Transcript
- 0:00Hello there. It's most things Kenobi.
- 0:04This is the podcast you're looking for.
- 0:19Hello, everyone. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:21most things Kenobi. A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi
- 0:24and all things. Star Wars.
- 0:26I'm your host Leanne and I'm your host Lauren.
- 0:29And this week, we are diving into the last of and or because,
- 0:35wow, the last few episodes were truly amazing and the finale was
- 0:39a beautiful piece of artwork. Just like the entire show, some
- 0:43of the best writing that I've experienced in any show.
- 0:48Yeah, Yeah, ever it's beautiful. It's like a work of art.
- 0:52Like you said, it's fine. And then they stuck The Landing.
- 0:57Yes. Which were with Eddie that
- 1:00you're always so nervous that all the way up to the last
- 1:03minute. And even with this one
- 1:04post-credits, yes, it was a little seed.
- 1:07Oh God just you just like, are they gonna do it?
- 1:11They're gonna do it. So.
- 1:14Okay, so round of applause. Tony Gilroy, yes, Thank you.
- 1:19Tony Gilroy Diego, Luna everyone magnificent performance,
- 1:25beautiful writing. Absolutely spectacular acting on
- 1:29everyone's fucking point down to the like smallest roll, everyone
- 1:34was completely believable. Yes.
- 1:37And the finale, which, I mean, we'll stick to talking mostly
- 1:40about the finale today, but we have to cover, you know, some
- 1:43things about the episodes, leading up to the finale because
- 1:46holy cow. Yeah, we have I think the Last
- 1:49episode we covered was episode 7.
- 1:51So we have a lot between man. We never did an episode about
- 1:57one way out. I'm still not over it.
- 2:02I know it haunts me that episode haunts me still.
- 2:05Okay. Alright Round of Applause, Andy
- 2:08Serkis, he's a fucking genius. We all know this, right.
- 2:12Everything he's ever done from voice acting to fucking Golem to
- 2:17to this role. Is Planet of the Apes, right?
- 2:21He's such a well-rounded actor and he's believable, and he's
- 2:26emotional. And you get invested and this is
- 2:29my thing, I love Tom Hanks, right?
- 2:32And Tom Hanks is in a lot of movies, but I forget when I'm
- 2:37watching him, that it's Tom Hanks and that's the sign of a
- 2:40good actor or actress. Right?
- 2:42And that's how I feel about Andy Serkis and I forgot I was
- 2:46watching Andy Serkis in those episodes.
- 2:48Episodes with him and the ending of the one way out was yes.
- 2:54Just one dagger to my heart. Seriously, I the whole episode.
- 2:59Oh my God, right? From beginning, all the way to
- 3:02the end watching his transformation.
- 3:06It was great. He becomes so panicked, even
- 3:09though he's been the like Rock Solid.
- 3:12Yo, one of the floor the whole time like get this crazed.
- 3:16Look in his eyes when he's like. Come on guys.
- 3:18You can Win this round like don't fuck up right?
- 3:21And now he's just losing his shit that scene with him and
- 3:25Cassie and at the very beginning.
- 3:27Oh yeah. Oh good.
- 3:29Where Cassie and saying like power doesn't panic, right?
- 3:34I'd rather die fighting them and giving them what they want.
- 3:36And then keto says that later. That that was beautiful.
- 3:42I love that part. The most the speech right me
- 3:45too. Because at first he's just, I
- 3:48don't know. Know what was holding him back?
- 3:50Maybe because what you said, it seems like he knew he wasn't
- 3:53going to be able to get out from the beginning.
- 3:56I really truly believe when you are stuck in a position like
- 3:59that, all you have is your mind because you don't have a choice
- 4:02you don't have anything right? And so you stick to the one
- 4:05thing that sustains you and for him it was his countdown of how
- 4:09many shifts he had left and if he just stayed the straight and
- 4:13narrow maybe someday, you know that little glimmer of hope but
- 4:16he knew if he tried to break out, he wasn't I want anywhere.
- 4:20Yeah, but he did it for the people, everyone else and that's
- 4:23what made him a hero. The sacrifice is incredible and
- 4:29he says, his name, over the speaker, so they know who he is.
- 4:34I just I'm so worried about. I think the whole world has not
- 4:39stopped thinking about key. I I in my brain he got out
- 4:44somehow somehow grabbed something in and Float Tony,
- 4:48Gilroy He said he said he didn't die.
- 4:51So good. Okay but that could not they
- 4:55could probably not good. Just could be snoke, he could
- 4:58be, don't say spoiler alert it's possible.
- 5:10I think batida said she checked the timeline and it could work.
- 5:14He could have been taken by the emperor and headaches.
- 5:18Pyramids done or something voice of snoke?
- 5:22Yeah, I know, that's so, okay. All right, was it?
- 5:25Yeah, the okay. Fuck Palpatine anyway.
- 5:32Andy Serkis did say, around this time, he said something online
- 5:36about how he would love to know more about snoke's backstory.
- 5:39And then this episode, no mouse, don't say it is like are you
- 5:43saying that because this is sucked.
- 5:45Next, I won't accept this. I can't accept it.
- 5:49I won't my heart. Can't take it.
- 5:51No, no. In my mind.
- 5:53He took one of the bad guys killed him.
- 5:57Threw him over jumped and then use the body as a floating
- 6:00device. I like it.
