- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Mick Garrison.
- 0:07Speaker 2: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It's showtime. The following feature has been rated R by
- 0:22Speaker 3: the Motion Picture Association of America. It is intended for
- 0:25Speaker 3: mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Our nuclear reactor
- 0:31Speaker 3: pumping out.
- 0:32Speaker 4: One million kilowatts of power.
- 0:59Speaker 5: Five more cooling in the containment chamber.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That's not a knife.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That's a knife.
- 1:26Speaker 2: See you right there.
- 1:56Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian and
- 1:59Speaker 1: joining me this week is Dickstar. We're coming to you
- 2:03Speaker 1: live via digital recording from the Audity Studios here for
- 2:06Speaker 1: another Meltdown Horror Club meetup. And this is another, see
- 2:12Speaker 1: this has been an ongoing thing of trying to get
- 2:16Speaker 1: it out there and trying to get the word out.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So I recently did a little promo episode and put
- 2:21Speaker 1: it up on the regular feed. It was like, hey,
- 2:24Speaker 1: this is what we do. We're doing more horror stuff.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Come join the club and we're doing a bunch of these.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That was the recent Town That Dreaded Sundown. Have you
- 2:35Speaker 1: seen that one?
- 2:36Speaker 2: The original? A long time ago, yeah. We were not thrilled. Anyway,
- 2:40Speaker 2: it has such a reputation.
- 2:42Speaker 1: We went in with such high hopes and I was
- 2:44Speaker 1: just like, what the hell is this movie? So, yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 1: that's on the feed if you want to go hear
- 2:49Speaker 1: that if you didn't listen. But, yeah, so I'm potentially,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'm like, alright, we're doing something here, we've got some plans,
- 2:57Speaker 1: so I'm like, we'll throw this one out on the
- 2:59Speaker 1: regular feed, but this is like, this is the promo,
- 3:01Speaker 1: this is like, here's the cool horror stuff we're thinking
- 3:05Speaker 1: of doing, we're already doing a bunch anyway, but we've got,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I've got other... For a while now, I wanted to
- 3:10Speaker 1: kind of expand what we're doing and bring other people
- 3:12Speaker 1: in and do different kinds of episodes.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So we're doing all of that, but.
- 3:17Speaker 1: It's trying to get the word out to people that like,
- 3:19Speaker 1: this is what we're doing. Come, come, you know, log in,
- 3:22Speaker 1: join the club. It costs next to nothing to be
- 3:24Speaker 1: a member. So just go to, go to movie meltdown.com,
- 3:28Speaker 1: go to the Patreon link and it's right there. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: we're doing tons of exclusive episodes that are just for
- 3:34Speaker 1: horror club members. And you get to see really cool
- 3:37Speaker 1: artwork like, I don't know, that 20 Ways to Die
- 3:40Speaker 1: artwork that we did.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Wait, who did? Oh, wait, it was Dick Starr that
- 3:44Speaker 2: did that artwork.
- 3:47Speaker 1: There's a die and a knife and a... The.
- 3:50Speaker 2: 20 Ways to Die? Yeah. Yeah, that's right. The die. Wait,
- 3:54Speaker 2: the D-I-E.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Die. I'm thinking of, what's the, is there a different
- 4:00Speaker 2: term for that? Dice. Well, yeah. For some reason, I
- 4:04Speaker 2: was thinking.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I think the geekier people decided to call it Die
- 4:07Speaker 1: And now we just dive into it And I just
- 4:10Speaker 1: used it as an excuse To watch horror movies and
- 4:12Speaker 1: watch people die And be nerds and roll dice So
- 4:16Speaker 1: it all comes together.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And I think there are more than 20 ways Oh
- 4:20Speaker 2: probably But.
- 4:21Speaker 1: For what we're doing There's only 20 And each one
- 4:26Speaker 1: Each person that comes on board and joins the club
- 4:28Speaker 1: Gets to add a movie onto our list And we're
- 4:30Speaker 1: constantly rotating through We don't know. It's random.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Which of these 20 movies are we going.
- 4:35Speaker 1: To watch next time? So that's how we've been doing it. Again,
- 4:39Speaker 1: if you're not listening, you might not know these things.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But these are cool things that we're doing at the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Horror Club.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So come on board. And you get to hang out
- 4:47Speaker 2: with Dick. Everybody's dream. Yeah, I think so. So it's
- 4:56Speaker 2: been a while.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yeah. It's been even longer since we checked in via
- 5:01Speaker 1: the internets during the shutdown there, but I don't know.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I have issues with trying to do stuff that way.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It's convenient. I wish it worked better.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I just feel like there's a disconnect between people.
- 5:14Speaker 2: There's technical issues.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's so much better in the same room.
- 5:19Speaker 2: No, I hear you.
- 5:20Speaker 1: In the same disease-filled room.
- 5:22Speaker 5: I hear you.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Well, it's one of those things where it's kind of
- 5:25Speaker 2: hard to keep track or keep up with everyone via
- 5:27Speaker 2: texting or social media or something. Because you never know
- 5:31Speaker 2: what's going on in somebody else's life. I mean, real
- 5:33Speaker 2: life things. Maybe they just need to sleep. Maybe they're sick.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Maybe there's a family emergency. You never know.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I mean, we've had a few this year that we
- 5:42Speaker 1: had to do that way because people were infected. At
- 5:46Speaker 1: one point, I might have been one of them. But
- 5:48Speaker 1: we've had several times it's like, all.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Right, we can't meet this time because I was like,
- 5:51Speaker 2: damn it. We should stop getting infected.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But it's been a long time since we've been in
- 5:58Speaker 1: the same general space. So how's it going this past year?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Hey, you know, pretty much like everybody, you know, just maintaining.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Like Cube says, trying to maintain. Man, I don't know.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It's been a weird one.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And for a long time. As a horror fan, I
- 6:16Speaker 2: watch movies and think, you know, if you know there's
- 6:19Speaker 2: imminent danger around the corner or outside, why don't you
- 6:23Speaker 2: listen to the people that are telling you to just
- 6:26Speaker 2: fucking stay inside? And then this happens.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And then you become one of those people and you're like,
- 6:31Speaker 1: but I want to go and get.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Oh, no, no, no. I'm the introvert.
- 6:37Speaker 1: But everyone wants to know how we all get through
- 6:39Speaker 1: that because that's the thing.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Of course. Many a time in this last year I've
- 6:42Speaker 2: been like, eh, it's very little that's changed for me. Well,
- 6:46Speaker 2: that's exactly it. My idea of a good time was
- 6:49Speaker 2: already sitting at home in the middle of the night
- 6:51Speaker 2: drawing and watching old wrestling or horror movies or playing
- 6:56Speaker 2: a video game in my free time, but I just don't.
- 6:59Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 6:59Speaker 2: This was one of those things where It's like, okay,
- 7:02Speaker 2: no wonder people make dumb decisions. They just do.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Always. We'll get to that later.
- 7:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Because I have a few responses as I'm watching this
- 7:13Speaker 1: week's movie.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Exactly. But yeah, I don't know.
- 7:16Speaker 1: This whole past year has been a weird mixture because
- 7:21Speaker 1: it is like there's times when I'm like, I don't know.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I don't go anywhere anyway.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like, can I go get food at the grocery?
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I just got to wear a dumb mask.
- 7:28Speaker 7: All right.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Well.
- 7:29Speaker 5: That's fine.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And the rest of my week is just sitting here
- 7:32Speaker 1: and editing the show and watching another movie. And it
- 7:36Speaker 1: all just continues on with the exception of, and this,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I guess, has affected both of us more than most people, actually.
- 7:43Speaker 1: The only thing I ever did that completely shut down
- 7:46Speaker 1: was conventions.
- 7:46Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So that definitely impacted you, I would assume.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Well, even bars. I mean, you can't have art shows
- 7:52Speaker 2: at bars anymore. I mean, there were just a lot
- 7:54Speaker 2: of things. I don't go to bars.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Art shows, I did.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 7:59Speaker 1: The only times I've been to bars recently has been
- 8:02Speaker 1: either some sort of live comedy event or music and
- 8:05Speaker 1: then art shows that my friends have at bars.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Absolutely. That's the only thing I do. I mean, I
- 8:10Speaker 2: go to Gore Club. That would be it. And that's
- 8:12Speaker 2: because I try to support things on Sundays or whatever,
- 8:16Speaker 2: especially with the horror community and Steve and them. um
- 8:19Speaker 2: but yeah like otherwise i just don't go to bars
- 8:22Speaker 2: i never add clubs you know and i don't get
- 8:25Speaker 2: it really like well it's a young person's game man not.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Even that because that's the thing people try to pull
- 8:30Speaker 1: that stuff on me oh you're old i'm like no
- 8:32Speaker 1: i was always like oh okay because i think back
- 8:35Speaker 1: i was like i didn't like it from the get-go
- 8:37Speaker 1: like i remember trying it when i was just legal
- 8:41Speaker 1: but um yeah i was just like this is what's
- 8:43Speaker 1: i don't i don't get the connection part of it
- 8:46Speaker 1: because i'm like i'm a geek who likes to sit
- 8:48Speaker 1: on and talk to people at best if they're the
- 8:49Speaker 1: right kind of people usually ignore everyone but occasionally if
- 8:52Speaker 1: i find the right person i'm like oh let's hang
- 8:54Speaker 1: out and talk well you can't do that it's just
- 8:57Speaker 1: freaking shout out yeah you're just a horse in 10
- 9:00Speaker 1: minutes so i'm just like i don't get that i
- 9:03Speaker 1: don't want to drink i don't want to be around
- 9:05Speaker 1: drunk people so it's like Where's the upside to this?
- 9:08Speaker 2: Oh, that helped me quit drinking. Yeah. Like, I used
- 9:09Speaker 2: to work in bars. So, like, you know, just, oh, man,
- 9:12Speaker 2: carrying people out, vomiting, or watching bachelorette parties go crazy.
- 9:16Speaker 2: It's like, nah, it's fine.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I just don't get it.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So, I'll stick with my geeky pastimes, and I'm fine
- 9:23Speaker 1: with hanging out at home doing those.
- 9:24Speaker 2: We'll see. And then that's when the pandemic comes through. Yeah. Like,
- 9:29Speaker 2: I do... Honestly, I used to never video chat ever.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I hated it. Like, you know, even growing up watching
- 9:34Speaker 2: Back to the Future or Demolition Man and being like,
- 9:36Speaker 2: oh my God, I can't wait. Now it's like, oh fuck,
- 9:39Speaker 2: they're FaceTiming me or like, you know, something like, oh,
- 9:42Speaker 2: someone's going to Skype.
- 9:44Speaker 1: No. And that I think is being an old person
- 9:47Speaker 1: because that's, I have gotten involved with several much younger
- 9:52Speaker 1: people and they like don't even think about it. Like
- 9:54Speaker 1: they just, Every time they go to like what would
- 9:57Speaker 1: have been a phone call to me now is automatically
- 10:00Speaker 1: facetiming or facebook has their own dumb version of it
- 10:03Speaker 1: like everybody everybody has their own facetiming version of it
- 10:07Speaker 1: and i was just like every time it would go
- 10:09Speaker 1: off and be like oh fuck it's like really like
- 10:11Speaker 1: i've got other stuff i'm trying to do at the
- 10:12Speaker 1: same time i can't just stare at my phone for
- 10:15Speaker 1: however long this dumb conversation goes on i'm dumb only
- 10:18Speaker 1: if you're talking to me No, man, you don't want to.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Get FaceTimes from your parents in the middle of the night.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Thankfully, they're also old, so I don't get that from them.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. I'm very lucky. I'm not complaining.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I love having my parents still around, but at the
- 10:32Speaker 2: same time, you know, if your grandma or son, you
- 10:34Speaker 2: see your phone light up and you're in the middle
- 10:37Speaker 2: of watching a movie or, I don't know, taking a shit,
- 10:39Speaker 2: and then you're like, oh, this is not the time
- 10:41Speaker 2: for you more than anyone. Why are you FaceTiming? Can
- 10:44Speaker 2: we just not be handled over the phone? It creeps
- 10:47Speaker 2: me out. It just does.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that video phone camera thing, I think
- 10:53Speaker 1: the camera steals your soul.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It just creeps me out.
