- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, not in South Richmond.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know where you are.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Mike Wade, what is up, my man?
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm the co-host.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: I'm up in northern Virginia for uh for work this week, and I'm in a hotel room.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Very nice.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, here I am.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: Love and life.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Love and life.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Weird week.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: It's like uh your background's all foggy.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: It's like that um uh Wayne's world where it's like, oh, I'm in Paris now.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm in Delaware.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I'm in Delaware.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Cool, man.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Delaware Virginia.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Northern Virginia is very much like that.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: It's like cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: I'm in Northern Virginia.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: So super quick for the show, what are you doing up there in 20 words or less?
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Uh just like team, team, uh team meetings, um, you know, just classic corporate uh teamwork, man.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Love it, love it, good stuff.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, not much has changed the last time we had since we uh hung out.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Uh I went to Charlottesville this past weekend.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, went to the UVA game, the UVA Maryland game, which we will talk about briefly.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Tell me, tell me about it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Uh well, I mean, honestly, the weather was great.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, this this the stadium scott got a little rocking.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: The top tuple was kind of empty, but the bottom was half was full.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Folks were jacked.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: How hard did you sway?
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Well, let me tell you.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: So we celebrated, I celebrated Happy New Year's three times on three different scores, uh, for three nothing, six nothing, and thirteen nothing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, the first time I celebrated Happy New Year, I decided that my New Year's resolution was to exercise more.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: So I went to the bathroom, like on the other side of the stadium, you know, walk up and down a little bit because it's second more exercise.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: The second time I celebrated Happy New Year's um swaying, um, I decided to eat better, improve my diet.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: So I went for a bag of peanuts instead of a hot dog because yeah, I got peanuts instead, so it's leaner, good for the physique.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: The third time I celebrated my happy new year's, I decided to spend more time with the family.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: So I decided to leave the football game and go home because um obviously Maryland was beating the brakes off them.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: So there's no reason for me to be there anymore.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: So um, but yeah, I feel like UVA was awesome.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Celebrated New Year's three times, did not work out for the Wahoos.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, Maryland, just big, big ten boys just pushing them around.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Um, had no answer for Ty Felton, and you know, that's what happens.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: So um, but overall, fan experience was a great time.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, I really like Scott Stadium, the all the students on the on the the hill they call it or the lawn, whatever they call that patch behind the uh the lawn.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: The lawn.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was sweet.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: It was sweet.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Uh so cool.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So, what we're gonna do as all is we're gonna talk about last week.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: We're gonna look forward to this week.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: So we're a little bit further removed from uh last week's action.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: You guys all know what happens.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: What we're gonna do this week is we're gonna kind of talk about uh things that happened last week in the context of the bigger picture, like what's really happening with this team, kind of more trends, we're gonna fit in some takes.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do what I'm gonna call an autopsy of week three.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: So, with that said, true crime scene.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Get it?
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Crime scene through the autopsy on what happened.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: It's funny, get it anyway.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So very nice.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: It's not bad.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I get it, I get it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: That's good, that's good.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: I'll start with we'll start with uh the headline of week three.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Michigan beat Arkansas State 28, uh, 18, rushed to 300 yards.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, Davis Warren threw three interceptions, ended up getting benched.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, quarterboo quarterback woes are almost inexcusable.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Alex Orgy has been announced a starter.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Is this the turning point for Michigan?
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Does this look any better?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: What's your Michigan quarterback take?
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Uh it's hard for me.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: So I piled on before this game and said that Warren sucked.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: And I threw him on my pile of misfit toys, quarterback misfit toys, uh, along with several other quarterbacks that have been added to the heat.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Um and so I can't say that this will fix all the things because it's Arkansas State.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: And yes, they ran the ball and they looked more physical, which is the Michigan brand of football.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: What they're gonna do.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: And yep.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: And um, but you know, they still only did so much against an opponent that that they frankly should do that against.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: So it's promising, but the jury's out, and the quarterback change is the right move, but now they've got USC rolling into town, and it's gonna be uh much more physical battle.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: So I don't know that everything's solved.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I think they're taking steps in the right direction.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: It just makes it makes me wonder why they didn't go after a quarterback in the portal.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: I just think I think we've already said this on this podcast.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Again, you know, I think what Alex Worji does is he he he kind of aligns their team.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: He is a dual threat guy who can do things with legs.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: He's a big boy, he can take a lot of hits, and I think he's gonna make Michigan kind of an option type team, RPO, you know, maybe make a couple deep shots, kind of like a poor man's uh Milro, kind of like what Alabama Alabama's doing.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Because I think that's kind of what they're gonna.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I don't think Davis Mill, Davis Warren's dropback, pocket passer, pro style approach, kind of doing his best, JJ McCarthy impersonation was working at all.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So I do think that Alex Orgy, based on what this team does, more aligns, but is it gonna be enough offensive firepower to stick with?
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: I think they have USC, Oregon, and Michigan.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Right now, I kind of like them to lose all three of those games.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: And they're kind of that puts them at eight and four.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, some things align.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Maybe this will kind of gel their offense a little bit, but I don't, it's it's hard to say right now.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: It looks it doesn't look good.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Well, here's the thing you can't just change your offense because you're plugging in a new quarterback.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: So, like, how much does he cover up with his with his run game and with his physicality?
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: Like, how much does he cover up some of the inefficiencies that they've been dealing with?
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Um, because you can't just okay, now we're gonna RPO everyone, now we're gonna run a different offense, right?
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Like, so I think he can cover up some of the holes, but yeah, I don't think I think it moves the needle the right way, but I don't think maybe it's enough to be where they want to be.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: I think I agree.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: All right, K-State, real nice win 31-7, 31-7.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Avery Johnson uh had spots with arms and legs, did pretty well, probably needs to improve overall.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Pretty big upside, did well.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Uh Tutorian McMillan, T Mac, he got his 11 catches, 138 yards, but that's about it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Arizona kind of went into a shell.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: I was high on them this year, and they got absolutely smoked.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: That was actually technically not a non-con, even though they're both Big 12 teams because they scheduled it before of the um recalibration of all the schools.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Is K-State your Big 12 favorite at this point?
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Who do you like in the Big 12 right now?
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Um, they've gotta be up there, right?
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Like it's gotta be K-State, Iowa State, like Kansas looked really bad.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Two losses now.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but one and two.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: And we thought with you know, Jalen Daniels, like, so it's gotta be K-State, it's gotta be it's gotta be Iowa State, right?
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're gonna see a little bit of Utah and Oklahoma State later.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Actually, this week we'll talk about them on talk about them in a little bit, but I the way K-State's playing defense, the way Avery Johnson seems to be clicking.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Um, with Cam Rising's injuriness, we're seeing I it's it's I think K-State has kind of emerged.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Arch Manning uh came in for uh Quinn Ewers, Texas.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: It was obviously UTSA.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Big day had four touchdowns.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Ewers has gotten hurt.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Uh he's in year three of his uh service to the University of Texas.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: He's been hurt a couple times, had a couple injuries.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: This one, this little tummy ache, sounds like a lacerated oblique, or what is it?
