- 0:07Speaker 1: It's Me Podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth, and
- 0:15Speaker 2: today we're joined by Brody, Corey, Nate, Omar, Sarah and John.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:23Speaker 2: meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking.
- 0:27Speaker 2: There's a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred dollars
- 0:29Speaker 2: to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing. We're starting
- 0:33Speaker 2: today's show with a mail bag question. If you want some,
- 0:36Speaker 2: if you want the crew to answer your question, send
- 0:38Speaker 2: an email to Trivia at the medeater dot com. The
- 0:41Speaker 2: subject line mail bag. This is from Eric from York.
- 0:46Speaker 2: He says, any advice for staying warm on a cold
- 0:49Speaker 2: winter hunt without overheating. I hunt Northern Pa and I
- 0:52Speaker 2: usually walk one to two miles in then have long
- 0:56Speaker 2: cold sits usually posted up in some sort of downfall.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Any hips or gear suggestions to keep you warm without
- 1:03Speaker 2: fully overheating. First, John, you work at the Flagship store
- 1:08Speaker 2: downtown Bozeman. If Eric from York came into the store
- 1:11Speaker 2: and told you his conundrum, what advice would you give him.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Well, the first thing I would say is to Pa Guy, Yes, Yes,
- 1:19Speaker 3: grew up in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. I would say, pay
- 1:22Speaker 3: attention to that next to skin layer. First, you have
- 1:26Speaker 3: to keep yourself dry, and I just know from my experience,
- 1:30Speaker 3: as soon as that next to skin layer gets soaked,
- 1:34Speaker 3: it's game over for pretty much the entire day. So
- 1:37Speaker 3: my recommendation would be whatever you're going to a tree
- 1:41Speaker 3: stand or a ground blind, hike in with the least
- 1:44Speaker 3: amount of stuff possible. Keep your body dry. It's gonna
- 1:47Speaker 3: be cold, it's gonna be uncomfortable. But once you get
- 1:50Speaker 3: to your stand or wherever you're hunting. I think he
- 1:52Speaker 3: said he was sitting in like a pile blowover, downfall
- 1:55Speaker 3: falls downfall, yep. Once you get there, take a second,
- 1:58Speaker 3: let your body kind of dry out, vent.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And then put on your heavier clothes.
- 2:03Speaker 3: It's it's easier to be miserable for one hour hiking
- 2:06Speaker 3: in than for the entire twelve day.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Six.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I would also recommend driving to your spot, whether you're
- 2:13Speaker 3: leaving from camp or anything, don't put the heater on
- 2:17Speaker 3: full blast when you're going from point A to point B.
- 2:20Speaker 3: On going to a trailhead or whatever that makes your
- 2:23Speaker 3: feet swet. And I've learned that the hard way as well.
- 2:26Speaker 2: That catches up to you pretty quick. Brody. Any advice
- 2:29Speaker 2: for this other PA hunter?
- 2:31Speaker 5: No, I think John got it.
- 2:32Speaker 6: I mean the main thing is hike cold, like and
- 2:35Speaker 6: you're not even gonna be cold for that long unless
- 2:37Speaker 6: it's like minus forty degrees or something like. You can
- 2:41Speaker 6: hike in twenty fifteen twenty degree weather with like a
- 2:44Speaker 6: base layer as your upper layer and you know, maybe
- 2:49Speaker 6: some ljs and pants.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But like, hike cold.
- 2:53Speaker 5: And the other thing I would say is that don't
- 2:56Speaker 5: be afraid to build a fire man.
- 2:58Speaker 6: My dad and his buddies used to hunt the mountains
- 3:00Speaker 6: in Pennsylvania all the time and they would stand around
- 3:03Speaker 6: a fire often and they killed bucks doing it.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Absolutely, And don't be afraid to pack an extra set
- 3:10Speaker 3: of bass layers with you too.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I think if you.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Absolutely think you're not gonna make it through the entire
- 3:14Speaker 3: day without sweating, have a dry setup and with bass
- 3:18Speaker 3: layers to.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Go like, it's just like a fact of life. If
- 3:21Speaker 6: you're sitting still for ten hours, you're gonna get cold, Like.
- 3:25Speaker 6: I don't think there's any like amount of layering, and
- 3:29Speaker 6: that's gonna get you around. You're gonna get cold, so
- 3:31Speaker 6: you're gonna have to get up and walk.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Around now and then any other advice.
- 3:35Speaker 4: For Eric A big proponent of taking the truck heater
- 3:39Speaker 4: thing a step farther and never driving in the socks
- 3:42Speaker 4: that I'm gonna wear into the field. Change the socks
- 3:45Speaker 4: to the truck before you leave. You're gonna get sweaty.
- 3:48Speaker 7: You're driving croc shoes coming handy.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well, yeah, you gotta you gotta have the
- 3:53Speaker 4: driving shoes, the hiking shoes.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Big muff guy, put a muff on.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I love a hand dude. I thought held when First
- 4:00Speaker 2: Light and Fachef both came out with one.
