- 1:00Speaker 1: radio preservation. The reason that we have so many great programs,
- 1:05Speaker 1: tens of thousands of radio programs that we can listen
- 1:10Speaker 1: to is because of dedicated hobbyists and volunteers who have
- 1:15Speaker 1: collected collated research old time radio programs. The Old Time
- 1:20Speaker 1: Radio Researchers Group is one of the premier organizations handling
- 1:25Speaker 1: this and they need volunteers people to help out with
- 1:29Speaker 1: listening to programs for potential certification. They release sets of
- 1:35Speaker 1: programs to make it easy for easier for people to
- 1:38Speaker 1: sort through the mass. They of just wide variety of
- 1:41Speaker 1: different programs out there. People to record voiceovers, people to
- 1:46Speaker 1: write and to edit for their online encyclopedia as well
- 1:50Speaker 1: as their magazine and it really is a great organization
- 1:55Speaker 1: and for us to continue to have more programs to enjoy,
- 2:00Speaker 1: to preserve what we already have. With a lot of
- 2:03Speaker 1: the people who have been in this for a very
- 2:06Speaker 1: long time growing older and not as good as health,
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's going to be important to have new volunteers. So
- 2:12Speaker 1: if this is something you'd be interested in helping me
- 2:14Speaker 1: old time radio researchers with email me at Box thirteen
- 2:18Speaker 1: at Great Detectives dot net. Just putt r R volunteer
- 2:22Speaker 1: in the subject and I will forward it along to
- 2:25Speaker 1: the appropriate person. And now it is time for today's
- 2:28Speaker 1: episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. The original air date
- 2:33Speaker 1: of this program is Maybe eighteenth, nineteen fifty eight, and
- 2:37Speaker 1: the title is The Ghost to Ghost Matter.
- 2:41Speaker 2: The time now for Johnny Dollar.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Hi, Johnny International Press Service.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Oh holy small guard, what are you doing over this
- 2:56Speaker 2: hour of the morning.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I'm on the night desk and I'm sorry to have
- 2:59Speaker 4: to wake you up. Why listen, I just got a call,
- 3:02Speaker 4: a real franny one from a.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Guy who insisted on having your phone number.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Well did you give it to him?
- 3:07Speaker 4: He said, he's an insurance man. That was about some
- 3:09Speaker 4: insurance matter. So yes, I did.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Oh, why did he call you?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it was me too, but.
- 3:15Speaker 4: He was so excited to him, what is it, Franny, Well,
- 3:18Speaker 4: he probably called the first person he could think of,
- 3:20Speaker 4: and he said it was a big emergency.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Oh did he give you any details?
- 3:24Speaker 5: No?
- 3:24Speaker 3: And Johnny, it's aroused my curiosity. Let me know what
- 3:27Speaker 3: it's all about.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Will you promise? Okay, I promise. Bob Bailey and the
- 3:41Speaker 2: Exciting Adventures of the Man with the action pacted expensed
- 3:44Speaker 2: out America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator, Truly Johnny Dollar, and
- 3:55Speaker 2: now act one of yours, Truly Johnny Dollar. Expense account
- 4:13Speaker 2: submitted by a special investigator, Johnny Dollar, the State Unity
- 4:16Speaker 2: Life Insurance Company Home Office, Hartford, Connecticut. Following is an
- 4:20Speaker 2: account of expenses incurred during my investigation of the Ghost
- 4:23Speaker 2: to Ghost matter. I'd no sooner rolled over in the
- 4:30Speaker 2: hope of getting back asleep when the phone beside my
- 4:32Speaker 2: bed started jangling again. Oh nuts, Johnny Dollar, this is
- 4:39Speaker 2: oscar extremely mister Dollar trimely.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I represent State Unity Life here in Lake City.
- 4:44Speaker 6: New Jersey.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Oh look, are you the man who called Art Price
- 4:47Speaker 2: over an international press service.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I did get your phone number right, and
- 4:51Speaker 4: you he'd have it.
- 4:52Speaker 3: You're being such your famous investigator at all that.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well you could also have got it from Universal
- 4:56Speaker 2: Adjustment Bureau, your insurance directory, the long distance operator.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I guess I've been so upset over this whole thing
- 5:01Speaker 4: that it never occurred to me.