- 6:02Okay, bodies float. So I'm assuming.
- 6:07Yeah, without a raft, I loved his speech because at first he
- 6:12was kind of timid and shy and then he looks at Cassian and
- 6:16starts using Cassie ins were And you see this look and kassian
- 6:20size, like, what's happening? The dynamic is changing here.
- 6:24Cassie and is a leader whether he wants to be or not, he's a
- 6:27leader. Yeah and I love seeing him by
- 6:31the very end of the show. He comes into this beautiful
- 6:34full circle where you see he looks more like a sea and from
- 6:38Rogue one and the way he talks and says to the group like I
- 6:42will find you, it's not about surviving anymore.
- 6:46It's about having a code that it lives by herself.
- 6:48Some sort of like keeping his word actually means something
- 6:51now, you know. Yeah.
- 6:53Really rewarding to see after Marv.
- 6:56Has stunning speech. Okay.
- 6:59How cool is it to have like a post-mortem speech?
- 7:04Why don't we do that? That who would be so moving?
- 7:08I feel like that would be really weirdly poetic.
- 7:12Yeah, that it's your final word. Why wouldn't you record it and
- 7:17save it, you know? I mean, Tony Stark did it in The
- 7:20Avengers. So last will and testament,
- 7:24right? So I guess mine would say Star
- 7:29Wars is pain, that's all it needs to.
- 7:34That's all the news to say. But you know what, they Disney
- 7:38robbed us of what Marvel was supposed to say.
- 7:40Right? I do.
- 7:42Yes, I know which maybe someday we'll get out take of about.
- 7:47Yeah. I do love the fact that she was
- 7:51supposed to say, fuck the Empire, but I think we all know
- 7:54that. That's exactly what she meant
- 7:55anyway and just just knowing that that was supposed to be
- 8:00her. Final word is good enough.
- 8:03So Chris, she's the hbic head bitch in charge of farex and
- 8:07everyone. Yeah, I love seeing how much the
- 8:11community loved her. Oh the communal.
- 8:16What what they built on farex with Community itself with the
- 8:21music and the procession and the uniforms.
- 8:26And what did they chant sky and stone?
- 8:29Sky and stone. I think that's beautiful.
- 8:32Yes, and Rebecca pointed out. One of our patrons pointed out
- 8:36that Lutheran's Khyber. They gave to Cassie and was it
- 8:41Sky Stone. Well, holy shit.
- 8:45It's like a sky Khyber. So I, I was like, that's a
- 8:47really interesting. Testing tie-in.
- 8:50I wonder you know. Nothing is no an accident of the
- 8:54show. Not at all.
- 8:56That's beautiful. Actually, I loved I loved the
- 8:59whole vibe of farex honestly. Well, now that I know what they
- 9:03do with the ashes, it's fucking fantastic, they pour it into the
- 9:09bricks that continue to hold up the foundation of the place
- 9:12where they lived. That is beautiful.
- 9:15Yeah. And your name is on it so you
- 9:17can find that Person on the wall and like like when Cassie and oh
- 9:22my God, that was awful. Wasn't it?
- 9:23It's so painful. So painful and one of my
- 9:26favorite scenes, honestly, I love the dynamic between Cassie
- 9:31and and Clem and Marvin. Hmm, because they're not a
- 9:35perfect family unit, you know, there's tension, obviously they
- 9:39have fights and disagreements. But there's real deep love there
- 9:43and it's really fucking refreshing to see that Dynamic
- 9:48and A family because so many times in TV shows and movies the
- 9:52tension in the story comes from tension in the family or like,
- 9:57right kids fighting with their parents.
- 9:59It's like not everyone loves their parents but sometimes
- 10:04people still love their parents when they're grown-ups like
- 10:07yeah. This is or at least respect
- 10:09them. Like it was very clear Cassie
- 10:11and respected. Both of them.
- 10:13Yes. And that they taught him really
- 10:15important life lessons. Yes.
- 10:18And he He loved them. It was clear.
- 10:21He did the best he could, they did the best they could.
- 10:24I think it's beautiful and Clem's quote.
- 10:28I'm going to try and read some of these quotes from the finale
- 10:31because I think they were all very beautiful and they this is
- 10:35what really got me were some of the main quotes of the episode
- 10:39Clem as Cassie and is having his little flashback memory.
- 10:43Clem says people don't look down to where they should they don't
- 10:46look down. They don't look past the The
- 10:48rust, not us though. A eyes open possibilities
- 10:52everywhere and I love that as a symbol.
- 10:56You know, due to I did you. And it made me think for a
- 11:00second, that maybe that's why he saw something in Gin.
- 11:06Yes. In like, didn't see in herself
- 11:08at first. Yeah.
- 11:10And they kind of talked about that a little bit more in the
- 11:12book because they're inside, the characters had more but that he
- 11:15sees like a need in Jin's eyes. And can't help himself, but to
- 11:21help her, that was such a beautiful moment with Clem
- 11:25totally. And it's, I loved the symbolism
- 11:28of it because the Rebellion wasn't as polished and pretty
- 11:32inexpensive as the empire was, right?
- 11:35So, they were always looked down upon like Scrappers, and they
- 11:38were just a hoodlums or something.
- 11:40I Scrappy Bunch put together thrown together, you know?