- 4:02Speaker 8: I'm an Fachf guy, big fan. But whatever, muff keeps
- 4:05Speaker 8: your hands warm and then your fingers are nice and
- 4:08Speaker 8: dexterous when you need to pull.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Tryer, especially if you're like bow hunting or yeah, turkey hunting,
- 4:12Speaker 2: we feel like you really need your fingers. Hand muffs
- 4:14Speaker 2: are great. As the other folks said, layers so important.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I love hand until warmers. I know some people like
- 4:21Speaker 2: col absolutely hate them, like created by the devil himself,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but they work and and they're cheap and effective and
- 4:29Speaker 2: I find you know, toes and hands are the first
- 4:32Speaker 2: thing to get cold, and those will get you through
- 4:34Speaker 2: like a bad thirty minute stretch. They're also not heavy.
- 4:37Speaker 2: There's rechargeable ones that exist.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Yeah, my dad used those.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Rechargeable Yeah, like Zippo has one. Yeah, there's one that
- 4:44Speaker 2: you just plug a battery into or they are a battery.
- 4:47Speaker 5: And I don't know if they still make them like
- 4:49Speaker 5: that actually light them.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I got a crazy one. What about using it.
- 4:56Speaker 9: I'm not recommending this, but Tom Brady and his games
- 4:59Speaker 9: and cold Game would use a wet suit, and I'm
- 5:01Speaker 9: wondering if that would be interesting at all.
- 5:04Speaker 10: The wet suit has to get water in it to sweat.
- 5:10Speaker 10: You could sweat so much to run doesn't work.
- 5:16Speaker 11: Uh.
- 5:16Speaker 2: The last one I would say is I had a
- 5:19Speaker 2: beard for like eight years and then I got rid
- 5:21Speaker 2: of it like two years ago. And what a difference
- 5:23Speaker 2: that made. Like a beard genuinely keeps your face warmer
- 5:27Speaker 2: when it's really cold out. It made a difference. I
- 5:29Speaker 2: don't know what your facial hair situation is, Eric, but
- 5:32Speaker 2: like a beard in the fall is much better than
- 5:38Speaker 2: doesn't work for any other advice from Eric or for Eric.
- 5:44Speaker 7: Yeah, think about a down kit, down pants and down
- 5:47Speaker 7: jacket packs.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Tight and light, really light.
- 5:49Speaker 7: A little bird, he told me first Light might be
- 5:51Speaker 7: coming out with a new white tail specific pants and
- 5:54Speaker 7: maybe eating something for your feet this fall.
- 5:57Speaker 1: All right, to be on the lookout for that.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Or we have some house key being there's one week
- 6:01Speaker 2: left in the auction house of oddities. We have up
- 6:03Speaker 2: for bid of kayak, bear hide, handmade boat dinosaur earrings,
- 6:07Speaker 2: a boat motor, sign books, signboard games, and more. All
- 6:10Speaker 2: the money goes to the Meat Eater Land Access Initiative,
- 6:13Speaker 2: which creates more public access for hunters and anglers. Go
- 6:16Speaker 2: check out the auction block at the meadeater dot com
- 6:19Speaker 2: slash auction.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Did you get a bid on that boat motor?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yet? There's one bid, a singular bid.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That's the last great deal in that auction it is.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think it's even still a good deal. It could
- 6:29Speaker 2: go a few thousand dollars and someone's still gonna come
- 6:31Speaker 2: away feeling like they won. All right. The Shelby index
- 6:34Speaker 2: for today is a four, so our winners should get
- 6:37Speaker 2: eight correct answers. With that, we're onto the game of trivia.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Play the drop fill. Look, I need to know what
- 6:45Speaker 2: I stand.
- 6:45Speaker 10: To win everything?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Just tend to win everything.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Game on, Suckers should won. The topic is natural history.
- 7:02Speaker 2: This first great question is via Titus McKenty. According to
- 7:06Speaker 2: the National Drought Mitigation Center, which of these states was
- 7:11Speaker 2: hit hardest by the dust Bowl? Is it Illinois, Oklahoma,
- 7:18Speaker 2: Wyoming or Ohio? Quick answers from Nate Brody Corey According
- 7:26Speaker 2: to the National Drought Mitigation Center, which of these states
- 7:30Speaker 2: was hit hardest by the dust Bowl? Is it Illinois, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Ohio?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Quick answer today?
- 7:41Speaker 5: Are you bringing the vibes like.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm bringing the heat?
- 7:44Speaker 2: You know?
- 7:45Speaker 1: I was thinking just like you, just like locked locked in. Dude.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna be real bummed if I get this one wrong.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Me too.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I feel like the first question, when you feel good
- 7:53Speaker 8: about it and you get it wrong, you might as
- 7:54Speaker 8: well just leave again.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Your four states Illinois, Oklahoma, Wyoming, which was hit the
- 8:01Speaker 2: hardest by the dust bowl? Is everybody ready? Go ahead
- 8:04Speaker 2: and reveal your answers? Corey and Sarah and Omar. The
- 8:08Speaker 2: whole room says Oklahoma. The whole room got it right,
- 8:11Speaker 2: Well done, room. The correct answer is Oklahoma.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Was that our reading anybody else in reading club.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Grapes wrath, oh Steinbock. He loved right about ye.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That's why I got that right.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Although the dust Bowl was felt across North America, the
- 8:27Speaker 2: six states hit the hardest were Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and New Mexico. Those six states became known as the
- 8:35Speaker 2: dust Bowl States. It's estimated that two point five million
- 8:39Speaker 2: people migrated out of the dust Bowl States during the
- 8:42Speaker 2: nineteen thirties, creating one of the largest migrations in American history.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Here's a map from National Geographics showing the driest areas.
