there's a chance that he's not not
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: a part of the team. If he's not one hundred
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: percent and they're looking to move on, I think they
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: have some depth at that spot. Uh Ti mork Gomery's
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: gotten a lot of action in the first eight days
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: of camp. I think he does a lot of those
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: kinds of things. Different style than James White, but he
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: you know, he can certain He was a wide receiver
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: initially and transformed into a running back, so he has
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: that ability. I think we've seen Kevin Harris, Damian Harrison,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: or mondre Stevens and all catch a ton of passes,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: so I think they have guys that can do that.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: And if maybe he's not fully healthy, guy is falling off.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Literally the sky is fallowing in the studio right now.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: I imagine if Mack was here, like he would just
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: like fallow hand, what are we doing doing? Thanks to me?
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I appreciate the call, and let's welcome and Evan who
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: just wrote up his piece and posts it. Evan, what
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: what Sadatia day a practice any We've obviously been laying
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: it all out. We were there with you watching today,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: so but you know, why don't you feed it your way?
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: I guess as you see it passing game a little
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: bit better today, I would say, I think that's the positive.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: The running game is still a work in progress. And
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I think today we saw Devon Gage two or three
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: plays in a row just completely blow up the play
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: at the line of scrimmage. And as you guys are
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: just kind of talking about, on the one hand, you
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: want to say, oh wow, maybe Devon Gotsha is just
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: off to a great start and he's going to be
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: a force for the Patriots in the middle of the defense.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: It's very, very possible. But we've also seen some breakdown.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Still with the new stuff in the offense, I don't
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: want to give away too much, but the new installation
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: that the Patriots have put in there, some of the
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: elements that are new to this offense, I think are
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: the main things that are still bogging it down. When
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: they got later on in the practice, spread the field,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: put Mac Jones in shotgun, put some receivers out there.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: He was able to hit some passes down the field,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: but when they got to some of that other stuff
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: that they've been doing, it seemed like, once again that
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: things were disjointed and not in the right places. So
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: in some ways, I guess that's a positive that the
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: old stuff or the stuff that MAXs comfortable with, seems
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: to be still clicking a little bit for them. But
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: some of the under center stuff that they've been doing,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: the zone concepts, things like that, still looks like they
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: aren't one hundred percent and confident with what they're doing.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: I mean, do you think Mac looks like he just
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: doesn't comfortable yet. I mean that I don't know that's
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: a simple way to put it, but it just, you know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: you can say all the receivers aren't getting open, or
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: it just doesn't look like like last year. What I
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: was so impressed with him is that he came in
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: and he played in rhythm, you know. It just it
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: seemed like, Wow, he seemed comfortable in the pocket, the
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: ball comes out, and we saw plenty of those plays,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: and I mean, Paul said it at the top, and
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: I agree with him. It's just it feels like it
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: looked better last year. And of course new pieces and
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: new coaches and all those things, but it's a little
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: bit disheartening and it just doesn't seem like he's seeing
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: any not I don't say anything, he's not seeing it
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: consistently yet, No, he's not. And one of the big
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: plays that stood out to me was during an eleven
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: on eleven period, they tried to bootleg action him out
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: and he just threw the ball into the ground right
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: and he was just like, yeah, there's there's a couple
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: guys in my face, I can't really see what's down
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: the field and there's not much going on anyways, and
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: just kind of gave up on the play. And I
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: think in a lot of ways we've seen that frustration
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: from Mac throughout this week of practice, especially the padded
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: practices come through where guys are just not where he
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: expects them to be. The protection has not always been great,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: and I think that that's a combination of things there
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that has led to some frustrations for him for sure,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: which I think last year we didn't really see a
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: ton of frustration during training camp. I think as the
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: season war on, obviously you have your ups and downs
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: and roller coaster ride and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: and some of those things started to come out. But
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: you've heard about the stuff from Alabama how Nick Saman
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: had to pull him aside and say, hey, your demeanor
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: and your body language and those things matter when you're
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: the quarterback, and he sort of was able to rein
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: it in a little bit. We've seen a little bit
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: more frustration this summer so far from Mac. Well, let's
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: just jump through a question here, because asking about Davante Parker,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: you know, is that he's a better but not much
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: better version of nikkill Harry. Is that enough to take
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: the offense to another level? I would not describe him
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: as that really insulting. Um. I wouldn't even put him
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: in to kill Harry in the same sentence. First of all, Um,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: the only thing I think they have like is they are.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: We're wearing the same phone phone number, they're we're in
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: the same Jersey number. Um. I think that you know,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: his size and ability is great. He's definitely give given
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: the defense a hard time and picked him apart most days,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: you know, obviously when he is able to get the ball.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: But it's just night and day difference for me. I
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: know what I mean, And I don't, of course want
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: to pick on the keel, but it just it feels
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: like this is what an actual NFL contested receiver looks like. Yeah. Um,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: But at the same time, I'm not like, this isn't
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: like im Paul sustainable. This isn't like something to build
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: the offense around contest. I see, I see way too
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: many similarities. It's he's without question better than Harry. Oh yeah,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Harry can't. Like you said. I like the way you
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: just said that, this is what a contested catcher NFL
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: receiver looks like. P If Parker gets a chance, he's
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: going to make the catch, whereas Harry didn't. He doesn't
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: get open a lot. He just doesn't. He Look, there's
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: a lot of similarities to me, and I worry about it. Yeah,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: he doesn't really create create separation, but he still can
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: pull him down regardless. And he seems to have some
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: good chemistry, which I think today I saw make one
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: catch where he knows when to break things off and
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: turn back shoulder, and Max hit him a couple of times.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: Touchdown today was just up the sideline. But you But
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: just to get back to my bigger point was that
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: I don't feel like contested catches is something like you
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: hang your hat on. It's hey, we're at the eighteen
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: yard line. We've got Davante Parker. Let's you know, put
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: him out isolated on one side and see if we
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: can get a mash up on a little corner and
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: take a shot. And you know, it's not like today