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: It's something, it's a abdomen twerk, um, whatever it is.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: It's not a tummy ache, hurt, it's not a tummy ache, but he's gonna be out a couple games.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Um does Archmanning have a do we have a quarterback controversy in Texas?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know that I would call it a quarterback controversy because they're both really, really good, and I think they can win with either of them.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: I think and and Texas is a complete enough team where I don't know that it really matters like who emerges to play.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: Like I, you know, when Ewers is back, he's gonna be back.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Like um, Manning is gonna do a really good job in these next few games.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Like, he's gonna create some fan controversy because he's gonna put up big numbers, but it's because of the competition they're going against.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think it's probably clear to him and everyone else, like when Ewers is back, it's gonna be his job when he comes back.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: So I don't think it's a controversy.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: I think they've got two really, really good bat, you know, quarterbacks, and I think you know it's just a good problem to have.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's any controversy.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be I I think it's fine now because I think the next two games are kind of gimme's, but if the schedule gets a little bit tougher, I think they've got they've got games against Georgia, I think they've got Alabama as well.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: They've got some other tough SEC conference.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: I wonder what's gonna happen if yours is lingering, if the the stomach injuries injury lingers.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: You know, if I think Arshman is getting the ball this week, I think it's against somebody pretty bad.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: I think he's gonna probably go for another five, six, seven touchdowns.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Like it's going to be interesting to see what you got.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: So they've got Louisiana Monroe, okay, the Mississippi State, ooh, rough bye week, Oklahoma.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, so they've got they've got plenty of time, they got plenty of time to get right.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Let's just pretend Arch Manning goes absolutely bonkers next two games before the bye week.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Is anybody talking about Arch Manning starting the Oklahoma River Red?
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: No, no chance.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think so.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think so either.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think so either.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: But Texas is obviously a unique program for many, many reasons.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: The fact that they have one, not one, but two potential superstars or quarterback at this level and the next, like it just it has the it has the chance to be good television.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know if someone's gonna take someone's job, I don't know if someone's gonna get healthy.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: I'm just keep an eye on that situation because it's an intriguing storyline given the high profile athletes and the the situation that they've got there.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: But um, I fully expect them to steamroll losing a minor and Mississippi State.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So uh Florida State loses again, falls to 0 and 3.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: I think the first time in my lifetime, uh loses to 2012 to Memphis.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Um, that was the only of the four upsets we got right.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Mike and I went for the steak dinner.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, we did not did not work out.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: We got one out of four, right?
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: But that was when we got right.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Um, if if you're Florida State, man, what do you do?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: I you you have to bench DJ, right?
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: You cannot keep rolling him out there and expect these players to keep trying.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it doesn't matter who's behind him.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Um, I think change is energizing at this point.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: I think if you're a fan, um I think if you're if if you're an actual fan, like you just want to see improvement.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: Like for a team that was was basically projected to be in the college football playoff, like it's kind of a wash.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: So you just want to see positive signs, you want to see young guys, you want to see flashes, um, and you want to see some sparks of life.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: That was the one bet that we played since it's already hit the under nine and a half wins.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: That's that I cannot believe that bet hit on September 15th.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I didn't see that coming.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't think they I knew they were gonna get the nine and a half wins, I didn't think it was gonna be the first three.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: That one took me for took me for a took me for a way.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Good for you.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Good for you.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Hey, we're gonna do Ole Miss crushes Wake 40 to 6.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Um, just a brutal beatdown.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Always are bringing this up for this.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I've never heard of this.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest canceled.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: This was a home and home, which for those of you who don't know, a home and home means let's say LSU and Virginia Tech were to play.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: LSU would go to Blacksburg one year.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: The following year, Hokies would come to Baton Rouge.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Really common teams do it all the time.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Old Miss at Wake Forest had a home had a home and home.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Old Forest, Old Miss went to Wake Forest, crushed them.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest after the game said, you know what?
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: We're not going back, we're canceling it.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: They're paying a million-dollar cancellation fee.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: One, I didn't know you could do that.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Two, that kind of feels like bullshit, man.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I you can't do that.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: That's the that's like you shouldn't be able to get a game's a year away.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: They canceled it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I've never seen it before.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's it's it's a bad move.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just dumb.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Like, who cares?
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Like, you don't know.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: I've seen teams do it for scheduling purposes.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: Like, you have to like it, it's it's a giant you know, chessboard, and you have there's a lot of moving pieces to make your schedule, especially your your non-conference.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Um, but to do it right now, it just feels like a really bad move.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Um and it it's a knee-jerk reaction for them based on the one game.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: You know who's really yeah, there's no reason.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: You know who I really feel bad for is the Citadel.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Because that's who they're gonna reschedule that replacement with.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And the Citadel is just gonna take a beatdown from Ole Miss.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: That that's gonna be the replacement.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Who else is taking the game on this short and this game?
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: That game is nine, it's 11 and a half months away.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Who's gonna take that game on such short notice?
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: It's gonna have to be a G4 or FC.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna have to be somebody who's looking for a payday, and Wakeforce is gonna get another win next year, set of a loss.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: So good for you, good for you.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Dean Deakin's yeah, freaking.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: I don't love it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I don't love it.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, Boston College uh lost to Missouri 21-27.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: This was one of the this was the other of the four picks that we did that we got wrong, but it felt right.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Missouri had a lot of trouble with Boston College.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Toss kind of Thomas Costellano's Boston College quarterback, he had a great day.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: 16 to 28, 250 yards, three touchdowns.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: He had two picks, kind of forcing things.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: He was kind of trying to be all things productive.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Um, is Missouri worse than we thought, or is Boston College better than we thought?
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: I don't think Missouri is I think Missouri is who I thought they were.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Like they their schedules are charming soft, like they're not gonna be tested at all.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: I think it sucks.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is this shouldn't even have been a test.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Bill O'Brien is a good coach, and they're woefully undermanned for a game like this.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Um, they're not where they want, like Boston College is not even set up to compete in the ACC.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: But he's a good coach, so he's got his guys prepared and they put up a good fight.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: And I think we're we're in week three, and it's a week three game.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Like you've got a well-coached team going up against a team that is probably not ready for it, and you you know the proof's in the pudding, and Missouri won't be tested much the rest of the year, so it is they got the win.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I think Missouri's in trouble.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I don't think I I I kind of quietly expected.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I know we've obviously put the the uh uh upset bet in.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: I kind of quietly thought Missouri would uh resoundingly do I'm I'm still really high on Brady Cook, but they look bad.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and their secondary does not look good.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Theo We Sleuther Burden, those guys are elite, those guys were playing on Sundays, but I don't like their defense at all.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I think they're gonna be in for a rude awakening.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: I think somebody else might come up and get them as well.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, speaking of the uh upset uh staked in a bet that did not hit, I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of glump these two bets uh into these two other games together.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Notre Dame, big crackback 66 to 7 against Purdue.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Uh Oregon, uh big uh big resounding win 49 to 14.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: This is this what we expected to see out of Notre Dame and Oregon.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Are both of these teams back on track?
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Have you are you seeing recovery from Oregon?
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Is this give me your Oregon Notre Dame ticks?
