- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McCusik and we have your camp notes for August 3rd, 2026 to 5th day of training camp.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: But the all important first day in pads, of course, on Saturday, a number of the veterans had off on that day, kind of prepare for this.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then Sunday was an off day for the entire team and they're back in pads today.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: hot day in the mid to high 80s the fans were back.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: They were loud and Craig Albranaz was there on the sideline watching practice with his wife and three kids.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: As a free the kids they're throwing around a football as a free that was going to go on to the practice field and somebody's going to get hurt but anyway they managed to contain it and they were obviously having fun while the
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: were making moves today.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Newsy, you may not have heard how came a energy retired either yesterday or today was on the NFL transaction report.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: And there's much more in how this impacts the Ravens offensive line depth on a podcast that will be out on Tuesday.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Take a look for that.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: That'll be the Spencer Peterson.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: more good injury news today, not they met at B.K.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: was again a uniform, he's on the field, he did calistthenics, then he observed at least the positional drills and 11 on a level.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't take part in any 11 on 11 snaps, not sure when they broke up for further sessions like during 7 on 7s.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: where exactly he was or what he was doing, but anyway, very good to see kind of a progression going on there.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: John Jenkins off the PUP in uniform, he did some stretching out there.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Players all assemble usually in the final few minutes before practice begins and some come out 15 minutes or at least some come out a couple minutes early, but pretty much particularly for a padded practice, they want to be out there pretty early.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then calisthenics is the first
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, he he lined up and he was doing some stretching on a sudden calisthenics started.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: He like bolts it off for the building and I was kind of thinking like he's allergic to calisthenics or something which is kind of comical obviously given his size and whatnot, but he was back and he was he was playing in the DL drills after that and hitting the sled pretty hard.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: So he appears to be maybe to be in a in a pretty good position physically.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: I would say relative to some other some other players.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see his direct work on the sled, but I had heard it described his kind of half speed.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it looks a little rusty and I appreciate Josh Tolantino for giving me that report.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: And he observed practice with Matt O'Beeke and Jenkins in terms of the 11 on 11s that occurred.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: So the three of them were in close proximity for that.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: One big player who's back
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: pretty quickly a desa Isaac in uniform again and was a full participant and he played he was in 11 on 11 so he played you know the same linebacker spot on on that left side of I guess it would be the second team outside linebacker group so he's he's there maybe it's a 13 even but anyway out there is a full participant and that's very good news for him but while Kona was in uniform I saw him retrieve something for another player I didn't see him
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it's coming, I'm sure we're probably sooner anyway than later, but Cone is a player definitely needs to get some preseason work in this year, build a body of work so the raves know who they have here.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Salute's two players on PUP still Travis Jones and Teddy Buchan and the only remaining as well as Cory Bullock on NFI after appendix surgery.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: So injury management to date remains excellent there've been as far as I know no new injury certainly no missed time.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: So far we did have a scary moment with a with a big collision and in a couple of equations but one in the end zone that involved three players that that could have been fairly serious but fortunately appears like everybody has walked away from it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they might be a little bit of horseshoe activity going on here.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: They've been kind of lucky so far to get through all of OTAs into this point with no significant injuries, but anyway, very good news that they have been.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: A usual cadence drills at the beginning, a two times two, both ends of the field are doing the same drills.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: The backups get more reps at it, which is important for them because they don't get nearly as many 11 on 11 reps.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: had a one and a one-a group kind of practicing together.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Pinter is still kind of getting more staffs at this point that Ethan Posick, but those two were the one-on-one-a group.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: And one important note was with Hakima Dhanaji out, the Ravens are kind of a short one lineman to field three groups, and it seemed so Roger Rosengarten had to pull double duty during that and he's a kind of play twice as many staffs as the other guys on that end of the field.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it raves up 14 linemen remaining and I think they'll end up with a 15th fairly soon.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Special teams was out and next they work on punting.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: In this case it was it was blocking get off maintaining their lanes for the punters themselves as opposed to the punt return team.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: So really the focus was on that on what do you do as a
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: with your responsibilities on the pont team and and they built up these reps as they do kind of slowly with with you know a half side rep And and what they did a lot of that they also by the way did some good field goal reps that were building up