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: we got to get six contented catches from Parker to
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: move the ball. You know. So I think he's a
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: piece of the puzzle. And maybe I was wrong, and
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: we certainly had had some some conversations about Parker. I
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: thought he'd be the best receiver by far. You know.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: I think he's a useful tool. I think in the
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: offense group, yeah yeah, but I think that they need
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: more and they I think they certainly need. You know,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I just think I continue to think Kendrick Bourne is
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: what is kind of missing from the offense, and now
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: he had a nice day kind of yesterday when Pad's
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: dialed back. But I don't know if does that make sense.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Like I think the biggest thing that I'm seeing is
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: when Taekwon Thornton and Nelson Ago are on the field together.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: There's so much more speed in this offense than what
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: we've seen over the last couple of years. And not
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: even just taking the top off and having them hit
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: plays down the field, but we saw today Trey Nixon
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Jakobe Myers catching some passes underneath the defense because now
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: all of a sudden, that space is opened up because
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: those guys are pushing the safeties up the field. When
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you roll out Parkurge, Kobe, Kendrick Bourne, the tight ends,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: that group is once again extremely slow, and at some
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: point in time, I'm sure it'll be they probably already
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: know this right that they're going to have to have
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: at least one of Agilore and Thornton, if not both
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: guys out there on the field at the same time,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: just to have that vertical threat on the outside, on
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the inside, any sort of vertical threat to present to
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: the defense because other wise it's gonna look a lot
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: like last year. When those safeties are gonna keep crouching down,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: They're gonna hug the intermediate and short stuff, and there's
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: really gonna be nowhere to go with the football. So
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: when we were watching practice today when those three players
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: were out there, and I'm not trying to sing Trey
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Nixon's praises like he's the next West Welker, but when
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: when Nelson, Aglore, Thorton and Nixon were out there, those
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: are four four two four four four two eight. That's
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: real NFL speed on the field versus when you see
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: guys like Parker or Myers or Born. You see the difference,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: you can it's palpable that you can see the difference
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: with the pace of the offense. And I think right
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: now there they need that pace from those outside receivers especially.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: We got a goode from Anthony. It's not a game, um,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: but I'm gonna make it a game just because he's
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: he's he's asking a few names and I'm just gonna
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: throw these names out there. Maybe you guys can just
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: like hop in, give us, you know a few little
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: things of what you think. And um, so he says
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: any observations on oocha speed Rush still has that in
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: his bag. If he gets the edge, he can make plays.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: If you get a hand on him, he's done. Jewan Williams,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: I don't see. I don't see. Yes. I mean he's
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: think he's made a couple of plays, but it's the
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: same thing. He grabby. He's very grabby, Verry grabby. He's
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: a big, big guy, very hands, very hands. Uh. Ronnie Perkins,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: my guy had a tough camp well kind of like invisible. Yeah.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: I haven't only seen many reps for him with frontline guys,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: no couple today. I thought he was over there. We
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: shoot on out. It felt like Jennings got bumped up
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: a spot and Perkins got bumped up. Jennings definitely bumped
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: up a spot. Yeah, you're right, but but I think
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: it illustrates the depth situation that they have there. And
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: you see, you know, the one day that that your
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: star edge guy is out, you're you know now you're
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: going to Perkins who didn't or I'm sorry, uh totally
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: blank right now Afreny Jennyferny Jennings, is you know a
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: guy who didn't play last year? Perkins didn't play last year. Um,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: That's why I think there's some people calling for for
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: Trey Flowers and I wouldn't totally be against that. What
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: do you think? What do you think about Trey Flowers?
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: Would you be into that one? Evan? I think Trey
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: always was better as a four three end, you know
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: when they ran those four man lines that he always
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: was great in that role. He's not a stand up linebacker, right,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: I mean, he's a hand in the dirt defensive lineman.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: But I always loved about Trey Flowers is versatility. I
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: mean they could line them up over the nose and
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: pass through situations and have them get after the quarterback.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: So I'm all forward. I think he fits this scheme
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: like a glove, But I don't know if that They're
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: gonna have to be an even front team for him
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: to be a full time player. YEP. Another one here
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: from Let's see V in Pittsburgh. Based on what you're
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: observing day to day, is it looking more like a
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: a complete transition to a new wide zone offensive scheme,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: a trans a streamline hybrid scheme with elements borrowed from
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: both EP and w Z offense. I'm not sure wide
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: zone I guess or primarily and the old EP scheme
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: with some elements of w Z. I'll let you jump
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: on that one is hard purchase. Oh cool, got you?
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: That will be my guest YEP. I don't spec, mister,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I don't do the film. He's like, I didn't tell
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: you I could break it down, all right, put it this.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: I didn't tell you I could pretend to break it down.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I just know the terminology and I throw it out
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: there when I need to. I appreciate one. I appreciate
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: it through me. I mean I know it is. It
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: threw me for a loop though with the that's the offense. Yeah,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: that was the old office, And I do think it's
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: going to continue, Evan, you can weigh in here. I
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: think it's going to be a hybrid. I think Bill
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: kind of said it yesterday. Yeah, when he talked about this.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: These are the runs we're doing. Now we're gonna get
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: to some gap runs down the road again. I'm just
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: listening to the terminology. Don't ask me what the difference
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: like that that that that's Evans. Don't ask me that.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: The biggest thing that stands out to me with what
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: they're doing is okay, I fully one hundred percent believe
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Bill Belichick when he says there will be gap runs
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: in the playbook. But is that going to be more
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: of like a game plan thing where you know, this
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: wide zone scheme. If you play a team that has
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: a really good penetrating front and they're going to get
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: up the field on you, you're not. You don't want
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: to run stretch against a team that's guys that are
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: firing through gaps all the time, right, So that might
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: be a week where you get into more of those
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: gap runs that they used to run. So the Patriots
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: are always going to be, to me a offensive game
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: plan defense where if they feel the best way to
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: attack the opponent is to run man blocking schemes and
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: to bring the pulling guards and the lead plays and
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: things like that back, they're going to run that. But
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: when I watched them out at practice, it's the play
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: action that's getting me, right, is because if you're going
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: to be running gap as much as or more than
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: the zone stuff, then where are the gap play action passes?