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think Oregon is who we thought they were the entire time.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: I think it took them.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, I think it they're still super talented.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: I think you know they they it's like we said, we keep making these knee-jerk reactions, and it's week three, and Oregon is still really good.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: And I uh Dylan Gabriel looked fantastic.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: He is who we thought he was, and there's no doubt, like he's awesome.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm not making that take on Notre Dame.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: Just because they beat a you know mid-Purdue team, bad Purdue team, yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like there's still so much to be said.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Like, Notre Dame is still probably not a not a great team.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Oregon, just because they sleptwalk through a couple games, I'm not pulling the plug on them.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Notre Dame, the plug has been pulled.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Like Riley Leonard scored the Notre Dame scored 66 points.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Riley Leonard still did not throw a touchdown pass.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: They did play three, they did play three quarterbacks and his backup.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: I think his name is Angela, I think he threw two.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: At some point, Notre Dame, I feel like he's gonna have to have some semblance of a vertical passing game.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: I recognize Riley Leonard is really good with his feet, and he's really good at you know running the ball and being dynamic and when things break down, kind of really making hay.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: But like at some point, they're gonna Notre Dame is gonna have to have a vertical attack, especially if they're gonna claw their way back in any kind of playoff picture.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be surprised at all if especially if Riley Leonard goes down again and gets injury.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: If you don't see a quarterback controversy in South Bend, but we'll put the card for the horse there.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna continue to say I don't want to hear Notre Dame in playoff contention conversation until they do something.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Like they don't deserve it.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Like you lost the NI Northern Illinois, like yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: It might be a lot of nothing, though.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Don't mind to me about it.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: They might be a lot of bad teams.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we'll see about USC the variance, but they might they might just give win a lot of bad teams.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: We'll just see.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, Georgia survives ugly, easily could have lost.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Mark Stoops had his chance to go for in fourth down, chose not to.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: One of the worst play goals I've ever seen.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: They lose 13 to 12.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm sorry, excuse me.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: They win 13 to 12 in Lexington.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: My question for you for this game is Georgia vulnerable?
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Are we seeing Kinks in the armor, or is this what we have seen Georgia do in the last couple games against the Missouri, against Kentucky?
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Just look bad for a week, totally, and then go on to just be the juggernaut that they are and win national championships.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: The question for you is Georgia actually vulnerable, or is this just a Georgia hiccup?
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a really hard to answer at this point because, like you said, they did the same thing last year.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: I we were having this same conversation last year.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they were so slow out of the gate for several of their early season games.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: And you know, they're they were a great team last year.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't think they're as complete of a of a football team.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: I think um they've lost a lot on defense.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: I think all Americans offensive linemen too as well.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I don't think Kentucky is you know a fantastic football team, but Kentucky's given them fits, you know, for a little while now.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: I really don't know.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: I I really don't know what to make of the outcome of this game.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: It's one of those, it's college football.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: That's all I can run it up on.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: It feels like we'll see what happens.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: It feels like bad variants to me, frankly.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna stick with this.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna my initial takeaway was this doesn't mean anything.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: I agree with you that there's no lad McCaukey over there, there's no Brock Bowers.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: So Carson Beck might not have the weapons that he loved.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And there are some injuries.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Georgia is starting to pile up some legitimate injuries, that's sure.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna fall in the trap of doubting them.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I've done that before.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: They are still have something, some god-awful number, like 47 five stars in that roster.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: There are guys there that are waiting to emerge.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So my gut instinct says this is nothing, but maybe keep an eye on.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: We'll just take a look and see.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Um, you also have to remember that these teams get better every week.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: And the team that you see week two and three is not the team that you see week five, six, seven, eight.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: You know, the good teams, the well-coached teams with those high-caliber athletes all are only gonna get better.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: I guess and Kirby Smart's shown that he does it, you know, he's done it time and time again.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: So I'm not, I'm not, I'm not having a knee-jerk reaction on that.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, but but Kentucky missed a huge opportunity to win that game, especially after just such a such a disheartening loss to South Carolina the week before, which South Carolina actually might not be as bad as we thought.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about the LSU South Carolina game in a minute.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, eight uh Texas AM uh benches Connor Wygman goes with Marcel Reed.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Marcel Reed goes for 11, 17, 182 touchdown, rush 13 for 80, 83, one touchdown.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Really gave Texas AM's offense a spark.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: All of that's all well and good.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Texas AM is a pretty good team.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: University of Florida loses again.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Does Billy Napier survive one more week?
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: That's what I want to know.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Now we're right, we are on the Napier dead man walking clock.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I think I'm I'm ready for you to call your shot.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: We we know we're there, it's not a matter of if it's a matter of when.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: When is Napier's how many more games can he make it?
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Well, I I mean, I thought that this was gonna happen.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Like preseason, like the way if you would have told me that this was what the way that the the season was gonna play out, you know.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think I don't see how he survives, but he seems to think that he's going into next year, so maybe he knows something that we don't know.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: He the conversations with the administration, like it's hard to come out and and with confidence as a head coach and be like, yes, I 100% see a path for me to be here in 2025, which is what he said.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: And for us to be on the outside looking in and say, I don't see that.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, FanDuel has already released odds for all the coaches to replace him.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: The writing's on the wall.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know how he survives, but I don't know what the conversations have been.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: This is like this is the head coaching carousel every year.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: It's like all we know is what what we've heard and what we've seen.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna make you call your shot.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Next, next next four games at Mississippi State versus UCF, at Tennessee versus Kentucky, and number five is uh then Georgia.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Which is his last game as a head coach of the Florida Gators?
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State, UCF, Kentucky.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Kentucky, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, LSU.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State's bad.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Probably going to win that one.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: But it's on the road.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: So I think they they probably win that one.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I think that's a pretty good one.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Then they got UCF at home, who's undefeated.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Is it Tennessee?
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Does Tennessee bury him?
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: I think if they win two and then lose to like a top-ranked Tennessee team in Neeland, like that's not going to be the one to like push it over the edge.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: Like, I think he limps along.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't okay.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I don't see this ending anytime that soon.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say after Texas.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say I agree with you.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I think he's going to go, I think he's going to win these next two, lose to Tennessee, beat Kentucky, lose to Georgia.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: He's sitting there at four and four.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: I think he's going to go to Texas after the after losing to Georgia handily.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Texas is going to pound the bejesus out of him.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: That's going to be the last one.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say, I'm going to say Texas is his last head coach football game.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Give me a give me you also have to think, you also have to think about the timing of pulling the trigger.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Like, does it behoove you as like an an athletic director?
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Like when like you know, you lose a few of these games.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Like, why does it make a difference whether you do it, you know, after Mississippi State or like when is the timing?
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Like it doesn't matter necessarily.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: Like you just want to set yourself up for success for next season and for your recruiting class.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Like, so you don't want to do it too late in the season, but like whether you do it after Georgia or Texas, like, you know, doesn't really matter.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: So are you going to make a prediction or not?
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: You're going to tell me what what how many more games does he get?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Based on what you said?
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State, UCF, Tennessee, Kentucky.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Which one's his last one?
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: If they lose to Kentucky, he might be gone.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: There's a bye-week right after that.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: That'd be good timings.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: They get two weeks off to recover before the cocktail price.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: So we'll say Kentucky.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Are you say Kentucky?