- 10:56Speaker 2: More than anything. Yeah, I feel like an FBI agent
- 10:59Speaker 2: watches the inside of my pocket a lot. Oh, probably. Well,
- 11:02Speaker 2: that's the thing.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I assume everyone is recording and watching and listening and
- 11:06Speaker 1: all of that, but I'm just like, I feel so
- 11:08Speaker 1: bad for the bastard that gets assigned to me. Because
- 11:10Speaker 1: I'm like, it's just so lame.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And I pull up reference pictures of, like, My Little
- 11:15Speaker 2: Pony for somebody's commission or something.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Which I was going to say, with the exception of
- 11:18Speaker 1: my Google search, which is always loaded with weird shit, which,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I mean, aside from my own personal weird endeavors, which
- 11:27Speaker 1: are already weird enough, but then I always, like, will
- 11:29Speaker 1: type in weird stuff that we're talking about on the show,
- 11:31Speaker 1: either just to get the spelling right or something. So
- 11:33Speaker 1: I'm just, it's always in my Google search. And I'm like,
- 11:36Speaker 1: if somebody goes back, that's what the list became. If
- 11:39Speaker 1: you watch the episode, like, the description that comes up
- 11:43Speaker 1: i it started in the beginning of me just like
- 11:46Speaker 1: putting down the basic stuff we were talking about and
- 11:48Speaker 1: then it like spiraled off into we say the weirdest
- 11:51Speaker 1: dumbest shit ever and i'm just like so i started
- 11:54Speaker 1: typing some of those too and then after a while
- 11:56Speaker 1: it became mostly those and then oh yeah and we
- 11:59Speaker 1: actually talked about this movie but so now it's just
- 12:01Speaker 1: like a stream of random nonsense that we say that
- 12:05Speaker 1: sometimes is related to movies sometimes it's just insane and
- 12:09Speaker 1: i'm like i'm typing and then posting all of that
- 12:12Speaker 1: into google so many red flags.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And just well man i mean you know there's been
- 12:18Speaker 2: it could be it could go right from breakfast food
- 12:21Speaker 2: to lucha masks you know what i mean like in
- 12:23Speaker 2: the same both are awesome by the way totally 100
- 12:27Speaker 2: i'm on.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Board with both if you had like a Lucha mask
- 12:29Speaker 1: made out of bacon.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Oh, dude, just wait. I'll send you a picture in
- 12:33Speaker 2: a little bit. I just did one. Bacon and eggs.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Does not surprise me then. All right. That was like
- 12:40Speaker 2: probably the whole reason that first two came to my
- 12:42Speaker 2: mind was like the last two things open in my tab. Oh, yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 2: That's disturbing.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But yeah, that was the whole camera thing. It was
- 12:51Speaker 1: funny because someone previously Regular on this show actually got
- 12:57Speaker 1: a hold of me like and we was like, oh
- 12:58Speaker 1: we're doing like movie trivia You should get involved.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I'm like, okay.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Wait, do we have to be on camera? They were
- 13:04Speaker 1: like no if you want you can just do them
- 13:07Speaker 1: So like everyone else on there the other night they
- 13:10Speaker 1: were doing trivia There was like a whole little screen
- 13:13Speaker 1: of like different teams of people and they were all
- 13:15Speaker 1: on their little screen There's my black sitting up in
- 13:18Speaker 1: the corner.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'm like every once a while would pop up when
- 13:21Speaker 2: I would talk.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And be like That's me that's me i was controlling
- 13:27Speaker 1: myself i was still considering myself in public so i
- 13:30Speaker 1: yeah so that's.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah i've gotten very comfortable with zoom calls.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I even even when we were recording i didn't bother
- 13:38Speaker 1: with the video aspect i'm like it's just gonna be
- 13:40Speaker 1: distracting we're just gonna be looking going what what the
- 13:42Speaker 1: hell are you doing oh yeah like let's just stick
- 13:45Speaker 1: to our old method and I.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Just know as far as work goes, Zoom.
- 13:50Speaker 1: That's what everybody does now. Thankfully, I don't have to
- 13:54Speaker 1: do that. It's what everybody's doing. I don't know that
- 13:58Speaker 1: that's going to change either. I feel like the world's
- 14:02Speaker 1: not really going to go back. Not for quite some time.
- 14:05Speaker 1: In general, I think there's so many aspects to what
- 14:08Speaker 1: has changed in this last year that it's not 100%
- 14:12Speaker 1: going to go back. People have gotten so comfortable with
- 14:17Speaker 1: Either video chatting all the damn time, not going into work,
- 14:21Speaker 1: handling everything in a Zoom meeting, like all of that
- 14:24Speaker 1: just convenient.
- 14:25Speaker 2: And I'm like, I don't think people are going to
- 14:28Speaker 2: go back.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Like some of them will, but I don't think you're
- 14:30Speaker 1: going to like all of a sudden 180 degrees. We're
- 14:33Speaker 1: right back to the.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Way it used to be.
- 14:35Speaker 1: People get set in their ways real quick.
- 14:39Speaker 2: You also see so many things, so many times in
- 14:42Speaker 2: literature or in movies where you know, down the road
- 14:45Speaker 2: in the, in the not too distant future, society is
- 14:49Speaker 2: kept apart largely, you know, and it's, and you always
- 14:52Speaker 2: wonder like, well, come on, when, when did it get
- 14:54Speaker 2: like that? Why would it ever be like that? And
- 14:56Speaker 2: then you see something like this and it's like, oh shit,
- 14:59Speaker 2: then the world has to keep going. So they develop
- 15:02Speaker 2: everything to be able to be done remotely from home. And,
- 15:05Speaker 2: you know, so like on your own and yeah, it's crazy.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Well, and I keep, I keep saying that especially tied
- 15:12Speaker 1: to what we do every, episode the entire entertainment system
- 15:17Speaker 1: has rearranged it and it was already doing that it
- 15:20Speaker 1: wasn't like oh covid came along screwed everything up like
- 15:23Speaker 1: the last 10 years has been a steady hey look
- 15:26Speaker 1: here's red box hey you don't even have to go
- 15:28Speaker 1: to a video store then it became hey netflix hey
- 15:31Speaker 1: netflix mails it to your house that's a dumb idea
- 15:33Speaker 1: hey look now it streams right near house and then
- 15:35Speaker 1: suddenly every i mean amazon was already doing it and
- 15:38Speaker 1: then all these other net you know Companies came along
- 15:41Speaker 1: and were just like, oh shit, we can make tons
- 15:43Speaker 1: of money and not ever have to physically do anything.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We just beam it out.
- 15:47Speaker 2: To them and charge them for it. that was already
- 15:50Speaker 2: going on.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So now that like people just don't go out into the,
- 15:54Speaker 1: like you see major releases coming straight to your, I
- 15:57Speaker 1: watched something on.
- 15:58Speaker 2: The premiere day the other day.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:01Speaker 1: And it was weird because like, I then Google again,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I was like trying to figure, I was like, wait,
- 16:05Speaker 1: what was the name of that thing?
- 16:06Speaker 2: I just watched it.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I brought it up and it brought up the theaters
- 16:08Speaker 1: it was showing in.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I'm like, Oh, that's weird.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Like I've never, like I saw wonder woman, but that
- 16:14Speaker 1: would seem like a big promo. This was just a
- 16:16Speaker 1: regular old dumb movie. And I was just like, Oh,
- 16:19Speaker 1: that's like on its opening weekend, I sat in my
- 16:22Speaker 1: house and watched it. That's weird.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I mean, Borat 2, you know what I mean? That's
- 16:26Speaker 2: not the first Borat in the theater. Same with the
- 16:29Speaker 2: Jackass movies. And now it's kind of crazy to think that, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I don't know the next time I'll be in a theater.
- 16:36Speaker 2: And you're never really worried about that.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And I like the theater experience.
- 16:41Speaker 2: That's the thing, man. I still enjoy the theater. Yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 2: I look forward to it. It's still like... do I
- 16:47Speaker 2: want to sit there with a mask on? Like that's,
- 16:50Speaker 2: I'll wear them when I need to wear them.
- 16:52Speaker 1: But I'm like, it's just, it's not going to be
- 16:53Speaker 1: comfortable sitting there for what is always a three hour
- 16:56Speaker 1: minimum experience now. Cause you got commercials and trailers and everything.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Every movie is two hours and 30 minutes anyway.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So you want to have a drink, you want to
- 17:04Speaker 2: have a beverage or popcorn or anything like that. I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 2: even just, even just comfort, you know what I mean?
- 17:09Speaker 2: Sitting in the theater with other people, That might not
- 17:12Speaker 2: be wearing a mask. And then you're just circulating the
- 17:14Speaker 2: same air around.
- 17:15Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You remember Outbreak from the 90s? You know, you watch
- 17:18Speaker 2: that scene in a theater where the one person coughs
- 17:20Speaker 2: or sneezes and you just watch the droplets go everywhere. Yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 2: and it's like, no, that's all right.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 2: You know, especially now with the streaming the way it is.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Like you said, Wonder Woman came out the day straight
- 17:29Speaker 2: to HBO Max.
- 17:30Speaker 3: And I know.
- 17:31Speaker 2: What's the next Godzilla vs. King Kong? I saw the trailer.
- 17:34Speaker 2: That's the way that went.
- 17:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I had the trial of that, and I was like,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I don't really, it's not an impressive lineup, really, of
- 17:41Speaker 1: everything else. But then I saw the, here's what's coming
- 17:44Speaker 1: out the rest of the year. And I'm like, so
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm just going to keep signing up for this every
- 17:47Speaker 1: couple of months, right? Because I'm like, I want to
- 17:50Speaker 1: see that. Oh, wait, I want to see that.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Ah, shit.
- 17:52Speaker 1: But I don't want it enough to keep it all
- 17:54Speaker 1: the time, because it's not really that great of their stuff.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Well, surprisingly, we already had HBO. And when HBO Max
- 18:03Speaker 2: came around, I was like, I'm not getting another HBO Max.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Are you joking? And then suddenly it swapped. Suddenly we
- 18:10Speaker 2: just had access to HBO Max. And I'm like, wait, what?
- 18:13Speaker 2: We have HBO Max? Okay, then it's fine. Well, it
- 18:16Speaker 2: became a thing where South Park is on there now.
- 18:20Speaker 2: There were a lot of TV shows. Yeah, there's a
- 18:22Speaker 2: handful of things that I'm like, okay. What all they
- 18:24Speaker 2: had access to. Yeah, and so, dude, I might not
- 18:27Speaker 2: keep it for very long, but I've had it for
- 18:29Speaker 2: like three or four months, and it's kind of one
- 18:31Speaker 2: of those where, yeah, if they're going to keep dropping movies, especially, especially,
- 18:35Speaker 2: I want to know if they sign some more deals
- 18:37Speaker 2: with other studios because movies last year that I was–
- 18:41Speaker 2: Freaking waiting. I mean, I've heard this show multiple times
- 18:45Speaker 2: and I've been on it. I can cuss, right?
- 18:46Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 18:47Speaker 9: Okay.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So, the thing is, you know, like the Spiral movie,
- 18:51Speaker 2: the new Saw, the new Halloween, like Halloween Kills was
- 18:55Speaker 2: supposed to be out this past year. Deadpool, or not Deadpool,
- 18:59Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Venom 2 was supposed to be out. Like,
- 19:02Speaker 2: there's just a handful of really solid, you know, horror
- 19:05Speaker 2: type movies that I was waiting on. And... They're in
- 19:09Speaker 2: the can. Like, they're done. Just sitting there. You know
- 19:11Speaker 2: what I mean? And so I'm like, shit. Just put
- 19:15Speaker 2: it out. Just let me buy it. You know?
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Even if you just throw the new Spiral on video
- 19:21Speaker 2: on demand for $ 10, I'll probably just buy it. Because,
- 19:25Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying? Produced by Chris Rock. Starring
- 19:27Speaker 2: Chris Rock, Sam Jackson. It's a new Saw movie. I'll
- 19:29Speaker 2: take it. I'll take it.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But see, look how easy that was. You know, where
- 19:34Speaker 1: like 10 years ago, nobody would have even thought of
- 19:36Speaker 1: that idea happening. But like now, not only is it happening,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but within a second there, you went, yeah, I'll probably
- 19:43Speaker 1: get that.
- 19:44Speaker 2: How much they want for it? Yeah, I'll probably do that.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It's just become that easy because it's convenient and it's
- 19:51Speaker 1: just even the world is set up to do that
- 19:55Speaker 1: now because you can't even count on theaters coming back
- 19:58Speaker 1: and they were already continually declining every year so that
- 20:01Speaker 1: they were already talking about oh man is this is
- 20:04Speaker 1: this gonna you know come crashing down at one point
- 20:06Speaker 1: and i'm like the movies aren't like they're still making
- 20:10Speaker 1: a ton of stuff so it's like they're always going
- 20:12Speaker 1: to be able to make more stuff and have a
- 20:14Speaker 1: market to put it out there unlimited amount now but
- 20:17Speaker 1: That theatrical first run thing, not necessarily.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and they were adding so much to theaters too
- 20:23Speaker 2: to keep them relevant. I mean, whether it was 3D, 4D,
- 20:27Speaker 2: I mean, comfortable seats, reclining seats, dinner being served. I mean,
- 20:31Speaker 2: they were adding it all. They were spinning the plates
- 20:33Speaker 2: to keep people coming in. Like, what else can we do?
- 20:35Speaker 2: What else can we do? Man, I loved it though.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Again, I still want to go see stuff, but again,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I don't think it's ever going to go back.
- 20:45Speaker 2: To the way it was. Well, real quick side note,
- 20:48Speaker 2: think about things like buffets or salad bars. Dude, have
- 20:51Speaker 2: you walked through like a Whole Foods or a Kroger,
- 20:54Speaker 2: you know, and you see the salad, the graveyard of
- 20:58Speaker 2: the salad bar? It's just like all the holes, but
- 21:01Speaker 2: in the holes, it's just shoved a bunch of bags
- 21:03Speaker 2: of chips. They just shove like.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Get yourself some chips.
- 21:06Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, here's Parmesan crisps and pretzels now. It's
- 21:09Speaker 2: not fresh salad shit. Like, I don't know. That's another
- 21:12Speaker 2: thing I think... the more I watch shows and movies
- 21:15Speaker 2: from the past two, even from two years ago. Yeah.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Every other scene, I'm like, whoop, COVID. You know what
- 21:21Speaker 2: I mean? Can't do that now. Can't do that now.
- 21:23Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Just like a hug or like somebody like, you know,
- 21:26Speaker 2: like just kissing a buddy or like, you know, eating
- 21:29Speaker 2: off of somebody else's plate. I'm like, COVID.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Nope, you're all dead and I hope you're happy.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy because it's just, you look
- 21:36Speaker 2: at everything differently.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yep.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I'm telling you. It's a different world.
- 21:46Speaker 10: To say the least The sun comes up from in
- 21:51Speaker 10: the west And sets down in the east.
- 21:55Speaker 8: The stars are out there shining But just where we
- 22:00Speaker 8: cannot say It's a different world now Like night and day.
- 22:10Speaker 9: Guitar solo.