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: the blocking scheme primary loop didn't even kick during the during the field goal reps.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: So Randy Brown watched very carefully as the linemen line up and get off a certain way.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, they use their this interlocking legs technique.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: Your your feet are a very close proximity.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: So you can't have footwork problems.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: You need to be very careful about that.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And Randy Brown can be a very close eye on things.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: He watches multiple reps from the same players from different angles to try and see it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: for blocking that you get on these half, half of a concited fact.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's some offensive linemen that are simulating how the players would be lined up opposite the line.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then they build up to a full line across, including all the offensive linemen and then two wings.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: So you have a total of seven guys on the line of scrimmage, two wings, and then the kicker and the holder, of course.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And the, the, um,
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: They all, you know, take their first step and whatnot, but then in no kicking involved in this, I find it really fascinating how they build up to these, to these reps, but it's very much one part of the time and you got to trust Anthony and Randy Brown to build these units correctly.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, I think I mentioned this, but the defensive line had sled drills, this is all second hand, but Jenkins was active on the sled, again, Campbell was half speed, and I think Madda Beak is still not working on the sled, and we've got a little bit of information on that from Jesse Mitrault get to a little bit later.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: They did the nine on nine run drills next.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now you'll notice there's sometimes they put in a coach on either side who's simulating a wide receiver, but they don't put wide receivers in for that for the nine on nine drills and they don't put in cornerbacks, but it is a heavy contact drill with the first day in pads and it was actually one of the really interesting sections to watch because you're segments because you're watching individuals go up with the full intensity that they
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: They still take care of your teammates.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's overstating it.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: But they're going at it hard.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I tried to write down some blocking notes from each play.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Rosengarten slipped off his block.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: It was on the ground on one of the early plays that Pinter was backed up.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: and knocked on the ground as Henry was stuffed for loss.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't catch the player who did that to him.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: Carson Vincent had a very nice seal on Olegiga to open up space on the left side, one of Carson's nice plays of the day.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Emery Jones, who I think a pretty good day, had a good pad level versus CJ Aquay and drove him back.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And then the two of them got in a dust stop, which really reinforces
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just how serious this business is for these two players, CJ Akoya kind of headbutted Emory with his helmet after the place really unhappy that he's, you know, make it a look bad by driving a backer or whatever else it might have been.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: He might have had his hand in a bad spot or he might have been, you know,
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: doing something that CJ found to be unnecessary in terms of that.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: But they were chippy and chippy with each other, the rest of practice, and as they didn't have to be broken up so much as a coie finally backed off.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: And when he did, Emery just clapped his hands together as if yeah, let's go again, kind of thing.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, there was more of them, and that'll come a little later.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Risengarten had also a very nice seal on Aaron Graves.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: I thought was one of the other good plays, so Risengarten won up one down in that session.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar Jackson, another very tough day, I would say for him, he didn't have any interceptions.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it was he took care of the football.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: But he had some under-throwing balls and some balls that went in a tight windows where they probably shouldn't have gone that were knocked to the ground.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so he had a lot of trouble finding wide open receivers.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: creating, you know, having play action, create space opening for him as he, as he had done good success with the first two days of camp.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: The third day had that interception by Malachi Stark, so it was a fourth-hand interception, very forgivable.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: He did it under throw ball as well, then he did never good day at Maryland either.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: had another pick by Keyon Martin, that's pretty a less serious interception, but it was on an early down, so it's serious in that sense.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then a day, today, where you're under through some balls and he didn't really have a lot of good connections down the field.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: He had one,
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: 40 yard attempt for Tez Walker who've gotten behind the defense behind Nate Wiggins on the play and had a couple of steps on him but Lamar unfortunately under through the ball very significantly Wiggins caught back up into the play much like the situation with Bateman the other day and Mac the ball free for a PD so you know unfortunate day not a not a great one for from a
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Seven on seven, Jackson on cork that long past for Tez Walker, as I mentioned earlier, Quavus did a nice job of boxing out key on Martin on a five yard completion from Huntley, I believe.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a great completion, I think, but it's good body control by Quavus, and I'd like to see that from a tight end, who understands how to box out a smaller player.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that'll be always a kind of a weakness of Martin, something he has to overcome is, how do I make a play from behind on a bigger man?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that could be a wider seaver or a much bigger tight end, like Davis and he today, he was not able to get it done in this case.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Serrat made a sliding grab by the left side line.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Five yards, one circle.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: Not, not okay, I want to say one circle by the left side line.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Not a big play in terms of yardage, but there's just weren't that many.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Session is not even funny.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, almost all the attempts, basically, were approximately that distant, certainly under ten yards.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, in some cases, they did little things to get open.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, we kind of have to talk about that because there's not a lot of other