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Because we haven't really seen those, So are those coming
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: next week or those coming once they close the practices
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: and disappear for the rest of the season. I don't know,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: but right now, the whole point of your running game
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: and play action passing game is to marry the concepts together.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: You want it to look all the same to the defense,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: so they don't know if it's run or pass and
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: they're repping like they're running zone and they're running play
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: action off of the zone. If they were going to
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: start running some gap stuff and be a major gap team,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: then they would be running gap play action and we
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: just haven't seen that. Yeah, and I agree with Evan
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: in that they will have. I think that they'll probably
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: have both elements in the bag. But you're not gonna
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: like say like, okay, we're gonna open up and you know,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: let's let's hit them with some with some you know,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: zone reads and you know, do you know some RPOs
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: and let's let's get it all you know the wide
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: gap you know inside Oh wait a minute, it's not working.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Let's just go let's go to the gaps. No, it's
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: gonna be game plan related. You're gonna go into a
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: games man, this is how we're going to attack them
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: this week and next week. It might be a totally
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: different kind of a defensive scheme that you're gonna see
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: and he's gonna go with the opposite. Again, that's why
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: they're coaches. They know what schemes work better against, you know,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: certain looks defensively. You know you made the comment about
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: the penetrating defensive front is tough on on that kind
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: of a scheme. That's where you're going to see the differences.
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: But the bottom line right now is like, I think
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: it's more execution basis. I think we can keep looking
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: no matter what. Again, on our show, we argued, right
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: the three of us argued all spring right about the plan.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: I don't like the plan. I just don't think this
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: is anything to do with the plan. They're just not
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: executing very well right now. Yeah. Yeah, it all goes
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: back to the super Bowl in twenty nineteen to me
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: as well, because that Rams team had one thing in
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: their bag and one thing only, and that was wide
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: zone right wide zone, bootleg off of it, crossing routes,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff, and what it Bill Belichick deal.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: He held them to three points in the Super Bowl
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: because the auto do it every time Jared Goff went
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: like this one way and went the other way, fifty
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: four was in his face. Yeah, exactly, yeah. And and
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: if you listen, and this is out there, if you
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: listen to some of those sideline things that the NFL does,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: they have Bill Belichick. They have a clip of him
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: saying to the interior defensive lineman, get vertical, Get vertical,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: Get vertical, because when they stretch, you want to shoot
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: those gaps right, and you don't want to let that
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: delay kind of happen because you're rushing them into making
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: that decision. The Rams had one thing in their bag.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Bill figured it out, and then the Rams came back
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: with Sean mcvayh and now they run different stuff. They
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: have a couple of different elements in their playbook and
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: they've added to their running game. They run duo. Now,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: they run some of the motion things that they ran
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: against the Patriots a few years ago, and that has
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: allowed them to be more productive and not just be
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: a one trick pony. So the Patriots are never going
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: to be a one trick pony. They're always going to
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: have multiple things to do. What happened in that what
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: happened in that twenty twenty Rams game, that was a
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: she lacking right, So they had the motion coming across
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: and what they were doing was they were adding on
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: blockers to the end of the line of scrimmage, so
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: their motioning guys across and leading with that receiver. And
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: now all of a sudden, the dbs are in the fit. Right,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: So now you have the safeties, you have the corners.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: They're coming down and trying to stop the run. You
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: don't want your corners stopping the run, right, you want
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: your linebacker stopping the run. So that that was the
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: conflict there some of my diving into outside zone. I
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: sell A funny quote from a coach was like, we
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: don't we don't we want we want to block safeties.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: We want to make corners tackle. I thought that was
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: a good little like football philosophy of like block the
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: safeties because they liked the tackle corner. Do you like
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: the little phrases like me right? I think the phrases
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Poor Miles Bryant is trying to hang on for dear
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: life as receivers are coming out, Uh Jack jacking on Anna,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: But he's got a good U this or that. On
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: the fifty three man opening day roster, you guys ready,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: a couple of couple of guys like this guy or
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: this guy. You gotta pick one Tray Nixon or Sean Wade.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Oh wow, Trey Trey Nixon, Trey try try everybody try
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: think so Heke Wades. I mean, can we do both
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: neither as options? Sure, we'll take both rosters. Uh well,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: two of my guys, Lebron Ray and Brendon Schooler, school
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: both give me both. I think Lebron Ray's got a
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: good shot based off of what we see. I think
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: they have a crush on Schooler. Yeah, I do too.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I've never seen a guy involved in so many different
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: things now as an undrafted Ebner esque yeah right, yeah,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: and I and I've seen like and you know, you
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: catch little moments here and there through practice, Like I've
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: caught a couple like Cam eight Court, like yep, that's it.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: That's it, like with like the kind of the hit
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: on the boat. So we've seen him throughout the spring
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: and now into camp, you know, working with like Slater
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: in Bethel and Dye Davis. Right, So clearly they want
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: to refine his special teams techniques. He's like on kickoff,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: he's on punt, He's worked as the personal protector on punt.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: You know, um, all of a sudden, the last couple
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: of days early in eleven on eleven's he's out there
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: at safety, which to me is telling me to your
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: Nate Ebner point Evan, this is a guy that's on
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: my game day roster, so I need to get him
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: prepared in the What do we do if situation happens,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: like when Sean Mayer is finishing the Super Bowl in
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: Houston against Carolina. Yeah, that's what I do. I go back.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: I could go back to things that I can remember
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: were you're born for that one? Right? Wow, I already
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: told that a hole, and he's not allowed to do
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: that anymore. I can't. He can't tell gently talking about
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: Richard Seymour because he was nine. Yeah, is nine years
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: old when Richard Seymour was a Patriot, and I think
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: he almost punched me. How dare you be so young?