- 22:55Speaker 7: tender steak with eggs chips and salad a big cup
- 22:59Speaker 7: of hot chips or fish and chips thick crunchy hamburger
- 23:05Speaker 7: giant size hot dogs laced with sauce or mustard banana
- 23:09Speaker 7: fritters with rich full cream steaming hot coffee Icy orange

- 23:30Speaker 1: So Misty, you like horror.
- 23:32Speaker 8: I do, it's my favorite.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I think most people are into that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: And if they are, they should be joining up on
- 23:40Speaker 1: the old Meltdown Horror Club.
- 23:41Speaker 3: I will take you to a place where my friends
- 23:44Speaker 3: will gather. There you will find stories of such blood-curdling
- 23:49Speaker 3: terror that will make your toes curl and your hair
- 23:53Speaker 3: reach up towards the sky.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Well, yes, all they have to do is go to MovieMeltdown.com,
- 23:59Speaker 1: click on the Meltdown Horror Club link that's right there
- 24:01Speaker 1: on the right-hand side, and join the club. Hells yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 2: And then they can hear exclusive episodes all about horror.
- 24:09Speaker 2: All about whatever crazy movies we're watching.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And at this point, they get to help us pick
- 24:14Speaker 1: the next movie that we watch.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Awesome. Them and Satan.
- 24:19Speaker 1: And or the evil forces that live inside the 20-sided
- 24:22Speaker 1: die that I now use to choose what our next
- 24:24Speaker 1: horror movie is going to be. But you put things
- 24:26Speaker 1: on the list and then we go to the evil
- 24:29Speaker 1: forces that live in the die and they tell us
- 24:31Speaker 1: what the next movie is.
- 24:32Speaker 2: It's pretty fun.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Sounds pretty exciting. I think we're having fun with it
- 24:35Speaker 1: and you can be part of that fun. Go to MovieMeltdown.com,
- 24:39Speaker 1: join the Meltdown Horror Club, and get in on the action.
- 24:42Speaker 11: The most fun you'll ever have being scared. There is
- 24:51Speaker 11: a place where time stands still. Where nature is harsh
- 24:57Speaker 11: and demanding. Where only the quick and the strong and
- 25:02Speaker 11: the deadly can survive. This place is no place... for
- 25:08Speaker 11: civilized man. In this place, man is just another of
- 25:23Speaker 11: God's creatures. The aborigine and the girl. 30,000 years apart, together. Walkabout.
- 25:49Speaker 11: Just about the most different film you'll ever see.
- 25:52Speaker 8: Walkabout.
- 26:13Speaker 12: Hi, this is Verdon Wells, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 26:17Speaker 12: And I have one thing to say. I know where
- 26:20Speaker 12: you live, you little fuckers. So listen, or I will
- 26:23Speaker 12: come and get you, I will rip off your head,
- 26:26Speaker 12: and I will piss down your neck. So, remember that.
- 26:34Speaker 2: One final word.
- 26:35Speaker 7: Before leaving, replace the speaker on its stand, then drive
- 26:40Speaker 7: forward and move.
- 26:41Speaker 2: To your left.
- 26:43Speaker 7: You must never reverse out of your position.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Thanks, everyone.
- 26:48Speaker 7: We trust you have a very pleasant evening.
- 26:50Speaker 2: It's time for Sofa Theater. Captain's log.
- 26:55Speaker 7: Sofa, no sign of intelligent lifeforms.
- 26:59Speaker 8: Wow.
- 27:05Speaker 2: That's awesome. Looks like we might be spending the night.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Just stay in the car. What the bloody hell are
- 27:28Speaker 2: you mob doing out here? Scared the shit out of me. So,
- 27:34Speaker 2: where did you live? I get around here. Never know
- 27:38Speaker 2: where I might pop up.
- 27:39Speaker 12: What do you actually do?
- 27:42Speaker 2: I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
- 27:52Speaker 2: He's got you.
- 27:58Speaker 11: Let's play.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Samba Faces around with skin so brown.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Smiling. Zinc cream and crowds.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Someday it's a beach. Never a cloud.
- 28:31Speaker 2: With an eucalyptus. Pushing pans and pans. Stuffing munch trucks.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Food loving at the cave.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Cause cough was tough till he hit the love.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Hey, Uncle Sam and John.
- 28:42Speaker 6: Were quite enough.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Too much of sunshine.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Too much of sky. Jump.
- 28:53Speaker 9: It's just enough to make you want to cry.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Oh, the power and the passion. Oh, the temper of
- 29:09Speaker 2: the time.
- 29:12Speaker 1: With all that fun state of the world out of
- 29:16Speaker 1: the way, we can move on to this week's movie.
- 29:19Speaker 2: To another fun place in the world. To another fun
- 29:22Speaker 2: little story.
- 29:24Speaker 1: This week's Sofa Theater feature is Wolf Creek. The year
- 29:27Speaker 1: is 2005. The director is Greg McLean. And the plot,
- 29:32Speaker 1: according to IMDb, three backpackers stranded in the Australian outback
- 29:38Speaker 1: are plunged into.
- 29:39Speaker 2: A That's kind of.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It cashed in all the 50 cent words on that description.
- 29:50Speaker 1: That was kind of more impressive than most IMDb. So
- 29:53Speaker 1: I usually call them out for terrible.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Good going. Yeah, it might have been actually written by
- 29:58Speaker 2: somebody involved in the movie. Like an actual writer. Yeah.
- 30:00Speaker 1: As opposed to just some random idiot on the Internet.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Somebody getting paid for the word. Yeah, really. Somebody there
- 30:07Speaker 2: cashed in.
- 30:07Speaker 1: So spoiler alert, we're going to ruin the hell out
- 30:11Speaker 1: of this. So hopefully you have seen it. As we
- 30:14Speaker 1: were discussing as we got rolling there, this is one
- 30:17Speaker 1: of those that I knew of since it came out
- 30:21Speaker 1: and was like, oh yeah, it sounds kind of cool.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I think I'd seen the trailer early on and I
- 30:25Speaker 1: was just like, yeah, I want to watch that.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And then just it got away from me.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And what's funny is I had a copy of it.
- 30:33Speaker 1: We had it early on in the show. Like we
- 30:36Speaker 1: had one of the regular listeners that we became friends
- 30:39Speaker 1: with and we saw him over the years. But like
- 30:41Speaker 1: in the very beginning, he's like, switch i think some
- 30:44Speaker 1: of it was switching stuff out the blu-ray some of
- 30:46Speaker 1: it is my wife said get rid of a lot
- 30:48Speaker 1: of this crap so it was just like clearing out
- 30:50Speaker 1: a bunch of dvds he's like look i got all
- 30:52Speaker 1: these i don't know what the hell i'm gonna do
- 30:53Speaker 1: with them you guys want them so like sent a
- 30:55Speaker 1: big box of dvds and i'm like hell yeah we'll
- 30:58Speaker 1: start so some of them we watch for the show
- 31:00Speaker 1: and then there were a bunch of others that are
- 31:01Speaker 1: i put on the shelf i'm like all right we'll
- 31:03Speaker 1: get to these and like they've been there like i've
- 31:06Speaker 1: slowly worked through but that was one and i'm like
- 31:08Speaker 1: i'm pretty sure that was in that batch and i
- 31:11Speaker 1: just haven't gotten to it yet And I went looking
- 31:13Speaker 1: yesterday like, there it is.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Wolf Creek.
- 31:16Speaker 1: And then it became the game of, for years there,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I kept, because I also saw the trailer for Cry Wolf.
- 31:22Speaker 1: And I kept going, wait, is it that one? Which
- 31:25Speaker 1: one is the one with the school? Because the trailer
- 31:28Speaker 1: looked really cool for that. And I finally, this past year,
- 31:30Speaker 1: watched Cry Wolf.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Not so great. Okay. If you haven't seen it. I
- 31:34Speaker 2: have not.
- 31:35Speaker 1: We can throw it on our ongoing list if somebody
- 31:37Speaker 1: out there wants to hear us talk about it.
- 31:38Speaker 2: But again, such a great concept.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Not really great execution. So every time I had to go, wait,
- 31:46Speaker 1: which one's in.
- 31:47Speaker 2: The outback and the guy trying to kill him?
- 31:49Speaker 1: And like, so finally I can answer my own question
- 31:51Speaker 1: and be like, oh, no, I've seen that movie, Wolf Creek.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So, yeah. And you said it had been a while
- 31:56Speaker 2: for you. Yeah. I mean, it had probably been a
- 31:58Speaker 2: couple or at least two or three years maybe because
- 32:01Speaker 2: I hadn't seen it for the longest time. And when
- 32:03Speaker 2: I finally did, I was like, why the hell haven't
- 32:06Speaker 2: I watched this yet? And then I was like, oh, shit,
- 32:10Speaker 2: there is a sequel. Yeah. You know, so again, it
- 32:12Speaker 2: got me into the movies, you know, so. But yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 2: I like it. I thought it was just one of
- 32:18Speaker 2: those outback gems, you know, that.
- 32:22Speaker 1: I wasn't sure what to think going in. Again, I
- 32:24Speaker 1: just kind of knew of it and knew it was
- 32:26Speaker 1: people running around out in the middle of nowhere trying
- 32:29Speaker 1: to stay alive. Crazy dude trying to kill him, which
- 32:32Speaker 1: is a lot of movies. But this is, I mean,
- 32:37Speaker 1: it hit kind of on two different levels.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I was like.
- 32:40Speaker 1: First time through just kind of watching it, I'm like...
- 32:42Speaker 1: I'm like, this is a good movie.
- 32:45Speaker 2: But I wasn't overly liked.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Scary kind of, it's just like, it's creepy, the dealing
- 32:53Speaker 1: with the guy, but maybe because it's so reality based,
- 32:57Speaker 1: like maybe I'm more like entertained and creeped out by
- 33:00Speaker 1: monsters and like weird supernatural end of it.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Then like, this is just.
- 33:04Speaker 1: A crazy dude. And again, because they present it as
- 33:06Speaker 1: so real life, this is what happened, which is not true,
- 33:10Speaker 1: but it's like, maybe because of that, I was like, yeah,
- 33:12Speaker 1: it's just another, like, like you're watching another true crime thing.
- 33:15Speaker 1: And to me, that's more like, disturbing, but on a,
- 33:19Speaker 1: this is just messed up kind of way versus a,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Oh my God, scary horror movie kind of stuff. So
- 33:24Speaker 1: I had that version of it kind of the first
- 33:28Speaker 1: time through and then going back and kind of doing
- 33:30Speaker 1: stuff for the show. I'm watching it going, this is
- 33:33Speaker 1: like a masterclass and how to make a super indie
- 33:37Speaker 1: film because then like, listen to the, like the producer
- 33:41Speaker 1: and the director talk about this.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I'm like, they had like no money.
- 33:44Speaker 1: No time and just kind of came up with this
- 33:46Speaker 1: idea and we're like okay how do we shoot this
- 33:48Speaker 1: so like so much of it from that angle is
- 33:51Speaker 1: really impressive because there's all these like real world technical
- 33:55Speaker 1: stuff that you hear them talking about that's like yeah
- 33:58Speaker 1: this whole little opening montage of all this like looks
- 34:01Speaker 1: like you're driving 500 miles across you know they did
- 34:04Speaker 1: that on one stretch of road And just hung out
- 34:07Speaker 1: the side of the car shooting footage and then edited
- 34:09Speaker 1: it together. So it looks like this massive road trip.
- 34:12Speaker 1: And it was literally up and down the same stretch
- 34:14Speaker 1: of road.
- 34:15Speaker 2: That's fantastic.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, that's genius filmmaking. That's just having
- 34:20Speaker 1: no options and being super creative and being like, all right,
- 34:22Speaker 1: how do we make this work? And there's so many
- 34:25Speaker 1: times when that kind of stuff happens, including the location. Like,
- 34:29Speaker 1: that is a real place, but it's not there. Like,
- 34:33Speaker 1: the way that you see it is not at all
- 34:35Speaker 1: how it exists.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's near, like, a national park. And there's probably tons
- 34:39Speaker 1: of people around if you go to the real one.
- 34:42Speaker 1: But they were like, that's not what we want to do.
- 34:45Speaker 1: We want to deal with isolation equally as much as.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Like, the horror end of it.
- 34:49Speaker 1: And we want to deal with, like, things just not
- 34:51Speaker 1: feeling right. Being out by yourself and being alone and being...
- 34:55Speaker 1: so far away from all of you know civilization that
- 34:58Speaker 1: like you don't really have the options you normally.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Would oh man and you're at the you're at the
- 35:02Speaker 2: mercy of the elements i mean at this point you're
- 35:04Speaker 2: at the mercy of being exhausted starving dehydrated you know
- 35:09Speaker 2: wounded uh yeah yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 1: That's another one of those the the the weather part
- 35:14Speaker 1: of it none of that was scripted oh it was
- 35:17Speaker 1: all just all the rain and the clouds coming in
- 35:20Speaker 1: and the weird gloomy atmosphere they were like it hadn't
- 35:23Speaker 1: rained in that area in like years like and all
- 35:27Speaker 1: of a sudden they roll into town to shoot rains
- 35:30Speaker 1: for like three days straight like all of a sudden
- 35:32Speaker 1: it kicked in and they're just so those scenes when
- 35:34Speaker 1: they're like oh look there's a storm coming in like
- 35:37Speaker 1: it was really them going oh shit what are we
- 35:38Speaker 1: gonna do and like they had to kind of on
- 35:41Speaker 1: the fly kind of rewrite it so those scenes of
- 35:43Speaker 1: them going i don't know i didn't think it was
- 35:45Speaker 1: gonna rain it was all like improv stuff that they
- 35:48Speaker 1: came up with on like okay work this in because
- 35:50Speaker 1: this is gonna be our plot now because we have
- 35:52Speaker 1: this many days to shoot this is it this is
- 35:55Speaker 1: what time we have to shoot here so make it
- 35:57Speaker 1: work like And the fact that it all looks that
- 36:00Speaker 1: good and like comes together and you don't question it
- 36:03Speaker 1: is really impressive.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Well, the fact that you say that, I mean, I've
- 36:05Speaker 2: seen the movie three or four times now and I've
- 36:07Speaker 2: never even thought about that. Like it just didn't cross
- 36:10Speaker 2: my mind.