- 8:51Speaker 2: The general dust Bowl zone stretches from like Lubbock, Texas,
- 8:55Speaker 2: to Denver, Colorado, to Lincoln, Nebraska. But ground zero is
- 8:59Speaker 2: the Oklahoma pan Handle and in just that general region.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Question two the topic is fishing. This next great question
- 9:08Speaker 2: is via Garrett Houston. This morbid term is defined as
- 9:13Speaker 2: quote a fishing technique where the bait, lure or fly
- 9:17Speaker 2: flows naturally with the waters current. Sarah and Corey and
- 9:25Speaker 2: Brody all like their answer. This morbid term is defined
- 9:28Speaker 2: as a fishing technique where the bait, lure, or fly
- 9:32Speaker 2: flows naturally with the water's current.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Overrated.
- 9:44Speaker 2: There is going to be some controversial language here in
- 9:47Speaker 2: the flavor text, then you guys can duke it out.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Got something here that would say it's not overrated. This
- 9:56Speaker 2: morbid term is defined as a fishing technique where the
- 9:59Speaker 2: bait or fly flows naturally with the waters current angler, Nate,
- 10:04Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 10:05Speaker 7: No?
- 10:05Speaker 1: Of course not, dude.
- 10:07Speaker 8: I feel he does think about this after I got
- 10:11Speaker 8: just drags the last time, I think I should get double.
- 10:16Speaker 8: You know, when you see someone like like Brody goes
- 10:18Speaker 8: and runs a marathon, you're like, cool, bro, that's really impressive.
- 10:22Speaker 8: It'd be like running a marathon without legs, Like, that's
- 10:25Speaker 8: how whatever. I'm playing trivia, that's how it is.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well, you just.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Grow some legs.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna sea legs. No, it's everybody readyby man's nobody else.
- 10:40Speaker 5: It's nobody else.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I can compete without a whole bird.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Listen, it's nobody else's fault that you're like an incomplete outdoorsman.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just a victim, dude. My dad never took
- 10:49Speaker 1: me fishing. How about that?
- 10:53Speaker 6: God daddy issues over fish?
- 10:55Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answer.
- 11:00Speaker 5: No way, dude, let's go and Sarah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Say dead drift. Oh, Mar's got an answer, John Nate
- 11:07Speaker 2: and Brodie say dead drift. They got it. The correct
- 11:11Speaker 2: answer is dead drift.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Three to two.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Other names to this fishing technique is drag, free drift
- 11:17Speaker 2: or natural drift. Dead drifting could be could describe a
- 11:20Speaker 2: walleye angler using a bottom bouncer, or a fly fisherman
- 11:23Speaker 2: throwing a dry fly. Hatch Magazine says that mastering the
- 11:27Speaker 2: dead drift with any presentation is quote the ultimate challenge
- 11:31Speaker 2: in fly fishing.
- 11:32Speaker 6: How is dragging a bottom bouncer around a dead drift?
- 11:35Speaker 2: If you were just going with the current, if you
- 11:37Speaker 2: were just like letting the wind push you, I call
- 11:39Speaker 2: that a dead drift, just naturally going. So Hatch Magazine
- 11:43Speaker 2: calls it the ultimate challenge in fly fishing. Brody and
- 11:46Speaker 2: Sarah disagree with each other.
- 11:50Speaker 1: We do.
- 11:51Speaker 6: I think it's I can tell you that hundreds of uh,
- 11:57Speaker 6: not very skilled clients cut thousands of trout without using
- 12:05Speaker 6: a dead drift.
- 12:06Speaker 4: I'm not saying that you.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Sometimes I would be like, don't mend it. You don't
- 12:11Speaker 5: want to drift.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Okay, It's not that you don't catch trout without a
- 12:16Speaker 4: good drag free drift, but with the majority of like
- 12:21Speaker 4: if you're fishing small flies and light tackle, like dead
- 12:25Speaker 4: bugs don't swim mm hm, and you.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Know, like like dead bugs don't swim, the live ones do.
- 12:33Speaker 7: There's one they like it more rare than they overdone.
- 12:37Speaker 4: But like, if you're fishing like two little tiny nymphs
- 12:42Speaker 4: and light tackle, any little tiny drag your fis leave
- 12:49Speaker 4: the column in which your flies should be.
- 12:51Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 12:52Speaker 7: I would agree that that could be the pinnacle of
- 12:55Speaker 7: a fly fishermen's ability to get a perfect dead drift,
- 12:59Speaker 7: But that doesn't all always work.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Like with bobber fishing, I think the difference between like
- 13:03Speaker 4: lucking into fish and consistently catching fish is a really really.
- 13:07Speaker 7: Good emerging nymphs.