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: We got two more. Arlington Hambright the Hambone. I'm loving him,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: and yes, here Durance, I think it's got to be Hambright, right,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: I mean, he's kind of one of the surprises of
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: the King. I would go both there, but if I
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: have to pick one, it would be him. Right. Yeah,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: you look up and you see Arlington Hambright in the
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: on offensive line and you're just kind of do double
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: take after after the third play he goes to right
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: guard and he finishes out the set and then the
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: next set. A lot of times after the third play
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: he places Strange on the left side, which tells me
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: they're trying to find who's that interior swing back up,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: just like they do with tackle, and I think Haran
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: is probably that guy at tackle. Right. Yeah, Well, Harrons
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: look pretty good too. I mean one was impressed with
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: him today, right, So, I mean I think that you're
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: looking to build your depth. You're gonna have seven or
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: eight on the game day roster, and then you always
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: have guys on the practice squad too, So it's I
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: think both of those guys could be around, but Hambright
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: would be my pick. If I don't only pick one.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: If they're gonna be zone heavy, then Arlington. Hambright's got
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: that kind of ability to get out of his stance
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: and get out on the perimeter like they're gonna need
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: last one. A couple of guys, well, Sam Roberts or
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Daniel aquality, I mean, I think aquality is popped a
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: little bit. I was kind of hoping for more from
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: Sam Roberts. I could maybe see equality but I think
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: he's in there in that mix with Lebrian Rays like
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: a secondary kind of Russian. Either one's probably both start
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: on the practice squad. Yes, with sixteen guys, you got it.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: I mean there's plenty of guys that are gonna be
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: part of the program that aren't necessarily on the game
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: day roster opening day, uh, Giovannie writes, and she just
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: had a question. I believe it's it's a it's a female.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: It's interesting, but with a why all right, I don't
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: know who cares, doesn't matter anyway, Um, go with the guy,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: all right, Jovanni, whatever you are, Uh from Alexandria way
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: of lawrence, just expect just saying that the full podcasts,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: I think from the third and Monday the first weren't
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: are not posted. I think that's a that's an editing issue, right, correct, Matt,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: Like they said, I think it's the live some of
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: the live training camp podcasts. Maybe music issue. Perhaps podcasts
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: only should be posted, but like, but probably I think
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: the music I think was too loud in them though
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: from the live shows. From the live shows, but you
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: were talking about just the podcast, Yeah, they said, the
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: full podcast from yesterday August third and the full podcast
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: from Monday. The first never posted on my podcast app
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Spotify and pocket casts. Also not that they didn't post
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: on the Patriots app. Any insight on that, not sure.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: We appreciate you letting us know, though, we'll look into that.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: We we know we do have audio issues now that
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: like if any hint of music gets picked. And I'm
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: just thinking that those days when we did the training
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: camp podcast was up there, so maybe there was some
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: music plan. I don't know, Yeah, that that seems very possible.
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: But Johnson from Nose of US Scotia Nova Scotia, where
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: we've just had Brady for so long. As our expectation
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: the offense too high. Last year, my expectation were an
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: eight win team and it's not changed much. I'm not
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: a firm believer of the our defense is good theory.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I like that in quotes, but I'll try to be
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: optimistic as we look to make some strides. I'm really
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: enjoying the varying voices and takes us year. Oh, that's nice,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: appreciate it. I mean, our expectations, of course are way
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: too high, right, I mean Patriots fans are like, like,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: you had to know this was coming that, like you've
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: been spoiled for twenty years. You think you think it's
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: already just gonna all of a sudden click together and
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: work and you'll be in the AFC Championship, and you know,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: it's it's just it's showing how hard it is. And
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: I think a lot of the a lot of the
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: misfires and things that have kind of added up in
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: recent history. I have played a role in that, and
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I think this is a critical year. And and you know,
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: now we're talking about resetting the offense, which there was
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: another email that wrote in I'll just I forget who
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: exactly it was, but just to bring it up saying,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: you know, like why now was this really necessary? Shouldn't
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: we had done this last year? And I wonder, you know,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: was Josh knowing he might be out, you know, knowing.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: I mean, I can't fault them for saying we can't
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: speak Josh McDaniels language, you know, we can't speak that,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: and coach that we need to kind of hit the
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: reset button. I understand that. I think it just comes
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: back to though, if you're simplifying and you're trying to
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: make it easier, wise it looks so clunky early on. Well,
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: first of all, Josh McDaniels is gonna coach with Josh
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: McDaniel is gonna coach like, he's not changing his system.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: I guarantee you he'll run the same thing he ran
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: here for ten years with the Raiders. This year, Josh
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: McDaniels runs his offense for better or worse. I mean,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: even with Cam Newton, there were still so many elements
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: all really the only things that were made for Cam
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: were like the design quarterback runs and things like that.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: All the passing game was still Josh McDaniels is offense,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: so he's not going to change his stripes. So this
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: year it's a different animal. Now you have different coaches,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: and why is it If it's simplified, why does it
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: look so I still come back to the fact that
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: this is a very rhythmic based system that they're trying
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: to implement, especially on the ground, and that is not
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: going to come together in three padded practices. That's gonna
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: take some time. And like we said the other day,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: if it doesn't look good in September, if it doesn't
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: look good in October, and we will react accordingly. But
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: for right now, your three padded practices into this thing.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: It's not going to be a finished product at this point. Yeah,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: we'd like to see a little bit more progress in
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: the running game, but overall they're going to have some
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: growing pains with this type of system. Well, here's a
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: question for the group. I mean, you know, they're probably
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: we've talked about Tomorrow night in stadium, probably not going
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: to learn much Tomorrow night. Then possibly it seems like
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: Saturday Sunday off, we're going to come back here on
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Monday Tuesday for practice. We get back to practice, the
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Hochey staff had a chance to reevaluate things. What are
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: you looking to see when we get back out here
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: on Monday. Be it a play, a player, a certain
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: player you'd like to see more of, you know, just
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: simple execution. But you know, for you, what would make
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: you feel better if we came out here on Monday
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: and this happened. Kendrick Bourne, I think that we've discussed
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: that a few times, just been very silent camp like.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: It hasn't been someone that we've really talked about much.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: I mean talking about a little bit today because today's
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: his birthday. Yeah, his balloon. He was handing out balloons
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: like I mean outside of the his energy and um, yeah,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: you know, he lights up a room. I feel like