- 36:10Speaker 1: It supposedly in that area, like never, like it goes
- 36:13Speaker 1: for years and they hardly.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Get any rain at all.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And like all of a sudden that weekend they were
- 36:18Speaker 1: shooting like tons of ranges. So yeah, like even being
- 36:23Speaker 1: able to like pivot and be able to work on
- 36:25Speaker 1: that kind of stuff and be like, all right, make
- 36:27Speaker 1: this work. because now you hear the director talking about it,
- 36:29Speaker 1: he's like, really, I'm so glad that happened, because it
- 36:31Speaker 1: adds such a level of just gloominess, and like, just
- 36:35Speaker 1: this weird, and again, like, that feeling that something's not right,
- 36:40Speaker 1: which is what they kind of keep coming back to,
- 36:42Speaker 1: that every time they get out there, there's just like.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Something unnatural is going on here.
- 36:46Speaker 1: And that works so well, like, if it was just
- 36:49Speaker 1: Sonny in 85, you know, all of a sudden, they'd
- 36:51Speaker 1: be like, this seems kind of weird, that like, now
- 36:54Speaker 1: this guy just shows up, but when everything.
- 36:57Speaker 2: For the entire first 20 minutes of the movie continually gets, huh?
- 37:00Speaker 2: That's weird. Huh? That's weird.
- 37:02Speaker 1: And like, it gets weirder and stranger and more distant
- 37:06Speaker 1: from humanity.
- 37:07Speaker 2: And like them, when you get to him.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Showing up, you're just like, Oh God, this is not
- 37:11Speaker 1: going to go. Like, You know that anyway, you're watching
- 37:14Speaker 1: a horror movie, but it just adds so much to
- 37:16Speaker 1: it that like, again, wasn't even planned in the.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Writing of it.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Well, I mean, and a lot of times writers and
- 37:22Speaker 2: directors add thunderstorms in there for mood. Yeah. For effect,
- 37:27Speaker 2: you know, so they were the other way. Yeah.
- 37:30Speaker 1: It's fantastic. They specifically had to. Work around that, and
- 37:35Speaker 1: it worked out.
- 37:35Speaker 2: The other thing was just the scenery of Australia. I mean,
- 37:38Speaker 2: Australia is one of those places where I've already said
- 37:41Speaker 2: to most of my friends, I would never go. Like,
- 37:45Speaker 2: I love looking at some of the wildlife online. but
- 37:49Speaker 2: I'm not about to die from an ant bite. You
- 37:51Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 37:51Speaker 1: I mean, it is one of the more deadly places
- 37:54Speaker 1: on the planet.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Dude, you can die from any, like, and then even
- 37:58Speaker 2: if you're like out in the middle of a protected fortress,
- 38:01Speaker 2: a giant cloud of spiders can go floating into your,
- 38:05Speaker 2: you know, you're like, fuck this. But so again, if
- 38:08Speaker 2: you don't have to worry about centipedes and scorpions and
- 38:12Speaker 2: snakes and shit, you got to worry about Mick.
- 38:14Speaker 1: You know, that's the other issue that comes up. But
- 38:17Speaker 1: it does, like, from the other side of that same
- 38:20Speaker 1: coin is, like, for these purposes, it looks amazing. Like,
- 38:25Speaker 1: and they, again, they're talking about, like, we just, you know,
- 38:28Speaker 1: we didn't do anything.
- 38:29Speaker 2: It just, it looks like this. Dude, it's the location, man.
- 38:32Speaker 1: We just saw those birds going by and we got
- 38:35Speaker 1: this shot and it looks amazing. And, like, this, like,
- 38:38Speaker 1: there were a few times where they had to, like,
- 38:41Speaker 1: they had to like Matt in like they did get
- 38:43Speaker 1: the real footage, but it wasn't where they were at.
- 38:46Speaker 1: So they get like, you know, B unit stuff of
- 38:48Speaker 1: the sky and the background over here. And then later,
- 38:51Speaker 1: which again is amazing because they're pointing it out. And
- 38:54Speaker 1: I'm like, it doesn't look like that at all. Like
- 38:56Speaker 1: that's great work, especially 2005. I'm just like, you can't
- 39:00Speaker 1: even tell like that's impressive. Again, on just a low
- 39:03Speaker 1: budget technical end that they're able to throw this stuff
- 39:06Speaker 1: in and you not even notice.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:08Speaker 1: But, again still shooting this like amazing landscape out there
- 39:12Speaker 1: and especially once you get to that whole meteor oh
- 39:16Speaker 1: man the overhead shots too that was before drones were
- 39:19Speaker 1: heavily available yeah I mean there are moments in there
- 39:21Speaker 1: where I'm like god dude what was the budget I
- 39:23Speaker 1: didn't know all these things you're telling me about I
- 39:26Speaker 1: think that was like their one helicopter that they rented
- 39:28Speaker 1: or something yeah just to get that footage. But other
- 39:31Speaker 1: than that, you never see a shot like that again
- 39:32Speaker 1: because they.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Couldn't afford it. No wonder. I mean, yeah.
- 39:36Speaker 1: But those are the times when I'm like.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I don't know. I'd kind of like to see that.
- 39:39Speaker 2: That looks pretty damn cool. But do I want to die? No.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 39:44Speaker 2: That's why, yeah, I'll look at it on Google Earth.
- 39:47Speaker 2: I'll check out a documentary on National Geographic.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Which this is, right?
- 39:51Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Wolf Creek, the documentary. Which you find out is completely lies.
- 39:56Speaker 1: What's that kind of like, actually?
- 39:59Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. People get so caught up in that.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And they're just like, well, actually, that's not how it happened.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I'm like, it's a movie.
- 40:06Speaker 2: It's fine. You're like, have you seen the Amityville?
- 40:08Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, get over it. I'm like, because
- 40:11Speaker 1: people kind of put too much faith in everything. Even
- 40:14Speaker 1: when they read a novel, they're just like, well, in
- 40:16Speaker 1: the book it said that. I'm like, yeah, that's also fake.
- 40:18Speaker 1: He's like, don't assume anybody's telling you the truth.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Like, it's just a story. Well, it's also a bio.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Be entertained. Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 2: How many times do your friends retell the same story
- 40:30Speaker 2: that you told, and it's got different details, different shit,
- 40:32Speaker 2: like ways you don't remember it, and you're like, wait, what?
- 40:35Speaker 2: I don't remember, you know, but it's like, dude, again, yeah.
- 40:38Speaker 2: You take it for what it is. There's so many
- 40:40Speaker 2: different things that, you know, based on a true story,
- 40:43Speaker 2: you find out it was like, some guy heard of
- 40:45Speaker 2: a dude that did one thing one time that sounded
- 40:47Speaker 2: similar to this. And yeah, it doesn't make sense.
- 40:49Speaker 1: That's kind of what we're dealing with. And that's why
- 40:52Speaker 1: I went back. Cause at first I was just going
- 40:53Speaker 1: to watch it and be like, whatever. I was like, well,
- 40:54Speaker 1: I kind of want to know how much, you know,
- 40:57Speaker 1: they worked in of that other, of the original story
- 41:00Speaker 1: that they claim.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And it's not really them. They just ran with the
- 41:04Speaker 2: missing persons thing, right?
- 41:05Speaker 1: Because he's the writer-director, and he wrote this years before
- 41:10Speaker 1: that happened. He already wrote a horror movie about kids
- 41:15Speaker 1: running around out in the outback and some guy trying
- 41:18Speaker 1: to kill them. He already had that, and didn't really
- 41:20Speaker 1: like the way it turned out. Sat on his shelf.
- 41:23Speaker 1: This new story came up, and he was just like, huh. Now,
- 41:26Speaker 1: what if I kind of reworked it and kind of
- 41:29Speaker 1: spun it in the way.
- 41:31Speaker 2: That's this new story?
- 41:32Speaker 1: And so he combined those into this new thing. And
- 41:36Speaker 1: even then, it's like bits and pieces of other stories kind.
- 41:39Speaker 6: Of like that.
- 41:39Speaker 2: That's totally, yeah. That's how Texas was. If it works, good.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 41:44Speaker 1: People should not put that much faith in some other
- 41:47Speaker 1: person's movie that is supposed to be the truth.
- 41:49Speaker 2: It's just for fun. If it made them question it
- 41:52Speaker 2: that way, well, then they're doing something right. The director
- 41:55Speaker 2: and writer did something all right.
- 41:58Speaker 1: And the moral is don't trust people. Don't go out
- 42:00Speaker 1: there into these scary places. You're going to get killed.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Learn those things from it. Don't worry about the details.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Just don't trust Mick or anyone like Mick.
- 42:09Speaker 2: It's a parable. You're supposed to take the moral.
- 42:12Speaker 1: The moral is don't get killed by Mick.
- 42:15Speaker 2: What did he actually do?
- 42:17Speaker 1: Now.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Oh, I can tell you. And then I'm going to
- 42:24Speaker 2: have to kill you. So you.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Don't really shoot kangaroos, do you?
- 42:39Speaker 2: I'm doing people a service.
- 42:40Speaker 7: I've taken out a few roos.
- 42:41Speaker 2: They're everywhere out here now.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Like tourists.
- 42:46Speaker 6: That guy, man.
- 42:47Speaker 2: The actor, what's his name? John, I think? John Jarrett? Jared,
- 42:58Speaker 2: that's what, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, that guy is, his laugh,
- 43:02Speaker 2: everything about his demeanor, like you believe it. You believe
- 43:05Speaker 2: he is a 100% been out in the outback for 40,
- 43:09Speaker 2: 50 years, easy, doing everything he's doing.
- 43:13Speaker 1: And that's, again, like points to him because he's like,
- 43:16Speaker 1: he's known over there for doing like a sitcom. Okay,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I know he's an awesome actor. They said when he
- 43:20Speaker 1: was out there, yeah, because I don't think the other
- 43:22Speaker 1: ones had done a ton of acting, but he was
- 43:24Speaker 1: like their big get. He, I think, wrote it with
- 43:26Speaker 1: him in mind and was like, gee, I hope we
- 43:27Speaker 1: could get that guy. And then they ended up getting him,
- 43:30Speaker 1: but he was going out into the world trying to
- 43:33Speaker 1: get into character and trying to be super creepy. And
- 43:36Speaker 1: people were like, hey! And they'd be calling him by
- 43:38Speaker 1: his character name. People knew him from his goofy regular
- 43:42Speaker 1: acting roles. So it's not like he's just that all
- 43:46Speaker 1: the time, which is more impressive.
- 43:48Speaker 2: It's fantastic, yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 1: But I also, again, from the storytelling aspect, standpoint is
- 43:54Speaker 1: really impressive because they're also like using our expectations especially
- 44:00Speaker 1: outside of australia to their advantage like even so much
- 44:04Speaker 1: so that the characters bring up crocodile dundee like the
- 44:07Speaker 1: guy who lives in that country brings it up and
- 44:10Speaker 1: like because that did such a weird number on their
- 44:14Speaker 1: entire identity as a country as a continent like it
- 44:20Speaker 1: got so much recognition for that, that like, they're kind
- 44:24Speaker 1: of playing on that. They're like, well, what if we
- 44:25Speaker 1: throw this guy in there that has all the, the
- 44:29Speaker 1: charm and the folksiness of that same guy. But what
- 44:33Speaker 1: if you turn out, if you trust him, you're going
- 44:36Speaker 1: to die.
- 44:37Speaker 2: And what if he's like the craziest predator out in
- 44:40Speaker 2: the outback?
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah. So, yeah, I think that's, what's so impressive about
- 44:45Speaker 1: the way that he's written and the performance is that,
- 44:48Speaker 1: you totally buy into his like, again, it's almost that
- 44:53Speaker 1: folksy part of it. It's not like he's like so
- 44:57Speaker 1: charming and refined. It's just like, you totally buy him
- 45:00Speaker 1: as this guy and he's a real world guy and
- 45:03Speaker 1: he's out in the world and he, you assume, oh yeah,
- 45:05Speaker 1: he's been out here. He knows how to fix the car.
- 45:08Speaker 1: He knows how to like, you guys, you don't question
- 45:10Speaker 1: his like authority in this world. If you were in
- 45:13Speaker 1: the middle of Sydney, you'd be like, who the hell
- 45:15Speaker 1: is this guy? And you'd know what's going on. But
- 45:17Speaker 1: because they're, so removed from everything.
- 45:20Speaker 2: They're like, this guy's the authority.
- 45:22Speaker 1: This guy knows, you know, everything about this area out here.
- 45:24Speaker 2: We can totally trust him. Plus they're in jeopardy. Don't
- 45:27Speaker 2: trust him. Like they're already in trouble. They're already stranded.