- 13:09Speaker 6: I would say that I didn't wait guide much and
- 13:12Speaker 6: I hated nimp fishing.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's the.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Majority of I would say, Like, looking back, half the
- 13:21Speaker 6: strikes when I had people nimping with a bobber, half
- 13:24Speaker 6: the strikes came after the drift like ended and the stars.
- 13:29Speaker 11: Oh they starts. Yeah, absolutely, But like.
- 13:31Speaker 5: That's not a dead drift.
- 13:32Speaker 4: It's not a dead drift. I think I think most
- 13:38Speaker 4: fly anglers just lucked their way into fish relatively.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Question four. Excuse me, question three. The topic is foraging.
- 13:47Speaker 5: You're holding your tongue.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Foraging. The blank cherry, which is known for its extremely
- 13:55Speaker 2: tart taste, is the state fruit of North Dakota.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Sorry, fast, dude, I told you I'm locked in.
- 14:01Speaker 2: And that's that's one word. The blank cherry, which is
- 14:05Speaker 2: known for its extremely tart taste, is the state fruit
- 14:09Speaker 2: of North Dakota.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Shoot what Nate.
- 14:12Speaker 4: I feel like instead of asking for extra points when
- 14:14Speaker 4: you get fishing questions, right, you should just learn how
- 14:17Speaker 4: to fish and then no one's gonna give you any.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Sarah is begging to teach you how to fish. I
- 14:23Speaker 2: feel like I've seen this play out in multi episodes.
- 14:27Speaker 4: That's wrong.
- 14:27Speaker 10: Don't listen real, just dude, if I had all the
- 14:32Speaker 10: time in the world, I would love to go fishing.
- 14:35Speaker 4: It's like, it's such a good shoulder season thing.
- 14:38Speaker 5: What else it's great for? Tell me you're gonna have
- 14:41Speaker 5: a little kid and just take see.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I've been thinking about that, dude.
- 14:45Speaker 6: That's the only thing sunfish and they'll be all excited.
- 14:50Speaker 7: Yeah, don't do it, dude.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Maybe I can stop the cycle.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Man I'm telling you from the blank cherry, which is
- 14:58Speaker 2: known for its extremely heart taste, is the state fruit
- 15:02Speaker 2: of North Dakota. John, do you have this one right?
- 15:06Speaker 2: I don't think so. Omar, do you have this one right?
- 15:08Speaker 1: I don't think so either.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Corey without an answer, Oh that's not true, Okay, Nate,
- 15:13Speaker 2: Sarah and Brody like what they have.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I something came and we'll see.
- 15:20Speaker 2: The blank cherry, which is known for its extremely tart taste,
- 15:24Speaker 2: is the state.
- 15:26Speaker 9: I just had some cherries too, but I think they're
- 15:28Speaker 9: from Washington.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Or Risk. Everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Corey says, black cherry. Sarah choke, Omar black, John Black,
- 15:45Speaker 2: Nate choke, Brody choke. The correct answer is the choke cherry.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Nate and Brody and Sarah got that one right. The
- 15:55Speaker 2: taste of a choke cherry is described as being dry, sharp, sour,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and bitter. They are rarely eaten raw, but can be
- 16:03Speaker 2: turned into jellies and syrups. Natives would put them into
- 16:07Speaker 2: pemmican and pudding, with the inner bark being used in
- 16:10Speaker 2: tea to cure sore throats. Choke cherry trees are native
- 16:13Speaker 2: to forty one states. Here's a picture of a choke
- 16:16Speaker 2: cherry right there.
- 16:17Speaker 5: He does things raw, and you wonder what bears are thinking.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Man, Yeah, yeah, I have a choke cherry in my yard.
- 16:24Speaker 2: It's one of the most common trees in my whole neighborhood.
- 16:27Speaker 2: And they taste awful. Ye say, it makes your mouth
- 16:31Speaker 2: dry as legitimate your Your mouth has never felt drier
- 16:34Speaker 2: than after eating a choke cherry. Question for the topic
- 16:38Speaker 2: is biology. Get ready to fill this next great question
- 16:41Speaker 2: is via Tim Alleno. This eleven letter word is defined
- 16:48Speaker 2: as quote a scientist who studies the movement, distribution, and
- 16:52Speaker 2: quality of water across the Earth's surface.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Aren't you married to one of these?
- 16:57Speaker 4: Not married?
- 16:58Speaker 9: But yes?
- 16:58Speaker 2: M dating? Living with fiance to dating? Okay. This eleven
- 17:05Speaker 2: letter word is defined as a scientist who studies the movement, distribution,
- 17:10Speaker 2: and quality of water across the Earth's surface. I got
- 17:14Speaker 2: this wrong. I would no longer be getting man.
- 17:17Speaker 9: I met him too, and I remember one part, and
- 17:22Speaker 9: I don't know if I'm going to get this right.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Is this how he would introduce himself, Sarah. He'd say,
- 17:25Speaker 2: I'm a yeah, okay, No, he did this for the
- 17:29Speaker 2: forest service for five years. Tough look for you.
- 17:32Speaker 8: Yeah, one of one of my top ten favorite conversations
- 17:35Speaker 8: I've had in the past year talking about the subject.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get the other night.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I want to see that list.
