- 0:08Speaker 1: Advice Nice. Hello, Hello, Hello, welcome to the Naughty but
- 0:17Speaker 1: Nice Show. I know you were expecting to hear Rob's
- 0:19Speaker 1: lovely British accent today, but this is Corey Andrew hosting
- 0:23Speaker 1: a very special episode today. Now I'm going to be
- 0:27Speaker 1: turning the tables on Rob and I'm asking the questions
- 0:31Speaker 1: to celebrate his new book, The Foreword Answer, which you
- 0:33Speaker 1: can order right now on Amazon dot Com. Now. Rob
- 0:36Speaker 1: has worked with some of the biggest stars in the world,
- 0:38Speaker 1: Jennifer Lopez, P Diddy, Alicia Keys, Jessica Simpson, Jon bon Jovi,
- 0:43Speaker 1: even British Royalty, and now in his first book out
- 0:47Speaker 1: this week, Rob promises to make you the star of
- 0:51Speaker 1: your own life. So Hello Rob, Hello, I love a
- 0:54Speaker 1: love a life. Hey, I'm loving this already. Villa. When
- 1:01Speaker 1: you opened this show with a lava la la la,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I know it saunds even better in an American accent. Corey.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You can ask anything you want. You've got the book
- 1:09Speaker 1: a couple of days ago. Thank you for being so kind.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You texted me just after you've finished it. So we're
- 1:15Speaker 1: doing these special bonus shows really based on the book
- 1:19Speaker 1: and what the takeaway is in that book. So honestly, Corey,
- 1:23Speaker 1: nothing off record, nothing confidential, nothing scripted, whatever you wonderful. Look,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I'm really excited to do this interview, so thank you,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and we will just dive right in. Let's just begin
- 1:36Speaker 1: with something very simple. Explain what is the foreward answer? Oh,
- 1:43Speaker 1: the perfect question to begin with. So every smart person
- 1:47Speaker 1: that I ever met in my life, every successful person
- 1:51Speaker 1: I ever met over all the years I've been doing this,
- 1:55Speaker 1: they could describe themselves in just for herds one to three, four,
- 2:02Speaker 1: four words. If you think about it, it's the most
- 2:05Speaker 1: important question you're ever gonna ask or answer. Who are you?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Who are you? I would ask every one of those
- 2:15Speaker 1: big celebrities you mentioned when I first started working with them,
- 2:19Speaker 1: who are you? Tell me who you are? And this
- 2:23Speaker 1: is amazing. Only those that are comfortable in their own
- 2:27Speaker 1: skin could answer that question, and only those that could
- 2:31Speaker 1: answer the question Corey would go on to be successful.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I knew immediately which of my stars would go on
- 2:39Speaker 1: to be superstars. A lot of the big names, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but I also worked with people very early on in
- 2:44Speaker 1: their career. As one of the first first Tyra Banks,
- 2:47Speaker 1: before she became Tyra Banks, I represented her when she
- 2:50Speaker 1: was really a model, but she was not a supermodel.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yet I knew she was going to be successful because
- 2:57Speaker 1: Tyra knew exactly who she was. If you think about it,
- 3:02Speaker 1: just for a second, entire marketing departments, branding departments, even
- 3:08Speaker 1: PR departments are created with just one job is to
- 3:12Speaker 1: figure out who their client is in as few words
- 3:14Speaker 1: as possible, and then sell it and promote it. I
- 3:18Speaker 1: promise in the foreword answer You're going to figure out,
- 3:22Speaker 1: You're gonna find out, You're going to discover who you
- 3:26Speaker 1: are in just four worlds. That is amazing. And I'm
- 3:31Speaker 1: reading the book right now and the chapter that I
- 3:33Speaker 1: cannot stop thinking about rob is the chapter about believing
- 3:37Speaker 1: you are important. So let's chat about that for a moment.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Important is such an essential word. It's really a word
- 3:45Speaker 1: that did he used a lot, p did? Who was
- 3:47Speaker 1: my client for for a long time. Did He taught
- 3:51Speaker 1: me that the most important person in your life is you,
- 3:57Speaker 1: no body else, Puffy. Puffy showed me that when you
- 4:02Speaker 1: believe you are important, you become important. In fact, believing
- 4:06Speaker 1: you are important, though, has to start with you. It's
- 4:10Speaker 1: not a gift you can give somebody. I wish I
- 4:12Speaker 1: could put it in a little package, put a bow
- 4:14Speaker 1: on it, and give all my friends this gift because
- 4:18Speaker 1: they could open it up and then be important. It
- 4:20Speaker 1: doesn't work like that. I can't give it you, a