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: that we really haven't seen him light up the field,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: and I think that I'm hoping that maybe next week
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: for the two practices that we get to see that
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: you know, we'll see him actually become active. I mean maybe.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: I mean that's been like the running pattern is like
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: when we bring someone up. We brought up Jacobe Myers
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: and that he's been silent. The next day he showed up,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: so um speaking to existence. Yeah, maybe we'll speak into
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: existence and see Kendrick Bourne actually you know come in action.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: And I really liked with Evan shared like when when
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: you have you know, um Born and Thornton and who
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: knows train Nix in like, you know, just things get
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: better on the field. And so I'm hoping that that
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: is the case. Yeah, anybody Paul two tight ends. I
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: just need Mac Jones to look more comfortable. I want to.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I don't even care about the results as much. I
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: want him to look more comfortable. The player that Evan
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: talked about where he's you know, it's a play action boot.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: He rolls out and he's like this is you know
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: this this thinks, you know, underhand, disgusted, throw up to
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: He just doesn't look happy, and I just want to
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: see him look like he did last year, Like the
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: guy that was like sort of competing all the time
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: last year. It looks like right now he's just searching
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: for answers. Yeah, it just doesn't feel like everyone's on
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: the same page. Like if we could just have that
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: working towards like a collective goal, it would just feel
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: more cohesive in the timing and some kind of day
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: he just finished and like, oh, I feel like the
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: offense has got it. But if you mentioned two tight ends,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: and I mean my question for you, is it because
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: you know you, I thought you made a good point
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: about Agalore and Thornton and getting more speed on the field.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: I gotta be honest, I just don't feel like they're
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: that dynamic with those two tight ends. Like I think
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: that they're useful guys, But why do you think is
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: the two tight ends? What what difference that make? I
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: guess it's more for me like formationally because I think
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Johnny Smith ideally, if this is the way that they're going,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: then Johnny Smith is there, Kyle us Chick, right, he's
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: somebody that's going to play like more of like an
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: h back fullback type of role this year and be
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: moved around and do some different things from different angles
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: and slide into the into the flats and then take
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: those little dump boss when there's nothing open down the
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: field and have some room to run with the football.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: Whereas Hunter Henry. Not to compare Hunter Henry to the
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: probably the best tight end football and George Kittle, but
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Hunter Henry is more of your traditional tight end, right,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: the guy that's going to get open at the top
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: of the route and maybe create some one on one
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: matchup problems and things like that. I still think that
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: that is going to be their base package ideally, where
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: really Johnny is essentially like what they've used a fullback
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: for in the past, but is a better version of
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: a fullback, right, somebody that's a little bit more dynamic
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: in the passing game, and then you get some of
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: that speed on the outside and create a lot of
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: opportunities underneath for those tight ends for the backs things
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: like that. I think that that's where their offense is
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: going to be the most productive outside of like spread
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: eleven personnel with Mac and the gun type of stuff,
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: which is probably going to be more third down, you know,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: two minute or whatever. So when they come out first
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: and ten, twenty yard line, twenty five yard line, you know,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: first quarter opening possession. I would like to see it
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: be more twelve personnel heavy this year, certainly than it
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: was last year, where they really surprised us. All. They
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: were twenty seventh in the league and twelve personnel usage
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: last year basically didn't everybody happy, right, you thought that
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: that's what they were going back to Crock and Hernandez
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: and but I just wonder if it's because and I
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: think everything Evan said makes a ton of sense, and
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: he even dumbed it down, so I like, no, but
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: like in all seriousness, you're talking about a scheme, and
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I know exactly what he means by saying Jono Smith
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: is their youth checond. Like I think Jonah Smith is
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: wildly more athletic than Kyle you should. I just don't
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: know if he's as good a football player. Yeah, instinct
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: like you're saying, like when you're talking about getting the
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: ball to him in space, you know, quick, little show it,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: get him out. I don't he doesn't ever look comfortable
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: doing that to me. Yeah, yeah, ever, like if you
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: can get the ball in his hands and he's actually
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: running with it. But like I think of those plays
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: early in the season last year, I think they were
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: I think they planned on using the ton It's weelve
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: personnel last year, and then Jonah got off to as
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: dreadful as starters you could get, and they said, we
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: can't have this guy out there all the time. Well,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: I think the hope is is that it's similar to
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: what he did in Tennessee under Arthur Smith, who is
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: also a wide zone adjacent type of coach. Maybe hand
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: the ball to him. Yeah, they handed him the ball,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: They threw him screens. They really just schemed him. Do
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: you remember the screens last year to him? Those are
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: some of his more productive plays. Honestly though some of them,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: some of those screens I can remember, Like, it just
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: doesn't it didn't look comfortable. A lot that's getting his
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: legs knocked out from I mean just generally, I think
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: a lot of that, and I think you see it
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: even some in this training camp, Like I don't. I
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: mean I haven't seen a ton out of him early,
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: but it's just sometimes it just doesn't look athletic, it
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: doesn't look I mean you said like and He'thtic is
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: like I think it should be like the package of
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: his skills to me should produce more. He's just not
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: the type of guy and never has beens. This isn't
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: a slight on him. He's not the type of guy
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: that gets to the top of the route, makes a cut,
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: gets open, and and has that sort of production right
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: where he's in that sort of vein with the Titans,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: it was a lot of scheme touches or uh you know,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: motion type of plays with him, screens kind of motioning
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: him into the flats off of those bootleg actions and
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: things like that, and then red zone production on contested catches.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Those were his two big buckets that he would get
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: a lot of his stats from and a lot of
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: his production from. If you want to use a tight
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: end to that can block a little bit that can
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: get open at the top of the route, that that's
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: why you signed Hunter Henry, Like, that's that's your guy
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: for that, Johnny. You have to be a little bit
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: more creative with his usage, and this scheme that they
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: are apparently implement should feed right into that. It should
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: get the best out of out of anybody that it
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: should work for it should work for John who the most.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: I mean, this is exactly what fits his skill set,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: So you need to see a lot more from him
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: if that's going to be a productive offense. David and
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: Bethlehem wanted to ask a question about the half backs,
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: kind of running through some of the group. We weren't.