- 5:02Speaker 3: But can you come down here to Lake City, mister
- 5:05Speaker 3: Dollar right away?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Oh, it depends. What's this all about Ian McAndrews. I andrews.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Oh, don't you know he's the man who founded Lake City.
- 5:13Speaker 2: So what's happened to him?
- 5:15Speaker 3: He did, mister Dollar, or rather he isn't.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Well, that is to say, he died, mister Dollar, about
- 5:21Speaker 4: five years ago, and well, in due time, of course,
- 5:25Speaker 4: we paid off the claim on his life insurance policy
- 5:28Speaker 4: fifty five thousand dollars.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Everything in order and perfectly all right.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Well but now, oh, oh no, mister Dollar, you just
- 5:36Speaker 4: won't believe it unless you come here and see for yourself.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Oh won't believe what.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Ian mcandrew's has come back.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Huh, either he.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Or his his ghost has come back here.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Oh no, no.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It's true. It's absolutely true, sir.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Ian McAndrews is haunting Lake City, So please come as.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Quickly as you can.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I uh about it?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Is that the best answer you can give me?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm afraid so until I see how things line
- 6:05Speaker 2: up for me these next couple of days, goodbye, mister Trimley.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Think about it. I can hardly wait to grab a train.
- 6:13Speaker 2: But I didn't want to ask a Trimley to know that,
- 6:15Speaker 2: because I had a strong suspicion that if you can
- 6:18Speaker 2: catch a ghost off guard, you'll be one up on him.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Expense a cont idem won the promised home called the
- 6:23Speaker 2: Art Price and International Press. Are you kidding, Johnny, No,
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm deadly serious.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Art Buttle, New Jersey.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, I'll keep in touch. Then I remembered Nancy
- 6:35Speaker 2: Nancy Turner, an old flame, or rather a young old flame.
- 6:39Speaker 2: She'd said something one time about taking up investigation of
- 6:41Speaker 2: the supernatural. So expense a cont item two another dime
- 6:45Speaker 2: for another call.
- 6:47Speaker 3: You all were asking, Johnny, you haven't called me an agent?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Wow, you know how it is. Look Nancy, did you
- 6:54Speaker 2: ever go ahead with your study of psychic investigation?
- 6:58Speaker 6: Oh?
- 6:58Speaker 4: No, Johnny, I thought, after read a couple of hundred
- 7:01Speaker 4: months of the old books.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So I gave it up.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Oh well that's too bad. Oh why well, I've got
- 7:07Speaker 2: to run over to Jersey to investigate a haunted town.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Haunted town?
- 7:11Speaker 2: How really, except that such a thing as impossible? Oh,
- 7:14Speaker 2: it is, sure, But i'd kind of thought that maybe
- 7:17Speaker 2: you were still well, I guess we better forget it.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Forget it nothing, I'm going with you.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Oh no, no, wait, I excuses.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I'll put on my face and another dress and be
- 7:26Speaker 3: waiting by.
- 7:26Speaker 2: The time you can get Yeah, but look, honey, Johnny, Okay, Nancy,
- 7:32Speaker 2: I'll pick you up. I had him three ten eighty
- 7:40Speaker 2: five taxian trained for two to New York, had him
- 7:42Speaker 2: four fifty bucks to posit on a rental car. When
- 7:44Speaker 2: we got into Grand Central Station, we crossed over into
- 7:48Speaker 2: Jersey and hit Route twenty two for Summer of Villain
- 7:50Speaker 2: Points West, and every mile of the way, Nancy chatted
- 7:53Speaker 2: away like a magpie. She kept holding some of the
- 7:56Speaker 2: stuff she had read on this subject. A lot of
- 7:59Speaker 2: authorities who decided that some of the reports on haunted
- 8:02Speaker 2: towns and houses and people things like that, had decided
- 8:05Speaker 2: there was something really supernatural about them. And you know,
- 8:09Speaker 2: after a while, I began to wonder. Yep, I began
- 8:13Speaker 2: to wonder. Fact two of yours truly Johnny Dollar in.
- 8:31Speaker 6: A moment, And now for another episode in the life
- 8:35Speaker 6: of Sergeant Donald Bellweather.