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: I say Texas.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: We think what we both agree that Billy Napier is dead man walking.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Uh I said that preseason.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: I said you should buy that.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're gonna hit you're gonna hit that one.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma underwhelms at home against Tulane.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Jackson Arnold threw for 170 yards, rushed 14 for 97.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Could Jackson Arnold survive carrying the ball 15 times a game?
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: That was my takeaway.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: I didn't think he was a runner.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: Certainly didn't think he was running 14 times.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Um, not in the SEC.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me your Jackson Arnold scampering takes.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Um, so he's a good, he's a good scamperer.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: He's an athlete.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: He can he can pick up yardage.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Um, it's not his fault.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: The offensive line, they've had the shuffle guys left and right, they've got a lot of injuries, they've got injuries all over.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Um, even you know, especially in the wide receiver core.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Um, this is a bad week to find out if their offense can start clicking.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: So uh we'll we'll get into that when we talk about the Tennessee game.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: But um, their offense has been one of the worst in the SEC thus far.
- 25:32unknown: Yep.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Uh 3-0.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Pitt uh got done the backyard brawl, which is a historic renewal of a rivalry.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: West Virginia Pitt, congratulations to them.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Narduzi's got something going.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: He's been quietly one of the better coaches in college football for a long time, um, doing more with less.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, Eli Holstein, 21 for 30, 300 yards, three touchdowns.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, so give me the you got we got Florida State.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: I mean sorry, we got Miami at the top.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Clemson, probably number two.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Is Pitt three?
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Is Louisville three?
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Where's your where give me your where's Pitt in your echelon of ACC squads right now?
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: That's a really good question.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: That's a good question that nobody's talking about because the ACC is is not on everyone's radar as far as like the the everyone wants to talk about the playoff, right?
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: The playoff playoff playoff.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Any other year we're talking about just the hierarchy of these teams, and Miami is right at the top, as they should be, but you know, they're still they're still not yet proven.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: It's only three weeks in.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: You could say what they what we've seen, yeah, they're up there.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Clemson, maybe right behind them.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: I think you could from for me, you could say Miami's number one.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Any combination of two, three, four, five, really, I wouldn't argue with Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, Clemson, anybody in those four, I would say, okay, they're the second best team.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, they're the third best team.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: I don't really have a argument against any of them right now.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: I've been impressed with I've been flat out impressed with Syracuse, um, Louisville and Pitt that we're talking about right now.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: And I still think Clemson is probably the second best team in the conference.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna keep it.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Well, based on, yeah, you gotta go, even if you haven't seen it on the field, um, you gotta give the like based on recruiting alone and and the overall talent on the roster, Clemson's gotta be up there still.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: And then you go, yeah, and then you go maybe um Louisville hit NC State still lingering around there somewhere, yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Um, and and and Louisville uh Syracuse right there, too.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Syracuse on the feet is it's it's kind of a yeah, we'll see.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: It'll it'll play itself out.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna give the ACC, I'm gonna give Zac a little bit of credit.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: It's made itself a little bit more interesting than I thought it would be, especially that that race kind of the upper media echelon half.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: I think Miami's clearly uh the bell of the ball, and they should be given Cam Ward, given what they have on that.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: They are probably the most talented team in the conference, but um Louisville and Syracuse are playing good football, and Pitt Narduzi with this offense, a real pivot from the kind of football that he's wanted to play with Kenny Pickett and guys before him.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Uh credit them for uh getting it done.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Uh so well, and we thought Virginia Tech would be basically one or two there.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: I'm worried about my rookies, man.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: I'm worried about them.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: We'll talk, we'll talk about the men.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Speaking of which, that's that's actually a great transition.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Let's go ahead and drift right the last game ahead.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Anyway, let's go with the homer time.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Virginia Tech, solid win.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: D only gave up 50 pass yards, but 250 on the ground, 37-17.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Jones carrot and Dutton carried the offense.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Jalen Lane had a real nice day, 706 and a touchdown.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Um, looked good.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I do not love what I see out of the Virginia Tech hookies right now.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Um, it's not crisp enough.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: I don't think drones is doing enough with his feet.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Um, they just don't look their defense, it's not what I thought it was.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me your give me your hooky takeaways.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Um after this game, you've got an 0 and 3 old Dominion team.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: This is this should have been kind of like a statement game for Virginia Tech.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: And this is a game that was kind of in doubt, you know.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: It was, you know, you end up looking at the stat line.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: It's a 20-point win.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: But you know, drones went 15 of 26 with 176 yards, one TD, one one interception.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: They did do some work on the ground.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, drones went for over 100 yards, Sutton went for over 100 yards.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: I think they need to continue to lean on that run game.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Um, but like this is a team that you should be able to push around.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: You should be able to do what you want to do.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Um that's my problem as well.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: I just like don't think it just they didn't put them away.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: They didn't put them away.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: And they didn't really do they really didn't do it with Marshall either, and they lost to uh Vanderbilt, as we know.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: Like, this is not the this is what this team looks like right now is not what Virginia Tech is supposed to look like in year three.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I think um you and I bought the hype, and I'm I'm I'm still bullish and I still like them.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I just like they're supposed to be several steps further in than this than they need to be.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: I just done worried about them uh having not developed as much.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Uh UBA uh played a great first half.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about UVA Maryland really quick.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Uh really just collapsed in the second half.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: UVA defense ain't bad, they were just out there too long.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're winning 13-7 at the half, they lost 27-13.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: They had no answer for Ty Felton, which is was uh Maryland's top receiver who really had a day.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Billy Edwards, they're the quarterback from uh Springfield, also did really well.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Um, the game from where I was sitting, it just looked like big boys from the Big Ten just pushing around ACC kids.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: And just didn't it didn't feel like UVA, I thought they got tired, I feel like I got gassed.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, I Calandria threw some horrific picks, one particularly the end of the first half, which was really costly.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: Um, but he was making some things happen the first half and he was moving the ball.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: It just it felt like the whole time it felt like UVA was trying to come up with tricks to move the ball and kind of gadget plays and go off script.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: And when it came to just like play football and who's gonna push around who, Maryland was just like clearly bigger and stronger.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, I don't know.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: I when you look at the stat line, like it's fairly even across the board, like UVA moved the ball, um, rushing yards, passing yards, fairly even, uh, yards per play, fairly even.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Um, but Virginia turned the ball over.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, four uh four turnovers, two fumbles lost, two turn, two interceptions.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: That's the game.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: You can't do you can't turn the ball over that much.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: No, you surely can't, but that helps the game.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Uh that'll do it.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: All right, moving on.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: LSU wins a crazy, crazy game.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: 36-33 against South Carolina.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, a lot of opinions.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: We are not a playoff team.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, South Carolina defensive line is better than I thought.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I did not give them enough credit.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Um, Dylan Stewart, uh, Kennard, those guys are actually really good.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: And what they did to Kentucky two weeks ago was not a fluke.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: That defense is going to hang.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Um uh LSU got a couple couple lucky breaks.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie to you, the refs really looked down on us favorably that day.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Um, our kicker was nails, theirs wasn't.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's you know, Mike and I said this before in this podcast never ever take road SEC wins for granted.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: I don't care who it is.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And this was one of them.