- 17:41Speaker 4: He knows a whole lot, you know, salt and valley water, a.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Ski lift mechanic. That dude was one of the most
- 17:48Speaker 1: interesting guys.
- 17:48Speaker 2: That Okay, now we know two of the ten. This
- 17:51Speaker 2: eleven letter word is defined as a scientist who studies
- 17:54Speaker 2: the movement, distribution, and quality of water across the Earth's surface.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. Cory
- 18:06Speaker 2: and Sarah and Omar. No omar, says hydrochemist. Oh, rest
- 18:12Speaker 2: of the room, says hydrologists. Oh, the rest of the
- 18:15Speaker 2: room that rights answers.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Vegas.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The job of a hydrologist is vast. They analyze the
- 18:27Speaker 2: water cycle, manage water resources, monitor water quality, and forecast
- 18:31Speaker 2: natural disasters like floods and droughts. The average salary of
- 18:35Speaker 2: a hydrologist in the United States is ninety two thousand

- 18:45Speaker 1: His exact salary is?
- 18:46Speaker 4: You know, I don't know if I should disclose his

- 18:56Speaker 4: he works for the Gallatin County Department of Environmental Health
- 19:02Speaker 4: doing groundwater and surface water monitoring in Gallatin County.
- 19:06Speaker 2: An important job.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Is he wrapped up in that stuff up at the
- 19:12Speaker 5: y c up there.
- 19:14Speaker 4: No, he's not he. I think they're just out of
- 19:18Speaker 4: his monitoring area and they he does, like well, testing
- 19:22Speaker 4: stuff down in Big Sky.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Some water trouble making going.
- 19:25Speaker 4: There's a lot of water troublemaking.
- 19:27Speaker 2: If you're not from here, you don't know this. But
- 19:29Speaker 2: there's just not enough water in the Gallatin County as
- 19:32Speaker 2: for a lot of the country. And so Sarah's boyfriend
- 19:34Speaker 2: is going to fix that for us. Question five. This

- 20:45Speaker 2: was created in two thousand and one and is best
- 20:47Speaker 2: known for its lightweight camping gear. How do you like
- 20:50Speaker 2: your answer, Nate.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Not great. No, I might change it. I don't want
- 20:55Speaker 1: any I don't want any of your facial.
- 20:57Speaker 5: I guarantee you'll show no emotion and whatsoever.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it all right.
- 21:06Speaker 2: There's a lot of it was pretty emotionless. This Colorado.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I've been taking.
- 21:13Speaker 6: Acting lessons from Phil and he told me how to
- 21:15Speaker 6: do like just dead pans straight face.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You're making a great program.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Named after a big mountain, was created in two thousand
- 21:22Speaker 2: and one, and is best known for its lightweight camping gear.
- 21:24Speaker 2: We'll get a scoreboard update from Phill the engineer after this.
- 21:29Speaker 2: It's everybody ready.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Give me, give me like five ten more seconds, man,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I think mine's wrong. We're gonna try it, though.
- 21:35Speaker 2: We have to put those acting lessons to the test here.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Pretty soon. There's a new podcast coming out where you'll
- 21:41Speaker 2: have some acting from Phil Brody, Corey, Me Randall very excited.
- 21:47Speaker 11: I was only yeah, I only recorded for me, and
- 21:49Speaker 11: I don't know what he's talking about right now.
- 21:51Speaker 5: That sounds funny.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I thought I saw in the in the.
- 21:55Speaker 11: Screen he did it did some I did good fighters.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I don't think it's a secret.
- 21:59Speaker 2: We can say, oh, I don't know how okay the
- 22:01Speaker 2: Gunfighters podcast. You didn't do a script reading for them.
- 22:06Speaker 5: I was supposed to, but uh, what's his name?
- 22:09Speaker 7: Jake?
- 22:11Speaker 5: Just like couldn't get my scheduled line up?

- 22:51Speaker 2: after the twelve thousand foot Big Agnes Mountain, which sits
- 22:55Speaker 2: thirty miles north of downtown Steamboat Springs, where the company
- 22:59Speaker 2: is located. Phil scoreboard update.
- 23:03Speaker 11: Here at halftime, I got Omar hanging on with one.
- 23:08Speaker 4: We're in it.
- 23:09Speaker 11: John's got three. Corey and Nate are now tied up
- 23:13Speaker 11: with four and tied up in first place with perfect
- 23:16Speaker 11: games are Sarah and Brodie.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Wow five points.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Very exciting.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Question Donald McDonald.
- 23:24Speaker 1: No, that's our guy from New York with a snowsuit.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Pennsylvania. Question six, the topic hunting. This dog breed with
- 23:35Speaker 2: a feminine name is described by ak S as being
- 23:39Speaker 2: quote smaller than setters, but leggier than spaniels. The room
- 23:47Speaker 2: is stopped. This dog breed with a feminine name is
- 23:51Speaker 2: described by ak S as being smaller than setters, but
- 23:55Speaker 2: leggier than spaniels. Corey the only player to come up
- 24:00Speaker 2: with an answer so far. Maybe really now, Sarah Brodie
- 24:05Speaker 2: joining him. This dog, read with a feminine name, is
- 24:08Speaker 2: described by A k C as being smaller than setters
- 24:11Speaker 2: but leggier than spaniels. Sarah, do you have this one right? Brody?