- 8:37Speaker 7: My husband, Donald, Donald.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm not here on the back porch, Honey.
- 8:52Speaker 3: There you are, Honey.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Where on earth did you choose a time like this
- 8:55Speaker 6: to clean your honey rifle? We're doing the jamisons at seven.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm ready, Honey.
- 9:00Speaker 8: I have to do is wash my hands. I'll finish
- 9:02Speaker 8: this tomorrow. Be with you in the jippy.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Donald, come back here.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I know what the matter.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Are you going to leave this hunting rifle right out
- 9:09Speaker 6: here in plain sight?
- 9:10Speaker 8: Nobody's gonna bother it. The kids are asleep and will
- 9:13Speaker 8: be gone. I don't think our babysit it will bother anything.
- 9:16Speaker 2: She's got her homework to do.
- 9:17Speaker 6: Those are famous last words if I ever heard him. Donald,
- 9:20Speaker 6: don't you realize that accidental death by firearms rank second
- 9:24Speaker 6: only to death from full fire and poison?
- 9:27Speaker 2: But the kids are in bed, sure they are.
- 9:30Speaker 6: But what if our six year old Marshall Dyllain should
- 9:32Speaker 6: wander out to the kitchen for a drink of water.
- 9:34Speaker 6: You know he'd love to play with his gun. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 6: I suppose, Well, please put it away under lock and key. Yes, yeah, yes, right,
- 9:41Speaker 6: and for heaven sakes, take those shelves too. You know,
- 9:44Speaker 6: many accidents happen when bullets are thrown into a fire,
- 9:47Speaker 6: hit with a hammer. All things are dangerous. You want
- 9:49Speaker 6: to know that.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I know, I mean, I guess I just wasn't thinking.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Unloaded gun and ammunition lying around the house is even more.
- 9:55Speaker 7: Dangerous than itchy fingered hunters.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Statistics prove that.
- 9:58Speaker 8: Okay, there, thing is safe under lock and key.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Now you're still angry.
- 10:03Speaker 6: With me, Oh Donald, I don't want to sound like
- 10:06Speaker 6: a nagging wife, but my dear, you.
- 10:08Speaker 8: Have every right to reprimand me. Me, a non commissioned officer,
- 10:13Speaker 8: I should know better.
- 10:15Speaker 3: But that's where it goes.
- 10:17Speaker 8: We forget. That's why there are accidents in the field,
- 10:20Speaker 8: out hunting, and in the home. We all know better,
- 10:23Speaker 8: we just forget or get careless with firearms.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Well, come on along, let's get over to the jam.
- 10:28Speaker 8: Okay, now this won't happen again, believe me. You know
- 10:31Speaker 8: I wouldn't have started to clean that rifle if you
- 10:34Speaker 8: hadn't taken so long to get dressed.
- 10:36Speaker 2: But you should did a good job. You look beautiful.
- 10:41Speaker 2: That's my Donald, that's my dog and now Act two
- 10:57Speaker 2: of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar and the Ghost to Ghost
- 10:59Speaker 2: Meta Lake City, nestling among the soft roaming North Jersey Hills.
- 11:09Speaker 2: What kind of has been town? I saw the reason
- 11:12Speaker 2: for that in the abandoned mill all mc andrew's cotton Mellow,
- 11:15Speaker 2: one side of the lake, the same old story. I
- 11:17Speaker 2: guess when a town's main industry closes down, it kind
- 11:20Speaker 2: of goes to Pott. Nonetheless, it was a charming little place,
- 11:24Speaker 2: population all maybe four or five hundred. When we finally
- 11:27Speaker 2: located Oscar Ternley's insurance office, we found a bit of
- 11:30Speaker 2: a gathering there and mister Dollar, that is miss Turner
- 11:33Speaker 2: and mister Dollar. This is Charlie Reed Foster and Tony Gray.
- 11:38Speaker 2: We're sort of local businessmen's club. Johnny, you know, okay,
- 11:42Speaker 2: then let's get to the point down. Thank you, Johnny.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I thought over the phone that you were turning us down. Well,
- 11:51Speaker 2: I changed my mind. And when I thought of Nancy
- 11:54Speaker 2: and her knowledge of the supernatural good, that's what we need.