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: else to talk about positively from the offensive side.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Adam Randall, one of those balls, five yards between the numbers in the left-hash, Randall kind of double caught the ball.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: And this is something we've seen good hand to hands, I'd say generally speaking, you've got Adam Randall and kind of like ex-wider-sever comes with a reputation as a guy who can catch the football.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to be able to do that.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it's not it's not good even on a five yard catch when you see these double clutches where the ball kind of got away from a little bit for a slight bubble and then he recontains it that about cost him the act during the regular season.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: He knows it.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it's something they'll look at on film and then try and get better at.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: A number of 11 on 11 highlights, Jackson overthrew Andrews, 20 yards down the right sideline.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: We had Marlon Humphrey was in fairly tight trailing coverage, but Jackson overthrew Andrews on the play.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been complete.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: It was just a little bit over.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: Emery Jones and CJ Koi had a second squabble.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even see the block in this particular case, but they were back, you know, jog at each other, face to face here.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: And clearly, you know, this is an ongoing thing.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Either the next player, the next play, after that, Jones drove a clay back several yards, and I think he got the best of CJ on this day, so we'll see.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: CJ, obviously, really on the bubble of the roster.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Every James is secure, but CJ, very much in danger and losing his roster spot, and not looking good against a, you know, a good young Ironman is not what he wants to be remembered for.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: uh... came in rucker got a good pressure to force scholar Thompson a scramble right for a gain of about five to ten yards i would say uh... it was a case where rucker uh... you know beat the beat the tackle i believe it was the left tackle he beat although the next place lined up on the offensive right side so i'm not a hundred percent sure that it could have been he just happened to get into the backfield
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: through the back door, but, you know, with a stunt or twist or, or I just didn't, I'm just missed it perhaps and he, you know, forced him out of the pocket to the right side.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: But in case, Rucker, a good pressure on the playtop, so to scramble for a few yards.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: Randall, I had a really nice runny bounce.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: to the outside and burst off that right side for a big game, we've seen a lot of very good burst from Adam Randall.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: There's also good cutting.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: Just very excited about him as a back so far.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't really, in my opinion, need to provide anything directly for the Ravens as a receiver.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be icing on the cake if he did.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he needs to spell Derek Henry.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: a fair amount, at least probably get the carries that a keep Mitchell got last year.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: I could keep Mitchell I 40 plus carries last year.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: He's got at least, you know, be probably in the 40 to 80 carry range.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say this year and picking up the bulk of other run carries.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: I do still expect that we'll see Hill a lot on third down.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: We may see Randall's some as well, but the thing Randall needs to do to get him a few more is he needs to commit to being a better pass blocker.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: we won't get a really good opportunity to see that well until we get into some team activities, joint practices, I should say, and some preseason games.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that'll be a good test.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll try and get an idea of where Adam Randall is as a past blocker at that point.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: So Mike Green get a pressure of Lamar from the offensive left side as he threw a five-yard past to Mark Andrews by the right pylon.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of rolled out on the play.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: Funable landers in the right play all happening very soon.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was close to us, but Andrews went out of bounds and that was how it was ruled and then Labar ran off and argued with the official, which is is interesting and kind of intense that he would be doing that in a padded practice, but obviously everybody's trying to win for their side of the Latin scrimmage there.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: On the very next play, Andrews do drew an end zone DPI on Kyle Hamilton that would have put them all the one you are in mind, so I think you got it back on that play.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: You saw a Tyler Huntley throw a middle screen to Hibner.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: I have it as 0 plus 10, the ball was placed in about the 10 yard line to start with.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: So this was very close to a touchdown if it would have been taken down to the one yard line or something.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: But good play for Hibner.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to see some of that.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: We need to see Hibner not only catching the ball.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd like to see more catches down the field.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: The end one other in this game that was.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: But also he needs to get yak.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: and him there's college game was very much about yak, but that was kind of skewed with some very long plays during his last four college games where he got behind the defense one time each game for a big yak play.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a case where he's got to do more after he catches the football and this was a good example of one and exactly what we're looking for.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: We saw David Olegiga drive back Emery Jones into the back field to blow up a Randall run left for a tackle for loss.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Really nice play for Olegiga.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's made about a play per day.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's looked really good.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a legitimate practice squad guy.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually not 100% sure if he's PPP eligible either.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: You're allowed one extra practice squad player during the season.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: If he meets that the standard for what the Ravens are trying to do, I sorry, what the