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And I'm just I feel really happy and I feel like I need to shower after that game uh to get a win.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Um, the good news.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: So that's that's the bad.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: That's the bad is we survived the win.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: The good news is some things kind of did click for LSU.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: LSU's running rushing game finally seemed to Kimblef, Caden Durham, uh, the true freshman was for 11, 97 yards and two touchdowns, which is really, really revelation.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: LSU has had no rushing game uh to speak of.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: And the thing is why that's so important, why I'm harping on is because if that can come together, if LSU can get back to a point where they can establish some sort of consistent rush game, it's going to make their vertical offense, passing offense much better.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: LSU is facing a lot too high safeties to bring them down, become the box, stop the run, and it gets our defense off the field.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: So there's a there's a case to be made that this is a point is a is a real turning point for um LSU.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: The good news is our next three games are UC UCLA at home, South Alabama home, and then a bye um before we host Ole Miss in a month.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: So we have like 26 days in Baton Rouge with a couple potentially dress rehearsal football games to kind of figure it out.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: It's kind of a whole fall camp.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: We have to get a lot better.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: That's what my whole takeaway from this is like the team that's played in in Columbia last Saturday.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: If that's the team that we put on the field hosting Ole Miss in October, we're gonna get crushed.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: So the team's got to get better.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Uh anyway, LSC was LSU was lucky.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: They stole that game with the help of some officiating, and you know it, like there were several key points.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: The pick six, um there were moments where it was like head scratching how LSU won that game.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Um but and win's a win, and you move on, and um, you know, it is what it is.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: It wasn't I thought the horse coming.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: It was an ugly game, it was a very ugly game.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And LSU wasn't loot, wasn't winning until the very fourth quarter end of the fourth quarter.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: They took took the lead, immediately gave up a 70-yard rush, and then we didn't get the go-ahead touchdown until I think there was a minute four left or so.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: And even still, we still let Robbie Ashford, who's no Lenora Sellers, um, drive all the way down to get their kicker to the 35-yard line to make a very missable, very makeable kick.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: He just happened to miss it.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: I'm also gonna say it.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Um, if Lenora Sellers doesn't get hurt, and unfortunately did, yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: LSU sacked in the end at the end of the first half, rolled up his ankle.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: It wasn't dirty, it's just a football play.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: It happens, but if that doesn't happen, I think we lose.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: So you know, it's just it's a it's a really, really gross way to get a road win, but they did.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, so we'll see about that.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Uh Latin.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: I'm not crying any tears for uh for the game cocks, but no love losses.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh Tennessee.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know who they do.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: They they shut out somebody, and those are neat.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: What do you got with the Tennessee?
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know who they would they play like a play Kent State, Kent State, yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've I didn't watch a second of this game, so I'll let you do take the lead on this one.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, you know, it was it was a classic beatdown, you know.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Um people always say, like, it doesn't matter, like you played such and such, like it doesn't matter, you know, that game means nothing because that team is so bad.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: But and there's some truth to that.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: There is some truth to that if you don't watch the game.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: If you see with your eyeballs how good a first quarter looks, or how flawless, you know, a first quarter or second quarter looks, and when you put up 65 points and a half with like your backup squad, like you know, that matters a little bit.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: Yep, there's always a grain of salt, so um, yeah, it was a good win, and can't say it's a bad team, but Tennessee is a mature team that rotated a ton of guys, took care of business, gave a lot of guys a lot of um playing time, and we still have guys like James Pierce, who are some of the best players in the country, who have only played kind of like a handful of snaps.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: So it sets us up to be in a very interesting situation against Oklahoma.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Uh very nice.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Congrats on the winning, congrats on being four and oh, three and oh, four-and-o, uh, through uh three weeks.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Uh undefeated always always feels good.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: All right, cool.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Let's go ahead and jump into week four.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: So, this is your week four kind of predictions.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about games that we like.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: We highlight a couple that we think particularly should have our attention.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, we'll start, we'll do start with kind of the general college football games, and we'll obviously do the last four homers last.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's start, we'll start somewhat in chronological order.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: We'll start with Friday.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Got a banger for Friday night.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: This is two weeks in a row where we had another ranked on ranked match off.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: The fighting alini go to Lincoln, Nebraska.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: Both teams three and oh, Nebraska's seven and a half point favorites.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, biggest team, biggest test to date for both teams for sure.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Luke Altmeyer, um, maybe this is coming out party for the the Illinois uh quarterback.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: Um, I really like Nebraska's defense.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: I think the I think Illinois, I think who who Illinois beaten to date is it's nice, nice to be three and oh.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, Illinois's not a team that people use winning a lot of football games if they play.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Central Michigan, Kansas, who's now lost two games, might be bad, and eastern Illinois.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: Nebraska is going to be a big step up.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: So um give me your Nebraska-Illinois takeaways.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the spread's what like seven and a half Nebraska.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I think Nebraska is better equipped to win this game.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: I think they're Dylan Rayola is a better quarterback.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: I think they're they're better across the board.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Um, I think um it's gonna be a little bit of a rock fight early, and then I think their athletes just gotta take over, and the better quarterback makes the separation.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I got Nebraska covering this game easily.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: I think Nebraska's defense is gonna be the difference.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: I don't think Illinois's faced anything up front.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Kansas, eastern Illinois, and who's the last thing we did we say?
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Central Michigan.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: Nebraska is legitimately a good Big Ten defense with big, strong kids who know how to play football.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: So I don't think Illinois has seen anything close to them.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: I got Nebraska covering this one, I don't know, 14, 17 points, kind of going away.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: I'm very excited to see Dylan Rayola on primetime television, kind of the poor man's Patrick Mahomes.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: I hope he doesn't do that cringy warm-up thing that he's been doing recently.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: That's pretty lame.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: He probably will, but um, I mean, excited for Big Red Nation.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've been this has been a star franchise, they're on the they're on the brink of doing something pretty cool here.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: This is a nice step for them.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: This is a nice step for for Nebraska.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Um, Illinois is is building, they're still building, and this will be you know, Friday night.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: This will be the show, you know.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: This will be it.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Friday night, it's a ranked matchup.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: It's a it's a good one.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: So you have Nebraska.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: So you have Nebraska covering?
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: I think Nebraska, I think it's a it's a tight game, maybe early.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: And I think their their playmakers make plays and they win late.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: So one thing I forgot to do, Mike and I are starting this week, we're starting the Mike Blitz bets of the week.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Every pick that Mike and I, every pick that Mike and I agree on, we're gonna talk about eight more games.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: Every pick that we agree on, we're gonna parlay all those to be your official Mike Blitz, Mike Blitz bet of the week.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So the first bet, first piece of the first leg of that is Nebraska covering.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, next one USC Michigan historic matchup.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Those helmets in the big house.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: This is like this is the kind of stuff that like you would yearn for for years to see games like this.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: I'm yearning.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Yearning.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: This is but now with the new reshuffling, we're gonna get them like pretty often.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: That's pretty cool.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: Like, so very cool to see USC up in Ann Arbor.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I am interested to see how USC's high-flying offense plays in that house, the hostile territory.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: You know, Utah State wasn't great.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Vegas was neutral side, probably more LSU fans than USC.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, the big house is going to be crazy.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: That place is going to be loud.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: That defensive line is nasty.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: I would love, I want to see what Miller Moss and USC can do up there.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how Michigan scores, uh, because given we already talked about Alex Orgy a little bit, yeah.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: Um what's your what's your give me your Michigan USC opinions?