- 45:30Speaker 2: They're in trouble anyway. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it's definitely, like,
- 45:34Speaker 2: they have really no choice. And then this guy presents
- 45:37Speaker 2: himself with all the charm of a snake handler. You know, like,
- 45:40Speaker 2: the guy's just got, like, he's got jokes, anecdotes. He's, like,
- 45:44Speaker 2: you know, quips. He even kind of, like, you know,
- 45:46Speaker 2: gives off a little bit of an angry vibe and
- 45:48Speaker 2: then joking around. You know, I'm busting your balls. And
- 45:51Speaker 2: he kind of puts him at ease multiple times when
- 45:53Speaker 2: he could have, like, laid into them. Yeah, yeah. Like, man,
- 45:58Speaker 2: and I really think his laugh, his laugh is one
- 46:00Speaker 2: of the most, like, It's one of those memorable villain laughs,
- 46:05Speaker 2: like it's disarming, but it's also like you almost laugh
- 46:09Speaker 2: with him. You know, like you hear him do the,
- 46:12Speaker 2: you know, and you're just like, whoa, that's like. Man,
- 46:15Speaker 2: that's what those guys laugh like. But I don't even know.
- 46:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 46:18Speaker 1: I think they said he worked for weeks on end
- 46:22Speaker 1: just trying to perfect that laugh. And then one of
- 46:26Speaker 1: the two girls was like, I still have nightmares. She's
- 46:29Speaker 1: still traumatized by it.
- 46:31Speaker 2: By his laugh? Yeah. She's like, I still hear that laugh.
- 46:34Speaker 2: It still creeps me out. That was one of my
- 46:35Speaker 2: favorite parts, man. And not even a part. It was
- 46:38Speaker 2: just one of my favorite little elements in this whole
- 46:41Speaker 2: Wolf Creek genre. or this whole Wolf Creek universe, is
- 46:45Speaker 2: that laugh. It almost strikes me as his Michael Myers music.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Whenever you hear that laugh, shit's about to go down.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Get away. But yeah, I don't know. I think that
- 46:59Speaker 2: that's another one of those character traits that just sold
- 47:03Speaker 2: the movie that I was already into. And I think
- 47:08Speaker 2: he made it. just so much more believable. And I
- 47:11Speaker 2: think he's also the best part of the movie.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I mean, he definitely makes the movie. Like if it
- 47:16Speaker 1: were just, cause the other three are fine. And like,
- 47:19Speaker 1: they're really good. Especially once we get to the, the
- 47:22Speaker 1: scared part of it, like the, the girl chained up,
- 47:24Speaker 1: like her performance is amazing. As far as just, you
- 47:28Speaker 1: do not question that she is not terrified.
- 47:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:31Speaker 1: So like that performance is also pretty impressive, but like,
- 47:34Speaker 1: I think, That's where you could see something, especially an
- 47:37Speaker 1: indie movie, and you just pick the wrong actor, and.
- 47:40Speaker 2: It would just fall apart. Absolutely.
- 47:42Speaker 1: You'd just be like, oh, this is terrible. You'd be
- 47:45Speaker 1: lucky to finish it if that doesn't come along in
- 47:48Speaker 1: the middle. Because at that point, you almost need that
- 47:52Speaker 1: to pull you through, because it starts getting twisted and disturbing.
- 47:56Speaker 1: And a lot of people would be like, oh, because
- 47:57Speaker 1: they even talk about where the walkout points are.
- 48:00Speaker 2: They're like.
- 48:01Speaker 1: They're like, there's times when it goes a little too
- 48:03Speaker 1: far and people are like, nope, I'm out. So I
- 48:05Speaker 1: think everybody would be if it also didn't have a good.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Performance behind it.
- 48:08Speaker 1: But it's him being so, again, kind of alluring with
- 48:13Speaker 1: the way that he does that.
- 48:14Speaker 2: He adds levity to some horrible situation. Well, and again,
- 48:19Speaker 2: when you say the walkout thing, I'm curious because... When
- 48:24Speaker 2: you watched it with the commentary, did they mention what
- 48:27Speaker 2: they had removed for the theatrical cut? Well, here's the
- 48:32Speaker 2: reason I'm asking. When I went to re-watch this, the
- 48:38Speaker 2: theatrical rated R version is 10 minutes shorter than the
- 48:42Speaker 2: director's cut. And so I'm like, 10 minutes on film?
- 48:46Speaker 2: is a long time like five minutes is a good
- 48:50Speaker 2: amount of gore and material so i was curious.
- 48:54Speaker 1: See i don't remember it being all the stuff they
- 48:57Speaker 1: said that they shot a lot more of was the
- 48:59Speaker 1: other stuff okay because so much of the character building
- 49:03Speaker 1: with these three is stuff that they did through like
- 49:07Speaker 1: they had stuff scripted out they shot a basic version
- 49:09Speaker 1: of what was on the page and then they were
- 49:10Speaker 1: just like all right everybody just go have fun like
- 49:13Speaker 1: do your thing let's do some improv whatever So, like,
- 49:16Speaker 1: that whole, like, scene of the party, they were like,
- 49:19Speaker 1: we got to, a half hour of stuff of just
- 49:22Speaker 1: because and like finished stuff not just footage of like
- 49:25Speaker 1: at one point that party was a half hour and
- 49:27Speaker 1: we had to cut it down and then you get
- 49:29Speaker 1: to the three of them like one of those times
- 49:31Speaker 1: when the three of them are just sitting around talking
- 49:34Speaker 1: that was like another 10 minute segment they got cut
- 49:36Speaker 1: down so that i think part of it was taken
- 49:38Speaker 1: out of that And then, but yeah, the gore stuff,
- 49:42Speaker 1: I don't think there was a ton.
- 49:44Speaker 2: It's a slow burn. Yeah. So I can definitely see that. How,
- 49:47Speaker 2: you know, if they remove some conversation or some, you know.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Well, they even, there's a lot of misdirection leading up
- 49:55Speaker 1: to it because you get, if you didn't, if you
- 49:57Speaker 1: didn't see the trailer, if you just get into this
- 50:00Speaker 1: and you're watching it and you're getting that like uneasy feeling,
- 50:03Speaker 1: you're just like, oh, something's weird. And then you get
- 50:05Speaker 1: to like weird storm comes out of nowhere. And then
- 50:08Speaker 1: we get to, Oh, this giant meteor and the weird
- 50:11Speaker 1: stories that guy keeps telling at the beginning.
- 50:13Speaker 2: And then those lights.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Start coming towards them. You're like, this is all of
- 50:17Speaker 1: a sudden a supernatural movie. And like for, they play
- 50:20Speaker 1: that scene like that. And I thought that was really cool.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Cause even that first time through, I was like, I
- 50:24Speaker 1: know that's not where it's going, but you would buy it.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Like if I didn't know what was coming, you would
- 50:30Speaker 1: totally be like, Oh shit, what's coming?
- 50:31Speaker 2: What is it?
- 50:32Speaker 1: You know, it could, Aliens, ghosts, hell, I don't know.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Like it could be anything weird at that point. Right, right.
- 50:37Speaker 1: And we've already established this area is known for weird stuff.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Their watches stop, like the car quit working, people disappear.
- 50:44Speaker 1: So like any weird paranormal thing could happen at that point.
- 50:48Speaker 1: So if you didn't know, like if there were people
- 50:50Speaker 1: just like, Hey, I got free passes for this new movie.
- 50:52Speaker 1: And like, you're that far in, you're just like, Oh shit,
- 50:55Speaker 1: what's going to happen?
- 50:56Speaker 2: Like you kind of don't know 40 minutes in before
- 50:58Speaker 2: you even meet. Yeah. I mean, I want to say
- 51:01Speaker 2: it's almost an hour before shit hits the fan, which.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Which I think helps because again, these are not the,
- 51:07Speaker 1: deepest characters ever but we just log in so much
- 51:10Speaker 1: time in the beginning that i think that like you
- 51:14Speaker 1: at least care enough because there's plenty of horror movies
- 51:16Speaker 1: like i don't care who dies like i don't like
- 51:18Speaker 1: these people are annoying i don't care well they write
- 51:20Speaker 1: them that way but with it yeah on purpose a
- 51:23Speaker 1: lot of times yeah But with this, again, none of
- 51:26Speaker 1: them are amazing.
- 51:28Speaker 2: They're just dorks. They're all three just such dorks. Yeah,
- 51:31Speaker 2: they don't even make the guy a stand-up dude for
- 51:34Speaker 2: sticking up in the restaurant for the asshole that says
- 51:36Speaker 2: some horrible stuff. They treat it pretty real.
- 51:39Speaker 1: But even that's misdirection, because I'm watching that going, in
- 51:43Speaker 1: a normal movie, I'm like, so we're assuming these guys
- 51:45Speaker 1: are going to go out there and mess with them
- 51:47Speaker 1: as soon as they're going to go camping or wherever
- 51:49Speaker 1: they go. They're going to show up and terrorize them,
- 51:52Speaker 1: because that's where... many a horror movie would go. But again,
- 51:56Speaker 1: the misdirection through that first half is like really clever.
- 52:00Speaker 1: The way that they kind of set things up and
- 52:02Speaker 1: then just pull the rug out. And then crocodile Dundee
- 52:06Speaker 1: shows up and you're just like, Oh, what, what's gonna
- 52:09Speaker 1: happen here. And it does not go well.
- 52:13Speaker 2: He's one of those unexpected, like superstars. It just kind
- 52:16Speaker 2: of shows up and you're like, Holy shit. Who is
- 52:20Speaker 2: this guy? And then once it starts to go down,
- 52:24Speaker 2: you have another 45, 50 minutes of watching him in
- 52:28Speaker 2: action and watching people make pretty realistic decisions.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Because they're all bad.
- 52:33Speaker 2: That's what I mean. Plus, also, if you're trying to
- 52:35Speaker 2: put yourself in their perspective, you're in a little place
- 52:39Speaker 2: that took three hours to get to. And this is
- 52:42Speaker 2: in the middle of fucking nowhere. And so you're pretty
- 52:45Speaker 2: much stuck with whatever's around here. So you're not running away.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Even when that one kid does get away, where is
- 52:52Speaker 2: he going? I thought that the whole way through. I
- 52:55Speaker 2: was just like, that's the most.
- 52:56Speaker 1: When they kept driving, because they really did want to
- 52:58Speaker 1: draw out that scene.
- 52:59Speaker 2: So you understood... How far they went.
- 53:02Speaker 1: And I was like, at that point, I'm like, you're screwed. Like,
- 53:04Speaker 1: even if you get a car, you probably don't even
- 53:06Speaker 1: know where the hell you're going.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Or the gas to get back.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you could drive in the wrong direction and just die. Like,
- 53:12Speaker 1: just from the vehicle being lost out in the middle
- 53:15Speaker 1: of nowhere. Like, you don't even need a serial killer.
- 53:17Speaker 1: You could get killed by being stuck out in the
- 53:20Speaker 1: outback because 500 things are waiting to kill you. Or
- 53:23Speaker 1: you're just going to dehydrate and die out in the
- 53:25Speaker 1: middle of nowhere. Yeah.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Yeah, there's that part of it, too.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Like, there's so many of these weird little creepy moments
- 53:31Speaker 1: that I'm like, are not even part of the bigger picture,
- 53:34Speaker 1: but they work on their own.
- 53:36Speaker 2: They work as their own weird thing. And if it
- 53:38Speaker 2: happened in another movie, especially without setting up the desolate area,
- 53:43Speaker 2: if it happened in any other film, you'd be like, bitch,
- 53:45Speaker 2: get the fuck out. Or, dude, why are you staking around? Run, dude!
- 53:49Speaker 3: You know?
- 53:49Speaker 2: And it wouldn't... It just... There are character choices and
- 53:53Speaker 2: scenes in this movie... That only work because they are
- 53:56Speaker 2: stranded in the middle of fucking nowhere and you can't
- 53:59Speaker 2: blame them. What do you want them to do?
- 54:01Speaker 1: I still, like any good horror movie, I still am
- 54:05Speaker 1: yelling at them quite a bit. Of course. Because, but
- 54:07Speaker 1: this one, like, they were being so slow.
- 54:10Speaker 12: I know.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Dude, they also didn't bash his head after she, yeah, dude, totally.
- 54:15Speaker 2: They haven't addressed.
- 54:16Speaker 1: They're like normal people. That's not gonna horror movie geeks.
- 54:20Speaker 1: That's what we want to do.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 54:21Speaker 1: But like, they're like normal people. That doesn't occur to you.
- 54:24Speaker 1: They're just like run away, save yourself. But like immediately
- 54:27Speaker 1: wanting to kill a person is not in everybody.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Oh, especially two girls and a guy who's been overpowering them.
- 54:33Speaker 1: And I'm just like, I get that part of it.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I guess again, like, I'm just like, whatever.
- 54:38Speaker 2: I know, dude, I was like, use the butt of
- 54:40Speaker 2: that gun and bash his brains out. Well, that's what
- 54:44Speaker 2: I think that about so many horror movies. I'm like,
- 54:46Speaker 2: people are relatively delicate.
- 54:49Speaker 1: I mean, granted, you can withstand quite a bit, but
- 54:53Speaker 1: within specifics, if you get just the right thing and
- 54:56Speaker 1: smack somebody on the head, they're dead. Assuming it's not supernatural.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Also, just incapacitate it. It doesn't mean that they're dead.
- 55:04Speaker 2: If they find him and put him on life support
- 55:05Speaker 2: and he makes it in three months, fine. But he
- 55:08Speaker 2: ain't coming after you in two minutes.
- 55:09Speaker 1: There's 40 cars in there. Throw him in the trunk
- 55:12Speaker 1: of one and he can't come and get you.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Do it 100%. There are a lot of those things
- 55:18Speaker 2: where it's like, okay, if we're stopping and thinking with
- 55:21Speaker 2: a straight, clear head, then yay. But at the same time,
- 55:25Speaker 2: I just– yeah, I find myself not too upset at
- 55:28Speaker 2: the choices in this movie.
- 55:30Speaker 4: No.