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: NFL is trying to do in terms of foreign-born recruiting.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not sure if he is or not, but if he is, he'd be a fine player to have in that spot if a quay is not there.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's see.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Huntly through an incomplete pass for Gillary ten yards down the right side on with Tampa in coverage, then he saw Thompson roll right off a play action fake and he hit him there for a ten yard touchdown on that play wasn't really any doubt about that one and it was nice play was about ten yards from the line of scrimmage right by the goal line where he hit him.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: So a nice play there and that's what we're looking for from Hibner to get cut out.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Beyond that first level of the defense and ideally beyond the the second and between the second and the third We're at which is where he should be able to live with Lamar Jackson and the way he can pick apart his own defense And hopefully that's what ends up happening
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Thompson's next pass off the fingers of Quavus and incomplete.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: It was five yards between the numbers in the left hash.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like it was going to be a TD.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: Had it been caught.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: So that was unfortunate.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of red zone drills that were working through in this segment of 11 on 11.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Chidobia Wuzia make a very nice play to knock down a pass from large acts and intended for Z flowers.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Five yards down the left side line.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: The more force the ball into some tight windows during this practice, they flowers didn't get free for any real big plays, and this is a very nice play from Cheeto, who's probably been a little bit silent so far in this camp.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: It hasn't been bad by any stretch, but he's been a little bit silent.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Then we have the scariest play of the day.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: Jaylen Hawkins ran into Jacobi Lane and Nate Wiggins in what was certainly the hardest collision day.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Those are three players who figured to have prominent roles with the Ravens this year.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly cannot afford to have a really serious three-way collision in that.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: There's a DPI flag on Hawkins.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, Wiggins had very good coverage on the play.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: And all three players ended up getting up slowly.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: Not what you want to see probably gets a talking to.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: After the fact, if it hasn't happened already, and the fact that Wiggins was up a little slowly is something, hopefully they use the teaching moment for taking care of your teammates during camp.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, not intentional or anything.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that, but you still don't want to see it.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're back.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we continue with some 11 on 11 stuff.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: We had Zion young.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: I have a very nice bull rush versus Carson Vincent.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: That
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: looked very one-sided, let's put it that way, so Vincent sitting in her left tackle, Zion, young, drove him back, directly into Huntley, like sometimes get into the cone, this is directly into Huntley's person, and the both did not get blown dead at that time.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: He did get some kind of a pass off, but I was too busy already writing about the pressures Zion and get to see where the pass exactly went.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: Humbley then through a very much timing throw is ball out quick to Gillary's ten yards between the hashes is incomplete and low, you know, a lot of trouble connecting with Gillary on the next place incomplete to him, ten yards by the left side line, longer beam was in coverage.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like he might have impacted the throw, you know, in terms of where Humbley felt it could fit it in and that ball went incomplete.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: We saw as a flower is stacked up in the backfield for a loss, but I didn't see exactly how
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: It broke down on that side, but the left side of the Ravens offensive line gave ground, and it ended up that Zay Flyers didn't have anywhere to go.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson then threw off the fingertips of Henry five yards by the right side line.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: The very next play, he caught Lamar's five yard pass, and it looked like he picked up about 20 yards after the catch, so maybe the best result for Lamar of the day was that pass for Henry.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I see the next throw was his best pass of the day.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: He was under a little bit of pressure.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: He threw side arm, hit smite, 15 yards in the middle of the field.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: There was some yac in terms of that as well.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Hit smite, in stride.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: That was one of the fewer longer plays also to smite this camp.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a guy who mostly has been getting some short stuff.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, just not that many targets.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's afraid to throw too.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to be able to feel a lot.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: But smite is primarily a blocking tight end.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Hibner is really the guy they expect to be more of a receiving tight-end.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Quave us again, a mixed-use guy that could be either a kind of guy you'd line up in the back field, a guy you move, but more of a blocking presence and probably less of a receiving thread.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar then had a throw from Mark Andrews, it was knocked out from behind, I did not see the player.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was five yards between the numbers and the left hash on that play.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Again, try to get the ball into some small windows here.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: Huntley threw a ball well off target for Jacobi Lane, it was about 15 yards, down the right side line, it was where the ball ended up.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even sure where it was supposed to be.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: He was