- 11:43And they you think about it in Rebels, you think about it in
- 11:47Rogue one and of Of course, in the original trilogy, they're
- 11:51literally scrapping things together to pull this Rebellion
- 11:54off, and that's looking past the rust, to the beautifulness
- 11:57that's in the rebellion and past the shiny Parts, which is the
- 12:01Empire. They have all the opulence, but
- 12:04none of the heart. And so the ability to see past
- 12:07the Russ, I love that phrase because they were just talking
- 12:11about whatever they were cleaning those parts.
- 12:13You know, you can make something beautiful out of something that
- 12:16appears broken or You know past his prime.
- 12:21I just loved it. It was so simple.
- 12:23It's the writing in the show I'm telling you my God I can't shake
- 12:28my head hard enough. You're saying right now because
- 12:31it's so you're so right, you know, they're all about the
- 12:34underestimated. The underdog.
- 12:36Yeah, yeah. Look at my god, when fucking
- 12:40Deidre went down, it was her acting was fantastic too, and
- 12:43she's clawing. So, I felt that she's clawing
- 12:46through the people in this, they're stampeding and Stepping
- 12:49all over and kicking her and I thought she was a goner for
- 12:52sure. It's you.
- 12:53As like, wow, she got hit with a rock.
- 12:55Oh, wow, she got kicked in the face.
- 12:57Yeah, like that's crazy. That's brutal.
- 12:59And I wouldn't have been sad if I mean her acting and her
- 13:03character is so interesting and vital at this point that I would
- 13:07have missed her if they de killed her off.
- 13:09But of course but there was something weirdly satisfying
- 13:13yeah that after what she did to Bix and how wrong she is just in
- 13:17every way. I love that because we don't get
- 13:21to see that with female characters very often, and
- 13:23ambitious, yeah, woman like this, and they did it on
- 13:28purpose. I mean, they've even said they
- 13:29made you root for her in the first few episodes.
- 13:31And then you see this ruthless isn't her and you're like, oh,
- 13:34she is a scary woman. All right.
- 13:37Yeah, she's don't get on her bad side.
- 13:40Well, Cyril. Really is trying not to get on.
- 13:43What is why you talk about zero? I have a question.
- 13:47Why are you so Oh, God damn creepy.
- 13:49Why why? Okay, I, I'm really
- 13:54uncomfortable with the like, romantic.
- 13:57I don't like it either. Yeah, I don't like it either.
- 13:59No, it does not ring true to her character whatsoever to me.
- 14:04Nope, and I'm actually really irritated that they would even
- 14:08bring romance in. Can we just have one fucking
- 14:11character female character that doesn't have to be swept off her
- 14:14feet with a hole. Like, hold on, I am not sold
- 14:18yet. This is going to turn into a
- 14:19romance. I think he's already Cyril.
- 14:22Is already Head Over Heels, right?
- 14:24I think she's just learning how to respect somebody.
- 14:29I know you might just be at that level.
- 14:32They filmed it though. Like, they were romantic.
- 14:35Like the cinematography was intimacy.
- 14:38It really style true. So that doesn't necessarily have
- 14:41to be romantic intimacy, but still like it made me extremely
- 14:46uncomfortable. I hope that was the point.
- 14:49Aye, aye. It was, I don't like any of it.
- 14:53Now, I'm not saying I don't like the actor and the actress.
- 14:56I'm saying the character. Yes, sir, they are both playing
- 15:02themselves, very well, their characters, I should say, the
- 15:05yes, I don't I can't think of Cyril's actual the actor's name
- 15:10off the top of my head but he does a fantastic job.
- 15:12Okay. I don't think he's a fucking
- 15:14creep in real life. No, but he doesn't fetch a good
- 15:18actor. Yeah.
- 15:19That we believe it. Like when he shows up at the at
- 15:22the Imperial that is B and she's look at the fuck.
- 15:26What the fuck are you doing here?
- 15:28And I'm like, exactly Get out of here Cyril.
- 15:31You could like, and she's like are you stalking me?
- 15:34Yeah. What the fuck's?
- 15:39Such a badass, she's so scary to but the fact that she's scary
- 15:43like that and it doesn't put him off.
- 15:46No, just doubles down on how much you like, sir.
- 15:49Look at his mother, he's been dealing with strong women, his
- 15:51whole life, maybe it's a thing for him.
- 15:54I love that woman. She's a Spitfire, isn't she?
- 15:58Oh my, God when he gets the phone call in the middle of the
- 16:02night and her response, is the mystery of your former triumphs
- 16:06has been vanquished, love that like I can sleep peacefully now.
- 16:14It's like you are just such a ruthless bitch and I roast
- 16:18'less. It's so heartless.
- 16:21God, she's my hero. Yeah, she's she's she's small
- 16:25but very Mighty yes, there was that moment where He told her,
- 16:30she had, he had gotten a promotion and her personality
- 16:33switched and she was like, I'm so proud, there's a boba, he
- 16:37picks a piece of cereal up off the kitchen, table it stares at
- 16:41it and throws it into his bowl and my immediate subconscious
- 16:46response or maybe it was conscious, I don't know.
- 16:47Was he's going to murder her? Oh, I mean maybe shit.
- 16:53I was like cinematically. That looks like he's gonna kill
- 16:57her. He's about to snap.
- 16:59If Deidre turns him down and his mother keeps on him, he's going
- 17:03to murder a lot of people methinks.