- 55:30Speaker 2: Especially when compared to some of my favorite horror movies
- 55:33Speaker 2: when I'm, like, very lenient with some of my characters.
- 55:36Speaker 2: I'm like, well, yeah, yeah. He's– They don't have a
- 55:38Speaker 2: lot of choices here.
- 55:40Speaker 1: But I just– like, there's so many times when, like,
- 55:42Speaker 1: she goes in, like, she blows up the thing and
- 55:44Speaker 1: he goes out there and she goes to– to the
- 55:46Speaker 1: other girl hanging on a chain. And I'm just like,
- 55:50Speaker 1: she just stops and she's trying to get, and then
- 55:52Speaker 1: she waits there. I'm just like, oh my God, get
- 55:54Speaker 1: her and go. Like, I'm like, why are you taking
- 55:56Speaker 1: so long? And then what's the other, she, oh, the,
- 56:00Speaker 1: the car thing. Like when he comes back in and
- 56:02Speaker 1: she's behind the wheel and it takes so long. I'm
- 56:05Speaker 1: just like, oh my God, hit the gas, run that
- 56:07Speaker 1: bastard over. I'm like, what are you doing? Like, So,
- 56:11Speaker 1: I mean, to me, that's a good horror movie. If
- 56:13Speaker 1: it makes you be like, what the hell are you doing?
- 56:15Speaker 2: Like, you want that from a horror movie. Yeah, and
- 56:17Speaker 2: you don't immediately go, this is a fucking idiot.
- 56:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:20Speaker 2: You're just like, but why are you taking so long?
- 56:23Speaker 2: Kill them faster.
- 56:24Speaker 6: Like, yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 2: There's so many times. Well, same thing. Again, we're just
- 56:28Speaker 2: jumping around now.
- 56:29Speaker 1: But while we're on those, like. Okay, we've already established
- 56:33Speaker 1: you're miles away from anything.
- 56:36Speaker 2: You're in a vehicle.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Let's take the only vehicle we have and shove it
- 56:40Speaker 1: over the side of the split.
- 56:41Speaker 2: And I was just like, but... can't go sideways.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Or like i know he's coming but there's not a
- 56:47Speaker 1: better option now granted they just made a choice and
- 56:50Speaker 1: went with it so i'm like points to them for
- 56:52Speaker 1: coming up with something i guess and not just standing
- 56:54Speaker 1: there till he showed up but i was just like
- 56:57Speaker 1: you need a vehicle you know that they even state
- 56:59Speaker 1: that a few minutes later and i'm like how.
- 57:01Speaker 2: About the one you just shoved off a cliff see
- 57:04Speaker 2: and that was they also i feel like you know
- 57:07Speaker 2: that further introduce the fact that they have no idea
- 57:10Speaker 2: the predator that they're dealing with. Like he wants them
- 57:13Speaker 2: to be playing games like this because he's hunting them,
- 57:17Speaker 2: you know, like he, he can literally, well, I mean,
- 57:21Speaker 2: even with the, the, from a distance.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just, that's, that's the thing. Once we got
- 57:25Speaker 1: to that point, I was like, even when you think
- 57:27Speaker 1: you got him be like, he's still, because they even
- 57:30Speaker 1: set that up in the little, in the little, like
- 57:33Speaker 1: campfire scene with all of them there. It's like, His
- 57:36Speaker 1: little backstory, he's not lying about it. Everything he's done
- 57:40Speaker 1: up to this point has made him the perfect person
- 57:44Speaker 1: to kill you. Like he has no problem like taking
- 57:48Speaker 1: out these wild boars. up close and personal so he
- 57:52Speaker 1: has no problem gutting people also the other half of
- 57:55Speaker 1: his job was snipering creatures from really far away so
- 58:00Speaker 1: he's got the right gun he's got the skill to
- 58:02Speaker 1: do it so even when for a second you're like
- 58:04Speaker 1: she's laughing behind the wheel so he's like fine i
- 58:06Speaker 1: got away i got away he doesn't even sweat it
- 58:09Speaker 1: he doesn't even rush dude he wasn't he slowly gets
- 58:12Speaker 1: out gets his gun Gets up there, lines it up.
- 58:16Speaker 2: I was just like, oh, my God. This is why
- 58:18Speaker 2: you can't do that with this guy.
- 58:19Speaker 1: He's got too much expertise in this general area to
- 58:22Speaker 1: kill you no matter what happens.
- 58:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 58:25Speaker 2: This is his playground. Yeah. He knows every nook and cranny.
- 58:29Speaker 2: It's almost like Jason Voorhees, Crystal Lake. He just knows.
- 58:32Speaker 2: He has the little tunnels built. He knows every little nook.
- 58:36Speaker 2: He's going to get in and out. And it's so beautiful.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Barren and desolate that he also knows there's never gonna
- 58:43Speaker 1: be somebody there to worry about because even like the
- 58:46Speaker 1: old man comes along yeah I can kill him and
- 58:49Speaker 1: I'll take care of his body too like if there
- 58:51Speaker 1: were tons of people around you couldn't do that but
- 58:53Speaker 1: he knows it's like just a few people every once
- 58:56Speaker 1: in a while I can kill them I can take
- 58:58Speaker 1: care of that problem like everything is just desolate enough
- 59:03Speaker 1: to that you can constantly have the.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Upper hand no matter what yeah it's crazy well it
- 59:11Speaker 2: wasn't it wasn't even a gore heavy movie you know
- 59:14Speaker 2: no that's that's.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Why i think it's it's weird when they talked about
- 59:17Speaker 1: the walkouts as much as they did again i think
- 59:19Speaker 1: it's the main one was like her on the chain
- 59:21Speaker 1: screaming i'm like that's more performance like that's Her selling
- 59:25Speaker 1: that so much. I could see people being disturbed just
- 59:28Speaker 1: by because like she fooled the director. They said like
- 59:31Speaker 1: he went out to do something else and it was
- 59:33Speaker 1: just the two actors in there and he was getting
- 59:35Speaker 1: like the POV shot of the other girl from the
- 59:38Speaker 1: other side of the door. And she started, and he
- 59:41Speaker 1: thought something really went wrong. He thought she was actually
- 59:44Speaker 1: in pain and ran back in there.
- 59:47Speaker 2: And they were like, what the hell's wrong with you, dude?
- 59:48Speaker 2: We're shooting.
- 59:50Speaker 1: I was like, that's convincing. When he told you action,
- 59:54Speaker 1: and he ran back in because he thought something happened.
- 59:56Speaker 2: That's a convincing performance. Yeah.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Yeah, other than that, the hand is really like chopping
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: off those fingers is pretty gory. So that's the other
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: part that they said, people walked out on that scene.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Well, you know, I don't understand the walking out. I
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: understand the absolute jarring of a scene like that because
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: that's what it's supposed to do. I mean, you are
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: not expecting your lead heroine, the final girl in your mind,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: to have her fingers lopped off because that's like... What
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: are they– it's one of those wounds like you didn't
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: expect Michael Myers' fingers to get lopped off in that
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: newest Halloween movie. Because that's like a– where do you
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: go from there? You're not coming back from that. Yeah.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: You're missing fingers now.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: She now has four or three less digits on this hand. So,
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I mean, that is a crippling, crushing blow to hand
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: to your.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Even even the again, that's a great reveal because there's
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: so many the things I will give them points for
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: in this is the.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Misdirection along the way.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: And like the fact that one of what we can
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: get to the final girl thing, but like even just
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: that happening, like when she gets in that car and
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you're like, all right, good. She's behind the wheel. She
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: can get out of here. And within a second, like
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you see his face and she is just knife all
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: the way through. I mean, it's just like and I'm like, oh,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that's not a minor wound. I'm like, oh shit, she's
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: not the final girl. That was the moment, even before
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: the fingers, I was like, I don't think she's going
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: to come back from that wound. That was a hardcore
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: knife wound. Oh, and he sat waiting like a predator.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Again, he sat like a fucking mountain lion, just dead silent.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Knew she'd go for the vehicle that was parked right there.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: So that's another thing that I think is pretty interesting
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: about this is because it's, Again, he's kind of a
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: horror fan anyway, so you see him playing with the
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: conventions of horror, which is any good filmmaker. This far
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: in in the genre, you can't just do run-of-the-mill stuff
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: because it's a million times we've seen all that. So
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: he's kind of playing with your expectations there of like, okay,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: you want this to happen, okay, now I'm going to
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: do this.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Well, even so much so that.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: We've built her up from the second she wakes up.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: She's our final girl. Like we are in her point
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: of view. We see everything from there. And then that
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: knife goes in.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: And like, you know, she's gone. You're like, oh shit.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I guess the other girls now, like we're doing a,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: we're doing a psycho switch out here. We're like, okay,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: she's going to be dead. So this is the other
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: P you know, that we're going to switch into her
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: POV now. And she's the final girl. And then equally
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: as brutal to me, I was like, the other one
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: is way more gory, but I'm like, it's almost more
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: disturbing that rifle shot that he just walks up long shot.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: They don't cut.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: They're just long shot.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Bam.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Drops her, walks up another shot, point blank, another shot.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: It was just like, oh, we had no final girl.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, God.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: Because I don't even know. I think they cut to
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: him at one point, but I didn't even know for sure.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: The guy made it. No, I didn't know. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I was assuming he killed him because he doesn't need him.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: If he's using them for... Or whatever. He can do
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: whatever he wants. I don't know what he's into.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: But we had just kind of assumed he's going to
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: do horrible things to the girls. He probably just offed the.
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: Guy, so.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you totally don't see that move coming, because I
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: guess unless you know the story. But again, they're not
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: real accurate with anything else, but that is sort of
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: the guy did come walking out of the Outback in
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: the real world story. So that's one of the few
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: things that carries through from the actual news story. But otherwise, yeah,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: I assumed he was long gone, except we never saw him.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: So I kept, yeah, for the longest time, I'm like, well,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: he didn't see his body, so... I guess he'll come
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: popping up at some point. But again, I figured he
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: would still get killed and.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: One of the others would be the final girl. Yeah.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: They don't play those games.
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: No, man.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those movies that when I finally
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: did see it, I was like, damn it. I have
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: been sleeping on this movie. Because since then, yeah, I've
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: invested in the character. And, you know, for anyone that's
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: also listening that is thinking about getting into the film
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: or into watching it, You know, there's a part three
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: and a series three coming, or season three. They've been
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: working on both of them at the same time. So
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: it's a continuing, you know, I love the fact that
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: he's become such a, not an anti-hero, but like a...
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: A lovable villain that... I guess.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: As lovable as that guy can be.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Well, you know, Tobin Bell brought to Jigsaw. You know
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, I mean, God, you don't even
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: see him for the entire first movie. And then you
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: just lucked out and they picked a character actor that
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: could actually... A guy who really is a good actor. Right, right.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: And so with this guy, like, I didn't know him
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: from anything. Like you said, he's an awesome actor. Unless
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: you're in Australia, nobody did. And in fact, they put
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: him on the map and now, I mean... Dude, it's
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: one of my favorite horror characters. He just crept right
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: in and became like a top 10 for me. And
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: it's one of those things where I think it was
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: the same night that I finished the first one, I
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: found the second one. And it was like, it was
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: streaming on something. And I was like, holy shit. There's
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: another one.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Well, perhaps we'll come back to that one.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, for sure. For, yeah, this one, the other thing.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: This and I wanted to see this is usually a
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: very divisive even to bring up the name of this movie.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I also got a really specific vibe once we got
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: into that second half.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: And I'm like. feeling a high tension thing here. Okay. Yeah,
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: I can feel that. I mean, I can see that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: What's weird is I don't think I've seen it since
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that first time. So I haven't revisited it enough to
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: know how accurate I was, but I was just getting
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the vibe of like, that's what this is reminding me of.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: I feel, I feel like it does have that similar. Yeah.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: It's the girl being girl hiding from the killer. Uh, the,
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: the gruff old man that, that seems ultimately too comfortable
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: doing what he's doing, you know? Uh, but then at
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: the same time, You know, High Tension is one of
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: those movies that I loved. Like, I saw it in
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: a theater. I was one of, like, five people in
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: a theater. Yeah, really.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Because I don't even remember hearing about it until it
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: was already, like, out on video.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It was just one of those, like, oh, whatever,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: what is this? You know, and I think I read
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: about it on Bloody Disgusting, which is, you know. But
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: at the same time, with that movie, the ending ruins
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: it for me. I think that's why I said device it.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: Almost everybody like it's rare that i hear somebody goes
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: wow that ending was really cool everybody's just like fuck
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: this movie like everybody immediately just turned on that movie
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: i feel like the movie is so good for 98
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: of it yeah that i i am okay with watching
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: the movie again and again but now that's my take
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: on it is yeah it's like just just go with
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: it for what's good about it because everything else is
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: so well done that i'm like just enjoy what's there
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: you know see.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: I do also understand where if you watch it more
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: than one... Like, if you're a regular viewer of the movie, man,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: there are points where you are... You say yelling at
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: the TV.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Dude, there are points where my blood is boiling because
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I'm like, that would have never been possible.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: This would have... You know what I mean? And I
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: just want to flip the table sometimes because I'm like,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: did the director not watch his own movie? Yeah, and so...
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: The movie is so well done, and I like that director, too.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: So it's one of those things where I just, I'm like, okay,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: I just have to accept the fact I don't like
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: the end. Like, I love Dexter. I hate that. I
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: hate the last season. I think the last couple of
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: seasons it was already going down. The last two seasons.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: I mean, four is almost perfect. And then I enjoyed five.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I think five is weird and different than everything else
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: that was going on before it. So at least it
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: was kind of original. And from five on, they just started,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: they ran out of ideas.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Absolutely. And they kept pushing people further and further. And
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: you're like, dude, you don't need to make somebody... uh,
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: evolve three lifetimes in one season. Like it just doesn't
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: have to happen. And so, yeah, that, that's another one
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: of those where I can still like Dexter because of
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: what it was and because of how long it lasted
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: and how much it gave me, you know, how solid
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: it is through.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: And high tension gave, gave so much like the movie's
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: done so well. The directing is so good. And, and,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Like the intensity and just, man, it is a solid movie.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: That is why, that's why the ending is so frustrating.