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: We weren't really sure what Pierre Strong's issue was. He
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: just seemed limited. He was out there early on, he
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: wasn't getting Yeah, it wasn't. It was out there every
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: day in a full uniform, but didn't seem to get
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: a lot of reps. Today it took some reps. Today
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: was the first day as Kevin Harris made a positive
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: impression most squads shoure have. I mean I think he has.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: You know, yeah, he's caught the ball pretty well. Um,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: we did. We talked to him yesterday. Yeah, I tried
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: to get some insight from him. But as typically happens
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: when you talk to rookiees, sont get much. He's a
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: little wide eyed. And then how good is Montgomery and
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: blocking tough tough to tell right now, But I just
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: I just think Montgomery has been every time I feel
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: like I look he's getting a refit running back, he's
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: returning kicks, he's on the kickoff team. I mean, he's
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: another one of those guys that just seems like he's
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: kind of everywhere. And Evin, we were kind of talking
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: about coming from Green Bay, maybe having some experience in
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: these kind of things. Maybe he's a little bit more
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: comfortable with the running, you know, making that read is
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: the running back in this kind of scheme, And you know,
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: I think I just I've noticed a couple where he's
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: gotten the edge and he looks fast, but I think
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: he's going to be involved. Yeah, a lot of the
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: routes that they had him run in New Orleans and
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: in Green Bay have a lot of New England flare
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: to them. There's quite a bit of overlap with Sean
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Payton and Josh McDaniels playbooks, so there's a lot to
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: be said about that. I think the one thing that
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: stood out to me with Time Montgomery is he's faster
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: than I was expecting. He's got it, maybe a little
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: bit more of an explosive gears than somebody like Brandon Bolden,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: who obviously they've loved around here for many reasons, But
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: in terms of the way that he moves. He's definitely
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: more dangerous with the football than Bolden ever was, So
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: maybe they have a slight upgrade in terms of offensive
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: weapon with time Montgomery. I mean, obviously the special team stuff,
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: they all latted Bolden as one of the best in
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: the league at that so I don't know if Montgomery
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: he is going to match him there. But in terms
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: of catching passes out of the backfield, and you mentioned blocking,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: I don't think that that's going to be a too
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: big of a problem for him or something that they're
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: going to really I think is a major concern with
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: a veteran like him. Hey too, Yeah, yeah, I don't
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: know why the similarities between what Peyton does and McDaniels. Yeah,
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: well where to Peyton started Sean Payton? Uh under ourselves?
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: Oh oh so it's a it's all the same, it
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: felt connect is that erhard Perskins EP we call it
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: the EP ourselves was in Dallas, I believe when Peyton
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: sort of cut his teeth and that's the same same
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: system that the Patriots have used. Well, it's such a
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: I mean, he was kind of one of the first
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: I mean, I guess maybe Gruden was one of the
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: first young hot shot offensive coordinators, you know the guys.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: It's just like I remember being aware of his offensive
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: coordinators who were like, oh, this guy's he's an offensive coordinate.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Like he's got Brian Billark too, Brian Billark in Detroit.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: That yeah, I mean, I'm sorry in Minnesota that year
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: where they scored a thousand points and they ended up
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: losing in the Age NFC Championship game. And then he
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: went to Baltimore and ironically won a Super Bowl with
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: no offense whatsoever. Do you think that that's? Uh, I mean,
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: it just seems like such a thing right now that
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: everyone's obsessed with offensive and offensive coordinators and you know,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: kind of those hot shot I think everybody wants one
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: of the young guys that has a lot of product
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: in his hair and and you know, maybe a well kept,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: well kept beard in like like a gas fireplace. It's
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: like flours infinity pool. In all serious this though, I
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: don't disagree, But in all serious you mean the look
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: of the guy has nothing to do with it. They might,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: I mean, I know he's popular the ladies. Things like that.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Very yeah, they all look good. They'll look good in
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: the underarm shirts and we got Matt Patricia, God damn,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: and I not talk about another guy being good luck totally.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: Can I just think Cliff is kind of like a
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: poor man's Ryan Gosling, absolutely very poor absolutely plus plus
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: all his teams to fade out, so you know, we
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: like winners here. He looks a lot like Ryan Gossling.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: I agree with that when you have a coach like
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Bill Belichick because everybody says he can do everything, I
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: have no doubt about that. But he's a defensive minded coach. Right.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: Defense is his bread and butter. It's the same thing
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: that Saban runs in with at Alabama, and that is
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: you recycle through offensive coordinators. Right, You're not the guy
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: calling the plays on offense, You're not the guy running
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: the system on offense, so you have to rely on
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: somebody else to do all that. And the Patriots and
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Belichick got lucky that Josh McDaniels has been here for
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: ten years and was the second time you know, in
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: that spot for such a long period of time, Whereas
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: I think Saban's the best example, even though it's not
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: the NFL. When you look at Saban, he went from
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: Kiffin to Sarkasian to Dable, to Bill O'Brien now, like
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: he's been recycling coordinators every two years, has sort of
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: the rule thumb down there is every two years the
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: coordinator from Alabama's going to get a head coaching job, right,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: So you have to keep the you know, the line moving,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: and ideally that's why you have guys that you can
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: promote from within and you develop your own coaches so
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: that it's not like you're continuously going outside of the
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: organization to find guys. But when you look across the NFL,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: all the guys that are getting head coaching jobs for
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: the most part now are offensive minded. So all the
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: great offensive innovators, all the great offensive play callers are
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: now head coaches, so there's not as many of them
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: available to just to be coordinators. So that's I think
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: something that continues to plague a lot of defensive minded teams.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: And it's happening in Buffalo right now. We'll see how
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: Ken Dorsey does as the offensive coordinator of the Bills.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: But Dabele gets hired by the Giants, they lose their
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: oc that developed Josh Allen, like, now, let's see what
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: happens with the next guy. And I think that these
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: defensive minded coaches do have a slight disadvantage in the
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: fact that Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay and all these
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: other coaches have started that trend that everybody wants the
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: offensive guru, say to work with young quarterbacks, and that's
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: just been the way it's gone heavily in the last
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: couple of years. Yeah, and those things are generally cyclical,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: but everybody wants right now. Yeah, Beeflow popped in the
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: mind just as like a recent defensive hyped guy, and
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: Salo was defensive. You know, I think everybody's looking for
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: the young sort of masterminds, you know that can you know,
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: wow you with his offensive acumen. Kevin O'Connell is another
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: one on that same tree up in Minnesota. Now, yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: I mean it's all sick, by the way. In full disclosure,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I absolutely loved when they drafted him. I loved him
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: coming out of college. Thought he was going to be
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: the next big thing and he sucked could coach though,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: how soon did you know? And turn couldn't complete? You know,
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: these little passes out to the flat that you know,
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: when we make fun of the offense and saying it's
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: time for a little dump to Damian Harris to get
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: things back on track. He couldn't complete those not consistently.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Hopefully he's helping Kirk Cousins. We'll get him, of course,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: the Patriots we'll see him on on Thanksgiving Night. We'll
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: all be working for that one. Uh, we'll tone it
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: would be a good game. Hey. But like, but it's
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: like every time I talk about games coming up the season,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: it's like I have like these flashes in my brain
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: of like Justin Jefferson, you know, like like just all
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: the guys that are on all these teams that they
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: have to play, he won't play. I don't know. I
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: don't know. Why is this the first time you ever
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: Calvin Cook him? Him and Falan will both be questionable
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: throughout the weekend, neither one. Literally, I feel like every
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: time the Patriots faced someone last year, like Lucky whoever
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: it was, wasn't playing. Oh sure in the ten games,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: I mean in the way Titan before. Literally everyone's just
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: randomly hurt the Titans Browns like Evan's mad. It took
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: me two shows get them cook on a little bit.