- 4:23Speaker 1: friend can't give it you, a teacher can't give it you.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You've got to give it yourself because nobody's coming along
- 4:30Speaker 1: to save you. You've got to believe you are important
- 4:34Speaker 1: and no one can make you feel unimportant without your consent.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You let people make you feel unimportant. And after you've
- 4:44Speaker 1: read the foreword answer, that isn't gonna happen anymore. You've
- 4:48Speaker 1: got to start believing you are important. There's a whole
- 4:51Speaker 1: chapter on this, Corey, and I think it's also to
- 4:54Speaker 1: one of my favorite chapters in the book. Oftentimes we're
- 4:58Speaker 1: always trying to find someone to s wort who we
- 5:00Speaker 1: are and what we're doing. But you say that by
- 5:02Speaker 1: the time others support you, this happens. What is that
- 5:06Speaker 1: please share with us. That is, by the time they
- 5:09Speaker 1: support you, you realize you never needed them at alls.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So once you've read the forward answer, you will realize
- 5:16Speaker 1: that at the moment I know it, there are people
- 5:18Speaker 1: in your life that you want to support you. You
- 5:21Speaker 1: want them to adore you and love you. They're not
- 5:24Speaker 1: going to. So many of us we tone it down,
- 5:28Speaker 1: hoping to tone up the support of others. It never
- 5:32Speaker 1: ever works. Be yourself because trying to win people over
- 5:38Speaker 1: who are not on board it's a full time game,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and it's a game that you are guaranteed to lose.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You're not gonna win this battle. When you start living
- 5:51Speaker 1: your life without needing approval from anybody else, you get
- 5:56Speaker 1: back not only an enormous amount of time that you're wasting,
- 6:00Speaker 1: but also an enormous amount of joy. In the forward answers,
- 6:06Speaker 1: we teach you how to shine. Never never dim your spotlight,
- 6:11Speaker 1: tell somebody else to put on a pair of sunglasses.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Be you, because you are important enough to be you. Yes. Yes,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Well that leads to my next question, which is very,
- 6:23Speaker 1: very similar and related. Now you have some great advice
- 6:26Speaker 1: for when people don't like you. Do what Hey, walk
- 6:31Speaker 1: away away. You're not going to win them over. Don't
- 6:35Speaker 1: hang out with people who don't like you. Just don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: do it. But I can tell you why you're doing it.
- 6:40Speaker 1: We really dig deep in the book. The reason you
- 6:43Speaker 1: hang out with people that don't like you is because
- 6:46Speaker 1: you don't feel important enough to stop. I said it.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You don't feel important enough to have people around you
- 6:54Speaker 1: that support you. I built an amazing network of friends,
- 6:58Speaker 1: knowing that like a bider and all, well, I'm the
- 7:01Speaker 1: center of my world. I really am. It all starts
- 7:04Speaker 1: with me. My life starts with me, Your life starts
- 7:06Speaker 1: with you. You're the center of your own network, so
- 7:10Speaker 1: you're responsible for building it. Surround yourself by the best
- 7:13Speaker 1: friends in the world, surround yourself by people that really
- 7:17Speaker 1: cheer you are, and that all starts with you, and
- 7:20Speaker 1: it all starts with the leaving. You are important enough
- 7:23Speaker 1: to have this network of friends, Corey. It's very daring
- 7:29Speaker 1: to meet new friends at any age, but I promise
- 7:32Speaker 1: you your tribe exists. There are people out there who
- 7:37Speaker 1: are gonna love you. You just haven't found them yet.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You've got to find them. And we have so many
- 7:43Speaker 1: different ways that you can go about that. In the
- 7:47Speaker 1: forward answer lots of really solid information. So it's not
- 7:51Speaker 1: just a book about feeling good. We also, which I'm
- 7:54Speaker 1: so proud about, in the book, we give you steps
- 7:58Speaker 1: to turn this into reality. Stop hanging out with people
- 8:03Speaker 1: that don't like you, because now you are important enough
- 8:06Speaker 1: to have people around you that adore you. You can
- 8:09Speaker 1: do it. Oh that's great advice. I'm going to take
- 8:11Speaker 1: that to heart absolutely. Now you also really get deep
- 8:15Speaker 1: in the book and you talk about the power of rejection,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and I have to tell you that I really find
- 8:21Speaker 1: your perspective on this to be life changing. It will
- 8:24Speaker 1: be yeah, so yeah, So share with me your thoughts
- 8:26Speaker 1: on on rejection and the power of rejection. It's so important.