- 11:56Speaker 8: Yes, well, I am interested in the subject.
- 11:59Speaker 9: We're all a little worried about it.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Tony isn't kidding.
- 12:02Speaker 9: I think we're a pretty level headed bunch, But well,
- 12:04Speaker 9: this thing has us scared.
- 12:06Speaker 2: That's putting it in my little If it really is
- 12:08Speaker 2: his ghost that's playing, you don't seriously believe in ghosts.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I'll tell you this I never did before. But now,
- 12:15Speaker 2: well wait and you'll see. Gee, Johnny, Well suppose you
- 12:19Speaker 2: tell me what's going on? Well no, no, no, no, Johnny,
- 12:23Speaker 2: you'll have to see for yourself. And here, yes, Charlie,
- 12:26Speaker 2: and here, and that means waiting until midnight. Midnight, sure,
- 12:30Speaker 2: mister Donald, Well just why bill you you'll see? Yes,
- 12:33Speaker 2: And meantime you can look around, say, aren't you quite
- 12:36Speaker 2: a fisherman, Johnny? Rather fish than eight? But now look
- 12:38Speaker 2: at you. I'll have to fish two. The like's full
- 12:40Speaker 2: of nice bass. Charlie, you can fix him up with
- 12:43Speaker 2: a boat, Cancher.
- 12:43Speaker 8: Sure can't.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yes, But if I'm going to Ny, you arrange for
- 12:46Speaker 2: a place for miss Turner to stay overnight. Be glad
- 12:48Speaker 2: to Well, now, Johnny, you will stay at my home?
- 12:50Speaker 10: All right?
- 12:51Speaker 2: Fine, but now tell me no, I want you to
- 12:53Speaker 2: see for yourself at midnight. Meantime, good fishing. Right, I've
- 12:58Speaker 2: got to get back the shot for missus. Vic starts
- 13:00Speaker 2: screaming about her high fire. See you later.
- 13:03Speaker 9: Yeah, and I'll come back to the office and the
- 13:04Speaker 9: rain somewhere for miss Turner to stay.
- 13:06Speaker 2: See you later, see you Tony.
- 13:08Speaker 8: Now, if you folks will come over to the print
- 13:09Speaker 8: shop with me, we will pick up the keys to
- 13:11Speaker 8: my boat and some tackle, and you can be on
- 13:12Speaker 8: your way.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Look, can't you at least give me some idea? Nope,
- 13:16Speaker 2: not a thing until midnight. Oh, and we'll all have
- 13:19Speaker 2: dinner together at the hotel. Mister Turnley, you ready a Turner, Johnny,
- 13:23Speaker 2: you fellas are the boss. I guess fishing, Nancy, I'd
- 13:26Speaker 2: love it. I'll even give you some of the fast
- 13:29Speaker 2: strike hooks I use. Okay, then let's go. There was
- 13:34Speaker 2: something slightly schooly about the whole thing. And I don't
- 13:38Speaker 2: mean just to talk about ghosts. But when I go
- 13:41Speaker 2: fishing and a company expense, well who's to complain? So
- 13:44Speaker 2: Nancy and I spent the rest of the day on
- 13:45Speaker 2: the lake. Matter of fact, she caught the big one.
- 13:48Speaker 2: By dinner time we were starved. And the little hotel
- 13:50Speaker 2: serves not only excellent cocktails, but a regular banquet completely champagne.
- 13:55Speaker 2: You enjoying it, Miss Turner? M I love it?
- 13:57Speaker 6: Only why don't you call me Nancy?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Sure, why not, Charlie, I'll tell you why, Tony, you
- 14:02Speaker 2: stay out of this trimley. About this champagne you know
- 14:07Speaker 2: comes from the old Leland Stanford venue. Oh yes, and
- 14:10Speaker 2: it's fine, I know, but it's time we talk about
- 14:13Speaker 2: your goats here.
- 14:14Speaker 5: You land any big ones out on the lakes?
- 14:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Belle, Nancy got a four pounder. But now listen,
- 14:18Speaker 2: wi you another thing about this fine calisory?
- 14:20Speaker 8: Didn't I see you navigating the boat and I got
- 14:23Speaker 8: one last year?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Wait, six, fellow fellows, go out over here?