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: But honestly, it's like kind of happening now. I feel
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: like every time I get on Twitter every day. There's
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: another acl that's storm was there anymore? I know Patrick?
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: And there was another one yesterday, but I can't remember
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: who it was. It does seem like Buffalo dodged a boy. Yeah.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: Both they're safe with both safeties picked up, but neither
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: looks to be anything that's going to keep them out
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: long term. Yeah, that's a you know, Tamara and I
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: we do. We get the crowd. We whipped them up
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: before training camp to get everybody. And I often think
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: to myself, who would I love to listen to to
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: get me excited about? Comes to mind. It's like two
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: hundred degrees and you guys are sitting on metal bleachers
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: an hour before practice. God bless you all. Uh but
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: they Mike Mike Riley sarch ninety five, you know in
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: stadium host here he uh he just he went off
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: the beaten path. The other day. He's like, so, you
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: know what's been going on at other camps like fill
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: us in And I'm like, injuries, dude, I'm here every day.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: I am so like up to my eyeballs and patriots
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: like I don't even have a chance that I would
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: have my breath. I would have hit him afterward. Don't
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: ever do that to me again. Guy, would you even say?
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: I was like, well, the Tim Patrick, I'm like, well,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: there's been some injuries. I don't you know. I mean
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: it's hard. I mean, plus, you know, even if you've
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: been here, like the only thing you know about what
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: you're reading to finish stupid feed, you know, it's like
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: I've been here. I mean, he's you know, he's trying
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: to he's trying to round it out, trying to keep
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: the process going. I was a little bit thrown off
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: to State Lane bro because I get a course, Steve
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: Belchick and Gerrobmeyo playing a little pre practice catch like
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: on the over my shoulder, and I'm like, you know, so, dudes,
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: tell us how bad the offense has been. I'm like,
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: it's I mean, it's been great, especially the linebackers. A right,
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: I mean the offense has actually been great, but I
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: mean the linebackers are just blowing every playoff. I mean
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: they are really really well coached. These guys look like
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: Gerrov Mayo and his prime two thousand and twelve. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: you know, it's a little the dance we do. And
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: then of course we started today's show and uh and
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: Matt Morrell's waiting for d MAC to record right next door.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: So I was, like I told Paul, I was like,
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: let's we'll talk about the slipping. We start about the
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: slipping slide off the top, because I don't want d
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: Max like face pressed against the glass, Like what are
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: you saying nothing but good things about the defense so far?
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: I mean that's it's I know, I know you can't
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: really say anything bad about the defense. I also just
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm ready to, you know, like I said,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: to to feel confident that that. I mean, it's hard
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: to faced on the way the season ended last year
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: and what they did personnel wise. It's harder to there
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: and say, well, they're playing great against this offense, so
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: they're going to be great this year. Yeah. And it's
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: also hard to say it because the offense doesn't look great.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: So it's like, as expected, the defense should look great,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: considering the offense hasn't found that rhythm. And if the
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: defense didn't look great, what the offense looking like the
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: way it does right now? It's very complicated rubric up
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: in my head. Yeah yeah, and if then they don't
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: look good, then they have to look good. They're really good.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: We don't know, but I think the thing that that
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: the thing I will say I feel good about though,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: is just the consistent disruption one on one winning. I mean,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: these are you know, these are still NFL linemen, and
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I know one on ones are
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: not real football or anything like that. But I just
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: think when you have athletes and the kind of talent
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: that can win those matchups, it just makes your whole
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: life easier. And then it's really just all right, let's
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: just try to get bar barm On isolated. Let's try
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: to get Jude On isolated on this play. You know,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: if they can just and and I think he could probably.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: I don't know if everybody caught Evans the tone of
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: his voice about uch like he's great speed rush. I
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: don't because he doesn't need to say so. He doesn't
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: need to be down. You don't need to be hated
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: like me. But it's yeah, it's he's gotta he's gotta
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: be I'll say, I'll say the stuff that needs to
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: be said, like, you know, yeah, you know, if if
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: he's actually blocks, then you can eliminate him from the play.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: He comes off the ball great, but every single time
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: he does a one on one, he just loads up
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: the speed rush and it's like, if you catch him,
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: you catch him. If you don't, you don't. He has
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: some reps that he looks great. You're like, oh wow,
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: and there was there was two of those. Two of
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: those today he got he got Win. I don't even
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: think Win got a hind. I think you might have
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: gotten Durant on one. Yeah. But then there's other times
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: where the guy, the guy gets the punch right in
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: the chest plate yeah, rep is over. Yeah, And I
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: think that that, I mean that could be something an
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: element of concern. I mean, we've talked about a plenty
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: on this show, a lot of just developing secondary rushers,
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: and I think that's why, like a guy like Lebrian Ray,
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: who's showing some pop in the pass rush, um, you know,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: even a quality a little bit, I think not so
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: much maybe the last couple of practices, but like it
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: just seems like if this defense got some quickness, Yeah,
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: I think like, you know, those guys they're not like
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: it's obvious when it's guy god Chaw and carlt of
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: us out there and those you know the three big
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: space eat and two gap kind of defensive linemen up there. Um,
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: but the other guys that that have some of that
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: space you're learning at all. We'll put you up on
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: the whiteboard later, a little three breaking down for you.