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this one's uh really interesting uh because you've got kind of a Michigan program that's like kind of on the ropes, like it feels like they're on the ropes.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: They just won a national championship, and now we don't know who they are, right?
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Like we don't know what their identity is, and you've got a USC team that is from our perspective surging, right?
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: It seems like they're they're they're they're riding the ship from their deficiencies um from the year before.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: They push around LSU, who has shown themselves to be potentially questionable against South Carolina.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: Uh so this is a big like show-me game.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Um I think this game to me mirrors a lot what I see in the Tennessee-Oklahoma game, where you know Michigan fans are kind of questioning what they have, but they have the home field advantage and they have a lot that they hope to get right this game.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: I just don't think that like things flick just because they've got a big game at home.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: So I like USC to win this game.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I'm this the spread scene feels about right to me.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: I think USC is better.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't, I don't know exactly who's gonna win, or I mean I'm not sure who's gonna cover for sure.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: I think USC's gonna win.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: I think it's kind of close.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: What I actually think is gonna happen, I think it's gonna be a low scoring game.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, this the over-under is 44 and a half currently.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: If I'm here's something, here's why I say this: if I'm Sharon Moore and I'm Alex Orgy, I'm trying to shorten this game as much as possible.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: Um, I want this game to be a six-position game if I can help it, seven position game.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, control clock, run the bejee of the ball.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: No big Lincoln Riley and Zachariah Branch, all those high flying offensive players, and Lincoln Riley, who's an excellent schemer for all the things he does off the field.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm trying to shorten this game as much as possible.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: For that reason, if I had to take a spread, I think I would take Michigan to cover.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: I think I'm gonna keep it close, but I really like the under.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: I really like the under in this one.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: I was like under 44 points.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: What's the spread?
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Spread is uh USC minus six, uh, or the over-under is 44 and a half.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: I so I was kind of split, but I feel like as you know, the more we talk about it, I think USC wins, and I think this is kind of like the like cracking open like the the clamshell, and this is like Michigan being like, okay, we're we're not last year's team.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: USC wins by multiple scores.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: The the the confetti is finally swept up and put into the trash can.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all right.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: All right, uh, no agreement there.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: All right, Utah at Okee State.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: Probably for now, I mean we're talking about case earlier, but this might be the for the number one spot in the Big 12.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, Oklahoma State's a two-point favorite.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, this game is in Stillwater, which we know is a tough place to play.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Uh Cam Rising is according to is going to play.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: I know he had a finger injury for a while.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: They're saying he's in.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Um, Oklahoma State is 3-0, but it's ugly 3-0.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I I wrote down here Ollie Gordon, more like ordinary Gordon.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Nice, I guess.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm just underwhelmed with Oklahoma State.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think anything you see about Oklahoma State is like you're really afraid of.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: And I get Cam rising to injury.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: I get that they've lost a lot of playmakers as well.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm just gonna go with the better coach, the better defense, and I know they're on the road.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: So I got Utah coming down there and getting a win.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know who I don't know what I think might be really close game, but I just I don't have any faith in Gordon or Ali Bowman anymore.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so this one I will agree with you on because Allie Gordon and and Oklahoma State have not shown any ability to run the ball, they've run the ball for like 74 yards per game or something like that.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Like Ali Gordon's not doing anything.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's his fault.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: I think he's still a fantastic back.
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: I don't know where the problem's coming, um, but they need him to be super effective if they're gonna win games.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I just think I trust cam rising, I trust Utah more.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, give me the youth.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Baylor.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: At Colorado, uh two-point spreadspring was a pickup at one point.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Daquan Finn.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Baylor's quarterback is out again.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: This is another Sawyer Robertson game.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm just gonna get right to it.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me bait, give me Baylor, give me a randa.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm gonna back my guy.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I think he is rebuilding that team.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: I think he's gonna play defense.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: I don't think Colorado's gonna even bother.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: I think Baylor's gonna do enough things to slow down Shadur and those guys.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're gonna get it done.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: I think Baylor is a well-coached defensive team, and that's gonna be the difference.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Give me Baylor to win outright, cover the two-point spread.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll go, I'll go with you, I guess.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll take Baylor.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: I don't care about this game.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: It's like talking about two teams that don't matter.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: I don't we said we weren't gonna talk about Colorado anymore.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: I know, I like care about Dion.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: That's when we care about Colorado.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Give me a reason to care, other than your Instagram followers don't care.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Uh NC State at Clemson.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Clemson Clemson's a 20, 20 and a half point favorite.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: This game is at noon, I think it's on ABC.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Um, uh Grayson McCall is broken.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know if Tennessee did it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know if we I don't know if we saw it with our own eyes when we were there in Charlotte.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Uh NC State looks bad.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, I really like Dave Doran.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna keep saying that.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: I like Kevin Catezion.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: I think he's a good coach.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: This team has looked bad all year.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't think their offense is right.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think I'm wondering if Grayson McCall is hurt um potentially.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I also I really thought Clemson uh bounced back after a brutal just Georgia game.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Um, they beat uh App State 66 to 18.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: It seems like they've kind of figured some things out.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Um, Louisiana Tech, uh the NC State win last week was 30-20.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: Um, this is just a this is purely a lack of confidence in NC State.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: And I think Clemson has something to prove.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: They're trying to put that Georgia game behind them.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: I got Clemson minus whatever.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Clemson's gonna win by uh four touchdowns.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: I think NC State's a much worse team than we thought they were.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I would agree with that somewhat.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: I think this is like a knee-jerk game, right?
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: Like we we had like Clemson written off, or some people did.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and but they've rented the ship a little bit, and everyone's dogging on NC State for what Tennessee did to them.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: I think this is somewhere in the middle.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: I think uh Clemson, I think Clemson wins this game, but I don't think they cover.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: So I like this to be a closer game.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Clemson pulls ahead and wins by a couple scores, but doesn't cover okay.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Uh that's the five minutes.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the homers UVA at Coastal Carolina.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: Coastal Carolina is 3-0.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: This is a game that Tony Elliott has to have.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: This is a swing game, they're gonna make a ball.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: They gotta have it.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: Um, Coastal Carolina has some things working against him that Maryland did not.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Those boys are not Big Ten boys, they are not as big.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: UVA is not gonna be out muscled like that at the point of attack, which I really think is how UVA is gonna get beat, unfortunately, by a lot of teams, but a lot of bigger teams.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: Coastal isn't that.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: This is a good matchup for UVA, despite the fact that it's on the road, because they are just a smaller G4 program, and I think that um UVA's uh defense and their offense, I think McCalkeye Fields is gonna show up.