- 14:27Speaker 3: Do you like to time?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Fellas?
- 14:29Speaker 4: Please?
- 14:29Speaker 2: Will you tell me a little bit about all I
- 14:31Speaker 2: want to know? So? I got nowhere. But then finally,
- 14:41Speaker 2: after a lot more food and wine and chatter, we
- 14:43Speaker 2: drove off in Tony's car.
- 14:46Speaker 9: I'm stopping here in the middle of town, Johnny, because
- 14:48Speaker 9: it's the best place to be when things start popping, Like.
- 14:50Speaker 2: What hey, one, are you fellas going to stop this
- 14:53Speaker 2: run around and start making sense? You'll see, you see,
- 14:56Speaker 2: I'm all excited.
- 14:57Speaker 8: Look, Johnny, Charlie, you see the old power clock almost midnight?
- 15:02Speaker 8: So what about that old mcandrew's passed away at the
- 15:04Speaker 8: stroke of midnight, Johnny, personally, I think that has something
- 15:06Speaker 8: to do with this.
- 15:07Speaker 2: You still haven't told me with what Wait, listen, there
- 15:11Speaker 2: goes the tower clock.
- 15:13Speaker 8: Oh midnight, countum, Johnny?
- 15:16Speaker 6: That was four?
- 15:18Speaker 9: Fine, And Johnny, see how all the lights are flickering
- 15:21Speaker 9: along the streets.
- 15:22Speaker 2: That happens every night and no reason for us. Look
- 15:26Speaker 2: that I'm.
- 15:28Speaker 10: Brilliant for that cow me.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Out of that talk tower.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I see him, but I don't what under
- 15:37Speaker 2: the sun is that? That's the ghost wailing? Oh now,
- 15:41Speaker 2: wait on that cream fills the air comes from everywhere.
- 15:44Speaker 6: It's a horrible sound.
- 15:46Speaker 8: Johnny, crazy, honey, No, listen, didn't you hear that clock
- 15:50Speaker 8: struck thirteen?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yes, Johnny, I yes, he asked me.
- 15:55Speaker 8: The devil's in old mcandrew's ghost. That's why it comes
- 15:58Speaker 8: out of his house every night.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Out of his house, right, Johnny? And wait, do you
- 16:01Speaker 2: see what's there? Right? Act three of yours? Truly, Johnny
- 16:17Speaker 2: Dollar in a moment.
- 16:19Speaker 10: Do you know who said they that can give up
- 16:23Speaker 10: essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither
- 16:28Speaker 10: liberty nor safety. Those words were written by Benjamin Franklin
- 16:33Speaker 10: in the year seventeen fifty nine, Even before the United
- 16:37Speaker 10: States of America had come into being, Franklin realized that
- 16:41Speaker 10: the path toward freedom was a difficult one. He knew
- 16:44Speaker 10: that there would be many people who would prefer easier
- 16:46Speaker 10: paths to the difficult one that led toward freedom. These people,
- 16:50Speaker 10: he felt, did not deserve to enjoy freedom. Just as
- 16:54Speaker 10: there were in ben Franklin's time, there are people today
- 16:57Speaker 10: who would choose what looks like the safe and easy
- 17:00Speaker 10: way to protect American freedom. They would be willing to
- 17:03Speaker 10: sacrifice some of their liberties in order to be comfortable.
- 17:07Speaker 10: But the surrender of a little freedom soon leads to
- 17:10Speaker 10: the surrender.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Of all freedom.
- 17:13Speaker 10: Liberty can be protected only by constant vigilance and the
- 17:17Speaker 10: willingness to fight to protect it if necessary.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Remember the words.
- 17:22Speaker 10: Of Benjamin Franklin, they are part of your American heritage.
- 17:27Speaker 10: Temporary safety must never be purchased at the price of liberty.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And now act free of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar and
- 17:36Speaker 2: the ghost to ghost matter is the front door of
- 17:50Speaker 2: this old house always left wide open. Got Johnny, sure
- 17:53Speaker 2: you want to go in? Sure? Come along, Nancy.