- 24:16Speaker 2: Do you have this one right?
- 24:17Speaker 5: Got an answer that makes sense?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Okay?
- 24:19Speaker 2: Corey? Does your answer make sense in my head?
- 24:24Speaker 1: Okay?
- 24:26Speaker 11: You got it?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 24:27Speaker 2: Ok you got this one right.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Und with some of these this past year, a lot
- 24:31Speaker 1: did you know.
- 24:32Speaker 2: A lot.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Cool dogs?
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 24:39Speaker 4: It rather actual spaniel.
- 24:42Speaker 2: But you know this still described by A case as
- 24:50Speaker 2: being smaller.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Than unless all you do is I'll.
- 24:58Speaker 1: What bohunt big old bowl? No, you're right, little bulls
- 25:03Speaker 1: and cows, I.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Don't omar John? Are you ready give up? Go ahead
- 25:09Speaker 2: and reveal your answers? Corey says Collie. Sarah Brittany omar
- 25:14Speaker 2: John without an answer. Nate and Brody say Brittany, they
- 25:18Speaker 2: got it. The correct answer is Brittany. The A k C.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Calls the breed a quote stylish and versatile gun dog.
- 25:27Speaker 2: They say Brittany's are quick and rugged dogs that require
- 25:30Speaker 2: a lot of exercise. Gun Dog Magazine calls intelligence their
- 25:34Speaker 2: strongest trait, but warns that it can work for and
- 25:37Speaker 2: against you. All right, what do we got for a
- 25:39Speaker 2: review for hunting with a Brittany Nate?
- 25:42Speaker 1: It was great.
- 25:42Speaker 8: I mean, I love my dog, but he still kind
- 25:45Speaker 8: of sucks, mainly because I suck at hunting, and.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Those dogs were great.
- 25:49Speaker 8: Like that we shot a pheasant, it dropped and four
- 25:52Speaker 8: dogs couldn't find that pheasant, and that Brittany just ran
- 25:54Speaker 8: right over and grabbed it.
- 25:56Speaker 4: I just think if if you're pheasant hunting, like specifically,
- 26:00Speaker 4: there is no better tool than an English springer's band.
- 26:04Speaker 5: That's why I got one.
- 26:05Speaker 4: They're the best. LA springers are like labs, but more fun.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Question seven the topic is fishing. This next great question
- 26:15Speaker 2: is via Josie Vandenberg. You can. Idaho Salmon River was
- 26:21Speaker 2: given this nickname because it's powerful currents and dangerous rapids
- 26:26Speaker 2: make it impossible to row back upstream. Corey, this is
- 26:33Speaker 2: fishing Idahose Salmon River. I was given this nickname because
- 26:38Speaker 2: it's powerful currents and dangerous rapids make it impossible to
- 26:43Speaker 2: row back upstream. Cory, you got this one right, No idea,
- 26:48Speaker 2: that's where that name came from. Good question, Spencer, Thank you,
- 26:53Speaker 2: thank you. This is via Josie Idaho Salmon River was
- 26:57Speaker 2: given this nickname because it's powerful currents and dangerous rapids
- 27:01Speaker 2: make it impossible to row back upstream. Nate now joining
- 27:05Speaker 2: them with an answer with a guess. With a guess, Corey,
- 27:09Speaker 2: have you ever been on the Salmon River? I have not. Brody, No, Sarah, No.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Are three that where you fly in an airstrip and
- 27:20Speaker 6: then you float down.
- 27:21Speaker 4: The middle fork?
- 27:23Speaker 1: Think?
- 27:23Speaker 2: I think so? Cory and Brody think they have this
- 27:28Speaker 2: one right. Nate, do you have this one right?
- 27:30Speaker 1: Absolutely not.
- 27:33Speaker 4: You have said that for the past couple.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Well, this is question seven. Idahos. Salmon River was given
- 27:41Speaker 2: this nickname because it's powerful currents and dangerous rapids make
- 27:46Speaker 2: it impossible to row back upstream. It's everybody ready, Sarah
- 27:55Speaker 2: coming up with an answer. We're gonna flip over the
- 27:57Speaker 2: white boards after that. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Corey says River of No Return, Sarah says Hell's Canyon,
- 28:05Speaker 2: Omar River of No Return, John Hell's Canyon, Nate Waterslide, Brody,
- 28:11Speaker 2: River of No Return. The correct answer is the River
- 28:15Speaker 2: of No Return. Early settlers in the region gave the
- 28:19Speaker 2: Salmon River this nickname because it was considered a one
- 28:22Speaker 2: way street. Once boats entered the canyon portion of the river,
- 28:26Speaker 2: they would only travel downstream, and when they'd reach their destination,
- 28:29Speaker 2: the boats would be disassembled and used for lumber. The
- 28:33Speaker 2: River of No Return is known for its steelhead, schnook, salmon,
- 28:36Speaker 2: cutthroat trout, bowl trout, sam, smallmouth bass, and white surgeon.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Question eight, the topic is gear f FS, which stands
- 28:48Speaker 2: for bank blank blank, was called quote the most polarizing
- 28:53Speaker 2: topic in the fishing world by Outdoor Life in twenty
- 28:57Speaker 2: twenty four.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It's a fishing question to get question fishing.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Also fishing f FS, which stands for blank blank blank,
- 29:06Speaker 2: was called the most polarizing topic in the fishing world
- 29:10Speaker 2: by Outdoor Life in twenty twenty four.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Do you have this one?
