- 0:04Hi, I'm Jacob Allen. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:07slippery. Slope, so serious question, does
- 0:10anyone mind if I cancel a group cancel?
- 0:13Someone cancel them on the internet serious question
- 0:17because, you know, people always trying to cancel me or give
- 0:20taking on BET. Something argue have a goal of
- 0:23me ever dig at me about something and I'm reading this
- 0:26story, I'm thinking this is ridiculous.
- 0:28The headline is says that A GPS blast out of control
- 0:32pharmacists, I'll say straight up before we get into it I'm on
- 0:37the side of the GPS here. General Practitioners, the
- 0:40doctors, I think the pharmacist are out of control go through
- 0:44this article. It says a war of words has
- 0:46erupted between the peak bodies for general practitioners and
- 0:51Community Pharmacy, owners with one side accused of whipping up
- 0:56a media frenzy after they labeled the out of the other.
- 1:00Out of control. The confrontation was sparked by
- 1:03reporting of the speech given by the pharmacy.
- 1:06Guild, president Trent to me who, allegedly labeled GPS twits
- 1:13who had their sector to become commercialized is the funny that
- 1:18the pharmacy person. Spokesperson is labeling another
- 1:22section commercialized. I mean the whole idea of anyway
- 1:26gay ignorant. So in his speech to students in
- 1:29Canberra Professor to me because we all know if your professor,
- 1:33you're very wise pushed for pharmacists, to be given greater
- 1:37powers to prescribe medications. He goes on to say, we do not
- 1:43support at the pharmacy Guild of Australia.
- 1:46Being unable to only prescribe. If someone else is looking over,
- 1:51my shoulder Professor to me said, according to reporting in
- 1:55the Australian Journal of Pharmacy, you don't see a
- 1:58plumber needing. Look over the shoulder of an
- 2:01electrician before they put in your air conditioner.
- 2:06Listen. I don't, I don't think he's an
- 2:09LG makes a lot of sense. Farm, electricians and plumbers
- 2:14have completely different roles and yeah.
- 2:16Okay. You don't see them looking over
- 2:18each other shoulders because they have a different role and
- 2:21they understand what their role is.
- 2:23That's why they both stay in their Lane plumber is not an
- 2:29Attrition you deal with water pipes, okay?
- 2:33Sewerage liquids. Obviously, you're not an
- 2:37electrician. Also, vice versa electrician is
- 2:40not a plumber. They both stay in their lanes
- 2:43because they understand what their role is.
- 2:46He went on to explain the benefits of pharmacist, being
- 2:49able to prescribe dispense, administer and review
- 2:52medications so quick question. Do you really want a pharmacist,
- 2:56a pharmacist, not a, doctor or pharmacist?
- 3:00Wanting a prescriptions. Say it may depend on your own
- 3:04mindset and where you are with your medical, you know, with
- 3:08your medical practitioner, what kind of oversight you really
- 3:10want? A lot of people would like it
- 3:13just to be overseen by a pharmacist.
- 3:15Someone who doesn't ask too many questions, let's not get into
- 3:17too much detail. Anyway, goes on the president of
- 3:21the royal Australian College of general practitioners said the
- 3:25speech was nothing short of astonishing.
- 3:28The pharmacy Guild is out of Control dr.
- 3:31Nicole Higgins said in the statement, she said this, the
- 3:34speech should send a shiver down the spines of politicians
- 3:38everywhere. The language used the Brazen
- 3:41way. He addresses very serious,
- 3:42health care issues and the underlying arrogance and forming
- 3:48this speech demonstrates that the pharmacy Guild should be
- 3:52approached wearily Professor to me, discussed issues facing the
- 3:57entire health system which he Orderly described as stuffed in
- 4:02Queensland. Pharmacists are allowed to
- 4:05refill and prescribe certain medications, and similar Pilots
- 4:10are being rolled out in Victoria and New South Wales.
- 4:13Partly. As a way to reduce pressure on
- 4:15GPS on GB clinics the dr. Higgins said the Band-Aid
- 4:20solution such as extending prescribing Powers would not fix
- 4:24the GP crisis part of the skill, general practice of general
- 4:29practice. It is knowing when not to
- 4:31prescribe dr. Higgins said, the pharmacy?
- 4:34Guild seems to think that everything can be fixed with a
- 4:37drug pharmacist. Just don't have the expertise
- 4:42and training to perform the function of prescribing
- 4:45medications. That is a job that should be
- 4:47left to Medical practitioners. The pharmacy, Guild, hit back
- 4:52because you know, it's a boxing match.
- 4:54Apparently saying that Professor Guild stood by his the speech
- 4:59and wood. Always speak out in the best
- 5:01interests of patients, while promoting safe, evidence-based
- 5:05Healthcare, it is disappointing. But unsurprising, that the GP
- 5:10group has repurposed Professor to his comments to whip up a
- 5:14Medi media frenzy a spokesperson said in a statement.
- 5:19So all I've got to say, this is the whole reason why I am
- 5:22canceling Professor to me and the pharmaceutical Guild of
- 5:27Australia. Whatever ik pharmacist in
- 5:29General for one. I've been involved, had doctors.
- 5:33You know, you get a hold of a good doctor, they will give you
- 5:37advice and a good doctor or say, Hey, you can take this
- 5:40medication or perhaps we can look at it.
- 5:44You know, you may need more natural natural ways of fighting
- 5:50whatever it is, that you're trying to that.
- 5:52You're looking for assistance in.
- 5:54Okay. Look for instance, if you maybe
- 5:57have some slight blood Shh issues with blood pressure or
- 6:02maybe your cholesterol is getting up, starting to get a
- 6:05little higher. I have had a doctor say hey,
- 6:07your cholesterol is this meat. Hi, you can't get on medication,
- 6:10jump on medication straight away, or we could look at maybe
- 6:13dies, maybe up in your exercise with the more we can look at
- 6:17other ways to combat this issue. They don't just jump straight
- 6:21onto medication medical and this is the issue with pharmacists
- 6:27pharmacists by the very name, their very nature Nature is will
- 6:30sell you Pharmaceuticals. They work with a pharmacy
- 6:35pharmaceutical industry. They are always going to sell
- 6:38you a product. That's the difference between a
- 6:42GP and a pharmacist. The GP is getting paid to give
- 6:46you knowledge his understanding of things.
- 6:49Okay. What he has studied, he is not
- 6:51just going to prescribe you a medication.
- 6:55He's not getting he's not getting paid to just prescribe
- 6:58medication. Pharmacist they are all about
- 7:02selling your product. Hopefully, you find yourself a
- 7:05good doctor who will have your best interests at heart and not
- 7:09just trying to sell you a product.
- 7:11So there you go. I'm canceling pharmacist
- 7:14everywhere in Australia. You're all just out to make
- 7:17money. Let's be real.
- 7:18You have to sell a product. Don't pretend you're not.
- 7:23That's my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 7:26slippery slope.