- 17:58Speaker 7: Dream coming somebody there was more light around now.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Oh that's nice. Slam right in our faces. I knew
- 18:05Speaker 2: it on lock though I meant had that flashlight. Tohnny here,
- 18:11Speaker 2: m hm, no sign of wires, the strings on it.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Come on, okay, come on fellas now, Johnny, because you
- 18:21Speaker 2: can see there's just one big room downstairs here, Johnny, easy, Nancy,
- 18:26Speaker 2: don't you see? I admit this is all pretty strange.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But a ghost what else? We've been over this house
- 18:31Speaker 2: with a fine tooth comb. Listen, you hear that somebody,
- 18:38Speaker 2: somebody's walking on the ceiling.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Looking.
- 18:45Speaker 9: That's the kind of stuff you hear older guys, noisy spirits.
- 18:47Speaker 2: You can hear them, but you can't see him, don't
- 18:49Speaker 2: you see, Johnny? It can't be anything normal? Natural? Is
- 18:57Speaker 2: that the end?
- 18:58Speaker 9: The old ghost has a regular See here, those shutters banging.
- 19:02Speaker 2: There's no wind out there.
- 19:04Speaker 6: Why why didn't you tell me it'd be like this, Johnny.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Let's lock hair lights moving around somewhere outside. You can
- 19:13Speaker 2: see the reflection in the trees. They're green ghost lights.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Johnny. Look, there's a rocking chair.
- 19:30Speaker 9: It's rocking in front of the window where old McAndrews
- 19:34Speaker 9: used to sit and look out on the town before
- 19:36Speaker 9: he died.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Give me the flashlight up here. Mm hmm. No strings
- 19:44Speaker 2: are wires on us either. Well, well, that's the end
- 19:54Speaker 2: of it. The same crazy routine every night. It's the
- 19:59Speaker 2: ghost of Ian mcandrew's. That's all there is to it. Well,
- 20:03Speaker 2: from what your fellows have shown me the night, it
- 20:04Speaker 2: kind of looks that way it is, Johnny, But tomorrow
- 20:07Speaker 2: I want to investigate these things in broad daylight. I
- 20:12Speaker 2: investigated all right, the old house, the clock tower, everything
- 20:15Speaker 2: I could find, and thanks to the help of the boys,
- 20:17Speaker 2: we covered a lot of ground. Results nothing. Meantime, I
- 20:22Speaker 2: noticed that the town, a sleepy little town of Lake City,
- 20:24Speaker 2: was being mob people from all over streets jam with cars.
- 20:28Speaker 2: And as we sat down at lunch in the hotel,
- 20:30Speaker 2: miss waitress, will you please bring me another couple? Oh dear,
- 20:35Speaker 2: she didn't hear me. Wait, they all comes. Yeah. Business
- 20:38Speaker 2: has certainly picked up around here, he is. I noticed
- 20:41Speaker 2: that any idea? Why Bill not? The least I wonder
- 20:45Speaker 2: if Tony couldn't be with us for lunch. And Charlie
- 20:47Speaker 2: is at his print chap getting out of extra Hey,
- 20:50Speaker 2: excuse me, excuse me, aren't you Johnny Donald the investigator?
- 20:53Speaker 2: That's right, man, Can I you and you. I'll just
- 20:55Speaker 2: let me get a picture on a wait, hold it,
- 20:57Speaker 2: hold it, hold it? Okay, Johnny, thanks a lot. Hey
- 21:02Speaker 2: that photographers from one of the New York papers.
- 21:05Speaker 5: O kidding?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Really listen if our price an international press came out
- 21:09Speaker 2: the word about this ghost story. Oh now, Johnny, Okay, Nancy,
- 21:14Speaker 2: you all finished? And Oscar Bill, we're gonna leave the
- 21:17Speaker 2: check with you and pull out. You mean leave town? Yep,
- 21:21Speaker 2: going back to heart, Johnny. I've investigated, I've come up
- 21:23Speaker 2: with nothing, so there's no point in staying around any longer. Oh, Johnny,
- 21:27Speaker 2: thanks a lot Fellas and Oscar, I'll send you my
- 21:30Speaker 2: expense account. Come on, Nancy, give up hardly? Sure, Nancy
- 21:37Speaker 2: and I hit the highway, but for only a few miles.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Then shortly after Doc we drove back and for a
- 21:42Speaker 2: couple of hours, for three or four hours. Annyhow shortly
- 21:46Speaker 2: before midnight, Nancy and I walked quietly up on the
- 21:48Speaker 2: porch of Oscar Trembley's insurance office.