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: pressured on the play, but that ball was so far off where it's supposed to get.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think he got hit, and I don't think the ball got hit or tipped at the line of scrimmage.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was just a really bad throw.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: It was off-target.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: And then so Roshina Lee made a run middle.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Made some good cops.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was about a five to ten yard run, but it was a lot of him.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of working through a a set of defenders that was there and making some grounded.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: mentioned it's all about.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't really going all out on the ball carriers in this practice, so it might have been shortened up, had they been a full contact practice or a practice with another team that they'd be doing that.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: He'd be some stars on offense, Matt Hibner looked like a primary target, two nice red zone plays that I mentioned earlier, either of them might have gotten the team in the end zone or at least very close.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: Adam Randall continues to run well at point him, and the other guy I'd point to, I guess there's two offensive line, and the first is Emery Jones, who's certainly got the better CGA Coia, though he did also get driven back by David Little J, got to have a play.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: blown up.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: But he looked physical and he played low.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: So one really good block from Venga Yuanay.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think he, you know, also had a very solid day.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: There was a ton of past rush coming from that position.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he as Peoples had a very quiet day in particular.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: And he's been one of the guys been going up against Venga a lot.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: On defense, it's really hard to pick a single star because it's like a lot of players had one play and moreover, the defensive backs and the coverage unit as a whole did a really good job of denying good windows to Lamar for most of the day.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: And Huntley, that matter.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: And as a whole bunch of check down throws,
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: But sevens or elevens, whatever, is a whole bunch of five-year-thrues.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a sign that the defense is playing very well, that the defense of backfield, in particular, is holding their end up of the coverage elements.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: And it's actually surprising that the front seven really didn't get more pressure, but there was a balance for a seven effort.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Rucker, young, oligika, all made some progress in terms of getting in the backfield.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: Some didn't see any of us people's make a play today, but he's been pretty good in camp so far.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, a broad set of positive contributions from the front seven with good DBs.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: The one guy I'll point out to his neat wiggins, who I thought was good in coverage on the Hawkins DPI, where he just happened to get caught up in the, uh,
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: line of fire from Hawkins and got hit for this three car pile up.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he also, he recovered to make a play on the football on the long 40 yards, seven on seven under throw for Tess Walker.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that was the ball that Lamar looped up there and he was just, it was well short on and for the second time this camp, Wiggins came back in to make a play on the football.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar's got to trust his receivers a little more on the deep ball, his touch doesn't really seem to be there as judgment on the long ball as it's been in the past and hopefully that we'll just come back as more camp and any throws more football this summer.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: At the podium, we had Jesse Minter first.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about not hitting the ball carries today, but the elevated contact and the line play.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: One of three people, he was one of three people, talked about how Venga Yuanay looks like he's been playing this game for years, and in particular, looks like he's been playing it for years with Roger Rosengarden.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: So the two of them, you know, I have worked very good together.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't, you know, they haven't really decided on their starting center yet, and he's gotten some staffs with Pinter, he's gotten some staffs with postsick, he's gotten some staffs with Gwion, even.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: But he mostly has been playing with Roger Rosengarten on that first team unit and get it a lot of time with him.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: uh... he said he was expecting a steady progression from non-divated b.k.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: talked about you know but obviously it's been out here for a few days now and not really doing context up but this is he the nice thing about today was he seemed to get all the way through calisthenics without any interruption to what was going on so that's good that's a step in the progression and hopefully uh... we see more soon
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: He says the team will likely do something quickly to replace Hakimadanigi on the roster.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: City wasn't going to get into the reasons for Akim's retirement, but it talked about it being a personal matter, and they're not going to just not going to discuss that.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, then we had the great pleasure to have Duane Ledford stepped to the podium.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: And if you didn't know it and you were anywhere in that facility, you should have because he has a voice that is similar to an air raid cyber going on.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's the single loudest podium speaker.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: I have ever heard.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: He does not need a microphone to talk to a crowd.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: He would have made a great 19th century politician where he could get up and talk to a crowd as if, you know, everyone is right next to him even though they're, you know, 500 feet away.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: He seems in every way like an offensive line coach.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about the event go a little bit, he said he's very smart, understands the game up front, knows what they are asking of him at the position, has a great mindset, and he says this guy's the limit for him, you know, the normal things you would say from a coach to the position, but there was this common theme of vengas seems like he's been playing the game for a long time and looks very well simulated.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's little reasons we're leaving no doubt that vengas is the opening day starter at record.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's this point.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: There really isn't anybody else