- 17:06Yes, yes, I think you're right. He doesn't handle rejection.
- 17:09Well, as we've seen, he's gonna stamp, there's so much to cover.
- 17:15There's so many like, let's go back to one way out, okay, just
- 17:21one more time because the guy, the character who ends up with
- 17:24Cassie and at the end he ends up on Ron's care if he's part of
- 17:28the Is Mel she so he makes it yes, yes.
- 17:33He makes it except he does Arif right?
- 17:36But his his Escape was not in vain.
- 17:39He went on to go do greater things.
- 17:41I loved that was it the ending of that one or the ending of the
- 17:47next one? I guess it's the ending of The
- 17:49Next Episode, the daughter of farex where they've escaped and
- 17:52they go to what is it? Yeah, mostly ammos.
- 17:57Whatever that Island my Ami's. Yes, Star Wars Miami.
- 18:01Yes. And kassian calls home and finds
- 18:04that about Marva, and he and Mel's you are standing on the
- 18:07beach and they're both so emotional, but for different
- 18:11reasons that scene is so good. And so it's just like so fucking
- 18:17devastating these episodes to re-watch them.
- 18:20Now that I like knew what was coming.
- 18:22And I wasn't so nervous because I was really nervous watching
- 18:25all of these episodes. Yeah.
- 18:26Stood know who we were gonna see suffer.
- 18:29I mean, the buildup in the finale, alone with the music and
- 18:33the processions, and we know that everyone's looking for
- 18:36Cassie. And, and, and, and, and everyone
- 18:40is there. Every character is there.
- 18:42We've got Val, we've got everyone when Brasso gives
- 18:46kassian Marv has worked like personal message, my God.
- 18:52I mean, it makes you so proud of Cassie and to know that he'd
- 18:56really goes on to do exactly what she says.
- 18:59A quote, tell him, he knows everything.
- 19:01He needs to know and feels everything he needs to feel,
- 19:04which I think she's referring to that love.
- 19:07Comment that she made. Well, that's just love, you
- 19:09know, which I, I loved that moment between them as well.
- 19:12Yes, the quote then goes on to say and when the day comes and
- 19:15those to pull together, he will be an Unstoppable Force for good
- 19:19and that's obviously what ends up happening with him and Jan
- 19:22and what they do and it's beautiful foreshadowing that she
- 19:26didn't get to see. She didn't get to see the result
- 19:28of it, but she knew Anyway. And I think that was it was
- 19:31perfect that Brasso was the one to give the message because he's
- 19:34a good guy. Yeah, he hit myself in the face
- 19:38with a brick with Marvis ashes in it, I don't have any other
- 19:41hero but him there is nobody better than him when he hit
- 19:46someone with her brick. I fucking love that so much take
- 19:51that you fascist. Yeah, right Gina and then go
- 19:57ahead. That is just so much to cover.
- 19:59I know there really is there so much it like the the way he and
- 20:03kiss and hug each other. Oh, I know.
- 20:05Oh it, you put it on our Instagram.
- 20:08It's the way he hugs this Djinn Djinn.
- 20:11Yeah, yeah, there's good. And it's like, he's even holding
- 20:17onto kassian in the exact same spot like clutching his hand
- 20:20into the back of his shirt. Yes.
- 20:22And that's not, that's not an accident either.
- 20:25No, it's so beautiful and to see friends like two male friends,
- 20:29Is hugging like, yeah, it was so beautiful to me, because a lot
- 20:32of the guys that I know feel that way about their friends, it
- 20:35especially if they've experienced loss, you know.
- 20:37Yes, there isn't that, like, toxic mix masculinity of like,
- 20:42guys don't feel, you know, guys don't hug, you don't show,
- 20:45emotion. It's an amount of that like in
- 20:48real life, like not in movies with the men that I know they
- 20:52show, emotion, and affection, and comfort to each other,
- 20:54especially, when their mother has died, you know, it was such
- 20:59A beautiful moment. And then when he said that line,
- 21:02the last line that what did she say exactly like I love him more
- 21:07than anything he could do wrong. Yes.
- 21:09Like that correct? Yes.
- 21:11The brought tears to my eyes is so beautiful.
- 21:14That's that's a mother's love right there.
- 21:16Yes to see that he was an adopted son loved just as much.
- 21:21Absolutely. I think that was really
- 21:23beautiful. It was the funeral when be too
- 21:28emo. Me too.
- 21:30I was so afraid for that Droid me too.
- 21:35I was going to turn it off if they did something to him.
- 21:37Luckily he made it kick, it kick it kassian, I love him so much,
- 21:43it's so sad. I know pasta and just hug him, I
- 21:47know, but I'm glad that he delivered Marv.
- 21:51Has you know hologram? Yes, yes, okay, so the guy that
- 21:55runs out from the Empire that like throws his jacket over him,
- 21:58a kick, some whatever happens that stops.
- 22:00Yeah, that's actually rhaegar Targaryen from Game of Thrones.
- 22:04Did anyone catch it? Oh, I didn't do.
- 22:06Okay. I just said, what the fuck are
- 22:08you doing here? Rhaegar the fuck rhaegar, was
- 22:13short hair anyway and Thrones people if you give you saw it.
- 22:19Yep, that happened. So he's a good guy.
- 22:23Not a bad guy. I just left it.