- 8:29Speaker 1: This is one of my favorite parts of the book.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And when I realized this, a light bob went off,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and once again I gotta thank did he for it? Did?
- 8:36Speaker 1: He really is dominating this chapter. So rejection is a gift.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It's a gift. Puffy taught me how all rejection really
- 8:46Speaker 1: is is a gift telling you that whatever you thought
- 8:51Speaker 1: you actually wanted wasn't right for you. So, growing up,
- 8:56Speaker 1: I had the biggest crush on a guy in my
- 8:58Speaker 1: school called Craigs with He didn't want me. He rejected me.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Thank goodness he did, because now I found Bruce, the
- 9:08Speaker 1: love of my life. When I was growing up, I
- 9:10Speaker 1: wanted to go to Oxford or Cambridge, two of the
- 9:14Speaker 1: best universities. I failed the exam. I'm so glad I
- 9:17Speaker 1: did because I went to Edinburgh. I met Bruce in
- 9:20Speaker 1: Edinburgh and all my wonderful friends in Edinburgh. And the
- 9:23Speaker 1: reason I'm doing what I'm doing now is because I
- 9:26Speaker 1: went to Edinburgh. So that school you wanted to get
- 9:28Speaker 1: into that you didn't, It's a blessing that guy a
- 9:31Speaker 1: girl you wanted to date who didn't want to date you.
- 9:34Speaker 1: It is a good, good move because rejection, it doesn't
- 9:39Speaker 1: strip away your dreams. It leads you towards them. So
- 9:44Speaker 1: don't think of rejection anymore, as I know, but rather
- 9:47Speaker 1: a yes towards something that is better and right for you.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Rejection it's simply redirection, really is. Honestly, I have been
- 10:00Speaker 1: rejected so many times in my life. I constantly get
- 10:03Speaker 1: back up, and we talk about that in another chapter
- 10:05Speaker 1: with Jessica Simpson. But I refuse to give in. Jessica
- 10:09Speaker 1: told me the path to success is paved with failure.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Keep trying rejections. Okay, And in the long run, it
- 10:19Speaker 1: doesn't feel like it in the moment, but big picture,
- 10:23Speaker 1: in the long run, it's the best thing that will
- 10:25Speaker 1: ever happen to you. Because if you get accepted into
- 10:29Speaker 1: a place a life that isn't right for you, it's
- 10:32Speaker 1: never gonna work out. So before you start down that path,
- 10:37Speaker 1: better have the door shut. It really is, Corey. Think
- 10:40Speaker 1: about an audition or something, Corey that you really really
- 10:43Speaker 1: thought you wanted and you didn't get. I bet in
- 10:47Speaker 1: the moment it felt terrible. However, in the long run
- 10:51Speaker 1: it worked out great because he was shining, shining, shining, Caney.
- 10:57Speaker 1: So do you think of it like that? I know
- 10:59Speaker 1: it's difficult to me to talk about it a lot
- 11:01Speaker 1: in the book, But it's sort of mind changing, isn't it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And no and no is a yes to what is
- 11:07Speaker 1: right for you? Yes, and it makes us rewire our
- 11:10Speaker 1: thinking and turn a negative into a positive. And we
- 11:14Speaker 1: are struggle with rejection absolutely. So that's why I think
- 11:17Speaker 1: that chapter is really going to be life changing, every changing. Yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 1: And it's sort of like for me in the book,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I couldn't believe we didn't know this stuff. Nobody taught
- 11:27Speaker 1: us this at school, Like instead of dude, the class
- 11:30Speaker 1: ahead with the eighth from school, shouldn't we have done
- 11:33Speaker 1: a class on these skills in life essential? And this
- 11:38Speaker 1: is why some of the names you mentioned are such
- 11:41Speaker 1: massive stars because they figured all this out. I was
- 11:45Speaker 1: so lucky, Corey, I had a front row seat watching,
- 11:49Speaker 1: actually being paid to watch the most extraordinary people in
- 11:54Speaker 1: the world. And I know it's easy to put down celebrities,
- 11:57Speaker 1: but they're at the top of their game. When you're
- 12:00Speaker 1: talking j Loo, Jessica Simpson, did he Alicia Keys? These
- 12:04Speaker 1: are at the top of their game. And having the
- 12:07Speaker 1: opportunity to watch them observe them, I realized really fast, Corey,
- 12:12Speaker 1: it's not just talent that makes them extraordinary, it's that
- 12:17Speaker 1: they know who they are in foward absolutely Wow. Well,
- 12:23Speaker 1: you know, with that said, it makes me wonder then,