- 47:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me UVA to go into Coastal, get a win, get back to three and one.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: Anything on the UVA coastal game?
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Um, no, I think you know this is a game you kind of get right, you get you lean back on on your athletes and you take care of business.
- 48:03SPEAKER_02: And I like UVA to do that.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Uh UCLA at LSU.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: LSU is 24 point favorites.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, like I said earlier, just continue to get better.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: Uh Caden Durham worked a freshman in.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Harold Perkins has moved from the Sam to the star position, which is kind of a blank big.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: Actually, you're after to explain to me someday what the difference between a Sam linebacker and a star is.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: I really don't know.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but it seems like that's worked out well.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: Zy Alexander came back from his ACL.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Seems like he's really set himself up with the cornerback.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: Play calling's got a little bit better, safety plays got a little bit better.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: LSU is not gonna lose this game.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know if they're gonna cover it.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: They're 0-3 against the spread this year.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: They've yet to cover a spread this year.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna say use.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Actually, I'll say I'll take the points.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: I'll take UCLA plus 24 and a half.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: Um, that actually feels like what might happen.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, give me your LSU UCLA.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Is this the crackback?
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Is this the blow through game?
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't think I mean UCLA is a bad team.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: This is a team where they got destroyed by Indiana last week.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is a game where you, you know, if you're LLC, you're trying to figure out your identity.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: Like that's just as important as you know, anything else early in the season.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: Try to figure out what works, figure out what doesn't.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: And so what how much they win by doesn't matter.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: It's just like what you see on the field, get right, don't get injured, and you know, move on to the next game.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: So I don't know whether they cover, it doesn't matter.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: It doesn't matter.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: This is the if you if LSU is gonna put up a fight against Old Miss in three weeks, they have to they have to turn in at least one complete performance.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: They've yet to do that this year, they've yet to turn in a good football 60-minute version of a football game.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: It has to happen this week or against South Alabama, and that's really the question is is it going to happen?
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Is it and is it going to happen this week?
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: I just I don't know with so much position changes, with so much reshuffling, moving guys around, and you have to keep in mind new defensive coordinator, new offensive coordinator, new position coaches at every level of defense.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: I think every unit's like still a pretty like unfinished product, frankly.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: So it's like, when are these things gonna start to come together?
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: And it might not be till the offseason.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a lot of things.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, that's a fair take.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: You want to see a full performance, but like what we see as fans is not the same thing that coaches see, right?
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: Like, we're not we're judging things by like what we see play to play.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: They're looking at specific assignments, so you know, the score, what we see, not the same thing.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: You want to see a dominant performance, obviously.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, the spread, not so important.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: You want to see, you know, foot on neck.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: You know, you want to see like guys playing with passion, you want to see assignment football.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: So, are you taking LSU minus 24 or UCLA plus 24?
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, I'll take uh I'll take LSU.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, all right, we disagree.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: All right, moving on.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, next one is Rutgers at Virginia Tech.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: Virginia Tech is five and a half point favorite.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: This is back in the comfy confines of Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, Virginia.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: Um, we need Virginia Tech to be the best version of themselves.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: I just watched a Virginia school get pushed around by a Big Ten team.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: So I've got a little, I've got a little PTSD from my experience in Charlottesville last weekend.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: I am worried, straight up worried about the hookies.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: We already talked about a little bit, a little bit.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: Athan Kalakmanis, the Greek rocket, everyone from uh um Minnesota, he's the Rutgers quarterback.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: He's not good.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: Um, but who is good is Kyle Manungay, Rutgers running back, who is I think is leading the Big Ten in rushing.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Um, Virginia Tech's defense is gonna have to just play really physical point of attack football to slow down Rutgers rushing attack.
- 51:31SPEAKER_01: I can't believe I'm saying that, but I'm actually unironically saying that.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: Um, that they've got a bunch of Rutgers' offensive line, it's like all seniors, those are big kids.
- 51:39SPEAKER_01: They're actually a pretty solid unit.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I think I think the difference is going to be um Virginia Tech's pass rush.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: They've got to get after, they've got to make a difference.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: I think they've I think they have a real chance there on the defensive line.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: I also think Virginia Tech's wide receivers have to have to really help out Kyron Jones.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Kyron Jones and Tutin have been the offense.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: It's Kyron Jones left.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Tutin carry the ball 23 times for 96 yards, squeezing out four yards carry, something like that.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: They're gonna need some big plays.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Um, drones and tootin can't do it themselves, and honestly, they're just they're just not explosive enough on the ground without some sort of vertical passing threat.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: So I think for Hokies this week, it's going to be Virginia Tech vertical passing attack opening up.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: And I think uh that defensive line finally get the quarterback in some sacks.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, I think this game is all about like swing plays, like explosive plays.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: Um, both of these teams have shown to be sort of built on sustained drives, like rushing the ball, like you know, dink and dunk.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and if there are swing plays to be had, like you gotta think hokies are gonna take them, they're at home.
- 52:49SPEAKER_02: Like it's like you've got to surge on the momentum of the home crowd.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: And I think the hokies rely on the home crowd to to get the win and cover the spread.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: I like I just like them in this spot.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't trust Rutgers.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: You whatever.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: I don't think they're a good football team.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: You don't love the coaching prowess of Greg Ciano?
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: You know that I do not.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, I think this is a prime time for the Hokies to kind of come into their own, step up, and like be a little not the team that we thought they'd be, but like show me that they are shades of the team that we thought they'd be.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: They did this last year.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, you have to remember they lost to Rutgers, Marshall, Purdue.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: This they started the season about as bad as it could have got, and they rattled off five or six wins and they found a gear.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: You know, we all hoped that that team was going to start the season this year.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: It hasn't happened yet, but like it very easily could.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: And maybe this is the week, much like LSU, Virginia Tech is going through some kind of growing pains.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: Maybe the team that we maybe the Virginia Tech team we see in a month is much better than we see.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: And then we're talking about them in the ACC top two or three pecking order.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: But I I mean, and and a home game is like the right time to do that.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, yeah, it's tough to do on the it's tough to do on the road.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Um, so back in coming confides of uh lane.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: Hopefully they have a big bounce back.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: All right, cool.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: The game of the week, the one where you all I know you had this circle in your calendar for months.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: Um, it's going, it's it's happening.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: I know you got some friends going to this game.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: Tennessee at Oklahoma, the spread opened at minus three and a half last week.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: It's when I got it.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: I'm a genius.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: Um, it has since moved all the way to minus seven.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: Um Vegas saw uh Oklahoma's struggle with two lane, and they saw Tennessee pretty much uh boat race everybody.
- 54:35SPEAKER_01: Um, this is your game, this is your matchup.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: I know you've been reading Mess of Sports.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, give us give us what you got.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this one.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Um the money is flooding in on Tennessee to cover, right?
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Like the spread keeps getting wider, and everyone is in love with this storyline of Josh Heipel returning to his alma mater and playing.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: And you know, is he out for blood?
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Is he super emotional?
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: And um, what does that look like?
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: What does that mean for his team?
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Um, this is the big uh first big road test for Nico I Amaleava.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: Um, tons of really, really good, you know, media storylines, right?
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: What does that mean for how the game plays out?