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: Vegas clearly, the guy they're expecting to play every snap at right card for the Ravens this season and hopefully for years to come and it's really very clear from that.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: I said he wants three things from his Lyman.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: This was really interesting.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: He says he wants speed off the ball.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: toughness at the end of practice that's similar to what they're bringing at the beginning.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: So it's maintain your pace, be able to play at a high level all the way through and also to finish by playing longer and harder than the guy opposite him and I think he means on a single play basis but it would apply to a drive as well.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you need to play harder and with more intensity than the guy opposite you and that does things to that defender.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a really interesting
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: He said he expects leadership from Roger Rosengarten in year three, he mentioned the three players in the center discussion.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's talking about win, pinter, and, and, and, uh, post-sick, of course, it in that, but he's, he's not talking about Bullock, and he's specific.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's no mention of Bullock, no thought about him being back.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even sure how he fits into the Raven's plans for us the season, given his current NFI status and what they might do.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it'd be almost
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: a nice thing if they could keep them on an NFI status for the whole year not lose a year of his time with the ravens.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: If he has to go to IR then the ravens either way they're effectively probably going to pay him but even if he spends the year on an NFI but if they
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: If they leave on NFI for the year, then he'd be with the Ravens for an extra year prior free agency and they might really value that.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's important because none of the Ravens centers are signed for next year.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're all free agents at the end of the year.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the ravens have such a monstrous list of free agents they've assembled.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: The entire defensive line, potentially, could be free agents at the end of the year with the exception of Travis Jones, who signed for two.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: So the amount of turnover that's still gonna occur on this roster is quite frightening and it's a lot of older players that need to either be replaced or additional commitments need to be made with which is either one as a little scary.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: He talks about expecting the center decision to take the entire camp.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think mentor actually said something different.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: He thought, you know, we get towards that decision, but mentor was careful to say that Ethan postsick really hasn't gotten an opportunity yet because the injury he's dealing with, he did expect that to happen.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: I expect Ethan postsick to be the Ravens Openeday Center.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you go out and get him unless you really believe he's there.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's obviously not completely ready from an injury standpoint.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: That would be the only thing that would hold him back in my mind.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: Ledford was asked about Emory Jones and moving him from guard to tackle, so he could play both.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: He said, that could be a lot for a young player, but it would be huge if he could play two positions as the six or seventh offensive lineman.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: And as a real real positive obviously, the Ravens have always favored one for one.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: insertions when they have an offensive line injury.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of the things that really helps the offensive line continuity.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: The last thing you want to do is you have a moving part that's that's the only really valuable moving part, like a Patrick McCary used to be, say, who, you know, is playing right guard, but then he can move to center, if need be, and then you need to do right guard, you're actually changing two positions and you lose more line continuity that way.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: There aren't even some three for one changes that the really famous one in Raven's history was what they did going into the 2012 playoffs when Michael or had played left tackle and pretty poorly for the entire 2012 season.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Bryant McKinney replaced him at left tackle for the playoffs and he was probably a little bit better than or had been during the year.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Or went to write tackle where I don't think he was terrible.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly wasn't any worse than he was at left tackle.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: And then the big winner was Kalechi Assembly, who was the right tackle and moved to left guard and was one of the real driving forces for the Ravens in the playoffs during that 2012 Super Bowl run.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big loss in continuity when you have to make a three-position switch obviously like that and so any time you do it you do it with With temerity All right, what else do we have?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: I had a very good discussion and this is where you get into the mindset of lead for it.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: You just really like it about how speed to line a scrimmage and rapidity getting set Stress is the defense.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: So doing these cadence drills and you know the Ravens probably operated them last year in a way that was even more
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: To the point that leadford is making here that they would start in a huddle, the play would get called it would get translated as quickly as possible They would run to the line of scrimmage and they would they would get set they would do they go through their motion They get a clean snap off and you get a clean first step
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: that's what those cadence drills were last year.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: This year they're a little bit different.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: They're like many walkthroughs where they call a play and they want to make sure the first three steps for everybody are right and I think they might even be less concerned about being multiple in terms of cadence on such plays.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: Last year with Monk and it was definitely about being able to be multiple in terms of their cadence is they were still having a lot of fall starts in those drills which which