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: It's these guys you're you're not breaking it down as
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: well as he really doubt. Yeah, but I think you know,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: getting those guys that that can add a secondary rush.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I think that's maybe one of the most critical things
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: of this defense. We talk about the run defense and
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: all that, but like, ultimately the end of the day,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: if you're not getting after Josh Allen in the backfield
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: and getting him and taking him to the ground, He's
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: gonna make plays and so unique guys that can go
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: get him, you're not gonna beat guys like him, Guys
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: like two in the RPO when you've got a bunch
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: of guys who right off the snap they just stand
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: there and hold their ground and let two kind of
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: sit there and pick the spot. Yeah, you just say
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: that because you saw him on TV behind us? Was
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: he Josh? Now I got Josha on the brain. I
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: know that buffalo. What I was thinking, I didn't know
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: if you watch him, but they just showed like digs
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: just running across er ands. It is like I was like,
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: they can do. That's what he's looking for from Aga.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: The one guy though that has popped sometimes in the
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: pass rush that he had one rep in one on
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: ones I think it was on the second padded practice
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: and they haven't let him rep one on ones again.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: But mac Wilson has looked pretty good coming downhill, whether
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: it's an interior blitzer coming off the edge. I've liked
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: what I've seen from him so far in terms of
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: the speed of that position. He's a really really good athlete,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: all around great athlete. And so it was Rayqua McMillan.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: So maybe they can get some of that pressure from
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: the second level a little bit more than they did
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: last year. You know who they're gonna use in that regard,
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: And I think that he has been a quietly effective blitzer,
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: and I don't really like him in his traditional thumper
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: role as Bentley. Bentley, Yeah, every time they seem like
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: they have a stunt involving him, he gets there. Yeah.
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: You know sometimes you see like you dial up a
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: perfect blitz and it's there and the guy and he
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: either runs by the quarterback or he you know, takes
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: a bad angle, misses the tackle, and all of a
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: sudden you're in jeopardy because this defense was designed to
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: get him immediate pressure and you got it and you
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: didn't stop the play. Yeah, well, this is a good question.
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: I mean, you know, and I think we flirted with it.
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: I rather think we could say that we've seen Bentley
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: on the edge a little bit. I don't think that
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: that's that crazy, But I mean, are we looking at
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: maybe maybe a jump forward for Bentley in terms of
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: just expanding his role, not quite just being that kind
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: of standard. Like Paul said Thumper Mill of linebacker in
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: the middle, I actually love the idea of putting him
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: more on the line of scrimmage, just because it gets
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: him out of those foot races over the middle of
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: the field and coverage come back and you can get
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: guys Ray Kua. McMillan's a low four six forty guy
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: at two hundred and forty pounds. He can run right.
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: You know, Mac Wilson, great all around athlete, played basketball,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: played football. You know, he's he's a five star guy
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: at both sports and coming out of high school. So
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: I think that you have some two guys there that
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: are much better athletes, and then you start to incorporate
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: some of the safeties obviously as well, you know, Phillips, Dugger,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: maybe Josh Bledsoe, and all of a sudden, your second
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: level is a lot more dynamic. And Bentley, the one
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: thing that he does really, really well is take on
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: guys and put shoulders in to people, and that if
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: you're just asking him to set the edge, I mean,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: that's really all that he's got to do. So I
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: really liked the idea of him going out there, him
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: being sort of that sturdy, early down edge setting type
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: of presents. Let Jude on to off and do his
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: thing on the backside, and maybe you can get a
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: little bit better and more dynamic at the second level.
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: Do you have every guy on the roster's forty time memorized?
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: Is that not every guy? A lot a lot? So
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: four four four seven so much more positive than me.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: When he said that ray Qua mc millan runs a
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: four six, my immediately thought, plus, yeah, before we tightened
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: like that tightened, I to Ben that was actually the
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: first thing. But to be fair, a lot of people
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: are saying the Patriots don't have enough speed, they don't
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: have enough improved they improved. That's one thing that has
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: really popped out. And these practices, they're much faster than
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: the football. They've improved team speed at on both sides
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: of the ball, and I don't think there's an argument
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: to be made against that. I think my only question
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: with mac Wilson is just how involved can he get
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: because I think we've still seen him kind of on
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: the right field. I think more of us. I think
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: he's more of a sub guy. Yeah, I think he's
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: the guy though, and yeah, yeah, but see it when
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: when you're talking about McMillan and mac wilson as opposed
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: to High Tower in Van Noy. And I'm not saying
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: that High Tower they were both solid, solid players. High
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: Tower was at times great, but they couldn't run like
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: these guys. Yeah, they couldn't, I mean especially last year,
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: you know, at the tail end of their career. So
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: there's no there's no argument against the added speed. Well,
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: I think our time is about up two hours a
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: rifle and through it all again. Layout the schedule for
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: you guys who got tomorrow night in stadium practice, Probably
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: not too much going on, but well we'll be there
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: just in case, and we will record a quick little
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: recap afterwards in case anything big happens. Otherwise, we'll be
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: back at practice day and back at practice Tuesday, and
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: we'll be back on PU on Tuesday twelve to two.