- 22:25Like the minute he kicks be to over.
- 22:27Oh yeah, it's over. But everyone Like kill the
- 22:30Empire. Yeah, they must die.
- 22:32Did you happen to notice that the colors of the band and the
- 22:38daughters of farex are essentially with the colors of
- 22:41the Rebellion, like the gold and maroon, and hmm.
- 22:45Like, you know, how they wear, like the mustard colored onesies
- 22:50and then have the red Rebel symbol.
- 22:53Yeah. I don't think that was an
- 22:55accident either and also the squadron's Are the same colors
- 23:00green read&write gold. They were all represented in the
- 23:04Square during the funeral. Yes I loved that.
- 23:08They had a funeral dirge in A procession like yes New Orleans.
- 23:13Yes, it was. And I think you pointed out to
- 23:16you that that's the and or theme it is the end or feeling like or
- 23:20Cassius theme or whatever you want to call it.
- 23:22But that right what they're playing.
- 23:24I thought that was so great. I love that because and I just
- 23:27have to say that having grown up in Musical family, hearing the
- 23:32bands like arm up, wasn't a so nostalgic for me and yeah buddy.
- 23:37Like it cracks me up. But I also love it because it's
- 23:39everybody's just kind of like, in their own Zone.
- 23:42Yeah. Like it coming up here on
- 23:43experiment. Yes, exactly.
- 23:46And I was also somebody in the Empire says offhand.
- 23:50Like, what are they doing? Where's that music coming from?
- 23:51It's coming from everywhere. Like, what are they doing?
- 23:53And it's like, yeah, they're warming up, they're getting
- 23:54themselves ready. Like, that's what happens when
- 23:57when like a symphony warms up. And yes, this is what a
- 24:00reckoning sounds like. Yes, exactly.
- 24:02It was very akin to the metal clanging that they were getting.
- 24:07Yeah, I kept thinking what a fucking Community.
- 24:10This is right. Like, who lives in a town like
- 24:14this where everyone I don't, I sure don't either, it's amazing.
- 24:19It's actually really kind of beautiful to see and I just have
- 24:23to say the bell ringer kick a stormtrooper out of the tower
- 24:28where apps Butley listen, I knew that, that, man, had it from
- 24:33like, the first episode we saw him, but I didn't realize he
- 24:35took his job. That seriously, that man is
- 24:37everything I love him. So good.
- 24:40I was like yes, nothing is gonna stop that man, from doing that
- 24:43job. Nothing.
- 24:45And then the Cutaway to see the body just like, yeah.
- 24:47Right. I had very gratifying, we're
- 24:53good. We should do.
- 24:55We have to do like an episode where we just look at Rogue.
- 24:59Ugh, one parallels, because they're just so many, like, even
- 25:02the way Cassie and is supporting Bix on the way out.
- 25:05All right. Gin is supporting him at the end
- 25:08of Rogue one. Then Marva is a hologram and
- 25:12Galen are so is a hollow. Yes it's so cool.
- 25:16It's so much. It was the wrap up that I was
- 25:19hoping for. But yeah we did get to hear part
- 25:23of the manifesto. Did you remember that part where
- 25:25he's playing it? It's at a very important part,
- 25:29the It goes, if I may read it because I think it's important.
- 25:32Yes, please. It's so symbolic of today
- 25:38yesterday and all of Star Wars fantasy, and real life.
- 25:42It says Karis nemec anemic would however you pronounce it.
- 25:47He says, quote, the Imperial need for control is so desperate
- 25:53because it is so unnatural tyranny, requires constant
- 25:57effort. It breaks it leaks, X Authority
- 26:00is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
- 26:04The day will come, when all these skirmishes and battles
- 26:06these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the
- 26:09Empire's Authority, and then there will be one too many one
- 26:13single thing will break The Siege.
- 26:15Remember this try I love that. Try the thing that struck me was
- 26:24re-watching. It is kassian.
- 26:26Is the thing that breaks The Siege.
- 26:28Yeah, they show him kind of their framing him from behind
- 26:32and he's like kind of in a circle of light and then as they
- 26:35say that they cut to his face. Hmm.
- 26:38And it really hit home to me, all of a sudden that he's one of
- 26:41the most important characters in Star Wars.
- 26:44Yeah, because he was a tell Donny and he's the reason L
- 26:48Donnie was successful. Correct was the statement that
- 26:52the Rebellion is taking place that like Insurrection against
- 26:55the empire is now an organized thing.
- 26:59And then he's also the reason the Death Star plans were
- 27:03successful, like he got them all the way to the Finish Line.
- 27:07Again, sacrificing his own body along the way.
- 27:11Yeah. If they had never accomplished
- 27:13either of those two things, the Rebellion would never be what it
- 27:16became and the rest of all the rest of Star Wars.
- 27:19So I think it's kind of cool that this quiet kind of
- 27:24understated character, right? Who's a little bit taken for
- 27:28granted. In Rogue.
- 27:29One is just being like a character in Rogue one.
- 27:31Yeah, it's like he's actually the reason the Rebellion is
- 27:34successful. The Rebellion exist because of
- 27:37him, well, it all hinges on the word try, because him and Jin
- 27:41had to try. They had to try.
- 27:44Yeah, they had to try because otherwise, if they didn't try,
- 27:46they knew it was there. They were done for.
- 27:50It was over before it even began.