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: Because you're like, no, you don't get to do that.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: But that was also, and that's what I ended up wanting.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Like the more I thought about it, I was like,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: it also was at the point in time where everything
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: needed a twist. Everything, it was coming right out of
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: that post Sixth Sense moment. Everything's got to have a
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: crazy twist at the end and a super like from
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: the filmmaking aspect twist. Not even just like, again, they'd
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: already done so many of the big story twists. They're like,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: what if we're messing with you from the concept? You know,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: it's like that kind of version of it. it. So
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I'm like, there was that going on at the same time.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: But then I was like looking at like, cause it's
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: kind of interesting. And that's why I like sort of
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: stepping back from the specifics of what's going on in
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: the movie and looking at what was going on at
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: the time. Cause there's also like, this was just such
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: a weird time that like, there's a lot of horror
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: movies coming out in that like early two thousands through
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: 2010 and whatever that like became sort of big and iconic.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: But at the same time, they're not necessarily even influenced
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: by each other. Some of them were shooting and being
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: written around the same time, but they're all kind of
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: pulling from a similar vibe. That was like that two
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: thousands era horror movies and like high tensions definitely mixed
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: in there. I was also thinking this totally fits in
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: with like, this is coming, I guess, right around that
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: same time as Hostile. So this is that, stupid people
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: that don't know you know again already kind of self-entitled
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: not as much in this movie but like going to
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: some place that they don't know anything about you're a
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: foreigner in this land and like hey guess what they
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: don't necessarily want you here and right guess what it's
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: not gonna go well.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: And a lot of misdirection uh like setting you up
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: with a fake with with a fake out of a
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: main character. Yeah. You know, where you're, you're like, okay,
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: I don't like these two guys, but this guy's your
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: good guy. And then he gets fucking killed. Guess what? Yeah.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: What the hell? Yeah, well, and Hostel was another one
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: that utilized CG in a way that nobody could ever tell.
- 1:10:27Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, they would throw a
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: smokestack in the background because that's where the factory should
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: have been.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: But they didn't have one. You know, or things like
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: that where you're like, oh, shit, that's genius.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: Those are, well, and just technically impressive so many times.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: I'm just like, wow. Well, also look at the director.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: The writer-director. That you can do that, yeah. Dude, he's,
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: we've talked about Eli and about how he's just a student. Like,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: that guy, you could go- He knows his horror movies.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: He knows his filmmaking. Of course, man. He's one of
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: those guys where it's almost pompous level of listening to
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: him talk. But it's because he's fucking... He's an encyclopedia.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: He will literally find a guy who's in his 80s
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: that lives in France. And he goes, hey, remember that
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: scene you composed for that Italian movie in the 1970s?
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: I want you to compose one scene for this film.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: And then the guy's like, okay.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: There's a reason he became like the kid brother to Tarantino.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: who is the ultimate version of that guy. Like he
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: is exactly that guy. And Eli was kind of like
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: the horror movie version of Tarantino. So yeah, but that
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: was the, that same, I was looking, I was thinking
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: of all the different stuff. Cause this is also like,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: people kept comparing this to like, a Texas chainsaw thing.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: This is also that reboot time too. And that first
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: one came out and like, it's more of, it's still
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: kind of playing on that same vibe of these dumb
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: kids from the city that don't know anything about it.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: So it's the same thing here. It's like, even the
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: guy from that country is from Sydney. Like, so it's
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: like you're in the, in the woods somewhere. This is
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: the Outback woods, but essentially it's like, yeah, you're in
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: the woods. So it's, it's your Texas chainsaw remake.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: It's, um, uh, uh, what the hell is the other ones? Well,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I mean, you know, house of a thousand corpse, like, like,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: like there, that's a total, yes.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: You know, they're just ripping off, but, but a really
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: well done, again, a student of that genre to the
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: point that he's just making a fan film of the
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: movie that he loves. And like, I liked that first
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: one because of that almost.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Absolutely. Well, the characters, again, it's all about the, the
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: execution of it. And, uh, I feel like, man, I
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: feel like, um, that's where Wolf Creek really, really works too,
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: is that seclusion in, in another country. Because like when you,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: when you watch Texas, Texas is already another country to me.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: I mean, like, like if you're, you know, especially it's
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: equal open spaces in the middle of nowhere. And so
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: you feel desolate when, when you're watching certain the way
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: it's filmed or where it's filmed or whatever. Uh, And
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: so with Australia, not only is it that desolate feeling,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: but it's also completely unknown because for 90% of the
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: people in the States, they don't go, oh, we haven't
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: been to Australia. And don't know anything about it. Exactly.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: You only know the horror stories or things that have
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: made it viral or things you've learned in a discovery thing.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: And it's almost like a. Like a bizarro world of, like,
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: danger and excitement and new species.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Even just going to the bar, these guys might kill
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: you in the parking lot.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: And they're regular guys.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Well, that's another thing.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Ask anybody, what do you know about Australia, just in general? Well,
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: it was a formal penal colony, you know? That's what
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I was thinking.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I was like, it also, like, it's almost like a
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: lawless land. It almost still feels like the old west.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: For us, only it's an entire country and they still
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: like there's a couple of cities and everywhere in the
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: middle is just martial law. Go do whatever you want.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Who's going to stop you? Because there are hundreds of
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: miles away. Exactly. That's just it. We don't know. And
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: so I feel like that is a huge helping hand
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: in the making you feel stranded and helpless kind of
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: a story, you know, or kind of a setting for
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: the story. It definitely, you know, whenever I see a desert,
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: I feel like desert settings make people uncomfortable, but it
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: makes me uncomfortable. Yeah. But like movies like U-Turn or like...
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: I was thinking, yeah, Wrong Turn was the one I
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: was trying to think of. Wrong Turn. Okay.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Well, U-Turn is the one with Sean... That's the... Yeah.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is also, it's like a small
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: town version, which I was thinking is that same thing.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: It's like, it's dumb city kids that are either out
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: in the woods that they don't understand... out in the
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: country that they don't understand or just a small town
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: that they don't get right what's going on and they
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: usually suffer because.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: Of it like house of wax or something yeah yeah
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: i know it definitely feels like the fish out.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Of water so much of that going on then like
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: yeah it was like a wrong turn and like even
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: like a cabin fever was that saying like all those
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: kept coming out at that time that were all very
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: different stories but they're kind of that same vibe like
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: you can definitely feel a very specific thing that was
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: going on in horror movies in that 2000s era that
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: was like a very specific thing so much so that
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: like the perfect movie came along to make fun of
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: it Tucker and Dale is like the answer to everybody
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: who watched all of those movies and was just like
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: how come all of.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: This is like, you just see all these.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Similarities and you're like, they're just playing with that so
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: well that like, yeah, that was kind of like the
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: tail end of that. And like the cap on it
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: was just like, yep, this is all you need to make.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: This makes fun of everything you need to make fun of.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: It's fine. And in the same vein, uh, behind the mask, Yeah.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: You know, that was another one that kind of turned
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: its ear or kind of said, oh, yeah, you know
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: all those things that you see in horror films? This
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: is why. And then you just kind of, oh, shit.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Wait a minute. Yeah, well, I mean, dude, Shaun of
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: the Dead, there are a lot of horror comedies that just,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: they just strike at the right moment. They just nailed it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Shaun of the Dead definitely was one of those. That's
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: one of those movies a lot of people hate because,
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: you know, it kind of popularized or repopularized zombies.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was going to say. It came
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: at that turning point like in it everything was just
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: domino at that point like i give more credit to
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: what's the freaking outbreak movie the one that everybody argues
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: because it's not a zombie movie oh wait you're talking
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: about 28 days later yeah yeah that's the one i'm
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: like that i think was the key like i think
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: that was the one that set everything off it's starting
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: with horror fans and then it started spreading out to
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: other people like like the outbreak that it is like.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: The virus spreading that it.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Is That then led to your Dawn of the Dead remake.
- 1:16:31Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: They introduced the fast-running zombies 28 days later. So then, yeah.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: But that remake was pretty well-received.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: And brought all that stuff with it, too. And then
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: you get to Shaun of the Dead. And then it's
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: a comedy and brings in all these new people.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: You see all of that stuff around that same era.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Just, like, changing the face of horror. Which, again, all
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: of these.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Movies kind of did. Mm-hmm.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: This was a good sleeper version of that. It was
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: right there in the middle of all that, still kind
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: of playing all that. Never got near as big as
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: the other ones. Yeah, I never hear people really talking
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: about this, man. That's why you threw it out. I
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: was like, yeah, I do need to watch that actually. Again,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: when you were like, man, let's think of something funny.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: I was just trying to think of a movie I
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: don't get to talk about with friends because most of
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: my friends haven't even seen it. But yeah, it's just
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: one of those I got turned on to way too
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: late and now I'm happy that I did and dude
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: you know that that Jarrett dude is he's like 70
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: years old like we don't have a lot like that's
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: why I'm like dude make part 4 make part 5
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: he better hurry up like you sons of bitches because
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: the guy isn't gonna be the most convincing killer you
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: know by the time he's 80 he's got a walker
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: wait how old is he let me check the other well.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: I ran into a story on him earlier but it's
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: again it's more disturbing what Because he's, well, the headline
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: here is Wolf Creek Star claims he was seduced and
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: had a consensual relationship, sex relationship, with a 19-year-old housemate
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: who has accused him of rape.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: I was like, oh shit. When was this?
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: I'm staying out of this 2019. July of 2019 popped
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: up as the first thing that was attached to him.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: I was like, oh shit. As of 2020, he was
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: already working on those new roles, so I'm hoping they
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: vetted that. I'm hoping this was not.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Again, any of those stories, I'm staying out of it.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: I have no opinion. I don't know what happened.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I don't want to I'm not picking sides. It all
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: sounds horrible from every end.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: I don't.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: I hate that kind of shit yeah i've already had
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: to write off maryland this fucking.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Month but 68 68 he is now yeah i just
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: brought him up today he is 68 oh as of
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: today well oh i thought you said now not 2019 okay.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I just knew that he was getting up there.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I mean, as far as killers go, I feel like
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Robert Englund is around the same age. Yeah. He hung
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: up his claws a long time ago. But would still
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: be good.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I wish they would make use of him. I don't
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: know if he just doesn't want to work, period. I
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: see him turn up and stuff, but it's usually behind
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: the scenes doing, like, you know, just interviews and stuff.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: He was on an episode of workaholics. Yeah. Like a
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: haunted guy in a painting. And I mean, he looked great. Yeah.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Like he wears full makeup in, in Freddy Krueger.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I, I, we just like, well, again, the last
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: time I was out in the world, the big event
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: I went to, I ended up, the other person I
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: was with was like, let's go to this and we'll
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: get there early. So we can, so we were like
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: five rows back from the table where he's doing like
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: the nightmare on Elm street, like anniversary, whatever it was.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: And like, I'm like, he looks good. Like he still
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: looks like, and he was up there still like hamming
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: it up and, and had his claws on and was
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: trying to kill everybody in the cast that was on stage.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: And like, it was like, he could do whatever he
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: wants now. Like, I don't know why they're not just
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: making use of him as an actor and skip.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: The Freddie thing. No, true, true.
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: Again, man, he showed up in that Jack Brooks monster slayer. He,
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: he still shows up in things, but I feel like
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: a lot of it is garbage rolls too. Like they
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: get him for one day and they have him just
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: show up as a cameo. But, man, if anyone could
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: do Freddy, or of any of the killers, you know
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: what I mean? You could have Kane Hodder play Jason
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: until he's 70. You could have Nick Castle play Michael Myers. Yeah,
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: the rest, it doesn't matter.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: They all have a mask on.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Dude, exactly. And then Freddy is literally makeup. So you
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: don't have to de-age him. put on fucking makeup and then.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: If he got burned horribly, he's still fine.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, dude. And he's in decent shape. Yeah. Like, even
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: when he said that during Freddy vs. Jason he needed
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: a stunt double for most of the action sequences, that's fine.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: That's what movies are for.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: Like, dude.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: When I hear an actor does their own stunts, I'm like,
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: are they insane? Like, are they that stupid?
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: You do know you have to continue on and do.
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: Other roles after this. That's the thing. It's like, don't
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: hurt yourself or kill yourself.
- 1:21:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: If you're the face of the product, if you are
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: the star of the product, then, again, let somebody else
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: that that's their profession.
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: They know how to do this.
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: So I feel like, man, let somebody do the stunts.
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: Get up in there and do all those close-ups, do
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: all those voiceover, do whatever you got to do. But
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: I think Robert Englund could do another Freddy. And I
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: know I'm saying that as a shitty fan. I don't
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: even need him to. Again, I'd rather see him get.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Another lead role in something else and give him a
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: chance to do something that's not behind.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: Again, I love Freddy.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: I love Freddy more than most of those other killers, but...