- 55:23SPEAKER_02: Not a whole lot.
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: Like Josh Heifel is like steady Eddie.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: Like, he's not anyone who knows him, anyone who reports on him, talks about him, he is like just not gonna let this moment get to him.
- 55:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, same for Nico, like he is kind of like flatline, like that's one of the things about him, and that's remarkable as a you know, true uh retro freshman.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: I don't think this moment's gonna be too big for either of them.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: And when I look at the matchups across the board, when I look at you know, offensive line, defensive line, um wide receivers, secondary, there's not a single unit that Oklahoma has that is better than Tennessee's.
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: And so I think that the game starts out slow.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: I think um, you know, maybe it it takes a little bit for Tennessee's offense to find its footing, but I think Tennessee's defense is strong enough, and especially their defensive line, um, against Oklahoma's offensive line, who's very injured, very suspect, has given up like multiple three sacks, I think, a game thus far, unable to find a run game.
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: Uh their quarterback's been the best running uh threat thus far.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: I think it's just too much like to think that they find their footing offensively in this game.
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: And I think that it's close probably early, and Tennessee starts to pull away second half.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: I think they win by multiple scores.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: I think it's a good, exciting game, and we see a lot from both teams, but there's just too much offensively and defensively from Tennessee for Oklahoma to overcome.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: Unless they unless there are some uncharacteristic turnovers and it makes it interesting late.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Let's play devil's advocate here.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: You're Brent Venables.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: You are coaching your team to win this game, to beat the Vols.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: And you are telling you're telling your coaching staff these are our three keys to victory, these are our three ways that we could potentially exploit or attack Tennessee.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: What are those three things?
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Give me some things.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: If you're Brent Venables and you are attacking this volunteer team in Norman on Saturday night, rowdy as hell, hot as hell.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: What are you telling your team?
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna what's what do you think?
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Where do you think the chin's?
- 57:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think early on, uh you have to rely on the atmosphere, right?
- 57:55SPEAKER_02: It's you're it's you're you're facing a guy who's it's first his big first, you know, road test.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: So you don't want to let Dylan Sampson or Samson, yeah.
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: You don't want to let the run game gash you for eight, nine yards a carry.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: So you load up the box and you try to you try to make them beat you over the top, and you try to bring some exotic blitzes and and bring some things that um maybe get some rattled early because the crowd's still in it.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: Like that's the my approach.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Um Venables can do that.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: He did that at Clemson.
- 58:27SPEAKER_01: He was a good blitzer, he's he's a good defensive guy.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: He did that at Clemson as well, very good with the blitz.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: I can see that for sure.
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you don't want because if if you're just relying on the run game to get you in second, third, you know, and short all the time, um, that's gonna make it easy for uh Nico and Josh Heifel.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: So that's the first thing that I think you do is is you try to load up the box, you try to bring some some pressures from from different places.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: Um make Nico rise the occasion, sure.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, and he can beat you with his legs.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: So, you know, maybe you maybe you make him try to run the ball a little bit more, take some hits, get him, you know, out of the flow of the game.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Um on the other side of the ball, how's the offense?
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: How is the offense attacking this defense?
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: What what's what is their what's their if if there's a way that if we're talking about it, if we're sad about a volunteer loss a week from now, how what did the Tennessee what did the Tennessee defense give up?
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: What did the Oklahoma offense do?
- 59:23SPEAKER_02: So that's a tough one because there's nothing that the Oklahoma offense has done to show to this point that they are a yeah, they're they're one of the worst offenses in the SEC to this point.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: So far.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: So we have to think that they put it together.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: We have to think Jackson Arnold.
- 59:39SPEAKER_02: Um, it's it's gotta be splash plays, it's gotta be, it's gotta be hitting on deep balls, it's gotta be um testing the secondary.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you you you miss on a pressure and you hit a deep ball.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: You know, you you you gamble on a blitz and you get burnt with a deep ball.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: Uh their running game is one of the worst in the SEC.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: Um, so it's gotta be that because they have shown not much else.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's a super talented guy.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: He beat out Dylan Gabriel.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Dylan Gabriel, who's one of the best quarterbacks in the country, is at Oregon because he was lost his job to Jackson Arnold.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: He has not shown it yet.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_01: We have not seen it.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: He didn't beat him out.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_02: They they pushed him out the door to keep the young guy.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I that's true, but there's no way Brent Venables will let that happen if he thought he was better champion.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, Brent Venables is year three for him.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: He needs to get some wins.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: I don't think he would have let Dylan Grabriel walk if he thought my team will be better off 2024.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: Without, I think both folks and Norman, based on what I've read, it seems like most folks Norman seem to think that uh Arnold is the future, is the better guy.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: But I agree with you, he has not shown it yet.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: We have not seen it yet.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: That offensive line is a real liability.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: I know it's five new stars, so that never helps, especially in a big boy conference with the SEC, but like you gotta do something.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: So I think it's I think Arnold has to show us a gear that he has not shown us yet.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Could he?
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, I think everybody thinks that, but we haven't seen it yet.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: He's gonna have to scramble for his life all game.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: I think that's gonna be it's it's he's gonna be scrambling for his life all game.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: It's how much does Tennessee get home, and how often do those scrambles turn into big plays for Oklahoma?
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_02: Because I think Tennessee can sustain drives and and hit enough big plays to win on offense, but I don't think that those scrambles and those big plays for Oklahoma can happen based on what they've shown me.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_02: So I think it's a good game.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: I I do think I think that the the atmosphere that Tennessee is walking into is um formidable, and I think it's gonna be a good one.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be an exciting one.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_02: I mean I'm psyched for it.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: I can't wait.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's definitely the headline event.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: I'll have I will have both my eyes fixated on that as well.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: So you're taking Tennessee to cover, I assume.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: The cover the minus seven, win by what's a final, what's the final score you got on that one?
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, final score.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_02: Um, I like Tennessee to cover.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: I think they win by multiple scores.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: If Tennessee wins by 17, I'm not surprised.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, so if it's over under 57 points, that implies a 40 to 21, 38 to 21 type vol victory.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Is that's what you're seeing?
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think it's close.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: I think it's close in the first half, and the balls are just too good in the second half.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, very good.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Well, those are all of our picks.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: So the four that we agreed on tonight, uh Nebraska minus eight, Utah Money Line, Baylor Money Mine, Tennessee minus seven for our four parlay for our first official Mike Blitz bets of the week.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: You bet ten dollars that will pay you$144 plus$140, 42 is the payout on the parlay.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: So uh be sure to tail that if you want to get paid.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, folks, that is the end of the Mike Blitz.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: It's been awesome, dude.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_01: I'm excited for you.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: Um, obviously, going to Norman's could be an awesome environment, awesome game.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: Another great week, college football, a lot of good games.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, I hope you enjoy the rest of your time um in that lovely hotel room.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, take a lot, take a long hot shower.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: Turn the ACF.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_01: Use all the towels.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: Anything else for the go to the order?
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: No, I think you can button it.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: All right, y'all.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: Have a good week.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: See ya.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: All the towels.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: All the towels.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_01: Some people don't do that.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: Halli will go.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, Hollywood go.