- 27:51And so I love that that Manifesto quote, that part
- 27:56highlighting Cassie and ended on the word try because it's a
- 27:59reminder to all of us. You know, you have to at least
- 28:02try, you know. Yeah.
- 28:03Even if you're unlikely to succeed, if you do nothing then
- 28:07yeah of course your you'll never make a difference right after
- 28:11seeing that seeing I'm more convinced.
- 28:13Now, that that actually is the manifesto on his jacket.
- 28:16It has to be. Yeah, I know people were saying,
- 28:18thatthat seems, Realistic because if you ever got captured
- 28:21well, sure. But it's a constant reminder to
- 28:23him of what he has to do. Yeah.
- 28:26And it all goes back to everything in this season one.
- 28:29I'll Donnie exactly luthan. Every everybody that was
- 28:33sacrificed his mother, you know, everything.
- 28:35They all tried. Yeah.
- 28:38And it's like the foundation that started giving him strength
- 28:40again to to take agency in his life, which he's never really
- 28:44had until these last few episodes.
- 28:47Yeah, I think it's more Quickly that even if the manifesto is
- 28:51not inside the box, it's a representative of it because
- 28:55it's tied the same way as the manifesto and everything.
- 28:58I'll be interested to see how they if they even discuss it in
- 29:01season 2. But I loved that we got to even
- 29:03hear part of the manifesto because it was so beautifully
- 29:05written again, like thanks for reading the quote because it's I
- 29:09thought that was absolutely remarkable.
- 29:11Well you know his character with doing the manifesto in the way
- 29:15that he had like philosophies and stuff is a little bit like
- 29:18cheer it, right? They're like the soul behind
- 29:21what's going on physically. You know, they have this
- 29:24presence, that's more Soulful more.
- 29:28I don't want to say religious, but almost like a spiritual
- 29:32belief. Yeah.
- 29:34And they put it so eloquently, and I think, you know, it takes
- 29:38a bunch in every group. There's always the one, right?
- 29:41That's like the soul. Mmm, you know, the the spirit.
- 29:45But we haven't even talked about mon mothma yet.
- 29:49God, her stuff is so good. She is a plotting deceiving,
- 29:56smart woman and she's turning. People have been saying that
- 30:00she's taking the moral path and she's proving that she is not
- 30:04afraid to be ruthless. She's gonna let her daughter
- 30:08follow that old-fashioned path of marriage to protect her own
- 30:12finances. As she, I'm sorry, she fucking
- 30:15threw her own husband. Under the bus, 100%.
- 30:18She knew what she knew. Knew that man was listening.
- 30:20She knows she knows all this shit, right?
- 30:22And dudes, I think it's hilarious.
- 30:24That the I just think it's hilarious.
- 30:26That the husband didn't think anything of it.
- 30:28That's how stupid he is. He thought that no one was
- 30:32listening. Are you that oblivious sir?
- 30:35Anyway, I'm glad she's throwing him under the bus.
- 30:37She is setting up this whole thing perfectly.
- 30:39These are the other spokes of the wheel that have to turn in
- 30:42order to make this Rebellion a success.
- 30:44And it's no wonder that she's going to rise to the top because
- 30:48she's about to do whatever is necessary.
- 30:49Necessary so Lutheran's doing what he's got to do.
- 30:52She's doing what she's got to do, neither of them.
- 30:56Neither of them give a fuck. How it's gonna take, what they
- 31:00got to do to get it done, right? It's tearing them both up a bit.
- 31:05I think we see that. It's like a sacrifice that needs
- 31:08to be made for the greater good and will be taken advantage of
- 31:12by people who never had to even see what they sacrificed.
- 31:16But you see how it really weighs heavily on them?
- 31:19And that speaking of that, the whole speech Lutheran's speech
- 31:24when he's talking to me or It's so good.
- 31:27He's Jesus Christ. Is it good?
- 31:30Did I call it or not? About all ginger-haired guy.
- 31:33You did 100%. And I said it to you privately,
- 31:36but I'll say it here publicly. You fucking called that from
- 31:39like day, one that he was somebody and you were right?
- 31:43There's like it's so I felt so validated when I found out.
- 31:47He was actually, it's, as you should do it, I knew it.
- 31:52Anyway, that's speech was one of the most brilliant pieces of
- 31:56Writing and acting. Well, I have I have to read it.
- 32:01Please, I mean and to see it written on the page, right?
- 32:05And then for the actor to take that and breathe life into its
- 32:08own Skarsgard, honestly everyone in this show needs a fucking
- 32:12award. Please absolutely please please
- 32:15so good. All right.
- 32:16Here's the entire speech. Give me time to read this
- 32:20because it's a good one. I don't think anyone's gonna
- 32:23complain The question was, what do you sacrifice and Lutheran
- 32:27response with some of the best shit I've ever heard?
- 32:30And it goes like this. Calm kindness.
- 32:35Kinship love, I've given up all chance at inner peace.
- 32:39I've made my mind a sunless place.
- 32:41I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an
- 32:44equation, I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one
- 32:48conclusion. I'm damned for what I do my
- 32:51anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield.
- 32:54My eagerness to fight. They've set me on a path from
- 32:57which There Is No Escape. I yearn to be a savior against
- 33:01Injustice without contemplating the cost.
- 33:03And by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground
- 33:06beneath my feet, what is My Sacrifice?