- 12:26Speaker 1: if it's that simple, why do so many of us
- 12:30Speaker 1: doubt ourselves? Oh question, Let me give you the answer,
- 12:36Speaker 1: because we were taught to. That's why we doubt ourselves.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Get away from those people in your life who tell
- 12:42Speaker 1: you to doubt yourself, the people that remind you all
- 12:45Speaker 1: the time of what you're insecure a bound, those nasty
- 12:48Speaker 1: voices in your head telling you you can't, you shouldn't,
- 12:51Speaker 1: why are you doing this, You're not enough, you are enough.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Those people, they've damaged you enough already. Get away from
- 13:00Speaker 1: and never ever again allow those thoughts to invade your mind.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So if you don't. You will constantly, constantly have these
- 13:12Speaker 1: people in your life. And get this, the people that
- 13:15Speaker 1: tell you terrible things, it becomes so familiar that you
- 13:19Speaker 1: start seeking them out. You were comforting by being around
- 13:24Speaker 1: people who tell you to doubt yourself, and then it
- 13:27Speaker 1: goes from being sabotaged to you self sabotaging yourself. You've
- 13:34Speaker 1: got to remember that you were taught to doubt yourself.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And a good news here, Corey. If you could be
- 13:41Speaker 1: taught to do something, you can be untaught. And that's
- 13:45Speaker 1: what we go through in the fourword answer. Those mean
- 13:50Speaker 1: voices in your head, you know what they are. They're
- 13:53Speaker 1: an echo of a lie that somebody told you before,
- 13:57Speaker 1: told you so many times, you leave its. Celebrities don't
- 14:02Speaker 1: have this voice in their head. They can turn it down. Yes,
- 14:06Speaker 1: we all have doubts, but they don't let their doubts,
- 14:10Speaker 1: those nasty voices, those nasty liars, stop them from feeling important.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Just to put a button on this, the best way
- 14:18Speaker 1: to eliminate doubt is to be prepared. Nobody is more
- 14:24Speaker 1: prepared than did he. His success is not an accident.
- 14:28Speaker 1: His success is worked for Corey. He prepares, he prepares,
- 14:33Speaker 1: He prepares, and that's why he is successful. Let's face it,
- 14:37Speaker 1: the queen of pop dare I say? Madonnason might disagree,
- 14:41Speaker 1: but probably most of you will not. She's a superstar.
- 14:44Speaker 1: She still does a sound check wherever she goes in
- 14:48Speaker 1: the world. She gets to the venue before we do,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and she practices. You would think at this point singing
- 14:55Speaker 1: Vogue or material girl is in her bones. It probably is.
- 14:59Speaker 1: She's still does the work, and that's how you eliminate
- 15:03Speaker 1: doubts by being prepared. I never go on a TV
- 15:07Speaker 1: show without a good half hour to read my notes.
- 15:10Speaker 1: When you see the celebrities pull up an award shows
- 15:12Speaker 1: in their limos, I've been in many of those limos
- 15:15Speaker 1: with the stars. They're reading their message points. They know
- 15:18Speaker 1: what they're going to say to Entertainment Tonight, they know
- 15:20Speaker 1: what they're going to say to Access Hollywood. And if
- 15:23Speaker 1: they don't know, we circle the block, keep going, We'll
- 15:25Speaker 1: come back. That's why they're always later all the time.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You would not believe the amount of celebrities I've seen
- 15:33Speaker 1: practice with the hair brush in front of them. Yes,
- 15:39Speaker 1: there you go, Mariah Kerry does it. J Lo does it?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Did he does it? So? If they do it, you
- 15:45Speaker 1: can do it to come prepared, and when those doubts
- 15:49Speaker 1: creep back into your head, they will tell them to
- 15:52Speaker 1: go away, to shut up, because the only reason we
- 15:56Speaker 1: doubt ourselves is because somebody taught us to. Oh, I
- 16:00Speaker 1: love it the forward answer everyone so so good. So
- 16:05Speaker 1: one of the closing chapters of the book sort of
- 16:08Speaker 1: piggybacks on that as well. And I love this. You
- 16:11Speaker 1: have a quote. I want to make sure I get
- 16:12Speaker 1: the quote correct. You say, if you're not doing the work,
- 16:18Speaker 1: you don't deserve the results. Now that's some tough love. Rob,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Explain what you mean by that. Did he told me that? Pet?