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: We've seen so much of that. And we saw him
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: be serious and we saw him get super hammy. We've
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: kind of run the spectrum with Freddy. So do something different.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: See, I was thinking more along the lines of the fanboy.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: If they were to give us a Freddy vs. Jason
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: 2 and throw in somebody like Ash like they did
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: in the comics. Something like that. Something fun. I feel
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: like if you got Robert Englund and if you had
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: Bruce Campbell and you had your... I feel like that
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: could be a holy shit. I can't believe they did this. That, yeah.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I mean, again, they don't normally do that much crossover stuff. But,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I mean, in a post-Marvel world, you'd think they'd do
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: the horror version of it.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: And people, I hear a lot of hate for Freddy vs. Jason.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: But that movie is a Tom and Jerry rated R
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: horror cartoon for us horror fans. Like, that is one
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: of those movies where it has terrible acting, some of
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: the worst casting as far as the kids go. But, man, oh, man,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: the body count alone is the highest of, like, any
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: of the Jason films. There's like lots of practical effects
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: out the wazoo that I don't even know how they did.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: So yeah, I could always go for another one of those.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: And they did just make a new Tom and Jerry.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: So obviously, just when you think they're done with something,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: that's one of those I saw it mentioned.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: I was like, no. And then I saw the trailer.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: I was like.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: The hell are they doing see i haven't seen the
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: trailer but i saw a a screen cap of it
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: and i thought it was kind of clever because it
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: was like inside i don't know the mouse jerry's uh yeah.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: It's like in the real world they're like roger rabbit
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: i was gonna say he had like air buds yeah
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: your ear pods like hanging up in his house's speakers
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: and i was like yeah that's kind of like i
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: can't decide even from the trailer i'm like it seems
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: like a terrible idea to at from the get go.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: But I'm like, if they got the right person, like
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: you could, I don't rule out that you can not
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: do something good with any project, but so often it's
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: done badly.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Wait, have you seen Sonic? No, dude, dude, I heard better.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Again, it got so much beforehand. I couldn't, by the
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: time it caught out, I feel like nobody saw it,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: but like I've heard decent things.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: It was for free on like stars or something. And
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: it was one of those, we got a trial and,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: I watched it, and holy shit, that movie, I watched
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: it two times in the span of a day or two, dude. Like,
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: it was fun.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: You get suckered in.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: No, it was fun. I mean, there are even parts
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: where only a diehard Sonic the Hedgehog, like a kid
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: that grew up playing Sonic the Hedgehog, would know. You
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, hey, hey.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: It only works for those geeks, but everybody else is
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: just along for the ride.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched Wolf Creek, Hostel, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: I think that says a lot about you.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. It's pretty much.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I was just trying to finalize since we threw that
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: out there. I don't want to throw horror stories out
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: and leave it hanging. The suit was settled out of
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: court on December 22nd, 2019. And the Telegraph, who posted
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: all those headlines, apologized.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: On their website. I don't know.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Still don't know what happened, but they settled the case.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. Whatever.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I'm staying out of it.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Man, I hate hearing that shit. But at the same time,
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: you also never know.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I know. That's why I don't want to, I'm like,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: I feel horrible for everyone involved. I'm like, if it's
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: not true, this is a nightmare for him. Every day
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: it's going on, it's a nightmare for all these other
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: women out there. So, like, I'm one aside with the
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: victim all the time. But then every once in a while,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: there's one of those stories that, like, The guy didn't
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: do anything. And I'm like, that's a nightmare of a
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: whole different type.
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: Then you read about Amber Heard and you're like, Jesus.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: I think she'll just beat anybody's ass. Dude, it's crazy, man.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Not that he's not asking for it. And that's another thing, dude.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: We all kind of want to punch him in the face.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I know. I'm kind of a douche. I'm guilty of
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: being a douche because when I heard the news, I
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: was like, oh, man, fuck Johnny Depp. And then I
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: started actually looking into it. I'm like, oh, man. Fuck
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Amber Heard. I mean, we all want to punch him.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, see, and then again, I don't
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: know other people's affairs.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I just.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: That's why I'm just like, I just don't like hearing
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: it in general.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: I just.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Wish people would stop being horrible to each other.
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: That's not the world we live in. Wolf Creek is
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: the world we live in.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: For real.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: That's the real world where you're trapped in the outback
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: and some crazy bastard's going to kill you. And is
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: very happy with being able to kill people.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: And from 100 and 200 yards away. Yeah.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: But even, yeah, I do like the whole little, once
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: they built up his whole little area there. Like, the
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: fact that the girl's body was still hanging there from
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: last time, like, that was the most disturbing part, really,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: is him going into the whole story of her and
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: how much time they spent and how many horrible.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Things he did to her.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: And, yeah, like, you get into, like, as happy as
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: he is to be tormenting her... And then you get
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: that story and I'm like, this bastard is like, he's
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: not just like normal. And that's why I said, I
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: was like, I don't think I got the normal creepy
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: killer vibe because it's so real world. It's so like,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: how did this guy get this messed up?
- 1:27:01Speaker 7: Mm-hmm.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I'm playing way more psychological with it.
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: And he's able to carry a conversation. He's able to
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: connect with these people. And to be able to snow people.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: That's the impressive part because some people just get so
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: even normal. Just watching people today, they're so antisocial. They're
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: so messed up that they don't even know how to
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: interact with other humans. So you get somebody who's got–
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: that are capable of doing these things but are so
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: aware of it. They also know how to put on
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: the disguise and be able to go out there and
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: be like, I'm just a good natured guy and like
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: lure people in so much. So like you get to
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: the point of seeing how much of none of this
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: was an accident. Like you watch her looking at the tape.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: he was following them already. So you see, now he's
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: following them. You get the little clip of the other family.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: You're like, okay, so the water's drugged, obviously. And then
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: so like every step of the way, he showed up,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: found their car, messed it up.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: So it wasn't going to start.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: He didn't just happen by like everything comes into play
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: that you're just like maniacally so like organized about the
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: way that he does, which they even play in on
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: like the, and that I think was the actor coming
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: up with some of this weird, he came up with
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: this huge, Backstory for his character that he then didn't
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: tell anybody so it's not like worked into the plot
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: It was his weird method of coming up with his
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: character that he came up with this massive backstory That
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: was only in his head like that He only made
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: use of in the performance and they didn't elaborate on
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: in the story Wow, but one of those yeah, it's
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: like so much so that the the whole little thing
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: of the guy showing up when they're at the back
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: of the truck and they're trying to figure out are
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: we going with them or not going with them? And
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: he's like, hey, can I help you? He's like, nah,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: I've got a special way of putting all the tools in.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: That was like a thing that he threw in there
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: of like, this guy would be that OCD about everything.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: They like to be able to pull off everything he does.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: he has a way of doing everything so much so
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: that it filters all the way down to even putting
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: the tools in the back of the truck is a
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: process for him.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: And like, that's how he juggles all.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: This stuff is he's that specific in the way he
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: addresses everything and does everything. And probably why it became
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: such a routine of like, I set this up, I
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: find the right people, I follow them around and, I
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: mess with their car. I show up to be the hero.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: I got the, Oh look, you guys are thirsty. Here's
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: all this water. Like everything is like dominoes just like
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: every time. And that's how he gets all these cars
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: and this crate full of camcorders. And like, you see
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: how many people he's been through because he's just got
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: it down.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: It's just like a process at this point. Yeah. It's
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: just what he does.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: The more disturbing thing was the other videos and the kids.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: I was like, oh, God, what happens.
- 1:29:44Speaker 7: To the kids?
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: I'm already disturbed enough by what he does to the regular,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: the women in particular, but I'm just like, oh, God, good.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: I don't want to see that story.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: Please. Well, see, that's all that they had to do
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: was just introduce the idea and you fill in the
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: blanks by knowing what this guy's capable of.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: It's even more horrifying. She's like, no, no, no, let's
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: stay on this one. Let's just watch these poor bastards.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: They're already going to die.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: Well, another little funny thing I noticed... Not that that
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: was funny.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: I'm saying.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: Disturbing. Yeah, well... A funny Australian thing I noticed was
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: referring to the girls as Sheila's. Yeah. He's like, so
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: you got a couple of Sheila's. I'm like, what?
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Well, and he's a bloke, so.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Because he's the one... A bloke and a Sheila.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: That's the other.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: I don't think... Maybe it's just dumb Americans, but it was...
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: until they said it, I was like, Oh, they're from England.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: I'm either.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Cause I'm assuming they know how to act. So I'm
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: assuming I'm just bad at deciphering accents. Cause I was
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: just like, I don't know, a bunch of crazy people
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: from Australia. Right. So yeah, only one of the three
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: was actually from Australia in the story, but that's the thing.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: All the actors are Australian.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: So like, I'm like, well, were they pulling off English?
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: I don't know. Like, I don't know, but that was
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: kind of fun too. Cause I'm like, I don't know
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: the difference.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: They got an accent.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Oh, the other main thing I think that, that I
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: wanted to mention that was so good at like tone
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: and setting the mood for all the creepy stuff going on.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: That music is so atypical. It is just not.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Horror music at all.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: And I think that's why it's, again, so unnerving.
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: Like, it's so.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Everything else is supposed to be unnatural about what's going on,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: and we get this, which is almost like out.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: Of a drama. Like, it's so.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: But it's really well done. Like, it's a full, like,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: orchestra piece, but it's done in a way that's so not, like,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: trying to rip off Bernard Herrmann. It's not trying to
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: do something that's very arch, you know, over-the-top, you know,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: horror movie soundtrack. It's trying to do its own thing...
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: And that running in the background of this somehow makes
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: it even heavier.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: I really like the score.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Like, almost so much I would hear it somewhere else
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: and not even know because it's just a really well-done score. But, yeah,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: it just makes everything on a different level watching it
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: in the middle of all this horror that's going on. Right.
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: But, yeah, I was really impressed with the music. Man, sweet.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Anything else we haven't covered on this one? oh man
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: i've hit most of my uh things i was impressed
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: by which was way more than i expected going in
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: i i assumed more of a standard again there were
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: a lot of not overly impressive things that came out
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: at that time and i that's why i hadn't even
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: gotten to this one i just sort of lumped it
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: in as another slasher out in the middle of nowhere
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: same so yeah watching and i was like there's a
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: lot of better especially to be his first feature like
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: looking at his listing there like he'd done a short
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: film and this was his first feature film okay that's
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: impressive to be able to pull off with no budget
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: you know this amount of playing with your you know
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: preconceived notions and your your genre tropes and all of
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: that like knowing that kind of stuff going in and
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: to have not even done a feature before I'm like
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: that's pretty impressive right.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: And then like you said having to work with things
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: on the fly with weather and things like that too no.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: Budget yeah yeah so yeah it's it's it's all surprisingly.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: Well done yeah yeah i i completely.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: Agree and maybe we'll come back for that second i
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: hope so if you guys are up for that sort of.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: Thing i actually started watching that again you got suckered
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: right in oh man as soon as that first one
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: ended i was like well shit.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I do want to see what's going on because it
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: is quite a jump in time there it's not like
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: the next year they followed it up it takes a
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: break he makes some other movies and then came back
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: and did that second one so i kind of want
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: to see how different it is for that reason too.
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: Well, even the show, the show's done by the same people.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: So that's another thing where you're, it kind of takes,
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: you know, the character in a crazy direction and just,
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: you know, the story's in crazy directions, but at the
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: same time, still true to everything. And I mean, it's
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: almost like, I don't know, there's a bit more absurdity,
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: you know, to the series, but at the same time,
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: I mean, I think most series, if you're trying to
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: keep it going, you know what I mean? Especially with
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: a horror story, it's kind of got to be a
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: little bit absurd. Yeah.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: Well, it seems like that would be hard to do, really,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: because horror movies work so well in their own isolated little, like,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: story arc, and that's it, and then maybe you can
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: come back for another movie later, but to do, like,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: week-to-week show with a crazy bastard like him, like, seems
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: really hard to write.
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: Oh, and when you're thinking of a movie, you know, like,
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: the director's cut, the underrated director's cut was, like, less
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: than two hours.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: I was surprised how quick it was over. Like, I
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: got to that, like... maybe before we even got to
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: the guy, but I thought like, all right, so we
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: still got like a good 25 minutes.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: And like 10 minutes later, it's like over.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, Oh, I was like, really?
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: It's like, I was kind of waiting for a whole
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: nother story arc following him around for 20 minutes, but yeah,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: it just jumps right to the end. I was like, Oh, Okay, that's, yeah, again, unexpected.
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: It's not at all what I thought they were going
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: to do. Well, and imagine having to put together eight
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: hours of television. Nine hours over a span of ten episodes.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: It's like, dude, that's like three, four movies that you're
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: having to work on. And the story's all got to
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: fit together. And so, yeah, the fact that they even
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: turned it into a series and kept it the same
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: people is like, well, shit. And that.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: far time period like it to just come out in
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: these last couple years versus 2005 like that's a huge
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: time to be like hey remember that movie from a
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: while ago that you didn't see like we're also gonna
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: make a TV series out of it exactly yeah how
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: that got greenlit like I'm glad it did but I'm
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: like I don't know how these projects come together sometimes yeah.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: I would love to know some more about that too
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: because yeah yeah it's just kind of surprising.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Definitely a lot about this movie was surprising mm-hmm Well,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: thank you for suggesting it and coming on for this
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: little Outback journey.
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we'd thrown it out there. Maybe we can do
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: some of these semi-regular. So as we go forward, yeah.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: So get on board with the old horror club so
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: you can be invested and get all your dick episodes.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Sounds worse than it is. Hey, some people are just
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: into Dick.

- 1:36:58Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff. But yeah, that's pretty much it, man.

- 1:37:07Speaker 1: So join, join the club and be part of his fun. So,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: all right, well, thank.

- 1:39:01Speaker 6: Someday we'll all be.
- 1:39:06Speaker 8: Together once more.
- 1:39:10Speaker 9: When all of the ships Come back to the shore.
- 1:39:18Speaker 9: I realize something I've always known.
- 1:39:27Speaker 8: I still call Australia home. I still call Australia. I