- 33:09I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them.
- 33:13I burned my decency for someone else's future.
- 33:16I burned my life to make a sunrise that I know, I'll never
- 33:18see. And the ego that started.
- 33:21This fight will never have a mirror or an ants or the light
- 33:24of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice
- 33:27everything? Oh my God.
- 33:32I like feel like tears welling up in my eyes.
- 33:34Any other? I love the line.
- 33:36I burned. My decency.
- 33:38Yeah and and we C. Mon mothma doing something
- 33:41similar. Yeah.
- 33:43And if that's what it takes that if that's what it takes they're
- 33:46willing to do it and I got chills reading that and I can't
- 33:49do it a Skarsgard Justice here obviously but his delivery will
- 33:54go. That quote will live on.
- 33:56It's up there with some of the the best quotes and Star Wars.
- 33:59URS. Absolutely, I don't know there's
- 34:00one person who didn't say how moved they were by that quote
- 34:04that that yes speech on I Rubin heard of people like reading it
- 34:09out loud to family members and stuff shit.
- 34:11Yeah, this is so incredible. I have to share with somebody,
- 34:14you know, it's really amazing. And I've seen art with pieces of
- 34:20that speech in the art passed around online.
- 34:23It's beautiful. I mean, it's really, it's really
- 34:26inspiring and it's not. It's not without grit.
- 34:30It's not without like something bad in it and he knows it, but
- 34:35he's accepted it. It's actually, it's a little bit
- 34:39hopeless for him. Yeah, it's like he's accepted
- 34:44that. Yeah, but he's accepted and I
- 34:46think that's just fucking amazing his his performance.
- 34:51I think was my favorite of all the characters and every single
- 34:56one of them was fantastic. I mean, down to the minut facial
- 35:00movements of some of the even smaller characters like you
- 35:03said, but he above all played two different characters.
- 35:08With one similar spine will say he deserves An award they all
- 35:13do. They all do?
- 35:17Yeah, I just can't wrap my head around.
- 35:21How good this show was. I mean, this is one speech and
- 35:24this wasn't even the only speech in that episode that was from
- 35:29one way out which is the same episode where Keno gives his
- 35:32amazing speech. And there's an incredible about
- 35:36of dialogue between Mon mothma and Dev.
- 35:39Oh yeah Banker yeah it was incredible.
- 35:43I love that. He has that lion, a drop of
- 35:45discomfort maybe the Price of doing business.
- 35:49He's right understatement of a lifetime.
- 35:52Yeah, shit. There's just so many beautiful
- 35:56pieces of dialogue from this entire show.
- 35:58I know you and I have talked about maybe doing an episode of
- 36:00our favorite. Yes, it's because there's just
- 36:03so many good ones. This is some of the best writing
- 36:06I've ever seen anywhere period and it's a story.
- 36:10It's funny. I don't know if you've seen the
- 36:12scuttlebutt on line of some individuals will I say
- 36:17bad-mouthing this show for it being.
- 36:20How do I phrase it for being a little too pedestrian?
- 36:25In what way? People will know what I mean?
- 36:27When I say this but there's been a lot of talk about how bricks
- 36:31shouldn't be in Star Wars. Yes, I have heard about this and
- 36:36I think this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
- 36:39We'll leave it at that. This is a beautiful show.
- 36:41If it wasn't your cup of tea, that's fine too.
- 36:44That's why there are so many facets to Star Wars.
- 36:47Point is that brick and mortar are foundations?
- 36:52And yes, is a foundation of a movement.
- 36:56Thank you. Lord God, if we gotta spell it
- 36:59out, we will thank you, Lauren. I just, I saw that going around
- 37:04and that is the stupidest criticism I've ever heard.
- 37:08I don't know the context. I didn't see it.
- 37:10You don't need to do that context.
- 37:11It's no fun, I'm fine without checking out.
- 37:15The context of that, all I could say is, That there's no fucking
- 37:18rules about what? Textures exist in Star Wars.
- 37:23They could use whatever goddamn textures they want, look he's
- 37:27lived in trees and can't was. Okay, so listen, that's more
- 37:31than. Okay God damn it.
- 37:34Listen, I don't know if people are geologists or not, I'm not
- 37:37but I know a little bit about geology.
- 37:39If a planet has some kind of mineral you have to use that
- 37:42mineral to live on said Planet, that's just the way of things.
- 37:46I mean. Look at our planet shit or don't
- 37:51because we're just drawing it. But look at the Variety though
- 37:54and we're one planet. So you want to tell me and then
- 37:58entire galaxy that there's not one planet that can have stone
- 38:01and brick. Fuck off, okay.
- 38:04And you said this is the foundation, it's it's like drink
- 38:08out of my mug that says she has a bug rows here.
- 38:12She's got a god of love. It's love grows here.
- 38:16It's green like Like the Wookiees trees.
- 38:18What about the attack on the Wookiees?
- 38:24That's one of my favorite quotes is Star.
- 38:26Wars God, I hate that guy. It's such a buzzkill, isn't it?
- 38:33Fuck you that are Old Wagon. Master Mondeo is throwing water
- 38:39on the Fire. Oh my God I hate him so much.
- 38:44Okay, real quick at least I want to talk about the last seen with
- 38:48please Jesse. And and yes in and this.