- 29:15Speaker 5: Do I have it right?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yes, Nate and Brody like their answers, closing the gap
- 29:19Speaker 2: with Sarah or oa.
- 29:21Speaker 1: How do you know that because I'm smart? Because you fish?
- 29:25Speaker 4: Is that why you're asking for extra points if you
- 29:27Speaker 4: get questions right?
- 29:28Speaker 1: No, that's because I have no shame.
- 29:32Speaker 8: I think I think we should also implement a squaring
- 29:34Speaker 8: dimension like points, non resident points and stuff.
- 29:37Speaker 1: So when I get the second fishing question right, I
- 29:40Speaker 1: actually get plus four there you go.
- 29:43Speaker 5: One of those f's should be pretty obvious.
- 29:45Speaker 2: F FS which stands for blank blank blank.
- 29:49Speaker 7: I mean I was in the fishing world and this
- 29:52Speaker 7: wasn't pol.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Was called the most polarizing topic in the fishing world
- 29:56Speaker 2: by Outdoor Life in twenty twenty four.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Hard to see and think because of this was going on.
- 30:03Speaker 5: I don't know if we're thinking about the same thing.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Watch it. Fishing Buddy over there.
- 30:12Speaker 2: FFS, which stands for blank blank blank, was called the
- 30:15Speaker 2: most polarizing topic in the fishing world by Outdoor Life
- 30:18Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four. We'll get a scoreboard update from
- 30:22Speaker 2: Phil after this. Corey, do you give up?
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:26Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Corey says, fish blank blank, Sarah,
- 30:32Speaker 2: fish finding sonar, Omar and John without an answer. Nate
- 30:37Speaker 2: and Brody say, forward facing sonar. They got it, the
- 30:41Speaker 2: correct answer, y, forward facing sonar.
- 30:45Speaker 7: That's almost as cheating as dragging your flies around.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Yep, exactly.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Forward facing sonar is unique because it provides a live,
- 30:54Speaker 2: real time look at what's happening underwater. It's legality varies
- 30:59Speaker 2: by tournament. The National Professional Fishing League has banned the technology.
- 31:04Speaker 2: The Bass Elite series flips a coin to determine which
- 31:07Speaker 2: events will allow it in which will not. Major League
- 31:10Speaker 2: Fishing lets anglers use it once a day during a
- 31:13Speaker 2: selected time slot. All right, Phil, scoreboard update, two questions
- 31:17Speaker 2: to go, Damn, He's got.
- 31:20Speaker 11: Things a change a little bit around here. Omar's got
- 31:23Speaker 11: two now. John's still sitting there sitting pretty with three.
- 31:26Speaker 11: Corey's got five now, Sarah and Nate are tied up
- 31:29Speaker 11: with six, and Brody has pulled ahead.
- 31:32Speaker 1: He's two points ahead, actually with eight.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Brody can get question nine right, he'll wrapped up the victory.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Oh see if you can get the perfect game.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Oh, Mark, you came in real hot the first time
- 31:42Speaker 1: you're on here. I don't know what happened. Man's resting
- 31:44Speaker 1: now a couple of weeks.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Question nine. The topic is conservation. About half of North
- 31:50Speaker 2: America's two hundred and fifty native orchid species are found
- 31:55Speaker 2: in this state. Brody and Nate rest went over whiteboards
- 32:01Speaker 2: over there, so you can write their answer quicker. About
- 32:03Speaker 2: half of North America's two hundred and fifty native orchid
- 32:07Speaker 2: species are found in this state.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Interesting, that'd be about one hundred.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Does that help you?
- 32:18Speaker 1: It helps?
- 32:18Speaker 2: Sitting over here so I can stare it. If Brody
- 32:20Speaker 2: gets this wrong, but Sarah or Nate get it right,
- 32:24Speaker 2: we'll still have a ball game going into number ten.
- 32:27Speaker 8: Oh, I feel like we should combine forces because I'm
- 32:31Speaker 8: fifty to fifty.
- 32:31Speaker 2: On this MM. Yeah, if you guys can take to
- 32:34Speaker 2: take states, that would help your odds. About half of
- 32:40Speaker 2: North America's two hundred and fifty native orchid species are
- 32:43Speaker 2: found in this state. Hold on, Brody, how many states
- 32:49Speaker 2: do you have a narrow down to?
- 32:51Speaker 6: I had three, but really like I'm just going okay,
- 32:56Speaker 6: not really, don't know, don't know, not feeling great.
- 33:00Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, John doing some writing.
- 33:06Speaker 11: Brody's hot streak over the last few months has seemed
- 33:09Speaker 11: exceptionally hot.
- 33:11Speaker 2: He's been very good, and we haven't gone to overtime
- 33:14Speaker 2: I think in months now, and that speaks to the
- 33:16Speaker 2: dominance of often Brody sometimes Randall usually not dominant. At
- 33:23Speaker 2: the same time, Do you guys have the same answer?
