- 0:11Hello friends. It is Sean here and it is Friday
- 0:17the 28th. Happy Friday to you my friend.
- 0:20You have done it again. You're so clever.
- 0:22You made it all the way through another week and here we are.
- 0:26Ready to read a Psalm together to usher in the end of the week?
- 0:30And welcome the weekend. And if you are a little bit
- 0:33late, this is your lucky day. Not late as in you're running
- 0:36late for work and you're wondering whether you should
- 0:38speed or not. But if you are a bit late and
- 0:41you are not listening to this on Friday but on Sunday the 30th,
- 0:45well, bully for you. You are bang on the money
- 0:48because today is actually the International Day of the
- 0:51podcast. But if you're listening on
- 0:53Friday, find another favorite podcast of yours and listen to
- 0:55it on Sunday because, well. Let's just reflect for a moment
- 0:59on how cool podcasts are. Here I am in my little corner,
- 1:04reading my Bible quietly in a time that I can, And then you at
- 1:09a time that works for you. Pick up your little device,
- 1:12press play. And there I am reading this to
- 1:16you in a way that works for you, in a place that works for, I
- 1:19don't know where you are. You might be.
- 1:21Lying in a hot bath, you might be running on a treadmill.
- 1:24You might be out in the garden, lying in bed in the car.
- 1:28I don't know where you are, but I'm so glad that you are where
- 1:31you are listening to the Bible, because that is the beauty of
- 1:35podcasting and what a glorious thing it is.
- 1:38And I will stop ranting. I'm a fan, and I'm so glad that
- 1:42you've joined me so that we can read God's Word together.
- 1:46And today we read a Psalm. This is a Psalm for the choir
- 1:50director, a Psalm of the descendants of Cora, to be
- 1:54accompanied by a stringed instrument.
- 1:56This is Psalm 84. How lovely is your dwelling
- 2:09place, oh Lord of Heaven's armies.
- 2:12I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the course of
- 2:17the Lord with my whole being, body, and soul.
- 2:21I will shout joyfully to the living God.
- 2:25Even the Sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest
- 2:30and raises her young at a place near your altar.
- 2:34Oh Lord of heavens, armies, my king and my God, what joy for
- 2:40those who can live in your house, always singing your
- 2:43praises. What joy for those whose
- 2:46strength comes from the Lord who have set their minds on a
- 2:50pilgrimage to Jerusalem? When they walk through the
- 2:54valley of weeping, it will become a place of refreshing
- 2:57springs. The autumn rains will clothe it
- 3:01with blessings. They will continue to grow
- 3:04stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.
- 3:09Oh Lord, God of Heaven's armies, hear my prayer.
- 3:14Listen, oh God of Jacob. Oh God, look with favor upon the
- 3:19King our shield. Show favor to the one you have
- 3:22anointed. A single day in your courts is
- 3:27better than 1000 years anywhere else.
- 3:31I would rather be a gatekeeper in the House of my God than live
- 3:35the good life in the homes of the wicked, for the Lord God is
- 3:40our son and our shield. He gives us grace and glory.
- 3:45The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is
- 3:49right. O Lord of Heaven's armies, what
- 3:53joy for those who trust in you. You certainly are a God worth
- 4:09praising, and we do. We praise you for in the same
- 4:13moment you are the mighty God of heaven's armies, and the God who
- 4:21cares for the Sparrow and the Swallow who build their nest.
- 4:25You are enormous, bigger than the greatest stage of theater
- 4:29that we can possibly imagine. And so small and intimate that
- 4:34you would care for the smallest things.
- 4:39And we are some of those little things that you care about.
- 4:42And we thank you. We thank you for your love, your
- 4:46care and your attention. And we pray that as we go about
- 4:51our days today, that you would fill us with your love and your
- 4:57grace and your peace. So that we can be beacons
- 5:03shining your presence in this broken world around us.
- 5:09We just lift you up our mighty God and we hold you close.
- 5:14Our God of the intimate, and we praise you in the name of Jesus.
- 5:19Amen.