- 38:49Yes, yes. Well that's how we'll end this
- 38:51episode. I knew Cassian was going to be
- 38:54there because he knew where the ship was and he had already put
- 38:57it together after seeing luthan in the Town Square.
- 38:59He knew why he was there. And so the fact that he went
- 39:02there and was waiting for him and he said, kill me or take me
- 39:06in and he has tears in his eyes. Yeah.
- 39:11That can we just say finally that Diego?
- 39:16Luna is yeah, fucking excellent. Like yes, the way he shows
- 39:21emotion in this, you can tell he's emotional every time but he
- 39:25never gets melodramatic. No.
- 39:28You're right. You're right.
- 39:30Yeah. It's very realistic.
- 39:32It is it's a hardened kind of just kill me.
- 39:35I'm fine with it. I just lost everything.
- 39:38Yeah. I mean, have you ever had a pain
- 39:40that was so painful? Awful that if you actually
- 39:42started to like show the emotion, you would lose control.
- 39:46Yes. It's like you you actually hold
- 39:48onto it really tightly. You feel the emotion, you even
- 39:52get teary-eyed but if you let it take over you lose control.
- 39:56So yeah, that is to me and you could see him take a breath
- 40:01after losing kind of smiles. Well, I loved Lutheran smile.
- 40:06Yes, it's what he wanted all along, but he wanted it to be
- 40:10genuine. Wanted castien to want it and he
- 40:13did, he got it. He got there, his come full
- 40:16circle and I wonder if I kind of wondered because he keep taking
- 40:21the keep saying that they've taken an oath and I was like, is
- 40:25that the oath? Did he just give it without
- 40:27knowing it, probably, I loved that scene, it was good it and I
- 40:34they don't overwrite the show, right?
- 40:36So there are these long monologues are people get these
- 40:38incredible speeches and then there are things were barely any
- 40:42dialogue is exchanged and they're still so deeply
- 40:44meaningful. Like even think about Cyril
- 40:47coming to back to barracks and he's sitting next to the
- 40:49sergeant and they swap hand. They swap hats.
- 40:51Yeah, that was simple simple and it's very effective.
- 40:55Yes, no words. We totally understand these
- 40:59weirdos. Yes, it's true.
- 41:03It was so great. I just, I don't know if I can
- 41:07survive waiting two years for the next season.
- 41:11Well, the problem is, is I'm going to forget, maybe not, but
- 41:14my memory is terrible - to you. I'll have to just re-watch it.
- 41:18I guess. Well, we should we watch it
- 41:20together because, oh, that'd be fun.
- 41:22Do an and or re-watch. Oh, me and you would pause every
- 41:25five minutes to be like, what does that mean?
- 41:27Well, with this hat. Oh, that's a symbol for
- 41:29something. But that's why we love each
- 41:30other, right? Well, and, you know, how we'd
- 41:33watch clone wars and just rewind it so much that we would glitch
- 41:36out the program where we did it in.
- 41:39He did glitch it out, but that was just Still look at Obi-Wan's
- 41:41hair and his eyes sometimes. So yeah.
- 41:44Well I would do the same thing with casseon it.
- 41:46This is true. No shame.
- 41:51Well, how about that? That last post credit scene then
- 41:56that one will hurt a little bit because now we know what they
- 42:00were making and now we know that Cassie and had a hand in it but
- 42:04we know he has a hand and taking it down to so yeah, it was very
- 42:09double-edged It's painful. It is right?
- 42:13It's so sad because he's so passionate in Rogue one about
- 42:18Galen or so making it. Yes, he's really angry about.
- 42:22I wants kind of like justice for that.
- 42:24It's like, oh well, you made it to sweetheart, but he doesn't
- 42:27know. And that's, that's the shittiest
- 42:29part. I know.
- 42:30And hopefully, he'll never know, because that would just be
- 42:32horrific. No, I just do God as they say,
- 42:36is Bartok the bat says and Anastasia.
- 42:40This can only End in tears. Yes, that's okay.
- 42:45That's why we're here crying over Star Wars.
- 42:48It's our profession. It's our profession.
- 42:56The question we have for you this week is how do you feel
- 43:00about and, or as a whole, did you feel that?
- 43:02It came full circle where you, pleased, we've discussed all the
- 43:06things that we loved about it and the finale itself we gave it
- 43:0910/10, right? Mmm.
- 43:11Absolutely. So what's your score for the
- 43:14series as a whole, if I would have heard the first two
- 43:17episodes, I would give it a 10 out of 10, but I'm going to have
- 43:20to give it a 9 out of 10 for the entire series because I'm pretty
- 43:23sure I still don't know if I heard anything in the first two
- 43:25episodes. So that score from 1 to 10.
- 43:29What's your what's your score for the entire series?
- 43:32Let us know 11. This one goes to 11.
- 43:36Yeah it's one I resent it. All right, join us back here.
- 43:42Next week. We're going back to our usual,
- 43:44fare. We're going to talk some Obi-Wan
- 43:46Kenobi. Yes, we are.
- 43:47And Darth Maul, we're going to talk about Obi-Wan and malls
- 43:51relationship. And I think we're going to do
- 43:53this as a two-parter because there's a lot to dig into and
- 43:57we're starting from the top and going through the entire
- 43:59fucked-up relationship between those two.
- 44:02And it is definitely fucked up. Is really a twisted thing that I