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: as it turned out for fall starts overall and I think they actually did a good job in that particular thing of being ready to play in the regular season driving value from the summer.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: What anyway, back to what Lebford said today was it was getting a lot of scrimmage quickly and you get set.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: That defender is stressed.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: They have to communicate on defense too.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: You're making your play very quickly.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have time to react to it.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: and you'd like to bet on every single roll.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Think about how much it stresses you to have a really fast shooter in there where you have to get your odds on, you have to get your payout, you have to get your next come bet out there, and then you have to make sure your last payoff is correct if things are going well, and that's a math B in itself, and you want to make sure you do all that correct.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of, I think it's kind of like that maybe if I were to give it
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: and you feel stressed actually by a fast shooter just the way you feel stressed by a fast offensive line and getting set in front of you.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, what's it says he wants to see multiple offensive players around the ball carrier when he goes down.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Some things that's good, some things that's bad, but I either see how the sentiment there.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to see a lot of guys in the...
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: running down field using their aerobic advantages to the in a position to make blocks like that's good that's what I think he really means but you know a lot of dance partners who a lot of players who don't have dance partners in the area in the bulk area doesn't it's not necessarily good at all but anyway that's uh it was interesting point.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: He said he's a glasses half full guy with regard to what players can do, okay?
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: So he doesn't really want to talk about what players can't do.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about what players can do, and you know, one thing that comes to mind here is that almost all offensive line drills are run-related.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: There's a reason for that, because in order to have really good pass-bocking drills and pass-bocking testing, you need live opponents who have a plan of their own.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you get some of that in 11 on 11, so you get some of that when you have that, any joint practices, and obviously you get it in preseason games, you hopefully get an opponent who understands what they're trying to do against you and it has a plan as trying to get you to make mistakes.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: offensive line drills.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: But it's very important that you select based on that much more important characteristic namely fast blocking.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a dilemma for lead for it because a lot of what he can do to coach up an individual player is going to be related to a particularly during a practice.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be related to run drills and you're going to your hand placement right getting your first step right in any kind of run drill.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: But in terms of fast blocking,
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: much more nuanced.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably best done by looking at film and try to figure out what a player is doing wrong in terms of setting his feet right in terms of getting his initial hand placement well, try to get first strike or deciding how he's going to fight off a player with a length advantage or a disadvantage either way.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: All the things that go into being a good passblocker and that'll, you know, led for as much great offensive line scheme as he could bring
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: A high level of credibility by returning the Raven's run game to a level it was in 24 or even in the Roman era, either of those as possible, but a lot of the Raven's success is going to be determined on whether or not this line could pass block.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, they have some significant questions there, particularly at Left Garden Center, in terms of whether those guys could stand up to the remainder of the AFC North.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: In a lot of ways, lead for just, that's, that's the bigger hole on the ship to fix.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And if he's going to polish the deck and make it all look and work on some small hells in the run game, which was fantastic last year anyway, even even at a grain more,
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they were second in the NFL in yards, and they had a good success rate of over 52% last year.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's still pass-blocking as what really matters for offensive linemen.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, enough on that, remove it on to Roger Rosengarten.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: The first thing he did was make fun of lead for his booming voice, says he can hear it all over the facility.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: He clearly loves him.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, absolutely clearly loves it, because you don't make a joke about that about your coach, unless you have a really good relationship to start with.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: But the one guy that he reminds you of, if you went to camp any time between about 2000,
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say eight when he became the kind of leader that he eventually would be.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then up till 2018, Terrell Sugs was, first of all, he was hilarious.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: And he would tell his joke
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: on a volume of about 12.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody who was no more than one field away, which is basically the entire facility, could hear that joke he was saying.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he would consistently have these biting one liners he would throw out there and combine with things he did on the field that would just drive some of the offensive players nuts.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I could remember him having this peek a boo in reception and what, I don't know how to go to this story, but anyway,
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Sugs have, you know, a similar voice to lead birds that booms all over the facility.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Rosa Garden says he wants to be a leader and assert himself in the run game in 2026, his third year.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: He says he feels like he's been playing with Venga for years already.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, something tells me they could have already got together and talked about that beforehand.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we'd like to say we're both at the podium today.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: We want to talk about how it feels like we're even playing for years together.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then by the way, Jesse, would you mind mentioning that, too?