- 16:25Speaker 1: He told me that over and over again. Listen, the
- 16:28Speaker 1: only currency that success accepts is effort. Effort. The more
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're willing to spend, the more you will received. Once again,
- 16:39Speaker 1: success is not an accident. You succeed because you're willing
- 16:44Speaker 1: to turn up one more time than the person who quits.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Make an effort, do the work, show up, and success
- 16:55Speaker 1: will come. And then it's a matter of being there
- 16:59Speaker 1: until it does. I stand in the rain longer than anybody.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Are not the most talented, I'm not the most gifted.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I work the hardest. I'll say it. That's my talent.
- 17:12Speaker 1: That's why I'm successful. I get up an hour before
- 17:15Speaker 1: everybody else to practice. I go to bed an hour
- 17:18Speaker 1: after everybody else because I'm practicing. There's a big party
- 17:22Speaker 1: tonight that I really want to go to. I can't
- 17:24Speaker 1: because I'm on the Today's Show in Australia tomorrow and
- 17:27Speaker 1: I have to go to bed. Be sensible, be smart,
- 17:31Speaker 1: be disciplined, put in the work. And can I tell
- 17:34Speaker 1: you why you should do all this? Because you are important?
- 17:39Speaker 1: You brought it all the way back to one of
- 17:41Speaker 1: the big keywords from P Diddy. Well, that is so wonderful.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And the book is wonderful. I'm having a wonderful time reading.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And I should just say it's not just are these
- 17:51Speaker 1: great anecdotes for life. It's very witty, darling. You have
- 17:54Speaker 1: some a little funny funny moments in there too, very funny.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You can't. You can't work with all these people and
- 18:00Speaker 1: not tell a little bit of gossip. I mean, we
- 18:03Speaker 1: love to spill the tea, so there's lots. I give
- 18:06Speaker 1: Jessica Simpson's code name what you did? Yes, I hope
- 18:10Speaker 1: she has changed that name. Testif listening a lower, lower, low.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So there's lots of funny, funny stories and hopefully some
- 18:16Speaker 1: touching stories about working for celebrities. I got to say, Cory,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I didn't think this response would happen. A week were
- 18:24Speaker 1: number eleven on Amazon. We've sold so many books this
- 18:29Speaker 1: week that they're rushing out another prints were almost soldlation
- 18:34Speaker 1: and so we're rushing out. So if you if you
- 18:36Speaker 1: want to order it and there's a slight delay, it
- 18:39Speaker 1: will be filled very quickly. But I'm told that that
- 18:42Speaker 1: has now been fixed. A couple of days ago we
- 18:44Speaker 1: had people trying to buy it and there was not
- 18:46Speaker 1: a booklet in the country. I know, I had two
- 18:48Speaker 1: into my bed. You can get more for them short.
- 18:55Speaker 1: They're in short supply because of the amazing demand, and
- 18:57Speaker 1: that's because of the Naughties and and the friends of
- 19:00Speaker 1: this show. They're wonderful an my foundation. I'm so grateful
- 19:06Speaker 1: for all of this and for all of you. Thank you,
- 19:09Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, and Corey too. I'm so grateful
- 19:11Speaker 1: for you. Thank you for doing this bonus episode, Oh
- 19:14Speaker 1: my pleasure, and thank you for the opportunity. I'm so
- 19:16Speaker 1: glad to spend this time with you. Rob, and thank
- 19:19Speaker 1: you to everyone listening to Naughty but Nice with Corey
- 19:21Speaker 1: Andrew and Rob Shooter, a production of I Heart Radio.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Didn't that sound funny with my name first? But I
- 19:27Speaker 1: like it though. It's good. But hey, guys, don't forget
- 19:30Speaker 1: to subscribe on the I heart Radio app, Apple Podcast,
- 19:33Speaker 1: or wherever you listen to your favorite podcast. We'd love
- 19:36Speaker 1: to hear from you, so drop us a line or
- 19:37Speaker 1: a review, and remember all together now, if you're going
- 19:41Speaker 1: to you've got to be It's not even nice with