- 21:50Speaker 9: You mean you didn't leave a message at my office
- 21:52Speaker 9: to be here tonight?
- 21:53Speaker 2: I certainly didn't. I found a message from Charlie.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Are you kidding? Somebody left a message in my print
- 21:59Speaker 3: chop to be here.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I want at my radio shop. Well, I, of course
- 22:04Speaker 2: they couldn't know your handwriting.
- 22:05Speaker 8: Wait a minute, there's somebody outside.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Huh, Johnny, what for good evening? Gentlemen? Why I thought
- 22:14Speaker 2: you'd left town, john That's right, I wanted you to
- 22:18Speaker 2: think so listen. The old tower clock started this strike midnight.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But yeah, that's five sick boy. As I suddenly realized
- 22:27Speaker 2: that in all my investigation this morning, I was being
- 22:30Speaker 2: handicapped by what I thought was help capping, I had
- 22:35Speaker 2: too much help. Two or three of you were with
- 22:37Speaker 2: me every second. We wanted to be sure you wouldn't overlooking.
- 22:40Speaker 2: That's right. You wanted to be sure I would overlook
- 22:43Speaker 2: a few things. That's eleven twelve, Hey, you know it
- 22:51Speaker 2: struck twelve. No ghostly whale tonight is there? I know no, fellas, no,
- 22:58Speaker 2: because the ghost is no more. You found the ghost, Johnny.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I found out that he's one of you, maybe all
- 23:05Speaker 2: of you. What do you mean alone? Without your careful guidance,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I finally located that sub seller in the old mcandrew's house.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You did, and that missed the complicated electrical stuff that
- 23:15Speaker 2: was making the weird sound effects. The rocking chair, the
- 23:18Speaker 2: banging shut is and so on. Very clever your handiwork bill. Sure, sure,
- 23:25Speaker 2: the Johnny oh fellas it was a wonderful publicity stunt,
- 23:29Speaker 2: especially after international press was notified. But you did not
- 23:33Speaker 2: only for your radio and electronics shop bill, for your
- 23:35Speaker 2: real estate business, Tony, your print shop and newspaper Charlie,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and your insurance business. Ask well now, but to the
- 23:40Speaker 2: whole town. It's gonna put Lake City on the map again,
- 23:43Speaker 2: which is to say the motive wasn't entirely selfish. No, okay, okay, man,
- 23:51Speaker 2: And because of that and then alone, I won't give
- 23:53Speaker 2: you away. Provided the ghost of Ian mcandre's never walks
- 23:59Speaker 2: the streets of Lake City again. Well, you can be
- 24:02Speaker 2: all that, Johnny down. I don't know. I suppose I
- 24:10Speaker 2: ought to really hits you over the head with this
- 24:11Speaker 2: expense account, but after all, the cause was a kind
- 24:15Speaker 2: of worthy one, so I'll be honest with it for
- 24:17Speaker 2: a change. And it was fun to have Nancy turneral

- 27:32Speaker 1: not to be an actual ghost, though I kind of
- 27:34Speaker 1: suspected that it was a hoax. The one thing, with
- 27:38Speaker 1: the way that Jack Johnstone has written a series and
- 27:42Speaker 1: the way other writers have done you couldn't exactly be sure,
- 27:46Speaker 1: though I should have suspected been a little more confident
- 27:50Speaker 1: based on the UFO episode that we weren't going to
- 27:53Speaker 1: all of a sudden have Johnny saying I can't figure
- 27:55Speaker 1: it out, must be ghosts. I love both of the
- 27:58Speaker 1: PSAs in this one. The Donald bell Weather one was
- 28:02Speaker 1: more entertaining than usual, and I also thought very informative
- 28:07Speaker 1: with some very practical gun safety tips, and of course
- 28:11Speaker 1: the Benjamin Franklin stuff just wonderful historical info. All right, well,
- 28:15Speaker 1: that will actually do it for today. Remember our listener