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: I really think in this case, they do look very comfortable together as Howard said, there is a back handedness to what's saying.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: He says, you know, Venga said, you know, playing next to to a certain red jersey girl said, playing next to Venga is just making my life a lot easier kind of thing.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: the backhand there is for Daniel Fahal Laylay and he's saying that you know it was very difficult playing next to Daniel Fahal Laylay last year because you need a point of comparison or you don't have, you know, he's making it easier for me to do these kind of things to just have his, you know, you do that point of comparison.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, to talk about Venga Mori said his contact balance and speed off the ball are off the charts, I can't wait to really see that in terms of offensive line scoring.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things is kind of frustrating about watching this and you hear me lamenting the fact that I'm missing players, but I don't have any tape to go to.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: I have to watch it live and have to catch it live, and I'll catch as much as I can, but I'm going to miss stuff occasionally.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: And watching Venga play, I have a feeling it's going to be very fun this year.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: I said, he can't speak highly enough of them.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's made my job a lot better, and that's the back end of the Insult of File Laylay.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: And there's asked how he would assert himself more in the run game.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: And he came up with this.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: He said a commitment to cardio is what he's really working on.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: He said he and his roommate, and I don't know who that is, it might be another offensive lineman or it might be another guy he lives with, whatever it might be, but he and his roommate apparently have done a lot of cardio work together.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: He says he wants to run off the ball every play, run up to the ball, run off the ball every play, and be able to wear out the opposing defensive linemen over its 12 or 13-play drive.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he said the Ravens have not been good, the Ravens offense, a offensive line I believe we're talking about is not been good about finishing games in the past.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: They need to be better at that and describes the ravens as a relationship-based team Permitters vision, which I thought was very good.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that likes each other I think you can gain a lot from that and on the offensive line in particular They mentioned you know going over to Ronnie Stanley's house and playing cards and and do is and have a cookout apparently there
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's a cook app, it might have been a cook in, but they were eating food over there.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: These are positive things.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think when you're offensive line is doing that together, when you're defensive backs are watching film together, these are positive things.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: They help a team play together in a way you probably gain from.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, last of the podium was Vengad Yuanay.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a long time since he's had pads on.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: It feels different when you love the game to do that.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: The mantra of doing lead for he repeated was speed off the ball.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: So he had three items he really said.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: But he got one of them anyway.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: Lead for he said is also very chill and relaxed.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, talks about life with them.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, these good coaches, you're very loud, and he'll
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about things, but he also has chill and is happy to talk away with you as well.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: Said playing next to Roger Rosenberg is making an easy year for him.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: And he's asked about which defensive linemen has impressed him so far.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: He said, and he has pebbles was the guy.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: He had good twitching us and disruptiveness and he's gotten him a couple of times, which he expected to be the case, you know, him being the young guy and all of a sudden where you put it.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, uh,
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's a very good endorsement for envious peoples to have Vengue Iwane's attention so far and I think people's has had a good camp and I kind of we had a pod just yesterday about what actually came out this morning about how people's now fits into this team they've they've signed
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: Bride of Washington is there a chance to keep six defensive linemen if they keep five as they always have, then you know, people's could be in a little bit of a tough spot for making the team.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: So it's be interesting to see how that comes up and he's certainly not hurting his case with the camp he's had so far.