- 33:27Speaker 5: No, it's cheating, Sarah.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Are you ready go ahead and reveal your answers? Corey
- 33:33Speaker 2: says Hawaii, Sarah Georgia, Omar Washington, John Florida, Nate Florida,
- 33:42Speaker 2: Brody Florida. The correct answer is Florida, giving Brody the victory,
- 33:50Speaker 2: But we still have one question to go. We'll see
- 33:52Speaker 2: if he can get the perfect game. South Florida's warm, wet,
- 33:55Speaker 2: and humid climate makes it the continent's most orchid rich place.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Half of the state's orchids are considered endangered, largely due
- 34:03Speaker 2: to habitat destruction. Florida's most famous species is the ghost orchid,
- 34:08Speaker 2: of which there are about one thousand left in the state.
- 34:11Speaker 2: It's believed that their only pollinator is the sphinx moth.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Here's a picture of a ghost. People go travel there
- 34:19Speaker 2: from far away to get a glimpse of one of those.
- 34:21Speaker 2: They only bloom for like a week.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You got that on your list of curiosities.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I mean, I would love to, but I don't think
- 34:26Speaker 2: it's gonna I can't plan a whole trip to the
- 34:28Speaker 2: Everglades just to you know, be there for the one
- 34:31Speaker 2: week when these things are open.
- 34:32Speaker 8: Is that a group of people like birders, is their
- 34:34Speaker 8: flowers gotta be?
- 34:36Speaker 2: I think orchids specifically have a very religious fault.
- 34:40Speaker 1: What do they call themselves?
- 34:41Speaker 2: I don't know what that person would knights. Here's a
- 34:44Speaker 2: correct answer. Review so far. One was Oklahoma two Dead Drift,
- 34:48Speaker 2: three Choke Cherry four Hydrologist five, Big Agnes six Britney seven,
- 34:55Speaker 2: River of No Return eight, Forward Facing Sonar nine Florida
- 35:01Speaker 2: phil scoreboard update.
- 35:02Speaker 11: As he already said, Brody has secured the bag, but
- 35:06Speaker 11: Nate is two points ahead with seven. Question excuse me?
- 35:10Speaker 2: Question ten. The topic is public lands, and if Brody
- 35:14Speaker 2: can get this right, Media will double that donation two
- 35:17Speaker 2: one thousand dollars.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Well heads together.
- 35:19Speaker 2: This is our lesser question of the week, which was
- 35:21Speaker 2: won by Jim Natole for sending this great question. Jim
- 35:24Speaker 2: is going to get a one hundred and fifty dollars
- 35:26Speaker 2: First Light gift card. If you want a chance to
- 35:28Speaker 2: win the listener Question of the Week, then send your
- 35:30Speaker 2: question to Trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 35:33Speaker 7: Right.
- 35:33Speaker 2: The topic is public lands. This president had a tunnel
- 35:37Speaker 2: system constructed in nineteen thirty five at New York's Whiteface
- 35:41Speaker 2: Mountain so that those in wheelchairs could reach the summit.
- 35:48Speaker 2: This president had a tunnel system constructed in nineteen thirty
- 35:52Speaker 2: five at New York's Whiteface Mountain so that those in
- 35:56Speaker 2: wheelchairs could reach the summit. Brody, do you have this one.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Right, pretty sure?
- 36:03Speaker 6: Okay, I feel like that there's a big clue in
- 36:08Speaker 6: this guy.
- 36:13Speaker 2: He voted for him, yep twice actually just before.
- 36:18Speaker 6: Talking about this ageism stuff before in here. Maybe you
- 36:21Speaker 6: weren't present, but you know there's an HR department upstairs.
- 36:25Speaker 1: We're real.
- 36:27Speaker 2: This president had a tunnel system constructed in nineteen thirty
- 36:31Speaker 2: five at New York's White Face Mountain so that those
- 36:34Speaker 2: in wheelchairs could reach the summit. Is everybody ready, go
- 36:39Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Corey saying FDR.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Sarah FDR, Omar says, Hoover, John says LBJ. Nate and
- 36:50Speaker 2: Brody say FDR. The correct answer is Franklin D. Roosevelt
- 36:55Speaker 2: fd R. Face. That means you got that one right,
- 37:02Speaker 2: giving him the perfect game. Well done, Brody, Thank you,
- 37:06Speaker 2: Thank you. FDR was the thirty second president, serving from
- 37:10Speaker 2: nineteen thirty three to nineteen forty five. He caught polio
- 37:14Speaker 2: in nineteen twenty one at the age of thirty nine,
- 37:17Speaker 2: which paralyzed his legs and put him in a wheelchair.
- 37:19Speaker 2: In his thirty years president, he mandated the construction of
- 37:23Speaker 2: an in mountain elevator system and pedestrian tunnel at White
- 37:26Speaker 2: Face Mountain, one of the tallest mountains in the Adirondecks.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Now visitors with mobility issues can reach the summit via
- 37:33Speaker 2: four hundred foot tunnel and three hundred foot elevator.
- 37:37Speaker 4: It's pretty nice because hiking up White Face Mountain is
